#Steve has learned how to help only because of his babysitting skills and because he loves his platonic soulmate Robin

This was a quick write and I put in my own experiences in. It’s a bit rushed but I ended up writing more then what I meant to 👀 pretty much I’m projecting my overstimulation on Eddie, plus I love to think Steve doesn’t just babysit the group but other smaller kids as well and he becomes very aware of their needs.
Just- Eddie gets overstimulated all the damn time and has to either bites something or does his overwhelmed bat hands. Flapping them aggressively as he runs away from a situation making Goblin noises. Before he’s putting his hands to his ears and just letting all the noises off from his chest. The amount of times he’s just done that with the group of hellfire boys, it’s become a normal thing. Garett, Jeff and Grant all got used to this years ago. So they knew about how the other got.
Meanwhile Dustin, Mike and Lucas could all get a tad overwhelming. Which is why the other boys all just decide to try and teach them that Eddie gets overstimulated really easily and it takes him more effort to understand peoples tones. Because he puts all his energy into that his tone sometimes doesn’t come off as friendly, and he doesn’t realize it half the time.
But anywho back to the being on course. All of them are somewhat used to it, and they are all shocked by how well Eddie is handling everything in the upside down. Besides a few clicking noises and popping noises he doesn’t run away from them. And when he looks like hes getting overwhelmed he has to close his eyes and rub his head back to hold himself back.
So when everything is finally done and the other is in the hospital. He’s so fucking overstimulated that he’s not even crying because of the pain anymore. The doctors don’t know what to do, not until they start to catch on and they try to help the other be as comfortable as possible. Then Eddie’s ok for a bit.
Then when he leaves the hospital, that’s when everything hits him all at once. It had always strained him a bit to hold himself back from doing what normally helps him with being overstimulated. So he has on and off days but soon enough it’s all good days and he’s with Robin and Steve. The two are energetic just like him but today he can feel himself getting overstimulated and he doesn’t want to embarrass himself. Though something on the radio turns to a high pitched static and robins making noise that doesn’t make since jumping up and down and holding her ears as Steve is quick to shut it off. Quickly and gently not touching her the best he can, moves and has her sit in the back room in the dark with a window open so she can breathe. He moves back out apoligizing to eddie who is really trying not to do the bat flap and just run away with goblin noises.
Steve looks at him and raises a eyebrow. You see he’s been helping Robin out for a while, plus he’s been babysitting smaller kids for a while and he doesn’t know what it’s called but he knows when someone’s getting overwhelmed. He moves over closer to the other as he hums. “Are your stims loud or are they quite?” He asks curiously. That’s what one of the parents used for their child, who was in the process of being diagnosed for autism. And it seemed to be the only word that would fit Robin and Eddie at the moment.
“My what?” Eddie asks confused.
“Stims? Oh shit sorry I have this kid who gets overwhelmed really easily, and well he does these things when he is. He does a bird flap with his hands, starts to click his tongue, whistle or just say certain words over and over again because he likes how they sound. His parents call them stims, and Robin has them as well when she gets overwhelmed and you have the same face that the kid I babysit gets when he’s trying to act normal so- that and the kids told me you apparently turn goblin sometimes.” Steve explains looking at the other with curiousity.
And if Eddie wasn’t about to cry from how overwhelming everything was he would shamelessly fall in love with the other. No one’s ever treated what he has done normal for the first time he does it in his life. Though he’s quick to stammer out a sentence. Breathing picking up. “I get loud.”
“Well, Robin gets overwhelmed by loud or i else I would let you chill with her.” Steve frowns. “What normally helps?” He asks curiously. And Eddie flushed.
“I don’t know.”
“Ok- um come here. The kid I babysit when he gets overwhelmed really likes to cuddle. Maybe you’re the same?” Steve hums and Eddie’s face is flushing as he moves shamelessly over. If the other thought he could help then he would take it. He would cry if it didn’t work.
Steve moves letting the other in and he pulls the other into a warm hug gently rubbing his back and playing with his curls. It was a little overwhelming at first but when Eddie finally lets himself have a moment to close his eyes and breath, Steve’s the first person to properly bring him down. Though Steve does ask him what it means for him to turn “goblin” so he does end up making the noises he normally does acting as if he was saying normal words. Steve doesn’t laugh and nods his head as he helps the other to the best of his abilities.
When Robin comes out shes a little tired but a lot better. Eddie finally lets go when he feels better and Steve hums. “Weighted blankets normally help that kid I was telling you about, if you want I have a extra if you want it.”
And boy does Eddie fall in love.

HERES A CUTE PROMPT FOR U BC THE ANGSTY ONES ARE KILLING ME peter and reader babysitting morgan together and being cute yeah that’s it but it cute :) also i totally agree w not writing for tom anymore, but either way it’s totally ur decision who you write for <3
oooooof a concept we don’t talk about enough :,) and thank you lovely <3
-
babysitting morgan is a task that often falls on you. your dad has major trust issues, so he’ll only allow one of his own to be responsible for such precious cargo.
tonight is tony’s and pepper’s date night, which means it’s also yours and morgan’s. you don’t mind because you thoroughly enjoy every second of your quality sister time.
she is a handful, however. you’ve invited peter over to join to compensate for that. he absolutely adores morgan, and you swear she likes your boyfriend more than she likes you.
traitor.
morgan is perched in peter’s lap, who has an arm gently tucked around her. he’s sitting cross cross and next to you on the floor. you’re currently reading the two of them a story—the hungry caterpillar. it’s a classic, whether they’ll admit it or not.
“one piece of chocolate cake, one ice cream cone, one pickle, one slice of-“ you’re once again interrupted, this time by a groan from morgan. she’s been sighing and scoffing every few pages. lowering the book, you glance over at your sister.
“what’s up, morg?” you finally ask her, though you’re dreading her answer. “i’m too old for this, y/n. you are, too,” she complains, earning an amused raise of peter’s eyebrows.
she’s a drama queen, just like your father.
“you’re five!” you remind morgan with a slight frown. “this is what five year olds are supposed to like.” morgan shifts on peter’s knee so she’s facing you. he’s doing his best to not laugh at your bickering.
“five and a half,” she corrects you. “same difference,” you retort. morgan smirks in her true wise guy fashion. “that’s an oxymoron.”
tossing the book aside in defeat, you hum. “i’d be careful if i were you, morgan. i know where you sleep.” morgan’s jaw drops, her little fingers tugging on peter’s flannel collar for help. “is that a threat?” she wonders. you stick your tongue out at her. “it can be.”
“ladies, ladies!” peter breaks up your argument just as it steers left. “c’mon, y/n/n. you’re better than this. violence is never the answer.” he shoots you a look, weaving a hand through morgan’s hair. she smiles wickedly.
“ugh, will you ever take my side? she started it!” you whine to peter and flick your sister’s shoulder. “no fair! i’m only five, remember?” morgan plays the age card, jutting out her bottom lip. peter continues to stroke her locks soothingly. “your sister’s a big meanie, but it’s okay. i’ll protect you,” he promises.
“you’re so fake, bug boy,” you reprimand your boyfriend. you tap on the hard cover of the hungry caterpillar. “don’t act like you weren’t entertained! this is good stuff right here.” peter shares a funny look with morgan, sucking in a breath. “uh… no comment.”
he slings his free arm around your shoulders and presses a kiss your temple. still annoyed, you push him off of you.
“don’t be like that, babe.” peter pulls you into his side with a chuckle, squeezing you closer. “i just think we could all use something a little more… stimulating, right?” having won the discourse, morgan beams. “i agree. two against one!” she taunts.
“yeah, yeah. you guys deserve each other,” you grumble back, but accept peter’s embrace nevertheless. “what do you wanna do instead, morgan?” “let me think,” she ponders her options, gasping when an idea comes to her. “can we try the shield from uncle steve? dad says peter knows how.”
morgan receives tons of high-tech paraphernalia from the team because they want her to get in touch with her roots. they’d done the same when you were her age. it’s insane, the things she has access to. peter is an actual avenger and doesn’t reap the benefits like she does.
peter does prefer not to engage in superhero activities on his days off. although, he clearly has a knack for operating cap’s shield, as he demonstrated in berlin. he can’t say no to morgan, either.
“this should be interesting. you down?” you check with him, rubbing his shoulder. peter gives you a grin and morgan a nudge forward. “go get it, morg. i’ll teach you all the skills you need to kick cap’s…” he pauses to censor himself. “rear end.”
giggling, you wrap your arms around peter’s neck. “we’ll meet you outside, okay?” you inform your sister. morgan happily hops up from peter’s lap. “okay! don’t swap too much saliva while i’m gone,” she teases you and peter before running along to the lab.
a light blush sets on peter’s cheeks, you hiding your face in his neck.
“where’d she learn how to talk that way?” peter murmurs and moves you to sit in his lap, where morgan was. “my dad, probably. they must be onto us,” you reply with a kiss to his shoulder. he lets out a quiet laugh, hugging you against his chest. “i noticed. nothing gets past a stark.”
“speaking of,” you prompt peter, gazing up into his doe eyes. “be honest. you were vibing with the hungry caterpillar, weren’t you?” a wide smile crossing peter’s features, his lips brush the tip of your nose softly.
“i might’ve been a little invested… don’t tell morgan.”

Summary: A new recruit ends up falling in love with Clint.
TW/CW: Clint Barton x Reader
Requested?: Nah fam
Word Count: 1,253
A/N: So obviously, he doesn’t have a wife and kids in this one. My mom started obsessing over Jeremy Renner the other day and in the process my own old crush on Hawkeye came back and this idea came out of it. There might end up being a part two bc I kind of have an idea for Endgame but I’m still working on making it coherent and deciding things for it. Anyway, I hope you like it, love to all, and as always Requests are Open!
Tumblr media
Your POV
I made my way down to the training room with Nat. I had recently been recruited by Fury because of my enhanced abilities. Upon entering the room, I find Clint, Steve, and Tony all standing around an assortment of weapons. Today, we’re supposed to be choosing me a weapon. The only thing I got is enhanced hearing and sight and a slight boost in my strength a weapon is essential.
Steve tries to hand me a gun but I shake my head no. He raises an eyebrow, “Why not?”
“I’ve shot guns before. They hurt my ears too much,” I respond.
Nat nods, “Okay, makes sense. What about these?”
She goes to hand me a couple of swords but Tony intercepts them, “Nope, we do not want Lucky here tripping and literally falling on their own sword.” Lucky is the nickname and super name that the team gave me because I’m the exact opposite. I find it funny so I let it stick. I’m super clumsy and often find myself in trouble and not even sure how I got there.
Clint steps away from the group and retrieves a bow from the rack of equipment as well as some arrows. He returns and hands them to me. They feel familiar in my hands. It’s almost like riding a bike, except I’ve never shot a bow and arrow before. He pushes me towards the target, “Let’s see what you got.”
I notch an arrow and pull back the string. I focus and aim for the center of the target. I take a deep breath in and then let it out as I also let the arrow fly. It hits dead center. Clint nods, but he seems unimpressed, “Now do it again.” I notch a second arrow, pull back the string, aim for center, breathe in, breathe out and release and this arrow drives right down the shaft of the last one.
With shock on my face, I look at Clint, “I didn’t aim for that to happen.”
“You’re a natural. Guys, we’ve found her weapon,” he states.
Over the next several weeks, I train frequently with Nat for combat and Clint for archery. Nat and I have become really good friends and spend a lot of our time together even when we’re not training. Clint on the other hand always seems ready to get the training over with and then avoids me the rest of the time. Today, we’re going on my first mission with the team. I suit up in my black and yellow outfit and grab my bow and quiver of arrows before making my way to the hangar.
“Ah, Lucky, I want you sticking close to Clint today. I’ve noticed you learn best by observing so watching him in the field will help you learn how to operate out there yourself,” Steve says as I take a seat across from Clint on the Quinjet. Clint only rolls his eyes as he mumbles, “Great babysitting duty.” I ignore him and talk to Nat about some of the skills we’ve been working on.
Sometime later, I find myself in the heat of the battle. Turning around, I notice Clint taking down a whole fleet of bots as one approaches from behind him. I rush over and stand with my back to his as I fire a shot at the approaching attacker. As aimed, I hit it right in the center of the head and it fritzes out before dropping to the ground. Behind me, Clint mumbles a thanks and I chuckle, “Bet you’re glad you got babysitting duty now, huh?” He doesn’t answer and instead heads to meet up with the others and I follow suit.
Since I saved his ass on that mission, Clint has warmed up to me. We don’t really talk much but I find that we don’t need to. Our silence is always comfortable and I even find myself constantly wanting to be around him. He even lets me hang out in the vents with him, which is where we find ourselves today. In the dim light, he grins as he lays down his hand of cards, "Straight Flush.”
I sigh, “Sorry, Royal Flush beats Straight Flush.”
I lay down my cards for him to see and he looks at me in shock, “How do you do that? Every hand we’ve played, you’ve had the next thing above mine to beat me.”
    I shrug, “I don’t know. I guess I'm just lucky.”
As he gathers and shuffles the cards, he says, seemingly more to himself than to me, “We really should start dating.”
I have to look up at his face to make sure he’s not joking before I ask, “Then, why haven’t you asked me?”
He looks up from the cards with a grin on his face, “Okay, (Y/N), will you be mine?”
I grin right back and nod, “Of course, you dork.”
A few weeks later, we’re once again playing poker in the vents when we hear Steve yell, “Clint! (Y/N)! Could you guys meet us in the conference room please?” With this, we gather our cards and begin crawling our way to the conference room vent cover. Once we reach it, Clint drops down first and I follow right behind him.
“So, that’s where you two have been hiding,” Nat says with a strange grin on her face.
“We have a mission,” Steve says before diving right into the mission briefing. Said mission is another Hydra base take down.
A good while later, we’re in the thick of the battle once more when I hear Nat yell over the coms, “Clint’s hit!” I start mowing my way towards my best friend and boyfriend as I hear Nat ask over the com, “Somebody want to deal with that bunker?” I drop to one knee beside the two, still firing at enemies who try to get near, as Nat applies pressure to Clint’s wound.
I lose track of how long it is before we get Clint to Dr. Cho and she starts fixing him up. A few jokes are said to ease the tension but for me they go in one ear and out the other as I struggle to remain calm. I can’t lose Clint, not now. His joke is the first to reach me and bring my focus back to reality, “No, no, no. I'm going to live forever. I'm gonna be made of plastic.” I lock eyes with him and laugh softly.
He looks away as Tony hands him something, “Here’s your beverage.”
Clint looks back to me and takes a sip of the drink as Dr. Cho speaks up, “You'll be made of you, Mr. Barton. Your own girlfriend won't be able to tell the difference.”
Clint gives me a knowing look as he responds, “Well, I don't have a girlfriend.” He and I had decided to not tell the team we were together until we got more comfortable with it ourselves.
Later, after the party and Ultron’s escape Clint and I are talking in the hallway; we haven’t had much alone time since he got hurt. He looks around before pulling up his shirt, “What do you think? Can you tell the difference?”
I run my finger over the area that Dr. Cho fixed, “Almost but not really. I can’t see it but I can just barely feel it.”
He laughs before pulling me into a hug and just as we pull away, Steve walks by, “Hey, I think we might have something.”

Chapter Five: The One with the Burnt Pancakes
Warnings: N/A
Word Count: 2516
Coming out of a divorce unscathed was more uncommon than its counterpart. Typically, a bit of baggage attaches itself to one or both parties. No matter whether or not divorce rates are through the roof in today's modern era, it still hurt more than words could describe. Especially when it's due to an affair. It creates this sense of unworthiness, and as though you weren't good enough. And when the pair has a child, it makes it ten times more difficult. Knowing that you'll have to break it to the child that their parents will no longer be together, and that they will most likely spend more time with one in comparison to the other.
But, when your child already has a bit of distaste towards your partner, it can make the blow a little softer. Sure, every mother wants their child to have a relationship with their father, other mom, etc. Whatever the situation is, parents, want that. They want to be able to see their child's face when they see their ex-spouse, but sometimes, there's nothing you can do about it. Especially when your ex never put in the effort, to begin with.
Above all, your perception of love changes. and that's exactly what happened to Lily. She lost all belief in herself and didn't believe she could ever find someone who would love her, along with the baggage that she carried alongside her. And that broken heart that she has yet to mend, and honestly, she wasn't sure if she'd ever find someone who could help. To cup warm hands around the two halves and hold them together until they combined once again.
