this new haikyuu magazine brought so much content about our lovely volleyboys 🥺 im screaming since yesterday, thinking about Hinata Natsu who is now playing abroad in Turkey, and about Hinata Shoyo who said he is the responsible big brother of his team (Asas São Paulo) and that he wants to play beach volleyball until he is 100 years old 😭😭😭 my children have come so far, they're truly, deeply, extremelyyy passionate about volleyball and they deserve the whole world!
Tumblr media
from children who played in their backyard, making friends with the ball, to incredible professional players: Shoyo in Brazil and Natsu in Turkey, even far away, they still have fun together in that same backyard, inspiring each other and staying connected through volleyball 🧡
you can read more information about the magazine on this thread on tt!

🦉👒The Influence of One Piece in The Promised Neverland (A very self-indulgent post)
Tumblr media
The straw hats worn by the girls in The Promised Neverland ch. 47 color cover were a tribute to One piece's 20th anniversary. It has always been Shirai sensei's favorite tpn illustration ever since.
An entire generation in Japan grew up following One piece. Many of the young readers from late 1900s are now the newgen mangaka currently working in Shonen jump.
Tumblr media
Kouhei Horikoshi as a high schooler (15yo) sent a one piece fanart to Oda in 2002. Twelve years later, he starts his own manga, now promoted by One piece author Eiichiro Oda himself.
One piece got Shirai into JUMP manga.
I started reading Jump Magazine for the first time when I was in Junior High. One Piece was the trigger that made me subscribe to it like a machine, and then I thought “other manga are fun too!”, and thus became addicted.
-Kaiu Shirai (2020), The Promised Neverland artbook.
Suguru Sugita, the person Shirai submitted his og manuscript to, was Toriko's editor in charge. The following year (2014), Sugita became One Piece's manga editor (later its media editor in 2017). Sugita retired from One piece altogether in 2019, while working as TPN editor from 2016 to 2020.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Promised Neverland + former One Piece editor, Suguru Sugita. On the right is a doodle drawn by Eiichiro Oda sensei introducing him.
"O-Sugi. This is the media editor, Sugita. Well natured, romanticist. Throws in random onomatopoeia. So drippy from head to toe that the girls avoid him. Compliments juniors on an annoying level. Has a strange dream -> ("I'll get myself a Kansai-ben speaking gf within this year!") Has lots of friends, but daydreams too much so he might not be able to get hitched soon."
From TPN's pre-serialization stage to its final days, Sugita was closely involved with both One piece and The Promised Neverland. Regardless of the difference in genre, One piece's influence in TPN is evident, many of which were suggested by editor Sugita.
Following are a compilation of details discussed in the The Promised Neverland fanbook where the author-editor duo noted the influence of One Piece in its creation.
🦉 The food, the biology
(The Promised Neverland Search for Minerva + final arc spoilers)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In One Piece, the characters can obtain special powers by eating cursed fruits called Devil Fruits (Luffy's elasticity, for example). This served as a basis for The Promised Neverland's demon biology. During early stages of TPN first arc, there was no specific concept involving demon's diet (thus we hear two demons casually talking about eating cats). Post escape, editor Sugita suggested to add the concept of 'becoming what you eat', stated to be directly inspired by One Piece (fanbook ch. 2). It was decided that the demons in TPN would be heavily dependant on human meat to maintain their sentience.
Tumblr media
One piece x Toriko official crossover spread, two manga in JUMP where food meant a lot more than simply filling your stomach.
"Food" both a narrative and thematic tool behind One Piece, so much so that a recently popular theory is that (avoid if you want) the protagonist's secret dream at the end of his journey is to throw a massive party that would connect different races together in a brotherly bond. Each arc ends with a scene of partying and singing, a musician was one of the first crewmate positions Luffy wanted to fill in his ship.
Tumblr media
Yugo's refusal to eat and join the table subtly hinted his refusal to partake in such bonding. It's another detail pointed out in the fanbook (ch. 3). The food scenes in One Piece had not only inspired Shirai but also Haikyuu author, Furudate Haruichi (stated in Haikyuu databook).
🦉 Characters as Inspirations
Tumblr media
[Romance Dawn + Goldy Pond spoiler] One piece character Helmeppo was the inspiration behind Goldy Pond demon, Luce. Helmeppo was one of the earliest characters introduced in One Piece (ch.3), a weak but spoiled child of a marine officer who'd exploit his father's influence to get about anything. Luce, the youngest hunter in Goldy Pond, was the son of Dozza. Helmeppo was redeemed eventually, unlike Luce.
[Shabondy Archipelago + TPN final arc spoiler] The World Nobles in One Piece are arrogant slave-owners hailed as gods on earth for their ancestry. Lord Pupo's flashy appearance and simple-mindedness were inspired by them.
[Dressrosa + TPN final arc spoiler] Bartolomeo, an in-series fan of the protagonists, was introduced in One Piece manga at the time of Sugita's debut as One piece editor in 2014 and instantly became popular. In The Promised Neverland, Lambda kids were supposed to obey Norman in a normal manner. But editor Sugita wanted to lighten up the mood and make them goofy fanboys, inspired by Bartolomeo's success.
[Arabasta spoiler] One piece's first major antagonist Crocodile served as a base for TPN characters, mainly antagonists:
When I was drawing dignified characters for TPN, Sugita-san gave me a piece of advice called the "Crocodile Line". Whether or not Crocodile from One Piece would say such a line would determine whether or not the character (I made) was dignified enough. It was a good method. I love Crocodile so there's that too.
-Shirai in The Promised Neverland fanbook (pg. 196)

Kageyama & Oikawa reacting to their long distance s/o surprising them after a match
requested: Oh my GOOOOD your request are open!!! 👀❤️ I thought about a reaction with the Haikyuu boys (you can choose the characters). Their long distance s/o surprises them after a match!!! A cute reunion!!!
A/N: I honestly didn't know who I should pick so I just went with the first two whom I had ideas for haha hope u don't mind. While writing I realized how much I was writing for every character individually but I definitely still have ideas so maybe tell me if I should make this a series? which characters would you like to see?
Also this takes place after the timeskip since I don't feel comfortable writing during their High School years anymore so SPOILER WARNING for the manga.
pairings: Kageyama Tobio x gn!reader, Oikawa Tooru x gn!reader
warnings: not proof read
word count: 1k
Reminder that my requests are open :]
Kageyama Tobio:
Tumblr media
The MSBY vs. Adlers match was all people talked about in magazines, the TV, the radio, social medias... at least in Japan, that was. Since u were studying abroad you probably wouldn't have caught wind of it if your boyfriend wasn't the star setter of one of the participating teams. It was all he talked about. Or wanted to talk about, you noticed. He seemed to not mention it as often in front of you as he may have wanted to. The reason for it was simple: You couldn't be there for one of the most important matches of his volleyball career. Or so he thought. You had an important exam that day and couldn't push it, given that it was one of your last motnhs before graduation. It almost killed you to not mention even a tiny word about how the exam was actually a week earlier so you could be there. It was supposed to be a surprise, after all. You tried to act nonchalant yet sympathetic when you talked on the phone and he was talking about practice, mentioning Ushijima and Hoshiumi. Occasionally the latter would just snatch the phone and chatter to you about Tobio's antics. "Y/N you realla gotta come to the match, or else Kageyama-kun might explode because he keeps all his feelings to himself!" or "Sometimes he caresses the ball all weirdly as ifimagining it's y-". You really had to laugh then, not a single one of them had a clue of your plan, only Hirugami did because you had to plan the organisational matters of your trip with him.
On the day of the match you were basically dizzy, you were nervous for Tobio but excited to see him again and the general buzzing of the crowd didn't do any good at helping to calm your nerves. There was a discussion you had with Hirugami about wether or not it was better to have the reunion before or after the match and you came to the conclusion it was better to do it aftrer in order to not "ruin Tobio's mental state" (his words, not yours, yet you still had to grin). So you let the crowd carry you, got some snacks, met some of your old friends but had to tell them to be quiet about your plan and then quietly sat down on your special place that Hirugami secured your ticket for: A perfect view of the court, yet hidden from sight of the players. The snacks you got were unnecessary, given that the match was so intense that your stomach did flips. Before the match even completely ended you got up and got ready to be one of the first people to greet your boyfriend. You braced yourself for his mood, since it seemed the Adlers were about to lose this match. Yet Tobio didn't seem to be in the worst of moods - He got to play against Hinata, after all. You couldn't surpress the smile on your face any longer when you heard the final whistle that signaled the end of the match. Yes, the Adlers had lost, but the most exciting part of the day was yet to come for you. And for Tobio, you hoped. Journalists, interviewers and other fans immediately gathered around you and pushed towards the field, where the players were talking to each other after the match, but it was just seconds until they would leave the field to make interviews. When it was finally time the crowd immediately formed a tunnel for the players to get through. Hirugami was first, leading the team, spotting you and winking at you. When Tobio brushed past you as last one in the row, you couldn't help pressing out a "Hello there, stranger."
It took him a few seconds of realisation. First he kept on walking two more steps, before he recognized your voice. His face scrunched up in question, before he stopped abruptly and turned his head to the side you were standing on. You couldn't stop grinning now, tears of joy threatening to form in your eyes and a lump forming in your throat when he completely turned around and his eyes immediately landed on you as if he just knew. You didn't move, or maybe you couldn't, but neither did he. People around you just kept looking between you and slowly realized themselves what happened. You giggled while tears were now slowly streaming down your cheeks. Tobio was always so awkward, it got better over the years but now, in public, after an emotionally wrecking game he just seemed overwhelmed, but so were you. "You dumbass Kageyama! Move!" That was Hinata's voice coming from somewhere behind you. He had grown a lot, yet now he still jumped up and down rapidly to see you. And Kageyama took the hint, didn't even care he took an order from his friend and just charged right at you, embracing you in his arms and pressing you so closely to him that it knocked the wind out of your lungs. You inhaled all the sweat he had built up from the game but honestly didn't care, there was a slight scent of his shower gel somewhere too. The best sensation were those strong arms over your back and around your waist, his heartbeat beating against yours, heading for a world record with that speed. The first cameras were going off around you and you knew that Tobio usually didn't like you or your relationship in the public, but this didn't matter to him right now. You felt his throat move against your head and it hit you that he was probably holding back tears right now, trying to understand what was happening. "Did you like the surprise?", you whispered with a shaking voice, still pressed against his chest, so your voice only came out muffled. But that didn't matter, it was only for him to hear. "You're such an idiot for this.", he whispered back, but you knew he meant well so you just laughed and pressed even closer to him, if that was even possible. "I'm your idiot though, so that makes it bearable." "Wouldn't have it any other way either."
Oikawa Tooru
Tumblr media
It's been three months now, since Tooru left the country to play volleyball in Argentina. You hadn't visited him yet, your semester has started and you were busy with accustoming to your new living situation, and so was he. But you missed each other dearly, now that the big excitement was over and you could only rely on facecalls in different timezones. That made it even harder to stay in contact, you were often awake during completely different times, not seldom did one of you fall asleep during your calls. It was such a harsh contrast to High School, where you saw each other everyday, that one evening after a call you spent the rest of your night crying and planning your first trip to him. The smile on his face was genuine to only a certain extend when he had told you about his first game with his new team Atletico San Juan. Deep down he was sad you couldn't be there to watch him, as you were there for all his games in school, even if it was just a practice match. And this time you would also be there, you decided.
The theory behind this trip was easy enough, imagining yourself back in his arms. The actual thing however? You've never been to Argentina and your lovesickness had made you stupid enough to not plan everything thoroughly. You got a hotel room, good enough. Only until the day of the match though, hoping that Tooru would shelter you afterwards. You also got your ticket for the game, obviously. Everything else was left unplanned. You couldn't speak a word of Spanish, so the journey to your hotel was already adventurous enough. Luckily the staff at the hotel could converse with you, and that's where you planned to stay until the big day, anyway. As soon as you fell on the bed your heart began to pound. You were under the same nightsky as him again, and it would only be a few more hours until you actually got to see him again. It was so real now that your found yourself breathless for a moment. Did you even still know how to act in front of him anymore? Nonsense, you just had to be yourself. Yet, surely both of you had changed. Talking to someone through a phone was one thing, but seeing them in person again after months?
The only person you had told about your trip was Iwaizumi who you'd suggested should join you, only for him to decline being the third-wheel. You were so lost in your thoughts before sleeping that you completely missed Tooru's daily call. You had 7 missed calls and even more texts from him and gulped looking at them the next morning. The last thing you wanted was for him to worry about you on the day of his big game, so you quickly went to call him. Of course he picked up right away. "Babe! I was worried you didn't pick up!" You made up a stammering excuse about leaving on a trip with a friend for the day and only now returning, given that it was supposed to be night time for you now, or so he should think. "Well, I hope you dream about my success in the game." You grinned then, suddenly all excited and giddy. During the call you were already getting ready as you listened to him rant about his sleep and morning warm-up. "I'll be cheering you on even in my sleep, Tooru. Promise." That seemed to have satisfied him. He kept on talking though and you had a hard time guiding through this foreign city. You had to make up the excuse of having the TV on in the background. When he finally hung up you almost arrived in front of the arena and felt your heart almost beating out of your chest.
The moment the teams got on the field and you actually saw him live and in person and not through a screen your knees would have given in if you wouldn't have been seated. You couldn't even care for how the game went, really. You had missed him so dearly, his movements on the field, his mannerisms, his face, his smile and eyes. His hair had gotten a bit longer, you noticed, but it suited him in his new uniform. After the game was over (ofc they won), you were unsure of what to do. There were already interviewers bundling up around the field and fans were ready to get signatures on merch. You found it best to wait outside of the arena, hoping that at one point your boyfriend would come outside. You watched as groups of fans came streaming out one after another, until it got less and your hands started to fidget with the railing in front of you. As you watched the last line of fans come out of the big doors you noticed the team bus of the opposing team coming out of a side entrance, so you figured that team conferences were over now, as well. You gulped. Only a matter of time now. For a bit of distraction you looked down on your phone, only to find another text from Tooru saying "We won!" and you smiled as you typed an answer. Until you almost dropped your phone when two familiar arms - have they gotten a bit bigger? - found their way over your body from behind you, pulling you to a hard but warm surface. "What a naughty girl you are for lying to me about your whereabouts. Thought I wouldn't have noticed my beloved s/o in even a sea full of people?"
Tears formed in your eyes immediatley when you felt his heartbeat against your back and his warm breath brushing your hair next to your ear, sending a shiver down your spine you haven't felt in way too long. A quiet sob is all taht came out of your mouth before you turned around to face him and pulled his head down maybe a bit too rashly to press your lips against him. "I missed you, I missed you, I missed you." was all that you could mutter in between kisses and he just hummed in agreement as he chased your lips everytime you leaned back.

