january 8, 2024 // omnia vincit aequatio challenge day 5
got up, took the 7:whatever train, went to work
took ibuprofen for the cramps i started having
left for after only two hours because the cramps were not getting better and i felt all kinds of ill
spent the rest of the day in bed, mostly sleeping, crawled out only for an hour or so to attend roommate's birthday celebration downstairs
from an academic point of view and in regards to the challenge, today was a failure. however, days like this happen and if it is at all possible, it is important to let one's body rest and heal.

I'm still studying (for a high-paying public post in Law)
I like studying, I'm good at it
I usually start a study session all interested and engaged
By the end of a long day, I'm positively depressed
Why is that? Anyone relates?

being in your twenties is like [making a nice meal just for yourself] [trying a new hobby] [baking a cake because you want to] [moving in with your best friends] [celebrating small wins] [dreaming up a billion future versions of yourself] [long distance friendship phone calls] [trying new styles] [finding the people you can sit and do nothing with] [having your favourite dishes for dinner] [getting piercings] [trying a new recipe] [finding the people to do kitchen karaoke with] [choosing yourself over and over again] [dinner picnics in the park] [celebrating the big wins] [finding the people to go on day trips with] [learning a new language] [finally getting that one tattoo you've been daydreaming about] [being a regular at a cosy café] [learning how to be your own ally] [dyeing your hair late at night with a friend] [painting your walls] [creating a life you enjoy experiencing]

Incredibly Healthy Habits For Students
The most commonplace advice on good habits for students. This crucial component of a healthy relationship is not to be overlooked.
1. Don’t over-stuff your backpack.
Unless a professor tells the class to bring a textbook – keep that thing at home/in your dorm. Also, try not to carry too much with you anyway. At most I have a spiral or two, my computer. It’s not only unnecessary, but it’s heavy. It wears you down over time just adding stress and annoyance that you don’t need.
2. Work out every week.
Finding time to run a mile or two, play some basketball, or lift weights is important. It was a huge stress reliever for me and it also made me happier.
3. Stop Putting Things Off.
You know you should be finishing homework instead of going out every night. The crazy thing is, we ALL KNOW what we should be doing. But a lot of us still don’t get anything done. I’m in awe of the number of times I have put off studying or reading. However, every time I come to the simple conclusion that getting it done in the beginning is waaaaaay easier than trying to finish the task later.
4. Socialize.
Involvement in college is a spectrum. One extreme includes hobbits who stay in their dorm or apartment all day and the other includes social butterflies who are out on the town every night having fun with friends. Your goal is to find a happy medium. You don’t want to be closed off but you also want to interact with people every once in a while.
For me, this was the hardest part. I do not like to make acquaintances, but for myself I decided that it would be useful. I stepped out of my comfort zone.
5. Eat Healthier.
This is the most predictable advice I can give you. What you put in your body matters.
6. Drink more water.
Drinking water is one of the most essential healthy habits for students.
7. Know When To Say NO.
If you get your work done first, you will have time to have fun without any grief or regrets.
The most important relationship you make in your life is with yourself. It’s genuinely all a mind game. You have to learn to trust yourself by putting yourself first so that you can enjoy what life has to offer you. Having fun with this grey cloud of regret and worry about work you haven’t finished is just not fun at all. So have fun and be yourself but learn when to say NO. You’ll be forever grateful you did in the long run.
8. Give Yourself Grace.
One of the biggest downfalls for me was stressing out. Stressing over school work, time management, boys, networking, and the list goes on. It’s important to shut all the negative voices out.
There’s only one you so treat yourself with respect. If there are things you need to fix, make a plan and make it happen. If that fails, adjust the plan. No one is perfect and I wish we would collectively tell ourselves it’s going to be ok. Because it will be!

(10.28.2022) || spending the weekend with my extended family (aka one of my bffs, her husband, and their daughter who is also my goddaughter 😉). My goddaughter is the cutest kid on the planet, I know I'm biased but it's definitely true. She had gymnastics yesterday and let me say if you've never seen a three year old gymnastics class you've never seen true joy 🥰
I've been thinking about how depressed I've been for the last few years. I feel like all my goals are just out of reach. But I had a bit of a moment this past week where I realized I've been putting a lot on my younger self like "if I'd just done X when I was 22 then I would have Y now" but that's still true. And I had just as many obstacles when I was 22. Life was just as rough when I was an undergrad, that's why I didn't do X. So I owe it to 35 year old Lia to do X now. The worst I can do is fail again, and I've failed before so why not fail again but better this time?

omnia vincit aequatio challenge // update
jan/feb 2024 // trying to see the beautiful in the mess ☕️🧋🎧🧸
So, um, well, how do you say... "oops"? Kinda casually stopped updating myself in my own personal journal and everyone else on my studyblr about my very own very cool study/productivity challenge.
If I had to draw a conclusion of these last four weeks, I'd have to admit that I still didn't produce the academic work and output I had planned and wanted. However, I managed to deal with an immense workload and tackled some planned and some unforeseen tasks that took up a lot of time and energy so it's all pretty okay. (Campus magazine, student assistant tasks, part-time job, helping several people move, being sick for about two weeks, just to name the biggest few.)
I've grown so afraid to open this app or website because I had failed to update my challenge for a couple of days, so out of fear and avoidance, these days turned into weeks and so on. I don't want to let that go on any longer, though, because the studyblr community is giving me so much. Maybe this at least means that I'm starting to take goals I set myself seriously? Onto execution of said seriously-taken goals then!

⟡ Easy Ways to Beat Procrastination ⟡
🎯 Set a small goal: Define a specific, achievable task to start with.
⏰ Use the 2-minute rule: Commit to working on the task for just two minutes to overcome initial resistance. Go lower if need be.
🪑 Create a focused space: Organize your surroundings for a distraction-free work area.
🚫 Cut distractions: Remove or silence anything that might divert your attention.
📝 Break it into steps: Divide the task into smaller, manageable parts to make it less overwhelming.
🏁 Start with the easy part: Begin with the simplest aspect to build momentum and confidence.
🎁 Promise a reward: Plan a small treat for yourself once you complete the task.
⏲️ Set a timer: Use a timer to work in focused intervals, like 25 minutes, followed by a short break.
🌟 Visualize success: Imagine the sense of accomplishment after finishing the task.
🌄 Remember the big picture: Keep in mind the larger purpose and benefits of completing the task.
🤗 Be kind to yourself: Accept any resistance you're feeling without self-criticism.
🚀 Just start anyway: Even if you're not fully motivated, begin the task – momentum often builds as you go.

Romanticising
Actually romanticising my life or at least certain points of it, makes it much much better. Reading, but do it with candles, a good hot chocolate, a nice surrounding: Much better. Studying but do it with good music and surroundings? Hell yeah. Taking a walk but it's in autumn and you can see the many colours swirling around your boots? Yas.
Slay life.
