Mobius' identity theory 10
On with my 20 days of pre-TVA Mobius’ identity theories event!
[Edit: previous - next | Masterpost]
Day 10: Mr. Tesseract
As you probably know, Mister Tesseract is one of Mobius' aliases in the Marvel comics. I have to warn you though that this post will have little to do with the comics and all to do with the fandom's version of a dark, twisted Mobius who got corrupted by the power of the Tesseract.
For our first two-digit theory number, let's ask the question: what if Mobius used to be a villan?
Did he search for the Tesseract, so entranced by its power that he risked slipping inside Asgard's most guarded vault - or whatever other place it was then stored in - to steal it, or did he stumble upon it by accident? Has he always had the intention to use it for ill purposes or has the power of the Tesseract overtaken him completely ? All options are possible. In the end, he became this evil, threatening figure who inspired fear through the galaxy.
Then he killed the wrong person, got access to the wrong weapon or took over the wrong kingdom and ended up being arrested by the TVA. Yet, he had many qualities that interested the Agency, so, instead of being pruned on the spot, he was brainwashed, "reconditioned", and used as an analyst.
Now, imaging the shock for Mobius when he finally learns about his past self! About his actions, his mistakes, the people he hurt! How could he see himself as anything but a villain?
Of course, that's not how Loki would see him...
And who better than Loki could understand what he's going through? The confusion, the regrets, the hunger for something seemingly out of your reach, the pull of the Tesseract itself. Mobius would have to understand that everything he said to Loki, every kind words and all that talking about change and becoming "whoever, whatever you wanna be, even someone good" can apply to himself as well... (with Loki by his side to help of course;)

Build me Up, Break me Down (Loki x female reader)
Read chapter 1 here
Chapter 2
Summary : You beg Loki to take you with him and he might just have a use of you.
Warning : mean asshole Loki, manipulation, reader does what she's asked to do (get with the program)
Tumblr media
You turned around to look at him and he had an evil smirk plastered on his face. You walked closer to the glass and tapped on it in a foolish attempt to open it.
"Lokiii what are you doing?" Your voice broke and vision blurred with your own tears. This was supposed to be good for you, you should have known you'd never get to live a life where you can feel normal for once
"You know what's astounding about this? I didn't even have to manipulate you, you were so easy to break, I can't believe that the can of tin actually hired someone as useless as you to keep an eye on me" he snickered and you started crying as you realized that he was free now and he was going to cause havoc again and you'll be jailed or god knows what they'll do with you once they find out
"Loki please don't do this, I ..I just ..just get me out at least" your broken voice didn't melt him whatsoever. He chuckled in response instead, you watched him stay trapped in there for a week so it was really satisfying for him to see you behind the cell for a change
"Tch tch are you expecting pity from me mortal? Don't you know who I am?" He smiled as he asked you a rhetorical question. You wanted to run, you wanted to run so far away.
"Let me tell you something that I know the mighty Avengers, the savior of the humanity would love to hear. Right now one of their own is bringing the tesseract and the sceptre back to me, as soon as I have it in my palms I'm going to escape and they won't be able to find me for a very long time" Tesseract? sceptre? You didn't understand half of the term he was using, you just wanted to run. You saw Happy entering the room and you screamed
"Mister Happy..sir please get me out, he tricked me and got out, call someone Please" you yelled at him but he seemed like a brain-dead zombie. He had a spear-like thing in his hand and a briefcase which he handed over to Loki.
"You're wasting your breath here mortal, I have enchanted this valuable horse of Stark and he brought me what I needed" Umm enchanted? Enchanted? He didn't even leave the cell or did he? What was he? Some type of sorcerer? What have you done?
"Lokiii please get me out.. I thought we were becoming friends" you cried out to him and he chuckled in response
"I do not make friends and even if I did it wouldn't be with someone as incompetent as you are, die for all I care" he smiled even though just saying that to someone made him feel horrible. He was doing the same thing he has been through all his life, maybe it's true, maybe one does become the product of their environment
"Lokkiiiii please..I'd die..I don't think I can take this please.. I can't deal with this. If you want to kill me just kill me but please don't leave me here like this, I won't be able to handle all this please I'm begging you just take me with you and kill me, I won't be a problem I promise" you bent down on your knees and begged to him like you have done previously in a different situation. He heard your child like sobs but continued to walk away, he can't have another being following him around, it would only risk his mission
"Please lokiii.. I only did what they asked me to, I didn't keep you in the cell, I just did what they asked me to" he sighed as he heard that and stormed towards you. Then he punched the glass walls of the cell in frustration.
"You can't shut up can you?" He typed the code in and as soon as the cell opened you ran outside and he grabbed your arms painfully
"You listen to me, if you even dare and try to run away or play smart, I'll make every cell in your body dissipate and I'll make sure you feel all that pain. One wrong step and you'll regret this moment when you begged me to take you along with me, you will regret ever being born, am I being clear?" As if you don't already do. You nodded your head and he went down on his knees to open the briefcase, your eyes almost got blinded by the cube inside. What the hell was that? Now. He made the spear disappear and asked you to keep your hands on the cube
"It's not going to burn right?" you asked him and you were with his signature asshole look
"Fine stay here" you quickly bent down and held the cube and you don't remember anything after that. You woke up to him trying to wake you up and you gasped as if you couldn't even breathe
"What was that?" You sat up as you asked him that, you were both in some sort of alleyway and you hated alleys.
"Shut Up and follow me now" you got up and quickly followed him, so he was just going to walk around New York City in his Asgardian clothes? Drawing all that attention on him?
"So ummm not to interrupt your fashion walk but I think with that attire you're literally asking to get caught" he quickly grabbed your neck in his hand and gave it a little squeeze
"Who do you think I am? I'm the trickster god, didn't you hear?" You tried to slap his hand away because that would work right and he let go when he saw your skin turning blue. You gasped for breath as you felt the burning in your throat and chest
"I'm sorry " you mumbled meekly and he rolled his eyes. So it is a universal gesture? He waved his hand and you saw the green shimmer forming around you both then he started walking again, as you stepped out of the alley is when you realized you were not in New York, in fact you didn't think you were in USA
"We are not in the USA are we? Unless it's chinatown?" He glared at you and you looked away quickly
"Osaka, where is that?" He asked you and your eyes widened again
"How did we get to Japan?" You asked him as you both continued to walk god knows where
"Through Tesseract" you assumed the cube was named Tesseract. You both ended up in a hotel and he grabbed your arms as he took you inside, the receptionist spoke in Japanese and you didn't understand a word of it. But he did and he got a room where you two can hide probably
Once you got inside the room you screamed as you looked at yourself in the mirror, you looked different, you looked like another person, and so did he when you saw him in the mirror.
"Why..do..I umm why am I..who's that?"
"I don't know some random midgardian I saw while I was destroying your planet" he got rid of the illusion and he was back in his attire. Pompous ass.
"But I didn't notice the difference out there, why didn't I see you differently?" You asked him confused and he sighed
" I didn't cast that illusion for you, I did it for other mortals so we won't get recognised, you're a fugitive now, congratulations" he spoke in a tone that made you feel as if your mere presence was annoying him
"So umm what is your plan"
"Shut up alright? I don't want to hear a word coming out of your mouth. I won't hesitate to use the tesseract and send you off to another dimension" your eyes widened at the threat and you sat down on the couch. You wondered how you two were going to sleep, you were going to say something but he looked at you, and you shut your mouth. After a while he stopped pacing and waved his fingers again, he changed his clothes and now was in a dark gray tunic kind of thing and a pair of pants. You raised your hand up as if asking for permission to speak and he rolled his eyes
"What?"
"Umm I'm hungry, I didn't have breakfast" or Lunch. You teared up and his eyes softened for a second the he stood up and called the room service to order food, you stayed quiet and didn't say a word, as soon as the food got delivered you gobbled it down as if you haven't had a meal in ages.
"Thank you, you want to eat?" You asked him and he shook his head then he laid down on the bed. You had no idea what he intended to do or what was his plan and you felt scared to ask him. You didn't want him to destroy every cell in your body after all.
"So I take the couch?"
"Yes do not expect me to be a gentleman, that couch is too small for my frame, be grateful I took you along and you're getting to sleep on this couch or I'm pretty sure you'd be in a cell right now getting interrogated by those folks in costume if it wasn't for me"
"You have a costume too" you mumbled meekly and he glared at you
"It's pure asgardian leather and I'm a god you dull creature, keep your mouth shut until I give you permission"
He told you strictly and you nodded as your eyes teared up. You slept on the couch, wondering what you have gotten yourself into and what he was going to do with you.
Loki laid down on the bed , it has enough room to fit two bodies but there's no way he was going to share the space with a mortal. At first he was hesitant to bring you along with him but now after giving it much thought he had realized that he could use a fragile mortal for his mission.
Next day when you woke up, you found him sitting on the bed with the cube thingy and he was just staring at it.
"Ummm good morning" you mumbled as you got up but he didn't respond
"I need clothes and stuff"
"You have clothes" he responded and you looked at him confused
"I can't wear this everyday" he rolled his eyes and you both went out to buy some clothes. You figured that he must have cast the illusion again, it was really scary that he could do that but then he was an alien god
"So what's midgard?" You asked him as he kept using that term
"What have I told you about keeping that hole shut until I permit you to speak? Do you have a death wish?" He asked you and you shook your head. He told you to get everything you'd need and then he took you back, you ran straight for the bathroom.
You thought about the last week and how sweet he was to you, you should have known that he was playing you, why would someone like him even be interested in you? After you came out all showered and dressed up, he went inside and slammed the door shut behind him. You don't know why you thought he wouldn't need to use the bathroom, being an alien and all.
"Don't even think of running" you gasped as you heard his voice in your head. He could do this too? You sighed and sat down on the couch and turned the tv on since he destroyed your phone, you stopped on an American news channel and the news shocked you to say the least.
"Y/n Y/l/n , an accomplice of the asgardian terrorist Loki is now missing after freeing him from the highly secured Stark's tower" you didn't hear anything after that. You were on the news, your face was plastered on an international news channel, not that you had any life before but now it was definitely over, either you'd die by his hands or spend your whole life in jail.
"Accomplice? You mortals are so pathetic, as if a god would need your help" your eyes teared up as you heard him. Why was he so cruel to you? He tricked you and not vice versa.
He walked over to you and grabbed your chin with his fingers and made you look up at him
"Are you betrothed to someone?" He asked you and you didn't understand what he meant
"You mean like engaged?"
"Yes, answer the question"
"Nooo why" you asked him confused and then his action confused you even more.
He kissed you.

Part One | Part Two | Part Three | Part Four
Tumblr media
The approach towards the citadel took longer than any of them wanted to think about. You had Haven cuddled into your arms as she was feeling drowsy from the long day with barely any sleep. Loki’s face was hardened and stoic as he led the way towards the front doors of the citadel, Lævateinn clasped in his hand from when Kid had gifted him the mighty sword.
The doors were massive and for a moment, you just stared at them in shock before turning to Loki with a heavy breath. “Any plans?” you asked with a voice barely above a whisper.
Loki shook his head and exhaled sadly, “Sylvie always came up with the plans.”
“Sylvie is you, you daft sod,” you growled before your hand gleamed a poisoned green and you pushed the door open, hearing it creak and groan as it opened wide.
The child’s grip around your neck got tighter as you entered the citadel and you glanced around, the hairs on your arms raising as you continued your journey forward into the darkened entrance hall.
The silence was abruptly interrupted by Miss Minutes popping out of nowhere and yelling, “hey, y’all!”
In an instant, a dagger was in your hand and Lævateinn was raised in Loki’s hand towards the animated clock. You scowled and glared at the clock with clear disdain, “you! Was it you all along?!”
“Oh, no!” the clock laughed before her expression hardened and she clasped her hands together, “welcome to the Citadel at the End of Time! Congratulations. Y’all had an awfully long journey to get here!”
Haven flinched and turned her head to glare at the clock, “indeed, I had to watch my mother be murdered in front of me to get me here,” she snarled, her hand gripping the dagger that her Teen self had handed her.
Still, Miss Minutes pursued without acknowledging Haven, “he’s impressed.”
You glared at the clock for her audacity to ignore your daughter and you held her closer before sneering, “who’s impressed?”
“He Who Remains,” Miss Minutes answered cryptically, a joyful grin on her clock face.
Loki took a deep breath, looking between you and Haven before looking back at Miss Minutes, “and who is he?”
“He created all and he controls all,” Miss Minutes answered as if that solved their question, she seemed proud of herself for her answer, she looked up to the man behind the terror everyone had to experience, “at the end, it is only He Who Remains. And he wants to offer you a deal. He’s been making a few creative adjustments and he’s worked it out so we can reinsert all three of y’all back into the Timeline in a way that won’t disrupt things.”
You and Loki shared a glance before managing to whisper out hoarsely, “won’t disrupt things?”
“Mmm-hmm!” Miss Minutes grinned, walking towards you as you both walked backwards with her still in your sight, “the TVA can keep doin’ it’s vital work and y’all can live the lives you’ve always wanted.”
Loki rolled his eyes and raised a brow, “and what have we always wanted?”
“Now don’t play coy with me, Mister,” Miss Minutes grinned, “you know how you got into this mess.”
Loki froze and recalled how he had stolen the Tesseract after the Avengers had travelled through time to stop Thanos, how he had so purely wanted to get away from facing Odin so soon after his suicide that he needed an out and the Tesseract was right there. Still, he kept his voice levelled as he ground out, “what?”
Miss Minutes giggled and shrugged, “the Battle of New York, silly. You versus those self-righteous Avengers. How would you like to win?”
Win? Loki’s brow creased as he stared at the clock. He didn’t want to go back there, his life wasn’t worth living if you and Haven weren’t there to live with him. Neither of you existed in the Timeline he was from! Why would he want to win when he knew that he wouldn’t be happy? Additionally, winning wouldn’t matter when Thanos came for his payment. He would die just the same as his Timeline self as thanks for his “service”.
“But not just there,” Miss Minutes grinned, seeing the torment in Loki’s eye, keeping her focus primarily on the weakened Variant, “you can kill Thanos. You want the Infinity Gauntlet? Yours. Throne of Asgard? Not a problem.”
