Excerpt from the one where Kon meets pink kryptonite and decides to fuck Tim and his boyfriend about it.
(The read-more is definitely necessary, length-wise. I . . . got very into this idea and frankly this is barely a third of it so far, lol.)
"So, uh . . ." Kon says, skeptically eyeing the softly glowing rock in his hand. Metallo, like, threw it at his head. He has no idea why. "Is this supposed to do something or . . . ?"
"It's pink," Kara says leerily, staying very firmly back. Like, unexpectedly far back, in fact.
"Yeah, I'm not actually blind, thanks," Kon says, turning the rock over and squinting at it. It continues not to do anything, aside from the glowing thing.
"No, it's pink kryptonite," she stresses.
". . . it literally doesn't hurt at all, though?" Kon says. Though he probably should've figured it was some kind of kryptonite, given that Metallo had it and had apparently thought he could hurt him with it.
Seriously, though, his gloves are fingerless and he's got it right in his hand. It should be hurting him, if it's actually kryptonite.
"Pink kryptonite doesn't work like that," Kara says, edging a little farther back. They're floating a few hundred feet in the air right now, but from the way she's acting Kon's vaguely concerned that he might be about to explode or something. "It just affects our sexual . . . urges."
"Oh," Kon says, frowning in confusion. Weird, but . . . "Is that all?"
"I don't mean like it makes you horny, Kon, I mean like it makes you homosexual," Kara hisses, looking mortified. "And don't ask how I know, alright?!"
Kon . . . blinks.
"What the literal fuck?" he asks incredulously, just staring at her. "How does that even–are you telling me Metallo went and chucked gay kryptonite at me in the middle of a fight?"
"Yes!" Kara says, still clearly mortified. "So just–just stay over there with it until somebody shows up with a lead box, okay?! The effects will stop after we get it contained."
"Alright, alright. So then do you think the dude was flirting with me or is he just a fucking idiot?" Kon jokes, balancing the kryptonite on his index finger with his TTK. "Although I really don't think he'd be my type either way. Like, nothing against cyborgs in general, obviously, just the whole thing with him being a murderous supervillain who literally runs on kryptonite seems like it'd make us totally star-crossed. I want somebody I can actually commit to, you know?"
"Sure," Kara says, still eyeing the kryptonite with serious trepidation. It's really not helping Kon feel less like a time bomb, to be honest. Is there like some other side effect that he should be worrying about right now or something? Like, is he missing something here?
"You seem kinda high-strung about this," he observes, raising an eyebrow at her.
"Look, you'd have avoided it too if you'd dealt with it before!" she says protestingly. "So stay over there and definitely keep it away from Kal, I don't know if Jimmy ever really recovered from the last time."
"Oh, well, congrats to Jimmy, I guess," Kon says, since he can't really see a downside to scoring a one-night stand with Superman. Like, a downside for somebody who isn't literally his clone, he means. The clone thing would definitely make it weird.
Just it's also Clark, though, so he'd probably be the generous type in bed. Like, the sort to really take care of somebody. Be as gentle as happened to be appropriate but also be down if his partner maybe wanted it a little rough for whatever reason. And he'd definitely be able to go all night. Again, Kon isn't gonna go there himself, it really would be too weird, but he can make a logical conclusion. Extrapolate one. Whatever.
Then again he'd be down with Power Girl absolutely destroying him whenever the fuck she wanted to and she's genetically his . . . some form of cousin or something, he guesses. His half-cousin from another reality. So really, Clark's not even that weird an option. And like, all appearances aside Kon's a binary clone anyway, not even a one-for-one match, sooooo . . .
Actually it's probably weirder that he thinks Power Girl is so unspeakably hot but comparatively Kara is just . . . fine? Like, that's a little odd, isn't it?
Maybe it's an attitude thing. Or the costume.
Might be safe to blame the costume, yeah.
It's just such a good costume. Like, Kon aspires to reach that level of costume.
But really, all that aside he still doesn't even know what the big deal about temporarily going gay is, although to be fair he's also currently talking to Supergirl and not, like . . . literally any dude whatsoever. So like, who knows how weird this stuff might actually make him under those circumstances. Maybe it like fucks with inhibitions and stuff too?
Yeah, hell if he knows. He's really only dealt with green kryptonite before. He was vaguely aware that other colors existed and apparently did different stuff, but . . . this just seems very different, put it that way.
Maybe best to avoid Jimmy Olsen for a little while, Kon decides privately. The guy probably doesn't need that.
Besides, Clark apparently got there first anyway and Kon just really doesn't want to be worrying about measuring up. Miss him with that, thanks.
. . . although maybe he'll go visit Tim later.
Eh, no, Kara made it sound like the pink K's gonna stop affecting him pretty quick once they box it up, so not much point in bothering. Though maybe he'll visit just to hang, come to think of it; they haven't seen each other in almost a whole week. Well, he hasn't seen Tim, at least–who knows how much Bat-surveillance Tim's seen him through.
Kon should maybe sweep his room for bugs again. Note to self.
Although would it be weird to just like . . . keep the pink kryptonite, maybe? Since it apparently doesn't actually hurt anyone or anything? Because that could be, well . . . just interesting, that's all. Like, Kon is open to exploring that experience. Just–as an experience.
"Actually, you're surprisingly not high-strung about this," Kara says.
"Am I?" Kon asks. "I mean, it's not that big a deal, is it?"
She stares at him.
"Kon," she says slowly. "Pink kryptonite affects your sexuality. It makes you attracted to people you're not normally attracted to. It confuses you and everyone around you and it is really freaking embarrassing to explain afterwards."
"I've been mind-controlled into shaving my head and breaking my best friend's arm," Kon says, continuing to not really see what the big deal is. "That was embarrassing. And fucking traumatic. This? This is just kinda weird."
"Only kinda?" Kara asks incredulously. "You're one of the straightest guys I know! How are you just fine with this?!"
"I mean to be fair, that's probably making some unfair generalizations about straight guys," Kon points out. Kara stares at him. "What?"
"I don't even know how to respond to that," she says.
"Sorry?" Kon says, then tucks the pink kryptonite into his jacket pocket with a shrug. He's not trying to hide it or anything; just getting kinda sick of holding it. And it's that or he either ditches it somewhere or starts tossing it around and that'd probably be . . . just, well, absolutely epically stupid of him.
Or it seems like it would be, anyway. Whatever color it is, it's still kryptonite.
"I mentioned keeping that away from Kal, right?" Kara says.
"Yeah, on that note, are they like . . . done down there yet?" Kon asks, glancing down towards the mess of the street that Clark's standing on a few hundred feet below with a whole bunch of randos from S.T.A.R. Labs, for some reason. Somebody mentioned something about neutralizing Metallo's kryptonite heart without actually killing him, but mostly it was science talk and clearly theoretical anyway so to be honest Kon'd kinda tuned it all out as "not currently relevant", and that's all he knows.
"Definitely not," Kara says.
"I'm gonna call Robin while we're killing time, then," Kon says, pulling out his phone.
"You're going to call your closest male friend," Kara says. "Right now. While you've got pink kryptonite in your pocket."
"Yup," Kon says, already pulling up Tim's contact.
"Can you not see how that might be a bad idea at the moment?" Kara asks. "Not in any way whatsoever?"
"Well I'm not calling Impulse," Kon replies reasonably. Kara stares at him again, for some reason.
Eh, whatever.
He calls Tim.
"Hey, Conner, what's up?" Tim answers distractedly, which Kon doesn't hold against him because when isn't Tim distracted, really. Dude's got too much going on in that head of his, for real. He's just glad the guy ever picks up the phone at all.
"So apparently I'm gay right now," Kon greets conversationally, figuring he should lead with that just in case he actually is about to do something embarrassing to explain. "Pink kryptonite is fucking weird, man."
". . . uh," Tim says as Kara covers her face with her hands. "What?"
"Pink kryptonite makes you gay, Kara says," Kon says. "And we're both just kind of chilling above downtown Metropolis waiting for Kal to finish up with the science-y people so we can get said pink K locked up, so I'm bored out of my mind right now and calling you to complain about it."
"You're calling me," Tim says slowly. "While you're . . . gay."
"What, is he asking to come over?" another voice asks from the phone, sounding amused. It takes Kon a second to recognize it, but–oh yeah, that's the mysterious Bernard, isn't it?
Right, Tim has a boyfriend now. Kon's never actually met him on account of being the worst at secret identities and the whole thing that is Bernard living very firmly in Gotham, land of "no metas allowed unless you're either a supervillain or Batman's too dead to stop you", but he's heard him over the phone a couple times now, although they've never actually personally talked. So maybe thinking about Tim while being high on pink kryptonite isn't actually, like, kosher? Or polite. Or whatever.
. . . then again, Bernard did ask.
"I don't know, maybe?" Kon says thoughtfully, considering the idea. "Are you open to me coming over?"
"Yes," Bernard says.
"Bernard," Tim says.
"Babe, I know we're pretending I don't know you're an ass-kicking vigilante and all but come on, don't make me turn down Superboy," Bernard says wryly.
"We're–wait, pretending?!" Tim sputters.
"Pretending so, so hard," Bernard confirms, sounding nothing but fond. Kon's actually a little jealous of that tone of voice, he's gotta admit. Like–it's been a bit since anybody's talked to him that way, is all. "But like, if you actually thought you were being subtle maybe you shouldn't talk about kryptonite on the phone right in front of me or put themed emojis next to all your superfriends' civilian names in your contacts list?"
"Oh my god, you do that?!" Kon asks with a gleeful cackle, immediately forgetting everything else in favor of that absolutely delightful piece of information. "You're the worst! Batman just rolled over in his grave and Oracle is absolutely losing her shit on the other end of her wiretap!"
"B's not even dead right now," Tim says in exasperation. "And if O cared she'd have already hacked my phone and changed them. And for the record plenty of people put random superhero emojis next to their friends' names, that's a totally normal thing to do!"
"Usually the random superhero emojis aren't associated with contact pics that are dead fucking ringers for said superheroes," Bernard says, sounding amused again. "Just as a thing and all."
". . . anyway so you're gay today, how's that going for you, Conner?" Tim says as Bernard laughs gleefully in the background. "Triggering any unfortunate mental health crisises or anything? Making you worry about the validity of your masculinity? Because I can safely assure you that's all bullshit and you're fine."
"Naw, I know all that, being gay is just a thing," Kon says with a shrug. "Kara's being a little weird about it but honestly it's going way better than, like, the times supervillains mind-controlled me into being into them. Like just as an overall experience, I mean."
"Wait, how many times has that come up?" Tim asks in bemusement.
"I dunno?" Kon shrugs again. "I mean you were there for the Poison Ivy incident, and then Gorgeous Gilly happened to me a while later, which was, uh, genuinely horrifying because she tried to literally marry me during all that, so . . . I think just the twice, probably? But don't quote me on that, I don't even remember what I had for breakfast."
"And how is Kara being weird, exactly?" Tim says in his very unsubtle "assessing my teammate's psychological condition" voice.
"Oh, she's mostly just avoiding me?" Kon says, as a guy who's personally not really all that concerned with his psychological condition at the moment. "Because I've got the rock in my pocket on account of not wanting to just leave it lying around somewhere and she doesn't want to get affected by it. I don't know why, I don't really get why it matters."
"I mean it matters, definitely," Bernard says. "Like it very strongly matters to a lot of people."
"Fair, but I think we're all too invulnerable to really have to worry about getting gay-bashed or anything," Kon reasons. "Like, at least not as a heat of the moment thing."
". . . god can you imagine the world we would live in if every piece of shit gay-basher had to deal with the consequences of punching fucking Superman?" Bernard says feelingly. "For real."
"Oh, pink K's temporary," Kon clarifies. "Kal's not gay anymore."
"Hold up, I'm sorry, are you saying that at some point he was?" Bernard demands in obvious delight. "Is that what you're telling me right now?"
"I guess he was into redheads?" Kon says, tilting his head. "Slightly twinky redheads, specifically. Which I don't blame him for, I'm gonna be honest."
"Well now I know that forever, thanks," Tim says dryly.
"Alternate option: he could've been into Batman," Kon points out.
"Redheads it is," Tim says. "You just . . . redhead away over there."
"I mean I thought about it, kinda," Kon admits.
"Ngh," Tim says, for some reason.
"No thinking about Batman, though?" Bernard asks with a snicker.
"Not so much," Kon says, making a face. "Did consider having some Superman thoughts but I'm apparently not that narcissistic, surprisingly enough."
"Kon!" Kara chokes.
"Tell me you've never considered having Superman thoughts and I'll tell you you're a fucking liar," Kon snorts, shooting her a dry look. "Weren't you like totally naked when you first showed up on Earth? And then he found you like that and wrapped you up in his cape all nice and gentlemanly and took you home with him?"
"He is my baby cousin and you're being affected by pink kryptonite poisoning!" Kara accuses, her face bright red.
"Wait, is it actually poisoning me?" Kon says with a frown. "I feel like you should've led with it actually poisoning me, if that's actually a thing."
"Well no, not actually, it's physically harmless," Kara says grudgingly, folding her arms. "But you're still being affected! You're having Superman thoughts, of all things!"
"He just seems like he'd be considerate," Kon says reasonably. "Like, you know. Biblically."
"Ngh," Tim says, again for no apparent reason. Bernard sounds like he might be laughing. Or choking? Or maybe both; it's unclear.
"Please don't hit on Kal," Kara says. "Especially don't hit on Kal with pink kryptonite in your pocket. I don't want to know how that situation would end up."
"Ideally with him being considerate," Kon says. Tim chokes. Kara covers her face again.
"Does pink kryptonite affect your inhibitions too or are you just always like this?" Bernard asks curiously.
"Eh, pretty sure I'm just always like this, going by the things I've definitely still not been forgiven for saying to Power Girl," Kon says, idly tapping a finger against the side of his phone case. "Like, pretty damn sure at this point."
"That is unfortunately accurate," Tim agrees resignedly.
"So you're saying it is ethically okay to have Superboy over while he's gay," Bernard says in a promisingly speculative tone. Kon grins. Just a little, but yeah–definitely he grins. Kara grimaces, because she is absolutely no fun whatsoever.
Spoilsport.
"I did not in any way say that," Tim retorts dubiously.
"I mean that's what I heard, man, and I'm the one with super-hearing in this conversation," Kon says with a wider grin. "My inhibitions are all inhibited and my personal opinions of people are all the same, I'm just currently batting for the other team."
"So your normal opinion of me is that if you were gay, you'd come over," Tim says dryly.
"Yeah?" Kon says, raising an eyebrow. "I mean, obviously."
"How is that obvious?" Tim says.
"Because I already come over every time you let me," Kon reminds him.
"Oh yeah?" Bernard says slyly. "And how often does he let you come, exactly?"
"Not often enough," Kon replies honestly, and doesn't even bite at the obvious dumb sex joke Bernard so thoughtfully set up for him even though it is frankly painful not to.
"Ngh," Tim says. Kon continues not to understand the reason for him repeatedly making that same weird little noise, but whatever, he guesses. It's Tim, maybe he's stitching his own bullet wounds again or something. Guy's a multi-tasker like that.
"You know this would probably make for a fascinating case study about sexuality, actually," Bernard says musingly. "I mean, all I intend to do is abuse the situation to get into your very tight tights, but seriously, maybe we should all be taking notes or something."
"Ugh, hell no, Rob'll go full Bat if we let him do that," Kon snorts, then smirks. "He can take pictures, though, I know he's into that."
"Ngh," Tim says yet again, accompanied by a weird random "thump". If Kon didn't know better, he'd think he'd just fallen off a chair or something.
"Aw dammit, dude, I think I actually like you as a person now," Bernard says, sniggering. "Are you keeping the kryptonite? Please keep the kryptonite. Like, just for Valentine's and Tim's birthday, that's all I ask."
"Honestly don't know if Superman's gonna let me but I do kinda wanna," Kon admits. It seems pretty convenient, really. And definitely fun.
". . . and you're sure his inhibitions and opinions aren't being influenced in any way, Kara?" Tim asks suspiciously.
"He's really just like this, yeah," Kara says resignedly. "Well admittedly Kal spontaneously developed opinions on window treatments and used the word 'smashing' in cold blood when it happened to him, but that might've just been him sucking at flirting. Because he really does suck at flirting."
"What about when it was you?" Kon asks curiously.
"No one ever said it happened to me," Kara says.
"You kinda implied–"
"No one ever said it happened to me," Kara repeats, narrowing her eyes at him and doing an impressively bad job of acting like she's not blushing.
So it definitely happened to her, yeah.
"Okaaaaay, we'll pretend about that too then," Bernard says. "Well, what are your opinions on window treatments, Conner?"
"That I don't know what they are," Kon says.
"Sounds like he's in his right mind to me," Bernard says.
"He is absolutely not," Kara retorts dubiously.
"I really don't feel weird or anything, I swear," Kon tells her, since he still doesn't get the problem but also doesn't actually want to worry her either. "I don't even feel any different."
"Kon, you are hitting on your best friend and his boyfriend," Kara says. "Together. At once. Simultaneously, one might even say."
"You've met Wonder Girl and Arrowette before, right?" Kon says. "And both the Batgirls? And–"
"Oh my god, Kon," she cuts him off.
"Just saying," he says, then pauses for a moment and frowns consideringly. "Actually, question, how gay is this stuff making me, because while we're on the topic of threeways I kinda always wondered about what Starfire and Nightwing get up to together and if–"
"KON!" Kara yells, covering her ears.
"I'm just asking," he huffs.
"I don't know if it's actually possible to be gay enough to not be into Starfire," Bernard says musingly. "Like I can't imagine how it ever could be."
"Right?" Kon says.
"It's possible to not be into Starfire," Tim says. "Like, theoretically. Asexuals and aromantics both exist, for one."
"Do they?" Kon says doubtfully. "Like in general, sure, but when around specifically Starfire?"
". . . I can't technically prove you wrong due to a lack of reliable evidence but still," Tim says. "The possibility is there. If nothing else the multiverse is a thing."
"Last time I saw her she was wearing half a gold lamé bikini and I am not going to tell you which half or define how loosely I am using the term 'wearing'," Kon says.
"I said it's possible, not probable," Tim says.
"What about you, man, are you the gold lamé type?" Bernard asks with a teasing snicker. "Just while you're gay and all, of course. That's like, practically a cultural thing. Gotta be authentic to the experience, yeah?"
"That is in no way whatsoever a cultural thing, babe," Tim says dubiously.
"Please, like I've never worn freaking lamé," Kon scoffs. "I've worn collars and loincloths and leather and crop tops and enough unnecessary belts to tie up a Bat, lamé is nothing."
"Collars and . . . loincloths?" Bernard repeats, sounding confused.
"Yeah, this one time I crash-landed on a lost isle of beast-men and they kidnapped and enslaved me for a few months," Kon explains, waving a hand distractedly. "Frankly I count myself lucky they even let me have the collar, much less the loincloth."
". . . um," Bernard says.
"You, uh, never mentioned the collar part of that story before, Kon," Tim says, clearing his throat. "You very definitely never mentioned the collar part of that story before."
"Oh yeah, the prince kinda kept me as his pet for a little bit?" Kon tells him with an easy shrug. "Like he and all his buddies ganged up on me and then took me home with them, but I was kinda . . . feral, I guess? Technically? So like, collar and chain setup. But he was cool, he took real good care of me."
"Ngh," Tim says just barely faintly.
"Yeah you should definitely come over," Bernard says. "Tim, get the check. Conner, exactly how super is your super-speed?"
"You can just call me Kon," Kon says. "And . . . mach 3, last I clocked it?"
"Isn't that like two thousand miles per hour?" Bernard asks.
"Two thousand two hundred and twenty-three point three," Kon replies with a pleased smirk. "Faster than a speeding bullet. Or so they tell me."
"We'll just meet you at Tim's, how's that," Bernard says. "That work for you, Kon?"
"That works for me, Bernard," Kon confirms, smirking wider.
"Oh my god, Kon, you cannot possibly be serious right now," Kara says in exasperation, rubbing at her temples. "Just because you're temporarily gay doesn't mean you should do anything about it!"
"I mean, I'm feeling pretty serious?" Kon says, shrugging again. He still doesn't get why she's being so sensitive about this. "It's not like this is the weirdest thing I've ever done in pursuit of a good time. Like, holy hell, lemme tell you about the Ravers sometime."
"You're going to have to look Robin in the eye after this!" Kara says. "And work with him! And be a normal person in his presence! Normally!"
"I'm aware?" Kon says, vaguely bemused by her concern. Like he's never been normal around somebody he's slept with before, geez. "Tell Kal I ran off with the pink K, if he wants to lock it up in the Fortress or wherever I can bring it back tomorrow."
"Maybe Monday," Bernard says.
"Or maybe Monday," Kon amends.
"It's Thursday!" Kara sputters.
"So it's a long weekend," Bernard says.
"I'm not explaining this to Kal," Kara says. "I'm not explaining this to Batman."
"I really don't see why you'd have to," Kon says. "Rob, you cool with the long weekend thing? Not too much of an imposition?"
". . . I got the check," Tim mutters in obvious and absolute mortification.
Kon's gonna take that as a "yes".
"Cool," he says, grinning broadly. "See you soon, Boy Wonder."
He ends the call. Kara drags her hands down her face and continues to stay very far away from him and the pink kryptonite in his pocket.
"When you go back to normal and freak out and make everything weird with Robin and your team and even Robin's literal boyfriend, I'm going to say so many 'I told you so's," she swears vehemently. "So don't say I didn't warn you."
"Your objection is on the record," Kon says, then tosses her a lazy salute with another grin and takes off, kryptonite and all.
Best to just scarper while Clark's distracted, yeah?
Definitely best.

