Would you write a headcanon or even a blurb on mk1 Liu Kang having a crush on reader or falling in love with reader? I need more content with him so badd 😭 Please and thank you love ❤️
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
♡ headcanon :: how liu kang fell in love with gn!reader and their traits
mentions/warnings: none! just stupid writing errors (will be edited later)
babe pls i've been WAITING for someone to request him!! sorry for any typos or anything, i'm waiting on my laptop for the first time since my phone sucks with having music in the background while i write on here but here you go! hope you enjoy!! MY REQUESTS ARE OPEN YALL! & pls reblog thank you! ☺️💓
Tumblr media
liu kang would be conflicted in my opinion, its a new world.. a new era and he is a god compare to you being in his earth realm defense, but nonetheless it did not wary the feelings he had for you.
what was the traits that he favored from you? well, you did easily best kung lao in one of his bets! (lowkey so did the rest favored you cause it shut up kung lao for a bit!)
but mainly, you were ambitious for earth realm's victory when titan!shang tsung had declared war on this timeline.
you had confidence in him despite being told your past lives in different timelines from geras, he had asked why and was met with a answer that tugged at heart in the most blossoming way. "the fates will always find a way and i'm most thankful for this one as i get to be by your side."
was this a confession reader??? 🤓
you would laugh at his jokes even though no one else would get them, (you didn't really find his jokes humorous but you adored enough him enough to put up with it.) he still appreciated it, even if it was the smallest thing from you
in trainings, missions and in other assortments.. being diligent was your main priority. making sure you and your comrades made it back all in one piece, sometimes plans weren't always followed through but you were clever enough to have a backup plan to ensure success.
liu kang would dote on you when both of you are alone, he'll compliment the way you did your hair, how your voice sounded when you sung (lets pretend you know how to sing LOL) this man was down bad i tell ya!!
at madam bo's everything you ate/drink was paid by him, he even would ask madam bo to make you off menu dinings
this made everyone jealous because you were receiving royal treatment on which you would tease them for when his back was turned
"have you tried this tea before? it helps to smooth your throat if you have a cold" "eat this dish, the flavors of the soup can help with the sickness you're going through."
YES liu kang would be that type of person to take care of you even if you show the rarest signs of sickness!
but how did he meet you in this new era? you were trained in combat, martial arts and amongst other things which made you the second best behind raiden to being earth realms champion
although not being chosen not to represent in the tournament, you exceeded his expectations and was humbled enough to not let your pride get the best of you.
to end this, liu kang was in love with you simply because you believed in his vision and strength all those eras ago. you were you, you were his.. in every lifetime.

From nothing to something.
(Sanji x reader, part 6)
Part 1 , part 2 , part 3 , part 4 , part 5
Tumblr media
Summary: After seeing Sanji with the shop owner Y/N got very sad. Nami comforted her but also wanted to help both Sanji and y/n.
Word count: 2,5K words.
Content warnings: little bit of angst, nothing else really, flirting
Authors note: Here you go, Part 6! Let me know what you think! Been on holiday this week and i’ve written a few parts, Can’t wait to slowly upload them :)
P.S.: Sorry if there are sentences that are grammatically incorrect, English isn’t my first language, so my apologies in advance.
~~—~~—~~—~~
Nami and you excused yourself from the group and decided to go back to the ship and have another drink there, talking about what you saw earlier. Zoro looked at you confused but nodded. “If there is anything, you come and get me okay?” Zoro said and you smiled slightly. “Thank you Zoro.”
As you walked outside you saw the girl looking at you, with a sad look on her face. You turned back to Nami who was holding the door for you.
“There must be a reason he’s with her.” Nami said while closing the door behind you two.
“Yeah, let’s hope. I haven’t really been the nicest to him though.” You said, trying to hold back your tears.
“Hey don’t cry. I’ll ask him when he gets back. Maybe it’s all a misunderstanding.” Nami reassured you.
You nodded and sighed deeply. “I think I fucked it up Nami. Maybe he didn’t like kissing me and he went to her as a backup plan.” You looked at the ground as your eyes swelled with tears.
“I don’t think that would be the case y/n. For now, try not to think about it that much. We’re gonna go back to the ship, have a drink and enjoy ourselves okay?” Nami smiled while grabbing your hand and guiding you to the ship.
~~—BACK AT THE BAR (Before Y/N and Nami left);—~~
As y/n left Sanji, he didn’t know what to think. Sanji touched his lips as y/n entered the bar again. He sighed really loudly as he lit another cigarette. Sanji felt like crying but tried to keep it to himself for now. He threw his cigarette away after taking only a few hits and walked back inside.
Sanji walked straight to the bar and ordered a beer. “Thank you.” He said while he paid for it. He took a few swigs as someone put a hand on his shoulder. Sanji secretly hoped it would be the lovely miss y/l/n, but it was the shop owner from before. “What do you need?” Sanji managed to get out.
“You seem upset, what happened?” She asked.
“You happened. You ruined the chance I had with the love of my life. Now she probably doesn’t want to see me anymore.” Sanji said dramatically while wiping away a tear.
“Sit with me?” She asked while she grabbed his hand. Sanji sighed but followed her. He sat next to her and explained everything that happened. How he started to like her and about the kiss and everything around that.
She completely changed from flirting to actually trying to help. “I can talk to her and say that it’s all a big misunderstanding?” She asked while she rubbed his back, trying to comfort Sanji.
“No it’s best if I do that, explain everything. But I need to sober up first.” Sanji explained, chugging the whole beer and putting the glass away.
“I’m gonna get some water, you want anything love?” Sanji asked the shop owner. “No thank you, I still have some.” She smiled sweetly as Sanji excused himself to get water.
When he returned to the table he started to talk about the whole scenario once again. “When I’m sober, I’ll find her and talk to her.” Sanji kept repeating, while drinking his water.
He wasn’t interested in the girl he was sitting next to. He wanted it to be y/n. He looked up to scan the bar for you but you were nowhere to be found. He sighed once again and placed his head in his hands.
The shop owner saw you and Nami exit the toilets as you froze. She didn’t want to upset you and Sanji more than you already were so she ignored it for now. She saw you two storming off and once you two left she told Sanji.
“I think she just left honey.” She sighed as Sanji looked outside to see Nami and you walking away. Sanji was now crying. “Maybe this all was a mistake.” Sanji sighed as he looked at the girl.
“Thank you for listening, I’m going back to my friends.” Sanji quickly said, grabbing his water and leaving the girl alone while quickly wiping away the rest of his tears.
“Sanji there you are! Luffy yelled excitedly as he saw Sanji approach. Sanji smiled and sat down next to Ussop.
“Where are the girls?” Sanji asked, hoping they didn’t leave.
“Back at the ship by now.” Zoro mumbled as he took another sip from his nearly finished beer. “Did they say why they left?” Sanji asked.
“They weren’t feeling well, probably drank too much.” Luffy laughed. Sanji nodded and drank the rest of his water. “I’ll check up on them, see if they need anything.” Sanji smiled politely. Zoro glanced at Sanji but decided to keep his thoughts to himself, for now at least.
~~—BACK AT THE SHIP;—~~
Nami helped you calm down and grabbed a drink for the both of you, from Zoro’s stock of course.
You were lying down at the upper deck, stargazing, wirh nami lying next to you. You grabbed a cigarette and lit it before taking a hit.
“Is it okay for me to smoke a cigarette?” You quickly asked Nami, who just laughed and nodded.
“You already lit it so enjoy it.” She smiled.
You both started to chat a little when you heard some footsteps approaching.
Nami and you lied there silently as you were both listening to who it could be. You heard a lighter and knew immediately it would be Sanji. Nami looked at you and sighed silently.
“We’ll give him some time to gather his thoughts and then I’lll talk to him.” Nami whispered to you. You just nodded and listened. You heard him entering the ship, hearing a door open and close. You both sat up and Nami smiled.
Nami and you gave him a few minutes before looking over at you, once again.
“Nothing that can’t be explained right?” Nami smiled soflty. “You go to our room and I’ll tell you what happened when I get back.” Nami was now standing, slowly exiting the upper deck to find Sanji.
This was your sign to make your way to your shared room. You entered the room, gathered stuff to take a shower and made your way to the showers.
You turned on the shower as you stripped yourself from your clothes. You threw them onto the already growing pile of dirty clothes. You took off your makeup before stepping in the shower.
You washed your hair and tried to relax a little bit. The shower seemed to help as you were starting to forget what happened earlier. You were humming a few songs as you stepped out of the shower, drying your hair and got dressed into some oversized shirt and a boxershort.
As you excited the shower you saw Nami exit the kitchen. She smiled as she pointed inside. “Your turn.”
You stood there, frozen. “Absolutely not, Definitely not dressed like this.” You quickly said while you turned around, but it was already to late. Nami grabbed your arm and dragged you to the kitchen door. “It will be all right. I don’t think he cares, Just listen to him.” Nami reassured you.
“Nami I thought you were gonna explain it to me before you force me to talk to him.” You whispered/shouted.
“Yeah and I’ve changed my mind. Just go in.” She said a little bit irritated.
“No I’m not going in ther-Nami!” You yelled as she pushed you into the kitchen, closing the door behind you.
You looked up and saw Sanji. He took off his blazer and tie and unbuttoned a few buttons of his shirt. His hair was messy. There were cigarette buds everywhere and it looked like he had been crying.
He looked up and you felt terrible. You were the one responsible for this, If you just had listened to him instead of leaving him after he kissed you, this wouldn’t have happened.
“Hey Sanji.” You mumbled as you sat down on a chair.
“Hello love, looking good.” He said with a raspy voice. He really looked like a mess but you thought he also looked kinds hot, except for his red and puffy eyes of course.
You stood up and walked over to him. He froze in place, expecting you to hit him. You hugged him while you tried not to cry. “Thank you Sanji. I’m so sorry that I didn’t listen. I’m sorry I left you out there alone.” You mumbled into his chest.
He still wasn’t hugging you back so you looked up at him. He was holding back his tears as best as he could but it wasn’t working. You let go of him and he sighed. You were about to take a step back as he pulled you back into a hug.
“It’s all a misunderstanding Mi Amore. I was confused after you left me alone outside, so I went in to get a beer, that’s when the shop owner came to me. She asked what was wrong and asked me if I wanted to sit with her while I explained everything, so I did.-“ He started to get explain, while hugging you tightly. “At first I hoped it to be you, but you were nowhere to be found. The girl told me you left, because I didn’t see you leave. I wanted to sober up before talking to you, but that didn’t quite happen.” He said softly, while pointing to the empty wine bottels and a glass spread around the counter.
“Nami told me what happened, on your side.” He whispered. You looked up at him and he was already looking at you. You sighed and looked away, you felt your cheeks brighten by the second.
“I understand where you come from love, but I would never ever forget something like that, I wanted to kiss you for a long time now.” He admitted while loosening his grip on you. You let go of him and took a step back. You quickly grabbed a few napkins as you wiped away his tears. You didn’t say anything and just smiled softly.
“As I said earlier, I’m sorry Sanji.” You said softly after a little while. You took another step back and looked at him one more time. He was now slightly blushing at how close you were standing and with nothing more than a shirt and boxers.
He looked at you and smiled. “It’s okay my love. I’m happy we could talk about it before going to bed.” He said lighting another cigarette. There was no tention between the two of you, but you could see there was still something on Sanji’s mind.
You laughed softly, while leaning against the counter behind you. “My mom and dad used to say something like that too.-“ You started. He looked at you and you continued. “If we ever had an argument with someone, for example my dad. We could talk it out before bed because we had one rule. Never go to bed angry. I guess some things never change.” You chuckled as you turned around and started cleaning the counter.
Sanji just looked at you as you were cleaning. If he wasn’t as drunk as he was now, he would’ve asked you to stay with him tonight, in his hammock.
You could see that Sanji was still thinking about something as you waved your hand in front of his face after everything wad cleaned. “What’s on your mind Sanji?” You asked him. He turned bright red as he shook his head. “Nothing important.” He smiled lazily.
“You should go to bed love.” You said while you guided him to his room. He grabbed your hand as he followed you, secretly hoping you would stay, but he wasn’t gonna ask.
You opened the door to the boys room and you went inside, closing the door behind Sanji. “Are you gonna be alright?” You asked him. He looked at you and sighed. “I will be once I sober up a little more.” He laughed soflty. He didn’t wait for you to leave the room as he started to undress.
Normally you would excuse yourself as fast as you possibly could, but now you just needed to make sure he was okay. “Where are your pyjama’s?” You asked while looking through his stuff. “Don’t need them baby.” Sanji mumbled as he stood there in only his underwear. He got into the hammock, and put his blanket over him.
Your eyes widen as you looked at him. Sanji called you baby and you didn’t mind on bit. You went to his hammock and tucked him in. “If there is anything, let me know okay?” You smiled as he nodded. “You can just come into the room and wake me up, but be careful not to wake Nami up.” You warned him.
He nodded and closed his eyes, sighing. “Thank you baby. For taking care of me after everything.” You blushed slightly. “Always Sanji.” You left his room and quickly stopped by the kitchen again. You grabbed some painkillers and a bottle of water. You silently went back into the boys’ room again as you saw him, already asleep. You placed the painkillers and bottle on his little makeshift nightstand and quickly gave him a kiss on his forehead. “Goodnight love.” You whispered as you now went back to your shared room.
Nami left the door slightly open and as you went inside, you could see that she was already asleep. You smiled, knowing you don’t have to explain what happened until the morning.
You got into bed and closed your eyes, drifting to sleep.
~~—~~—~~—~~
You were woken up by Sanji who was at the end of your bed, wearing nothing more than a robe and underwear. “You told me it was okay to wake you up if there was anything.” Sanji whispered. You smiled sleepily. “Yeah, what’s up?” You whispered back. He looked at the ground and sighed. “Woke up some time ago but couldn’t fall back asleep, so I was wondering if you had some space left over so I could join you?” He was holding the painkillers, bottle and some clothes. You chuckled at the sight but nodded.
“All right then.” You moved a bit towards the wall, making extra space for Sanji, who put away the stuff that he was holding and gladly joined you. He hung up his robe and joined you in your bed. He immediately sighed and looked at you. “Can we cuddle?” Sanji asked hopefully.
“I thought you would never ask.” You replied sheepishly while you laid against him. He spooned you and sighed deeply. He gave you a kiss on the back of your head and smiled to himself. “Just returning the favor.” He mumbled before faling asleep.
You on the other hand, were slightly panicking. Sanji sleeping AND cuddling you? That was something you didn’t ever see happening. Also him noticing the kiss you gave him earlier, you should’ve known. Yet you were really comfortable and you took a deep breath. You smiled to yourself as you drifted to sleep once more.

