sleep pile with bruno and his nieces and nephews!
Thank you for the request 🥺 Somehow this turned out to be over 1,000 words! Here’s the AO3 link!
...
Duerme bien
“But we should—“
“Leave him there. Good idea.”
“Not what I was going to say!”
“Whaddya mean? We’re practically twins! We finish each otherrr’s…”
“Like I’d ever fall for that.”
“Hey. What’re you guys just, standing there for?”
Mirabel and Camilo startle at the voice behind them.
“Luisa! Keep your voice down, okay,” Mirabel hisses. “It’s Tío Bruno.”
The tall young woman crosses the courtyard and gazes in the direction her sister has indicated with puckered lips. Her powerful body is immediately tense, ready to spring forward and pluck their tío out of whatever situation he’s landed in. The instant she sees him, though, she gives a low little laugh.
“Oh, he’s sleeping.”
“Yeah. On the floor. Just. Dead to the world, right there.” Camilo, heaping on the obvious statements.
“Which is why we should move him to the couch!”
“He looks… comfortable?” Luisa shifts from one foot to the other. “Haven’t you seen this before?” The younger kids shake their heads. “He used to do it a lot. Before he, uh, left. I remember seeing him asleep on the floor, or like, in a corner somewhere. Mamá said that as long as he wasn’t in danger, wasn’t going to fall or get stepped on or anything, it was okay to let him be. Said he needed the rest.”
She doesn’t mention the part where she’d plunk down in front of Bruno, a doll and stuffed animal in tow, or sometimes blocks. Or that she’d sit with him until he woke up (once or twice prodding him awake herself). Then her tío would blink at her through those ever sleepless eyes, never upset with her, not even if she roused him sooner than he’d wanted. Just a crooked smile and a bleary but tender, “Buenas, Luisita.”
Camilo is gesturing at the man’s form in the center of the living room. “See? I was right. Also, wow, fu—ay! Wh—“
“Shh. I still think we should move him.” Mirabel’s brow is furrowed.
“…What if he wakes up?”
“Yeah. And anyway, he’s probably too heavy for us n–ow! Stop pinching me, Mirabel!”
“He’s not!” Mirabel says, while Luisa crosses her arms, biceps bulging. “And I won’t, because you keep being an—“
“Let him stay there.”
All three of them jump in spite of the sound of a well-practiced whisper beside them. Turning their heads in unison, they see Dolores peeking around the threshold at their passed-out uncle.
“He’s still lighter than you, cabeza gorda.” She adds, humming, lest she squander the opportunity to defend Bruno and jab back at her brother, who simply shrugs, even as he fixes her with a too-wide smirk.
Looking back at Mirabel, he says, “Our majority and our seniority reign!”
Mirabel is familiar enough with their mothers’ and Bruno’s banter as triplets to know it’s hopeless to argue that Camilo being two months and one week older than her totally does not count as seniority. Still, the words chafe.
“Well, unfortunately for you, primo, brains beat age,” she counters. Smiling at her own private triumph. “You guys, come on! Dolores, don’t worry, we won’t wake him.”
“Oh. No, it’s not that–“
“¡Permiso!”
As if on cue, the quiet, piping voice of the youngest Madrigal sends the four bigger bodies shuffling. They watch the boy’s curly head bob toward them—the rest of him is nearly obscured by the thick woolen blanket he’s hugging to his torso—and as he weaves through and on into the room.
Antonio had been the first to stumble upon Bruno like this, after consulting the rats over his whereabouts (“I need to find your mamá,” is how he framed it). It was seeing his tío fast asleep on the floor that made the boy shelve his pursuit of story time in favor of the next most logical thing.
Sure, the kid may have gotten distracted by his toucan friend along the way, but he’s back now! And once he reaches his destination he promptly arranges the blanket in a pile next to Bruno, plopping down on his side and snuggling his cheek against the man’s pudgy belly.
The sight makes Dolores and Mirabel grin and Luisa’s lower lip quiver.
“Looks like Toñito’s found a middle way.” Camilo arches an eyebrow.
No one is at all fazed when Mirabel darts away, skirt fluttering. Nor when they hear a few muffled thumps somewhere above them, followed by the sound of her shushing herself. Within moments she’s at the living room entrance again, heaving blankets and pillows at the others (Casita had to have helped with the load), and bounding ahead, lightly, with hers. She motions c’mon just as she’s starting to lay out her blanket in order to curl around her little primo, who wiggles his fingers at her.
“His tummy keeps making noises,” Antonio whispers, stifling a sleepy giggle.
Mirabel’s mouth forms into an o-shape. To her right, she catches a glimpse of Luisa settling on her quilt above Bruno’s head. “Maybe it’s better not to lie on it, hombrecito…”
“It’s okay,” Dolores says with an unconscious tilt of her head, from where she’s making a spot for herself. “Tío ate a little over an hour ago. He’s just slow to digest.” A satisfied Antonio mushes his whole face into Bruno’s soft stomach.
“Hey, save some room for your big brother.”
The teenager has shape-shifted into a… smaller version of himself—a bit smaller than Antonio, even. Nudging in between Dolores and their tío, he steals the former’s pillow so he can roll onto it, and rests his head opposite his brother’s. After a second or two of mild contemplation, he pulls an expression that reads not bad and gives an exaggerated yawn.
Pepa and Félix’s eldest shakes her head. Then her eyes flick off to the left… barely catching the shadow moving past the room.
The last things Dolores sees before she lies down beside Bruno are Luisa curved in an arc over him, body completely slumped and a gentle smile playing on her lips; and Mirabel rubbing circles into Antonio’s back as he drifts off, trying to fight the same fate…
In due time, the air turns fragrant with the scent of various wildflowers. Isabela slips into the room, a rolled blanket in the crook of her elbow, and conjures crowns for each of her family members. (No outrageous blooms, though she considers making an exception for Camilo.) When she’s finished putting the final touches on Bruno’s clovers, she claims the space by her youngest sister.
“Duerme bien,” she murmurs, letting her forehead rest against the already slumbering girl’s shoulder.
Everything falls silent.
Maybe he would have moved earlier. Coughed, or something. But, oh, these kids…
Bruno allows one eye to open a crack, then the other. Gingerly, he extracts his rather stiff arm out from under Mirabel, giving it the tiniest stretch and twist before placing his hand on Antonio’s head.
He smiles, and closes his eyes once more.
. . .
@junosaccount drew art of the sleep pile!!!!!!!! Thank you, thank you!!!!!

🌺🌸Florentis / Mysthictober Day, 4🌸🌺
List by @art_of_reku
It was time you guys finally got a picture of Jo, my Encanto OC and love interest of Isabela.
Jo uses both he/him and she/her pronounces, since he's neither and both a girl and a boy. I found it unrealistic to use they/them for a character in the early 60's.
But, like, why did this turn out so cute? 😭❤️
They're supposed to be this lovy-dovy couple, always hugging and just in need of constantly touching each other.
(This picture in particular would happen after the fic Over the Mountains [currently on hiatus].)

I am back! New chapter is now up! Sneak peek and link below.
Little sunlight passed through the trees. The bird's sweet chirping slowly died down, being replaced with caws from crows and falcons. Violet grew more worried with each step. She stayed close to Amelia, who was also growing slightly uneasy about their path choice.
The fog lightened up a bit, revealing new traces in the dirt. Shoe prints. They cautiously followed the marks in the dirt. It did not long until something peculiar occurred. The shoe prints turned into what appeared to be animal tracks. Large animal tracks.
“What made these?” Cole questioned. Xander bent down, examining the track. They were large, marks in the dirt. They were bigger than his hand, two small and two larger ones.

