he was looking for you with yamaguchi by his side, his headphones around his neck as he glanced around for you, his hand in his pockets. he was going to walk you home, like usual. like the two of you had been doing since you met. ao, when he heard you say his name, his full name, from behind the corner, he stopped his friend with his arm, listening closely to what you were saying.
“tsukishima?” you questioned the friend you were talking to.
“no i don’t like him, he’s rude and just doesn’t work towards anything, it’s frustrating.” you scoffed, and as much as tsukishima didn’t want to admit it, he felt his eyes widen, his heart stopped for just a moment.
“i’m just around him because tadashi’s his friend.” yamaguchi’s mouth hung open, shocked at your words as he looked at his friend. tsukishima took a deep breathe before stepping out from around the corner, a deep scowl on his lips.
“good thing I don’t like you either.” he spoke, walking passed you and not looking back. he didn’t really know why he felt like punching something at that moment, you just walked home with him. you came to a few of his games and practices. there was no reason for him to be this upset. there was no reason for his chest to hurt so bad.
εïз┊k. tobio
he left the gym, going to fill up his water bottle that had been emptied for the second time that day. practice had been rough on the boy for a few days. for reasons unknown, he wasn’t feeling up to playing volleyball, which was completely unlike the kageyama tobio everyone knew. instead, he wanted to hang out with you. he didn’t know why. the feeling that arose in his stomach every time he talked to you was foreign, something he’d never felt before nor experienced. he’d done his research here and there though nothing helped his confusion on the matter.
but because of this same reason, he was avoiding you any chance he got. he wasn’t  ready to talk to you yet, because he knew, he just knew he wouldn't be able to form a sentence in front of you until he knew just why his stomach felt so…fluttery whenever he even looked at you. as he stood at the water fountain near the entrance to the school, he glanced to the side, not expecting to see you walking in his direction without realizing he was there. swiftly and quickly, he put the cap back on his bottle and sped to hide behind the large tree that hung over the water fountain, thankfully it was big enough to shield him from your sight. though much to his dismay, your friend had stopped by the fountain for a drink, making you stop and continue the conversation he’d seen you having from afar.
“i just can’t stand him, he’s so awkward.” you rolled your eyes, your hands smoothing back your hair. “and he’s just so obsessed with that sport, if he talks, it’s about volleyball!” you looked so frustrated. who were you talking about? was it someone on the team? kageyama didn’t really know if you were close with anyone else on the team. unconsciously, he leaned towards you, trying to hear as much as he could before you both left. your friend wiped the extra water off their chin.
“yeah, that does sound annoying. can’t you just tell him to stop?”
“well, i’ve thought about it. but even if i do tell him to stop, then he just wouldn’t talk at all.” as you and your friend began walking again, he almost thought about asking you who it was, until your friend spoke once more.
“poor kageyama,” they nudged your arm with their elbow, you could practically hear the grin in their tone. “his only friend talking shit behind his back, he’s lonely enough as it is y/n!” you scoffed, though soon grinned as well.
“i’m sorry he’s just so unlikeable! It’s impossible not to talk shit!” kageyama stood still. unmoving. looking at nothing but your back as you walked away, his eyes wide and mouth agape. what was this feeling he felt in his stomach? yet another unfamiliar feeling, though this one was more, painful, sickening, than the fluffy one he’d felt not too long ago. you were talking about him. not someone else. he was right here, listening to you say you didn’t like him. he was right there, and you didn’t know.
kageyama’s breathe sped up, his chest rising and falling anxiously as you faded into the distance. his first thought, a thought you would’ve probably hated, was to go get a volleyball. go play volleyball. get a volleyball. go, go, go. this thought swarmed through his head like bunches of little bees, and he hated it.
before he knew it, he was back at the gym, his water spilling from the grip he’d had on the bottle. the only thing he could see was that ball right in front of him on the gym floor, and not the people around him trying to help their teammate. “kageyama!” at the sound of hinata's loud voice, he snapped out of whatever trance he was in, staring at the finger while also realizing the amount of people that watched him. “you’re crying, kageyama.” hinata's voice lowered, a concerned tone overpowering the previous annoyed one.
kageyama raised a hand to his face, wiping at his cheek, realizing that yes, he had been crying. and for some reason, some unknown reason, he was now fully aware of the nauseous, painful, overbearing feeling in his entire body. and within seconds, he collapsed. kageyama tobio had never experienced love before. kageyama tobio had never experienced heartbreak before. and now, he’ll never experience either ever again.

he had been on his way out of the school to go home on his day off from practice. a day he’s been looking forward to, not because he’s not going to practice, but because he finally gets to spend some one on one time with you. something you two hadn’t really gotten in a long time. he thought that maybe, just maybe this was the day  he finally asked you out. after months upon months of countlessly chickening out, his teammates somehow got him to agree to confess. he was a little more excited than he should’ve been as his eyes scanned the courtyard for you. you two had agreed on a meeting place so he could technically pick you up and you’d walk together! he really, really hoped everything would go smoothly. he had his whole confession mapped out, he prepared and practiced beforehand so he didn’t look like a complete buffoon in front of you, his only real crush since junior high.
he peaked around the corner of the school, a place he’d always been so excited for school ever since he met you. you made him want to learn even more, to grow so much more. he loved being there with you. as he peaked around the corner, he caught a glimpse of your hair, along with you and your best friend’s voice talking as best friends would. naturally, he didn’t want to interrupt your conversation, so he decided to simply wait by scrolling through his phone until your conversation finished to let you know he was there. and though he didn’t mean to eavesdrop, how could he not?
“i thought you liked him y/n?” “me? Like him? no way.” your voice was low, serious and harsh, catching sugawara off guard. “i thought he was like…the responsible friend of the group. someone who could be chill and not some chaotic fiend like his volleyball friends. he’s just as bad as them and it’s infuriating.” you scoffed, making a pit form in his stomach. who were you talking about? noya? tanaka? he thought you enjoyed everyone on the team.
“but suga’s so nice, you shouldn’t talk about him like that.” your friend's tone was a little more glum than expected and your response was nothing he’d ever think you’d say.
“hmm? i mean not really, he’s just really weird.” his breathing hitched, his heartbeat growing faster and faster by the second. he clutched his phone in his hand, eyes wide as he let the startling information settle in. you…didn’t like him? you didn’t like him. you thought he was weird.  you thought he was infuriating. you didn’t like him.
you couldn’t say that about him, that couldn’t have been you. maybe he mixed you up with someone else because you wouldn’t say that about him. he could’ve sworn you felt the same way. though the fact slowly but surely invaded each and every thought in his mind, making it spin as he left. he walked away, not exactly being able to think right at that moment. he didn’t know how long it took him to wander his way back to his house, his eyes never leaving the ground he walked on.
he opened his house's front door, going in and slowly shutting it as his forehead leaned against the hard wood. “y/n hates me…” though he whispered, the three words echoed through the empty house. soon his whole body weight shifted to lean against the door, his arms stealing himself, his knees buckling before him as he fell to the ground. tears upon tears spilled from his eyes, loud sobs coming from his now sore throat.
he hoped today would go smoothly, and he thought he came up with the worst case scenario. but this…this was truly the worst outcome he could’ve ever imagined.
εïз┊b. koutarou
he said his goodbyes to akaashi before practically running to the classroom you and he shared. today was your one year anniversary...only of being friends… but! it was still an anniversary he’d like to celebrate. he thought for a surprise he’d give a VIP pass to his next game! even if it was just a piece of paper he colored on, he still thought it would mean a lot. he was so ready as he walked up to the classroom door, which was just cracked, just a bit. as his hand brushed the handle to open it, he heard your pretty voice, so he thought he’d wait for you to come out instead, a giddy excited smile on his face, he couldn’t stand still.
“why are you still hanging out with bokuto, y/n? I thought he annoyed you.” his eyebrows furrowed, through his smile still remain.
“he does, he’s just, too much? his mood swings, his energy that never runs out. it’s too much, and yes, it is annoying.” his usual happy smile grew wobbly, unsteady as he felt his head began to pound.
“so, then cut him off, it’s simple.” you sighed.
“well how do i do that? i have every class with him, that would be awkward. i’ll just wait until we graduate, i could probably put up with him until then.” bokuto, despite everything he just heard, smiled. it wasn’t a pretty one, not anymore.
he gently held the VIP pass in his callous hand, looking down at it as his vision got blurry. tears fell off his cheeks, down to the pass he’d worked so hard to make. he tried so hard to make his writing legible, to make it colorful and pretty, just for you since he knew you liked colorful and pretty. before you could come out of the room, he made sure not to let you see him. he walked away, even if class was just about to start. maybe he could skip class, just this once.
εïз┊a. keiji
he strolled throughout the school looking for you, though in no particular rush. he was a little anxious, a little scared to talk to you since once he did find you, he was going to tell you how he felt. something bokuto and konoha had been pressuring him to do for the few years he’d known you. he’d had a crush on you, liked you ever since he told you about his love for writing and reading. you’d supported him when he said he wanted to make a living from it, you smiled and said you’d read his books. that was probably one of his happiest and giddiest moments. he almost fell in love with you on the spot. usually, he was not one to trust people too quickly, but you were the exception. you made him feel so safe, like he was in the right place when he was by your side.
it was such an indescribable feeling he felt when he sees you smile, laugh, giggle, anything of the sort. your smile was contagious, your laugh as well. It was something he thought he’d never be able to go a day without. so, as he was just about to walk around the corner, he suddenly heard your laugh, your giggle and immediately stopped in his tracks as a lopsided smile appeared on his lips. and despite him wanting to be respectful and give you your privacy while talking to your friend, he couldn’t help but listen as he stood listening to your giggles.
“no, no! they’re actually pretty stupid. like the ideas themselves are terrible but then he’s actually worse at putting them onto paper.” akaashi’s smile turned into one of confusion. since when did you talk so harshly towards people? and he was even more confused that you weren’t talking to him about this, you told him everything. did someone make you upset? he could surely help you if you talked to him.
“is it really that bad?”
“it is, plus he’s just so quiet and he stares…a lot and honestly it’s really uncomfortable.” someone made you uncomfortable? suddenly he felt himself become more engaged in your conversation, wanting to figure out just who made you feel the way you did. was it someone in your class? it must have been, right?
“aww well that sucks, he was kinda cute too.”
“i mean, the looks go to waste when you have a terrible personality.” your voice got quieter as you and your friend began walking away. “i guess that just means akaashi will never get in a relationship cuz if  i don’t like him, no one will.” akaashi leaned against the wall, your voice playing on repeat in his head. you were talking about him? the whole time? he made you uncomfortable? he stared at you? he lacks personality? his writing was terrible, stupid..?
a sudden pain coursed through his chest as he dragged a hand over his slightly opened mouth, shocked and confused. his chest tightened, and although this anxious feeling was one he experienced quite often, this time it was for a reason he’d never been through before. and before he knew it, his vision blurred, his head grew fuzzy, and he felt…small. yiny and trapped inside the ways of his overthinking and pained mind. he was truly hoping to walk out of school with your hand in his. instead, he ran out, pained and crying.
εïз┊o. tooru
he was wandering throughout the school, looking for you specifically. not only did he want you to come to practice and watch him since he knew you enjoyed seeing him play, but he just wanted to spend as much time with you as possible. you were his first crush in a while, so it’d only make sense for him to want to be around you so much. yes, he does admit it’s a lot, but he just doesn’t want to lose you.
he was in an especially good mood today, not for any particular reason, he just…was so grateful to have you around. you were like the sun in his life, his beacon of light and hope he couldn’t get anywhere else. you made him feel like he was enough, that he’s done his best throughout his life. and truly, just seeing your smile was enough to brighten his day, being around you in general made his day so much better. he really didn’t know what he’d ever do without you. that was his last thought as he heard your voice coming from around the corner, the angelic voice he loved to hear every single day.
“oikawa?” he thought you knew he was there, but when you kept talking, he stopped where he stood. “that self absorbed jerk? what about him?” his genuine smile he’d had all day fell into a confused frown as he tried to process your words.
“i’m shocked you deal with him all the time.”
“yeah i know, he’s so clingy, and not to mention a volleyball obsessed arrogant narcissist, that’s it, i can’t stand him sometimes.” your voice rose without you knowing it, your friend that stood with you telling you to calm down.
oikawa’s pulse quickened, his breathing unsteady though he put a smile on his face once more as he walked around the corner. but this smile was one of a pure facade he’d perfected oh so long ago. “y/n-Chan~ i’ve been looking everywhere for you!” he laughed, giggled as he through an arm around your shoulder. though he heard you, loud and clear, he’d pretend he heard nothing. nothing at all because he knew his heart couldn’t handle the pain of letting you go so soon.
εïз┊s. kiyoomi
he walked throughout the crowded hallways, heading to volleyball practice like any other day. though, today was a bit different since you weren’t with him. usually you’d walk next to him, talking his ear off while he went to practice after school, but not today apparently. it confused him, worried him, but he wouldn’t say it outloud. it was as he was rounding a corner that he understood why you weren’t with him, you were leaning against the wall, holding your books, your friend talking to you about something. he didn’t want to be nosy, so he was just going to go around, it wasn’t any of his business. until he heard his name.
“sakusa? no, of course i don’t like him, he’s an asshole,” his eyebrows furrowed, you said it in such an obvious tone, it confused him. your friend agreed. was he rude? he didn’t think he’d ever been mean to you, so why? “and just between us, volleyball isn’t as cool as he thinks it is. i don’t know why he wants to do it professionally. it’s-”
at that point, he left. he didn’t need to hear anymore, he knew where you stood and he wouldn’t bother you anymore. it was an interesting feeling, because while he was angry, he was hurt and for the first time in a long time, he felt his vision get blurry, tears filling them to the brim. why would he cry for you? why did his heart just break in two? if you’d just waited a little longer, he might’ve gotten warmed up to you. showed you his soft, vulnerable side.
but now, standing on the court playing alongside a professional team, doing what he loved, he’s glad he didn’t show you anything. he’s glad he didn’t have you standing next to him, but he hopes you see him. see him on your TV and think to yourself, ‘wow, he did it.’ because now, he knew he didn’t need you.