“How did it go with the kid?” Bruce asked, while he was doing some research on the computer.
Clark came up to him, “He got himself taken to the top of Bristol saying his house was there.”
“Mhm…he lied, obviously.”
“Of course,” Clark groaned. “I've been keeping an eye on him because, you know, I wouldn't dream of letting just a kid go home in Gotham of all places. No offense."
“No offense taken,” the man said. “Have you seen where he lives?”
“You won't believe it, but he's your neighbor.”
Bruce muttered something under his breath, and Clark sighed, "You already knew that, didn't you?"
“I wanted to confirm my suspicions.”
“Sure…and what will you do now?”
Bruce turned to him, their faces very close, "What do you mean?"
“I saw the way you looked at him. You had the same look when you greeted Dick and then Jason. You're interested, aren't you?”
The billionaire replied, “He has very lively parents, Clark.”
“Parents who are not here, and who leave him alone. I don't know, this seems like a case of child abandonment to me."
“His family is rich. They will be able to afford the best lawyers. “
"You too. So why don't you try?”
“It hasn't even been a month, and you already want a child with me?” he teased, pulling him closer.
“What can I say, you influenced me."
“What a smart mouth… can you use it for other things too?”
Clark smirked, “Do you want to try?”
They were about to kiss when they heard a disgusted, “Urgh, what the fuck Bruce. Don't fuck in the cave.”
Ruined moment. The two heroes walked away, Clark's cheeks as red as his cape.
Bruce sighed, “Jason, language.”
“Yeah, not this shit. You went out on your date night without me. I bet the rooftops were warm tonight.”
Here's what happens when you deal with a teenager: jokes and double meanings about his love life. Good thing Dick was in New York, otherwise there would have been two of them making fun of him.
“We were investigating together. It was work.”
“As you said, old man.”
Clark coughed then, “Jason…we'd like to talk to you about something.”
“What?”
“What would you think about a little brother?”
Jason blinked. Bruce ran a hand over his face. Clark really didn't want to let it go, huh? He was about to intervene when his son blurted out, “You got Bruce pregnant?!”
"No!" Bruce immediately exclaimed. “Jason, we're both men.”
“Hey, he's an alien. How do I know how it works! Oh god, Dickhead is going to go crazy…”
"Nobody's pregnant," Bruce sighed, suddenly feeling very old. “We met a kid tonight and Clark thinks I should take him in.”
“Let me guess… he has black hair.”
“Yes,” Clark replied.
"Blue eyes?" Jason asked again.
“Yes.”
“Traumatized and weirdo?”
Clark thought about it before saying, “I'm not sure if he's traumatized, but he's definitely a…peculiar kid. He follows Batman to take photos to put on his Tumblr blog… ”
“He's definitely a weirdo,” Jason concluded. - There's nothing to do. You have a type, Bruce.”
Bruce groaned. What had he done to make people believe he had no impulse control… oh, yeah. He had literally kidnapped Jason. He didn't have a good record.
“Look, I'll check on him to make sure he doesn't get into trouble. If I see something that doesn't convince me, I will act accordingly.”
From the way Jason and Clark looked at him, it was clear that neither of them believed him.