Social Media AU’s:
Distance | Akaashi Keiji x Reader x Atsumu Miya (smau)
✧ Summary: Childhood friends with Atsumu Miya, you followed your crazy friend’s antics from high school to pro-league, taking up the job as manager for the Division 1 Black Jackals. The team welcomed you in immediately, but you were slowly developing eyes for a distant friend. ➳  genre: smau, lots of humor, even more angst, fluff ➳  status: ongoing
Long-Fic’s
Karasuno
Fate | Kageyama Tobio x Reader (One-shot)
✧ Summary: For years you watched Kageyama grow - from his time as king of Kitagawa Daiichi to the seemingly aloof setter on Karasuno. Your lives were a set of near misses; distant friends, but never getting any closer. You figured that once you entered Shiratorizawa High that it would be the end of your friendship. Thankfully, it was only the beginning.  ➳ Tags: Slight Oikawa x Reader; Fluff with very minimal angst; Reader transfers from Seijoh to Shiratoriazawa so there’s drama; I love Oikawa but oooF this is not a good fic of him; Iwaizumi and Semi are great friends
Itachiyama:
Quiet Sort of Love | Sakusa Kiyoomi x Reader (one-shot)
✧ Summary: Manager to the Fukurōdani volleyball club, there was no doubt that Itachiyama’s Sakusa Kiyoomi was a strong ace. He brought your team to their knees on multiple occasions, but what you were not expecting was getting to know the nationally acclaimed spiker beyond just the titles and labels. ➳   Warnings: Implicating language and slight spoilers toward the end (you will be warned beforehand :)) ➳   Tags: Buckle up boys cause this is a LONG one LMAO -> lots of fluff, angst, slight BokuAka, character development, and mutual pining at one point,
Envy | Sakusa Kiyoomi x Reader (one-shot)

Inarizaki
Patience is a Virtue | Shinsuke Kita x Reader (one-shot)
✧ Summary: You lost track of the days that you were in love with Kita. He was so much more than just the team mom that many outsiders dubbed him as. He was the wielder of cold-logic and held the bluntest of words at times, but he showed his own special brand of care for each member of the team. What you hadn’t expected was for him to especially care about you. ✧ Warnings: Language because twins lmao ➳ Tags: Childhood friends to lovers; mostly fluff; Atsumu being a little shit; mild jealousy on Kita’s part; introspection and some character development
MSBY Black Jackals (Time-skip Dynamic)

This was nothing new, but even you were surprised at how much those boys cared about you. ➳ Warning: Language and Attack on Titan Canon Violence ➳ Tags: Reader x MSBY Black Jackals; Slight Reader x Schwdien Adlers; Takes place before the Fall of Trost
Nekoma
Unrequited | Kuroo Tetsurō x Reader (one-shot)

Seijoh:
Distant | Oikawa Tooru x Reader (one-shot)
✧ Summary: Girlfriend to Oikawa Tooru, you were proud of what he was doing to chase his dream. The fruits of his success seemed evident to all - from various newsletters, covers on volleyball magazines - every day his fame was going. And yet every day... you were growing apart. ➳ Warnings: K+ :) [one of the first few things I wrote so a little rough] ➳  Notes:  Angst, Happy Ending, Cast from Free! make an appearance!!
Shiratorizawa
Possessive | College!Ushijima Wakatoshi x Reader (one-shot)
✧ Summary: Libero to the women’s Fukurōdani volleyball club, you moved away from Miyagi and to Tokyo during your first-year. And while you cherished your high school years, you wondered how different it might have been if you stayed with your childhood friends at Shiratorizawa. After a failed confession, you were more than surprised to re-connect with the strong ace in college. ✧ Warnings: Implicating language and some outdated head-cannons ✧ Notes: Fukurodani crew! Akaashi being an instigator from Kuroo’s influence probably, subtle jealous moments, cleared-up misunderstandings, angst, and mutual pining at one point