εïз┊t. satori
he pranced around looking for you throughout the dorms. you both were going to hang out and he was told to meet you near the entrance of the dorms. he was super excited because after a lot of thinking, he decided this would be the day he told you he liked you. you’d been friends for a while, about six months, and throughout those months, he grew to have a huge crush on you. you just treated him, normally. you weren’t freaked out by him like many others were and he was always grateful for that. because you were different.
but as he was about to round a corner, he heard your voice and his first thought was to hide and scare you once you turned around, he always he that to you, it was something that was just kinda a part of your friendship. so, he leaned his back against the wall, smirking to himself as you spoke with your friend, someone he’d never met but that was fine with him. “i should probably go, tendou will be here in a few minutes.” you complained, fed up and annoyed. it made him worry a bit, but he knew he could cheer you up, like all the other times!
“tendou? you still hang out with him?”
“yeah, for some reason i still do.” you sighed, and tendou’s eyebrows furrowed, confusion the only feeling in his body at that moment, his heartbeat speeding up just a bit. “he just..he just creeps me out. does that make sense?”
“oh yeah, of course it does, i’m pretty sure he creeps everyone out.” tendou’s eyes grew wide as he stared at the ground, a pit forming in his stomach, making him nauseous where he stood.
he couldn’t bring himself to listen to the rest of your conversation, instead just trudging back to his dorm room, his eyes never leaving the floor he walked on. looks like you weren’t different, not different at all.

You couldn’t sleep.
Every time you closed your eyes it was like the image of the boys were burned into your retinas. At first, it had incited some sort of rage in you - their actions at the diner curdled with the waffles you had eaten, churning in a way that made your stomach feel tight and queasy. Admittedly,  Daichi got to you the most. He was never one to hide his emotions, but he usually kept his sadness to himself. It took a lot of effort over many years of friendship to get Daichi comfortable with expressing that in front of you. Seeing him so emotional, exhaustion weighing on his shoulders, had struck something in you. Not that you were sure what that emotion was.
The longer Kiyoko drove, the less angry you felt. The rage from the diner slid off your shoulders like water - which only allowed for fatigue to settle itself across your chest. Of course, that didn’t mean you could sleep. Instead, you gnawed on your lip and focused your gaze on the back of Yachi’s headrest, trying desperately not to think of the situation.
Every time you thought back on the weekend that had passed, you couldn’t help but cringe. When they had talked about adding a third to their relationship, you had been so caught up in how you felt that you hadn’t stopped to be logical. Of course, seeing them with someone like that would hurt, but it would hurt so much more to not see them at all. There wasn’t much time for you to stop and be realistic about the situation. You four had known each other so long there was no way they would let you walk out of their lives that easily.
Resting your head in your hands, you sighed.
“You okay?”
You snorted, lifting your head to catch Kiyoko’s eye through the mirror.
“Would you be?”
She hummed, shrugging her shoulders.
“Probably not” she began, “but me and Yachi talk about our feelings.”
She paired her statement with a smile and a pointed look. Yikes. She was correct, naturally, but it didn’t make it any easier to hear. Her ‘I told you so’ tone made you cringe and immediately jump to defend yourself.
“Okay, yeah good point, but it’s harder when its three of them and we’ve known each other for forever”
“And you’ve been moping for half of that”
Grumbling, you adjusted in your seat. She was right, as Kiyoko often is. Deep down you knew it was dumb for you to sit on these feelings for so long and never even drop a hint to the boys about your feelings. You would say it was fear, but you knew it was cowardice.
The traffic slowed to a stop in front of you, it was mid-evening now so you knew Kiyoko would be dying to get out and stretch her legs at some point. It would be a good opportunity to wake Yachi up from her never-ending nap and grab some coffee for the night stretch of the drive. The car had passed a marker for a rest stop a couple miles back anyway. The woman in the front whipped out her phone while the traffic was at a standstill and shot off a few texts rapidly.
“This traffic doesn’t seem to be letting up any time soon, you should get some sleep and i’ll wake you up when we get to the rest stop”
Knowing Kiyoko, this was more of a ‘listen to me’ than a suggestion. Regardless, you felt your eyelids begin to droop at the mention of a nap. Soon enough, your head was resting against the cool window and you were drifting off.
Your body was jostled awake by the car pulling in. Night time had truly fallen by this point and the LEDs on the dash told you it had reached 9pm. Shifting, you forced your joints to crack and pop as you stretched your body back to life. Your joints screamed at you to get out of the cramped vehicle.
“We’re here!”
You groaned at Yachi’s chipper tone.
“Come on sleeping beauty, lets get some coffee”
The industrial lights of the rest stop burned your eyes as soon as you walked through the revolving doors. The white linoleum floor squealed against your trainers and the swishing and screaming of coffee machines made your ears hurt. The crying had caused your nose to stuff up to the point you could tell your eyes were still crusty and puffy, even without checking in a mirror. Still, you persevered and trudged towards the coffee shop at the back of the stop.
“We’re gonna go to the bathroom and meet you back at the car, that okay?” Kiyoko asked, pressing a palm to your shoulder.
You nodded, rubbing your eyes.
Honestly, you really didn’t give a shit if you were left alone in the rest stop - it meant you could escape its stupidly bright lights and ridiculous shiny flooring as soon as possible. Maybe having a coffee in your hand at the end of all this will make the awful situation seem ever so slightly better. But, until you had that coffee, you would continue grouchily stomping up the aisles of the rest stop.
By the time you got back to the car, you assumed the girls would've already sat in the front seats - waiting for you to get back. Instead, the front seats were dark and empty and there was no sign of the couple.
You tried the door - locked.
Footsteps echoed behind you. Your heart fell to your stomach.
“y/n, thank god”
Your head whipped around, coming face to face with the three people you wanted to see least right now. Your mouth opened and closed like a fish. The coffee cup trembled in your grasp and you tried desperately to pretend like it was the cold.
“Suga-what? Why are you guys here?” you asked, tripping on your words.
“Because you ran off!”
Taken aback, you took a step backwards towards the car. Suga, or even Daichi, talking to you like that. As with every friendship, there had been ups and downs but you and Asahi rarely argued. So him bursting out in an undeniably emotional way came as a shock to you.
“Did Kiyoko text you?” you asked incredulously, ignoring his previous statement.
“Yeah we know we messed up Y/n, but you need to give us a chance to explain ourselves” he continued, running a hand through his hair, “you can’t just call Kiyoko and expect her to save you”
The sense of betrayal squeezed your stomach, even tighter, sending heat rushing through your limbs. Your mouth hung open in shock. The rage bubbled up inside you once again and you clenched your fist against the side of your jeans.
“I ran away? You pushed me out! All three of you did, with your secrecy and your whispering and your keeping things from me” you ranted.
“I am your friend, your best friend at that. You tell me when you change anything about your life but when you want to add some random person to your relationship - that's suddenly not for me to know? Because that makes so much sense!”
You gasped. That wasn’t meant to come out.
The three men in front of you stared at you in shock. Asahi’s face was red as a firetruck and the other two were holding each other's hand in a death grip. Even though it had been upsetting you, that information was still something you were not meant to know. You couldn’t help but feel a curl of shame choking your stomach in its grip. Gnawing on your lip, you pulled your arms around your torso and shrunk away from the three men in front of you. It was easy to pretend that they were the ones at fault, and their actions definitely still hurt, but you were face to face with the consequences of your own actions and unable to accept that.
A laugh broke you out of your stupor. It was a classic Daichi chuckle, mixed with hints of disbelief. You’d be lying if you said it didn’t make you somewhat insecure.
“Oh my god, Y/n this is why we say you need to listen to us.” huffed Koushi.
Asahi was just standing there in front of you, shoulders sagged. You stepped towards him, confusion still racking your brain. As much as you were upset with them right now, Asahi was still your friend and you knew how sensitive he could get.
“It’s you, y/n” he mumbled.
You paused, brows shooting up.
“Huh”
“It’s you, you’re the fourth person, you’re who we were talking about”
It felt like the wind had been sucked from your stomach. The bitterness of your coffee sat heavy on your tongue and began to make your stomach churn. Stumbling, you grasped tightly onto Asahi’s hands in front of you.
“You’re not serious?” you forced out, looking him in the eye.
You could not have missed that. You searched for any sign they might like you continuously for the past almost-decade of friendship. Again and again you found nothing, so why has that changed now? They wouldn’t be messing with you, that’s not something Asahi would do. You scrunched your nose in confusion.
“Yes we’re serious, why do you think we’d hide it from you? That makes no sense at al-”
You cut the taller man off with a teary laugh, launching yourself at him to wrap him in a hug. He let out a small ‘oof’, obviously shocked - but held you in his arms regardless.
“y/n, you’re always telling us about the value of communication and then you pull shit like this on us” came a teasing muse from the silver-haired man behind you.
“Oh shush Kou, come here - both of you”
The other two joined your hug. Suga wiggled between you and your larger companion and Daichi wrapped his strong arms around all three of you. God, you were so stupid.
“Wait, what does this mean?” you asked, pulling back, “for us then, for our friendship?”
“Uh, whatever you want it to mean really. I suppose it’s up to you” Daichi mumbled, scratching his head.
“Um no, not saying what we really want is how we got into the situation in the first place, we need to tell the truth” Suga scolded, rubbing his hand up and down his brunette boyfriend's shoulder.
“We would like you to join our relationship, y/n. Officially”
Asahi spoke softly, resting his hands on your waist.
Butterflies exploded in you. A grin broke out across your face, your gaze shifting to each one of the men in front of you. Naturally, you had imagined this moment several times - mostly teenage daydreaming. Everything from intimate confessions with dozens of roses, to loud and garish prom-confessions on the dancefloor had been imagined. Nothing, however, could compare to the feeling of hearing the words in real life.
“We love you” Suga spoke gently into your ear.
“And we want you,” Daichi added.
Tears welled up in your eyes and you sniffed. Nodding, you wrapped your arms around all three and best you could and tilted your head back in a giddy laugh. None of this felt real. It was almost too good to be true.
Cold droplets began to fall out of the sky, hitting heated skin from the rush of the confessions. As the drops began to pelt your face and shoulders, you turned to the boy closest to you and grabbed his jaw in your hands.
“You mean it? Really, you’ll have me?”
“Y/n, it’s always been you - nobody else was an option” he confirmed, holding the hand you had placed on his face.
The long-haired man in question moved the hand on your waist to your back, pulling you close to his face. And, finally, he kissed you. It was warm and comforting, you could ignore the rain pelting down on you because of the explosions of colour that were pulsing from your connected mouths.
“Hey, stop hogging”
Koushi shouldered Asahi out of the way, not giving you a moment to breathe before plastering himself on you. You laughed into the kiss. It wasn’t as slow and passion filled as Asahi, but it was your Suga all over. Quick and hot and excited, he slid his hands to your waist and connected your hips together as you kissed. It was certainly a steaming first kiss and you were certainly not complaining.
Daichi groaned next to you, clearly done with his excitable boyfriends antics. The resignation in his tone caused you to giggle and break the kiss - something that elicited a pout out of the man in your arms.
Sawamura’s strong arms muscled you out of the grip of Suga. The strongest boyfriend was never one to be outdone, he had that firefighter, classic gentlemen energy and it showed in the way he held you.
The brunette smiled, resting his forehead against yours.
“It finally feels complete, we should’ve asked you about 5 years sooner than we did”
“To be fair, I did not make it easy for you, did i?” you cringed again.
He chuckled, shaking his head and snaked his arms around your body. The two of you connected your lips together, moving against one another in a familiar way. Daichi’s kisses felt like the kisses you had seen in Disney movies when you were younger - soft, passionate and romantic.
The rain was hammering down now, soaking your clothes and hair all the way through. You broke apart from Daichi when you heard cheering from the front of the rest stop.
Kiyoko and Yachi stood at the entrance, an umbrella covering them. The smaller blonde was jumping up and down, her girlfriends arm wrapped loosely around her shoulders. Kiyoko made eye contact with you, nodding gently in approval. Smiling, you nodded back.
You felt your cheeks warm and turned to hide your face in Suga’s shoulder.
“Sooo” you started, “does this mean i have three boyfriends now, cause that’s gonna be hard to explain to the guys”
The three men in front of you chuckled.
“It’s none of their business for now” mused Koushi, nosing at your jaw.
“We have a whole holiday to think about it, don’t we?” Asahi smiled down at you, “but boyfriends sounds good to us”
You nodded, smiling bashfully up at him.
“Come on, let's get you into the car hmm?” Daichi asked, sliding an arm around your hips.
—
The white sheets crinkled from where they were tucked around your hips. The bed sheets of the villa you ended up at were crisp and starched, but the bed was warm around you like a cloud. The birds chirped outside, fluttering around the window in the morning sun and the fresh scent of coffee wafted in from the kitchen. It was heaven.
Best of all was the tan arm wrapped around you and the smaller, paler arm rubbing up and down you back - getting dangerously low to where the sheets covered your hips.
“Sugawara Koushi, you better be careful” you grumbled, sleep adding voice rising from your dent in the pillow.
The man in question huffed behind you, stopping his hand just beneath Daichi’s arm on your waist.
“Finally awake i see”
You snorted.
“Yeah cause you can’t keep your hands to yourself” you mused, rolling onto your back.
Daichi was very much still asleep next to you, the drive there must have taken it out of him because he was dead to the world - face down on the pillow snoring. A real shame considering you were now allowed to take full advantage of his shirtless sleeping policy.