WHG 20 Prompt 1 - Triel
Content warning for mentions of rape and suggestive themes. Tagging: @ratracechronicler, @maple-writes, @pen-of-roses, @drabbleitout (thanks for Ives!), @grailfish, @forthesanityofsome, and @pied-piper-of-hamlet!
I twirled the key for the room I had “paid” for to have alone time with a victor. Ives, to be precise. He had been a tribute with Nesri, and we hadn’t been able to rescue him, but that was all going to change now. We had plans and backups and nothing would go wrong enough to stop us from getting tributes out and rescuing Ives.
The Capitol was selling his body for shits and giggles, and I had half a mind to kill anyone who touched him, but I didn’t have enough time, unfortunately. At least I had been able to send the person who paid for the ticket for Ives’s time tonight to a hospital instead.
The hotel they had people meet him in looked fancy on the outside, but once I got into the room it was all dark and dingy and sad. Except for the fucking bed. Of course. Bastards.
I closed the door softly. “It’s been a while, Steelheart. You don’t have to worry about someone coming to rape you. I totally didn’t beat them up within an inch of their life to get their ticket.” He was standing farther in, and I couldn’t see well enough, so I turned on the light.
He flinched at that, curling in more on himself. Damn, he looked like shit. I had to hurry up and rescue him. He looked at me, but not up into my face. And his movements seemed slow. “I…I don’t understand,” he said quietly, tilting his head. “Did you want their ticket to take their place? I don’t mean to ask too many questions, I only want to know what I should adjust for the evening. What matters is that you have a ticket. How would you like to proceed?”
Fuck. Nesri had warned me how completely the Capitol probably unraveled him, but he was acting nothing like he had before. I walked a step closer, taking off my hat. “It’s Triel Reeves. Do you remember? The Games three years ago? I failed you then, but I want to help you now.” He still looked lost. “I’d like to talk.”
He finally looked up at my face when I removed my hat but winced and looked away. But then looked back. He blinked rapidly and looked away again, giving a small nod. “Would you like to sit?” He sounded shaky. “Can I get you anything?”
“No thanks. You’re not a servant. I’d actually ask you the same thing. My engineer sent some things with me just in case you were doing bad. And Nesri sent a letter. Do you remember her at least?” I sat down far away from him. I wasn’t about to make him uncomfortable by being close.
“I remember,” he whispered. He sat down, keeping the distance. “I’m doing well enough. They keep me…functioning.” He glanced around the room.
“Then you’ll probably appreciate these.” I set out the mechanical parts Shine had given me and the letter from Nesri. I didn’t remember all of it, but it basically said that she missed him and that we were coming to rescue him now, after we failed him.
He picked up the letter first, slowly reading over it. “Failed me…? I don’t understand. You got yourself and the others away. I’m property of the Capitol. This is what I’m meant for.” He didn’t let go of the letter though. “You’re putting too much at risk here.”
Of course I had failed him. Ryker had died, and he had gotten trapped by the Capitol. I leaned forward and clasped my hands. “I did fail you. You and Ryker. And I can’t make it up to him, but I am planning on making it up to you. We have a plan. I’ll be the tribute this time, and I’ve gotten better and have more comprehensive plans. I won’t let that happen again. And if something does happen and tributes I recruited get captured, I have plans for that. I want to help you and get you out of here. You’re no one’s property, Ives. You’re a person, and I really want to help.”
He winced, looking at the floor and setting his jaw. “And if you’re captured?” he said lowly. “Am I supposed to lose you too?”
I smiled. “I have plans for that too. The Capitol won’t be ready for what I have in store for them.”
“Should you be telling me this?” he whispered. “Am I not a liability?”
I shook my head. “I don’t believe you are. The Capitol has abused you. Don’t you want to fight back? I can help with that. Please. Let me help you, Steelheart.”
He didn’t speak for a while, and I waited patiently. “The Capitol has taken advantage of all of us,” he said lowly, looking over at me. And I would never admit it out loud, but it looked like he was about to cry. “What’s your plan?”
I smiled, wanting to reach out and hold his hand, but that would probably make him uncomfortable. He had enough people touching him. “I volunteer for the youngest kid in my district. I recruit as many tributes as possible. Shine, my engineer, is making a teleporter that I’ll sneak into the arena. Nesri will also have one just in case I am captured so she can still get you out. The teleporter will be used to fuck with the Capitol and then to get everyone out. If there are any people captured, we’ll raise hell in the Capitol from the safe place I have. Then we’ll truly escape once we have everyone.”
Ives nodded slowly and folded the letter up. “What would you like me to do? How can I help?”
I shook my head. “I don’t expect anything from you. You don’t have to do anything for me to help you. But if you want to do something, I’ve heard that you’ll be a mentor this year. Please watch over the tribute you have. They’ll probably need it.”
“A mentor?” He frowned. “I don’t…I…” He fell silent, wrestling with himself for a bit. “I’ll try,” he whispered.
“And me, Nesri, and Shine will be there to help, so if you need anything, please let one of us know. Oh, and Shine has been taking good care of Niner. She’s excited to see you.” Niner was the Synthetic Doberman who had been with Ives at first, but he had begged us to take her with us to protect her.
He nodded, stilling at the mention of Niner. “Thank you. For all of it. I don’t deserve all of this.”
I nodded. “I think you do, but I also think that it doesn’t matter whether someone deserves it or not. That’s not a good measure of anything, really.”  I paused. “Do you want me to stay so we can chat? Or would you rather me leave so you can have a quiet night tonight? I might just go and find some other people who bought tickets for you and totally not beat them within an inch of their lives too.”
“You shouldn’t do that,” he whispered. “You could put your plans at risk.” He leaned over his knees. “Which I know you’re probably busy with. I don’t want to keep you. How long is it until the Games start? Maybe, if they’re planning to use me as a mentor, they won’t be giving out as many tickets.”
Of course not. They were way the fuck too greedy. “Only about a week until the Reapings happen. And no worries. I have the perfect disguise for that.” I winked. “You don’t need to worry about me. I’ve gotten good at making plans by now. And do you want me to stay and chat? It can be about anything. I have a lot of good stories too.”
Ives nodded. “I do want you to be careful. But I think, maybe, I should try and get myself ready for things.” He glanced down at the mechanical stuff Shine sent. “I have a few repairs I should do.”
At least he was going to take the help! I nodded and stood up. “I’ll see you, and I’ll help get you out. I promise.” I put on my hat and bowed with a flourish. “Please stay safe.”
“You as well. And, Triel, no picking fights,” he whispered.
I grinned. “Don’t know if I can promise that, but I’ll try.” And with that, I left. And totally tracked down at least some ticket holders before I headed back to the ship to see my crew.
When I got back on the ship, Nesri walked straight up to me and even Shine looked up from what they were working on. I grinned and waved at them before hugging Nesri, giving her a kiss on the cheek and feeling more of a thrill when she blushed.
Shine walked up, handing us wine glasses and signing once their hands were free. “How did the meeting with Ives go?”
I took a sip and walked over with Nesri, sitting down next to where Shine was working on something for the mission. I signed back. “It will take some work to convince him, but I am not going to give up on him.”
Nesri chuckled and chugged her wine, leaning against me afterwards, signing as well. “I will talk to him, and then he will totally change his mind. Well,” she deflated a little. “I failed him. I will not fail him again. Steelheart is going to be safe by the end of this. I promise that.”
I looked over at Nesri and held her close, kissing her forehead. “I failed him too. It is not just on your shoulders.”
Shine snorted. “I just want to learn more about his machines and help him out.”
We laughed, and I relaxed against Nesri. “This will be the last time I will be able to relax for a few weeks.” I stared up at the night sky. I was going to miss the ocean. “The stars are beautiful tonight.”
Nesri nudged me before she signed. “They are not the only things that are beautiful.”
Shine sighed. “Not to break up your flirting, but just to check one more time, what is the plan for the Reaping day?”
I nodded. “There are no planned volunteers. Ashont doesn’t have anyone to force to volunteer, so I’ll volunteer for the youngest person I can.”
Shine nodded and finished with their work. They handed it to me. “The teleportation device. I will make it small enough for you to be able to sneak it into the arena.”
I grinned and clasped their hand before signing. “You are a genius. Thank you so much!”
I leaned back and sipped my wine as Shine waved it off. Nesri leaned against me and whispered in my ear. “You want to have a good night before the Reaping?”
A smirk pulled at my lips, and I looked down at her. “Always, love.” I checked with Shine to make sure they were good and walked with Nesri to my quarters to have a nice night.

won’t you give me your cruelest smile
↳ DARK ACADEMIA TSUKISHIMA KEI
Tumblr media
pairing: tsukishima kei x gn!reader
word count: 1.4k
excerpt:
He makes no move to get up as he watches you pack. “You really don’t like me, do you?” He sounds far too pleased for your liking.
“No one likes you,” you snap back, stuffing the last heavy tome in your bag and shouldering it. “You’re an ass.”
a/n: @yamagucji said dark academia tsukki and my brain quite literally short circuited
tags: enemies-ish to lovers (more like academic rivals to lovers), tsukki being an annoyingly smart condescending history major, reader goes through the five stages of grief when they realize they might actually li- 🤢 like him, a reference to the classic ‘ooooh you wanna kiss me so bad it makes you look stupid’
Tumblr media
If there is a single, minuscule, barely visible silver lining in having Tsukishima as a partner for your quarter project it is that, without a doubt, he is smart.
You have to admit, begrudgingly, that his intellect borders on genius-level which is something you use as silent proof to attest to your working theory that there is in fact, no god, or at the very least not a kind one, because if there was they wouldn’t be blessing gremlins like the one sitting across from you with a gift like that.
He’s quiet now (after about an hour of telling you all the ways your interpretation was oh so very wrong) and content to stare at you lazily, his eyes half-lidded and filled with his specific brand of cruel amusement that leaves you wanting to do nothing more than smack his black-rimmed glasses right off his smug face.
You take a deep breath and try desperately to quell the utterly unique type of rage he elicits in you, although as always, nothing you do ever quite manages to bring your boiling blood to a simmer.
He’s twirling his expensive black pen between his stupidly long fingers. Every once in a while the light catches on the onyx stone of his pinky ring which somehow manages to flash directly in your eyes every time. He notices, of course. He notices everything. Which makes you think he’s doing it on purpose just to be an ass.
Which, admittedly, is perfectly in line with everything else he does so, you come to the frustrating conclusion that he most definitely is doing it on purpose.
“You’re embarrassingly easy to rile up,” he says, interrupting your silent seething, his voice deep and smooth and absolutely dripping with condescending satisfaction.
Your eyes flash up from the book you’d been only barely processing just to be met with his own golden-brown ones. He’s smirking down at you, of course. You don’t think you’ve ever seen him wear any other sort of expression.
You want nothing more than to glare at him but that would just be proving his point so instead, you snap your book shut. It rings out loudly in the empty library.
“It’s late. Let’s start this backup tomorrow.”
He makes no move to get up as he watches you pack. “You really don’t like me, do you?” he sounds far too pleased for your liking.
“No one likes you,” you snap back, stuffing the last heavy tome in your bag and shouldering it. “You’re an ass.”
He tilts his head back, exposing his long neck, and laughs. It’s so deep you feel it in your own chest. You just barely manage to suppress a shiver, which thank fuck, because he would’ve most definitely noticed it and you don’t think you’d be able to live that down.
You make your way towards the front doors but not before he manages to slip on his wool coat and catch up to you, with ease of course, his long legs have become your number one enemy over the quarter because he always, always, catches up with you when you try to speed walk away from him.
The autumn chill immediately settles into your bones, your skin prickles unpleasantly. You can see your breath in the night air. A shitty end to a shit day.
You both head down the cobbled street in strangely comfortable silence. He’s close enough that you can feel the heat he radiates and you’re silently thankful for it.
You get to the fork in the path where he takes his way back to his dorm and you take yours but instead of peeling off left like he usually does he sticks to your side.
You stop immediately and eye him up warily. “What are you doing?”
He rolls his eyes. “Asking idiotic questions doesn’t really suit you, you know.”
You say nothing, content to narrow your eyes.
He rolls his eyes again and lets out a long-suffering sigh. “I’m walking you home, try not to be a brat about it.”
“You never walk me home,” you point out, suspiciously.
“You are rather good at pointing out the very obvious, aren’t you?” and before you can respond he already had turned on his heels and started walking. You have to half jog to catch up.
You watch him out of the corner of your eye with the intent of trying to read his motive but you get stuck on the fact that his cheeks are flushed rather prettily from the cold.
“You sure do love to stare, don’t you?” he asks rather conversationally.
You’ve never wanted the ground to open up and swallow you whole more in your entire life. Your cheeks burn hot even in the frigid cold.
He notices. Of course he does. What does Tsukishima Kei not notice?
“No need to be embarrassed,” he needles cruelly. “Denial can be a brutal beast.”
You only barely manage to stop yourself from asking what exactly he means by that, what exactly he thinks you’re in denial about.
But you know he wants nothing more than for you to ask so you take a sweet sort of satisfaction in not questioning him further, at least on that front.
The rest of the walk back to your dorm is spent in less comfortable silence than before. There’s an odd sort of tension in the air, like a rope pulled so tight you can physically feel it starting to fray, getting ready to snap.
It comes to a head when, after getting to your building, instead of immediately going inside you find yourself looking down and shuffling your feet.
You know you should thank him, even if you didn’t ask him to walk you home. You guys never worked this late, you’d lost track of time (it’s scarily easy to lose track of time when arguing with Tsukishima) and you know it was nice of him to walk you home when he’d have to double back another 15 minutes in the freezing cold to get to his place.
You know you should thank him. It’s the reasonable, polite thing to do. But it’s just so fucking hard to be reasonable and polite when Tsukishima Kei and his galaxy-sized ego are involved. No one in your entire life has been able to get under your skin as he has. It’s like he was perfectly crafted to be your own personal headache.
You brave a glance up at him and find that he’s standing very, very close and staring, rather intensely, at you. A curiously amused gleam in his eye.
Your mind stutters and then stops completely, going painfully blank.
He’s so stupidly pretty.
His skin is flawless, you’ve never once seen him with even a single pimple, his hair is the nicest pale-blond you’ve ever seen and it falls in perfect tufts against his forehead, but it’s his eyes that always make you shift from foot to foot. They’re such a unique shade of golden-brown, and now, shrouded in the dark and mere inches away from your own face, you’d swear on your life they were practically glowing.
“You’ve got something on your mind?” he asks, his tone anything but sweet. He’s so close you can smell the warm spice of his cologne and the ever-clinging scent of ancient books that seems to follow him wherever he goes.
“I-” but you can’t seem to put together a coherent sentence. You don’t think you’ve ever hated someone so much in your life.
Somehow, he’s managed to push in even closer. “You know what I think?”
No, you want to say, and I don’t want to know. Your heart is beating far too fast and you can’t explain why.
(You know exactly why)
“I think you want to kiss me.”
And just like that the rope snaps and you’re viciously tugging him down by the collar of his too-nice coat so you can smash your lips against his.
The kiss is brutal. Far too mean with too much teeth. At one point you taste the sting of iron and you can’t tell if the blood is his or yours.
He backs you up against a wall without breaking the kiss. When he bites at your lip, no doubt cutting it open, you grab a fist full of his hair and tug cruelly and his responding groan tastes so sweet on your tongue.
He doesn’t pull away until your lungs are screaming for air.
He’s inches away from you, pupils blown wide, lips swollen (and a little bloody), and his hair is a mess. It’s the most out of sorts you’ve ever seen him.
If you thought he was pretty before, he’s absolutely beautiful now.
His smirk widens into a full blown smile and you understand now why he doesn’t show it often. It shows too many teeth, it’s downright wolfish. Predatory, even.
You don’t really have time to think on it though before he pulls you into another bruising kiss.
Tumblr media
have some dark academia tsukishima headcanons while you’re here
he is without a doubt the most pretentious asshole you will ever meet and and you will HATE yourself for eventually finding him weirdly charming in any capacity
he is, of course, a history major which. if you have ever met pretentious male history majors you will know that this means he is a literal walking, talking, annoyingly tall headache
interrupts professors constantly. does it like he’s getting paid. will argue and argue and argue with them without that dumb condescending smirk ever, ever managing to slip off his face
(the worst part is, he’s honestly probably making a good point most of the time. but you’d quite literally rather die than admit that to him)
he is always walking around campus lazily flipping through leather bound books so old they’re cracked precariously at their spines, all on different ancient civilizations. you’d think that’d mean he’d be running into people but the student body collectively parts like the red sea for him which sets your teeth on edge.
he’s unbelievably arrogant and the worst part is its not baseless like you find yourself so desperately wishing it was
he IS smart, wickedly so. disgustingly, cruelly intelligent and he will use it to pick you apart piece by piece while that stupid fucking smirk stays glued on his face.
(you start to seriously question whether or not he’s even human because how can anyone keep the same, perfectly calculated expression for that long?)
always looks like he stepped straight out of some dark alternate universe vogue photoshoot with his constant rotation of black turtlenecks, long coats, and oxford loafers all tied together by the same 5 rings he’s never seen without, two of which are set with hefty onyx stones
you will be unlucky enough to be paired up with him for a project that will take all quarter long and multiple meet ups a week. when your professor announced your partner, you genuinely consider dropping the class and when you find out you wouldn’t be able to drop the class without switching majors, you genuinely consider switching majors
you don’t. and by the end of the quarter you’re really starting to question whether that was a good thing or not

synopsis: having a turtoring session with fratboy!hyuck that you were bribed into turned into a cuddle session, but he definitely didn’t mind at all

you rubbed your head in frustration as the memory kept replaying in your head, making you regret your past decision. earlier in the day, lee donghyuck was practically begging you to tutor him for his upcoming exam. you were so set on saying ‘no’ because you very much disliked the guy but he began to wave fifty dollars in your face. and you, a broke college student, completely forgot about all the unfavorable feelings towards the boy and gave in.
but as hours passed by, you began to reconsider if spending time with donghyuck was worth fifty dollars. maybe if it were doubled then you wouldn’t be second-guessing your past decision. you looked at your phone to check the time, just to see if it was too late to back out now. and unfortunately for you, it was.
you let out a loud groan in the middle of the student café lounge area that you and your best friend, renjun, were relaxing in. “nice to see you doing well, y/n.” renjun took a pause from drawing on his sketchbook and looked up smiling mockingly at you to which you didn’t respond to in any way shape or form. the smile dropped and a wave of annoyance took over his facial expressions. “okay, what is it. are you hungry? you should’ve just aske-”
“i’m not always hungry.” you rolled your eyes at him and lowered yourself in your seat. “it’s donghyuck-”
“oh god. then whatever it is, that obnoxiously loud groan was valid.” he groaned with you. renjun never had a good impression on donghyuck because he didn’t brake his car for renjun when he was trying to walk across the pedestrian crosswalk, and donghyuck never said sorry nor look apologetic. instead, he just gave renjun trauma. he’s the reason why renjun always wait ten seconds minimum before crossing the street. although it gets annoying, his lost face before crossing reminds you of a cute kitten which makes up for the long wait. “what did he do this time?”
“he’s paying me to tutor him at his frat.” his face was evident in disgust and empathy. “i’m regretting saying yes because i’m too exhausted to deal with him.” you whined and put your face in your hands, rubbing it harshly in an attempt to wake yourself up.
“y/n, you are so strong.” he grabbed your hand away from your face and rubbed your hand awkwardly as he looked at you with apologetic eyes. “no but seriously, text me when he starts acting up. i’ll have jaemin with me for backup because i mean.” he lifted up his arms and tried to flex his arm muscles. key word: tried. “you know.”
you let out a chuckle, closed your eyes, and let your head fall back. “i’ll definitely be live texting you whenever he says and does something stupid.”
“so basically, what you’re saying is that you’ll be texting me every second. might as well have me on facetime.”
you looked back at your best friend who was showing a toothy grin. “basically.” you checked your phone again and saw that if you didn’t leave now then you’d be late to the session. “fuck, i gotta get going. please wish me luck.” you lazily got up, got your bag and stood still in front of renjun with a face that was screaming ‘help me.’
“c’mon at least you’re getting paid, right?”
“you’re right, i need to stop being such a child.” you sighed and tried to erase every negative thought and feeling inside of you.
“kick his ass if he acts up though.” he raised an eyebrow at you.
you scoffed, “of course of course.” you sighed once again and pet renjun’s hair as you walked emotionless out of the student café and made your way to the bus stop.
donghyuck’s fraternity was only a couple blocks away and it honestly wouldn’t take long to walk there but you were too tired to even try.
the commute was quick but you wish it wasn’t. there you were, standing outside the door of regret. the outside was fairly clean but you knew that the inside would be a completely different story. you knocked a few times on the white door before a smiling donghyuck greeted you. “oh wow, you actually came.”
you fought back the urge to roll your eyes. “you’re welcome.” you both stood there awkwardly while he stared you down and you tried avoiding eye contact.
“oh sorry, come in.” he turned his body to make way for yours to enter his place. “i made sure we’re alone because it’s usually loud when the others are here. they’ll be back in a couple hours, though.” he scratched his neck and yawned while you examined the place. you were right, the inside was messy but to your surprise, it wasn’t too bad.
“yeah sounds good. it shouldn’t take too long” you turned to face him and gawked at his appearance. okay there’s no denying donghyuck is pretty decent looking, but he looks extra good today. he stood there awkwardly with his hands rested in the pockets of his oversized black jacket. his hair was slightly ruffled up, you can tell he just woke up from a nap. “you really thought i’d flake on you?” you raised an eyebrow.
his eyes wondered your facial features and marks. “i mean, you kinda hate me so.”
“i don’t hate you.” you corrected him. you may have a strong disfavor of him but you don’t hate him.
he smirked, his body seemed to relax a lot more. “then, let’s get started.” he walked past me and lead the way up the spiral staircase and into his room, which was surprisingly clean and well decorated with a tidy computer gaming set at the corner.
you set your bag right by the bed which you sat on. “so specifically, what are you struggling on?” you asked him looking at his figure that was leaned against his dresser a couple feet across from you.
“uh everything?” he let out a shy laugh and crossed his arms in front of him.
you decided not to scold him for always partying because truth is, you don’t know anything that’s going on in his life so you swallowed the upcoming insults that were climbing up your throat. “oh, well, we should get started asap then so we don’t finish too late.” you cleared your throat.
his eyes widened in surprise like he was expecting your usual witty remarks that he secretly loved, but you weren’t aware of his fondness for your attitude. “yeah for sure, let me get my stuff.” he hurriedly gathered his materials and set them on the bed next to me since he didn’t have a desk in his room. well, he did have his computer desk but there was definitely no room for books there.
he climbed on the bed and rested on his stomach and flipped the pages of the textbook, trying to find the first section he needed assistance on.
you kicked off your shoes and laid down next to him, but keeping your distance from him. he smirked slightly while still keeping his focus on the page. “you can scoot closer so you can see the book clearer.” he looked at you with innocent eyes.
in instinct, you rolled your eyes and scooted a bit closer to him. close enough to smell his cologne and close enough to see his moles randomly placed on his face and neck clearly. you took your attention away from his face when he suddenly made eye contact with you, catching you off-guard.
his warm, soft bedsheets did no help in keeping you awake. you tried to focus on the words he was spitting out but every word entered one ear and went out the other as your eyelids began to feel heavier, and your vision slowly began to black out.
“dude what the fuck happened?” an unfamiliar whisper woke you up from your sleep but you ignored it, just trying to go back to your dreamland.
until you felt something absurd, someone’s warm embrace wrapped around you, your head was now resting on a pillow and an arm, and your cheek was rubbing against a wet patch of what you assumed was your drool on a white t-shirt fabric. “bro shut the fuck up, you’re gonna wake y/n up.” now, that was a familiar whisper to you. your heartbeat raced faster and faster as you made the conclusion that you were cuddling with the lee donghyuck. you internally groaned knowing that renjun will never shut up about this once you tell him. this will be his winning comeback for your future arguments. i mean, you could not tell him but what kind of best friend would you be if you didn’t inform him of the time you magically started cuddling with a man you disliked—but still enjoyed it.
“you better tell me everything later.” the whisper was a lot harsher than the first one, then silence followed after the unknown boy closed the door. you assumed he was gone but you waited to lift your head up to make it not obvious that you were awake to listen to their conversation.
“i know you’re awake.” donghyuck laughed above you, his chest rumbled against your cheek. “you stopped snoring a while ago.”
you groaned in annoyance and also in embarrassment. you slowly lifted your head up to look up at him and you were not ready to see the sight of him looking down at you with a soft smile and even messier hair, causing your heart to skip a beat. both your arms were still wrapped around each other, leaving no space between you both. “what the fuck.” you blurted out, not knowing what else to say.
donghyuck’s tired smile widened. “i should be the one asking you that. sweetheart, you’re the one who cuddled up to me first.” he enjoyed watching your face flush red in embarrassment, anger, and also by the way he looked at you so attentively. “you know, its quite rude.” he tightened his grip around you. “i’m supposed to be paying for a tutoring lesson.” he pursed his lips and furrowed his eyebrows, not breaking eye contact with you.
you remained looking at him with shaky eyes, not believing the situation you were in. your mouth opened, then it closed, then it opened to say something but donghyuck cut you off. “but this is so much better, my money well spent.” he sighed contently and closed his eyes, rubbing his cheek against the top of your head.
you could’ve protested or done anything to get out of his grip but your body stayed the way it is. “i didn’t even get to teach you one lesson, i’m sorry.” you were sincere with your apology, you wasted his time and now he’s probably gonna fail his exam if you two keep cuddling.
“i don’t care about that. i prefer this much more.” his eyes were still closed. you continued to admire his face and tried to memorize every single detail and placement of each mark. “hmmm, why don’t you take a picture?” he hummed, still keeping his eyes closed.
your hands made their way up his ear and pinched it. he let out a whine and finally opened his eyes which immediately landed directly on yours. “quit it.” you warned him.
“as you wish, darling.” his voice became lower and it almost sounded like a whisper. a soft smirk appeared on his face and his eyes were sparkling under the moonlight that shined through his window. “i love talking to you but i think i finally found something i love even more—sleeping with you.”
you opened your mouth to say something but his finger pressed against your lips to keep you quiet. he shushes you softly while he shuffled slightly to find a comfortable position, still keeping his embrace secure around you and his eyelids began to slowly drop. you admired his face once more before closing your eyes as well.
the question you asked yourself earlier today lingered in your mind before drifting off to your sleep again. is spending time with donghyuck worth fifty dollars? considering how warm he felt against you, and how you loved to hear his breathing and soft snores above you, and how perfect your body naturally molded into his embrace. you could finally answer the question confidently, yes.

