He was your priority. Hydra had recruited you with the hopes of creating an experiment to see if anyone could be trained to look after the assassin frozen in a Cyrogentic state. You were trained and kept underground to be the lead carer and doctor for the Winter Soldier. He was yours to look after, physically and mentally. After each mission you sent him on, he’d return and give you the reports. Most importantly, you were always the first face he’d see before and after being on the ice.
The Soldier would answer to you and Alexander Pierce, but even that was touchy sometimes as he would look to you before answering Pierces’ questions as if he was asking for permission to talk.
What’s more, is that you knew who he was outside of his assassin's status. James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes, born in 1917, was the best friend to the one and only Captain America, Steve Rogers, who was currently alive, having been found in the ice and unbeknown to him, his best friend was also alive with similar super solider serum pumping through his veins. Steve was Bucky’s potential saviour; one day, you hoped to be there when this could become a reality; however, currently, you were watched so closely by everyone in Hydra that you’d not even been able to contemplate a plan as to how to break him out. Until then, he was your priority, keeping him out of harm's way as much as possible.
Alexander Pierce had given you strict instructions to adhere to every single need that may affect or alter the soldier's performance as the ghostly assassin. At first, you just assumed it was to feed him, wash, cut his hair, make sure he was healthy and metal arm was working to its best ability. But the basic human need for the Winter Soldier ran deeper than that, causing your role as his doctor and carer to be blurred and something more developed.
The longer he was out of the ice, the more you would notice his increasing frustrations that couldn’t be erased with a simple afternoon in the gym or sparring with other guards. There were even days when no one could calm him down, his aggression so high that he had to be sedated if you were not available to talk to him.
For example, there was once a day when you were actually off of the unit, in your new flat, having just been granted the allowance to live there when Rumlow came knocking on your door. He only gave you the courtesy of putting on your shoes before gripping your upper arm and dragging you to the office.
When you arrived, the rooms were in disarray. Equipment smashed, blood and unconscious bodies trying to be aided too. It was a mess, and you were more nearly barging down the door to get to him, shouting for the guards to stand down and leave him to you. Yes, he was a highly trained assassin, but with the trust he held in you, there was no way he would intentionally harm you.
The underground room had no windows, which you were thankful for as they would have been destroyed in his rampage. You were only dressed in your joggers and a vest top, trainers already marked with red streaks from the puddles you’d walked through. It felt like your heart would escape your mouth with how erratic it was pounding in your chest as you tried to take in his appearance.
The shirt he had previously been wearing was now ripped to shreds on the floor. The tactical trousers had tears throughout but still seemed to be held together enough that he was indecent, and combat boots that gleamed with smudges where he’d been kicking objects and people. Each of his knuckles were busted in their own way. The flesh hand was cut, and the metal fist was red with other people's blood.
You’d not seen him become this erratic since he’d been out of his cryogenic state for too long, and his memories began to return to him as he questioned his entire existence. Whereas for this example, he’d only been defrosted for several days and shouldn’t have had any cognitive issues.
Stepping closer with your hands raised to show you meant no threat, you asked in a clear, concise voice, “Soldier? Where is the threat?”
His height seemed to tower over yours, more so than usual, as he turned his deathly glare towards you. The hulking muscles of his shoulders heaved with each breath he took as if he was out of breath, which was a rare occasion as he could run for miles and continue to breathe steadily, unaffected by the strenuous exercise. Your question was supposed to help identify what his issue was, hoping he’d find you being there to create a safe space for him, but the angry charge of his massive body had you flinching back in shock.
The warm hand of his wrapped around your throat, using the momentum of his steps to push you back up against the wall. Your hands remained up, even though you were itching to tear at his wrist to relieve some pressure. He wasn’t squeezing hard enough that you were struggling to breathe, but it was still uncomfortable and unnerving.
Your mind was working on overdrive, trying to think of a way to ease the stress he was going through. Your eyes searched over his body, starting with his head and face, but there were only minor scratches and grazes from the fights. Lower your eyes explore his arms and chest until they halted, seeing something that had never been through your consideration.
His tactical pants were tented, showing the outline of his hard-on, raging just as violently as the blue of his eyes. Was this the issue of his anger? The soldier shifted his stance, hand twitching towards his crotch like he was going to move himself to be more comfortable, but stopped as he watched you closely.
Alexander Pierce had once told you that whatever the Soldier wanted or needed, you were to give it to him to ensure that he was performing to his best abilities. You cursed to yourself quietly, unsure if this was even plausible or right to do. Of course, it wasn’t right to do. He was a prisoner in his own body, but you were his doctor, and you had a job to do.
“It’s okay. I know what will help you. I’ll show you how to get rid of the pain; I won’t touch you, I promise”.
From there, you were able to explain anatomy, the ache throbbing through his abdomen and how he could relieve himself. He did. Right there in front of you, his pants by his knees and cock in hand until he came on your shoes.
You didn’t so much as blink or flinch at the action. He didn’t understand that it wasn't appropriate to cum on someone's shoes or to masturbate in a somewhat public scenario. It calmed him down enough that you could push him back onto a chair and fix the injuries that were already mostly healed.
These situations only continued to escalate, which occurred more often than not. However, the Winter Soldier only touched himself when you were around, and you were unsure if it was because you made him feel safe or for other reasons that Rumlow liked to hiss in your ear, saying that the deadly assassin had a crush on his favourite doctor.
You blew it off as gossip and nasty rumours, unprofessional at most.
This only lasted for a few months before you noticed the changes in the Soldier, and it all came to a head one night as he turned up at your apartment after a mission. You hadn’t even told him your address, and he wasn’t due back from the mission for another 24 hours, but there he was, at the end of the bed, having snuck through the window as you were halfway through having some intimate time yourself.
Your fingers were between your legs, eyes closed, and your head tipped back, not covering your moans as you didn’t think you’d need to as you were living by yourself. The assassin watched, confusion causing his brows to furrow, head tilted to the side as his fists clenched.
The look on your face was one he’d never seen before, and he noticed the anatomy was different to his. Of course, he was aware that not everyone had the same genitals as his, but it hadn’t crossed his mind that it could be touched like this.
The only time you were aware of his presence was when the bed dipped, your eyes snapping open and legs closing as you released an almighty scream that caused the Soldier to flinch.
“Mine”, he muttered under his breath, grabbing your ankle and dragging you closer.
“What? Soldier, what are you doing here? When did you- please stop” he paused his attempts to drag you closer as he was half crawling over your body. You were trying to remain calm, but he was acting so possessive, and why was he even here? How did he get in?
“Mine”, he repeated above you again, eyes trained between your legs.
You were at a loss for words, feeling both confused and safe simultaneously, even with someone as dangerous as this. The night was one that definitely crossed the line for professionalism.
The Winter Soldier was so interested in your masturbation and different genitals that he practically begged you to continue, shouting mine and gazing at your intimate area until you continued.
You came, and then the Soldier unbuckled his belt and ejaculated over your stomach, and this was the turning point of the relationship. Your job now seemed to be a half doctor, half a sexual release. Masturbation escalated into hands in underwear until there was no point holding back the restraint, and the two of you were fucking.
It was challenging to wrap your head around, especially when the two of you were in the work environment, but if it was what he wanted and needed that you were more than happy to be face pushed into the wall, trousers and underwear by your ankles and cock shoving so far into your cunt that you saw stars.
The most significant issue was that, even though none of the workers commented on it, they all knew the sex was occurring. Mainly because the Winter Soldier didn’t seem to understand that this was supposed to be something that was for ‘behind closed doors’ and out of view of the guards and other doctors. To him, if he was to push you over the table and whisper “mine”, then this was enough warning that he wanted to fuck, even if you were unfathomably embarrassed that your coworkers had to watch you coming undone to the man they were all looking after.
The worst time had to have been when Alexander Pierce came strolling into the ‘jail’ they kept the Soldier in during his downtime. Multiple guards were surrounding him, and three doctors in lab coats were working tirelessly around the room. You’d been in there for hours. Warm, tired and ready to eat whatever take-out you could encounter on the drive home later that night.
With Pierces’ presence, however, your posture straightened, and you tried to remain as professional as possible. This was a feat easier said than done as The Soldier eyed you from across the room, staring with his unblinking glare. Eventually, he pushed past Pierce, the guards all raising their guns expecting a fight, but there was none to have as the metal fingers of his specially made hand eased into the front of your work trousers, plain underwear and pushed into your cunt.
“What are you doing?! Now is not the time and place- Ah fuck!”. There was nothing other than a hand over your mouth that could have stopped the moan pitching from your lips as his thumb circled your clit. You’d not been at all aroused, but he had learned enough about your body to know the exact way to stimulate your bundle of nerves and curl his fingers inside of you to stroke that beautiful spot that had you whimpering without any restraint.
As he pleasured you in front of all your colleagues, there was nothing you could do but painfully grip on to his metal forearm. He didn’t even smile or mutter a single word as he made you orgasm with a knee-buckling euphoria. It seemed he was just in the mood to hear your whines as he turned around and sat back in front of Pierce, who was looking between the two of you.
“It seems things have changed through here. I’m glad you have been able to … satisfy the Asset by any means necessary”.
You tried not to visibly cringe with the way he had worded it as you tried to straighten your clothes and continue with the work you had been completing before. Nothing further was thankfully said as he was given his next mission, and you were left to continue working for a further three hours with underwear that was utterly soaked due to his wandering fingers.

Summary: Some bullies take teasing a step too far.
Warnings: Stereotypical bullies, anger issues, bottling up emotions, violence
Notes: Papa/Pa= Steve, Dad/Dada = Bucky. No pairing. Reader is Steve and Bucky's adopted daughter.
Fem!reader
Word count: 1,364
Age 1-5
When you were born, 1939, Hydra got you. You underwent four years of experiments that gave you the gift of prophecy and enhanced physical strength. Random visions of the future came to you once or twice a week, but they were heralded by you losing consciousness.
Four years later, a group led by Captain America took down the lab you were being kept in. You formed a close father-daughter bond with the men who rescued you, James ‘Bucky’ Barnes and Steve Rogers. For two years you stayed with them as they continued fighting against the Axis Powers and formed the Howling Commandos.
It was then discovered that you had a severe heart defect. If left untreated, it would most likely kill you. On December 26th 1944, they placed you in a specially made freezing chamber in the hopes that future medical advances would make your condition treatable. While you were frozen, you still received visions.
Age 6
Decades later, you were unfrozen. You were technically in your 60’s, but by all accounts still a six-year-old. You lived with your adoptive Papa Steve, who ensured you got the medical treatments needed, and had a relatively normal childhood despite the out of the ordinary first six years. He told you that your Dad Bucky was gone, which you didn’t fully believe.
“But I saw him!” You protested.
“I know,” Steve replied, “We used to see him every day. Now we won’t get to see him again.”
“No!” You shouted, “I saw him doing things he hasn’t done yet!”
“Y/n/n,” Steve shushed, “This is a hard thing for both of us. Please stop trying to give me hope. He’s gone. That’s the end of it.”
When both of you had calmed down, Steve pulled out a little box.
“Kid?” He got your attention, “Do you remember what these are?”
“Yeah. They’re his dog tags.”
“Do you want to keep them?” He asked. You nodded in reply, and put them on. From that day forward you rarely took off your Dad’s tags.
Age 8
At school, you kept your head down, four formative years in a strict evil lab will make you very keen to follow the rules and not be noticed. Your increased strength made you afraid you would hurt someone, so you never fought back. Because of this, bullies targeted you. They were a few years older, and notorious all throughout your middle school.
One day they went a step too far by yanking your Dad’s dog tags right off your neck. The main guy, Kennith Reid, tossed them to Tyler, who tossed them to another boy. They went around and around the circle.
“Give them back.” You said evenly.
“What’re you gonna do?” Tyler asked, “Cry to your Papa? Who did you say he was, Captain America? I don’t believe it. I think you lied.”
“No.”
“Tyler,” Kennith said, catching the dog tags, “What do you think she’d do if we started breaking up this little chain?”
“Don’t.”
“Oh Kennie, is she getting mad?”
“I think so T.” Kennith said, and he broke off a few inches of the chain. You stood up, and started to take off your hoodie.
“Why are you taking off your stupid frog hoodie?” Tyler jeered.
“I don’t want to get your blood on it.” Removing your hoodie revealed how much that Hydra had influenced you. Muscles far beyond what any teenager had, much less an eight-year-old like yourself.
Wordlessly, you swung at him. It connected, hard. His nose splintered and he fell to the ground. Kennith’s pals had a split second of panic, as the blood drained from their faces in fear, but you didn’t stop. You went after every single one of them, being very careful not to injure them too badly. Kennith’s nose was the worst one.
He was the ringleader, so he deserved it.
A few moments later, they were all sufficiently beaten up, you took back your Dad’s dog tags, and knelt down next to them.
“You’re never going to pick on anyone again, understood?”
“Ye - yeah,” He hastily said, “Got it.  Mhm. 100%. We won’t bully you.”
“No. You won’t bully anyone. Not me. Not Jess, not Caroline, not Xavier. None of us. Are we clear?”
“Crystal.”
Obviously, parents were called. Your Papa was probably off on some mission, although he said he’d be back today. It didn’t matter. If he wasn’t available Auntie Nat would step in. You sat on one side of the table, waiting for someone to join you. Your new principal, who had recently replaced a beloved one, sat across from you. Her name was Ms. Katz.
“Ms. Y/l/n,” Your principal said after waiting for ten minutes, “Do you know your mother’s phone number?”
“With all due respect, Ms. Katz” You said, “She’s dead.”
“Oh,” She inhaled, “I see.”
“My aunt should be joining us soon.” Right on cue Ms. Romanoff waltzed in.
“Thank you for waiting,” She began, “I came as soon as I could.”
“No problem, thank you for joining us.” Ms. Katz said, “You are here because Y/n has exhibited some concerning behavior. She repeatedly hit her peers, resulting in one receiving a broken nose.”
“That doesn’t sound like her. Have you asked her why she did it?” Nat asked.
“This school has a Zero-Tolerance Policy for physical violence or bullying of any sort, no matter the reason.” Ms. Katz replied, “So we didn’t need to ask.”
“That sounds like a recipe for more violence.” Nat said.
“We’re not here to debate policy.” Ms. Katz said, “She will be receiving a two week suspension, and I’m afraid this will go on her permanent record.”
“Oh no.” Was your deadpan response. “Can’t let anyone know I retaliated when provoked. Woe is me.”
Nat flashed you a proud smile, and continued.
“Y/n, I haven’t yet gotten to hear your perspective. I think there’s a little more to it than simply whacking a kid.”
“I don’t believe that’s a good use of our time togeth-” Ms. Katz began, and was shortly cut off.
“No,” Nat said, “Let her talk. I need to know what happened before I decide what to do.”
“I just want you to know we’re not reconsidering the suspension.”
“Fine by me. Continue, Y/n.”
“They snagged Dad’s dog tags off my neck. I told them to give them back. They didn’t. This was the final straw. For the past two years I’ve endured their teasing, and so have countless others. I didn’t beat them up just to get the tags back, I did it to win this fight, and the next ones too. Now they’ll leave me alone, and the others, too.”
“Ms. Katz,” Nat turned to your principal, “I would just like to thank you. Y/n and I will enjoy these next two weeks off. I want you to know that she will be receiving no punishment at home.”
The intercom on Ms. Katz’s desk buzzed.
“There’s someone here to see y-”
“Tell them to wait.” She cut them off, “Very well then. I also wanted to address her chronic lying.”
“Tell me more.”
“She insists her family is full of superheroes and spies.” She pulled out a drawing, “Here, she even drew this when we were supposed to be making family portraits.” The drawing was of you, Auntie Nat, your Dad, your Papa, Uncles Tony, Thor, Bruce, and Clint, the whole crew. After a pause, Auntie Nat nodded.
“This is just about right.” She smiled, “My hair used to be wavy, if that’s what you’re concerned about.”
“No,” Ms. Katz sighed, “She insists she lives with the Avengers! Don’t you see? She strings up wild stories about fighting Nazis and being frozen in a time capsule!”
“They’re true.” Nat’s phone buzzed. “And I can prove it. Tell your receptionist to let in the other visitor.”
Ms. Katz complied, the door opened, and Steve walked in. She stared agape for a moment, before regaining composure.
“That… That will be all, thank you.”
“Have you been reading Ender’s Game again?” Auntie Nat asked on the ride back to Steve’s apartment.
“Maybe…” You grinned, “Okay yeah.”
“Thought so, that speech sounded a bit familiar.”

About the Marine dad au, what about Roger adopting Luffy?
Like, he never got sick and met some random kid who reminded Roger of himself and decided that Luffy was his now.
OHOHOHOKAY
Roger never gets sick, so he saw the Man Made Horrors Beyond Comprehension when the marines got a whiff of Roger having a child and they killed all those people. He ends up separating from the majority of his crew to go to the east blue with Rouge and try raising Ace where it's quiet and he can learn to walk before he has to run (he maybe takes Buggy and Shanks with him since they won't be noted missing by enemies, and hops over to Somewhere Else every few months so there are still Pirate King Sightings.)
Ace is about five when Luffy is born because he was born within reason, and Luffy spends his first year in [REDACTED] so no one finds him. Roger sees an RD banner in the east blue and since Garp's Boy has only recently come to the Espionage game, he tried pulling a prank by breaking into the ship to steal something Dragon would want back.Because Roger is a goblin At Best.
He finds the Absolute Best thing for this - Luffy, left in a bassinet in an unguarded room by himself (really was this revolutionary brat new?) just minding his own business gumming on a blanket. Roger takes the baby with the plan of returning him as quickly as Dragon can find a pirate king not actively hiding from him. Rouge thinks it's hilarious, Ace just wants to hold the baby, Buggy thinks it's kind of cruel and Shanks isn't sure what's going on.
Except. Roger is just chilling for a while, holding the baby in broad daylight, waiting for some angry emo Garp to swoop in with all the magician skills he learned to spite Garp (Garp HATES magicians - long story) to challenge the pirate king to a fight - or maybe even try to steal the baby from him. But the sun starts to set and he wanders back to the dock because maybe Dragon just wants familiar ground and some allies with him to attack - a smart move, if risky in the unamusing way. And the boat is gone.
He could swear it was right there but it was Gone and there was a baby snoozing against his chest and his father just dipped without a word. He snorts to himself, marching over to the Oro Jackson, and calling up to his dear sweet partner, who just put Ace to bed.
"My love!" He calls, and she pokes her head down to look at him from the large ship. "I think I've scavenged my most interesting treasure yet!"
She accepts it easily, just lowering a ladder. "I found out how to carry Ace up a ladder, your turn." and the second Roger's boots touched the deck of his ship (after many, many minutes of trying to maneuver up a rope ladder with one hand and only partial use of one of his legs while the love of his life laughed at him) Luffy was his son, Rouge's boy, Ace's, Shanks' and Buggy's baby brother all at once.

biography. (tws for neglect, parental abandonment, poverty)
Born in Tower Hamlets (a very poor area of London) in 1997.
Robbie’s parents were both barely nineteen when he was born, and adults in name only.
After six months his father realised he wasn’t particularly suited to family life, and disappeared off into the great blue yonder, never to be seen again.
Robbie’s mother couldn’t cope alone. With no support system behind her, an infant son to raise and no money to speak of, the odds were stacked against her. She spent a lot of time away from Robbie, ostensibly trying to cobble together the rent for the derelict flat they shared, but typically going out in pursuit of her lost youth.
The police finally came when Robbie was five. A neighbour reported seeing him hanging around the tower block they lived in at all hours of the day and night, never at school and seemingly unsupervised.
He was taken into care that same day, and hasn’t had any contact with either of his parents since.
He was fostered a few times in his early days in the system, but never for longer than a few months, and he always ended up right back at the group home. He was troubled, and he made trouble wherever he went.
In spite of this, he was obviously a clever boy, but categorically refused to try at school. He learned to read far later than his peers, but when he did, he scoured every book in the care home twice over.
Robbie started stealing as early as ten. First little things, sweets and magazines from the corner shop, but bigger when he realised he could get away with it. Some of the stuff he stole he’d resell to his peers on the playground, and then on street corners and down alleys as he got older.
Once you reach a certain age, it’s practically a given that nobody’s going to adopt you. But that was fine with Robbie, he didn’t need or want new parents, he was fine by himself.
He finally left care at eighteen, with a job as a waiter and a room at a halfway house until something more permanent could be arranged.
To start with, he really did try going straight, becoming an upstanding member of society, but what was the point? You broke your back all day for nothing, while other people felt entitled to treat you like a dog.
He was back to his old tricks in less than a year. He left the halfway house and his terrible job and didn’t look back, calling the city of London in its entirety his home, and robbing strangers to get by. He’s always said that possession is a matter of perspective, and it seemed that way now more than ever.
He’s been on the Jolly Rogers’ books (such as they are) for about five years. He’s very good at what he does, but he tries to keep his head down as much as possible - after all, what kind of thief likes to draw attention to themselves?
other things.
Robbie is passionate about urban exploration, and knows the best ways into almost every abandoned building in London. It's come in handy more than once.
When it comes to his work, there's no better opportunity to pick an unsuspecting idiot's pockets than at a tube station during rush hour. With nearly three hundred of them across six zones, he's spoilt for choice, and rarely has to hit up the same place twice in quick succession.
He hasn't had a fixed address since he was eighteen, though he can usually find somewhere to get his head down for a night or two - whether it's a friend's floor, the back of a city bus, or the bed of a one night stand, Robbie has developed a knack for being able to fall asleep anywhere.
Robbie smokes like a chimney, and thinks vaping is genuinely one of the most embarrassing things a person can do.
All his worldly possessions fit into one duffel bag. Sentimentality is a luxury.
The cinema is his happy place, and he does his best to see as many new releases as possible, regardless of what the film is about or what the reviews are like. His favourite film of the last year was Everything, Everywhere, All At Once, which he actually paid to see a second time.
As of writing this, Robbie has never been in love. Any relationship he’s been in (though “relationship” is a strong word to describe Robbie’s fleeting entanglements) has been based on what the other person can do for him, rather than any reciprocated feelings on his part. Men like him aren’t made for soft things, and if the dynamic starts trending that way, he’s quick to nip it in the bud.