Introduction
Hi, everyone! Y’all can call me Rosie. I’m new to the Encanto fandom (well, in the sense of creating, anyway 😂) Pretty much all of my content at this point is going to be centered around Isabela, Mirabel, and Luisa, as y’all can probably tell by the name, because they are my favorite characters and I am seriously a giant sucker for platonic relationships.
I am an artist and a fanfic author, so if y’all have some requests for a small sketch or a oneshot, I’m all ears! Guidelines for fics are posted here 🥰💖
Also, always feel free to send in something through my inbox! I’m friendly and I don’t bite, and I love getting messages from people! 🥰

Questions answered by Jared Bush!
Tumblr media
“so it could be more.” 💀 💀 💀
Tumblr media
I CAN’T WAIT THAT LONG JARED YO ASS BETTER FESS UP AND TELL ME NOW!!!
Tumblr media
Now that…that just depresses me. Good thing Mirabel is such a good and sisterly cousin to Antonio. In this house, we stan.
Tumblr media
So I was right in my fic AIHY. 😕
Tumblr media
Interesting! 😳 It’s like they always say: You don’t need a gift to have a gift!
Tumblr media
LMAOOOO I love how everything Jared Bush confirms about this dude has to do with him being a teenager and nothing else. 💀 His entire character and personality is solely there to be the stereotypical teenage boy and nothing more and I am here for it. 🤪
Tumblr media
Awww that is so sweet! Reminds me of my fic when the granddaughters all camp out in Dolores’ room to have sleepovers! I need to shut up about my fanfic now.
Tumblr media
👀
And now for the unanswered ones because they are too funny not to put here.
Such as the queer ones.
Tumblr media
*w h e e z e* I assure you, nica, that Jared is not lesbophobic in any way however and I’m positive that we’ll see her girlfriend in a sequel or series! Or musical. Or all three.
Tumblr media
Ooh I would love that! 🤞 *winks thrice*
Tumblr media
Omg I’ma say it right now. I used to hc Dolores and Luisa as straight but now that I think about it the bi/pan Dolores hc is starting to have more and more appeal to me and this would just be so cute! Maybe a flashback where she’s shown having crushes on girls? Omg I’d love to see it! Mariano too is definitely pan. He said it himself. “I just have so much love inside!”
Tumblr media
I’ll answer for him: Yes. Because I’m also one. *’sup nods head at Isabela* Let ME tell you. Who needs Word of God when you have Word of Lesbian? Hmmm? 🤨
Now that that’s out of the way, moving on…
Tumblr media
😵‍💫 wtf I thought Ranma 1/2 fans were dead. Anyway in the words of their creator: “I don’t want to think about that, and neither should you.”
Tumblr media
Just…no comment.
Tumblr media
Omg I would love this! And unpopular opinion but I legit think that Mariano is smarter than he looks. I mean only Mirabel seems to think of him as dumb and only she calls him a “big dumb hunk”, like not even Isabela does that. And Dolores also fell in love with him for his poetry. And his grandmother says he wrote a song for the madrigals! I’d love to see the franchise continue to show his creative and artistic side more! I feel like he’d be the heart to Dolores’ head, and that is just beautiful.
Yeah that’s it for now, bye!