Actually? Can't stop thinking about this possibly expanded Time-Loop Of Bad Ideas AU? Because EVERYONE could get one! That Idol was made for Life Lessons and good at it's job!
Why NOT Moar Loops~☆?
And? Was GOING to suggest the whole BatFam. But this time not together. BUT THEN? My muse(adhd brain) smacked me and called me a coward! Go BIGGER they demanded! That sexy, sexy genius(me)!
That bust was probably not in Gotham! Or at least, not FULLY in Gotham. Maybe it was Superman, maybe someone else, but SOMEONE saw the Idol when Bruce found it.
We have PROTOCOLS, Batman.
That YOU made.
GDI. He sighs, but admits it's true. And Magic Bullshitry means getting scanned for Curses and Compulsions. Everyone up to the Watchtower. *various Bat Children groans of annoyance* No getting out of it. Come on, better this then getting possessed.
They Zeta up. Annoyed but here.
It's late and they'll probably miss dinner.
Come to find out? Fuckin EVERYONE but Captian Marval and Wonder Woman, who knows Magic, is off doing "Magic". Just... unspecified, vauge, could be anywhere, "Magic".
REALLY?!
AND they get pulled into a last minute, emergency, meeting about where they should store the Idol. Because all Wonder Woman and Marvel can TELL them about it? Is "Yep, Cursed. Probably."
And so they are annoyed. Everyone is arguing. Tensions are getting higher and higher. Somebody mutters a snide comment about somebody ELSE'S sidekick, and? Punching breaks out. Shoving. The big three stand to break it up.
But it's too late.
Some IDIOT throws a CHAIR. Their target, being a trained hero, OBVIOUSLY dodges. Which means it sails right across the table and HITS THE IDOL. Crash!
BOOM.
Everyone is slammed back by a lightshow and huge wall of air. Wonder Woman is FURIOUS. Marvel scared. Everyone gets checked out. Everyone, Go Home and isolate for AT LEAST 24 hours. Report any symptoms or strange thoughts.
They go home. Go to bed. Midnight.
Click.
Everyone locked in their own little Loops.
Now, some of those affected? Lesbians. Married and grossly, gooey, shmoopy, "No, yooou~♡" hang-up type In Love. Or just not in to him.
But! How many people in Loops? Do you think? Get that Bad Idea impulse~
Feel their eyes get drawn towards the Highly Competent and Sexy, Red Robin? Pretty-boy Tim Drake? Their Friend, colleague, or the son of such? It's a time loop. Who would ever know? They HAVE always been... curious.
I mean, they'd treat him right. It's not like they're HURTING anybody! Doing anything against his consent. It's just a Bad Idea.
Batman would murder them. Nightwing would help. Launch them straight into the nearest black hole. Or it would CHANGE things. Their relationship altered forever. Or... well, he's their Brother. Their Son.
So many reasons Not Too.
But it's a Time Loop.
They wear you down. Mentally and emotionally. You get lonely. A little bit crazy. Start doing things you know you shouldn't.
Like eating out your Boy until he's sloppy and ruined, fingering him for hours. Just to feel that sweet heat in your hand. Lazily resting you head on a trembling stomach, not letting him escape. Not hearing him ask for it to end, only whimper that it's too much. Because he's so good for you. And always has been.
Or finally breaking down, when the loneliness gets unbearable. And clinging like an octopus, as you bend your little Tim in HALF. Rolling and snapping your hips like you want to crawl inside his skin. Soaking in the pleasured cries your punching out with every thrust. How CLOSE you finally are.
Sneaking in windows, early in the morning. Teammates, Supers and Speedsters. Crimelords, here to pound him rough and sweet on his own bed. People who should NOT, but do~
Why so early? Uncle Clark?
What brings you to Gotham, Hal Jordan?
Hi, Roy, looking for Jason?
Even crossing paths, as choices diverge things. Ah, Aquaman! Your Majesty, what did you need me for?
All while Tim is, in his OWN Loop? Discovering that Sex is actually kinda awesome. And that he should never be left unsupervised. But mostly the first one!
And THIS time? Because I am a generous and benevolent Enabling Jackass? He DEFINITELY steals Dick's "time to threaten Deathstroke" burner phone. And uses it for purposes other then intended.
One stack of info, several shiny new crates of ammo, and showing up in Dick's Robin costume later? He's in Cairo getting his guts destroyed by a supersoldier. The day resets before Slade even breaks a sweat. Tim on the other hand? Passed "fucked incoherent" about three hours back and would probably shoot him, if the dick weren't making him too uncoordinated and stupid.
Nonetheless? Bats pull miracles. And Tim finds Constantine. Who refuses to TOUCH anything of the "learn a life lesson" variety. Since too many deity have it out for him.
But he is just a man.
And finds himself suddenly MUCH more agreeable and willing to try, after being dragged into another room and slammed against a wall. Blown by Batman's kid.
Nothing like face fucking a Robin to motivate a man to greatness, he discovers.
Which? Is when everyone gets their assorted bank of Loop memories. Lot of boredom for a few. Lovey Dovey bonding for others. Life lessons etc.
But?
Oh.
Oh My God.
Kon is panicking. As it filters in. Tim, bro, he can EXPLAIN! Constantine has cut off in amusement. Because, see? This? This right here is why he avoids- blah blah blah- *white noise* *Distant sound of Kon panicking and his Phone trying to explode itself with texts*
Because HOLY SHIT. Tim stares into the middle distance and realizes? So... SO many people jumped at the chance to fuck him. Like... A LOT.
So many.
His head is FULL of getting RAILED. Kon looks like he's gonna cry. Clark is ripping the door off the hinges. He can explain! Kon no longer looks like he's gonna cry. Explain WHAT, Clark?!
Tim fucked...So Many People.
Or was it Fucked By?
Both?
Does.... does he have Boyfriends now? Bootycalls? A harem?
..............whoops?
*arguing over Tim only gets louder as more Heros show up*
-🐼🐼🐼
all of them taking the opportunity to fuck tim- including some people tim's horny brain hadn't even gotten to considered but now had memories of fucking!😭😭

Hey, if there was someone named James T Kirk in the Camlann apocalypse, would he be able to shoot phasers out of kit bashed hair dryers? What about a Clark Kent? Could he fly? How does the Camlann apocalypse interact with modern myths as opposed to oral traditions?
Hi! So there's an in-universe answer and an out-of-universe answer. In-universe, our gang doesn't know the answer to this question. Telecommunications went down in the first nine days, and stories by their nature are often contradictory, so our gang just don't know enough yet about how this all works to know what it does and doesn't apply to.
Out-of-universe, which is to say the way I write it (and likely something that won't come up explicitly in the show) - the stories have to have been told for the first time orally. They have to be part of an oral tradition that involves many creators and many listeners. The more tellers, listeners and permutations of the story, the more powerful it is. The age of the stories also makes them more powerful, as does their connection to 'the land' - wherever they were first told. They also have to be...organic? They have to have been told for the sake of telling them, not specifically made as a product to be sold.
By all of these rules, anything that was written for a paycheque is pretty much out - which rules out Star Trek and Superman. You can draw a lot of parallels between modern fiction and mythology, for sure, but they do fundamentally serve different purposes and were created for different reasons. A lot of heart and politics went into the creation of Superman, not least combating the rise of fascism. However, he was also created in the first place to sell comic books.
Modern myths that might work better are urban legends - especially older ones that find their roots in the late 1800s or early 1900s. American rural stories about strangers on the road etc. But in that example, again, the age of the story and its connection to the land is always the most important factor. This means that in the US, for example, indigenous folklore and stories are always more powerful than more modern settler ghost stories, and in figurative or literal conflict, the indigenous stories are going to win the toss. Which means that you're a lot less likely to find a creepypasta type creature unless you're in an area that's isolated from any indigenous cultures. Which is obviously going to be hard to find.
*Finally, a note on religion: I do not feel comfortable playing games with real people's real faiths, which is a big part of why we're largely steering clear of religions and religious stories. There's a grey area where religious figures that have also become folk heroes can come into play, specifically leaning on the power they have from folk legend - so Santa, Joan of Arc etc. As a white British woman, I don't feel I have the authority to tell those stories for other cultures. One day I'd love to have a series of mini-episodes where we invite writers from around the world to tackle these subjects. But I'm not going to be the one who writes those stories, because they're not mine to tell.