Video Games ✰ Tendou Satori
Tumblr media
Video Games covered by The Young Professionals
tendou satori x gn reader
Through the Summer and the Fall // Haikyuu!! Songfic Series
a/n: hi everyone, I'm sorry for a posting a week late! I’ve been really unmotivated as of late for personal stuff but also because I'm lowkey still a little bummed that my Bokuto fic (definitely totally am not plugging it rn - totally do not click the link, ahaha 🥺) didn’t do as well as I hoped it would. But no matter! Here is the Tendou insert, as promised! It’s not the best, and I definitely have a bit of writers block and am behind schedule. I wish I could write his character and for him better considering how much I love him. Next will up be flattykawa 😌 and I will be posting it hopefully soon to help make up for last week’s missed post. I've also changed up this blog and have given it hopefully a better look - there is a new theme on desktop!
Warnings: part 3 spoilers for jojo’s bizarre adventure that include character death, my bb tori being insecure about him and his body but I love him and his flat a$$ so much, and as always, we clown on flattykawa in this household but all in good favor
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was a rainy day, and Tendou was quiet and content as he sat on your bed, reading the new Weekly Shonen Jump magazine that he had just been mailed. He had let Ushijima read it earlier - but as always, he only read the advertisements. You sat beside him on the floor, his long legs dangled off the edge of your bed, his foot brushing your arm every now and then. You were playing the new otome game you had bought a week ago on your console. On days like this, the two of you often fell into comfortable silences when hanging out with each other - and today was no different. There was nothing to do other than school work and go to practice - but even then, it wasn’t necessary for the third years to attend anymore. Not since they lost in the finals against Karasuno.
He was pulled away from the panel he was reading when he heard you gasp - his crimson eyes flitting to your monitor to see what had happened.
“What happened?” You turned around to look up at him, an excited look on your face.
“Murasame Jinnosuke confessed his love for me! I didn’t expect it to happen so fast into the game.” He looked back at the screen to see a handsome samurai on your screen. Snickering, Tendou ruffled your hair.
“Good job, now just see if you can get a real guy to confess his undying love for you.” Squinting at him, you slapped his leg playfully.
“You’re supposed to be nice to me, Tori-kun.”
“When am I not?”
Ever since you had taken the place of Shiratorizawa’s volleyball club manager two years ago as a first year, you quickly bonded with the strange amalgamation of players. It had been a running gag between the third year players to find out what type of guys you liked. You could always be found on your phone during breaks playing otome games - and that was the beginning of the years of playful torment from your fellow classmates.
It wasn’t that you weren’t attractive or that you didn’t gain attention - every Valentines Day you always received several confessions and chocolates, but you always rejected them as kindly as possible. For someone who played as many otome games as you did, they were surprised to say the least when you had always declined the advances of many classmates, saying that they just weren’t your type with a kind smile on your face.
It was Tendou’s turn to squint as he turned his attention back to your screen as you continued to play through the game. He scoffed at some of the things the fictional samurai said to you - what was so special about him anyways?
This is my idea of fun
Playing video games
Tendou shut his manga volume, and he noticed your curious eyes looking at the cover. Smirking playfully at you, he poked your forehead.
“Suddenly interested in pirates?” You sat back, rolling your eyes.
“Maybe. Who’s the character on the front?” He stared down at the covered, humming.
“Shanks. Say, I never thought you were one to go for a tough-looking guy.” He held a mischievous grin on his lips.
“Ha! Sure. Keep thinking that, Tendou.” He feigned a gasp.
“You used my last name too? With no honorific? No nickname? The rudeness! I’m so hurt!” You couldn’t help but egg your friend along.
“Hmm, maybe I should start watching One Piece if he’s in it…” But before Tendou could clap back, Yamagata slid into the seat next to you, a teasing smile on his lips.
“Ah, so that’s your type, huh? Tough-looking guys with scars?” You rolled your eyes at the libero. “I’m pretty tough too, aren’t I?”
“As if.” But it didn’t stop them from the teasing.
So what if you maybe did prefer more muscular guys? Tendou didn’t understand why the thought hurt his feelings so much. He may not have the bulging muscles, but he was just as strong. He sighed to himself, watching you from across the table as you shoved Yamagata playfully. Why would you want to like someone like himself anyways?
It's you, it's you, it's all for you
Everything I do
Tendou entered your dorm room unannounced as he always did - but this time he was surprised to see you in tears as you huddled in your blanket, staring at the tv. The first thing you usually did was banter with him about his bad habit of not knocking, but all he could do is stand shocked in your doorway.
Instantly, his gleeful eyes turned blood red. Shutting your door behind him, he quickly made his way over to you, his eyebrows furrowed, a scowl on his lips.
“Who do I have to beat up?” A million thoughts were running through his head - were you made fun of? Did someone reject you? Did you receive a bad score on an exam? He wrapped his arms around you the second your tear-filled eyes looked up at him.
“Who did it? Who hurt your feelings?” His genuine care and questions only made you cry harder into his chest.
“Dio.” You said, but it was too muffled for him to hear. Pulling back, he gave you a quizzical look. You pointed at the scene that was unfolding on your tv.
“Dio killed Kakyoin.” Tendou immediately smacked a hand to his face. His eyes flickered to the screen to see a tall, muscular character slumped against a water tower, a hole in his torso with text on the screen saying “Kakyoin Noriaki has died.” He couldn't help but laugh.
“You want me to beat up the mighty and powerful vampire lord and stand user, Dio Brando? For killing the guy who licks cherries weird?”
Slapping his arm, you pouted at him through your ugly tears. “Don’t make fun of me! I really liked him.” Tendou kept on snickering as he rubbed your back.
“I know, I’m sorry. But it’s just too funny to just not tease you.”
As ridiculous as it sounded, Tendou wondered if you would ever cry for him the way you cried for Kakyoin. He smiled to himself as he stared down at your face that was still buried in his chest - he hoped you wouldn’t notice how fast his heart was beating at the notion of you coming to him for comfort.
Maybe your type was animated men.
I tell you all the time
Heaven is a place on earth with you
Tendou put his jump comic down and just watched your gameplay - he was too distracted by his thoughts of you to focus on the new chapter of My Hero Academia.
He couldn’t help but pine over you. You had been so open and kind to him from the first time you met him - he remembered that day with ease. You had looked so confident walking into the volleyball gym, introducing yourself to the players as their new manager.
He was genuinely surprised that you weren’t turned away by his quirks - and he was thankful that above all, you treated him just like you treated everyone else.
It seemed so easy for you to become friends with the other first years at the time. You found commonalities with each of them, and you even managed to break Ushijima out of his shell by the time you all first went to nationals. Tendou remembered the hours upon hours that the two of you spent together - whether it was hanging out in the dorm watching animes, giving him tips and encouragement on the court during timeouts, or quality conversations on long bus rides to and from games. If you had never joined as manager, Tendou would’ve never guessed that the two of you would become as close friends as you were now. And he had always been a good guesser.
As he stared at you, controller in your hand, he remembered why he realized he liked you so much - it wasn’t because you shared a strong love for manga and anime. Okay, well, maybe it was, but it wasn’t the commonality. It was because you understood and even empathized with escaping through these fictional stories.
He knew what it was like to want to escape - to want to find paradise away from everyday life. On the court, Tendou could sneak into the small slice of heaven that he visited when he played volleyball. Off the court, he wanted nothing more than to have you safe in his arms as the two of you escaped into the world of whatever show you had chosen to binge that day.
To him, you were just as heavenly as the defeated looks on his opponents’ faces that he craved to see - maybe even more.
Tell me all the things you want to do
I heard that you like the bad girls, honey, is that true?
You squealed excitedly as you waved the game in front of Semi’s face after practice had ended.
“Semi-semi! Look what just came in the mail!” He pushed your hand out of his face, scoffing.
“I can’t see it if you’re rubbing in my face like that, idiot.” The setter had a smile on his face nonetheless, making you laugh as he took a look at the game. His eyes widened.
“No way, Castlevania Judgement?!?!” You nodded proudly, smiling at Tendou and Ushijima as they walked over to see what the commotion was about. The middle blocker gawked at the game you held in your hands - the third years had been talking about the release of it for at least a few months now.
“You jealous? If you want, we can play after dinner.” Semi quickly nodded, and you looked at Tendou and Ushijima for their answers.
“What, when have I ever said no to wanting to play video games with you?” To his reply, the captain simply nodded.
“Thank you for your invite. I am happy to attend as well.”
Tendou and Ushijima sat on the edge of your bed as you and Semi sat in front of your tv, switching the controller after every chapter of the game. Ushijima had no interest in actually playing the game - and Tendou knew he would get a chance to play with you later. Semi was more excited for the game than he was anyways.
You couldn’t contain your excitement as you gushed over one of the main characters, Simon Belmont. From the looks of it, he was a powerful fighter - and Tendou sighed once again - he was super muscular and tough-looking too. You were too invested in the gameplay with Semi, that you weren’t paying attention to the conversation Tendou sparked with Ushijima.
“I don’t get what’s so special about him anyways.” The redhead had a pout on his face, his arms crossed. Ushijima was very aware of the middle blocker’s crush on you - his friend often coming to the captain for his advice. While Ushijima had almost no experience and knowledge at all in terms of dating, he was always observant of the people around him, and was very blunt.
“Tendou-kun, if you like them so much, it would just be better to ask. It is pointless to be jealous over every fictional character they like.” He couldn’t help but gawk at the monotonous tone and the serious look on his captain’s face.
“I’ll raise you a better one. It’s pointless to ask because their standards seem to be so high anyways.” Ushijima couldn’t help but stare at his friend.
“And why should that stop you? They’re not real.” Tendou sighed, exacerbated.
“I get it, I get it! I know they’re not just going to pop out from the screen or anything.”
“But?”
“But that doesn’t mean those aren’t their same standards to people they prefer in real life,” Tendou admitted, and Ushijima knew he hit the reason why. Tendou may be tall, but he was lean and lanky. The muscle he had was nowhere near that of any of the fictional guys you crushed on. What could you possibly want from someone way weaker - someone like him?
“They are not the type of person to go completely for the way someone’s body appears. If that were the case, they should’ve confessed their attraction to either myself or Yamagata by now, based on your logic. Besides, they told me they liked you.” Tendou couldn't help but roll his eyes, placing a hand over his heart.
“Wakatoshi-kun, you wound me. Of course they like me - they wouldn’t be my friend if they didn’t. Couldn't you at least sugar coat your advice sometimes?”
It's better than I ever even knew
They say that the world was built for two
Before the prefectural qualifiers in the fall, Shiratorizawa managed to snag a practice match with none other than Aoba Johsai. While there was clear tension throughout the entire time, the teams kept interactions outside the court lines as light-hearted as possible. Seijoh managed to snag victory during the first match, but Shiratorizawa hit back just as hard, winning the second match.
The boys were currently loading their bags into the bus as you supervised them, reminding them to triple check that they had everything. You were almost caught by surprise when a volleyball rolled towards you, hitting the back of your foot gently.
“Sumimasen.” You heard from several meters behind you, making you turn around. It was the Great King himself, Oikawa Tooru, that was slowly jogging towards you - it almost seemed like he was doing it in slow motion. Your fellow teammates heard the setter, their eyes sneakily following him as he got closer to you. They couldn't help but snicker at their so-called sworn enemy - it was obvious by the way that his aura sparkled around him and the smoulder on his face that he had rolled the ball your way to get your attention.
“I’m so sorry, could you get that for me?” You nodded, a polite smile on your face. The great Oikawa was definitely handsome, to say the least - and Tendou couldn't help the childish frown that filled his features. As you picked up the ball and handed it back to the setter, he flashed you a heart-stopping, pearly white smile.
“Thank you,” he said, taking the ball from you, brushing your fingers in the process. “You are the manager for Shiratorizawa, right? I didn’t catch your name earlier.” Oikawa ran a hand through his silky hair as you gave him your name.
“Wow,” he flashed you another smile, “such a beautiful name for someone just as gorgeous.” Semi couldn’t help but let a snort out at Oikawa’s compliment.
“Thank you.” You took the complement in stride, deciding it would be nice to say something back. “You played great today, Oikawa-san.” He laughed jovially.
“Thank you, you’re very kind. And cute. Would you be interested in catching boba with me sometime? I know a cute place that has good milk tea and milk bread.” Tendou rolled his eyes at Oikawa’s words. It probably was his plan all along - to try to bewitch the manager of Shiratorizawa. When Tendou saw a smile grow on your face, he couldn’t help but feel defeated. Were you actually going to say yes to him?
“I’m very flattered Oikawa-san. But I’m sorry, I must decline your offer.” Oikawa’s eyes widened in surprise. The Great King? Being rejected? “You’re not really my type.” You turned around, making your way onto the bus, leaving Oikawa with his jaw on the ground, the ace on Seijoh’s team as well as your teammates laughing their asses off at the scene that had just unfolded in front of their very eyes.
“That’s what you get, Crappykawa! You should’ve gone to Shiratorizawa!”
“Iwa-chan, that's not funny! I feel like my heart has been broken into thousands of pieces!”
“Well, if they’re gonna hit it, they better hit it til it breaks!”
“Pfft, I’m actually not surprised they didn’t say yes to him.” Semi commented, placing his duffle bag into the storage compartment. Tendou’s head quirked at the statement.
“Why’s that?” Reon asked, storing his things as well, making Semi and Yamagata snicker.
“Did you see how flat his ass was? I’m 100% sure their type is thicker guys. Like their ace, or something.” The three of them burst into laughter, Tendou only slightly laughing along as well. Ushijima only grunted in disagreement as he shut the compartment’s door.
“I believe their type is actually redheads.” All of the third years looked at their captain with wide eyes and dead silence - before laughing even harder. Semi slapped Ushijima’s bicep lightly, bending over. Tendou’s eyes widened - Ushijima was not the type to joke around, right?
“I didn’t think you actually knew how to crack jokes, Ushijima-kun!” The olive-haired man only looked down at his fellow third years in confusion.
“I am not joking. I simply just decided to ask them earlier, and I am only relaying the answer they gave me.” They couldn’t help but bend over, Yamagata even wiping tears from all the laughing.
“Stop! Your bluntness is only making it worse!” By the way the rest of his teammates reacted, Tendou believed Ushijima really must have been joking - in his own way. He had just picked a hair color different from Oikawa’s, right?
“Good one, Wakatoshi-kun.” Tendou let out a chuckle, giving his friend a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes.
Only worth living if somebody is loving you
And baby, now you do
Tendou’s eyes widened as he relieved all the memories. Was Ushijima actually serious? He had never asked his friend about it - but perhaps it was because he was too scared to actually know the truth. Quickly, Tendou pulled out his phone and googled each of the characters - Shanks, Kakyoin, and Simon. The samurai was still on your screen, and he flipped through the tabs on his internet browser, trying to find the similarities.
Obviously, they were all built rather strong - but Tendou couldn’t get what Ushijima said out of his head. They were all redheads, after all. Why hadn’t he noticed this before? He looked back at you, your attention still on the otome game. Should he ask you? Would it be weird? Tendou thought about texting Ushijima, but he quickly decided not to. He already knew what his friend would say. Right after he called your name gently, you set down the controller and turned to look up at him.
“What’s up, Tori-kun?” He had never felt this nervous before - it wasn’t even like he was going to confess to you or anything either.
“Uh - what’s your type? Like, in guys? I promise I won’t tease you this time, I just want to know.” Surprisingly, you smirked at him. What were you thinking?
“You gonna brag to Eita and Yato that you finally found out after all these years?” The apparent blush on Tendou’s cheeks only spread further.
“What? No, I wouldn’t do that… Unless I had to,” he said, trying his best to come off as his usual teasing self. This only made you snicker at him.
“I’m surprised you guys haven’t beat it out of Toshi-kun yet. I already told him a few months ago.” Tendou’s eyes widened at what you said.
“Huh?” You rolled your eyes at him.
“Yeah.” He couldn’t believe how casual you were about it. You were always so hellbent on keeping it from them - but perhaps it was because they made such a big deal out of it in the first place. Tendou didn’t exactly know how to respond to you - he was still trying to process the realization. So he had guessed wrong this whole time?
After sitting in silence for a couple of seconds, you gave him a playful smile. “Redheads,” you said, turning around and picking up your controller. Ushijima’s words echoed with yours in his brain.
Besides, they told me they liked you. Tendou let out a choked noise.
“I’ve made a mistake!”
You burst out laughing at Tendou’s exclamation. Setting your controller down once more, you stood up and turned, leaning your elbows against your bed. “You guys really are that oblivious, huh? Even Toshi-kun saw that I liked you. He went so far as to ask me about it too.” You propped up your head with your hand, staring at him. Getting past his initial shock, Tendou settled back down.
“How shallow of you,” he teased, leaning his head closer to yours. “I can’t believe the only reason why you like me is because my hair is red, yanno?” In return, you inched your face up closer to his as if you were challenging him.
“I know,” you said smugly, your eyes flickering down to his lips, “I’m such an awful friend. I’ll only break your heart once I replace you with another redhead.” He smirked as he noticed where your eyes had glanced. Tendou may have been oblivious, but he wasn’t called the Guess Monster for nothing.
“I’m guessing that you want to kiss me right now, hmm?” He asked quietly, dangerously moving closer to you - your faces now only mere inches apart. A blush crept onto both of your cheeks. You answered back, your voice nearly a whisper.
“Why don’t you find out for yourself, Guess Monster?”
Immediately, Tendou closed the distance between the two of you. Your lips were warm and soft, making him wish he had at least put on chapstick earlier. His heart was beating so hard inside of his chest that he was afraid you’d hear it, but you said nothing as the two of you pulled away. Saying nothing, he only smiled as he traced his fingers up your neck, cupping your jaw. Pulling you into a deeper kiss, he sighed contentedly as he felt your hands trail up his torso.
Kissing you felt like paradise.

