#just for her decision to hurt him anyways just in a different way but the only other option would probably be Percy ending up dead

what i wish people would also explore more when it comes to Percy is the other side of his feelings about his mom about family and his childhood but this fandom is too afraid to paint Sally even in the slightest bad light (even if it's not bad just acknowledging her flaws because she's a human being and not perfect) that no one will touch on that subject. like yes Sally is the best mom but she also isn't and that's the thing! She isn't perfect! but she tried her best but her best still got Percy hurt and it isn't her fault at all but that's the tragedy of it. i want Percy's feelings about this explored. how he grew up with a loving mom but an abusive step father. how his step father would humiliate him and call him stupid but then his mom soothed him and told him he's not the things Gabe calls him. how Gabe would hurt him and Sally would be there to make him happy and loved but at the same time she stayed with him. i want Percy's feelings explored about how he knows his mother loves him but her absence still hurt him. she would work so much to have money to raise him she did that for him but at the same time it meant Percy was left alone or with Gabe. Sally gave up so much for him, she sent him away to protect him but at the same time he was sent away from his mom. she's the only parent he has because his father is absent and Gabe is not actually a parental figure at all but she's also often absent in his life too and that must have left him with such mixed feelings because it's not all black and white! Sally's love protected him but also hurt him. Percy loves his mom so so so much but there's also this deep-seated bitterness and hurt and anger he never let himself feel and then the guilt for having those feelings because his mom loves him he knows that and she gave up so much for him and she married a monster that abused her to protect him, he knows that but it doesn't make it hurt any less. the mess his emotions are because he knows his mom suffered for him and did it from her love for him but he still desperately wishes she never married that monster that he wouldn't have to have the childhood he had with him that he wouldn't have to live with the trauma he was left with. this all is exactly what makes their relationship so fascinating and also heartbreaking.
or the idea of Percy having weird mixed feelings after Estelle is born because that's his little sister and he loves her with his whole heart and would do anything for her and wants only the best for her but there's also this little jealous monster deep down that wonders why she gets to have a loving mom and a loving dad and a happy normal life but he never got that. why does she deserve it but not him? why couldn't he have that too? doesn't he deserve that too? he was just a child too so why why why??? and then the guilt of feeling that way too it makes me want to scream. emotions are fucking messy and they can be really ugly and they can make you hate yourself and there's no way Percy's feelings aren't a mess when it comes to this and i want to see it explored so badly!
and with Sally too! her feelings about Percy because she did so much and tried her best but sometimes unfortunately your best isn't good enough and it still got her beloved son hurt and she hates it and feels so guilty but she just has to live with that but she can't help to wish it was different. that their lives would be different. better. normal. she can't help but to wish she didn't have to do the things she's done, didn't have to suffer so much just to protect her child. can't help to wish she didn't have to worry so much, didn't have to be so scared about Percy, didn't have to be terrified that one day he won't come back home to her, that she won't be able to hold her son anymore because he will be gone, she just wishes he didn't have to suffer so much, she just wishes and wishes and wishes
and i just wish people weren't so afraid to explore this because it's so heartwrenching and yes if you want something do it yourself but unfortunately i cannot write nor am i able to handle this topic in a way it deserves so i am left only with rambling about it on here thank you
#i am not trying to victim blame or anything i love Sally and she did her best and didn't deserve any of the crap life gave her#but there's just something so tragic about the fact that she married a vile man and suffered abuse to protect her son#just for her decision to hurt him anyways just in a different way but the only other option would probably be Percy ending up dead#so she can't really truly regret it but she just wishes those weren't their only options#that she didn't have to do this just so that her child could stay alive#thinking about it makes me go feral#they had no choice but to suffer there was no way for their lives to be without this much hurt and trauma and it's terrible#and they didn't deserve it but there was so much love too#but the horrible thing is that that love just wasn't enough to save them from all that pain and i need to be sedated bye#percy jackson#sally jackson#pjo#hoo#percy and sally#percy jackon and the olympians#whatever you do don't think about a six years old lonely Percy sitting in a corner waiting for his mom to come back home from work#and he knows she loves him but he misses her so much when she spends so much time in work and that hurts#don't think about a ten years old Percy being sent away to a boarding school and he knows his mom loves him#but what if she's sending him away because he's just too much? or not enough? and what if she doesn't want him anymore?#and he knows that's not true but what if?#i'm thinking it#okay i think that's enough

𝚆𝙴𝙻𝙻, 𝚃𝙷𝙴 𝚅𝙴𝚁𝙳𝙸𝙲𝚃'𝚂 𝙸𝙽: as a lot of you may know by know [ if you've caught any of my previous posts about it ], i'm moving with my parents back to california from texas -- where i've been for about 30 years -- because overall? it'll be good for me. i'm sick of texas for the most part, i literally can't afford to live on my own [ and honestly? i like being near my parents and would just have more security and better quality of life in CA ], and i just think sometimes a change is good!
i've been waiting to see if my job will let me keep my job [ and continue to pay me dirt, even! ] ... all i was asking is that i can live in california and work remote. well, the owner has decided he will not allow me to do that. is there a good reason? in my opinion: no. he's framing it [ in his conservative white man rich business owner brain ] that I'M the one making the choice to move because i could apparently just as easily stay in texas and get my own place etc etc etc. so it's on me! unfortunately, it's just not that simple, but i guess from a guy who runs a family business and has multiple homes, it's just hard to really grasp that concept.
i'm literally so furious and so heartbroken at the same time. i know it's not the best company, and yeah i guess, we can say this is for the best in the end? but that doesn't make it hurt less. i've been there for almost 11 fucking years. my ENTIRE career out of college. through ups and downs, i was always working my ass off and being a great employee ... shining reviews and reputation with literally everyone. it just hurts that that ultimately means nothing when i'm finally asking for something in return. i take the poverty wages, take the working in the office when i hate it for the most part, i've taken having to hear misogynistic, homophobic, transphobic, every-phobic thing over the years ... then i ask for ONE thing in 11 years [ that's literally not even a big ask ] and it's a ✨no✨.
i feel so lost. like i don't even know how to be without this job, and as much as people tell me YOU'RE SO TALENTED! YOU'RE SO GREAT! YOU'LL FIND SOMETHING SOOOO MUCH BETTER! i wanna believe it, but my brain just ... doesn't. maybe it's imposter syndrome or just how fucking down on myself i feel right now. i still appreciate it because i literally don't know what i would do without my friends and family's support right now like ... even if i can't see it for myself, it means the literal world to me.
plus sides [ i guess ]: i should be able to keep my laptop [ but i'll lose adobe cc so ... i may need some recs or help on how to at least get photoshop cause idk how i'll carry on without it lmao ]; my manager who is a literal saint and one of the best people i know [ she actually pissed the owner off going to the mat for me lmao "he doesn't like to be questioned" ... insert the biggest eye-roll of my life ] ... but she said she would help me with literally everything from linkedin to my resume to a portfolio, and i know that'll be like everything to me while i just .... try to navigate all of this ON TOP OF trying to move.
ALSO: i think i can work until i leave, if that's what i want to do ... i'm still trying to figure all of this out because honestly? even though it's not much? i need the money. but then i'm also like i don't wanna do the owner any favors by having me work while they maybe start putting out feelers to replace me, yknow? BUT THEN AGAIN, i'm hurting my boss more than him [ and that's the twisted, frustrated thing about all of this ... it hurts us way more than it does anything to him but he still gets to make the choice for us ]. SO! i dunno! i may just use all my PTO and see how far that gets me lmao but i feel like at the end of the day, i have to look out for myself and maybe just trying to pull in as many paychecks as i can [ since we also don't have a hard 'we're moving!' date at the moment ] is the best idea ... even if the idea of going into the office and acting normal like literally makes me so ... 😤 but i dunno! my brain is a mess! afjhksdfda
SO YEAH. i just wanted to update you guys because i do consider you friends. whether we talk a little or a lot, i appreciate all of you so much and just wanted to keep folks in the loop with where my life and my head's at right now. not the best but ... just trying to keep it moving. honestly nooooo clue when writing is gonna happen here again??? i do miss / enjoy the distraction of plotting and talking about all this stuff so don't be shy, i just don't know when i'll have the time or capacity to just write here [ maybe once we move and stuff settles a little bit? ] -- but yeah, in the meantime, please come chat with me, let's plot dynamics and all that shit because it still makes me so happy and lets me take my mind on a little vacation lmao love you all, truly! ❤️

satoru doesn't know why something in him ached when he randomly spotted his best friend, his dear best friend, suguru with you, on a random place and at a random time.
your backs were turned to him but he surely didn't like the way you cling to his best friend, it hurts him in many ways he couldn't explain but, satoru knew too well that he doesn't have the rights to feel that way, that's because every pain and sorrow that has happened to his life would be different if he didn't do that one big mistake.
ever since the divorce, satoru never saw you again. you left and none of the people you knew where you've gone to. satoru thought it was for the best that you should be away from him because the moment he feels vulnerable again, he would look for your presence, even though you weren't together anymore.
although sometimes, satoru do hope that you didn't run away from him. he wanted to fix everything, to apologize, to try things with you again. he never wanted anyone other than you. you were the only person that could see his other sides, the only person who knew him very very well, the only person he wanted to grow old with but everything was too late already.
he shouldn't have listened to you when you pushed him away and there, he would've never saw the pain look in your face when both of you separated your ways, he would've never saw the way you tried to stop yourself from crying infront of him, and he would've never saw the way you accepted to keep your wedding rings so desperately as if he would still be around you if you keep it.
satoru regretted every decision he made up until now, it was all of his fault, it was his fault why you had to leave, everything was his fault, you didn't have a choice because of him and he hoped that you've already forgave him for that. he really hoped so.
because of the heavy thoughts, satoru didn't know why his feet brought him to his best friend's apartment. maybe to ask how you were doing? are you still single? do you have a new lover now? was it suguru? are you both dating? oh gosh, he hoped not. it could be anyone but his best friend.
"(name) trusted you with it suguru, you shouldn't break your promise." satoru suddenly stopped on his tracks. that was shoko's voice, he was sure of it.
"but, don't you think he still has the right to know? satoru's the father after all."
"you're right though but—"
"what did you just say?" both eyes were widened at the sudden appearance as satoru revealed himself from hiding as he went closer to his best friends.
"when did you—"
"i'm the father? what do you mean?" satoru asked as he furrowed his eyebrows and suguru looked away from him. satoru could recognize the worried look of his best friend's face. "shoko?"
"well.." she mumbled, looking at suguru.
"are you hiding something from me?" satoru asked.
"it's not like that—" shoko said.
"then why do you both look nervous?"
"satoru." suguru called as he felt shoko's hand stop him and she shake her head left to right. "i'm sorry, but he needs to know."
"needs to know what? come on."
"satoru, you had a child, with (name)." and he couldn't be more surprised as he looked at suguru, lost and confused.
"what?"
"yeah, unfortunately, sanyu is—"
"stop." satoru said as he placed a hand on his temples. "is this some kind of prank? therefore, it's not funny."
"satoru, i'm not lying." suguru said, his expression blank.
"no. that's— that would be impossible.."
"go talk with her, satoru. heh, in the end, i couldn't keep my promise to her, huh?" suguru said as he placed a hand on his nape. "i'll send you the address, go." and satoru didn't waste any more time as he walked towards the front door but suguru stopped him again. "satoru." he called and suguru almost laughed at the worried and somehow excited look on his best friend's face. it's been a while since he saw that.
"what?" satoru said, cleary annoyed and impatient as suguru lightly smiled at him.
"be gentle with her, she's still vulnerable." satoru didn't get what suguru meant by that as he finally left, following the map where suguru had sent him.
Tumblr media
you knew this day would've eventually come as you stand face to face with your ex-husband, he was panting and you were just about to go back home from the convenience store.
"(name).." he whispered your name as he took a step close to you, another one, and then another one as he started sprinting, embracing you in his arms and no one knew how much he missed feeling you around his arms. you let him embrace you but you stopped yourself from doing the same thing, you just stood there.
"why are you here?" you asked as satoru pulled away, his sleeve flying on his eyes as he slightly rubbed it. he was about to tear up.
"is it true?" satoru asked and he hoped you get what he meant with the question as you slowly nod your head.
"let's go inside my home first. it's getting cold here. i'll tell you everything there."
and there both of you ended up inside your home as satoru quietly inspected the surroundings. there was your picture and his son hanging on the wall.
"here." you said, handing him a glass of water. "i'm guessing suguru told you?"
"no. i actually overheard them."
"i see."
"so, where's.. um— can i see our child?" he asked and your heart ached at his question. you thought suguru told him already?
satoru didn't know what to do you when you started sobbing as you covered your face with your palms.
"you can't." you mumbled, wiping your tears as you look down on your lap.
"i understand.. but if you're—"
"you can't, satoru. we can't—"
"i know. i know you still don't trust me but i promise i will—"
"he's gone, satoru! don't you understand it? he's gone, he's dead, we can't see him anymore!" you exclaimed. everything was just overwhelming and you didn't mean to yell at him. "i'm sorry." you mumbled, once again, covering your face with your hands as you cry.
you felt his presence beside you as he wrapped his arms around you. he didn't know what else to do and satoru thought being close to you will help, being close to you will maybe help his almost shattering soul.
"i'm sorry." satoru said as he felt your arms around him. was this suguru meant when you were still vulnerable. he should've asked suguru to be more clear so there, satoru would know how to comfort you very well.
"i'm sorry, satoru. i kept him away from you when he wanted to see you. i should've pushed aside my own feelings and let sanyu meet you but i just couldn't, and now guilt is eating me up. it's my fault he couldn't see his papa on his last days. it was his last wishes but—"
"shh, stop it already. it's okay. don't blame yourself."
"i'm really sorry." no. satoru told himself he doesn't deserve your apologies and thinks everything was his fault to begin with.
"it was my fault that i couldn't be there for you. for our son. i deserve all the blame." satoru said as you slightly pulled away from him as you wiped your tears.
"it's not your fault either. sanyu was born with a weak heart. i couldn't protect him with that, no?" you said as you placed your hands on your lap.
"when we met at the parking lot, was that?.." you nodded your head in response as you recalled that day.
"that was the day after sanyu died." you mumbled and satoru couldn't help but clench his jaw. if only he knew.
satoru snapped out of his thoughts when he felt you sit up from the couch as you kneeled infront of the small table, taking something beneath it as you went back beside him.
"come, i'll show you his pictures." you said as you smiled at him and satoru couldn't help but mirror you. just for now, maybe you both could be happy, even just for now.
-
"he even cut his own hair, look!" you exclaimed, pointing a certain picture as satoru laughed with you.
he missed a lot things. when you were carrying his child, when his son was born, when his son was growing up. he wasn't there to witness everything and he almost– no, he regrets it so so much.
"i almost dyed his hair black 'cause he reminds me of you so much." you sighed as you closed the album, finally reaching its end as you place it on the table.
"we really do look like each other." satoru said as you lightly smile at him.
"you're not wrong." you responded and suddenly, it became silent.
"i'm sorry (name)." he started as you stayed still in your position. "i tried looking for you." he continued as he held your hand on his with you still avoiding to look at him. "why didn't you tell me before?" he said and that's what made you look at him. is he seriously asking you that?
"i don't know, satoru. do you?" you asked and he was completely taken aback.
"you should definitely go home now, someone might be waiting for you.." you said as you stand up from the couch, only for him to stop you by your wrist.
you looked at him for a moment and he did too. he opened his mouth to speak but no words came out as your hand slowly slipped out of his grasp and you turned your back at him.
"if you want to know more about sanyu, just ask."
Tumblr media
it's been a week since you and satoru talked things out. it felt good to be able to talk everything with him. you thought at some point that satoru will hate you even more for not informing him about his son's existence but it was the opposite.
and maybe, you shouldn't have stalked his social and there you wouldn't stumble on his ex' account, because you never knew that it would hurt you this much, that it would hurt your already, broken heart.
you felt some type of jealousy seeing his family be happy in those pictures. they even went on a trip, on different places and many more. satoru looked happy. maybe if those mistakes were prevented back then, it would be you, him and sanyu.
there were missed calls and unread messages from suguru and shoko but you didn't have the energy to reply to each of them.
you just wanted to lay in your bed all day, almost wishing that sanyu would knock at your door asking for a help with his assignment, but no, it wouldn't happen anymore. you were all alone now, you'll never be able to feel happiness again, everything felt too empty for you to feel any type of emotions except for sorrow.
-
your eyes slowly opened when you felt something cold in your forehead.
"you're finally awake."
"what happened?" you asked as you tried to sit up from the bed, only for satoru to push you back.
"don't stand up yet. you passed out on the living room. you've been sleeping for a day already. are you eating? don't starve yourself." he talks too fast that you almost didn't catch his words.
"why are you here?" you asked.
"well.. i guess i want to know more about sanyu." he said as he hesitantly looked at you. "i'm sorry for walking around your house without your permission but, i saw a small shrine on the room beside here. is that sanyu's?" satoru asked as you nod at him.
"i forgot to tell you but i had sanyu cremated."
"okay, i understand."
"you can visit him anytime if you want."
"that would be great. thank you."
Tumblr media
satoru did visit once a week. you noted that it was always on thursdays, just like suguru had told you that satoru's always available on thursdays.
your house would be messy if satoru wasn't around but if you knew that he'll be visiting, you'll force yourself to clean the house. you didn't want him to see you in worst state again, not anymore. he didn't have to know that you were starving yourself, that you would only eat when he brings you food.
he doesn't need to know. not that he would care, right? satoru is not in the position to care for you after all. he only visits for his son, it's wasn't because of you. maybe you should stop being delusional and face the reality that satoru and you couldn't work together anymore. he already has a family on his own. he has nothing to do with you anymore. a part of you is still hoping though but then again, he doesn't need to know.
there was a time where satoru visited you on tuesday. it was unexpected that he caught you almost hurting yourself. house and room messy.
it hurts him to see you like this. he couldn't help but to compare the old you to the you now. a big difference. he doesn't see you smile anymore. he doesn't hear your laugh anymore.
"you needn't to hurt yourself, okay? tell me if i can help in any way." he said as you sit on the couch, knees close to your chest as you stare at nothing.
your thoughts was playing with you because all of the sudden, you recalled everything that has happened between you and satoru. his mistakes, his wrongdoings, his happy family. your blood started to boil and you couldn't help but blame him in your mind. that it was his fault why sanyu have to suffer.
"hey, i know it still hurting you but—"
"you know nothing!" you exclaimed which took him off guard. he was unfamiliar with that look in your face.
"(name), calm down." he said as he tried to reach for you, only for you to slap his hand away.
"shut up! don't order me around! can you just leave my house?" you yelled. "this is all your fault." you mumbled and satoru heard it loud and clear. you weren't wrong though. "leave! i don't want to see you anymore. i hate you."
-
and even if you push him as many times as you want, satoru would not lose hope. he still visits you and sanyu. though he took note of the changes in your mood sometimes.
satoru visited late than usual. you already fell asleep on the couch. you swore you weren't waiting for him or something. it just happened that you got tired from the cleaning the house.
after the usual visit of you and satoru in your child's room both decided to eat the food he brought.
"sorry i was late. i had a hard time choosing a ring—" he cuts off himself with a fake cough as he looked away from you. "anyway, sorry for making you wait."
"it's fine. thank you for bringing me food."
"of course."
today, you seemed a lot more good now. satoru can notice you smile everytime. he didn't want to assume that you're smiling because of him though.
"is there something wrong?" he asked when he noticed you staring at him.
"i'm fine. thank you for visiting." you said as you walked satoru at the front door. "oh wait." you said, walking back to your room as satoru stood still on the front door and you went back after a minute.
"take this." you said, handing him a certain necklace.
"for me?" satoru said, taking the necklace in your hand.
"i asked them to put a little bit of sanyu ashes inside. you can't open that anymore since they locked it." satoru's eyes widened at your words.
"thank you." he said as you smiled at him.
"here, let me help." you said, as you wear the necklace on him. "sanyu will always be by your side, wherever you are." you said as you smiled and suddenly, satoru turned around, his face was too close to you and you think he could almost hear on how loud your beating heart is.
you awkwardly took a step back as you cleared your throat to ease the awkward tension.
"thank you (name), really. i will treasure this." he said as you smiled at him, for the last time.
"sorry for yelling at you sometimes, satoru."
"don't worry, i understand. just let me know if you want to release some stress. i'll try my best to help." he said and despite of answering, you only smiled, again.
"thank you, satoru. sanyu was the best son i could ever have." you said and he suddenly placed a hand on your head. like how he always does before as he leaned to your level.
"thank you for raising our child." he said as you look at him with widened eyes and you couldn't help but frown as you place a hand close to your chest.
stop giving me false hope, satoru.
"take care." you couldn't help but tear up as you whispered those words as satoru left. be happy, always. even if it's without me.
"i had a hard time choosing a ring." you mumbled, mimicking his words.
you smiled but what you were feeling inside was opposite. maybe you shouldn't expect too much because in the end, if reality didn't reach your expectations, it'll just hurt you more.
it really hurts to think that you made a man for another woman but, it is what it is. you're just glad that satoru seemed to cherish his new family now.
he did changed a lot, huh.
Tumblr media
"satoru."
"be quick, suguru. i'm a bit busy right now." satoru said as he heard his best friend sigh at the other line.
"did (name) said something to you?" satoru immediately sat properly on his office chair when he heard your name.
"nothing much. she gave me a necklace though, why?"
"i see. look, if you have time today come in her house."
"why? what happened?"
"do you have a time today, at least?"
"i guess i could try." satoru said. "is there something wrong with (name)." satoru asked and there was a long pause from suguru's end before he answered.
-
satoru went back from what it seemed like a long trip as he sat on his office chair.
he stared at a certain velvet box on his table. his black glasses was discarded as he lightly move the office chair left to right.
he did had a hard time choosing a ring. he doesn't know of you still like the same design. did you change your preferences?he doesn't know that's why satoru bought a limited edition ring for you. he was told that the ring brings luck and now he just wanted to throw the ring in the middle of an ocean.
"brings luck my ass." he muttered. he was too tired to think. he refused to believe suguru's words because he just saw you 2 days ago. was suguru playing pranks on him again?
"she's been found in her room. unalive." suguru's words kept repeating inside his head like a broken radio as he clutched the necklace on his hand.
he was supposed to ask you to start over again, to try things out again, from there, he swore that he wouldn't do the same mistake again but it was all too late now.
maybe the universe didn't want you and him to be together again that's why they took you away from him, his son too. he knew he did mistakes back then but was it too much that they have to take his family away forever?
yeah, this must be his punishment for doing those unforgiving things to you.
-
"suguru, do you think (name) would agree if i ask her to start over again?"
"there's nothing wrong with trying, satoru, but know that people tend to change. don't be surprised when she doesn't want you in her life anymore." suguru said as his best friend kept quiet. "but what about them?"
"who?"
"your ex and your son."
"i couldn't care less about her, but i still cherish sanyu since he grew up with me, even if he's not my legal child."
"you don't really want to tell (name) about it?" suguru suggested and satoru couldn't help but think if he could do what his best friend is suggesting.
"what's the point? will it change everything?" satoru mumble, an ache going straight to his chest. "it hurts for me to say this but i only accepted to raise sanyu because i couldn't stop thinking of (name), of having a family with her. i forced myself to believe that he's our son. i didn't even know that (name) is actually carrying our child."
"why don't you just sue your ex for paternity fraud?"
"there's no point in it. she's still sanyu's mother."
"you're too nice, satoru."
no, he wasn't. in fact, he almost sent his ex to prison but he couldn't stop thinking of how sanyu will react if he found out that his mother was sent to jail by his father. he was too young for those things.
but satoru asks himself, why? why does he have to do these things? why does he have to think of how sanyu would feel? they weren't relatives anyway. he could take everything he spent for raising sanyu, he could just leave them to live their own life, but he just couldn't do it.
"if only i could go back in time." satoru mumbled and suguru didn't know what do respond to that anymore. if only.

