Can’t Stay Away’s Fic Rec Friday Post #4
12.22.23
Tumblr media
My ao3 Bookmarks (if it’s bookmarked, it’s usually a completed fic)
Fic Rec Friday Intro and FAQ
I can’t do multiple posts with elaborate reviews/commentary today. I just wanted to say that over the last few months, while I was grappling with this overwhelmingly depressive sense of doom, profound sadness, hopelessness, and apathy, reading fanfiction was one of the most effective types of escapism I engaged in.
So, here are the fics that I have been reading, keeping track of, and loving:
Almost anything @bardocksheadband-fanfics, but especially:
1. The Re-Education of Mr. Almehen
Tumblr media
Fandom: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Pairing: Nashuri
Summary: “Namor's life changes in all the right ways the day his student's aunt picks him up from school.”
What I Like About It: It may seem lame af to describe something as “tasteful” and mean it as a compliment, not a slight. I mean, this is a Suga Mama Shuri and a Baby Boy Namor (whom I call Ch’ah in my head) but not in the way you think. It’s a rom-com! It’s sexy, it’s funny, it’s adorable. And these two kinky assholes are in love! Also, he’s a kindergarden teacher; a good one. The way he is written with these kids just makes my ovaries quiver.
2. Filthy Mouth
Tumblr media
Fandom: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Pairing: Nashuri
Summary: Single father Namor goes on his first blind date and gets his world rocked.
What I Like About It: Almost the same as above, but in reverse! Though more of a straightforward relationship dynamic, not a kept man/woman scenario at all. More of a freak in sheets, lady in the streets situation. But again, there is love and devotion, as there always is with this pairing (well, when writers stay away from the darker dynamics of the ship). This is absolutely amazing. Superbly written, well-paced, tonally balanced, funny, sexy, and somewhat dramatic but not anxiety-inducing. Like, literally perfect.
_______
Almost anything @zzbottomz, but especially:
unfaithful
Tumblr media
Fandom: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Pairing: Nashuri/Loshuri
Summary: Shuri’s world unravels when she discovers her husband Namor’s infidelity, leading to a heart-wrenching divorce. Amidst the chaos, she finds solace in Loki, a charming entrepreneur with a complicated past of his own. As their unexpected romance flourishes, Shuri grapples with co-parenting challenges, the complexities of new love, and unresolved feelings.
What I Like About It: I mean, I didn’t think that a Love Triangle between Shuri, Loki, and Namor would be so intriguing. That it would be utterly confusing as to who you want to root for. That you would feel your heart beat for the plight of each character. There’s so much at stake, but especially the happiness of a little boy caught in the middle of the mess adults can make of their lives. It’s drama personified, and I live for each installment. Plus, Loki is written so well here, it’s hard not to root for him.
_______
A new writer, or a seasoned one, returned from a long hiatus, inspired by Shuri and Namor:
Before everything by stories_of_grace
Tumblr media
Fandom: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Pairing: Nashuri
Summary: A year after her mother’s death, Shuri burns her mourning clothes on the beach in Haiti and wakes up not only back in Talokan, but also back in time. Given the chance to do things differently, can she prevent her mother’s death and convince Namor of a peaceful alliance?
What I Like About It: THIS fic is everything I want in a Nashuri. It is another “What If” scenario, mapped and tread carefully. We’ve all imagined what could have been if it had been different, as Namor lamented on the beach that day just after he speared the Black Panther, right before she almost killed him and forced him to yield to her. Go read this! It is so satisfying!
______
There are others, but ta for now! Please enjoy your holidays!