A single night (Julieta x Fem!Reader)
Tumblr media
a/n: this will be an age gap fic, please don’t read if that makes you uncomfortable.
a/n 2: this was supposed to be Luces de bohemia's first chapter
____________________________
Julieta sighed and tried not to let her face fall too much as she turned on her heel and walked away from the dance floor. Of course Agustín would be with her.
For all of her family, it was a blessing that the entire village came to help them rebuild their home. They were very difficult times for everyone and when the adrenaline of looking for Mirabel wore off, reality hit them hard. They had no home, they had no powers, they had nothing.
Fortunately, the same people who had been depending on them for years seemed to wake up at that moment and a lovely family lent them their home while they finished rebuilding Casita.
But there always has to see a bad side, right? And the brunette soon realized that there was a girl, Amelia, the baker's daughter, who always stayed longer. At first, it seemed like an act of kindness and she was grateful to her until she realized that the girl was spending too much time with her husband.
Now, Julieta wasn't an overly jealous woman and she trusted him…but she wasn't stupid either and anyone with two working eyes could see the way Agustín behaved with the girl. It was painfully similar to how he had behaved towards her when they first met. And the more time passed, the closer they became.
So she supposed that it was not surprising that today, at the party that the family had organized to celebrate the reconstruction of Casita and the return of their gifts, Agustín decided to ask Amelia to dance instead of his own wife.
“Breathe” she whispered to herself, clenching her fists in anger “it's just a dance, it doesn't mean anything”.
But she couldn't believe her own words. Perhaps it was the tiredness, the fatigue of having cooked all day, the pain of knowing that her husband had preferred to assume that it would take her longer to get out of the kitchen instead of going for her, or perhaps it was the way they both smiled at each other. Whatever it was, she knew, deep inside, that something was changing and there was nothing she could do about it.
_______________________________
You clenched your fists and felt your cheeks heat up as a couple of guys whistled at you and tried to get your attention as you quickened your pace. Because of these things you hated big parties and crowds. But your parents had insisted that you came.
A bit hypocritical of them, considering that they had not, in fact, attended. But your mother had told you that you were a Y/L/N and should bring pride to your family, and what better opportunity than to be seen in the middle of a celebration of this size? Aside from the Monteros, the Madrigals were probably the only family your parents respected, the only ones they didn't see as inferior, and they desperately wanted to be part of "Encanto royalty" so you had to make a good impression with least one of them, preferably the young shapeshifter you could marry.
You shuddered a little remembering that part of your talk with your mother. You had done your best to remind her that he was definitely too young for you. You were older than Isabela Madrigal, for God's sake! You weren't going to get involved with a child, that was a line you were NOT going to cross. No, just not.
Besides, you were not a fan of the Madrigals. You didn't hate them and you were aware of the great strength and help they were for the town, but you didn't kiss the ground where they walked like most people either. If you were honest, they scared you a little, especially the matriarch, Isabela and Pepa.
You had run into Alma on a number of occasions, mostly because of your parents' insistence on becoming close to the Madrigals, and the woman had always looked at you as if she were evaluating you, as if she were considering whether you were worthy of getting close to her granddaughters. You always felt like you were on an exam in her presence, one you failed every time.
With the redhead, it was more a fear of making her angry. It wasn't that you were bothered by her clouds or that you were afraid that she would strike you with lightning, in fact, you loved her rain and how beautiful it made the flowers look, but you were terrified of making her feel bad and making her hurt someone by accident because of you.
Isabela on the other hand…You didn't want to, you really didn't, but you really hated her. She herself you couldn't care less for, but it was her spoiled and selfish attitude, always above everyone else, that made your blood boil. It especially bothered you to see her attitude towards her younger sister.
It also didn't help that your parents constantly measured your life with Isabela's. You had always been in her shadow, learning all kinds of plant names and how to grow them, learning aerial dance to compete with her acrobatics. Your parents didn't realize that they were putting you in competition with a woman who could literally create flowers at will.
Though at least you had beauty on your side. That was something that you definitely didn't ask Isabela for, you had your own beauty, elegant and sweet, and as you grew older and your body developed into beautiful attributes thanks to the dance, the looks, and pretensions of the boys (and the occasional girl secretly) began to follow you wherever you walked.
Which was exactly what was happening at the time.
“I have to get out of here” you thought, quickening your pace.
You apologized to a couple of men you pushed in your haste to get away from there and nearly ran into one of the central pillars on your way to the door. You could almost swear that the house itself was laughing at your clumsiness.
However, your fear of a sentient house that could move of its own will (let's face it, Casita was scary), quickly turned to exasperation and you couldn't help but roll your eyes as the crowd cheered at the bursts of color that erupted from everywhere.
You didn't even have to turn around to know who they were praising. Maybe she dressed differently (and you had heard that she was now more fun), but to you, she was still the same spoiled girl who needed to be the center of attention. And you weren't in the mood to see her show that night.
"It's 9 o'clock, I can lose an hour before going home" you thought, looking at a nearby wall clock.
With luck, maybe the library was still open, and even if it wasn't, Mr. Montero loved you like a granddaughter and you hadn't seen him at the party, he'd probably let you stay there for a while. With that in mind, you gathered momentum again to break through the sea of people.
The exit wasn't far, a little less than 8 meters maybe, but it was difficult to make your way through the horde of zombies that applauded the colorful spectacle behind you. However, before your patience ran out and you started kicking people like a Spartan, something caught your eye.
A small blue spot stood out in the midst of all the warm colors that invaded the ground floor. One more look and you realized that you knew that pretty face. Julieta Madrigal, the only one in the family for whom you didn't feel any kind of aversion, reservation, or fear, on the contrary, you had always admired the woman for her altruism when cooking for an entire town for years without any complaint and always with a friendly smile.
When you were born, she already had a permanent place in the town square and she delivered treats to those in need with a maternal warmth that filled you. You never went to her when you got hurt, mostly as a small act of rebellion because you knew your parents would take advantage of even that to get closer to the Madrigals, but sometimes just looking at her from afar felt like a balm for your wounds.
However, at that time you couldn't find any of that warmth. The woman, hidden behind unfamiliar faces as she leaned against the wall, seemed more like a shadow than a person. Her eyes, which had always seemed beautiful to you because of the love that always filled them, were now full of sadness and tiredness that made you worry about her. She was a rose that was withering.
And yet, you couldn't help but approach her.
Julieta sighed while Isabela continued with her acrobatics. She loved that her daughter could be freer and experiment with her gift like she had never been able to, but the pain was still stuck in her heart and didn't allow her to fully enjoy the party.
On the one hand, she knew she was lying to herself because she had never known how to have fun at big, crowded parties. When she was young she used to hide in the kitchen, which was usually interpreted as a desire to be helpful and earned her several compliments from her mother and angry comments from her siblings (sometimes she still flinched when Pepa called her "perfect Julieta", although she knew that her sister had no bad intentions) and after she was married, her husband would keep her company, away from everyone. Except that Agustín was too busy at the time.
She clenched her fists, digging her nails into her palms as she tried to calm herself with slow breaths. She couldn't make a scene, she didn't even have the right to be angry, dancing with someone didn't mean being in love. Everything was fine, she was fine.
Out of the corner of her eye, the brunette saw someone moving toward her and when she turned appropriately, her angry, invasive thoughts vanished in one fell swoop. Her eyes immediately took in your beauty, from your hair to your adorably rosy cheeks. You seemed a little out of place if she was being honest, as if such beauty didn't belong in such a common place as this.
But what caught her attention the most and made her blush deeply (thank god for her dark skin), was the way you smiled at her. So tender, kind, maybe flirtatious? She wasn't sure, but she couldn't to look away from you, especially when you stopped inches from her.
You didn't know what had come over you, but you suddenly felt more sure of yourself, more daring and courageous. You weren't exactly a shy girl, you just didn't like dealing with people, but there was something about her that lit something in you. It was as if the universe knew that the woman needed company or distraction and you had been the chosen one.
Well, you had to prove yourself worthy of such an honor, right? Mustering up all the courage you could, you decided to take a little risk. Anyway, if she was offended at least you would have an excuse to get away from your parents' plans for a while, it was a win-win.
"Hi" you said casually, trying to reflect confidence in your posture "do we happen to have a mutual friend to introduce us?"
Julieta blinked and was silent for a moment. She had been too busy trying to calm her pulse and your voice had taken her by surprise. It was beautiful, almost divine, and it made her legs go weak at once. What the hell was happening to her?
It took her a moment to recognize the insinuation in your tone, and her brain immediately told her to back off, that it was inappropriate ground for a woman her age... but her heart beat faster at the look you gave her, reminding her of past feelings and In the midst of the sadness and anger she felt for Agustín, she decided to let herself go. Just for a moment.
You breathed a subtle sigh of relief as she laughed adorably, covering her mouth with the back of her hand. At least you hadn't messed up masterfully, and it was amazing how she seemed to lose years just by smiling. Your smile widened and suddenly being there wasn't so bad anymore.
___________________________________
"So, do you have a glass of wine with every girl you meet?" you asked with a smile.
"Only with the beautiful ones" Julieta winked at you.
You had been talking for almost an hour and had done little more than flirt with each other. Nothing too serious, and she was sure you had been subtle enough not to arouse suspicion, but the feeling was the same for her.
You were beautiful, your presence and the alcohol in her system, however little it was, made her feel nervous, like a schoolgirl with her first love. She didn't know what kind of powers you had, but the intensity with which you looked at her, with a longing and desire, made her feel attractive for the first time in a long time. There was also your beautiful voice and the ever-present smile on your tempting lips.
You made her feel younger, and if the way you'd been rejecting unwelcome suitors the past few minutes was any indication, then you seemed to be enjoying her company, too.
You found it difficult to focus on anything other than the woman in front of you. The original plan had been to be nice, maybe make her laugh for a bit, and then politely say goodbye, but it became impossible to walk away from her the moment she started opening up to you.
You had expected a demure and serious woman, too kind and tender to return your antics because that had always been the image she projected when you saw her from afar in town. But oh boy you had been wrong.
When the brunette felt comfortable with you, she had revealed herself to you as a magnificent creature, beautiful in appearance, ruthless in wit, and decidedly intoxicating in essence. Your subtle flirtations and teasing were returned with great skill, your legs weakening with every look she gave you and you weren't sure the way your heart raced when she got a little closer was healthy.
And yet, you have never felt more at home than in that moment, with a woman perfectly unknown in all but name, in the midst of a sea of noisy people and a nearly empty glass of wine in your hand. There was something about her that pulled you like a magnet.
"Are you saying I'm beautiful?" you raised an eyebrow and smiled
"I didn't think I was being so subtle" she replied, taking another drink but still looking at you.
"Maybe I was just too lost in your beauty to notice" you said.
Julieta hoped that if her blush was noticeable, you would attribute it to the effects of alcohol. A part of her scolded strongly. She had nothing to be doing here, flirting with a girl who could surely be her daughter. She was married, you were too young, and she shouldn't be doing this.
But the idea of separating from you hurt almost the same way it had hurt her to see Agustín with Amelia, maybe a little more. And that was what calmed her guilt because if her husband could keep an eye on a little girl, why not her? Yes, there was the clear difference that you two were women, but an innocent flirtation with no Intentions to be more wouldn't hurt, right?
"The cat ate your tongue?" you said after a few moments with no response "Or have I made you too nervous to think?"
You smiled when you saw her swallow and turn her head to the side to avoid your gaze. You really, really shouldn't be playing like this, it wasn't even in your nature to be so bold! But you couldn't stop, not when the older woman looked so sexy- BEAUTIFUL! She looked beautiful.
"P-perhaps" Julieta admitted, still not looking at you.
It wasn't a lie. You were intoxicatingly close yet heartbreakingly far away, and though she kept telling herself she had no intention of taking this any further than she had already allowed, her traitorous mind couldn't help but conjure up images of your lips on hers. Her hands itched with the need to touch you, but she had to hold her ground.
You were surprised at her response, but you laughed softly, thinking it was just another little joke. Although you had to admit the need disguised as nervousness in her voice echoed in you and it sent shivers down your spine. You were reaching dangerous ground and you knew it.
However, luck or curse, fate decided enough was enough, you had accomplished your mission and your breath caught for a moment when the clock struck 10. Damn.
The brunette was a bit surprised when you parted slightly and sighed in defeat. The atmosphere around you abruptly changed and that warm mist that had enveloped you a few seconds ago suddenly vanished.
“I'm sorry” you said, noticing the frown that made her look adorable “I have to go. I'm supposed to be back at 10 or my parents will be mad” you explained.
Suddenly, the years came upon her and Julieta could almost swear that she felt her hair dye more gray. Those simple words brought her back to reality and she felt as if she was on the other side of a chasm, separated from you by the clear difference in age, although she tried to hide it with a polite practiced smile.
"How old are you?" she asked, letting you catch the slight tease in her tone. "I won't have trouble for giving you alcohol, will I?"
"No" you laughed heartily "I promise I'm old enough to drink...and to flirt with beautiful women" you smiled
“Oh, were you flirting with me? I thought you were this cute with all the women you met" she joked
"No, only with those who have beautiful eyes, charming voice and are called Julieta" you winked at her.
She blushed deeply, but she tried to act like her pulse didn't rush as she set the glasses down on one of the tiles Casita picked up and walked you to the door.
"Well, thanks for keeping this old woman company for a while" she told you with a small smile.
"Thanks for putting up with this walking mess" you replied.
You looked at each other for a moment, goofy smiles on your faces and too reluctant to break eye contact. But it was getting late and you really had to go. So, using the last ounce of courage left in your body, you moved closer to her, mentally smiling when you heard her gasp softly and whispered in her ear.
"I swear that until a moment ago I was heterosexual"
Julieta had no time to react when you gave her a quick soft kiss on the cheek and turned away, hurrying away, leaving her with a burning face, a hollow chest, butterflies in her stomach, and an unhealthy urge to see you again soon.
It didn't occur to her, until a few hours later, when she was lying in her cold bed, next to an indifferent Agustín who felt further away from her every second, that she hadn't even asked your name.