Stronger Than The Strongest? Gojo x Reader
Tumblr media
tags: somewhat canon au, reader is a sorcerer, geto doesnt go insane, reader's curse is pretty much yuta's, tooth rotting fluff, not proofread, no smut, fair date, gojo is head over heels, featuring the smiths
A/N: I have 4 hours to fuck around before I need to get to work, wish me luck
2.2k words ON THE DOT!
Being a student sorceror was something you never expected. Finding friends along the way, and even a boyfriend? Unheard of. But here you were, you had a main friend group with Gojo Satoru, the strongest, Geto Suguru, your best friend, and Shoko Ieri, the only sense of the group. She had some medical technique you didnt understand, resulting in her dreams to become a doctor. Geto's and Gojo's were the most powerful. Your cursed technique was a little more complicated than theirs, you didn't even know if it was a cursed technique or luck. Before the Jujutsu world, you were on the streets with one friend, Rika. Until one day, you found her dead. The grief of the incident transformed her into a Curse. She was basically attached to you, she came out when you requested. When she came out, her strength was comparable to Sukuna, king of curses. But you also had trouble controlling her.
You, Geto and Gojo were sent on a mission, which instantly soured your mood. Gojo was so self absorbed and inlove with himself. How the hell did Suguru put up with him? He was a spoiled sheltered boy, you knew how the world rolled, just didn't know how he hadn't been bitch slaped yet (an; im sorry gojo) atleast you had geto with you aswell.
"Y/N! After this, let's go get candy, im hungry!" You rolled your eyes, continuing your walk to an abandoned middle school. There were reports of a Grade 1 curse killing off the kids. While they fucked around, you were focused on analyzing the situation. Would Rika be necessary or could you let them deal with it? You were tired anyway.
You and Geto made the decision to let Gojo handle the curse after you found it. Given his strength, he could handle it. As Gojo muttered something about showing off due to his audience, you took one of Geto's cigerettes and lit it. Throughout a battle, the curse unexpectedly doubled, and then those two doubled. Four curses were now aimed at him. His strategy faltered, raising an eyebrow between the two of you.
Gojo Satoru was struggling, huh. Not something you planned to see in this lifetime. He grunted, falling onto his back after another blow. Did that idiot seriously turn off infinity to show off? "Rika," you said coolly. A dark curse appeared behind you, before going after the duplicates.
Geto laughed and threw his arm over Gojo's shoulder, "You're a dumbass." All he did was roll his eyes.
"I had it under control, y/n just wanted to impress me, right?" This had Geto roaring in laughter. You were walking beside the two, drinking a bottle of water, even more tired than when you came.
"Can't believe you already lost your title," He teased, "The strongest isnt the strongest anymore" Gojo rolled his eyes and laughed it off, but observing him closely, something was different. Fear? Hurt? Did he just get humbled? It was fascinating. They ran off to some candy shop, and that was the end of it.
Maybe.
While you forgot about it, Gojo drove himself crazy. He knew what Geto said was a joke, 80% of what he said was a joke. Now he was obsessing over it. Not even the fact that he struggled, but how nonchalant you were about saving his ass. You still had a cigerette in hand the whole time. The way you effortlessly wielded your cursed techniques, the grace in your movements, and the fire in your eyes ignited something within Gojo. As the minutes ticked by, Gojo found himself unable to focus on anything else. His mind drifted to you. You became more than just a lady to him. He started to stare at you in class, always trying to study with you without Geto, taking note of your beauty. That was another thing that drove him crazy. He knew you were conventually attractive, but now you were so much more.
"That was hilarious," he greeted, a playful glint in his eyes. "You correcting Yaga-sensei. The class was wild!"
You chuckled. "He was making himself look stupid, so yeah."
He chuckled in return, rubbing the back of his head. "You still need help with Math? Im an expert." Where did he learn that from? Geto, who he wouldn't shut up to. Of course, he never shut up, but he was always asking Geto about you. You and Geto were closer friends, considering he was a respectable person unlike Gojo. You two occasionally skated and smoked together, and Gojo was not jealous at all. Even after Geto told him you were like his little sister.
As the conversation continued, Gojo found himself hanging onto your every word, genuinely intrigued by your words. He laughed at your jokes, listened intently to your stories, and even found reasons to touch on shared interests. It wasn't long before he realized that his feelings were evolving beyond a mere admiration for you.
In the following days, Gojo's interactions with you became more intentional. He'd join you for lunch, initiate conversations about non-jujutsu related topics, and even offer his assistance in training. When he found out how much you loved music, he made a playlist for when you two hung out. All your favorites were in there, and he sprinkled in a few love songs by your favorite singers. His once carefree demeanor seemed to soften in your presence, and there were moments when his gaze lingered just a bit longer, his eyes betraying a depth of feeling.
Eyes dont lie, something you've learned throughout your youth. So you hyperfixated on it when talking to people. Thats how you saw through people's bullshit, especially guys who just wanted you for your body. Initially, you assumed Gojo was trying to get in your pants. but now its been 3 months since that mission. 3 months since he's changed his attitude around you. And around a month since you started falling for him aswell.
It wasn't until a quiet evening in the school library that you realized your feelings. He found you reading with your headphones in, smiling as he took a seat next to you. "I love the smiths," You flinched, looking up at him and pulling one headphone to the side.
"Sorry?"
"I said I love the smiths," It took a second, then you smiled, realizing it could be heard from outside. You paused your song, taking them off. "You know, listening to music that loud can make you go deaf."
"Then together we'd make the Helen Keller duo, huh?" He snorted. You laughed aswell. The joke wouldn't be funny anywhere else, but with him, everything seemed to be downright hilarious.
"I'm not blind, my vision is so good I can wear a blindfold and still see perfectly," The conversation dissolved into nonsense. Music, studying, whats new, cats, even the upcoming summer break. Eventually he brought up your curse, interrogating it's ability. "So why does she do everything you say?"
"We have a deal. If I give her energy, she will do as I say. It's like Aki Hayakawa's ability, if you've ever seen-"
"Chainsaw Man!!" He exclaimed, making you smile wider. "I literally love that anime, I binged it at a sleepover with Suguru," Once again, the conversation dissolved into useless stuff. Eventually, it was brought back to Suguru. "Are you secretly crushing on my Sugu?" You snorted.
"He's like my brother."
"Ohh, so you're crushing on me!" You felt a heat on your cheeks, but rolled your eyes.
"That'd be pointless, you have other girls waiting on you." His smile nearly faltered.
"You can't blame them, Im the hottest on campus."
"You know, I don't think I see Sugu as a brother anymore," You said with a smirk. He groaned before gagging.
"Im hotter than him, thats why I have a roster," This time, you gagged.
"thats so cringe. How do you explain him dating Kaelyn then?" He rolled his eyes, changing the subject again. It must be like 1 in the morning now, and he offered to walk you to your dorm. Your comment on him having other girls stuck with him. You were smart, had the highest grades in most of your classes and you were an expert on analyzing. Why couldn't you see his feelings for you? And why was he feeling like a middle school boy, why was it so hard to talk to you? Were you seriously stronger than him?
Gojo, normally the master of composed nonchalance, found himself stumbling over his words. "Y/n," You looked at him. He knew he was obvious, considering Suguru and Shoko always asked him if he had asked you out already. Suguru even told him it was obvious to everyone except for him and you, then calling you two idiots. "You should come to the fair with me tomorrow, I'll pick you up." You smiled brightly, reached the door to your dorm.
"Alright, text me the time. Bye Gojo."
"huh, you still wont call me Satoru," He whined.
"Bye, Satoru"
Shit.
If he wasnt head over heels already he was now.
Four knocks hit your door the next evening. You opened the door for him after fixing your hair for the 32nd time. He looked you up and down, a pink tint growing on his cheeks. "Your outfit is beautiful." Even in its simplicity, beauty can be found. You donned a red tube top, black jacket and bootcut jeans. He wore black jeans and a white tee.
At the fair, you two had tons of fun running around. Geto also came, he brought Kaelyn, who kept calling this a double date. They eventually ran off, leaving you and Gojo alone. You challenged him to one of the games, both wanting the cute cat plushie. He of course won, but decided to give you the plushie. You kept it sticking out of your purse slightly, as if it were Elle Woods and her chihuahua. Your cheeks were sore from smiling and talking so much. It grew dark, meaning it was a busy time for the fair. You didn't think much of it, hell, you weren't even analyzing the crowd so see if anyone had bad intentions. You were so focused on Gojo.
Speaking of being focused on Gojo, he gradually become more and more irritated. You stopped him, having to yell over top the people, asking whats wrong. He tried to play it off, then you realized his head was probably so overwhelmed with how many people were there. You took his hand and walked around, finding a spot behind a hot dog machine. He sat down, groaning and rubbing his temples. "Too many people..." You sat next to him, closer than friends should be. You held his hand, waiting for his migraine to calm down. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to ruin this," Your eyebrow raised, surprised to hear him apologize sincerly.
"Dont, you didn't ruin anything." After a minute, he looked at you, the proximity sending red to his cheeks.
"Suguru was right," You eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "Youre stronger than me," His gazed set on your eyes, then your lips. "Can I kiss you?" You only smiled, leaning closer.
"Yeah," You weren't sure who closed the distance, neither of you were, but your lips were pressed against his. You pulled away, before leaning back in. You'd been waiting for god knows how long. When you pulled away this time, his hand rested on yours again. "I'm not stronger than you, Satoru."
"Theres a million definitions to strength. I can't describe it, but you are stronger than me. As a person." You understood what he meant. You talked about nothing and yet everything, still sitting behind the truck, the noise of people dying down.
"Its about 9:00pm, people are starting to leave. Do you want to ride the ferris wheel?" He smiled, taking your hand and standing up, helping you up after.
"Of course," when you two left, Geto and Kaelyn saw you holding hands and squealed like little kids. They started on who bet what, making Satoru laugh. You were right earlier, there were a lot less people. 'Nobody Gets Me' was playing faintly in the background.
How am I supposed to tell you?
I dont wanna see you with anyone but me
On the ferris wheel, he had one arm wrapped around your shoulder, his other hand holding yours.
Nobody gets me like you
How am I supposed to let you go
You looked into the stars, mesmerized by their beauty. Satoru stared at you, just like you stared into the stars. He could get lost in you. Satoru wasn't a man who had plans for the future. He knew he would have to be a sorceror, and he'd die being one. He was okay with that on the terms that he wouldn't be bored, and he'd have a really fucking cool death. Now that had changed, all he wanted to do was grow old with you. He was okay dying of sickness or age, as long as you were by his side.
Only like myself when Im with you
Nobody gets me, you do

