Summary: After breaking up with ex-fiance Meng Yao, Nie Mingjue moves into a new apartment and gets pulled into friendship with the toddler down the hall and his single mother, Jiang Yanli. - “Are you going to stand here and argue with me or are you going to move out of the way so I can set this down?” Her face brooks no room for challenge. “Good, now step aside.” She sweeps past him and finds a space on his countertop for it. “There.” She turns around, hand brushing over Baxia’s head as the dog circles her knees. “Do you have any food allergies? Anything you can’t eat? You’re not vegetarian? Are you alright with spices?” ‘A little odd to ask after you’ve already bullied me into taking it,’ he thinks and says instead, “I eat just about anything.” He watches her relax and realizes she'd been worried, “Oh good.” She says, “I tried to make it a little more mild than usual; last time I made this soup I found out my brother-in-law was vegetarian and has terrible acid reflux. My A-Xian wouldn’t stop laughing, knew the whole time no shame or sympathy for not telling me!” Kay's comments: A very cute and fluffy modern AU with a friendship that I haven't seen explored in fanfic often: Nie Mingjue and Jiang Yanli! Nie Mingjue has recently broken up with Meng Yao and Jiang Yanli is Jin Ling's single mother in this. Jin Zixuan is alive, but there is drama, which I love, because yeah, I want to have Xuanli explored as a broken relationship too!) So, Nie Mingjue and Jiang Yanli! They strike up an unlikely friendship and Nie Mingjue helps out with Jin Ling and there's also some background Wangxian. Very adorable story! Excerpt: He knows her ex is a horribly awkward person, he assumes he knows where they live though Yanli has said he’s never been there. He isn’t going to do anything. It’s not his place to intrude. He’s going to see Xichen, doesn’t want to be late when the man shows up chronically twenty minutes early. But he can’t help brushing a little too close past the man on the way to the elevator. The man startles, turning towards Mingjue and revealing himself. “Mingjue-ge.” The man says and he’s never been easy to read, but the slightly rushed way in which his name came out and complete lack of change in facial expression screams to a specific horror Mingjue has spent most of his life trying to decipher from a different face. “Wangji?!” He chokes out, betrayal punching deep below Mingjue’s diaphragm. Wangji is VERY gay and certainly cannot be capable of having a child only to abandon him? He’s adopting, for Gods’ sake! “Mingjue-da-ge!” another voice shouts as a body drapes itself around Wangji’s shoulders and back. “What are you doing here?” The new man beams. He drops something into Wangji’s hand and Mingjue watches as his best friend’s baby brother’s ears turn bright red when their fingers brush, face unmoving. “Wei Ying.” He greets and motions down the hall, “I live here.”

Headcanons/Thoughts about a Fem!WWX/ Yiling Matriarch AU

If Wei Ying is a woman, then so is Jiang Cheng. I don't make the rules.

That means someone else has to be the heir, so obviously Jiang Yanli is a man in this universe. The dynamic doesn't change much (shige is just as caring and just as good at making soup and parenting his menaces as shijie was, a'Ying is just as chaotic and a free spirit as a'Xian and a'Cheng is still angry and jealous and prickly) but it does a tiny bit, because a male Jiang Yanli has a lot more responsibility on his shoulders and a female Jiang Cheng as a bit less of it, because she isn't the heir (but she's still her mother's daughter, so...only a bit.) Jiang Yanli has eldest daughter syndrome in any universe.

Madam Yu is a tiny bit less hostile than in canon, because yeah, she still thinks that girl is her husband's bastard, but even if she was recognized Wei Ying couldn't be a threat to the position of Madam Yu's son. So she's still pissed, but a tiny bit less.

Jin Zixuan is a woman and has three younger sisters. Why? Because a male heir was needed and her parents had to keep trying. Unfortunatly Jin Guangshan seems incapeable of having legitimate sons. (Meng Yao is still male. And Qin Su is male too, for hilarity's sake. - all of Jin Guangshan's bastards are sons and two of them are older than his eldest legitimate daughter.) That makes Jin Zixun the heir to Lanling Jin.

Nie Mingjue is a woman. She runs the Nie Clan with an iron fist, officially as her brother's regent. A lady of war, brandishing a blade red like the blood it has spilled. (Her brother doesn't want to inherit. He wants to lounge around like a wet blanket and paint dainty things forever! Why couldn't he have been born a younger sister to an older brother, he laments to his friends. Embroidery and accounting and getting married off far away from where he has to do saber practice every day sounds like a dream actually! "Poor a'Sang! You would have been such a good little sister!", Wei Ying coos dramatically. "Suck it up, Huaisang.", Jiang Cheng grumbles, "And don't you dare cry into my robes, that's silk you fucking heathen.")