Other things she deemed impossible, was her sitting in a kitchen with the avengers. Earth’s mightiest heroes. The people that destroyed an entire army. travelled to space. Some even having been ripped out of time and thrown into different roles and periods. These people had stories people couldn't even dream of, lived lives people only wished to be able to experience. And here sat Lily, a single mother of an 11-year-old boy, who lived in a domestic area, and worked as a pediatrician. She was minuscule in comparison to the Gods and soldiers that sat around her.
"So, is Hunter’s father around?" a soft voice asked, an accent dripping from the words. It had pulled Lily out of her thoughts of astonishment, as she tried to wrap her head around what was currently happening.
"Hm? Oh, no," Lily spoke, her voice as soft as the gentle ripple of a pond, while she sipped the coffee they had given her. Glancing up, a few of the superheroes looked at her with inquisitive eyes, wondering where he may be, or if he even was to be anymore, "We uh, we divorced four years ago."
"I'm sorry to hear that," the girl continued. Lily had placed her as Scarlet Witch, or Wanda Maximoff. Hunter adored her. He ranted and raved about how cool her abilities were and how she could probably take down an entire army by herself if she wanted to, "He's cute. I've always wanted kids."
Lily nodded along as the conversation continued around her. She stayed as silent as a sleeping lamb, her green eyes glancing around as she tapped her fingers against her coffee mug. She wasn't sure what they wanted her to say. It had been proven time and time again that Lily was the farthest from a talker. Deep inside of her mind, the little voice of self-doubt had convinced her that no one cared about what she had to say. That the only reason people even spoke to her, to begin with, was because it was polite. But she's also been told that the world around her found that shy demeanour endearing, and mysterious. As if she held secrets behind those sealed lips when in reality, Lily was scared that if she spoke, she'd create secrets. Letting the world in on the pain she hid, that she kept locked away in a vault deep within her mind. protecting herself from being destroyed again.
"...So if you ever need a babysitter," Wanda’s voice sang again, yanking Lily away from her deeper thoughts once again, as though the two were tethered. the young blonde's attention perked up as the young girl continued speaking, "I'm your girl."
Was the Scarlet Witch, offering to babysit Lily's eleven-year-old? As in, seriously? Like to pick him up or come down from upstate New York to deliberately take care of him? If it weren't for the fact Lily rarely left the house, and if she did, it was with Hunter, she may have considered the idea. But Lily wasn't one to go out. The noise that came along with the idea of partying or going out on the town always got Lily's heart beating at a much too fast pace. If she was going out, it was to gen's cafe, or with three glasses of wine down and a whole bottle to go. The world was loud and intimidating, and could easily crush Lily's fragile heart and mind with a simple touch. And where would that lead her? Nowhere good, that's where.
"Oh that's sweet, but I don't typically go out, and when I do, he comes with," Lily stated, lips forming a tight smile as she ran her finger along the circular hole atop her mug.
"Really? A girl that's as beautiful as you must get tons of guys and go out on dates. and I see no ring on that finger," the infamous Tony Stark teased while shifting his weight to look at the blonde, "unless there's already a lucky fella."
A laugh of almost disbelief escaped through Lily's full lips as if the idea of Tony Stark calling her beautiful was too good to be true, "Oh no. my best friend tries but I don't date. Already have my hands full with work and Hunter."
"Where do you work?" Steve's voice now chimed in, pushing off the counter he leaned on as Bucky worked away, staying silent. He hadn't spoken a word to Lily since Steve walked her through the threshold of the kitchen, merely a gruff hi before returning to the feverish work he was doing on the pancakes. It was as though he was trying to make them perfect.
"I'm a pediatrician at Mount Sinai Kravis Children's Hospital down in Manhattan," Lily answered, her eyes averting from looking at any of the intimidating people around her. Why were they so interested in her? Why did they seriously care so much about her personal life? She just brought Hunter here for a tour, not an interrogation...was this what people did? Like...they wanted to learn more about her? It didn't make sense, she was pretty basic. There was nothing special to her, Lily thought.
"Oh, that's awesome. I have a few-"
"SHIT!"
The large outburst caused everybody to immediately turn their attention to where it came from. Behind the counter, Bucky was waving smoke away from his face that seemed to be billowing from the pan on the stove. He burnt the pancakes. Lily felt a small smile tug at the corners of her lips as she watched him throw a towel at the counter, his face turning a crisp shade of red, like a cherry. The moment his eyes landed on her though, his entire body lit up in a hue of pink it seemed. He grew flustered, biting down on this ever so soft lips he had. Lily was only human, she couldn't help but avert her eyes down to the thin layer of skin. And as if on cue, Wanda let her voice ring through the kitchen.
"Damn it, Barnes! I told you not to cook, and you decide to challenge your abilities in front of our guest?" The ginger exclaimed while standing from her chair, going to help the built man clean his mess.
A few of the others in the room whined, and Lily guessed they had been waiting for a bit to eat. She felt a twang of guilt deep within her, as though it was her fault. But it really wasn't, she wasn't the one making the pancakes. no, she was merely answering the personal questions they all seemed to have for her, as well as constantly glancing at the hall or behind her to see if Hunter was on his way back. Instead, he was now outside with Sam, looking at all of the different artifacts and things that weren't able to be kept inside of the compound.
"You much of a chef, Lily?" James Rhodes (Warmachine, she reminded herself), asked. No matter the amount of mental effort it took, Lily couldn't help but allow the tinge of rose to decorate her full cheeks. They seemed to want to get to know her, and she felt almost...accepted? No, maybe more so welcomed, by these beings of immense power and ability. She allowed her shoulders to relax, and her grip on her mug lessened.
"Nothing impressive, but I do know my way around a kitchen," she responded, tilting her head to the side, causing her blonde locks to dance across her shoulder, "Most nights, I try to make homemade meals for Hunt and I. It's important for a child's development." she finished but noticed how all of their eyes were glued to her. Raising her left eyebrow ever so gently, she let a giggle escape from her throat, "but sometimes I give in and order pizza."
"You should help Bucky out, he's never been the best cook. Got used to boiling everything in the forties, so he makes a mean hot dog," Steve teased, sauntering over in all of his Captain America excellence, "Anything else? Completely lost on him."
"It's a good skill to have. But difficult to master, I suppose." Lily shrugged, crossing her legs over one another as she rested her elbow on the glass table, cupping her chin as she sipped the hot liquid in her cup. She couldn't seem, however, to take her eyes off of the culprit of the burnt pancake smell. The way the muscles in his neck rippled whenever he clenched his jaw. How his metal arm glinted as a small stream of light entered through a window, creating a bright reflection. How his scruff along his chiselled chin seemed to be a bit overgrown underneath.
Her mind began to wander momentarily, a gentle and soft vision dancing itself into her brain. Him sitting on a chair in her bathroom, Lily sitting comfortably on his lap, facing him. His eyes sleepy and his hair unkempt. Her skilled and nimble hand resting on the side of his face as she trimmed underneath his jaw, getting those areas he seemed to miss. His lips parted as he seemed to slowly drift off again, as though Lily's gentle hands were willing him to...
A hand waving in front of her face snatched Lily out of her odd fantasy land. She cleared her throat and looked around her, eyebrows knitting together in confusion, as though she had been paying attention to the whole conversation she just missed. Holding her lips inside of her mouth, Lily shifted once again in her seat, attempting to play it cool as the blush that had formed on her cheeks seemed to grow rapidly.
"Sorry, could you repeat what you said?" she asked, her voice weak as her eyes shifted to look at the man behind the counter once again. She couldn't help it...he was beautiful.
"I said you should help Buck out making the pancakes. Most of us haven't eaten, and if you're as good as you say, maybe you can help." Steve grinned, a knowing glint in his sky blue eyes. The way he looked at Lily, as though he could see inside of her head, sent a shiver down her spine. The idea of anyone knowing where her mind just wandered was basically mortifying for her. Being such a conservative person, the idea of that getting out? Yeah, no.
"Oh no I shouldn't...I'm positive he's capable of making pancakes." Lily chuckled, her voice cracking halfway through. This caught everyone's interest, and Lily had to hide her face with her mug as the dark liquid slid its way down her throat.
"He isn't. We don't normally let him in the kitchen. C'mon Lily, show us whatcha got." Steve continued to pry, leaning back in his chair as the others encouraged the entire idea.
Lily's head turned back to where Bucky stood, an almost pleading yet bashful look gracing his perfectly sculpted features. Just the way his eyes seemed to call out for her, was enough to allow the eldest Osborne to give in to the peer pressure of her new acquaintances. That was something Lily believed to be impossible, being friends with these heroes. These people that laid their life on the ground multiple times, saving her and her son by protecting the world around them. She was in debt to this group, everybody was. They've kept them protected for countless years. But how would one even begin to thank them?
"Okay okay, I'll do it," Lily mumbled, finishing her drink before pushing herself out of the chair that probably cost the same amount as her dog. She pulled a hair tie from her wrist and securing the blonde locks at the nape of her neck as she gracefully floated towards the kitchen. Glancing around, she couldn't help but let out a laugh at how expensive the items around her were. Sure, she didn't live in a house with run-down appliances, but these were top-of-the-line, high-end, see-on Food Channel things. A far reach from Lily's budget, "Well, first of all, Bucky, you need to turn on the fan."
After preparing everything to ensure not only safety but also to optimize space and time, Lily turned towards the man she had just moments ago daydreamed of. For a moment, she found herself lost in those steel-blue eyes he had. As though he had captured the moon and made them his own, adding a tinge of the blue from the sky above. How with every flicker across her face, a story was told. The pain and suffering he had endured etched into the dips and creases of his face, especially around those beautiful orbs. A part of her wished that the other members of the group were gone and that she could grip the sides of his face and kiss those lips he kept licking. His tongue darting out to wet them, creating a slight chapped ring around the pink layer of skin.
"Hey if you two are done gazing into the eyes of each other and looking like Hollister models, the rest of us are hungry." Starks’s voice rang, snapping Lily out of the trance the ex-soldier had put her under for a few seconds.
"I have no idea what you're talking about, coke can," Bucky muttered while turning his gaze away from Lily's and focused on washing the blueberries, "I'm just cleaning fruit."

❛  there is no heroism in war — there are simply things that need to be done.  ❜ with tony and your choice of second person?
If there’s one thing that Tony learned from his father, it was that everyone will idolize the people in war who go too soon.
Every single Fourth of July, they visited the honorary headstone that was put up for Captain America. Howard waxes poetic about how strong and how brave this man was, and if he gets drunk (which is usually always a given) he talks to Tony about how much he wishes he had a son like good ole’ Steven Grant Rogers.
“Well, you first went wrong by agreeing to let Mama name me Anthony,” he says, because his words can be just like Howard’s.
He gets sent to his room for the remainder of that holiday, and watches fireworks that boom with impressive chemical reactions while overlooking the party that his parents host every single year.
His least favorite holiday is the Fourth of July. He lets people know it, says it in all the fluffy interviews, and he lets everyone think it’s because he can’t make fireworks himself, or that he hates his father’s patriotic legacy, and those are both true.
But not the real reason.
This continues for years. Tony is infamous for never celebrating the Fourth of July, especially after his parents’ deaths.
People speculate. Say it’s “too painful a day.”
Oh, it’s not. It’s far from painful. Tony simply just...doesn’t care about the day. He makes himself a nice drink, sits on his deck, and stares out at the ocean ahead of him. People ride on boats, there are fireworks going off all day, and he treats it like any other day.
And then he’s asked for an interview for a documentary on Captain America.
Everyone and their mother knew about Howard’s obsession; he wasn’t exactly quiet about it.
He says no.
“I don’t talk about him,” Tony says over the phone. “But good luck with your show.”
It makes it to the media. People accuse him of hating America, hating any symbol that represents America, and being a Communist.
“A billionaire being a Communist,” he muses the next time he’s out in public, and everyone’s microphones are shoved in his face. “I like that logic.”
Rhodey says that he is now on a watch-list.
“Aw, a late birthday present for me? You shouldn’t have,” Tony purrs. “How hard did you laugh, honey-pie?”
“For about ten minutes on and off after that meeting,” Rhodey says with a snort. “I’m just surprised they only have you on it now. Haven’t you threatened at least one government official before this?”
“I think my body count is ten as of last week,” Tony says.
“What’d you do last week?”
“Hm, you’ll find out about it soon enough.”
When he’s with Yinsen, he thinks that maybe he’ll be a hero. He’ll probably die and no one will ever find him, and then if he sees his father if there’s an afterlife, he’ll probably be proud of him.
Finally on the same level of Captain America.
But Tony thinks that maybe he’d like to see a Malibu sunset one more time. See Pepper groan as he ignores yet another set of paperwork, but smiles when he gets it done when her back is turned. Sit with Rhodey at a burger place and complain about everything in life.
So goddammit, he’s going to skip the whole hero shtick. Wasn’t his thing then, certainly not his thing now.
Yinsen looks at him with a smile.
“Ready to get out of here?”
“Yes, Tony. I think I am.”
It’s a cruel kind of joke, to be ready to get out of there and mean that your family is somewhere high up, open with open arms.
Tony grieves for a moment, but he only has one moment to spare before everything goes up in flames.
It’s enough of an explosion that Rhodey will know without a doubt it’s him. No one with any sort of military training would make that explosion, although Tony laughs as he soars into the sky and realizes that it looks similar to the unfortunate kitchen fire he started during their third year of college.
He just hopes they make it in time.
He creates Iron Man again. A better version, honestly...
At least, until the icing thing, which he was very stupid for overlooking, but he’s not going to blame himself too badly for it because he just created a suit that was made for flying.
He founds out that the man he viewed as more family than his own should never have been trusted, and he nearly dies on a couch that is honestly not that comfortable to begin with.
He decides people won’t know he’s Iron Man. He doesn’t want to give them that much satisfaction, that much more motivation to kill him.
He knows he’s not a hero. He also knows that if they knew about Iron Man, most people would probably scoff. Wonder how long this little fad for the rich guy would last.
Tony doesn’t want people to know he’s doing it, especially not the board.
When he announced that the weapons manufacturing department was shutting down, he knew that Obadiah wasn’t the only person in power who had the means to subvert things without being caught onto, at least for a few months.
Iron Man--if he wasn’t directly tied to Stark Industries--had a much better chance of destroying old weapon shipments.
He wasn’t expecting to become a hero. He also wasn’t expecting people to catch on, regardless of how much Rhodey and Pepper laughed at this at their Sunday dinners. (New thing that they’re trying out, Tony likes it a bit too much.)
Well, not everyone catches on.
Fortunately for him, SHIELD doesn’t. They want to know who Iron Man is, if they can sway him to work for them. Tony nearly laughs every single time they send a newbie agent to survey the property or have Agent Coulson visit about every month.
“You’ll have to be careful,” Agent says on one of his monthly routine visits. They never say what time he’s coming, which is why Jarvis has been given permission to go wherever he likes in their servers.
Jarvis pretends like he’s not as excited as a kid on a holiday.
“We’re just asking for a little transparency,” Agent asks, on one of his tirades.
“Will that be all, Agent?” Tony asks, entirely over this little interaction. He had really been banking on Fury sending in a new recruit, and Tony would get to scare them with his new loud-speaker he’d been working on...
“Well actually-”
“Tony, you should be on a first-name basis by now,” Pepper says, sweeping gracefully into the room. “Good afternoon Phil, good to see you again.”
“You as well, Ms. Potts. I hope your business dinner went smoothly?”
“It did.”
“I don’t like how friendly you two are,” Tony says, narrowing his eyes. “And Phil? You want me to call him Phil?”
“You could call me Phillip,” Agent suggests.
“Who are you, a member of the royal family?” Tony asks. “I hope not.”
“We’ll be in touch,” Agent says.
“Don’t be,” Tony says. “We’re fine here. Iron Man’s watching you.”
"Mind telling me where?” Phil asks lightly, knowing he will not be getting a serious answer of any sort.
“Well unfortunately, Iron Man signed a very extensive babysitting contract. All hush-hush, you know how NDA’s can be, darling.”
Agent sighs, and then leaves.
Pepper looks after him.
“You know, SHIELD could use someone like you.”
“They could use something,” Rhodey says with a snort. “They want the suit and leverage on top.”
“Exactly,” Tony agrees.
“So? Negotiate,” Pepper says with a shrug. “Make it work for you. You’ve done it before.”
“We’ll see,” Tony says, diving back into the circuits. “We’ll see.”
He does not see.