- kicks door open dramatically - Money. How does it work in the Devildom? -zoomed in eye emoji-
I love that when I ask my friends to remind me to write things they send me anons with flare. Y’all so good to me, Ily, enablin my Thoughts bc I got carried away.
(For context this’s just how I like thinkin the boys get that sweet cash money, bc I Have Thoughts On That, apparently).
- Student Council Members all get paid for their service. It’s pretty self explanatory, I think, but c’mon; that’s a job, as well as a technical governmental position. You can’t NOT pay them.
- The brothers do NOT get to see this money. Student Council paychecks go straight to Lucifer as part of the budget for the House of Lamentation; they are not allowed to so much as think about touching this money, because it’s what he uses to pay for all of their household expenses. Food allowance, maintanence, WIFI router fees, their TV license... it’s all accounted for using the very steady and non-fluctuating income they get.
- Any income the brothers make outside of this is purely their own! All of Mammon’s paychecks from his modeling gigs go straight to his own bank account, and the same can be said for the money Asmo earns from his designer brand. They can do anything they want with this money, and Lucifer is not allowed to touch it unless in some form of punishment.
- Admittedly that “punishment” doesn’t happen often. He doesn’t really enjoy messing with their money, especially not when they’ve actually worked for it - which is why he’s content to leave it as their money, rather than the Household’s as a whole - but if it’s clear that they’ll use their money to do something irresponsible or damaging, he’ll call the bank and force them to put the account on hold.
- (By “irresponsible or damaging”, I mean to the tune of “Satan once tried to use his funds to buy an extremely suspicious amount of Very Deadly Ingredients at the same time Belphie uncharacteristically offered to assist in the preparation for Lucifer’s birthday party”. He really doesn’t care what they spend it on beyond that, so something like Levi spending all of his Grimm on the same CD over a thousand times? Lucifer doesn’t exactly get it, but eh, that’s legit.)
- Yes, Lucifer can do this. He’s the overseer of the accounts, in technicality; though he lets the brothers do as they please, they’re all legally in his name. It’s one of those things that the bank has been personally informed of since the start. Yeah, they treat the individual brothers as the account holders, but if Lucifer phones up and says the brother in question isn’t allowed to access his funds? Then the bank goes, “yes, sir”, and nothing can get them back in except Lucifer phoning the bank up again.
- Lucifer’s pretty good at handling their fees, thanks to the several millenia he’s had doing it. Things can get a little tight, but he’s always able to leave some money at the end as a sort of backup allowance (a last resort pool for each brother). Even at the worst possible point, he refuses to take from the backup allowances unless absolutely necessary - which is mostly on the very, very rare occassions that their expenditure exceeds Student Council funding.
- Each of the brothers are allowed to have a Credit Card that is separate from the backup allowance. They’re fully expected to pay back the Card with their own money - not their Student Council funding - and if they’re incapable of doing so, they can use their backup allowance to pay it off. Goldie is Mammon’s, and obviously the most well-known, but the others can have one, too - if they want to.
- If they run out of their backup allowance, well, they’re just shit out of luck, because they can only have access to it when all other resources run dry. It really is like a last resort; something that’s just meant to tide them over till they next get paid. After that, their Credit Card gets frozen, and Lucifer just lets them deal with their own problems - so long as it doesn’t impact the finances of the House as a whole, anyway.
- So, obviously Mammon has his modeling job - I mentioned that before! Levi gets his own income from streams, and Satan gets his from the patents he has on various spells and hexes he’s created. Asmo, beyond the designer brand he owns, does get a lot of income from his status as a Devilgram Influencer, and Beel gets a lot of his income from Fangoal sponsorships. Nobody actually knows where Belphie’s income comes from. He just kind of... gets it? There’s rumours that it’s hush money, but he’s never said and nobody’s sure how to ask and get an actual answer out of him.
- Unsurprisingly, Asmo makes the most, which the other brothers think is complete bullshit. It’s quickly followed by Belphie and Beel, then by Levi, then Satan, and Mammon makes the least.
- Lucifer doesn’t need a source of income. Anything he could want or need - more than that, even - is bought for him by Diavolo (heedless of anything he says against it). He’d have absolutely nothing to spend the money on, and if he did buy things for himself, he’d have no idea what to say to Diavolo when asked what the Prince can buy him.
- The brothers are EXPRESSLY FORBIDDEN from posting anything about things they want or debts they have, because it has happened in the past that they’ll mysteriously find a debt erased or the thing they wanted sent to the House of Lamentation, and Lucifer is honestly so exhausted with trying to get Diavolo to just stop buying them shit.
- Honestly, the only reason they get a set income at all is because Lucifer was too Proud to accept Diavolo’s original plan of “if you need something, let me know”. He’s already eternally indebted to the Prince as-is; he does not want to be in literal, actual monetary debt with him. At least if it’s a wage, he’s being paid for a service, and he can ensure that Diavolo isn’t just splurging a ridiculous amount of Grimm on them for the sake of spending.
- (As a side note, it’s also just a little less embarrassing to pay for any damages his brothers do out of pocket. Nothing was worse than, in those early days after the Fall, awkwardly looking somewhere to Diavolo’s right and biting out that he would very much be grateful if Diavolo could pay for a contractor to fix the outer wall of the House. And the interior wall of the House. And the Kitchen as a whole, actually.)
Bonus:
- MC gets an allowance that’s just a little less than what the Student Council members get. Though the Exchange Programme covers any Household expenses, like food, Diavolo wasn’t just going to let them end up there without something to spend. They can, of course, go out and work on top of that - just like the brothers do - but they don’t actually pay for anything beyond the things they want, so it’s genuinely not necessary. It’s even less necessary since Diavolo finds it much easier to sneak them away on shopping trips.
- Diavolo and MC frequently play a fun game of “how much can Diavolo buy MC before Lucifer figures out where they are and drags MC away!” The answer? A lot. Like, so much. There genuinely isn’t a more surreal - or admittedly hilarious - sight than watching the Avatar of Pride standing in front of the Prince of the Devildom with his arms crossed over his chest, tapping a foot against the floor, as Diavolo gently places down an absolutely obscene amount of bags filled with goodies solely for MC. Well, until Lucifer says, “And the rest,” and suddenly another, smaller bag is pulled out of his jacket.

Chapter 38: Star Death Reality Show (XXI) {cw: gore}
"The explosion just now was because Mark shot a rocket launcher underground, but as you can see, I’m unscathed. The origin of the rocket launcher is somewhat complicated. In fact, there's a huge research institute hidden in the underground beneath this village. Before, I met He Yi there..." Qi Leren explained the previous events, and the framing of his “miracle” made his words' credibility soar, full of brainwashing persuasiveness. Once he had recounted his story, three minutes had elapsed, and the illusory wings behind him gradually dissipated in the air, his feet set foot on the ground again, and the silvery spots of light around him disappeared.
But even though he had returned to his normal state, Lara couldn’tn't look at him the same way as before.
"You seem to have a lot of questions." Qi Leren stopped his story, stared at Lara, and spoke in a tone that was definitely not his usual voice.
"Yes... I... You... Who are you?" Lara asked.
Qi Leren smiled: "I have already answered this question."
Lara certainly remembered that he said he was an apostle of God. After this impact on her worldview, she obviously couldn't take this answer as a joke.
"You’re really..." Lara murmured. She was afraid of this answer from the bottom of her heart.
Qi Leren looked at her gently and nodded his head.
Lara took a step back and took a deep breath of cold air. The chill through her heart and lungs calmed her down, but there was a flame burning in her heart, burning her questioning heart.
Seeing was believing, however, and she had nothing to say.
"Now... What are we going to do?" Lara asked. She seemed to have lost her cognitive functions after the shock of this scene, and listened to the apostle's commands like a docile little sheep.
"A lot of things. There is only one mature octopus left, but we can't find him for the time being. There may be a few larvae that have just completed parasitism, and they won’t be too aggressive... Let's gather those who are still alive. We can enter the underground research institute, where there’s a machine that can detect whether someone has become a host," Qi Leren said.
They acted quickly. Jing Siyu and Jing Sixue were woken up in the middle of the night and were taken away in a daze. As they walked, Qi Leren kindly asked what they had done today, and found no abnormalities. He wasn’t sure whether these people were infected now, but they had no ability to spread in this the first day after being parasitized, so he wasn’t too worried. As long as he could take them to the instruments in the underground research institute.
Xue Jiahui, Mark, and Annie were dead, and there were only ten contestants who may be alive at present. Among them, one had a mature octopus in their body, and eight or nine times out of ten, this person was Francis. But looking at the present situation: Dr. Lu and Du Yue were missing, He Yi was also missing, and Francis was also missing.
Qi Leren and his party found Janet and Alex, who weren’t as obedient as the Jing sisters, but even those who didn’t want to cooperate were convinced after Qi Leren took out his handgun. Although Janet wanted to keep her mouth shut, when Qi Leren shot the vase beside her, she spoke honestly.
Qi Leren smiled kindly, looked at this group of people who had gone silent, and sincerely understood the joy of getting things through violence.
The five people were led back to Annie's house and were amazed when they entered the attic, as they hadn't thought that such a secret room was hidden in the house. When they entered the basement, the messy sight before their eyes and the lingering smoke that hadn’t yet dissipated silenced everyone.
Janet looked at Qi Leren with indecision. Although she had completely regarded the story Qi Leren told as a joke before, she was not those two young girls, Jing Siyu and Jing Sixue, who had gone pale with terror. She didn't believe anything about Leviathan or the amphioctopuses, but her woman's intuition made her keep her mouth shut and look at the situation coldly.
They entered the underground research institute through the blasted tunnel. Right now the power supply wasn’t connected, but Qi Leren knew where to turn on the backup power. He knew where to instruct the five people to go, and he stayed at the back in case of a sudden attack.
Lara, who walked at the front, was very careful all the way, and took a fire axe to defend herself when she passed a fire control station.
In this shadowy underground research institute, the dark and long tunnel was like being in the body of an ancient beast. Within the range illuminated by flashlights, there were dusty relics everywhere. When walking here, their empty footsteps echoed constantly, inspiring the most horrible images in everyone's brain.
Qi Leren suddenly felt that he heard footsteps. He stopped, listened to the sound for a moment, and there was the rush of running in the distance.
"Someone’s coming! Turn off the flashlights and stand against the wall," Qi Leren whispered.
The five people were taken aback, became nervous, and obeyed without thought.
The footsteps were getting closer and closer. Qi Leren stuck to the wall and took the safety off the gun in his hand.
"Huff, huff, huff..." The short breaths were getting closer and closer, and Qi Leren suddenly felt that the sound was a bit familiar. It seemed to be...
"Du Yue?" Just as the man ran around the corner of the corridor, Qi Leren called out his name.
Du Yue slammed on the brakes and almost lost his balance. He looked at Qi Leren with surprise: "Qianbei! Qianbei, are you all right?! You absolutely won’t believe what happened at that time, I—fuck, he's crazy!"
"Steady, speak slowly, where is Dr. Lu?" Qi Leren handed him a bottle of water, and Du Yue unscrewed the bottle cap and drank a few mouthfuls.
"What's going on?" Janet also asked in disbelief. She noticed that Du Yue had blood on his body.
"I ran away with Dr. Lu... He should be fine, that guy chased me." And after a pause, Du Yue told everyone what had happened.
Du Yue and Dr. Lu had found a second ID card  in the basement of an uninhabited house that could open the door to the corridor. They had also met Lara and asked her about Qi Leren. They had honestly said they didn't know, but they were looking for him. When they went to the basement in Jing Siyu’s house, they opened the door again and met Qi Leren inside. Qi Leren had turned back to cut off the institute’s power supply. As a result, shortly after the power supply was cut off, Francis actually entered the basement, holding a dagger in his hand.
"I... um... used some special means and ran away." Du Yue scratched his head, and Qi Leren knew as soon as he heard it that he had used the [Protagonist Halo] skill card.
But this was the first time he had heard of a “protagonist” using his full power to escape. Shouldn’t he have used it to kill him? This boy hadn’t followed the routine!
Qi Leren was a little worried about Dr. Lu, but on second thought, he felt that with his luck, he shouldn’t have any troubles—look, the monster had come after Du Yue at the critical moment. At most, he had probably fallen on the ground and screamed, and by now he might have found a safe place to hide. Qi Leren had great confidence in Dr. Lu’s ability to win by lying down.
"Don't panic, since Francis is using a dagger, we’ll have no problem at all, even if... Quiet, I hear something!" Qi Leren heard footsteps again, and he held his breath, listening to the footsteps getting closer and closer. Then they suddenly disappeared, as if the owner of the footsteps had already known of their existence.
The distance between them was very close, just around the corner.
The darkness before his eyes, the coldness of the air, and the heartbeats of him and those around him made him feel as if he was deep underwater.
Qi Leren could bear it, but the two little girls couldn't. Jing Sixue held her sister's hand tightly and pulled her back. The cloth rubbed in the dark, making a shuffling noise. This slight movement was just like a flame in the silence of night, which made the stagnant air burst out in an instant!
Dadadada! Suddenly there was the sound of a machine gun firing on the opposite side, and Qi Leren shouted: "Get down!"
The bullets ricocheted off the fall, brushing Qi Leren's cheek.
Fuck me, how has the enemy’s weapon already upgraded from a dagger to a machine gun!
No, you can't fight here, or the six people next to you will be in danger!
Qi Leren paid attention to the last time he had used his S/L skill. The cooling time of one hour had passed, so he could use it. This time, he again forgot the Prophet's warning. After saving, he got up and rushed around the corner. In the dark, the only light was that of the machine gun’s shots, and it lit up the world frame by frame. His body slid along the ground like a fish and he swept his leg out to knock Francis down.
Francis roared. The machine gun was too long to hit the Qi Leren who had gotten close to him. He discarded the machine gun and gripped Qi Leren's arms. His strength made him think that his bones would be broken.
After being parasitized by the octopus, Francis's body had mutated to be more like a strong man. Qi Leren, who had not fought closely with the octopuses before, suffered a dark loss at this point, and he easily fell to the ground. The revolver in his hand also flew out and hit the wall, clattering away to somewhere he couldn’t see.
Qi Leren couldn’t come up for air and almost fainted. Amidst his confusion, there was a loud thundering in his ears and something slammed against Francis's head. With the women’s screams, the strength holding Qi Leren became lessened, and Qi Leren broke free, rolled over, and coughed heavily on the ground.
Qi Leren endured the dizziness and nausea and looked up. An axe was stuck on the back of Francis's head. Du Yue pried Lara’s hands off the fire axe. Lara covered her mouth and collapsed against the wall, sniffling and repeating Francis's name.
"Qianbei, are you ok? I'll help you up." Du Yue kicked the flashlight he had just left behind and helped Qi Leren.
"He’s not dead, cough... the octopus in his body will come out soon..." Qi Leren knew the octopuses’ habits and warned hoarsely. He picked up his handgun from the ground and pointed it at Francis's brain. Every shot was accompanied by the sound of Lara’s exhausted crying.
Qi Leren was panting heavily. His throat had almost been crushed and there was still some damage, so that he couldn't speak loudly, but he still amplified his voice as much as possible: "Stand back! Run! The monster inside him is coming out!"
As if it had been called, as soon as Qi Leren finished speaking, Francis’s brain had been blown off, and Francis, whose body had fallen to the ground and was bleeding, suddenly moved.
Janet also collapsed. When she saw the first tentacle sticking out of Francis's broken head, the woman screamed in a soprano voice: "He's alive, he's still alive! Monster, monster!"