Lan Xichen is the heir to Gusu Lan. He loves his little sister dearly and would do just about everything to ensure her hapiness. Yes, even argue with the clan elders. Just a tiny bit. His aunt is completely done with his behaviour. (Not that she's any better.)

Acting Sect Leader of the Gusu Lan is Teacher Lan, the Sect Leader's younger sister. Yes, Fem!Lan Qiren. Sue me. It's mostly because the Lan seperate male and female students, and for me that means that there must also be a division between male and female teachers. So to teach Wei Ying and hate her on sight Lan Qiren has to be a woman. Sorry, not sorry.

Lan Zhan is the first daughter and second child of the Lan Clan main family line. Nothing really changes about her other than her adopting a'Yuan causing a much larger scandal (because unmarried woman suddenly has a child is much worse than unmarried man suddenly has a child, duh).

Nie Huaisang befriends the Lotus Pier girls when Wei Ying sneaks into the men's part of the Cloud Recesses one night out of curiosity and runs into him while he's being a tortured artist (read: drawing filthy porn outside by flickering candlelight because his roommates are asleep).

After the destruction of Lotus Pier Jin Guangshan offers the Jiang support - if Jiang Yanli marries into the Jin Clan, effectively making Yunmeng Jiang a part of the Jin sect. The marriage happens, but Jiang Cheng takes over as Leader of Lotus Pier to keep it independent. (Nie Huaisang volunteers to marry into her family and support her because he's turning twenty soon and he really doesn't want to be sect leader. His a'Jie vetoes it.)

Jin Guangshan marries one of his daughters to a male Qin Su, knowing full well that the boy might be his son. The newly named Jin Guangyao is in charge of wedding preparations. He is the one Madam Qin tells to stop the wedding. Obviously he doesn't.

Mo Xuanyu is still a man (very short from malnorishment and with a very feminine face, but still a man) . He apologizes for that fact quite a lot in his notes when he offers his body to the Yiling Matriarch.

The Junior Quartet consists of a Lan boy, a Lan girl who doesn't give a flying fuck about the fact that the rules say she should be on an all girls team, the heir to Lanling Jin and the heir to Baling Ouyang.

It takes place after the main events of the book, but Wangxian isn't actually together yet, though WWX is staying with LWJ at cloud recesses. Anyway, they go on a night hunt, and WWX gets a curse that leaves a physical mark. The curse ends up being transferred to Sizhui. Throughout the story, LWJ fears WWX is gonna up and leave any day, while WWX fears he overstayed his welcome. Especially after the curse moves to Sizhui, WWX feels worse and actually considers leaving. On the night hunt, however, they met a rogue cultivator that follows them back to CR out of "concern", saying he wanted to help when in reality, he was the cause of the curse and was aiming for WWX out of revenge. As they were asking around, WWX flirted with a girl as usual. But It turns out that girl was the sea demon and she took LWJ. WWX was so terrified because once the morning came, none of the victims were ever found alive.

Main while, LWJ who was captured under the sea had to buy some time for his husband to come to rescue him, so he told the sea demon the most intrigued story: his love life. Which she was hooked. And he left it at a cliffhanger when she asked for more. The sea demon who unknowingly became a fan of Wangxian had no choice but delayed her meal. So LWJ managed to buy a few more nights by reciting the whole novel of MDZS.

It’s a wangxian centered post canon fic where they have adopted some children and in the beginning of the story most of their children have grown up already and sizhui has a family. I remember the story including wangxian going on a nighthunt and they both die unfortunately. But i think they got transported back into the past? I’m not quite sure but they’re definitely still alive somewhere just not in their present time. There was a really sad chapter where their children hold the funeral for both of them and Sizhui breaks down in front of his adopted brother.

My favorite Mo Dao Zu Shi fanfictions pt. 1

Ever since I've fallen down the Mo Dao Zu Shi / The Untamed rabbit hole, I've discovered lots of nice fanfictions that I think many others would also enjoy.