Loki noticed how she never once took you into account or Haven, offering him the perfect life. He didn’t want the throne, he didn’t want the Gauntlet, he didn’t need Thanos dead, he only wanted and needed a life with you and Haven in it.
“And what about you, missy?” Miss Minutes turned her attention to you and you froze, raising your sword and steeling your expression, “all those years of searchin’. Desperate. Alone. Corrupted. How would you like to wake up tomorrow with just a lifetime of happy memories, a timeline where Loki survived and the Dark Hold never consumed ya?”
Your mind was consumed by the possibility. Waking up tomorrow with the Loki you loved, his warm smile greeting you, his soft hand cupping your cheek as he whispered a delicate ‘good morning’ before getting ready for the day. You couldn’t go back, that wasn’t your life anymore, you didn’t deserve it.
“And you,” Miss Minutes turned her attention to Haven, who had shifted their form into their male form and had slid out of your arms to point his dagger at the freaky clock, “how would you like to go back to your Timeline and warn ya parents before the break in ever happened?”
“It’s fiction,” Haven snarled, his eyes glaring daggers at the clock as his grip tightened around the dagger, “why would someone who stole away our lives so easily just give it back to us?”
Loki inhaled sharply before glaring at Miss Minutes, “because he wants us out of the way, living blissfully and not fighting against him so his control over everyone’s will can continue. No, we write our own destiny now.”
Miss Minutes smirked and cooed at him, “aww, sure you do. Good luck with that.”
Haven sighed when Miss Minutes disappeared and she lowered her dagger before continuing to walk into the building with her parents, “can we burn the clock’s systems first? I hate her.”
You scoffed and shuddered as you remembered Miss Minutes’s cold tone at the end, “once all of this is over, Haven, you have my full permission.”
Loki scowled as he stared straight ahead but his expression softened minutely when Haven slipped his hand into Loki’s free one. Still, one thing pressed on his mind, “He Who Remains.”
You rolled your eyes and smirked as you kept walking, “not for much longer.”
You reached a free room that had the familiar statues of the TimeKeepers but one statue was destroyed, piquing your interest as you made it further into the room. You watched as Loki walked over to one of the statues and collected a pile of dust with two fingers and you had to steel yourself from imagining those fingers delving between your thighs and giving you the relief you had craved for years.
“Are we sure he’s even still alive?” Loki asked, oblivious to the way your eyes only trailed his fingers and not his face.
Before you could even answer, a door began to click open and all three of you brandished your weapons in preparation for a fight. The door revealed a man sat on a sofa, apple in hand and a leisured expression on his face. You glared at him while Loki squeezed Haven’s hand to comfort him.
The man stood from the chair and approached, studying them with a grin before whispering, “this is wild,” and chuckling, “the two of you… soulmates. I mean, it’s a little unorthodox, you two are usually torn apart in some way. But… wow! Wild.”
None of you moved as you watched the man bite into the apple but you finally gathered your courage to speak out, “He Who Remains?”
The man quite rudely continued to eat while also beginning to speak, “He Who Remains. She still calls me that? Creepy, right? But… I like it.”
“Of course you do,” Haven rolled his eyes, staying close to Loki with his brow furrowed and a determined look on his face.
“And you,” the man smirked as he turned to him, watching him freeze but still hold his ground, “you were a difficult one to create, I have to admit. Haven Lokidottir, Y/N and Loki were so eager to have you, such wonderful parents. Unfortunately, that goes against everything that I created so I had to give you a tragic end. By killing Loki on the Timeline, you could never be born.”
Haven lunged forward but Loki grabbed his wrist and shook his head, “don’t.”
As if expecting him to back down, He Who Remains watched Haven comply and stand beside Loki before he began to speak again, “come on. Come on, let’s talk in my office.”
You all followed the TimeKeeper into the elevator and had your weapons to his back to show that there was no trust in this situation. You held your sword closer, your mind whirring with the knowledge that this man in front of you made you go through all of your torment just because you weren’t allowed to be with Loki. You were never allowed to have Haven, never allowed to be yourself.
“Not what you were expecting, hmm?” He Who Remains asked, trying his best to break the tension in the elevator.
Loki breathed heavily beside you and you turned to glare at him as he whispered, “you’re just… a man.”
He Who Remains nodded and bit into his apple again before answering, “mm. Flesh and blood. Don’t tell me I’m a disappointment.”
“No,” you sneered, rage bubbling in your veins as you remembered all the lives you took for your chance to get Loki back, “just easier to kill.”
You drew your blade back and began to swing it towards the man before he disappeared and reappeared behind you and you seethed with rage when you heard him chuckle. Loki took his place beside you and you both turned to He Who Remains before he disappeared and you sensed him behind you so you swung again but he was gone. You both glanced up at the ceiling as a bang was heard before the door began to open again with the TimeKeeper smirking at you as it did.
“Come on in,” the man smirked before turning and walking further into the room. He began pouring tea for the four of you and while his back was turned, the three of you began to triangulate to attack. Haven took the middle while you took the right and Loki went left, all of your weapons held aloft. “Please,” the man said, gesturing to the three seats waiting, uncaring of the strategy formation you had begun, “take a seat.”
The man placed down the cups of tea at the sides of the chairs, looking all three of you as he did. When he placed the first one down, he smiled at Loki and hummed, “Loki”. When he placed down the middle, he grinned at Haven and watched him bristle with hatred, “Haven”. Then he set the third cup down and smiled at you, “Y/N.”
You and Loki shared a look before heading towards the chairs and taking your places on the outside ones while Haven sat in the middle, shielded by your swords held in the air by Loki’s seiðr.
Moments of silence passed before the man spoke up again, “been a long journey for you, hasn’t it? Lot of running, lot of pain. And you…” he glanced at Loki with a smile, “you’re a flea on the back of a dragon. In for one hell of a ride. But you did manage to hang on. Mmm-hmm, I guess that counts for something.”
“I’m not sure you understand the situation,” Loki growled, Haven sitting higher in his seat and holding his head high in defiance, “you’ve lost. We found you.”
“Duh,” the man smirked casually, “of course you did.”
You stood from your seat in an instant, your sword slapping into your palm as you swung it at He Who Remains again only for him to disappear and reappear behind his chair. “Whoa,” he grinned, tilting his head at you, “a swing and a miss,” he laughed and looked at the three of you with a delighted smile, “so, we’re still doing that, hmm? Let’s get all of this out of the way.”
You watched as the man pulled out a file from under the desk and placed it on the desk, flipping through the pages before grinning and picking up two pages, “here we go.”
“You can’t kill me because I already know what’s going to happen,” he grinned and placed the pages on the desk, watching the three of you read the pages, the script.
Loki chuckled hollowly, “it’s a parlour trick,” he sneered.
Animatedly, He Who Remains gestured to Loki and shrugged, “okay. Don’t you wonder how I’m able to get out of the way just before you kill me?”
“No,” you sneered, glaring at the man and pointing to the TemPad attached to his wrist, “it’s because of that little TemPad you have there.”
“Right,” He Who Remains whispered, keeping eye contact with you as he tilted his head, “but how do I already have it loaded up with everything I need to know to keep from being killed by you two? It’s easy. I know it all. And I’ve seen it all.”
The man sat back in his seat but the three of you remained on your feet, your hand tightening your grip on your sword as Loki glared at the man and Haven stared down at the script in his hands, trembling at the realisation that everything that happened to him was scripted.
“Everything that happened in the Void, I saw. All the stuff the TVA didn’t know about, I knew. All the scheming, all the… talking,” the man smirked at Loki as he leaned forward at his desk, “that little moment on the hill you shared with Sylvie when everyone was asleep. Quite sentimental, very touching stuff, by the way.”
You turned your head to glare at Loki and saw that he looked helpless and disappointed in himself but you knew it was just a front. Your trust in the God fractured even more, this God was not your Loki. “No,” you whispered, turning your attention back to the TimeKeeper, “no, we broke out of your little game. That’s how we got here.”
“No. Wrong,” the man grinned, meeting your eyes, “especially in yours and Haven’s case. You were only allowed to make it this far to kill off Sylvie, to ruin Loki completely. This is the only time you two can be together, exist with your daughter together, when there is no love between you.
Your expression faltered as you stared at the man before you. So, you were right, Loki didn’t love you. He barely knew you. Why were you with him? Why did you try for a second chance?
“Every step you took to get here, Ragnarok, the Void, I paved the road. You,” he gestured between the three of you, “you just walked down it.”
The three of you were taken aback by the revelation and Loki turned to look at you, to watch your expression crumble and he wished to comfort you but he knew it would be meaningless. Sure, he had tried to convince himself to incorporate you into your glorious purpose but in the end, only Haven applied. He held no love for you.
He Who Remains then picked up more pieces of paper and began to speak again, “and I have the rest right here. Everything that’s uh… that’s going to happen. There’s only one way this can go.”
Loki stared at the newfound papers in shock, frowning as Haven took a step back and shook his head before snarling at the TimeKeeper, “then why are we here?”
“Oh, come on,” He Who Remains sighed, glancing down at the child in front of him and he admired how such a small frame could be so angry, “you know you can’t get to the end until you’ve been changed by the journey. This stuff, it needs to happen. To get us all in the right mindset to finish the quest.”
“Right,” Loki drawled, not believing the story as he stared down at the papers.
“Quest?” Haven snarled, glaring at the man before him, his small body shaking with anger as he glared at the TimeKeeper, “so you murdering my mother before my eyes was the beginning of my quest?! Murdering my father before he could warn us of the attack so I could be manipulated into your… your… pawn!”
He Who Remains sighed as he glared at Haven, “news flash, kiddo, you weren’t supposed to exist in the first place. Your dad and your mum were never meant to meet. In any timeline. But I couldn’t weed all of them out. You are not meant to exist.”
“So it’s all a game?” Loki asked, pulling Haven out of the conversation that he knew would only lead to him lashing out, “it’s all… a manipulation.”
“Interesting that your head would go to that,” the man mused nonchalantly before turning his attention to you, “Y/N, you think you can trust this guy?”
Loki turned his head towards you and scoffed as he whispered, “don’t listen to him.”
“Don’t listen to him,” the TimeKeeper mocked before laughing, “do you think you’re even capable of trusting anyone at all? Haven? What about you?”
Now back to her female form, Haven scowled and glanced between Loki, the Loki that had yelled at her, that had abandoned her for the love of another version of himself. But then, there was you. You, in the small amount of time knowing her, had comforted her, protected her, reassured her and assisted her. Haven could trust you but not Loki.
Loki saw the moment Haven’s mind was set and his heart shattered, unbelieving of the fact that Haven didn’t trust him. Glancing at you, he saw the same distrust in your eyes. ‘You are alone and you always will be’ rang Sif’s voice through his mind as he sighed.
Still, you sat down with Haven on your lap and Loki sat as well, his eyes never leaving He Who Remains now that he knew his family didn’t trust him. God of Outcasts indeed.
“I understand your moral objections to what the TVA does,” the man was saying, perched on his desk as he addressed the three of you, “and my methods are deceptive. But the mission, it never was. Without me, without the TVA… everything burns.”
Loki glared at the man and saw a flicker of something, minute but there and he picked up on it, “then what are you so afraid of?”
He Who Remains hesitated for a long while, thinking of what was asked of him and working out an answer. The answer was simple; “me.”
You scowled at the man and tilted your head, feeling Haven cuddle into you, burying her face away from the man keenly observing you. “And just who are you?” you growled at the man, malice laced into your tone as you refused to glance sideways at Loki.
“Oh, I’ve been dubbed many names by many people,” the man began with a grin, shrugging as if that fact was normal, “a ruler, a conqueror. He Who Remains. A jerk. But it’s… it’s not as simple as a name.”
You watched as he fiddled with his TemPad before bringing forth some sand to tell his story, his explanation as to why he did the things that he did. The reason for why you had to suffer alone and why Haven had to suffer watching her version of you die in front of her at just a young age. Your daughter had to grow, had to adapt so quickly, she killed the burglars for Norns sake! That kind of trauma hardens someone’s perception on life, makes them paranoid. You hated this man for bringing this upon your daughter.
You listened as he explained how his variants began to fight for supremacy, how they wanted to rule timelines and keep it all to themselves. That’s when you knew, that’s why he created the TVA, to make sure that no more variants of him are born to take his claim to the Sacred Timeline.
Haven was listening too, hearing how the variants fought each other and she was suddenly reminded of all the Loki’s that battled for the sanctuary underneath the ground away from Alioth. How President wanted to rule, how Boastful was so eager to take the throne that he betrayed and was betrayed, how Classic was so tired that he didn’t wish to fight against the horde of Loki’s. Some variants were very confusing.
He Who Remains seemed to have finished before he began to laugh and shake his head, “no, no. Nope, this is where we diverge from the dogma. That first variant encountered a creature created from all the tears in reality, capable of consuming time and space itself. A creature you both know.”
Loki sighed and shook his head, realising that the monster that was in the Void was the monster that He Who Remains was referencing, “Alioth.”
“Bingo,” the man grinned, staring down at the sand that was explaining the story, “I harnessed the beast’s power and began experimenting on it. I weaponised Alioth and I ended… I ended the Multiversal War! Once I isolated our timeline, all I had to do was manage the flow of time and prevent any further branches. Hence, the TVA! Hence, the TimeKeepers and a highly efficient bureaucracy.”
You watched with growing anger as the man began to climb on top of his desk, trying to prove to you and Loki that he was higher than the both of you. “Hence ages… and ages of cosmic harmony!” the conqueror yelled, a proud smile on his face, “Hence… you’re welcome.”
Loki stared up at the man, unable to comprehend what he had just heard, unable to feel anything but growing dread at the prospect of another such war. This man had to be kept alive if it meant that they wouldn’t be fighting such a devastating war.
Haven, however, was seething in her place on your lap as she glared up at the man who had single-handedly destroyed her life. She hadn’t gotten to say goodbye to her daddy, she could still remember the cold expression on your face as you ordered her to run away. The gunshot still rang in her ears if she thought about it. This man needed to die for the way he treated her.