Suga slid over the bed towards you, pulling you by your hip towards him. Nuzzling his face into your neck, he began to plant soft, slow kisses up and down the column. You hummed, enjoying the blissful moment.
“Oh - uh” came Asahi’s stutter from the door, “i got you guys coffee”
Suga snorted into your neck, the moment gone. Regardless, you found your tall and awkward partner adorable and reached out towards him. Partially for coffee, but mostly so he would join you on the bed. He smiled, slipping into the sheets beside your sleeping boyfriend and handing the coffees over to you.
You held the warm coffee cup in your hands and levelled your gaze over all three of your partners, curled up in bed with you. Things were just how they were supposed to be.

“i love you... but you're not mine.”
🌼 (sugawara koushi ver.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
you used to love how he smiled, it was like every room he entered would light up and get a little warmer, a little more comfortable; like everything felt okay now that he was here, now that he was smiling and telling everyone that what they're doing is enough. it was hard for you to feel enough on some days, it was even harder for you to cope with the fact that you saw some undesirable traits about you–and yet, sugawara never let you go one day without feeling like you're the prettiest person in the world–and to him, you really were.
"come on now..." he'd whisper to you in a soft, loving tone and extend his hands out to you–his calloused hands that always stung after a practice match, those tirelessly doting hands that never stopped to reach out to you and offer to help you, to comfort you, to be there in any time of your need. he'd crouch down to your level and look at you with the sweetest eyes you've ever seen; he takes your hands in his so gently, and he holds you.
his touch is light, though you can feel him squeezing you every now and then. the best feeling sugawara has ever experienced is that cathartic wave washing away some of the sadness, self-deprecation, loneliness, and other negative feelings or fears you've got plaguing you at the moment. "...you're perfect just the way you are." he muttered as he ran the pads of his fingers across the back of your hands. "i know it's hard, but... i'll help you learn to love yourself; i already know you're really lovable to me, to the rest of the team, once you realize how amazing you are on your own... i hope you'll never wish you were anyone else anymore, because you're already amazing as yourself." he gushed with a comforting voice.
well, that was the most sugarcoated lie you've ever been told.
how could you not wish to be anyone else... if your bestfriend beat you to confessing to him? beat you to being his partner...?
how could you not wish to be anyone else but his?
you wished this was a sick joke, that your close friend–whom you always confided in that you liked sugawara, that you enjoyed being with him, that you felt happiest with him–that you... loved sugawara–had confessed to him out of the blue, on the very day you were going to confess to him.
it seems that they beat you to it, and the worst part is...
sugawara loved them back.
you stood there by the doors of the gym, your hands empty after you unknowingly dropped the treats you made for him and the letter you wrote that had all your love for him written out in words you could never have pictured yourself writing down to anyone before–
–all to have your bestfriend steal him away from you.
when he cried tears of joy that the object of his affections reciprocated his love... you cried tears of melancholy at the boy you loved most being taken away from you right before your very eyes.
"hey... remember, you don't have to be someone else to be loved–i love you for who you are, inside and out." he reminded you with a wide, happy grin as he held your hands in his–his right wrist donning the bracelet your bestfriend–his partner–made for the two of them; they matched... and it hurt badly to think about how cute and happy he seemed with them.
sure, he loved you, you could tell that much...
...but only as a friend.

Full Stop
The cloudy sky wasn't exactly inviting. The cold wind practically forced those who ventured out to wear some warm clothing.
Sugawara's hands were steady on the steering wheel. The route of his journey was clear in his mind despite everything. The last stop of his trip.
Koushi woke up early that day. It was going to be a somewhat different day.
He got out of bed and walked to the bedroom window. He didn't even need to fully open the blinds to see that the weather forecast had been wrong the night before. The sun didn't show up, instead, there were clouds too dark to be from a passing drizzle. The wind howled as it collided with his building.
Koushi allowed himself to stay there for a while. Just watching the street until he finally decided to change clothes.
Sugawara had never realized how loud that wall clock could be. It seemed that the more he focused on the clock, the louder its sound became.
Loud and annoying. Hammering in his head as he tried to have his coffee.
That's when he snapped out of it. Was he really getting angry at a clock?
It had been a long time since he had been in that apartment. Maybe he hadn't chosen a more opportune moment to get out for a bit.
Sugawara parked his car under a tree. Not that it made much difference with that weather anyway.
That was Sugawara's first stop. A coffee shop. It was a small and simple business. Managed by the same family since its doors were opened to the public.
There weren't many people when he entered the establishment. The same college student occupied a table in the back to work on her thesis, the same old man read his newspaper, the same couple had the same discussion about moving apartments.
There weren't many people, but the usual people were there. And that gave him a strange feeling. As if everything was different and at the same time... the same. And no one else seemed to notice except him.
"Good morning," he greeted the attendant. A helpful and friendly tone of voice. "Do you need anything?"
Automatically, Sugawara's lips formed a small smile.
"Not for now. Thank you."
With a nod, the boy returned to his previous task, cleaning the counter. Koushi took the opportunity to choose a place.
It was funny. It was on a day somewhat like this one that they discovered that coffee shop. The only difference was that at the time Sugawara didn't have a car and they were both surprised by the rain while strolling. It forced them to find a place to wait for it to pass.
[Name] was the first to see the place. Her hand held tight to his as they ran inside. Looking back now, he wondered if they really needed to do that. It's not like they were made of sugar or anything.
But anyway, fate presented them with a nice place to go to once in a while.
Unlike other people, he and [Name] never had assigned seats, but that didn't stop them from having good memories there.
The first thing that came to his mind was when she caught his attention with some urgency while he sweetened his coffee.
When his gaze met hers, he could see what looked like a broken toothpick in her mouth, simulating vampire fangs.
She took them out shortly after, burying her face in the table to laugh. Koushi followed almost instantly. Now the memory made him chuckle softly, it was a bit pleasant to remember that.
[Name] had grown up with a sister who repudiated childish behavior. So, when she had the opportunity to play a prank, she took it.
Sugawara's gaze found the beautiful plant that stood in the corner of the establishment. So silently imposing with its branches always very well trimmed.
He had a small specimen of that at home. When [Name] saw it, she practically fell in love at first sight.
Koushi didn't even understand what she said before he saw her rushing towards the counter, bombarding the attendant with questions about that plant. She just wanted one like that.
The plant belonged to the boy's grandmother. Sugawara had to hold back a laugh on the day they went for a walk and the lady gave him a little seedling. [Name] looked like a child at Christmas when she received that little pot.
Currently, it wasn't as big as the one in the establishment, but it already took up a nice space in the corner of his apartment's living room.
Maybe Sugawara had allowed himself to stay longer than necessary in that coffee shop, but he didn't mind much. At least he had a snack for later waiting on the passenger seat.
When he was back in his car, the wind was stronger, colder. He thanked himself for wearing one of the heavy coats; they were the warmest.
His hands held the steering wheel firmly. He knew exactly where he was going now.
For an hour, the radio was his company as the city and its everyday sounds were left behind.
Occasionally, other vehicles appeared and soon disappeared from his sight, but where he was going, it was very likely that only he would be there now.
The strong wind whipped his face, but the sight of the empty beach in front of him made him not pay much attention to it.
He had been there so many times. With family, club members... But never with [Name].
Thanks to the sneakers he was wearing, Koushi couldn't feel the beach sand as he approached the sea. It was a pity, he quite liked that.
He stopped in front of that blue expanse. The first memories that came to his mind were of Tanaka and Nishinoya with their idiotic antics in the water. Hinata teasing Kageyama, because apparently, the other didn't know how to float.
[Name] knew all these stories and many others. And no matter how many times he had told the same story, she always laughed in the same way. Truly, the period when he studied was full of characters.
When he told these stories to [Name] for the first time, she confessed to him that she had never been to the beach and it was one of the things she wanted to do the most.
Sugawara promised her that as soon as they got a car and time, he would be sure to take her, especially to see the sea.
In the end, he never fulfilled that promise.
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. When he opened them again, he was looking at the sky, at the dark clouds.
At that moment, Koushi felt peace. Maybe not the way he wanted, but somehow he hoped that, from up there, the bride had seen the beach and liked it as much as he always did.
Suddenly a drop of water fell on his forehead, making him blink reflexively. The small drop was the pioneer of a rain that made Sugawara run back to his car. He ran so desperately that he seemed to be made of sugar.
Daichi and Asahi helped him organize the last boxes of his move in the trunk of the car. Sugawara had found a job in the neighboring town. It would be good, he said. A change of scenery, of faces; a fresh start.
That's why he went to the coffee shop and the beach. They were important places for him, they had their weight in his life. But perhaps both had too much weight.
It wasn't easy. It took quite some time until he finally had enough courage to, following Asahi's cliché yet efficient analogy, put an end to it to start a new chapter.
"Come on. What's this?" Sugawara said with a smile as he saw his two friends struggling not to cry "I'm just going to the neighboring town. No need for this."
"Good luck, Suga," Daichi said as he hugged him.
"Yeah," Asahi did the same - "Good luck."
Soon Koushi got into his car. His friends waved as he drove away, until they disappeared from sight.
The feeling of anxiety in his chest was normal, but he was also content as he turned on the radio to enjoy the trip.

Karasuno boys as... "Vampire" song lyrics!
(+ Short scenarios)
Info:
-future! Karasuno boys x gn! Reader
-No Tanaka, he's married after all 🤷🏻‍♀️
-toxic relationship
-cursing
-slight angst (i guess)
Daichi:
"I loved you truly
Gotta laugh at the stupidity"
"I should've known it was strange
You only come out at night"
>> You always found it weird that Daichi would go out around midnight or almost midnight, I'm talking about 10, 11 or 12PM and then come back an hour and a half later. God you hate yourself for falling into his trap when he assures you saying, "It's required for me to patrol around the area" or "you know I'm a police officer, babe" and due to your sincere love for him, you always did understand his responsibilities.
Although you can't help but notice that every time he comes back, he smells and looks.. fresh? Like he had just taken a shower and re-used his clothes.
Maybe he did take a shower with a girl he was giving an after care for. Maybe he was patrolling the area of his girl's apartment. But you can't do anything, you don't have enough evidence.
Sugawara:
"Cause I've made some real big mistakes
But you make the worst one look fine"
"You're so convincing
How do you lie without flinching?"
>> Sugawara gave you an extra key to his class just in case he locks the door and you wanted to visit him. Your relative, who goes to the school that he teaches, called you and told you how amazing his day was, you found it weird that Sugawara isn't home yet. "That's awesome, buddy! But I gotta go, alright? I'll call later on, bye-bye!"
Once you hung up, you drove as fast as you can to the school and came into his classroom without warning.
You saw a woman sitting on Suga's desk, while he has his right arm wrapped around her waist. The woman could only eye you up and down before turning to yell at Suga, "I thought you told them? Gosh Suga! We've been over this for what? A thousand time?!" The said woman jumped out of his grasp, pushed you aside and walked out while slamming the door behind her.
He scoffs at you before opening the door and chasing after the woman.
He left you, huh? Of course he did.
Asahi:
"Bleedin' me dry, like a goddamn vampire"
>> Being an apparel designer and someone who used to get nervous all the time, Asahi gets insecure about the things that he has or had created. He always yearns for your compliment and your opinion both for him and his designs.
And God did it drain you, always saying "you did a great job today, pretty boy" "look at this! One thing missing and after that, it'll be all perfect!" You acted more like his worker rather than his partner, to be honest.
Nishinoya:
"Ooh, what a mesmerizing, paralyzing, fucked-up little thrill
Can't figure out just how you do it, and God knows I never will"
>> Nishinoya takes you with him every time he goes travelling, he winks at you before saying, "It's my treat, love"
After a long day, you both headed onto a nearby hotel before resuming your adventures for tomorrow. The room was spacious, the balcony had the best view and you were busy day dreaming while Noya went into the hotel lobby to fetch you both some food and when he came back, he surprised you with your favorite meal!
You're so easy to distract that you missed the kiss mark on his temple and his neck.
Kageyama:
"The way you sold me for parts
As you sunk your teeth into me, oh
Bloodsucker, famefucker
Bleedin' me dry, like a goddamn vampire"
>> Kageyama kept your relationship very lowkey, he didn't wanna make you overwhelmed by the amount of fans and paparazzi that's on his back, but his team does know you.
When Kageyama is fast asleep, you grab his phone and tries to find one of his teammate's number and luckily, you did!
2:09 AM:
"Hi! Kageyama's girlfriend here, I got your number off of his phone. Can you please help me set up a party for him? Thank you and it's no biggie if you decline."
5:31 AM
"Hey, you have a different number? Gosh [random name] you didn't tell me sooner."
"I'm sorry you must've misunderstood, It's actually Y/n!"
"Oh, Y/n? Aren't you his one night stand? Please stop messaging me, i'm uncomfortable knowing Tobio has a girlfriend and you're trying to earn his attention. Thank you for the efforts of reaching out for me."
He kept you a secret because all they know is you were nothing but a fling to him.
Hinata:
"How's the castle built off people you pretend to care about?"
>> When Hinata got home from practice, he could tell that you were tired and he asked about your day, "Nothing much, just stressful customers always making a scene, you know?" You laugh at your words while Hinata looked into your eyes, "That's sad." He coughs "anyways my day was more stressful than yours, I–"
You spaced out while his rambling started.
Did he even put himself into your shoes?
Tsukishima:
"I used to think I was smart
But you made me look so naive"
"And every girl I ever talked to told me you were bad, bad news
You called them crazy, God, I hate the way I called them crazy too"
>> Tsukishima has you wrapped around his fingers and he knows it. He made you so dependent on him that he knows you can't even go on a day without telling him stories. Gosh he loves the way you're so easy to manipulate! you could've lent in some time for the girls to explain themselves but no, you took his words.