Hello! I have a request please! Loving the idea of bucky and reader having a relationship/hookup but not staying together. Then reader gets a new bf, but bucky catches her still wearing his own shirt to bed or something, and teases her about wishing they were still together etc. you decide how it ends 😈 have been listening to “smells like me” by Charlie Puth lately and can’t stop thinking about this scenario!!
18+
I love this and ofc this is going to have a happy fluffy ending but some angst and steaminess throughout because I am a sucker for this type of scenario.
Some angst, jealousy, possessive horny Bucky, all the smut, Bucky's filthy mouth, needy sex, some cheating but i promise it adds to the spice okay? (plus the guy is a loser)
-
It was a mutual decision to break up. At least that’s what you both told yourselves. It started off as a mutual transaction; just hooking up and staying friends with benefits so nothing would get complicated. You and Bucky fucked like rabbits in every position and every surface imaginable. Things were great, until they weren’t.
You caught feelings. He kept his hidden.
Bucky didn’t think he could do a relationship. You wanted more.
He initiated the break up and while it hurt you, you both agreed it was for the best since you wanted different things.
That was months ago.
Moving on wasn’t easy but you weren’t going to waste your life away crying over someone who didn’t want you. You started dating again and eventually you found something relatively stable. Things were fine. Good. Bucky had avoided you completely after the break up but took a sudden interest in you again after he found out you were seeing someone.
“So, you’re actually into this guy?” He raised an eyebrow, hanging around the kitchen, unable to contain his curiosity after he saw you arrive home from your date. He felt a drop of something deep in his chest, seeing you in a dress he had never seen before. His knuckles were nearly white, clenching his hands to his sides to keep himself in check but his jaw clenched hearing the click of your heels against the tile floor.
All dressed up for some other man.
“Mhm” You shrugged, grabbing a bottle of water from the fridge, avoiding eye contact with the super solider. You were over him. You were so over him. You had a boyfriend and you were over Bucky. You had to be. “Why else would I go out with him”
“He doesn’t seem like your type” Bucky sassed, hoping to mask the bubbling jealousy that continued to rise in his chest.
“Oh, and you know what my type is?” You spat back, turning on your heel to glare at him. “You’re an expert on who I should date?”
“I’m just saying” He took a few steps towards you, “I thought you had better standards” He knew what he was doing, biting his lip, watching your chest heave, the eyes that used to roll back from pleasure now throwing daggers at him.
“Well I like him. Who I date isn’t any of your concern anyway James” Your nails dug into your palms, deciding against entertaining his shit any longer, holding your tongue back. Bucky felt something pang in his stomach watching the way your hips swayed as you stormed off to your room without looking back.
****
Bucky couldn’t stand it.
He figured you’d drop this guy eventually but it only got worse.
You brought your boyfriend around the compound more.
He’d occasionally stay for movie night.
Bucky would have to watch you cuddle up with him, the both of you going back to your room after for God knows what. He’d see the guy sitting in the living room, waiting for you to get ready for your dates. For fucks sake, he was even there at breakfast after he spent the night over.
Every time your boyfriend did something, Bucky would mentally correct him. He could see your body tense whenever he put his arm around you; you liked being held securely and this guys arm dangled lightly behind your waist. He never gave you his full attention when you spoke, never remembered the little details about you. Bucky was sure he had caught him flirting with some of the other agents, holding himself back from punching him in the jaw.
Fuck, he didn’t even kiss you properly. It was too hesitant, too gentle, Bucky knew how you loved to be kissed, how to make you weak in the knees. He would have ran his fingers through your hair, tugging it back, tilting your face up, to look at him. He would have cupped your cheeks, one hand cradling the back of your head while the other gently wrapped around your neck, his teeth gently nipping your lips. He wouldn’t have given a fuck about people being around, if you were his girl he would have-
No. Never mind.
Your new boyfriend clearly didn’t know what he was doing anywhere. On more than one occasion, Tony had a shit eating grin on his face because Bucky had you screaming over the sound proof walls.
Why the fuck were you with him when should have been with..
Someone else.
Though there was one other thing Bucky had noticed. One thing he made note of multiple times, his ego growing more every time it happened.
You wandered down to the kitchen before bed to get a glass of water, stopping when your eyes landed on the brunette super solider, his sweats low on his hips, his upper body on full display after he left his hoodie in the gym. You decided to ignore him, grabbing a cup and filling it, your breath hitching hearing his low voice.
“I thought that shirt looked familiar” He took a few steps towards you, noting the way you kept your eyes trained on your glass.  “You look comfy”
“I-
“You what” Bucky smirked, his eyes raking up and down your bare legs, cocking his head while you backed yourself against the counter. “What is it sweets”
“Nothing” you swallowed thickly, mentally scolding yourself for getting caught wearing his Henley to bed. You had no excuse, you had plenty of your own over sized t-shirts you could have worn but....
“Does your boyfriend know where you got that shirt, why you sleep with it almost every night” You couldn't bring yourself to speak, shaking your head, heart racing. “You know I noticed you wear it all the time, even when your snuggled up with him. You just can’t stop yourself can you, he’s not the same”
He’s not you.
“You still think about me, hm?” Bucky couldn't help himself, a part of him knowing he had no right to look at you like that, you had a boyfriend but his body was moving on its own, pressing you against the counter, his lips dropping to your ear. “Does he fuck like I can?”
“Bucky stop” You tried to ignore the shiver that ran through your body, his hips pressing against you, his erection digging into your hip. You bit your lip, trying to keep your hands from palming his chest, avoiding his eyes.
“Tell me, does he touch you like I do?” He kept his hands to his sides but he couldn't help but rock his hips against you, his cock achingly hard, desperate for some relief. He let out a strained groan, precum starting to dampen his brief's.
“Bucky-” You tried to push him away from you but he pressed himself against you harder, your back digging against the counter. “Stop” Your voice was a whimper, you knew you could have pushed him off if you wanted to...you should have...
“Does he make love to you like me, reach that spot that makes you scream?” His nose dragged along the column of your neck, his tongue gliding across your skin, filthy mouth unrelenting.
“Does his cock fill you like mine does”
No.
“Does he nurse on your clit like I do, suck and kiss that sweet, pretty little nub of yours until his face is soaked with your cum? Does he lick and drink your sweetness like I do baby, does he get hard just off the way you taste?”
No.
“Does he make himself cum on your bed from just rubbing himself on it when he’s between those thighs? Does he worship your body like I do princess, tell me, does he stroke his cock every night, moaning for you?”
No.
“Does he paint your body with cum, does it clean it off nice? Lick off every drop of the mess he makes like I do? You miss that, don’t you baby, you miss my hot cum on your body, you miss my warm tongue cleaning you up right afterwards? You miss it filling your pussy up and dripping onto the sheets, you miss the way I fuck it right back into you and have you suck if off my cock”
You didn’t even realize you had parted your legs, letting his thigh press against your needy cunt, your hips rocking and grinding on him as he continued to lure you to him, he couldn't hold back any longer.
“Look at you rubbing yourself on me princess, he doesn’t satisfy you does he?” You let out a broken moan, grinding on his thigh harder while gripping onto the counter, it was wrong, you knew it was wrong but it all felt so right.
“I know he doesn’t, I know you still touch yourself thinking about me, these sweet little fingers-” He grabbed your hand, nipping your finger tips with his teeth, “-aren’t enough are they baby, his cock isn’t enough, you need mine, huh doll?”
You tried to shake your head but you nodded instead, there was no point in lying now. Bucky growled, grabbing your hips, helping you rock yourself on him more.
“Tell me you need my cock”
“I-I need-fuck-”
“Say it baby, tell me you need me to fill your pussy up”
“B-Bucky” Your thighs squeezed together around his, your body nearly trembling feeling his lips suck onto your neck.
“That’s not what you call me, c’mon, say it”
“Daddy”
“That’s it” He cooed, sliding his hands down your panties, finding your soaked cunt dripping for him, your body easily betraying you. “So wet for daddy already” He shoved his fingers up your needy cunt, crooking them to rub against your sweet spot making you bite down onto his bare shoulder to keep your screams down.
“Tell daddy you want his fat cock baby”
“Wan’ it daddy” You nearly wailed at the stretch of his fingers alone, nothing compared to the feel of the cool metal scissoring and pumping in you, moving faster. Bucky could tell by the way you bit down harder, your nails digging into his skin, you were close. He pulled his fingers out, shoving them in his mouth instead, greedily sucking off your arousal.
“MMmgh, God you’re so sweet- Fuck this” Bucky grabbed you, tossing you over his shoulder, taking you straight to his room and throwing you onto his bed. He got rid of his sweats and brief's within seconds, stripping you naked immediately after. He crawled on top of your body, parting your legs, his warm breath fanning your face. You whined at the feel of his length rutting against your core, a part of your brain screaming at you to stop.
“Bucky, we can’t” You couldn't help but spread your legs further, bringing your thighs up.
“Can’t what” His hand snaked down to line his cock up, rubbing the head onto your clit.
“I-you know I can’t” You shook your head, panting as he pressed against it further, making you moan.
“You don’t want it?” He nudged his tip against your clenching pussy, prodding against your entrance leaving you reeling. “Tell me”
“Bucky, please, I-”
“Please what princess”
“We can’t, we can’t we can’t we-oh god, fuck, FUCKK” You threw your head back as he pushed his cock into your soaked pussy, not wasting any time, his hips snapping, pounding you into the mattress. Your legs wrapped around his waist, crying and chanting his name as his cock hit all the right spots, stretching you the way you craved.
Bucky moaned into your neck, your pussy gripping onto him, puling him back in with each thrust, fluttering and clenching around him.
“M’never letting you go again” Bucky grabbed your writs, pinning them against the bed above your head, pulling his knees up to fuck you deeper. “I need you”
“Fuckkkk James” Tears streaked your face, the silky tip of his cock rubbing and stroking your sweet spot repeatedly, his balls slapping against your ass.
“O-only I can make you moan like this” He picked his pace up, fucking you harder, sitting back on his heels and holding your legs apart. “Don’t think i didn’t hear you sweets, touching yourself thinking about me even when you were with him”
He spat onto your clit, his thumb rubbing soft circles making your back arch in pleasure.
“I touched myself to you too baby, thought about you every damn day with my cock in my fist. I missed you so bad, I wanted to fuck and make love to you, wanted every piece of you”
“Please-James”
Bucky got lost in the feeling of you, desperate to be as close as possible. He dropped your legs, falling on top of you and wrapping his arms around your body. He rolled you over so you were on top, holding you close while he thrusted up into you.
“I’ll never let you go again y/n, you’re mine, you’re all fucking mine baby”
“Don’t let me go James” You moaned into his neck, clinging onto his body while his cock throbbed, his pace growing sloppy.
“No, look at me” His eyes were glassy, one hand cupping your face to make you look at him. “I love you, I fucking love you, please princess” He fucked you harder, his moans mixed with yours filling the room, your lips brushing against his. “Fuck- I love you”
“I love you” You cried out, your pussy fluttering, the band in your belly about to snap.
“Cum for me baby, c’mon, cum on my dick, make a mess on me, soak my cock and balls with your cum angel, give it to me”
“JAMES FUCK” Your orgasm ripped through your body, falling limp on him while he pounded up into you, your moans and screams bouncing off the walls. Bucky held you tighter, his cock twitching unable to hold back any more, his balls pulled tight to his body.
“M’gonna cum” He moaned, desperately holding onto  you while you kissed him, swallowing his moans. “Oh fuck, m’gonna cum y/n”
“Cum James, fill me up bubba” You cooed softly in his ear, kissing his temple while he let out a throatily groan, his body tensing, cock swelling.
“FUCKK M’cumming so. fucking. hard for you baby, it’s all for you God-fuck-it’s all for you” His body stilled, his warm seed filling you till it dripped out. “Wanna be the only one to cum in you like this, you’re mine” He continued to rut into you, whining at the overstimulation, his cock still dribbling with cum “Can’t even stop cumming for you baby, fuck it won’t stop” He continued to moan and lightly thrust into you until he emptied his cock, the sheets damp from his load.
You both laid in silence, giving each other soft kisses, his arms still secure around you, holding you close to his chest. You couldn't ignore the way your heart fluttered, you shouldn’t have been there, none of this should have happened and yet...
“Stay”
You looked up at him while he brought you closer, kissing your forehead.
“Please stay”
“Bucky, you didn’t want me until-
“I was a fucking idiot, I love you, baby please stay” His eyes were pleading with you, clinging onto you tighter. You knew you should have gone back to your room but for some reason this felt right. You melted into his embrace, letting him cuddle you. “You’re mine”
“Bucky, my boy-
“I want to be your boyfriend. Please. I’m sorry sweets, I shouldn’t have pushed you away, I-I want you to be mine”
You thought for a moment, the way you couldn't pull yourself away from him, falling right into his embrace, not feeling anything for anyone else, all your feelings just for him.
“I’m yours” You mumbled against his skin, falling asleep in his bed, your heart finally back where it belonged.
(and ofc you break up with your loser boyfriend after, cause he was useless anyway)

Edit: Erased mention of the show from this post even if it was originally criticism because in hindsight, I want to avoid mentioning it at all due to the boycott.
What makes the Broken Trio (Annabeth, Thalia, and Luke) so impactful is that their bond is in stark contrast to the individual relationships the three share with their real families. Annabeth went thoroughly neglected by her father and absentee mother. The same for Luke, saddled with a mother who was tragically unavailable whether she wanted to be or not, and a father who never stepped in. And for Thalia, she never knew where she stood with her mother. Did Beryl love her daughter for her, or did she love her because she was proof of Zeus' favor. Did she truly care about Thalia--because from a little girl's perspective, she surely couldn't have cared about Jason all that much, trading his life to Hera in order to save her own--or did she just see her as a bargaining chip for immortality? And is that what love is? Later on, the same sentiment would apply to Zeus as well. Did he save her because he cared for her or because he thought she could be brought back to control the prophecy in his name?
All three of these kids were given nothing but conditional love. They all suffered under the weight of their desires to prove themselves to their parents whether out of spite (Luke, and Thalia to an extent) or love (Annabeth), because that was the only way they'd get the gods' attention, let alone their affection.
That's why it's so so important that when they came across each other and decided to form their own family, they chose to break this pattern. Luke stuck with Thalia knowing she was a magnet for danger with a huge target on her back. Thalia ignored Hal and Zoë's warnings, trusting Luke solely off who he had shown himself to be. And both of them looked at Annabeth, knowing she would slow them down--she was seven, how could she not--and decided to bring her along anyway because she deserved better and if her family wouldn't step up, they would.
These weren't rational decisions because family isn't meant to be rational and they're not Athena. They don't want to be. And we see this emotionality reflected in their choices throughout. Ever logical, strategic Annabeth believes in Luke even when she shouldn't because a long time back, he chose her when he didn't need to. There's a million different interpretations of Luke because, let's face it, his character was messy and inconsistent in canon, but what ultimately sets him apart from the gods or titans is a genuine care for his family, even if he stomps all over it at times. For Thalia, even after Luke poisoned her tree, she maintained faith in him right until the last moment on the mountain. Her breaking point was when he hurt Annabeth, leading her to purge all the good parts of Luke from her memory, forcing herself to only think about the betrayal so she could do what she believed was necessary to protect Annabeth. Not that I don't think she made the right call, but I do think this was far more of an emotional reaction than a purely practical one, which is further emphasized by how Percy (the neutral party, the outsider to this family) had to look at Luke empathetically and from both sides to make his final choice (@ruegarding has a fantastic meta on this that you should definitely check out).
Anyway, the point is: unlike the gods, these three did not perpetuate conditional love towards each other. It's essential that they saw each other, hurt and lonely, and chose to care, which is why it hurts so much when that found family breaks, and why it's the central piece that resolves everything in the end.

maybe we're a forest fire
Featuring— alhaitham x reader ⤀ warnings: gn!reader, hurt/comfort fic, reader has a pyro vision, slightly suggestive at the end if you squint ⤀ summary: he comforts you when you overthink on certain aspects of your relationship | w.c. 1k+ ⤀ a/n: alhaitham strikes me as someone who's intelligent but doesn't overthink, so as an overthinker, this is so..so..so self indulgent
Tumblr media
“You’re overthinking things again,” al-haitham states matter of factly. He continues to read despite the soft thudding of your footsteps as you pace the room.
“I’m not.” You argue, stopping in your tracks. “It makes sense. I just think… what if we…” your words trail off as you hesitate, biting your lip, wondering if you should continue your train of thought.
“...what if we… end things now. Before things get worse…” you falter, wringing your hands, your voice as small as you feel under the watchful eyes of the heavens. Al-haitham’s shoulders visibly stiffen, pausing for just a moment to look up from his book, before slamming it shut in his hand.
“And where’s all this coming from?” he inquires, a quizzical brow arched in skepticism. Your boyfriend leans back in his seat, arms crossed, waiting for an explanation; you weren’t one to make rash decisions like this.
“Where’s this coming from… al-haitham were you even listening to me?” you throw your hands up in frustration and continue pacing the room. The two of you had taken a stroll this afternoon through sumeru city and you had thought it a good idea to have your fortunes read; your colleague at the akademiya, setaria, had sworn by nabiya and the accuracy of her readings, claiming that this relationship you had with the scribe should undergo the young fortune teller’s divination before proceeding foward: “Lest you waste your time on a doomed love prospect,” your friend had warned. Besides, it wasn’t that you necessarily believed in divination, but it didn’t hurt to have a little bit of fun… right? How wrong you were.
As you once again begin to pace to and fro, you miss the way al-haitham rolls his eyes from across you. “Don’t tell me this is all because of what that fortune teller said. You know they’re almost never accurate right? And you’re telling me you want to end things because… her cats recommended it?” Nabiya had read that your relationship would burn up, like a dying star, that it’d be better to save the trouble before everything went up in flames.
“No,” you continue, ignoring him, “she said the gods spoke through her. But anyways, I’ve been thinking ever since and I mean… just looking at our visions should be proof enough that maybe we shouldn’t be together at all.”
“And pray tell, what do our visions have to do with our relationship? If anything, I’d say it’s a good omen that our elements react so well together.” Ever the rational insight. Usually, al-haitham quite enjoyed listening to your theories, but this was getting absurd, making him wonder if perhaps, there was more troubling you beneath the surface than you let on. Because even he couldn’t predict the tangent you were about to go on when your pyro and his dendro vision worked wonders together, especially when encountering enemies during your investigations in the forest and beyond.
“Yes, they do react well don’t they,” you chuckle, cynical. “Burning. In our forest nation.”
“Well actually only half forest,” he interjects, as a poor attempt at lightening the mood. In his quiet observation, al-haitham hears the slight shift in your tone, hears you struggling to choke back your true feelings in your tirade. And yet the more you processed your own reasoning, the more it made sense. Your lover is rational if nothing else, so he’s sure to see your point. The nails of your clenched fists dig into the flesh of your palms, your heart starts beating faster, the voices of a hundred different thoughts swirling in your head. Here in the knowledge driven nation of sumeru, it was a rare occasion that the head would agree with the heart, so when it came down to it, most chose to follow their head. You were no exception.
“Al-haitham I’m being serious.” As if your large, pleading eyes weren’t already enough to break his cool persona, your next words do. You turn around, unable to face him as you begin to speak.
“Pyro is destructive. When it spreads, it burns everything in its path, and what if I burn you. Maybe not literally but I’m sure you know the sages aren’t exactly happy their scribe is getting distracted lately. And the grand sage is rtawahist— he’s bound to connect the dots and say the same… I don’t want to be a liability to you al-haitham, or cost you-”
Ah. There it was. Dating the infamous grand scribe had thrown both you and your relationship into the public eye, and the scrutiny of the akademiya itself was no exception. You felt the air escape from your lungs before you could continue any further. Al-haitham had all but jumped out of his seat, tackling your person and enveloping you from behind, in a rare embrace.
“Hey. Hey, it’s okay. We’re going to be okay,” he murmurs, “having a pyro vision doesn’t make you the fire itself. And the sages have no say in my personal life, so even if you do ever burn me, well, forests need fire to renew and regrow.” He turns your body around to face him, fingers lifting up your chin so he could look into your eyes.
“I don’t care about any sort of destiny the gods or stars want to show me. I-”
“-plan to discredit the entire rtawahist darshan?” Al-haitham ignores your interruption and continues,
“And? I’d go against celestia as well if they think the element of our visions is enough of a reason to seperate us. You know I’m no zealot.” When the only response he gets from you is the fact that you shift your eyes away from his, he opts to pull you into himself, a hand on your back, the other behind your head. At this proximity, you’re able to pick up the steady sounds of his heartbeat. It was calming; it settled the rapid pace of your own heart to match his. Slowly, you bring your arms to wrap around his waist and press a soft smile into his chiseled chest.
“I fight for what I believe in, and I believe in us. It’s going to take more than just some fortune teller to change my mind, so let’s not discuss this anymore… unless you’d like other ways to keep your thoughts at bay?”
“You know… despite the robot allegations, you’re actually quite romantic,” you tease, looking up.
“And you’re strangely impulsive for an overthinker.”
“...shut up.”

Tumblr media
oscar looked at his watch in the silence of the train, 10:47 pm, it said. he wasn’t sure how long he had been sitting there, but he knew it wasn’t where he belonged. it wasn’t the place he had planned to spend this day that should have been so important: he should be celebrating with the most special person in his life tonight. sighing and his eyes threatening to let out all the emotions he’s been holding back, he looks out the window, trying his best to ignore the sharp pangs he’s feeling in his chest as a new melancholy song starts playing in his headphones.
he didn’t know what he wanted at that moment, whether it was to be alone to understand everything that happened and finally let his heart finish breaking completely or surrounded by his closest friends to try to feel more alive and try to ignore this pain that only increased.
looking at the other passengers on the train, he sees some people looking at the window, a couple holding hands, another couple where the woman is lying with her head on her partner’s shoulder while he holds her hand, and some noisy teenagers on the other who apparently just left a party. each one with their life, their story, their thoughts and feelings… he would give anything to feel like them now.
he thought something was wrong when you showed up that night. his suspicions proved true when you dropped his hand in the middle of dancing to your favorite song, your song; that song the two of you would listen to when you were driving your car and sing at the top of your lungs, him laughing at you as he hummed the song and lightly tapped his fingers on your thigh, that song he played on your first date, that song that seems to have was written to tell your love, that song.
when you walked out the door, you left a heartbroken oscar behind; eyes fixed on the door you left through, shaking hands seeking some support before his legs gave out. in that moment you completely changed your lives, where everything was sunshine and soft smiles, gentle caresses being exchanged at sunset, became an acid rain that burns your hearts, a wound that will never be cured.
he was going to ask you to spend the rest of your life with him that night; he should be surrounded by all his friends and family, but instead he is completely alone, traveling to an unknown destination. oscar opens his wallet and looks at a photo of the two of you that you took on your first date; he runs his fingers lightly over the photo, as if he’s caressing your happy face, and he feels a pang of pain when he thinks about how happy you two were back then. suddenly, the train conductor’s voice echoes, signaling that they are approaching the next station, and oscar is brought back to reality with a heavy sigh.
he feels so stupid thinking about how differently he planned that night. his entire family saw his face fall when you let go of his hand and your smile disappeared, giving way to a look of doubt and melancholy. but he didn’t care about that part now. his heart hurts too much to worry about the humiliation of it all.
he didn’t want to believe everyone when they warned him about you; he loved you too much to let other people’s opinions get in the way of his happy relationship with you, well he thought he had been happy anyway. maybe he should have listened, maybe it would have spared him so much pain and humiliation, he thinks as the train slows to a stop.
he was so nervous writing his speech that night that it had to be perfect. after all, you would remember that moment for the rest of your lives. turns out he was right, but the night will be remembered for very different reasons than he expected. the worst of it was that you couldn’t give him a single reason for your decision, and he couldn’t give you a word in response.
but you contacted oscar soon after that night, asking to see him again. coincidentally, the place you chose was the same coffee shop where you shared your first date. taking a deep breath, he steps through the door, looking around the crowded room for your familiar face. as soon as he sees you, his heart races and he feels like all the air has been stolen from his lungs. as he approaches you, you realize how much his appearance has changed in just a few weeks; his eyes are sunken and lifeless, and his sweet smile can’t be found on his beautiful face. you explain to him why you decided to end things and that you simply weren’t ready for that level of relationship, but you still love him and will always remember the incredible moments you had together. and that the person who marries him will be the luckiest in the world. so you leave him for the last time with a kiss on the cheek - which he still feels a slight tingle when he remembers it every night - and with a champagne problem.