In every universe Jason Peter Todd dies young. It’s a fate sealed across the multiverse. Maybe he could hope that there’s one universe where he doesn’t. aka, Jason, Dick, and Bruce go multiverse hopping, and are not having a fun time. (Ps, when I started writing this fic I hced Jason as Latino, but I don't really believe in that hc anymore, so just a heads up if you don't like that hc)
TRIGGER WARNING -> Child Death (it's Jason)
Currently, they were standing in front of a Palace. And they were definitely sent back to Medieval times, but not really because the clothing didn’t really match up with the architecture, and the weapons.
Oh, there was also a strong sense of magic, so probably more Dungeons and Dragons vibes. Sick.
Dick took a couple breaths, clenching his fists and releasing them. “Our money’s gonna be useless here. And we should probably get different clothes so we blend in more, but we can’t get those things because we don’t have money.”
So they were going to ignore the fact that the cashier’s name was Jack White. Like… Jack Oswald White. Like the Joker.
To be fair, Jack White is a common name. Jason tucked the comic books into a hidden pocket in his jacket, “We should go deeper in.”
“But this universe’s Bruce is probably in the Castle.”
“It’s a Palace. Castles have defense structures. We can collect gossip from the maids.”
Dick raised an eyebrow, “Gossip?”
“Yeah. How else are we supposed to get information on the Royal family? Use a computer?”
So they went deeper into the palace, sticking to the shadows, and listening to people.
Kal-El was the current King, but before that it was Jor-El, and before that it was Thomas Wayne. Bruce still has prince status, but he– he didn’t abdicate his claim to the throne, because he was fourth in line– Clark, Kon, Jon, and then Bruce, but Something something, the Els were gods, better if they had the throne, blah blah blah. So it was more like the Els were ruling because the people thought very highly of them.
Dick frowned, “Does that mean he’s Uncle Kal, not Uncle Clark?”
“Just call him, your Majesty .”
The Els practically adopted Bruce after Martha and Thomas died, which made all three of them frown, because what about Alfred? There was something about all the Robins– guess there weren’t secret identities here either– being back together in the palace for the first time in a while . That also implied that Royal Bruce had already adopted all– if not most–of them.
Jason snorted, “Dick, do you think you go by Knightwing?”
“I’m pretty sure we all just go by Rob– Oh fuck you.”
Apparently, Dick was usually traveling around, helping whoever needed help along the way. Cass was in Themyscira, (Which, lucky Jason wishes he could go to Themyscira) but came back that morning, with Diana. Tim had been undercover in an enemy kingdom. Damian and Duke had been staying at the palace.
Then, Jason felt an energy. It wasn’t a bad energy, like an Untitled or a bad vibe from someone. No. It actually felt really familiar.
He could feel the energy calling to him. Not luring him in a malicious way, but in a guiding way. He knew it was his energy, but it felt so much stronger. It was so much stronger than his own.
They came to a courtyard, where Steph and Cass were sparring with each other, Jon and Damian were seated in front of Dick as he did some flips, Tim and Kon were climbing a tree, and Duke and Jay were sat crisscrossed in a corner with blindfolds over their eyes. Though, Jay was grinning while Duke was frowning.
“ Jason… I’m tired of this.” Duke whined. He was really young. Maybe, 9? “Aren’t you supposed to be teaching me?”
“I can not teach you, only guide.” Jay backhanded Duke.
“ Ow! What was that for? ”
“I am trying to guide you through foresight. Obviously, you didn’t see that coming.” Duke tried to hit Jay back, but Jay shifted just out of the way so he wouldn’t get hit, “I saw that coming days ago.”
Duke straightened a bit, “Really?”
“No, it was just predictable. I can only see bigger things, remember?”
Dick (his brother) immediately turned to him from where they were hiding, and whispered “Can you read the future?”
Jason made a so-so gesture, “Not often.”
Dick frowned and looked like he was going to say something, when Cass stopped sparring and looked straight at them.
“Hold it Cass, it’s part of Duke’s training.” Jay also turned to face Jason, even though he had his blindfold, and grinned, “Alright, Duke. Your way of seeing into the future is different from mine. The way I can do it is through space, and astral projection. Your powers work by…” Jason trailed off so that Duke could finish the sentence.
“Changing light.” Duke chewed at the side of his cheek, “But how does that relate to me being able to see into the future?”
Jay took off his blindfold, “There was light yesterday, there is light today, there will be light tomorrow.”
“I hate it when you speak all cryptic.” Duke huffed and crossed his arms. “You’re like an old man trapped inside– Oh! Oh! Wait! You mean I can see the light of tomorrow, today!”
“Or, like, a couple seconds from now, right now , but yes.”
“Then why am I wearing a blindfold?” Jay let out a snort, while Duke ripped off his blindfold and swatted Jay with it, “You’re an a–” Duke cut himself off as his eyes flashed golden, and turned to face Jason, Dick, and Bruce.
Jason raised his hands and entered the courtyard, “Hello. We come from a different world, by the way. It’s kinda in the future, but it’s not this future…” He looked over to Jay, “Was that our cue? We didn’t really have time to plan this all out.”
“Yup. You guys are right on time.” Something… resigned flashed over Jay’s face, though was quickly covered up with a welcoming smile.
Cass to Jay worry clear on her face, “There’s that look again.”
“I’ve got all kinds of looks.” Jay made a silly face, but immediately stopped when Cass gave him a don’t do that look. “Don’t worry. If it was important, I’d tell you.”
Cass visibly softened for a second, before placing her hand on her hips, “You better.”
Jay looked at his brother Dick, “I already told Bruce and Uncle Kal that we’d have guests.”
“And you didn’t tell me?”
“That’s because you’re here right now. And you know Bruce would probably put them in the dungeon if I didn’t warn him beforehand.”
“I’ll put you in the dungeon.”
Jay opened his mouth like he was about to shout something, but Dick quickly covered it with his hand. Jay then bit Dick’s hand, “I wasn’t even going to tattle.”
Cass snickered, “Lies.”
Jay gasped, “You’re supposed to take my side. I’ve known you for longer.”
“Quality over quantity.” Cass shrugged. Though, she was smiling in a playful way.
“Wait, how long have you guys known each other?”
Jay threw an arm over Cass’s shoulder, “Since birth. We’re practically twins.”
“We’re not twins. I’m older.” Cass shoved Jay away, but then frowned, “Are we not close in your world?”
Honestly, Jason was surprised they were in this one.
…It was probably because Jay didn’t kill. That always seemed to be the main issue between Jason and his Cass. Initially, Cass absolutely despised Jason for killing. If anything, her lines were even harsher than Bruce’s when it came to that, and because Jason knew she hated him for killing, he just… stayed away.
Then, one night after patrol, he walked into his safehouse to see her waiting for him. She told him why she didn’t kill. How she saw every life as valuable. She asked him why he killed.
At first he said because the people he killed deserved it. And that he didn’t think the same way as Cass did. That some people deserve to die because they are scum.
But she didn’t believe it. Because she said that she saw him seconds before Jason had killed someone. She said his body language looked like he was convincing himself to kill. So she asked him again, why did he kill?
He had to think about it for a moment, but eventually he said ‘Because the people I kill have made victims. And those victims deserve peace. Peace that I can give them.’
Then she nodded, and looked at him like she was looking through his soul, ‘Because you haven’t been given that peace.’ And then she just left.
Since then, it’s been better between the two of them, but Cass was still the person he got along with the least out of the whole…team. And Jason didn’t get along with a lot of them. There was Tim– which he seemed really close with in the fourth universe, and the Wings universe. He didn’t really get along with Damian– but the kid seemed to adore him in the last universe. Even Dick seemed a lot closer to Jason in the Wings universe. Maybe if he had never died he wouldn’t be alone.
“Um… no, but I haven’t known you since birth. With time we’ve gotten closer.” Which, technically was true, but it was a half lie.
If Cass picked up on it she chose not to say anything.
“Well that sucks. Anywho, I wanna talk to Giant Jason.” Jay grabbed his hand and dragged Jason out of the courtyard, out of earshot from everyone else.
“Won’t the Kryptonians still be able to hear us?”
“Kon and Jon’s powers haven’t come in yet. And Uncle Kal won’t eavesdrop unless we shout.” Long gone was the Jay who was happy and joking around with his siblings, as he pressed a palm to Jason’s sternum and closed his eyes. “Ok, good. You’re also a master of the All-Blades. Yours are a lot more powerful than mine.” he could see relief flood into Jay.
“Kid, I’m pretty sure you’re a lot more skilled than I am.” Obviously if he was helping Duke with his precognition, Jay looked at All –the past, present, and future– better than Jason was. And he was pretty sure that Jay astral projected for Jason to find him.
Jay shook his head with a smile that made him look much older than he actually was, “You have a lot more soul than I do. Kinda like you have two.” they started walking farther away from the courtyard, “Have you seen what happens next?”
Jason scratched the back of his neck, “Um, no. I only look at All when I have a chance to sit down and meditate." He doesn’t do it often. It makes him a bit unhinged for the next couple weeks after he does it. The last time he looked at All had been right after Bruce’s disappearance, and he almost killed Tim and Damian. Jason may be the lone human able to master the art without going insane, but… he kinda does, every time he tries.
“A group of Untitleds are going to invade the palace looking for Duke in fifteen minutes. It’s too much for me to take on.”
Jason almost stopped in his tracks, does he know he dies? “I’ll fight beside you. Should we get Duke someplace safe? All of your siblings, actually.”
Jay’s eyes darted around the room, probably looking at all possibilities, “No. They’ll be safest where they are. The Untitled will appear at the Eastern entrance. We’ll get to them before the alarm sounds, and then they’ll come rushing, which will give us enough time to slay most of them.”
Jason nodded, as they continued to speed off in silence. “So, if you knew Cass from birth, but you also have trained with the All-Caste… What's the timeline?” It was meant as a distraction, but also, Jason was really just curious.
“My father was a mercenary, and he learned from Lady Shiva. So I knew Cass from when I was younger, but it was more like we were acquaintances. After my father died, Essence found me and brought me to the Acres of All and I was there for two normal years. I left once for a.. It wasn’t a mission, because I was nine, but Ducra sent me out to get familiar with the feel of magic outside of the Acres of All. I found Cass on the run, and I decided to stick with her. I’m sure Ducra knew this would happen.
"We were on the streets together for three years. We also met Duke out there during our later years. We were kinda a little family of our own. Bruce caught me stealing from him, Cass helped me get away. Then Bruce found us helping people out of a burning building and decided to take us in. I go back to the Acres of All every once in a while, but usually I stick to home base. What about you?”
They had gotten to a set of double doors, so Jason assumed they were at the Eastern entrance. “Hmm, well, I was also living on the streets by the time I was nine. Bruce also caught me stealing from him, but took me in after I helped him stop crime school. I think my Papi also knew Lady Shiva, but I didn’t know he knew her until I was 15. Then I died, but I came back to life. Talia brought me to the Ducra, and I learned under her for six normal months, but then I–” Ice slid down his spine, making the hairs on his arm stand up and his stomach twist.
They both summoned their blades.
And the doors opened.
And they attacked
There was something so oddly natural about fighting alongside this version of himself. It felt almost as natural as fighting alongside Bruce.
It could just be because Jay knew how Jason fought because he saw All and, despite this version of him being from a universe that was vastly different from his own, Jason still knew how he fought. The blend of a martial stance and a street brawl stance. The combination of flashy acrobatics he’d learned from Dick and the practical dodges and rolls. The mix of the analytical eye from Bruce and the intuition he had gained over the years.
“ Where is the son of Gnomon?” the Untitled hissed in unison.
Jason landed a kick on top of an Untitled’s knee, launching himself up to get a good opening for a stab, “An Omen? Didn’t realize omens could have children.” Obviously, Jason knew who Gnomon was. He remembers Duke, pft, duking it out with him a while ago.
But this Duke was still young. And if these things kept coming after him… he needed someone to protect him. And yeah, they had Superman, but Superman and magic don’t mix.
Jay needed to stay alive .
Jason jumped on the Untitled Jay was currently fighting and sunk his blades into its shoulders, catching a glance at Jay.
He– he was translucent. Which was not good. “Kid, take a breather!”
Jason was sure he could take the rest of the Untitled. There were only five left. He could take them. Jason could take them. Duke needed Jay. Jason could take them.
He willed the blades to change form– into knives– and threw them, hitting one in the ear and one in the heart.
Jay’s eyes widened like he realized something and whipped his head around to the door, where the rest of his family were prepped with swords and armor, rushing out to help. Jay turned back and narrowed his eyes at the Untitled in front of him.
“Jay! Stop! I’ve got them!”
There were three Untitled left. Two near Jason, but he wouldn’t be able to get to the last one. Not while fighting these two. Not before Jay.
Jason summoned his blades back to his hands and he slashed an Untitled across the thigh.
Jay closed his eyes, and took a deep breath, before gripping his swords harder. “It’s me or my family. I can’t have that happen.” He looked back and locked eyes with Duke, “ Shine for as long as you live, Don’t be sad about anything,” Jay looked away and lifted his chin towards the Untitled, “For life is short, And time will demand its due.” Then he charged.
And as Jay’s blade sunk into the heart of the Untitled, the blade started to dim until it evaporated into thin air. And then his hand faded away, followed by his arm, then head, then chest, until nothing was left.
Jason slit the neck of the last Untitled.
The silence.
The silence felt too loud.
Until, “Where’d– where’d Jason go?” From Stephanie, voice wavering.
Duke frowned, eyes glowing golden, “What are you talking about? He’s right there!”
Tim blinked a couple times, but it didn’t cover the fact that his eyes were glossy, “Duke–”
“He’s right there! I can see him! Cass, you can see him, right?” Duke looked to the spot Jay used to be in back to Cass, “Cass?”
Cass looked at the spot Jay had disappeared from and shook her head no , once. Then twice. Her blank expression crumpled into pure grief as she fled back into the Palace.
“No!” Duke glared at everyone, “He’s right there! I can see him! Why can’t you guys see him ?” His eyes flickered from gold to brown, back to gold then back to brown, leaving the kid confused, “He’s– he was– he was right there!” He closed his eyes tight , and then opened them, “He was right there ! Where’d he go? Jason? Jason!” He ran over to where Jay was last standing, “JASON!!! ” Duke spun around in a circle trying to figure out where Jay went, but he couldn’t find him. He couldn’t find him.
Duke balled his hands into fists as his breathing began to speed up.
Then–an ear piercing scream.
And everything around them got brighter and brighter and brighter. They couldn’t tell what was Duke’s doing, but they also knew it was time to leave.