You were fuming as well. This man dictated your life, ruined your chances at ever being happy with Haven and Loki and yet here he was, grinning and laughing as if there was nothing wrong in the Nine Realms!
“You came here to kill the devil, right?” the man grinned, looking between the three of you, “well, guess what? I keep you safe. And if you think I’m evil, well, just wait ‘till you meet my variants.”
Loki took a deep breath and turned to look at you in shock, his variants could be millions of times worse! He needed time to talk to you about this, time to strategise and consider the next steps but he knew that he wouldn’t get the opportunity because the man already knew if he was to say it aloud.
He Who Remains then leaned back and shrugged, “and that’s the gambit. Stifling order or cataclysmic chaos. You may hate the dictator but something far worse than them is going to fill that void if you dispose of them. I’ve lived a million lifetimes.”
You shook your head in disbelief, the urge to behead the men increasing with every beat of your heart, every throb of your poisoned seiðr and you glared over at Loki and he met your eyes solemnly, the itch inside you to kill getting worse and worse the more the dictator talked.
“I’ve gone through every scenario,” the man continued, a gleam in his eye as his eyes flitted over to you as if he knew your torment, “This is the only way! The TVA, it works.”
You tilted your head and sneered, “or you’re a liar.”
The TimeKeeper leaned his head on his hand and smiled sweetly over at you, nodding enthusiastically before looking between the three of you, “or I’m a liar,” he agreed with a grin.
“So you just… continue to prune innocent timelines?” Loki asked, his brow raised with a calculating look on his face as if he was trying to find the reason behind the TimeKeeper’s actions, why they couldn’t have free will, “Timelines such as Haven’s, where she did nothing wrong.”
The TimeKeeper hummed and looked between you and Loki before pointing at the both of you, “you two would.”
That got the attention of both of you and Haven leaned back in her seat, sensing that this wasn’t her battle just yet.
“There two options!” the man carried on enthusiastically, “one… you kill me and destroy all of this, so you don’t have just one devil, you have an infinite amount. Or… You two. You two run the thing.”
“You’re lying,” Loki answered immediately, scowling at the man sat before him as his mind betrayed him into thinking about the possibilities, how he could settle down with you and Haven and keep the timeline safe. But he would have no place on the timeline, not anymore. “Why would you give up control?” he asked, his voice alarmingly calm.
The TimeKeeper sighed and looked away from the God. “Buddy…” he began, exhaling through his nose, “I’m tired. And I’m older. I’m older than I look. This game is for the young, for the hungry. I’ve gone through a lot of scenarios trying to find the right person to take this spot. It turns out that person comes in two,” he sighed before looking between you and Loki, “but it’s definitely you two.”
You and Loki turned your heads to look at each other again. You didn’t buy this bullshit but with the look in Loki’s eyes, he did believe this monster who had ripped Haven’s life away from her, the man who had made you suffer for so long without him.
“So, no more lies,” the man continued with a smile, “you kill me and the Sacred Timeline is completely exposed. Multiversal war. Or you take over and return to the TVA as their benevolent rulers. Tell the workforce who they are and what they work for!”
You scrunched your nose in distaste as you gazed at the dictator before you. Why would you lessen yourself to his level, follow his work and be a dictator yourself? “You treated real people’s lives like some kind of game,” you sneered.
The man sighed and shook his head, “It’s not personal, it’s practical.”
“It was personal to me,” you countered, outraged at his reasoning.
The man groaned and glared at you, rolling his eyes, “grow up!! Grow up, Y/N! Murderer! Hypocrite! We’re all villains here! We’ve all done terrible, horrific things,” you watched Loki bow his head out of the corner of your eye when the dictator pointed to him but that itch inside you worsened enough that you began to not care, “but now, we, you… have a chance to do them for a good reason.”
You tensed as you glared at the man before you, your magic practically begging to be released on the man that had just yelled at you, the man that had stolen your daughter’s life away, the man that had allowed you to corrupt yourself.
He didn’t say anything else, though. A confused expression fell over his face as he went silent, thunder rumbling in the background as the confused expression fell into shock as he whispered, “we just crossed… the threshold…”
Your breath hitched, something inside you telling you that your equal, the Scarlet Witch, had just awoken. You looked over at Loki and saw him looking confused. The itch in your fingers was nigh on painful now as your seiðr demanded to unite with your equal.
“So, I fibbed,” the man admitted, his tone panicked as he grinned nervously, looking around and even picking up a pencil and dropping it as if he didn’t know it would fall, “I fibbed earlier when I said I know how everything’s going to go. I… I know… I knew… everything up to a certain point and that point was about… 8… 9… 10 seconds ago?”
Your eyes widened as you looked behind the man to the swirling timeline through the window, it was beginning to branch! Did you need to kill him after all if free will has already been restored?
“And now I have no idea… no idea about how this is going to go,” he looked around with a wide grin, as if he was a child again, “I’m being candid.”
You glanced over to Loki and saw him death glaring the TimeKeeper and oh did that glare make wetness form in between your thighs. He’d used that glare before when you were being a brat and didn’t let him fuck you. To see it aimed at the TimeKeeper made you almost jealous.
“So that’s it?” the God asked darkly, his voice rumbling through his chest in the way that quickened your heart rate. “That’s it? This is what happens at the end of time? And now you’re just going to sit there with all that freedom and… let us decide your fate?”
The man shrugged and eagerly responded, “yes! Yes! Yes! What’s the worst that can happen? You either… take over and my life’s work continues or you plunge a blade in my chest and an infinite amount of me start another Multiversal War. And I just… end up right back here anyways. Reincarnation, baby.”
You shook your head with a sinister smile on your face, the seiðr in your core bubbling just beneath the surface, begging to be released. “No, it’s just another lie,” you sneered at him, “another manipulation.”
Your hand flexed around your sword and Haven looked up at Loki in horror, realisation hitting the child that you were going to do something that you would severely regret. “Dad,” the girl whispered, her head whipping around to look at you desperately, “mum… don’t.”
“Oh,” the Keeper grinned as he shook his head, looking you in the eye, “no lie. No manipulation.”
The man took off his bracelet-TemPad and stared down at it before setting it onto the table, “I love this,” he whispered, looking up at the three of you, “I love… all this honesty. Feels like a fresh start.”
Your restraint broke and you lunged out of your chair quickly, your sword aloft as you tried to get to the TimeKeeper but you were stopped by Loki catching your arm and shaking his head. The God turned to his daughter and whispered, “hide. This isn’t your fight.”
 You growled and turned around, your sword to his chest as you pushed him backwards, “what are you doing?!”
“Sylvie, hang on a moment,” Loki said without thinking, looking into your eyes pleadingly, “let’s just talk about this…”
“Even now, you still think of her!” you screamed, pushing him away with a burst of magic that sent him falling backwards into a bookshelf. You scoffed and slowly made your way back to the TimeKeeper but you were stopped by Loki’s magic holding you back.
You snarled, turning around and swinging your sword at him, watching the heartbreak on his face as he brought his sword up to meet yours quickly. You pulled him out of your way but he slid through your arms and stood between you and the TimeKeeper.
“What if he’s telling the truth, Y/N?” Loki asked, trying to get you to listen but that itch just urged you to kill.
You huffed and rolled your eyes, squaring your shoulders as you glared at the man that was your husband once, “so what?”
Loki huffed and gently stepped towards you, hoping to get through to you if he just stayed calm, “I believe him.”
“Believe what?!” you yelled, tears forming in your eyes, “that we can’t have free will because millions of him will form and doom us all?! Bullshit, Loki! He’s a liar!”
“So am I!” Loki countered, his hand on his chest as he never dropped eye contact, taking another step towards you with a frown, “and I don’t think he was lying. Not about that. Insane? Yes. But maybe he was telling the truth?”
“Better hurry!” the TimeKeeper yelled helpfully behind Loki, making your blood boil, “the timeline is already branching!”
You huffed and glared up at Loki, your grip on the sword tightening as you glared at him, “so what are you suggesting?”
“That we think about it!” Loki whispered to you, reaching out to you with a frown, as if he was trying to tame a wild animal that was cornered.
“And what precisely is there to think about?!” you screamed, your heart hammering against your ribs as you wanted nothing more than to kill the man who stole yours and your daughter’s lives, “Loki! He ruined my life! He ruined Haven’s life! How can you try to side with him?!”
“Weren’t you listening to what he was saying?” Loki whispered, gesturing behind him to the TimeKeeper, that’s the gambit. Remove the dictator and who fills the void?”
Realisation swept through you as you stared at the God, a cunning smile on your lips as you tilted your head, “ah. You want the throne?”
“No, that’s not it. No,” Loki shook his head, his heart breaking at the fact that you had just assumed such a thing of him. You, of all people, should know that he never wanted the throne! He only wanted to be loved and love in return!
“I don’t believe you,” you sneered, taking a step closer to him as a tear dripped down your cheek, “the God of Lies trying to tell the truth? It’s as ridiculous as it sounds!”
“Y/N the universe is in the balance!” Loki pleaded, his brows furrowing as he wondered just how corrupted you were after so long with the DarkHold, “everything we know to be true. Everything. I know the TVA has hurt all three of us but what if by taking him out, we risk unleashing something even worse? All I’m suggesting is that we take a moment to think about it. I promise you from my heart that this isn’t about a throne.”
You shook your head with a sad smile on your face as you stared at him. He looked so desperate for you to believe him but just as the TimeKeeper had said earlier, you couldn’t trust him. He was lying to you and you knew it. “What was I thinking trusting you?” you sneered, glaring at the man, “has this whole thing been a con?”
“Really? That’s what you think of me after all this time?” Loki whispered, tears brimming in his eyes as he stared at you, “sure. Why not? Evil Loki’s master plan comes together. Well, you never trusted me, did you? What was the point? Can’t you see? This is bigger than our experience!”
You sighed sadly and shook your head as half of you wanted to run into his arms and cuddle him close, allow him to cry and calm down in your warmth. The other half wanted to kill him because he wasn’t seeing this in the obvious way. “Why aren’t we seeing this the same way?”
“Because you can’t trust,” Loki whispered with a frown as he shrugged, “and I can’t be trusted.”
You nodded and readied your sword and your seiðr as you glared at him, “then i guess we’re in a pickle.”
Realisation dawned on Loki’s face as he realised what you were plotting and he shook his head, “Y/N, wait. Wait.”
You snarled and the battle commenced. You had known Loki for so long in your timeline, had trained with him, fought beside him and became one in your minds that you knew his strategies and fought them head on. The clash of swords echoed throughout the room, the scared little sobs of your daughter hidden behind a chair next to the TimeKeeper not even registering in your mind.
Your swords clanged together as you fought throughout the office, sparks of seiðr flying everywhere as you matched each other’s skills. You pushed him away with your seiðr and began to make your way back to the TimeKeeper but Loki ran in front of you and countered your blow, pushing you backwards and yelling “maybe he’s lying! Maybe he’s not! The cost of getting this wrong is too great!”
“Fine,” you growled, pushing your sword to his throat and pulling his to yours, watching the desperation on his face that you saw as desperation for him to kill you not to reason with you, “do it! Kill me! Take your throne!”
“No…” Loki whispered brokenly before you began the war again, battling him out before you slipped to the floor and spun on your hand, trying to kick him but he somersaulted over you and stood from the floor with a flip of his hair before beginning to approach you.
Having enough of wasting time, you threw a well-timed blast of seiðr to knock him to the floor then you took the swing for the Keeper’s head. Everything moved in slow motion for a while before a glow of seiðr appeared in front of you and Haven stopped your blade with her dagger.
“Mum!” she screamed, tears flowing down her cheeks quickly as she pushed back against your instinct to just push forward, “mum stop! Doing this will not get us anywhere! I am in the same boat as you, I hate this man but this circle has to stop! This violence!”
You snarled as you glared at your daughter, barely hearing her words over the thundering of blood in your ears, “so what do you plan to do with the throne, Haven!? What is your ‘glorious purpose’!?”
“It’s you! It’s you and dad!” she sobbed, her innocent emerald eyes shimmering with agony at the accusation you just threw at her, “I watched you die because he needed me here. You got corrupted because you needed to be here! Dad took the Tesseract because he needed to be here. Take the offer, mum! Then we can go home!”
You stared at the girl before lowering your blade and sighing, making your sword disappear in a glow of green before you opened your arms for her and smiled when the girl jumped into your arms and sobbed into your neck. Turning your face to the TimeKeeper, you sighed and hung your head, “we’ll take your offer, but we will be living on the Timeline.”
He Who Remains nodded, turning his head to look at the timeline before holding his hands out to you and Loki, who was now stood by your side. Timidly, you and the God of Mischief shook the man’s hand and closed your eyes at the overwhelming power that transferred into your veins and cores. The old TimeKeeper leaned back in his chair and whispered, “good choice,” before disappearing into dust.
Breathing heavily, you dropped to your knees and sobbed as you cradled your daughter, feeling her cling to you with the same relieved desperation for comfort. You heard Loki shuffling away and sitting back down in the chair that he had previously been sitting in.
“What now?” he whispered shallowly, his eyes watching you and your daughter with a frown.
You grabbed the glowing TemPad on the table and slid it onto your wrist before walking over to the window and watching the branches get pruned one by one. “Now? We continue as normal. You go to New Asgard, reintroduce yourself and you stay there. I can’t be around you right now.”
Loki nodded sadly and watched you open the TimeDoor for him and he walked closer to you, watching you flinch away from him. “Please,” he whispered, his eyes on Haven as he held back a broken sob, “just a cuddle goodbye?”
You nodded and handed your daughter over to the Liar God and turned away to give them privacy.
Haven looked up at her dad with a soft smile, her hand slowly reaching up to cup his chin and she sighed softly, “mama will come around, dad, I promise. We’ll see each other soon, I promise.”
Loki laughed and stroked her hair, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead before standing and sitting her down on the ground. As he walked over to the TimeDoor, he looked over his shoulder and whispered more to you than Haven, “I love you.”