soulmates au where you start seeing color if you lock your eyes with your soulmate, rockstar!eddiesoulmates au where you start seeing color if you lock your eyes with your soulmate, rockstar!eddie
I need Steve to love Corroded Coffin so much he goes to their concerts every time they are in Indianapolis. This time is different. This time he manages to push through the crowd until he's almost next to the stage. Maybe he shouldn’t have done that. Because if he stayed behind like all the previous times, there would be no chance for Eddie – the singer – to look him in the eye. The world would not start coloring itself. The singing would not stop mid-song. And Steve would not have to run away like a kid.
Eddie deserves someone better. Someone less damaged, someone less needy and clingy. Steve’s so wrapped up in his own head in the train on his way home. He’s obsessively refreshing the corroded coffin tag on twitter, but it looks like the concert continued after.
And then for two months, there's nothing. No news, no concerts, no paparazzi photos. And then suddenly a new mini album. It’s under Eddie’s name titled: to my soulmate.
Steve manages to not listen to it for the whole 20 minutes. It’s just 4 songs. And they are all beautiful, all heart breaking.
The first one starts with Eddie saying: “This is for you, sweetheart.”
One of them talks about Steve’s face and the color of his eyes and Steve’s sure that Eddie couldn't see it from the stage with all the lights around them. Does that mean that he went through footage from the concert trying to find a glimpse of him? Could he check the names on all the tickets he sold? Did he try to search for him online? Did he go through the endless follower list on his instagram account, hoping he’s gonna find Steve?
Another one talks about how Eddie understands if he’s not enough for his soulmate. And Steve’s whole chest hurts so bad as he sobs through it. Eddie is more than enough, Eddie’s perfect.
The last one is a love song. Love at first sight. It’s about everything Eddie accepted to feel if he ever found his soulmate, it’s about how wrong he was, because the words can’t describe the overwhelming love he felt the moment they looked at each other. When the song ends, Steve can hear Eddie breathing: “If you want to give me a chance, I’ll be waiting where we met. Friday, 7 o’clock.”
And then it’s quiet.
Steve’s determined not to go anywhere. He has 5 days until it’s Friday. And then it’s gonna be over. Then, Eddie can find someone else. Someone better.
On Friday, he finally confesses to Robin. If she could reach through her phone, Steve’s sure she’d pull him by his ears and kick him towards Indianapolis. He tells her all his worries, all his reasons to not go to the club. He tells her that Eddie would not want him anyway. Who would want someone like him?
“Don’t you think he should make that decision himself?“ She asks and she’s right.
The last train leaves in less than an hour and Steve barely makes it. Shaking like a leaf he sits next to a window and tries to calm himself down. He managed to take a shower before, fix his hair and put on a Corroded Coffin hoodie. He’s gonna be 20 minutes late. And he hopes, he prays that Eddie will wait a bit longer.
When the bouncer finally lets him in, Steve runs down to the stage. It’s way past 7.30. He’s not sure where Eddie could be. There’s no band playing tonight. The club is half empty so it’s not that hard to check every table.
Eddie’s not here anymore.
Tears sting his eyes. He squeezes his nose. And goes towards the bar to ask for rum and coke. He chugs half of the glass on his way towards an empty table. He writes Robin a quick message.
After he finishes his drink, he’s gonna find a place to spend the night, because there are no more trains going back to Hawkins.
Robin replies back almost instantly: “check his insta stories.”
But before Steve’s able to do that, there’s someone standing in front of him
“Hey.”
When he looks up, he’s lost for words. Because that’s definitely Eddie. Eddie, who looks so put together. A proper contrast to Steve’s red face from running and his puffy eyes from tears that haven’t fallen yet. It takes him a solid 5 seconds to say something back.
“Hi.”
Eddie gestures at him, smiling, like he can’t believe this is happening. Then he scratches his head and says: “I didn’t think this through.”
Steve starts laughing at the absurdity of it all and then he hears Eddie joining him.
“I’m Steve,” he finally introduces himself a minute later. He extends his hand.
“Steve, hi. I’m Eddie, but you probably already know that.” Eddie’s hand is warm and his handshake is firm. And he doesn’t let go afterwards.
“I’ve heard your songs... But you probably already know that too, since I’m here at all.”
“Did you – did you like them?” Eddie looks at him like it really matters. Like Steve’s opinion is important.
“I love them,” Steve exhales. “I’m sorry.”
Once he starts apologising he can’t stop.
“I’m so sorry Eddie. I didn’t. I thought you deserved so much better than me.”
“It’s okay. Hey, it’s okay.” Eddie says he grabs Steve’s chin and makes him look up. Eddie’s eyes are the prettiest shade of brown and Steve’s so grateful. “You’re here now.”
“I’m here,” Steve repeats. “I’m here and I’m not leaving.”
Less than a month later, there’s another mini album. Another 4 songs, but this time, they're all happy. And maybe the last one is Steve singing for Eddie.

Todo ! Todo ! Todo ! Todo !
Enemies to lovers? 🤭 Anyways.
You and todo’s mutual friends have been going crazy. Whenever y’all were in the same vicinity, y’all would argue like crazy. It didn’t make sense to y’all’s friends. Y’all were cool like a week ago..
After being forced into a room by your friends, the two of you made up very quickly and ya made sure everyone knew.
i love todoooo and i love youuu😩
you didn’t know why you and todo started acting this way towards each other. maybe you finally got sick of the way he’d talk about fucking different kinds of women or maybe he got sick of you lecturing him about it. maybe it was how highly he spoke of himself, always bragging about how he’s and best and how no man on earth could ever amount to him. or maybe it was the fact that you didn’t give him the attention he’s get so easily from other girls. whatever it was, it’s been causing the two of you to be at each others throats every time you’re around each other.
“you not doing it right suge just move and let me do it” todo groaned as he watched you roll up a blunt for you and your friends. you had recently gotten your nails done after almost a month without them, so rolling with them on was a little harder than it used to be. none of your friends had an issue with this, taking the time to just talk amongst each other while you worked, but of course todo did.
a sucked his teeth obnoxiously as he watched you try to ignore him and continue on rolling up. “aoi leave me the fuck alone my nigga. let me jus do what i need t’do.” todo just rolled his eyes, signing as he pulled out his phone. “hardheaded ass” he mumbled, making you jerk your head towards him. mai and kamo instantly giving you worried looks as you took the tray off your lap and got up. “roll it yourself m’finna dip. not finna sit her and argue wit your big ass” with that, you began your journey to maki’s room to get your jacket.
“why you gotta be such a dickhead to her t? y’all used t’be so close and now all y’all do is argue. it’s pissing everybody off” yuji said at he picked up the tray to finish what you started. todo just rolled his eyes. “stop rolling your fucking eyes and get your shit together. we can’t do nothing fun as a group without the two of you jumping down each others throats s’annoying and embarrassing” mai said. a wave of anger washed over todo’s body, making him get up and head for maki’s room to get his jacket as well. “ian dealin wit this. m’goin home”
as todo came into the room he noticed that you were still in there, jacket in your hand as you were seated on the bed. “the fuck you still doin here for? don’t got a ride?” he chuckled, instantly regretting it when he got a glimpse of your tear soaked cheeks. he could tell you weren’t sad, having known you for too long to not know the difference from when you were crying out or sadness or out of anger anger. right now it was anger. your fists were clenched tight on your thighs as you tried to calm yourself down. “just get your shit and go aoi”
now todo should’ve just listened to you. should’ve quietly grabbed his coat and left you to calm yourself down, but he always had to push it. “or what? you gon hurt me suge?” he chuckled as he looked at your much smaller body move towards his. your dark brown eyes staring up at his. glossy and wet with your tears as you contemplating punching this nigga dead in his face. before you could come up with a decision the sound of the door shutting snapped you out of your thoughts.
“make up or you’ll be here all night.” you heard kamo say as the sound of the door locking quietly rang in your ears. then you heard shuffling behind the door, probably the three on the outside putting something big in front of it to keep todo from breaking it down. “stop playin yuji i needa get home. just texted kiana t’get my dick sucked.” you scoffed at his words, wiping your face as you sat back down in the bed. you pulled out your phone, texting your roomate that you’ll be back later than you planned. “been telling this woman to get that fixed” you mumbled, talking about the fact that her doorknobs were put on the wrong way.
todo just stared at you from the door, giving you an annoyed look as he watched you nonchalantly scroll through your phone. “so you jus not gon talk t’me” you kept your voice flat as you replied, not giving him the curtesy of looking at him as you spoke. “they’ll open it eventually” he scoffed, crossing his big arms over his chest. “and if they don’t?” you sighed in defeat. why can’t this man just shut up? you set the phone face down on the bed, giving him a bored look as you spoke. “what you want me t’do aoi? if you wasn’t such a dickhead we wouldn’t be in here like this” your words irritated him, but the both of you knew they were true.
you and todo used to actually be the closest out of all of your friends. you were always together getting into shit and feeding into each others antics. that was until you found out he’d been chasing away every guy you’ve tried to get somewhere with. threatening to beat them up and all types of other stuff to keep you from being happy. you just thought he was jealous, not wanting his best friend to replace him with another man. you couldn’t have been more wrong. todo has been in love with you for years and he knew you felt the just as in love with him when you very drunkly confessed to him when you called him to pick you up from a party.
you told him about how you were in love with him, but hid it to keep your heart from being broken. you knew how promiscuous his lifestyle was and you figured he would never be able to settle down, so you bottled up your feelings and let him be. but todo didn’t want you to leave him be. he fucked all those women to take his mind off of how much he loved you. he knew he was wrong for scaring off all those guys, but he knew they were no good for you. the only one he wanted you with was him, but he just didn’t know how to tell you.
“i keep tellin you suge. these guys just want one thing from a nice girl like you and i refuse t’let em have it” who does this man think he is? this was your life and you’ll be damned if you let a man say what other people can and can’t have from you. you got up from your seat, walking towards todo before getting in his face. “so i can’t live my life, but you can fuck three different bitches within the same day?” todo gave you a stern look at your words, jaw tightening as he watched you continue on with your speech. “listen i know these niggas just be wantin to fuck, but it’s my decision to let them. if i wanna fuck a nigga and let him leave my house early the next day without calling again ima do tha-”
your words were cut off by todo’s lips on yours. his tongue instantly sliding into your mouth as he brought his hand around your throat. his other hand slid to your ass, making your stomach get butterflies as you melted into the kiss. todo looked deep into your eyes as he pulled away. “ion want you doin that to yourself ma. you a good girl, you not possed t’be doing that” a small whine left your lips at todos words. “but you do it” you said, earning you a tight squeeze on your ass while todos eyes began to harden. “don’t act like you don’t know why. you knew i been wanting you for the longest and you keep ignoring it cause you scared of me hurtin you.”
you shyly reverted your gaze at his words. eyes on the ground as listened to his true statements. todo put his hand under your chin, bringing your eyes back to him as he slid his hand from your ass to your waist to move you closer. “what i gotta do for y’to not be scared anymore? want me t’show you how much i want you?” all it took was a small nod from you and todo had you laid on the bed. skirt and panties discarded as todo nastily ate you out. his spit and your juices covered the bottom of us face as he held both of your crop top covered breasts in his hands. todo didn’t bother trying to keep you quiet, he let you handle that on your own as he focused solely on your pleasure.
“a-aoi m’gonna cum” you whined, voice in a hushed tone as you opened your mouth in a silent scream. todo smiled into your pussy, pushing his tongue past your tight walls repeatedly to get you to your much needed orgasm. “i know. do it on my face” his words caressed your ears, your release trickling out of you as todo cleaned you up completely. he didn’t leave a single drop to waste. as you came down from your high, todo stood up from his place on his knees. big broad figure in between your legs as he took off his compression shirt. “how you wanna take me mama?” he asked, smirking as he watched you turned over on your stomach. you arched your ass high in the air, gripping one the pillows to keep yourself from being heard before looking back at him. “good girl”
todo slowly freed his dick from his sweats, stroking his thick shaft with your juices that were on his hand. he was huge. your eyes widened at the sight of how he wasn’t only just thick, but long as well. todo noticed your worry and quickly reassured you. “i opened you up good mama. you don’t have t’worry” your unease began to fade away as you listened to his deep voice. as todo lined up your entrance you started facing forwards, putting the pillow close to your face just incase you get the urge to scream. you knew todo fucked good, always hearing about it from other women as you acted indifferent about it. a tinge of jealousy washing over you as you thought of the many other women he’s slept with. will you be his last? is this just a one time thing? what will the two of you be when this is all said and done. a thousand thoughts ran through your mind at once, making you slowly reach your hand back to grab his hand.
todo’s eyes were instantly on you. “was wrong. you uncomfortable?” you shook your head no, causing todo’s worried expression to fade as he waited for you to tell him what you needed. “are you….are you gonna keep messing with all those girls after this?” remorse started to fill todo’s heart as he lightly squeezed your hand. his brown eyes look deeply into yours as he spoke. “no, s’me and you now. no more girls” your eyes lit up in happiness as you listened to the words you longed to hear. you turned back around, pushing your ass out further for him to continue. todo chuckled at your eagerness as he began to sink himself into you. there was only a small sting as todo put his full length into you. your grip on the pillow tightening as you felt the pleasure of him moving inside your tight walls.
“am i good. can i fuck you ma?” you quickly nodded your head in the pillow, clenching around him tighter as your pussy grew excited at the stretch. with that todo started with a slow pace, trying his hardest to restrain himself from staring off too rough. “f-fuck aoi that feels so good baby” the pet name quickly went straight to his dick. pushing todo even more to want to pound you into the mattress.
his hips began to snap into a little rougher, his dick kissing the sweetest parts inside you as you fucked your self back onto him, trying to get him to give you more. “h-harder daddy” you whined. you could tell he was holding himself back, trying his best not to be rough, but that was what you wanted. you wanted him to ruin you for anyone else. your words quickly broke his resolve. todo took a deep breath before laying both of his hands flat on your back, leaning down on them to keep you from moving too much as he began to fuck you vigorously. “like this ma? you want me t’fuck you like this?”
you moaned out a “yes”, the pillow under you long forgotten as you let your screams and moans fly in the atmosphere of the room. “there you go. love your pretty voice” todo coo’d at you, loving the way your walls always tightened when he spoke to you. “y’like when i talk t’you mama? feel you squeezing me” todo slid his hand up your back, pulling you up by your hair as he angled his hips upward towards the spongy spot inside of you. “o-oh my god m’gonna cum” he let out a loud chuckle behind you, wrapping one hand around your throat while his other held your middle. todo slowed his thrusts, grinding his dick into you as you whined out from the feeling of your orgasm being pushed farther away. “can’t let you cum so soon baby. want you t’cum with me”
todo continued to slowly fuck you, giving you sloppy kisses. your lipgloss was completely erased from your lips. the strawberry flavoring being shared between your tongues as the two of you moaned in each others mouths. “m’there now. you wanna cum?” you quickly nodded your head before eagerly reconnecting your lips with his. todo began to pick back up his pace, his thick dick sliding in and out of your tight wet walls making squelching sounds fill the room. as he reached the speed he was at before, you felt your release begin to appear again. your legs shaking as you were having trouble kissing him back. “let it go ma. i can feel you holding it.”
you let out a loud moan as your essence dripped from you. white cream coating his dick as todo fucked you through your orgasm. “mhmm. there you go. let me have it” as you came down from your high, a wave of fatigue rushed over you, causing you your body to weaken as you slumped back onto the bed. todo let out a little chuckle at this, letting your sleep as he got you dressed and picked you up. even in your sleep like state, you knew to wrap your arms and legs around him before falling back asleep.
todo rubbed your back with one hand, soothing you as he knocked on the door with his other. it was opened almost instantly by mai, a shocked expression on her face as she looked at her friend in his arms. “i swear to god todo if you hurt her i’ll kill you.” he rolled his eyes, ignoring her as he made it way to the door. yuji and kamo shared the same look mai had. eyes wide as they watched todo check on you, big hand still rubbing your back as he tried to be as delicate as possible. “y’know maki’s gon kill you for fucking in her bed right?” yugi said, making todo scoff as he turned towards his three friends. “she not gon know cause y’all was the ones that locked us in there, using her room as a coatrack/prison while y’all sat out here and smoked all her weed.” the three of them looked at each other, communicating with there’s eyes that they won’t tell. todo laughed, finally making it to his destination at the door without anymore interruptions.
“ian complaining tho….finally got my girl”

The Impossible Choice (6)
[ Aemond • Targaryen x Baratheon! • female ]
[ warnings: kissing, angst, violence, domination, sexual tension ]