They tell him that Captain America got defrosted, and there Steve Rogers is in an ice block, at least until they can melt down the ice surrounding his feet.
Agent is, of course, over the moon.
“You could at least pretend to be professional,” Tony mutters, eyes not tearing away from the man in front of them. “Where are you going to put him?”
“Rehabilitation program through SHIELD.”
“And your plan for that?”
“On a need-to-know basis.”
“Oh, so it’ll go terribly. Wonderful.”
“It won’t go terribly,” Agent says. “There may be some hiccups, but that happens with everything. I’m sure Iron Man wasn’t picture-perfect when you found him.”
“Of course not, but he isn’t...he isn’t this,” Tony says, gesturing to the melting block of ice.
Phil turns back to look.
“I think your dad would be over the moon.”
“Best day since the fucking Fourth of July for him,” Tony says bitterly, turning away. “I gotta get going. Let me know if you need anything for him.”
“I think we have it handled, unless you want to send Iron Man over as a bodyguard.”
“Ha ha,” Tony says sarcastically. “How smart of you to offer. He’ll have to decline due to extenuating circumstances.”
Of course SHIELD bungles Steve Rogers. Terribly.
He doesn’t know which history-major-dropout they got to coordinate the room’s details or the details of his life in general, but they did a truly terrible job.
God, Tony only half-paid attention to his dad’s rants about the “good old days” and Rogers’ whole biography of life, and he could’ve done a better job while drunk.
But it’s not his job to fix, and he’s more focused on making sure that Iron Man stays busy, because if he doesn’t then SHIELD tends to think he’s bored. (And he is...don’t get him wrong. But not that bored.)
Aliens.
Fucking aliens.
They bring a man back from oblivion in immortality, and now they have aliens.
It’s one of those things where Tony just says “alright” and goes with it.
They want Iron Man aboard, and Tony asks where he’s wanted.
“Just Iron Man,” Coulson says, an apologetic smile on his face.
Tony shoots him one right back.
“Because I know this wasn’t your decision, Agent, I won’t be mad at you. Also because you’re one of Pep’s favorite people. But it’s like salt-and-pepper shakers; just having one is sad.”
That’s all the explanation SHIELD gets, until they learn to ask Rhodey.
“You have any mechanics that Tony trusts with that suit?” he asks.
"We have a variety of skilled mechanics that would be happy to help,” the man says over the phone.
“No,” Rhodey says, grinning. “I mean, do you have any that Tony knows and trusts?”
The phone is silent after that.
“I thought as much. Well, let Tony know I’m eating his leftovers since he left them in the fridge to help you guys out with the end of the world or whatever.”
Click.
The Avengers is a shit-show.
But Tony is very excited to see one man in particular, and that’s Bruce Banner. Doctor Bruce Banner, if you wanted to get technical. (If you wanted to get even more technical, you could add about six more “doctors” in there.)
They work well together, and Tony gets a tiny view into how Bruce works, in a sense.
They found him playing doctor, and he wasn’t exactly happy to leave.
Tony tells him that he thinks that there’s more to his life.
“So what, Hulk...saved my life?” Bruce asks, and Tony can tell he doesn’t believe it, can tell how he’s avoiding looking through the glass across the way.
(Tony’s broken a window that way, having eye contact with himself.)
“Yes,” Tony says simply. “And I’m glad he did, because I have a lot to ask you about...”
And then, you know.
Life happens.
You make about three too many jokes, and suddenly you and Captain America have this weird tension thing, and then you have to manually turn a fan so the entire ship crew doesn’t die.
It seems to run on some form of electricity!
God, what a nightmare.
Aliens invade.
Tony learns about how to tell the modern telling of Jonah and the Whale, and he also learns that he never wants to learn anything about space again.
Hulk also makes a lovely alarm.
Bruce is the first to move in.
Well, he’s kind of forced to, but not really, because Tony promises that he won’t actively try to get Hulk to come out for things, and Bruce is swayed by the promise of getting bagels for breakfast.
Natasha and Clint trail in next, and Natasha says that she told Steve to come to.
“You didn’t ask me if I was okay with that,” Tony says with a frown. “But I suppose it’s better than whatever accommodations SHIELD pulls.”
Clint snorts.
“You got that right.”
Thor knows he has a place to stay at, should he ever need it. He smiles at Banner on his way up to Asgard to send his brother to alien-jail, or whatever they call it up there.
Tony doesn’t ask about it.
He and Bruce drive home in one of his flashy cars, and Bruce looks a little lost at all the posters hung up around the city, the ones with a green man grinning.
“They like you,” Tony says. “Good job.”
“Not like they hate Iron Man or anything,” Bruce says. “I just...I’m not a hero.”
Tony nods. Doesn’t say anything. He gets the sentiment.
(He knows how this will go.)
Hiding Iron Man is...harder. Admittedly.
Steve keeps wanting to talk to him about battle strategy, and Tony is at work, so it’s not like he can conference call.
(Okay well he can, but Pepper yelled at him for wearing the helmet in his office.)
Natasha and Clint are naturally curious, as they’re supposed to be. The only problem is that both of them have professional training in how to make that curiosity dangerously effective.
Thor doesn’t really mind, although he keeps making hints that he could take Iron Man to get better armor.
“Sorry lightning rod, I’ll pass,” Iron Man says on one mission. “Now, where is my favorite doctor...”
“He’s already back at the Tower,” Clint says. “Said something about wanting to ask Tony a question on his experiment.”
Iron Man pauses.
“...alright. I’ll start jetting home, meet you guys there.”
Iron Man barely makes it into his “section” before Bruce is coming down the stairs, muttering and holding papers.
“Tony?”
“Yes, dear!” Tony calls, scrambling to shed off the armor before Bruce could get too close.
It didn’t work.
He has one of the gloves still on his palm as he faces Bruce.
“...what.”
“Um, just. Trying out the schematics. Of the suit. For Iron Man.”
“You’re...you’re Iron Man?”
“Well, let’s not throw around accusations that can’t be proved.”
“You have literally stated in interviews that the suit is custom-fit to the user,” Bruce says. “I have the magazine that that’s from.”
“Well, I have a...similar body type?”
“Oh my god.” Bruce blinks, readjusting his glasses. “Do the others...Natasha knows, right? She has to know.”
“Absolutely not,” Tony says. “Of course not! Why would she know?”
“Because she’s a spy, Tony! That’s what spies do!”
“Well then she’s a bad one!”
There’s silence for a moment as they stare at each other.
Tony sighs, heading over to the chairs set aside.
“I imagine you’ll have questions, Dr. Banner.”
“Of course I do.”
Tony gestures somewhere, telling Jarvis to put the lab in blackout mode, no one out or in, and to update Pepper on the NDA situation.
“Why’d you hide it?” Bruce asks.
“No one needs to know it’s me. Easier to balance work and home life.”
Bruce looks at him.
“Do not bullshit me.”
Tony looks over at a blue hologram of a project he’s working on.
“In all honesty, I’d like to say that it’s because of that, but I’ve never actually balanced work and home. It’s just...ugh. It’s personal. Can I say it’s personal, and you drop it?”
“I mean, you could,” Bruce says. “But I still know that you’re him and he’s you, and you’ve been hiding that you’re a hero for years.”
“I wouldn’t call it being a hero,” Tony says. “Just tying up loose ends.”
“And saving the world, can’t forget that one,” Bruce says.
“Well if you call me a hero, then I get to do the same thing for you.”
“Hulk is not a hero, he’s a carefully monitored rage monster.”
“Was that what we were doing the whole time we were up against the Chitauri? Monitoring the Hulk while multitasking? I don’t know if you’ve read the scientific news, Bruce, but none of us can multitask as well as we think.”
“Not the point.”
“Yes the point.”
They stare at each other.
“Why don’t you want to be known as a hero?” Bruce asks, finally.
“I’m not the type of person anyone wants for a hero.”
“And am I?” Bruce asks with a smile.
“Are any of us?” Tony responds.
So they sit, and there’s this comfortable familiarity about being the same, looking at things the same, if not for a bit of difference.
Bruce finally speaks up.
“So. Who are we betting to be the last to know? Because I think it’ll be Natasha.”
“Are you crazy? She’s gonna be the next to know.”
“I don’t know, Clint can be pretty perceptive.”
“Oh come on. If anything, it’ll be Thor. He’s almost never here, and he never drops by with a message beforehand.”
“I bet you a smoothie that it’s Nat.”
“You’re on.”
Nat is the last one to figure it out. Bruce just shrugs as Tony looks at him, mouth open.
“How did you...?”
“I know things,” Bruce says.
(Not true: he’s been waging psychological warfare on Nat ever since he made that bet because he wanted a peach-mango smoothie.)
Neither think of themselves as heroes. But sometimes, you don’t think of yourself as a hero even though you are one. (Not that they know that other people’s perceptions hold sway.)

( Reader ) P.O.V.
Hawkins, Indiana. My newfound home.
I’ve been here for two months. Two glorious months of blending into the crowds and trying to not become the target of social ridicule. In that aspect, nothing has changed from my former hometown on the southern tip of the state. No matter where you go, peers are jerks.
I clamber into my house, hanging my backpack on the edge of the kitchen chair. “I’ve got you a job.” Mom says while stirring something sizzling on the stove.
My brow raises curiously. “A job? What kind of job?” I linger over to the fridge and open it to browse it’s empty shelves as a distraction. Finding work has been a source of stress for me, especially in a small town like Hawkins where everyone knows everyone.
Mom smiles reassuringly, setting the food to simmer. She walks over to me, closing the fridge so I will look at her. “It’s a babysitting job for the Wheeler’s. I know how much you like kids, so I thought it was the perfect opportunity! Holly is around four and their son, Mike, is thirteen.”
It’s true, I do love kids... However, thirteen is a difficult age between I-don’t-need-a-babysitter and I-will-set-the-house-on-fire-if-I’m-not-watched. That’s the only thing that gives me a millisecond of hesitation. I smile at my mom, her expression mirroring mine.
“When’s my first shift?”
****
So, Friday after school, I drive over to the Wheeler residence to meet with the parents before they went off to have a ‘date night’. Holly was your typical four year old, playing with her toys on the living room carpet. Mike, on the other hand, was less than thrilled at the thought of my company.
“Mom, I don’t need a babysitter! This is ridiculous!” He cries as Mrs. Wheeler slides in a pair of earrings. “Will, Dustin and Lucas are supposed to be coming over to finish our campaign!”
“And you can finish your game just fine while Y/n is here. Nancy is out with Jonathan and we need someone here to put Holly to bed. I’m sorry, Michael, but you’re just going to have to deal with it.” Mrs. Wheeler finishes as she slips her heel into a pair of pumps.
“Dad, you can’t be serious?” Mike asks incredulously. My presence, standing like a statue in the middle of their house, seemed uncomfortable. I wanted to vanish from the throws of this disagreement between parents and child.
Mr. Wheeler was a very monotone man. Without much of a glance at his son, he said, “Listen to your mother.” He slipped on his coat, patted Michael’s head and followed his wife out with a definitive shut of the door.
Mike groaned loudly and he was obviously aggravated.
I drop my things beside the door and decide to check on Holly while I let Mike simmer down. She smiles at me, not finding me too intrusive, and continues to play with her dollies. Mrs. Wheeler said she ordered pizza and left the money on the counter.
Mike stands in the doorway, eyeing me wearily. “So... what kind of campaign are you having?” I ask, trying to break my way past his defense. He looks unimpressed with my efforts but answers anyway.
“It’s for D&D. I’ve been working on it for weeks and everything has to be perfect-” He’s getting antsy about it and I can tell that he’s afraid it’ll be disappointing.
“Dungeons and Dragons...Got it. It’ll be perfect, I’m sure. How about you go on down and set up? I’ll bring the pizza when it arrives.” Mike furrows his brows at me. “Listen, I get it. You’re too old for a babysitter. I’ll respect that, but you gotta cut me some slack. Deal?”
Something shifts and I can sense that I’ve made quite the impression. “Fine, deal.” He agrees. I sigh in relief and he spares no time in going downstairs to prepare. At least I’ll only have to really focus on Holly until her bedtime.
****
A few hours later, Holly was tucked in and knocked out in slumber. The boys downstairs kept to themselves and didn’t budge character even when I came sloping down the stairs with pizza boxes. Though, they did take the liberty of introducing themselves to me briefly.
Now that I had free time, I ventured back down into their lair with the intention to clean up whatever mess they’ve made during their game. Four boys sat around a fold-up table with junk food wrappers and crushed soda cans littering the area around them. All of them looked very high on sugar.
The bottom step creaked underneath my feet and all of their eyes turned up at me. “Don’t stop on my account! I’m just gonna pick up the trash so your parents don’t kill me.” I say, holding up the trash bin I’ve dragged along with me.
Mike shrugs nonchalantly and continues to describe the scene they all just rolled into. I can feel the hesitation to launch into full-blown roll playing while I’m walking in such near proximity. Hurrying my clean up, I try to make as little noise as possible as I crouch over to scoop the evidence of their escapades from sight. There must have been some sort of acceptance of me since they all begin to scream in horror, roaring with accents and acting out their advancements as they roll their dice.
My lips pull up into a smile at their excitement. All of them are out of their seats, focused on the board in front of them as Dustin rolls for dexterity. I don’t see the number in which it landed but the hollers mixed with ‘yes!’s lead me to believe it was exactly what they needed.
Suddenly, the door behind them slams open and Steve Harrington prances through looking stern. “You guy’s said you would be done at nine! I’ve been waiting outside for thirty minutes you shi-”
His eyes land on me as the boys lower themselves into their seats. I can’t imagine the expression I’m wearing. Shock? Confusion? Interest? Either way, I just saw golden-boy-heart-throb Steve freaking Harrington go into full mom mode.
Dustin speaks up, “I’m sorry, Steve. We didn’t know it would take this long! We are almost finished, if you could just-” His words are cut off by Holly’s voice roaming the living room. She must have been woken up by the commotion.
Looking sheepish, I silently excuse myself, though all eyes watch me ascend, to go take care of the disturbed four year old. Holly looks pitiful with a blanket draped over her shoulder and a pout tugging at her lip.
Picking her up, I stroll back up to her room. Her head flops onto my shoulder, still very exhausted and obviously troubled at being stolen from her precious rest. It takes almost no time to get her to settle back into her mattress with a sigh. My fingers brush her golden strands away from her mouth and I see her become heavy as she goes under. I close the door, only leaving it open a crack, behind me. Hopefully it’ll be enough to buffer out the sound of the boys downstairs.
Assuming the boys would have dispersed after the arrival of Steve, I'm quite surprised to see them all continuing their game as if nothing happened. Even more so when I notice they’ve convinced the brown hair senior to participate.
At the grounds of Hawkins High School, I’ve seen Steve around. Rumor has it that he had changed quite a bit from last year, though it’s inconclusive as to why. Steve was a popular. He had girls chasing after him, he was athletic and fell underneath another high school cliche. That’s all that I knew about him.
Yet, here he stands in front of me. Purple pointed hat and matching robes clothe him as a poor excuse for a wizard. He recites some line Mike had written out for him with thinly veiled irritation, though he does put a bit of effort forward to sound mighty.
Will and Lucas join up to strike him down, their combined skills making for an epic conclusion to their campaign. Seeming as if Steve almost gets into it, he falls to his knees, hands grasping his chest as he curses them. With a dramatic cough he falls flat on his back, tongue lolling out of the corner of his mouth- dead.
The boys laugh and I join in, covering my mouth in a weak attempt to hide my amusement. My burst of giggles must contrast very differently because it immediately makes Steve’s eyes open and him hop up, shedding the ridiculous getup. “Nicely done, boys! Mike, your parents should be home soon. Do you need help cleaning up?” I ask.
Lucas waves me off. “Nah, we can put everything away.”
“Thanks.” Will adds.
Together, they start gathering up their things while discussing the events that took place on their way to a victorious game. I’m so focused on the boys that I forget Steve for a moment.
“Hi, I’m Steve. Harrington, that is.” He introduces, holding out his hand for me to take. I accept it, smiling at him. Of course I know who he is, but I won’t point that out. “You’re that new girl that moved here a while back, right?”
Drawing my hand back to my side, I nod. “Yeah, a little over two months ago. I’m Y/n.” Bending at the waist, I gather his wizard robes and playfully extend them toward him. “These are yours, I presume?”
“What? No-no, that-” He stops at my smile, realizing my attempt at banter. “Oh, ha-ha. You try saying no to these kids when they’re hyped up on D&D and sugar!”