What a fool.
Yamaguchi:
"Went for me, and not her
'Cause girls your age know better"
>> Yamaguchi likes someone from his class, but when you confessed to him, he can't help but accept it out of pity. And Yamaguchi successfully shaped you into his crush. Making you trim your hair, dress in a different aesthetic and even changing the way you talk, just for him. And gosh when you saw the way he looked at the person he liked, you noticed something similar about them.
Everything. You're like that person's mirror.

The Art of Waiting
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"A prelude spin-off for an upcoming fic"
warnings: afab!reader, angst? comfort? fluff? i dont know how to categorize this
A Sugawara Koshi x reader one shot or maybe not
a/n: ehem hope you all like this, you be the judgeーis this fluff or angst?
Tumblr media
Daichi is clueless, and irritating, and pushy, andーbam! Koshi stubbed his pinky toe at the side of his bed. He doubled over in his bed through the pain coursing through his leg, it's tearing him up.
"DAICHI YOU IDIOOOOT!!"
"KEEP IT DOWN!"
His dorm-neighbor yelled back through the walls. He bit his lip as he soothed the pain and cursing his bestfriend in his mind, killing him as he did. His eyes might lasered a hole at the wall he's facing in the intense imagination he's having.
He rubbed his eyes in his knees in hopes of curbing the pain and irritation he's feeling since he got Daichi's text that morning.
"Just meet her, okay. If it doesn't work, then no biggie. You have to date around, Suga."
Like hell! You have to date around Suga, he is even SOOO dense with Yui's feelings, how fucking of an idiot is he to say that to him! And Asahiーthe innocent and timid Asahiーeven supported thisーUgh!
"Well, we're not getting any younger, Suga. Just give it a try."
"Fuck it!" He rashly got on his feet andーbam! "MOTHERFUCKER!!"
"SUGAWARA!"
He groaned a loud apology and got on the showers through the pain in his pinky toe. He has to get over this quickly. He has to get back to Karasuno the day after to see her. It's their usual weekend routine. No one's gonna ruin it. Not even this blind date he's having in an hour.
Your eyes rounded with your lips when you got a text from Daichi about a blind date with his friend, Sugawara Koshi. You knew of him, trailing with Daichi whenever vacants were on, you sneaking glances on him as he walks by you in certain places around the campus. This is not even a blind date for you. He is your crush. And Daichi is clueless, much to your amusement.
You squealed and hid your face with your pillow, thinking of this unearthly chance you got, thanking Daichi and the heavens for it. You stared at his text one more time and got all smiles again.
"His name is Sugawara Koshi, Y/n. He's outgoing, you'll like him. Go have a blind date with him, okay? I'll be grateful if this works out, two of my unacquainted friends getting to know each other."
Yes, Daichi. Yes. And I'll be forever and ever be grateful to you if this works out., you thought as you buried your face again in your pillow squealing again.
Three hours still to go but you decided to start picking whichever cute clothes you would wear to impress Koshi. Time to get that man of your dreams.
It was a cloudy 4pm afternoon and the spring air gets chilly in your lungs. You love the feeling. Spring is blooming from winter, and this is spring for you. You excitedly got into this cafe near the campus and saw him on the edge, sitting, fiddling on his phone as he stares outside.
You can die right then and there at his side-profile, you can't wipe the smile off your face as you walk to the table he's in. He spotted you when you're three steps in. He flashed a grin and stood up, offering an "Hi. You look cute." You can die already at the compliment.
"Hi. Thanks. I'm Y/n. You must be Sugawara Koshi?" Act innocent, check!
He nodded, still grinning at you. "Yes. C'mon, sit."
You sat across him and stared at him for a brief second before grinning back at him. "Well, um.. Daichi.." You trailed, lost for words at this event. Oh my God, I love you Daichi!
"Yep. Daichi is our mutual friend." He rubbed the back of his neck and ruffled his hair as he goes. "He can be pushy sometimes. I'm sorry."
"No, no. It's okay. I also wanted to meet new people around the circle." He nodded, dimples forming in his lower cheeks you wanted to poke them. But behave, you.
Both of you ordered some snacks as you both shared some infos and cues you got. No matter how shallow, you're exhilerated on getting to even speak with him, much more on getting to know him. He was what you expected, and as what Daichi said, outgoing. And all smiles. And funny. And charming, and so so adorable. His smiles never left his lips as he talks, asking you questions about your college experience and course. You answered diligently, joking through to which he throws a joke back to make you both laugh.
It was wonderful. It was candid.
Till it dropped, all at once.
You saw his grinning and enjoying expression dropped as a jingle sounded through the cafe. His eyes were not on you but on someone farther back. His eyes, not blinking, you became curious. You turned around and found a couple so familiar. They both didn't notice you and Koshi as they made their way to the other edge of the cafe. That was when you faced Koshi. His eyes are still on them, more specifically, to the golden haired girlーlady.
"Sugawara? Are you okay?" His eyes achingly slow to meet yours, blinking harshly. He found his composure a couple of seconds later and cleared his throat, avoiding your eyes. "Yes. I'm sorry. I was justー"
"Do you know Tsukishima Ran, andー"
His gaze fell so harshly on you again, "You know herーI mean, them?"
"Y-yeah. I'm blockmates with that man with her a year ago. I told you I'm an engineering student."
"Oh." And lingering silence. All the excitement you felt flew out of the spring afternoon outside. You're not dumb at what Koshi's showing you right now. His fleeting gazes at the other edge of the cafe and distracted answers that were once not before the couple walked in.
You gulped a hard lump. "Shall we call it a day? I still have papers due tomorrow. I'm sorry."
"I wanna walk you back to your dorm Y/n." Your brows shot up at his sincere tone. His eyes, pleading. "But can we wait for them to leave first? IーI can help with your papers if this favor goes too late."
Pleading not for you. But you have to show him mercy. He's still your crush, and a budding love at that. You can feel he's in a tight spot right now and who are you to deny your help to him.
It was not so long when the couple left the cafe without even noticing Koshi's there and eyeing them.
You stood silently with Koshi and he walked you back to your dorm as he promised, not sparing a talk, or even an explanation. Do you even deserve an explanation? You just got to know the man. But you swore you won't let this chance go by.
"Can I get your number, Sugawara? Daichi might push us for seconds to his delight." You smiled at him, surprisingly genuine given the atmosphere.
He stuttered and got jumpy as he fished out his phone from his pocket. "Can I have yours too?" You knew he saw how your eyes glittered on him as he asked that so his adorable grin was showcased again in front of you.
You bit your lip as you exchanged numbers with him and waved him goodbye.
Koshi was slumped infront of his desk that morning, phone on top of his desk, buzzing and buzzing as the GC kept on with the convo. He closed his eyes and let out a shaky breath, pinching the root of his nose. His classes will start in two hours and he's still not prepared for the day. He can't bring himself to move. That image from yesterday afternoon was still in his mind. He swallowed hard.
A knock, no, slaps on his door were heard moments after. He rolled his eyes knowing who it is. The culprit.
"You look dead." Koshi left the door open for Daichi to enter, Asahi surprisingly following him.
"How was it?" Asahi was the one who asked. The it was probably the blind date happened with you but his mind somehow stuttered.
"She's cool."
They came asking for more questions and he knows it's not what they came for. He sighed as the suspected topic started. He kept drumming his fingers on the armrest of his chair. He smiled through their words of affirmation for the couple, how they were happy.
They're not aware of Koshi's feelings. Of course. He never shown it to anyone. Maybe he did but was too subtle to notice.
The second dateーnot a blind date anymore!ーwas when this event came a month later. It's not a date actually, he said, but he was taking you as his date. You said yes then and there, eyes sparkling and excitement were washing over you. His usual grin was pasted in his face once again. He was thankful you agreed witn the set-up because he doesn't know who to take. And he can't show up alone, not whenーhe closed his eyes to shut his thoughts down.
And he has to try it for you. But he can't be an asshole. Never. Never in a million years. Not to you.
"You're beautiful, Y/n." He was dashing in his two-piece gray and black suit, matching your gray dress.
"You're dashing too, Mr. Sugawara." You took his hand as you stepped out of the car and walked to the venue with him.
"C'mon. You can call me Suga." He grinned at you that made you fell harder, you blushed hard. By now, he might've known you have a crush on him way before the blind date. Daichi has no intentions of leaving that part unknown to Koshi when you shared it with him after the first date.
The reception went on and renowned singers were in the pavillion to sing songs for the newly wedded coupleーthe couple you saw at that fated cafe. The others were already in the center of the reception and slow-dancing to the songs.
You were enjoying your eyes to the familiar faces you've somehow seen in the university or those volleyball league matches you watched in interest of Koshi's you're desperately adapting. You also found some friends from your block that's mutual friends with the groom. And it all happened suddenly. Koshi stood up and offered his hand to you, prompting you to take it with his usual grin you really love.
"Yesss~" Daichi was musing across the table at his friend's gestures. "That's it, Suga! That's it!", and there goes Asahi too.
But your focus is on Koshi, and how he ignored the cheers of his friends from the table and from the nearby one. His eyes were focused on his hand offered to you across the noise all over him. You smiled and took it, to which his eyes fluttered to you apologetically. You grinned at him reassuringly and you let him take you to dance to the next song the singers prepared.
Koshi was nervous. He don't know how to open this up to you, or is it even the right time to do this? He took a shaky breath and grinned as he exhales, basking in your unsuspecting beauty as you both sway to the song. Your eyes were on him, and still grinning. He can't let that grin disappear. But maybe he can. His lashes fluttered fast at the pending words he's about to say.
"Y/n. We might not talk after this but you deserve all my honesty." You waited for him to continue, still staring and swaying. All of the people were blurring around you, auto-focusing on Koshi.
"It's her." And you knew what he meant. Your grin turned to smile as he continues. "I don't want to be in a relationship where it's still her that's all I think about. I have.. to heal first. By myself." There's a sad and conflicted glint in his eyes and you took it to heart, rubbing his shoulder for him to continue.
"I don't want you to wait for me." You stuttered in your sways and steps til you come to a halt. He stopped with you, rubbing miniscule strokes on your waist where his hands are. "You can mingle and date around." You gulped and took it in, deep breaths and you swayed again with the song. He thankfully obliged. The last thing you both want is attention.
"I can't promise anything, but Iーwhen I'm done healing, I'll come look for you again. I wanted for this to work. You came in a bad time for me, y'know. But I don't want to cage you. You have your freedom. I won't.. do that to you. IーY/n, Iー"
"Okay, Suga." You peeked at his lowered head, lifting his chin up with your delicate touch. "Okay." You grinned at him and touched his cheek to which he held it and rubbed his cheek against, glazing eyes on you.
But you never came in the wrong time, it was just right. You both know it. He's just too decent to say it. All that happened in your life and his led to this moment. You never regretted coming to that cafe, never regretted you asked for his number. Never regretted saying yes to him asking if he can take you to the wedding. You never regretted anything. And he's glad to know you won't judge him, that you'll be there waiting even if he doesn't want you to wait. Heartwarming. It already healed a portion of him. A couple more to go.
You both blushed hard at your own realizations and the song clearly mirrored your moment with him, you have to speak to the singer after to know the title so maybe you can download it and listen to it until the time is right. Until Sugawara Koshi's ready for you.

midnight lovers
Tumblr media
pairing: sugawara koushi x fem!reader content warnings: written with chubby reader in mind, reader’s hair is long enough to be tied up (colour, texture, etc. is not mentioned), roommates to lovers, fluff, kissing, some suggestive parts - (light choking), mentions of food, one (1) very mean and aggressive guy, koushi is ready to fight. word count: approx. 3.5k
Tumblr media
these were the nights you loved the most.
a fortuitous meet-up in the kitchen at 11:00pm between two roommates, unsuspecting of what’s to come later in the night.
it was one of those kinds of nights.
neither of you could sleep, though, it didn’t bother you. you just had to find a way to occupy yourselves. feeling quite hungry, you propose going to the super market for a late night snack spree. suga happily agrees. you don’t bother changing out of your pajamas, and neither does he. you, in your oversized shirt and sleeping shorts, and koushi, in a white wife-beater and plaid navy blue pants.
within 5 minutes, you’re in suga’s car, pulling into the dark and empty parking lot. on any other day, this parking lot would be scary, and much too anxiety-inducing to even walk past. but tonight, with suga, it felt so right.
the minute your enter the store, you’re already going separate ways.
“drinks?” suga asks.
“yep. snacks. meet me in the frozen desserts section in five.”
“alright, see ya.”
Tumblr media
four minutes roll buy, and you’ve collected all that you need, so you head over to the frozen aisle a minute early to scout the possible treats to choose from before koushi comes to meet you. eyeing the many different varieties of popsicles, ice cream flavours and cakes, you try and decide what it is that you’re the most in the mood for. usually, you would’ve chosen ice cream in a heartbeat. but tonight didn’t feel like an ice cream kind of night. you sigh and ultimately conclude that you’d have to consult suga when he got to you.
Tumblr media
you stand there for a good 45 seconds before he spots you. your back is turned to him, and he sees you sigh. it’s a cute sight, he thinks. your hair is up, and your shirt’s collar is so stretched out, it falls, resting just below your shoulder. you’re wearing your slippers and fluffy socks, and carrying quite a few boxes. you’re practically cradling the snacks in your arms as though they were your babies. he chuckles lightly and advances towards you, holding out a shopping basket in order for you to place your items inside, along with the drinks he picked out. you sound relieved as you dump everything inside. koushi then takes a look at all that you grabbed and gives you an approving nod.
you turn back towards the freezers,
“it doesn’t feel like an ice cream kind of night...” you voice your thoughts from earlier.
“true... kinda vibing with the popsicles” he responds.
“you read my mind.”