A Fog and A Flame || XiCheng by WhydaWannaKnowHuh ->Summary: "The first thing Lan Xichen saw when his consciousness returned to him was skin. Some of it snow white: that was his skin. The rest was a shade darker, tanned and caressed by the sun all its life. Beneath him, panting, breathing hard, hair loose and sprawled out around him. Those dark almond eyes half-lidded, filled with a desire so strong it felt like falling. It was not hard to guess what had been happening." ->What I think: It sounds like there is some more mature content in there, but it's only implied, not described (rated Teen on AO3). As we all know, Lans cannot handle alcohol. Despite knowing it, Lan Xichen still drank, not bothering to expel it through his golden core, leading to a chaotic night with Jiang Cheng. This was a really nice read: The author, while writing good depictions of the characters used, managed to showcase Lan Xichen's love and caring for Lan Wangji, while building up a pretty realistic and well-planned relationship between the two of them. A special chapter at the end featuring the PoV of Lan Yuxin, a young disciple of the Gusu Lan Sect, who was told to keep guard outside Lan Xichen's room, making it all the more enjoyable. ->Ships: Lan Xichen x Jiang Cheng, Wei Wuxian x Lan Wangji ->Where to read: Quotev (complete and published with 11 chapters and an extra), AO3 (complete, written in oneshot format with an extra)

Rewrite the stars by moonlit_dewdrops ->Summary: "What if Jiang Cheng found out about the golden core earlier? What if he had tried pulling Suibian out from its sheathe right after recovering the sword from the Wens? AU story about how Jiang Cheng and Wei WuXian's relationship is affected by the suddenly reveal of truth and how it will affect the rest of the plot" ->What I think: A much happier plot the the original. In this fanfiction, Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian's relationship does not get ruined like it did originally and the Wen remnants actually get a happy ending instead of being killed. Personally, I sympathize with Jiang Cheng, so I love to see the stories where he and Wei Wuxian have a close bond as brothers and that Jiang Cheng gets a happy ending. If you're looking for something warm and shows Wei Wuxian, Jiang Cheng, and Jiang Yanli's relationship, read this one. You won't regret it. ->Ships: Wei Wuxian x Lan Wangji, Jiang Cheng x Wen Qing, Jiang Yanli x Jin Zixuan ->Where to read: Wattpad (complete and published with 23 chapters and a prologue), AO3 (complete with additional ten-part fanfic with extras)

The Twin Prides of Yunmeng Wake Up In The Past by HarukiUsagi46 ->Summary: "After the dual between Wei Wuxian and Jiang Wanyin, the two of them doesn't know that when they fall asleep that night they don't know what is about to happen to them. While sleeping in his bed Wei Wuxian hear, "A-Xian time to wake up. A-Cheng and you already sleep pass your breakfast." Wei Wuxian shot straight up, 'Jiang shushu? No way, isn't he suppose to be dead,' Wei Wuxian look around the room, 'I'm back? I'm back in my room, back in Lotus Cove. No way is this happening.' "WEI WUXIAN WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON HERE? HOW IN THE HELL DID WE END UP HERE IN THE PAST?!" What will the two boys do? Will they change the past? Will they keep everyone alive including the Wen remnant? ->What I think: I just love fanfics that showcase the bond between Jiang Cheng and Wei Ying, okay? This is another good example of one. After their planned duel, the two of them find themselves in the past, determined to change everything for the better. Plus, the Wen remnants actually got the happy ending they deserved AND Xue Yang got to have a nice life in this, too! So many MDZS-related things I love to see compiled in one... ->Ships: Wei Wuxian x Lan Wangji, Jiang Cheng x Lan Xichen, Jiang Yanli x Jin Zixuan ->Where to read: Wattpad (complete with all 23 chapters)

Hi hello I am once again back on my bullshit™.

I have had an idea for what I will call Music Band AU. I do not have a plot (yet), my brain isyelling "Scott Pilgrim" likeits life depended on it, but I do NOT want that, I have something a bit different in mind.

So.

I have, as clear as day, the Lans as being classical musicians/traditional musicians and also composers. They play traditional chinese instruments like the xiao, the erhu, the qin, etc along with some western musical instruments like the clarinet, the piano, the strings. I do not have any idea who plays what, I will figure it out later.

Nie Mingjue is the owner of an indie music studio and he publishes mostly metal kind of genre.

He is also the owner of a Nightwish-like Metal band whose vocalist Meng Yao abandoned everything to follow his father Jin Guangshan's Big Brands Studio.

Something he will eventually regret, but ATM we are not there yet.

Anyway.

Enter the Jiangs - beloved and beloathed. JFM and YZY are one of those who are like "yeahmy child is so gifted and talented, let's ruin their life forever by forcing them in the music industry". You know. Like Michael Jackson's parents, or Britney Spears' parents, that turned out oh-so-well.

In fact.

Yanli is a beloved pop idol à la Blackpink and Jiang Cheng is trying but his voice is not made for pop - he does try pop-punk but yet again, too rough, or high, or low, and he's never good enough, for JFM's standards.

