My months of rest and relaxation // day 71
Today was not productive at all, but I had a random movie marathon with my dad so that's totally fine. Did not enjoy either of the It movies we watched but we had fun either way.
Productivity:
Practiced Irish on duolingo
Continued working on my crochet vest while listening to an audiobook
Self care:
Read first thing in the morning
Had a random movie marathon with my dad watching both It movies which we despised. We ended up looking like the two grumpy old men in the muppets
📖: The Tower Of Swallows by Andrzej Sapkowski
🍵: green tea

book review || We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal
Upon re-reading and looking at my old review— my feelings are the same. This was so damn good. The writing is absolutely gorgeous, so atmospheric, and envelopes you into the world. The plot is definitely slow-moving, but it really takes time to set up the players and their backgrounds, as well as the history of this world. Both Zafira and Nasir are wonderfully complex and multi-layered with the most intoxicating slow burn enemies to lovers romance. There were so many hints of future reveals that I didn’t pay attention to the first time, but showcased how Faizal planned out everything amazingly.
I also adore Altair and the enemies-to-friends arc between him and Nasir. His character is also well-created but has enough mystery that I was longing for his perspective like we receive in the second book. I do wish we could have had more time with Kifah and Benyamin, but I love the team that’s created and the dynamics between them by the end. The magic system is also pretty soft and not explained much, but that doesn’t bug me.
Off those qualms, I’d probably rate this 4.5 stars, but I just love the reading experience so much that I’m saying 5 stars.

Since it is world book day, I thought I would share once again one of my most heavily annotated, scrapbooked, lived in books- Good Omens.
I usually scrapbook inside my books, but this one is the only one that has things in almost every single page. These are just the pages with double spreads.
To the book that saved me and to Terry Pratchett and @neil-gaiman , thank you 🥂.
I did add some image descriptions. So you get some clues about all the things I put in each spread.
(Because someone asked in the tags: “how can you read it? Reread it??”
Well simple answer: this edition, like many others, happen to have black pages with just the days of the week printed on them, which I left visible, and plenty of empty spaces where I glue/draw everything else, so nothing is covered at all. Plus having so much stuff inside has actually made it easier to open. )

book review || You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle
Holy crap, I did not plan to stay up till 4am reading this book when I started it, but it’s just so hilarious that I couldn’t put it down. Every single time, Naomi and Nicholas started pulling pranks and bickering with each other, it was like watching the world’s most immature and giggle-inducing tennis match. This book takes miscommunication as far as possible, it’s so outlandish that you can’t help but laugh. I mean, could a lot of issue have been resolved by a simple, open conversation between these two? Oh yeah, but it wouldn’t have been nearly as entertaining.
Upon re-read, I fell for Nicholas a lot faster. He still messes up, but he’s not ready to give up on the relationship like Naomi thinks. His small gestures always made me aw and once Naomi becomes aware of them, her responses were just as cute. I definitely think this book highlights the importance of understanding your partner’s love language and is a great showcasing of why getting married too quickly and for the wrong reasons can lead to resentment. I was swept away by their romance as they turn from enemies to partners in crime. In the end, I adore these two together, and the perfect parallel between Nicholas’ asking Naomi out on their first date to his second proposal is so damn cute, it’s burned into my brain now.