“should we just get the assorted ones?” he asks
you nod and open the door to grab the box, then proceed to make your way to the cash, suga following shortly behind.
the cashier offers you a smile and greets you when you get there. you don’t notice the look he gives suga.
but koushi definitely sees the way the cashier was looking at you.
“late night spree, i’m guessing?” he inquires.
“oh, yes.” you say with a smile as you load the items onto the conveyor belt.
suga stands still, holding the basket out to you as you converse with the man. he stares at him, piercing glare never wavering. the man’s smile may be pretty but, lord if it wasn’t recognizable. sugawara was never one to judge someone by their looks, but he knew the type.
and you. how sweet you are, completely oblivious to the way the cashier is blatantly checking you out. licking his lips, dragging his half-lidded gaze from your face, to your collar-bones and shoulder, to your legs. he’s nodding along to what your saying, but koushi spots the way the man’s eyebrows jump up a bit at the sight of your legs. hell, he hasn’t removed his eyes from them since the minute he first saw them. in fact, he’s so entranced, he doesn’t realize that you’ve finished loading all your items, and that you’re ready to pay. it’s now that you notice his stare. feeling incredibly uncomfortable, you take a cautious step back, and clasp your hands together at your stomach in an attempt to ease your distress.
suga’s always wanted laser vision growing up, but he’s never dreamed of it so badly as he did right now. he fantasizes of many situations, all of which involve very violent acts towards the cashier in question. gods, he wants to knock his teeth out.
but he doesn’t. instead, he lets out,
“excuse you, but i’d like to pay now.” suga says in the coldest tone you’ve ever heard from him.
the guy gets defensive instantly, and looks at koushi in disdain. he has no shame in his response.
“the fuck d’you say to me?”
“you heard me, keep your filthy eyes off of my girl, and let me pay.”
you blush at the way he addresses you, but think nothing more of it, knowing he’s only defending you and putting on an act. if anything, you found it endearing, how he would take it as far as to call you his girlfriend in order to protect you.
the cashier says nothing for a couple seconds, and it essentially turns into a staring match, one daring the other to say something else.
suga wins.
the guy behind the counter looks away, feigning indifference when he says,
“whatever, she’s probably a slut anyways.”
koushi takes a breath, ready to yell, scream, jump over the conveyor belt and strangle the guy, but before he can do anything, a woman who you can only assume is the manager, wearing a bright red button-down vest and laminated name tag, cuts in.
“is everything okay over here?”
you see her side-eye her employee as he responds in a brief and clipped tone,
“fine. we’re fine.” he says
though, all she needs is one look at you to know that everything was not, in fact, fine. she turns to you and suga, sympathy written all over her face,
“i’m so sorry for any inconveniences, it won’t happen again. your items are free of charge.”
before either of you can respond, she’s calling him into her office in stern tone you’d never wish to be on the receiving end of.
Tumblr media
the walk back to the car is silent, and the quiet ensues as you enter. he sits in the driver’s seat with his hands on the wheel, you in the passenger seat with bated breath. you hands twiddle, unsure of what to say. you didn’t want him to be angry.
“i should go back there and punch him.” he breaks the silence.
“no. no, i really don’t think you should.”
“but-”
“it was fucked. i know, but it’s okay. you were there with me. i’m safe.” you try to reassure him.
“he made you upset”
“and it happens. some guys are shit. it sucks, but it’s the way the world works. we’ll contact the managers tomorrow and make sure he gets fired if it makes you feel better? i’ll even put on my best crying voice, just for you. make it real dramatic, he’ll be out of there in no time.” you say.
at this, he lets out a breath that sounds like a chuckle, but it’s short-lived.
“i really want to go back there. fuck, no one should ever speak to you like that. or even look at you like that. you don’t deserve that shit.” he says, exasperated.
“please, let’s just go. c’mon, we’ll go on a drive or something.” you try to sway him.
“okay, you’re right, i’m sorry.”
there’s a pause. though, it only lasts for about ten seconds until he’s up and out of the car, taking the snacks with him and walking towards the back of the store. extremely confused, you’re quick to follow him.
“w-where are you going?” you ask, tripping on your slippers a little as you jog to catch up to him.
“i’m taking you to my favourite spot.” he responds, as he locks the car without stopping or turning around.
“oh, great. woulda been nice of you to tell me the plan before putting it into action, or whatever, but that’s cool.” you say sarcastically.
“doesn’t matter, i knew you’d follow me anyways.”
you don’t say anything back, knowing he’s absolutely, one-hundred percent right.
he leads you to the back of the store, which was very shady, figuratively and literally. there was a single functioning light bolted to the brick wall of the store. you watched as dozens of little mosquitos and moths fluttered and flickered about it, bumping off the cracked plastic panes which enclosed the bulb. he led you a little farther down the alley, past the light and into the darkness. you could barely see him, so you decided to follow the sounds of his footsteps... until they stopped. naturally, you stopped walking too and looked around, though you were met with nothing but more darkness.
“this.... is your favourite spot?” you question cautiously.
he laughs,
“no, yn. give me your hand.”
you struggle to find him in the dark, so he hold his hand out to meet yours.
ever so gently, he wraps his grip around your wrist, and leads your hand to the wall. it lands on something very cold and rusty and metal. he lets you feel around for a couple seconds.
“a ladder.” you say with a smile. of course, you thought to yourself. of course, it’s a ladder.
Tumblr media
he gets up first, and uses his phone’s flashlight (finally) to show you where and where not to step as you follow. it doesn’t take long before you’re up and on the roof. it was glorious. this high up, you could see all the lights. street lights and store lights, lamp-posts and car lights. he walks over to a small hidden box, and opens it up to reveal several fluffy blankets.
“and now, we have all that we need!” he exclaims.
“how’d you even find this place? s’ not very often that you find easy access to the roof of a building like this.” you ask, still admiring the view.
he notices you shiver. the wind was much more apparent up here, so he begins setting up the blankets to form a sort of nest for you guys to sit and hangout as  he tells you how his friend had once dared him to explore the back alley as a joke when they were all hanging out in the parking lot one night. that’s when he found the ladder. he called his friends over to check it out and they dared him 2,500 yen to try and climb it. seeing how rusty it was, they didn’t actually expect him to do it. it looked as though it would crumble under the weight of a feather, but still, he went on with the dare.
the result was a nice hangout spot and a couple extra yen in his pocket.
“do you know if anyone else comes up here?” you ask.
“not that i know of. that ladder may just be enough to shake off anyone attempting to get up here. if it weren’t for the dare, i never would have even attempted to climb something like that! it looked like it would break any second. that’s why, afterwards, i made sure to memorize where to step when climbing it” he explains.
“awe, look at you with your sneaky little spy moves. you could be secret agent, y’know. you’re very agile.”
he chuckles “thanks, but i think i’m good.”
by this point, he’s finished setting up the blankets so you go to join him. he sets out all the snacks, chips, cookies, iced tea, popsicles.
you both sit there, as if you were the only two people in the world. it surely felt like it, snacking, talking, sharing secrets, reminiscing.
Tumblr media
“so, any pretty people worth talking about? you crushin’ on anyone?”
you ask with a giggle and a smile, though, deep inside, you’re desperately praying that he says no. you’ve liked him for far too long, and seen him fawn over far too many people to know that his type isn’t you. but even so, you can’t help but ask every once in a while.
“um, actually, yeah.” he admits slowly. shyly.
you’re quiet for a while. he’s never been apprehensive in admitting his feelings about anyone. especially not to you.
could that mean he really likes this person?
could he love them?
“oh.” is how you respond. you try not to look or sound disappointed, but he knows you all too well. it’s not difficult to figure out that something’s bothering you. not when you go quiet, and certainly not when you look out on the horizon, obviously avoiding his gaze.
he’s watching you. you know it.
from the corner of your eye, you see him staring at you, a slight frown on his forehead as he tries to figure you out.
Tumblr media
koushi knows you can see him.
he also knows that you’re purposefully avoiding his eyes in an attempt to evade the rest of the conversation. hoping that if enough time passes in silence, he’ll let it go and the topic will have been forgotten. but he doesn’t let it go. you’re acting strange, and he’d like to know why.
do you like someone too?
or do you already know that he likes you?
that thought makes his heart stop. could that be why you’re looking away? the last thing he wants to do is make you uncomfortable or ruin your friendship.
do you not feel the same?
he purses his lip, disallowing his bottom lip and chin to quiver and concentrates on the burning in his tear-ducts, willing it to go away.
you finally turn your face back to him after a long while. he’s thankful that it’s dark enough that you can’t see the glassy shine in his eyes.
you speak very quietly when you ask him,
“do you love them?”
his breath is practically taken away. did you really know? was he so obvious?
the air around both of you suddenly feels heavy.
he doesn’t want to be dishonest with you, so instead of giving you a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’ he asks,
“how long have you known?”
“known what?” you question back.
he hates that you’re making him say it out loud, but if this is how your friendship ends, he’d much rather be open and clear about it.
“that i’m in love with you.”
Tumblr media
you’d never seen him so look helpless. he looked like a kicked puppy, and it honestly shattered your heart.
“how long have you known?” he asks.
confused, you question back,
“known what?”
he pauses before answering in the most dejected voice,
“that i’m in love with you.”
surely, you heard that wrong. surely, he couldn’t be talking about you. he must be joking. messing with you, as friends do. you wait for the punchline. you wait for him to say anything, but he doesn’t. it’s then, when you realize that he’s serious. it’s also then when you realize how long you’ve gone without responding to him.
when you finally process it all, you look to him, but he’s no longer sitting cross-legged on the blanket beside you. no, he’s curled in on himself, head ducked into his arms, resting on his knees.
he took your silence for rejection.
“oh, my love. my angel, no, nonono, it’s okay. please, it’s okay.” you rush to his side clumsily, your blanket still wrapped around your shoulders as you caress his curved back before making your way to his front, trying to take his face into your hands.
he keeps his eyes scrunched shut, hard, as he tries to turn his head to keep you from holding it.
his lips turned downwards as he lets out,
“no. don’t wanna ruin what we have. please, don’t wanna hear it. i already know.”
there’s a pause, and he takes a deep breath. with his eyes still closed, he repeats,
“i already know..” he sounds defeated.
“please, koushi. look at me.” you beg gently, stroking his tear-stained cheeks with your thumbs.
he gives in. of course he does. he’d do anything for you.
when his eyes peel open, they’re watery and red. he looks so vulnerable as his lips quiver. fresh tears threaten to fall as he realizes once again that this is probably the end.
“do you mean it?” you ask.
he didn’t think his heart could break further.
he nods without breaking eye contact. he looks from one eye to the other, searching your face for something. anything. he has no idea what you’re thinking, or what to take from this whole mess.
finally, you let out a breath, though it sounds more like a sob. his brows furrow slightly, in hope and confusion. you drop your forehead and rest it against his, palms still cupping his cheeks.
“i’ve loved you for so fucking long, koushi..”
lips quivering and eyebrows furrowed, a breath of relief and disbelief stumbles from his lips. it’s shaky, and he lifts his head to look into your eyes, searching for a lie, for pity. but he sees none of it.
“you have?” he asks, as if he can’t believe it.
you nod, with a small smile, “i really have. and i do. i couldn’t even tell you because...” you trail off, just the idea of it making your chest feel tight.
“because?” he urges you to continue
“i thought you were in love with someone else!” you cry as the tears finally roll down your cheek.
“fuck, baby, im so sorry.” he out breathily.
“no, don’t apologize. you couldn’t have known.”
“i should have been more obvious. or.. fuck, i shoulda just told you. you mean everything to me, baby. i shoulda just told you.”
“it’s okay.” you whisper, kissing his eyelids. you pull back to look into his eyes once more. “you’re my favourite person in the whole world. you make my heart happy and i couldn’t fathom a life without you in it. i’m sorry it took so long for me to tell you. i didn’t want to risk losing you because you’re so so special to me. i never thought that you could want me.”
“i’ve wanted you ever since i’ve known you.” he responds. there’s a silent moment where you’re both just looking into each other's eyes. lips parted, breaths mixing. his eyes dart down to your lips.
“can i kiss you?” he asks in a whisper. you can only nod.
it’s nothing like the movies. his lips don’t rush to yours, and there’s no clashing of teeth.
not yet, at least.
he’s careful in the way his lips approach yours. when they meet, it’s soft, but there’s an unmistakable desperation. he tastes sweet, the remnant juices from the watermelon flavoured popsicle he had earlier still on his lips.
he’s holding back, but still, he’s slow in his movements. his hands snake to your cheeks holding your face firmly. the backs of his fingers then drag down the sides of your neck. his left hand stays at your neck, placing itself there, while the other continues it’s tantalizing path. his other hand moves down your exposed shoulder, down the length of your arm, then back up, just to make it’s way down to your waist. the kiss never falters. not on his part.
he’s wanted this for so long. and you have too, but god, he’s making it hard to stay focused.
you whimper slightly into the kiss, the feeling of his hands on your body so much and not enough all at once.
he can’t help himself. his left hand, the one on your neck, experimentally winds itself around the column of your throat, squeezing ever-so slightly. he’s testing the waters. your breath only stops. not from the little pressure he applies, no, but from how weak you feel. you’ve never seen him like this. and you’ve never felt like this.
he pulls away ever so slightly. he’s stopped kissing you for now, but his lips haven’t travelled too far.
“is this okay?” you’re so close his bottom lip brushes against yours as he asks the question.
“yes. yes, please.” he brings his lips back to yours. he’s not holding back so much this time, using his grip on your neck to pull you closer. to deepen the kiss.
“you’re so perfect.” he whispers into your mouth. you can only tangle your hands into his hair.
you stay like that for a while, whispering to each other, kissing each other. proclaiming your love for each other and making up for all the time lost. for the years you spent pretending to be friends. roomates. best friends, when you were truly so much more than that. you were soulmates.
midnight lovers.