list of young actresses of color who deserve to have more recognition and opportunities as actors like Florence Pugh, Anya Taylor-Joy, Kathryn Newton, Millie Bobby Brown etc. It would be refreshing to see more of these talented and underrated actresses of color
*Note, the list consists of actors born within the mid 90s-2000s. This might not be a complete list so whoever sees this is welcome to add more actors that I missed. I might update this post from time to time
This list has gotten so long that I have to make a separate one for male actors of color
Rachel Zegler-(she deserved way better than the hate over snow white)
Tumblr media
Lana Condor-(aside from x-men apocalypse and the to all the boys trilogy, she hasn't done much blockbusters compared to Noah, despite her being the lead in the latter films)
Tumblr media
Dominique Thorne-(She has her Ironheart and deserves more opportunities, both in the mcu and outside)
Tumblr media
Halle Bailey
Tumblr media
Maitreyi Ramakrishnan
Tumblr media
Lola Tung-(same example with Lana, pretty jarring how her male co-stars are getting work beyond the summer i turned pretty and yet there's nothing from Lola)
Tumblr media
Ashley Liao
Tumblr media
Megan Suri-(another cast member from Never Have I Ever who also deserves all the opportunites)
Tumblr media
Joy Sunday-(Bianca from Wednesday, deserves as much love as Emma Myers)
Tumblr media
Iman Vellani-(Ms Marvel/Kamala Khan herself, deserves to have a thriving career and be as big like Tom Holland)
Tumblr media
Ayo Edebiri-(2023 was a big year for her, hopefully it continues and she's not overlooked or overshadowed by her white co-stars in The Bear)
Tumblr media
Savannah Smith-(Carried the gossip girl reboot, she deserves to have as much recognition as Leighton and Blake did after the original Gossip Girl series)
Tumblr media
Madison Reyes-(Julie and the Phantoms deserved better than to be cancelled after one season and with a cliffhanger. Let her star in a musical and or disney film)
Tumblr media
Simone Ashley-(One of the main leads in Bridgerton yet Phoebe and Nicola have more upcoming projects than her in Hollywood)
Tumblr media
Charithra Chandran
Tumblr media
Arsema Thomas
Tumblr media
India Amarteifio
Tumblr media
Madeleine Madden-(Carried season 2 of The Wheel of Time and if you watched the whole season, you'll understand why)
Tumblr media
Moses Ingram-(Did not deserve the hate over the Obi Wan Kenobi series)
Tumblr media
Minnie Mills-(She deserved to appear in season 2 of The Summer I Turned Pretty)
Tumblr media
Amrit Kaur
Tumblr media
Alyah Chanelle Scott-(it's frustrating that both the main leading ladies of color are overshadowed by Renee Rapp and Pauline, who's related to Timothy)
Tumblr media
Letitia Wright-(Pretty jarring how she's been in plenty of mcu projects yet it's easy to count the number of roles she's been in outside the mcu, and has been acting since 2011, longer than Florence Pugh, Anya Taylor Joy and Millie Bobby Brown. Wright has even acted as long as Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams and they've been in more projects than her)
Tumblr media
Yasmin Finney-(She's done both Heartstopper and Doctor Who)
Tumblr media
Imani Lewis-(First Kill deserved better than being cancelled after one season. Let her do more horror and supernatural themed
Tumblr media
Leah Jeffries-(Deserves all the support especially once the Percy Jackson series comes out)
Tumblr media
Auli'i Cravahlo
Tumblr media
Erin Kellyman-(After the Han Solo film, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Willow, let her appear in more sci-fi and action blockbusters)
Tumblr media
Sadly, tumblr has a 30 limit on adding gifs. I definitely missed so many on the list. Anyone is welcome to add more to the list. All of these talented actresses deserve all the love, appreciation and more opportunities and roles
I might do a part 2 which will include male actors

RDJ could not be more right in saying he did some of his best work in Marvel but it got discredited because they were superhero movies.
And why it bothers me so much that Marvel movies are just disregarded is because it’s a genre that contains some of the best actors in Hollywood, past and present, acting their asses off.
Oscar Isaac - Moon Knight/X-Men Apocalypse
James McAvoy - X-Men
Michael Fassbender - X-Men
Hugh Jackman- X-Men
Jeremy Renner - The Avengers/Hawkeye
Elizabeth Olsen - Avengers/Civil War/Wandavision/MOM
Chadwick Boseman, Angela Basset, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai, Guirara, Letitia Wright - Black Panther
Samuel L. Jackson - the whole freakin’ thing
Tom Hiddleston - Thor/Avengers/Loki
Most of these people have been hailed by Hollywood and are decorated. Some of their best and most memorable work is contained in their Marvel projects but guess what? Film snobs wouldn’t know because they’ve said the genre is worthless because of CGI and silly plot lines.
You don’t like superhero movies? Fine. But you’re missing out on some damn good acting.