I laugh.”I’m sure I’ll have to at some point. That is, if I can keep this as a regular babysitting job.” I toss the robes into a basket setting on the couch. “I assume I’ll be seeing you around here as well. Seems like you’re....” I avoid calling Steve a ‘mom’ to his face, “close with them. I suppose I’ll have to learn from you on how to gain their respect.”
Steve laughs but he doesn’t get a chance to respond. “Stop flirting with the babysitter, Steve. If we’re out late again, we’re toast.” Dustin says, pushing the straps of his backpack over his shoulders. I instantly flush at the words and Steve knocks the kid’s hat down to obstruct his view.
“I’ll see you around, Y/n.” He calls, pushing Will, Dustin and Lucas out the door.
Shaking my head, I sigh lightly. Mike and I are left in the basement, standing in the quiet they left behind. My hand cups the back of my neck in an attempt to cool down the warmed skin there. “Thanks. For tonight, I mean. I guess you aren’t so bad.” Mike says, folding the table up.
I bite my lip to suppress my grin. Perhaps Hawkins won’t be too bad after all.

Hey, for the new prompt list, maybe 3 with Peter, Brad and MJ set in the Into the Black universe?
//Oooh… We’re gonna see what I can do here, this looks like FUN. Alright, I don’t this is going to happen in the story, but in order to include Brad in this alternate timeline, we’re going to establish him as one of the telepaths that they’re fighting. ;) Hope you like it!
What Happens Undercover
Summary: The Black Dahlia and Spider-Man make contact with one of the empath in a surveillance mission. But some thoughts are best kept under cover… If they’re willing to stay there, that is.
Characters: Michelle Jones x Peter Parker, Brad Davis, Tony Stark, Bucky Barnes, Steve Rodgers, Sam Wilson, Natasha Romanoff
Wordcount: 3,247
Warnings: Language, Jealousy, Badass!MJ
** For those who haven’t read the story, in Into the Black MJ has telepathic abilities which enable her to project emotions onto others. ;)
Tumblr media
“I could’ve handled this by myself, you know.”
Peter glances at MJ from across the darkened alleyway, the metallic eyes on his suit widening. “I know that,” he says quickly, moving to run a hand through his hair before remembering that he is wearing the black stealth suit. For some reason, since they’ve begun to go out in the field together, Peter’s been finding himself fidgeting more and more.
It probably has something to do with the piercing stare she is perfectly willing to fix on him at any given moment. Somehow she always manages to do the opposite of what Peter was expecting.
“I know that,” he said quickly. “I mean, I know you can handle yourself. But we tend to back each other up around here. Especially with undercover stuff.”
She arches an eyebrow at him, tipping her head slightly to the side as an old, broken AC unit crunches to life above them, causing both to shoot a glance in the direction of the abandoned apartment complex the noise is coming from. Her eyes return to him in a moment, gauging him for the truth of his words. She is seemingly satisfied as she turns her gaze back to the darkened street they are watching, shrugging.
“I’m pretty convincing,” she hums, her fingers skimming the rough brick beside them as her eyes scan the darkness. “You’re going to have a boring time babysitting, Parker.”
“Nothing would make me happier,” Peter sighs, shifting his weight. He’s still sore from his last sparring session with Natasha, though he’s getting better. He’s even been able to take her down once or twice, though never for more than an instant. Whatever type of spider he was bitten by is no match for a Black Widow– at least, not yet.
MJ notices him rotating his sore shoulder, and Peter could swear there is amusement in her eyes. “Or maybe I’ll let them catch onto me, just to give you something to do. It’s pretty fun to watch you get your ass handed to you.”
“See, most of the time I’d assume you’re screwing with me, but I’m a little concerned you mean that and I’m gonna end up getting a car thrown at me by one of these guys.”
“Good, you’re learning.”
Peter grins slightly beneath the mask, watching her smirk play with the edge of her mouth for a moment before turning to follow your gaze. “You really think they’re gonna let you join?” he asks carefully. “I mean, I trust you. It’s just that the last time I saw one of these telepaths up close, they didn’t seem interested in talking.”
“Normally, I’d be a little more cautious,” MJ admits, letting out a breath. Peter watches as she adjusts the dark leather jacket she wears over her black leggings, boots, and top. It’s different than the style of clothing she normally wears around the tower; if he had to guess, she’s been learning a thing or two from Natasha as well.
“But we’ve been flirting with this meeting for months, and-”
“Flirting?”
MJ shoots him an amused look at the interruption, raising an eyebrow. “Hacking, Peter. We’ve been hacking back and forth, testing each other’s limits a bit. Whoever it is, they’re good… And they know I am, too. That’s how they stumbled upon me, and that’s also how they weren’t able to draw me out until I wanted to be found.”
“Uh, right.” Peter doesn’t know why the word burst from his lips; he’s heard her use similar language to talk about her computer abilities before. It’s how Stark found her, and it’s why he’ll show up to their suite in the tower every so often to ask her opinion on coding. Peter’s never seen Tony do that with anyone else.
So why did that particular word bug him?
“In their eyes, I’ve established credibility. Whoever this group is, they’re careful, but they’re recruiting. And as far as they know, I’m a loner. If I can prove myself, I’m a prime candidate to join them. They’ve got skills, but they don’t have mine.”
“Thank God for that,” Peter hums, shooting her a grin. “I wouldn’t want to be against you in a fight.”
“Yeah, I’d wipe the floor with you.”
“Damn straight.”
The interaction leaves Peter feeling warm in the nighttime chill, and he lets out a breath as something moves on the edge of his vision. His eyes are extremely sharp, thanks to his suit’s enhancement paired with his super senses, and he can see someone moving a long way down the street. Soon, they’ll be here.
“Alright,” he murmurs, shooting her a look. “Be safe. I’ll be in your ear the whole time.”
“If you start doing that humming thing you do, I’ll put laxatives in your coffee for a week.”
“That was one time, MJ!”
“One time too many.”
With that, the Dahlia has slipped out of the alleyway and into the street, and Peter feels his entire body tense as he activates the cloaking tech that he and MJ have been working on with his suit, something Stark had been experimenting with based off of his team’s work in the company before all of this. His suit fades from view, along with the rest of him, leaving the alleyway looking empty. A sound barrier clicks into place around him as well, ensuring that he won’t be detected.
His heart is in his throat as he watches the approaching figure step into view, standing several yards away from MJ, whose back is currently turned to him. Her long, loose curls drift softly in the night breeze, and the ghostly glow of the single streetlamp that it still lit in this part of town causes the few wisps that drift around the crown of her head to appear like a burning halo.
The newcomer certainly does not miss the likeness.
The man– no, boy, Peter realizes– is silent for a moment, simply taking her in. He has short, dark hair that is just disheveled enough to make it look like he has run his fingers through it. He wears dark colors, as she does, and his features are bathed in the bronze glow of the lamp. His dark eyes don’t leave hers, and Peter can’t help but think that he looks like a superhero, too.
But Peter knows what he is, and he knows that the moment those dark eyes turn silver the very ground beneath them could split and swallow them whole.
MJ, to her credit, does not flinch. Her posture is as strong and unapologetic as ever, and Peter can’t help but think that she looks ready to pounce at a moment’s notice. It’s the way she looked when she entered the compound for the first time: like she has been fighting her whole life, and she isn’t afraid of another battle.
“It’s you.”
The man’s voice is quieter than Peter expected, softer. He nearly flinches as the telepath takes another step closer to MJ, studying her carefully. “You’re the one I’ve been contacting.”
“Let’s be clear on one thing: I’m the one who’s been doing the contacting.”
Her response is so purely MJ that Peter has to stop himself from catching his breath. Bold, prodding… She is testing his limits, his reaction. She did the same thing to Peter as they first got to know one another; still does, really.
The telepath shakes his head slightly, and a small grin slides onto his lips. It’s cautious, careful… But it’s genuine. Peter doesn’t know why he hates it so much.
“My mistake,” he responds smoothly, gaze unwavering. “You’re right. I wouldn’t have found you if you didn’t want to be found.”
MJ does not speak, though he is clearly waiting for her to. She is keeping her cards close, waiting for him to show his before she shows hers. Clever. She’s cleverer than him.
“Why did you?” The question from this man’s lips is quiet, earnest, and Peter doesn’t like the softness his tone has taken. These people are deceivers, he is certain of that. In order to cause the level of destruction they have, in order to recruit as many as have joined them, they have to be.
MJ knows this. Peter knows she does. But some part of him is scared she’ll forget, scared that she’ll experience a click with these people that she hasn’t felt with the Avengers. After all… These people’s abilities, aren’t they more like hers than Peter’s are?
What is there to prevent her from joining them, other than loyalty that has only recently been forged? His heart speeds up.
“They don’t understand people like us,” she replies simply. This time, MJ is the one who steps closer to him, broken glass and loose gravel shifting across the asphalt, displaced by the soles of her boots.
“They fear what they don’t understand. They fear me.”
Peter swallows. She’s not wrong… The distrustful looks from the Winter Soldier and from the Black Widow have followed her like her own shadow throughout the compound, and Wilson almost immediately steps to Bucky’s side when she enters a room. Even Cap, who has tried to remain as neutral as he can on her presence, glances to his best friend every time she enters the room, though he is covert about it.
They’re afraid of what she can do, and they tolerate her because they need her. If these people welcome her with open arms, what is there stopping her from walking into them?
“They don’t understand me, either,” murmurs the boy, soft enough that Peter is beginning to have a hard time hearing him over the wire. Peter is already trying to figure out the quietest way to get closer to them when the volume increases and a breath catches in his throat. She’s making sure he can still hear as the telepath continues.
“They don’t understand our aims, our goals, our society. But we’re going to get through to them, in the end.”
“That’s pretty optimistic for a member of a covert society that is currently #1 on every government’s radar.”
Peter’s heart hammers, and he is ready to leap to action at a moment’s notice if he needs to. However, over the wire, Peter hears soft laughter. Somehow, that only increases his urge to ball his hands into fists. He doesn’t like the way her shoulders relax slightly, the way that the man cocks his head like a hound dog, looking her up and down.
“Youre… Not what I thought you’d be.”
“Really.” It’s not a question, and as MJ mirrors his posture, tipping her chin up, Peter’s breath catches. “And what expectation did I fail to live up to?” She takes another step, testing the waters. In response, the empath closes the rest of the distance between them so that they’re nearly standing chest-to-chest.
“Not one. I just didn’t expect you to exceed them so easily.”
Peter’s heart in his throat, and it’s not because he fears for her safety. Not even close.
He wants to speak over the wire, to let her know that he’s here on standby if she sees a weapon. He knows she’s more than capable of handling it; that’s not why he has to resist the petty urge.
He wants her attention, and he wants it to be taken away from this tall, dark stranger.
The realization lands with all the ferocity of a blow. He cares what she thinks of him, cares whether or not she is by his side in the fight that is coming up. And, as startling as the realization is, he doesn’t just want her there as a sister in arms.
He wants her there because he’s grown to rely on her presence, and he longs to know whether she feels the same.
“No, no,” he mutters to himself, catching his breath. “Not now.”
Ahead, MJ’s shoulders stiffen slightly, and it is only then that Peter remembers that he is on a live wire. Shit. However, the movement is imperceptible, and she hides it by brushing her curls over one shoulder as she examines him.
“I’m not so sure I want to be a part of this, if you’re so easily impressed.”
The empath chuckles, but Peter could swear that his eyes have flickered to MJ’s neck, to the place it meets her shoulders. The place that she is holding just a bit of residual tension from her reaction to Peter’s voice in her ear. However, just when Peter is about to intervene, his eyes travel back to her face.
“You haven’t shown me what you have to offer us, though. At least, not outside of your skills with a laptop. Thanks, by the way. That virus you engineered was brilliant; I barely noticed it before it had fried my mainframe.”
“You’re welcome. Always a pleasure.”
This time, the empath is silent. So he is learning from MJ... She is going to have to give him what he wants, a demonstration of her abilities. And once she does, he’ll know... He’ll know so much about her, why she is the way she is. He’ll begin to understand her depth, her strength, the things that no one could possibly know without being let into her mind just a bit.
Peter isn’t ready for that, even though that’s not his decision to make. What if this empath has some way of manipulating that, what if he uses the information to take her down?
MJ’s words from before flash in his head as a memory, as clearly as though she had said them beside him. “I can handle myself.”
She trusts him; she’s shown him that by permitting him to be here, and in the small ways she’s let him catch glimpses of her over the past few months. MJ is okay. He just has to let her prove it.
Across from MJ, the empath’s eyes widen, and Peter knows she is doing it. Confusion enters his eyes, and then they glaze over, tranquil. Unseeing. Peace floods him, and he stumbles.
This is her window.
MJ catches his shoulders, supporting him. She takes the opportunity then, slipping the tracker underneath his shirt collar as her fingers grasp her shoulders, careful. The movement is so quick, so natural, that it would have been impossible for him to notice.
Right?
As she helps him stand, his eyes clear. The stranger’s eyes immediately meet hers, and for a moment Peter thinks that he might see suspicion in them. But there is no way for him to find any proof of whatever he might be thinking. The tracker has its own cloaking tech, and Peter and MJ have worked tirelessly with Stark to ensure that it will not show up on any security scans.
“Whoa,” he breathes, catching his breath as he looks at her. However, it takes him a moment to stand completely on his own, and that is another moment the two are touching, sharing his weight. Peter swallows and glances away, listening.
“Thank you,” he murmurs.
Peter doesn’t have to see his face to know that there is a wry smile twisting her lips. The tone of her voice only confirms it. “I did what I said I would. I mean what I say.”
The empath takes a breath, contemplating her a moment longer than Peter is comfortable with. Finally, he says, “The Council will be pleased. The next time we meet, we will discuss it.”
Next time. They’re in.
MJ, to her credit, does not let the triumph that Peter knows they both feel show in her body language. Instead, she just nods, and then she glances over her shoulder as though scanning for any potential threats. The perfect display of paranoia: enough to show this empath that she is discreet, but also that he will have to work for it to get her to trust him.
He’ll have to reveal more.
“You know where to find me... If I want to be found, that is.” She turns her head back to him just long enough to murmur, “Until we meet again.”
“I look forward to it.”
Peter does not like the tone of the stranger’s voice, nor does he like the way that the boy’s eyes linger on her for a moment before he turns. Then, swiftly, he slips away, turning into a nearby alleyway. Peter waits until he can no longer hear the sound of any footsteps to de-cloak his suit. Immediately, MJ has turned, an eyebrow raised.
“Not now?”
Peter winces, letting his mask come off as he looks at her. “I, um... The tech was glitching. I think it’s the update package I made last night, something must be wrong.”
MJ studies him for a moment longer, and just when Peter thinks he is about to get called out, she shrugs. “Well, it didn’t matter much. We’re in.”
Her eyes gleam, and Peter sees a flash of pride in them. He can’t stop the grin crossing his lips. “You’re in,” he corrects. “You did it.”
“You sound surprised.”
Peter’s grin fades, and he finds himself resisting the urge to step closer the way that the empath did, testing. He doesn’t need to emulate someone else... He and MJ have rapport. They’re friends.
He kind of wants to be more.
“I can swing us back.” He isn’t sure where the offer comes from, but as soon as it does his eyes widen. MJ raises an eyebrow, but Peter thinks that he sees her eyes widen a fraction of an inch.
“Really?”
“I mean, it-it would get us out of here quicker than the way we came,” he points out, swallowing. “And I can carry you, it wouldn’t be an issue, because I... Can carry buses.”
A smirk crosses her lips, and a wicked gleam enters her eyes as she begins to walk, not waiting for him to follow. “Are you showing off, Spider-Man?” She tosses a disbelieving smile over her shoulder as he hurries to catch up, shaking his head quickly.
“I-- no, I’m not! I’m not, I just...”
“You’re upset because you didn’t need to jump to my rescue.”
“No, I’m...”
Jealous.
The word nearly stops him short in the alleyway, and her eyes turn quizzical as he slows slightly beside her. “Yeah?” she presses, and for a moment her face loses all amusement. Her eyes are as piercing as blades as they take him in, missing nothing.
“Yeah, I am. You got me.”
A moment of tension, and then the smirk returns. “It’s okay, Parker. You’re not totally useless. You’re sticky.” The teasing is back to normal, and Peter lets out a breath.
“Don’t forget the buses.”
“Oh, right. Because you’re the only superhero who can bench press.”