BONUS
The following day, Tendou met you at your door to walk with you to lunch. With your hand in his, the two of you took your sweet time making your way to the cafeteria to meet up with the other third years. Today, Coach Washijo had asked for them to play a practice match against the Miyagi first years he was holding a training camp for. You decided to tag along since you had nothing planned to do for the weekend.
As you talked about a weird dream you had, Tendou couldn’t help but gaze adoringly at you - he couldn’t believe that you liked him, or that you were actually dating him now even if it had only been about twelve hours. The two of you waited in the lunch line, his chin resting on top of your head as he held both of your hands from behind you - it felt so natural to touch you. He could tell that people were staring - but none of it mattered when all he needed was the sound of your excited voice and the blatant look of love in your eyes.
Stepping away from your back slightly, he moved forward to gently place a kiss on your cheek - and that's when he heard the yells. The both of you turned to find your fellow third and second years staring at the two of you with wide eyes and mouths catching flies. Goshiki accompanied the team as well, his face beat red. Ushijima was behind the flustered first year, a rare half-smile on his face.
“Afternoon guys!” You had said it so casually as you leaned back into Tendou’s arms, allowing him to place a cheeky kiss on your temple - making Semi gag and Yamagata nearly tear up.
“I did tell you all that they preferred redheads.”

Hello! Unsure if this is where you receive prompts as I read through the prompt policy but it didn't show where? Anyway, I wanted to prompt a Haikyuu Kageyama introspection fic while Hinata is in Brazil! What were his thoughts as his other half left him, and came back stronger for it? How did he grow into himself while he was away from the sun? (Thanks in advance if this is something you'll write about! <3)
Shortly after graduating high school, Kageyama was interviewed for a magazine. The interviewer said, "Kageyama-kun, you played so many excellent volleyball players while you were in high school. Who would you say was your biggest rival?"
Without hesitating, Kageyama said, "Hinata Shouyou."
The interview looked confused, and then she laughed nervously. "No, I mean, not one of your teammates. People you played against. Who did you most hate to lose to?"
"Hinata," Kageyama said again, confused by her confusion. She just laughed again and moved on to the next question.
He still wasn't sure what was so confusing about his answer. He thought he'd been very clear.
*
Even when he was playing against other people, he was really playing against Hinata. It didn't matter who was across the net from him at high school, Kageyama's goal for each game was to beat Hinata. He didn't realize how much he'd counted on that, until Hinata was a world away.
If Hinata kept improving, then Kageyama kept improving. And Hinata was always improving.
*
In Hinata's absence, he spent too much time thinking about Hinata.
Like when they met. That first match that Hinata had assumed he'd forgotten about, little knowing how many hours Kageyama had spent thinking about that match. Hinata's team was laughable (only later, Kageyama learned Hinata basically recruited his friends who knew nothing about volleyball) and Hinata wasn't great either.
Kageyama's team had asked why he was taking such a bad team seriously, and the answer was simple: because Hinata was taking it seriously. And even afterwards, all Kageyama could think about the sheer natural athleticism that kid had, and how if he'd even half of Kageyama's training, he'd be a serious threat.
And as he kept thinking about that game, he couldn't help but come to the inevitable conclusion: that guy was going to get better.
And he was going to be terrifying.
*
In high school, their opponents kept underestimating Hinata. Kageyama never did. He was proud of that. Never once did he think Hinata wasn't going to be an absolute monster some day.
It was something Kageyama brought to his games now. Hinata might be in Brazil, but he was never far from Kageyama's mind. Somewhere, Hinata is training and getting even stronger. Someday, they're going to face each other across the net again. Kageyama can't relax for a second. There's an oncoming storm, and he has to be ready.
*
And sometimes, only sometimes, he thought about how it was nice to be on the same side as Hinata. Because Hinata was the one person where it was always easy. Kageyama alienated Kitagawa Daiichi by being an angry, demanding, King of the Court. In high school, he overcorrected, trying to be really accommodating, to the point where Miya Atsumu accused him of being a goody two shoes. Even on his team now, he still had to be very careful with how he interacted with others.
But with Hinata, he didn't have to be polite. He could shout, and make demands, and he certainly didn't have to be nice, and Hinata was never scared away. Hinata was always just there, at his side, doing incredible things with volleyball.
Sometimes, Kageyama thought about how glad he was when Hinata was on his side during those years.
But mostly, he was really excited for the years to come, when he can battle someone truly impressive in the game they both love.
A/N: This is how you submit prompts, friend! Sorry that was unclear! Full disclosure, I have not actually finished reading the manga, although I have seen all the spoilers. So I’m not sure if this works with canon, but, this ask was really well timed because I've been wanting to write more Haikyuu fic and I just finished watching To The Top and I had ALL KINDS of Kageyama introspective thoughts. So, thanks for giving me the chance to explore that! Hope you enjoy!