Interview: Kristen Stewart & Jesse Eisenberg from Adventureland
Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart are two of the finest young actors in Hollywood. Eisenberg has appeared in Roger Dodger, The Emperor’s Club, Cursed, The Hunting Party and his break-out movie, The Squid and the Whale, a well-reviewed independent drama with Laura Linney and Jeff Daniels. Stewart, meanwhile, first rose to international prominence starring opposite Jodie Foster in Panic Room. She has since starred in Cold Creek Manor, Zathura, Fierce People, In the Land of Women, Into the Wild and the global smash Twilight. In Adventureland Stewart stars as Em Lewin, the first girl to steal the heart of the film’s main protagonist, James Brennan, played by Eisenberg. They spark on screen and in real life, encouraging each other throughout the interview…
What was it about Adventureland that appealed to you?
Jesse Eisenberg: I think that Kristen and I were just saying the characters are so well rounded. It’s rare that a movie like this that can come out in many theaters and be a movie that a lot of people go to, with characters that are so richly drawn and so honestly put together.
Neither of you will have memories from the ’80s. Was it fun to go back and explore the era?
Jesse Eisenberg: Yeah, it was interesting to see. I was born in 1983 and so the ’80s were done by the time I grew up a little. But I did have this like romanticized notion of what the ’80s were. I mean, they weren’t romantic for me, but I had this notion of a simpler time. I guess also it was a selfish time, right? It was called the Me generation or the Me decade or something. I do have like some vivid memories of what the aesthetic was of the ’80s, so it was interesting to see that from the perspective of an adult. And I really liked it. I did actually like two other movies that take place in the same year – or ’86 or ’87, and so yeah, I kind of I do like the period. It’s nice also there were no cell phones!
Kristen Stewart: And who knows if the story actually could have taken place without that, because at least my aspect of the story is reliant on the fact that she can be a different person depending on who she’s with, and she can’t always be contacted. She’s not doing a Facebook depicting every emotion that she is going through. So she can get from people what she needs and she can sort of reinvent herself, which people do naturally. It’s not like she is being fake, it’s just that she has different aspects that she can show different people. I feel like nowadays everyone perceives you the same way. You can’t even have a private life away from your family; it’s like everything is very hands-on!
Is this school of comedy something that really appeals to both?
Jesse Eisenberg: Yeah I haven’t really seen a lot of them but whenever they’re making something that’s funny, if it’s derived from the characters rather than just from something happening to the characters. I guess that’s the ideal version of what a comedy is.
Kristen Stewart: You feel for the person telling the joke and you’re not just watching a comedian arbitrarily be funny. The characters are actually more like people that you’ve gotten to know and that you care about and now they’re being funny. You just laugh harder at your friends.
Jesse, knowing that you are playing the director in his younger life, does that put extra responsibility on you? You did something similar in The Squid and the Whale…
Jesse Eisenberg: In Adventureland, the story is fictionalized a little bit. But no, if anything, it was really nice and wonderful to have Greg there to discuss all of the situations. It just meant that the script had a more personal quality to it. You could just tell by reading it once that it came from something more real than most scripts that you read. It felt more authentic. All the characters did.
Does Greg have mannerisms that you were trying to pick up on?
Jesse Eisenberg: Yeah, Greg is extremely, extremely earnest. He’s extremely careful about what he says. It’s all in the script. It’s all self-explanatory; if you just read the script, you’d probably know something about him, even before you met him. But that’s all that all comes from him, this over explaining, this very sincere quality.
Kristen, did Greg tell you about any of the people your character was based on?
Kristen Stewart: I think she was based on a compilation of girlfriends of his from the past. Like a melding of a couple of different people – failed relationships with girls that were kind of damaged, but not a specific person. So it wasn’t like one relationship that he had. This was just the movie.
Did you meet anyone like that that when you were growing up and did you have any similar experience?
Kristen Stewart: No, I never met a terribly introverted damaged girl at a theme park in the ’80s [laughs]. But I related to her because I like characters that are written, that are whole, that don’t feel it’s easy to tell what would be right and wrong and how they would feel about something. I’m not like the girl in the movie; she’s a real person. So her – I got all my inspiration from her. I could imagine what it would be like to not like yourself very much and not have a mom and not have a dad to reassure you and sort of be kicking it alone. Also to feel like you’re sort of smarter than everybody but no one gets it. I get all that, and then the masochistic aspects girls are good at. I can relate on that level.
But that was more of a rebellious thing with that character…
Kristen Stewart: Yeah, I think that was more about like her dad getting to know that she was actually a real person and not just like a little girl – that your little girl is going to grow up into a woman that does things on her own, who makes her own personal choices that wouldn’t necessarily coincide with his. It was as if she’s a grown up now, and that’s hard for a dad to deal with.
The music is so important to the film, but was that just ancient history to you?
Jesse Eisenberg: Lou Reed is still very still popular now. I don’t know if anybody else in the movie is still kind of popular now, but I loved Lou Reed for a while. I was so happy to see that he would be included in the movie – he was even in the script obviously because it’s part of the plot. I didn’t really know that much of the music, but Greg had made us like some mixed CDs of the songs from the movie. I loved all the ones that the characters are supposed to love.
Kristen Stewart: I really like Lou Reed. I like a lot of the sort of alternative music. I’m not to into like Rock Me, Amadeus, though [laughs].
So what’s the worst summer job that you ever had?
Kristen Stewart: I’ve never had one. I’ve done sort of funky movies over summers. And once I didn’t like a production designer, if that counts as a bad job! [laughs]
Jesse Eisenberg: Yeah, I’ve never worked during the summer. I take summers off. [laughs]
What was the most enjoyable scene that the two of you shot together?
Jesse Eisenberg: I was going to say the bumper cars, but actually, it wasn’t fun at all. It just seemed like something you could say in an interview! Actually, acting in bumper cars is terrible, because the really only way to film it and get a close up is to literally mount the camera – this heavy thing on the car and it’s just the worst because you can’t act at all with a thing on the car.
Was there anything fun about shooting on the actual theme park?
Jesse Eisenberg: No, I think the insurance didn’t cover us. We didn’t go on any of the rides until the shoot ended, for fear of us dying!
Kristen Stewart: Yeah, we weren’t allowed to go on the rides until the end, and then they stuck us on the most dangerous rickety wooden old ride that they had at the park. That was the one ride that we got to ride. And we did it like 15 times. It’s especially funny though to see Jesse on a ride because his enthusiasm is very restrained. He’s like, ‘Oh yes, that was very fun’ [laughs].
Jesse Eisenberg: [Laughing] I agree, that was enjoyable!
Kristen, what are you looking forward to in the next movie in the Twilight series, New Moon?
Kristen Stewart: I’m looking forward to all aspects of the movie. A lot more is introduced, like the world of the werewolves comes alive, and the second movie is much more quaint. Edward leaves her, which is interesting, considering the first movie is based entirely on their devotion to each other. So to see them cope without each other and to see this character, Jacob, who is supposed to represent light and warmth. He pulls her out of a rut that’s seemingly impossible. And it’s really tragic. There is actually a lot more to work with. The first one was good because it was ultimate love and abandon, and that’s good, but it’s also kind of one note. Now it’s a different story.
Has life changed drastically? Are you just aware of being watched all the time?
Kristen Stewart: Not on a day-to-day basis, it’s only like at press junkets and things like this that you have to watch what you say. But really people don’t really recognize me often. I think I just look different in person or something. I’m also not very approachable, and maybe they’re just like ‘Ooohhh, she’s scary!’ [laughs]
Has that film changed your life?
KS: I don’t have a grand plan. I don’t scope things out. I don’t look at a project and how it relates to others. It’s not like, ‘Oh this is the next step and this is probably smart for me.’ Adventureland, for example, was something that I wanted to do because the characters were easy to invest in. It’s just there to be played. They played like real people – you feel responsible for someone that you feel will die right on the page unless you bring them to life. Whenever you feel that, it is something worthwhile. But with regard to Twilight, it’s made it easier to do things that I really like, things that like an independent movie that nobody would normally see. Now it’s like, ‘Oh let’s go see Bella in this stripper movie; it’ll be crazy!’ [Laughs]
Presumably you’re referring to Welcome to the Rileys…
Kristen Stewart: Yeah, with James Gandolfini and Melissa Leo, who is just incredible. It was the most fruitful life-changing experience on a movie that I’ve ever had. It was just the hardest subject matter I’ve ever had to deal with. I play a very broken young girl who is a runaway. She’s a street kid. She’s working in a strip club and James Gandolfini’s character is just as sort of dead inside and they wake each other up. It’s really good.
Jesse, what are you working on next?
Jesse Eisenberg: I’m doing a movie in Georgia. I play a very broken young girl who is a runaway [laughs]. No, it’s called Zombieland. So look out for it. I am not a zombie in the film though – I’m running from them!

"Um... yes?" You asked as you brought down the hand which was holding out a twenty dollar bill - since you thought it was the pizza you've been waiting for, for like the past half an hour, and not a blond, six feet and some inches, tall super soldier.
"Hi... doll," he smiled.
"My name's Y/N," you corrected him as you frowned, so fed up of men undermining you by calling you such 'sweet' nicknames. You knew Captain Rogers wasn't like that, but still you couldn't have him getting any ideas.
"Right," he cleared his throat as he repeated your name. "Sorry," he said with a toothy grin, which almost made your heart melt.
"How did you get my address, Captain?"
"Tony gave it to me. I would've asked you at work... but I wanted to do this the right way."
"Do what?" you quirked a brow.
"Um, I maybe people aren't as formal nowadays," he sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck, "But I can't really change who I am... not so late in life anyway," he cringed as he realised he was pretty rambling then, taking a deep breath he gathered enough courage, "I wanted to ask you to come with me, as my date, to the valentines party this Sunday."
You hummed at that, considering it because damn if Rogers wasn't convincing. Even when he wasn't as authoritative and dominating as he is when he puts on the suit.
It would be nice to be courted and treated nicely, and to not have to put up with the shit most men try to pull with you, you were sure Rogers would show you the time of your life. Besides, only an idiot would say no to him.
"No." You said with a finality that left no room for debate. "Is that all?"
"Uh... I... yes..." he stammered, not exactly prepared to be turned down so bluntly. "Can I ask why?"
"I don't shit where I eat."
"What?" his eyebrows cutely scrunching up.
You just knew you must've touched a nerve with your crass language. Tony, your boss, had told you about Cap and his 'language' incident.
"I don't date people at work... it can get complicated," you explained as he nodded.
It wasn't a complete lie. You didn't want to be known as the 'easy' girl or have others gossip about you. But that would be a sacrifice you'd willing make for someone like Steve. Who'd dare make fun of the Captains girl anyway?
You had been smitten with him from the moment you saw him, learning about his bravery and sacrifice as a kid you looked upto him and respected him, but when you met him in real life... you were a complete goner. Your stomach did somersaults every time he touched you, or hell even looked your way.
You tried your best to flirt, which was basically you stuttering and trying to make small talk whenever you had a chance to talk to him. Since he was born almost a century ago he would probably be offended if you were the one to make the first move.
You continued your back and forth for weeks before he told you about her. That he'll be visiting her over the weekend. You simply nodded, having a vague idea of who Peggy Carter was but not of what she went to Steve.
After some research you found out that she was an old flame of his, someone he couldn't marry and build a life with because he was frozen for decades. Upon seeing her many qualifications, and just how freaking brilliant she was, you knew one thing.
You may not be as smart as her, but you knew that you could never measure upto a woman that incredible. Someone Steve still visits after all these years. You were already afraid that he was out of your league but now you were sure of it.
"Did I do something wrong?" he wanted to know.
"What do you mean?"
"Well," he shoved his hands in his pockets, his bottom lip jutting out in a pout, "It's just that you used to talk to me all the time... and now it seems as if you're ignoring me. Is it because of something I did? Whatever it is I never meant to hurt you," he swore.
You sighed. "It's nothing you did, really. I just realized how incompatible we are. I hope you find the one you're looking for, someone who'll make you happy and give you the world. It just won't be me."
You didn't let him say anything closing your door instantly as you kept your tears at bay.
Tumblr media
At the valentines party
"Cap," Tony said, slapping a hand on Steve's shoulder, "I thought you'd have her on your arm tonight. What happened?"
Referring to his assistant. He wanted to play cupid this once, since it was the season of love, he wanted to see his idiot friends happy. He was sure you both would be disgustingly smooching and all cute at the party. But not only had you both shown up separately, you seemed to be actively ignoring Steve.
"She uh... rejected me," he said, looking down into his glass of whiskey. It didn't do much for him but it helped him blend in.
"Ouch," Tony winced, "I was sure she would go for you. But I guess I have been wrong before," he shrugged.
"Really?"
"Yeah. She goes all heart eyes whenever you're around. But I guess that's nothing unique since that's just how most women act around you," he scoffed. "You should read all the love letters you got today. I was going through them, you have quite a passionate fanbase of people who want to... what was it..." he pretended to think hard about it. "Yes, 'ride your bicep', I don't understand the physics of how on earth that would work, but I am intrigued."
"Tony," Steve rolled his eyes as he always does when he's around the billionaire. "I don't really care about all of them... they don't know me. I only care about her and I don't know why she said no, but there's nothing I can do about it."
"Whoa, you're accepting defeat so soon? Where's that I-can-do-this-all-day attitude?"
"This isn't a war, Tony. If she doesn't see me that way... then there isn't much I could do."
"Maybe she's just playing hard to get. There's absolutely no way to really know what goes on in womens heads, Rogers. They're so smart and sneaky... it's kinda scary actually."
"I don't think she'd play games..."
Tony had gotten distracted pretty quickly and left Steve alone to pout and only appreciate your beauty from afar. You had worn a pink dress with red hearts on it, and for some reason, you got more beautiful every time he looked at you.
"Hello."
He jerked when he heard the foreign voice, looking at the blonde woman next to him, with her hand out, he shook it just to be polite.
"I'm Crystal," she smiled, flashing her sparkly white teeth.
"I'm Steve."
"Of course I know who you are!" she laughed, "You're Captain America, everyone knows you," she playfully hot his bicep before squeezing it, "Oh my... you must work out a lot."
"Uh... yeah..." he nodded. He could never get used to how people perceived him so differently.
"There is something I need to know really bad," Crystal blinked as she looked up at him, "Do you wear underwear in those suits? They seem really tight, wouldn't it be uncomfortable?"
"Oh, um... we just sort of..."
Tumblr media
You had never looked at yourself as a jealous person. Maybe things were different when it came to Steve... he was a pretty special guy.
When you looked at him, talking to some girl, dancing with her, laughing and having fun with her, it was as if you were on fire from simmering rage, at the same time you could feel your heart breaking in a million pieces.
You knew it was wrong. You had no claim to him, he can do whatever he wants. If you said no to him then it makes perfect sense that he seeked out someone else.
You just had to get away for some fresh air, so you wouldn't abandon all class and pull the girls hair and drag her away from your Steve.
You yelped when you heard him call out your name.
Looking over your shoulder you saw him staring at you, his brows scrunched up, he looked so worried. But why?
"What're you doing here? You'll catch a cold, doll," he takes off his blazer, putting it over your shoulders and then groaning when he realised his slip up.
"Right, sorry, old habits die hard. I won't call you that again, I promise," he said, crossing his finger over his heart.
"No... I think it's kinda sweet. No ones ever had such an endearing petname for me. I do like it."
"Oh," he frowned, "it's just that you said you didn't."
Tony, of all the people in the whole universe, was right. There was no understanding women.
"I guess I lied..."
"Why?"
"Um..." You were at a loss of words and nervous. Steve wouldn't tolerate lies, and you didn't want him to hate you. "It was easier to do that then tell you the truth."
"What's the truth?"
"I do like you... a lot. But I don't want to live in someone else's shadow. And I just think the whole thing would end in a disaster..."
"What're you talking about, Y/N?"
"Peggy. Your first and only love. I can't measure upto her, not in my wildest dreams, there's no use trying."
"Why would you have to measure upto Peggy?"
You opened your mouth to answer, but couldn't really come up with an answer. "Why wouldn't I?"
"I did have feelings for her, but that was a long time ago. I'm happy she lived her life, it just wasn't meant to be."
"So, you're not still in love with her?"
"No," he shook his head, "I wouldn't have asked you out if I was."
"Well, what about Crystal? You were practically glued to her the entire evening!" you huffed as you stomped your foot. Mad at your own stupidity. You could've simply told him the truth and asked for a straight answer. "I have to warn you, she had was pretty crazy in the last season."
"Last season?"
"Mm-hm, the last season of her reality show, I've seen all eight seasons. Maybe they just amp up the drama, maybe she isn't actually crazy, I wouldn't know," you shrugged.
"Doll," he smirked, circling a hand around your waist and pulling you into him, "are you jealous?"
"I am not!" you gasped, looking away from his eyes as you felt your cheeks heat up.
"I don't want anyone but you. Why would I? You're goddamn perfect. And... I want you to be my girl."
"I guess I don't really have a reason to say no now..." you murmured, your face still flustered as you played with the buttons on his shirt before he tilted your chin up to make you look at him, placing his lips over yours in the most tender of kisses.
Tumblr media
"Got the job done, Tones... I'm pretty sure I saw him go after her, I have to say though, you look at Captain America, and you really don't expect him to be that awkward..." Crystal said as she sipped on her gin and tonic. "You owe me."
Tony only hummed, not too happy about being indebted to someone, but you both needed a necessary push in the right direction.