“Hey, I beat the Winter Soldier in a fight once.”
“You did not-”
“I, like, stopped his fist.”
“Not the same thing.”
“Yeah? I’d like to see you do it.”
“Sounds good. When we get back, I’ll ask him to arm wrestle.”
Peter lets out a huff of laughter, and then they are back to their normal rhythm of banter. It’s relaxed, and Peter knows it. Everything is the way it’s supposed to be.
Except for the little, intrusive voice that has been planted in his head, the one that whispers things that he doesn’t want to examine now, things that are better thought out in the dark, where he doesn’t have to look at them straight-on.

12 Months
Alpha Peter x Omega Tony Disclaimer: I do not own any of these characters. The opinions here expressed are not my own but are a way of moving the story forwards. Please, remember this is a work of fiction about fiction characters. English is not my first language. ................................................................
The first 12 months of a child are the most critical ones. Tony and Peter have to learn so much.
..........................................................................................
June:
Morgan Happy Stark-Parker was born in the afternoon of June 3th, to parents Anthony Stark(O) and Peter B. Parker(A). She was 4 pounds and 8 ounces, had a patch of dark hair in her head and when she opened her eyes for the first time, she had Peter’s eyes. Her first name was unisex and they both found it cute and “Happy’ was a clear tribute to their dear friend. May was in the room with them when the baby came and helped giving the first bath and feeding for the first time. Peter could only cry during the first day and Tony could only glance wondering at the baby.
Every Avenger got to hold the baby and give congratulations. Nobody will ever admit it, but Fury’s eyes got all watery holding the new Stark baby. Because of Pepper’s mad skills with the media they didn’t had any troubles getting out of the maternity, but they knew they had to be open about this. The baby got so much snuggles and kisses (Tony had shaved to not hurt the child) and Peter and Tony holder her close to their hearts, making more skin-to-skin contact.
When Morgan was three days old, they took a candid, black and white picture of her tiny hands holding Tony’s pinky finger and they post it. Peter writes “a love I’ve never known before” under the photo and Tony caption is a simple heart. Those pictures reach one million likes in about 2 days and the media went crazy. The baby’s first sun bath is at the Penthouse terrace and when she’s 2 weeks old they go out in public for the first time and walk around Central Park with her.
May went with them to the Penthouse during the first week, she helped giving the first bath and helped them figuring out how to bottle feed her, burping and recognizing her cries. But as soon as she left, Peter and Tony discovered something interesting: Morgan was colic baby. She would wake up screaming in the middle of the night, and then she would shrink herself into a tiny ball and just be miserable until they could calm her down. She slept thru the day and was wide awake for most of the night. That really made them rethink the whole ‘family’ thing. The first time it happened, they got so scared that they rushed to the ER in search of help.
Morgan spender almost 7 diapers a day and was bottle-fed at least ten times. Tony and Peter slept between her naps (she slept almost 17 hours a day, but she woke up a lot during those times) and they barely got out of the house. They were lucky Peter was in vacation and that Tony decided to work only in September. And when June 19th, Father's Day came, they cried holding their daughter. It was difficult, not impossible
July:
Tony and Peter learned how to take care of the colic’s and slowly learned the baby’s sleep schedule. They mastered the art of holding her just right and of calming her. Peter would sing ‘In the wee small hours’ for her when she was awake in the early mornings. Tony finally went back to doing exercises, he couldn’t go back to being Iron Man just yet, but he could start losing the baby weight. It was weird, looking at his flaccid belly and realizing it would never be as it was before and that practically every being could be hotter than him right now in his Alpha’s eyes. Well, he considered himself lucky enough just for the fact he didn’t had the baby blues.
The Fourth of July was a memorable night, Tony always though that that one Fourth of July with his family was the most beautiful that he would see, until he spends that Fourth of July with his Alpha and newborn Morgan (she was one month old on the fourth of July). Tony and Peter spend that day with the Avengers and Ted and MJ, doing a barbecue in the Terrace.
They were worried that Morgan would get scarred of the fireworks noise, because she was napping when the dawn came, but that was the thing, Morgan was such a fuzzy child that when she slept, it was for real. And when the beautiful fireworks started to blown high in the sky, Morgan just opened those big brown eyes (oh yes, Morgan's eyes ware brown just like her fathers) and silently watched the sky light up. And Tony and Peter went back to their home smiling for each other.
August:
August came in as did the heat and they finally managed to leave the house more frequently. Tony’s Instagram feed was all about work, but they had dailies requests of interviews or photoshoots by magazines and newspapers. They said no to all of them, of course. Tony was dedicating himself everyday in the gym and kept a calorie track, he also didn’t drink alcohol for almost a year now. Peter was so proud that he made special breakfast and delivered it in Tony’s bed. The Spider-Man works now were in a good schedule and it was all light work. Peter seemed to be creating a separation anxiety, he went out alone and came back super-fast.
In middle August they decided to take a little vacation, their first vacation since ever, really. So, Pepper managed to book a whole trip with maximum security, in a way that nobody even knew hey went there at all. They spend 8 days in a beautiful cottage near the beaches in Carmel-by-the-sea, California. The whole place is faraway of the chaotic, energetic buzz of New York, and it’s a place where they can walk holding hands and with the stroller in front of them.
They buy groceries and cook in the beautiful kitchen, all while watching Morgan. She was 2 months old; she started the tummy time and she had lost all the baby fat and her tiny face was staring to get a more lady-like shape. She was much too young to enjoy the beautiful views, or the amazing food but her colic’s were starting to fade, and she was becoming less grumpy, which made going out with her more enjoyable. They did, however, took tons and tons of pictures of her, and videos and tiny frames of her near the ocean, specially when she gave her very first smile to Tony when he placed her near the ocean.
When they were back and safe at the Penthouse (Tony and Peter had tan marks all over), Peter quietly posted the picture he most loved yet: a selfie Tony took of them, with his arms around Peter while Morgan was in the kangaroo around his torso. The ocean was behind them and they had the biggest smiles ever. He wrote “Loving this newer life right now”.
The picture gets the insane number of 13 million likes in 3 days.
September
September was a very smooth month, Morgan was getting a consistent around her body, so she would take some toys and shake them, and she would smile so freaking much that she got herself the nickname "Smiles" from Steve and Natasha. She was introduced to good music by her parents, Tony would sing "Metallica" for her as a lullaby and Peter would sing Elvis Presley songs to her. At mornings, they would have a mix of 50-60 good rock'n roll as breakfast.
Tony went back to work, nothing heavy, just some tinkering in the lab and some adjust in the armor. Peter had to go back to MIT in the beginning of September and he once again struggled to be separated from Morgan and Tony. Since around Tony’s 8th month of pregnancy, they didn’t had sex yet. Peter kept saying he was fine with that, but Tony could smell Peter’s arouse sometimes in the morning and he was angry at himself for not functioning the way he was supposed to work. He couldn’t help it, his self-steam was so low, he didn’t believe that he would ever come back to his original shape.
Tony confessed this to Peter, about his body’s insecurity and about how nervous he was about MIT( Peter would be surrounded by beautiful, smart and young omegas, most likely they saw the Instagram photos and Peter would be a cute, young and family Alpha, just waiting to be taken). Peter made sure to assure Tony that he was more than okay how they were and when that didn’t work, Peter threw Tony into the mattress and fucked the doubts out of him. Their first time after the baby wasn’t sweet like on the early of their relationship, it was rough, it was almost 5 months of pent up stress and sexual frustration being translated into pulls and pushes, moans and groans and a spectacular orgasm for the both.
(Don’t you worry, May was babysitting)
October                           In mid October, the wind was starting to get cold, so the heating system had to be availed and changed. Happy invited them to have Morgan first Tricks’ Treat with them. So, them put a Strawberry costume and had dinner at the Jones. By the evening, they went to some houses and asked for candies for Morgan, but every house knows that Tony and Peter would eat every single of the sweets. Morgan is a healthy child, Dr. Scott says when she turns 4 months old, her sight, hearing and reflex are OK by the doctor and she has grown into a good weight and high. Tony posted a picture of a Strawberry costume and some candy at his worktable and the photo is a total hit.
Peter had MIT works now, so he didn’t go as Spider-Man as much. Morgan was such a happy child now; colic’s were almost forgotten. She gave her first laugh while she was in her highchair in Tony’s lab. DUM-E dropped a screwdriver in one plate, and she found it oddly amusing. She’s going to have a wicked sense of humor, that one Clint says once and Tony couldn’t agree more.
November
November 3th came and Morgan made 5 months, it was a beautiful and lazy Sunday. She already slept long periods at night, almost 6 hours at once (than she woke up and just needed attention). This week she learned a new trick: to sit all by herself. She also has been rolling around like a drunk person for almost two months now. Her gummy smile was everything to them.
On Sundays like this, Tony took care of Morgan for Peter’s studying time and during the week, Peter studied during Morgan's nap time. So Tony was sitting there, playing with Morgan while she was in their bed, making bubbling sounds for her, clapping hands for her and putting her over her tummy and well, being a child himself. When Tony heard something falling over in the lab and turned around and yelled: ‘Are you alright Peter?’
In this little window of time, Morgan rolled throw the bed and fell hard on the ground. Her piercing scream was heard from the entire Penthouse and Tony’s heartbeat went crazy. He lifted his daughter and tried to check for any injuries while also crying with her. Peter (he dropped a circuit table) heard it and reached them already so scared, he planned to take the baby to the hospital but in reality, Tony was sited on the ground, crying with Morgan, and Peter ended up hugging them until they calmed down. (They take her to the doctor eventually, but she wasn’t harmed).
December
Peter’s December vacation comes earlier than what they thought. There had clothes enough for themselves and had outfits for Morgan until she's one year old, but she didn't had outfits for a winter, so after they decided where to go for winter, they took some money and went to buy some clothes. Peter wanted to buy durable outfits, who could keep her warm for the entire winter, but Tony wanted cute coats, pink boots and a red hoodie who said "MERRY CHRISTMAS" so logically they fight for every single piece of clothes.
The one who seemed to be enjoying this was Morgan. At 6 months old she had made two discovers; one is that teeth coming out were bad and they should stay where they were, two is that was that her voice was beautiful. Morgan didn't talk but she bubbles all the time. She could have deep and thoughtful conversations with whoever was closer to her, in her bubbling language. She also recognizes her own name and all of hers nicknames and she also signed "yes" or "no" with her head.
Peter and Tony didn't know if she knew what those gests meant or if she learned that her parents would laugh at those gests. But well, Tony asked if Morgan wanted the red hoodie over the boring gray sweater that Peter wanted, and Morgan signed "yes" screaming loud her option. She also signed "yes" for four choices from Peter and two for Tony. They came back to their home with full begs and Tony bought a medium size Christmas Tree and put it on their TV room. They travelled to Norway to spend Christmas, they rented a big house and all the Avengers came. They passed the Christmas day with a beautiful meal, Christmas songs and all that jazz, and Santa Claus brought toys to all the children. They passed the New Year’s skiing and the kids (Clint’s kids) played with Morgan and was a perfect night.
Tony and Peter made sweet, sweet love on Christmas Eve and they smelled happy through the whole month. They posted a series of pictures of them near the Christmas tree and wrote “Merry Christmas and a happy New Year” under. It was all in a dream.
January
January was Morgan’s 7th month. Now she had 4 perfect teeth (which they had to brush everyday) and she just now learned how to crawl. Her favorite toy was a tiny Iron Man doll (Rhodes gave it to her). Tony and Peter had to stimulate her motor skills every day. She could also sleep 8 hours straight and make most of the sounds and her favorite food was smashed carrots and apple juice. Her dark hair had grown enough to make pig-tales on her, and her face was getting a more consistent shave day by day.
They came back from Norway in January 3th and the NY winter weather hadn’t been great. When Peter had to go back to school and suddenly Iron Man was needed, they reached a disagreement. Happy watched Morgan for that day, but they decided that maybe was time to find a daycare for Morgan. They took the top pick from their pre-made list and applied to put Morgan in there. The daycare was really exclusive, but they opened a place for Tony Stark’s daughter. So, in the end of January, Morgan went to her first day away from he’s parents.
Peter was so emotional in that day, he gave Morgan to the teacher; Miss Perry, but couldn't seem to stop cry all the way to MIT. Tony didn't cry but he did stay in the Daycare a little while after Peter went to away, just to be sure that Morgan was adapting. And Morgan was........ loving the Daycare!
While Peter cried holding her and Tony was all worried about "distance", Morgan looked at them the entire time with a face that said "Are you guys for real? ". She seemed to love the fact of more kids in the Daycare and she liked of all the teachers; Miss Perry, Miss Ashley and Miss Lettie. Of course, that she cried at noon, because an older child got her big plushie from her. At seven months, she could crow and roll around places and she could recognize usual voices and her own name but one thing that made she gave the "What? "face is that he’s teachers called her "baby" not "Morgan" as it should have been said.
At the end of the day, Tony picked her up and him and Peter made hamburgers for dinner. Peter was supper excited about his course, he now had new friends. Tony got so happy for him, and Morgan was so tired of the Daycare that she easily went to a deep sleep. And after that the Stark-Parkers felled into an easy routine.
February
At 8 months old, Morgan already loved her big plushie and could be a little possessive. She also learned that flus were bad. Actually, all the Stark-Parkers learned that flu's were bad. But when she got sick, they were desperate, thought Morgan's Doctor, Dr. Scott say that it was okay to have flu's at that age. So, he gave some light medicine and send very home again. The media finally seemed to catch them for the first time, paparazzi were following Peter one evening and Morgan looked really into the camera. That picture, the first picture of the Stark-Parker baby’s face was covered in at least 3 different tabloids. All these times they didn’t show Morgan’s face, too scared of what the media could do.
It was a real bummer, but they kept going with life. Almost every Omega that came across Peter seemed to want him, even when he was out with Morgan or in a date night with Tony, they would still give him his numbers. It just served for them to fight and to fuck like two teenagers.
March
Morgan was the smartest child in the planet! At least it was what Peter thought when, at 9 months old, Morgan said her first word. Since Morgan started to mumble some sounds, Peter and Tony had a competition of if Morgan would say "mommy" or "daddy" first.
But then, in a Sunday morning, Tony was making pancakes and some sweets for Peter and Morgan and they were listening "Jailhouse Rock" of Elvis Presley. Morgan was moving herself, dancing in the Highchair and making her usual mess with pancakes and apple juice and suddenly, while Peter was changing Presley music, the long word "Jail" was screamed by Morgan. That was enough to send them to the moon. After that they would have the camera always on, and Morgan learn that "Jail" was a big answer. She was also trying to stand alone.
April
Morgan gave her first steps in late April. Tony and Peter were sitting in some puffs on the balcony, with the records playing Tears and Fears, and Morgan was laying on Tony's stomach, with her belly for the air. She could sing words like "Jail, Juice, Ice" but she didn't say "Momma or Daddy" yet. Suddenly, rolled over off Tony's belly and started to crawl in Peter's direction. Peter was recording them with their camera, and he captures the exact moment when Morgan got up and gave her first steps towards her. They barely couldn't hold the shouts of joy. Tony felt his eyes watering. Just months before, the thought of having a child scared him so much and now here he was, watching his tiny daughter giving her first steps into the world. He watched as his Alpha jumped and shouted of joy while holding their baby and thought to himself that everything seemed right if it led him to this moment.
June
Tony and Peter started to plan a vacation travel to a lake in Arkansas, with Ned and MJ. On the morning of June 3th, Tony woke before Peter. He started quiet, staring at his beauty, he kissed his lips and got up real quietly. He enters in the yellow-lilac-green room, the morning sunshine going throw the window, lightning the crib. And there Morgan slept deep and in peace, she was so big now, her skin was white and soft, she had a brown hair and her eyes were a light shade of brown, not like Tony's eyes but pretty close.
Tony stayed for minutes there, just looking at her, when she first woke up, she rubbed her eyes sleepily and opened the biggest smile Tony have ever saw in her face.
"Good morning Morgan" said an amazed Tony, she looked at him and said a trainless "Morning Daddy". And just like that, Tony was crying. He couldn't believe that 1 year and 8 months before, he was alone, chasing monsters and running away from his problems. Now here he was.
Working 9 to 5, coming home to his Alpha, kid and a home. Morgan was looking at him like she couldn't get why he was crying, but she standup in the crib and lift her arms, asking to be picked up. He picks her and kissed her cheek and hugged her very tightly. Suck it, Peter! She got Morgan first steps but Tony got "Daddy" first.