Love love LOVEEE all the Peter Parker (tom Holland) and Miles Morales Spider-Man batfam crossover fics i love them so much don't get me wrong yall.
BUT I feel like we're just glossing over the glorious idea of them joining Young Justice. lIke HELLOOOO TEENAGER??? QUOTE ON QUOTE "META TEENAGER"??? obviously they should be in Young Justice. I only recently really got into DCU and pretty much know nothing about the lore all the different timelines confuse me but I just know I love Spider-Man batfam AND CONNER KENT. YOUNG JUSTICE THE SHOW CONNER KENT. I was introduced to Kon-El in a very bad way so I'm sure he's a silly and great guy but I'm wary of him now 💔
Anyway hear me out y'all. Conner Kent and Spider-Man friendship. I just think they both would hit it off. LIKE THINK ABOUT IT. I KNOW CONNER ALREADY HAS ROBIN AND SHIT (both Nightwing Robin and Tim Drake Robin I think I'm only on season one of Young Justice) BUT I THINK HE AND PETER PARKER (TOM HOLLAND'S PETER PARKER SPECIFICALLY) WOULD BE GREAT TOGETHER. I also think Peter would like think Superman was the coolest thing ever at first, find out about how Superman initially reacted to Conner, and have some light beef with him. He's definitely not the type to put someone on a pedestal just because they're like insanely invincible bc at the end of the day even though Clark isn't human he was raised by them and therefore is human.
Peter meets Conner and is like oh hell yeah new friend.
And EVEN BETTER THOUGHT Peter and Tim are both huge nerds and immediately hit it off as well. I just want all of them to be friends okay. ACTUALLY ISN'T LIKE YOUNG JUSTICE'S UNIVERSE'S TECHNOLOGY KINDA WAY OUTDATED COMPARED TO PETER'S UNIVERSE'S??? I think he'd have an aneurysm but then work on making this world's technology better as much as he can.
Batman sees Peter (probably homeless after getting transported to a whole ass other multiverse) trying to steal the high-tech parts from his batmobile with the guiltiest and most apologetic expression ever (he's really not that sorry because he's assuming Batman's real identity is some insanely rich guy) and is like "This is oddly familiar. Anyway, new kid!"
Peter sees Bruce Wayne and the only though is "Holy shit this world has a playboy billionaire philanthropist too!"
Also Peter would immediately clock that this isn't his universe btw
Also Jason would see Peter and think Oh man who is this scrawny kid that is clearly not from Gotham he's so malnourished and scrawny oh man this kid is going to get killed I need to prevent that. As would the rest of the BatFamily