______
She walked into her chamber trembling all over and burst into loud sobs as soon as she closed the door behind her. She felt that what had happened between them was more than her mind could handle, and on top of that she was horrified that they had been caught in such a humiliating position.
She didn't fully understand what was happening to her body durning their wedding night.
No one had prepared her for how she would react.
She wondered if the queen had not mentioned that hot, pleasant, tickling feeling to her because it was something bad and unholy, or because she had never experienced it herself.
She was afraid that the whole court would find out about what her husband was doing with her body, that he treated her in bed like a common whore.
She was terrified that she felt pleasure during this act and was completely torn apart inside, relieved at the same time that he hadn't hurt her the way that she had imagined, but on the other hand she was still afraid of him, just for different reasons.
She calmed down after a few minutes, rinsed her face in the basin standing on the wooden table and weakly called Lyanna, asking her to prepare her a bath.
As soon as she stepped into the tub with hot water, she felt an instant, miraculous relief; she no longer felt dirty from their shared moisture, from what had flowed out of him inside her. Lyanna added her favorite oils to her bath, their scent and the soft chirping of birds outside the window calming her down, making her think straight again.
She swallowed hard, leaning the back of her head against the edge of the tub, closing her eyes, deciding to analyze the situation.
She was sure that he desired her, he was also apparently able to keep his word, because in fact, even though she still felt discomfort between her thighs, she understood perfectly well that her husband was holding back.
She knew now that what the queen and her sister were speaking about was only at the end of the act, after he touched her with his hand. It awakened something inside her and her body produced moisture, so that he could enter her more easily.
She could imagine how painful it must be to rub dry skin so intensely against each other and she shuddered at the thought.
She knew that he didn't have to do this.
He could take her by force, regardless of her discomfort, moans and cries, because they both knew that she would have had to comply anyway.
Everyone would tell her that she had to accept it, press her lips together and hold on.
After much thought, she decided that she preferred pleasure to pain, even at the cost of humiliation. She saw this as her chance to appease him slowly, to make him drop his shield and trust her enough not to show his aggressive side to her anymore.
She knew that he wanted her to submit to him.
Giving her the initiative would mean taking control of the situation away from him, and he would never let that happen. She had to make him believe that he was in control when, in fact, he was not.
One mistake could cost her everything, so her every move had to be delicate and thoughtful.
She thought with amusement that she felt as if she were planning a war.
She waged a wordless war with her husband for dominance, for what their marriage would be like, and she had to win as much as possible.
After her bath, when Lyanna dressed her in a clean, fragrant linen chemise and started to put on her brown and blue gown with cut-out sleeves, she felt much better.
She was herself again, Lady Baratheon, not someone's mere whore.
She thought, looking in the mirror, that she was no longer a girl, but a woman.
She only left her chamber for the shared supper intended for their families in a much better mood. She decided that she wouldn't care about the rumors about their wedding night − their marriage was sealed and her husband was obviously pleased with her, since he wanted her for a second time in the same night.
The truth was that it couldn't have gone better.
When she stepped into a great chamber with a fireplace in which there stood long wooden table, all eyes turned towards her. She immediately spotted her husband, standing in the distance with his older brother and swallowed softly at the sight of his face.
Even though his expression was stern and indifferent, there was something in his gaze that gave her hope.
Curiosity.
Her brother Royce, who was standing anxiously by the fireplace, he almost threw himself at her as soon as he saw her, grasping her shoulders in his hands, watching her closely as if looking for any sign on her face that she had come to harm. She smiled broadly at the sight of him, his presence an indescribable relief to her.
"Are you well, little sister?" He whispered, looking at her with worry, probably horrified by the vision of what she must have been experiencing in the arms of a complete stranger, moreover as cold and distant as her husband. She placed her hand over his, looking at him gratefully.
"Yes. Don't worry, brother." She said softly, and he exhaled loudly, as if a great stone had fallen from his heart.
He leaned over her and placed a long, drawn-out kiss on her forehead, as he often did when he wanted to comfort her.
She threw him a fond smile as he let go of her and stroked his arm, stepping around him.
She met her husband's gaze and froze in half-step, seeing how tightly his lips were pressed together, his gaze dark and impenetrable. She thought that he was furious for some reason, but she didn't know why.
He looked away, answering something to his brother impatiently and after a while the king entered the hall, accompanied by his wife and her father. The king could barely move, but despite this, he greeted everyone with a warm smile, inviting them to sit at the table.
She, as the prince's wife, sat by his side with his family. She saw, glancing at him from the corner of her eye, that he was looking in the direction of her brother, who was conversing about something with her father, his hand stretched out on the table clenched into a fist.
She wondered if the incestuous habits of the Targaryens, such as his brother Aegon's marriage to his sister Helaena, had made him see more of her relationship with Royce than she would have liked.
She swallowed silently at the thought, looking down at her hands placed in her lap. Several toasts were made to the health of the bride and groom, and then everyone began to help themselves with food.
The thought that perhaps she had frustrated him again made her throat and stomach clench.
She realized that the last time she ate any meal was the morning before, however, the mere thought of swallowing something made her sick to her stomach. She flinched as she heard her husband's low grunt.
"Eat." He commanded low, putting one of the platters back in its place.
Resigned, she looked around for something light and decided to eat the soup that was standing nearby. It wasn't until she ate that she had a chance to look around the table.
She saw several boys with black hair who must have been her husband's family and the sons of his half-sister, the heir to the throne.
She was sitting nearby, across from them, contentedly chatting about something with her husband-uncle, they were accompanied by two white-haired girls who gave her calm, comforting smiles, which she returned.
Then her attention turned to her own sisters. They didn't look at her, Cassandra seemed to her pale and frustrated, the rest of them only pretended to be pleased.
She thought painfully that they still hadn't forgiven her and put her spoon down halfway through her meal, losing her appetite.
She saw that her husband froze mid-movement and swallowed loudly, feeling him look at her. She pursed her lips at the thought, a drop of cold sweat ran down her back as she tentatively looked up at him and met his frustrated, dark gaze which did not tolerate any objection.
He wanted her to keep eating.
"I don't feel well." She mumbled, feeling that if she took another spoonful of this soup down her throat she would just vomit.
He turned his head at her words, grabbing his goblet in his hand, taking a sip of wine from it, setting it down on the wooden table with a loud clink of metal.
She sighed softly in relief, seeing that he had obviously left her alone.
She hopped on her seat as his brother, sitting next to her, leaned over her, obviously wanting to whisper something to her, she could clearly smell the intense, unpleasant odour of alcohol from him.
“I could hear you all the way in my chamber. I want you to know that the door to mine will be always open for you." He hummed, taking a loud sip of wine from his cup as if he had said something light and amuzing at the same time.
She stared at him in disbelief, her mouth slightly parted in complete shock. She turned her head to look at her husband and shivered at the murderous gaze in his good eye that was directed at his brother, she felt that she was in the middle of some big storm that she didn't like at all.
She breathed a sigh of relief when the king ordered music to be played, several people stood up to dance with each other. She reached for her cup and took a few sips of wine, feeling that what was happening around her was too much for her sober mind.
She knew that her family was returning to Storm's End the next morning and decided that she wanted to spend as much time with her brother as possible, since she was not going to see him for a very long time. They met alone in her chamber, sitting on her chaise longue.
Royce had asked her about her husband and she had tried to give as truthful answers as possible, without giving him certain details that she knew would infuriate him.
"He's introverted and strict, but I believe we'll be able to communicate. He was understanding with me on our wedding night and didn't hurt me." She said softly, looking at her fingers and Royce nodded at her words, still tense.
“He seems pretty brutal to me, I don't want him to treat you badly." He said lowly, taking her hand in his, looking at her expectantly. "If he ever hurts you, I'll rip his heart out."
They both turned towards the door when they heard someone come in, her husband stared at them stony-faced but she could see in his eye surprise and frustration that she wasn't alone. She stood up quickly, bowing to him, followed by her brother, albeit reluctantly.
"Leave me alone with my wife, my Lord." He spoke low, not even gracing him with a single glance, his gaze fixed on her, piercing and expectant. She shivered hearing those words.
My wife.
Royce tensed inside himself, not used to being spoken to like that, seeing this she looked at him and nodded for him to go. Royce sighed and left, throwing her husband a defiant look, closing the door behind him.
They were left alone.
They stared at each other for a moment in an awkward silence.
She wasn't sure if she should say anything before he did.
She flinched when he suddenly spoke up.
"Are you feeling well already?" He hummed coldly, she felt that there was a second bottom in his question.
For a moment she did not understand what he meant, but then she realized that he was referring to her words during the supper.
"Yes, thank you, my prince." She said softly, not taking her eyes off of him.
Silence fell between them again. She felt that he had come for something completely different and prayed that he wouldn't want to possess her again.
She was barely able to sit up because of their two intense intercourses.
"You and your brother are touchingly close to each other." He said slowly, a dangerous, dark gleam in his gaze that made her swallow hard.
A statement, not a question.
She knew she had to think carefully about what will leave her mouth.
She could not laugh at or disregard his concerns, feel that he would feel humiliated or ridiculed. Whatever she thought of him, if she wanted to gain his favour and sympathy, she could not offend his pride.
"Yes. Yes, we are." She said softly, trying to sound as innocent as she actually felt, deciding that she didn't need to explain herself further, as she had nothing to hide from him.
Her husband looked at her with his hands folded behind his back, as if wondering what to do with her answer. He lowered his gaze, involuntarily running his tongue over his full lower lip, as if he was collecting his thoughts in his head.
"I do not want any men to visit you in your chamber, except me and your father." He said warningly, lowly, looking her straight in the eye as if he wanted to make sure she understood what he meant.
It wasn't a suggestion.
"If that's my husband's request, I'll respect it." She said calmly, twisting his words so as not to give him a psychological advantage.
She saw his eye narrow, the corner of his mouth curling into a small, dangerous smirk. He knew exactly what she was doing, but chose not to react.
Her answer was enough for him.
He moved towards her and she trembled all over, with the remnants of her will holding back the desire to retreat, to escape.
She could be submissive to him, but never weak.
She shivered as he suddenly took her cheeks in his big hands, rough from holding a sword, his thumbs pressing and brushing over her soft skin.
She thought, shocked, that he was imitating her brother's gestures as he greeted her in front of him.
That gentle, tender gesture that didn't suit him at all.
It moved her.
As then, she lifted her hands and placed it over his; she saw him swallow hard as she buried her face in his fingers, closing her eyes.
She dared to kiss the center of his palm, pressing her moist, puffy lips to his skin, felt him gasp at the gesture, surprised, her lips parted as her eyelids opened again to look at him.
He leaned over her, pressing his nose against her warm, soft cheek, taking her completely by surprise, his eye was closed as if in pain,he breathed heavily as if he himself did not know why he had actually come to her, what he was looking for in her, why he desired whatever he saw then.
She wondered if anyone had ever shown him that kind of care and tender, gentle touch.
She swallowed loudly and lifted her hand to touch his cheek. He looked at her then fear, his lips parted in indecision whether he wanted it or not, his brow arched in pain as her fingertips gently ran over his bare skin. She could see that he was fighting with himself, with his male inner, humiliating feeling that he was showing her weakness.
She decided that she couldn't let him think about it.
"Kiss me." She whispered, surprised by her own words, her gaze clouded by some strange, warm feeling, her swollen lips parted invitingly.
He leaned over her uncertainly, she could feel him struggling with himself as his lower lip barely brushed against hers, drawing a soft, contented sigh from her.
She returned the tender caress, her soft lips finding his, teasing him encouragingly without kissing him fully, he made a sound as if he was in pain, low, quivering that made her heart clench. She took his face in her hands and kissed him timidly, not quite knowing what it should look like, simply pressing her lips to his.
He returned her gesture after a moment with a loud, wet click, his kiss slow and drawn out, completely different from the one she had experienced with him before their wedding night, this time he took his time, allowing her and himself to enjoy this new, surprisingly pleasurable sensation.
He dug into her lips more and more greedily, caressing their fleshy, sticky texture, brushing and sucking them, they both began to pant loudly, she felt the familiar wetness leaking down her thighs again.
"Only I have the right to touch you." He exhaled with anger, irritation, regret that she had allowed herself to be intimate with another man in front of him, that she dared to derive pleasure and comfort from the touch of someone other than himself.
Their kisses were chaotic, loud, moist, sticky, she shuddered every time the tip of his tongue ran over her upper lip, she tentatively licked his tongue with hers, making him gasp aloud, combing his hand through her soft hair.
"Does he kiss you like that too?" He breathed out into her mouth and she felt that for some reason she was aroused by this question, by how incredibly possessive he was.
Surprised by her own inventiveness, she licked his palate with the tip of her tongue, making him draw in a loud breath.
"No." She whispered and that was enough for him.
He started to kiss her like mad, his tongue deep in her throat, his hand holding her neck, not letting her move away. They panted into each other's mouths, clouded by the insane pleasure this simple, obvious closeness gave them.
She thought, surprised, that she wanted this.
That she would let him take her again now despite the pain, if he only wanted to.
She felt them both lose their temper, heir lips, their tongues, their teeth danced with each other in this sticky, hot, loud act of desperation. Her hand slid into his hair, drawing a throaty, low groan from him that made her nipples harden.
He broke away from her abruptly, taking a few steps away, panting heavily.
She felt that he was closing into himself again, distancing himself from her after that sudden, wonderful closeness, and there was nothing she could do about it.
He recognized that he had shown her his vulnerability, his jealousy, which she could use against him.
"If you let him touch you like this again and I find out about it, I'll kill him." He said matter-of-factly, coolly, without emotion, his lips all puffy and red from their caresses. She shook her head in disbelief.
He could not have meant it.
Could he?
She wanted to protest, to say anything, but before she could utter any words, he left her chamber with a loud slam of the door.

Sometimes, her love story with Max felt like that of Romeo and Juliette. That's what she likes to tell herself as their dads once again go to war with their respective children.
How either of them had made it this far in life, she had no clue.
This particular night was Max's turn to receive a phone call. The two lovers had been laying in bed during the winter break, keeping eachother warm, when the phone started buzzing.
Max had taken one look at the caller ID and debated whether to just let it ring through or answer. The latter being the better decision or else he would get that added to the procrastinated verbal slaps his father likes to give freely.
The Dutch picked up the phone and pulled the woman close to him in the same motion.
"Hello." His voice is rough, his annoyance becoming apperant in this moment.
Jos' voice through the phone was so loud she didn't even have to try and listen. It was as if he was in the room with them.
She ran her fingers through his hair as he did his best to keep his composure.
"Have you been practicing with the sim?"
"Yes."
"Good, wouldn't want you getting worse or being distracted by the female in your house over the break," he laughed.
Max's free hand entwined with hers. The woman proceding to squeeze his three times. A silent I love you for time like this.
"Maybe you can finally put her to use if you were smart."
A blow to both of them. She had winced only a little, but it didn't go unnoticed. Max brought her knuckles to his mouth and silently let his lips graze them.
"Next race I expect to see you make less mistakes and if there is more then you only have yourself and the women to blame."
"Goodnight dad."
Max quickly hung up the phone and tossed it aside.
She, however, took a different approach and jumped out of the bed. Her now cold body running to the kitchen. Max close behind her.
"I've decided we need hot chocolate." She stated before he could even get the question out.
The two spend the rest of the night cuddling with hot chocolate and watching kids' movies.
The words of Jos are not easily forgotten, but maybe Max could find a way to heal regardless.
The next time something like this happened, it was her turn.
Unfortunately for her, they were at a race. Her parents wanted to come because it's a race in her home country. Spending the day with their daughter, who lives far away now, sounds great in theory.
It had started tame. The three of you sitting in the Redbull hospitality catching up until she went to go find some of your friends and wish them luck.
Thankfully, Lando was walking by and spotted her.
"Hey (Y/N)!" He shouted. Successfully grabbing her attention. The woman waved and made it three steps forward before her dad had placed his hand on her shoulder.
Startled, she spun around and put some distance between them.
"We need to talk." The older man crossed his arms.
Immediately, her body felt like she was a child again. Her shoulders sagged but looked him in the eyes anyway. Knowing if she didn't, he would become more upset.
"I know me and your mom aren't the most rich people, but at least we gave you a better childhood thank ours." He sighed and let out a small laugh. Something he did to make her believe she wasn't in trouble. "You could be a little more grateful to us before running off with some guy who has more than us."
"I'm sorry," was all she could muster.
Thankfully, lando had come over to say hello after she had finished her conversation. He waited, not wanting to interrupt. Until he heard the apology, then he decided to gently step in.
"(Y/N)! Glad I caught you! Max wanted to see you before qualifying." The Brit felt proud of himself for how smooth that sounded.
"Oh do you know where he is?"
"Yeah, follow me." He gestured with his head the direction they were going to head.
"I'll talk to you later, dad." She smiled sadly. Then, she turned to follow Lando.
The two walked in silence to the Redbull garage. Lando not wanting to push the woman and her attempting to swallow her tears before having to talk to Max. Stressing him out before he needed to race was not on her agenda today.
When Max spotted her coming into the garage, he jogged over, greeting his love and his friend with a bright smile.
"What are you doing down here? I thought you were up in hospitality?" He asked.
Max's eyes dart between the two. Taking in the sheepish smile of one and a mixture of sadness and confusion on the other.
Lando turns to look at the woman beside him. "Sorry about lying to you, but I heard what your dad was saying to you..." He trails.
Max's face drops. Suddenly understanding why she had come with a sullen expression.
"It's okay Lan, thank you for rescuing me."
"Anytime." He nods before making his way out of the garage.
Max places his hands on her shoulders. "Do you want to talk about it now, or do you want a hug?"
She doesn't respond. Instead, she embraces him, inhaling his scent and listening to the sound of his heart.
"Race first, talk later." She gives him a quick kiss on the cheek for goodluck.
Max understanding her needs and how she is feeling, helped put the words of her dad into the back of her brain.
The following incident happened in the two's shared home. Jos had cone knocking at the door while Max was away grabbing some essentials for dinner that night. She regretted not going with him now. Opting to get things ready and started while Max was away.
"Oh, it's you." Jos sneered. Practically shoving her out of the way to get inside the apartment. "Where is my son?"
"He's at the store grabbing things for dinner, but I think he'll be back shortly." The young woman closes the door but hardly moves, barely a breath entering her lungs.
Dealing with Jos on her own was always a difficult task. Often fighting with herself between being on the defensive and provoking him more, or just staying quiet. Normally, she opted for the latter.
"You should really consider leaving him now. It'll hurt him less, and he'll be able to focus on what's important again." His eyes burn on her. "Have you still not understood that you are hindering him?! He has been making more mistakes since you seduced him."
She lost her grip for a moment, her mouth letting the words slip before her frontal lobe could fully process.
"Have you ever considered that encouraging and being proud of him might help him more than the constant berating?"
Jos' face went red, his jaw clenching in anger. He looked like he might break something.
Originally, she hadn't realized how close he had been. Now, knowing she should have put more than an arms reach.
The sting on her cheek was not a sensation she was used to. Her father had never actually hit her. thrown stuff around, and broke things from occasionally, but never hit her.
Tears began pricking her eyes. How was she to respond now?
"Don't speak to me like that. It's ridiculous that he keeps you around."
Well, she already crossed the line. There's no going back now. "Maybe because I am actually kind to him." Standing her grand, she managed to look directly at him. The shock of her action clearly displayed on his figure. "Your son is one of the kindest and funniest people I have ever met. He is successful not because because of you but because of himself and what he has achieved through his own hard work."
She had been so lost in her speech that she had failed to hear the keys in the door.
"I'm glad you think so geliefde." His voice was soft towards her. Relief washed over her face as she turned to see him. "What are you doing here, dad?"
"I came to look over some things with you about your next race."
Max's eyes narrowed at him. He quickly places the bag with groceries in it on the floor and strides over where the young woman is still trying to figure out what to do next.
Max places his hands on either side of her face and examines it. "Well, now you don't get to ever come back."
"Max-"
"She is right. I am loved by her unconditionally, and I don't need you to constantly criticize me. And you especially do not get to lay hands on anyone I care about."
Max's eyes turned cold. Now staring past her while still holding her protectively. "Get out."
"Son I think we should at least talk about this!"
"Get out! Or I will call the authorities."
Jos raised his hands in defeat and wnt to exit the space. Before he closed the door, he left you both with a parting message. "I hope she is worth it, Max, and if you realize she's not, then don't come crawling back to me."
When the door clicked closed, she couldn't stop the tears from flowing. "I'm so sorry I shouldn't have said anything to him." She sobbed.
Max embraced her gently and leaned to whisper, "You did nothing wrong, I don't need him to be proud of me. Instead, I think your encouragement will be enough to fuel me for races."
Then, they both started to heal.

Pairing: James Potter x Y/N
Word Count: 8.0k+
Tumblr media
“Mom, come on!” You begrudgingly continued packing your trunk, throwing your clothes in haphazardly. Something you knew would drive her crazy, “I don’t get it. You and dad can move to England for his fancy ministry job, and I can stay here and go to Ilvermorny with all my friends. It totally works mom.” You pleaded with her. You were heading into your sixth year at Ilvermorny and really didn’t want to start over. Much less with the stuck-up students at Hogwarts. You’d heard countless stories of exchange students and their attitudes it put you off the school entirely.
“What do you not understand?” She snapped. Truth be told you did understand why she was exhausted from your incessant questioning of their decision. It was a huge promotion for you dad, one he’d been trying to get for the last five years. It was a no brainer for your family.
You decided to push it anyway, test your mom’s true limits, “I mean, you don’t see me during the school year anyway. What’s the difference?”
“We wouldn’t be able to get to you quickly in an emergency. Apparition is only so fast Y/N.” She gave you a pleading look from the doorway. She looked exhausted. Utterly exhausted. You knew it was best to back off.
You sighed heavily knowing you weren’t going to win, “Fine. Whatever.”
“You’ll like Hogwarts honey.” She walked over patting you on the shoulder, “Your dad studied over there for a few years when his parents did the same.” She tried reassuring you. You simply nodded not feeling like putting up a fight anymore. It wasn’t like what you said mattered. The decision was made without you. You were moving to the UK and going to Hogwarts. That was that.
You’d sent off a hundred letters before heading across the ocean. You’d gotten semi-settled before you had to move into Hogwarts. It was like time was passing and you were stuck. Lost in a world you weren’t ready for just yet. You’d just wished you had more time to process everything as you walked into Hogwarts for the first time. Last week you were set on going back to Ilvermorny. This week you were starting an almost entirely new life.
Your father dropped you off with Professor McGonagall. You learned he’d been sorted into Gryffindor during his three years at Hogwarts. He’d told you all about his time with the house. You didn’t think you’d be a Gryffindor like your father was. The two of you weren’t exactly all that similar.
Your dad was far more outgoing than your quieter one. You’d prefer to sit back and observe in the shadows than take control. Rather learn through watching than doing.
“No offense dad, but I don’t think I’ll be a Gryffindor.” You interrupted him while he was chatting with McGonagall as if it was a sure thing, you’d be joining the Gryffindor house, “I’m a Horned Serpent and you were a Wampus at Ilvermorny. Those are two very different houses.” You said a little more bluntly than you really needed to. You were tired of hearing about Gryffindor. It was more so your stubbornness that was coming out now. You kind of wanted to hurt him. He took you away from your friends, your house, your home. He didn’t even come to talk to you about it before he ripped you away from life you’d already built. He thought just because he loved Hogwarts when he was there, you’d be just fine moving half a world away without even getting to say goodbye first.
A look of hurt briefly crossed his dace before it vanished, “Yeah, we might be a little different sweetheart. But you never know.” He patted your back as he took in the walls he’d known years ago. Nothing had changed. But why would it have? The school had been around for thousands of years and had hardly changed since its inception.
McGonagall nodded, “He’s right. You truly never do know. Let’s go get you sorted.” She smiled knowingly sensing the hesitation of the unknown in front of you.
You gave your dad a long hug before seeing him off, “Love you. See you in a few months.” You gave him a half-assed smile. You tried. You really did. But you weren’t excited. You had no want to be here. You should be getting ready to go to Ilvermorny. Not starting this new life. You knew you needed to get over it, but you were intimidated as hell. It wasn’t easy to make friends. And here you were already quiet as hell going to attempt to make a whole new batch. It was going to be an impossible task you weren’t really ready for.
You followed quietly behind McGonagall giving her short answers to the prodding questions. You didn’t want to be rude, but it was just feeling like too much for you. You didn’t want to start here on such a negative note, but you just couldn’t seem to get happy.
To your surprise she got you smiling by the time you made it to the sorting hat. To your even further surprise you were sorted into Gryffindor. You saw the small smile and nod from the Head of Gryffindor. Almost as if she already knew that was where you were heading. It still didn’t make much sense to you. You’d have thought you would’ve been put in Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff before Gryffindor. The sorting hat must’ve seen something you couldn’t recognize in yourself.
McGonagall got you set up and gave you a quick tour of the important spots to help you get around. She said a girl named Lily would be there early the next morning to help her with the arrival of all the students later on in the day. The girl named Lily would be the one who’d be showing you around. Apparently, she was on track to become Head Girl next year. You could only smile as McGonagall gushed over the girl. She sounded lovely but so completely different than you. A night and day difference. You were curious to see if McGonagall would have such nice things to say about you when you were to leave at the end of the school year.
You spent the night wandering the castles unafraid to get lost knowing you could just ask a picture on the wall for directions if need be. Your favorite room had to be where the enchanted staircases moved under their charm. Ilvermorny hadn’t anything like it, so you watched as they moved into and out of place constantly. You watched for so long you were started to get heckled by the pictures and paintings. To which you gave them the good old fashioned middle finger salute telling them to shut the hell up. You didn’t have it on your list to start arguing with a literal picture on the wall but here you were.
“Oh! Would you just put a can in it?” You rolled your eyes giving the man in the picture your most annoyed expression.
“I don’ know what that means.” He returned your stare with one equally as annoyed as your own, “Yankees.” He scoffed shaking his head as if he were disappointed.
“It means shut the hell up.” Glaring at him now you were in a defensive stance. You couldn’t believe you were letting an enchanted painting offend you so deeply. But you were too far into the argument to give up now. All the other eyes in the room were on the two of you going back and forth.
“Miss Y/L/N?” A male voice from behind you made your blood run cold. That was certainly the last thing you were expecting. Who in the hell was in the castle that knew your last name? Spinning around on your heal you observed an older wizard giving you a curious glance.
“That’s me.” You confirmed giving him a once over. Tall. Long white beard. Kind eyes. It had to have been Dumbledore. Your father was… obsessed with the man to say the least. He never shut up about the great wizard.
He nodded taking a step towards you, “Were you arguing with Sampson?” He peered behind you shaking his head at the man in the painting.
“Well, yes. I was. If that’s Sampson.” You didn’t elaborate any further pointing to the painting behind you.
He nodded cracking a small smile, “Might I ask why?”
You shrugged, “He was making fun of me for watching the stairs. They’re rad. We didn’t have anything like this at school.” You looked up admiring how they all effortlessly moved locking into place. Hogwarts was so much grander than Ilvermorny, something you didn’t really expect. Nobody ever seemed to talk about the nice the castle was when they came home.
The old wizard laughed, “Rad?” He questioned your vernacular.
You groaned realizing that these students probably didn’t talk like you were used to, “Please don’t tell me I have to learn a whole new language on top of having to meet an entirely new group of people tomorrow.” It stressed you out a little thinking about it. You were used to you American vernacular and slang, not whatever they said over here.
“On the contraire Y/N. You may just be ahead of times. I don’t know what the students are saying these days anyway.” He sounded like any other older person with that statement bringing out grin onto your face.
You questioned him for being so blasé about the whole thing, “How do you know my name?”
“That’s my job.” He smiled sweetly at you before continuing on the walk he happened to be on prior to stumbling on you arguing with the picture. You decided he wasn’t getting away that easy and followed being him quickly, “Which is?” You knew. But you wanted him to tell you. Just to confirm it.
He peaked behind him seeing you following him intently, “Headmaster…”
“Dumbledore.” You cut him off. You wouldn’t normally be so brash with somebody let alone the headmaster of the school, but you were already very comfortable around him for some reason. You knew he wasn’t going to be mad at you for doing so.
He nodded pausing to let you catch up, “Welcome to Hogwarts.”
“Thank you sir. I’m… excited to be here.” You stuttered a bit.
He smiled, “I may be old, but I can still spot a lie from a mile away. I believe you may grow to like this place. Now, I’m off. Get some rest.” He walked away without saying anything further. How odd. You’d heard that he was a bit different. You’d wish your dad would have detailed that a bit further for you.
You took his advice, attempting to find your way back to the common room was comical but you found it eventually. Not realizing how tired you were your eyes closed almost as soon as your head hit the pillow. A dreamless sleep took over not giving you the chance to prepare for the next day.