Date: October 3rd 2024
Wakanda was always calm when Steve went, the people who lived there just seemed to understand the ways of life. There was never a catcall or fight in an alley, people greeted each other with kindness and a soft bow, Steve always copied but felt like he was too stiff when he did so. He found he walked with his back a little straighter and his chin a little higher, he felt unstoppable in the warm climate, filled with power and generosity.
Natasha on the other hand hated Wakanda, not because of the people but for the same reason as Steve; it was too peaceful. She’d always get the dirtiest looks when trying to explain her case, no one seemed to understand the concept of ‘too much comfort is uncomfortable’. She ran to Bucky once after a moment and asked him why he liked it so much, she thought he off all people would hate comfort, he’d always be one to sleep on the floor because the mattress would feel like it was swallowing him. He just shook his head and shrugged, he’d never tell anyone why; Nat found out he never even told you.
Natasha had been trained to trust no one other than yourself, but after escaping the Red Room she questioned the one in the mirror all too often. People would smile and while Steve smiled and waved Natasha thought of ulterior motives, why were they smiling to them and not the people slightly behind them? but then they’d smile to the people behind Natasha and she’d question if it was to cover themselves. The welcoming's to almost everywhere felt weird, she wanted to break in or have to fake her way to what she wanted, having doors opened for her felt like a slap in the face for all the things she’s done for those years before.
“God, gives me the creeps,” Natasha faked a shiver, Steve just rolled his eyes. They were walking in the palace now, T’Challa would be waiting for them in Shuri’s tech room.
Apparently Shuri had been wanting to try a new type of cuff, one made of- obviously -vibranium that tightens at a lie. There were little needles that poke into the culprit's nervous system, it picks up on someone’s sign that they are lying and tightens when the little pins are triggered. If someone's breath picked up or heart rate doubled, it would squeeze a little bit more until their hands were blue. Nat thought it was amazing when she heard it over the phone, her mind was picturing it the entire flight over.
Steve had been thinking about Bucky, Steve was well aware of Bucky’s deep connection to you. You’d been dating for over a year and it was love at first sight (then Bucky quietly loving you from the other side of the room), Bucky was never one to fall for someone, he’d never have the confidence in himself that he’d be here for too long. But it was the little things Bucky began to do that made Steve appreciate you even more. He’d watch from his spot on the kitchen counter, quietly sipping coffee and reading the paper, which wasn’t actually paper because it was on his phone, while glancing over every so often to see you and Bucky in your own little world, both giggling at something. There's this moment for Bucky when he’d just look at you, Steve had seen it happen so often, like Bucky was taking a step back and realizing he had someone who loved him unconditionally. The laugh would die down and Bucky would whisper something, it would alway be along the lines of ‘thank you’ but it could change. He’d sometimes do it with Steve as well, both you and Steve would say the same thing, ‘no need to thank me, but you’re welcome’ because that’s what Bucky liked best.
You were just an agent when you arrived, nothing more. Slowly you had gotten to know who everyone was by going out of your way to give out cookies to everyone who walked by you, it was a little thing Bucky seemed to really enjoy. After your talents were discovered from past jobs you were moved to a spy, you’d used to work for a private firm where they’d track down people who launder money, you’d have to get so much evidence it often led you to get jobs at mattress stores or random shops. With that and a lifeguard certification- that you got when you were a teen- under your belt you were perfect to be an agent, Fury introduced you to Bucky for combat training because Bucky needed to learn how to work with others; Steve actually told Fury to give Bucky the assignment.
You’d spar everyday and the both of you would get into it. There would be times where you wouldn’t talk to each other for the rest of the day because the other cheated. Everyone would laugh but you’d take it very seriously, Bucky would always say you weren’t strong enough to go out into the field, so you lifted weights. He’d say you weren’t fast enough, then he’d see you sprinting on the treadmill a day later.
Steve knew you were good for Bucky when you were about to start dating, it was at that part where you were going on dates but you weren’t dating. With all the things Bucky had criticized you on, you flipped it on him with one simple task: keep your fiddle-leaf fig plant alive. It would’ve taken Bucky one google search to find out that 61% of people can’t keep this house plant alive, it’s the hardest one to take care of. It was a metaphor of sorts, for you and for your relationship.
It wasn’t a surprise to find it dead when you got home, Steve came to you with his shoulders slumped. Apparently Bucky had been crying for three days straight because he killed your plant and he thought you’d dump him because of it. It was the weird feelings when Steve saw you start to laugh, this was his best friend who was crying of guilt and you were laughing, he’d wanted to punch you square in the jaw.
“What’s so funny?” he asked way too harshly.
“Oh nothing…” you wiped the tear that had fallen.
“Baby, I’m so sorry!” Bucky had left his room and came running to you, his face was red and his eyes were barely open from how puffy they were. He quickly pulled you in for a hug, “I messed up your plant, I’m sorry.”
Steve was getting redder and redder the more you laughed, “what’s so fucking funny, huh?” Steve boomed, he was getting protective.
You had dropped the act then, both of them were very emotional at the moment and laughing wouldn’t be the best choice of action. “Don’t worry, Bucky,” you soothed him, “you weren’t supposed to keep alive.”
“What?” he pulled away and sniffled, “but you asked me to-”
“To try,” you paused with emphasis, “and keep one of the hardest plants to keep alive, alive.” you smiled, “I was proud that I had kept it alive for as long as I did, but I needed to see what you would do with something like this.”
“Why?” Steve asked for Bucky, still very protective.
“Did you buy a new one and hope I didn’t notice?” You asked, Bucky shook his head no. “did you get mad at me because I gave you a stupid chore?” He also said no to that. “Did you make Wanda keep it alive with her powers?” all these options ran through Bucky’s head and he didn’t even think of them, “you put so much effort into this, and even if you did fail you still cared a lot, that’s all I ever want. I want this relationship to work and if you run at the first sign of adversity then this won’t work, but you buckle down and keep pushing, and if it doesn’t work? Then I know you actually cared, and you tried. That’s all.”
“You’re a keeper.,” Steve said before walking away and giving them space to catch up.
Nat waved a hand in front of Steve’s face, and it turns out he’d been staring at T’Challa for a while while he was talking. They had walked the entire way and Steve just stared at the ground with a blank expression, he needed to look out for you in order to keep Bucky sane.
“S-sorry, I zoned out.” Steve straightened his posture a bit, hands on hips and shoulders rolled back.
“No worries, captain Rogers.” T’Challa spoke calm as ever, “I have the criminals in the room, they have the new tech that’s already set up, my sister wanted to set it up.” T’Challa opened one arm and guided them to the secret room where two men sat with their hands cuffed and on their laps. “Neither of them have any record of being born, probably a fake identity.” The king linked arms with Shuri and walked out of the small room.
Seeing how grand and futuristic Shuri’s lab was made it shocking to be in a normal interrogation cell, two rusty chairs that were occupied and no table. Steve looked to see the single light that hung from the ceiling, it wasn’t a soft yellow like the one’s at the Avenger building but purple, vibranium always casted a purple/blue hue.
“Where are you from?” Steve asked.
“Iceland.” the one on Steve’s left answered.
“Is Hydra now stationed in Iceland?” Nat cut in and asked.
“One station, there’s many.” The same man on the left kept talking, the other one had his head all the way down with his forehead touching his knees.
Steve leaned up against the wall, “you attacked Princes Shuri, why?”
“Because she is the one that made us start from the very beginning, she's the one that erased the trigger words from your friend and our weapon.” He snarled, “She needed to pay for what she did, we should have known Wakanda was the hardest place to attack, we’d need a Winter Soldier for that.” A smirk grew from the right side of his mouth.
“What are you smiling about?” Nat pressed, she walked closer.
“Oh, nothing- ow!” the handcuffs tightened, his breathing rate doubled as he tried to ride out the initial shock.
“Tell us!” Steve smashed the wall, causing a dent to grow from it.
“Fine…” the man adjusted, “once we found out we’d never get our Winter Soldier back we quickly moved on, no one can break Wakanda’s tech, it’s impossible.” The man sighed and looked off, “so we chose to start again, make a new way, create a new trial. It’s safe to say we did.” he took a deep breath and leaded back against his chair, his fingertips were beginning to turn purple, it was difficult to see with the purple hue of the room. “When we attacked your building we didn’t want Barnes, we wanted someone, anyone. This girl was the closest to us, and it seemed to be the closest to Barnes, am I right?” he quizzed, seemed to be genuinely wondering. “She’d wake up and forget where she is, normally she’d pat the ground beside her and call out for a man named Bucky, that’s Barnes. It was the perfect choice, completely on a whim.” He looked at Nat, “she got her confidence from you, the entire time we were slowly poisoning her she completely believed she was here for ransom, it was funny to see her face when he told her what we did to her, how we now control her. The look on her face when we asked who wiped Barnes’ trigger words… She spit them out but her face was full of fear, her voice and thoughts weren’t her own.”
“Why would you tell us all of this?” Steve asked.
“I know I will die,” the cuffs didn’t tighten, “and my friend is already dead, I’d like to go with a bullet and not torture.” He looked up to them. “I think my father has passed, he worked for Hydra and I’d like to see him, to ask for forgiveness.”
Natasha pushed back the other man who hadn’t spoken a word to find his hands blackened and completely dead, the tightness had cut off all circulation. Right near the edge of the cuff and on the man’s skin was starting to split, there was no blood to leak out of the cut because there wasn’t blood in the veins, it was slowly falling and peeling away.
“You tortured my friend- two of them actually!” Steve screamed, “I hope to god you die slowly.” Steve lifted his gun to the man’s face, he closed his eyes. But Steve moved the aim to the thigh, you had told him that a shot to the femoral artery was fatel after ten seconds of bleeding, you had also told him that the femur- which was what the femoral artery is attached to -is the most painful break for bones.
So Steve shot at the middle of the thigh, he and Nat watched without emotion as the man quickly bled out, the blood squirted in the air and rolled down his pants. Blood coming from an artery is bright red and tends to squirt, but from a vein makes the blood more slow and dark. When the final squirt of blood managed to hit the man’s face, Steve knew he hit right on target; and that you were right for all those things.

Bucky and Wanda walked through the forest, most of the leaves had fallen off the trees due to the season so they could see further into the thick woods. Not a lot of talking was happening between the two of them, Bucky was way too focused on keeping his cool while Wanda used her powers to see if there was any form of life around.
The wind blew softly and the leaves that held on for dear life were now getting pushed aside off the flimsy twigs, they would fall and join the other countless leaves that met the same fate. Wanda loved the fall, she’d jump into a pile of leaves any chance she got. Right now she was purposely stepping on the ones that looked the most dry which would give a good crunch. Her nose was a little red due to the cold but everywhere else she was yellow and happy, it seemed she gave off heat.
Bucky hated the fall, the sound of stepping on leaves sounded like someone was right behind him. If there was a Hydra agent out in these woods they would have heard them from a mile away with all of Wanda’s jumping and giggling. Bucky loved Wanda in a motherly kind of way, but sometimes she was just too...happy…
When everything seemed lost, Bucky and Wanda’s phones began to vibrate, Bucky was quick to pick up. Both Bucky and Wanda made their way to a tree stump to take a moment to listen. Wanda sat on the ground floor and picked at the tons of leaves that covered the ground, she’d pick and rip them apart one by one.
“It’s Steve,” Bucky whispered before picking up, “Steve?”
“Buck, you have to listen to me,” his voice was shaken and distraught, “I’ve sent the coordinates, she’s there but I don’t know how much of her is left.”
“What does that mean?” Bucky asked as he looked over to see Wanda looking at the coordinates on her phone.
“I don’t know how much has happened to her, they’ve brainwashed her.” Steve took a deep breath, Bucky could hear Nat in the background, “we have to act fast, we’re on our way, do not wait for us.” he commanded and Bucky nodded but he knew Steve couldn't see, there was a type of mind reading between the two of them that really came in handy for times like these.
“Roger that.” Bucky hung up and began to move again, Wanda had read the location and it turned out they weren’t that far away, at the final stretch they saw the building through the empty trees.
The forest had been cleared around the building, the grass seems healthy but it was starting to brown with the changing weather. The building itself was very small for it to be the most dangerous Hydra facility, it was only one story. There were no windows and the outer wall was all one grey colour, no symbols or tanks ready to fire; there wasn’t even a guard around the building. It seemed too vacant for it to be true, the wind seemed to stop as they got closer into the open field, it was completely still and almost dead.
Bucky or Wanda actually had a plan, everything had been so fast there wasn’t anything drawn out or spoken about at some meeting, this was all instinct. Though there were no windows and security cameras they both knew something had to be watching the outside, they were low to the ground in the open field but the grass was way too short to cover them. Bucky had his gun ready while Wanda’s hands were in a position to create a shield for the both of them, at the sound of a vibration Wanda checked her phone.
“Steve and Nat have landed, they are five minuets out,” she whispered.
“Copy.” was all Bucky could think to say.
Both of their backs smashed against the wall, with their final moments of bliss before fighting a couple deep breaths were taken and eyes remained shut. Bucky’s finger fiddled on the trigger of the gun, Imagining what it would look like to blow the man who hurt you to oblivion. Bucky moved further and farther away from his Winter Soldier thoughts, the mass murder and robotic revenge. But when it came to someone hurting you, he’d even put the mask back on.
On the count of three the door was bursted open, and right away agents on the inside began to fire. Wanda and Bucky took them down their own way.
One agent was still alive, Bucky ran up and gripped his throat. “Where is she!” he screamed.
“You’ll never know-”
A gun was placed to his head.
“-Alright! Alright!” The man shrieked, “third door on the left, please don’t kill me!” the man cried.
“I won’t kill you,” Bucky lowered his gun but the grip on his neck tightened, “I’ll torture you slowly before.'' His left hand gripped so tight around the agent’s neck he could hear the bone shattering, clear fluid from the agent’s spine leaked from his eye and ear before blood followed. Bucky watched emotionlessly as the agent’s face turned blue and almost popped like a balloon. “Wanda, get them all outside.”
“Yes, sergeant!” Wanda yelled, she was fighting off everyone else.
Bucky blew by everyone as they ran to see the commotion, so ran right by Bucky without thinking he was the threat. Wanda was now outside and in a matter of seconds the eeriness of the outside matched the inside, the air was still and stuffy, it smelt like the beginning of decomposing. Bucky had his gun ready but it seemed no one was in here, his only threat was you.
Bucky took note of the stone grey floors, and stone grey walls, and stone grey ceilings. HYDRA didn’t put much money into design like the Avenger’s did, all the funds they collected went straight into the tech they made and Bucky was sure that’s why they were still around, they had so much money saved that they could pay people to turn their cheek and walk the other way.
As Bucky scanned for something to give away where all the scientists were, his eye met another door in the very corner of the room, it was exactly the same colour of the stone grey walls but the brass door knob caught his eye. All you could hear was the boot of Bucky’s combat boots on the floor, his breath was even scaring him. His hand reached out for the door and when he opened it he found what he was worrying about.
A cell. More specifically: an empty cell.
There were chains hanging from the ceiling, one large cuff, one for what seemed to be used for a neck and then four cuffs for wrists and ankles. Bucky completely forgot where he was, he didn’t remember there was an entire lab behind him, all his mind was throwing at his memories of a cell just like this.
Bucky didn’t remember much about cells in the early days fighting against HYDRA in a cell, in the 40’s. He did, however, remember what it was like to come out of ice when he was needed. The concept of life didn’t exist when he was frozen, it felt like a long blink, it didn’t seem like he’d been asleep for years.
He’d wake up and for a second he was still normal. He’d think it’s cold because it was winter and his house back in the 40’s didn’t have any type of heating system except for a small fireplace, his boots and pants were still on because he got hammered the night before- also explaining the headache -and just fell into bed. All his convincing would go away when his brain would fog again, and he’d look down and catch the shine of his left arm, all at once he’d fall back into place. The dissociating happens after dreams but it came from waking up and not really knowing who he was, as he’d walk to whatever commander was in charge that year he’d ask himself what he was, all the memories and answers in his brain would seem to pull further away, like a word in the tip of his tongue.
He was ripped from his thoughts manually, he thought of you. He thought he was hypnotizing himself when he looked in there at first, too triggered by what he saw to think straight, but he took another moment to look, he saw the chains swinging back and forth ever so slightly.
His stomach dropped, he knew you were still in the room. “Sweetheart?” he called like he always did, “it’s Bucky, we’re gonna get you out of here, come out, baby.” he tried to sound as soothing as possible, he looked under every lab table and every chair.
He flipped through pages on his desk, reading the details of what they did to you. “What is I.C.E.?” Bucky asked himself.
“Injected Complying Enhancement.”
Bucky turned as fast as he could to see you behind him. You were completely naked, body covered in dirt and grime, your hair was hacked and it seemed to have been pulled. Bucky just looked at your body, words were carved into your skin, every single one of them were infected, puss bubbles around the angry red scars. As his eyes trailed up he saw blue on your finger tips, then he reached your face to see a sunken cheekbone and massive cut on your forehead, but nothing compared to a generous piece of your nose hanging on by a thread, the tip was black.
“Baby, do you know me?” Bucky asked through heavy tears, this wasn’t what he was expecting.
You scanned over him, “Sergeant, James Buchanan Barnes, 32557038.”
Right at that moment, he knew you were gone.