"Happy birthday Morgan Happy Stark-Parker “said Tony, but only the word "birthday" got her attention.
'Cake? “she said, looking at him and clapping her hands. Birthday was cake for her, and Tony clapped his hands too, agreeing. She holds his face, pointing with her middle finger to "pay attention" to her and said "juice”, which meant breakfast first. Tony took her to their small kitchen and put her in the highchair and one bottle from the fridge. Tony was dressed in grey sweatpants and shirtless, showing off his flat tummy.
Tony wasn’t back at his original shape, but he was close now. Tony made some pancakes and made formula for Morgan, all listening to Asia. Morgan was making a mess with the pancakes. Peter came to the kitchen already dressed in a day outfit and kissed Morgan's entire face, so happy. After breakfast, Tony got dressed in light clothes and went to the city to make a bunch of things and Peter stayed to prepare the things.
Tony picked a pink-and-lilac medium cake, soda, yellow and purple balloons and red solo cups. Peter dressed Morgan in a pale green dress, with a white tiara holding her brown hair and dolls shoes. The house was filled with balloons, was cleaned and the barbecue was ready to be made. Clint and Laura brought their kids, they also brought two dresses, pink and purple and a pair of shoes. Ned, MJ, the Avengers, May and Happy (they were a thing now), even Fury and Hill came to give congratulations to baby Morgan.
The afternoon was passed with laughter, meat, soda, beer and kids running around.
When all of them were gone in the evening of Sunday, Morgan was where’d off, after eating so much cake and a good warm bath, she was so sleepy. She passes out around 8 p.m. After all of this, Tony and Peter set on green puffs, looking at their trashed apartment, drinking hot beers and making out like two teenagers.
Before they went to bed they passed at the nursery, to check her one last time. They got caught up watching her sleep peacefully, Tony reaches out and put her little hair out of her face so they could watch her better. Peter hugged Tony from behind, resting his chicks into his shoulder.
- We should have another one- Peter said quietly. Tony looks at him surprised.
- I think she’s happy being an only child.
- I think she would love to be a big sister- Peter faces Tony seriously- Lets have another one.
Tony couldn’t deny Peter anything, really.

Part Two of Barb Series: How Barb could have contributed to The Party
Tumblr media
Canon Evidence:
Here is the official guide to the series
Tumblr media
Here are some stuff about the teens from Season One
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So what have we learned about each of the teens? How have their after-school activities influenced their role in the show?
Steve
We are aware that Steve is very popular (especially with the ladies) and he is a jock who loves to party. One could likely attribute his name and privilege to him being a part of the Student Council and Future Business Leaders of America but the series manages to use his extracurriculars for benefit in the Party. He is a natural leader of the kids in Season 2 and 3, in Season 1 when he could have escaped he came back to help Nancy and Jonathan defeat the demogorgan with the use of a nail bat (baseball skills), along with Robin he goes so far to risk his life so the younger Dustin and Erica can escape from the Soviets, and he takes his friendship with and mentorship of Dustin very seriously.
Jonathan
This is where I learned that he was on the cross country team...surprising but makes sense once you think about it. Being able to move and run fast have been beneficial in the series, especially where monsters are concerned. We have also seen he was in the Photography Club and in the Yearbook committee, which served him very well (until he was fired) at Hawkins Post and helped provide a clue as to what happened to Barb the night of the party at Steve’s house. Also despite being a loner with his peers, it is implied he is not only close to little brother Will but also enough with Will’s friends to know what they’d be playing and about their walkie-talkies.
Nancy
She played volleyball and was a cheerleader (considering how fast Nancy is and how she can pummel into the loathsome Bruce so forcefully and her position on the latter team could have been her ticket into makeout sessions with Steve in Season 1). She was also on the Student Council, on the Honor Society, French Club, and Model UN when she wasn’t volunteering for Meals On Wheels and for her activities at her church (the Wheeler family is Presbyterian I guess) and as a writing tutor. Nancy is a natural leader, confident in her knowledge that she’s right, she can get Jonathan and Barb on board with things that they are reluctant to do (for better and for worse), she can multi task her grade average and monster hunting, she has a great interest in things outside her bubble and is intelligent enough to take on a different language and learn of another culture, she is loving and giving, she has a sense of duty, she somehow helped with the Elder Tree campaign (likely using her talents to help enrich her little brother’s game with his friends), she is an excellent writer and can master the language (look how she takes to Murray’s plan to “water down” the circumstances of Barb’s death with great ease and can understand his oddball ways), and she is open-minded. These are all traits that are useful for working in journalism (the exposure to different people, stories, cultures, events, environments) and for Party activities like hunting monsters or making Hawkins Lab pay for their crimes. Her leadership traits even come into play when she decides to dance with Dustin after he was cruelly rejected knowing that.
1. He had a crush on her.
2. This will make the mean girls get jealous as Nancy is an upperclasswoman (compared to them).
3. She knew him since he was in grade school and that he really needs someone who knows him and his potential for being a good boyfriend.
This leadership is even alluded to in Runaway Max when Max sees Nancy take a gun to fight of an attack of demdogs at the Byer’s home, noting how Nancy may appear to be delicate and scared but that Nancy looks ready and thrilled to take on a bloodthirsty monster, emphasizing her strength and Season 3 sees Max immediately go to Nancy when she argues with Mike about his treatment of El.
Where does that leave Barbara Holland?
What were her activities?
1. Varsity Softball. In contrast with her depiction in AU fanfics as of being an out of shape dork (likely because her actress is full-figured), Barb was in Varsity Softball. As in the more feminine version of baseball (like Steve) and she was Varsity, which I was told was advanced. She had to be in good physical shape for that sport and level, with the coordination and speed required. One could see her in a multitude of activities: hunting demogorgans and demdogs with a nail bat, dodging, outrunning “the bad men”, tossing fireworks at the Flayer monster, she would have even learned to use a gun and use her aim (maybe even shooting at Billy’s car with Nancy).
2. Class Treasurer/Key Club. While Treasurer is not up there with President, it is an important leadership position that oversees assets (maybe snacks for Eleven?) or at least Barb would be discussing economics with Erica, that should be fun. She and Steve were both in Key Club, which involves students working with charities and even abroad, with the main goal of leading and serving others. Traits that are needed for the Party and will be key for aiding the kids (or even join Joyce and Hop in their adventures).
3. Marching Band. Did Robin and Barb know each other? (Shippers start your engines!) Barb clearly knows how to be part of a group when necessary and can line up in formation (or “catch up” as Steve put it).
4. National Honor Society/Hawkins Public Library volunteer/Mathletes. Could she have known Planks Constant? Maybe have gotten involved between Dustin and Suzie? She is clearly very intelligent, hard-working, diligent, helpful, and she has connections to the library (assisted Dustin with checking out the books in Season 2?) Plus imagine the brainy back and forth in the Party.
5. Rotary Youth Exchange/Babysitting. She would have been great to take care of the kids with Steve, I can even imagine Steve introducing her to Robin (Shippers are you ready?) or hell her battling Billy at Joyce’s cabin or even at the Mall.
Any thoughts?

Melody
Tony and Nebula bonding over music and their sad tragic backstories while going back to earth, basically.
There’s not much he can do here for anyone, mostly himself since Nebula mostly doesn’t need food or air to survive, but since they’re fucking abandoned in space they might as well have a good sound track to go out on. Nebula was against the idea, claimed her species isn’t fond of music but relented when Tony told her that it makes his species grow better. Which doesn’t even make sense but Nebula clearly doesn’t know about humans because she buys it.
“If Quill listened to music all the time, and he did, why was he so small?” she asks, glaring at him suspiciously.
“Only half human,” Tony reminds her.
“Then why are you so small?” she asks and oh fuck off, that’s just rude. He’s not even that short, he is the average height for an American male and he’s annoyed with everyone calling him short. Its not his fault he hangs out with giants. Even Natasha is taller than him and she’s the second shortest on the team after him. Technically even Peter had been taller if only by an inch. He doesn’t want to think about Peter now though, not after...
“My father refused to let me listen to music,” he says and that’s not entirely untrue. He did hate Tony’s musical taste but fuck forties music its all fucking garbage. Classic rock is where it’s at.
“Your father abused you?” Nebula asks, surprised. For a moment Tony is too because he hadn’t disclosed that but then if music helps humans grow its a natural conclusion.
He nods, “seemed to enjoy it too.” Its not something he’s told anyone, but Thanos easily outdoes Howard for Shitty Father of the Year awards so. Howard was a piece of shit, an absolute bag of dicks but at least on some fucked up level he cared. Thanos fucking threw his daughter off a cliff, his favorite one according to Nebula, and that’s after slaughtering half her species when she was a kid. Total fuck head.
Nebula reaches out to him, settling a hand on his arm. “When we get back to earth, we’ll kill him,” she says and that might be the sweetest thing someone has ever said to him but he sighs.
“He’s already dead. Murdered actually. With my mom.” Fuck, that still hurts too but that’s the least of his worries now.
Nebula considers that for a moment, shrewd glare on his face in a way he used to find unnerving but now he’s used to it. “Good,” she says eventually. “But I’m sorry about your mother. I never had one.”
Yeah, he figured. “You get the chance to kill Thanos, do it,” he tells her. “No matter the cost.” There isn’t one greater than the one they’ve already paid.
*
Tony finds Nebula in the front of the pod nodding her head slowly to the music. Its painfully off beat, which kind of reminds him of Rhodey’s jokes about white people having no beat finding skills whatsoever, which Pepper kind of confirms even if Tony has no problems with it. He has no idea if either of them are alive. He’s sent messages of course, but no one has answered.
“This beat is pleasant,” Nebula tells him and that’s hilarious considering she’s not even nodding to it.
“Queen,” he tells her and she frowns. “The band’s name, it's Queen.”
She nods, “I like Queen.” They drift along all day, occasionally turning the engines on to coast them in the general direction of earth according to Nebula’s maps. There’s no hope of getting home and food has been low for some time. Oxygen is running low too so Tony doesn’t know why he keeps up pretenses.
Nebula’s rations are considerably smaller than his but he makes sure she eats anyway. If one of them have a chance at making it out its her, so she might as well keep strength. She tries to avoid eating but does when Tony pesters her enough to do it.
This is how they keep their days, measured by a standard of time Tony is unsure of given that earth years are more than likely different, until the oxygen finally hits its lowest point. They’ve been out of food for days. So he sends his final message back to earth and hopes Pepper or Rhodey or shit, even Steve gets it.
*
Nebula has been planning for this but it hurts nonetheless when she places Tony’s body in front of the vent. There’s barely any oxygen coming out of it but there will be enough to sustain him for another two hours while she prepares. She tries to work quick, Tony’s music playing through the pod. She has no idea if it’ll help and she’s certain he was lying about it helping humans grow. He’s still pitifully small.
Doesn’t matter now. She finds what she’s looking for, carrying it back to Tony and setting up the intravenous to get him food. She knows humans do this on earth, she’s asked. Tony hadn’t known her reason and he’s plenty happy to explain human science, rudimentary as it is. She watches him for a few moments, unsure if he’ll react well to food that his system wouldn’t be familiar with but he seems to do fine. She has no time to babysit at the moment so she resolves to check on him in an hour, when the oxygen will be close to critically low.
In the meantime she looks over the maps, certain she’s spotted their way out through a jump that should spit them out close enough to earth to travel there in time to save Tony. She plans their route until a sensor warns her that the oxygen is out and she swears, running off to Tony. When she gets to him its clear he’s having trouble breathing so she quickly slips the mask over his face and he relaxes as his breathing evens out. She hadn’t told him about the oxygen tanks because she hadn’t wanted to get his hopes up for a return home. His home, anyway. Nebula hasn’t ever had one. But she’s determined to ensure that if Tony dies he can at least do it on his own planet.
There are only two oxygen tanks and not enough food. Partially because Tony insisted that she eat no matter how many times she told him she didn’t need near as much food as he did. She’s used to eating only once a week, less sometimes, but Tony had been horrified at that eating schedule and made her at least something small every day. She has to admit that amount of food left her feeling less angry at everything but it still took up far too much food he could have saved for himself. Stupid human.
She goes back to her maps to finalize her plans before she turns on the engines.
*
Nebula spares Tony a glance, ensuring that he’s strapped in tightly before they make a series of jumps that may very well kill them both. She thought it was one or two jumps but its seven and going over five in a row isn’t recommended. But its this or die so she’s taking her chances. The alternative is death anyway so she might as well choose something slightly less likely to kill her and Tony.
She closes her eyes and pushes the pod forward into the first jump.
*
Rhodey gets the message from Tony, several actually, probably too late. “Is that old?” Pepper asks so he tries to find the date it was sent. He doesn’t get anything definitive, but.
“Earliest this could have come was six days ago,” he says softly. He doesn’t expect the pain to hit the way it does, like something his gripped his heart and squeezed. He thought he already made peace with Tony being dead but he’s wrong, he guesses, if it feels like his heart is literally being ripped from his chest.
Pepper lays her hand on his shoulder but he ignores it, unable to do anything but feel Tony’s loss at the moment.
*
When they hear the crash they all rush out. Steve looks prepared for a fight, probably has been since Bucky got dusted right in front of him. Pepper also looks ready to punch someone, which is out of character for her but Rhodey knows people deal with things in strange ways. And he... well, he wouldn’t want to be a threat at the moment because he’s got a lot of feelings and nothing to take them out of.
The pod is easy enough to find but the alien that steps out is a little harder to miss in the dust around the landing sight. But its what the alien has in its arms that interests Rhodey. The figure is human, that much is clear, but he can’t see the person’s face. For a moment its like he’s been given a shot of happiness, adrenaline surging through his veins as his mood lifts seemingly out of nowhere and he has to take a breath to steady himself from it. This is more than a shot in the dark. This is the Hail Mary of all Hail Mary’s. “Nebula,” he calls, remembering the alien’s name from Tony’s messages.
“How do you know my name?” the alien calls back and fuck, there’s no way. That message was old. Tony’s still gone, Nebula has just brought back a corpse.
“Do... do you have Tony with you?” he calls. Steve is giving him the side eye and so help him god if he tries to move in on Nebula Rhodey will fucking kill him himself. He needs to know Tony is actually dead, and he’s not risking Steve fucking Rogers screwing it up for him.
“He’s unconscious,” Nebula calls and that’s all he needs to know. He runs forward, ignoring Steve’s warning, and finds Tony as promised in Nebula’s arms. He takes Tony from them fast, unable to stop the tears but he doesn’t that that slow him down any.
*
Humans are strange, fickle creatures but they are loyal Nebula will give them that. Like dogs, a furry animal she has learned humans keep as companions. They’re also very loyal, so she’s been told. She think she offends both the darker and lighter skinned humans when she tells them humans are like space dogs. Its not her fault its true, though humans have much less hair and their faces are a lot different, obviously.
Their music also sounds better on the systems they made for it and the humans had been rather confused when she asked for a music player of some kind. She doesn’t care what they think though. She’s fixing her arm- she’d had to use a few parts from her body to reach earth, when Tony wakes up. He blinks a few times, frowns, and turns to the small box playing music. When he reaches out Nebula nearly jabs him in the cheek with the screw driver she’s holding.
“Change the song and I will stab you with this,” she tells him.
Tony sighs and sits back in bed. “Nebs, I know you like Bohemian Rhapsody but we’ve heard it a billion times. Can’t we listen to another Queen song?” he asks.
“Find one better than this one and maybe,” she tells him.
Tony lets out another sigh. “Nebs, there isn’t another song on earth that’s better than this song. We Will Rock You is pretty good though,” he tells her.
“Yeah, she’s not going to let you change it, we’ve tried. Welcome back to the land of the living,” the dark skinned human tells Tony from the door way. The lighter skinned one, she’s paler than Tony even, sticks her head around the other human’s body to look into the room.
“Is there a reason you two are all the way over there?” Tony asks and the darker skinned human rolls his eyes.
“She won’t let us in and believe me we have tried.”
“She called us space dogs,” the paler human says, apparently offended about this. Not. Her. Problem.
Tony starts laughing, surprising his human companions. “Yeah, she’s got poor socialization skills. If you met her father you’d understand. Come in,” he tells them and Nebula stands up, half crouched over Tony, who looks surprised by this.
“I don’t know if they have diseases, that one has weird hair!” Nebula says, gesturing to the pale human. There’s another human with that pale orangey hair around here and Nebula doesn’t like that human either. That’s not a natural color.