~ Synopsis: "God how I wish what you say is true, but how do I believe you when you are drunk?"
A/n: I am the bartender by the way :/ It's because of me yall are together. You are welcome *cries in single*
Tumblr media
𝟷𝟷 : 𝟷𝟷
Why does a human's heart torment them so? Why do you need a purge to eliminate your unwieldy emotions that blossom out of nowhere?
"You should call someone to pick you up," the bartender scrunched his brows, "it's really late and you've drunk too much."
You pout and fidget in your purse to find your phone, pausing when you remember the actual reason for your state.
Would you much rather be passed out on the cold road than call your co-worker to pick you up? The co-worker for who you had a tsunami of feelings hidden?
You take a deep breath and press the 'call' button.
He picks up after 4 rings. His voice all syrupy and raspy that sends a swarm of butterflies in your belly.
"Hello?"
"You sound shoo hot," you giggle bashfully, swinging your legs as the bartender tries not to snort.
"Y/N are you drunk?" he clears his throat in embarrassment and asks.
"Only a littol bit," you say and he can almost hear the pout in your voice. Quite adorable in all honesty.
A quick shuffling of cloth is heard from the other side, accompanied by the clanking of keys, "where are you right now?"
You hazily look at the bartender and speak, "I am with an old, weird-looking man right now, it's dark here."
The bartender's eyes widen at how wrongly your words could be interpreted.
Suga's movements halt by your words, the heart suddenly beating faster in concern, "Y/N are you okay? What's going on?"
The agitated bartender snatches the phone from your hand despite your protests. The 'no' and 'give it back' made Suga even more anxious than before.
"Hello, kind sir..uh...I am a bartender at 'Heaven's delight bar' and I think your significant other is not in their right mind," he side-eyed you, "for now at least. Please pick them up as soon as possible, I'll message you the location through this number only."
Suga sighs in relief completely ignoring the fact that he called you his 's/o', "Thank you, I'll be there in a few minutes, please take care of them till then."
The grip he had on the steering wheel was chummy, palms so sweaty that the leather of the wheel was coated with precipitation.
He shut the car door like it was a mere piece of plastic, walking into the bar with quick strides. The smell of booze, alcohol and sweat made him dizzy. His eyes crinkling in relief once he noticed you.
The bartender visibly relaxed as he saw him walking towards you.
"Are you their s/o?" he asked.
A visible blush crept onto his face, "Not yet...I mean no!"
He sighed and pointed at you, “take them home, young man.”
Suga fidgeted with his wallet before he was stopped, “they have already payed.”
Koushi bowed in respect, “thank you for taking care of them sir.”
He tapped you gently, “L/N, let’s go.”
You slowly opened your eyes, squinting to adjust to the lighting, “Suga~” you stretched his name, “you look like a snack right now.”
His eyes widened at how…forward you got while drunk, before you uttered any other nonsense, he had you lifted up through you arms.
“There you go,” he said a little strained, “just lean on me.”
You squealed in delight as you leaned. His heart thumped due to the close proximity between the two of you.
“Is it the alcohol or are your eyes always this pretty,” you laughed.
"Its the alchohol," he said, "my eyes are really boring."
With great care he had you sit in the car somehow. Your head lolled towards his side, yet the silly grin that adorned your face shined brighter than any satellite in the dim night sky.
He was petrified like a stone, looking at your face as if you would dissipate if he blinked. You had absolutely no idea of the mark you had on him, he had spent the last few months yearning for you like some parched man seeking chaste pleasures.
"Koushi," you pulled him by his collar, and a small squeak of surprise left his mouth. His hand was planted on the car wall beside you, preventing him to topple over your intoxicated self.
He cleared his throat and moved away, tucked you in with theseatbelt and drove towards your house. The first few minutes of the ride were silent, he didn't say anything but soon his nerves got the best of him and he made a stop.
"So this is why you have been smelling of booze," he questioned,""You know alcohol won't solve your problems""
You chuckled almost soberly and looked at him, "indeed. Its because I cannot handles the problems I am facing now while being sober."
His brows scrunched into one straight line, "what do you mean."
"God, can't you just leave me alone!? This is my burden to carry, not yours!" you shouted angrily.
"Do you expect me to just leave you alone in- in this state? Itt kills me to see you like this!" he shouted back.
"So I've killed you huh?" you joked, "makes sense why you cant *hic* see me."
You grit your teeth and muttered silently, or so the alcohol made you think, "you are the problem."
"What?" he tilted his head in confusion.
You let out a sound that was a mix between a groan and a giggle. You unbuckled your seatbelt and leaned to catch his lips in yours.
Suga was petrified like a stone. While you were snogging his face, it took all the human effort to pull you down and caress you like he dreamt of.
Wrong
Wrong
Wrong
This was so wrong.
He broke from the kiss and looked down, at his jaw. clenched and voice angry, "this wasn't supposed to happen, this wrong, you are drunk-"
His blabbering was cut off by your soft sobs, "'M sorry Kou. I-didn't. Oh god I love you-I am sorry."
Without thinking his arms quickly enveloped you, "Calm down, okay?"
You nodded softly on the crook of his neck. He sighed as he played with your hair, "I can't believe I am about to ask this to a drunk person even though your answer might change if you are sober. But if I don't get a yes now I will never be able to muster the courage."
His voice broke as he spoke, the intense splurge of emotions watering down, "God I have no idea what I am even doing, I am so pathetic."
You pulled away from the hug and cupped his face, "Koushi whether I am drunk or not, my answer stays the same."
"The reason I have been getting drunk is that I crave and think of you so much and we are not even together, it hurts me."
Suga removed your hand from his face and kissed your wrist right above the veins, "I am yours."

you softly sighed at the feel of your boyfriend's hands caressing your skin, goosebumps rising up and down your entire body.
"mmhm," you hummed, cheeks tingling when he leaned down to press a soft kiss against your jaw. you love the moments like these, the soft moments where it's just the two of you, doing nothing in particular except be in each other's embrace.
"feel good, baby?" he mumbled against your skin, his hips grinding softly into yours at such an angle it had you moaning, his tip pressing so deliciously against your sweet spot. "kou.. feels good.." you mewled, one of your hands finding purchase on the back of his hair, intertwining your fingers with his gray soft locks.
"yeah?" he purred, his lips pressing wet open mouthed kisses against your neck, occasionally suckling on and leaving red angry marks on the sensitive skin. "y'know i love you right?" he said, his hand coming up to squeeze at your breast.
"love you too kou," you moaned out, your hips grinding against his rhythmically, throwing your head back when his tip became flush with the opening of your cervix. "just love you, only you." he groaned, his other free hand sliding down the skin of your abdomen, going further until his finger-pads were pressing against your throbbing clit.
his words tightened the knot within your stomach, feeling nothing but bliss because of his induced pleasure on you. he was attacking every single one of your soft spots, it made it impossible for you to focus on one thing for long before he had your eyes rolling back to your skull.
"you're my everything, i love you so much," he muttered out, his soft grinding soon turning into something more fast and intense, his cock throbbing inside of your tight cunt. his lips detached from your neck, his hand releasing your breast to tilt your head to the side, his lips pressing against yours.
it felt like magic, the room turning much into a hotbox, the two of you practically shared the same air as you gasped into each other's mouths, tongues dancing slowly with one another. "kou, i'm gonna cum," you whined against his lips, tilting your head away from his when shyness took over you, a stray pleasurable tear running down your cheek.
he chucked lightly against your cheek, his hand wiping away your fat tear, "you're so cute, i love you so much."
with another roll of his hips against yours, you came, eyes clenching shut as your senses were overwhelmed by nothing but deep pleasure and bliss. his hips stuttered against yours as your cunt had a vice grip on his cock, throwing his head into your neck as he spilled his load into the condom.
the two of you laid in your post-orgasmic bliss, his cock still sheathed in your sensitive core. his face remained in the crook of your neck, his lips still pecking lightly against the skin there. "'m, i love you."

You sniffed as you stirred, pulling the soft fabric underneath your cheek further into you. It smelt like sandalwood with a hint of coffee and you were instantly reminded of Daichi. The man’s coffee addiction had become serious during his final year. You supposed yours would too, if you were in charge of Hinata. His scent was a big reason why you enjoyed stealing Daichi’s clothes so much. Gripping the fabric in your fingers, the underneath was oddly warm. The further you returned to your sleepy state, the less you found yourself caring about the odd warmth of your cushion, or the slow rise and fall of it under your head.
“Still sleepy, huh?”
Jolting, you snapped your eyes open. A strong heat flooded under the skin of your cheeks, you shot up. An action that brought the blanket that was covering you tumbling down your form, settling at your waist and exposing not only your body, but Daichi’s. You had heard several times from his partners that the man likes forgoing shirts when he sleeps, but observing it was a whole other story. Usually, when you stayed around, he was up and dressed before any of you and you never saw him without a shirt. It soon became clear why this was a good thing. The man was laying in the bed, under where you just laid, dressed in nothing but pajama pants and an unzipped hoodie. Honey coloured skin peaked out from the gap between the zipper, a toned and yet perfectly soft stomach just begging for you to reach out and run your fingers down it.
Shuffling from the other side of the bed alerted you to the other two presences in the room. Asahi was sitting against the headboard, the other side of where you had evidently slept last night. His curly hair was piled on top of his head and he had those damn reading glasses on, the ones that made him look just as intelligent as you knew he was. He smiled closed mouthed, obviously bemused at your shock, and waved with the hand that was currently holding his book. Sugawara was curled under his arm, on the far side of the bed - still snoring, of course. Koushi was the sleepiest of all three of you. Hyper, undeniably, but once he was asleep, he was down for the count.
Asahi slid a hand onto the thigh that was closest to him. His hands were large and calloused against the soft skin of your exposed thigh. Why you decided to pack shorts was a mystery to you. Especially now as you flexed the muscles, trying desperately to not squirm and pay attention to what he was about to say.
“We were gonna grab some breakfast” he explained, in an unfairly attractive morning voice,
“We passed a diner last night, probably swinging back ‘round to that”
“Once sleeping beauty wakes up, that is”
You smiled, biting your lip in an attempt not to laugh. The three of you would have an easier time herding cats. Asahi’s hand slipped off of your thigh. You tried to suppress the shiver that ran up your spine and desperately ignored the way you missed his touch as soon as it left. Getting breakfast together was a routine you were all well versed in. You had all spent the majority of weekends before your exams meeting in a small cafe near your homes to get waffles together. Simpler times, you guessed. You knew each others orders like the back of your hands, and you always got fed portions of their individual orders no matter how many times you went. The contrast between each order was evident and matched perfectly with each of them.
“I’m up for waffles”
---
The diner was relatively busy when you got there. Of course, with Daichi’s team dad skills and Asahi’s somewhat intimidating stature, you had managed to secure a booth just fine. As tradition went, it was you and Asahi on one side, Daichi and Koushi on the other. Asahi trapped you against the wall with his broad shoulders, but you liked the security of it and this is something the others had very clearly noticed. You were almost 100% certain that the seating was done this way so you and Asahi wouldn’t comment on the obnoxious amount of chocolate and cream the other two piled onto their waffles.
Conversation flowed easily. You were too sleepy to even entertain the thought of your wallowing that morning, much rather preferring the simple reminiscing and idle chatter the boys filled the silence with. At one point you had said something that made Daichi laugh so hard that he had snorted his milkshake out of his nose. There was some hope that they didn’t notice the way you preened like a cat at getting the usually stoic man to laugh that hard. It was a beautiful noise, but his true laugh was rare. The dad-like chortle making way for wheezing towards the end of his laughing fits was enough to get even the most stone-faced of people to crack a smile.
You handed him a wad of napkins. He took them with both hands, lifting one to wipe his face and keeping the other firmly grasping yours. Your breath hitched.
Eventually, after the fifth time of Daichi wiping the wrong spot, Koushi grasped a few more napkins from your hands and wiped the remaining chocolate off of Daichi’s face. You held out another napkin for the silver-haired man's fingers, being met by his signature dazzling smile.
“What would we do without you, huh gorgeous?”
The bliss was interrupted by all of their phones pinging a notification simultaneously. Suga read the text and visibly grimaced. In an effort to protect yourself from the hurt, you cast your gaze towards the table. It was very obviously a group chat you were not on. The little bubble of joy you had experienced just moments prior popped sharply and it was if the room had dimmed under the morning sun. That was fine, they were allowed to be in chats without you, it wasn’t a big deal, it might not be their new addition, right? You repeated the question in your head like a mantra to calm yourself as you tapped on Asahi to let you out.
“I’m gonna order another drink” you mumbled, smiling brightly at the boys.
The last couple of seconds replayed in your head over and over, even while stammering out your drink order. It was slightly easier to hide your scorned feelings when you weren’t facing the cause. Your back was aimed towards the table of boys, even as you reached the coffee station and made a grab at a few paper packets of sugar.
The paper was flimsy in your hands, not aiding the clumsiness that was already plaguing you. The coffee was intended for Suga and the man liked his coffee in a very particular way. You counted out exactly two packets of white sugar, and one packet of brown sugar. E preferred the wooden stirrers, even when spoons were available, said they reached the sugar in the bottom of the cup easier. Of course, this was most likely complete nonsense but you couldn’t help but entertain the thought as you took yourself through the motions. You smiled gently at the routine and just how absurd it would look to anyone else. How were you supposed to explain the oddity that was Sugawara Koushi and his fantastical coffee routine?
A hand settled next to you on the coffee counter.
“That’s a lot of sugar for someone already so sweet looking”
Turning, you came face to face with a man a little bit taller than you, he had dark hair and a decently attractive smile. He was cute, sure. But he wasn’t quite as tall as Asahi, he didn’t have Daichi’s warm smell and his flirting was kind of wooden to anyone who was familiar with Koushi’s cheekier flirting. In your peripherals, you could see the inquisitive glances from your friends and you really couldn’t help yourself after that. Was it kind to lead someone on? Maybe not but you were tired of morality and interested to see how this would play out.