And also there is "adopted son" Wei Ying who is doing just GREAT and BRILLIANT job at being the pop idol whom Lan Wangji, dragged out of his shell by Nie Huaisang, bc LXC and NMJ are besties, is absolutely head over heels, so what use is JC in JFM's eyes?

Needless to say, there is a lot bickering, fighting, yelling.

*uh, I have just had a flashback to my experience, no I will not elaborate*

Anyway. And it's after the last sunday lunch gone wrong that JC just leaves before even touching his food and goes in the city. He is thinking a lot, maybe he is thinking of leaving the family, the business, or maybe he wants to start his own label, how much it would cost anyway?

And he finds himself looking at some microphones in a music shop - unaffiliated with the Lans, the owner is probably Mr. Yao or Mr. Ouyang.

THe owner is like, I can see you are pointing big puppy eyes at those mics, do you want to try them?

And JC, full of the whole "you are a failure,you will never be enough" says "Sure, I can try..."

And he sings like a rock kind of song, and y'all know that I am a Jiang "Angel Voice" Cheng truther.

NMJ happens to be in the shop because he needs a new amplificator or something and hears JC.

And he is in awe.

Who is this amazing singer and why has he not heard about him ever. That's the one I want for my band, he is perfect. And he introduces himself and JC is like "you liked that?!"

"Why yes it was perfect, come to my studio, meet my band give it a try".

And it takes a bit of convincing, Huaisang chips in, but JC discovers that his voice is perfect for Metal and joins NMJ's band.

Are his parents happy? Nope and they voice their disappointment, which just prompts JC to just pack his things and go.

Yanli and Wei Ying try their best to mellow things, they don't want JC to go, but JC is fed up.

He goes to NMJ's studio, explains the situation and NMJ and NMJ is like "New Family Member Acquired".

You can read this as MingCheng if you wish, I kind of like the paiting, but only if it's @felinesomnambulist or @bloody-bee-tea (sorry for the tags, you both do write amazing MingCheng fics).

I will probably come back on this because I am enjoying the idea, but I will elaborate once I have kicked my brain around a little.

Jinling: I'm not spoilt by Xiao shushu. He just buys me things.

I must buy things for A-ling. And A-Song too!!

Yanli: I see.

Ruhua grabs Jinling's hair stick and threw it on the floor.

Rusong: how did it snap in two?

Zixuan: he loves to spoil A-ling and A-song.

Mo xuanyu: Xuan gege, do you know how to change diapers?

Zixuan: c..change what?

Yanli: diapers, Zixuan.

Zixuan: ohhhhh. No A-Yu. I haven't changed one in my life.

The maids used to do it.

Xue yang: what a diva.

Yanli: so who's going to change the diapers, Zish?

Zixuan: and Huaisang is there.

He'll change their diapers.

When they're older, he'll be their babysitter but he has to undergo severe training.

Mo xuanyu: lol I agree. Where is he anyways?

Zixuan: gave him a vacation.

Because I want my twins to see beautiful things when they're born.

My babies are allergic to negative vibes.

Jiang cheng: *enters* I'm here! Sorry I'm late!

Yao: it took you long enough!!

Zixuan: *crying* Jiang cheng! Where were you!

Meng Shi: Jiang gui fei. What kind of conduct is this.

I'm very disappointed in you! You weren't aren't when my innocent little step son was giving birth.

You're married to two emperors. Act the part.

Jiang cheng: Tai hou and my emperor husbands. This wei wuxian was in lotus pier, and he used my sword~~

Zixuan: not in front the children!!!

Yao: oh my goodness!! How putrid!

Xue yang: wasn't bichen enough?

Mo xuanyu: *blocks Jinling and Rusong's ears*

Jiang cheng: that's not what I meant, guys!

He used my sword to cut lotus pods. Then the idiot dropped it in the muddy pond, so we had to fish out Sandu.

Meng Shi: and your sword is a mode of transportation.

Jiang cheng: yes! Taihou.

Meng Shi: why didn't you run or hire a caravan?

Jiang cheng: *facepalms*

Mo xuanyu: Jiang cheng, how could you.

Zixuan: what if I died during childbirth and my children became orphans.

And then my empire lost a super handsome and almost divine emperor with flawless skin.

Yao: and A-li would have sadly become a widow.

Then she would ask me to adopt the children.

Zixuan: it would be hard for them to fit in because they're not hulijings. A-li might become A-Yao's concubine, but she'll become more rich, and depressed cuz she misses me.

Do you know how it's like to be rich, depressed and a hot mess! And on top of that stressed?

Jiang cheng, do you see the ripple effect!

Jiang cheng: stop being dramatic. And look. I'm here.