haikyuu flower shop oneshots ~ kenma (unexpected guest)
Tumblr media
description: a kenma x fem!reader oneshot where someone you least expected walks into the flower shop. (part of the haikyuu x reader flower shop oneshots series)
warnings: slight manga spoilers (kenma’s future occupation)
genre: fluff
word count: 978
a/n: i don’t know how, but somehow this ended up becoming a full blown smau and there’s a very good chance that I’m going to make it. also, note that when I mention a price, it’s in the japanese currency system. $1USD is about JP¥100 in Japan.
edit: I did make it lol it’s here
Tumblr media
You squint your eyes as you position the camera over the singular pink rose, your tongue sneaking out of your mouth in concentration. You needed to catch the right angle, the angle that the light would fall on the best. The angle that would be the most aesthetically pleasing while also being easy to paint.
You were just about to press down on the button to take the picture when you hear the bells on the front door jingle. “Hey Y/N!”
You look up, placing down the camera. Kuroo smirked at you, striding through the door with a shorter boy with a hood covering his face walking next to him. Kuroo and the boy walk up to the counter, the boy standing a little ways off.
And then he takes off his hoodie.
And your heart stops.
Standing in the flower shop you were working at was Kozume Kenma, the Youtuber you’d been admiring for the past year.
You choke on your words, unable to take your eyes off of him. This is him. In the flesh. Living and breathing and standing a few feet away from you.
“Oi, are you ignoring me?” Kuroo said, standing in your view of Kenma.
You drag your attention away from Kenma and focus on Kuroo. “No. What do you need?”
“I don’t need anything. It’s my friend Kenma over here who needs it.” Kuroo smirks. “Have I told you about him?”
“Not when all you do is talk about yourself,” you mumble. You met Kuroo at the start of the semester, which was pretty recent. You would walk to your lectures together, but only when you were going to the same building. Meaning you two never really got to talk.
But shouldn’t he at least mentioned he was friends with Kenma? He’s been on the cover of magazines, in news articles, splattered all over the internet—and he never said anything about being friends with him?
You glance over in Kenma’s direction. He had his phone in his hands, but he would occasionally look up to glance at you. Both of you looked away when you made eye contact.
You swallow slowly and try to focus on the words coming out of Kuroo’s mouth. “...yeah, Kenma and I have been friends for almost our entire lives. You’ve heard of him, right?” Kuroo asks.
You blush slightly and stare at your hands. “I’ve watched a couple videos of his.” You could see Kenma glancing in your direction out of the corner of your eye.
Kuroo smirks. “Well, he doesn’t like going out. Unfortunately for him, his cranky aunt’s birthday is coming up and the only way he won’t be forced to go see her is to bring her some flowers.” He smiles. “That’s where you come in.”
You manage a nod. “I can arrange some flowers for him.” You look back in Kenma’s direction “Um, Kenma? Does your aunt have a favorite color or color preference?”
Kenma shrugs. “She likes blue, I think.”
A thrill rushes through your body. You were used to his soft, warm voice, having listened to his streams as background noise while you studied or painted.
But in person, it was even better.
You got to work, flitting around the room and plucking flowers. You finished the bouquet rather quickly. You wrap it in plastic and then hand it to him. “I hope this is good enough,” you say.
“It’s really pretty,” Kenma compliments. Your fingers brush when he takes the flowers from you. You swallow thickly at the contact, feeling your heart race in your chest. “Th-Thank you.”
“Um, how much is it?”
“Oh.. it’s ¥1614.90.*”
He pulls out his wallet and turns around slightly. You see him take out a pen and scribble a bit, but then he turns back around and hands you the yen.
At that second you realized how rich Kenma was. He was making so much money and he was in college. Meanwhile there's you, working at a flower shop. You’d never have a chance with him.
He hands you the bills. There’s a split second where you two hold eye contact, until Kenma hurriedly looks away and walks toward the door.
You stare at the money in your hand, flipping through each of the bills. A slight frown appears on your face. “You gave me extra.”
Kenma stops. He turns around slightly. “I know. You can keep it.”
You stare at the extra ¥1000 he gave you.
Why?
Was it a thank you for the bouquet? No, he already paid, that’s enough. Was it a thank you for not freaking out when you saw him? No, then he would’ve said so, right?
Kuroo looks over the exchange with a raised eyebrow. He snorts and slides his hands in his pockets. “I hope this wasn’t too much a surprise for you, Y/N.”
Kuroo’s voice drags you back into the present, and you muster enough wits to respond. “It’s okay. I know how much you like making others uncomfortable, anyway.”
You expect Kuroo to respond, but he just smirks a bit. “Talk to you later, Y/N.”
You nod as Kuroo and Kenma walk out the door, your eyes glued on Kenma’s back.
And just like that, the door shuts, and he’s gone.
You sigh and slump down, dropping the yen in your hand onto the table.
You spoke to him. You touched him. You made eye contact with him. You saw him in person.
You recite these little victories to yourself as you slowly put the money in the register. But then something catches your eye.
A slip of paper. No—a business card. For Kenma’s company, Bouncing Ball Corp. The information was crossed out, replaced by a series of numbers.
A phone number.
Kenma’s phone number.
Kenma, the Youtuber who you’ve been crushing on for the past year, just gave you his phone number.