You didn’t react until after the door had closed behind him. Turning around, you listened to the echoing silence in the office before you walked over to the desk, grabbed your file and began to write that your timeline self would succumb to her depression after redeeming herself and would drop Mount Wundagore on top of her after whispering to America that the teen was to meet you in a small village in England.
Happy with how you could fit yourself back onto the timeline, you opened a TimeDoor and stepped through.
~~~~~~~~~
A month after settling into your home in the small village of Leconfield, you were finally feeling peace as most of the dark magic had seeped out of your core after your timeline self had killed herself destroying Mount Wundagore and the DarkHold. The home you were settled into was plenty for you and two children. Haven got the front child’s bedroom and America got the bigger back bedroom. You got the master bedroom and you were happy with your home.
You switched the news on at ten am one morning and saw a news report about Thor and Loki opening a memorial for all those who lost their lives in Ragnarok and also who fought nobly against Thanos with the Avengers. You saw in the live feed that even if he was reunited with Thor, Loki looked incredibly miserable.
“Morning mama!” Haven grinned, walking through the kitchen and into the back living room, a bowl of cereal in her hands as she sat beside you on the sofa and her eyes locked on the TV, “oh! The memorial is finished! Dad was proud of making it! Uncle Thor even put Grandma on there too!”
You hummed as you drew your knees up to your chest with a frown. You had imagined your separation from that Loki to be easy, you didn’t love him as you did with your Loki but you knew that he was Loki and you loved him forever.
“Haven!” called a voice from the kitchen and America poked her head around the door to look into the second living room, “where did you leave the coco pops? They’re not in their usual spot!”
Haven giggled and looked at her adopted sister with a Loki grin before gesturing to her bowl, “this was the last of it.”
You snorted when you saw America scowl at her sister and then feigned innocence when the teen glared at you. “Mum!” the girl whined, “can you conjure more coco pops?”
You shook your head and grinned at her before standing from the sofa and walking into the conservatory, opening the back doors to allow the morning air into the house. “Keep practising your seiðr and conjure it yourself,” you shrugged before walking out onto the decking and sitting on the outdoor furniture.
You heard America groan and stomp back into the kitchen and you giggled to yourself before looking up at the sky, the wind blowing your hair peacefully as your eyes fluttered closed.
The moment was ruined by the Bifrost opening in your garden and you screamed, falling over the arm of the chair in an attempt to get away from the sudden noise.
“Y/N?” came the soft voice that you had hoped you would hear again. You raised your head to stare at Loki and your heart stopped. He looked so handsome. His outfit was different from the live feed on the TV but he was here.
He was wearing a green silk button down with the sleeves rolled up, tucked into his black slacks, his shoes were solid black and he wore a watch on his wrist that you knew was the adapted TemPad you had sent the plans to him for. His hair was slicked back, some of it braided and pinned back with the rest. His nails were painted black and green. You couldn’t help but stare at him.
“Y/N?” Loki repeated patiently, smirking as he watched you check him out. He took a step closer to you and watched you step away, causing his smirk to fall. “Y/N…”
“Why are you here?” you spat, your eyes darting up to meet his and your heart pounded in your chest. The sight of him in this outfit made your core throb for him. You hadn’t had any action in years and it showed.
Loki sighed and walked towards you, soothed by the fact that you didn’t step away this time. When he stood before you, he cupped your cheek and whispered softly to you, “I couldn’t leave you, Y/N. In fact… I find myself thinking of you even at the most… inopportune moments of the day… I feel as if a link exists between your heart and mine… and should that link be broken either by distance or by time, my heart would cease to beat and I would die… and you… you would soon forget about me…”
“Never,” you whispered, shaking your head as you fought to keep your eyes on his own and not fall to his lips, “I would never forget you…”
The moments that passed were slow but soon enough, your lips were on his and you felt complete again, his arms wrapping around your waist and your arms wrapping around his neck. You moaned into the kiss as his tongue pressed against your lips for entrance and you whined happily as it slid between them when you parted them slightly. One of your hands slowly trailed up to his hair and got lost in the gelled-back tendrils that you had missed holding.
When you pulled away, a smile broke out across your face and you rested your head on his shoulder, swaying gently with him as a tear slipped from your eyes, “I missed you.”
With a gentle chuckle, Loki rubbed down your back gently and whispered softly, “I have missed you too, my lovely wife.”
“Daddy!!!” came an excited yell from the conservatory and Loki only had a moment to pull away from you and get to his knees before Haven was in his arms and laughing happily, “you’re home!”
Loki chuckled and kissed her forehead gently, rocking back and forth with her as he nodded, “I’m home, I’m home, I promise.”
“Mum? Who’s out there?” America called, walking out of the conservatory only to see you smiling behind your hands as Haven hugged who America knew to be Loki, “oh. Loki.”
Loki lifted his head and smiled at America, “you must be America Chavez. Your sister speaks a lot about you when she visits on weekends! It’s lovely to finally meet you.”
You watched America nod before you knelt beside Loki and Haven and gently held his shoulder, “come inside. I’ll cook you some breakfast.”
The God of Mischief grinned and stood up, Haven giggling in his arms as he did and then headed into the house. You took a deep breath before following him into the house with a childish grin on your face. What a family you were. A Loki variant, a Y/N variant and your littlest Variant, Haven.
Fic gift for you
Variants come and go at the TVA, and the Judge rarely remembers the faces, so often does she have to prune annoying miscreants who risk ruining the Sacred Timeline. Almost all who come before the judge are guilty, and for those who are innocent, their timeline is still doomed – and them along with it. Is it fair? Perhaps not. But this is the job the Judge has been bestowed, and she has no memory or desire to carry out any other purpose, content to decree a death sentence to all.
There is one name however, that sticks in her mind, despite the fact that she wishes otherwise. Loki Laufeyson; Loki Odinson; Loki, God of Mischief; Loki, Prince of Asgard; Loki, Heir of Jotunheim – no matter the title or surname, the first name remains the same, and the parade of Loki variants who inevitably find themselves before the Judge bring with them their own versions of chaos. It would be exhausting, if the Judge could feel exhaustion.
There are Loki variants of all shapes and sizes, genders and abilities, and the unpredictable nature of Loki means the Judge presides over the pruning of their variants more than any other living soul in her career. The most frustrating variants however, are those who are so close to the Sacred Timeline – so close to perfecting the role set out by the Time Keepers – who then make one poor decision and ruin the natural order. The Judge hates these ones most of all.
-
L6128 is a version of Loki that falls under this category. The Judge is currently staring at a small boy, with pale skin, dark hair and slightly trembling knees.
‘Laufeyson, Variant L6128, you are charged with Sequence Violation 7-84-29. How do you plead?’
The boy before the Judge squeaks slightly, stumbling backwards in shock.
‘I’m Odinson, not Laufeyson,’ he mutters, chin stuck out stubbornly despite his shaking voice. ‘My father will come and destroy you for stealing me.’
The Judge leans forwards slightly on her desk, and peers downwards.
‘As you have just learnt, in your extremely ill-advised adventure into your weapons chamber, you are not an Asgardian, and Odin is not your father. Learning your true heritage at this point has caused a Nexus event. I find you guilty.’
The hammer slams down on the gavel, and the small boy is led away for pruning. Compassion is not instilled in the Judge, but look the boy gives her remains in her mind for a long time.
-
‘Laufeyson, Variant L3524, you are charged with Sequence Violation 7-28-59. How do you plead?’
L3524 stares back at her with a slightly haunted expression, which hardens when he hears the name.
‘Don’t call me that,’ he snarls, struggling against the guards holding him in place. This version seems to be more physically combatant than the last few, and the Judge eyes him warily.
‘You did not deploy the Destroyer against your brother on Earth,’ she announces. ‘I find you guilty.’
‘So what?’ snaps L3524. ‘I showed compassion for my brother and didn’t murder him, and for this I am condemned? Who the hell are you to determine what I should or should not have done?’
The Judge sighs. ‘By not deploying the Destroyer, you did not set the scene for your brother’s development,’ she drones, shuffling some paperwork. ‘You caused a Nexus event. Guilty.’
-
‘Laufeyson, Variant L9173, you are charged with Sequence Violation 7-46-39. How do you plead?’
Another court case, another Loki. L9173 can barely stand, covered in bruising and burn marks. He might drop dead before the Judge can issue a verdict, which would be efficient but unsatisfactory.
‘I don’t think my brother is very impressed that you stole me away,’ L9173 grunts out, an amused expression on his face despite everything. ‘Didn’t you hear, we had a very touching reunion when I managed to shake off a little bit of mind control? He’s not going to be happy he’s lost me yet again.’
The Judge gazes back with a bland expression. ‘Mister Odinson is not a concern to us. You were the one who violated the sequence and caused a Nexus event by choosing to fight the Chitauri instead of leading the invasion. The Avengers cannot continue down the Sacred Timeline if this happens. Guilty.’
-
‘Laufeyson, Variant L3372, you are charged with Sequence Violation 7-59-41. How do you plead?’
L3372 is being held up by two Minutemen, his face ashen and one hand attempting to staunch the flow of blood that is spreading across his chest.
‘I’d say interminable legalese is not my highest priority right now,’ he says, attempting to sound proud and strong despite slowly dying as they all stand in the court. ‘Perhaps we could discuss random allegations after I’ve taken a moment.’
The Judge doesn’t need a moment to determine guilt, however. This variant has not faked his own death for Thor Odinson, and was therefore not on the pathway to pretend to be King of Asgard. The events of Ragnarok had been moving further away; the Sacred Timeline must be preserved.
‘Guilty,’ the Judge announces, a bored wave of her hand. She can’t be bothered to even give an explanation this time – and L3372 is leaving an annoyingly large pool of blood on the floor.
-
The Judge is performing deskwork rather than court duties when the whispers and rumours begin to trickle around the office. A Loki variant, who escaped the Minutemen and is now set free in the timeline. It’s a concerning accident, but the Judge is sure the TVA will resolve it in an appropriate manner. It is not the Judge’s problem to deal with, however, and so she pushes the thought aside. There is more pruning to be done.
-
‘Laufeyson, Variant L6742, you are charged with Sequence Violation 7-93-19. How do you plead?’
After the last few variants, it’s almost surprising for the Judge to see such a strong and triumphant looking Loki, despite a heavy layer of annoyance displayed across his face, and bruises littering his cheek. He’s still clutching a blue, glowing box.
‘What right have you to bring me here?’ L6742 snaps, clutching the box tighter. ‘I demand you release me and take me back to Thor at once.’
The Judge reads out loud from the paperwork. ‘You have violated the Sacred Timeline and caused a Nexus event through using the Tesseract to save yourself and Thor Odinson from Thanos the Titan. You are guilty, and sentenced to pruning.’
L6742 fights back against the Minutemen at this, managing to kill one with his own weapon before more Minutemen burst in and surround him.
‘Whatever it is, you’re wrong about me,’ L6742 says desperately. ‘I was making a difference.’
‘Exactly,’ the Judge feels compelled to interject. ‘You were making the wrong difference. Stop fighting the inevitable. You were born to cause pain and suffering and death. That’s how it is, that’s how it was, that’s how it will be. All so that others can achieve their best versions of themselves. Stop trying to stray from your path. Guilty.’
The hammer bangs on the gavel with finality, and L6742 is led away for his sentence.
-
There’s another Loki variant at the TVA not long after – L1130. The Judge doesn’t meet this version – Ravonna Renslayer herself oversaw his sentencing. But she is surprised to hear that the variant is allowed to keep existing, at least whilst helping on a case. Mobius always was a bit pathetic. The Judge doesn’t waste any more time reflecting on L1130 however – she has too many other important duties to be concerned about.
Indeed, she doesn’t think of him again until the TVA is burning around them. All of the Judge’s purpose in existence, going up in flames and she simply stares, for once truly feeling the shock. L1130 rounds the corner, followed by Mobius and a small man in bland office attire. They are all carrying weapons. There is no history between the Judge and L1130, but she swears she can see hatred in the Variant’s eyes before they open fire.
The Judge is disintegrated in an instant.
saudade- l. laufeyson
pairings: loki laufeyson x reader, mentions of other loki characters warnings: loki tv show spoilers, probably tva inaccuracies, mobius being trusted even though i don’t actually trust him lol, mentions of death, tears, a little sad angst but happy ending, ooc characters?? possible mistakes because i can't read this again skjfj about: requested, DF26 with TVA Loki running into the variant of his dead spouse a/n: thank you so much for requesting! i loved writing the last scene so much
loki has narrowly avoided the tva for years, opportunities much better than this and chaos a lot more chaotic than this have already been caused and passed. so the how and why he has been taken in at this very moment- while he’s eating at one of those fast food places you used to like- is very, very unknown to him. he should know, however; you’ve explained to him the tired concept of time traveling many times before, although the most important things were told to him when he thought you a mere mortal like the rest- something you were not- and could not possibly know something he didn’t- also something very untrue.
but the reasoning for his capturing is not at the front of his mind- although close- his main objective staying on how to get out of this unknown place and go back to looking for you- whether the fragile fabrics of reality and string of the timeline fray and break or don’t. he knows it possible, having seen the avengers do something similar, so why can a god like him not?
he’s ripped many holes, and he supposes the consequences for them are finally catching up to him, a lot sooner than he’d like. in another world, he’d already have you, and, with you by his side, you both would’ve been out long before, or never captured at all. although, he supposes, in a perfect world, you never would have been taken away from him in the first place.
he knows stopping for food he didn’t even necessarily need- or, really, like- was not a smart decision. he’s realizing exactly how not-smart of a decision it was with every passing second that the fools in armor drag him along the halls. the stop wasn’t needed, much less planned, but the memories the greasy food and dirty restaurant brought were too pleasant- a break full of you in the nonstop mission to find you. he could nearly feel your fingers touching his, hear your voice urging him to at least try and your bubbled laugh when he cringes. the fizz of the soda had made him grimace like the first time, except there was no you to giggle at it.
loki nearly thinks it was worth it. nearly.
when the guard shoves him into another room, loki takes a second to examine the exits, barely noticing the man at the desk. the person next to him pushes him further, dropping the tesseract and various stolen pym particles on the desk. loki takes note of where the man puts them so he can steal them back.
the guard stops with him in front of a small elevator, pulling a lever and waiting. loki looks at them, “where am i? get me back right now, i have things i must attend to.” the guard only looks at him, and loki scoffs, “i am loki of asgard, god of mischief and trickery, believe me when i say there will be deadly consequences if you do not do what i ask.”
the guard huffs a small laugh, “i’ve heard that before. we’ll see.”
the doors in front of him part, opening to a room he’s rammed into. he looks back the guard, one foot already out when he’s suddenly back where he was, watching as the entrance closes. he senses the machine before he can have a good look at it, a claw that he’s seen too many variations of beginning to poke at the fabric on his shoulders. he swats it away, standing tall as he glares at the smiling machine. “absolutely not! this is high tech armor, only few of this exists.”
the tech on the machine turns the grin into a frown, pulling back the talons and instead extending another apparatus that scans at his clothing, removing them with a yellow glow until he’s completely bare. he looks down at himself before looking back up at the face, pointing a finger, “now what-”
his words are cut off when he falls through the opening ground, falling onto the bottom room, now dressed in an uncomfortable tan jumpsuit, orange letters reading TVA on the left breast. a bored man in front of him pushes a pile of papers to him, “please sign to verify this is everything you’ve ever said.”
loki ignores his words, pushing it back, “i need to find someone, stop the absurdity.” the man only blinks as a machine whirrs, printing a piece of paper he reaches over to take and place on top of the pile. he hands loki a pen, “sign that too.” loki frowns, “did you not hear me? i have important things to do.” the machine does it again, and the man repeats his motions and shakes the pen in his hand. “that, too.” the god only sighs in frustration and signs, slamming the pen down before he’s dropped again.
another man greets him in a monotone, not even looking at him while he reads off the clipboard in his hands, “please confirm to your knowledge that you are not a fully robotic being, were born an organic creature, and do in fact possess what many cultures would call a soul.” loki’s eyebrows furrow, “i’m not a robot- how many people don’t know?”