Do you have any queer headcanons for the Madrigals?
None that are like solid in my head, I enjoy a lot of different fan interpretations and OCs to ship, so to me nobody has a set sexuality except the parents (even then they could be bi, but I’m not super into shipping healthy married couples with anyone else, so in my head they don’t really matter lol)
But here are some that I particularly enjoy when they come up:
- lesbian Isabela. I especially love when people ship her with a fem Bubo. Of course she doesn’t have to be lesbian just because of her character arc, and I love fic explorations of her just being uninterested or waiting for the right guy too. But it’s nice to see.
- bi Mirabel. I kinda hated that a lot of people early on were insisting she had to be bi because the flag appeared somewhere on her outfit... like that doesn’t mean anything, especially when it’s Disney. But I do feel like she could be bi for unrelated reasons. And those reasons are purely vibes. (Source: just trust me)
- gay Bruno. I’ll admit I’m not super invested in male OCs people ship him with, and that’s because my baby lesbian brain doesn’t want think about male sexuality lol. However. I do enjoy a gay reading of him because of the themes of his character, being the single uncle the family doesn’t talk about, yknow the vibes.
- This one I actually am attached to because I thought of it during the first time I saw the movie. I made a post about it a while ago, but basically I thought Dolores’ arc would be that she wouldn’t have the man of her dreams, but she would instead find the woman of her dreams. I guess I forgot I was watching a Disney movie, or just thought Dolores was a minor enough character that they could get away with it? But yeah bi Dolores. I do love her and Mariano though, and I haven’t seen her shipped with any OCs regardless of gender. This one’s just in my head. 💕

In Flew Enza
my-fan-side wrote:
The prompt is an Alma-Julieta sick fic. There’s some sort of flu out break in Encanto...
There was a little girl, and she had a little bird, And she called it by the pretty name of Enza; But one day it flew away, but it didn't go to stay, For when she raised the window, in-flu-Enza.
The town had come to a virtual standstill as parents spent the day waiting in the plaza for help from Señora Julieta Madrigal. After the first four children, Julieta knew she had an outbreak of the flu going on and immediately changed tactics. The stomach flu that started in the Encanto’s school had worked its way into most of the children in town. Thankfully none of them had been lost to the fevers. That at least she could help with. That and the body aches and help them sleep and regain their strength.
Isa and Dolores, neither of whom were still in school, had thankfully not gotten sick so they helped by making sure the youngest were brought to her first. So much vomit… Julieta spent most of the day reminding worried parents as she administered what help she could to wash their hands frequently. Keep the sick away from as many as they could. Feed them only small amounts of thin broth and her tea every four hours or so. The next day, a heavier broth and maybe an arepa. Let them sleep, but make sure the fever didn’t come back and if it did, send someone to her.
Julieta still chaffed at the knowledge she could not ‘heal’ a sickness like this with her Gift. It multiplied in the body too quickly. By the time someone knew they were sick, the fever and chills would have already started. It didn’t help that all of the younger Madrigal children had also gotten sick. Mirabel, Camilo and Luisa were all in the nursery together. Her mother insisted she help care her grandchildren, as many of the abuelas in town did. Julieta could not deny her or any of them that, she needed the help. As a consequence, a few of the older adults had also gotten sick, including her mother.
Bruno, who’d been helping with her kids, popped up in the plaza, looking completely stressed. Julieta worried it was because of one of the kids, instead she discovered he’d found their mother shivering with fever as she sat in the rocking chair near the window of the nursery. He’d already taken her to her room and Julieta looked at all the people still waiting and knew she could not leave. She made him one of the bundles, gave him her standard instructions and sent him home to deal with it.
Some hours later as the last of the townsfolk got what they needed, she sent Dolores to go check on her mother and father. Isabela, she sent to check on her sisters and cousin and give them all some broth and arepas she’d left for them.
Agustín helped her pack up her things and together they made their way back to Casita. Once home Julieta sat at the table, head resting on one of her hands, the other slowly stirring her coffee. She’d added a bit of chocolate to it and it smelled divine. The coffee wouldn’t really do much, she was way past overtired for that, but it tasted so good. Agustín sat across from her and she could see the worry written there. Neither had slept for a day and a half and he’d followed her like a ghost. Appearing whenever something needed to be moved or a specific herb was needed or bottling the tea she’d brewed. Only one ‘accident’ the entire time…Julieta tapped the wooden table with her finger tips five times after putting down her spoon. No need to tempt it.
There was the sound of thunder from upstairs and Julieta smiled. She’d banished Pepa to her rooms with only Félix allowed to come and go. She was heavily pregnant and a flu at this point would be the worst thing possible for her and the baby. Félix followed every one of her instructions, bearing the brunt of Pepa’s displeasure at not being able to see to Camilo herself but so far, so good. Agustín smiled as she again tapped the table five times. Julieta smiled as well.
As if called by the wood tapping, Bruno came in and poured himself a coffee and took a long drink.
“How’s Mamá?” Julieta asked and took a long sip of her drink.
“Sleeping now,” Bruno said as he twisted and rolled his shoulders.
“Fever?” she asked.
“She seems very restless, so probably.”
“Alright, I’ll check on her-”
“You will eat some food, Julieta.” Agustín interrupted.
She nodded. She’d poured a great deal of herself, maybe too much, into today. She never talked to anyone but Agustín about what she felt as she used her gift. Or maybe as Bruno believed how her Gift used her. As she got older, she learned to micro manage her strength as it left her and went into the foods she used. Never too much and hopefully never too little. The consequences of her decisions affecting the whole of the community.
Agustín was taking out some pans and ingredients, she was mildly curious what he would make with the boiled eggs and salsa he set on the counter. That and she really was too tired to try and stop him. Félix walked in and stopped. He sighed and came around her worktable as Agustín was getting ready to make…something and said, “Gus, whatever you are doing, stop doing it. I’ll make some food. Pepa is demanding mushrooms con queso,” he said with a shudder, “and there ain’t room enough in here for the both of us.”
Julieta watched them fondly as Félix flipped a coin. Her head still on her hand, stirring her now not so hot coffee. Bruno was next to her now with the coffee pot he’d brought over, now patting her on the back with his free hand. “Warm up?”
She smiled and nodded. Bruno filled her half empty cup. She dropped another piece of sweetened chocolate into it, and Bruno whispered, “It’s double headed.”
“Ha!” Félix said as he quickly stuffed the coin back into his pocket, “Heads again.”
Agustín relented then and stood near Julieta.
“Félix, I’ll be up in Mamá’s room,” she said as she got up from the table. Agustín was never good at hiding his irritation. “I promise not to use it, I just need to see to Mamá.” He nodded somewhat curtly as he put his arm around her to help her.
“I’ll bring you a tray,” Félix said, obviously worried as she wavered slightly when she stood up.
“Thanks, Félix,” Agustín said.
Julieta pulled a chair closer to the bed and replaced the damp towel on her mother’s head. Gently pushing the sweaty silver hairs from her mother face. Julieta was caught up in a memory of the last time something like this happened. She had been so woefully unprepared. So many sick people, her twelve-year-old self was completely overwhelmed. Discovering the limits of what her Gift could do at the worst possible time. Her mother had gotten sick that time as well.
After spending half a day trying to help and failing miserably, her mother came to her after rounding up Pepa and Bruno. “Do you need help, Juli?”
While she wanted to say no, she could handle it herself, the crying children had stomped on her pride flat. She could not help them, and it was killing her inside. “Yes, please,” she said in a defeated tone looking at her wasted morning labors with sadness. “Mamá, I don’t know how to help them. My Gift doesn’t seem to be working for this.”
Her mother nodded and turned to her brother, “Bruno, go and fetch Señor Jose, the fisherman who lives near the river. Let him know your sister needs his special help. Say it just like that, okay?” Bruno nodded and took off at full speed, dodging through the crowd as if someone was chasing him. Pepa’s cloud looked fit to burst and her mother said, “Pepa, me vida, can you fetch the basket I left on the table in Casita?”
“Yes, Mamá,” and she too took off running.
Her mother sat then on an upturned box and waived her closer. She pulled Juli into her lap and said “Chin up, Corazón, you are doing your best.”
Julieta did not agree, she should be able to do this and then a terrible thought brought her to tears, “What if they die, Mamá?” Julieta whispered, “it will all be my fault.”
“No, no, no, don’t think like that. Help is coming.” Her mother rocked a little to try and ease her growing fear but Julieta wondered what sort of help the old fisherman could give. She needed another healer not fish. Bruno returned, out of breath with Jose close behind. He looked out at the people in the plaza and returned his attention to her mother.
“Alma, what’s going on?”
“Julieta’s Gift does not appear to be useful against something like the flu,” she said it in such a matter-of-fact way. Jose nodded and saw the various items on the table seeming to dismiss most. He gently tipped the basket of blueberries and then looked at the people gathered. He knelt down and once he got Julieta to look at him, he asked, “Señorita, do you have any peppermint leaves?”
Julieta mentally checked her apron. She thought she’d picked some yesterday. She wasn’t sure if she taken it out of her pockets yet. Curiosity displaced her fear and she stood up and began to check. She found it and offered them up to Señor Jose.
He took them and turned to her mother saying, “Alma, we’re going to need some hot water and as many small bowls as you can find.”
Her mother only nodded and wrapping her shawl tighter around her, called to Bruno as she headed toward the shops. The people nearest were whispering furiously, but Julieta ignored them and went with Señor Jose as he picked up a bucket and walked her to the river just behind some of the houses near the plaza. He pulled a small bar of soap from his shirt pocket and said, “Okay, Julieta, first we wash our hands.”
From there he showed her how to make a mixture of the blueberries and peppermint. This would help the people with the fevers and aches they were experiencing. More smaller baskets of blueberries were dropped off and piles of peppermint leaves seemed to appear from nowhere. Julieta standing on a box took in all his instructions and was fully absorbed in what he was telling her. As she mashed and steeped, steeped and mashed, she felt her Gift pushing into the mixture. With Señor Jose’s help and guidance, she would help these people. She worked quickly to make enough of the stuff to give to everyone. She handed off the last bowl, smiled, and finally relaxed.
Julieta did not have a clear memory of what happened next. She was told by Bruno and Pepa that she’d collapsed and had barely missed smacking her head on the pavement. That had only happened once before. When she’d over used her Gift and drained herself to near exhaustion. Señor Jose had brought her back to Casita and sat with her until the next day when she woke up with a raging headache. He had her take a small pill he explained would help with that. He put three more on the bed stand and told her those should only be taken one at a time and always at least five hours apart.
She thanked him again for his help and asked if she could see her mother. She was told that she’d also come down with the flu and it would be best to wait until later to see her. He also admonished her for not letting him know she was nearing her limit. Reminding her that she could not help others if she was unconscious. Señor Jose got up to leave and Julieta said in a rush, “Wait, Señor…” He turned back to face her and she said, “Señor, can you teach me more. I mean more remedies and maybe how to better tell what’s wrong with someone? I don’t ever want to repeat what happened yesterday.”
He looked at her thoughtfully for a moment and said, “It would be my honor Señorita Madrigal. For now, no healing anyone until you get some food in you and some sleep. We can discuss it tomorrow.” He picked up his hat then and walked downstairs. Casita open the front door for him and he left.
Thankfully that outbreak had been relatively small and most recovered quickly. Her mother however was bedridden for several days and Julieta hovered over her at all hours. Señor Jose stopped in everyday to check on her and Pepa and Bruno helped by bringing food as they too stalked around Casita.
The town council members stopped by one by one to make sure the triplets were well, sometimes staying to talk to their mother for a while. Always ending the conversation by asking when the children would be available to work. Their mother’s guilt was plainly written on her face and this made Bruno especially angry.
No one slept in their rooms, opting instead to sleep on the floor in their mother’s room. On the tenth day, Julieta woke to the sounds and smells of someone cooking. She saw her mother was not in her bed, nudged her siblings and all three rushed into the kitchen.
Their mother was putting the last of the food she’d made on the table and said smiling, “Come, come my babies and eat.” Bruno, as always, was the first to reach her as all three wrapped their arms around her and hugged her furiously. They stayed like that for a while until their mother started to disentangle them saying, “Let’s go, let’s go. To the table.”
Julieta was pulled out of her ruminations by the sound of a tray being set on the table nearby. Bruno looked tired and she was about to say so, when Bruno asked, “Have you eaten anything?”
She shook her head and said, “I’m not really hungry, but I think we’re past the worst of it,” she said replacing the towel. “Tomorrow should be better. I was just thinking where I would start as far as checking on the children in town.”
Bruno came and sat on the floor in front of her and said, “And what magic is going to keep you upright? Or were you planning on having us carry you about on a litter while you do all this.”
“I’m fine Bruno,” her stomach chose that moment to protest her lack of food and Bruno said mimicking her way of speaking to unwilling patients, “Julieta Madrigal, you need to eat.”
“And you need to sleep,” she countered. “Don’t change the subject, woman. Eat…God help us all if you get sick too.”
How she wished that statement wasn’t true. She nodded, got up and sat near the table. “Where’s Agustin?”
“Lulu wanted her Papa. It’s why I came over here. Very insistent.”
Whatever was under the cloth cover did smell delicious and she snatched the towel back with a little more enthusiasm than necessary. Picking up the fork she ate a few bites of the eggs and mushrooms before sipping the tea. Félix had added some chili pepper flakes, so it had a nice kick to it. She picked up a strawberry from the plate and popped it in her mouth. She continued eating while watching Bruno attend to their mother and before she knew it her plate was empty.  Bruno looked over then and gave her smile. “Now go sleep, I can handle this ‘til morning,” he said making a shooing motion with his hands when she got up. She opened her mouth to protest, and Bruno said, “All your talking is going to wake Mamá.” Julieta would have pointed out that she’d said nothing since sitting down to eat but arguing with Bruno when he was right, tended to be a losing proposition. Agustín reappeared, quiet as ever and put a hand on her shoulder, and she said “Good night, Bruno. Come get me if you need me.” Bruno shooed her again as he nodded, and Julieta left the room with her husband.
Agustín opened the door to their room and Julieta sighed as she sat on the sofa near the door and asked, “Lulu get back to sleep?”
“Yes,” Agustín said sitting next to her as he put an arm around her and pulled her close. “Everything will work out mi vida, you did well, just as you always do.”
Julieta smiled then thinking of the many hours Señor Jose Garza, who was actually a doctor before coming to the Encanto, spent teaching her what he could of his craft. Before he passed, he’d gifted her all of his medical books and the journals he wrote describing many of the useful plants around the Encanto. She knew she’d never had made it through without the knowledge he’d given her. From what she’d seen before she left her mother’s room, she knew her mother would recover fairly quickly this time.
The next day she went to the Encanto’s small graveyard and stood before a grave that was further from the rest. The headstone was a little mossy as it tended to be this time of year. She came her every month to clean it up and brought Isa with her this time. She really wanted to dress things up.
Isa was not quite focused on where she was but said, “You know Mamá, I saw this one orchid in forest…and since were right here…by the forest.”
Julieta could tell her daughter was itching to try it so she said, “That sounds perfect Isa.” Isa did and Julieta hugged her as they bent down to admire the Tiny white orchids with pink and purple spots, “These are so beautiful Isabela, Thank you.”
She stood and brushed a leaf off the headstone and said, “Thank you Señor, you are still missed and I will be forever in your debt.”