pairing: zhongli x gn!reader
content warnings: mentions of blood/injury/death, contemplations of/vaguely attempted murder, slight swearing. if these topics are sensitive to you, i'd recommend clicking away.

i.
[Name]'s life would be nothing without order. They found a certain comfort in routines—working at the bookshop with Jifang in the afternoons, working for their less-than-legal clients once night fell. There was an odd kind of safety they found in it, in completed contracts and crossed-out bounties on a board: as they wiped the blood off their blade at sunrise, they found themself glad they no longer lived at the whims of ice, and snow, and migrating deer.
Tonight was odd, though.
A dagger twirled deftly between their fingers, and [Name] raised an inquisitive eyebrow at the informant sitting before them. A mask and hood alike obscured his face, and he seemed almost to hesitate slightly beneath their burning gaze—a newbie, then, or a fool.
"So?" they asked, their voice like a whip-crack in the silence. "Don't waste my time."
"Apologies," he said, and [Name] had to resist the urge to scoff. At another raised eyebrow the informant dug through his things and passed them an envelope.
Gingerly, they tore it open. "...Wangsheng?" they muttered to themself, before glancing back up. "I trust you have the right compensation?"
A stiff, "Of course," was their only response.
The knife between [Name]'s fingers stilled, before it became embedded in the cheap wood next to their now-client's head.
They stood, gave an almost-mocking flourish of a bow, and walked off without another word.
ii.
[Name] did not glance up from the shelf they were restocking when the footsteps of another customer coming up the stairs came into earshot, only saying a gruff, "Welcome," as they grew closer.
Their only response was a content hum, and they resisted the urge to sigh in relief that this particular patron wasn't a chatterbox.
The minutes trickled by in comfortable silence, as the man—for he was a man, [Name] learned, as soon as they looked up and towards his direction—browsed through their selection. The only sounds to be heard were the blowing of the breeze and the idle chatter of people walking past.
"What a fine collection you have," he said, and turned to face the counter they were seated behind. At the sight of his face they were thrust back into two nights ago—an unpleasant evening in a dingy old house, an envelope in one hand and a cheap knife in the other.
Not now, they thought to themself. Not now, when the blood can seep into the floorboards. The smell will hang for days.
"Thank you," they elected to say in reply. "...Will you be buying?"
He nodded, a thoughtful hand on his chin. "Indeed. The entire stock, actually."
[Name] faltered. "The entire…?" They coughed into a fist, regaining their composure and leaning forward on the counter. "That's going to cost you, sir."
They could almost see the excited sparkles around him as he opened his mouth to speak again, and whatever thoughts they had on how elegant and refined he seemed were thrown out to sea.
"Yes, of course," he began, "there truly is no treasure greater than knowledge, after all—there is a subtle nuance to the art to capturing a moment in time so vividly using just words alone…"
As he continued to ramble, [Name] rested their chin on their palm. The daggers concealed beneath their clothes were cool and heavy on their skin—a constant reminder, a subtle threat.
When his voice trailed off they gave a small, polite smile, standing upright again. "If you have the Mora, there should be nothing stopping you, sir."
The faraway, almost dreamy look in his eyes grew lucid at the mention of Mora. "Ah, of course. Mora," he said, and started patting his pockets searching for his wallet.
When neither of them heard the telltale clinking of coins, they glanced at each other almost exasperatedly.
"My deepest apologies—"
"...No, it's okay—"
The knife still burned against their skin, but they brushed it aside for a moment to grab an unwrapped copy of a book under the desk. They held it out to him, their face blank but the faintest, faintest hints of amusement dancing in their eyes.
He was…interesting. Dead men can rarely boast as much.
 "Take it," they said, simply.
His eyes seemed to widen in pleasant surprise. "Are you certain?" he asked, and at [Name]'s casual shrug in the affirmative he gingerly took it from their hands.
"Thank you kindly," he said, raising the package in the air and inspecting it. "I'll have to repay you, for this."
They looked at him again, and thought of the envelope from the other night, thought of how they could almost feel his pulse as their fingers brushed just seconds prior.
"I'll hold you to it, then, sir," they elected to say.
Not now, not now, not now.
iii.
On his lips played a gentle smile that [Name] couldn't help but to distrust.
"There's a restaurant I believe you'd like," he had said. "Allow me to treat you for lunch, as thanks."
Their head had thus begun to swim with backup plans and what-ifs. Did he know? Was this some elaborate ruse to poison them? Surely not, right? They had been so careful up until now, too…
They blinked away their initial surprise and canted their head to the side. "Where?"
At that he went off onto another tangent, just as long as the ramble he had gone on a few days prior. [Name] found themself zoning out, glancing at where they knew his jugular was beneath his collar—or perhaps poison during their impromptu outing would fare better?
No, they scolded themself, there would be witnesses at a restaurant.
"...Don't worry, of course, I'll be sure to bring the Mora this time around," he said with a velvety laugh, and [Name] suddenly found themself back in the present.
They leaned forward on the bookstore counter, an eyebrow raised. "I don't even know your name, Mister Philanthropist."
Another smile graced his features, then—apologetic this time, and he outstretched a hand for them to shake. "My apologies," he said. "I am Zhongli, consultant for Wangsheng Funeral Parlor."
Gingerly, they took his hand in turn. They could feel the rhythmic beat-beat-beat of his pulse under their fingers.
Soon, they thought.
"Call me [Name]," they said, and forced themself to smile.
A few days later, it just so happened that both of their schedules were free.
"Would you still be willing to indulge me?" Zhongli asked—he had been visiting more often lately, and it just so happened that many of his visits happened to be on the days [Name] was there, as well. Jifang seemed curious, and honestly they were as well—did he enjoy their company? Was there something about their short, curt responses that didn't turn him away?
Or maybe he was planning something, too?
Nevertheless, despite their raging paranoia, it wasn't like they were in much of a position to complain. Jifang seemed content at their new, distinguished guest, and [Name] took it as an opportunity to learn more about him for the time being.
"...If you so wish," they said, plucking the book he was holding out of his hands to wrap it for him.
"Only if you do, my friend." Damn him and his deflection. "But it is my firm belief that the generous receive what is due to them, in time."
They hummed idly as they thumbed through the book he had chosen—something or other about the natural beauty of Inazuma—and then glanced back up at him.
And that was how they found themself here, they supposed.
Their table was relatively silent compared to some others, but it was by no means uncomfortable or awkward. With the idle chatter of other people and the clear sky above as a backdrop, the two dined in comforting silence—only the clinking of ceramic against each other to be heard, and to [Name]'s surprise, no traces of poison to be found whatsoever.
As the sun began to dip down the horizon, and all their food had been finished and the bill paid, the two found themselves taking a stroll down by the docks. Zhongli's gaze was trained ahead, while [Name]'s flitted about cautiously.
"Forgive me if I'm prying, however…" he began, "...But you're not a native, are you, my friend?"
A jolt, then, a bolt of white-hot fear running through their limbs. Did he know? Did they give themself away?
"I'm not," they said. "I was born abroad."
A satisfied hum was their response, and when they turned to glance at him, they found the smallest of smiles on his face.
"It's getting late," Zhongli said. "Thank you for today. I'd like to do this again, with you."
[Name] took pause at that. They thought once again of the envelope hidden under their drawers, and the knives hidden under their clothes.
They thought about the way Zhongli rambled on about whatever tale it was the storyteller across the street had spun—how "that indeed is one interpretation of it, but in the original text, the author actually meant to imply that…"
There was a pang of what almost felt like guilt in their chest, at that.
"...And I, you," they said, finally, "...my friend."
iv.
Perhaps stumbling into your supposed assassination target's home half-bloody with an arrow sticking out of your side was not the brightest idea, but in [Name]'s defense were two things: first of all, they had no fucking clue it was Zhongli's in the first place, and secondly, they couldn't exactly keep running from their angry former client with an arrow sticking out of their side.
And thus whatever levels of discretion they normally would have had were thrown out the window as they climbed into Zhongli's in the dead of night, and probably knocked something over in the process (if the new bruises were anything to go by).
(To be fair, they had been calling each other friends for a while now. Is this what friends did? [Name] couldn't be sure—their shady friends weren't exactly the best examples, after all.)
They had just sat up and groaned in pain when Zhongli came in, alarmed first at the noise and then at their sorry state.
"...Sorry," they muttered through gritted teeth. "Thought the place was empty—ow, shit! I can—I can do it mysel—"
"Nonsense," he said, his voice and hands firmer than they had noticed before. "...I still haven't repaid you for your favour to me, after all."
They stopped for a moment, at that. "...I thought the lunch was repayment?"
Somehow, Zhongli found it in himself to laugh, albeit tensely. From where they were sitting, they could see his face a lot more clearly than they had before—the tenseness in his brow, the flecks of gold in his amber irises, the way his nose crinkled at the density of the smell of blood.
"No," he replied, "that was a thank you."
They hummed, before hissing in pain again. "Pull the other way; the arrowhead went in at an angle—"
"Ah, yes, my mistake…"
[Name] continued, "I suppose this is your repayment, then?"
They only barely hid their surprise when he shook his head again.
"I'm doing this because I want to, [Name]."
(Somehow, they liked their name better when hearing it from him. Was it the timbre of his voice? Was it the appeal of hearing your name from a man who was supposed to be long-dead?)
"...I see."
As he sealed the last of the bandages and allowed them to adjust their clothes, he helped them over to what they assumed was a guest room, of sorts. He helped them to take a seat on shaky legs, and placed a firm, almost comforting hand on their shoulder.
"Promise me you'll be more careful, my friend."
They glanced away, their face oddly warm. Wasn't blood loss supposed to do the opposite? "I can't guarantee that, Zhongli."
He followed their gaze over to the floor, and then glanced back at them. "If not that, then I'd at least ask you to…rely on me more," he said, and something about the sincerity in his voice struck them as odd.
They almost wanted to burn that envelope in their drawers when they went home.
[Name] glanced back up at him, forcing themself to face his questioning gaze.
"...I'll try."
But only for you.
+1.
In [Name]'s life, there exists a line they do not dare themself to cross. On one side stands sweet Jifang from the bookshop, the tenacious Traveller and their friends, and the ghosts of their loved ones from Inazuma; and on the other stands themself and their other shadowy benefactors.
The first to tread the line between the two was Zhongli—who, despite the bounty on his head, still managed to maneuvre his way into them somehow being able to call him their friend.
Honestly. The Seven damn him and his stupid charisma, and his stupid voice, and his stupid encyclopedic knowledge of silk flowers.
When [Name] woke up, they were not in their home.
Through their shock they failed to register the bandages wound around their torso, and bit back a yelp of pain as the wound threatened to reopen. In the dark they could see their overwear folded neatly on the bed next to them, and Zhongli asleep, slumped over in a chair.
Suddenly, they were acutely aware of the old bone knife under their clothes—their only souvenir from home, unstained by blood for years, and years, and years.
Would Zhongli be its first, then?
Quietly they stood and dug through their folded clothes until they felt it—the uneven blade, the worn-down grooves near the hilt. They skulked their way over to where he slept, and tried to ignore how painfully peaceful his slow, even breaths were.
His eyes fluttered open just as they pressed the blade to his throat. He seemed too calm, though, not even a twitch of his hands or a hitch in his breath to give away any surprise at all. All he did was place a loose grip on their wrist—a stark contrast to their white-knuckled, shaking hand—and ask,
"What are you doing, [Name]?"
They grit their teeth. "...I'm sorry," they said, "but I have a contract to complete."
Something in Zhongli's eyes softened at that. This was his domain, they realised—contracts, and contingencies, and wordplay.
His grip on their wrist tightened, ever so slightly, and he traced his free hand over their clenched jaw. "But so do we," he replied. "I've still never paid you back, after all."
There was a pause, then—a long, pregnant silence.
"May I kiss you?" Zhongli asked, his voice like a whip-crack in the space between them. [Name] said nothing, but the crease between their brows deepened further.
The dagger embedding itself into the floor and the soft, firm press of their lips against his was enough of an answer.