“thank you for confirming, move through,” he requests. loki glances at the machine in front of him before stepping through it, a small picture printing after he’s on the other side. loki catches vibrant orange and red with hints of green that overcome any other color. “through the door, please.”
-
he encounters the same guard from before with a frustrated glare, leading him to what looks like a courtroom, a woman sitting in the middle, reading off a file. “variant L4293, aka loki laufeyson-l/n, is charged with sequence violation 7-20-89. how do you plead?” loki tilts his head at her, “madam, a god- i don’t plead.”
the woman sighs tiredly, “are you guilty or not guilty?” loki’s eyes thin as he observes her. “guilty of… trying to find my wife, yes. guilty of being extremely frustrated, yes. guilty of whatever it is you’re accusing me of, no. not guilty.” loki’s hand curls, trying to use his abilities inconspicuously but dismayed to not be able to. he tries again, only to come up empty as he realizes what is happening. “magic powers are no good in the tva, mister laufeyson,” the judge says absentmindedly. “i prefer l/n,” loki diverts simply, unknowingly catching the attention of one of the attendees. the judge barely acknowledges him, about to say something else before a man jumps up, hand raised, “wait, wait- uh, i have something to add to this. before the court makes a decision.”
the judge tilts her head at the man, pursing her lips before sighing and letting him approach the bench. loki leans in to try to understand the whispers that are exchanged, ending in the judge sending one last look his way before letting him go. “the court finds you innocent- and under agent mobius’ responsibility,” she clarifies, looking at the man and watching him nod quickly. she slams her gavel and motions for the man- mobius, he assumes, to take loki. he stands and awkwardly bows, before going over to loki and raising an eyebrow, “don’t betray me,” he says, words too true to be something playful. loki’s head tilts to the side in slight confusion, watching as the man begins to walk, pausing to urge loki to follow him.
loki ignores the activity through the windows of the hall, choosing to concentrate on mobius. “why did you do that?” he wonders aloud, suspicious eyes following him as his head peeks into halls. “let’s just say it’s a favor, although you’ll be on thin ice forever.”
“favor for whom?” mobius doesn’t answer, turning a corner. loki exhales sharply before following him, continuing to pry as he briefly heeds his surroundings. the sight of a woman in a suit much like mobius’ catches his eye, her back to him but he recognizes the shape of her shoulder and the color of her hair. he looks away, pretending to concentrate on the clock thing on the television but actually chasing the overfamiliar features to a face.
the sound of your voice- something he hasn’t heard in an obscenely long time- craved for so much longer it seems like a lifetime, snaps his attention to what surely must be a cruel joke. he can tell it’s you now. you’re standing there, head tilted at the same receptionist man and chuckling exasperatedly, “come on, casey, we’ve been over this. a fish and a lion are not the same thing-”
“but a lionfish-?” casey asks, and loki is pushing away the guards already, because you’re there, you’re solid and laughing like you used to and you can’t not be real. he can distantly hear mobius’ voice telling the guards to let him go as if loki hasn’t already taken care of that, walking over to you with quick and quiet footsteps. his fingers circle around your wrist first as an assurance, and when you turn, hand still in his, eyes widening when you notice who he is, he pulls you into him completely. your arms wrap around him barely seconds later, finally registering the person in front of you as you squeeze him. “loki?” you whisper, inhaling the same familiar scent of him that you haven’t had in what seems like forever.
“i missed you so much,” he says, hands wandering over your back, touching your arms and your shoulders and your hips just to touch you. “me too- i didn’t- i thought i would never see you again.” your tears are falling on the fabric of his jumpsuit, small tearful gasps escaping your lips while you tug him as close as you can, tangling your fingers in his hair and shutting your eyes at the familiar feeling. “oh god, you’re here-”
“i missed you so much,” he repeats, and you finally notice his words, realization like electricity, making you tremble and sigh softly. “what does that mean?” you question, already fearing the answer and already knowing the effects: the mess of his usually kept hair and the red tint of his eyes, like a sheen of sadness that stains the color of the eyes you have missed for so long. loki pulls away from you only to look at your face, trace the shape of the lips he’d spent hours of the morning pressing kisses to, memorize the curve of the nose you’d scrunch in a laugh when thor was a victim to one of his tricks.
“i have been looking for you, darling,” he murmurs, fingers running over your fallen tears while you notice the shine of his eyes, the tears that enhance the love he has for you. “because i’m…” you don’t want to finish your sentence, and you can tell loki doesn’t want you to either; he scans your features, small smile peeking through the shock and grief.
“i didn’t… mobius didn’t show me that, i thought-” your eyes flicker to the man before settling back on loki, the weight of the ring he’d given you feeling lighter now that it had found its pair. the various eyes on you don’t go unnoticed, and neither does the look mobius sends to the rest of the workers, indicating for them to go back to work. the cold of loki’s skin is comforting to the touch of your warmth, and you find yourself back in the summer afternoons where you would settle with your husband to read books, rubbing cool fingers on the hot of your skin when you felt suffocated by the heat of the sun.
another tear slips from your eyes when you realize you don’t have to imagine anymore, there’s no need to search for your memories and shut your eyes for them to run over you. your lips are on his when you can’t help it anymore, eyes squeezed close and salty tears dropping from your chin when it finally settles that he’s here and he’s yours and he’ll never be gone again.
he’ll make sure of that.
Prompt 3 - A breathy demand: “Kiss me” - and what the other person does to respond.
A/N: ⚠️⚠️⚠️MAJOR LOKI SHOW EPISODE 1 SPOILERS!!!⚠️⚠️⚠️
I literally had not written a thing and had no idea what I would write for this prompt UNTIL WEDNESDAY! 😂 It's not EXACTLY the prompt, per se. But I hope you enjoy this Loki Episode 1 partial rewrite ❤️❤️
You were hurrying to the time theater to meet up with your work partner, Mobius. He'd sent you a message that Loki had been apprehended. You had to restrain a squeal of glee. Mobius had become obsessed with studying Loki, so you had to watch and study everything with him. Mobius eventually decided that he wanted to adopt the god, more or less.
"I can help him!" He would tell you again and again. You would just chuckle and nod. However, you never disclosed to Mobius how you felt about your latest study.
As you turned the corner in the hallway, you ran into someone, ungracefully falling back on your butt. "Watch where you're going, mister!" You yelled.
"Y/N! Sorry! I didn't see you!" Mobius said, helping you up.
"What happened?" You asked, seeing the frazzled and panicked look on your normally calm partner's face.
"Loki's escaped." You spent the next 5 or so minutes running around before realizing something.
"Mobius?" You said. "Had you started showing him the tapes?"
"Yeah, of course! And it was just getting interesting too! But of course B-15 had to interrupt me! And you know how she is! You know, she-"
"Ok, I get it!" You chuckled. "Just, keep looking. I have an idea." You ran off down the hallway, finding your way back to the time theater. When you walked in, you saw Loki sitting on the floor, head in his hands and the Tesseract by his side. You noticed the film was now out of the reel. Mobius hadn't finished showing it to him, you remembered.
"Surely you're here to kill me this time," He says.
"No," You replied. "And I'm not even here to talk," You added, knowing what Mobius would have said to him. You saw him smile slightly. You sat down next to him and took a moment to take him in. You'd been watching him for so long in pictures and films, it was amazing to finally see him in front of you. Although you hated the situation and how he was being treated. You hated this place but up till now you had no way to fight it.
"I saw the film," He said. You nodded and sighed.
"I gathered that." You hesitated for a moment but reached out and touched his arm. "I'm sorry. Really I am." Loki looked at you, shocked. You almost gasped when you saw the tears streaming down his face. He was always such a strong, self-assured person. To see him so broken hurt you.
"I don't enjoy hurting people. I-I don't enjoy it," He said. "I do it because I have to," He spoke slowly, closing his eyes briefly. "Because I've had to." He looked away, shaking his head. "Because it's part of the illusion. It's the cruel, elaborate trick conjured by the weak to inspire fear. All I am is a villain and that's all I'll ever be."
"You're not weak, Loki," You whispered. "And you're not a villain," You said firmly. "I've been studying you. Much like my somewhat insane partner, Mobius. I can't speak for him, but this is what I think. I think your file is just beginning," You said, kneeling on the floor in front of him and looking straight into his eyes. "I think this is your second chance! You have so much good to offer and I love you too much to let you waste it." You backed away quickly. You slapped your hand over your mouth, embarrassed you'd said that.
"You love me?" Loki asked incredulously, wiping away the tears from his face. You nodded and noticed his breathing picked up. "I-Its just a lot to process," He admitted shakily.
"You've had one heck of a day," You said, taking his hands. You held yourself back from giving him a hug, not wanting to freak him out, and bit your lip nervously.
"What's wrong?" He asked.
"I just really want to give you a hug right now," You admitted, chuckling lightly.
"Oh," He said, looking away. You let go of his hands and started to stand up. "Okay," He whispered.
"What?" You asked.
"You can hug me if you want," he replied. You stared at him for a moment, shocked, before tackling him in a bear hug. He lost his balance from the impact and fell backwards, laying on the floor. You laughed loudly and held yourself up over him.
"I'm sorry," You giggled. He looked up at you, an odd look on his face.
"Kiss me," He breathed. You once again were rendered speechless. Loki, however, took this as a bad thing and quickly started apologizing. "I'm sorry, so sorry. I thought- Well you had said-"
"Oh shut up," You grumbled. You grabbed him by his shirt collar and pulled him in for a kiss. A few moments later you pulled away, still leaning your foreheads together. "I do love you, I was just surprised."
"Oh, okay," He said. Then he smirked mischievously. "Well in that case-" He kisses you again, wrapping his arms around you tightly. You hear the door open and someone walk in.
"I did not expect that. Wow."
Headcanons for being Thor’s twin
Thor Odinson x twin!reader
warnings:
a/n: HSHSHHSHSHHSHSGS
prompt: @locke-writes: “Wait Lacey I have a headcanon idea if you’re willing to write it. Headcanons for being Thor’s twin??? Idk man I feel like that could be unbridled chaos”
Tumblr media
okay, i believe that odin and frigga refused to tell the two of you who was born first
“either one of you could earn the throne, but you need to prove that you can handle the responsibility” -odin
jokes on him, neither of you cared for the opportunity to rule
you two were much better suited as warriors
you were both able to weild mjölnir, which created...disagreements
“i should have mjölnir! i lifted it first!” -you
“only because you pushed me out of the way!” -thor
“will you two just rip each other apart already?” -loki
speaking of loki, his pranks always exhausted you
especially when you appeared to have woken up in your twin brother’s body
“wh-what is this? LOKI!!!”
he always got a kick out of it
and the celebrations of victory? they never disappointed
“brother! another victory on the battlefield, but was there any other doubt?” -you
“of course not, y/n! at this rate, i don’t think we’ll ever fall!” -thor
“don’t put your hammer where your mouth is” -you
you and thor were definitely unstoppable fighting together, both blessed to be literal gods
“eyes front, thor! the fight’s not over yet!”
when you walked beside each other, sometimes you’d summon mjölnir to your hand
it always annoyed the hell out of him
“give that back”
“i don’t think i will”
“y/n, i’m serious”
“come and get it”
“that’s it!”