______________________________
Bruno opened his eyes slowly, blinking a few times to bring his vision into focus. His heart fluttered when he saw Natalia standing in front of her vanity a few feet away from him, putting the finishing touches on her ponytail. He was instantly mesmerized by her as always–taking in the way her shoulder blades moved, the way her nose scrunched up when she concentrated, the tiny piece of her hair that always fell into her face no matter how many times she tucked it behind her ear.
After a moment, Natalia noticed that Bruno had woken up and looked over at him with a sleepy smile. She walked up to hi bedside him and gave him a soft, sweet kiss on the forehead.
“Good morning. I love you.” She whispered.
“I love you. Have a great day.” Bruno replied, a soft smile on his face.
A few minutes after Natalia exited the room Bruno sat up on the edge of the bed and stretched his arms out, letting out a big yawn.
He got dressed and opened the door to leave the bedroom. He took in the familiar sights and sounds of the casita that appeared before him, the magical chaos that he loved so dearly. He heard Camilo strumming on his guitar downstairs, practicing for an upcoming gig later that week. The booming sound of Felix’s laugh made Bruno smile uncontrollably. He couldn’t see either of them from where he was standing, but the joyful flow of Pepa’s sunshine poured out from the entrance to the kitchen below.
Before he could take another step he heard a whoosh , and looked over to see his oldest daughter floating beside him.
“Good morning Daddy!” Emilia exclaimed, kissing him on the cheek before quickly flying away. He chuckled, knowing any attempts to slow her down would be fruitless.
“ Good morning tío!” Mirabel said from the end of the hallway with a small wave. “Remember you need to stop by the bakery today to pick up the cupcakes for tomorrow!”
“No lo olvidaré, lo prometo!” Bruno said, smiling up at her as he headed down the stairs.
“Yow!” He heard a voice cry out in pain. He knew right away that it had to be Agustín. He stifled a laugh as he entered the living room, to find a grinning Julieta looking over at her grimacing husband.
“Caught your finger in the drawer again hermano ?” Bruno teased.
“Only for the third time.” Julieta replied with a crooked smile. “Today.”
“It’s been a really good day for me so far actually!” Agustín laughed.
“Breakfast is on the stove, Bruno.” Julieta continued. “ Huevos con chorizo.”
“Gracias Juli.” Bruno replied gratefully. “Need me to grab some for him to heal his hand?”
Julieta shook her head, smiling knowingly as she pulled a cracker out of her pocket. “Got it covered.”
“That is not how I said it!!” Bruno heard a loud voice say. As he entered into the kitchen he saw two of his nieces “arguing”, while also attempting to stifle their laughter.
“That’s exactly how you said it Luisa.” Isabela teased, pointing her fork at her sister. “You went, ‘I don’t wanna try on another skirt!!!’, like you were a little bebito throwing a tantrum.”
“It was the fifth skirt I’d tried on that day!!” Luisa retorted.
“All in the name of fashion, my dear little sister.” Isabela said smoothly.
Luisa rolled her eyes, putting another bite of food into her mouth.
“I’ll remember that next time you ask me to move all your inventory boxes around again.” She said in between bites.
“Ugh, fine. You got me there.” Isabela laughed, making Luisa laugh along with her.
“Fighting so early this morning sobrinas?” Bruno teased as he made his plate and sat down beside them. “I figured you two wouldn’t start until at least noon.”
“We’re not fighting tío, we’re having a...civil disagreement on past events.” Isabela said with a sassy grin.
“Your ‘civil disagreements’ are way too loud.” Dolores chimed in using air quotes, tiredly walking into the room. “I could use a little more civil agreeing this early in the morning.”
“It is 11 am, Dolores.” Luisa laughed. “Some of us have had full days already!”
“And some of us enjoy spending our days sleeping. In the quiet.” Dolores joked back.
“You wanting any quiet in this place isn’t likely to happen, mijita!” Felix said as he walked into the room, kissing his daughter on the side of her head as he passed.
“Speaking of things not being quiet, where are my kids?” Bruno joked. “I saw Emi a few minutes ago.”
“Leo’s out in the backyard playing basketball with Antonio.” Isabela answered. “Not sure where Luna is.”
“If I had to guess, she’s asleep somewhere.” Bruno said. “She thinks we don’t know she stays up late working on her inventions but she’s always zonking out around this time at some random location in the house.”
“In all fairness, that kitchen tool she invented for Mom was pretty cool.” Luisa shrugged.
“Cool indeed, but we’re trying to teach her that she can invent during the daylight hours too.” Bruno chuckled.
“She’s a noctámbulo like her dad!” Felix exclaimed.
“Agh yeah, that one’s definitely on me.” Bruno replied, a bit sheepishly.
The kitchen grew louder and more lively as more and more Madrigals came in and out for their breakfasts. Bruno reveled in the feeling of it all, his family surrounding him in his lifelong home. He missed Natalia during these weekday mornings, but took joy in the fact that she was at the bakery doing what she loved.
He headed out to the backyard to check on Leo, and no sooner did he step out onto the back patio was a basketball being thrown directly at him.
“Think fast tío!” Antonio yelled, Bruno barely catching the ball in time before it hit him square in the face.
“Nice catch Dad!” Leo called out.
“Thanks.” Bruno chuckled, tossing the ball to his son. Leo and Antonio immediately went back to their game, but the youngest Madrigal boy was no match for his older cousin. Antonio had a growth spurt in his teens and became the tallest member of the Madrigal family seemingly overnight. But despite how much he’d grown physically, he was still the sweet, caring, animal-loving Antonio they’d always known. Antonio and Leo were very close, bonding quickly over their shared love of aquatic animals. They spent a lot of time swimming in the magical pool in Leo’s bedroom, chatting about every type of shark, squid, and anemone a person could dream of.
Bruno felt a wave of nostalgia as he looked at how much his son had grown in just a few short years too, a quiet content filling his heart as he watched his son and nephew run around and enjoy a beautiful day.
“Have you seen your sister?” Bruno called out to Leo.
“Which one?” Leo replied, out of breath as he dribbled the basketball.
“Ha, sorry! Lulu.”
“Nope, sorry Dad!”
“Haven’t seen her either, sorry tío. ” Antonio added as he snatched the ball as it bounced.
“Oh well, my search continues.” Bruno shrugged. “Have fun you two!”
He went back inside to go search for his youngest daughter, and after some time not being able to locate her, he had a sudden thought and smiled to himself. He realized exactly where she was.
He approached the painting that covered the hole in the wall he had used for so many years when he hid away within the casita . It was never covered up or fixed, as the family felt it represented the growth they all had gone through and wanted to leave it as is. Bruno wasn’t surprised in the slightest when he learned that Luna had found the secret space, as she was inquisitive to her core. When she asked him about it after discovering it, he had been open with her about what the space used to be for and the life he used to live in it. Everything he said was explained to her in a way that would make the most sense to a young child. However, despite her age, Luna was pensive and understanding about her father’s story, finding the space to be fascinating rather than sad. She loved to sneak away to the tiny room now and then, using it as another quiet place to think and explore. She wasn’t unlike her father in enjoying some quiet time to herself within the lively casita .
Bruno pushed aside the slightly crooked painting and stepped inside the hole in the wall, feeling an odd sensation in his stomach. He was struck by what this motion used to mean for him compared to what it meant now. Before, it was a part of his darkest years, an entrance to the place he chose to hide, to cower. He watched his family helplessly through these same walls, his heart aching to be with them. It was a place where his deepest pain and darkest memories took root. But now, that heaviness had nearly entirely faded away. A part of it would always remain within him in some capacity, but the years had provided him, and all of the Madrigals, a remarkable amount of growth and healing. Now, he was entering that space to retrieve his daughter, a piece of his heart that he and the love of his life made together.
His suspicions were immediately confirmed as he approached a fast asleep Luna on a rug on the floor, a green crayon still curled up in her hand. Surrounding her were blueprint like drawings, etchings from her mind spilled onto the many pages. He scooped her up and she instinctively cuddled into his shoulder. He patted her back gently as he looked around his former home within a home. How dull the pain of those memories felt now, how many changes this space had gone through in his heart, it was an overwhelming experience in its underwhelmingness. He listened to the soft snores of his daughter on his shoulder and marveled in how far life had taken him since those dark years so long ago.