I would like to request about marvel cast x singer ari! Reader headcanon, please
Marvel cast x singer like Ariana Grande headcannons:
•Mackie would challenge sing-offs
•Sebastian would have a new karaoke buddy, it wouldn’t be every time in consideration of his confidence, but I’m sure you would help boost it.
•Evans would love a new car karaoke buddy, and you would definitely be it.
-He’d hype you up on high notes and try to mimic it once you leave the vehicle.
•Scarlett would love to have you join in on a live stream where she occasionally sings some of her old songs.
-She even sneaks a peek at you singing one of her newer ones when in the wardrobe trailer (who knows?)
•Ruffalo would be astounded, the kind and warm soul he is.
•Renner could never be jealous of your talents, but he understands his daughter’s appreciation for them and he wonders how you’d sing with his lyrics.
•Hemworth is not one to carry a tune, but you make him wish he could.
•Downey’s easy at boosting ego, but he’s kind with his compliments as ‘my daughter wishes you’d sing her to sleep too often for my heart, I don’t blame her though’ when you were too nervous to sing on camera per directors request for a scene.
•The Benedicts love dancing to your voice, they enjoy using your hums to get into character when the wifi is iffy or their music just gets repetitive for them.
•Paul Rudd is probably your biggest fan of all the cast members, but who can blame him when you have a vocal range as vast as the streaming options for film requests in the screening room?
•Brie Larson is one h*ll of a singer herself, but she appreciates your join-in when you’re over at hers for a house day or getting ready in the makeup trailer.
•Colbie Smulders? She’s a lover when it comes to your music, I’ve never heard so many pop songs come from her car (even before you joined the cast).
•The Toms? Their music taste is one of the most intriguing parts about them, but Holland can’t help himself with your classics and Hiddleston squeals when he hears your voice-whether it’s from a recording or live.
•Lizzie Olsen is not one to back away from some things and your joyous vocals are one of them, she can’t help herself when the light and airy tone of yours wafts in her surroundings.
•The directors easily get irritated by the interruptions on set by you breaking into song when something goes wrong, but why not break out or character completely when something goes awry?
•The crew is grateful they can hear you sing w/o having to buy tickets though they wonder if Corden will ever be able to get you on Carpool Karaoke if he can.
Honorable Mentions:
•Daniel Brühl is one heck of an Ari fan if I’ve ever heard one, but he beams when he thinks if you’re about to sing.
•Florence Pugh is always ready to listen to your music, but her expectations are always lifted when your voice starts.
•Emily Vancamp has broken character too many times if she hears you from afar, but it just makes her smile and she can’t help it.
•Hayley Atwell is not one to sing often, but her light voice carries and for it to mix with yours just makes her beam and get into it farther.
•Chadwick was only in a movie or so with you, but he was no stranger to your vocals even before he met you.
-He and Letitia had their fair-share of lip-synch battles to your songs, but neither of them have ever been willing to admit it.
•Xochitl has filmed one too many videos of her dancing to your music, but her moves and your lyrics are a Marvel-made match that won’t be beat (even by Florence and Toby sometimes, sorry Florrie).
•Hailee Steinfeld is just waiting for the day she can meet you on set and ask for a collab because your voices together won’t be beat (I see you collab of Stitches from years ago).

that was the most interesting part of the article how there wasnt anyone really under 40 to take the mantle of the previous generation and there isnt alot of actors under 40 that would make you go to the movies.
I think a part of that has to be how the media landscape and our access to celebrities have changed. The previous generation if you wanted to see your favourite actor you had to go to the theatres to see them. Now with social media, celebs are available through instagram, twitter, tik tok and your constantly bombarded by celeb updates, there opinions, video interviews which has led to an influx of people with parasocial relationships with celebs. The younger generation of actors have utilized these for their brands but at the cost that air of mystery that clear separtion between celeb and fan is gone. Fans can easily access to there favs on social media without ever having to spend the money to watch them in theatres.
That didnt really happen in the past like the previous gen of stars had an air of mystery to them you only had access to them through magazine interviews , red carpets, gossip but thats pretty much it.
Also vod and streaming has allowed people to wait and the cost of movie tickets are expensive. Studios looking for projects tht can make the most money rather make original and taking more risks etc.