“Okay!” Lily smiled right at you, “The girls are here but they went straight to the dining hall. They promised to save us some seats.” She waited by the door for you. You paused looking at yourself in the mirror. It was now or never. You’d met a few other Gryffindor’s but tried to simply stay out of the way, “Come on, you look beautiful.” She nodded holding the dorm room door open for you.
“I’m coming. I’m coming.” You nodded slightly before following her quickly out the dorm and down to the common room. The two of you walked quickly, blowing right by a group of boys who seemed to be very close in age to you.
“Evans!” Lily groaned hearing a voice call from behind her. She had such a peaceful summer without James Potter. But he’d found her in record time this year. She paused. Before you could even register what was going on you smacked right into her back. It wasn’t really your fault you didn’t know it was her last name and the boy was calling for her. If you’d have known that you might’ve slowed down a bit.
“Sorry.” You groaned holding her steady by the shoulders, keeping her from falling over backwards.
“It’s okay.” She smiled at you before moving in front of you. Her smile downturned quickly as the group approached the two of you.
“And a gorgeous new girl.” The one with long dark hair stated looking right at you. Staring so deeply it almost made you uncomfortable. Like he was trying to peer into your entity. Trying to discover you through such a simple look.
“Sirius!” The tall one with light brown hair punched him in the shoulder, “Be quiet for once.”
Sirius shrugged, “Call it like I see it. Absolutely ravishing.” His gaze darkened a shade taking you in. Eyes raking up and down made you feel exposed in the black robes. Suddenly you missed your blue robes you’d gotten used to at Ilvermorny. The look was more intimidating than you would’ve liked. He was handsome that was for sure. But the looks were already too much for you to handle.
“Anyway,” James looked annoyed at Sirius before turning back to Lily not letting you get a response in before he turned the conversation back to where he wanted it, “How was your summer, Lily?”
“It was great. Without you.” Her seemingly sweet exterior was so viscerally annoyed by him your eyes went wide hearing that response. Sure, you’d only known her for a few hours but it didn’t seem like she had it in her.
James let the insult roll right off. He was used to it. He was growing tired of it by now. He’d been trying for years at this rate. The gig was running up on his accord, “And yours?” He turned his attention towards you. The new Gryffindor girl.
“Honestly, not so great.” You knew you weren’t the best liar. It was better to be honest. You’d learned that early in life after countless failures at trying to lie.
Sirius’ eyebrows raised as he listened, “An American?”
It was now or never, “You’re so observant. What gave it away?” With a surge of confidence, you answered his question with one of your own.
The one with unruly brown hair and the cutest round glasses started laughing, loudly, at that, “I like you.” He appreciated when people could throw it back in Sirius’ face. It wasn’t often someone could go toe to toe with him. You seemed up for the challenge though.
He scrunched his nose up a bit apparently a little offended by your own question, rolling his eyes in defeat at the same time.
“No, you don’t.” Lily shook her head grabbing your hand in preparation of pulling you away, “The girls are waiting. Let’s go Y/N.”
You nodded, “Nice to meet you four.” You tried waving to them, but she pulled you away almost the second you spoke.
“Likewise stranger.” The one that originally called for Lily yelled out to you. The cute one with the adorably messy hair and way to cute glasses.
“Who was that?” You asked after she slowed down outside the common room.
She shook her head urgently, “Bad news. Stay away from him. That entire group. Remus is the only decent one. But look at the company he keeps, so who knows.” She sighed leading you towards the dining hall. Each time you made it out of the common room you picked up a little bit more of the castle. It was still an enormous living maze, but you were slowly getting there.
“Alright.” You nodded along continuing to follow her along. You took the seat across from her ignoring all the stares you were receiving from all the different tables. You were the new girl. It was to be expected. It all still felt so foreign to you. The colors were much different to start. The castle was much grander. Everything was the same but so slightly different.
“You made it! And you brought a new friend.” She turned towards you, “I’m Marlene.”
“And I’m Mary.” The pretty girl sitting next to Lily introduced herself.
“Hi.” You nodded to each girl, “Nice to meet you both.” You wanted to implode in on yourself after seeing the curious glances each girl tossed Lily.
“Oh, you’ve got to tell us how you ended up here.” Marlene squeezed your arm immediately once hearing your accent, a detail Lily had left out when she told them there was a new sixth year transfer.
That’s how you became quick friends with a few of the girls you were sharing a room with, by divulging your life story. They were attentive listeners and even better at asking questions as they learned about you. You were only interrupted when the four boys from earlier found seats next to you and Lily. The one who was trying to grab her attention earlier, the brown haired one, sat next to Lily and Sirius sat down next to you.
“Lily! Y/N. So glad we ran into you.” James grinned attempting to scoot closer to Lily who was having none of it.
“What are we then James?” Marlene stared at the boy who you didn’t have a name for yet for excusing her and Mary in the hello’s.
He wanted to roll his eyes but stopped short. It was always best to stay on her good side though, “Marlene, Mary.” He nodded acknowledging there presence as well, “Have a nice summer holiday?” He asked Marlene who just rolled her eyes in response.
“We don’t want your pity questions James.” She turned back towards Mary. A small smile crossed your lips as you observed the interaction between what you assumed to be old friends. You looked back over to Lily who didn’t look so thrilled to be interrupted by the group, her arms crossed over her chest and a frown not so happily across her face.
“And I don’t really want you here Potter.” She spat out his last name. You made a note to ask her about this later. She really seemed to dislike him.
“Ouch.” Sirius tried defending his friend by deflecting the conversation back to him.
“Oh, you always have something to say!” Lily was visibly frustrated now. You weren’t quite sure what to do either. The two groups clearly having some sort of history that you weren’t privy too, yet. You couldn’t wait to grill them tonight like they just grilled you about your own life.
“Let’s just go.” The shier one from earlier stood, “James you have all year to annoy Lily. Sirius you have the same to flirt with Y/N.”
Sirius grinned standing next to his friend, “It won’t even take a month. Give me more credit than that.” He countered making sure to wink right at you. You were more shocked than disgusted. American boys were straight forward but nothing quite like this. This was right in your face kind of flirting.
Your eyebrows were surely raised in visible surprise by now. He might’ve been the hottest guy you’ve ever laid your eyes on, but his personality was something left to be desired. You decided to take on the confident American route. It was either that or get eaten alive by him, “You’d be so lucky.” Rolling your eyes, you turned your attention back to Lily and the group. That wasn’t before you caught the sly grin spreading across James’ face.

“I’m telling you both!” Marlene laughed as you, her, and Lily walked to potions together. Luckily you and Lily had nearly identical schedules. You were sure McGonagall had something to do with it, but she just brushed it off. You were utterly thankful for the so-called coincidence though. You didn’t think you’d be able to make it around without her. The castle being over a thousand years older than Ilvermorny truly made Howards feel like a gigantic maze you were never going to figure out.
“Alright,” Lily laughed feeling the warmth radiate from Marlene. For as snappy as Marlene was she was truly one of the kindest people you’d met, “say Remus really does like Dorcas… what do we do?”
You shook your head, “Nothing. Nothing good happens when you meddle in between two people!” You warned the both of them. Marlene had heard a rumor that Dorcas was interested in Remus and Remus was very interested in her. She wanted to do something about it, of course. Finding the two of them too shy to make any moves. But you knew better, that would never end well.
“That’s no fun Y/N.” Marlene visibly pouted trying to make you feel a little bad. It wasn’t going to work on you though. You were the queen of doing shit like this.
You laughed to your new friends, “Go for it then. Gives me something to watch.” Eyebrows raised as if to challenge them you only laughed harder seeing Marlene’s shocked expression.
Both girls joined in your laughter as the group made its way down to the potions classroom. Potions wasn’t your least favorite class but it’s not like you enjoyed it. It never really came that naturally to you like it did so many other students. Your favorite class, almost like anybody at Ilvermorny would say, was charms. Unfortunately, you couldn’t take that all day, or you would.
The three of you continued chatting until something wet, sticky, and far too gooey dropped onto all three of your heads. Marlene gasped as she started trying anything to get the disgusting smelling goo off of her. Lily started yelling that James and his stupid boy group was behind it. You were a little too stunned to speak. You weren’t the biggest fan of surprises, and this so-called prank came out of nowhere completely taking you off guard. You’d never felt so… exposed?
You heard the snickers of Sirius and the one you’d learned was named Peter up ahead. James wasn’t to be seen and Remus looked almost apologetic. Like he couldn’t stop them but needed to supervise his friends. You had a feeling the two of you would be fast friends.
Taking out your wand you knew the charm that would do the trick. Whispering out a soft, ‘skurge’ holding your wand out to Marlene who was more in a fit of rage than in any state of trying to figure out who had done it. She shot you a thanks when she realized you were the one who used a charm to clean her up. Once she was cleaned up you cast the same spell at Lily who gave you a thumbs up before taking off to go yell at the boys who had the audacity to do that to them.
You probably should’ve cleaned yourself up before taking a step, but you weren’t really thinking all that clearly. Unlucky for you the goo had seeped down your robe and onto the stone all around you. Being as clumsy as you were you stepped right into the slippery stuff. Your legs slipped out behind you. Before anybody could even react your head contacted the stone stairway behind you knocking you nearly unconscious. Your eyes opened quickly. Placing a hand behind your head you hazily remembered what just occurred.
“Oh, shit.” Sirius knew he was in trouble when you didn’t immediately stand up.
Lily’s face went a little pale. Marlene stepped back. Remus was the only one who seemed to come to his senses enough to react. Quickly, he walked over to you whispering another charm to close up the back of your head. He might not be able to fix the internal damage, but he’d be damned if he let your head continue to bleed.
“What happened?” James asked looking at the scene before him in confusion. He decided on taking the morning to train for quidditch on the pitch with his captain. He was a good chaser. But he wanted to be remembered for being great. He knew he needed to put in the time so that’s he worked it in. Before class. Between it and after it. He was still working on the whole timing thing though. He didn’t mean to be late, he just forgot to set the timer.
Sirius took a step forward before shyly looking away from him, “She slipped. It was an accident.” He didn’t want to elaborate. The angry look already evident on his friends face. Remus helped you to your feet making sure you could actually stand before taking a step back.
“Slipped on what Sirius?” James looked mad. Like he wanted to punch Sirius right in the face. Both Lily and Marlene watched the interaction curiously. He’d only shown that level of protection over Lily before. Had all her years of pushing him away actually worked? Was Lily actually free of James Potter’s advances? Was it at a cost to you? Sirius looked away like a puppy being scolded for doing something it knows not to.
“That goo we made the other night.” It wasn’t often that James yelled at Sirius for a prank. More often than not he was egging him right along. Remus was the one who stopped a majority of their pranks. He let the more innocent ones go. He thought this one was going to be innocent enough.
James was more than angry. They talked about it literally last night. Lily was off limits. You were off limits until they either got to know you better or you pranked them first. James didn’t want to admit how intrigued you made him in just the two short interactions you’d had. That same possessive nature came out when he saw you on the ground holding the back of your head with blood running down in.
James rolled his eyes at his best friend. He’d have it in for him tonight. But for now, he was more concerned with the delirious gaze your eyes seemed to have held. It’s like you were there but you weren’t. James knew that expression. He’d seen countless teammates and himself in that state after a bludger or bat knocked them off their brooms. You’d be fine but it should never have happened. That’s why he was upset.
“Remus, tell Professor Slughorn what happened. I’ll take her to the hospital wing. They should know what to do.” He took one of your hands in his. You weren’t feeling too great at this point. It looked like there were at least three versions of himself in your vision. It was hard to even focus on James’ face in front of you.
Remus’ eyes shot up in surprise. James wasn’t usually the first one that sprung to action. Certainly not for somebody he’d just met to boot, “Alright.” He watched him curiously for a moment before turning to the rest of the group who were all watching just as questioningly. James wasn’t like this. He was the pompous asshole usually standing tall next to Sirius.
James turned his attention back to you and the gash on the back of your head. He nodded in approvement of Remus’s ability to heal. It was usually him or Sirius doing the healing, not Remus. This too was a change.
“Can you walk love?” He asked squeezing your hand gently after turning away from his friends. Remus made sure to usher them into the classroom no matter how bad they all wanted to watch the strange scene before them. It was so seemingly out of character for James.
Turning your head towards him you winced feeling the extent of how hard your head really hit that step, “Hmm?” You heard him but you didn’t really hear what he had said.
When he asked again you tried to form words in your head but was seeming to come up just short. Only seemingly to be able to nod or mumble out responses. You might’ve hit your head harder than you thought. How wild was it to be able to comprehend but not able to communicate back.
“Okay.” He frowned trying to pull you but not being able to get far before your legs wanted to give out. He sighed turning back towards you, “I’m going to have to pick you up now. Is that alright?”
Nodding your head was all he was going to get out of you at this point. You were starting to fade faster than even you thought. You heard a faint, “I’m so sorry, I told him not to.” Before you brain decided it needed you knocked out.