Later that afternoon, Bruno walked over to the bakery to visit Natalia and pick up the order Mirabel had placed for an upcoming family party. This walk between the casita and Moreno’s Bakery had become second nature for him and all of the Madrigals, both places feeling like home to the family. It was a picture perfect sunny day, a gentle breeze softly rustling Bruno’s ruana. He took a deep breath, savoring the sunshine on his face and the chatter of the townspeople surrounding him.
When he approached the bakery, the familiar chime of the bell above the door got his heart racing as it always did, because it meant he’d get to see Natalia in a moment. When he entered, Natalia was busy with a customer putting a few treats in a paper bag. Natalia glanced over at Bruno, her smile and the sparkle in her eyes immediately making his knees feel weak.
“Oh! Hola Bruno!” The customer said pleasantly as she turned around to leave.
“Hola Señora Lopez!” Bruno replied, holding the door open for the woman. “Grandkids doing well?”
“Están bien, gracias.” She replied sweetly. “Nati was just telling me all about your little ones!” She continued, pinching his cheek. “You’re a lucky man to have such a beautiful wife and family.”
Bruno beamed proudly. “I sure am.”
“Hasta luego Bruno, bye Nati!” Señora Lopez said as she exited, Natalia waving goodbye.
Natalia made eye contact with Bruno, her expression quickly growing sultry.
“Well hello , señor.” Natalia said in a low voice, sparks instantly flying between them.
Bruno’s cheeks flushed at her tone, but he wouldn’t let her get the best of him just yet. He approached the part of the counter where the cash register was, the only spot on that side where they could easily lean in close to one another.
“Hello to you, señora.” He replied, matching her tone.
“How lucky I am that such a sexy man decided to walk into my bakery today.” Natalia hummed with a flirtatious grin.
Bruno leaned in closer to Natalia’s face over the counter, gently taking her chin in his hand.
“I’m the lucky one today, mi bella.” He said softly out before kissing her deeply. She deepened their kiss, pulling on his shirt collar to bring him even closer.
When they pulled apart, Natalia’s breathing had quickened.
“Oh no, you don’t get to kiss me like that just once.” She stated.
Bruno grinned mischievously, nearly sprinting around the counter to approach her. Natalia took him by the hand and pulled him over to the small room around the corner that housed the ovens. He quickly pressed her up against the wall and their lips met again, fiery and passionate. He moved his hands under her shirt and up along her waist, a delicious sigh escaping her lips. Natalia ran her hand through Bruno’s hair as they devoured each other, the spring of his curls soft along her fingertips. Just as things began to heat up even further, the sound of the bakery’s front doorbell jingled. They pulled their lips apart from one another and started to laugh.
Natalia pulled her top down and smoothed it out. “Well, duty calls.”
She kissed the tip of his nose, a flirty grin on her face. “Until next time, mi amor .”
She walked out of the room to assist the customer, Bruno staying behind to collect himself. These stolen moments of passion that they always found time to share meant everything to both of them, the flame of their love for each other only growing as the years passed. Their love had become deeper and more complex, their relationship as friends, lovers, and partners strengthening as time went by. The years had brought them every emotion imaginable–joy, pain, loss, hardship, laughter, and everything in between. Throughout everything, they knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that they were meant to be together in every sense of the word.