Giggling, you looked up at him through your lashes. Screw it, if you couldn’t have who you wanted, you were at least gonna have fun.
“Maybe I like sweet things, don’t judge” you mused, taking the wooden stirrer between your teeth.
The man leaned his other arm on the coffee counter, effectively trapping you against the cart. It was a move you assumed was meant to come across as sexy. However it just made you feel like you were a caged animal, cornered and ready to claw your way out of the situation. His hand retracted, holding more napkins than any one man could possibly need. The dark haired man shot you a wink and you forced out a smile in return, shooting a glance at your now empty table. The brilliant smile of the man in front of you began to fade, causing you to snap your head towards him.
“I’m so sorry, what was that?” you questioned politely, putting the clueless act on once again.
A throat was cleared next to you. There was really no denying how intimidating the boys were when they wanted to be. Daichi’s arms bulged from where they were crossed over his chest. It was a display that would usually make your mouth water, but only proved to further fuel your anxiety in the given moment. They weren’t scary to you of course, but the sharp glare Suga was sending the man as well as Asahi’s unimpressed look caused a flush of anxiety to run through you.
“What do you think you’re doing?” Suga hissed at the poor man, who was now looking about ready to run.
“Sorry” the man stuttered, “I didn’t realise they were taken, know when i'm not welcome”
He put his hands up in a mock surrender and turned to leave.
“Wait, no i’m not-” you started, but he was gone.
They had, not for the first time, rendered you speechless. Embarrassment curled in your gut, bubbling up into something more volatile when you saw the satisfied looks they sported, eyes following the man back to his table. Disbelief didn’t even begin to cover the cocktail of emotions that were currently mixing within you.
If you didn’t leave, you were going to lose your temper very quickly. Chest heaving, you recentred yourself and spun on your heel, pulling your wallet out.
The lady behind the counter looked only mildly intrigued at the odd display that had just occurred in front of her. She curled a perfectly manicured eyebrow at you as if to ask if you needed a hand. It filled you with a certain sense of irony, that this random woman was more concerned as to your feelings at that moment than your actual friends, who had known you for years. You stuttered out an apology and slammed some cash on the counter, probably harder than intended. Then you promptly turned and marched out of the diner.
The mad scramble behind you was ignored in your attempt to walk to the car without bursting into tears, punching something, or both. You heard the protests in the background but they were muffled by the buzzing of rage in your ears. Fists curling and uncurling, you tried to think back to the last time you had gotten this angry. You had been plenty angry in the past, school was a difficult time for everyone, but the three men you had left in the diner were usually the first ones to calm you down. This was one of the only times they were the cause of your wrath. Most likely, they would also be on the receiving end of said wrath soon enough.
Kicking the dust of the car park, you watched as stones and dirt scattered away from you. You wanted to scream, hit things, throw yourself in the dirt and cry - anything that would take some pressure off of the crushing weight in your torso. The flame twisted and gnashed at your insides, growling and clawing its way up your oesophagus until it released itself in a small scream of frustration. Would things ever be simple for you?
Telepathy had never been a skill you particularly craved until that moment. There was no way of understanding what those three idiots were thinking. Even if you did know, you were doubtful it would soothe your frustration. You threw yourself on the ground behind the trunk of the car, yanking your phone out of the pocket of your jeans.
“Kiyoko” you seethed down the phone, “will you please come and pick me up”
She gave you the affirmative and set the loose time limit to her arrival. No doubt Yachi would be with her. You weren’t sure whether you would be able to deal with their romance in your face at that moment, but anything was better than being stuck in a car with Asahi, Daichi and Sugawara.
Jangling alerted you to the three men in question. They had obviously paid and were frantically looking around the cars to locate you. With any luck a sinkhole would open in the earth and swallow you whole before they spotted you.
Luck was never your thing.
The sky had opened up once again. It was almost beginning to grate on your nerves how much it had been raining this trip. The irony had been entertaining in the beginning, bordering on humorous how cliche it was. Now the weather you usually took so much pleasure in indulging in was maddening. You wanted to be angry with them for once, yell even. But the rain was washing your frustration away, leaving an empty feeling. A feeling that made you want to give up.
Your prayers went unanswered, the three men walking up to you in due time.
“What was that?” you questioned, voice resigned.
“What do you mean? He was flirting with you”
The sound of genuine confusion in Asahi’s voice made your food feel like it was curdling inside of you. You breathed out in disbelief, brows knitting together tightly.
“And just what does that have to do with any of you?”
None of them replied, taken back by your outburst. You stood abruptly and continued.
“You’re all dating! You literally have two boyfriends and I know you’re talking to another person. So really” you paused, “why the fuck does it matter if i don’t want to be alone anymore? Do I not deserve to be wanted? You evidently don’t want me”
Your voice cracked towards the end of your rant. Three pairs of eyes stared at you in disbelief. The hints of hurt mixed into all three was evident, but you felt like a bottle that had been shaken and the lid was off. You erupted once again.  there was nothing more that you wanted than to be loved on purpose. it was inexplicably unfair that even unconnected attempts at finding a relationship had to be ruined by the three men in front of you.
“God it hurts, can you not see that? It hurts so bad. You won’t ever understand how much it pains me to be around you and see just how happy this new person is going to make you, knowing that’s not me? That hurts” you spat the last sentences, vitriol coating your words.
The storming sea inside you had calmed somewhat, leaving you to assess the damage your words had done. It wasn’t the most ideal way to confess your feelings but the weight that was lifted off your shoulders felt tremendous. The pain you were feeling was paralysing, stopping you from running like you desperately wanted to. It knocked the wind out of you, reducing your last statement to a pathetic whisper.
“I get you don’t want me around, but other people will. It’s not okay to take that away from me”
As if some God had heard your plea, Kiyoko’s tiny blue car sped into the car park just as you broke down crying. The womans tiny blonde girlfriend sped out of the car, catching you before your knees could meet the wet sand beneath you. Yachi cooed at you softly, placing her entire body in front of you as if to form a shield between you and the cause of your heart ache. Her eyebrows furrowed in concern, eyes filling with sympathy at your curled up figure.
It was truly humiliating.
Kiyoki motioned for her to pull you into the car, stepping out of the driver's side herself and towards you. The dainty hands of the younger girl were soft and comforting, her rose scent filled your stuffy nose while she led your stumbling form to the welcome shelter of her girlfriend's car. The difference in posture between the two of you was like night and day. You were hunched over, protecting yourself from outside view. Your wounds were gaping, horrible open pits with your rawest emotions in the middle for everyone to gaze at and laugh. She wrapped a soft blanket around you, bandaging you up and keeping you safe in the backseat of the car.
There were muffled voices from the outside of the car, but the sound of the heater being cranked full blast muffled them. There was a lot of angry words, not quite yelling but scolding certainly. You whimpered at the noise, not being able to distinguish who it was. You were certain they would never want to see you again, let alone speak to you, after your outburst. If only there was a way to scoop all of your words off of the floor and shove them back down into your mouth. Daichi, Asahi and Sugawara had never been in love with you, you could deal with that fact. Them cutting ties completely would surely kill you.
A polaroid of Yachi and Kiyoko, perched on a wall and smiling at each other, was stuck to the centre of the car, directly above the stereo. It hung there, mocking you. You stared and tried not to think about how you would never be able to achieve that, not where it counted. In the end, it was easier to avert your gaze than confront what you couldn’t have.
Fuming, Kiyoko wrenched the door open and threw herself into the driver's seat. It was a miracle she managed to make even that look graceful. Her face was unnaturally contorted by an anger that was uncommon for her. It marred her beautiful features viciously. In staring at her, you caught sight of yourself in the mirror. It was a distressing look to say the least. Your hair was messy from your own grip and the bags under your eyes had only gotten worse. What little effort you had put into your looks this morning had all gone to waste, either washes away or dampened under the rain.
Yachi stroked her hand over your shoulder and climbed into the passenger's seat.
Staring out of the back window as the car pulled away, you caught sight of the three you had left behind. Koushi was patting Azumane’s back from where he crouched on the ground, dragging large hands across his face. Daichi was beside them, head buried in his arms on top of the car. You blinked. They had no right to be upset, you thought. You tried to block it all from your mind as their figures turned into tiny dots in the distance. All the years of friendship, the lives you had built together and the dreams you had created - they were buried in the dust where you left them.

TW: Mention of Death
Rainy Days
"The rain was always your favorite. You always loved listening to it patter against the rooftops. Remember when we would sit out on the porch and just listen to the rain. You loved the smell of the rain, too. You opened all the windows in the house, and it would always smell like fresh air and clean laundry," Sugawara said, stroking your cheek.
He smiled as he looked down at you. You were always beautiful but right now you looked like an angel. Especially in the white dress you were wearing.. Never in his life had he met someone so perfect, there can't be someone so perfect. Until you came into his life.
"I remember that first day I met you. It was our third year and you transferred to Karasuno and when you walked into my class you knocked me off my feet. The more I got to know you the more I fell. I was so nervous every time we studied together because my heart was pounding. I thought you could hear it."
He lifted your left hand so he could brush his thumb over your fingers and the engagement ring that adorned your finger.
"When I asked you to marry me it was at nationals when we won. You were waiting to congratulate us on the win and I couldn't stop myself from dropping down on one knee and asking. Everyone was surprised because we only dated for a short while but like I said. You were my one and only."
He felt hot tears spring to his eyes as he desperately tried to blink them away.
"Suga. It's time," Daichi reported, clapping a hand on his back.
"Looks like it's time for you to shine Angel," Sugawara said, his voice breaking.
Sugawara left the room you were in to take his seat in the front row in between Daichi and Asahi. Asahi gave him a comforting squeeze on his shoulder. He felt others hands on his shoulders in support. When the doors opened everyone stood up and turned to look at his beautiful girl.
He felt like his heart was being ripped out of his chest as he saw you come down the aisle. He didn't pay much attention to what the priest was saying, he couldn't focus on anything except for his beloved.
It wasn't often Suga felt overwhelmed but he needed to take a break. He exited out of the room and outside to feel the cold air from the rain hit his skin. He walked to the edge of the railing and reached out his hand to let the droplets of rain fall into his hand.
"When I imagined you coming down the aisle, I didn't imagine you in a casket," Sugawara cried softly. He feels like this is one giant nightmare and that at any moment he will wake up to find you curled up into his side.
He remembers when he lost you. You and him were coming back from a date. you both had been busy at your jobs and wanted a nice evening together. Walking back to the apartment, you wanted to take an evening stroll through the park. Suga wasn't going to deny your request. You were enjoying each other's company when you both overheard an argument, and then shots rang out. Suga tried to shield you but ended up getting shot anyway. He tried his hardest to save you, but...
"Come on, Angel. Don't do this to me. Fight to stay alive, baby, please," Sugawara pleaded as he used his coat to try and stop the bleeding.
"Koushi. I'm not going to make it. Even if you can get me to a hospital it's slim chance to none I won't be able to pull through," you said softly.
"No, don't talk like that. That's negative talk. You just need to hold out a little longer."
You smiled up at him, reaching out to touch his cheek, "I know it is but it's the truth. And the truth always hurts. I don't feel pain anymore and I feel cold. Both are bad signs."
He held your hand that cradled his cheek and stroked your head with the other. He knew you weren't going to survive this. You were bleeding out too fast.
"I love you, my Angel," he said as he kissed your palm.
"I love you too, Koushi. Forever and always." He felt you go limp and he wailed out in agony as he just lost the love of his life.
He cried for days on end. He couldn't sleep and on nights he did get some shut eye he slept on the couch. Why would he sleep in a bed if you weren't there with him? He didn't eat very much and took very little care of himself.
When the team heard the news they were quick to move. Daichi and Asahi moved into his home to take care of him while everyone else took care of the funeral plans, only bothering Suga for his input on colors and style choices.
Everyone asked for time off from their jobs to be in support of their former teammate. Suga always supported everyone else and now it was time for them to return the favor.
Sugawara looked up towards the sky and saw the clouds part to let sunshine through. He saw a rainbow cast across the sky. He chuckled to himself and shook his head. He turned to walk back inside to join his friends.
A few hours later and everyone had left. Now just stood Suga with you in an empty room. He walked towards your casket and silently prayed before standing to look at you again.
"You were right about the rain. I never knew why you liked it so much. You always talked about going overseas to a state where it rained ninety percent of the time. Now I think I understand. 'You can't have a rainbow without a little rain.' Even though you're gone you still manage to make me feel better. I miss you everyday. I wish I could hold you one last time. I will always love you, Angel. Forever and always."
Suga leaned down and pressed his lips against your forehead. He put his forehead to yours and let out a breath. He knew things wouldn't go back to normal, and it was going to be rough without you, but this too shall pass, and he knows that if he keeps you in his heart, he can make it through.

•Oo Love~ Ooh loverboy~
•An angel I will say. He is so sweet. Even before you both started dating.
•As friends he is like your wingman for everything. Supportive and cheerful, and he also would constanly give you advice on what's right or if you're doing something's wrong. Even if most of it not really helping
•He tease you alot.
•I feel like, he will be the one who confess first. He knows the chance for you to actually return his feelings is low but deep down he lowkey is still hoping, And plus until when is he gonna keep it hidden? He's in third year already.
•People have told him that he shouldn't turn friendship into relationship because he might lose both, and that does bring his hope down because he doesn't want his feelings to be the cause of your friendship being destroy.
•But Daichi shut those goons up and told suga "I can't promise that they will return your feelings, but there's nothing wrong in trying, and im sure N/N wouldn't do that. So get your head out of your gutter!"