“Jesus Nebula, they don’t have diseases and yeah Pep’s a red head. Genetically rare for humans, but perfectly fine. And Rhodey’s probably cleaner than me,” he adds.
“Uh, definitely cleaner than you Tones. I don’t take needless risks with bots cleaning my wounds like you do,” he points out.
*
Tony has no fucking clue how Nebula managed to save his ass, even after looking at her insane plan that never should have worked. The math on it was impossible but he happens to know a lot of determination can make things more possible than one might expect.
He does, however, know he owes her so when he gathers what remains of the Avengers its to fucking kill Thanos.

Hard Feelings Part 2
Pairings: Bucky x reader
Warnings: None
A/N: inspiration hit me heavy for this update, and I think I’ve finally decided on the direction I wanna take this series. I hope you like this one! A bit angsty toward the end, but I promise the fluff will be rolling in soon Until then, enjoy!
Part 1
-
Aside from the very specific case of Bucky Barnes, you seemed to be excelling at making friends in the tower. Steve had taken the initiative to call a group meeting among all of the people residing in the tower for the time being in order to introduce you, which pretty much meant that you were now acquainted with all of the Avengers. And to think you’d been star struck when you had met Steve just a little earlier that morning.
“So which one of us are you here to babysit?” Clint, who was reclining against Natasha’s side, lightheartedly questioned you. “It’s not me, is it? I’d hate to be on Fury’s shortlist of ‘misbehaved individuals’.”
“Sorry to say, but I think everyone in this tower is on that list,” Tony Stark quipped, walking over from the counter he’d been standing at for several moments and depositing a glass of water into your hands. You smiled at him in thanks, sipped from it for a moment, and then set it down on the coffee table in front of where you and Steve were sat.
Sam Wilson, who was perched on the arm of the sofa beside you, scoffed. “Speak for yourself, tin man. My behavioral reputation is spotless.”
In an effort to put a stop to the bickering, Steve raised his voice above all of the chatter. You smirked a bit, unable to keep from chuckling at the fact he seemed like a father chastising his misbehaved children. “Y/n isn’t here to babysit anyone, guys, come on. She’s been assigned to Bucky’s, uh, therapy detail.” Conveniently, Bucky happened to be the only person missing from the room; you got the sense that hadn’t been an accident on his part.
At the sound of Steve’s words, a hush had fallen over the large group before you. Wanda, her wide eyes glancing at you in sympathy, sheepishly tucked a strand of hair behind her ear; the main emotion you were currently getting from her seemed to be one of sympathetic surprise. Bruce Banner’s predominant emotion was one of outright panic, and the rest of the group’s feelings seemed to complement the tone.
Well, everyone’s emotions aside from Tony’s.
“Rest in fucking pieces, you poor soul,” he muttered from under his breath, unable to help the guffaw which escaped him directly after. “Fury seriously didn’t get the memo after the last one?” That earned a couple of snickers from the group around you, and you found your interest piqued in a morbid fashion.
As an agent of SHIELD, you had obviously heard some details about what happened to those who were assigned to Winter Soldier duty; it was why you’d been so hesitant to agree to this so called promotion in the first place. Nobody would say so out in the open, but everyone regarded being given this particular assignment as a form of quiet punishment from Nick Fury. There had been many days when you and your colleagues had sat and laughed together at your lunch time, discussing the small tidbits of gossip and knowledge you had all managed to glean from your superior officers. Lena Vasquez, your closest friend, had been the one who always managed to gain the most information, and somehow always won the bets you and the rest of your group would place on how long the next psychologist who was sent to stay at the tower would last. As hard as you tried, though, you couldn’t seem to place who the last assignment had been, or what had become of them.
“Oh my god,” Natasha laughed. That was a little weird to see; each time you’d pictured Natasha Romanov, you thought of her has someone to be feared. Of course, she was definitely intimidating, even if she was currently casually cuddling Clint. It was just, on the list of things you had expected to witness in your life, seeing Black Widow in blue jeans and a messy ponytail hadn’t been something you’d deigned to pencil on. “Morgan was here for like what, three days?”
“Yeah, and then Farrah Fawcett Hairspray threw the biggest tantrum this side of the country,” Tony muttered. The irritation which must have been tied to the memory bubbled up to the surface, extending out from Tony’s words and seeping into your skin. “Took me three weeks to get that glass replaced. Insurance doesn’t exactly cover somebody getting thrown from a 93rd story picture window; that shit came out of my pocket.”
“Your name is plastered on buildings all over the city, Stark,” Sam quipped. “I’m sure you can afford a damn window.” You might’ve laughed at all of the chuckling and grumbling going on by everyone around you if you weren’t suddenly so concerned for your own survival, and at the casual mention of an attempted murder.
“He… he threw someone out of a window?” What had you done? What had you done to make the universe become this dead set against you? Scratch that, actually; who the hell had outed you to Fury and when was going to be your next available chance to sock them in the jaw?
“It was fine,” Clint offered, the fact that he was attempting to do damage control coming across as mildly insulting, considering the fact that he was still laughing. “The guy only fell one story, okay? The balcony broke his fall; Buck knew it would.”
“Great,” you muttered, blinking and raising your eyebrows. “Glad to know I’m safe, at least.”
“I mean,” Wanda chimed, staring off thoughtfully. “No matter what, it could never be as bad as the time that Bucky blew up—”
“Okay, that’s enough,” Steve interjected, his embarrassment rising, punctuated with a spike of stress. The flavor of it left a sour taste in your mouth. “You guys are gonna scare her off, and that’s the exact last thing I need.” Offering you a tentative glance, Steve placed a hand on your shoulder to provide you with some sense of comfort. “I know it sounds bad, but you’re the first agent with a superpower to be assigned. And I promise I’m not gonna let Bucky throw you out of a window, if that helps at all.”
Confusion suddenly took over as the predominant emotion in the room, in addition to wonder and curiosity. You would need to tune out of your gift soon, if the emotions of the others kept swaying back and forth so drastically. That was something you had learned to do at a young age, and it was a skill necessary to maintaining your sanity. Your emotions were something you could easily get into check, but the heightened sympathy your power forced you to hold for others and their feelings possessed the ability to send you over a mental cliff, which was something you weren’t interested in in the slightest.
“Whoa, wait,” Bruce began, “you’re a super?” When you nodded, he looked around at the others in the room, pleasant surprise etched onto his features. “I mean, Bucky hasn’t had anyone with powers try to treat him since Wanda.”
“Because powers that can manipulate mental aspects are hard to come by,” Steve agreed. “Yeah, trust me, I know. That’s why I’m hoping Bucky won’t be so quick to turn y/n away, like he did with all the others.”
You shook your head, a humorless laugh escaping you. When Steve glanced at where you sat beside him, you said, “You remember what he said this morning, right? Said he didn’t care who I was or what my powers were, then called me a mood ring, and pretty much told me to go fuck myself after that. Guy definitely already wants me gone, Steve.”
“That’s kind of just how Bucky is with new people?” Sam tossed out.
“Correction,” Tony quipped, taking a swig from the glass of scotch he’d acquired while pouring your water. “That’s how he is with everybody.”
“No, I’m pretty sure he just… doesn’t like you,” Wanda chuckled.  Maybe it was because Wanda was the closest to you in age, but you liked her. She seemed like someone you’d be able to hang out with, maybe watch stupid movies and stay up entirely too late with.
Tony waved his hand, flippantly dismissing the words. “Semantics, Maximoff. What I wanna know is what this kick ass power is. What do you have, y/n? Mind reading? Super guilt tripping? Or, wait, you said Barnes called you a mood ring? Holy shit, do you change color?”
You laughed, shaking your head in pure amusement. You got the feeling you would at least be able to enjoy your time in Avengers Tower, no matter how long or short a period that was fated to be. “No, I don’t, but I…” You were suddenly very conscious of the many eyes focused on you, and you involuntarily blushed. God, why were you embarrassed? You’d never spoken about your power out loud or so casually before, sure, but this was ridiculous. “I can read emotions, and I can also influence them. It works better if I’m able to touch the person who I’m working with, but it’s not actually necessary. Like, uh…” You allowed yourself to tune into the emotional climate of the room a bit more thoroughly, latching on to the first set that caught your attention.
Tony.
“What’s the project you’re working on right now, Tony?” you asked him, tilting your head to the side. “You’ve got a lot of excitement going on in your head, and it feels like it’s linked to creativity. You feel annoyed about it too, though, so I’m assuming it failed a test of some kind? But, then, it’s like… oh, okay I see. Your prototype failed, so you built a new one. That one failed too, but you’re pretty sure you have a workaround. Is that why you were all annoyed and uppity when you walked in here? Steve called the meeting and it interrupted you fixing the prototype of whatever you’re working on?”
Tony’s jaw dropped, genuinely caught off guard and impressed. “Did you just read my mind? You’re sure you aren’t actually a mind reader? Rogers, am I being punk’d?”
You’d spent the rest of the afternoon entertaining everyone, reading their emotions separately and announcing to the group what was on each individual’s mind. They all seemed to be getting a kick out of it, and for that you were grateful. Part of the reason you’d never been willing to share your power with anyone was because you’d been deathly afraid of judgement, of being called a freak of nature. That was less likely while working in a place like SHIELD, of course, but you found it difficult to let go of your worries.
If anything, you were just happy to know that you had friends in Avengers Tower, even if the one person who was your entire reason for being there seemed to want absolutely nothing to do with you.
Whatever. You would deal with it later.
It was about your third night in the tower that you’d begun taking part in some pretty risky business, and you were sure that your well being now depended on your ability to keep said risky business a secret.
Because if Bucky found out what you were getting up to, if he even suspected you in the slightest, you were pretty sure he would do a lot worse than throw you out of the 93rd story window.
It had started that morning, when you’d walked over to Bucky’s door and rapped a decisive knock againt the wood. You knew he was awake, because you had heard him come and go from his room several times while taking your morning shower, and you knew he was in his room now because you could sense his familiar emotions, only becoming more and more potent as he neared the door to open it. Annoyance, irritation, and the tiniest drop of fear which had been present the very first time you had met him. That was, perhaps, the part about Bucky which perplexed you the most. The man could probably bench twice your bodyweight without a second thought; what reason did her have to be frightened of you?
The door was wrenched open before you could ponder about it much further, revealing Bucky’s scowling face. He was clad in sweats and a plain black tee, but the simplicity of the clothing did nothing to disservice his physical attributes, but that wasn’t really surprising. Everyone in the tower seemed to be unfairly blessed in the looks department, though Bucky was especially. Everything about him was sharp angles and muscle, topped off with a voice that would probably make you weak in the knees if it weren’t constantly being used to insult your character.
“What are you staring at?” Bucky demanded, voice breaking you from your reverie. The metal of his left arm gleamed in the light of the hallway, whirring quietly as he shifted to lean his weight against it, and you blinked several times. You couldn’t even defend yourself against him because you had, in fact, been staring.
“Um, s-sorry,” you stuttered. Oh, damn it all. You’d been so confident when you’d strode over to his door, so sure of what you wanted to say. Why were your words failing you now? “Good morning, by the way.”
“Not anymore,” he muttered under his breath.
You let it go, not really having the wherewithal to be witty at the moment. “Listen, I was wondering if maybe we could try, like, an emotion reading today? It won’t take long, and I’m gonna have to start sending Fury updates any day now, so I just figured—”
“No,” Bucky told you plainly.
Not one to give up easily, you tried again. “Look, I know it’s sort of an uncomfortable situation for you, and believe me, I get it, but I really need to—”
He cut you off, and you wondered if Bucky ever let anyone finish a sentence before going completely postal on them, or if this behavior was specifically for you. “You don’t understand shit,” he barked at you, looking for all the world like there was no one he hated more. “You think just because you can tell if someone’s happy or sad that you somehow understand what I’ve been through? Uh uh. No dice, sweetheart. I already told you we weren’t playing this fucking game. Stay in this tower for as long as you like, but you’re wasting your time if you’re hoping to get anything out of me.”
Overwhelmed and unsure of what to do, you dropped your eyes to the floor and tried to ignore the embarrassment in your chest. That was something Bucky was good at, it seemed. Making you feel embarrassed. “I’m just… trying to help you,” you offered lamely. “I’m only here to help you.”
“And I didn’t ask for it,” Bucky shot back. “I don’t want it. So why don’t you do the both of us a favor and stop trying to make yourself useful, okay? Because it’s not working.”
The hostility rolling off of Bucky was so thick and potent that you could’ve choked on it. He meant what he was saying about not wanting help; he was being sincere. This assignment really was just the most impossible one, wasn’t it?
You shook your head, unsure of what to say. You glanced up at Bucky, decided that was a mistake, then began to turn your back to him, content to walk back to your room. “Guess I’ll just go fuck myself then,” you muttered sarcastically, still in shock at the sheer hostility rolling off the man behind you.
“Yeah, why don’t you?” he egged you on. “Least that way one of us gets to be a little less than miserable.” The slamming of his bedroom door let you know that he’d removed himself from the situation.
For Christ’s sake. How were you meant to help someone who clearly didn’t want your help and couldn’t manage to be civil to you for more than five seconds?
“Give it time,” Wanda had advised you later on in the day as the two of you ate lunch together. “Bucky will come around to you eventually. He wasn’t thrilled about me rooting around in his head at first either, for the few weeks that we tried to go that route.”
“Yeah, but you’re his friend,” you’d told her, shrugging a shoulder. “Even if he wasn’t happy about it, he didn’t hate your guts.”
“He doesn’t hate you, y/n,” she repeated. It was sweet of her to say, but she couldn’t feel what you did. She might have a guess at Bucky’s emotions, but you had a concrete handle on them, and they weren’t pleasant.
You’d gone about the rest of your day normally. Or, as normally as you could, having to adjust to living in the tower with a number of new roommates. They were all lovely people, save for one very stubborn super soldier with a disregard for your feelings, but you were beginning to feel disenchanted. Was the field agent position really worth all of this? Fury had basically said you would be staying in this tower as long as it took to correct Bucky’s emotional issues, and it was a testament to how awful you were doing that you weren’t even sure what exactly those issues were. Bucky had declared more than once that you really shouldn’t bother to hold your breath, because he wasn’t going to entertain you.
Caught between a rock and a hard place, it seemed.
You had retired to your room early that night, not very inclined to people please for the time being. Distantly you felt everyone’s individual emotions from the few floors separating you, but eventually you tuned them all out, ignoring reality in favor of reading a few chapters in the book you’d picked up last week. Only, a few chapters had quickly become many, minutes had turned to hours, and suddenly you had read the ending sentence of the last page and all you could see when you looked out the window of your bedroom was the inky blackness of the night sky.
“Hey Jarvis?” you called out, yawning and stretching your arms toward the ceiling. “What time is it?” Had to be late; you could feel the sleep dust forming in your eyes.
“Half past one, ma’am,” Jarvis answered immediately.
“Thanks,” you murmured. Okay, so a little later for you than usual, but it wasn’t like you had any plans tomorrow morning. You stood, stripping off the clothing you’d been wearing and switching them out for pajamas. You’d been just about ready to ask Jarvis to switch the lights off as you crawled into bed when something gave you pause.
Reading your book had been a good way to tune out everyone else in the tower and their emotions, but now that you were no longer distracted you were feeling… agony. Terror. Desperation. And just as you were about to write it off as you simply being tired, as your mind and ability playing tricks on you, you heard it. Plain as day, you heard it.
Someone was screaming.
Without thinking practically or having the sense to grab a weapon in the event that you would need to defend yourself, you raced to your bedroom door and threw it open, the strength of the complete and utter pain growing tenfold as you did so. Listening intently, you concentrated, trying to pinpoint the location of the screams and bristling as your body and mind recognized the direction in which both the noise and the pain extended from.
Bucky’s room. It was all coming from Bucky’s room.
You ran to his door, unsure of what exactly you should expect but completely unwilling to let Bucky fend off whatever was causing him this amount of harm by himself. The quality of emotions, the taste and tang staining your tongue, the essence of what Bucky was projecting? It felt like he was being murdered. It felt like he was dying. Bucky might not have been the nicest to you and you might have had only the most basic form of self defense training, but you’d be damned if you condemned him to suffer through whatever was trying to kill him alone. You could at least assess the situation and have Jarvis call for backup. Ruching to throw the door open without having time to work up the courage to do it, you burst into Bucky’s room with shaking hands and a heart full of anxiety, unsure of what to expect. Only… what you could see made no sense whatsoever.