Haikyuu!! Observations: Ushijima x Sakusa, Ft. Komori and Tendo
Tumblr media
**SPOILERS FOR ANIME ONLY’S BELOW**
Okay, am I about to dive into a lengthy post about why UshiSaku may be endgame in Haikyuu!! and how Tendo may be the best wing man for it all?
Uhm, yes. Yes, I am, so bear with me.
I’ve been stewing on this for a while now, so there’s a lot to cover in this post.  Let’s dive in!
Ushijima and Sakusa’s Parallels
Okay, first things’s first -- let’s talk about Ushijima, Sakusa, and the parallels the Manga has made with them. Starting with their views of Shoyo Hinata.  Let’s begin with Ushijima. While the stereotypical characterization of Ushijima is to make him completely stoic and unfeeling, Ushijima DOES have emotional responses, especially in the manga -- for example, his reaction on the court to Hinata is MUCH stronger than I believe the anime shows:
Tumblr media
This is developed further in the Shiratorizawa vs. Karasuno match -- as Ushijima struggles with the fact that Hinata is not a skilled player -- he just has natural athleticism and his actions are half “luck” and half the gutsy collaboration of his actions alongside the “reckless” and “wild” other players of Karasuno.
This idea of “luck,” interestingly enough, will come back with Ushijima nearly 200 chapters later...but we do establish here, that Ushijima is the type of person that admires and respects strength, and efforts that are backed by natural talent and disciplined training. It’s only natural that Hinata frustrates him, because at this point in the manga, Hinata and “disciplined training” aren’t exactly words that go together (more on that below).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Verrry similarly, Sakusa has no room for people who lack discipline, though his “discipline” relates more to personal health than just physical preparation for a game. This comes in direct focus in a flashback during the Black Jackal vs Adlers game, when it shows Sakusa first meeting Hinata. Unlike Ushijima, it doesn’t seem like he “hates” Hinata, just has absolutely no desire to be around someone that lets themselves get sick...and he only allows himself to be open to Hinata as a teammate after Hinata expresses that he has indeed grown up since High School.
Tumblr media
The manga also points to parallels of how they handle defeat, showing both Ushijima remaining proud and quiet after their loss to Karasuno, only quietly declaring to Hinata and Kageyama that he would “beat” them again --
Tumblr media
While with Sakusa, he’s more vocal in his musings about losing, in Chapter 368 stating that it would hurt more to be pitied, especially when you did all you could do, and still suffered a defeat. Itachiyama losing their setter could be viewed as “bad luck” in the final set, but Sakusa points to luck not having so much bearing as just it being the result of fate and unstoppable forces in the moment. Ever the realist, Sakusa...(again, more on “luck” below).
Tumblr media
Sakusa objectively presents the fact that they lost in very simplistic, albeit nihilistic terms, and similarly, Ushijima doesn’t shy away from using objective information and putting things in simplistic terms without hyperbole. This can be seen through his conversation with Goshiki below.
Tumblr media
Ushijima and Sakusa’s “Type”
So, if we’re going to even possibly ship these characters together...does it work? It becomes clear, through the manga and anime, though that both Ushijima and Sakusa admire players who are powerful, can present a legitimate challenge to them, and therefore spurn them to become stronger players, too.
Tumblr media
Both Ushijima and Sakusa are portrayed as incredibly strong right out the gate in the manga, which makes sense as both are in the Top Three Aces for high school volleyball. However, unlike Kiryu (the #2 Ace that is depicted as more down-to-earth, friendly, compassionate, and relatable to our other protagonists), both Sakusa and Ushijima have “colossal protagonist” vibes -- seeming larger than life, incredibly stoic, and emotionally distant to others on their team, even if they are around them constantly.
Tumblr media
And then, concerning Sakusa...there’s the infamous Chapter 394.
If anything has established what Sakusa’s “Type” would be, it would be these two panels. Ushijima is checking off all of the boxes for Sakusa: Understands personal hygiene? Check. Someone offering Sakusa a challenge as a competitor, and motivating him to keep moving forward and practicing? Check!
Tumblr media
Chapter 394 answers many questions, and points us to the observation of:
Sakusa’s “Pining”
Furudate, we see Sakusa lazer-focused on Ushijima from the other side of the court...you’re not fooling us:
Tumblr media
Hey, remember where the mystery of Sakusa and Ushijima’s relationship began? Waaaaay back, after the Shiratorizawa match, after the Fukurodani/Nekoma matches; at the start of the National Japan training camp that Kageyama attended in Chapter 209.
A camp, where it was noted by Karasuno, that Ushijima had been the chosen representative of their prefecture for at least the last year.
And who is the first person Kageyama runs into at this camp?
Tumblr media
And the first thing Sakusa states isn’t a proper greeting, it’s not about how they beat Shiratorizawa...it’s how the team “somehow” beat WAKATOSHI-KUN.
The next time we get interactions from Sakusa, he immediately jumps on the offensive, DEMANDING to know who the player was that led to Shiratorizawa’s downfall:
Tumblr media
It’s interesting that Kageyama implies the “entire” team was responsible for Ushijima’s defeat on the page before this one below, but of course, Kiyoomi does not pick up on this. Then, leave it to Komori to come in with the save. Again, tying Kiyoomi to being a “realist,” which will come into play below.
Tumblr media
So, it isn’t until Chapter 394 that we learn about Sakusa’s long-standing history of playing Ushijima in various matches, developing this competitive rivalry with him that has been going on since middle school. Ushijima is literally the one obstacle that he finds himself unable to surpass; the one piece of the puzzle he can’t put into place yet.
It’s no wonder the fact that someone defeated him irked him so much.
We get a little more context from Komori on Sakusa and Ushijima’s rivalry, and more on the flashback on their Nationals loss which will tie into my last point.
Tumblr media
Motoya Komori
I would be remiss not to bring up Motoya Kamori’s role in all this.
I think it’s verrrrrry interesting the route Furudate chose with Komori, specifically in revealing that he’s Kiyoomi’s cousin.
This makes a LOT of sense, considering how closed off and antisocial Sakusa is. It justifies not only why Komori is so keen to stick by Sakusa’s side, despite his seeming apathy towards his presence, but it also justifies why Kiyoomi even sticks with Komori: he really doesn’t have a choice. Komori’s family.
Tumblr media
Side Note: Ever get the impression that Komori and Kageyama could be a fun friendship/pairing? I mean, the top setter and top libero? Komori seems genuinely friendly with Kageyama, both at the training camp and when they see each other at Nationals, commenting on Sakusa being out of his element...
Tumblr media
...Juuuuust a crack pairing side note! Spread the word! Now, back to the post!
Tumblr media
Komori becomes our main expositor about Sakusa in Chapter 394, noting how osbsessive compulsive he is, especially in finishing anything he starts. It’s just an odd choice for me, to make Komori his cousin. True, it goes against the stereotype that all family HAS to look or act like each other, and it does make sense to why their friendship is so strong.
It’s just a move that Furudate hasn’t pulled the entire manga, and it comes right at the end of the series...and it disrupts Furudate’s tactic of giving us characters in “pairs” that, as some reactors have noted, are ripe for instant shipping.
Coincidentally, right as we start to make connections between Sakusa and Ushijima. It’s almost as if Furudate sank the Komori x Sakusa ship with revealing their relationship, just in time to reveal the answer to our mystery of why Sakusa refers to Ushijima in such a familiar way...and let that ship sail. How poetic.
Tumblr media
Also, if you wanted to know WHY Komori is so good at being a libero, look at this page below. I mean, if YOU had to practice non-stop with the Top Ace in the nation, receiving his spikes, you can only imagine that you’d be amazing at the sport.
I also like how this page points out how, despite Sakusa also having a physical trait that makes him stand out -- like Ushijima -- in contrast, it seems Sakusa’s “oddity” was instantly accepted among his peers and he didn’t face much resistance to it. Of course, this also could be because Komori notes Sakusa wasn’t close with his “much older” and “much busier” family.
Tumblr media
Tendo’s Friendship
And, tying this all together, of course, is Tendo’s involvement.
I love chapter 176 and this part of the anime, where we actually get backstory on Ushijima. I love that Tendo is pretty much his “true” friend in this series, as he actually is one of the few at Shiratorizawa to take the time to ask questions and get to know Ushijima.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chapter 176 is a big source of material for people shipping Tendo and Ushijima together, and I’ll be honest -- until Sakusa came into the picture, I was right there with you all. Tendo shows genuine concern and sincerity in his conversations with Ushijima off the court, and on the court, he’s practically the ONLY character on Shiratorizawa’s team, and in the whole manga (other than Oikawa) that calls Ushijima out and isn’t afraid to tease him.
Tumblr media
Of course, in the end, Tendo is just as impressed and in awe of Ushijima’s raw athletic talent. It’s likely this page that fuels a lot of the ship:
Tumblr media
And, even later on, Ushijima borrows Tendo’s words to reveal to the team how much he’s enjoying the match, much to their surprise and Tendo’s delight.
Tumblr media
So yes, Chapter 176 I believe started the UshiTen ship, and it does become more compounded in the infamous “Boy Ball Arc” before Spring Nationals, as we learn in Chapter 210 about Tendo and Ushijima’s friendship off the court in more detail; one example being them sharing Shonen Jump magazines...
Tumblr media
...and another being that they hang out during the practice matches, with Tendo being pretty much the only one talking to Ushijima in a casual setting.
I’d like to point out that while some see this in Chapter 214 below as a “ship” moment, I did start to question if the two were just friends when Tendo likens Ushijima to a “monster” like Hinata and Kageyama. To me, this banter reveals that Tendo, ironically referred to as a monster himself, doesn’t put himself in the same league or category as Ushijima. This is also reflected in how Tendo notes he’s not pursuing volleyball after high school, but hopes that Ushijima ends up becoming famous and interviews him as his best friend.
Tumblr media
And this leads to the final point, which I think cements Tendo’s status as Ushijima’s best friend...but nothing more. Maybe. Perhaps. We’ll see.
We get the reveal in Chapter 395 that during Ushijima’s first few years post-high school, he didn’t constantly keep in contact with Tendo. We know this because Ushijima hasn’t mentioned his trip to the United States to Tendo, which had happened three months prior. So some time has passed there.
Of course, that doesn’t mean Tendo hasn’t kept caught up on Ushijima’s Pro Volleyball career, as that’s his reason for calling Ushijima in the first place.
Tumblr media
I like that Tendo offers Ushijima advice and genuinely asks how his family is doing, specifically his father, whom Ushijima went overseas to visit with his father. Even if it has been a while since they’ve talked, you can tell that they are close enough friends that everything seems to pick right back up where it left off for them, which is true for many real-life friendships, and I appreciate Furudate giving us that here, and expanded on more years later, below.
Tumblr media
I love this page of Chapter 402. Especially Shiribu’s little crush of Ushijima, as he “shhh”’s Semi.
Not only because it reverses Tendo’s original prophecy that it would be himself interviewed as the famous Ushijima’s friend, but also that it cements their friendship. I mean, Ushijima flew to PARIS for the interview. I know that in itself could be considered shipper fodder, but the fact that they identify as best friends...it just fits them so well. And I could see Tendo talking with Ushijima on late night phone calls to talk him through his dating, or lack thereof, woes.
Also, let it be known these men are the most stylish in Haikyuu!! They should work with Asahi.
Tumblr media
Also, also, Tendo’s favorite food is chocolate ice cream. That should have been all the foreshadowing we needed for his future career, right? ^^
Black Jackals vs Adlers
So, that leaves us with the meat of the UshiSaku ship: the Adlers vs Black Jackals match, and the final chapter 402. In Chapter 394, we establish Sakusa’s backstory and the potential pining he’s done for Ushijima the last ten years of his life, starting with this page:
Tumblr media
Again, tying back to being “lucky.” I like that despite how Ushijima couldn’t comprehend where Hinata attained all of his athleticism and lamented how half of his plays were just “lucky” and a combined effort of him and his teammates, in the end, Ushijima admits here that he himself is rather “lucky” he won the luck of the draw athletically and was born with a particular trait that made him excel in the game (that being lefthanded). Sakusa, incidentally, falls into the same category, though he doesn’t quite admit it as such.
I like that we see these two actually interacting side-by-side, as equals, a visual I think Furudate designs intentionally. Unlike Tendo, who doesn’t situation himself in the same realm as Ushijima, Sakusa positions himself right in the same sphere, of the “Monster Generation.”
Tumblr media
By the end of Chapter 394, Sakusa reflects on his own “luck.” In how he is lucky to have been given life -- reflected with a picture of Komori, his family -- to have met people -- reflected by Ushijima specifically -- and to still be playing volleyball -- reflected by his old high school setter, whom went on to play in the Division 1 league after his own injury. His views of “luck” are all represented in ideally, the people that mean most to him...and Ushijima is one of them.
Sakusa also describes his “Ideal Last Game,” which could be represented by the game being played in that moment. It’s beautiful that someone who is so germaphobic and hyper-obsessive with controlling the atmosphere around him (who he comes in contact with, how he finishes everything he starts), is also so content and at ease on a volleyball court, where nothing is in his control but his own body and the contact he makes with the ball. And it also helps that he’s surrounded by amazing players, like Ushijima, here, to keep him rising to the next challenge --
Tumblr media
-- which ends up coming his way in the very next Chapter, as Ushijima (coincidentally right after Sakusa) has his “moment” of reflection and growth put on display. Of course, Sakusa isn’t “finished” with catching up to Ushijima yet, as his cousin snidely reminds him with a laugh, here. I love that we see Ushijima smile, though, at Sakusa’s effort.
Tumblr media
Speaking of “Effort,” that ties into later in Chapter 400, when we have Sakusa’s own high school banner for Itachiyama put on display. It’s a simple motto, that goes alongside Shiratorizawa’s in “Be Strong.” I also like here, that in contrast to Chapter 395, when Ushijima was smiling at Sakusa, who couldn’t bump his spike, in Chapter 400, we have Sakusa getting the spin off of Ushijima’s hand, and as he lands, he gives a little smirk to a disgruntled Ushijima.
LITERALLY, these two have only truly smiled during a game at each other. Sure, each have scowled and showed irritation and drive towards facing opponents, but have we seen them “smile” at another in the midst of a game? Not really, unless you count Sakusa getting that service ace before Atsumu Miya in this same game...
Tumblr media
Speaking of Atsumu Miya, we’ll talk about him a little bit below. But for now, I like that Sakusa describes that there’s no “room for anything that disgusts me” on the court in a pro volleyball game. Everyone is at their fullest potential and peak physical condition, just like Sakusa, and they all have worked diligently to get to that position.
We don’t get much other UshiSaku crumbs post Chapter 400, although, I would like to point out that Furudate, when drawing the National Japan Olympic Team, placed these two right next to each other. You know...for no reason, I’m sure.
Tumblr media
And yes, I would be remiss not to mention this tiny panel -- the last we see of Sakusa or Ushijima or Atsumu Miya, I believe -- as it’s Sakusa that digs up Oikawa’s insane serve. I just LOVE the smile that Ushijima has here as Sakusa digs it. Because unlike Sakusa and Atsumu Miya, Ushijima knows exactly what kind of player Oikawa was in the past, and no doubt knows the kind of plays he could pull off...so I’d imagine he’s proud that his teammate dug up this serve right off the bat.
I know there are a lot of people that ship AtsuSaku, and I won’t deny you that Furudate has laid out crumbs for them as well...but I sort of view Miya with Sakusa the same way I view Tendo with Ushijima at the end of the day: as best friends. I definitely think that there is a hilarious friendship angle with Sakusa and Atsumu Miya -- but I think it’s Ushijima that is the player Sakusa is always going to try and beat and surpass...you could argue, very similar to the dynamic between Hinata and Kageyama in their rivalry...albeit, I think Sakusa’s hints more deliberately at something more...but that’s just my opinion.
Tumblr media
In the end, I find it interesting the decisions Furudate makes to show us these characters and specific interactions at the end of the series; specifically, showing Ushijima and Sakusa’s backstories back-to-back, and with all the little glances and panels of them near or looking towards one another. But hey, shippers will see what shippers want to see, right?
I do think that Komori’s panel here in Chapter 394 is pretty telling, though:
Tumblr media
Sakusa has identified Ushijima as someone he wants to beat and surpass, and he’s not going to stop until he does. And if there are feelings beyond that...well...he’s not going to stop until “he’s satisfied” with that, either.
At least, according to Chapter 378, Ushijima’s already got his flu shot.
I hope you all enjoyed this little dive into this bizarre pairing in Haikyuu!! I’ve wanted to break this apart for a while, and now that the manga is over, I hope to do more of these types of posts with other pairings. Until next time, we can celebrate the ship that is UshiSaku (and KomoYama/KageMori -- pass it on!) with fan fiction and fan art to our heart’s content! ^^