*swatting and wrestling in the middle of the hallway*
sometimes frigga would even catch the two of you arguing
“oh, my children. would you quit your bickering for just one moment?” -frigga
“but mother, y/n took my hammer!” -thor
“you’ll just have to learn how to share” -frigga
as the years flew by, there was always something crazy to occupy you
especially the day that thor had been banished, which hadn’t exactly gone as planned for loki
you were supposed to be banished, as well
“i suppose the future of the throne is your responsibility now, my child” -odin
“i...i don’t know what to say” -you
“but y/n doesn’t desire the throne one bit, i would have no problem stepping up, father” -loki
“we’ll deal with this later, brother” -you
you had to plan something with sif and the warrior’s three
yes, it was treason, but your brother would always be worth it. no matter how much you two argued, he was your other half
now you found yourself on earth, it was such an odd-looking place
and then you were chased by a destroyer
“thor, you must get to safety! i will not lose you again!” -you
“hi there, i’m jane...” -jane, obviously
“hello, lady jane! i’m y/n, thor’s twin!” *blocks debris* “i must go now!”
life didnt get much more simple after that, especially since loki had died (or so you thought) and the bifrost was completely destroyed, it would take a long time to fix any of the damages that asgard suffered
mourning over loki felt right and wrong at the same time, he betrayed you and your family, but you’d never stop loving him
he would always be your brother
as time went on, you had to visit earth once again because of...loki
“i should have known” -you
“yes, you should have” -thor
“you didn’t know, either!” -you
“and they call us petty?” -any SHIELD agent or avenger
loki mocked you when he was captured
“you were nothing but loved growing up, brother. what happened?” -you
“there was a shadow cast over me, thor’s shadow. don’t tell me you haven’t noticed it, either. odin only ever truly notices him and all of his feats” -loki
“you tell nothing but lies, loki. i won’t fall for them and i will not help you. you should stop while you’re ahead”
“so you agree that i’m ahead?”
threatening loki with mjölnir
ppl actually called mjölnir “thor’s hammer”
“i think you mean our hammer” -you
the battle of new york was admittedly terrifying, you knew loki had it in him, but seeing it in the moment just hurt you
it was possible you had a guilty conscience
but the avengers saved the day (mostly) and you brought loki and the tesseract home
and loki was sentenced to an eternity in prison
“hey, thor, think i’d have a shot at lady sif?” -you teasing the hell out of him
“shut up. you won’t make me jealous no matter what you say. my heart belongs to—” -thor
“the midgardian, i know”
you did sort of make him jealous tho ngl
aaanyways you pushed him to go see jane again, it had been too long to leave a midgardian waiting. their lives were short.
and you got to see her again! unfortunately you lost your mother that same day
and you were p i s s e d
murder? murder. (murder)
you may or may not have broke into the vault to get a weapon you could truly call your own
and then went against your better judgement and took loki to off-world with you
“y/n—” -loki
“shut up” -you
but you wish you had listened to what he had to say since you had the bear the loss of loki once again
now you had two family members to avenge
speaking of avenging, you steered clear of the avengers because......they were nuts
“y/n! you know, we could use another god like yourself on our team” -tony
“thor won’t help power your building, will he?” -you
“you got me” -tony
“so, you and thor are twins? who’s older?” -steve
“we actually don’t know!” -you
“oh...neat” -steve
“you know, thor was crying the first time he tried to lift that hammer of his” -clint
“i have no doubt about that” -you
“thor always talks about fighting in wars, but he never gives us any details. has he really fought wars?” -natasha
“oh, plenty of them! my brother and i have fought side by side in countless battles, you’ve even witnessed one! in new york!” -you
“how could i forget?” -nat
okay getting past all that, you focused on getting a headstart on some more *prophetic* instances that thor caught up to you on
and once you got back to asgard, you knew there was something wrong
“are you kidding me? loki? again?” -you
“hello, sibling. it’s nice to see you again” -loki
“why are you the way that you are?” -you
“that’s enough, y/n” -thor
✨going to midgard for odin who instead gave you a homicidal sister✨
hela was not nice at all. at ALL.
your heart broke when she shattered mjölnir
and loki made a bad call to open the bifrost for the whole odinspawn family
and next thing you knew, you were on sakaar
“thor? what the hell?” -you
“y/n! oh, it’s so good to see you! help me out here, please!” -thor
“i’m sorry, brother, but me and loki have been playing the loving brother/sibling act to keep it civil. this place...it’s unlike any place we’ve ever seen. we need to be smart. and we need to get back to asgard.” -you
“yes, we do. there is no doubt in my mind that hela is destroying asgard as we speak” -thor
“right, well...i don’t think loki will be joining us because, he and, uh, the grandmaster as they call him...they sort of formed a relationship” -you
trying to break thor out of prison and oh....hulk is here? that was unexpected
“y/n! y/n, that mean girl who kidnapped me? a valkyrie. a real life valkyrie!” -thor
“what?! father told us they had all died!” -you
“i think it would be safest to disregard everything father has ever told us” -thor
“i very much like that idea” -you
kicking absolute ass on your way out
you and valkyrie teamed up, so you had to say your goodbyes to loki early on, he made it clear he wanted to stay
“you will always be my brother, loki. i wish you well on your journey to find your place in this life. and i do love you, remember that” -you, giving him a hug
“...thank you, y/n. i...me, too” -loki
yet he came back for you in the end
after thor had lost his eye, he’d unlocked his true power........not to be a sore winner, but you’d unlocked yours first while he was on earth
but you two together? that should have been unstoppable
yet you weren’t
“what the hel? she should be dead!” -you
“we need to go” -valkyrie
“wait, i have one more idea” -thor
and that idea was the idea that ended asgard
but you’d create a new asgard
but then half of asgard was murdered by thanos! and you and thor were stranded in space! and loki actually died! and you were saved by space pirates! and were flirted with by half of their crew!
“thor, you need to see dmitri, you need a new weapon if we’re going to finish off thanos” -you
okay, well you and the “guardians of the galaxy” went after infinity stones instead, you knew that one day you’d have to
running into tony stark in space?????
“y/n? what are you doing here?” -tony
“i’m here to kill thanos, what are you doing here, stark? who are these two?” -you
“hi, i’m peter! that’s mister—doctor strange” -peter
everyone turned to dust after thanos escaped and you, tony, and nebula went to star-lord’s ship
and were saved by captain marvel
and reunited with thor
“y/n, by odin’s beard, i thought i had lost you” -thor
“it’s alright, i’m here now” -you
starting up new asgard and watching your brother fall into a depression that caused you to do most of the heavy lifting in this new kingdom
“are you still playing fortnite, brother? it’s five in the morning” -you
“can you pass...” *belch* “just pass me another beer” -thor
and after 5 years, you got to go back to asgard? but asgard from 10 years prior
“mother...” -you
“y/n, we have a mission” -rocket
“i know, i know...where’s thor?” -you
running into your mother while getting thor
“hello, mother. i...yes, hello” -you
“hello, my child. i hope that the future is treating you well” -frigga
“it isn’t, but thank you, mother. i love you” -you
and then you were back on earth and had to comfort thor, who was self-loathing again
but the work had been restored by a simple snap!
and you and thor were able to fight a real fight once more, summoning mjölnir again was invigorating
and there was some kind of bittersweet win here, one i’ve covered plenty of times
“it was fitting for such a great battle to be our final one for now” -thor
“you’re leaving?” -you
“i am, but i trust you’ll take care of our people like you always do. i will see you again, dear sibling. one day” -thor
Mobius' identity theory 11
On with my 20 days of pre-TVA Mobius’ identity theories event!
[Edit: previous - next | Masterpost]
Day 11: the Space Stone
Told you they'd be some crazy theories, well, here is one!
This time, I'm not talking of Mobius succumbing to the power of the Tesseract like "Mister Tesseract" was all about, but about Mobius being - or at least being made of - the Tesseract, or more so, of the Space Stone.
I'm basing this one on the controversial theory that infinity stones have a mind of their own. In this case, not only would the stone have a mind, but it would also possess a humanoid form and therefore a higher degree of autonomy, as well as a name: Mobius Mobius Mobius (and, well, a Mobius strip happens to be a common symbol of Infinity, a one-sided surface you can loop on indefinitely).
Either a synthetic being à la Vision, a former human that somehow "fusioned" with the stone to become something new, or a stone that "choose" to take a human shape, Mobius' identity would be indissociable to the stone composing him.
Would this have been considered an act of transgression in and of itself by the TVA? Or did he commit another crime against the Sacred Timeline? Anyway, he ended up being arrested, brainwashed, and "put to good use".
Yes, I know that Infinity Stones loose all power within the walls of the TVA, where they are used as paperweight. But it doesn't mean their personalities "dissipate", should they have one. And if Loki doesn't automatically transform back into a Frost Giant when he enters it, I don't see why Mobius' couldn't keep his appearance as well, even if the stone's energy was initially used to acquire it! As for when he goes on the field, sure, he never seems to manifest any extra-human abilities, but how could unleash a power he cannot remember ever possessing? (Also, and yes, this is absolutely me fangirling, but can you imagine the moment he does for the first time before a very confused - and very impressed - Loki??!)
Finally, of all the Infinity Stones, which could have suited Mobius better than the Space one? I know I'm at it again but the angst potential of a Mobius discovering his origins and unable to stop himself from wondering if he and Loki ever got close because Loki, who has a history of reaching for the Tesseract, has been unconsciously drawn to him by his Stone powers... (the answer is no!!!)
Note
Now, this could just be me but this whole Mr.Tesseract thing is giving me flashbacks to Gravity Falls Bill Cypher and I could be wrong but this feels like a reskin of Bill. Not saying I hate it I'm just saying history might be repeating itself and I don't know how to feel about it. At this point, all I see is.
Dilf^2(Lighting McQueen+Bill Cypher)+ all blue rubrics cube= Mr.Tesseract
You know what I sort of like it now that I did the math but what do you think?
***A little background for those who don’t know who Mister Tesseract is, because I’ve been asked about it before so I thought I’d put it here too, to avoid any confusion.
Basically Mister Tesseract is Mobius’s nickname in the comics, though I’m not a hundred percent sure about this because I’m honestly not a comic geek, but that’s what I’ve learned. And lately it’s become a popular headcanon within the Mobius fandom that Mobius possessed the power of the Tesseract, thus he became this powerful being called Mister Tesseract. Though he may or may not get corrupted by it in the progress.
And to make it more angsty, Loki is the one who’s trying to get a corrupted, powerful Mobius to remember him. So there’s that.
That being said, I must confess I’m not really in the Gravity Falls fandom and haven’t actually seen much of it, so I’m afraid I don’t have enough knowledge about the show to have an opinion about the similarities between Bill Cipher and Mobius? Except for that Bill kind of reminded me of Miss Minutes? Which I suppose is irrelevant to your ask.
Though I do have opinions on Mister Tesseract being canon in the MCU, and I think there’re possibilities. Not likely, but there’re still possibilities. Mobius somehow getting himself exposed to the Tesseract, and not only did he possess its power but he also got corrupted by it. Thus the beginning of Mister Tesseract.
And Mister Tesseract may not be the same kind and gentle Mobius Loki knows at all. So it’s up to Loki to stop this powerful being before it’s too late. But the problem is that, Mister Tesseract is — to Loki — still Mobius. He wears Mobius’s face. He is still the man Loki came to love (whether it be platonically or romantically) and Loki can’t actually hurt him.
He wants his Mobius back and he has no idea if his Mobius is still somewhere, inside this powerful being that’s destroying the universe, or if he’s already gone. Still Loki has to believe he’s not too far gone, that he can still save his Mobius.
And I think that would be one hell of an epic plot I’d love to see. Obviously if it were to be canon (I personally doubt it’d be, though there’re always possibilities) I’d hope for an eventual happy ending for both Loki and his Mobius.
Or, I don’t know, maybe someone could write a fic about it? 👀
The other side part 1 : Imagine the Avengers as villains
(by the power invested in me, you are magically teleported to another dimension.)
Pov : You are an Avenger with the ability to shapeshift (nobody knows about your powers, not even the Avengers.) You prefer not to use them and concentrate on being a good agent for the SHIELD. However, one day, you wake up and find that some things have changed..
Tony Stark :
Tumblr media
You wake up in a deserted place. Everything seems so familiar, and yet so different. You seem to be in the Avengers tower but, everything is so dark and gloom. There is no light and this is when you hear footsteps walking in your direction. You try to get up and get in a defensive position, but your head is swinging. Suddenly, there is light. It takes you a moment to get used to the blinding light, but once you do, you recognize the person instantly.
" T..Tony ?"
You manage to ask as the man is now clearly in view. However, he doesn't respond. He only eyes you up and down with a stare that makes you shiver in fear. He suddenly walks towards you and his hand slides in your inner pocket to get out your identity card. He takes a glance and frowns before uttering.
" Y/N L/N.."
He then looks up at you with his eyes narrowed in suspicion.
" Who are you ? And how did you get in here ?"
You are surprised that he doesn't recognize you and you start to think that all of this is some kind of joke.
" Come on, Tony ! It's me ! I'm your friend !"
His eyes darken and he only chuckles.
" Sorry for you, sweetheart. I don't have any friends."
Suddenly, he puts on his suit that, instead of being its usual bright red and yellow color, is now black and silver. You frown in incomprehension and take a step back.
" T..Tony. You can't hurt me. You're a hero, remember ?"
But Tony only laughs from inside his suit at your words.
" Me ? A hero ? You are losing it.."
You shake your head, confused, and cry out.
" But, you are ! You saved me ! You care about people !"
He seems to think for a moment and, to your surprise, gets out of the suit to stare at you with an eyebrow raised.
"Me ? Care ? It's like you're describing a whole other man, sweetcheeks. The truth is..I don't care. The world can burn. Money is power. And if I follow that logic, I'm a God..And why would a God meddle with commoners ?"
You can't believe what you are hearing..Tony seems so cold now, looking down at you as if you are an ant on his path..It scares you..But then, someone crashes through the window and stands in front of you defensively.
" Mister Stark ! You're under arrest !"
To your surprise, you recognize the voice of Peter..But why would he attack Stark ?! It doesn't make any sense ! But, Tony doesn't seem surprised. He only gets back to his suit and smiles at Peter with a wicked grin.
" We meet again, Spiderboy. You know, my offer still stands. You can join me ?"
But Peter shakes his head negatively before shouting.
" Never !"
You are shocked and finally, try to talk to Peter that doesn't seem surprised either.
" P..Peter ?"
He turns his head towards you, surprised that you would know his name. However, before you could say anything else, you black out.
Bruce Banner :
Tumblr media
You smile widely as you recognize Dr Banner. But the moment you take one step towards him, he cowers in fear. You instantly know that something is wrong, as he has marks of torture all over his body and wraps his arms around himself defensively.
" Who are you ?! I..I'll call them !"
You frown in incomprehension. Call who ? He seems to understand your confusion and adds.
" The..The Downfallers ! They're going to kill you if you touch me !"
You are about to ask who are the Downfallers when someone appears behind you.
" No need for that, my friend. They're all gone."