Later that evening, the entire Madrigal family was gathered around in the casita’s living room. A record player gently played an album that the entire family loved. Camilo stood in the center of the room, putting on a show as he danced with Dolores and made their parents beam with joy. The casita moved with him, flipping around the floorboards and windowpanes along with the rhythm. Antonio sat on the floor beside them, his long legs stretched out in front of him and a jaguar cub asleep and purring away in his lap. Isabela and Mirabel flipped through books of Mirabel’s photography together, Isabela finding endless creative inspiration in Mirabel’s work. Luisa was cuddled up between her parents, chit-chatting about their days. Alma sat in her favorite chair in the corner where she could see everyone, smiling lovingly as she watched her family gathered around her.
Bruno was on the couch with Natalia beside him. Natalia had Emilia on one side of her, Leo on the other side, and Luna sitting on her lap. Natalia was singing to them softly, her voice gentle and sweet. The kids had dozed off a few minutes prior, so comfy and cozy at home amongst their loved ones that they could hardly keep their eyes open. Bruno looked at the room around him, taking in the experience. He watched his family all together, as close as ever before. Beside him, the love of his life singing with the beautiful voice he’d fell in love with immediately upon meeting her, and his children peacefully napping away in her arms.
Everything in his life had led up to a moment like this, a feeling of bliss and contentment washing over him like never before. He thought about how far he’d come from all those years ago when he first heard Natalia singing at a restaurant he likely never would have visited without a little encouragement from the people who loved him. This moment filled his soul with a song more beautiful than he could have ever dreamt of. One of gratitude, one of joy, one of love.
Looking over at Natalia, their children, their family–they truly made up every single note of the song of his heart.

updates you a lot lol! hes like "Just fucking pranked my brother" and sends a photo of camilo going 🙁🖕
is on call with you everynight ! you two fall asleep together kekekeke
pepa caught him on a call with you once and introduced you as a friend LMAOOO but she knows u two r more than that
you two planned on meeting up someday :) and carlos made sure that that would happen bcs it'd be the day you'll let him be your boyfriend
^^ félix is the first to know about this. he is ecstatic
félix dropped off carlos when u two met up and talked to you for a while :) safe to say he approves of u all the way until marriage
marriage is a long way but HEY you two do talk about it from time to time :) making silly little moodboards for how it'll look and shit
owhhhh camilo wants to meet you so badddd so he cld make fun of his brother
"Let me meet them, please?" Camilo has begged his brother countless times to meet this person he's been on calls with many nights. Carlos rolled his eyes, why does he want to meet you anyways? He wasn't a big fan of online relationships.
"Give me a good reason."
Camilo smiled. "Because I'm your brother and I want you to be happy?"
Carlos scoffed. "Gross."
"I'm being caring?"
"Don't do it again. Now, go away." Carlos put his earphones on. "I'm going to call them while they're studying."
"That doesn't sound like good boyfriend behavior."
Carlos sighed. Like Camilo knew about dating. "I'm supporting them."
"Okay. I want to give my support too, and details about how you act around them. For research."
"Fuck you, what research?"
yeah. u two go on little dates in call <3
the fucker spoils u actually. when you talk to him abt your problems, he has food delivered to your place (starts sobbing)
^^ the food has little messages too. CRIES
oh he was very much happy for you to meet his primas & hermana.
"Make sure Camilo doesn't get in."
"On it!" Mirabel pushes Camilo out of his shared room with Carlos.
"What the fu–! Hola, mami!"
"Finish that sentence."
Carlos, along with his cousins and sister didn't mind Camilo's shriek when his ear got twisted by Pepa.
"They're very nice, okay? Don't bombard them with any questions. Me gustan mucho. (I like them a lot)."
Isabela sighs, "Was never a fan of online relationships. They were too messy for me. But I'm glad yours seems pleasant. Open the call!"
Carlos takes a deep breath. Now or never. His family was going to know you at some point.
"Hola, Y/N." Carlos smiles at you, your camera still isn't open. "Hola! Let me open my video real quick. Hello to your sister and cousins, too!"
Your video is open and a bright smile is on your face. I can hear the angels singing, actually. Carlos thinks.
"Carlos told me all about you guys!" You laugh. "Dolores is the sister, right?" Dolores nods. "I caught him asking my boyfriend for help with a poem he wrote for you."
You raise your eyebrow at Carlos. "A poem? Didn't know you were quite the poet, amor."
"Ooh, they called you 'amor'." Mirabel teases Carlos in a sing-song manner. "So, Y/N, tell me. Is Carlos... sweet?"
"Very much! He's always there for me, and I'm so grateful for that."
Carlos starts blushing. I am never hearing the end of this.
"You're Mirabel, the one who knows how to make clothes! Oh, Carlos showed me that sweater you knitted for him during Christmas... so cute!"
You pull up a photo of Carlos wearing the sweater. "Maybe I should make one for you! You two could match!" You put your thumb up.
"Are you sure you're dating Carlos? This doesn't sound a lot like him." Luisa laughs. Even Luisa? I am not eating with the family later.
You laugh along with her. "Right? He was really silent during our first few calls. Apparently it's because Camilo's nosy."
"I can hear you!" Mirabel hits the door. "Stop eavesdropping!"
im too lazy to write the rest of that basta his whole family likes you!!!!
GAHHhhhh hes so protective of u Im crying
he met your family as well and theyre like "..U two r 15. r u sure of this?" and he has this whole speech (camilo helped prepare it)
ur parents are okay with it :) just stay safe or smth since its online lol

Some Encanto head canons
Bruno has aphantasia. This is why his visions manifest the way they do. It's also a big part of why he needs sets and actors to play out his telenovelas. He can't actively imagine them.
Félix survived a major hurricane as a child. Rather than being traumatized, he became fascinated by severe weather. He is a storm chaser at heart, and if he had a dream vacation destination, it would be either the Gulf/Caribbean region during hurricane season or Oklahoma during storm season.
Isabela's preferred type is the clumsy nerd who never gives up and always puts family first, because that's the type of provider she always saw modeled in her own father (this is based on an early concept for a character). She has also become keenly interested in botany and is her mother's go-to for herbs. She knows exactly which plants in Colombia will kill you and which ones you can use.
Casita modified most of the family's rooms after being rebuilt to be more suited to what they needed. Dolores' room is soundproof, Isabela's room looks similar in many ways to Antonio's jungle, Luisa's room is an in-home spa with adjacent gym, Mirabel's room is bigger on the inside and full of storage for her arts and crafts, and Bruno's room is stairs-free and looks much more relaxing.
Alma is a slapstick and vaudeville fan, but would never openly admit it. Camilo is the one who has the easiest time making her laugh.
Luisa is the biggest Greek mythology nerd in Encanto. By a lot. She also studies classical architecture in her free time and wishes she could tour Europe's cathedrals.
Julieta hasn't recieved a present not related to the kitchen from anyone since she was five, with the only exceptions being her engagement ring from Augustín and embroidered clothing or bags from Mirabel. Even then, Mirabel is where Julieta usually gets a new apron or kitchen towel. She wishes that she could just get a set of candles or a new book as a present for once.
Pepa's favorite weather phenomenon is the rainbow, because it means the storm has passed. She can most easily create rainbows following an emotional release, so they also represent freedom to her.
Antonio has a picture book of African animals his paternal grandmother sent him, and he's hooked. His family worries that someday he might try to bring every critter in Africa to Colombia. It doesn't help when Bruno casually mentions something about hippos clogging the rivers in the northern part of the country in future decades.
Dolores had to learn selective hearing in order to cope with all the overwhelming sounds in her world. She can actually fail to hear a family member talking to her in the same room because she is focused on a selection of sounds or conversations.
Augustín is allergic to bees, strawberries, shellfish, and whatever else I deem appropriate to the plot of a fic.
Camilo is, of course, the theater kid in the family. But his idea of relaxing and enjoying himself is listening to classical music. He swaps a lot of records with Alma and Luisa.
Mirabel is a natural strategist. She's good at chess, math and logic puzzles. She's highly capable of seeing angles most people never consider, and can combine logic and emotion to read a situation and cut to the heart of it. She is arguably the most intelligent Madrigal.