Leverage Season 3, Episode 5, The Double-Blind Job, Audio Commentary Transcript
Marc: Hi, I'm Marc Roskin, Director of this episode.
John: I'm John Rogers, Executive Producer.
Melissa: Melissa Glenn, one of the writers.
Jessica: Jessica Rieder, the other writer.
Chris: Uh, Chris Downey, Executive Producer, and this is The Double-Blind Job.
John: Uh, how was this - how was this born?
Melissa: Well, this was... one of the early episodes that we were breaking in season three, and, if you recall, you had been working on a pharmaceutical, um, story to be the end of the premiere.
John: Oh, that's right, it was - this was the crime story that originally Edwin Hodge, Aldis's brother, was gonna be involved with in the premiere. We made it a much simpler crime, 'cause it be - it became about the jailbreak, and that crime glomed into this. This is one of my favorite openings to an episode, by the way.
Marc: Oh yeah, this opening is great.
John: It's just, it's very open and bright, and yeah, and also just structurally.
Jessica: Um, yeah, so we basically pillaged your episode, John, and uh--
[Laughter]
John: We use all the parts of the buffalo, kids. All the parts of the buffalo.
Jessica: We made it our own!
Melissa: So we just dove into, you know, pharma research, getting into pharmaceutical sales and development, and learning all about just the gems of an industry that, um, that they are.
John: And it really is one of those great industries where, no matter where you poke a stick, you will come up with evil.
Jessica: Yes.
John: You know, that's- it's not a hard bit of research.
Chris: And it's certainly not one of the main sponsors of our show.
[Laughter]
John: No! Not at all.
Jessica: Speaking of conflicts of interest, my entire family is in pharmacy, so I told them not to watch this episode!
Marc: I am the son of a pharmacist.
Jessica: Yeah! I'm the daughter of one.
John: You're just selling poison, you're not making it. Oh, Rieder, before you freak out, who's on the napkin, yeah? The napkin with your friends--
Jessica: My friends, I used all of my friends' names.
Melissa: They show up, like, on headstones.
John: You'll notice - how far are we into this without seeing the Leverage team?
Marc: We're far.
John: We're far.
Marc: Katie Lowes was great.
John: This - Katie Lowes is carrying the opening of the show. She looks - she looks like the scrappy little Sandra Bullock heroine in The Pelican Brief.
Marc: And there's of course Dave Connell's Charger that makes it in every show.
[Laughter]
Marc: Because he won't park in near crew parking.
John: How did we come up with this opening? I'm trying to remember, because I remember when we came up with it, it was just delightful, the idea that, for once, we just slammed into them.
Melissa: Yeah, I think we just wanted to mix it up.
Jessica: Yeah, I think that that's true.
Marc: And the best part was not - was not revealing Christian until we swing over to him.
John: For god's sake, that's just such a comic - that's one of the advantages of sitcom comedy experience in the room, because... I think it was written that way, that we just swooped over to him.
Marc: Yes, yeah. It was written that way, and Christian did his - he poured his own coffee on his chest.
Jessica: He was a trooper.
John: Just to prove he could do it.
[Laughter]
John: 'God, isn't that scalding?' [impression of Christian] 'Yes, yes, it's scalding!'
Jessica: [impression of Christian] 'I'm a man!'
Chris: What I like about this episode, and even that - that scene is, all of Christian's fights take place offscreen.
Marc: This is one of the few--
John: This is one of the few episodes with no actual fights in it.
Melissa: How interesting.
Jessica: It's probably 'cause Melissa and I don't write fight scenes well, so we just write...
John: You write good fights.
Chris: It was actually better just having Aldis's reactions.
Melissa: And this one was actually interesting to write, because it was the victim intake scene kind of mashed into, you know, the team intel, what we call the LA Law scene, so it was all wrapped into one, which was - which was fun to write, it moved through really quickly.
John: It was one of the first four times we did that this season, and you'll notice when you watch the DVDs, we try to do it a lot, we - we really try to get a really accelerated opening to these episodes this year, because the audience knows the format, you know, and now we all know how we wanna start. Also, Beth played that jealousy beat just kinda perfectly.
Jessica: Oh my gosh.
John: Not really jealous, just kind of, 'What am I feeling here?'.
All talking over each other: Yeah/yes.
Jessica: Confused.
Chris: I thought that - I thought that was great, she was- she kinda- she couldn't tell what the feeling was, and it came out in strange ways, and I thought it was really wonderful.
John: And this was - this was also really nice to establish that, um, yeah and something that, you don't - you don't play to the fans, but certainly get fan feedback, the idea if Aldis Hodge were in love with you, that you would be able to fend that off for any length of time was getting a little ridiculous!
Jessica: Yeah.
John: You know, charming, sw- the character, Hardison, and charming, sweet, dedicated to you, and just the idea that, it would have to be, um, not returned, but at least, you know, acknowledged, or else you start to not like the character on the receiving end of it.
Jessica: It's true, yeah. She sort of crosses, then, from loveable sociopath into-
John: Actual sociopath.
Jessica: Yes, to actual sociopath, yeah!
John: Which is not quite as lovable.
Jessica: But that's one of those examples where, like, you write something on the page and then, when the actor gets it, it becomes a hundred times more, you know, like Beth just takes these small beats that you give her, even if she has no lines, and just makes them these moments that you remember.
John: See, watch her in the deep background. Nice.
Jessica: She's amazing, yeah.
John: Derek Frederickson's computer graphics, again, saving us an awful lot of time.
Melissa: Yeah, it's true.
Marc: The moped.
Melissa: The moped. Seems like it's just character? No, no, it has a story purpose as well.
Jessica: It does!
Melissa: We don't mess around.
Chris: Seems like he's a quirky guy, rides a moped, right? Not so fast...
Jessica: Oh no.
John: The, uh - I like Katie also here is one in a line of, um, of spunky science girls this year. She's like - she's - when we meet a character that we can kind of keep invested, it’s tricky; we try to keep the victims involved, they need to have information, otherwise you're just keeping them around for no reason. And so, because of the nature of our - our crimes, it tends to become that sort of character.
Marc: And it helped with her relationship with Hardison.
John: Oh yeah, very much so. You had to give her Hardison.
Marc: That Parker's jealous of that as well.
John: Well also it was one of the challenges in the writing, I remember, it was like, alright, we want someone Parker to feel jealous, why is this girl around? There has to be a legitimate story.
Jessica: To keep her around.
John: And, you know, she keeps them up; she's dedicated her life to solving this mystery, she's the one with the information.
Chris: Now an astonishing amount of debate went into whether or not we could bring her upstairs into Nate's apartment.
Melissa: Yes.
Jessica: Yes!
Chris: Don't think that we don't talk about these things.
John: No, and what is the - what is the thing we quoted from last year, which is obviously true? You do not bring Vicky Vale into the Batcave. You do not.
Melissa: Unless you plan on gassing her, and then it turns out ugly.
John: Wow, you know, I have that rule, but most people don't think that's funny, but when you say it, it sounds okay.
[Laughter]
John: Which led us to using the lovely back room. That was the--
Chris: Which turned out great.
John: Was that the first time this year?
Chris: No, uh...I don't know--
Jessica: We used it in The Bottle Job.
Chris: It was in The Bottle Job, but it might've been the first time--
John: It might have been the first time they used it as the auxiliary office.
Melissa: Because it was rebuilt. I mean, it was rebuilt and moved over there.
Jessica: Yeah.
John: And it was nice because, um, it was another one of those, we'll just use it this one time, and it turned into one of our favorite little sets, you know. Much like the bar really became a much bigger part of it than the--
Chris: -Than a year ago. I thought this looked - this looked great.
John: This looked great. What was the challenges? 'Cause that's the first time anyone had shot in that set, I mean. It wasn't built for it.
Chris: It wasn't built for it - it laid out well and the actors really took to the blocking and Tim really made use of the room, you know, when we use the table you'll see him get in front of the screen, you'll see him take his, like, command position at the bar, and then later on you'll see we - we did one shot, you know, steadicam, from the back room all the way to the bar as well.
John: Which was nice, having those - and I will admit actually, I opposed the idea of expanding the bar. I didn't think it was a good use of space, but it wound up having that secondary office, wound up being a really smart, uh, really smart idea.
Jessica: Yeah, it's true.
Melissa: We're about to see the first dead body, right? This is our first dead body in that room?
Jessica: Yeah!
John: No, in The Jury Job we killed a guy. That guy was dead when he hit the ground.
Chris: Well...!
Melissa: To be fair.
[All talking over each other]
Marc: This guy's all the way dead; this is our first murder, this was our first murdered dude, yes.
Jessica: Yeah. Breaking new ground.
John: We are a - yes, thank you for murdering someone for the first time, girls.
Jessica: You're very welcome.
Chris: Oh, 'You don't have to live in pain any longer', one of my favorite...
Jessica: That was so great.
Chris: The slogans of the company and all the graphics...
John: Oh yeah. Coming up with the evil pharmaceutical companies, the evil agricultural companies, is fun because we to run our stuff through clearances, it's a legal department--
Melissa: Oh yeah.
John: To make sure we're not actually infringing on real stuff. The cheesier and more horrible we come up with, the more likely someone's already really doing it.
Jessica: And again, on behalf of my family, pharmacy does a lot of good for a lot of people.
John: Yes, yes, alright, fine!
[Laughter]
Jessica: I have an inheritance to protect!
John: We're not like - we're telling people not to take prescribed drugs. We're telling them that sometimes giant corporations do evil things. It's two entirely different things!
Melissa: It's amazing we have any sponsors for the show whatsoever.
[Laughter]
John: This was also a nice touch, by the way, the- Eliot knowing the nine places to inject a body. It's one of the reminders that we were building to - and by now you've seen the season finale - to remind the audience, because Christian, Christian's a very inherently charming human being and we play it very light... he used to kill people.
Melissa: Yes.
John: And it's an important thing to be kind of locked into. Oh, graveyard scene!
Marc: Graveyard scene, yes. Love this scene.
Jessica: This was originally not the end of the act, but it shot so beautifully that we flipped it around, 'cause you have to end on this moment. And there's my friend's name on the gravestone!
John: That's not creepy at all.
Jessica: Yeah.
Marc: Big crane shot.
Jessica: Wow, look at this.
Melissa: This park was so gorgeous.
John: Is this where we shot the finale? The season two finale? That looks familiar.
Melissa: I don't know, it was just this beautiful flowering tree, it was just--this place was just breathtaking.
John: It's gorgeous.
Chris: All dead.
Jessica: They killed everyone!
John: The way we came up with that, I remember we were trying to figure out a way to make the talking scenes interesting, like, they'd go around to this town, and it's like, well, you know, how is that interesting going door to door? And we also ran out of page space. And then, just in the room it was like, well just kill him. Just put him in the ground; use the visuals.
Melissa: Yeah. We found him, but we don't have any answers.
John: Exactly. It's a good mystery episode, it actually worked out pretty well trying to solve the: 'We can't do anything without Hardison'.
Marc: Dammit, Hardison.
John: Everyone gets a 'Dammit, Hardison' in this one, right?
Jessica: That’s true. This is a really fun scene though, because we got Nate and Sophie just alone together, just doing their bantering thing, which is just fun. Usually it's like, you know, usually the whole team is there and-- but the two of them when they're alone together, you just get to sort of enjoy their- their chemistry.
John: Especially when you see them planning like this. You really get the sense--and we talk about this a lot in the commentaries this year--Nate's their peer now. He was their boss, and now because of the general, various screw-ups that he's made, he has to accept the fact that they have a lot more feedback into this process. And Sophie's a very good grifter, you know, she's one of the best, so she's gonna be--you're gonna have to listen to her when she pitches.
Marc: And it's so much more fun to cover two people.
[Laughter]
John: Goddamn directors, all they want to talk about! Pan up--pan up legs.
[All talking at once about Parker's legs]
Marc: I even did one version where it's in, like, slow motion, at like 120 frames, of Parker coming in, that was a little too much!
Jessica: That was just for Roskin's home video!
[Laughter]
John: That's just, that's his iPhone.
Marc: Well this is all based on true research, too, which is a surprising number of--surprising percentage of pharmaceutical sales reps come out of cheerleading programs.
Jessica: Yep.
Marc: Their knowledge of the actual workings of the drugs are much less than their perky and attractiveness.
Jessica: And the length of their skirts.
Marc: And the length of their skirts!
Jessica: Or lack thereof.
Marc: I love this--I love these looks that Beth gives, uh, Beth gives Katie Lowes here.
John: Wait, you can just take people's heads and put them on different pictures? What the--I've gotta go!
[Laughter]
John: Uh, this is a great--this is a great 360, the 360 of jealousy, this is nice.
Jessica: [Laughing/Whispering] ‘The 360 of jealousy.’
John: Also, using Katie, you can see, actually, Katie's throwing her look, and that's what's motivating the camera moves, which is nice.
Jessica: Wow. Was that planned, or...?
John: Who’s playing the FDA rep?
Marc: Um, the, um, uh--Tracy. Tracy...Gaillard. Yeah, she was great.
John: Did a really nice job.
Jessica: She was a Portland local, wasn't she?
John: Yeah. Yeah, again.
Jessica: We love Portland.
John: We have so many great Portland actors, we got really lucky up there. And, uh, yeah, the whole, uh, seducing the out-of-town FDA...The FDA actually in the Leverage-verse is more effective than the FBI.
[Laughter]
Jessica: It's true!
John: If you actually measure their competence levels, I'd much rather have the FBI of the Leverage verse chasing me than the FDA!
Jessica: That’s so true.
Melissa: And this location was the former offices of the Columbian newspaper up there, in Vancouver, Washington. It was a gorgeous building.
Marc: We shot several episodes--
Jessica: Yes!
John: When you look at the next episode in order on the DVDs, which will be the one I directed, The Inside Job, it's that building. Except we look right in the lobby! Imagine off to the left of all of my shots in the lobby, this entire episode is happening.
Marc: In Top Hat Job it was the, uh...
Jessica: Oh yeah!
John: That's right.
Jessica: This is, I think, the first time we see the amazing Michael O'Keefe.
John: Oh man, is he good in this.
Jessica: Who we were so lucky to get, and just...man, did just such...
John: He's really great, he really dug in on the whole... well, who did you, don't say the name, but what was the model for this guy? 'Cause you guys found an interesting model, rather than just a straight pharmaceutical dude.
Melissa: It was a pharmaceutical dude--
John: He had a habit, right?
Melissa: But he had a habit of just chasing a CEO job from company to company, kind of, you know, didn't really matter--
John: Because that's a non-pharmaceutical job.
Melissa: He had tons of non-pharmaceutical- it was just, ‘Where can I get on the top?’. So that was kind of our model for him, was a guy who didn't grow up in the industry, just grew up wanting to be the top, so, yeah.
Marc: And when I talked to Michael O'Keefe about the part, he said, 'I am gonna play this like Harry Limes in The Third Man. No matter how bad things are getting, I know I can get out of it. I will never look defeated.' And he plays it, up until the exact last moment of the whole episode.
Melissa: And then even after we stopped rolling at the very end, he was like, 'I can explain.'
[Laughter]
Melissa: He walked off at the end of the day with his last little, 'No, I can explain this.'
John: And let's face it, these guys pay a fine and then they get away with it.
Jessica: Yeah.
John: And that's your depressing thought for the day.
Melissa: Thank you.
John: You're welcome.
Melissa: This little scene was originally cut--well, we originally didn't have time for it, and then we edited it back in, and Trina, who is...
Marc: Lisa Foiles?
Melissa: Lisa, she was so fun, it was great to add this scene back in.
John: Ah, that's nice.
Chris: And there's our prop guy, JPD, as well.
Jessica: Yes! Love JPD.
Melissa: My shout-out is that he's named after Doctor Nessin, my father-in-law, so--we were just putting our fingerprints...
John: You know, guys, you have to get forms filled out when you do this--and people's permission, right, before you can use their names?
Melissa: Um, then that has no likeness, resemblance, to anyone, living or dead!
[Laughter]
John: Just, um, just a heads-up that, just on future commentaries you may wanna let that slide...
Jessica: Legal? Are we gonna need to get legal on the phone?
Chris: Look at that acting here, nice job!
Jessica: It's great!
Melissa: We should actually cast him with some lines someday.
John: The, uh--another bad Parker sales job. It's fun tracking her inability--her evolving ability to interact with her friends and her continuing inability to interact with everyone else.
Melissa: Yes.
Chris: She's not the most patient salesperson.
Marc: This was actually shot while we were making your episode.
Melissa: That’s right.
John: Oh, that's right! You just were in another part of the building, weren’t you?
Melissa: It's like, ‘hey, take a break from running around being chased and go get pharma [unintelligible].
John: That's why her hair might not totally match, because it's just a different look.
Melissa: This is a small thing, but when she pulled these blinds, she just did it with such accuracy, it's just, it's like--she's so Parker in this moment.
John: It is--it is wonderful watching her drop into thief mode, because not only when you're watching her perform--what's that?
Chris: Especially in that skirt!
[Laughter]
Chris: Sorry, did I just say that?
John: Yes, it was out loud, that was out loud! I remember when she showed up in the dress, in the season finale of season one, and we bumped into her when she walked out, and she was like, 'What do you think, guys?' and you stared at her for a few seconds and then just went, '...Green'.
[Laughter]
John: Because there literally was no other response to that dress than acknowledge its existence.
Chris: [Unintelligible] It wouldn’t have been actionable.
[All talking over each other]
John: But it's--Beth disappears into Parker anyway, but then when Parker drops into thief mode, it's like two levels down, it's great to watch.
Melissa: Yeah, it's true.
John: This was a really nice use of space considering it was the first time you shot there.
Marc: Yeah, it was great, it was also great to get her involved in the scene with Nate.
John: It's--it's tricky, that--it's hard to invite the audience--it's hard to invite proxy members into the family, 'cause they really are watching and it takes a really unique actor to pull it off. And Katie did a great job.
Marc: Did a great job, and you know, because she is the victim, because this is all the research that she's done, it was like, motivated for her. To be active.
John: I don't remember what comes after the act break here, are we just--oh, it's a reset.
Chris: Wow, she really is in this whole--
John: Yeah, she is--well, we have to motivate that jealousy, you know, we really have to--
Melissa: We saw a lot of her, you know she worked, like...four days eventually.
John: Also it's one of those things where, when you're in the edit, there's a version where you could cut this and she's not there that much, but because she's such a charming actor, you feel it's a nice presence.
Jessica: And like you said, at the end, we really did need to motivate, like, what happens between Aldis and Parker--sorry! I'm mixing fantasy with reality! Between Hardison and Parker. And that didn't, you know, if that--if you didn't spend enough time with Katie...it actually wouldn't feel as motivated, so, you know. It's great, it was great to have, uh, to have her in so much.
Marc: Well there's the shot that goes from the bar--backroom to the bar.
John: Smooth! All the way to the front door? Oh, nice! Somebody’s showing off, there!
Melissa: Yeah. That would be Roskin.
John: What I love is that there--there are people in this bar who constantly look at Nate walking through the bar going, 'Oh, it's that crazy guy who talks to himself again. That's very sad.'
Melissa: You know, let's face it, they're there at 10AM drinking, so they--who are they to judge?
[Laughter]
Marc: I really enjoyed the energy of this scene, especially, you know, your--they start counting down because Beth's in there, in the office, and Aldis then comes storming out, which, uh, which just gave it a lot of movement and energy, and there's a ticking clock...
Melissa: A lot of urgency, yeah, it's true.
John: Well, it's tricky because, you know, we cross-cut--we don't cross-cut for pace we cross-cut for location, and you know, and trying--you only have so many editorial tools, and we mix them, we use them, we double up on them, and so when you can actually combine, just like, cross-cutting for location creates--gives you also your sense of urgency; take the win. This is a lovely look that Tracy plays here, by the way. Just the little, very flattered...
Marc: And I also love how, like, it's Tim's confidence and he's pushing the team, and he's taking chances.
Jessica: Yup, yup. And you get to drop in again a little bit of Hardison's sort of protectiveness of Parker, you know, that it's like...
John: And then Sophie calling him on it--this is--this is, in theory, Nate has just come back from prison, he's still trying to make his bones on being able to call stuff live. Uh, with Scheherazade, big giant, you know, big, giant--almost too tough to pull off job, you know, going into this.
Marc: I think this was originally slotted for three, wasn't it?
John: I think so, and then we moved it, moved around in broadcast form.
Melissa: Yeah. These things get shuffled around quite a lot.
John: Yeah. We didn't--we didn't slide them as much as we have some years, but definitely kinda moved back and forth a little.
Jessica: But it's true, I never really think of what the people in the bar are thinking when he's having one of those conversations into his earbud.
Chris: That's the show, you know, within a show. That's the web series.
Jessica: It's true, we totally need to do that.
Chris: Just, point of view in the bar.
John: Like the older--like Fitzy? I always imagined Fitzy was like--
Chris: You see him when he comes home to his wife, 'Oh, there was another fight in the bar, yeah...I saw a guy's tooth fly out in slow motion!'
[Laughter]
John: And then Sophie gets to chew him out. Good chewing out this year, it was motivated by professionalism rather than relationship stuff, that's always much more satisfying. Also because she's had the kid, Gina can now turn on the stern mom thing pretty well, I don't know, I guess it's actually a genetic thing, I had no idea! But yeah.
Jessica: It just kicks in.
John: A little gravitas there.
John: Yeah, there's the people at the table awkwardly trying not to notice them, him getting yelled at now.
Jessica: These people are having a very awkward fight, ah, just sitting here eating fries.
Chris: It's a first date, I mean, you know...they met online...
[Laughter]
Melissa: Seemed like a safe place to meet; turned out to be nuts.
John: This is a great scene, because of the way you wound up playing it, not angry, just exhausted. Just, he's not used to this kind of courtship.
Jessica: It's true!
Marc: It was great how--how Dave lit this scene, uh, 'cause he and Dave Connell was the one who ended up picking where Tim should end up, and it just played great with the--with the depth and the lighting.
John: You got a real noir look in there, look at that, uh, look at the blinds. Nice.
Chris: Ah, that's a great shot.
John: Yeah, popping depth of field back and forth, that is nice. That's nice, that's a little like in the middle of, um, Glinda, actually, when he, when the guy playing the husband's just in silhouette. That is gorgeous.
Melissa: Yeah.
John: And the, uh...
Marc: And just to hear the dialog from a distance, too, is nice.
Jessica: It really changes the scene when you space it out like that. That's not originally how I think we pictured it when we wrote it, but it adds this element of distance between the kids and the dad, you know.
Marc: Especially for the--the last two lines of it as well. Prison's changed him.
Jessica: And then they can have...yeah.
John: They can have that conversation way over there. This is a--incredibly difficult scene to write, and you guys did a great job, because it’s just an enormous--it's a great, uh, great Evil Speech of Evil. One of my favorite Evil Speeches of Evil. I forget where we found the number, number just popped up in the research, it was like a tip, and then, um...and then, now, but I will give this to Marc because, this is an enormously static scene, how did you wind up shooting this? 'Cause this is tough.
Marc: Well I knew I was gonna position them here just for the, for the looks, 'cause you know they have the window, the backroom, and then in the two shot, to have that full bar, that shot. Now here's where Michael O'Keefe said, 'I don't know if I should do this.' In rehearsal he did it, and he said--
Jessica: He kept eating olives.
Marc: 'Oh boy, I'm gonna regret this.' He ended up having fifteen olives.
[Laughter]
Jessica: So disgusting!
Marc: And it's, you know--I love doing scenes like this 'cause, you know, it's just--it--it lets the actor just chew into the material, into the dialog, into the characters, and they had such a good time working together.
John: There are long scenes in this episode.
Marc: Yeah.
John: I mean, they're really big character scenes in this episode.
Chris: Also that shot is so apt, when they're talking about drugs, and you have this great shot of just a wall of bottles of booze.
Jessica: Ah, that's true.
Chris: I mean it really is fantastic.
Melissa: And that bar was just right next door, too.
Marc: It was basically 'cause it was right next door to, the Columbia building, and it worked out great. 'Til I found out we didn't close the restaurant, so in the middle of this scene of evil you hear two tourists from Omaha laughing in the restaurant.
Jessica: ‘Tehehehehe.’
Chris: Ah, look at that, that is great, that's a nice panning shot.
John: So are you creating an equivalence between alcohol and other pharmaceutical drugs?
Chris: No! Certainly not... people use alcohol to medicate themselves...
Jessica: Pharmaceutical drugs help many, many people.
John: Alcohol helps many--alcohol helps your showrunner not kill you!
[Laughter]
Jessica: That is true! We are grateful for both types.
John: The number of times in the middle of the day when I've reached for your throat and then the Irish whiskey's just slightly to the right...
Jessica: Just landed there. Yeah.
John: There you go. And then Nate--Tim's just there! I love that, I just. No, I mean really, if you--if you're a young baby director, take a look at how Marc did this, because this is a looong scene. This has gotta be a four minute scene, five minute scene.
Marc: Oh yeah.
Jessica: You must've hated us.
John: And it's all done in just rotating those--those eyelines.
Marc: And it was great, now all of a sudden, now he's in the other side of the table.
John: Now you just suddenly see, now he's in the bad guy seat.
Jessica: Mm-hmm. Yeah, that was really--Marc, you must have just wanted to kill us when you read the scene. 'How am I gonna make this interesting?'
Chris: It's not--it's not one scene, I mean, it's just...
John: Well it's two scenes, that's the trick. It's really a French scene, if you think about it.
Marc: But these are the scenes that I really enjoy, because it, you know, the actors--especially in Leverage episodes, so many times you're cutting away and cutting away and cutting away, and you really get to just focus on--on the acting and the writing.
Melissa: I love Gina's little look there, it's like, oh, we switched? Oh, okay.
Jessica: Really, we're there? Yeah.
John: She looks great there, that's a nice lip color on her, actually.
Jessica: The two of them, they had great chemistry--or maybe it was just Marc. I just--they really enjoyed the scene and I think you can tell it, you know, like--when two actors really enjoy working with each other.
Marc: And, uh, yeah 'cause the first scene we did, I believe, was--was Michael and Tim, and Tim was the one who suggested Michael for the role. And you can always just--when you get a great guest star who shows up, uh, it just, it just changes everything.
Jessica: Yeah. Everybody elevates, I think, to meet.
John: This is a great--this is kind of a--I think I said this, actually, when we were doing the other season, this is a proto-Leverage, this is, like, one of the Leverage episodes you go for when someone's looking for the model Leverage episode.
Chris: But the opening I thought was, I thought was innovative.
John: No, but I mean that in a good way, it's like it's got enough twists, it's got enough variations on a theme that it feels fresh, but you know, if you did not know what Leverage was, you could watch this and know what the show was. You know, which is a compliment.
Jessica: Another little shout-out to my own life, 7-2-9-8 is my anniversary, 7-29-08, yeah.
John: 7-29...anniversary of what?
Melissa: Her anniversary.
Jessica: Anniversary of, you know, my relationship!
John: Oh, okay.
Jessica: Which we don't have to talk about, but I'm just saying!
[Laughter]
John: No, let's share with the audience!
Jessica: Shall we!
John: I'm sure the audience would love to hear this!
Chris: Now you're going to get some cards. And there's gonna be some Facebook shout-outs.
John: I tell you right now there's gonna be a lot of broken-hearted boys out there who saw you on that Writer's Room video. 'Oh no, the glinty tooth girl has a boyfriend!'
Jessica: ‘She's taken!’ Yeah.
Marc: This is a great look. 'Good luck.'
John: Oh! That's just so cold. That's so horrible. And that kind of little move forward—and Katie kind of plays it too, just like, 'This isn't happening, right?’
Jessica: ‘I’m terrified.’
John: ‘She's not actually stepping towards me...?'
Melissa: It is great to have someone from the outside; everyone else is kind of used to Parker.
Chris: There's Connell's car again.
John: Why does—he just won't park in the...?
Chris: That's gonna be a drinking game now! You look at every episode, there's a black Charger.
[Laughter]
John: Michael O'Keefe plays that nice, it's very flirty, it's very—
Melissa: But also creepy. Creepy, at the same time...
John: You believe he killed someone.
Jessica: Oh, yeah.
Chris: And I mean, like, that's the guy from Caddyshack, you know? That's Noonan!
Marc: The Great Santini.
Chris: Oh, Great Santini, he's great in the Great Santini.
John: It's interesting, it tells me a lot about your childhood, you went to Caddyshack, you went to Great Santini.
[Laughter]
Chris: ‘Gotta win by two, sports fans.’
Melissa: If you'll notice, there's orange soda now in the room, you know—the props, and—they kept moving up the different, uh, you know, on the tables there was food and then there was half-eaten food, and finally there was orange soda, to show the comfortability.
John: We have long talks, actually, the props and set design and set decking guys are very big on exactly how the sets evolve, uh, and an enormous amount of time is spent on such things, which seems crazy, but is an accretion of detail that helps make it more believable. ‘Lord of all he surveys.’ That's a nice, up and down, was nice. Was that determined by the set? Or did we put that—I think that was set, I don't think that was in the script.
Marc: Um... Yeah, I think it was the set...I believe.
John: Yeah, 'cause he was originally just across the lobby.
Chris: Oh, look at that Vio—there's the big Vioplex—
John: Wasn't that an art museum in the second...?
Melissa: Yup, shh!
[All talking over each other]
Marc: Lotta screens, establishing champagne glasses...
John: There you go, people at parties, pictures taking... Who has that on their Facebook? 'Me and Tommy at the Vioplex opening!' You've been tagged.
[Laughter]
Melissa: Look at all of this artwork and posters, I mean, they were just—they were great.
John: This is insane!
Melissa: ‘I don't wanna live in pain any more, gimme some Vioplex!’
John: This is amazing when you think that we ask our—because we are a very specific type of show, you know—Law & Order, they're not asked to create totally new corporate logos, and all this corporate artwork every single week. Our guys have to create a new, fake, evil company every week with all the accompanying—
Jessica: Look at those people, they're not living in pain any more! I believe it!
John: I like the new pretty hair.
Marc: Yeah, this was—you know, she—she just spent a lot of time having fun with Eliot, and she's let down her hair.
Jessica: Literally.
Marc: Enjoying herself.
John: Did they have sex?
Marc: Um, I can't comment on that.
Chris: They walked the Freedom Trail.
Jessica: They literally walked the Freedom Trail, that's in the script!
John: And that's in the script, it wasn't a metaphor?
Jessica: No!
John: Alright.
Jessica: He's still faithful to Amy from season one.
[Laughter]
Jessica: Guys, they're having a long-distance relationship!
John: Wow, you are—it is three years later and you're still riding that hobby horse!
Chris: Is that anniversary between you and Eliot?
John: Is that what that number is? When he was with Amy-slash-Jessica in that episode? Oh no!
Melissa: So you'll see now she's putting her hair back up.
John: Emotionally shuts down.
Jessica: Trying to pull out of this spiral.
Melissa: Bring us back.
John: I love the snarky little, 'You want a little time to shake that off?' Just that—
Melissa: Yeah. I love it.
John: What is that dot? Oh, that's Parker.
Melissa: That is Parker's trail. They're comparing it to Hoffman's trail.
John: Oh, that's a kicky little jacket. Yeah, I like the collar on that.
Jessica: Oh, is that the thing that we shot twice?
Melissa: Yes. Yes.
[Laughter]
John: Not this section!
Melissa: This little hallway may have been the first time that I was, you know, alone on splinter unit, and may have forgot to give the case to Parker.
John: You mean the case that she had to carry, the entire point of her being in that corridor...?
Melissa: Isn't her jacket great?
Marc: Now, to be fair, folks—
John: Her jacket is great.
Marc: —there's a lotta...these things are shot out of order—
John: They are.
Marc: —and it's sometimes hard to realize...
John: They are, don't get me wrong.
Jessica: I'm not pointing any fingers, I just thought it was an interesting little tidbit.
Marc: This is fun to see that—
John: No, no, we—well, wait, Glenn was on set, where were you? When she was off doing splinter unit on her own, were you back in the trailer writing 'Mrs. Jessica Spencer' in a notebook over and over again? Little heart over the 'i's?
Jessica: There was only one time that happened! One time I had too much to drink at craft service!
[Laughter]
Jessica: Also...never mind, I'm done telling little personal tidbits from my life, I'm done!
John: Probably a good idea.
Jessica: I'm stepping back.
John: This keypad has been seen in a lot of Leverage episodes. Once you build a good, functioning keypad, don't screw around.
Chris: You need—you need to change up the keypad, I’m just saying.
John: That's a good, suspenseful shot of the two of them, looking through the camera, that's—some smart person should get Katie Holmes in their show, 'cause they'd do well for themselves.
Jessica: Katie Holmes? Or Katie Lowes?
John: Katie Lowes, pardon me. Katie Holmes, don't try to get her!
Chris: She's much more difficult!
Jessica: And that poor guy—
John: And here's my question: where was he going with that pen?!
Chris: He was going to grab a cocktail napkin, and uh, give his phone number, he's a sales rep!
Melissa: He had met this girl—
John: But he was leaning with the pen in hand, it was—it was a little messy!
Melissa: He needed to write down his number, quick! There's lots of ladies out there.
John: I do love the sort of truculence with which Parker triggers the motion sensors in the flatbed, this sort of like—that her hatred of in any way having to be a lesser thief.
Marc: She does not wanna set off alarms, no.
Jessica: Yeah. That was hard—that was hard to film because it needed to mean two things simultaneously, yeah.
John: Yeah, we do a lot of that, that's [unintelligible].
Jessica: That was tricky.
John: Thank god for the actors.
Marc: And also you don't see it until the flashbacks, so, getting everybody up on the same page, a little difficult to accomplish.
John: Oh gosh, that's right, when we were—when we were breaking this in the room, that was a big deal, was trying to make sure that everything tracked logically both ways.
Melissa: Right.
John: 'Cause I think this has one of the longest runs of, you have to think the other thing.
Jessica: Yes.
John: And the most detailed thing of you have to think the other thing.
Marc: Look how serious Jimmy Mack is.
Jessica: This is Jimmy Mack, our set PA, he's—
Chris: Boy, he's really in character, I didn't recognize him.
John: Yeah. And he was my first AD on, uh, Splinter finale, did a great job.
Marc: No he wasn't. [Clears throat pointedly]
John: No, that's right, no he wasn't.
Jessica: That's one of the coolest, ah, stunts I think we've ever had.
Marc: Yeah
John: Was that, uh...
Melissa: That was Jesse.
John: Our regular Parker?
Melissa: And she just literally, I mean, dropped from the ceiling. It was amazing.
Jessica: It was so badass. Am I allowed to say that?
John: Yes, you are. I said 'bullshit' earlier.
Jessica: So badass.
Melissa: And this—I mean this is one of those things—the way that we scripted it was just that she throws it out and runs out, and when they did it, it was, that's amazing, that looks really badass.
John: Was that Jesse, again, with the throw?
Melissa: Yup.
John: Yeah.
Melissa: The slide, tackle, and throw, it was very cool.
Marc: Yeah, Jesse looked at the ceiling and she said, "Yeah, I can just do that, I can just drop and land on my feet."
Jessica: "No, I'm good."
Marc: She said, "I'm good."
John: She also, she did the same thing with the ventilation shaft in mine, she just kind of crawled out the ventilation shaft.
Jessica: Poor guy.
Chris: Right in the happy...! He's a retired surfer.
Marc: This was, I think, the actual first scene we shot with Michael, and Tim.
Melissa: Yeah. It was.
John: Tim has really mastered the whole, 'I'm going'—the 'I might be dead or I might be in charge here.' He's really got that—that expression down cold.
Melissa: We make him do that a lot, yeah.
Marc: It's—what's great about this location is we didn't have to keep the blinds closed to have a nice background, like that.
Jessica: Oh my gosh, this is so gorgeous.
Melissa: It was in the middle of a really rainy season though, and I remember at one point thinking the sun came out, and when I looked out the window, oh, it’s the condor.
[Laughter]
Jessica: It's an actual light!
Melissa: It's just a giant light, yeah. I was fooled.
John: Michael O'Keefe, so dismissive—he's a good bad guy, man, he's just, you're right, you can just feel him being in control.
Marc: Right. And this whole fight takes place off camera.
Jessica: So great.
John: There's a lot of good comedy techniques in this, the bang-out.
Jessica: Yeah.
John: And then we have the case trick, which we, uh, which was a little tricky 'cause it was one of those things where, um, because I know magicians, I know exactly how it worked, but trying to explain to people exactly how to build one of these things was a little tricky.
Jessica: Yeah. And at the end it was just—
Marc: Yeah.
Jessica: It happens and you don't see it.
[Laughter]
John: All good magic works that way.
Jessica: Yeah, exactly. 'Look over here!'
John: It's easier to imply than to build.
Melissa: Yeah.
John: It's not, uh, it's not rocket science; they're not hard to build.
Jessica: And that scene was so great, just having Tim and Michael, just acting their faces off, you know, it was just like—and I think it was, this was still the first day Michael was there, and just diving right in, they were so comfortable together, and it was really fun.
John: Well there is, interesting because there are guys who come in and, and—I say 'guys' generically for actors—where they want to find something redeeming in that villain. And that's good acting! But Michael was really the first guy to go, uh, 'No.'
Jessica: I'm just—
Melissa: What I'm gonna get away with.
John: Yeah. There are people like this in the world, and that's what they're like. This is a complicated little switch. And then the- yes, and then she has to play the attitude of setting off the motion detectors; it's fun.
Jessica: Yeah. This was I think the most complicated sort of jungle gym choreography of, like—you know, like the—
Marc: It's a lot to explain, and you have to...
Jessica: Yes.
Marc: You can't spend a lot of time in each shot.
Jessica: Yeah.
John: Well also 'cause you play an emotional beat in the middle of it.
Melissa: Right.
[Laughter at Parker jumping up and down in front of the motion detectors]
Melissa: She's not pleased.
John: It's fun, too, 'cause a lot of times we do get, like, 'Oh, you know, how—it's not that easy to fool security.' Yes it is, it's awfully easy to fool security systems. Look at—it's all going on in the eyes right there. Nice. And, and Tim's also made an interesting choice with Nate, now that he's out of prison, where it's—it's a crueler edge to how he treats the villains. You know? It was sort of this religious righteousness in the first two seasons, and now—now he's a bastard.
Melissa: Yep. It's like, 'We've got you!'
Jessica: Sort of the gloves are off, you know? Yeah.
John: Well it's his evolution, his evolution towards being a wolf, you know.
Chris: Well and also this guy was particularly, you know—this is one of our... he killed someone, this is one of our eviller...
Jessica: He killed an entire town!
John: He didn't kill an entire town; he killed like nine people in a town!
[Laughter]
Marc: More champagne glass shots, just keep setting them up, keep setting it up.
John: Love, loving that! Well it solves the big thing for actors, which is what you do with your hands. All actors will tell you that's the worst thing you have to worry about.
Jessica: That's so creepy.
Marc: Emotionless face.
John: It's like—it's like it's the really sexy British version of the ghost from, uh, from The Ring.
Jessica: Yeah, yeah, it totally is! ‘I'm coming out of the screen at you.’
John: ‘With a champagne glass.’ Oh, that's not so bad. That's not a Japanese girl out of a well at all.
Marc: So here's Michael going into the party, and still maintaining control.
Chris: ‘Oh yeah, it's just fine!’
John: ‘Just freaking out a little!’
Jessica: ‘I'm just taking care of this champagne, don't worry!’
Chris: Sorry, folks, if this ever happens, everything's fine. If you’re at an event and someone comes in and they're just knocking the champagne...
John: You're not at all going to suffer brutal liver failure in the next 48 hours. Oh, and by the way, that's the whole, uh, thing that this does to you is actually based on a mushroom. It was based on that great mushroom toxin we found. Something that you could drink and that would, you would not feel, but you are dead.
Marc: I love this part of this script where it's a reveal to everybody.
Melissa: Yeah.
John: You like a good group gloat.
Marc: It's great, you have him just surrounded by everyone, the press...
Chris: And it's here now that the camera swirls around...
John: I like—I like the idea of, while they're swirling around and everyone's going 'I can't believe the perfidy of that company, I can't believe they murdered people', one person's like, 'Hey, my champagne!'
[Laughter]
John: They're—they're totally not clueing in to what's going on.
Jessica: It's true.
Melissa: It's true to life. Not everyone catches on at the same speed.
John: Exactly. 'Well, I came to this party with my friend, and...!'
Melissa: Some lady in the corner's like, 'My shoes! There's champagne all over my shoes.'
John: This might be the record for flashbacks, this episode.
Melissa: It's possible.
Jessica: I think it might be.
John: And now putting him in the power position above, up on the balcony.
Jessica: Very nice.
Melissa: And if you'll notice Jennifer Pearson is on the phone, you know, calling in the wrath of the FDA.
John: The strike team of the FDA.
Chris: FDA strike team. In the other version there were FDA guys coming down on ropes.
Jessica: Yes, paratroopers!
John: Like Aussie fast-rappelling?
Melissa: We didn't have time but it was beautiful!
Chris: We had to cut it.
John: Because in the Leverage-verse, people care about whether your kids were poisoned by their food. Not the real world, of course, but in the Leverage-verse! They take that very seriously.
[Laughter]
John: I—some time we should put a wiki page together about where in history the Leverage-verse is different from the real universe, to explain why these changes are in place.
Marc: I don't know if we've done that before, the, uh, headline pull-back.
John: I don't think so, we've done the—we've done the CNN pull-back.
Marc: Yeah.
John and Jessica: [start talking at the same time]
Jessica: I'm sorry.
John: No, go ahead.
Jessica: I was just gonna say, I think that from now until the end is probably the most fun I have ever had on set. Like just, Katie and Hardison, and—I tell you, again I'm mixing up all the names—but like, this whole scene was just so much fun to watch the actors play. Like, it was really, like—
John: Yeah, 'cause having looked at the—looked at the dailies, they dialed up a couple different variations of this, you know.
Jessica: Yeah. It was so much fun.
Melissa: We had a long conversation of how intense their hug should be at the end.
Jessica: Oh my gosh, yeah.
Melissa: Rosco and I were both on the, 'a little less intense, maybe with a couple of little taps on the back'...
Jessica: Yeah we actually discussed should there be a tap or not.
Melissa: Jessica would've been fine with a long makeout session here.
[Laughter]
Jessica: I was like, ‘can they—can they kiss?’ It's true, I...
John: Now, I would also note by the way, I made a change in the script here, because in the original fantasy sequence, she kills the girl with a beer bottle!
Jessica: She did not kill, she moved towards with some malicious intent.
John: She threw the beer bottle in one draft, and dropped her!
Chris: This was like the first draft of Fatal Attraction.
John: She dropped her like a sack of hammers!
Melissa: We did have to dial up and down Parker's violence.
Chris: We said we couldn't kill the victim.
John: No, in her fantasy sequence, she did it, but it was—I remember laughing at the time, but I was like, ‘Wow, somebody who wrote this script is working some shit out.’
Jessica: Just really worked out this stuff.
John: So you're saying you've had this fantasy sequence? 'I can propel this beer bottle at 700 miles an hour across this bar.'
Jessica: I'm not admitting to anything...This has nothing to do with my life.
Marc: Katie played this part great, where she just—just the little look, she's just, 'Maybe I should go.'
Melissa: She knows what's going on.
John: Because she's both emotionally sensitive and afraid for her life.
Marc: Yeah.
Jessica: 'That girl just crushed a beer bottle with her bare hands, I will make my exit.'
John: 'You're sweet and clueless, I'm out. I got a couple million dollars and a—and a new list of people I can help, I'm done.'
Melissa: 'This has been fun.'
John: In my head she goes and forms like another little, a very earnest, law-abiding Leverage team with the money.
Jessica: I kind of want her to have her own series!
John: She's on the CBS show. Like, you know—earnest college-aged kids out solving, uh, doing the right thing.
Chris: You have a million-dollar idea there.
[Laughter]
Jessica: TNT, anyone from TNT listening to this?
John: Gina played this really well too, that she's sort of, and—look, the kind of vague frustration that they're utterly clueless. And getting outta here. ‘I'm gonna punch someone.’ Now this is wonderful. This is a wonderful scene.
Jessica: I just love them.
John: And because, again, if you go and you look at the script—and someday we'll publish these, um—it can—we didn't put a lot in the stage directions here. I don't think there was anything in the stage directions.
Melissa: It's very spare.
John: It's—it's just dialog, and they're making all these emotional choices.
Melissa: Mm-hmm.
John: Very nice.
Jessica: Roskin, I think it was your decision, wasn't it you that was crushing the beer bottle? Or was it you that came up with doing it twice?
Marc: I actually think Tim came up with doing it a second time. I think it was Tim who came up with that, yeah.
Jessica: It's a collaborative medium.
Marc: Did I just give an actor credit?
John: Don't do that.
Jessica: Um, we're going to need to rewind and re-tape that? Yeah.
Marc: We give each other points.
John: It's also nice, it's also a nice callback, a joke that we do regularly, that she has inhumanly strong hands. That nice—that little moment there, is just when he, just when he, just acknowledges it and realizes that the dynamic in the relationship has fundamentally shifted in a way that he is more equipped for than she is.
Jessica: Yeah.
John: And that look down, and...up, up, go up, go up—there you go! And then back down.
Melissa: Yeah. A fun moment to watch them play.
John: Went out on a very neutral look, which is nice. And that's, uh, The Double Blind Job, which is a fantastic, fantastic episode, really, really a lot of fun. Thanks so much for watching, and, uh—well, you'll be back in six more episodes, right? Come back and talk to us.
Melissa: Yep.
Jessica: Yeah, just can't get rid of us.
John: Six Guinesses from now.
Melissa: With Roskin again.
Marc: Yeah!
Jessica: Yeah! We got him twice this year. Alright
John: You're not tired of him yet, are you? 'Cause we are still [unintelligible].