You turn around to see a man in a black suit, looking at Banner that seems to be extremely frightened by the man.
" Dr Kaecilius.."
He whispers almost painfully. You automatically put yourself in front of Dr Banner with your arms extended, ready to defend him if the man was to hurt him. The man arks an eyebrow at your action, but only asks with curiosity.
" Why are you defending him ?"
You try to see if it's a trap, but once you know he isn't joking, you answer.
" Because Dr Banner is a good man that protects lots of people ! Him and Hulk have done many good things to protect Earth and I won't let you hurt him !"
To your utter surprise, it's Dr Banner that replies spitefully.
" They caged me. They tracked me. They tortured me..Why would I ever protect them ?"
This..This can't be right. Doctor Banner loves people. He wants to help people. But then, Dr Banner screams and groans in agony. You want to kneel beside him to help, but the man suddenly tackles you to the ground as Dr Banner, now Hulk, throws a desk at you before jumping through a window. The last thing you see are the eyes of Dr Kaecilius before you black out.
Antman :
Tumblr media
You wake up in a room you don't recognize and see Scott by your side. You smile in relief.
" Oh my God! I'm so glad to see you, Scott! You won't believe what happened ! One moment I'm in the lounge with everyone and then suddenly, I end up here and..What are you doing ?"
You notice that he has his hands inside a nearby cupboard and he suddenly stands up with his hands in the air.
" Oh. Oops. You got me. Guilty as charge. I was going to rob you but then I noticed that..well..you don't really have anything."
You ark an eyebrow. Scott ? Stealing ? This is new..
" Thank you..I think ?"
He then starts dancing and you frown in confusion.
" Humm..What are you doing now ?"
" Keeping you busy, darling."
You don't even have the time to understand what he means when you get hit on the back of the head by someone. You hear them running out of the house by the window, followed by another set of footsteps.
" Sh*t!"
It's the last thing you hear before blacking out completely.
Dr Strange :
Tumblr media
You find yourself in a strange place where words seem to be floating around you. You can breathe and hear two people fighting not far from you. You get up and are shocked to see Dr Strange and Wanda..fighting ?! You don't have the time to think more about the situation when Wanda shouts.
" It's over ! Give up, Dr Strange ! I'm stronger than you will ever be !"
You crawl even closer to hear them better and try to understand the situation. Plus, who are you supposed to side with ?! However, the answer quickly comes as Strange let's out his best evil laugh before replying to Wanda in a threatening low voice.
" Maybe, but I will never tire. I can't say the same for you. I can keep dying and dying. But, there will be one time when you will be too tired to fight, and then, I'll kill you. This is how things are now, Witch ! You and me. Trapped in this moment. Endlessly."
She grits her teeths and starts shooting at him, trying to hit him. He only laughs while dodging every single one of her attacks. Suddenly, you lose your grip and fall right in the middle of the fight. They both look at you with widened eyes, surprised, as you get up and look at the both of them, unable to find your words.
" Who are you ?!"
Dr Strange finally yells and you turn towards him with an awkward smile.
" Ah ah. Funny you ask. My name is Y/N. And I come from a dimension where we are..friends ?"
He quickly checks your story and his eyes widen as he finds out that you are right. He wants to get to you, but Wanda puts herself in front of you defensively and Stephen frowns, clearly annoyed.
" Move, Witch. This has nothing to do with you."
But she refuses and Strange sighs loudly.
" Fine. I'll delay your death, for now."
He then clicks his fingers together and you find yourself on Earth. Wanda looks back at you to make sure you are alright, but you black out.
Bucky :
Tumblr media
You don't even have the time to understand what's going on that Bucky is standing in front of you with a slight smirk.
" Hello doll..Mind if I borrow you for a second ?"
You don't have the time to answer that he takes you by the arm and points the head of his gun against your head.
" Get out of there, Loki ! Or I kill them !"
To your surprise, Loki gets out from underneath a car and raises his hands in surrender.
" Don't do it, Bucky. Let the human go.."
But Bucky doesn't and only digs the end of his gun further against your skull, painfully.
" I don't know..Depends. Are you willing to give me what I want ?"
Loki looks at you for a second before sighing in defeat and taking out a bright blue cube from underneath his cloak.
" Give me the human, and it's yours."
You bite your lower lip. Is it a nightmare ?! Loki is actually bargaining your life for the tesseract ?! He smiles reassuringly at you and you can't help but smile back..Even though Bucky is still threatening you with a gun.
" Give me the tesseract..and I'll consider it."
Loki takes a shaky breath before walking towards him with the tesseract in his hand. Suddenly, he stops and smirks at Bucky.
" Catch."
He then throws the Tesseract in the air and Bucky pushes you forwards to catch the tesseract. Loki catches you and whispers to you.
" Hold on."
To your biggest surprise, he gets out Mjölnir and summons a portal to get out of here. You look at Bucky that catched..nothing. The tesseract was a false and he glares at Loki that only winks in response. He lets out a scream of rage and starts running towards you, but you disappear before he can reach you.
Thor :
Tumblr media
You smile when you recognize Thor and run towards him. However, you quickly slow down when you see his sour face. He continues to advance menacingly towards you with Stormbreaker in his hand. You quickly understand that something is wrong and throw yourself on the floor as he uses Stormbreaker to throw lightning at you. To your greatest horror, it hits some SHIELD agents behind you. You turn towards Thor with tears in your eyes as you scream.
" Thor ! What's happening to you ?!"
He doesn't answer you, he just uses his thunder to grab some SHIELD agents and throw them away. Your eyes widen as he seems to be on a murder rampage. You try to get to him, but someone does it first. You can't believe your eyes when you see Hella with tears in her eyes.
" Thor ! Brother ! Please ! Stop this nonsense at once !"
But he doesn't listen to her and grabs his axe to attack her. He isn't himself..and so isn't Hella. She just tried to save you ! And wasn't she dead ?! You are so confused and before you can really comprehend what's happening to you, you black out.
Captain America :
Tumblr media
You find yourself in a deserted metro station and turn around to see..
" Oh thank God ! Captain, can you explain what's going on ?!"
But Steve stays quiet and you quickly notice that something is definitely wrong..He is looking threateningly at you and the way he moves makes you shiver in fear. You take a step back and this is when he asks coldly.
" Who are you ? And how do you know me ?"
This is when you know that this is not your Steve in front of you. It can't be..But then, another man appears that you don't recognize..He has long graceful blond hair and his whole appearance screams fantasy tale. He stands in front of you defensively and Steve automatically chuckles darkly in hatred.
" Ronan..I was wondering when you would show up.."
The blond man quickly looks back at you to check that you are alright before looking back at Rogers with a frown. Ronan..You had heard that name before..but where ?
" Surrender, Captain..Or you may regret it."
But Rogers doesn't listen to him and only whistles. An helicopter appears and Captain tauntingly waves goodbye before running outside and jumping to catch a rope. Ronan quickly runs after him. You try to get after them as well, but suddenly black out.
Falcon :
Tumblr media
You see Falcon attacking some members of SHIELD and frown in confusion. Was there spies among your ranks ? You approach Falcon and start fighting by his side. However, at the end, he only glares at you before taking something that strangely looks like the tesseract..
" I'm taking this with me..I appreciate the help but, the tesseract is mine, cutie."
You frown..He had never called you cutie before. And if this is the tesseract, why sound so menacing when you would both bring it back to the tower ? However, you don't have the time to think more about it since you spot Zemo, looking down at Sam. You tackle Sam to the ground just in time as Zemo starts shooting at him. However, Sam suddenly pushes you out of him harshly and jumps out to fly away. You think it's like at training, you have to take his legs and you would both fly home..But when you jump and catch his legs, he seems surprised at first and then, gives you a hard glare before harshly stomping on your hands. You fall and scream. You close your eyes and try to contain your tears as the world goes black.
Hawkeye :
Tumblr media
You don't have the time to truly process what's going on that you see an arrow lodge right in the eye of a SHIELD agent. You would recognize that arrow anywhere..
" Oh no..Hawkeye. What have you done ?"
You run in the direction of the arrow and find him, surrounded by many dead bodies. Your hand flies to your mouth so fast and you feel nauseous as Hawkeye turns towards you. His eyes are as cold as ice and they seem to pierce right through you.
" Well..That's a first..I missed one."
You are so shocked by his sudden change in behavior that you don't react when he walks towards you menacingly. He takes his bow and suddenly shoots an arrow at you, but a bright blue light runs in front of you stops the arrow. You automatically recognize..Quicksilver ? But..But that's impossible.
" Bet you didn't see that coming.."
He gets put his infamous line and you know, it's him. However, Hawkeye only chuckles darkly.
" As a matter of fact, I did."
Suddenly, the arrow exploses and sends Quicksilver flying against a wall. You immediately run by his side to check if he is still breathing and sigh in relief as you feel a pulse. You look up to see Hawkeye walking away and stand up to yell at him.
" What happened to you, Clint ?!"
Hawkeye stops dead in his tracks at his first name and turns around to look one last time at you. He narrows his eyes, as if he couldn't recognize you before running away. You want to get back to Quicksilver..But the world turns black.
Black Widow :
Tumblr media
You end up in a sort of complex where you see multiple agents on the floor. You take out your own gun, wondering if an enemy had succeeded in entering..However, you are relieved to see Natasha walking towards you. You smile and want to ask if everything is alright, but she suddenly gets out two guns and starts shooting at you. You just have the time to jump out of the way. Your heartbeat quickens. Why is she shooting at you ?!
"Natasha! It's me! It's Y/N!"
But she doesn't seem to hear you..or to even recognize you. She just continues shooting until someone runs past you, avoiding all of her bullets with frightening agility. They start fighting each other and you are impressed by the other agent's fighting techniques. He is as or even better than Natasha ! His fighting skills are incredible. However, Natasha still manages to get the upper hand and throws a kick at his face that sends him flying. She then throws some kind of mini-bombs and you immediately put yourself on top of him. You didn't like using your powers, but you wouldn't let him die after he saved you life. You grow some kind of shell around you both. The bombs explode and when it's safe, you retract and get up. Natasha is gone and you have a knocked out agent on the floor..Great. However, you suddenly feel yourself blacking out and fall to the floor as well.
Tumblr media
He did not think this through.
The fallen god grasped at the ground beneath him. He’s covered in ash and the air around him burns and freezes. He smelled smoke and fire and then blood and flesh. He pushed himself up off the metal floor. “Where the hell am I?”
A weak moan alerted him, and to his left, he found a man in his final seconds. The dying man lifted his arm weakly; his fingers shook. He rasped out a last cry for help at his prince before his hand fell and his soul was sent to Valhalla. Loki knew that man. He sold Blåveis and wildflowers at the edge of the market when he was a child. Why was he here… dying a warrior’s death?
“Our crew is made up of Asgardian families.” A transmission. “We have very few soldiers here. This is not a warcraft. I repeat this is not a warcraft.” Asgardian? This ship certainly wasn’t Asgardian... Why was this man sending a mayday call?
“Hear me and rejoice…”
The bodies around him were all Asgardians. Soldiers and men laid lifeless in this iron room—on this ship that was not a warcraft. Surely Thor wouldn’t let this happen… Nor Odin. How did this happen?
He was no less confused when he heard his brother speaking on the other side of a large crack in the metal wall. On the level below him stood his brother trapped in steel and strange beings he’d never encountered. One was tall with a gauntlet of gold like the one Odin kept locked away in his vault. He was collecting Infinity Stones… Behind him was a thin and sinister figure. And another was… himself. With the tesseract. Like the one that was… where was it?
“Loki?” A woman watched him from behind a fallen support beam. In her hands was the Tesseract. Her lip curled downward and her brow wrinkled in confusion. “Why do you have this?”
“Who are you?” Alright, so she knew his name, and he clearly didn’t know her. Her clothes were not of Asgard. The dress was revealing and unfitted to her, the straps her too long, making the neckline only slip further. Even as she watched him carefully, she still absentmindedly pulled up the straps.
“Wha—”
A scream from below interrupted the woman. She ran to the edge of the room and peered through the wall. Loki could not see what was happening, but the horror in the woman’s eyes said enough.
“Oh Valhalla...” Her hand clamped over her mouth. Loki slowly approached the source of the screams before he heard his own voice.
“ALL RIGHT, STOP!!” The woman gasped and stepped back, turning to face him. Her eyes watered and her bottom lip trembled. She turned back to him.
“Who are you?” she demanded, though her voice wavered. “Are you one of them?”
Loki scoffed. “I haven’t the slightest ide—”
“Why do you look like him?” she cut him off. “You’re not Loki,” she insisted.
Loki chuckled nervously, but he flashed a charming smile and lifted his hands hoping to appear non-threatening. He started to approach her, trying to figure out a way to get the Tesseract back.
“Don’t come any closer! I will—use this!” she warned, holding the cube in between the two of them.
“Do you even know how to use that?”
“Um—well, do you?”
“I got here with that thing, didn’t I? Now give it back.” He stretched his hand out to her, but she didn’t move a muscle.
“No, I—”
Loki had enough. He wanted answers. Now. The woman gasped as he disappeared and reappeared in front of her in a flash of green, the cube now in his hand and her arm in his other. “Tell me where I am.”
She stared at his grip on her. “You’re not my Loki…” she inquired once more.
A daunting whir of hums and struggles came from the crack. The woman peered back at the scene below. Thor’s muffled cry filled the walls of the iron room, but it was the woman’s scream that shook Loki to his core. She fell to the floor and wailed and howled in agony. A weak “no” and soft pleas escaped her tears.
Loki glanced through the hole as the woman started to gulp air between her sobs. His lifeless body was strewn on the floor, and a purple haze shrouded his view of the scene below. Amethyst flames began to surround the ship. Metal and dead men were enveloped in the blaze. Loki never liked the heat…
It appeared that Loki’s time here… wherever he was, was about to come to an end. Blue light encased his fingertips and the cube materialized before him. A sharp choking sound clouded out Loki’s attempts to think of anywhere he could go—the woman.
“Shit…” Using his free arm, Loki pulled the woman up before she could protest. “This better work.” He lifted the Tesseract and prayed the silvery clouds encasing him and his new acquaintance would take him anywhere better than here.