haikyuu!! third gym squad taking the ib diploma programme
Tumblr media
ok... my friend and i got rlly stressed the other day and made headcanons for these guys if they were to take classes in the ib... it’s like a levels but like... a bit more death!
for my ib diploma folks you can just hop on over and read what i’ve hc’d but for my non-ib folks, lemme give you a bit of an introduction to the ib diploma programme.
characters included: bokuto koutarou, kuroo tetsurou, akaashi keiji, tsukishima kei, haiba lev, hinata shouyou
Tumblr media
THE IB DIPLOMA PROGRAMME is a rigorous two-year pre-college program in your last two years of high school. a full programme consists of one class from each of the six required groups (totalling to 6 classes), which are G1 - first language; G2 - second language; G3 - social sciences; G4 - natural sciences; G5 - mathematics; and G6 - arts (though, arts is optional, and can be switched out with another subject from G3 or G4).
within these six courses, students are required to take at least three high-level (HL) courses and three standard level courses (SL), but some students may take four HL courses and have two SL courses (kind of a rough one tho).
just to note: there’s two types of math courses - applications and interpretations (Math AI) and analysis and approaches (Math AA). MAA courses are known to be harder than MAI courses because students do more theory work and have non-calculator sections in exams, unlike MAI courses where calculators are required for every exam. also, it is possible for a person to take IB courses instead of the full diploma programme, but i’m not very well acquainted with that variation of the IB programme so we’re just going to assume all the boys got 6 courses.
okay. i am so sorry i just lectured you on a whole school curriculum. anyways. back to haikyuu!!
Tumblr media
BOKUTO KOUTAROU : Japanese Language and Literature HL, Mandarin Ab Initio SL, Geography HL, SEHS (Sports, Exercise, and Health Science) HL, Math AI SL, Economics SL
ok so it’s canon that this dude is not doing very well in math but his parents made him do higher level math at first poor boy >:(
he started the year off in higher level and thought he was gonna be fine
no. he was not fine.
so he ended up switching his math hl to sl and his japanese sl to hl
IT IS CANON (special chapter in volume 19 titled “i just forgot” where bokuto has a wholeass crisis about words) that bokuto’s really one to actually really like to think about how words work and function as systems in the same way ib language courses do!!
actually having him do japanese ll hl is just an excuse for me to keep him in math sl sorry
i mean koutarou may be my fav tax evader but he really did sit through two years worth of econ classes... smh
mans is Not listening and has to rely on yukie for notes but he just memorises case studies for exams and does not do anything else
i feel like he just takes mandarin because he thought it was the easiest one... he also thinks the words sound similar so it’s easy to memorise
he’s a pretty good communicator so he practices his mandarin quite a lot. as in, he’s made friends to talk to in mandarin. we love to see it!!!
also. um. i hc that he’s pretty decent at memorisation so geography!! this goes for memorising all the kanji and mandarin characters too
i think SEHS is pretty self-explanatory. mans already known he wanna be a pro athlete might as learn about being healthy as an athlete
Tumblr media
KUROO TESTUROU : Japanese Language and Literature SL, English B SL, Business Management HL, Chemistry HL, Math AI HL, Biology HL
now... we all know this mf been taking chemistry hl. it is CANON
and as per his career path... DEFINITELY business management hl
i feel like he’s so analytical in the way he sees things that he likes to explore many areas of knowledge where there are different ways of thinking
takes english as a second language because... whew.. aint it sexy when mans wanna be multifaceted in business
also takes higher level biology because he’d rather not with the languages... but later on i believe he ends up in a higher level language class because he might as well
i feel like kuroo’s classes just give me a vibe i know too too well...
mans takes math ai. he does not wanna fuck around with a pencil proving a theorem he just wants the answer bro
like in volleyball, he’s a quick thinker. so he’s pretty g with math and business stuff
i literally know someone with this class combo ... it’s not very chill but it screams “you never see me do any course work but i always get at least a B+ in every subject”
Tumblr media
AKAASHI KEIJI :  Japanese Language and Literature HL, French Ab Initio SL, Psychology HL, Chemistry SL, Math AA SL, Visual Arts HL
now... this subject combo radiates such pretty energy
pretty subjects for a pretty boy
he was originally going to do biology sl but then found out there is chemistry in biology so he just decided with chemistry. plain and simple.
we all know akaashi is both emotionally and academically intelligent
he’s logical and analytical, and when faced with a tough time he works through it well albeit going through a little bit of struggle
this automatically puts him in math aa... i just see him actually liking proving theorems???
but maybe he just thinks his calculator is a nuisance sometimes and would rather solve everything by hand
also art boy! this dude likes graphic design more but when it comes to traditional art he does Not Hold Back
i like to think that he’s into painting backgrounds and mixed media
if he didn’t take VA, i’m pretty sure he would take economics. because. it’s quite systematic and i think akaashi would take a liking to it
as for japanese ll hl... we all know this dude was supposed to be a part of the literary section in a magazine/manga company but was moved to editor
goes hand-in-hand with psychology, likes to know how words convey meaning and how they affect people
he also thinks french is kind of a cool language. i feel like this guy just wants to do it because it sounds cool and novel for him
all in all, pretty solid subject combo!
Tumblr media
TSUKISHIMA KEI : Japanese Language and Literature HL, French Ab Initio SL, History HL, Biology SL, Math AA HL, Instrumental Music HL
4 hl’s... here we are folks
honestly does it for colleges to go like “holy shit this dude is kinda crazy”
but does suffer... coursework tings :)
first of all this dude takes french (even though it’s a beginner’s class) because he just loves to sound cool huh
the summer before his courses started he would have had the basics down after looking through free ib textbooks
plus, being the guy that’s super good at a new language in the class is a huge ass flex and a big ass ego boost. and anyways, with language, he thinks it’s just a lot of simple patterns working together.
this also applies to japanese ll hl... finds writing essays and making arguments ez (at least that’s what he tells himself - he’s kinda nervous when it comes to japanese but he holds on anyway)
practices extra hard on pronunciation. sounds hot tho
math aa hl??? there we go. another crazy one. thought he could ace the class at first.... no. no he couldn’t
thinks about moving down to sl. probably does. (at least it’s not math ai)
history and biology go hand in hand for him. he has significant interests in prehistoric times, and likes to learn about the origins of life - that’s a given
but he does get tired of the politics talk in history like... goddamn all these people making so many mistakes? just stop making them smh
and instrumental music was just something he got onto because he really would like to just have a course where he could enjoy himself while also learning about the stuff he likes
nobody knows what music he listens to... but i think he’s willing to listen to anything as long as it’s music and it has the kinds of vibes he digs
Tumblr media
HAIBA LEV: Japanese Language and Literature SL, Mandarin Ab Initio SL, Psychology HL, Chemistry SL, Math AI HL, Theatre HL
i don’t know how to explain it but lev has such strong psych and chem energy
yes haiba lev’s classes are the ones i picked via roulette wheel
jk not really
here’s the thing though, lev takes psychology because he thinks econ, business management, history, ess, all that jazz is just... absolutely boring. like. super. mf-ing. boring.
so he’s like ooh cognitive processes!
kinda hates that he has to study research methods and research methods ONLY at first but when he gets the hang of it he really finds it one of his fav subs
i actually have no explanation for mandarin ab initio sl... he just seemed like the kind of guy who would wanna do the class solely because he thinks mandarin sounds cool with their intonations and everything
plus he heard that the teacher gives mooncakes every lunar new year ad he. loves. them.
okay now hear me out.
lev is good at math.
maybe not lightning speed analysis or calculations like akaashi, but he finds solving problems fun! except for when they’re without a calculator bc he HATES doing calculations by hand
he can get a bit clumsy with his hand calculations too so it’s nice to just have a calculator on hand
literally only does math ai for the sake of using a calculator at all times (a/n: i take this class, and this was the reason i took it too. COMPLETELY VALID)
and then does theatre for the fun of it!!! confidence levels high for presentations and performances... good fit
kinda thought that ib theatre would be his easy A but oh how he was wrong... hates the research tasks at first but he gets used to it
Tumblr media
HINATA SHOUYOU: Japanese Language and Literature SL, Portuguese Ab Initio SL, SEHS HL, Geography HL, Math AI SL, Theatre HL
his classes are bokuto energy but with theatre and portuguese
MANGA SPOILERS! we all know he started thinking abt going to brazil in his second year of high school, and the ib diploma programme starts in the last two years of high school so it fits PERFECTLY
lowkey most of the boys take japanese ll sl because they just. have to.
this is also hinata’s case <3
SEHS HL!!! he has a vision for the future and it definitely involves him understanding health and sports and everything like that, especially after nationals in his first year :(((( still sad abt that
but he’s motivated for this higher level class because he’s really just gonna go all out with the research
math ai sl because... he prolly don’t give a fuck about numbers!!! (it hasn’t been made clear already, but math ai sl is the lowest level math course)
he also took theatre hl because even though he does get scared at first, he’s a natural when it comes to learning new cultures
he’s just so curious about it all and it makes him quite engaged in the class as well!!!!
also kinda took theatre because the other subjects were just not it for him
about geography... he hates memorisation but he also hates everything else in the social studies group so
he just gets by by trying to find the little details of the things he’s studying interesting because really... geography class is just the base of all the places on his bucket list
hinata’s def one of those dudes who picks his subs purely off of liking because we all know he’s going. any subject that isn’t based off of liking is usually a mandatory subject anyways

Random Haikyuu headcanons Bc it’s 2 AM
I PROMISE ILL GET BACK TO REGULAR REQUESTS BUT PLS JUST LET ME GET THESE IDEAS OUT FIRST-
Also this might just be me getting all my Yamayachi feelings out because I love them-
Warnings: spoilers! Mentions of porn, Bara tiddies, and Ushijima being an absolute dork
-Yachi speaks incredible English post time skip. She just kinda picked it up?? I know it’s canon that she does well in English class but by the time she’s an adult, she’s nearly mastered it. It helps when she’s talking to foreign clients plus it’s just a neat skill to have
-Kiyoko actually can’t cook and it’s Ryuu that usually does the cooking in their house. She tries so hard to cook but she honestly just can’t wrap her head around it. For a while it made her feel bad, she just wanted to make all of Ryuu’s favorite meals, but he assures her that everything’s perfectly fine and that he’d be more than happy to be in the kitchen and impress her w all his sweet chef skills (he most definitely has one of those “kiss the cook” aprons and he uses it as an excuse to get kisses despite the fact that Kiyoko will happily give them to him even w/o the apron)
-Sugawara refuses for admit it, but he’s secretly a kpop Stan. He likes most popular groups like BTS and Black pink but he’ll happily listen to any group if somebody suggests it to him or he finds the album covers interesting (or he finds one of the members hot bc same) Multiple people, including Kiyoko and Yamaguchi, have caught him listening to kpop or have caught him in public in some weird/shitty disguise buying an album the same manner someone would buy crack, but they have yet to say anything about it
-Yamaguchi and Yachi have gone on multiple pseudo-dates. Yamaguchi will ask to hang out somewhere with Yachi as his plus one because Tsukki’s busy so they go and they hang out and it’s awesome. I say pseudo-date because while Yamaguchi’s still definitely crushing on Yachi, he doesn’t call it a date because he’s never explicitly stated it as such (plus he feels a little unfair about it since he was planning on bringing Tsukki in the first place)
-Ushijima keeps a lot of plants in his house post timeskip and he talks to them as if they’re people. He names all of his succulents after his high school teammates because he’s soft like that but his favorite one is obviously named Satori. He has absolutely sent Tendou messages about these plants and Tendou thinks his heart is going to burst when Ushijima tells him he named one after him.
-Speaking of plants. Ushijima once accidentally killed his cactus by dropping it and a single tear dripped from his eye before he full blown started silently sobbing on the floor. The plant had a name and everything and he just wanted to put it in a better spot- how could he have done this WHY HIM. Amidst this breakdown he urgently FaceTimes Tendou and when he picks up to see Ushijima crying he’s ready to fight someone but when Ushijima disstressedly tells him that he had killed his cactus (“I’m a murderer Satori-“) Tendou couldnt help but want to laugh at how cute he was being. He didn’t though, and instead offered his comfort and condolences (“He’s in a better place Ushiwaka- shh, it’s ok-“)
-Natsu once went through Shoyo’s stuff, probably looking for something that he borrowed from her, and she found a whole bunch of magazine pages and corners sticking out from his bed. She was so scared and was preparing herself to find some hella raunchy over the top porn but instead she found multiple crumpled issues of Volleyball Monthly. She doesn’t know whether to feel relieved that Shōyō isn’t into that stuff or sad because that boy is literally the embodiment of “head empty, no thought, only volleyball” - no wonder why he’s still single
-Ushijima and Aone can both do that weird thing where they move their pecs individually. Aone likes to use it to occasionally freak out Futakuchi and Koganegawa for some odd reason begs Aone to teach him how to do it too. Futakuchi dies a little more on the inside every time he sees them “training. As for Ushijima, he just kinda does it one time and ofc Tendou sees and suddenly time that was supposed to be spent changing out of uniform became everyone crowding around Ushijima’s pecs to witness them in all their glory
-Tsukkishima and Yamaguchi are both MONSTERS at DDR. Them and the other first years all went out to an arcade to fool around one time and there was a DDR machine so they jumped on and started fucking KILLING it to the point that they had all the little middle schoolers crowding around them in awe and while Tsukki is low key embarrassed about it, Yamaguchi feels absolutely amazing and does multiple jumps and spins and maybe even winks at Yachi because that’s how cool it makes him feel. For one of their pseudo-dates he takes her back again to play DDR and it’s really cute