I totally agree with all of this. 👍🏾💯
I think it's more so due to how the "celebrity world" has changed greatly due to social media. Then, there's also streaming.
Lots of factors to consider.
I also feel like studios are less likely these days to take risks or make films that may or may NOT become box office hits. 🤔 When you're only wanting to make films that are "sure things", you don't allow for RISKS, growth, or creativity in the film-making industry. 🥴
I need our generation of actors to step it up out here lol 😆 🙃 😂.... But I ALSO need Hollywood to take more chances on us. 😔
I personally think we have some really good solid, promising actors in the industry under 40 who have the potential for longevity and putting butts in seats....
Tom, Zendaya, Timothée, Florence, Anya, Austin, Paul, Michael B, Jennifer Lawrence, Barry, Chris Hemsworth, Halle Bailey, Callum, Mike Faist, Josh O'Connor, Jharell Jerome, Janelle Monae, Letitia, Nick Robinson, Taylor Russell, Jenna Ortega, etc.
The list goes on and on....
But Hollywood just has to take a chance on us as the younger generation, and allow us to build our own legacy. 🤷🏾‍♀️
Some haven't even had much time to really prove themselves. 🙃
I think another thing that's hindering the success and advancement is the fandom wars too.... 👀 Maybe I'm completely wrong, but I don't think fandom wars existed like this decades ago when the OG celebrities are younger and popular. I think back then ppl just embraced them ALL!
Ppl loved Julia Roberts AND Halle Berry AND Sandra Bullock.
People loved Denzel AND Tom Cruise.
People loved Ryan Philippe AND Paul Walker.
People loved Whitney AND Mariah.
People loved Ben Affleck AND Matt Damon.
Now days....??? 🥴 Now days, being a fan is almost like practically being in a darn near CULT lol 😆 😅
If you're a fan of X actor, then you mustn't be a fan of Y actor!! And don't you dare watch his films either because that would be a traitor-like offense! 🥴
See, when fans operate like THIS, it also stifles the growth and success of our generation's actors. 😔 Instead of making things a competition all the time, to me it's better to just support them all. 🤷🏾‍♀️
Anyway, those are just my thoughts.... Feel free to agree our disagree....

-And every five minutes I only heard squeals from girls and when I got closer, there was a guy with a cardboard, and ugh it just made me miss you - Phillip said while Shuri listened through facetime.
-I know you wished I could be there for prom but it's just impossible Phillip, believe me, I miss you too.
Then two heads appeared from the door, and what Shuri heard was two "hi" one coming from Peter and the other from yn, letting Phillip know it was dinner time, he closed the computer, and went to dinner.
May sat down and the dinner started, when yn came to eat, they'll always had some pasta made.
"Guys! You'll never guess what I found today" May said excited.
"What?" Peter asked
"One of your father suits! I think it would look good for prom" she said smiley and the twins looked at each other.
"I want it!" Phillip said.
"No, it's mine, I'm the oldest... So, it's mine, back off Phillip" the mentioned, got up so mad.
"It's not fair Peter! You have everything, you are an Avenger, loved by Tony Stark, You kept all of our parents photos, you have an amazing girlfriend you can see daily and taking to prom and now dad's suit! It's unfair." He storm off and locked in his room.
"Let him be alone for a bit Pete, then you can talk" Yn said calmly, the dinner continued but really awkward.
"Yeah, you are right, also I think our plan will cheer him up!"
"I'm sure it'll do" yn gave a little peek on the lips of Peter.
"What are you two up to?" May asked, but they just smiled to themselves and continued eating.
Hiii! Don't hate me, for doing two parts it'll be worthy! Promise.