Random ask, who are your favorite romantic relationship's couples in any media, like anime/manga, tv series, books, etc (can be canon or non-canon)? Feel free if you want to write the reasons or not of why you love them....
Thank you so much for sending in an ask! I would love to answer this question! I didn't go through every fandom I've been in, though I went through quite a few!!! Usually, there is only one ship I really love in a fandom that ends up being my favorite, but I like/love plenty of ships and don't limit myself to just one ship. I will say that when it comes to engaging with fandom and fanfiction, I tend to actually prefer platonic relationships, centered on found family and blood-related family than anything else.
Bungou Stray Dogs -> Shin Soukoku (Akutagawa Ryuunosuke/Nakajima Atsushi). I think most of this comes from the way they are quite literally yin and yang (my favorite symbol of all time) in almost every aspect. I firmly believe Asagiri is beating us over the head with a mallet saying "Look! Look what I did! Please look!" I'm under no impression that they will be canon, but BEAST gives me the hope that they can at least become friends, and that's testament enough to the development they go through. There is just so much there. I'm not an enemies to lovers person, but for them, I make the exception. There are so many parallels to draw between them, so much to look at and really dig into. I'm not delusional enough to say they wouldn't be toxic (all of the BSD ships except for, like, RanPoe, are toxic let's be real), but I am lenient enough to say that they can be good to each other in fanfics and decent friends in canon. Also, this applies to their BEAST counterparts, too. BEAST makes them better.
Jujutsu Kaisen -> ItaFushi (Fushiguro Megumi/Itadori Yuuji). There is a sort of trend I have with shipping, I think. I tend to like the second most popular ship, usually the younger generation of the most popular ship, which is arguably a form of torture in and of itself. JJK is not as bad as the BSD fandom is about the popularity difference, but it's still painful. Anyway, I think my love for this ship stems from the fact that Megumi has a big fat crush on Itadori and I will accept, under no circumstances, any other interpretations of his relationship with Itadori. Everything from the SatoSugu parallels (who are one handhold away from being canon let's be real), to their whole shtick being to save each other (physically and mentally), to Megumi literally describing Itadori as his type of person. Gender neutral. Even though it is so incredibly easy to use gendered terms in Japanese as it is in English. I feel like Gege is doing this on purpose because there is just no way he sees this as normal friend stuff. Recent chapters got me in a chokehold. I am SCARED. Besides all this, I think they just work very well together. They are also horribly tragic. Perfect combination.
Genshin Impact -> Xiaother (Aether/Xiao). I debated pretty heavily with myself here on what my true favorite is. I came to this conclusion mainly for one reason: Xiao. I love Aether, but I love Xiao. He is my favorite character, right next to Razor, so obviously he carries this ship. I also think that, of all of the implied relationships Genshin has supplied in plenty, Xiaother has had the most development. Every scene with them is better than the last, and the way that they make each other better is something I adore. And as for the ship being specifically Aether and not Lumine or nonspecific, it's because I chose Aether, so I'm more accustomed to using him as the traveler vessel rather than Lumine, but I'm honestly fine with either.
Identity V -> Elisop (Aesop Carl | Embalmer/Eli Clark | Seer). I haven't played this game in a hot minute for storage and laptop reasons, and I'm also not updated with the lore (nor was I entirely familiar with it from the beginning, outside of the MAIN main lore). But this ship and game were a huge part of my personal development, I think, and I do want to return to playing it in an honest effort eventually (I WANT MY ROBBIE RANK BACK). I think I perceive it differently than other people do, mainly because people oscillate between two sides of the Aesop Carl characterization spectrum. But there is something really fun in the idea that Eli, with his ability to see the future, thinks that he can somehow "fix" Aesop, under the impression that his and Getrude's relationship will never mend. And Aesop, who sees Eli and feels real love for the first time, finds that he doesn't know if he wants to kill and embalm Eli, or if he wants to indulge in this feeling called love. Toxic, probably. Their color schemes also match very well together (which is actually what led me to ship them in the first place, before fandom influence), and they are extremely compatible gameplay-wise.
Haikyuu -> IwaOi (Iwaizumi Hajime/Oikawa Tooru). If you told me two or so years ago that this was my favorite Haikyuu ship, I would have LAUGHED IN YOUR FACE. I hated Oikawa and didn't care much about Seijou. But then. But then. I went through a like. Month-long Haikyuu revival not too long ago and only read IwaOi fics because I came to this revelation. Oikawa is really goddamn relatable. I think we are all, in a sense, Oikawa, at one point or another. He is THE teenager. He is someone you can project every single one of your problems onto because his struggles with being untalented and unworthy are interchangeable with pretty much any self-worth conflict: internalized homophobia, eating disorders, socializing, etc. Iwaizumi can also provide these internal debates, but in a context with Oikawa makes it even better. Does Oikawa carry this ship for me? Yes. I don't care what you think I'm not here to defend myself.
Voltron: Legendary Defenders -> Klance (Keith Kogane/Lance McClain). Do NOT talk to me. They have ruined my life in pretty much every aspect. Also an exception to the not shipping thing because they are kinda the whole reason I even watched this show past season... three probably. I don't even wanna talk about them anymore because it'll just upset me. Just know that as far as the Sheith vs Klance debate goes, Sheithers are wrong for that after Keith called Shiro his brother. There. I added my fuel to the ever-burning garbage fire that is Voltron shipping. I may talk about Klance again in the future but for now I wanna leave my thoughts off here.
Merlin BBC -> Merthur (Arthur Pendragon/Merlin). Thank you Merthur fandom for teaching me what a good fic is supposed to taste like. They are kind of the epitome of the ships I tend to gravitate to: TRAGIC. The ending of Merlin is traumatizing and the fact that all of the cast pretty shipped it (as well as you can see the faint mouthing of the words "I love you" in the final death scene) is like. The first true healthy immersion into a ship I've ever had. I never obsessed over them too hard, I think, but Merlin is still my favorite live-action show, and Merthur is always well and true to my heart. They also got me introduced to the master/servant trope in terms of medieval times, and I had a very long affinity for it in fanfiction. I don't like it as much anymore, but I look upon that time with happiness rather than the usual slight embarrassment.
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power -> Catradora (Adora/Catra). I also make an exception for enemies to lovers for them because they even added that extra-friendly step of friends to enemies to lovers. Genuinely, no show surprised me as much as She-Ra did. Shout out She-Ra for giving me the worst envy I've ever felt in my life. I want to rock a suit as well as Catra did in that one scene. Anyway, I loved their development. I know some people criticize it for being rushed towards the end, but I like the way they were able to forgive Catra so easily. They understood what it meant to be used and manipulated, what it meant to be unable to fight against oppressive forces. People are mad at compassion, even though that's the literal whole point of She-Ra. Whatever. They could never make me hate you Catradora.
Percy Jackson (all book series) -> Percabeth (Annabeth Chase/Percy Jackson). The blueprint. That's it. That's all you gotta know. I don't read fics about them because there is nothing to improve upon. One of the best written series and best written romances of all time. It was basically everything Avatar: The Last Airbender failed to do with Kataang (sorry for ragging on them for a second but that's the only thing I didn't like about ATLA; the romances) failed to accomplish, with all the same in-depth and wonderful characters. Like, they are everything I aspire to have in a relationship. The way they are simply meant for each other and aren't rushed, but are always implied to have that cutesy young crushes until they finally got together. I love them. Ugh. Uncle Rick you win again.
Anyway, these were some of my favorite ships of all time!! Sorry, I blabbered a lot. Probably listed more ships than you meant to but I take whatever opportunity I can to talk about things I enjoy IN DEPTH. There were also a lot of M/M romances, which, I swear to God, just happened out that way. I love plenty of F/F and F/M relationships, they just rarely end up as my top favorite. DO NOT accuse me of anything because I WILL NOT hear it.

I love your borderline story!! It is so well crafted and I love Bruce’s point of view for this. Even though they are literally sharing a brain he still comes across as a limited pov, and like there definitely seems to be things going around he isn’t instantly aware of. I think it gives a very realistic feel to a story about magic and such. Also, it reminds me of sense8 which I love (tho different type of connection of course)!
It was also nice to read bruce being bisexual about clark and the kids making fun lol. It’s like, ok doesn’t matter clark is a man they have known this for years (on the older kids part) haha. Also the latest chapter was very distressing! Like in a good way! You build plots and tension so well and I can’t wait to see where this goes!
Also I like the imagery you use to describe the characters. You have a way of writing that let’s me picture things easily and get immersed into the characters. I like how the characters are influencing each other too. I hope that j’onn isn’t right that they will just be one person, but it’s cool to read them borrowing from each other. Tho that part does suck when it’s like unwanted feelings like dick’s attraction to Barbara affecting bruce. It’s cool to see both the positive and negative aspects of such a connection.
I like that you write the characters as human who don’t always do what’s best for themselves and/or others. These days a lot of people want characters that only do the right thing always and feel the right things and never say the wrong thing and talk like they are teaching therapy lessons. But I like here where you can see they care about each other, but there is a lot of complicated history and relationships. You have such a good grasp on writing people and aren’t afraid to give them flaws! It’s so great.
Also I’ve not caught everything in comics and stuff, but so often times stories are where Jason outright hates bruce or it’s Bruce vs all his kids and it’s nice to read that even tho there are definitely complex relationships going on and obviously people aren’t perfect, but there is still this loyalty and love there still. After everything, there is still love. Or idk I could be reading with rose coloured glasses, but I just mean it’s nice to see something more balanced.
Anyways idk how coherent this, but overall I’m really loving this story and also shana tova!
Thank you so much, anon! I'm so grateful for this comment. Thank you for reading <3 there should definitely be more soon.
Shanah Tovah!

Lex Luthor (Smallville) - Short Story : Chapter 1
Tumblr media
When you got to Smallville, the first thing people seemed to warn you about was anyone with Luthor as their last name. For a while you thought it was a bluff. The Luthors as you learned were just rich. So you could understand why people would feel threatened.
The problem was the topic kept coming up. To the point that you decided to take the advice. You’d just gotten a substitute position at Smallville High. While your end goal was to teach at a high ranking university, you were determined to avoid anything that could compromise your dream.
That’s why it was unclear how you still managed to be trapped in a corporate building with a Luthor.
“Seriously!!!”
The lights were flickering and cops were surrounding the building due to the two criminals that were currently carrying guns searching for the valuables. They’d planned a hit on Luthor Corps' many facilities. In this case they hadn’t accounted for every variable. Now you were trapped in a closet hiding, pressed against a certain millionaire.
“If you keep yelling this won’t be a very good ending for either of us.” He hissed.
He was obviously pissed.
Initially you’d just come in to visit a friend and ended up on the wrong floor.
“The police have the place surrounded. We should be safe soon, so just bear with it.”
You huffed, agitated. Lex had instinctively grabbed you and pulled you in here. You’d like to think he was actually worried for your wellbeing, but maybe it was just for his own safety. Ultimately you could lead those psychos back to him.
“Clark was right, you’re a freaking magnet for trouble.”
You grumble.
The mention of that name seemed to gain a reaction.
“I’m not surprised that Clark Kent has little faith in me.”
“He must have a reason.”
“Trust me he’s no saint.”
“And you are?”
You shifted as best you could, glaring at him. His gaze fixed on you with the same type of defiance.
“You don’t even know me, why the hell do you hate me so much?”
“I just dislike people that take advantage of others.”
He didn’t truly have a comeback, because he couldn’t wholeheartedly say that he didn’t have a hand in manipulating people. His expression showed hesitance and regret. It caught you a little off guard.
“You really think anyone would enjoy doing that, being that way..”
His words fell off. The vulnerability he revealed was so far from what you would expect. You couldn’t really retaliate. Because at that moment, you almost felt sorry. Both for your spiteful words and mistrust when you truly didn’t even know him.
“Come on out Luthor!!”
The yell from the otherside startled you.
Lex’s jaw set, and he pressed his hand to the wall.
“Don’t make a sound.”
He mouthed.
You nodded.
This wasn’t looking very good. Your heart was hammering, and the fact that the both of you were so close must have alerted him how scared you truly were. His expression conveyed a protectiveness that you didn’t expect.
“I won’t let you die here, I promise.”
It was whispered, and for a second you were confused on how he intended to stop these guys before the police decided it was the right time to move. He spun you around the best he could in the small space, reaching for the knob as he jumped out the door slamming it in your face.
You were terrified. He must have lost his mind. You knew you should have done something, but you were frozen in fear. Because you’d heard the gunshots when they first breached the building. These guys had automatic weapons. How exactly was he planning to stop bullets?
“I’m here, okay. I’m here. We can walk out of here right now and I’ll take you to get something that could set you up for life.”
You were trembling.
Your assailant laughed, and you heard the door open.
“You hear that James, he wants to help us get rich.” The first said.
“It doesn’t sound so bad.” His partner replied.
“If we leave now we can get out before the cops come. No one has to die.”
Neither of you were aware how many hostages they had. It sounded like Lex was trying to keep the casualties to a minimum by giving himself up.
You swallow. It was risky to trust these men. It was almost guaranteed that after they got what they wanted, Lex’s life was in their hands.
“This isn’t your problem. You don’t even know the guy. Who cares if he gets taken by some potentially psychotic killers.”
Your inner pep talk wasn’t helping.
Why the hell did you have to be an empath?
Clenching your eyes shut, you grab the knob, pushing your way out of the closet. You stumbled out and the second the two men saw you, they raised their guns. Lex looked startled, maybe a bit pissed.
You raised your hands on instinct. It must have been comical how much your body was shaking right now.
“What do we have here, a little mouse? “ The taller man snickered.
“N-Not a mouse, just an empath.” You stated.
You could see the confusion on their faces as they laughed. You just closed your eyes, tilting your wrists. Lex stared at the blue mist that seemed to be seeping from your hands.
“W-What the hell!!”
Both men screamed.
They didn’t have a chance to pull their triggers.
A similar blue glow reflected off their irises.
The guns dropped from their hands and they both ran off screaming as if they’d seen a ghost. The yells must have alerted the police, because you heard the floor getting breached.
“EVERYONE ON THE FLOOR NOW!!”
The yells echoed and you dropped to the floor. Lex followed, dropping at your side. You both were faces down as the cops began to swarm the floor. Although your head was lowered, you could feel Lex’s eyes.
The turnout was much better.
Three people had gotten injured, but luckily they were set to make a full recovery. No one had died. The second you were free of the probing questions and mandatory check from the paramedics, you could see the swarm of people behind the police tape. One of which was Clark. The second he caught sight of you he rushed to your side, hugging you happily.
“Easy Clark, wouldn’t want to open up a stitch.”
He pulled back immediately.
“You got stitches!!”
You shake your head with a smile, lifting your hands.
“Completely untouched. Just messing with you.”
He didn’t look impressed, but he was still smiling.
“I’m glad you’re okay.”
Hell, so were you.
Out of your peripheral you caught sight of Lex. Your head turned the very moment that he looked in your direction. The intensity of his stare was almost too much. It’s like he was trying to solve a mystery. Yet, at the same time he looked almost…relieved.
Clark wasn’t oblivious to the exchange. His eyes moved in Lex’s direction, and almost immediately Lex’s expression changed. Now he seemed indifferent. You gripped at Clark’s arm, and he broke eye contact, looking down at you.
“He knows about me.”
You could practically see the wheels turning in Clark’s head and his body immediately change to a protective stance. As terrified as you were of dying, you were equally as scared of what this meant. Because with Lex now knowing your secret, your future in Smallville was a bit undetermined.