Note
I couple of people in the encanto fandom (mostly on Ao3) write fic we’re Mirabel goes and become part of the warm family because the blue family is bad or just fallows Abuela. What’s your thoughts on that (since you’re like the number 1 mama Julieta fan)
I wish there were fics were the warm kids go to Julieta’s…
*deep inhale*
I HATE THOSE AUS. I HATE THEM SO MUCH.
I just... Don't like making Julieta and Agustin bad parents. There's no indication they were bad parents. Sure, we don't see them really interacting with Isabela or Luisa, but have in mind that the movie is told from Mirabel's POV, the time span is like 2-3 days, the family is big, the plot has to develop and there was just no time to include everything in there.
Also, there's no way Julieta and Agustin "I was thinking of my daughter" Madrigal would just give up on Mirabel because Alma wished so. If it came to that, I'm almost sure Julieta would start with rationalizing with her mother because surely, she can't do something like that to her own granddaughter, right? And if it failed, she would probably threaten with moving out of Casita or leaving Encanto. I'm sure she would never turn her back on her baby. Agustin even more so, since Alma never really like him that much and I hc they have a strained relationship with its ups and downs, definitely, and he wouldn't accept this shit like EVER.
I don't like when people make Julieta a bad submissive mother only to make Pepa the good one, the better one. Uh, they both have their flaws. Julieta is a little not confrontational enough and tends to... heal the symptoms, not the causes, but Pepa, on the other hand, is an emotional mess and her kids had to adjust to her. I imagine it must have been especially hard for Dolores after she got her gift. There's a reason I hc that out of all the kids, Dolores is 100% daddy's girl and has a better bond with Felix.
That being said, I don't think Pepa is a bad mother. They're just 100% different. Their kids have different characters, different gifts. Both Julieta and Pepa have different husbands with different personalities and upbringing, probably. There are so many factors when bringing up a kid that would shape their character and so on. It's clear to me all the Madrigal parents love their children and vice versa.
Also, I don't think people would write the warm kids going to Julieta for two reasons:
The fandom seems to think that Julieta is a worse mother than Pepa because her daughters didn't tell her about their problems/Julieta didn't see they had problems. They also think Julieta is weak and wouldn't stand up to Alma because throughout the movie she's quiet and calm, so the total opposite of Pepa. I disagree with that and I could write a whole ass essay on why I disagree. But it's not the point here, I touched it a little up there.
I have this impression that if you ever tried to make Pepa a neglecting mother or something (I'd hate it as much as I hate making Julieta a bad mother honestly), the fandom would get pissed, because Pepa is liked more, and they would say you're villanizing her.
I would stand by my opinion that Julieta's kids should stay Julieta's and Pepa's kids should stay Pepa's (unless we're making one of them a birth mother to all of them, like making all Julieta's girls Pepa's biological children or something). For that reason, I don't like the fics where Julieta's daughters are more likely to go with anything to Pepa than to their own mother. Like... I get that all the kids have basically two sets of parents, that's how it goes when there are adult couples with their children living in one house. It's only natural to be close to each other.
But I really don't think any of the kids have a closer bond with Pepa than they have with Julieta. I think Isabela is a typical Abuela's girl, Luisa is daddy's girl and Mirabel is mommy's girl through and through. After the movie, Isabela and Mirabel are probably both mommy's girls when Luisa has Agustin all to herself lol. But if any of them wanted to share (they never did, they hid their struggles from everyone) their feelings, I think they would go to Julieta or Agustin because they know they would receive support. The only reason why they hadn't done it before was that they didn't want to disappoint Abuela. But after the Casita crisis? I bet they became very, veeeery close.
I... Got carried away... I'm sorry but those fics piss me off terribly, I just... Don't like them, don't read them, avoid them. I saw one fic and disliked it very much, so now I'm warier of tags and PLEASE if you do this shit, tag it Bad Parent Julieta Madrigal because it's always like a knife in the heart when I'm enjoying a fic and then they do my Julieta so dirty–
(Also, I know you meant Julieta, like, adopting the warm colours kids, but there are some fics out there where Pepa's kids come to Julieta for comfort... I wrote a few myself, so you know... If you ever wanna read them... I recommend. Lol.)

Naoko's fanfics masterlist
Tumblr media
Hello! It's Naoko! I'm french and I'm writing fanfictions for years. I actually started as a teen after discovering anime and paused it in a really long time. I continued to write some OS for my best friend with our OCs though because she's my number 1 fan (we even met like that).
I figured I should do a masterlist of my works! A masterlist divided in three parts : those in french, those in english, and drabbles/ficlets that I post of Tumblr. Those parts are divided in subparts with the fandoms.
I then divided my ficlet/drabble as "old format" vs "new format" because at some point I discovered it was generally better to include the replies in the paragraphs. And I decided to change Bruno's fangirl format to this one so now it only concerns my drabbles and ficlets.
Just know that I'll spare you my cringe fics!
Fics in english:
Encanto
Bruno's fangirl (Bruno madrigal x fem!reader/OC) (Reader has a name and I don't use you) - Completed and rated G
fluff / humor / light angst / no smut / Isekai
While Mirabel is in a bad posture, because of Dolores starting to spread the information about her finding Bruno's vision, her cousin hears someone entering the house. Gone to check who it is, Mirabel discovers a woman wearing strange clothes she saw earlier at the town.
And that woman seems to be interested by Bruno.
A new miracle (Bruno x fem!reader/OC) (Bruno's fangirl's sequel) - oneshot rated G
Domestic fluff / humor / Pregnancy
"Now," continued Alma, clearing her throat. "Which one of you may be pregnant?" Perlita’s eyes widened, suddenly reminding what she had forgotten: Jared Bush said that, when a Madrigal child is expected, a door will start to cook. Too stunned to answer right away, she looked at her family as Alma was being replied by Julieta, "Mamá, Pepa and I can't have kids anymore. It can't be us." "Not me either," claimed Dolores while Pepa was nodding. "I didn't see Mariano at all for three days." Eventually, they all turned to her, who turned to Bruno as she was realising it can only be them. He probably did too, since he suddenly fainted with a gasp.
The Marvelous Mayhem of the Madrigals Minds - Ongoing and rated G
Fluff & Angst / attempt at humor / no smut or incest / Original female character of color / Therapy
When a therapist meets the Madrigal family and gives up her vacation to help them feel better.
Mirabel into the Brunoverse - Completed, rated M
Halloween fic/injury/corpse/violence/Mourning/Guilt/Blood
A door suddenly appeared inside Casita, letting some alternate versions of Bruno enter the house, all immediately renamed by the family. But it also permitted a more villainous one to enter, named Evil Bruno.
To beat him they must find the Great Alejandra, the amazing founder of the Encanto in most worlds.
Lovers for a day (and beyond) (Bruno x GN!reader) - Oneshot, completed
Aangst & Fluff/hanahaki disease/drunken flirting/Bruno has self-worth issues
The day after a party, Bruno wakes up to find you, his crush, in the courtyard, claiming he's your boyfriend. In front of his amnesia due to alcohol, and his hesitation, you suggests him to go out with you during one day, and decide at the end of it if he wants to continue.
Drabbles/Ficlets (under 2000 words) (On tumblr and on Ao3):

A cheval sur ses principes (On wattpad) - OS

Alex déteste My Little Pony. Vraiment, cette série et le fandom qui s'est développé autour la dégoûtent, surtout le fandom. En plus elle ose avoir été transformée en poney ! Ou pas... Mais qu'est-elle devenue ?