Part two here

It took me four months to write this post even though i used to do it monthly. The last post was for January, this one includes films watched between February and May 2022. Eighteen films in total. I used to watch twice as many films per month. The war took its toll, I guess... 1. Favourite movies: Smilin' Through (1932), The Batman (2022), Scandal Sheet (1952), The Big Combo (1955), Rebecca (1940) 2. Decent movies I liked / appreciated but not loved: Woman in Hiding (1950), Lost Horizon (1937), The Thrill of it All (1963), The Blob (1988), Sleepy Hallow (1999) 3. Best scenes: the flashbacks (Smilin' Through, 1932); the car chase / Bruce and Alfred at the hospital / goodbye between Batman and Catwoman (The Batman, 2022); the final shootout / at the opera (The Big Combo, 1955); the final boss battle (Uncharted, 2022); explaining what happened to the builders in The Thrill of It All (1963); confronting Maxim (Rebecca, 1940). 4. Favourite genres: romance, drama, fantasy, noir. 5. Favourite directors: Matt Reeves (The Batman, 2022); Joseph H. Lewis (The Big Combo, 1955); Tim Burton (Sleepy Hallow, 1999); Alfred Hitchcock (Rebecca, 1940). 6. Favourite actors: Johnny Depp, Chritina Ricci (Sleepy Hallow, 1999); Doris Day, James Garner (Move Over, Darling, 1963; The Thrill of It All, 1963); Norma Shearer, Fredric March, Leslie Howard (Smilin' Through, 1932); John Derek, Broderick Crawford (Scandal Sheet, 1952); Robert Pattinson, Colin Farrell, Zoe Kravitz, Andy Serkis, Paul Dano (The Batman, 2022); Cornel Wilde, Richard Conte, Jean Wallace (The Big Combo, 1955); Tom Holland (Uncharted, 2022); Ida Lupino (Woman in Hiding, 1950); Ronald Colman (Lost Horizon, 1937); Lawrence Olivier, Joan Fontaine (Rebecca, 1940). 7. Least favourite performances: Armie Hammer (Death on the Nile, 2022). Not only was it incredibly uncomfortable to watch him due to his off-screen behaviour but the performance was so over-the-top I couldn't take it seriously at all. It was really hard, close to impossible. 8. The most wasted cast: everyone was okay at least. If I had to choose, I'd say Death on the Nile (2022) but it's not a bad film in itself. Tom Bateman, Annette Bening, Kenneth Branaugh, Russel Brand (random...), Letitia Wright, Emma Mackey, Armie Hammer, Gal Gadot, Rose Leslie, Ali Fazal, Rosie Dwyer. 9. The best wasted premise: Repeat Performance (1947). It's one of the films with the most wasted potential, and all due to an endless series of stupid decisions. Had the protagonist been smarter and less melodramatic, the film would have been a gem. 10. Best premise: The Big Combo (1955); The Batman (2022); Rebecca (1940); Sleepy Hallow (1999). 11. Favourite cast: The Batman (2022). Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, Colin Farrell, Paul Dano, John Turturro, Andy Serkis, Peter Sarsgaard. On a smaller scale, it's Smilin' Through (1932) with Norma Shearer, Leslie Howard and Fredric March (a small three-man gem of a film) and The Big Combo (1955) with Cornel Wilde, Richard Conte and Jean Wallace. I'm just finding out how amazing Richard Conte was as an actor and it's glorious! 12. Favourite on-screen duos: Norma Shearer x Leslie Howard / Norma Shearer x Fredric March (Smilin' Through, 1932); Robert Pattinson x Andy Serkis / Robert Pattinson x Zoe Kravitz (The Batman, 2022); Doris Day x James Garner (Move Over, Darling, 1963; The Thrill of It All, 1963); Cornel Wilde x Richard Conte x Jean Wallace (in any combination) (The Big Combo, 1955); Joan Fontaine x Laurence Olivier (Rebecca, 1940). 13. Favourite on-screen relationships: Batman + Catwoman (The Batman, 2022). They do them so much justice in this film that there's barely any competition. Lt. Leonard Diamond + Susan Lowell / Mr. Brown + Susan Lowell (The Big Combo, 1955). Both relationships are more than a little dysfunctional but so fascinating to watch! Steve McCleary + Julie Allison (Scandal Sheet, 1952). It's fun and easy to follow, and a bit cheeky. Moonyeen + Sir John Carteret (Smilin' Through, 1932). I liked Fredric March in the film, too, but it's obviously about the undying love between these two that makes the film as touching as it is). Maxim de Winter + Mrs. de Winter (Rebecca, 1940). 14. Favourite characters: Batman, Catwoman, Alfred, The Riddler (The Batman, 2022); Lt. Leonard Diamond, Susan Lowell, Mr. Brown (The Big Combo, 1955); Steve McCleary, Julie Allison, Mark Chapman (Scandal Sheet, 1952); Deborah Chandler Clark (Woman in Hiding, 1950); Maxim de Winter, Mrs. de Winter (Rebecca, 1940). 15. Favourite quote: Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again. (Rebecca, 1940). 