Red. Everything went red. Your vision blurred as a flame curled in the pit of your stomach. You enter the building with a firm step, walking through the hallways, anger building inside you, trying to take over the sadness you didn’t want to feel. Your phone vibrated in the pocket of your jeans, you reach for it only to see the name of your sister on the screen. Memories weighed down on you, but you would not allow yourself to break down anymore. Instead, your heart turned ice cold and slunk into the shadows as your brain took complete control. You screamed in frustration and threw the phone against the nearest wall. How dare she call you? You took a deep breath and tried to calm down.
“Are you okay?” a voice called from behind you. You turned to face a man you had never seen before. He was tall, with long dark hair for his shoulders and piercing steel-blue eyes. His face changed once he saw you, going from worried to shocked.
“Y/N?” he asked cautiously, his voice was so soft, with a hidden hope you didn’t catch on.
“Do I know you?” you asked, not really caring for him, but getting annoyed for how he was looking at you.
“Is it really you?” he asked again, not believing what his eyes were seeing. Maybe so much brainwashing had really messed with him.
“Look dude, it’s really not a good time,” you wanted to leave, but he grabbed your arm, not forcefully, but with enough force for you not to have the chance to leave. You yanked your arm from his grasp and realized that where his left arm was supposed to be, there was, instead, a metal arm. Who the fuck was this guy?
“Don’t touch me,” you rebuked. Waves of fury rolled off you as the blood rose to your cheeks. The term anger barely even touched the tip of the volcano that you so clearly were in that moment.
He took a step back, not wanting to upset you even more, but he could not help himself, he needed to know if it was really you. He wished it was really you.
“Y/N, Bucky? What’s going on here?” the voice of Steve Rogers flooded your ears, and you let out a sigh of relief.
“Ask your friend,” you said before giving a not-so-friendly glare to the guy before picking the pieces of your phone and making your way to your room, leaving the men behind you.
You groaned in frustration against the pillow. You were such a bitch when you met him. There were times when your brain fries up. It was no excuse you know; you owned your behavior. It was like a trigger flicked inside you. Your emotions turned cold, fearful, anxious... You back away, flee or strike out at someone. Those are the moments where you’re not proud of who you are. You fail to be the warrior you were always told you were born to be. Instead, you show the frightened child within, damaged and afraid, the one still hiding from the monsters under the bed. You knew these are things you have to work on. You had spent so much time caring for others, pouring out love without measure, yet never receiving it in return. So like a stupid child, you hold out for love.
Now you understand why Bucky acted so weird around you that day in the compound. He remembered you. He remembered you from that night in the dance hall. But… how could he? It hadn’t happened yet. Well, technically yes, but at the same time, no.
“What are you thinking about?” Wanda pulled out from your thoughts, you turned your head to look at her.
“Nothing,” you lied.
“Y/N, we’ve known each other for a long time, I can tell when you’re lying.”
After a few minutes in silence you finally speak up, “I was thinking about the first day I met Bucky,” the tone of your voice betraying you.
“Y/N, you just find out your fiancé cheated on you with your sister. It’s normal you acted the way you did. You were angry.”
“And what about the other times?” you sat up and faced your best friend. “I had been nothing but mean to him.”
That morning you woke up later than usual so when you entered the kitchen, the breakfast was long gone. You groaned, you really needed a coffee.
“Sorry kiddo,” Tony patted your back before leaving the room. Sam and Steve made their way to the gym. Wanda and Nat were chatting on the counter, and the new guy was standing a few steps away from them looking at you. Again.
“Do you have some problem with me?” you asked annoyed, alarming the girls of your presence. They turned to look at you. “You are always staring at me.”
“S-sorry,” he muttered, tearing his gaze away from you. You rolled your eyes and made your way to your friends. “Here,” he offered you a mug of coffee. “It’s still warm.”
You looked at him confused, “You always drink a cup of coffee in the mornings, so when I noticed you weren’t coming anytime soon, I poured one for you in case you would come out later,” Nat and Wanda shared a smile on their faces, melting at how sweet the former winter soldier was being.
Your reaction was very different, though. “I want nothing from you,” and you left the kitchen, leaving the guy with a heartbreaking look on his face, and a shocking one on both of your friends’.
“You can do nothing to change the past, what has happened has happened. But you can change from now on.”
“You think I still have time?”
“You’ll have to try”
You had hurt Bucky so much; you took out all the anger you felt inside you on him. It was unfair. No matter how badly you treated him, he always sent a smile your way, he had been nothing but nice to you. You were a horrible person.
Everyone had their reasons for being how they were. Some people get past their troubles and grow mature, others get stuck in a sort of basic mode of fear and reactions, loving responses becoming absent or portioned out for personal gain. You were the latter type.
Tumblr media
This had been the ninth time you checked to see if Wanda was really asleep. You felt like you were sixteen again and you were sneaking out of your house to meet your boyfriend. But you needed to go to the dance hall, needed to see if he would still be there.
You made the pillows form the shape of your body and covered them with the duvet, and you tiptoed out the room.
You walked through the Brooklyn streets one more time, those streets, so familiar but at the same time, so different to you. You spotted the dance hall you were in last night. The night where you met Bucky, and you danced with him…. you kissed him. Immediately, you felt the heat rising to your cheeks when you remembered the feeling of his soft lips on yours. You. brushed your thumb across your lips and a smile crept its way across your face.
You searched through the club, looking for the soldier. What if he wasn’t here tonight? What if he had already met someone else, and he’s dancing with them? You disliked the pit that formed in your stomach when your head was clouded with the thought of Bucky with someone else, holding them the same way that he had held you, showing them that beautiful smile of his….. his lips on someone else’s.
“Looking for someone, doll?” you turned around at the sound of his voice, even though you hastily left last night with no explanation, he didn’t seem mad about it, his face still plastered the same smile.
“H-hi.”
“You’re going shy on me now, doll?” he asked, “What happened the previous night? Never had a dame running away from me so fast,” he joked.
You chuckled lightly, “Sorry.”
“It’s fine, no worries,”
The same song that you danced to last night started playing, your eyes caught a few couples starting moving to the music. When you turned to look at Bucky again, he had his head tilted to one side and a hopeful smile playing on his lips.
You stretched out your arm to him, “Shall we?”
He didn’t think twice and took your hand in his. “So, what made you come back?” he asked. His hands were on your hips and your arms wrapped loosely around his neck, just like last night while you swayed to the music.
“I wouldn’t miss the opportunity to dance to our song one more time.” you were feeling pretty bold, and you liked it, and by the grin forming on Bucky’s face, you were sure he liked it too.
“Our song?”
You hummed. “That’s our song. So you can’t dance it with anyone else,” you replied, “Just me.”
He chuckled, “I have no problem with that, doll.”
As you both kept swaying to the music, you leaned towards his body and let your head rest on his chest. You felt the way his heartbeat quickened and smiled, knowing you were the cause for it. All of your thoughts stopped. It was like your heart took over your head when you were with him. You realized that you never felt this way when you were in Jake’s arms.
You wanted a love that was passionate and determined, fire with earth, yet was also a serenity soul that you could dwell in forever. When the song finally ended, you felt his intense gaze on you, and your insecurity took over, “Is everything okay?” you asked looking at him.
“If I kissed you now, would you run away from me again?”
You laughed, and shook your head, “No, not again.”
“Promise? Because my heart wouldn’t be able to handle it again.”
You looked into his blue eyes, and you cursed yourself for not realizing before how beautiful his eyes were… every piece of him was beautiful. He was a masterpiece. You didn’t answer his question, but instead, you stood on your tiptoes and closed the gap between the two of you before he could say anything else.
Tumblr media
“I’m telling you, it’s her.” Bucky was losing his nerves to the disbelief of his best friend.
“Buck, it’s been over 80 years, there’s no way it’s her.”
You were the exact same replica of the woman that stole his heart back in 1942 in that dance hall. It was you. He was sure about that. No matter how crazy it would have sounded.
If he and Steve were still here, why couldn’t you be too?
“Alright, then why didn't she recognize you?” Steve wasn’t trying to be mean, he knew his friend really loved that girl since the second she bumped into him. But he also knew that the chances of it being the same person were slim. Maybe you were her granddaughter. But that wasn’t an option Bucky could consider.
“I don’t know,” the soldier didn’t have an explanation for that. Maybe they had brainwashed you the same way they did with him and you forgot about your past… about him? If that was the case, he would try his best to make you remember. “But I will not lose her again.”
He wouldn’t give up on you. Not again.