Zixuan: I haven't had a drop of water or a grain of food, while waiting for you.

Yao: very vibrant and energetic. Quite mischievous too.

Xue yang: she's a big simp too.

Meng Shi: oh. Lovely. Lol, a simp as well Chengmei?

Xue yang: yea. She popped out of me.

I gave birth to her.

Yao: xue yang and Xiao xingchen are her guardians.

And they're all from Yi city.

Xue yang: A-Qing is broke by the way, Miss Meng, so I don't know if that might be a problem.

Meng shi: Songsong.

Rusong: *turns around* oh...hey Nainai.

Meng Shi: Meng Jin Rusong, the Hulijing Wangzi.

Rusong: (you know you're screwed when she or A-Die calls your whole name and title)

Meng shi: Dianxia *pinches cheeks* you didn't tell me about your gf.

Rusong: yea Nainai. I was going to tell you soon.

Meng Shi: baby Songsong, you're super cute. And I'm so happy for you.

A-Yao told me a lot about her.

Rusong: oh I see. The emperor of Hulijings and Kitsunes, Meng Yao Jin guangyao had let out my secret. *laughing*

Meng Shi: heehee yes. *kisses his dimple* secrets safe with me, Songsong.

Rusong: ok, Nainai. Today I'll spare Mr. Huangdi.

Meng Shi: but it's good that he told me. Because you wouldn't have told me.

Rusong: I would have, lol.

AU where, for all his many, many faults as a sect leader, a husband, and a man (and Madam Jin will be more than happy to list them), JGS is, genuinely, an excellent, responsible, supportive father.

Which sounds all fine and dandy, a redeeming factor! And in a lot of respects it is, but can you imagine how much worse JGY would be in an AU where his dad doesn't give him any reason to be disloyal?

Never kicks him down the stairs. Never insults him, lets him hold the baby (though he did fuss about proper holding). Brought Meng Yao in early and raised him himself, alongside JZX and later MXY. He may or may not know about Qin Su, but if he'd known - she's his baby daughter and he loves her.

And JGS talked to Meng Yao, encouraged his intelligence and cunning, whatever interests and phases he had (he also had a few sketches done of more embarrassing ones, but hey, a dad's gotta get his kicks somewhere).

And so it is a deeply loyal Jin Ziyao, formerly Meng Yao, who sees the seemingly abandoned and certainly very stressed-out WWX at the end of Sunshot, and suggests to his dad that there may be an opportunity there.

And/or a young Sect Leader Jiang. Gods knew JFM was uh. Not the greatest dad, in a lot of respects, and certainly not to Jiang Wanyin. JGS never did approve of it; he loves his kids, he can't imagine being like that. But hey, an opportunity!

Who better than an older, wiser sect leader, the same age as their own father, to offer an open door and a listening ear if they ever wanted to vent about the frustrations of a sect leader? He's been there, after all. Times were different but - he gets it. Running a sect is never easy, especially not when you just got the responsibility.

WWX at least won't have as much ego - or political sensitivities - tangled up in it, and JGS is a master at seeing through young people. WWX wants affection and stability, he wants affection without tiptoeing around an abusive stepmother and other people's egos and wariness about never outshining his brother.

And here's JGS, who's offering a listening ear and guidance and praise, or hell, just a nonjudgemental adult to hang out and drink with (the way JGS tells it, it's a miracle he didn't die in a bar brawl, which WWX was not expecting).

He gets WWX on his side concerningly quickly. And then LWJ, because he's weak for WWX, and frankly can you imagine what a bundle of daddy issues that boy is?

And while he's at it, LXC, both because daddy issues and LXC's thing for Meng Yao. And noted blind spots when it comes to him - how can a man who was such a good dad to his A-Yao be really so bad?

Within five years of the end of the Sunshot Campaign, there's a new Chief Cultivator, a greater tyrant than WRH ever was - respected and supported by his sons Jin Ziyao and Jin Zixuan, Sect Leader Jiang, the Twin Jades, and the Yiling Patriarch himself.

Do you have any idea how suspicious I was reading all of this? I kept waiting for the ‘and he’s actually evil’ twist. This is starting to sound like a fix it.

So lets have all his sons - biological, unofficially adopted, and in laws - grow up and realize that he raped Qin Su’s mother and how Mo Xuanyu’s mom was still a teenager when she became pregnant and why Jiang Yanli refuses to be alone with him and why the female servants in Koi Tower never stay long. They can all be disgusted both with him and themselves for once being so close to a rapist.

For additional angst only a few of them are disgusted with JGS and others still love and support him and ignore the fact that he’s abusing and assaulting women.