16. Favourite fact discovered in 2022: Cornel Wilde and Jean Wallace were married when making The Big Combo (1955) and Ida Lupino was married to Howard Duff when he played her abusive conniving husband in Woman in Hiding (1950). I've also just found out the director of photography for Rebecca (1940), George Barnes, was married to Joan Blondell between 1933 and 1936. That's random... 17. The most overrated film: I think every film is pretty deserving of the reputation it has really. 18. The most disappointing film: Repeat Performance (1947). Just because had they made some smarter decisions it would've been a classic, and a really unique classic at that. 19. The biggest surprise: The Big Combo (1955). It's very tense, seductive, maniacal and powerful film. I miss those. 20. Best cinematography: John Alton (The Big Combo, 1955). It's absolutely marvelous! Greig Fraser (The Batman, 2022); George Barnes (Rebecca, 1940); Emmanuel Lubezki (Sleepy Hallow, 1999). 21. Best set design: Rebecca (1940), The Batman (2022). 22. Best costume design: Irene (Rebecca, 1940); Don Loper (The Big Combo, 1955). 23. Best music: Rebecca (1940). 24. Best prooduction choice: casting Robert Pattinson in The Batman (2022) and Richard Conte in The Big Combo (1955); practical effects in The Blob (1988). 25. Worst production choice: the script in Repeat Performance (1947) and the uncomfortably revealing Death on the Nile (2022). 26. Film of the month: The Big Combo (1955) and Rebecca (1940).

Endgame and passing the torch in the MCU
I think the a lot of the failings of Phase 4 and (so far) Phase 5 have been discussed at length.
But lately I have been thinking of one I haven't seen really discussed, and that is tentpoles/franchises. Iron Man, Thor and Captain America were the big franchises of the first couple phases. As such, they were (I believe contractually) always a big part of the Avengers team-ups.
It's those three characters that enter the battle with Thanos in Endgame together. Just the three of them.
Then everyone arrives and there was a symbolic passing of the Gauntlet to the three heroes I believe Marvel expected to be the next tentpole franchises: Black Panther to Spider-man to Captain Marvel.
Sadly, the Black Panther franchise was rocked by the loss of Chadwick Boseman. He really should have been the "new face" of Marvel coming into Phase 4. I think Letitia Wright did a great job in crazy circumstances with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. But I am still not sure she is a movie star the way Robert Downey Jr or Boseman were.
There wasn't anything Marvel could do about that loss, but it's felt in the lack of focus in Phase 4, for sure.
Tom Holland has arguably done his job as Spider-man. People still love his portrayal. No Way Home was one of the only huge hits in the COVID era. But now the future of that tentpole is also in question while Sony decides what they are going to do. I think this is something that could have been foreseen, unlike Boseman's death. Obviously Spider-man and the X-Men have been Marvel's most popular comic franchises for recent memory so they want Spider-man to be a big part of the MCU.
But wanting something and the ability to make it happen are two different things. And Marvel should've known there would be kinks in that process. They probably should've been laying the groundwork for a new deal with Tom Holland years ago. (Even if he wouldn't agree to anything before his old deal expired.)
I'm also surprised that they didn't have a Captain Marvel movie in Phase 4. I suppose Ms. Marvel was the entry that was supposed to make Carol's presence felt. And I do think Marvel really wanted that to be a huge hit. (They are going to air it on ABC near the release of The Marvels and I think that's a good idea to reach a wider audience.) I liked that show. And Marvel could totally still land this one by making The Marvels a big deal in November. TBD. But it seems late, and not just because it got pushed back a couple times.
... and then there is the weirdness that is the Thor franchise. This was the one of the "big three" that was continuing through Phase 4. And I think they whiffed it. They could have made that movie about passing the torch to Jane Foster Thor (which would keep with the themes of Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Hawkeye). They could have made that movie a way for Thor to enter the Guardians of the Galaxy world, and help transition the end of both of those franchises. They could have had it tie into Moon Knight and Eternals with the themes of "bad" gods.
This tentpole is holding up no tent. It doesn't serve the greater narrative at all.