SteveTony Weekly - May 2
Tumblr media
I know I say every week that I read a lot this week but I have been indulging in my favorite coping technique and so this list is ridiculously long. Twitter encouraged me. Blame them.
**Indicates my recent favs
~*~
On the inherent homoeroticism of cake decoration by welcoming_disaster (616/8K)
“She’s matchmaking, Barton,” Carol sighed.
“We,” Thor corrected, thumping himself hard in the chest, “art matchmaking.”
“Who, Cap n’ Tony?” Clint asked, his mouth full.
“Cap and Tony,” Janet confirmed, cutting herself a thin slice of egg and gently depositing it on her whole grain avocado toast, “it’s getting ridiculous.”
“Wait, I thought they were—“ Clint frowned, glancing around the room as though to confirm. Nothing but confused faces met his questioning gaze. “Huh. I really thought they were fucking.”
“And there is the crux of the issue,” Jess licked a bit of spaghetti sauce off her lip.
“Aye,” agreed Thor, “there’s rub.”
-----------
The team tries to set up Steve and Tony. Things don't go as planned.
Baby lovers like you and me (never say die) by FestiveFerret (Old Guard AU/7.5K)
The Avengers. They'd found him frozen in the ice, told him he was immortal, of all things. And with the way he'd lived through seventy years deep in the Atlantic, he found himself inclined to believe them. They'd also been very… convincing.
Without question, they integrated him into their unit - The Avengers, a secret team of unkillables seeking wrongs around the world and making them right, supported and housed by an enigmatic billionaire named Tony Stark. Their immortality, it seemed, was a secret to everyone but him.
Ready, set, bake by ChocolateCapCookie (Great British Bake Off/11k)
The Avengers are on a nationally televised baking competition, but nobody seems to have warned the producers that the Avengers, while they save the world everyday and put their loves at risk doing so, are a) insanely competitive, and b) absolutely terrible bakers. Steve Rogers, especially, has a competitive streak a mile wide, and he's determined to win this competition, but it's not easy when his only real opponent is also the man he's been in love with for years.
***To make flowers grow (in this barren heart) by SoldiersShield, KakushiMiko (Hanahaki AU/16K)
“You hide yourself away in your technology, but you are just as human as the rest of them. Your heart betrays your desire to possess.” Her gaze falls to the arc reactor, and Tony's blood runs cold in his veins.
“The Earth will reclaim what we have lost,” she says, dragging a hand over the chestplate of the armor. “It is you, and your kind-- your greed that pulls life from the soil as if it were nothing. You will reap what you have sown, Stark. The avarice in your heart will strangle the very life out of you.” Arna meets his eyes once more, a serene smile on her face as she leans forward.
“I hope he is worth dying for,” she murmurs, before digging her hand into his ribcage.
(Tony Stark falls in love with Steve Rogers. A rogue enchantress ensures he pays for it.)
Shelter from the storm by silkspectred (KidFic/5k)
Tony adopts a baby. Guess who's Majorly Fucked Up™ about it.
Keep on beating by itsallAvengers (Domestic Fluff/6K)
There were an awful lot of things Steve loved about Tony. But one thing in particular Steve could never get enough of was his heartbeat.
The good or bad thing by petreparkour (Multiverse/10k)
“It’s the metal suit,” Thor informed Steve, his normally-booming voice tinny over the SHIELD comms. “What did Stark call it—Iron Man?”
“But he’s down here,” Steve protested as the Hulk roared in Stark’s face, startling him into waking with a shout. “How could—”
“It’s damaged,” Thor reported. “But it looks different. More advanced. And he—ah. He’s carrying you, Captain.”
“Please tell me nobody kissed me,” Stark breathed out, and then Stark’s voice suddenly came over the comms, but the man lying next to him hadn’t moved.
“Guys, come on, you’re killing me here. What is it, 2012? God, I hate time travel. First, I'm fighting Thanos. Now, I have to deal with my past self and Thor's bad haircut? Oh my God, Cap, yes I hacked their comms, they’re my comms.”
Steve nearly opened his mouth to protest that he hadn’t said anything when he realized that this replica of Tony Stark wasn’t speaking to him.
***The tipping point by nightwalker (Domestic Fluff/7K)
Tony has a few quirks. Steve's still trying to figure them all out.
We two, how long we were fool’d by glassessay (Soulmate AU/9K)
Steve Rogers comes into the world as unblemished as his mother. When Anthony Stark is born, his soulmark is an obvious pattern of ink across his tiny chest.
It only takes a century, two names, and a shared love of Walt Whitman for them to find each other.
The tape in the cave by betheflame (Canon Divergent/5K)
Steve had no idea what was happening.
“You think I didn’t know that?”
Tony was staring Zemo down as though the Sokovian was actual vermin - which, Steve reflected, he kind of was.
“You think that I,” Tony continued, not hiding the sneer in his voice, “Anthony Stark, who has more powerful technology in my literal fingers than most nations have, that I wouldn’t know everything possible about how my parents died? That I wouldn’t know it wasn’t an accident, that your silly little HYDRA Nazi knock-off pals are the ones who murdered them? Please, you are pathetic.”
Happy ending by Robin_tCJ (No-Powers AU/28K)
Steve is a mobile massage therapist, and Tony is a stressed billionaire. What could go wrong?
With a decent happiness by torigates (Teacher AU/16K)
Tony Stark is Iron Man. Steve Rogers isn't, and never was Captain America.
Or, the one where everything is the same except Steve is a kindergarten teacher.
Nothing left but scars by SailorChibi (MCU/6.7K) - Reread
Steve wakes up to the fact that no one ever compliments or even says thank you to Tony, and that he has fallen into the same trap of painting Tony with a specific paintbrush.
This is how he showers a very confused Tony with praise to make up for it.
Our hearts should remember and follow by frostfall (MCU/5K)
Steve hums. “I didn’t know you could play. Or sing. Don’t think I’ve heard anyone mention it before.”
Tony shrugs. “It’s one of the few things, skills, I don’t flaunt. Not something people are interested in, anyway. Not gonna sway any board members by playing fucking Für Elise for them. Sides’, there’s a high chance I wouldn’t even play. Well, maybe if you get me drunk enough and near an instrument. Then, I might reconsider.”
(After a dream leaves Tony rattled, he turns to the piano as a way to distract himself.)
Finally, you and me by pensversusswords (Multiverse/10K)
Because in every layer of time, in every conceivable dimension, he was always meant to love Steve.
By some miracle, Steve was meant to love him back.
***Full disclosure not required (but appreciated) by Potrix (Identity Porn/16k)
The one where Steve knows more than he lets on, Tony knows less than he pretends, Clint has a big mouth, Bucky is a little shit, and everyone learns why keeping secrets never ends well.
Almost never, anyway.
Heartlines by nanasekei (MCU/7.9K)
“Let me,” Tony repeats. He regrets it deeply, so much, he wants to stick the words back into his mouth again, and it must show, in the way his voice wavers. He feels exposed, all of a sudden, as if he’s asking something bigger than what he can actually say. Let me touch you, let me take care of you. “Just… Let me do it.”
i found a way to let you in, but i never really had a doubt (marriage series) by quidhitch (Marriage Series/16k)
Tony Stark doesn’t believe in marriage. It’s nobody’s fault. —Well, it’s Howard's fault, probably, but Tony doesn’t like to think about that for too long, finds that it dredges up all sorts of issues he’d rather keep buried under a mountain of strategically employed sarcasm, humorous self-deprecation, and the occasionally effective substance abuse.
***Hide your love away by sineala (Soulmate/33K) - Reread
Tony has suspected for a long time that the soulmark on his chest matches Steve's -- but he's never told Steve about it. And then it's too late to tell Steve anything at all ever again. In the wake of Steve's death, the Skrull invasion, and Norman Osborn's rise to power, the identity of his soulmate is just one of the many things Tony cuts out of his memory forever.
When Tony returns to consciousness, he's forced to deal with the aftermath of a war he no longer remembers fighting, not to mention a Steve Rogers who can barely stand to be in the same room with him. Surely the last thing Tony could ever need in his life is more amnesia. But that's what he gets. And Tony's new missing memory just might be the key to finding out the truth of his soulmark... as well as his chance to make things right once and for all.
Break the chain (can’t live in circles again) by orphan_account (FWB/19K)
There had been seven amazing weeks of dating Steve Rogers before Tony realised that they weren’t dating at all. And then it was a scramble to adjust to the situation as it had always been: being Steve’s friend-with-benefits.
And if Steve seemed a little confused and bewildered by the way Tony was acting, well. Tony was probably just misreading that, too.

Rhodey is away for almost six months now and comes to meet Tony after the mission. He doesn't understand the domesticity of the whole Tower and unknowingly sets off a whole truck of insecurities which make Tony crawl back into being a Stark instead of just Tony. The team is not at all happy and Rhodey joins them in trying to figure out a way to help their resident genius feel better in his skin.
The single biggest problem with communication by BlossomsintheMist (616/108K)
In the wake of Steve's return from the dead and the end of Norman Osborn's reign of terror, the superhero community is recovering--Steve has taken on a new role and Tony is trying to put his life back together. Things are still awkward between them, but they're determined to put things to rights. But when a discussion about their feelings leads to further misunderstandings, they discover that might be more difficult than either of them realized. Set in the early Heroic Age after the end of Dark Reign, this is a get-together story about crossed wires--and second chances.