My Adventures With Jimmy's Two Gay Dads (MAWS) Episode 6 Review
Spoiler Free Thoughts: A good course correction from the episode before with good fun, a good bit of escalation as far as the scope for what they can do for villains even if they're still tech related, FINALLY some concrete answers on plot things and just a wonderful pair of villains that I'm sad we likely won't see again, at least not anytime soon. The only thing I was just okay with really was the Lois, Clark and Jimmy stuff. None of it was bad but it was a little rushed and a little awkward at times and I don't think Lois got a moment to shine like I had been expecting/hoping. It all worked well enough though to has me excited for the next episode once again.
======
+++++
======
So this is going to be shorter than usual because my brain is hissing at me at wasting typing energy on something other than the Lindworm retelling I'm working on (if you're interested, go check out my Discord) so I can't focus as well as I normally can. Luckily, I don't actually have as much to say about this episode as usual, especially beyond what I said in my spoiler free thoughts.
This episode is just good. For resolving the previous episode it does the job fine but it is probably the clunkiest part, as if they don't want to fully resolve it or didn't want to linger on the drama for too long. It still works well though with Clark stating why Lois impresses him, Clark showing why Lois loves him (and I wish Lois got a moment like that that just let her shine as a reminder of why these two want to be together) and Jimmy shows the right reaction to the secret by giving Clark space since it's obviously sensitive to him. He also then has the right reaction of indignation when he finds out Lois was 'told' first.
Which... I would like Jimmy to stop being objectively right and that not going very far. This episode isn't too bad about it but for the past two episodes, Jimmy feels like he's doing the correct thing that the other two might learn from but that doesn't really go anywhere. The lack of them talking as much as maybe they could have would have helped it feel stronger in this episode too and I just feel like it was kind of lacking. If you're going to keep make Jimmy shine or feel just as important as the other two, can you please actually resolve that in someway during an episode?
But I do want to touch on Clark's reason for keeping the secret because I like that they DIDN'T use Spiderman's reason. A lot of people responded that part of why Supes has been hiding his secret is the threat it poses to his loved ones and friends but like... Until the last month, why would Superman, one who always sees the best in poeple, think that? No one wanted him dead, no threat could challenge him and he believes people are inherently good.
As such, the reason IS selfish. It's so he could be seen and treated as normal, even to the point of ignoring those around him. When he asked Lois "Do you really think that little of me?" I'd hoped that would get turned around on him at the end when he talked about these fears. They say they never would which works but I think it would have been more powerful to more specifically target that Clark needs to have faith in those around him.
It also made him saying the effective mission statement of Superman, that he will help humanity until the day people are accepting of all and help each other, a little rough for me. Not that it is bad for him to say but I wish his response to being told that no one would accept him for being different had been "You know, I had thought that but today I got shown that I might just be wrong about that and so long as I can believe everyone can be like the ones I love, I'm not going anywhere, especially not so long as they need my help."
Speaking of outcasts though: I LOVE Mallah and Brain. They truly do sell old married couple energy, the bit about the dishes is AMAZING, while also being mad scientists. And yet, you never fully disbelieve that they aren't honest. They genuinely want to help people and live a life of peace but, you know, mad scientists be mad scientists. They actually reminded me a lot of Lumiere and Cogsworth, especially with Mallah talking about having been alone for decades contrasting with "Ten years we've been rusting, needing so much more than dusting."
Also, good on Ivo that he seems to be recovering OKAY after the Parasite suit but man, revenge isn't what you need boy. You need therapy. Speaking of villains, my limited knowledge of Omecs (again, hope I'm getting the name right) make me look at this version and go "Some people are going to be MAD" because it does genuinely feel like just using a comic name for something that is absolutely not what it is in the comics. Maybe some version of them but definitely not the version I'm most familiar with, at least to my knowledge.
Do I mind? Not really. It gives them a neat name and they can get renamed later once their origins are fully revealed or the like but even that would reasonably feel cheap to comic fans. Again, doesn't matter that much to me but for once I would understand others being annoyed.
But in general, it's just a good episode that I think handles the aftermath of episode 5 well, continues showing how much charisma and charm the show has in its character writing but I am REALLY ready for a Jimmy focused episode already. One that is genuinely about him and not about the trio like this one was.

What do you think would happen if the batfam visited the Kent family farm/had to take temporary shelter there?
Thanks for the ask (even though ive been real alow aboug answering)
I think that regardless of the circumstances it would be chaotic but not necessarily in a bad way. It has the possibility of being a relaxing experience depending on who's there and why.
Bruce has obviously been to the farm a number of times and enjoys Martha and John's hospitality (especially when they tell him embarrassing stories about Clark while feeding him good food). He likes the peace and quiet but only for a night or two before he starts getting restless.
Damian will never admit it but he loves the Kent family farm. He will be up at dawn helping John and Martha with the chores, particularly feeding the animals, milking the cow, etc. He likes how peaceful and homey it is even if he does miss certain luxuries from Wayne manor.
Now the whole family is made up of city slicker types and sooner rather than later they all have complaints about rural life in Smallville Kansas. Babs would bemoan the slow internet and spotty phone signal. Steph would be baffled by how far they'd have to got to get groceries because she is used to running to the store at 3 am for post patrol eggo waffles.
The Kents let them relax for a day or so and then start recruiting them all to various farm chores that nome of them are particularly good at, but they are determined to be helpful. I can just see the intense rock paper scissors battle over who has to shovel manure. Jason loses but insists that it's not nearly as bad as the Gotham sewers.
If you want to include various supers, half the family has a Superfam best friend who loves the farm and would excitedly show it off and maybe play a few harmless pranks on the batfam.
Feel free to add on to this because it's such a fun concept!

Mother, Pet , Shock
Jesus, what in actual hell is Jason gonna do if he ends up whelping a half-alien kid in "no metas allowed" Gotham? Or if he has to explain to Lian that she's not her daddy's only pup anymore? Or if–
Jason pictures a sweet little redheaded newborn all nestled up to his chest, maybe softly glowing and floating or adorably stupid and wickedly clever or just ridiculously tiny and defenseless and all those other things all at once, and feels far, far too many feelings about the idea.
His heart fucking hurts with how many feelings he feels about that idea, in fact.
Alright. Ruled out sneaking out to get an abortion, apparently.
Jason can't actually be a real mom, though. He can't protect a pup with his lifestyle, much less properly raise one. Catherine tried, at least, but Sheila was an absolute piece of shit, and those are his only examples so far as "mothering" behavior goes because he is just not emotionally prepared to ever count Selina, and not even because of her actually being an alpha and therefore more the "fathering" type or all the times he tried to get her arrested back in the day. So just–just how would he ever know how to be a mom for some poor stupid kid who'd probably be just as much of a mouthy, difficult brat as he'd always been? How would he know how to be a mom for a kid genetically crazy enough to jack the fucking Batmobile's tires? How?!
Maybe . . . maybe Roy would want them, though, or . . . or something. He wants Lian even though she's Cheshire's, after all. And Jason couldn't put any pup up for adoption unless he was absolutely sure they weren't Kori's because of the whole alien superpowers issue, obviously, but that's what DNA tests are for, right? And who knows, maybe Kori would want them herself, if they were hers.
Jason would have to actually ask to know if either of them would even want a pup that was half him, of course, which just sounds like some fresh fucking hell right there.
.
.
.
"Mr. Luthor? You with us?"
"Not at the moment, no," Luthor mutters from the pavement, pushing himself up carefully and dusting his suit off with a mildly annoyed expression, like they're not currently in the middle of a half-destroyed city block while innumerable robot minions and Kal and Kara are all throwing down in the sky overhead. "Hn. Is there a reason the two of you are perched on one of Superman's pet teenagers? The more annoying one, even?"
"Convenient bullet-catcher," Mercy replies dismissively, shooting down a couple more of the aerial robots.
"Also surprisingly obedient," Hope muses.
"Asshole, I literally just saved your life and fucked up half an army of shitty robots to keep it saved, and as for you two, I did your fucking jobs for you, and all three of you are all gonna be shitheads to me about it?" Kon demands in exasperation. "Seriously?"
"Seems like a reasonable source of entertainment for the afternoon," Luthor says, idly watching Mercy shoot down a few more of the airborne robots. "Given that Superman's being inconsiderately dull and not getting himself punched nearly hard enough."
"Let me the fuck up already," Kon says flatly.
.
.
.
Clark wakes up.
Clark didn't even know he wasn't awake.
"Superman," Bruce says with absolute neutrality. He's wearing the cowl. Standing in rubble. Clark is . . . not standing in rubble.
Laying in rubble. That's what Clark is doing.
Bruce is looking down at him very, very carefully, and seems . . . reserved.
Reserved for Bruce, even.
"What happened?" Clark asks, trying not to concentrate on the little seed of dread that the sight of that reservation invokes in him. He can hear the heartbeats of other League members, here and there in the wreckage of the street around them. Hear civilians and city noise. Hear Lois and Jon, distantly, and Ma and Pa, even more distant. And . . . Kara–both of her–and . . .
"We'll go with 'electrocution', but I think we can safely say just about anyone else would've been virtually incinerated," Bruce informs him, distracting Clark from his mental rundown of people he's currently worried about. "Or just exploded."
"Ah," Clark says with a grimace. Well, that explains why his head hurts so damn bad, he guesses.
At least it was him, then, and not any "anyone else"s.