Then characters like Doctor Strange and Ant-man were ongoing franchises that were never the biggest stars in Avengers films. And I think there was an effort to make them "matter more" by adding Scarlet Witch to DS, and making Ant-Man the first to confront Kang.
But I don't think the Multiverse of Madness did what Marvel wanted it to do. They could have positioned it as a big smack down between Strange and Wanda, who had grown in popularity following WandaVision and I think that could've worked as a messaging strategy. But the marketing was all about the multiverse and nothing really happened with the multiverse in that movie. I mean they went to two other realities and confirmed the multiverse exists. Except, you know, No Way Home came out first (which it wasn't supposed to but Sony didn't play ball, and they were probably right to do so since theirs worked and Marvel's didn't) so we already knew that. So it didn't add anything new really. Except that fans really want to see all the various Marvel film universes interact, and I think Deadpool will be the beneficiary of that lesson (which I could've told you from WandaVision alone), not Strange himself.
I was pretty "fine" with Ant-Man's showing. But a lot of people thought the third movie deviated too much from the charm of the earlier movies in the franchise. (One of the things people liked about Ant-Man was his more "regular guy" and smaller stories.) I think there was probably a better way to balance the tone of the first two movies better with the third. (Possibly less about the "Quantum People" and their struggle to make more room for Luis, Cassie's mom and step-dad and some of the other characters from the first two. (Glad David Dasmaltchian--Kurt and Veb--at least got to be in all three.)
I'm not sure I know what character is the "heart" of the Marvel stories anymore. They may be waiting for Sam Wilson's Captain America to break out in his upcoming movie, and for the Hulk rights to come back to them (because they are clearly setting something up there with the return of all his villains plus the introduction of She-Hulk.)
Also no idea what's going on with Shang-Chi and the Eternals. I do hope that Shang Chi and Kamala Khan are going to be important to the multiverse sage (see my ring theory post). But we have to wait and see how Loki and The Marvels land.

Come On In
Marvel Cast x Teen!Reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Main Masterlist
You were an up and coming actress
You’ve been on a few popular commercials and some small tv roles
You were absolutely amazing and that’s why Marvel had to have you
On set, you played the character well. Putting all types of emotions into it.
Off set, on the other hand, you were very reserved and shy. You only had one friend and you’ve known them since diapers.
Things happened in middle school and that just made you close off even more
So when you first got to the Marvel set, it honestly overwhelmed you a bit
Not only were these people outgoing, they were your idols.
People you’ve looked up to for quite a bit of your acting career
The cast welcomed you with open arms, yet you still didn’t come out of your shell.
When they hung out together, you often opted to stay in your trailer either reading a book or talking to family and friend.
It’s not that you didn’t want to talk to them; you did. You were just awkward and didn’t want to mess up any type of dynamic. It didn’t help that you were quite insecure.
The cast was obviously concerned and somewhat confused at first
They didn’t know if you weren’t comfortable or if you were just naturally shy
They all tried to talk to you with the occasional joke or sarcastic remark
You appreciated it; you really did
You just got stuck in your head sometimes and succumbed to the thoughts that those bullies implanted into your brain
Your friend would constantly try to convince you to open up to them cause they knew it would help you
One day, during your daily Skype call they suggested just making little doodles for them since it was something you enjoy doing (sorry if you don’t like doodling😬)
It was a nice idea and you took it into consideration
After the call you decided you’d start doing that the next day
So you drew a bunch of doodles for all of your cast mates and even some of the staff cause they need appreciation too
You didn’t really want to interact with anyone just yet, but you decided this would ease you into it
The next morning you stealthily gave your doodles around
They conveyed your gratitude for the welcoming behavior they had and how grateful you were
Eventually everyone found their doodles later in the day and thought it was cute
They were honestly concerned you didn’t like them for a second
It soon became an everyday thing and everyone was looking forward to their “daily doodle” as it had been named
A couple weeks later you thought you were finally comfortable enough to interact with them
So the next time they invited you out with them, you went
Everyone was surprised you hadn’t rejected but excited that they’d finally be able to spend some time with the new family of marvel
Sooo lemme know what you think about this. Honestly didn’t know how to end it and this was the best I could come up with atm. Anyway send request and I’ll do those.