Y/n and Steve ended up falling asleep, which was a bit embarassing especially on his part. In the end tho they woke up around two in the afternoon and were starving. You also thought about the fact that Helen must've already set in by now. After cleaning up a bit and getting redressed the two actually went to separate directions, Steve to the gym because he had a bunch of new recruits to train by three sharp, while Y/n was heading to the kitchen.
-FRIDAY, would you call up ms Simon for me?- she found Tony, Vision and Thor in the common room so she quickly greeted them.
-Hey guys, taking a break?- she smiled when Thor got up to greet her properly. He was such a physical and affectionate person. He reminded her of a golden retriever; huge, with long hair and a heart of gold. Your smile widened when he bent down to press his ear to her belly.
-Well yes darling, do you forget that aside from kicking some ass every now and then we're basically jobless?- Tony joked. Both he and Vision were looking at you two.
-How is your pregnancy going, Y/n?- Vision asked in his posh and polite manner. She tilted her head to the side. Thor still touching the smooth and round surface. She didn't mind at all.
-It's going smoothly, thank you. Tho if I have to be honest I can't wait to at least give birth. I love my belly but it's so complicated to live with. I also miss actually moving around and exiting the tower. I don't think I've ever been so still and babyed in my life.-
-If it was an easy job, God wouldn't have gave it to women.- they all turn around when you hear an unfamiliar voice, which they soon found out to be Helen's. Thor stands straight in all his tallness and gets in front of her protectively.
-Who are you?- he asks suspiciously. She put a hand on his arm to calm him down.
-It's okay, Thor. This is Helen Simon, she's my new midwife. The one me and Steve hired this morning.- her head turns quickly to Tony then back to Helen. Tony stands up, fixing the invisible fold in his tracksuit pants and smugly walks to the older woman.
-Stark. Tony Stark. I actually hired you, but I'll let the happy couple have the glory.- he joked and you shook your head amused. They shook hands and then Vision introduced himself as well. Thor just acknowleged her with a nod. It's not like the God of Thunder had to introduce himself.
-Okay guys, see you later. I'm starving so.- you decided to cut it, but obviously Tony had to sneak in a joke. Had to.
-I'm sure cap worn you out.- Thor, which didn't know what timing was, bless his heart, decided to burst out laughing. You rolled your eyes not looking back.
-Jealousy doesn't match with your shoes Anthony.- you clapped back, still hearing Thor laugh and Tony calling him out.
A few feet down the corridor there was the kitchen, and when Y/n finally tought that her and Helen could have a minute alone, they found Wanda intently reading a book while she mover her finger around to spin the teaspoon in a mug. She looked up when they entered the room. Her finger stopped working and so did the spoon, the faint magenta colored aura disappearing.
-Hello?- she said, tentatively. Y/n ignored her cold stare and walked to the fridge taking out the leftover chicken and some salad to mix.
-She's Helen, the midwife me and Steve talked about.- there was a subtle warning in Y/n's voice. She thought 'Be nice' in her mind, and when Wanda sighed she knew she read her mind.
-Nice to meet you. If you'll excuse m- - Wanda was about to get up from the stool but the old woman's voice stopped her.
-You aren't eating that chicken cold are you? How old is it?- she walked closer, grabbing the plastic box from her hands. Both her and Wanda were a little taken aback by her bluntness, and shared a look.
-Uh..Yeah? I was actually going to put it in the salad. And it's..I'm not sure, a couple of days old? Still perfectly fresh and untouched.- she answered trying to reassure her, but she wasn't having it at all.
-This isn't eating healthy. If you want a healthy baby you need to eat properly. I'll take care of your meals from now on. - she stated, putting the box aside. - The non pregnant teammates can risk getting sick with that chicken. - Wanda's gaze darkened and her eyes took a light shade of red.
-What's that supposed to mean, old lady? - Y/n saw her fingers starting to move around with the corner of her eye and put her own hand on hers.
-Helen didn't mean anything, Wanda. She just meant that I have to be extra careful in comparison to the rest of you, ok? Don't you have to be somewhere right now?- she asked in the most calm way. The last hting she needed was Wanda yeeting Helen out of the tower on the first day. Wanda closed and picked up her book and mug, walking towards the exit of the kitchen.
-I mean, I'd like to go to the terrace to chill, but I can't.- Y/n frowned while sitting on a stool. Meanwhile Helen had already started to inspect their whole frige.
-I can feel Bucky and his girl going at it so yeah, I did not plan to watch a live performance.- she choked on water and the old lady turned around with a rather disgusted face. Wanda just shrugged and left them. The girl turned towards the older woman with an awkward smile.
-Welcome I guess.- the short fake laugh was over as soon as Helen sat in front of her, her hands conjoined in front of her.
-This isn't good.- the girl shifted uncomfortably, then uncosciously starting to rub her belly as a sign of comfort.
-What isn't?- the lady sighed. -First off, there are way too many people here. This place is chaotic, the people aren't giving you the peace that you need. This isn't a baby-space. At all. I just looked into your frigde and there isn't a single thing ready or 100% healthy probably except vegetables. Y/n if you want to be a good mother and be healthy for your baby you need to change a few things.- her words at first irritated her, setting off her protectiveness towards the people she called family, but then as she went on, she made her feel little. Like a little girl who wasn't good enough. She sighed silently.
-What would you have me do then?- she asked. Helen shrugged, still mantaining her perfect posture.
-I'm not gonna suggest you to buy a new place, because where you'll live after the baby is born is your business, but..- she paused, -I can offer you to come live at my place for these last two months or so. I have a nice, peaceful place a little outside New York. I already had eight of my patients do this, it's not so absurd.- she explained like it was the most normal thing in the world. Y/n was listening, but she wasn't convinced. She decided that she had to think about it first. She had to know for sure that she was professional and competent.
-I don't know, Helen. I'll admit that it isn't the most tranquil place to live, but...these people are my family. They have always been by my side, pregnant or not. And what about Steve? The father of my firstborn?- she marked the last phrase, tilting her head to the side. A little habit she probably took from Wanda.
-Because they care about you. But in truth, tell me, aren't you feeling like a burden? Like you get into their business?- she mirrored the young woman's expression. Y/n didn't answer at first.
-You're really not going soft on this are you?- Helen released a dry laugh. Shook her head and paused before talking.
-Yes. I began working as a nurse unofficially when I was 13 years old, during the Prague Spring reforms in '68. The hospital was in short of nurses so.- she explained, -That time wasn't easy. Not that the one before it and after it wasn't, that is. You either grow a thick skin or you don't survive.- Y/n felt for her, as she had a very similar destiny. First she doesn't know how she ended up in an orphanage, and then when she was fifteen and nobody took her, they kicked her out. She was homeless for a year until SHIELD recruited her, and the rest is history.
The older woman got up and took some vegetables, washed them and then placed them down to slice them. Y/n got up as well and started helping. She eyed the fresh eggs, so she guessed that Helen wanted to make a quick frittata.
-How did you end up in America? As midwife, nonetheless.- she asked.
-Why most foreign people come to America? Certainly not the food.- The woman responded with a slight hint of irony. The girl chuckled.
-Touché.-
-In any case, I've been here more than half of my live, moved many states mainly for my own choice. Being a private midwife pays decently.- she paused to dump the sliced vegetables into a pan with a little oil and salt.
-I became one because I was fascinated by the whole process that the woman's body goes through both before, during and after birth. I assisted two of my older sisters, and in the end ended up doing it as a job.- Y/n nodded, listening.
-That's actually amazing. But if I can ask, you do not have kids yourself?-
-No. Didn't have the possibility at first. Then decided that just it was my profession but not my future. No regrets.- she answered even tho the girl could sense that something was off. She decided not to intrude.
Silence fell between them while they were cooking, and the younger woman took the popularity to think about what she said. The woman was practical, a bit harsh maybe. But she also had a lot of experience. She didn't like the thought of leaving her family, but she had to admit that she often felt like a burden lately. More than once someone stayed behind to look after her, and even tho they didn't seem to mind at all, she did. She wasn't used to being so pampered and looked after, and sometimes she almost felt suffocated. Guess that spending many years of your life having to take care of yourself takes a toll on you.
She didn't want to decide anything without talking it out with Steve first. And it wouldn't be permanent, just for the last couple months or so, until she had the baby. If she really thought about it maybe she needed some time to reconnect with herself, to learn how to take care of her baby in the best way possible. Even the stupidest thing like cold chicken could potentially make her sick, and it was such a small thing. But that doesn't change the fact that she didn't knew. She wasn't one of those moms who surrounded herself with books teaching her every do's and don'ts, but at this point insecurity was kicking in. The last thing she would ever want was to be a bad mother even before actually becoming one.
-
Between a baby shop and another, and a whole new diet including an embarrassing amount of tea, Y/n finished her eight month of pregnancy. She was feeling as tired and as big as ever. Helen actually helped a lot both with the cooking, the health tips and with the shopping. She actually sobbed when they bought the crib. Both because she was emotional, a bit because hormones and also because Steve was again away on a mission. The whole team was actually. They had new leads in the Hungarian case and another completely different mission in South Korea, a tough one. So it required the whole team split up. That was the fist time Y/n was left alone since she knew she were pregnant. It all went smoothly, the tower actually felt quiet for once.
Y/n and Helen had found a nice dynamic, and most of the time spent time in a comfortable silence, each doing their thing. A downside that she wasn't realizing was the distance that was slowly creeping from her to the team. They didn't really like the midwife that much, Wanda, Thor and Bucky especially didn't like her at all. But Y/n felt for her, she felt like she knew her better than them so she often took her side, which hurt them back.
Steve on the other hand wasn't realizing it almost at all. All he cared about was his wife being healthy and that she got along with the midwife. They didn't sleep together often anymore, due to the fact that he was often away and she was constantly tired. Bruce did warn her at the beggining that this 'enhanced' baby would've probably tired her out, and it did at first but then she was feeling very well. She and Helen both blamed it on the tiredness of the pregnancy as a whole.
The last straw was when some of the guys, specifically Sam, Thor and Peter, whom didn't live at the tower and was rarely involved in missions because of Tony, went to see them and in some way, nobody actually know how, they made a whole ass hole in the floor above the library. Fate wanted that Y/n and Helen were reading just a few feet away. If they were just a bit closer to the door, they would've been hit by the pavement pieces.
Helen gasped and jumped out of her seat, book still in her hand by the corner. The younger woman on the other hand was more mad than anything.
She rose from the armchair, struggling a bit and marched towards the now destroyed door. The damage wasn't so bad, but it was still damage and it could've been way worse. She was fuming.
-Y/n! Shit are you okay? - Sam yelled from above. The three guys looking down from the hole they created.
-I'm so sorry it wasn't me! It was Thor! - Peter joined in and caused the God to respond, and from that a whole lot of mess arose.
The people who weren't on a mission, which were Wanda, Bucky and Tony, came running.
Y/n didn't know where to look and all of a sudden started felling a bit suffocated. She brought a hand to her forehead, distubed by the chaos arouns her.
-Stop! Fucking stop it! - she yelled, groaning from frustration. Everyone stopped talking while the girl started to feel her eyes prickle with tears of frustration.
-Why is never, ever a single day if peace in here? There's always someone around, making a mess, making noise, complaining- - she almost stumbled on a piece of ceiling that had fallen, but Bucky and Tony were right behind her and helped her stabilize herself, but she shoved them off.
-Leave me be!- she exclaimed frustrated. She huffed, trying to take a deep breath. -I'm moving out.- a chorus of 'What' arose. Bucky stepped forward and grabbed her wrist gently.
-What are you talking about?- his eyes showed confusion and panic.
-And when would have you decided this stupid thing?- Tony crossed his arms and went straight up 'Tony Stark' on her. Y/n rolled her eyes, ignoring both questions and walked out of the now damaged library. Helen followed suit.
-At least wait for Steve to return!- Wanda said. Thor jumped down, through the new hole in the ceiling and followed her like the others.
-Y/n, we're sorry! Look, I'm gonna fix the ceiling myself okay? Please don't go- Y/n's ached to see them upset, but she was tired. Too tired. She was afraid that if she had stayed more than she could withstand, their relationships could've been ruined. That was the last thing she wanted. She didn't knew exactly what was that overwhelmed her so much. She felt constantly tired and in pain, all the noise, number of people..it had become just too much. She needed to finish this pregnancy alone, or at least in a more quiet place.
She stopped in her tracks and exhaled silently. Her eyes passed through everyone in the room. Even in that moment, they were decimated because of the mission, yet there were still eight people in the room. When normally it would've been around 15. That's too many people.
-It's not your fault. It's not anyone's fault, specifically. I just.. I feel overwhelmed. There's too much going on here at the tower. And for me it's like seeing life go on without being able to do anything. I need some space, okay? It won't be forever. Hell, if everything goes well it's gonna be a month, at best. But I really, really need a break. I am going to pack and leave by afternoon, when Steve returns, just send him to the address that I'll leave for him. Okay? I love you guys, you're my family and I wouldn't be where I am today without you. Its just temporary.- she smiled softly, trying not to get emotional. Wanda was visibly upset, on the verge of crying. The others just looked sad, maybe disappointed. But nobody said anything, so she turned her heels and went straight to her room.
-
By five pm she and Helen were already gone. The older woman called them a cab, the driver took care of their stuff and then they were gone. Y/n was silent during most of the trip, both because of the extreme tiredness and sadness. She never changed home since she moved to the tower. She also thought about what she would tell Steve. She knew she couldn't contact him, so she didn't. They had left two days prior, so it was a bit early to know when he'll be coming home. But she knew a hundred percent that he would've gotten to her even before going home.
The two women were headed to the older one's house, which was in Avalon, New Jersey. Helen had told her about her beach house, quite far from the city. Y/n did actually fall asleep after the first hour or so, they had around three in total so she didn't worry about not waking up. By her surprise though, she did sleep throughout the whole trip, and yet, she was still tired. In those days her head gave her particular discomfort, so any noise at all really disturbed her.
Helen woke her up gently when they arrived, the she helped her get out of the car. Meanwhile the driver, which was a quite young man, probably around her age, which was 27, with curly black hair, stubble and dark green eyes, took their luggage off of the trunk.
-That's all. Have a nice stay.- he smiled slightly. Y/n frowned, what about the money?
-How much do we owe you?- she asked sweetly. He waved his hand dismissively, going back in the driver's seat.
-The lady already paid me, I'm ok. Bye.- he waved goodbye and drove off. Y/n and Helen dragged the luggage insider her villa, by which the girl definitely was taken aback.
-You didn't tell me that you live in a Villa?-
-Maybe, but I did tell you that being a private midwife pays well. I also need space if I want to take people living with me.- she explained. The first thing that you could see was the huge open space which showed a not exaggeratedly large living room with a window door on the right, on the left there was the kitchen and in the middle a staircase.
It wasn't very decorated, but the light palette of the whole place defines had a calming effect. Y/n was so used to the high rise and high technology of the Avengers tower that she had almost forgot how nice and intimate a normal house could be.
Helen showed y/n around a little, then ended up in the spare room, which had a large bed, a balcony and some essential forniture pieces such as a wardrobe, a vanity, a full length mirror, an armchair.
-This is really nice, Helen.- she smiled tiredly, caressing her big belly while she walked around. But as she was walking towards the balcony, she had a slight attack of vertigo, and her knees buckle for a second. The woman was at her side in a few seconds, helping her onto the bed. Y/n huffed, the back of her hand on her eyes.
-Why am I so shitty? I was pretty good until a few months ago.- she whined, and Helen shook her head while she stroked her arm.
-Every pregnancy is different, Y/n. You're just tired, from the car and that chaotic place.- the disdain in her voice didn't really pleased Y/n, but she didn't say anything. She didn't have the strength and besides, it's not like she was particularly liked at the tower anyway.
-I'll get you a tea, be right back.- Y/n chuckled.
-I drank more of your Hungarian tea than water in the last months.- Helen pulled a tight smile.
-Well, it is a traditional recipe for pregnant women. Not that you seem to mind it either.- the girl relaxed her eyes and discarded her sneakers to the ground.
-No, it has a peculiar taste but not bad.-
-Good.- and with that she left the girl alone. Helen went down the stairs, and turned on the stove to warm some water. She then opened a drawer, forcing the wood layer to come up by using her fingernails, pulling out an old fashioned phone.
She went to the contacts and dialed the only one there was. She waited a few minutes, when someone picked up.
-Igen?-
-Közeledünk. Készülj fel.- she said, hanging up.

SELF-DEFENSE
Request: Um can I request something with steeb🥺🥺👉👈 Maybe him teaching a reader to fight or drive or work out! Thank you❤❤ @donutloverxo
Pairing: Steve Rogers x (female!) reader
Warnings: smut (18+), PIV, lil bit of slapping, nothing crazy.
Word Count: 3062.
Note: Thank you for the request. Sorry it’s taken me so long, I’ve been afk from Tumblr for a while. Hope you still like it!
Tumblr media
It’s entirely too early in the morning when your phone rings. Shrill, high tones jolt you out of peaceful slumber. The sound forces you to open your eyes, brain ripped from the dream you were having but already can no longer remember.
With a groan, you roll over in bed, body tangled in pink satin sheets that you’ve managed to wrap entirely around yourself during the night. Blindly, you reach for your phone. Your hand slaps across the wooden nightstand next to your bed until you finally feel the vibrating device cramped between your stiff fingers.
Ready to curse at whoever dares to call you at this ungodly hour, you don’t bother looking at the screen to see who’s calling you. A single swipe and the phone is pressed up against your ear, breath coming out through your nose in short bursts of annoyance while you purse your lips in preparation for what’s to come.
“Good morning, peach,” you hear on the other end of the line.
Your breath hitches in your throat, and you instantly swallow the curses you were ready to spit at the caller down. A smile you didn’t know you were capable of this early in the morning blossoms on your face instead, anger long forgotten by the time you manage to form a coherent reply.
“Good morning, stud,” you say with a raspy voice, followed by a soft, sleepy chuckle.
“Did I wake you up?” he asks, a hint of amusement in his tone when he hears you yawn on his end of the line.
“Nah. I always get up at,” you look at your alarm clock, “five in the morning.”
“I’m sorry peachy,” he doesn’t mean it; If it were up to him, you’d never sleep, “I just wanted to hear my girl’s beautiful voice.”
With cheeks heating up quickly, you smooth out the soft fabric of your red nightgown. Buying it was, of course, Natasha’s idea. It’s not really your style, but somehow, she managed to convince you it is.
“How was your run?” you ask as you lay back down on the bed and take a moment to stretch your limbs.
“Wet,” he’s grinning, you can tell, “it’s raining.”
“It always rains in New York, big guy. You leaving tonight?”
The silence on the other end of the line confirms it; Steve leaves for another mission tonight. You’re used to it by now, but worrying about his safety sucks nonetheless, and a lump forms in your throat at the thought of missing him again.
“I was going to ask you what time you get off work. I want to see you before I leave.”
“One, I think.. two if it’s busy. Why?”
Steve sighs and shifts in his chair, “you know I don’t want you walking home alone at night.”
“Steve, I’ll be fine. I do it all the time. I’ve lived here my whole life, remember? I’m no stranger to this city.”
“I know you have, but I feel better if I walk you home. I’ll send an agent to pick you up. I have to go now, gotta get ready. I’ll call you tonight to make sure you’re home safe.”
Before he has a chance to hang up the phone, you interject, “you could teach me self-defense.”
It’s silent on the other end. For a brief moment, all you can hear is Steve’s quiet breathing and the clinking of coffee cups in the sink. You’ve suggested a self-defense class to him before, but the reply is always the same.
“We’ll talk about it when I get back, okay? Be safe, peach. I’ll call you.”
“Fine,” you sigh, “if you don’t wanna teach me, then guess I’ll just sign up somewhere in the city.”
“Don’t say that,” he groans audibly, “you know why I don’t want to teach you these things.”
“Steve, you can’t stay by my side every minute of every day. I don’t expect that from you. Nobody does. If something happens while you’re away, I need to be able to defend myself, and let’s face it, nobody is better at this than you.”
“I know,” he admits finally, “I just don’t want you to get involved in any of this stuff.”
“I’m not. I just want to be able to protect myself. Promise you’ll think about it?”
“Okay,” he says finally, “I promise I’ll consider it.”
Two weeks pass after that phone call. Steve gets back from his mission with only a few scrapes and cuts, but all of them heal before he’s even had a chance to see you. He’s glad because he knows you hate seeing him hurt, and you worry too much about him as is.
The sound of distant thunder outside the walls that currently surround you alerts you that Thor is in town again. Still, the raging storm outside isn’t the reason why you’re shaking in your boots.
You tug on the sleeves of your t-shirt and straighten the hem, wondering for a moment if you should’ve picked something more... baggy. In this giant room, you feel very exposed. The gym is a lot bigger than you thought it would be. Granted, you’ve never had a reason to come down here before, but knowing Steve spends so much of his spare time here makes you feel only a little bit at ease.
Steve watches you standing next to the shoulder press machine with your arms crossed when he enters the gym, duffel bag slung over his broad shoulders. He’s carrying two bottles of icy cold water in his hands; one for himself and one for you. He smiles when he sees you’re wearing the Tiffany’s necklace he got you for your birthday, and he can’t help but think you look adorable in your pink t-shirt and ruby work-out leggings.
“Hey peach,” he greets you with a small peck on your lips, “you ready for this?”
You nod and smile gently to assure him, but he can tell you’re nervous. A pang of guilt hits him deep in the chest when he eyes you carefully, afraid he’s pushed you too far this time. It’s one thing to expect his civilian girlfriend of one year to wait for him while he’s out kicking ass for sometimes months at a time. Still, it’s another to immerse you into the lifestyle, much less teach you fighting techniques.
“Born ready, stud,” you respond, sending him a playful wink.
He takes some time to go over general self-defense rules. He tells you to watch your feet, be aware of your attacker’s arms, and to keep your fists as close to your face as possible at all times. He touches your bare skin when he adjusts your posture a few times, and each time his heart twitches because the thought alone of you fighting off a mugger nearly has him losing his fucking mind.
He’s careful with you when you spar for the first time. Even though he would have absolutely no trouble sending you flying to the mat with only one hand, his touches are feather-light and soft. He allows you to hit him a few times, but he can tell he’s not the only one holding back. Steve wants to take it slow, but the sensical part of his brain knows he can’t teach you anything if he doesn’t apply any brute force.
“Peach,” he breathes after taking a break to think, “I need you to hit me.”
“What?” you gulp and bite your lip, doe-eyes widening when Steve places his hands on his hips.
“Is this how you’re going to fend off an attacker? By swatting their hands away from you? By pouting your pretty lips and batting your eyelashes?”
“N..no, but,” you stammer, “I don’t..”
“Come on then,” he urges you to step forward, “take a swing at me. Take me down if you can.”
You take a deep breath, mustering all the courage you have to swing back your fist. Before it connects with Steve’s jaw, he blocks it, twisting your arm behind your back until you’re facing away from him.
The sensical part of your brain quickly realizes you’re never going to win a fair fight, not against Captain America. Then again, you muse, he never told you you can’t fight dirty.
You think quickly, taking only a few seconds to concoct a plan that would make even Natasha proud if she saw it unfold before her eyes. Steve’s already tense, you can tell by how his jaw is clenched tight, and his grip on your arm is firm.
“That all you got, peach?”
He breathes down your neck, causing goosebumps to rise along your heated skin. In a desperate attempt to prove him wrong, you hook your leg under his and bend forward, trying your hardest to pull him down to the ground. Your ponytail flies in his face, allowing him to take in the scent of your shampoo while his rough, calloused palms find their way around your waist to steady you on the mat. Suddenly, you can feel it, pressing up against your lower back. You smirk for a split second, afraid he might see and realize what you’re trying to do, before pursing your lips again into a thin line.
Steve momentarily forgets what he’s doing when he feels you arch your back. His mind trails off, away from the objective of staying upright in position. You turn your head slightly sideways, hot breath fanning against his exposed neck in another attempt to distract him.
You sigh audibly when Steve’s lips press firmly against your throat, lips parting when the feeling of Steve’s muscles pressed tightly against your back becomes a sensation you’re both hyper-aware of. His t-shirt is thin. You can feel every ripple of muscle underneath the tight fabric that is stretched so thin you wonder how the fuck it hasn’t ripped.
The hammering of his heart and the rapid rise and fall of his chest causes your own heartbeat to speed up. In a final attempt to take him out, you once again shove him, sending all your weight into his trembling body. With a loud grunt, Steve loses his balance. His grip on your hips tightens when he allows himself to fall down onto the mat, taking you down with him in the process. The two of you wrestle for a moment. Still, Steve finds himself on top of you before you can protest, left hand tightly gripping both of your wrists while the other gently brushes a strand of loose hair from your forehead.
He leans down, lips ghosting your collar bones and neck before settling on your earlobe. You turn your head, but Steve grabs your chin with his free hand. Your entire body tenses up when his voice coats your skin in more goosebumps, and you wiggle against his iron grip when he whispers in your ear.
“Do you think this is fair?” he mutters, “wearing these tight leggings in front of me. You did this on purpose, didn’t you?”
Your pupils dilate, eyes darkening at the deliciously deep grumble in his voice.
“No,” you lie, “I swear.”
He’s needy. You can tell by the way he’s subconsciously grinding his hips into yours. You can feel every inch of his cock through his sweatpants through the thin material of your leggings, and the sheer size of it nearly sends you over the edge then and there.
Steve roughly kisses your lips. Teeth and tongues mash together harshly for the first time in over two weeks. He doesn’t usually kiss you like this. Still, you welcome it, lifting your head off the mat instead into a bruising competition of lips.
Your eyes glance towards the door, and you push against Steve’s heaving chest. He’s already grabbing for the hem of your t-shirt, warm fingers grazing your bare skin when you build up the courage to stop him.
“Wait,” you say, pulling away just as Steve’s hand glides underneath your top, “here?”
“I’m gonna take you right here, peach,” he says while groping your left breast and fondling with your nipple, “right on this mat.”
“What if someone comes in?” you ask, back arching when Steve’s lips once again latch onto your neck.
The warm, wet sensation of his mouth against the most delicate spot on your bare neck has your mind drawing a blank. Suddenly, you can’t remember why you even questioned him. Who the fuck cares if someone walks in, anyway?
“Fuck it,” you reply to your own question, “want you, Steve.”
His hand releases your wrists, allowing you to reach down to the hem of your top. You rip it over your head in one swift motion and toss it next to you, followed by your sports bra. Your tits spring free, bounce in his face. The moment the fabric lifts over your head, Steve’s mouth is on your already tweaked nipple, licking and sucking it how you like it best while you wiggle your way out of your leggings.
“Leave them on,” he orders, grabbing hold of the smooth fabric before you can pull them down all the way.
With your leggings and dampened panties stuck around your knees, your movement is limited. You struggle to open your legs when Steve’s fingers run along your wet folds and groan in frustration when he dips two fingers into your throbbing pussy.
You yelp when he takes his fingers out again and softly slaps your cunt twice with the palm of his hand. He takes his fingers and pushes them into your mouth, chest swelling when he realizes he doesn’t have to tell you to suck on them because you do it instantly.
Three fingers disappear into your pussy now, coated in your saliva and sweet, delicious juices.
“You’re so wet already,” he comments before claiming your mouth with his again so he can taste you on your own tongue, “tell me what you want.”
“I want,” you gasp when he curls his stroking fingers, “your dick inside of me, Steve.”
Your fingers grab at his sweatpants. You yank down the soft, grey material that separates his flesh from you until it falls past his hips and under his toned ass. Steve’s cock, fiery red at the tip and hard like granite, springs free from its confinement and twitches when you allow your fingertips to graze its entire length slowly up and down. Steve bites his lip and holds his tongue to stop himself from cursing, but a small fuck escapes his throat when you fist his dick and guide the tip to your entrance.
“Put it in,” he commands through clenched teeth.
You don’t waste time giving Steve what he desires. After quickly wetting his cock with your slick, you plunge it inside of yourself with a fiery need. A sinful moan escapes your pink, swollen lips, and Steve presses another hard kiss to your open mouth when your hands grab hold of his ass.
He thrusts slowly at first to get your walls stretched nicely around him. No matter how many times the two of you have sex, it always feels like the first time, tight and warm, and oh so delicious. His dick pulsates when he picks up the speed, relishing in the feeling of your fingernails digging painfully into the plump skin of his perfectly round ass.
“You like that, peach?” he locks his hand around your throat, “like it when I fuck you like this?”
“Y-yes,” you manage when he begins to squeeze, “feels so good, Steve.”
“Anyone can walk in and see you like this,” he moans, “you like that, don’t you?”
You arch your back into his chest, eyes screwing shut at the feeling of his weight nearly crushing you. When he reaches down to rub your clit, you almost lose your fucking mind, and he has to bury his head between your tits to stop himself from cumming before you do.
Your bodies are beginning to stick together. The scent of sex is now heavy in the air. If anyone enters the gym looking for a late-night run, they’ll find something they can never unsee—the unmistakable thrill of getting caught red-handed drives both of you nearly over the edge. However, at this point, neither of you can stop if that were to happen. Nothing exists except for the sound of rough breathing, explicit moaning, and skin slapping against skin.
Every sense in Steve’s body is on high alert. He can feel it every time your walls flutter around his aching cock. You can feel it too. His weight on top of you feels amazing. The soft, blonde hair that grazes your neck while his tongue swirls around your nipple feels even better. The sheen of sweat that drips from his chest onto you, you want nothing more. You never want this feeling to end.
“You gonna cum for me, peachy?” he mumbles against your bare skin.
You whine at the knowledge it will end because you feel the coil inside of your underbelly is close to snapping. His thrusts become sloppier, less consistent, and it feels as if he does deeper and deeper with every snap of his hips. There are marks on his ass from where your nails dug into the delicate skin, but it’ll heal quickly.
Your cheeks are red with heat when you cum, lips deliciously parted, and eliciting the most beautiful moans Steve has ever heard. Your entire body vibrates when the orgasm flows through you, breasts glistening with sweat as they bounce while Steve fucks you through it. He fucks you, continues to fuck you until his own orgasm rips through him. Hot spurts of cum cover your insides, and he nearly collapses on top of you, barely careful enough not to actually crush you with his bodyweight.
He stays inside of you for a moment while both of you catch your breath. After he pulls out, he hoists his sweatpants back up over his hips. He kisses you softly while he pulls up your leggings. They snap against your skin when they reach your waist, and he grabs your hand to pull you up off the floor. His cum is still inside of you, dripping into your underwear when you take his hand and follow him out of the gym.
It’s fine, you think, I’ll learn self-defense some other time.