•He tends to joke around alot, and yet sometimes he seems serious. But you know what they said. "The one who smiles alot, have the most scars" [Listen ik he dont have depressing bg story or whtever but shut up ok? ]
•Sugawara keeps alot to himself. Though, do you ever wonder? Suga always seems to care for everyone, wanting what's best for them, helping them, and he always seems fine but.. Is he? He was there to ask "Are you okay..? Do you need anything" but who is the person who will comfort him? Someone who would return the favor.?
•The pressure as the vice captain, the matches, practices, and his feelings..
•As times goes by everything build up, Ever since they're first year, trying their hardest to build the school name again. To make the volleyball team shine once more. The pressure added up.
.
•He almost cry when you said you share the same feelings as him. Wait no- He is crying-
•During that moment he felt a little relief, as if some weight have been lifted up.
"I-Im sorry- I can't help my self" He stuttered through his words as more tears drip down his face.
•You pull him into a hug and try to comfort him as he slowly relax in your embrace-
"NICE SUGA-SANN!!"
"S-Shut up Noya! He will see us-"
•Looking at the bushes, you both saw the 3rd and second years. Tanaka is on the verge of tears and its not because he's happy for suga but-
"THIS IS NOT FAIR SUGA-SAN!!"

ABSTRACTIONS
Hurt/Comfort, self doubts, second thoughts, a pinch of angst.
Ft. Kita Shinsuke, Akaashi Keiji, Sugawara Koushi, Iwaizumi Hajime, Kozume Kenma.
Tendou's part
Lacuna: Kita Shinsuke
"What's with you and Kita? Are you guys dating?"
"He seems different when he's with you. You guys definitely have something going on."
You ran a hand along your face and sighed, these words echoing in your mind with a loud ring. You and Kita had weathered only a season or two under the umbrella of familiarity and everyone around you was already intent upon blowing it away. You were angry at their intrusion but at the same time, you were afraid that it would make things strange and awkward between the two of you. You called him a friend but there were certain things that eluded and even mocked that description. And you didn't want such silly whisperings to tarnish an attachment that had become so dear.
"Avoiding me won't fix anything."
Startled at the abrupt interruption of your thoughts, you cast a rather incredulous look at the figure standing directly behind you.
"Why did you scare me like that?!" you accused, ignoring his question.
"My apologies," Kita returned, quietly moving to come and sit beside you.
When you avoided his eyes and refused a reply even after a considerable silence, he spoke, "I know you're affected by everyone talking about us."
You swallowed, a strange uneasiness beginning to rise in the pit of your stomach. This was the moment you had been dreading, the moment where you had to see for yourself where you stood with him. You couldn't hide behind ambiguity anymore and you were absolutely terrified.
He waited for a response but when he got none, he added without betraying the least emotion, "If you ask me, I find this need to name and confine everything within words a little ridiculous."
You blinked at him, not quite getting his purport.
He went on, "I've heard people say all sorts of things about us — friends, lovers, bodies that warm each other. But none of that really matters. The bond that we have Y/N, is too profound and precious to ever be understood by others or conveyed by words. What need have we of getting caught in the terminology of the world when we have something so beautiful? Let them talk; we'll be what we are."
Donning the softest of smiles, he reached for your hand and warmly pressed it, saying, "We'll be alright. After all, we have each other, don't we?"
Kita was glad to see a rosy smile blossom on your lips, the transition from your frozen and anxious state of only moments ago bringing him great relief. And he couldn't keep himself from placing a lingering kiss on top of your head, perhaps with all the love that he felt, that was brimming from his joyful heart.
And as you felt his warm affection engulf you with that meaningful kiss, you knew how baseless your anxieties had been. You didn't need to justify your relationship to anybody; the feeling in your respective hearts was enough.
Life-in-Death: Akaashi Keiji
"Are you okay Y/N?"
You withdrew your wistful gaze from the withering roses clustered beneath the grey walls and looked at him.
A half-hearted smile crossed your lips as you replied, "Y-yeah. I'm fine."
"Y/N," he reached for your hand, clasping it in his own, "you don't have to lie to me. I know something is bothering you."
You bit your lip, uncertainty momentarily clouding your mind. But then you felt a warm press of his hand on your own, a reassuring smile following this little but intimate gesture. Yours that came after was touched with a subtle but moving sentiment, having discerned the concern and worry swirling in his irids.
"It's just a silly thought Keiji," you mused, shaking your head dismissively.
"If you're willing to talk about it, I'm here," he voiced his assurance this time, gliding his thumb over your hand.
"It's just... " you trailed off, your eyes finding the roses again. "I've just been thinking you know... about the inevitable decay of life. Everything will terminate in death and nothing we do will ever guard us against it. You and I, we're all going to turn to dust someday, never to walk hand in hand in the dusk, never to dance in the rain, never to exist and love each other. Everything that we've been through seems like for nought; this ultimate end overwhelms with its tragic sensibility and I feel helpless."
You shut your eyes in consternation, a hollow breath issuing from your lips. But a touch of loving tenderness lighted on your chin to disperse the stormy clouds, making you look up at those eyes that always held sweet affection for you.
"I know it's tragic that death swallows all but do you not think life becomes all the more beautiful because of it? Transience reminds us to love and live all the more, to cherish life as we have it. And look at it this way - we only die because we have lived, because we were fortunate enough to have existed against an infinite number of odds. Death is an end rendered possible only by the existence of life itself and I do not see any absurdity in the moments we have shared and will continue to share. After all, I got the chance to be with you and I am nothing but grateful. And I would die a thousand deaths if it meant to have you, even for the briefest spell."
Silent awe and love was all that you felt as Akaashi proceeded to engulf you in his arms, placing soft kisses to your temple.
You nestled more closely against him while a smile of soft poignancy ghosted over your lips.
It was impossible to altogether forget the fear that assailed you but it was reassuring nonetheless; Akaashi was with you and you would savour life with him while it lasted. And perhaps you would find him again after the end, to share and behold new horizons, with new feelings of love and wonder.
A Beautiful Present: Sugawara Koushi
"What's up with you today Y/N? You've been awfully quiet."
You stopped mindlessly swinging your hand laced with Sugawara's and turned, only to meet his eyes worriedly peering at you.
You quickly looked away and shook your head, saying, "It's nothing really. I was just lost in thought."
He pouted. "You don't have to talk if you don't want to Y/N but you shouldn't blatantly lie like that."
"I'm sorry," you breathed, closing your eyes.
Suddenly, you felt a warm touch cradling your cheek and making you look up to meet irids of gentle solicitude. "There's no need for you to say that. And you do know that you can tell me anything right?"
There was something heartwarming and candid in this statement that you immediately resigned all resistance.
Clasping his hand that caressed your cheek, you said, "I don't really know how to express myself but I... I care about you very much. Since the day I chose to intertwine my route with yours, I have been exhilarated with wonder and happiness. But I am also constantly afraid of what comes next, of the possibility of coming to a standstill. What if we decide to follow different paths and lose everything that we shared and hoped for? What if, we cease to care?"
The last part was spoken barely above a whisper, your words almost conquered in voicing the recurring nightmare.
A moment of silence followed your rather tremulous outpouring before it was interrupted by a breezy laugh. You sent Suga a weak glare, more hurt than annoyed by his reaction.
"You are so funny Y/N!" he flicked your forehead, countering your expression with a seriousness that you had never seen before.
Putting his hands on your shoulders and staring straight into your eyes, he stated, "I know where you're coming from Y/N but hear me out. Precisely because the future is uncertain, the present is all that we need. I have never felt like this for anyone before and that's why I'm not going to give up. What happens in the next moment is beyond us so we have to make the best use of the now. As long as we have the present, we will have a chance in the future. And besides, don't think that I will let you go so easily, that I won't hold on to you with the entirety of my being."
You could not suppress the delight that burst within you, manifesting itself in your colourful and dewy laughter.
You could not see the future because it was seemingly surrounded by incomprehensible darkness and dread. But since you would always have the present, you could work to strike a light and behold its true being.
Sugawara carefully enfolded you, feeling his own heart smile in seeing you thus. And you held on to him with a steadfast feeling, now knowing that this moment was all you needed to behold.
Eidolon: Iwaizumi Hajime
"Oi Y/N, snap out of it!"
You started as Iwaizumi's voice suddenly interrupted your inner spiral of thought, your feet halting as you mechanically turned to him.
Iwa raised a brow in consternation as he contemplated your dazed expression, your lustreless eyes practically unseeing his searching ones.
"I've been talking to you and you neither hear nor perceive."
When you only managed to proffer a forced smile, Iwaizumi put a firm and protective hold on your shoulders and mouthed, "What did that Shittykawa do this time? I'm going to beat the living daylights out of him."
You chuckled as he spoke and a small smile eased onto his lips. Holding a hand to your cheek, he gently reminded, "You know that you have no reason to keep anything from me."
The candour in his words warmed you and you leaned into his touch, feeling your leaden heart lighten just a little.
Meeting his eyes with some awkward diffidence, you said, "Remember how I distanced myself from you and when you tried to confront me, I still found reasons to avoid you?"
He affirmed with a nod, also a silent nudge for you to continue.
You sharply exhaled. "I was running away from you... because I was afraid."
A pause ensued as you cast your eyes to the floor. "I knew I was falling for you Iwa so I tried my best to overcome it. I've been hurt in the past so I didn't want to go through all that pain again. But when you stood with your heart before me, I stopped struggling. And indeed, that's the best thing I've ever done. But sometimes, I feel that what we share is too good to be true and that it'll shatter someday to lacerate us both, leaving only bitterness in its wake."
Your heart beat quickened as you were suddenly struck with the same fear that crippled you before. "I'm–I'm sorry Iwa, I—"
"You have nothing to be sorry for," he cut in with so much conviction that you were taken by surprise.
Peering into your eyes, he asserted, "We all tend to dwell on the past sometimes Y/N but that doesn't mean we'll let it eclipse the present. The then has already taken leave, is gone, has passed away. It may have been hard for you but now you have a chance to do things right, to be happy. I know it's not possible to completely forget the past but you just have to know that bygones can never mar your present and that you are strong enough to accomplish anything. It maybe hard to let things go but you still have to keep trying. You are here after all and you should be proud of yourself, just as I am."
He drew back a little and reproachfully pouted, "And besides, do you really think that I can hurt you?"
He sounded dreadfully hurt so you quickly shook your head to state otherwise.
He immediately relaxed into a gentle smile and softly remarked, "Now why don't you give me one of those blinding smiles that always sets my heart aflutter, hm?"
Yours was the one that fluttered as you obliged, exhilaration overflowing the seams of your being as you threw your arms about him. Meanwhile, his heart was in a similar predicament to finally see a genuine smile on your face and he wholeheartedly returned the embrace.
Indeed, the past could assume a dark form sometimes but it was a mere shadow that couldn't touch you, unless you let it. And since Iwa was beside you, you could not go anywhere but forward.
Ataraxia: Kozume Kenma
"Kenma?"
"Hmm?"
He responded without looking up from his game and you bit your lip, darting your gaze to the floor.
"Y/N," he softly called, even though his eyes were still glued to the device in his hand, "I'm listening."
Your eyes dimmed just a little as a pensive smile curled up your lips. "I don't think you should be with me."
Kenma started, almost dropping his device. He slowly turned to look at you with shock and terror, freezing in that moment. You refused to meet his eyes while you played with the clasp of the bracelet he had given you. After a few moments of agonising silence, you spoke in a downtrodden voice.
"I was afraid when I realised I was falling for you, I was afraid when you were confessing to me, and I was afraid even when I accepted it. I love you Kenma and nothing will ever change that. But I often feel that I hold you back, drag you down into the depths. You deserve so much better you know? You should be with someone who will show you the flowers and the moon and the stars! I couldn't possibly give you even a drop of the ocean that is so vast and brilliant and full of wonders. I'm afraid that all I've been is a shadow that only keeps you from the light."
You suddenly felt your heart sink as you worded your deeply buried anxieties, a sense of dread coming over you. Now that you had uttered those terrible thoughts, what if Kenma did break things off? You only wanted the best for him but if he really did so, you would be beyond heart broken.
You heard him sigh heavily and you held your breath, anticipating the worst. But he merely slid towards you until he was closely nestled against your side. Resting his head on your shoulder, he said, "For someone as incredible as you, you sure are dumb sometimes."
Offended, you gave him a flickering dirty side glance.
Without being affected in the least, he passively went on, "You are perfect just the way you are Y/N so don't you dare talk about yourself like that. I don't need or want anyone else. We all feel like we're not good enough sometimes and no matter what, we'll never make it. But just because we feel like it, doesn't mean that it's true. I doubt myself too but I've never doubted us Y/N. You'll find a way out of that seemingly endless darkness because you are strong; you just have to believe in your own strengths. You've supported me in my darkest days and I'll do the same for you. Things won't always be mellow and filled with sunshine but I know we'll be okay. Because we have love and love will always find a way, just like you always make progress in a game no matter how hard the level is. And since there's always a new level with new challenges to overcome, we'll deal with the new adversities together."
He smiled as he carefully held your cheek with his hand and leant his forehead against yours, a silent act of reassurance and the word of a faithful promise. And you clearly discerned the truth of his words in this simple gesture, and it dispelled the shadows enveloping you.
He closed his eyes as he settled his head back on your shoulder and quietly remarked, "I wish I could stay like this with you forever Y/N."
Something warm sprung and flowed from your heart as you perceived a tranquil contentment wash over him. Your lips curled into a smile soft and genuine, as you placed your head on top of his and closed your eyes.
Being overcome by doubts and giving up what you have was not really a sacrifice; it was only a way of escape, of deserting before being deserted. But the willingness to keep trying was what mattered, and true courage was to keep hoping and striving. In a world of uncertainties, you would navigate your way with Kenma, without ever being riddled by the fear of certainty.