Penelope & her men
I think is interesting to consider all the men Penelope dated regardive to garvez situation.
Shane Wyeth
It's the first ex-boyfriend of Penelope we meet. He appears only in 9x12. Shane is her tech mentor, a hacker. He still clearly has feelings for her; he is jealous of her relationship with Morgan. Penelope got herself captured by BAU, to run away from him and ending their relationship. Their vision of life was too different.
Kevin Lynch
He is the second boyfriend of Garcia we meet. Their relationship was long but also complicated, they broken up more than once. He worked (we have no clue to understand what he is doing now) for BAU as technical analyst. He was jealous when she met other men, even if he was involved with another woman.
Sam
He is the third boyfriend of Garcia we meet. We know almost nothing about him, except that they have a past, and they started a relationship that lasted some years. We don't know exactly when they broken up, and the reason either. They have a common passion for music instruments.
Luke Alvez
He is a SSA at the BAU. He asked Penelope out at her farewell party. She accepted, but the date, also for the pandemic situation, didn't go as expected. It was awkard and Penelope took the opportunity to step back. She admitted that there was something between them, but "not like that". He never stopped to have feelings for her.
Tyler Green
He is the brother of a victim. He has tech skills and used it to infiltrate in Sicarius network to catch his sister killer, then sent info to Penelope, forcing her to come back at BAU. At the first they seemed to hate each other, but it didn't last very long. They started a sort of relationship, that Penelope ended when she finally realized that it was wrong for many reasons.
-
Just two of her men aren't hacker, Sam and Luke. It's probably a case, but they are also the only two that treat her well. The relationship with Sam is the only one of Pen that we can't consider wrong, toxic, etc. Sam seems a good boy, he is nice, not jealous of Kevin or Morgan. He just can't understand why she has to go to Baylor in jail. Luke has some computer skills, we can guess it in some episodes, especially in CME, but it's because he is just really smart. He is clearly in love with Penelope since the beginning, he could have forced her to realize that she feels the same for him, but never did it. It's not like him. He is also unable to get angry with her, for more than 3 seconds (see 16x9). But he did his own mistake, when he lied about Phil feelings for her (and viceversa). Should we also add Jason Clark Battle (alias James Colby Baylor) to the list? They dated, one time. Penelope considered him attractive. All of this to say that she had a type, or attracted a certain kind of man, with which she had difficult relationship, passionate but also wrong, even on her part. Like when she used her hacker techniques to not let Kevin go away, or her responsability in the story with Tyler... She admitted that the relationship with the last was wrong, right with Luke in their last scene of S16 together.
Maybe this background could be part of the reason why she seems so scared about a possible romantic story with Luke. He is so kind, so good... does she deserve someone like him? She can easily answer "yes". But then. What if they work, what if they pass from the "I'm in love with you" phase to the "I love you, deeply love you" one? What if Luke becomes her world? And then... what if all of this ends? How could she survive? So, it's better to let it go.
Obviously this is just my opinion and theory.
All my ramblings

It is interesting that Lex Luther treats Conner like an employee despite enslaving him. He seems a lot more hands off then the other Light “mentors”. I’ve wondered what it means but I’m leaning towards Lex feels he owns his employees 😬
I mean we've touched on a few pieces here so I'll just skip to the end piece which is oh absolutely for sure Lex feels like he owns his employees.
I don't know the history myself but if you ask me it seems a lot like DC writers just kinda sat in a room and said 'we need a villain for Superman and they all said in unison 'capitalism' then nodded to each other very pleased for this decision and went to get coffee. I could be wrong but like. Who cares this is obviously the best origin story.
Luthor does everything with the motivation of how much more power he can get and he equates money with power. That's half the problem with Superman's existence is that he is not a symbol of power associated with money. There is no amount of money that beats Superman. There is just things he can do because he has money. But furthermore he can't buy Superman. And Superman himself is not motivated by power and money which makes Luthor even more antsy because he doesn't understand him.
The enemy of capitalism is people who don't care about/don't need money. And thats why Luthor and Clark are the dichotomy that they are.
Anyway, that aside. Luthor is a capitalist. Big daddy capitalism. Monopoly man but worse.
His employees are assets to him. This is absolutely the kind of guy who pays minimum wage and refuses to give you a more flexible work schedule so you can't get a second job to make up for your abysmal salary. This is the guy that says no to healthcare, maternity leave, dental because it'd 'cost too much' (false). This is the guy who forces all staff to use lexcorp branded stationery and equipment but doesn't supply it for free and instead takes it out of the employee's salary. This is that guy.
Do I have the basis in canon for this? No. Do I care? Still no. Because to me this is a fundamental part of Luthor's character. He can't be so blatantly anti-superman and also a good guy. One, because this is a type of fiction where good guy protagonist (Superman) is the moral back bone of the story and his trials and tribulations are an exploration of morality and ethics, because he's so overpowered it can't really be anything else. This is a character who's story is a metaphor for Jewish immigrants after the second world war. There is no way for these pieces to coalesce and allow for Luthor to be a good man. Not only because there are no ethical billionaires, but because he is actively a xenophobic man at the top of a capitalistic ladder stood atop bodies of the poor.
Ahem. Anyway whoops I kinda got a bit political there whoops. I didn't realise I had this many opinions on Lex Luthor. Wild.

Is there anything worthwhile to be gained from Superman: American Alien given the author?
Landis being a shithead and tainting American Alien absolutely sucks, because this is the book that actually did something interesting with the refrain that Superman "is just a guy".
Tumblr media
If Superman is "just a guy" then we should let him be that, which is exactly what this story does. Clark gets angry, horny, sad, makes impulsive decisions that bite him in the ass, swears, drinks beer, fights with his friends, he acts like a normal American teenager rather than being a perfect angel. Underneath all that he's still recognizable as Superman, as a good guy trying to do right by others. Many takes on the character pay lip service to the idea of Clark being one of us, but still write him as this unimpeachable - downright corny if we're being honest - model of "traditional" values in a way that renders him unrelatable. Some people will earnestly claim that makes him charming, but I can't agree. Clark here is more personable and charming than Byrne or Loeb's country hick from 1950s America, and American Alien shows that being "retro" is not at all a required element for Superman to feel in-character. Being cool is not at odds with being Superman.
Additionally the focus of the book is on one of Superman's more unique characteristics, that he's not the product of a single moment or trauma, but rather a product of his upbringing. Here we see the individual lessons he learns that set him on the road to becoming Superman:
He's different from others, weird, but it's ok to be weird, and his family and friends love him regardless.
He has an obligation to help where he can, the classic Spider-Man "With Great Power..." teaching.
He can be himself, even when he's being someone else (and American Alien probably has my favorite take on the "Clark and Bruce look alike" gag).
Staying in Smallville his whole life isn't what he wants, he wants to see the world, to travel to interesting places and meet interesting people, to see the bigger picture.
Becoming a better version of himself is part of growing up, and if he doesn't use his gifts then he's wasting them. Especially because there are less scrupulous people out there who have no problem using their gifts to benefit only themselves.
There's room for more than one type of heroism. People can't just be intimidated into not being bad, they need to be inspired into doing good.
Being reckless and reacting emotionally only worsens the situation, but giving up isn't an option because the world needs heroes to give it hope that life can improve.
Superman changes the world simply by existing, and Clark's actions have impact beyond what he can see, so he needs to weigh his actions and consider what the repercussions of what he does are going to be for everyone else.
There are things and people out there capable of hurting even Superman, and he has to be prepared to face them.
Being the Last Son of Krypton doesn't mean he has to go through life alone.
Learning how to be Superman is a process that continues even after Clark has put on the suit and has started saving lives. For all his powers he struggles sometimes to grasp the scope of what he's trying to do, and his friends, family, and even enemies have to slap him upside the head to help him get perspective.

Great as it is, it's obviously not without flaws. Often you will have a character all but break the fourth wall to deliver a monologue on what Landis wants the reader to take away from each issue. Sometimes the panels are overstuffed with dialogue, Landis' background in writing for films hurting the flow of the pages. One issue has Clark burn the arms off a murderer accidentally, and that might be deal-breaker for some (I think getting shot in the face with a shotgun and being a young kid freaking out gives him some leeway, especially since the guy was a piece of shit). But it's all minor flaws at best for me, and I personally rate this alongside Secret Identity as one of the all time greatest Superman stories. Growing up is a journey everyone undergoes, with plenty of setbacks and stumbles along the way, and this story manages to capture that aspect in a way that dumps all over the notion that Superman can't be relatable. This take might lean more on the Everyman side of Superman being the Everyman+, but the core of what makes the character work is intact.
Wouldn't be right to not talk about the art which is crazy good, we'll probably never get to see most of these guys on a Superman ongoing or monthly. Nick Dragotta captures the excitement and terror of kid Clark learning to fly. Tommy Lee Edwards portrays a modern depiction of an American small town and the problems it faces. Joelle Jones gives us a sexy and funny Clark who knows how to party. Jae Lee's Metropolis is bright and sinister at the same time, a place where "visionaries" like Lex Luthor run the show. Francis Manupal paints a beautifully gloomy picture of Clark struggling to figure out how to handle supervillains. Jonathan Case brings a mixture of humor and heart to Clark reconnecting with old friends from Smallville. And Jocks brings it home by putting Clark through the ringer as he finds out what happened to his home planet and has to fight someone as strong as he is. All fantastic artists that turned in beautiful work, and the variant covers were gorgeous too!
If Landis hadn't been a creep, I think it's likely he would have gone on to be a big influence on Superman as a character, given how influential this story has been. Despite neither explicitly naming it as influence, to avoid giving Landis any credit or financial benefit he would be entitled to otherwise I'm sure, you would be hard-pressed to explain away the obvious connections between American Alien and the two new animated incarnations of Superman. My Adventures With Superman has an Asian Lois and a black Jimmy. Parasite and Lobo are the first proper supervillains that Superman in the Man of Tomorrow movie fights, and he even wears a version of the black proto-suit. Both focus on a young Superman just beginning his career as a hero, working as an intern for the Daily Planet, and figuring out what it really means to be Superman. American Alien's depiction of a more grittier, down on it's luck Smallville may also have influenced the take on the town in Superman & Lois. It's rare to see a new book come out and influence an 80+ year old character like that, especially with Superman where adaptions seem stuck to either Donner or Byrne as the main influence.

On the other hand it was likely a blessing in disguise that this is the only major work Landis will ever likely do with the character. His supposed plans for the sequel, Agent of Batman, do not sound appealing for me at all, frankly it sounds like a Dark Knight Strikes Again jumping of the shark. Let this stand as Landis' only work on the character, and let other works/media adaptions mine the best elements of it going forward. That's the best case scenario for me, and what I hope happens. If you're someone who doesn't mind separating the work from the author, or to be frank you just don't care, then by all means read it, because this is one of the best Superman stories.