“Ahh, Miss Y/L/N. You’re awake.” You heard the healer speak before your eyes were even open. It always amazed you that they seemed to know your status before even you did. Sucking in a sharp breath you felt the back of your head with a dull throb, “Drink this.” She handed you a cup of dark nasty smelling liquid.
You tossed it back trying not to gag on the medicine. You never questioned what they gave you because it was always beneficial. But it always tasted like shit. No matter what it was it tasted like your least favorite food multiplied by a hundred.
“Yeah, guess I am.” You opened your eyes again slower this time, glancing at your surroundings. You’d expected to see many places in your first week here, but the hospital wing was certainly not one.
“Knocked your head there pretty good, yeah?” The woman smiled standing next to you, “You’ll feel a little fuzzy for the next few hours before the potion kicks in. Mr. Potter here offered to watch over you for the afternoon.” She smirked at you blocking his view. Like she knew something you didn’t.
“Sure.” You nodded your head gently. You were surely going to have to find a good, albeit less painful, stunt to pull back on Sirius. Because this whole thing was too embarrassing when you thought about it. You were already the school gossip that was slowly dying down now it was all going to be reignited after this whole thing.
“Very well.” Her thick Irish accent made it almost impossible for you to understand, “You’re free to go.”
“Thank you.” Pushing yourself up you took a moment to get your bearings straight.
James stood out of his chair quickly walking over to your side, “Easy now love.”
You laughed more to yourself than him, “I thought that was just a rumor.” You mumbled. He gave you a confused expression as if ready to call the healer back over, “The love thing.”
He offered his hand for you to take. Without even thinking you took his offer using him to balance as you stood on your feet. You felt the potion kicking in as the fuzziness began to fade slowly. You always thanked your lucky stars that you were born as a wizard and not a no-maj. You’d have probably killed yourself from how clumsy you were.
James smiled, understanding your comment, “Does it make you uncomfortable?” He asked. You thought for a moment before breaking out into a smile of your own. Had a guy ever been so thoughtful before? He asked for permission before touching you, asked if his words were too much. You needed to be careful before you got yourself into too much trouble. Your thoughts wandering too far. There was deep history there with one of your newest friends. You didn’t want to mess anything up with that either.
You shook your head, regretting it almost instantly, “Not at all. I think it’s cute.” Your filter was clearly gone with the potion working its magic.
“Cute?” James smiled taking your hand in his.
“Cute.” You reaffirmed hoping he’d let it go and not tease you too incessantly about it.
James made a mental note of it before changing the conversation. He’d agreed to make sure you were in good hands. He’d happily skip class at the doctor’s orders. At least he had a very valid excuse, “Come on, let’s get you back to the common room.”
You agreed with a hum, “Sounds like a plan, Stan.” You grinned goofily following in his footsteps quickly. He wouldn’t let you fall too far behind with his hands still in yours.
James shook his head while half-way puling you along, “I knew that rumor was true.”
“Which one?”
He paused, smiling to himself, “That Americans are really strange.”
A shocked but goofy expression came to you, “I’m hereby offended for all Americans with a comment like that James Potter.”
He shrugged continuing the small trek back to the Gryffindor common room, “Have you tried not being strange, love?” James was having a little too much fun now. Knowing he was crossing the line between friendly and concerned to one of a much flirtier nature. Conversations with Lily were always negative and ended up being too exhausting. All the while he found himself drawn to you just by short conversation he’s shared with you. He quickly came to admire the quick-witted nature about you. How sure you carried yourself for being thrown in the situation you had been in.
As nervous as you were to spend the whole afternoon with James there was nothing to worry about. The conversation came so easily between the two of you. It was almost as if two old friends were reconnecting after not seeing the other for a while. The two of you having more in common than you would’ve thought. Both of you not having any siblings but coming from a very rigid but loving home. Both of you having to move around for your dad’s jobs. Your father being in the government while his you learned created a hair product that was becoming rather successful uprooting their family from normalcy.
He even went on to explain his and Lily’s relationship, or lack thereof one. He admitted all the faults he’d made throughout the years and how he actually started trying to mend the relationship last year, but she wasn’t buying it.
“I think you should keep trying.” You encouraged him, “At least to just be friends. I know I don’t know her like the other girls do but she’s really a great person. I’m sure she’s got a soft spot for you somewhere.” You nudged him. The two of you had started on opposite ends of the couch but had slowly migrated closer together. Neither of you caring about the curious looks you were getting from each and every Gryffindor student grades one through seven that passed by.
He nodded letting out a sigh, “I’ll keep trying. She doesn’t make it very easy.” He laughed with a sad look in his eye, “Enough about her. How are you feeling?” He’d noticed how your eyes had gotten progressively more tired throughout the afternoon. The potion must’ve been wearing off. No matter what it seemed to be it always left the recipient tired after a certain amount of time.
James looked at the clock closing in on five. He knew the guys would be meeting in the cafeteria. He’d all but abandoned them today. But they had to have known. As gross as it was to admit he was almost thankful everything went down. He’d gotten to spend time with the new girl who’d immediately grabbed his attention. It scared him how quickly you swooped in and stole his focus away from Lily.
Lily noticed immediately. Instead of pestering her throughout class he started going for you. She bit her tongue when she saw him toss you a note charming it to unfold when Professor McGonagall looked away. Lily would’ve immediately crumpled it up and tossed it back to him. You smiled from ear to ear seeing the sweet little note sent your way. Scribbling back a reply quickly to him you tossed it as soon as McGonagall turned away again. She didn’t know how to feel about the change. She wasn’t sad or jealous. She really didn’t want him. She missed the attention a little. You were now getting it all. She couldn’t blame him though. He’d been trying for years. He finally got the hint.
You definitely welcomed the attention. It felt good. Refreshing. Sirius backed off immediately getting the not-so-subtle hints from James. James had decided he was going to get to know you. He was going to do it the right way. Get to know you, become a friend and then hopefully more. He’d never expected this. He had every intention of pursuing Lily when he got back to school but then you showed up. He found you absolutely fascinating and just downright adorable.
“I’m good. Just a little tired.” You admitted after not being able to stop the yawn from coming.
He nodded, “Why don’t you go take a nap? I’ll tell one of the girls to bring you back some dinner. I’d help you upstairs, but those stairs are charmed.” He smiled knowing he’s tried damn near everything to break the charm. Turns out old wizards are better at magic than he was.
It started slow. With those notes that Lily noticed. Then it progressed to cute little lunch dates away from the group. James made sure that you attended his quidditch matches throughout the beginning of the school year. He knew if you were there he’d play better. He wanted to impress you. And impress you he did. He was everywhere out on the pitch. Playing out of his damn mind every time the ball came his way. After a few quick weeks of small gestures, he’d finally got the courage to ask you out on a real date, a dinner date away from the dining hall and prying eyes. He’d promised a candlelight picnic up in the astronomy tour since the sun set so early in the night.
He'd delivered on his promise, big time. You’d gasped lightly when you saw what looked like thousands of white candles all over the top of the tower with a small picnic set up in the middle. Roses, your favorite flower, as décor and all.
“James, wow.” You took it all in walking around the footpath he had made. You were sure he’d found a spell or something, but it was always the thought that counted. He’d actually listened to you. For the first time in forever a guy listened to what you liked and what you wanted and then executed on those wishes. How were you not going to absolutely give this guy a shot? You’d felt a little bad taking him away from Lily, but she gave you her full blessing. She started dating a handsome seventh year not long after James’s interest in her had almost completely vanished as it shifted towards you.
He rubbed the back of his neck nervously as he watched you take it all it, “Hopefully you like it.” He looked at you with a hopeful expression.
You stopped before abruptly walking towards him giggling to yourself, “Do I like it? James Potter this is incredible. I love it. It’s everything and more.”
He sighed in relief suddenly feeling so much more confident, “Oh, that’s a relief. I’ve never done anything like this.”
Your smile was one that could really light up a room. Especially since you were already so smitten with the unruly haired man, “I would’ve never have known. It’s beautiful. Thank you James.” You hugged him quickly. Giving his lips a brief flash before you squeezed his torso into your own. It’s crazy how much you’d grown to care for the boy over the last three or so weeks of knowing him.
You grew to care for his insane friends too. Sirius ended up apologizing. While things started rocky the two of you quickly became scheming buddies. Remus tried his best to stop the two of you but often came up short. He was able to stop one mischievous mind but three altogether? There wasn’t a chance. Lucky for them you were clever and often thought your way out of the problems that always inevitably rose. You’d help them avoid detention for the last two weeks which was almost unheard of for them.
When you weren’t with Sirius you were studying with Remus. You had a lot of different small things to catch up on. Thankfully Remus offered to help knowing how difficult it all probably was. Especially since he knew James was after you now. Making it official to the guys the previous night before bed. Oh, how quickly the heart can change when it needs to.
He decided to throw caution to the wind as he wrapped his arms fully around you, thoroughly enjoying the height different between you. He kissed the top of your head before resting on it gently, still holding you close, “Anything for you.”
You hummed holding him peacefully. Luckily for you the usually gray Scottish sky decided to clear up for you this fine autumn evening. After a moment you pulled away, “I’m starving.” You admitted before you heard a rumble in your stomach you were sure James heard.
The laughter that left his lips confirmed your fear, oh well, “Let’s eat. I had a few of the house elves from the kitchens pack this up, so it should be good.” He let you walk ahead. He followed close behind you though. Making sure to keep his hand around your waist in the process.
“Really?” You asked curiously sitting down next to the basket in the spot he had made, “How’d you pull that off?”
He shrugged, “I know a lot of secrets about this castle. I can teach you sometime.” His goofy grin pulled yours right out alongside his. He was so handsome as the candlelight lit up his features with the moon behind him.
You nodded while memorizing his features in this rare light, “I’d love that James. I really would.” You wanted to give him all of the confidence he usually had. Of course, you found it adorable he had gotten so nervous. But you truly were starting to fall in love with the chatty James. The unashamed to be himself James.
You were nervous too though. You’d never had a boy care enough to go to such lengths. It made you horrifically nervous that you’d mess it all up, say the wrong thing at the wrong time. You knew better than to stress about it. It was too easy to spiral when those thoughts would never even cross James’ mind. You needed to relax. He had feelings for a reason. He was interested in you.
“It’s a date then.” He said so casually you weren’t sure if you heard him right. But the smile on his face confirmed what you thought was true. This one had hardly started and the two of you were already setting up the next one.
It took the pressure right on off when you nodded confirming, “It’s a date.”
“How’s Saturday afternoon sound? We have practice in the morning but it’s our first Hogsmeade weekend if you wanted to come with me.” He looked nervous asking but he didn’t need to worry, not one bit.
You nodded excitedly while taking a piece of cheese off the plate, “I’d love to! Seriously, that sounds like so much fun.” You’d heard the girls talking about Hogsmeade and how fun it was to go and get away from the castle. You were planning on going with Marlene and Dorcas since Lily was going with her new fling. You weren’t too worried about telling them that you’d had a slight change of plans, they’d been pushing it surprisingly. Even after Lily rejected him for years, the group seemed much more open to the idea of you and James together.
His soft smile at your response sent your heart into a frenzy. The physical reactions you were having because of him was unlike anything you’d ever experienced. Sure, you’ve been on dates and had a supposed ‘boyfriend’ but this… this was something entirely different. You didn’t feel anything that deep. Nothing like this. The effortless nature of the relationship. The desire to be always around him. The want to see his face, hear his laugh and touch his skin was growing stronger by the day at an alarming rate.
“How do you like flying?” James asked as the two of you continued to eat in a comfortable silence.
“I’ll be honest. I’m tragic at it. Never got the hang of it.” It was easier to just admit the truth than trying to hide behind a lie.
James leaned forward, eyes gazing over every point on your face. He too was admiring your beauty as the moonlight cast a soft shadow over your face. He got butterflies as he began to see a future with you. He wanted to make plans. He wanted to show you how to do things you didn’t know how to. Hell, he even wanted you to meet his parents. He was ready to dive first into this entire thing without fear. James had so much love to give and nobody to give it to. He wanted to give it to you.
“I can show you.” He spoke after the brief gaze he had given you.
Your eyes were all but sparkling by now. It amazed you that Lily was so anti-James. But you’d gotten her story and understood. Third- and Fourth-year James was a total menace to any desired peace at Hogwarts. Even James agreed to the accusations. Admitting he probably wasn’t the best person during those years.
Fortunately for you, you’d only gotten to see him at his best. He was still his goofy, fun-loving self just toned down a bit. Or a lot.
“You would?” Leaning back onto the palms of your hands you sat there an observed him. It was hard for you to believe that you’d managed to get such a handsome and fun guy to fall for you like you were him. You never found yourself to be the most desirable at Ilvermorny. All the guys seemed to go for your friends leaving you to fend for yourself. It never bothered you, just left you wanting to feel desired.
He nodded taking your hand in his, “Absolutely I would!” He grinned scooting closer to you, “Let’s do it.”
He moved as if to stand confusing you, “Now?”
He shrugged still making sure to hold your hand while he got up, “Why not?”
You looked around, “It’s dark?”
“So?” His smile was so big you began to feel the excitement that was radiating off him. Your smile slowly matched his as you thought about it some more.
“What if I fall?”
He shook his head pulling you to your feet now, “I’d never let that happen, love.” He could sense your unease as you surveyed the lands in the moonlight from the tower, “I’ll tell you what. Why don’t you ride with me tonight? Next time I’ll get you your own broom.”
Nodding quickly, you didn’t want to lose your courage. You trusted him. Probably more than you should. You had only known him for the better amount of three weeks. But there was something so pure and honest that you knew he was telling you the utmost truth, he’d never let you fall, “Okay. Let’s do it.”
“Yeah?” He asked once more making sure you were actually okay with the spontaneous plan.
“Come on, let’s go before I can think of all the reasons not too.” You squeezed his hand this time to reassure him.
“I knew I liked you.” Placing a quick kiss on your cheek, to your surprise, he happily escorted you out of the castle and to the pitch where the two of you spent the next few hours flying around occasionally checking to make sure nobody was onto you. You had a certain feeling that this was going to be the start of a brand-new life for you. One filled with the utmost love and the most insane adventures. You were going to have to thank you mom for not letting you talk her out of moving you half a world away. But man, were you thankful.

Sorry to put in another, but thinking about Hawks with a darling who he likes to let his hunter prey instincts kick in. He's taken them, maybe out to a cabin in the woods. Giving darling little opportunities to escape. Her thinking it's by accident but he likes the chase. 💀🖤 No pressure, ignore if not interested haha 😅
Hehehe, I love the good ole predator-prey dynamic! But I can imagine in the beginning he just does it without saying why. Confusing and scaring the poor reader.

The door was unlocked. Hawks had never even so much as left a window unlocked since he took you. You could see through the crack the locks weren't in. All you had to do was twist the handle and open the door. You didn't have to go through his several locks. The critical part of you knew something was wrong. Hawks was brilliant, a perverted monster, but intelligent. Maybe he forgot? No, he never forgot anything when it came to you. Your mind pondered what was happening. Questions and questions echoed in your head. Yet, no real answer surfaced.
Your hands itched at your side, begging to open the door. To get the hell away before he came back. He hadn't been out long, you had a chance to put some actual distance between you and him if you ran now. Your legs carried you closer, even as your mind opposed. This was a trick, a trap. He wouldn't be so careless after all he's done. After all the time and effort he put into getting and keeping you with him. You knew better after all these weeks to think anything was a mistake or an accident with him. No, Hawks was calculated. Nothing was left to chance. Even with this change in scenery, the cabin was not simply a "couples getaway" as he said. No, it was a place smaller than his home. Fewer rooms, less space for you to hide from him. Hide from his touches, his advances. There was always a motive behind his actions, behind his decisions. This door was no different. Yet, as your hand reached the doorknob. Your perception of him faded. All your mind could focus on was the word "run".
Your body sprang into action once you opened the door. Pushing your body out of the thresh hold. Out of the door, out of the cabin. You hadn't even put shoes on. Feeling the dirt on your feet. Ignoring the way twigs would poke and jab at them. It didn't matter. Nothing did, all that you cared about was running. Running as fast and far as you could. You didn't have money, not enough clothes to keep you warm at night. No real plan of what to do after. All you could think of was to run.
Your body had carried you farther than you thought it could. It wasn't until you had run about five kilometres straight before you felt the weight of it. Your legs felt heavy, your lungs even worse. You had been locked away for weeks without much movement unless it was in bed with Hawks. Your body wasn't used to this. You needed a break. Needed to rest for a bit. You made a good amount of distance between you and the cabin, right? A small rest wouldn't hurt, he wouldn't be back for hours anyway.
Sitting against a tree, you stretched your legs. Trying to catch your breath and get ready to keep on going. Closing your eyes, leaning your head against the tree. Letting yourself relax and cool down. Even with your eyes closed, you could enjoy the sun and breeze on your face.
You were out. That was all that mattered right now. You were out, enjoying the fresh air. Enjoying freedom. However, that voice was back. "He wouldn't leave the door unlocked" rang in your head. He was calculated and always prepared. It wasn't right to suddenly have all those locks not in use. Your thoughts were cut short.
The sun vanished for a moment as a gust of wind hit your face. Opening your eyes. Staring into the sky you were met with a clear blue sky. The sun was still there, no clouds. The wind was even calm. Could you have imagined that? Was the fear of running really causing you to imagine that? Looking at the sky, you stood. Looking around, trying to figure out what that was. The sky was clear, with no clouds. Even the branches were still. The trees were beautiful. Full and green. Looking around you admired the scenery. You had missed this.
A pop of red caught your eye. It was small and high up. A cardinal you assumed. So, you watched. Waiting for it to fly away, but it didn't. It stayed in the same position. So still, unnatural. Perhaps an early red leaf. It wasn't until the red made you nervous, forcing you up and to continue your journey that it moved. Floating down slowly. Falling closer to your feet than it naturally should of. It wasn't a cardinal. It wasn't a bird at all. No, it was a red feather. Much too larger to be of any bird you had seen. You could feel your heart rate race back up. Breathing became difficult again. You knew that feather. Knew what-who it belonged to. You've seen that feather hundreds of times. Laying around the house. On the furniture. Covering you in the mornings. On him, on his back. Attached to his wings. It belonged to him. It was Hawks' feather. How could you have missed it? It was so clearly his shade of red.
The panic was rising again. You felt nauseous, like bile was rising in your throat. He was near. He had to be. He was aware of his feathers at all times. That meant it was planted, that he was-
"There you are."
It was him.
Without thinking you ran. Ran as fast as you could. You made it this far, you couldn't go back. You wouldn't let him take you back just to keep you locked up again.
You couldn't see him, you were staying focused on the path ahead. Weary of any low branch or raised root that could hinder your getaway. Even without looking up, you could feel his presence. Feel him close by. Feel the slight breeze from his wings. At any moment he could swoop down. He could come down and pin you to the ground.
"Oh come on, don't be like that."
He was laughing at you, while you were fighting for your life through the trees. Trying to stay upright and focused. All you could hope for was there had to be a point where the trees become too thick for him to see you, or even swoop down at you. But it never got to that point. The trees were always bare enough for him to make his way down. Occasionally he would. You would feel the pressure of the wind against your back as he dipped lower. The flash of red by your head and his stupid laugh. He was having fun. Enjoying himself as he watches you cry and run. Fighting for your life.
Your legs were giving out. You weren't made for running, especially not this far with no training. Looking around, searching for somewhere to hide for a moment. Luckily, you were granted some kind of mercy. There were a few trees growing closer together than the rest. Creating a thicker skyline and a few fallen trees to hide under. It wasn't much, but if he wanted you he'd have to come down and drag you out. A better mercy than this chase.
Heading toward the trees. You took cover under a few of the smaller ones that had fallen. He couldn't see you directly anymore, but he knew you were there. You watched as his shadow circled the area a few times.
"Given up already sweetie."
"Go to hell." Your temper got the better of you.
Hawks laughed at your response. He was sick, enjoying himself. Getting off on your fear. If only people knew the truth. That he wasn't some kind of sweet hero boy they made him out to be.
"Oh come on. Just come out already. I'm not done yet." So this was some sort of game to him. You were being chased for his amusement. Fuck, you were an idiot. He left the door unlocked on purpose. You should have listened to yourself. He wanted this, wanted you to run. Like always, you were playing his game.
"Please, please just stop."
You wanted this to end already. You didn't want to play his game anymore. You were an idiot for thinking you had any real chance. Any hope of getting away from him. Even if you could get away from him physically, he had money and power. You had nothing. Where would you go? Who would you tell? You had no one, while he had everyone.
Hawks made his decent down. Landing by your hiding place. A few steps before the trees got too thick. He was smiling while cocking his head to the side, ducking low to meet your gaze. Enjoying the view before him. You cowering beneath the trees, trying to hide from his site. While your heart was pumping with adrenaline from fear. His was pumping with excitement.
Hawks circled the trees. He was trying to coax you out. Get you to follow him back willingly. Trying to get his win to come to him like every other time.
"This was fun, but it's time to go home now."
"You look so cute. Now how about we go home. It's getting late and I'm rather hungry."
His words meant nothing to you. He was just getting tired of watching you be so pathetic. Wanted to get you home, back into his domain.
Soon his words turned sour. He was getting tired. Walking around, his words turned to teasing and mocking.
"You didn't get far now did you?"
"You really think these trees can keep you safe?"
Of course, they wouldn't. Nothing could keep him from you and as he dipped below the branches and snapped the few that got in the way of his wings. He proved that. You watched as your safety was being broken into.
"I-I'm sorry Haw-"
"Don't call me that."
"Please Keigo, please-" "Shhh," Hawks had gotten a few feet from you. The trees only were a nuisance for him. "We had our fun, let's go home."
Hawks dragged you out from your hiding place. Putting his arms around you as he walked the two of you back. It was awkward and mostly quiet, but there were burning questions at the back of your mind. Searing and needing to be asked.
"You did it on purpose didn't you?" "Do what?"
"The unlocked door, all of this."
"Oh," Hawks let out a chuckle. "Of course, I wouldn't be such an idiot to leave the door unlocked." You knew it. "Though apparently, it doesn't matter much. This was the third time I left the door unlocked this week."
He did it on purpose. He wanted this. Wanted you to run. Wanted the chase. Perhaps even wanted a reason to punish you. You could never truly tell with him. He would say one thing, but then his actions would want another.
As you two walked home, all you could think about was whether this game was enough for Hawks, perhaps he wanted a reason to punish you. Fear and confusion ran through you, but all you could get from Hawks was his joy. As the cabin came into view. Hawks only smiled and laid a kiss on the top of your head. Nothing made sense with him. Even after all this time, you still had only gotten the basics of staying on his good side. Of understanding the might hero Hawks.