So much to watch, not enough time in the week - What does Fall 2020 look like?
A list of what looks interesting in the next season and silly reasons as to why
Tumblr media
I’m not the sort of person who likes finding out too many (in some cases even a smidgen of) details about anime I’m going to watch, so this will be a spoiler free preview of the season. Here is a list of anime I will try and you can expect to hear about on Kagemajaya.
Click on the show names to be taken to their MAL pages for more detail.
Hype
Taisou Zamurai
A male cast gymnastics anime from MAPPA (the studio of Yuri!!! on Ice.) Enough said.
Watch the trailer here.
Tumblr media
Chuan Shu Zijiu Zhinan
This one’s a bit of a cheat as we’ve already seen 2 episodes of it (3 for those who have VIP accounts on weTV.) However, I was indeed hype for it before it started. Based on a BL novel by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu, the author of Mo Dao Zu Shi, this one promises a lot to people who enjoy transmigration, cultivation and a bit of gay. It is also a quite funny isekai parody. The only downside is that it doesn’t share the same visual quality as MDZS, and is entirely 3D. It’s a good thing I’m not much of a stickler for hot visuals.
Watch it here on its official stream.
Tumblr media
Tian Guan Ci Fu
Another donghua based on a BL novel, well-known among the danmei fans also by its English name of Heaven Official’s Blessing. Also written by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu (boy, are they busy.) And a big plus: it’s not 3D, so really looking forward to watching handsome men cultivate together in pseudo-historic China. Beautiful setting, beautiful boys. Now one can only hope for an interesting plot too and we are set.
Watch the trailer here.
Cautiously Expectant
Tumblr media
Yuukoku no Moriarty
I saw manga adverts for this one all around Akihabara and Ikebukuro last year when I went on a little trip to Japan. The bishie Professor Moriarty was an immediate pull, and as a Holmes fan, I feel attracted to most of its adaptations, despite almost always being let down. The one thing that makes me cautious about this one is that it is published by a shounen magazine that is not GFantasy, so I’m not sure if the bishie designs and the male cast actually mean what I want it to mean. Fingers crossed.
Watch the trailer here.
Giving It a Shot
Inu to Neko Docchi mo Katteru to Mainichi Tanoshii
A cute looking comedy short about a dog and a cat.
Tumblr media
Jujutsu Kaisen
A mostly male cast Shounen Jump affair. Spring 2020’s Kakushigoto also implied that it has a fujoshi fanbase - let’s see what that’s all about.
Maesetsu!
A female cast gag comedy sol created by Lucky Star’s Yoshimizu Kagami. I watched Lucky Star fairly recently and found it quite entertaining with many sweet/funny characters. I suppose we will see if Yoshimizu still has it. Fingers crossed.
Adachi to Shimamura
I try to watch all queer anime as they come, and this comes in from the shoujo ai quota. Looks like a pretty straightforward romance. Hopefully it will have heart.
Kaeru no Pickles: Kimochi no Iro
All I know about this one is that it has a chill looking poster and has a slice of life tag on MAL. I’m not entirely sure whether we’ll get this subbed, but if we do, I’ll give it a shot.
Kami-tachi ni Hirowareta Otoko
Fell for the slice of life tag once again. This one is an isekai with a soft looking MC. Not entirely sure it’ll be up my alley, but no harm in trying it, maybe for a pleasant surprise.
Sore dake ga Neck
This one seems to have the cool setting of a convenience store. I did initially think this was going to be a sol as well, but seems like that might not be the case. Either way, cool setting.
Hypnosis Mic: Division Rap Battle - Rhyme Anima
Another anime whose source project I saw plastered all around Tokyo. I’m not a huge fan of idol shows but the rapping bit makes me a bit curious.
Noblesse
A manhwa massively popular among female fans which has also received one off adaptations before, it’s finally getting its turn for a full cour among the hype the industry seems to have for Korean webtoons these days (Kami no Tou, God of High School, etc.) I did watch one of the OVA’s years ago, and wasn’t entirely impressed but then again I can’t judge a whole work based on one arc adapted into a single episode. Male cast action stuff. We shall see and judge.
Magatsu Wahrheit: Zuerst
This was chosen entirely on my shallow criteria as usual: visuals with two dudes on them. Now we’ll see whether the German name is a cringe factor or it’s actually interesting.

Osomatsu-san 3rd Season
Osomatsu-san has been a consistently high quality production for me since the beginning. The humor is definitely my cup of tea, though as with any episodic gag comedy, some sketches do miss. It is more often than not a hit. The seiyuu cast is a huge huge pull, as this is not them only acting out an already written character but you can actually hear them having fun as the sextuplets. It is also one of the rarer shows where I, as a person who isn’t great at focusing on visuals, appreciate the impeccable quality of animation. So hype for another season of this majorly fun series and to welcome Matsuno’s back home - coziness, here I come.
Quanzhi Gaoshou 2
I watched the first season of Quanzhi Gaoshou (or King’s Avatar) because it was made by the studio of MDZS, and it was the first time I had seen a good looking Chinese animation production. And it didn’t disappoint. Production quality was similar and more importantly, it had a very engaging plot - pro MMORPG players playing MMORPG,  their personal dramas and the actual (surprisingly fun for me) gameplay and action. Its most important quality is still its charming cast for me, a successful ensemble cast, where with the exception of the antagonists, everyone and their relationships are lovely. Mostly a male cast show, it does also have nice ladies. Looking forward to going back to them. My only personal issue (definitely not a flaw on the show’s part but my attention span) is that it has so many teams and characters that I forgot most of who was who. Fingers crossed it’ll be easy to get back into.
Haikyuu!!: To the Top 2nd Season
Haikyuu is back again, to finish off the “To the Top” arc. The first cour of this season was probably the season that took me out of the Haikyuu hypnosis state where I assumed everything that came out with the name attached to it was great. It was still enjoyable in its second half but I do feel like the magic has worn off now. I hope I’m wrong and the tournament hype will bring it back again. Haikyuu is at its best when it’s tense in-match and funny with character interactions, so fingers crossed for that.
Ani ni Tsukeru Kusuri wa Nai! 4
The Chinese comedy short is back! As mentioned a couple of paragraphs ago, gag comedies are always hit or miss with their sketches, and this one is also mostly a hit for me, though definitely not at the level of Osomatsu-san. The pull of this show is the cute boys and their dumbassery. Looking forward to its easy fun and more Kai Xin.
Also continuing...

Mo Dao Zu Shi Q, Great Pretender
Have been enjoying both these shows greatly so far. 2 more cours of MDZS Q to go with their cute chibi fun, and Great Pretender’s last case (9 eps) is already released on Japanese Netflix so now we wait for Laurent and the gang to reach us. Really looking forward to the emotional drama of Laurent and hopefully some proper addressal of his feelings for Edamame. Either way, it’ll look gorgeous and will be heaps of fun if the first three cases are anything to go by.
I might pick up other shows and most likely drop some of these throughout the season but here’s hoping it will be enjoyable overall despite the small number of shows I’ll start with. What are you guys planning to watch?

Haikyuu CH 381 Ramblings  Spoilers Ahead!
AKAAAAASHI!!!!!
AKAASHI IS BACK!!!!
He is back and he’s friends with Tenma! And he’s wearing glasses, I am all for the pretty setter wearing glasses.
My owl child is an editor of manga magazine and I love it. I laughed at the bit where it said he wanted to be in the literature department.
Akaashi gets freaked out by the twins' telepathy, Akaashi you have no room to talk, you and Bokuto clearly can have telepathy too.
It was adorable when they all freaked out about Romero's serve, their inner fanboy came out.
I adored the twin flashback. Even though they are going separate ways they are still pushing each other forwards and pushing each other to go beyond just their best.
Osamu ripping on Atsumu was hilarious. Though Osamu ain’t fooling anyone, he is proud of his brother and it shows on his face.
Atsumu and Hinata doing that quick gave me chills.
Kageyama being able to get it shouldn’t have surprised me as much as it did. He was the one who helped create it and was Hinata’s teammate for three years, he would have gotten accustomed to Hinata’s movements and would not be surprised by his actions. Though the fact that it went out of bounds was kinda funny.
The brazil crew calling Hinata a ninja was wonderful.
The bokuaka moment! I love those two so much. I love that they remembered what they said before and said it again. (Plus Akaashi called Osamu by Bokuto’s nickname so they probably talk every day.)
I think that just speaks to how amazing Hinata truly is regardless if he needs a setter to pass him the ball.
The Kageyama and Atsumu rivalry?? I think yes! Poor Kageyama, he is just jealous he doesn't get to set to Hinata anymore. Also, the fact that there’s someone who can be that close to Kageyama’s skills (other than Oikawa) is very interesting to see.
THIS QUICK IS FASTER?! What does this mean? I mean I know what it means but I’m intrigued to see how the Alders will deal with it.