Terrigenisis (Part 4)
Tumblr media
Pairing: Avengers X Inhuman!Reader
Words: 3151
Summary: After undergoing terrigenisis unwillingly your life is turned upside down when you are deemed too dangerous to return to life as a civilian. You are put with the Avengers team to train and rebuild. As you hone your powers and skills, you must also decide if you can find home and love again. Or is your curse to be a lonely wanderer forever?
Part 1  / Part 2 /  Part 3
—————————————
Two weeks after getting Dizzy you had learned to use her sense of smell and had adapted to her ability to hear higher pitched noises. She took to warging well and allowed you use and control of her body often. With some coaxing Redtail had formed a friendly bond with her as well. Everyone on the team loved having her around and she especially loved Bucky and Wanda.
You were hanging out in Wanda's room with her and Nat when the topic of conversation turned to dating. Yet again.
"So, really? No one?" Wanda asks.
"You've been spending a lot of time with Bucky and Steve. Neither of them?" Nat smirks.
You roll your eyes at both of them. "Just because you two are happily paired off doesn't mean I have to be. I'm fine for right now. I'm concentrating on becoming an Avenger after being an Average Jill for the majority of my life."
"You were never average." Nat scoffs.
"And things with you and Bruce are good?" You eye Nat.
"Yeah. I adore him." She says.
"Aw, Nat, you're so freaking cute." You giggle with Wanda.
"You are really cute together." Wanda says.
"Wanda! What are you doing?" You look over to see her calmly painting Dizzy's nails a bright shade of red. Dizzy looks at you and tilts her head.
"She wanted her nails done." Wanda smiles while continuing to paint.
"Really, Diz? You wanted your nails done?" You laugh as Dizzy just tilts her head again and then looks back to Wanda and slaps her unpainted paw down as if demanding the same attention be paid to it. Wanda and Nat both laugh at the dog's antics.
FRIDAY pipes in just then asking you to meet Steve in the conference room. Your brow furrows and you look at your two friends. "Why would Steve be calling me to a meeting?"
Nat shrugs and Wanda says, "I don't know."
"I guess I shouldn't keep him waiting. Can Diz stay with you?"
"Of course." Wanda says.
You reach the conference room to find Steve, Bucky, and Tony waiting for you.
"Close the door, please." Tony says.
Your stomach knots as you comply. "Is there a problem?"
"No, not at all." Steve smiles at you.
"Okay." You sigh in relief. "What's going on?"
"Starting today you're cleared for missions, Zootopia." Tony's nickname for you would usually cause you to roll your eyes, but your excitement far outweighs your annoyance.
"What? Really?" You look to Steve and Bucky for confirmation.
"Really, Doll." Bucky says.
"Welcome to the Avengers." Steve smiles. "Your hard work and initiative have proven you to be a great addition. You'll be teamed up for the first several missions but I have no doubt you'll prove more than capable."
"Thank you, Steve. Bucky, Tony, you too. I know I was flung at you guys. Thank you. I'll do my absolute best."
"We know, kid. First mission is tomorrow." Tony says and exits.
“Congratulations, Doll.” Steve says with a smile.
“Thank you!” You jump into his arms for a hug and he chuckles.
“My turn!” Bucky holds out his arms.
“Thank you, Bucky.” You hug him and he lifts you off the ground.
“Proud of you.” Bucky grins.
“Get some rest. Big day tomorrow.” Steve says.
--
You join the team for the briefing the next morning. The team was to take out a Hydra base and retrieve intel. You would go as a scout with Redtail and backup if needed. You understood your part being small for the first mission. It was a chance to get your feet wet.
You were excited to see the team in action. You boarded the quinjet and placed Redtail in a specially made container for her.
Wanda smiled and motioned for you to come sit by her.
"How do you feel?" Wanda asked.
"Excited. Nervous. Feels strange, ya know? I mean, a year and a half ago I was, I don't know, boring, average. Now, I'm an Avenger with Inhuman powers. Surreal! That's the word for it." You babble.
"You'll do great." Wanda squeezes your hand.
"Thanks. I've had some great trainers." You catch Bucky's eye and smile. He winks back at you.
As soon as you land, you release Redtail and warg. Flying above the trees you easily make out the base and do a quick survey of the surroundings.
"What do you see?" Steve asks.
"It looks quiet. There's two guards near the front and three, four patrolling. Wait… something's being unloaded on the north side of the building."
"Can you see what it is?" Steve tenses.
"Unlabeled crates. I'm sorry I can't give you more." You say.
"Find a perch and watch them. Stay on comms and let us know if you see anything more. Head on a swivel and keep your weapon at the ready." Steve directs.
"Understood. Good luck."  You pull your sidearm out as directed.
The others move out. The sure-footed team of a thousand missions makes their movements seem effortless.
You find a position for Redtail in a tree and watch the unloading hoping they'll decide to open one or hear them talking about the shipment. Unfortunately, the three men that are unloading seem to only be interested in talking about their need for female companionship and the lack of it near the base until a fourth comes out of the base telling them to hurry up. Moments later Cap's shield flies through the air knocking out two of the guards. A double tap rings out taking the remaining two men out of the equation. You watch as Bucky's metal arm rips open the top of one container to reveal a stash of guns.
"Just a weapons shipment." Bucky informs Cap.
"Lay a charge." Cap orders, then looks up to Redtail. "Check the perimeter."
You have Redtail take flight immediately and circle above. The rest of the team checks in from their various entry points and the comms fill with sounds of fighting as each team encounters Hydra agents. You spot a convoy of three trucks heading towards the compound.
"We've got company. Three trucks approaching the north entrance. Three miles out. They see those guards laid out…"
"Copy. We’re gonna need your help. Secure the jet and meet me at the west entrance.” Cap says.
“Copy.” You jump into action doing your best to shake off your nerves. You join Cap and Bucky and follow them to the north side of the building where the rest of the team sans Nat and Sam are gathered.
“Where’s Nat and Sam?” You ask Bucky.
“Securing the intel.” Bucky says. “Stay close to me, Doll. Okay?”
You nod and watch as the small convoy makes it to the entrance. The rest of the team had cleared out the agents left behind earlier. As the Hydra agents unload from the truck you watch them through Redtail.
“Four in each truck. 12 total.” You let everyone know.
“Let’s go.” Cap says.
The team moves and spreads out to take out the Hydra agents. With a gun in each hand you follow Bucky into the fray and within seconds have made your first kill. You feel it with your whole body and don’t take lightly that you have just ended someone’s life. When the threats are neutralized, you follow Bucky to inspect the contents of the trucks. More crates of weapons means more charges to set and Bucky works through it quickly.
Steve pulls you aside a few minutes later. “Are you okay?”
You nod. “I’m good.”
“You’re on adrenaline right now. You might feel different later. Talk to me if you need to.” Steve says.
“Will do. Does Nat need any help?”
“Nat, status.” Cap calls over comms.
“Heading your way.” Nat says.
“What can I do?” You ask Steve.
“You and Clint get back to the jet and you continue to scout with Redtail. We won’t be much longer.” Steve motions to Clint.
You and Clint make your way to the jet. “Hey, you doing okay?”
“Yeah, I’m good.” You say.
“Adrenaline. You…” Clint begins but stops when you laugh.
“I’m sorry. Steve’s already done the adrenaline spiel. I promise I will talk to someone if I need to. I don’t take it lightly that I just took a life, but right now I’m okay. Thank you, Clint.” You smile.
“Alright. You keep guard. I’m going to get the jet ready to take off as soon as the team returns.” Clint heads to the cockpit.
“On it.” You say.
“By the way, Bucky being all protective with his stay with me was adorable.” Clint grins.
“Shut it, Clint.” You grouse.
“I’m surprised he didn’t make you hold his hand.” Clint laughs.
“Get the jet ready, asshat.” You roll your eyes.
Twenty minutes later, the team had regrouped at the jet and you had put Redtail back into her container. Bucky detonates the charges leaving the Hydra base in a swirl of flames and debris. As the jet takes off, he makes his way over to you.
"You okay, Doll?" He says, concern on his face.
"I'm good. The adrenaline is wearing off, though. I might collapse any minute." Your sarcasm coming out.
"Steve gave you the adrenaline speech, huh?" Bucky smiles.
"And Clint." You say.
"How was your first mission?" He asks.
"I think it went well." Your brow furrows as you look to him for confirmation.
"I think so, too." Steve says from your other side. "I think it went very well."
"Thanks, Steve." You smile at him.
Sam comes up and throws an arm around you, "I, for one, have no problem with you watching my six. And Redtail did great, too. Now, how are we celebrating your first mission?"
"How do you guys usually celebrate?" You ask.
"Go out, stay in, it just depends on who's deciding." Sam says.
"Then I request Mexican food and margaritas. Lots and lots of margaritas." You giggle.
"Oh, this is gonna be fun. Tony!" Sam gets the billionaire's attention.
"What did Zootopia pick?" Tony smirks.
"Mexican food and Margaritas!" Sam calls.
"I like your style, kid." Tony smiles.
When the team arrives back at the compound everyone gets ready for a night out. After checking in with Nat and Wanda to see what they're wearing you decide on a cute outfit, a little more makeup than you normally wear, and to let your hair fall naturally. Looking in the mirror you feel you've done yourself justice and make your way to the common room as Tony is having FRIDAY broadcasts that "departure is imminent."
Tony had ordered a limo to take you into town because with Tony, why not? You are sandwiched on one side between Sam and Clint for the ride and listen as the two try to out joke the other. You are laughing hysterically at the two of them. Tony had reserved a large room for you all at an upscale Mexican restaurant and food and drinks flowed. You drank your first margarita in no time flat and ordered a second.
"Slow down, chica. We got all night." Sam jokes from your right.
"Don't worry. I'm not planning on getting white girl wasted, Sam." You laugh.
"What exactly is 'white girl wasted'?" Steve asks from your left.
"It means to drink until you make a fool of yourself by dancing on the table and other shenanigans." You laugh.
"Let her drink all she wants." Bucky says from across from you.
"Not happening, Buck." You wink at him.
Food came and went, drinks and conversation flowed and everyone was having a blast. Towards the end of the night you were laughing with Sam and leaned your head on his shoulder while you two flirted innocently. You noticed Bucky scowling at something and mugged a face at him.
Bucky smiles at you, "So, when does the table dancing start?"
"I second that." Tony pipes up.
You laugh, "Haha. I'm not that wasted. Besides, you have to have the right music for it. I don't think this works very well." You point at the speaker with slow music coming through.
"Oh, I can fix that." Tony whips his phone out. "That's okay, Tony." You shake your head at him. "Maybe next time."
"You're breaking my heart!" Tony smirks.
"Better than me breaking my neck trying to dance on the table." You laugh. At this point, you're good and tipsy. The happy, relaxed kind of tipsy, but not drunk. Steve is kind enough to give you his arm as you head back to the limo. You sit between him and Bucky on the way home and try to fight sleep. You're exhausted.
Steve sees your struggle and pulls you into his shoulder. "It's okay, Doll. I've got you." He whispers as you doze off on him.
The next thing you know you've arrived back at the compound. Steve helps you to your room since his room is right next door. You manage to wash your face and brush your teeth before crawling into bed. Sleep returns swiftly.
A few hours later, a nightmare begins. The face of the man you shot flashes in your mind and then is replaced by Charlie's. Charlie lays on the ground, bleeding from your gunshot as you desperately try to stop it. He dies in front of you again and this time your hands are covered in his blood.
You wake on a sob and sit up. Curling up into yourself, you cry. You remind yourself it was just a stupid dream. A matrix of your day's experience. Having known nothing of the man who died, your mind replaced him with the one person you had cared for the most and watched die in front of you. Watched as he crumbled under your hands when you tried to dig him out of the chrysalis. "Survivor's guilt" the psychologist had labeled your feelings.
Dizzy, hearing your distress, jumps into the bed and nuzzles against you.
"Thanks, girl. I love you, too. I'm okay." You reassure her. You look at the clock 4:45 and decide there's no use trying to go back to sleep. "How about an early run?" You ask. Dizzy perks up. You change and head out.
Warging, you let a wide awake Redtail know about the run if she wants to fly along.
"Hey."
You turn towards the voice to see Steve and Bucky approaching.
"Whoa! Sorry, wasn't expecting your eyes to be yellow. Redtail okay?" Steve asks.
"She's fine." Your eyes return to their usual color as you drop the warg. "I was just letting her know Dizzy and I were going on an early run. What are you guys doing?"
"Going on our usual run." Bucky says.
"Oh, I didn't know. Probably because I'm not usually up this early." You laugh lightly.
"Why are you up this early?" Steve asks.
"Bad dream. Guess the adrenaline and alcohol finally wore off." You give a self-deprecation smile.
"Wanna tell us about it, Doll?" Bucky asks.
“The Hydra agent. I shot him and he turned into Charlie. I couldn’t save him.” You looked down as a tear rolled down your cheek.
You feel yourself engulfed by the two men. Each of them wrapping an arm around you. Bucky’s metal arm around your waist and Steve’s arm around your shoulders. You felt a kiss press to your head. You leaned into them, wrapping your arms around each of them. You leaned on their strength and understanding, their friendship and kindness. It was a lifeline in that moment. A balm to a painful wound, reopened.
“Thank you.” You whisper, giving one last squeeze and pulling away.
“You okay?” Steve asks.
“I’m okay.” You nod. “Dreams are just made of the things we remember. I know that. I’m fine.”
“You sure, Doll?” Bucky says.
“I’m sure. I’m gonna take Dizzy out. I wonder if she can keep up with you guys.” You smile.
“We’ll have to see, huh, Dizzy? Come on, girl.” Steve encourages the dog along.
You go out together, but you tell the guys to go for their run. They far outpace you in minutes. Dizzy starts to follow them, but you call her back and she obeys. Redtail calls from above as you run causing Dizzy to bark and you smile. You run the five mile loop you’d carved for yourself. The guys made it back shortly after you.
“You guys look worn out. Man, I don’t know if you two can handle the runs you put yourselves through at your age.” You smirk at them.
Bucky gives you an evil look before grabbing you and throwing you over his shoulder. “I could run it again carrying you and still be just fine, sweetheart.”
“Bucky! Put me down!” You shriek.
“What’s the matter? You can dish it out, but you can’t take it?” Bucky taunts.
“I don’t recall manhandling you!” You laugh as he jogs in a circle jouncing you. “James Buchanan Barnes!”
“Alright.” He chuckles as he sets you down.
However, your relief is short lived when Steve immediately picks you up the same way. “Really!?!” you shout while struggling against his hold.
“I believe you smart mouthed us both, so I guess we both get to manhandle you in return.” Steve laughs while spinning you around.
“Steve, you’re gonna make me puke!” You squeal.
“Am I?” Steve laughs as he spins a few more times.
“Steven Grant Rogers!” You shout and land a resounding smack to America’s ass. Steve nearly drops you from the shock but manages to put you down somewhat gently. “I’m so sorry!” You stare up at him with wide eyes and your hands covering your mouth. “I just reacted. I didn’t think. I’m so sorry, Steve!”
Bucky begins guffawing at the two of you. He’s bent over double laughing as you and Steve stare at each other. It wasn’t until Steve cracked a smile that you were finally able to breath again. The three of you laughed at the ridiculous situation you find yourselves in.
When the mirth is spent, you look at Steve and say again, “Really, I’m so sorry.”
“It's fine, Doll.” Steve throws an arm around you.
“This is great. Now, I can tell everyone you spanked America’s ass.” Bucky begins laughing again.
“Oh my God, you better not!” You laugh.
“Bucky.” Steve warns. Bucky merely grins at him.
“Okay, guys. Time for training and then showers. Let’s go.” You announce.
“Look who’s being the drill sergeant now.” Bucky jokes.
“Looks good on her.” Steve says.
“What doesn’t?” You reply playfully and twirl around heading to the elevator.
“Hot.” Bucky says under his breath to Steve.
“Damn right.” Steve says.
“I can still hear you.” You call back with a grin. They both just grin back without a care. You shake your head at the two of them. They still didn't realize you knew about them.

Song of a Caged Bird (Kagami Zine)
Hi everyone! I participated in the @kagamizine this summer, and the whole zine is out now! Please go check out the whole thing and show all of the creators some love because everyone worked super hard and all of the pieces came out amazing!
For my piece I decided to go with some girl squad bonding cause I want more of it in canon. Let Kagami have a group of loving gal pals!
Read on AO3
“Wait, you’ve never had a sleepover?”
Marinette’s jaw hung slack as Kagami took a slow sip of her juice and averted her gaze. The warm spring sunlight filtered through the trees, tiny birds flitting through the branches. Kagami envied them a little getting to spread their wings and fly away from home. A chance to be free. She turned back to Marinette and pursed her lips.
“I’ve never really been allowed to have friends. Even in Japan, I was always home training and studying,” she said, swirling her drink around with a frown. “My mother views such things as unnecessary and distracting.”
“But she let you be friends with Adrien and now me,” Marinette offered. She had a way of making anything seem positive. It was admirable, but unfortunately in this case, it didn’t work.
“Adrien is an elite fencing partner and potential suitor in her eyes. Nothing more,” she said. “And you’re…an exception. To keep me from rebelling, but even with us, the only time we’re allowed to hang out is to get juice once a week. This is my mother’s idea of friendship.”
“Well, maybe that can change. After all, you went from not being allowed to have any friends to being allowed to have at least one. Maybe she’ll have a change of heart,” Marinette said as a red car rolled up to the curb.
“I doubt it, but thank you, Marinette,” Kagami said, standing up and bowing. “If this is all I can have, then I will happily accept it. I’m glad to call you my friend.”
“Me too, Kagami,” Marinette said, hopping up to hug her goodbye. Kagami wasn’t usually one for hugs, but for Marinette, she made an exception. It felt nice.
“I’ll see you next week,” Kagami said, climbing in the car.
“Yeah. See you.” Marinette smiled though the sentiment didn’t reach her eyes.
She knew it must have been eating away at her. Marinette liked to help her friends after all, but there was nothing she could do. This would always be Kagami’s life. There was no way around it.
***
“Okay, girls, we have to do something,” Marinette said later that evening, pacing back and forth across her bedroom floor. “Kagami is all alone, and she’s never had friends before. She likes to act tough, but I can tell how sad it makes her.”
“Okay, but her mom is literally a huge brick wall. No way she just lets Kagami have a sleepover with us,” Alix said pointedly.
“Yeah, M. She’s ten times as strict and overprotective as Gabriel,” Alya added. “I get that you want to help Kagami, we all do, but in this case, I don’t think there’s anything we can do.”
“We’ve got to try! I’m sure we can get through to her mom if we ask really, really nicely,” she said, but when her friends didn’t seem convinced, she pressed her palms together. “Come on, please?”
“Okay, fine. We will help you talk to Kagami’s mom, but seeing as this plan is bound to fail-”
“It’s definitely going to fail,” Alix said.
“-we need to be ready with a backup,” Alya finished.
“What kind of backup?” Mylene asked, tilting her head to the side.
“Well, if her mom says no, which she likely-”
“Definitely,” Alix added.
“-will, we need to think of another way to help Kagami get to the sleepover,” Alya said, and Marinette quirked a brow.
“Are you suggesting-”
“Yep.” Alya’s lips curled into a crooked grin. “We’re going to sneak Kagami out.”
***
“Stand up straighter.”
Kagami tensed under her mother’s demand, but adjusted her posture nonetheless. She was used to her cold tone, and during practice, Kagami saw her more as a drill-sergeant than a mother. It was better to do as she was told without question. Even without sight, Kagami’s mother knew every wrong move she made. On most days, she’d push harder to get everything right, but today her mind wandered, replaying her last conversation with Marinette.
All her life, she’d done as she was told and never questioned. She’d let herself become numb to the patronizing voices and walled herself off from feeling. Never before had she paid much thought to making friends or playing outside – those things were luxuries Kagami couldn’t afford. Her days were spent training to be the best, so sacrifices had to be made, but all of that changed when she moved here.
When she met Adrien and Marinette.
Her friends.
When she was allowed to have fun for the first time - to be disobedient, even for a little while. Kagami had never considered such things before, didn’t dare. But like a child tasting sugar for the first time, once she had a taste, she wanted more. What made her so different from everyone else?
“Your form is sloppy today,” her mother said. “Perhaps you’re sluggish from drinking so much orange juice.”
“No, mother, I’m just a little tired, that’s all,” she said, squeezing her eyes shut to push the thoughts from her brain. Her vision blurred with hot tears as she ran through the maneuver again, but midway through, she faltered at the sight of her friends approaching her mother on the park bench.
“Um, hello, Mme. Tsurugi,” Marinette said when Alya pushed her forward.
“What is the meaning of this? Kagami, did you invite your friends to interrupt your training?” Her mother’s head snapped in her direction, and despite her mother’s lack of sight, Kagami shrank a little under her stare.
“No, mother. I didn’t invite them,” Kagami said, hoping to portray what a horrible idea this was to Marinette with a look. Still, she was touched that her friends would even try.
“She’s telling the truth, ma’am,” Alya interjected, and her mother tapped her finger on her walking stick with a frown.
“Why have you disrupted my private training with my daughter?” She snapped, and Marinette bit back a wince.
“Well, you see, ma’am, my friends and I are planning to have a sleepover tonight, and we were wondering if Kagami could-”
“No.” Her reply was clipped, final, leaving no room for argument, at least Kagami thought so, but Marinette squared her shoulders and took a breath.
“I know you’re very protective of your daughter, but she’s just a kid. She should be allowed to have fun every now and then,” Marinette said, and instant regret flashed on her face as her mother stood up.
“How dare you tell me what is best for my daughter! I am her mother, and she will do as I say!” Tomoe said, brandishing her stick like a sword, and her friends shrank back.
“Mother!” Kagami stepped in, batting the stick away with her boken. “Please, they are just trying to do something nice for me. They mean no harm.”
Her mother lowered her stick, but the tension remained in her shoulders. “Tell them goodbye, Kagami. We have work to do.”
“Yes, mother,” Kagami said, lowering her head as she turned back to Marinette. “I’m sorry, but I’m in the middle of training right now. I’m going to have to ask you to leave.”
“I understand,” Marinette said, pulling her in for a hug.
Kagami clung tightly, soaking up all of Marinette’s warmth in hopes of defrosting the cold ache surrounding her heart. Marinette’s hand slipped into her pocket, and she blinked in confusion when Marinette pulled away and winked. As the girls made their retreat, Kagami traced her fingers over the outline of a note, her heart skipping. The small slip of paper weighed heavy in her pocket throughout the rest of her practice until she returned home to her room and read its contents.
Pack a bag. We’ll pick you up at 9:30
Kagami sat back against her pillows, heart pounding. Her friends were either the coolest people in the world or the craziest, but she was already counting the seconds.
***
“I think we need a new plan,” Alix said as the girls stared up at the tall wall surrounding the Tsurugi estate that could rival Adrien’s or the local prison.
“I don’t suppose any of you brought a ladder or a set of wings,” Mylene said, and Marinette pursed her lips, desperately searching for a way over and coming up empty.
“Not only is that wall insanely tall, but Kagami’s family manufactures crazy technology. I bet their whole house is booby-trapped to keep intruders out and more importantly, keep Kagami in,” Alix said, crossing her arms over her chest. “It was a good idea in theory, but I think we should abort mission.”
“But we promised Kagami we’d come get her,” Marinette said, whipping around to face them when the walls refused to give up their secrets.
“Actually, you promised Kagami,” Alix shot back, and the other girls winces spoke to their agreement.
“Your heart is in the right place. It’s just not possible, M,” Alya said, wrapping an arm around her shoulders.
“Yeah, you’d need superpowers to be able to get inside,” Mylene said, and Marinette’s spine stiffened.
She spun around again to examine the wall then flicked her gaze down to her purse. It was risky, but…
“I’ve got an idea,” Marinette said, taking off up the street.
“Where are you going?” Alya called, and Marinette plastered on a suspicious grin.
“Uh, I might know a way to get Kagami out, but I’ve gotta run and get it, you girls stay here, I’ll be right back!” She said, dashing up the street.
“I know what you’re thinking, and it’s out of the question,” Tikki said, popping out of her collar as they rounded the corner.
“No one will suspect anything,” Marinette promised, but Tikki simply frowned.
“That’s not the point, Marinette! Your powers aren’t meant to be used for-”
“Selfish reasons, I know, but is this really selfish? I mean, my job isn’t just to protect the city from akumas. Part of being a hero means giving people hope, and don’t you think Kagami needs a hero right about now?” Marinette said, ducking behind a car. “My powers are meant to help people, and what good are they if I don’t use them to do just that?”
Tikki weighed it for a moment before sighing. “Okay, but just be careful.”
“I will,” Marinette said, brushing her cheek with a finger. “Tikki, spots on!”
***
Kagami glanced at the clock for the hundredth time, nerves bubbling in her stomach with each tick.
9:46
Her friends were running late. Maybe they weren’t coming at all. No, she shook her head. Marinette promised, and she was always true to her word. They would come. Kagami just had to wait, but as the minutes past, those worries turned to doubts. What if her mother had scared them away? What if they didn’t like her anymore? What if…
Tap tap tap
Kagami jumped at the knock on her window, surprised by the person dangling on the other side.
“Ladybug?” She blinked as she pulled the window open.
“Someone requested a taxi service,” the heroine said with a smile, and at Kagami’s bewildered expression explained, “I was out patrolling when I ran into your friends outside the gate, and when they told me what they were up to, I offered to help. So, are you coming?”
Kagami flicked her gaze down to her outstretched hand. She smiled, shifting her bag over her shoulder, and placing her hand in Ladybug’s without a second thought, and the world around them flew by as Ladybug leapt over the other side of the wall to her friends. To freedom.
The girls were waiting on the sidewalk, and Kagami teared up when their faces brightened at the sight of her. They’d all come after all. All of them, except for one.
“Where’s Marinette?” Kagami asked, glancing around, and Ladybug stepped away.
“Uh, I’ll go find her for you guys and tell her to meet you at her house,” she said, waving them on. “Have fun with your sleepover!”
“Thanks for your help, Ladybug!” Alya said.
“Yeah, you rock,” Alix added, and Ladybug smiled before shooting off into the rooftops.
Kagami found herself surrounded by bodies as the girls pulled her in for a tight hug. She could barely breathe, but in a weird way, it felt nice.
“We are going to have so much fun! We’ve got movies and games and face masks, oh! And Mr. Dupain baked us special personalized macarons, and-” Rose rattled on while they walked, and Kagami took in the buildings with new eyes.
She’d snuck out. She’d snuck out. The streets were dark, but they’d never been more vibrant in her eyes. Her limbs were lighter, coursing with adrenaline as the tall walls grew distant, and with each step, her smile grew wider. She wasn’t sure she’d ever smiled this much, and it was starting to hurt her cheeks. But she didn’t care. This was…fun.
When they made it to Marinette’s front door, the absent girl came rushing from the other direction, stopping in front of them to catch her breath.
“Girl, where were you?” Alya asked, placing her hands on her hips.
“Sorry…I was…fireman…ladder…it was… You’re out!” She extended her arms to Kagami who was finding that she really liked hugs.
“You’ll never guess who helped us bail her out of jail,” Mylene said with a wicked grin.
“Uh, yeah, she explained everything to me. We got really lucky that Ladybug passed by. My plan to borrow a fire truck ladder was a long shot,” Marinette said, rubbing the back of her neck. “But the most important thing is that you’re free, Kagami, and tonight is your very first sleepover.”
“Girls, I just took a hot pizza out of the oven,” Marinette’s father announced, opening the door, and Marinette and Alya took Kagami’s hands, pulling her inside.
Marinette’s home was warm as if the heat of the ovens below had seeped into the bricks. The air felt different, lighter, sweeter, and Kagami realized that the warmth inside wasn’t from an oven, but from the people who lived there. Kagami had many houses. There was one here in Paris and two in Japan, but she’d never realized before now that none of them felt like this. That she’d never truly been home.
“So, Kagami, if you and Marinette ever had to fight for Adrien, who do you think would win?” Alix asked a while later after they’d stuffed themselves on pizza and watched some cheesy movie about a teen girl falling in love with her neighbor, and Alya whacked her in the arm. “What?”
“Alix! That’s not-”
“Well, considering my years of training and expertise in several styles of sword fighting and archery, I could best her easily in any combat scenario, though I do suppose she might have an advantage in strength seeing as she has lifted heavy sacks of flour in the bakery for many years, but strength can only take an inexperienced fighter so far before skill becomes a necessity,” Kagami answered, and the girls all stared at her in shock.
Just when she was starting to worry that she’d said something wrong, she was blinded by the soft fabric of a pillow. She blinked up at Marinette who wore a mischievous grin and saw the other girls arming themselves. It was an odd ritual for friends to beat each other with pillows, but that’s what made it so fun (and in the end, Kagami did prove herself victorious with very minor damage to anyone which was a stark contrast to how most of her fencing bouts ended, and Adrien had the bruises to prove it).
They talked. They ate so many sweets that Kagami wasn’t sure she remembered how to move. She laughed so hard, her sides hurt. If all sleepovers were like this, she understood why Marinette felt it so important for her to attend. Every girl should get to have fun like this, even just once.
“Are you having a good time?” Marinette asked as she painted Kagami’s nails a sparkly ruby red.
“Yes,” Kagami said with a nod, studying her every move. “I’ve never had my nails painted before. They’re beautiful.”
“I can paint them for you whenever you want. Your mom never has to know,” Marinette said with a wink, and Kagami smiled down at her fingers, watching the light catch the color.
“Thank you for all of this, Marinette. I am honored to have friends like you,” she said, and the warmth in Marinette’s eyes bore the same sentiment.
“Maybe one day we can convince your mom to let you out for real, but until then, we’re always here for you, okay?” Marinette said, and Kagami couldn’t help it. She hugged her.
She couldn’t really describe how she felt, but nestled between her friends on the floor of Marinette’s living room that night, she knew it was a feeling she’d never forget. When her alarm went off at 5:30, she hadn’t slept a wink, but her mind was alive with excitement, replaying the night over and over and over. It was time to return to her home before her mother woke and found her missing, and despite the stiffness of the floor or Rose’s elbow jabbing her side, Kagami wanted to lay there for just a minute longer, surrounded by her friends.
“Hey, we have to get you home,” Marinette yawned, shaking her shoulder.
They left the other girls asleep and made their way out into the quiet streets where businessmen and women were heading to their favorite bakeries. Neither one said much, and Kagami wasn’t quite sure if Marinette was truly awake, but when they arrived at her house, Marinette turned to her with a smile.
“Sorry you have to leave before breakfast. My dad always goes all out,” Marinette said. “But I’m glad you got to come.”
“Me too. Thank you for everything.” Kagami bowed, but she hesitated in the gate, biting her lip. “I’m glad we’re friends, Marinette.”
Marinette’s sunny expression said she felt the same way, and Kagami replayed the evening as she made her way inside. She was already dressed and ready when her mother woke up and met her in the tatami room for morning meditation.
“You seem happy this morning, Kagami,” her mother remarked as she took her place beside her.
Kagami smiled down at her ruby red nails and thought of her friends.
“Yeah, I am.”