Everyone’s waiting for your answer but your head is spinning. The silence stretches for just shy of too long before you finally clear your throat. “Can I have a minute?” You stand, shakily, pushing your chair back and making for the door. You curl your fingers around Josie’s wrist as you pass her, tugging her after you. No one tries to stop you and when you exit into the hallway, it’s empty. You glance in both directions, find them unfamiliar and then just pick one, dragging Josie behind you. Once you think you’re out of earshot of the office, you round on Josie who’s regarding you calmly. Your hands are still trembling but you can’t hide your anger anymore and you snap. “What were you thinking!” You snap and Josie’s eyes widen in surprise. Your voice trembles but the bite is still there. “First you tell me to sue him for sexual assault and now you want me to date him?!” Josie sighs, rolling her eyes.
“You really think that little of me, Roadie? Look, what he did was fucked up, and I knew you wouldn’t want to press charges because you’re well, you, but I want to support you if that’s something you really want. Either way he deserves to pay for what he did. If you don’t want to take this to court that’s fine, but why not benefit from this? You said it yourself, you’re worried about Dan’s rule, so play the system. Also, I didn’t say you should date him because I wouldn’t wish that fate on my worst enemy, I said to fake date him. It’s just a game, like playing pretend. It’s January, Dan makes his decisions on renewals by April at the latest and then maybe you stick with it until the end of the year and then you can say you broke up over summer break and it’s over. Plus it’s perfect, just have him show up to a few school events. It doesn’t have to be everyone since he has a career that has him traveling most of the year, so you have a good reason when you don’t bring him to something. And since he’ll be gone most of the time anyway, you don’t have to put much effort into the ruse.”
“Plus,” she gives you a rueful smile. “As much as it pains me to say it, Javy’s not such a bad guy. I don’t approve of his choices but I know from seeing him with the guys and Zam especially, he’s got a good heart. When he says he’s sorry and that he didn’t mean to hurt you, I think he means it. The guy has three sisters for heaven’s sake. I wouldn’t even think of suggesting this if I didn’t trust him in some capacity. And like I said, it’s not like you’re actually dating him.” She shrugs again.
“I couldn’t do something like that. Using someone that way? It’s not right.” Your heart squeezes as you force the words out and you try your best to ignore the way your voice shakes. Josie gives you a pointed look.
“He’s using you too, remember? Zam needs him to fix his reputation. A steady girlfriend is exactly what he needs, or at least the illusion of one.”
“Does he need it, or does the team?” Your words have more bite than you intended and Josie regards you curiously.
“He is the team. It’s his job, the way your teaching position is yours.” She says coolly. “I’m not going to force you one way or another, but I’m just saying, an opportunity like this isn’t going to come around again.” Your stomach is a tangle of nerves as Josie goes back inside and you consider her words. It would be mutually beneficial for both of your jobs, and he clearly wasn’t attracted to you, so perhaps some kind of agreement wouldn’t hurt. You can’t believe you’re actually considering this but you think about your kids, your classroom, and your job that you really do love. If this was what you had to do to guarantee that you kept it, you could play the game. Your kids are everything and you take great pride in your work. As a kindergarten teacher, you’re the kids’ first impression of the school and you take that job very seriously. The idea of having to hand that over to someone else makes your heart twist painfully in your chest. You can do this for them.
“Hey,” a voice breaks through your train of thought and you jump in surprise. Javy holds his hands up in front of him, backing up a step to give you space. “Easy, I didn’t mean to scare you, I’m not going to hurt you.” He says, brown eyes widening at your terrified expression. You feel your body curl into itself instinctively and see a flicker in his eyes that you can’t read. “I just wanted to make sure you’re okay.” He says slowly, eyes running over your figure but not in a scrutinizing way. If you didn’t know better, you’d think he was checking you over. “So,” he says, posture relaxing as he leans a shoulder against the wall as he regards you. “How are you feeling about this agreement?”
You pick at the fabric of the skirt of the dress, averting your eyes so you don’t have to look at him. After it’s been a little too long without you answering you give a slight shrug before you force the words out, your voice quiet. “I really love my job. I don’t want to lose it.” It’s not an answer, not really but he nods slowly as you chance a peek at his face to see his reaction. He catches your gaze and gives you a small smile. It feels like the first peek of the sun through an overcast sky after a storm. It sends an unexpected droplet of warmth plummeting straight into your stomach. You find that you don’t want to escape his gaze nearly as much after seeing that soft quirk of his lips. Cautiously, you turn to face him fully and watch as the corners of his mouth slowly tick up in tandem. The clouds move apart and as you’re bathed in his warmth, you wonder what it would feel like to experience the full force of his smile. You think it might destroy you.
“What about you?” You don’t recognize your voice when you find it. You clear your throat and try again. “How are you feeling about the agreement?” He shrugs his broad shoulders.
“There are worse things.” You suppress the urge to flinch at his casual words that send a slice of cold down your spine. “Zam’s been on my ass for months about settling down, that’s true.”
He pauses so you ask, “And you wouldn’t rather have an actual girlfriend? A real one, I mean.” He gives you a curious look.
“I could ask you the same thing,” he points out and you feel your cheeks heat as you avert your gaze from the intensity of his.
“No,” you answer softly. “I wouldn’t.” You don’t offer any additional explanation so he just nods.
“Well, I wouldn’t either.” He says and you realize you’ve unintentionally placed the two of you at a stalemate. “So, that’s it then?” He asks, finally breaking the silence. “We’re doing this?” You swallow hard before nodding firmly.
“We’re doing this.” He nods back before extending a hand into the buffer of space he’d left between the two of you. You stare at it for a long moment before extending one of your own. He holds his hand still, leaving it to you to wrap your digits around his larger ones. He curls his around yours then and you’re reminded of how they felt on your hips, pressing into the flesh like a potter molding clay. When he shakes your hand you watch the muscles flex in his arm and wonder if you’ve unknowingly thrown yourself into the deep end, condemned to a death by drowning.
“Hi, I’m Javy, nice to meet you.” Even though he’s told you his name once before, this feels different. You introduce yourself as well. It feels odd. You’ve known him before ever being introduced. This feels different, almost like the air between the two you had shifted. He lets go of your hand as quickly as he grips it and holds out his hand back towards Zam’s office.
“Shall we?” He asks and you nod, turning to go ahead of him. You feel the ghost of fingertips against the small of your back and you stiffen instinctively at the unexpected contact. “Shit, sorry, I didn’t mean to,” he apologizes instantly, pulling his fingers away. “I’m a naturally touchy guy. It’s a bad habit, I’ll try to be more aware of it if it makes you uncomfortable.” He sounds genuinely apologetic and maybe a tiny bit embarrassed. He holds the door to the office open for you as you both enter and you square your shoulders, willing them not to shake as you approach Zam’s desk.
“I’ll do it.” Zam looks surprised but nods before turning to Javy.
“Javy?” You don’t turn to look at him but the pause before his answer tells you he’s nodding.
“I’ll do it.”
“Good,” Zam says, not sounding very convincing before she tries again. “Good. I’ll draw up something official that the two of you can sign. In the meantime, the two of you should get to know each other. Javy, I’ll arrange a press conference at which you’re going to address the photos and ask the press as well as your fans to respect your girlfriend’s privacy. After that you’ll need to start appearing together in public: dates, Roadie you’ll need to start attending home games and maybe even an away game or two where your schedule permits.” Your brain starts getting hazy as the weight of what you’ve just signed up for settles onto your shoulders. Zam’s still speaking but your brain is louder as it gets heavier and then Zam’s dismissing everyone.
You feel Josie’s hand on your shoulder, steering you towards the door. You file out of the office with everyone else and follow behind Josie, your mind still so busy that you don’t hear the calling of your name until a hand curls around your wrist and you jump, letting out a squeak of surprise. The hand retreats instantly and Javy gives you a guilty look. “Sorry, but you weren’t answering.” He scratches the back of his neck. You give him a shy nod, twisting your hands in front of you. “I don’t have your phone number. I figured that’s probably important.” You fumble to extricate your phone from your purse, tapping at the screen with trembling fingers before handing it to him. He inputs the digits with ease before handing the phone back. “Cool, well I’ll be in touch.” He says before giving you one last smile before turning to jog down the hallway in the opposite direction.
Once he’s gone you look down at your phone, and your eyes widen as you see what he’s done. Your texts are open to a new conversation with a contact named “Big Sexy ;)” with a single bubble from your side of the chain reading “How’s dinner sound?” Your phone chimes and a message pops up from the opposite side of the screen.
“It would be my pleasure.” Followed by an unfamiliar address. Your breath catches in your throat. Not for the first time today you wonder if you’re in over your head.
***
Your kitchen looks like a hurricane’s gone through it. The result of the storm perches on the corner of the counter, prompt seated in a frilly baking dish. The lemon-blueberry loaf fills the space with a delicious aroma as you frown at your reflection. You’d finally invested in a full-length mirror at Josie’s behest and you’re still getting used to using it. You smooth your hands down the surface of your light-wash jeans, resisting the urge to tug at the sweater you’re wearing as you regard your reflection. Your eyes shift to the sliver of the kitchen that you can catch in the mirror and frown at the mess. You’re a stress baker and so far today you have the loaf you’re taking to Javy’s along with muffins for your class tomorrow and another tray for the teachers. You glance at the clock on the wall and grimace. If you don’t leave now you’ll be late and you don’t need that extra stress on top of everything else on your mind tonight. You begrudgingly grab your purse and the loaf pan, heading out as the sun starts to paint the sky with the warm pallet of sunset.
***
You googled the apartment complex before you left but that doesn’t stop you from craning your neck up at the impressive reflective surface of the luxury apartment building. It’s smack in the middle of downtown San Diego and you’d passed a packed highway of commuters heading in the opposite direction on your way here. As you step into the opulent lobby, you feel severely underdressed, especially as you approach the front desk. You’ve never seen an apartment with a front desk but then again you’ve never had reason to interact with the extremely wealthy aside from teaching their children. The woman at the front desk doesn’t look much younger than you but she could be older. It would make sense that a job like this would age you less than corralling elementary schoolers all day.
“Can I help you?” She asks with a nasal voice that has everything to do with her pinched expression of thinly veiled disgust as she gives you a once-over that’s definitely not in her job description. You give her a tight-lipped smile in response.
“I’m here to see Javy Machado.” You consider calling him Mr. Machado but if he’s supposed to be your boyfriend you need to sound comfortable around him. Especially since this probably won’t be the last time you have to interact with… Emma. You find her name tag as she finishes her silent assessment of you, a pitying smile on her lips.
“Oh honey, you’re not going to need that.” She nods at the loaf pan in your hands. “It’s not the kind of cake he invited you over for.” She smirks like she’s won some sort of game and you wonder exactly how many girls she’s seen come through here. You plaster your polite smile on even harder, imagining her as one of your students’ mothers. You’re not sure where your confidence comes from but maybe Roadie, fake girlfriend to superstar hockey player Javy Machado is braver than Ms. Roadie, kindergarten teacher, because you respond coolly.
“I’d appreciate it if you let my boyfriend know I’m here, please, Emma. We have dinner plans.” She looks like she’s about to snort but then her expression changes completely and you don’t understand until she addresses someone who must be behind you.
“Mr. Machado! Good evening!” She chirps cheerfully and she reminds you of a baby bird. Desperate. You steel yourself and turn to face Javy, keeping your brave face in place as best as you can.
“Perfect timing, sweetheart.” The words sound clunky and unfamiliar in your mouth and you see Javy’s eyes widen almost imperceptibly before understanding fills them.
“Hey beautiful, ready for dinner?” He leans in then, eyes watching you carefully as if trying to convey his intentions before his warm lips meet your cheek in a chaste kiss that sets your skin ablaze in its wake. You give him a simple nod, words failing you as you turn over the casual term of endearment in your mind.
Emma’s watching your exchange with barely contained shock. Javy doesn’t even pay her a moment of attention, nodding to the left in silent instruction and you follow him to an elevator bay. You register then that his hands are full of takeout bags and you immediately wrestle one from his grasp as he juggles them to free a hand for the keypad to the elevator. “Thanks," he says and you arrange the bag in your arms. “I hope you like Cajun.” The smell escaping the bags hits your nose then and your nostrils fill with the rich, spicy scent and you feel a little of the tension slip out of your shoulders even though the smell is entirely foreign to you.
“I’ve never had it.” You admit as the elevator arrives and the two of you board it.
“Never?!” He looks surprised before it melts into a grin that knocks the air out of your lungs. “Well, then this is the perfect place to try it for the first time. Well, other than New Orleans.” He amends and you nod along. The two of you fall into silence as the elevator climbs. You notice then what he’s wearing as you stand on opposite sides of the elevator. You’d felt underdressed in the lobby but he’s dressed in a faded ASU shirt and athletic shoes over socks and slide sandals. He notices you looking and gives you a rueful look. “I was banking on having time to change before you got here.” He explains and you shake your head, dismissing his half-apology.
“It’s fine. It’s your house after all.” He smiles again and the silence is back before the door slides open onto an entryway. You’ve arrived straight into his apartment and you let your eyes explore the beginning of his home. The entryway is sparse and undecorated. It looks stiff, devoid of personality. There’s a hallway that turns out of sight to your left and a closed door to the right.
“That’s the spare bedroom.” He explains as he slips off his shoes and you follow suit. “It’s a weird layout but it suits my needs.” You’re not entirely sure what he means until you follow him down the hallway. Once it opens onto the living room you think you understand Javy Machado just a little bit more.
The living room is a complete 180 from the entryway. The furniture looks expensive and the floor-to-ceiling windows overlook a breathtaking view of the city but the end tables are littered with picture frames and the space has a distinct lived-in feel. You get the feeling that his overnight guests don’t make it this far into the apartment. He makes a beeline for the kitchen and you hurry to catch up with him. You manage to catch sight of at least one of the frames’ contents and a soft smile quirks at your lips. A younger Javy and Jake grin back at you. Their arms are slung over each other’s shoulders, faces sweaty, wearing red and gold hockey jerseys that you assume are from ASU given Javy’s shirt of the same color. You make your way into the kitchen where Javy’s opening the bags and accounting for all the food. He looks up when you come in, depositing the extra bag next to him and the loaf pan beside it. He snatches it up, groaning as he takes a deep sniff of the contents.
“Roadie, this smells delicious.” He remarks before excusing himself to his bedroom to change leaving you in the kitchen. Once you’re alone, you feel the nerves start to creep back in. You worry the hem of your sweater as you wait until a faint jingling reaches your ears and you turn just in time to see a wary black snout make its way around the corner into the kitchen. Of all the things you’ve seen so far in Javy’s apartment, this is the biggest surprise. The tiny dachshund regards you curiously and you do your best to manage your nerves, knowing the dog can definitely sense them and squat down.
“Hi there,” you whisper cautiously and the dog approaches carefully. You reach a hand out and she sniffs it suspiciously before licking at your fingers and you can’t help the giggle that escapes your lips. You catch sight of her collar as you scratch her head gently. “Roxie” it reads and you smile wider. “Hi there, Roxie, it's nice to meet you.” Roxie seems equally pleased and rolls over onto her belly to encourage further scratches and rubs. You’re so consumed with her that you don’t notice Javy return until Roxie squirms into your grasp to face her owner, giving a playful yip. He’s gaping at the two of you and you’re instantly nervous again. You stand quickly, dusting your hands off on your jeans.
“S-sorry I didn’t mean to intrude I just- She came in here so I just- I’m sorry.” You sputter but he’s still staring at Roxie before he slowly moves his gaze to you. Something unreadable passes through his eyes and then he shakes his head.
“No, it's fine I just, she was supposed to be in the laundry room. And I…” he trails off before continuing. “She doesn’t usually like other people, especially strangers.”
“Oh,”
“Yeah,” he says, looking back down at where Roxie’s sitting, regarding him with a cocked head on the floor. He looks back at you, expression unreadable. “Should we eat?” You nod and follow him to sit at the countertop. He pulls two bowls out of the cabinets and opens up some take-out soup containers. “How do you feel about seafood?” Your stomach drops as nerves twist your gut. He looks up and must see your expression because he just nods and grabs one of the containers, dishing the hearty-looking stew into a bowl before passing it to you. “That one’s just sausage. I didn’t know where you stood on seafood, so I got both.” Your heart aches slightly as you thank him and take the bowl. He fills his bowl from a different container before taking a seat next to you. “So, Roadie,” he says after taking a few bites in silence, “tell me about yourself.”
You squirm slightly in your seat. You’ve never been one to talk much about yourself so you decide to stick to the basics, and treat this like a job interview. It kind of is a job interview, except you’re interviewing for a position after taking it instead of before. “I’m almost thirty. I’m a kindergarten teacher at Acacia Academy. That’s how I know Josie and Reuben. Josie and I are colleagues and their daughter Skylar is in my class.” Javy nods, before asking.
“Do you like it? Teaching?” You nod vigorously and you think you see a ghost of a smile on his lips.
“My kids mean everything to me. I can’t imagine doing something else.” You admit and he nods again.
“What do you do other than work?” You give him a confused look so he clarifies. “What are your hobbies?”
“I’m an artist,” you answer easily. “It’s not in any way professional by any means, but I like doing it.” You shrug.
“What kind of art?” He asks and you shrug again.
“I work with lots of mediums, I don’t like being limited to just one.”
“What’s your favorite?”
“Painting,” you answer easily.
“Why?” He rests his chin on his hand and you feel pinned under his casual gaze. It feels odd, and unfamiliar, being the sole focus of his attention. It’s like walking to your car on a cloudless day and feeling every inch of your cool skin prickling under the unyielding warmth of the sun.
“It’s so versatile,” you explain, dropping your gaze to where your fingers pick at the napkin pinned under your bowl. There are so many styles and techniques and nothing is clear-cut. You’re not limited by the colors you have in front of you, everything can blend. Anything’s possible. The only limitation you have is your creativity.” An unreadable look passes through his eyes but then he’s back to normal. You don’t get long to dwell on it, though, before he’s back to asking you questions.

“So, you said your principal doesn’t care about making illegal rules because it’s a private school, so why not teach at a public school?” You fidget with your spoon, looking away from him before answering.
“Public schools aren’t really a good fit for me. I can’t get comfortable.” He doesn’t push and you’re thankful.
“Speaking of comfort, we should talk about how we’re going to do this.” At your confused expression, he elaborates. “Pretend to be in a relationship, I mean. For starters, if we’re really going to sell this, you can’t be jumping out of your skin every time I touch you. People are going to expect at least a little PDA.” He must see the wide-eyed dread on your face because he holds up a placating hand. “I’m not saying we have to make out every time there are cameras around, but holding hands, hugs, and the occasional kiss here and there are going to have to be something you’re comfortable with.” You nod, weakly. “That being said, if there’s anything specific you don’t want me doing, tell me. I don’t want you to be scared of me. We’re on the same team here. This doesn’t work if we’re not working together.” You nod, nervously. It wasn’t like this last time, this is all new territory for you. “If it’ll help you loosen up, we could just have sex. No strings attached, obviously, but if it’ll make you more comfortable-“
“NO.” Your voice comes out with more force than you intended it to, laced with terror as your heart hammers in your chest. What are you doing here? What were you thinking, agreeing to this? Of course, he’d expect you to have sex with him. He’s used to having a new girl every night. You’re losing the battle with your thoughts when Javy breaks right through them.
“Hey, HEY, easy Roadie, it was just a suggestion, we don’t have to.” He looks like he’s fighting the urge to grab your hands in his.
“Please,” you hate the way the word sounds. You want something to feel real. One first to be yours, truly yours. Clearly, he hates the way it sounds too because his face contorts into something unfamiliar before he nods.
“No sex, done.” He hesitates for a moment before he opens his mouth again, choosing his words carefully and you see a flash of rage in his eyes and you bristle in fear. “Roadie… I know I’m probably the last person you want to talk about this with, but I just,” he shakes his head, pushing forward. “Did, did someone hurt you?” You realize what the rage in his eyes is now. Not anger at you, for turning him down, but protectiveness. Because he’s taken your vehement refusal as something else. You faintly remember Josie mentioning that he has three sisters. Of course, that would be his first instinct. You shake your head quickly.
“No, no, it’s not that.” You can tell he doesn’t believe you and thinks you just don’t trust him as the fire in his eyes doesn’t dim.
“If you ever need someone to talk to, all the girls on the team are really sweet and would be willing to-“
“It’s not that.” You insist and you can tell he’s still unconvinced.
“Not that you have to talk to someone but I’m sure it might help-“
“JAVY, I’m a virgin.” You squeeze your eyes shut before blurting out the words, hiding from the shame that coats your throat in their wake. The silence between the two of you stretches long enough that eventually you crack open an eye to see his reaction, but there isn’t one. He’s just sitting there, waiting for you. You wrench your other eye, struggling to get comfortable in the silence. Your fingers twist together in your lap as you wait for him to say something.
“That wasn’t your first kiss, was it?” He says, finally and you can see the gears turning in his mind as he follows his new line of thinking but you shake your head.
“No, I, I’ve been kissed before. It’s just… it’s been a while. I’m a little out of practice.” He nods, contemplating something unspoken before he nods again and looks you straight in the eye.
“Roadie, can I kiss you?”