Bucky was still screaming, still in enough agony to prompt your emotion sensors to believe that he was on the verge of death, but he wasn’t being attacked or physically harmed at all. He was laying in his bed shirtless, entangled in the comforter and thrashing wildly, the dim illumination from the window casting just enough light into the room to allow you to see the pure fright and pain contorting his face. Bucky wasn’t being attacked. Bucky wasn’t dying.
Bucky was dreaming.
Unsure of what to do and unable to help yourself, you walked forward until you stood just a step from the edge of his bed, the volume of his screams growing louder and the intensity of his pain becoming almost unbearable. He was moving, struggling, fighting whatever it was that terrified him so. This wasn’t… no, this wasn’t okay. In all your time as an emotional telepath, you hadn’t ever felt anything this specific or concentrated. It was like each of your nerves was being individually electrocuted at the highest wattage possible, your mouth running dry and your hands beginning to shake. Nobody should have had the capacity to feel this much grief and hurt. It was debilitating; it was life ending.
You weren’t able to stop yourself as you reached forward, pressing a palm to Bucky’s chest as gently as you could. His muscles had tensed at the contact, but you’d subconsciously been prepared for it. You weren’t sure what it was you were doing, but you were sure that he couldn’t be left to feel that way anymore. Not if he wanted to survive. The anger had to be pushed out, the hurt and the shock and the discomforting presence of cold, all of it needed to go. Bucky needed happiness, not pain. He needed compassion, not torture. He needed warmth, not iciness. He needed love, not terror.
And so, you gave him what he needed and took what he didn’t.
It took a few moments, but it had worked nonetheless. His thrashing had been first to cease, and his screaming followed quickly after. That heartbreakingly expressive face had smoothed into content, and the blue tone which had been corrupting all of Bucky’s unconscious emotions had faded out, a bright pinkish red now coloring them. He was still and calm now, and you weren’t sure where he was in his dream now, but you hoped with all your might that it was somewhere sunshine filled and comforting.
Cautiously removing your hand from Bucky and waiting a moment to make sure he wouldn’t need you to influence him again, you marveled at what you had just done. You didn’t believe in making people feel what you wanted them to against their will, not unless it was an emergency of some kind. You figured it had to be some form of immoral. But, what Bucky had just been feeling, the very miniscule amount of what you’d picked up from it? That seemed like a pretty intense emergency.
Fuck, did he always feel those things while he was sleeping?
Once it became clear that Bucky’s dreams would hold nothing but serenity for the rest of the night, you slowly turned, exited his room, and returned to yours, unable to shake the magnitude of what you had just been made to feel. You crawled into bed, asked Jarvis to turn the lights off for you, and laid there, hugging yourself as you continued to play over what you had just felt and done.
“Jarvis?” you whispered after a few moments of laying in the dark.
“Yes, Miss?”
You were beginning to hiccup, and you wondered if Jarvis understood what crying was and what it meant. “Will you… will you let me know if Bucky starts having a  nightmare again, please?”
“Yes, Miss,” came his simple reply.
“Will you let me know every night, if he has a nightmare?” you clarified, eyes burning with the tears brimming in them. “You, um, you can’t let him know.”
A pause.
Then, “Yes, Miss.”
“Thanks,” you choked out.
You didn’t remember falling asleep, but you were sure you’d done it sobbing.

**civilian name:** Francis ~~Barton~~ Cooper **hero name:** Sparrowhawk **played by:** Jack **player pronouns:** she/her **player age:** 26 **source material:** based off the little amount of comics resources available
**age:** 19 **height:** 6′ **weight:** 193 lbs **character bio:**  Francis is the son of Clint Barton and Bobbi Morse. From a young age, he’s enjoyed archery, and according to his father, he’s been training with a bow since before he could even walk. When he was old enough, he was taught how to fight by both parents, in different techniques. He didn’t understand the concept of heroes, or that his parents were until he saw Hawkeye on the news and realized that he’d seen his father in that very outfit a few times. When he saw his father next, he asked him about Hawkeye, and Clint explained what heroes were and how he and Bobbi helped people in need. He made Francis promise he wouldn’t tell anyone, because some people would take advantage of a hero’s family to get what they wanted. That wasn’t very hard to do, as Francis didn’t have many friends. His parents often had their friends over, and aside from Aunt Tasha, there was only one other he recognized the first time seeing them: Tony Stark, who he first met when he was 7. He was 10 before he realized Tony was Iron Man, when he saw the man without a shirt and couldn’t help but stare at the arc reactor in his chest. Both Clint and Bobbi tried to shoo Francis away because they thought he was being rude, but Tony knelt in front of him and explained to him that the reactor was keeping him alive after one of his bombs exploded and embedded shrapnel in his chest. Tony even let him touch the device, and Francis was surprised at how warm it was. After that, Tony would bring him small gifts every time he visited, and before long, Francis had an array of video games and other tech, some of which wasn’t even available to the public. Aunt Tasha would visit more often than the others, and sometimes she’d babysit him while his parents were away. The others, he didn’t know, but got used to seeing their faces around the house. Steve Rogers, Maria Hill, Phil Coulson, Thor, Bruce Banner, and once or twice, a guy called Nick Fury. For the most part, Francis would stay off to one side of the room and play one of his handheld games while they were over, but sometimes he’d go talk to them. Once, a man named James visited, and his was an unusual case. He asked to stay the night and asked Clint not to tell Steve he was there. Francis didn’t understand, but he was fascinated by the guy’s arm. One arm was normal, but the other one was metal and looked, quite frankly, like something Tony Stark might have built. Unlike Tony, however, James didn’t seem at all interested in explaining how he got his arm. Around the age of 10, he started to see his parents on the news more often, and he started to pay more attention to the news, trying to get more glimpses of his parents or other heroes. His favorite to hear about was Captain America. He wasn’t entirely sure why, since all the heroes were on the same side and doing pretty much the same hero-ing, but the Captain just stood out to him. He was 12 when he realized that all his parent’s friends who came to visit were the heroes he looked up to and saw on the news, and that he’d been given a secret glimpse into the life of heroes without even realizing it. He had asked his father if he could meet Captain America, and that seemed to amuse his father for a reason he never explained(but Francis realized later). Clint had agreed to let Francis meet Captain America, and the next day, Clint took him in to work with him. They went out to a large ship on the water and Clint took him to a room that overlooked a larger room below, where Francis could see Captain America fighting a bunch of androids. Clint told him the Captain was training, and Francis watched and waited. When Captain America finished training, Clint took Francis down to the training room and explained to Captain America that his son wanted to meet him. The Captain smiled and held his hand out to Francis, who nervously took it and shook it. When they broke the handshake, Captain America reached up and removed the cowl on his head, and Francis immediately recognized Steve. He didn’t know how he looked when he realized, but Clint started to laugh. After that, Francis started to put two and two together and try to figure out who else of his parent’s friends were heroes. While growing up, he showed more interest in the bow like his father, but he still trained with all the weapons both his parents put in front of him. He thought it was normal, that all kids did this, and he didn’t fully understand that his parents were training him so that he would be prepared for anything, and able to defend himself when he grew up, even though neither of them really wanted him to go into the hero business. By the time he was 16, he was almost as good with a bow as his father was, and though he was exceptional with the staff, he wasn’t quite as good with it as his mother was. Shortly after his 17th birthday, his entire life was turned upside down. His parents were on a mission that went horribly wrong, and they were reportedly killed in action, leaving Francis without both parents. Through some mix of grieving and determination, he searched endlessly until he found something that would send him back in time. He had to save his parents. He intended to go back to the mission they were killed on, but the device malfunctioned, and sent him further. Upon arrival, it shattered, leaving him stuck in a time before he was even born. **notable skills:** ● Master Archer: He was trained by his father to become a master archer specializing in the use of regular bows, longbows, compound bows, and crossbows with near-perfect accuracy. He is capable of firing multiple arrows at a single target in a few seconds, hitting multiple targets in a few quick strokes, and directly hit small targets in the greatest of distances. He practices a minimum of an hour a day to keep his skills honed. ● Expert Marksman: He possesses very keen eyesight, and his accuracy is virtually unerring; he was trained in his youth by his father with throwing blades, balls, bolas, and boomerangs. He now has near-perfect precision with any aimed or thrown weapon. He can hurl objects with extreme speed and accuracy, both in direct aim and complicated rebounds/interactions. ● Skilled Martial Artist: Francis is an excellent martial artist, having been trained by his father and mother in various forms. He is skilled in multiple martial arts and several forms of hand-to-hand combat, including kung fu and Tae Kwon Do. ● Weapons Proficiency: Although he is not known to use melee weapons, Francis’s incredible reflexes and hand-eye coordination allow him to easily master most weapons. He is especially skilled with knives and staffs, but can use most weapons in a pinch. ● Peak Human Conditioning: Due to beginning his training at such a young age, Francis possesses exceptional human strength, endurance, and stamina, far above people his own age and most people older than him. He also has eyesight well above most people, something that he puts to well use as an archer, and something that he got from his father. He also has exceptional hearing, and can hear anyone trying to sneak up on him. ● Expert Acrobat: Training as an aerialist and acrobat makes him capable of numerous complex acrobatic maneuvers. He is athletic, with very good reflexes and agility, both of which prove very useful on a near-daily basis.
**weapons:** ● Hawkeye’s custom bow, though his version is different than Clint’s in present time, due to a 20-ish year difference. ● Mockingbird’s battles staves, two hollow steel-alloy poles or battles staves, each extending up to four feet. These staves can be used as fighting clubs; or screwed together to be used as a bo-staff or javelin **list three of their positive traits:** 1.) Strong-willed, not willing to back down from what he believes in 2.) Fiercely loyal, willing to do anything for his friends 3.) Driven by his parents memories and desire to  **list three of their negative traits:** 1.) Depressed, but tries to pretend he isn’t 2.) Short temper 3.) Secretive
**616.5 Headcanons:**  -Francis isn’t deaf, but he learned asl from his father and he uses it sometimes to pretend he can’t hear what someone’s saying -He was born in 2021 and came to the past from the year 2040

Author: Lee
You thought you'd be the lucky one. Between you and your sister. Infertility has run in your family for centuries, only few being able to reproduce. It was a trait mainly expressed with the biological females in your bloodline. You mother was able to have three children with no problem. Your older brother was able to have kids, your older sister as well. You, however, had just learned the soul crushing news.
You were sitting in the passenger seat of your car, numb to the world as your husband held your hand. You had met him at a time when he wasn't himself. His name was James Buchanan Barnes, but he goes by Bucky. You met him when he was the Winter Soldier, just before S.H.I.E.L.D and H.Y.D.R.A were taken down. You had been helping Natasha, Steve, and Sam.
You remember when you fought the Solider face to face. He had just destroyed the car on the freeway and was after Natasha on the ground. You remember the surprise in his eyes when you had blind sided him. He quickly found out that Natasha was a diversion. His surprise had turned to borderline shock when he realized how skilled you were. You and Natasha had been quite a match until he shot her. Then it just left you and him until Steve came along.
More happened between then and where you were currently. We'll just say you both made up, arguably a little too much, and now you were mentally drained because you couldn't carry the child of the man you love. It was the most empty you felt since you watched Bucky go back into Cryo after the civil war within the Avengers.
"Honey, if it makes it any better, I really don't mind." Bucky broke the silence. "As long as I have you, darling, as long as I have you I don't care if the Earth falls apart. As long as I can love you and you can love me, I don't care."
You knew he was trying to ease your insecurity about him, he wanted you to know that it changed nothing in your marriage. You wanted to tell him that it was fine, but you'd just be lying.
"Buck, I can't have your children."
"I don't need children, I need you." He quickly answered.
You shut your eyes and leaned your head against his arm. "Bucky, I wanted a life with you, a family."
"Doll, I know this is tearing you apart, but if you want a kid then we can always adopt. Hell, think of all the dogs we can have now!"
You let your face do what came naturally and smiled. To others, he'd seem a bit insensitive with how he's acting and what he was saying, but after years of being together, years of pain, he knew that the best way to get you out of a state was to get your mind off of what ever was bothering you. He new by getting you to not dwell, you end up being able to pick yourself up and keep running.
Bucky kissed your forehead, then your lips. He put the car in drive and grabbed your hand, rubbing circles on the back of it while you stare out the windshield.
When you got back to the others, you threw your jacket over the chair and walked out of the kitchen. You didn't want to talk about the information you'd just learned that day.
Immediately, your friends knew something was off, "What's up with her?" Sam asked Bucky.
Bucky only sighed, knowing how hard you were taking it.
"She'll talk about it when she wants to." was all Bucky replied with before following you back to your shared room.
It was only hours later, at dinner time, that you had both walked back out into the kitchen to join the others. It didn't take long for Nat to nudge you and give you a look. All you had to do was look down slightly to your stomach for Natasha to understand.
"I'm so sorry, Y/n." She didn't mean to say it as loud as she did, but it ended up catching the attention of the rest.
"What? What's wrong?" Steve questioned with worry on his brow.
You sighed and realized you could trust the people around you. They were going to find out anyway. You dropped your fork on the table and retracted your arms to your body. You couldn't help but realize how vulnerable it made you look. You quickly moved your arms down and rested your hands on your thighs.
"I, uh," you paused and Bucky reached out and held your hand from under the table. "I found out today that I can't have children."
The table fell completely silent. You looked up and saw everyone looking at you, you could easily see the sorrow they had for you. They knew how much you wanted a life with Bucky, but now all that was in your way was a stupid obstacle you couldn't even change.
Natasha put her hand on your shoulder, she new what it was like. You looked at Tony who was picking at his food, forming some kind of sentence in his head.
He finally looked up and met your gaze "And you're probably one of the most responsible out of all of us." You smiled softly at his words. "Damn. Hey, you could always babysit me when Pepper isn't around." He joked.
The others chuckled. Nat patted your back softly before removing it from your body entirely.
You smiled softly and rested your head on Bucky's bicep, interlocking your fingers with his. He kissed the top of your head as the rest of the table told stories to cheer you up.
You knew, in that moment, that no matter what happened, what kind of obstacle or bad news to be thrown at you, your friends would be there to make you laugh and forget about it.

FB:**civilian name:** Francis ~~Barton~~ Cooper **hero name:** Sparrowhawk **played by:** Jack **player pronouns:** she/her **player age:** 26 **source material:** based off the little amount of comics resources available
After that, Tony would bring him small gifts every time he visited, and before long, Francis had an array of video games and other tech, some of which wasn’t even available to the public. . FB:Aunt Tasha would visit more often than the others, and sometimes she’d babysit him while his parents were away. The others, he didn’t know, but got used to seeing their faces around the house. By the time he was 16, he was almost as good with a bow as his father was, and though he was exceptional with the staff, he wasn’t quite as good with it as his mother was. . FB:Shortly after his 17th birthday, his entire life was turned upside down. **notable skills:** ● *Master Archer:* He was trained by his father to become a master archer specializing in the use of regular bows, longbows, compound bows, and crossbows with near-perfect accuracy. He is capable of firing multiple arrows at a single target in a few seconds, hitting multiple targets in a few quick strokes, and directly hit small targets in the greatest of distances. He practices a minimum of an hour a day to keep his skills honed. ● *Expert Marksman:* He possesses very keen eyesight, and his accuracy is virtually unerring; he was trained in his youth by his father with throwing blades, balls, bolas, and boomerangs. He now has near-perfect precision with any aimed or thrown weapon. He can hurl objects with extreme speed and accuracy, both in direct aim and complicated rebounds/interactions. ● *Skilled Martial Artist:* Francis is an excellent martial artist, having been trained by his father and mother in various forms. He is skilled in multiple martial arts and several forms of hand-to-hand combat, including kung fu and Tae Kwon Do. ● *Weapons Proficiency:* Although he is not known to use melee weapons, Francis’s incredible reflexes and hand-eye coordination allow him to easily master most weapons. He is especially skilled with knives and staffs, but can use most weapons in a pinch. . FB:● *Peak Human Conditioning:* Due to beginning his training at such a young age, Francis possesses exceptional human strength, endurance, and stamina, far above people his own age and most people older than him. He also has eyesight well above most people, something that he puts to well use as an archer, and something that he got from his father. He also has exceptional hearing, and can hear anyone trying to sneak up on him. ● *Expert Acrobat:* Training as an aerialist and acrobat makes him capable of numerous complex acrobatic maneuvers.