Chapter 93 - Fancy chair, love it.
Tumblr media
- So my theory is that Raizel just never learnt how to write in Lukedonian either.
Tumblr media
- Tbh the janitor is suspicious. Like how hard was he googling M-21?
Tumblr media
Chapter 94 - SUYIIIIIIIIIIII
- Ah geez the first of the racistly depicted characters.
Chapter 96 - Suyi getting mad at the kids for complaining about Hansu is so funny like when she first appears you think she's perhaps a stuck up celebrity or a pushover but it turns out she's just a really sweet friend.
- Suyi being stunned by Rai's looks but not falling for him (same with Yuna) is one of the things I always liked about Noblesse. Like sure in the first meeting they get blushy but I'll just jot that down to the inherent beauty of nobles since I can't relate to it at all.
Chapter 97 - Frankenstein's house always being stocked with so much food because the kids just started coming over daily is hilarious. Even funnier since Frankenstein obviously thinks it's overkill but is the one stocking up anyway.
Chapter 98 - Regis and Seira 🥺 Seira's og outfit was the best one she had like it only goes downhill from here folks.
Tumblr media
Chapter 99 - It would have been so funny if Frankenstein went "they must be cosplayers" instead of realising the two were nobles.
- Regis taking all the initiative shows how it's his roadtrip coming of age journey which is pretty clever. Also Seira's just like that but still.
- Shinwoo stop exercising in class bro. Do not flex on the rest of us this is so rude 😭😭😭
Tumblr media
- Regis confidently saying he's a noble in class to humans he doesn't plan on mind controlling... Baby boy why are you so dumb? How is this hiding your identity??? And Seira just lets him,,, good for her.
Chapter 100 - Ah yes their elegance boner at seeing Raizel... nobles are so fucking weird.
- M-21 thinking he won't get any information because of his time at the Union and thus being surprised at how open Frankenstein is is actually really sweet. Like yeah I still think Frankenstein is an unethical and questionable person but he is kind to most humans (werewolves and nobles can go fuck themselves I guess lmao).
Chapter 101 - The second hand embarrassment I felt when M-21 called the two noblesse... how do I even consume content?
- Yeah 100% most union members don't know the difference between nobles and vampires. I bet they'd classify jiangshi as either mutants or werewolves. Or to be more specific, that would be the classification given to low leveled members. On one hand I think it's dumb that the Union gives members twisted information because how would they even use it? But on the other hand it makes sense since it prevents said members from seeking nobles for help. After all, if they believe even the 'noblesse' are vampires that drink blood, than obviously they won't see them as possible escape routes.
- 'Noblesse only applies to one person'. Yeah because Rai's brother is fucking dead. And so is whoever was his predecessor/parent.
Chapter 102 - Those bullies got backup so fucking fast like Shinwoo literally just asked Regis and Seira if they were okay then boom! They're back.
Chapter 103- Regis going ??? essentially when Shinwoo tells him to take care of Seira is so funny like yes ofc he's confused she's literally a clan leader + noble females aren't physically weaker + noble women work out just like the men.
- Rude, Regis. You can't just ask someone why they're mingling among humans. You're doing that too. Who doesn't mingle among humans smh. Even cats and pigeons mingle with us.
Chapter 105 - Love how everyone else in the household is so sick of ramyeon like Raizel stop please you're being selfish.
Chapter 106 - Frankenstein is the definition of the 'right in front of my salad?' meme at Regis and M-21 arguing at the dinner table. Then there's Seira and Raizel just waiting for the noodles to get soggy so he can't even eat. Wish Urokai could see him getting tortured like this.
- The soldier rejecting backup because he knows the enemy is the Union hurts my heart. Wanting to prevent casualties... iwi
Chapter 107 - Shark how tf do you not know about South Korea? That's one of the asian countries people actually know about. I guess maybe it's because this is from around a decade back? K-pop is more recent and made the country more visible I guess.
- Ah yes Takeo. Forever known as "the first time I read Noblesse and he appeared I thought he was Marie's sister since they had the same hairstyle". Like I thought that before even learning about the Aris Taivra fiasco. My power 😔
- Oh don't worry M-21, Frankenstein stopped experimenting on people 830 years ago. You know, as one does.
Chapter 108 - Shark has like no general knowledge. Geography? History? Tf is that I guess.
- Tao saying they're the worst possible people for the job is so funny like yeah he's right. "All we do is massacre people in warzones why are we in Seoul?"
- The rest of the squad complain or are confused about the peace meanwhile Takeo is vibing. He's the normal guy TM of the group.
- Ah yes noble lore. If you take canon at face value than the fact that nobles were around when humans first emerged and there being about 2-3 clan leaders before the current generation means you can estimate their lifespan. Ofc it differs wildly depending on how you interpret the 'first humans' part. I'll assume there were 3 generations before the current generation (mvp lord being the third generation) and won't be adding the current generation since a 0.5-2k years is kinda meaningless. I'll also be assuming that mvp lord entered eternal sleep at around the same age as his predecessors and that he would have died soon from old age anyway (since canonically they do have limited lifespans). If we assume it's just the first human ancestors (7 million years ago) than the average pureblood lifespan is 2.33 million years. If we assume it's when homo sapiens started to emerge (300k years ago) than it's 100k years. If it's about modern humans (130k years ago) than it's 43.3k years. Regardless I'll ignore it since my hcs are that nobles are effectively immortal unless killed and that the 2-3 clan leaders is a misconception due to a mix of Gechutel just straight up lying, because there are clans that have had fewer clan leaders, because I have nobles settling on Lukedonia only 30k years ago, and because Gechutel is factoring in his own age of 10.2k so it's more like 'There have been 2-3 Ru clan leaders before the Ru clan leader 10k years ago since after we settled in Lukedonia'. There's also the possibility that nobles didn't have lords or clan leaders until a few thousand years ago in canon but the species has existed for much longer.
- 'Nobles are individualistic... They don't despise humans but don't love them either.' Humans w/ ants. Now if the ants were capable of speaking with us it'd be exactly the same situation.
Chapter 109 - "What were they researching here?" Since when does the Union research anything aside from human modifications Kranz? Why do you even need to ask? More seriously this means that the Union doesn't actually only do human experimentation and weapons lmao. The other shit just isn't relevant I guess. It's a shame, I'd have loved to see how a lab focused on like, fixing up polluted waters, would be fit into the story.
- The fact that Tao beat Jake up is never mentioned enough. Also confirms that Jake was lying out of his ass about being the strongest.
- Marie being the weakest assassination squad member is interesting like I know why Crombel doesn't need bodyguards as the reader but you'd think the Union would be suspicious of him not having a stronger bodyguard. Also I still can't believe the Union doesn't bother learning who the members are aside from the ones Crombel tells them about like. Bro???
- Shark calling Takeo uptight is hilarious because the guy literally just shot the falling ceiling light which is the opposite of uptight. Either he was preventing them from getting hurt/being caught or he wanted that to happen considering the fact that he shot it and it shattered. And then he just goes back to leaning against the wall. Takeo please 🤣
Chapter 110 - And Shinwoo's still staying over at Ikhans place. Wonder when he's gonna move back. I really love their dynamic like yeah I beg my sister to get me food all the time too. Also love the apron and skeleton hoodie.
Tumblr media
- Shinwoo went through the five stages of grief pretty quick huh? Like yeah it's his own misunderstanding that Ikhan is dating someone but still. Homophobia is annoying as always though.
Chapter 111 - Suyi paying for their food is so sweet of her and also I relate so much like yeah mood that's me and no I don't want to be paid back.
- Takeo,,, the fact that he just hands his wallet over because he doesn't like violence and doesn't want to beat them up,,, my heart. Otoh... how did he even get cornered in an dark shady alleyway lmao.
- Aris managing to make herself look like a teenager as Taivra is interesting since Takeo says he wants her to be able to go to school like Yuna and Shinwoo when he's treating them. I guess she looks younger without makeup.
- Takeo just straight up pointing his gun at Shark in public because he mentioned Taivra... anger issues much? I understand why but taking your gun out is an overreaction.