Chapter 19
Bucky was having a lot of difficulty hiding his panic.  There were a lot of emotions coursing through him right now.  Fear, excitement, stress, confusion, happiness all surged through him, mixing to make him a highly anxious mess.  He welcomed those feelings.  He normally shut down so much while on a mission and retreated into his ‘winter soldier’ headspace that he felt nothing at all.  Seeing you in that hall with Viper attacking you, he’d reacted on instinct, firing his gun before he even considered all the ramifications of it.  It would have happened anyway, when he was the soldier he assessed risk quickly and acted without question.  Seeing you had just increased the urgency of it.
As Viper dropped to the ground the actual reality of what was happening crashed down on him, thrusting the soldier back into the dark and dragging Bucky right into the driver's seat again, and now he was crouched on the floor of what looked like an office, in a secret underground HYDRA base, cradling his son, and a crying infant, while you were on all fours giving birth to his daughter.
“Okay,” he said to himself as he tried to soothe the two crying children.  “Okay.  I’ve got this.”
“Bucky,” you wailed.  “Bucky… I don’t know what to do.  I can’t do this.”
“It’s okay, babe,” he said and rubbed Geo’s back.  “G, I need you to be really brave for me buddy.  I need some help.”
Geo shook his head and pushed his face a little harder into Bucky’s neck.
“Geo,” you said.  “Your sister’s coming.  And your mom needs me to help get him out.  I can’t do that if I have to hold you and the baby.  You think you can help me out?”
Geo raised his head a little and wiped his eyes.  He gave a small nod.
“Thank you.  I promise as soon as I can, I’ll pick you up, and you can sit right here if you want,” he said, as he put Geo down.  “Now I know this baby is crying a lot, but I need you to hold them okay.  You want to sit down and I’ll give the baby to you?”
Geo looked at you and scrambled back against a wall.  Bucky carried the crying baby over and crouched down again.  “Can you do this, buddy?”  He asked.
Geo nodded and Bucky put the squalling infant into the little boy's arms.  “I know it’s not fun,” he said and took his earpiece out and put it into Geo’s ear.  “Here, you can talk to your dad, or FRIDAY to distract you.  But I need you to be gentle and just hold the baby like that.  And when your dad is at the door, you can let him in, but don’t let in anyone you don’t know, okay?”
Geo nodded and Bucky pressed a kiss to the boy’s brow.  “You’re doing so well, I’m so proud of you,” he said.
Bucky didn’t feel great about leaving Geo with the baby, but there wasn’t much choice.  He returned to your side and knelt behind you.  “I’m here, honey,” he said, gently massaging your hips.  You hadn’t changed position since he’d left you - you were still on your hands and knees, but now your arms were bent and you had your forehead pressed on your forearms and your ass popped up in the air.  “You comfortable like that?”
“No,” you whined.  “But it’s the best I can get.  Bucky how is she?”
Bucky shook his head.  “I don’t know, babe, but I can see her hair.  She has your hair.  I bet she’s going to look like you.”
“Do I push?”  You asked.  “I don’t know if I should be pushing.”
Bucky chuckled. “I don’t know, honey.  Do you feel like you need to?”
“Yes,” you whined.
“Then push.  I’m right here.  I’ll get her,” he said, hoping he sounded more confident about this than he felt.
You moaned as you strained and more of the baby started to show.  Thankfully Bucky had paid attention to the birthing videos in class, because this had to be the weirdest thing he’d ever seen, and he’d seen some pretty weird things.  It was blood and messy and it looked like she was about to tear you in half.  “You’re doing great, darlin’.  Keep pushing.”
You strained again, bearing down and the baby’s whole head slipped free.  Bucky used his fingers to pull her chin free, and tried to get her shoulders into a better position.  “Looking good, honey.  Nearly there.”
The door opened and Bucky barely heard it over your moans and the cries of the infant with Geo.  Geo’s voice grabbed his attention though.  “Daddy!”  Geo said.
Bucky whipped around, first looking at Geo who was sitting in the corner with the baby and then to the door where he was looking.  Steve stood, filling the frame, his shield in hand, and standing in a defensive position as he surveyed the situation in front of him.  He quickly put the shield on his back and strode inside.  “Honey, are you okay?”  He asked, crouching by your head.
You nodded.  “They gave me something…” you said, sounding almost apologetic.
“It’s okay.  We’ve got you,” Steve said.
You winced and strained again, pushing.  Bucky helped wiggle the baby’s shoulders free and she slipped right out.  As soon as her body was free her tiny newborn wails joined the other baby’s cries.  “She’s here,” Bucky said, holding her in his arms and lifting her for you to see.  “You did it.”
You rolled onto our back and started to cry, and Bucky carefully put the infant on your chest.  With all the things he’d done in his life.  All the lives he’d taken, he had never been responsible for bringing life into the world.  It felt good, even under these insane and tense conditions.  He only took a moment to appreciate it before getting up and going to Geo.  “Okay.  You did so well,” Bucky said, taking the baby back from the boy.
Geo got up and scrambled over to you and Steve, crashing into Steve’s side.  Steve picked him up and put him on his hip.  “Did you help?”  Steve asked gently.
Geo nodded but didn’t say anything.  Bucky wondered how long it would take before Geo would be able to shake any of this off, or if he’d ever be able to.  How much can a kid go through before it does permanent damage?  “What happened?  Who’s baby is that?”  Steve asked.
“Can you help me sit up?”  You asked.  Steve helped you into a sitting position and let you lean against him.  “They’d been keeping other people here.  From the tests.  I don’t know if they’d had them from the start or if they only bought them in recently… but… they … they were breeding them, Steve.  Like they were animals. Trying to replicate Geo.  That baby… I don’t know if there are more, but his mother asked me to look after him.”
“Okay,” Steve soothed as you, babbled to him.  “It’s okay.  We’ll figure it out.”  He paused and held his hand to his ear.  “Tony… she just gave birth, we’re going to need a medivac… Alright… page me when it’s clear.”
“What’s happening?”  Bucky asked.
“They’re still rounding up the last of them,” Steve asked.  “Geo, can you tell if there are any other exits that our friends didn’t come through?”
Geo shook his head.  “I didn’t let ‘em out,” he mumbled into Steve’s neck.
“Good boy,” Steve said.  “You’ve been so brave and done so well.  You know that?”
“Steve… Steve…” you said, shaking your head.  “Steve we need to say he’s ours.”
“What?”  Steve asked, confused.
“There’s no record of him being born,” you said.  “No one will know.  We need to say he’s ours.  That I had twins.”
“Sweetheart,” Steve said, gently.  “You’re not thinking straight.”
“She made me promise if anything happened to her…” you implored.  “Please, Steve.”
Bucky looked down at the tiny infant in his arms.  He could pass for Bucky’s if not anyone else’s.  He was a little bigger than the little girl now on your chest, but barely.  Though, with the fact she was still attached to her umbilical cord, Bucky wasn’t sure how easily they could fake it.
“We’ll work it out,” Steve promised.  “I swear, he’ll come home with us.  You won’t break your promise.”
Tumblr media
It was another hour before the site was secure and a medical team managed to come and collect you.  In that time, you had passed the placenta too, and Steve had sent one of the legion down to the med bay for a clamp and he’d clamped off and cut the umbilical cord.  You and the two infants were taken by ambulance back to the tower and to the medbay.  The facility was state of the art and it meant that the baby - Gal - could stay with you because anytime that it was even hinted at that he be taken away, you would start to panic again.
Geo wouldn’t leave your side and he didn’t particularly like it if Bucky or Steve went anywhere either.  He stayed on your gurney on the ride out of the HYDRA facility and all the medical checks that you and he had to do, had to be done in the same room.
You, Geo, and the two infants were finally sleeping.  Geo was sleeping in the crook of your arm on the hospital bed, and they’d set up two more for Steve and Bucky to use because Geo didn’t want to have anyone separated.
Steve had used the opportunity to go sort out some of the legal paperwork and make sure that every i was dotted and every t crossed.  When he returned to check on everyone, he looked tired and frazzled.
“Still sleeping?”  He asked as he sat down next to Bucky on the couch in the corner.
Bucky nodded.  “They’ve been through a lot.  “It’s going to be a while before they get over this.”
Steve frowned and nodded.  “We should have been more careful.”
Bucky nodded.  “Can’t do anything about that now,” he said.  “We’ll be more careful from now on.”
Steve sighed and let his head fall back against the wall.  Bucky took his hand and linked their fingers together.  “It occurred to me while I was talking to Ross, we haven’t named our daughter yet.”
Bucky smiled.  “Yeah.  I guess that’s what happens when you take the ‘wait to meet her approach and then meeting her is an unmitigated disaster,” he said.  “It can wait.  She’s here and safe.  That’s the main thing.”
Steve nodded and let out a breath.  “Yeah…” he turned and smiled at Bucky.  “Look at you, choosing the positive side.”
Bucky laughed softly and shoved him.  “Jerk.”
The two men remained silent for a moment, just watching as the rest of their family slept.  “What are we going to do about Gal?”  Bucky asked eventually.
Steve shook his head.  “I’m not opposed to adopting him.  You know biology isn’t important to me.  But what if he has family out there?  And I mean that really… what if?  They have a right to know and they would have been grieving over his parents.  But if they want to raise him, what if they’re not set up for it?  And what if he has no family?  We’re having enough trouble trying to adopt Geo, and that’s with his biological mother’s permission.  What if they deem us unsafe?  And who could blame them, look what happened?”
Bucky frowned.  “What are you saying?”
“I don’t know… I guess…” Steve said.  “I guess I’m saying, maybe we should just lie about his birth.  Say they are twins.  We were the only ones there for her birth.  Who’s going to argue?  Some imprisoned HYDRA agents?”
“You’re seriously considering it?”  Bucky asked.  “That’s … kind of illegal, Steve.”
“Because I’ve never broken the law when I thought it was necessary,” Steve snarked.  “Did you forget I was a war criminal?”
Bucky chuckled. “Well, if you’re serious, I’ll support it, but you better decide one way or the other.  Because it needs to be done when we fill in the birth certificates, and we’re going to need to convince some doctors to back us up.”
Steve nodded and ran his thumb over the back of Bucky’s hand.  “I know,” he said.  “I have FRIDAY discreetly searching for his family based on what we know.  It’ll be easier to decide if we know either way.”
Bucky nodded and smiled a little.  “Be good having a great big instant family though, wouldn’t it?”
Steve let go of Bucky’s arm and wrapped his arm around him.  Bucky leaned into the embrace as Steve pressed his face into Bucky’s hair and inhaled.  “We’ll figure it out,” Steve said.
Bucky sighed.  He knew they would, it was just that there was so much.  He hoped the choice they made was the right one.

Headcanons for being Bucky Barnes’ adoptive child
Bucky Barnes x child!reader
warnings: knife
a/n:
prompt: @multifandomlover121: “i adored your natasha romanoff’s child headcanons! could you do one with bucky barnes and him adopting a child? thank you!!”
Tumblr media
bucky saw someone in need and wanted to help them
that someone was you
he would have wanted someone to do the same for him
“are you okay, kid?”
“i’m fine...”
“are you sure?”
“...no”
you kinda started crying and ran off
but that wasnt the last time he had seen you
the more he’d run into you, the more he’d check on you, offer you food/water/shelter
“i really don’t mind, it’s the least i could do”
“are you sure?”
“i am”
you began to trust bucky more as time went on, he really was helpinh you out of the kindness of his heart
and buck became more protective of you, of course
soon enough he saw you as his child and you saw him as your father, neither of you had had a bond like that before
“i’m going to the market, do you want anything?”
“uh, peaches?”
“got it, be back in a while, don’t answer the door for anyone”
“got it, pa”
that was the first time you called him “pa” and he shut the door behind him and stood there in SHOCK he was so ???!!!!
you asked him about his life, and at first he didn’t want to tell you much
“pleaseee? it all seems so interesting”
“well, i don’t remember it much. and everything i do remember isn’t very great”
“is that why you’re lying low?”
“yeah...that’s one of them”
“can you tell my how you got your metal arm?”
you tried not to pry but you were disappointed that he wouldn’t open up to you
he knew just about everything about the short past you had, all the highs and lows of your messy childhood before he met you
bucky lived in a one bedroom apartment, so he gave you the bedroom and slept on the couch
honestly you guys led your lives mainly inside the apartment just to stay safe
and filling the day was a bit difficult, but you managed
“can i watch tv?”
“after the news”
“you said that twenty minutes ago”
“well, it’s not over yet. just watch it with me”
“can i pleaaaase watch tv?”
that “pleaaaase” always makes him cave
you two also baked together! it calms his nerves
especially when he can smell cookies/brownies/cake/etc baking in the oven, it’s his favorite
“are you sure we’re making these right, y/n?”
“no, i am not.”
helping him clean his arm sometimes
he couldn’t get in the crevices
one day you were watching tv and it said that bucky was wanted for a bombing, which couldnt be true because that was in vienna and you were far from there
“so that’s what you didn’t want to tell me? you’re a...”
“a terrorist? an assassin? an 100 year old man? i...i wish i wasn’t, but i had no choice. i can’t remember everything that happened to me, but i don’t want to. this new life is good for me and you. and i promise i would never do anything to hurt you”
“i know, pa, i trust you more than anyone else on earth. but...what does this mean for us now? the whole world is looking for you”
“nothing, they wont find us here. i’m going to the market for plums, though. keep the door and windows locked”
“yes sir”
“love you, kid”
“love you, pa”
and the next thing you know the door has been opened and you do not know what to do so you hide because that’s the plan you and bucky came up with just in case and next thing you know there’s sounds of fighting, things breaking, yelling
it’s time to come out
“pa? pa, where are you?”
“y/n, get down!”
“bucky, who is that?” -cap
“my kid”
steve immediately: ????¿???
ur WHAT
anywhooo you ended up running with them and not able to keep up bc they were kinda enhanced 100 year old men and you were baby
so the falcon, the REAL DEAL MAN RIGHT THERE had to give you a helping hand
“you doing alright, kid?”
“to be honest, i’ve never flown before”
✨getting arrested with pa and the crew✨
you sat next to steve rogers
“so, you’re bucky’s...child?”
“he took me in a while ago, we were both in a dark place”
“has he told you about his past?”
“i ask but he cant remember most of it, and what he does remember, he’s too ashamed to say. he just recently told me he used to be an assassin...and he’s and eldery man”
“hey, whatever happens to buck—your dad, i just want to let you know that i’ll be here for you, okay? he was my best friend growing up, i owe it to him”
it’s a feat to be a minor caught by the CIA but look at you go
you had to explain how you and bucky became family, which they were not buying even though every word was true
releasing you to steve bc he had some pull
oh yeah bucky kinda sorta went feral and you insisted you’d be able to calm him down but it doesn’t exactly work that way
“pa! i’m right here, it’s me! please, stop it!”
“y/n, you need to get out of here, it’s not safe!”
“i can’t leave him like this!”
escaping the CIA and waiting for your dad to wake up, this is where he regained his full memory
once he was free of the debris, he gave you a big hug and apologized with tears in his eyes (why the fuck am i rhyming)
“i’m sorry if i scared you, dragă”
“i couldn’t ever be scared of you”
steve was so happy that bucky was happy dhshshshhshs
being pushed in the backseat with pa
sharing your granola bar
since bucky remembered some good thinsg about his past, he thought it may be time to share!
“yeah, so me and steve were best friends, right? steve always picked fights with every bully he met, despite being less than half the weight he is now. i always had to swoop in and save the day”
“i can’t believe you were born in 1917. my father is a world war two veteran”
“how impressive” -sam, also a war vet
honestly they didn’t expect THAT much resistance at the airport but everyone knew you were off limits
excellent spiderman who webbed your hand to a car
luckily, your dad had taught you a thing or two and you got to hacking through these webs with your pocket knife
it took forever
but you finally escaped with your dad and who you’d soon call ‘uncle steve’
black widow nearly stopped you, you were very afraid :)
bucky made u stay in the jet “for your own safety”
“we don’t know what to expect in there, y/n. the last thing i want for you is to get hurt. i should have never dragged you into this”
steve casually talking to bucky about you being unofficially adopted by him
“so, you’re a dad?”
“that i am”
“what’s it like?”
“it’s like...finding a reason to get up every day. and a decent amount of compromise”
“sounds exciting”
“you have no idea”
finally being retrieved from the jet to see your dad with one arm
trippin out
but he told you it was alright
t’challa, new king of wakanda who was trying to end bucky’s life just a few hours ago had apologized and offered you sanctuary in his country
he SPECIFICALLY apologized to you, saying that it was unfair to you by trying to hurt your father because the pain of losing one is unbearable in his eyes
getting some much needed peace (not really bc you wanted to train with wakandan warriors)
and it paid off since you all had to fight off a hoard of aliens
“you think you can handle this, y/n?”
“oh yeah”
you definitely could not handle your dad turning to dust :)
:))))))
“y/n? steve?”
no nope no
steve had to take care of you on bucky’s five year hiatus from life (oh my god im sorry)
not a day went by that you didn’t think of him
it kinda sucked bc you didn’t have any pictures together or anything, only pictures from the 1940’s that steve pulled out every once in a while
“doing okay, y/n?”
“not really”
“do you want to come and watch a movie with me or something? im still not completely caught up on everything i missed”
after five years, there was a breakthrough and it was finally time to get your dad back
but he probably wouldn’t recognize you...you’ll find out soon enough