“Magnificent!” Brains cooed, peering out the window of the Helipod at the forested slopes of Bogota’s Eastern Hills, “What a t-truly remarkable place!”
Gordon smiled and tightened his grip on the yoke, “See, Brains? Wasn’t this worth getting up early for?”
The scientist twisted his head to gaze out the opposing window and peeped in delight when a flock of colourful finches zipped past, “Absolutely! Though while the views are stunning, it’s Dr. Gabriela I’m really looking forward to meeting. I can’t believe she’s one of just a handful of senior ophthalmologists investigating the link between vision restoration and gene t-therapy. I’ve never felt defined by my eyesight, but I’ve always wondered whether a t-technique exists that could reduce my reliance on corrective lenses. I went to a clinic specialising in photorefractive keratectomy and refractive lens exchange a couple of years ago, but nothing ultimately came of it. I’m excited to see if Dr. Gabriela has any suggestions. How lucky for me t-that you were able to get me an appointment at such short notice!”
“Yeah…” Gordon bit his lip and tried to ignore the guilty sensation that was holding his conscious hostage. He’d been up all night researching various scientific phrases he could throw at Brains in an effort to persuade him to tag along to Gabriela’s charity event. While his initial sales pitch had been enough to convince the engineer to abandon tinkering with his hatch deployment actuator, the little reading that Gordon had done on eye health hadn’t prepared him for the barrage of questions Brains had thrown at him.
“Does Dr. Gabriela have access to a VT 3 vision screener? And how up-to-date is her femtosecond laser?”
Sweat started to bead on Gordon’s forehead as he fought the urge to start making words and phrases up, “Oh, everything she uses is top of the range, Brains. Top of the range I say.”
The engineer made a noise of contentment similar to the one he’d made after Scott had given him permission to butcher the stray GDF R.O.BOT that had ended up in Tracy Island’s hanger.
-x-
Five short minutes later, and Gordon was ushering Brains through a pair of automatic doors that led into a gymnasium of sorts. While the scientist was content to admit that he’d never been to a South American country before, the layout of this so-called ‘private clinic’ was definitely not what he’d been expecting.
It wasn’t long before the discomfort of being in unfamiliar surroundings began to eat away at Brains’s composure. Thankfully, he had the ever sociable Gordon for backup, “Is this the w-waiting room?”
“Yeah…kind of,” Gordon replied, waving awkwardly as several people doddered past and began setting up easels, “You know what, let’s save Gabriela some trouble and start getting things ready for her. I know she’s a very busy woman, so any time we can save her will be a win for us.”
A peep of shock forced its way out of Brains’s mouth as he was bundled off towards a corner of the room that was obscured by a curtain of sorts. He’d done some preliminary research on Bogota’s economic health and was aware that the area was seismically sensitive and had suffered extensive infrastructural damage as a result of said seismic activity. Even so, he’d expected something markedly different when Gordon had bleated about how ‘top of the range’ this place supposedly was.
“Okay, you need to strip off,” Gordon instructed, shoving the scientist behind the safety of the curtain before politely turning away, “All new patients have to undergo a full-body CT scan to check for any underlying health conditions. Unfortunately they’re out of gowns, so you’ll have to do it in the buff.”
Any preoccupations Brains had with the decor of his new surroundings flew out the window quicker than Scott on an amphetamine at the bluntness of Gordon’s statement. Stripping off for an invasive procedure was to be expected, but for an eye exam?
Something didn’t add up…
“Oh, and you can’t wear your glasses during the scan either,” Gordon announced, inserting an arm through the curtain and popping the lenses neatly off the engineer’s nose, “Metallic objects can interfere with the final result. Now, chop, chop! Gabriela is waiting.”
Eager to avoid anything that could cause social awkwardness, Brains set about hesitantly disrobing. He’d never had a medical experience quite as…rustic…as this one, but reminded himself that not everyone had access to the same resources and technology they had back on Tracy Island.
Plus, he trusted Gordon.
-x-
“Is he here?” Gabriela asked, clattering towards Gordon like a giraffe on stilts, “Because I’ve got seventy people who’ve paid good money to put a member of International Rescue on their canvases.”
“Relax,” Gordon soothed, jerking his head in the direction of where he’d left Brains, “He’s getting ready now. How long will the whole thing take?”
A cloud of noxiously sweet perfume wafted through the air as Gabriela ran to consult her diary, “The entire class is three hours long, but guests are encouraged to take reference pictures during the first few minutes. Obviously, we can’t expect a model to pose for so long, so we generally ask for them to sit for just the first hour. Most people should have finished subject studying and underpainting by then.”
“He won’t last that long,” Gordon sighed, jolting when John suddenly issued a rescue order for a couple of stranded hikers on the Nepali slope of Everest. Thankfully, Scott picked up the call before enquiries could be made about Gordon’s whereabouts.
“Fifteen minutes, minimum,” Gabriela clinched, aware that her guests were starting to twiddle their brushes in impatience, “I just need him long enough for photos to be taken. I know it sounds tedious, but photographic shots are necessary for shading and contouring. Plus, guests can refer back to them if they don’t finish in the allotted time.”
Caramel eyes narrowed to slits as Gordon calculated the risk of further hoodwinking his blind colleague.
“Okay, fifteen minutes,” the aquanaut affirmed, striding back to where he’d left his charge, “You done yet, Brains?”
“I t-think so,” came the uncertain response, “But how am I going to get to the radiology clinic in t-this condition? Surely it would have made more sense for me to ‘prepare’ myself in the same room as the scanner?”
“Oh, it’s a portable one that can scan you from a distance in any position,” Gordon blabbed, throwing Gabriela a thumbs up as he gripped the curtain and prepared to yank it back, “Top of the range, remember?”
“If you s-say so,” Brains stammered, blinking like a mole that had just emerged into the sunlight, “I t-trust you.”
The hand that was about to rip the curtain back paused, it’s owner reflecting on the depth of the three words that had just been uttered.
Sure, if Scott hadn’t threatened to ground him, then Brains would be back in the safety of his lab and Gordon himself behind the curtain. And the entire event was funding a very worthy cause with numerous far-reaching benefits…
…but was it all worth humiliating a friend over?
Everyone who had the pleasure of meeting Gordon always described him as an uncommonly kind man. He had an almost innate ability to see life through other people’s eyes. Though it was emotionally exhausting at times, it was the driving force behind his desire to make people happy. He soaked up emotions like a sponge, and had learnt over the years that the best way to keep himself light and fluffy was to project as much positive energy into the people around him as possible.
Despite being disoriented and confused, Brains had willingly put a healthy chunk of his dignity into Gordon’s hands. And now his ass was on the line.
Quite literally.
Gordon sighed. Noble intentions or not, no impulsive decision was worth a friend’s modesty.
“Change of plans, Brains,” the aquanaut informed, “Gabriela’s got an emergency telephone consultation, so has referred you back to your usual guy in Sydney. You can get dressed and come out. I’ve popped your glasses down by your shoes, so don’t tread on them.”
Of course, the life of someone in Gordon’s line of work with Gordon’s personality meant that for every battle won, another was lost. While the moral dilemma over Brains’s involvement in the event was over, there was still the issue of Gabriela and the roomful of impatient artists she’d amassed.
“Hey, Brains? I’m just nipping home real quick. Tell Gabriela I’ll be back within the hour with a fully-fledged International Rescue operative for her…um…thing. This neighbourhood isn’t the safest place on the map, so don’t leave the compound by yourself. See you in a jiffy.”
The partially dressed Brains had less than a second to formulate a reply before Gordon bolted out the door, a metaphorical trail of fire blazing in his wake.
“I really must talk to Scott about a p-pay rise...”
-x-
One hour later…
MAX beeped seductively as he stretched his robotic limbs across the chaise lounge he was sprawled across.
“Draw him like one of your French robots,” Gordon suggested to a dark haired woman who had been studying her easel for several minutes, the hilarity of his own joke causing a snort to break forth. The woman remained impassive, her eyes fixed on the contours of MAX’s storage pod. Titanic references were clearly neither wanted, nor appreciated.
It hadn’t been the event anyone had expected. There had been no naked emergency responders, no naked engineers, and by extension, no naked calendar. Thankfully, MAX’s delight at being asked to participate in a human activity, combined with his enthusiasm for arts and crafts had gone some way towards placating some of the slightly miffed attendees.
“Well, we hit out target,” Gabriela announced, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear, “Plus, MAX managed to rake in a fair few tips. That should cover the cost of food for the day.”
A sad series of beeps sounded as MAX dropped his gaze to the floor. He’d hoped to use the human money he’d earnt to buy his own easel, since Virgil was getting tired of him constantly vandalising his. Maybe he could ask Scott to pay him every time he emptied the dishwasher, just like he did with Alan…
“Chin up, MAX!” Gordon cooed, loading as much leftover food into the Helipod’s storage bin as was physically possible, “I’ll pay you twice what you earnt in tips for your time today. How does that sound?”
Brains smiled and self-consciously adjusted his glasses, “Thank you G-Gordon. We both thoroughly enjoyed our time here today. I must say, everyone did an excellent job at capturing MAX’s likeness. I think the canvas I p-purchased will look wonderful next to Kayo’s picture in the lounge. Of course, we’ll have to shift the r-rest of you up a bit to make room.”
Gordon gave a distracted nod around the sandwich he was chewing, his own small reward for a day chock full of hoop jumping.
After watching his creator disappear outside to chat to Gabriela (who was in the middle of a well-deserved smoke break), MAX wheeled over to the bag containing the portrait Brains had bought and carefully extracted it, his eye widening in awe as he drank in the masterful brushstrokes that came together to recreate him.
There was just one thing missing...
...a moustache.
-x-
Present day
"Uh, Gordon?" Virgil's voice was low and gentle, a stark contrast to the shrieks of delight Mandy was emitting, "Do I need to remind you about what happened last time you signed up for something like this?"
Gordon most certainly didn’t need reminding. He still hadn’t fully recovered from the tongue-lashing Scott had given him after discovering the portraits out of whack and MAX’s canvas next to his launch station…or the follow-up tongue-lashing that had come about after he’d learnt the reason behind the portraits being out of whack.
Hopefully an expensive bouquet of flowers on top of one of Scott’s ‘fat-ass cheques’ would keep Mandy from hunting him down and gnawing off his toes while he slept…
It wasn’t all bad though. Scott would never admit it, but Gordon’s previous display of charitable benevolence had warmed his heart enough for him to disclose to John the one person they could all freely bare their naked asses to if they so wished.
The Hood. But on two conditions:
1. He had to be en route to a prison cell at the time.
2. The phrase ‘kiss my ass’ would have to take on a literal meaning instead of a metaphorical one.

Not to monologue again, but I do feel it's a better update than disappearing 💙
~
So I've been hurting. Hurting extremely badly these last few days. All things considered it's possible my sisters have been as well- though as far as I can tell their hurts are healing wounds while I bleed out.
I would like to preface most of this by saying I understand I am flawed. I know I make mistakes. I choose to own up to even those mistakes that hurt to claim. And for this, I know I do my best.
I also know my best isn't everyone else's or even someone else's best. I know my needs do not trump or even match the needs of others. I also know I can be hurtful without ever meaning to be and have not and will not ever say I didn't hurt someone if they say I did.
...
That said... I was resigned to hide away. To make myself small again. To do exactly what was asked or perceived of me. I was content to be completely miserable so that maybe, maybe one other person could be happy and would maybe mercifully allow me to live.
But then I visited a good friend today... Stiflingly my tears and fears the whole way... And somehow, just by being herself and by talking of her experiences while we walked.... She touched very gently on exactly what I'm going through. I was able to get a little of it out in turn and was able to see that... Yeah. Yeah, I'm NOT the worst party here- not by choice not by accident. And yeah... I'm an absolute wreck from dealing with it all or trying my best to... But that, in fact, makes me worthy. Not worthless. I. Am. TRYING. And that's worth something.
...
I have been facing homelessness. My therapist outright said she believes I have not been and I am honestly pissed off at her for that. I have been threatened and hurt and more and no one seems to want to believe me... And I am absolutely sick of it.
I need people. Unfortunately, the people around me also need me, but don't think they do and wish I didn't exist as I am-- only happy when I exist in the most subdued and bleeding possible way. (Elaboration- I've provided my sisters a place to live, paid bills, and and most, if not all the skills they have at their jobs today, alongside their very jobs.. and more- emotional support, physical contact (even if it physically hurts me), ect ect ect... And in return I've gotten, well HURT (bruises, befouled language, emotional abuse, broken promises, threats of violence, threats of being abandoned, told I'm worthless (but they love me anyway), you name it))- especially when I try to be myself or ask for ANYTHING extra or am upset the promises are broken or I'm hurt... I'm only 'safe' if I don't complain or ask or point out where I've been used or hurt or anything else-- I can't be 'too much' or it is weaponized against me)
And I'm sick and tired of being taken advantage of... Being told I'm 'forcing' people to do things they promised me they would do/said they WANTED to do.. and being told I just need to 'let it go' when I am injured or experience direct consequences of their broken promises.. and only getting treated worse instead of seeing an ounce or recognition, let alone any recompense for their actions.
I don't exactly know what to do... The threat of being left to fend completely for myself is very real... Which of course comes with the sting of 'you're an adult, you should be able to handle it' while we all very much know I am in a strange area of disabled (very few if any are disabled by choice, and I will say my having MASSIVE PTSD (that I'm actively working on and will live with for the rest of my life) was certainly NOT my choice).... But I do know I have been and continue to be treated unfairly. If I cannot break through to my eldest sister- as I don't expect to as none of my efforts so far have gotten me anywhere- I am left with finding a solution...
I do not have any parents to fall back on- my dad himself believing all my suffering and ESPECIALLY all the suffering of Tevs is all my fault, my father being closer/more attached to Tevs while I have ever been estranged (and at times actually abandoned by him), my mother being a HUGE POS who is the source most of the trauma I struggle with to this day (I won't go anywhere near her)- which means no other family members to fall back on either as everything filters through my parents first (and let's face it... If they think I'm a problem, so does everyone else).... My friends are all in the same boat of struggling/just getting by... Aaaaand are all super far away/established to a point no room or help is available...
...
I think I might have a plan... And a backup... Neither are pretty. Neither I like... But honestly... I'm sick of being unloved or downright hated by family for being me.. when all I get to be is in tiny tiny blips anyway.. I can only imagine they'll REALLY hate me if I spread my wings.
... I am tempted and might just ask Tevs for the car back. She has obviously never wanted to deal with it (and me being the person I am will not take away any of her privileges of using it while we live in the same place) and has a burning hatred for the money she spends on it/the work it needs. If she says yes, huzzah. It'll really hurt financially as I am already paying double the rent amount both of them are, buying the cats stuff every month, paying off my own debts, and paying my portions of the rest of the bills... But I can do it right now.
That's plan A (it will also have plan B as a part of it, but plan A is doing all of it while having a mode of transportation- much easier on the wallet ironically enough).
Plan B is... Finding a place I can afford- likely the worst of the worst affordable housing out there because I have my Kizzy- and taking cabs/walking wherever I need to go. And not speaking to my eldest sister or likely any of my parents ever again. To become the estranged child... Because I am SICK of being treated differently and of being hated rather than loved and accepted.
People can say they accept you all they want.. and I've tried hard to believe them... But actions speak louder than words do. I've tried to show my love for years... And they hate it/don't appreciate it and it's not right for them.
Fine.
Nor is theirs right for me, though I took anything and everything I could get and will always be extremely grateful for their efforts, rather than completely bitter they weren't right for me.
All of this hurts. But honestly... I think I'll take the pain of actually being alone over being beaten and twisted and hurt all while being told I'm not alone and that I am loved.

March of Dragons ‘21 : Fan content prompt: Flying Free
Tumblr media
Flying Free
WARNING: Violence
So, this prompt gave me the idea of how Astrid met Axewing. He’s a dragon that appears in the Rise of Berk game. I find this dragon absolutely beautiful and who doesn’t like a dragon with wings that act like axes? That dragon suits Astrid perfectly, after Stormfly of course.
I couldn’t help myself, I had to add a pinch of Hiccstrid at the end because I love them so much.
Enjoy!
oOo
Astrid was on night patrol duty tonight. It was supposed to be the twins’ turn but Tuffnut has gotten himself injured during their last raid against the dragon hunters. She volunteered to take their place. Unlike Snotlout or Fishlegs, she enjoyed patrols to have some time to herself and would take any opportunity to fly with Stormfly. They were a match made in Valhalla; a pair of warriors with a sense of duty to match.
She scouted all the areas and ticked them off her map, completing her round. Normally, she would be flying back to her hut and get a good night's sleep so she can wake up early and train her stealth skills with Stormfly. Tonight, however, she felt the need to remain in the sky a little while longer. She patted her dragon’s head, gaining her attention. She seemed to be happy gliding through the sky. They were blessed with a warm night, a clear sky, and a full moon; one would be a fool to remain indoors.
“What do you say we take a small detour and enjoy this beautiful night a bit more girl?” Her Nadder squawked in reply, as in to say yes.
Stormfly changed the course of her direction and headed north, opposite from where the Edge was. The gang rarely ventured north, they would’ve but the war against the hunters was most often waging south, not letting them have too much time on their hands to explore much anymore. Saving the dragons and getting rid of the hunters were their main priorities. Occasionally, to save themselves from being overworked and from the constant fear of a new attack, they would go into small groups to explore the nearby islands close to the edge; unless they have a breakthrough with the Dragon Eye, revealing a new species.
The pair were flying over a couple of islands they’ve already discovered before. They practiced some tricks that could be used in battle, but they were also having fun. They started to let their guards down a bit, fully aware that the hunters rarely treaded those waters...Rarely...
Stormfly stiffened, her quills stood upright. Astrid observed the area, fully trusting in her dragon’s instincts. She sensed danger in one of the two islands in proximity.
“What is it, girl?” Before Stormfly could react, a loud roar resounded at the large island to their left. The Nadder waited for her friend’s orders, ready to defend her at a moment’s notice.
Astrid took out her spyglass to observe the island and frowned. She spotted two ships with the hunters’ insignia. She looked back and knew she was too far from the Edge for a distress call. Not only that, but it would also alert the hunters of a rider’s presence. Right now, she had to assess the situation and only had the element of surprise as an advantage.
“Let’s go Stormfly. We need to be as stealthy as possible for now.” She said as she patted her dragon’s shoulder. She made a noise of acknowledgment and flew in the direction of the distressed dragon.
They made sure they weren’t spotted as they landed close to the source of the sound. They moved within the bushes as Astrid counted the number of hunters. The roars were getting louder but were followed by the hunters’ yells, tormenting the poor dragon. Astrid couldn’t identify it by the sound it made, meaning it was either an undiscovered dragon or a dragon she rarely saw. Curiosity took over and signalled Stormfly to stay still and lay low, to which she complied, eyeing her trainer’s surroundings.
Astrid got closer to the last bush coverage and delicately separated the leaves to spy on the little clearing within the thick forest. Her eyes widened at the sight. The dragon wasn’t just an ordinary dragon. It was a titanwing Timberjack. It donned the radiant red and yellow colours of autumn. The moonlight reflecting on those vibrant scales. She couldn’t imagine how mesmerising would that dragon be under the sunlight, flying high above the clouds. It was beautiful.
A whipping sound resonated followed by the Timberjack’s agonising cries. Astrid frowned at the hunters’ cruelty. The dragon had chains wrapped around his snout, neck, and tail, keeping him grounded. She noticed a couple of dragonroot arrows stuck in his side, but it seemed that being a titanwing helped him not succumb completely to its effects in one shot. She reached behind her back and grab her axe’s handle, ready to attack.
Before she was able to do anything, the Timberjack frenziedly struggled, his razor-sharp wings cutting all the trees in proximity, some falling on the hunters. She saw in the corner of her eye Stormfly dashing towards her, projecting her in the clearing. Astrid landed ungraciously in front of the Timberjack, who suddenly stopped to look at the peculiar Viking.
Astrid got up and looked back at Stormfly and saw her crushed under a large tree. The same tree that was going to land on her. Her heart wrenched. Stormfly just saved her life.
“Stormfly!” She ran towards her dragon but was surrounded by some of the hunters. She took a battle stance and gripped her axe as if her life depended on it.
“Kill ‘er!” She heard.
An arrow flew towards her but she managed to parry it with her blade. She launched an attack, slicing her axe across one of the hunter’s chest. A couple of arrows flew towards her again, and used the injured hunter as a shield, killing him. When the hunters at the back had to reload their crossbows, Astrid saw an opportunity to launch herself towards the sword-wielding hunters with a battle cry that made them look at her in fear.
She was trained her whole life to kill dragons, she was always first in her class until Hiccup showed the tribe a brighter future. A couple of hunters wasn’t going to faze her. She was a fearless warrior, while she depended on the rest of the riders to watch her back during their many raids, she was very capable of fighting on her own.
She parried the many swords coming for her, never letting them have the upper hand, and slashed through the mass with ferocious dedication.
The riders did their best to not directly kill unless necessary. They didn’t enjoy having their hands soiled in blood, especially Hiccup and Fishlegs. They were too soft-hearted, always trying to find another solution to their problems. Astrid, however, doesn’t hesitate. If a loved one was in danger, she will not back down from an enemy and isn’t afraid to slice them down with her trusty axe. She is fiercely loyal like that. It doesn’t mean she enjoys it, but she will handle the guilt and nightmares without any qualms if it meant that she doesn’t get to see the people she loves die because of her hesitance.
With some of the hunters out of her way, she managed to create a passage towards Stormfly. She tried to lift the tree, but it was obvious from the start that she needed the strength of ten Vikings to be able to do so.
“Yer not goin’ anywhere little girl.” One of the hunters sneered at her as another wave approached her. “Nice of ye to bring us another dragon though, Viggo will surely be pleased.” He said as he looked at Stormfly.
Astrid wiped some blood off her forehead and stood in front of Stormfly, ready to defend her with her life. She was covered in blood, mostly from those scums, but she could feel the stinging from a couple of shallow cuts. It wasn’t enough to deter her as she glared at the approaching enemy. She quickly stole a glance at the Timberjack, who laid still as a rock. It was observing her with curiosity. It looked like it didn’t associate her with his tormenters. Clever boy. Her eyes went back to the hunters. Some of them released the chains to provide backup as they seemingly couldn’t bring one Viking warrior down.
“Bring it on.” She jeered at them.
They all charged at her. Astrid managed to avoid their attacks and sent a coupled of them to the ground, ending them with an accurate slice to the throat or a classic chop to the skull. The hunters were heavy on their feet and attacked clumsily. While she was alone, Astrid was quick on her feet, all her moves were calculated; she looked like she was dancing on the battlefield, avoiding a sword here and parrying a rogue arrow there. She never let the hunters land a fatal blow. Her focus was impeccable.
It wasn’t until she heard Stormfly’s distressed cried that she lost her focus. She turned around to look at her and saw a hunter approaching the vulnerable Nadder. Astrid was knocked to the ground, dropping her axe in the process. A heavy boot on her chest held her to the ground. She squirmed and tried to pry the leg off, but she wasn’t strong enough. She looked at the hunter and glared at him with all her might. If she was going to die, she will not die with fear written on her face. She was a warrior through and through and stared at Death in the eye, challenging it.
A strident cry distracted her and the hunter above her. Astrid suddenly felt the weight being lifted from her chest, letting her breathe properly again. The Timberjack managed to partially free himself from the chains since less hunters were holding him down. With a quick swipe of his tail, he knocked the men down as well as the large trunk that crushed Stormfly.
Astrid rushed towards her dragon and looked for injuries. Unfortunately, the Nadder seemed to have a broken leg from the impact and she sported a couple of scratches all over her body. Astrid lovingly caressed her beak.
“I’m so sorry girl, I should’ve paid attention.” Stormfly nuzzled her as if to say it wasn’t her fault.
“Thank you for saving my life, I owe you one.” She hugged her tightly, rubbing her nose against her warm scales. The Nadder purred.
A series of yelling brought Astrid back to reality. She looked at the source of the noise and her eyes widened. The hunters have grown in numbers, probably back up from the ships. She desperately looked at the Timberjack struggling to set himself free from the new invasion back to her injured dragon.
“Stormfly, you need to go back to the Edge, get back up.” Stormfly croaked and nuzzled her. She didn’t want to leave her friend here. “Please Stormfly. This is our only chance for all of us to survive. Do you trust me?” Astrid asked as she raised her hand towards her dragon, she felt the gentle touch of her beak. The rider smiled at her Nadder, giving her a quick hug, silently thanking her.
“Go.” Stormfly took off with difficulty, flying back as fast as she could. Astrid thanked the Gods that her dragon didn’t get her wings or tail too injured.
She turned around and dashed towards her axe, avoiding more arrows. She looked at the Timberjack, hoping it would look at her. To get out of here alive, she needed his complete trust. To her luck, his eyes landed back on her. She nodded at him, almost trying to signal him something before dashing towards the hunters holding the chains. She knocked them down one by one, they were easier to kill as their hands were holding the chains.
The Timberjack felt the grip loosen up and checked the Viking warrior’s surroundings. He spotted a line of archers aiming at her. He swiftly swiped his wings at the tree behind the archers, cutting them down in one fell swoop, sending the large trees tumbling down on the helpless archers.
Astrid ran closer to the dragon and beckoned him to lower his head, which he did, trusting the girl to help him. She pried the chains off his snout, hoping he had enough firepower to get rid of the remaining hunters. The dragon noticed some men rushing towards them, he did not hesitate to finally use his fire to burn them and deter the ones reimaging on the side-line. They didn’t look so tough anymore. Losing to a chained dragon and a girl with an axe was a major hit to their egos. They had all the advantages on their side and yet they were helpless. Viggo was not going to be happy.
The Timberjack nudged Astrid with its snout. She looked at him, he didn’t seem to have an aggressive personality, which is probably one of the reasons he was captured in the first place. She raised her hand towards him and let him close the gap between them. She heard him purr.
“You’re absolutely extraordinary.” She said, her eyes filled with wonder. The dragon seemed to like her from the start and hoped he liked her enough to let her climb onto his back.
“Yer not getting away with our prize, girl.” She heard an annoying voice sneer. She rolled her eyes and turned around. The remaining hunters regrouped and were ready for another round. Astrid was already tired after fighting alone and she assumed the Titanwing was too. She glanced back at him and then at his flank where two arrows were sticking out. She hastily grabbed the arrows, looking at the dragon for confirmation. He just stared at her, not doing anything. She considered this enough and pulled. The dragon roared in pain but didn’t attack her. She was surprised at how fast he trusted her despite having a bad time with humans.  She just hoped he trusted her enough for her to climb on his back. They were tired and outnumbered and their best option is to fly away from this wretched place.
Astrid placed her hands on his shoulders, ready to jump on, but the Timberjack was a smart one and lowered himself enough for her to climb on with ease. He spread his wings and took off with a bit of difficulty, probably due to his injuries. Astrid held on tight as he cut through the surrounding trees, falling on some unfortunate hunters. With a mighty beat of his broad wings, they flew towards the sky, finally free.
While they enjoyed nesting in forests, Timberjacks were known for flying at a considerably high altitude, to which Astrid wasn’t accustomed to with Stormfly. She felt a colder wind blow through her hair, her cheeks reddened, but she didn’t feel the cold. The dragon produced great heat underneath her as compensation and she felt completely at ease sitting on a wild dragon. It wasn’t often that she rode a dragon that wasn’t her Nadder, it felt strange. While she had to constantly lean forward and keep ahold of her saddle as a Nadder’s back curves downwards, the Timberjack didn’t have legs pulling itself down, keeping a straight back in flight. Astrid had more stability and his gigantic wings, bare of spines provided more room for her to sit. She felt the powerful beat of his wings as they soared majestically through the air. She felt so light. She felt free.
Astrid spread her arms, savouring the cool air, and let out a laugh as the dragon playfully cut through the clouds for fun.
“Oh my Gods, this is amazing! You’re amazing!” She blissfully shouted, giving the dragon a pat. “What I wouldn’t give to have wings acting as axes.” She joked. Her eyes widened, “Hey, that’s what I’ll call you. Axewing! How about that?” Axewing let out a shrill roar, expressing his approval. Astrid laughed again. “A fitting name for a warrior. Gods, for a moment I thought we were done for.” She admitted.
They soared for a while, enjoying their newly found freedom. Despite not knowing each other for very long, Astrid knew that she found a connection with this dragon. Of course, Stormfly will always be her dragon soulmate, her best friend, but she saw a fighting spirit in him that reminded her of Stormfly. She was sure they would get along great.
Suddenly, she heard the familiar strident whistling sound of a fast-approaching Night Fury. Toothless blended with the dark sky, so she was thankful that Hookfang was accompanying him, he was easier to spot thanks to his fire-coated scales illuminating the sky. Astrid beckoned Axewing to fly down and join them as the riders haven’t spotted her from up high.
They blocked their paths, forcing them to abruptly stop. The riders’ eyes widened as they saw who was riding the Titanwing Timberjack.
“What took you so long?” Astrid mused.
“Astrid! You’re okay!” Hiccup exclaimed; relief evident in his voice. “We were so worried something bad happened to you when Stormfly came back without you and a broken leg.”
“How is she?” She asked, a worried look etched on her face.
“Fishlegs is tending to her. He said she’ll be fine as long as we keep an eye on her recovery.” Hiccup answered. Astrid let out a relieved sigh.
“Ugh, by the way, who’s this and why are you covered in blood?” Snotlout pointed at the Timberjack and then back at the bloodstained Viking warrior.
Astrid patted her new friend, “That’s Axewing, and long story short we ran into a large group of hunters capturing this poor fella, I’ll explain more to you once we’re back at the Edge.” She nudged Axewing to resume their flight back home, Hiccup and Snotlout following on their tail.
Astrid turned around and asked, “By the way, how did you find me without Stormfly?”
“I saw you flying north while I was on a flight with Toothless. We’ve flown there a couple of times in the past and there aren’t a lot of islands nearby, so our best bet to find you was to check them all.” Her betrothed responded. Astrid nodded, facing forward again.
“Hey, Astrid?” She saw Hiccup guide Toothless next to her in the corner of her eye. She looked at him with a raised eyebrow. “I’m glad you’re safe.” She smiled at him and nodded, still gazing at his beautiful green eyes.
“Ugh, enough eye-fucking already. I’m still here, do you have no sense of decency? Gods!” Snotlout’s voice resonated from behind the couple, who simply ignored him.
oOo
I don’t know if it completely fits the prompt, but that’s the idea I had. Hope you liked it!

BTBY Chapter 6
Tumblr media
Series Summary: For Namjoon, the moment he set his sights on being the #1 rapper, he pushed the symbol to the side and hated it. Love should be chosen, not forced on you. He didn’t believe in fate and this mark on his wrist was a big “fuck you” to all that.
Chapter Summary: Award Show Day!
Previous chapter here
The rest of rehearsal was blissfully boring, as well as dinner. The BTS production unit was filming their behind-the-scenes content so the guys were occupied the rest of the evening, sparing you from anymore awkward conversation.
The next morning you throw on leggings and a t-shirt and go get your hair and make up done for the award show. It’s not like anyone was going to take your picture or anything, but with everyone else looking so nice you would feel out of place if you didn’t also look fancy. You sucked at hair and make-up so you happily paid the salon pricing. You double checked your garment bag and work bag before heading to the venue.
Security is tight as usual and you happily flash your ID and credentials to the staff. You are the first one to arrive from your team. You find the green rooms for BTS and a shared space for several bands' back up dancers. You sit your belongings in a corner out of the way and begin to review the catering order and ensure the requested food and beverages are present. You are super nervous about today. This is your fifth year doing this award show but your first year mostly solo, and the first year your group hasn’t practiced at the actual venue the day before. You sigh, sitting down the request sheet and counting the hair dryers and flat-irons.
Gina, Xavier, and Joe arrive fifteen minutes later. "Hey there good looking," You walk over and hug Joe, careful to keep your face off his suit. Gina is already in her gown and Xavier is like you, dressed in sweatpants and a shirt, ready to practice. “Ok Gina, what would you like me to do today?” you ask your boss even though you can already guess based on the fact one of you is dressed fancy and one of you is dressed for the gym.
“I’m going to stay here and get the stylists and back up dancers checked in. I want you and Xavier to go wait by the back door for BTS and immediately take them to the stage for rehearsal. As soon as the back-ups get checked in I’m sending them your way. When you’re done, bring them here for hair and make-up and then they’ll walk the carpet.”
“Okie dokie.” you say, “See you later Joe!” you smile and pat his arm as you exit the room. Xavier stops and gives him a kiss before he follows you. The hallway is a clusterfuck of PD teams and garment racks, back-up dancers, and caterers, but you love it. So much chaos but also organization. You love awards show days. You were just so nervous you had forgotten how invigorating it was.
“I’m so excited to watch the performances later!” Xavier squeals as the two of you line up alongside other teams by the back door. You hold up your little “BTS” sign so the group can find you easier. The signs were dumb but necessary. The guys had actually hung out with you way more than your previous artists since you were all working together in a small studio space. And, other than the whole soulmate thing, they were the nicest group you had worked with so far. They were patient with your team and their production unit and chose to stay and eat with everyone at the studio, when they could have had catering delivered to the hotel. Yes, at this moment you were feeling very excited and proud.
A few minutes passed where you made small talk with some other producers who were waiting. You saw several other singers and bands arrive. Finally a large group came in and you knew it had to be yours. You immediately found RM.
"Good morning! Are you guys all ready to go straight to the stage?" you ask as you walk alongside him now that all of the guys and the production team were in the building.
"Yeah we gave our stuff to our manager to take to the green room so let's get there as soon as possible." he responds.
"Alright," follow me.” You lead the group through the winding hallways to the stage, trying to keep them focused even though they and other celebrities keep stopping to wave and say "hi" to each other.
"Sorry, they don't get out often," RM jokes as he apologizes to you. "it's fine. We're good on time.” you assure him while checking your watch” The backup dancers are still going through security clearance.” You had sent Xavier ahead to the stage to meet any who arrived early.
“Hey! Is that [Y/N]?” you hear a voice call out in the narrow hallway.
You recognize the well-dressed man as Mr. Salontes, the manager of Imagine Dragons.
“Mr. Salontes!” you lean in for a polite hug, “It’s great to see you again! How are you? You guys are up for best alternative album right?”
“You have such a great memory [y/n], yes we are, and we’re getting ready to promote it on tour this summer. Speaking of which, we’re looking for a Director. I’ve heard great things about you. Are you looking for a tour this summer?” he looks at you hopefully.
Your eyes widen as you stand there shocked for a second, you were not expecting a group this popular to make you offer and you certainly weren’t expecting it in a busy hallway while you were leading your group to rehearsal. “Oh wow, that sounds amazing. Thank you. I am looking to tour this summer. Ummm… Do you also have a position for a choreographer?"
“No, sorry, just a Directing position. We’ve already hired our choreographer.” You think for a few seconds and take a deep breath, “Oh, that’s too bad. I already promised my choreographer Xavier that I would tour with him this summer.”
Mr. Salontes gives you a kind but incredulous look. “Are you sure? This is a really big opportunity you’re turning down. I’m sure your friend would understand.”
He was so nice about it, you felt even worse. But, a promise is a promise. Xavier and Joe had been there for you through some really shitty times, you were’t going to go back on your word.
“I know, and I really appreciate it I just can’t go back on my word. I do really appreciate the opportunity though. Good luck tonight,” you say with a tone of finality as you begin moving again to get your group to the stage.
“You are crazy,” you hear RM comment behind you.
You roll your eyes, “Oh yeah? Why is that?”
“You just turned down working with one of the biggest groups in your country right now. You don’t think that Manager is going to run off and tell a bunch of other people that you’re difficult to work with. I thought you took your job seriously.”
You sigh as you continue to meander through the hallways. Yeah you felt bad about declining the offer, but what were you supposed to do? “I love my job but it’s just a job. If he wants to go and tell people that I won’t leave my friend behind then let him. Other opportunities will come along, My friendship with Xavier is more important. Alright, here we are,” you stop and wait in the wings, scanning the backstage for Xavier and your dancers.
“[Y/N] over here!” Xavier waves at you. You walk over. “Ok all of the dancers are here so we are good to go.”
“Perfect let me go check with AV and I will be right back.” you run down to the sound booth to make sure they knew which group was getting ready to go. “Ok, back up dancers you will be over here stage Left.” You look at your sheet. “V, Jhope, and Jungkook you are also stage left. RM and Jin head to Stage left and Jimin, go to the center of the stage.”
They run the songs with choreography and lights only two times. You and another assistant begin to apply lav mics to them for the full rehearsal. “Ok so no throwing mic pacs today ok? These ones are expensive,” you tease RM as you apply the mic around his torso, feeling the electricity buzzing again. “Dammit,” you accidentally say out loud.
“What? Is the mic shorting out?” he asks, looking alarmed. He does have a tendency to break things.
“No the mic is fine,” you mutter.
“Then what’s causing the electricity,” he asks perplexed.
You smirk and feel your cheeks flush, “It’s a soulmate thing,” you say under your breath. You feel him tense up.
“Oh...sorry about that.”
“It’s fine, I’m almost finished.” you respond as you hand him the in-ears. “Ok, looks good.” you assess him for a minute and then move on to Jin. His placement is much faster even though he is blushing like a schoolgirl. Cute. All of these guys were adorable. And hot. How was this possible?
You signal to the sound booth that you are ready and they run the full practice through twice. Ahh it looks so good. You have water available for them once they finish. “That looked so good!” you say to Xavier.
“I know I know! Let’s get them to hair and make-up.” you say as you gather the men and lead them to their green room. The walk back to the room is much faster fortunately. The stylists are all waiting at different chairs and their outfits have been hung up for them. “Alright, we’ll see you guys in about 2 hours. You have hair and make-up and then you’ll walk the carpet. After that come back here and we’ll wait to be seated,” you tell the group, allowing RM to translate. You and Xavier grab your garment bags and head over to the dancer’s green room to change and kill time.
“You look amazing!” Xavier compliments you as you exit the changing room in your dress. It’s a long sleeve number with a straight neckline, scoop back, and is mid-thigh length.
“You don’t look so bad yourself,” you say as you walk over and straighten up his pocket square and tie.
“Soooo anything new? You knowwwwwwww???” he asks.
“Yeah, we had sex in the green room just now. It took 30 seconds while everyone else wasn’t looking. It was great,” you say dryly.
Xavier rolls his eyes at you. “You’re no fun. So he’ s leaving tomorrow and then that’s it?”
“Yep. Just like that. The way things were before.”
“And you’re fine with that?”
You sit down on a bench and cross your legs. Xavier joins you. “Yeah. I mean he’s super cool and all, it’s just not what either of us want.”
“Well we’ve come a long way from yesterday at least.”
You sulk on the bench for a second and then pull up your phone to watch the Red Carpet interviews. It was always so cool to think that you had a small part in making this award show come together. You guys watch the network interview several bands and your back up dancers come over when it’s BTS’s turn. You hear exclamations of “so cool” “Hotness” “I bet they win” and you smile as you hold your phone.
You look at your watch. “Ok, I’m going to head to the green room. Ill see you at our seats?” you ask Xavier.
“You got it doll,” he plants a small kiss on your cheek. “Good luck. I’m sure tonight will go great.”
You smile and head over to their green room. A few stylists are still around to do touch up work and some caterers are refilling waters and snacks. Everything is going according to plan. You sit down for a minute and enjoy the quiet before the storm. A few minutes later, the band and their filming crew arrive. You stand up automatically but you are finishing up reading an article on your phone so you don’t immediately look up.
When you do you see that RM is staring at you with his mouth slightly open. You look at him questioningly. “What’s wrong?”
“Uh,” sorry. He puts his hands in his suit pockets. “You just uh look really pretty.”
You stand there in shock for a second. “Oh. Thanks. I guess I forgot that I changed clothes,” you laugh while gesturing at your dress.
“Oooo lovely sexy lady,” Jimin says to you as he walks over to his seat.
Namjoon barks out in Korean, “Be professional, she’s our director.”
“I’m just saying the truth,” Jim responds in turn. He winks as he walks past you.
“Thank you,’ you blush and say to Jimin. “You guys look great as well.”
RM rolls his eyes and storms over to his chair, taking out his phone and doesn’t say another word to you. You feel your body slowly get hot with Anger. His Anger. Wtf dude? NEXT CHAPTER