Loki sat up covered in sand. Again, more heat. He was really starting to think this damned cube was more a curse than a blessing.
“Oh… ow…” The woman groaned and rubbed her puffy eyes. Squinting under the desert sun, she glanced around to view her surroundings before her eyes widened in realization. “Oh shit!” Her hands returned to the ground, burying themselves in the sand frantically.
She whipped around in a haze of anger and hysteria. “Take me back!” she screamed to him. “Take me back!”
“What the hell are you talking about!? That ship is gone—and I just saved your life!” Loki argued, but she wasn’t listening and continued to dig through the sand. Loki ignored her as he concealed the cube under his magic. He looked back up to see the woman still clawing at the sand. “Who are you?”
“Take… Take me back,” she begged, slowly giving up on the sand. “I have to go back.”
Loki watched the woman break into sobs once again. His grip on the dagger up his sleeve softened and his gaze relaxed. “Who are you?” he asked once more.
“Is this some cruel trick you played Loki? Because it’s horribly unfunny!”
“I assure you that I don’t have the slightest clue as to what you’re referring. That… Loki. He wasn’t me.” Where did this damn thing take him?
“I don’t believe you. You… Out of all the things you’ve done Loki. Lying, stealing, killing, faking your death. I’m… I can’t take it! You promised you wouldn’t—”
A flash of orange cut off the woman. The light shaped itself into a doorway above the dunes.
“What the hell—” Loki turned on his heel to face the orange portal in time to see four men step out two-by-two. Their tailored coats were labeled with “TVA” and Loki’s stomach immediately dropped. “Shit.”
One of the men in the back handed the forefront man a clipboard from which he read off, “Mister Laufeyson and… friend. The TVA requests your presence at headquarters. You are under arrest for meddling in with the fabric of space-time. Please be compliant and come with us. Your friend can come if she’d like.”
“I’m not going anywhere with you,” Loki insisted. “If you don’t mind, I would hate to have all this trouble I’ve been through go to waste. Thank you. Bye!” Just as he was about to pull out the Tesseract, one of the men suddenly appeared in front of him and pulled out a pair of handcuffs. Loki threw a dagger at the man, hitting him square in the chest. The man merely looked down at the weapon, no change in his expression. He grabbed onto the handle of the dagger and pulled it out. No blood, the wound already healed.
“Please comply, Mister Laufeyson. The TVA expects your arrival,” he said.
“I don’t think so.” Loki revealed the Tesseract with his magic, praying it would take him somewhere good for once. But as soon as he took it out, the handcuffs were tightened on his wrist. The emotionless man repeated his request for compliance.
The other men move then, making their way to the woman. She stands slowly and silently allows them to escort her to the portal. She refuses to meet Loki’s eyes as they both walk defeated to the portal.
“So he’s really not lying then,” she said quietly. Her hands dug into her skirts. Her hair covered half of her face, but anyone could make out the tears that lined her cheeks.
“No, I’m afraid not, Miss,” Mobius answered. “I regret to say your actual husband is gone.”
She pushed the desk and her metal chair screeched on the linoleum floor. Loki didn’t look up from his hands planted on his tan prisoner uniform pants as he listened to her distant footsteps and the sound of a closing door. He tugged at the cuffs on his wrists. He could feel the magic dampened in his veins. The muscles in his forearms felt dull.
“Loki,” Mobius started. “As you can see, the warrant for your arrest specifies that we will have to prosecute you. You’ve broken several laws, violating the guidelines of linear time travel as well as interdimensional voyaging. While our agents are currently fixing the mess you made, including sending that lovely woman back to Earth-200000, you will, of course, have to be sent back to Earth-199999 so that the course of events and play as they were supposed—”
“You’re going to kill her.”
“Excuse me?”
The door kicked open again. Another agent in a clean suit marched in with a glass plate in hand with a sandwich laying on top. He placed the sandwich on the desk and left as quickly as he came in. “The woman. There’s nothing to send her back to. The ship she was on was destroyed before I saved her. You’re not sending her back. You’re going to kill her.”
Mobius leaned forward on his desk, clasping his hands. “We’re simply sending her back straight back to the time and place she left. If that happens to lead to her death, so be it. That’s her fate.” He paused to rest his head on his hands. “What do you care anyway? You don’t know her.
Loki hesitates to answer. No, he didn’t know her, but… he can’t stop thinking about how she reacted when… he died. The he that she married. Devoted herself to. She looked… dead inside. Hollow. Did she feel as he did when he fell from the Rainbow Bridge all those years ago? Was he looking at her the way Thor did when he let go?
“Are you going to eat that by the way?” Mobius pointed to the sandwich. “That’s technically for you, but I skipped lunch.” He didn’t wait for Loki’s answer before bending over the desk and taking the sandwich before taking a large bite out of the corner. Loki leaned back in his seat.
“If she was my wife in another dimension, I can’t help but be curious. Perhaps I’d enjoy her company.” Loki tilted his head. The gears turned in his head. He needed to figure out a way to escape. The TVA took the Tesseract from him, and he wasn’t keen on making an exit in prisoner attire.
“I didn’t know you had a thing for widows.”
“Well, I can’t say it’s never crossed my mind,” Loki smirked.
Mobius chuckled and took another bite of the sandwich. “Sadly, we’ll never know how that would work out. An agent will escort you to your holding cell until further notice.” An agent waited for Loki to stand and directed him towards the exit. “Oh, and thank you for your compliance.”
The TVA looked awfully like Midgard, perhaps from some decades ago. The architecture was garish, and the employees were... disconcerting. Each bred and born for a specific purpose. His… Odin once told him about the Time Variance Authority. Existing in an infinite dominion between worlds, a bureaucracy that rules the operations of time across the multiverse. Workers are cloned to working perfecting. Minimize disputes, increase efficiency.
The agent guided him down another long hall with identical doors lining the walls, opening and closing as countless numbers of agents entered and exited them. Loki glanced to his left. An agent walked through the door… to a jungle on the other side. To his right, a female agent exited a metropolis with flying vehicles. Another escorted a Krylorian to a portal leading to a crashing ocean. The chains between his limbs clinked as he strolled down the hall that never seemed to end.
“Thank you. I… think I’m ready now.” You stood in front of a closed door, holding the hand of an agent. He nodded and you dropped his hand. He opened the door, silently motioning her towards the shipwreck that Loki had rescued you from a mere couple of hours ago.
Loki muttered your name.
“Oh, uh hello.” You shifted uncomfortably. “I have to say. I think you look better in green.”
Loki smiled softly. “I think this attire might be worse than my actual punishment.”
You chuckled in return. “At least I can die in dignity in my own clothing.”
Loki was taken aback. “You’re not serious?” Loki again noticed the state of your appearance. Eyes flushed and puffy and red. Your bottom lip was swollen as you continued to chew on it.
“I am.” He said your name once more, like he was in disbelief that you would be so willing to give up your life like this. He reminded you so much of the man you married. Always the survivalist. It was strange to see the face of the love of your life standing before you even though it wasn’t really him. Some part of you wished your husband was the one standing before you, but there stood a slightly younger version of the god that you would have given your life for... in the flesh. “I hate to end our new friendship on such a bad note, but you do age quite a bit in the next few years. Try to sleep more, my dear Loki.”
The god scoffed and turned his head. “I’m not letting you just… kill yourself.”
“I’m just taking a page from your book.” You swallowed, a frown evident on your lips. “I assume you did the same as my Loki after Thor destroyed the Rainbow Bridge.” You turned and looked at the scene of the broken ship floating in the cosmos. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that… Take care of yourself, Loki.”
Loki grasped your wrist before you could walk through causing the cuffs to pull his other arm up. The agent behind Loki tapped his shoulder, insisting that they needed to move on, but he ignored his probes.
“I’m not letting you walk through that door.”
“My husband is dead.” There was an insistence in your voice that you seldom used, and yet your breath quivered. The tip of your nose was cold. The tears welled up in your eyes once more, but you sighed and wiped your eyes. “It’s okay,” you whispered. “I want to be with him. Let me go, Loki.”
The agent now placed a firm hand on Loki’s shoulder. “Mr. Laufeyson. It’s time to go.”
Loki turned back around, a devilish grin lining his lips. “Yes, I believe it is.”
In a trice, the agent behind Loki was on the floor and the one guiding you was on the other side of the door, floating in the ship debris where you were supposed to be. The raucous alerted the other agents in the hall who turned their heads in the direction of the noise. They began to make their way towards you. Loki acted quickly, lifting his cuffed hands above your head and looping his arm around your waist, pulling you to the other side of the hall.
“Are you ready?” he asked, backing up slightly like he was readying himself for a leap. Loki didn’t wait for your answer and ran straight towards the open door across from him. You saw a small glimpse of a grassy field before hitting solid ground.
“Why did you do that!?” You whipped your head up, your hair strewn about your face in a wild mess. Your ill-fitting clothes were now caked in dirt and grass stains. You stood on a hill overlooking a… rather familiar landscape.
“I saved your life. Again!” He pointed an accusatory finger at you, but the effort was lost with his bound hands. He grunted in frustration.
“I-I wanted to go. I didn’t want to be saved!”
Loki took in a hot breath. “You wouldn’t have seen him anyway. Valhalla is a heaven for warriors and your valiant death wouldn’t have given you an in.”
That you laughed at, if not bitterly. “You always said you’d go to Hel. I intended on seeing you there.”
“I am not your husband,” Loki spat, venom lining his words.
“No! You’re not. Yet you’ve kept me from him,” you said matching the malice in his voice.
Two voices interrupted your argument.
“Goddess, you will ruin me one day.” A young boy with inky hair ran up on the other side of the hill, holding a posy of flowers. He looked down the hill and knelt down, reaching his hand out. An equally tiny hand held onto his hand, letting him pull up. A girl pushed up and sat on the peak of the hill. He awkwardly shoved the flowers in her hands, like he’d been holding them for her when they climbed up the mound of dirt and grass.
“My mother says you’re dangerous, Trickster,” the girl taunted, reorganizing the flowers in a prettier arrangement. “Like the Midgard Serpent. You’ll strike when we least expect it.”
“Perhaps I’ll marry you. Your mother surely wouldn’t expect that,” the boy smirked. The girl pretended to attack her friend, attempting to make him jump. She wasn’t strong enough to knock him down though, and he snickered. He pushed her playfully, but she slipped and rolled down the hill, giggling the entire way down. The boy hopped down, rolling and laughing along with her.
“Oh Valhalla…” You paled.
“What?” Loki prodded. Watching the children at the bottom of the hill.
“We have to hide. Now.”
Loki was about to prompt her for an explanation, but the little girl’s playful wail answered his questions instantly.
“Loki!”
Improvising
Tumblr media
TITLE: Improvising CHAPTER NUMBER/ONE SHOT: One shot WHICH TOM CHARACTER: Actor Tom PAIRING: Tom Hiddleston/Reader GENRE: Romance sort of INSPIRATION: Hank Williams answers and Loki answers REQUEST: Tom Hiddleston x (non actress) reader where reader is a vlogger who does song covers and has a friend who does interviews, and is able to get a chance to interview Tom, but for some reason was unable to do so on the scheduled date due to some emergency and asked reader to do it,but left questions that reader thinks might be inappropriate to Tom so she improvises and thought of more sensible questions which piqued Tom's interest specially when he finds out of the questions that was prepared for him?
Improvising
You found yourself standing there in the hotel lobby waiting for Tom Hiddleston himself. Your friend, who was supposed to do the interview, got sick and for that reason couldn’t do the interview. So you had gotten called in just over an hour ago, and had no time to prepare. You trusted your friend to have everything ready for the interview, but as you stood there, skimming through the questions, your heart nearly stopped. Was this some sort of a joke? You couldn’t possibly ask him about those kinds of things without sinking through the floor in shame. With a rousing sense of panic, you went through the papers, trying to find the real questions or anything of substance, but you ended up empty handed. You almost felt like crying as you glanced down at your watch, realising that there was only five minutes left until your scheduled meeting. You rummaged through your purse for a pen and a paper and was just about to start writing new questions when the subject of the interview suddenly appeared in the lobby.
“Umm, excuse me mister Hiddleston, are you here for the interview? I mean, of course you are...” you greeted him nervously as he approached you with a warm smile.
“Hi, you must be Riley. Please, feel free to call me Tom,” Tom replied as he shook your hand.
“Actually, Riley is sick, so I’m standing in for her,” you informed him with a shy smile.
“Ah, I see. What’s your name then?” Tom asked with interest as he still held your hand in his.
“[Your name],” you replied.
“Nice to meet you, [your name],” Tom said with a smile
“It’s very nice to meet you too, Tom,” you replied blushingly, feeling a bit strange as you spoke his name so familiarly. “This way,” you added and led him to the room in which the interview was to be held. You both sat down on the chairs in front of the camera as soon as Tom had politely introduced himself to the man behind the camera and the man in control of the microphone hovering over your heads just out of line of sight for the camera.
“Are you ready?” the cameraman asked to which Tom answered ‘yes’ and you answered a truthful ‘not really’.
“I’m sorry,” you apologised flusteredly. “I’m ready.”
“Camera rolling,” the cameraman announced and you could feel yourself grow pale. You nervously glanced down at the papers, but quickly looked away as you struggled not to grimace at the questions on there.
“I’m sitting here with Tom Hiddleston. Welcome to the R and R show, Tom,” you said, grateful that you at least got the name of the show right. At least that was something.
“Thanks for having me,” Tom replied politely.
“The pleasure is all ours,” you said with a smile. “So, Tom… I personally think you really did a great job portraying Hank Williams in I Saw the Light.”
“Thank you, I really appreciate it,” Tom said and smiled at you. You couldn’t help but get caught up in his beautiful blue eyes as he looked at you.
“Um… One thing I found particularly interesting in the movie was the moment when Hank said that everybody has a little darkness inside of them, that he showed it to them and they heard it, but they didn’t have to take it home with them. I was wondering if you would like to elaborate what you think Hank Williams’s darkness consisted of,” you said as you mentally cursed your friend for not having come up with better questions herself so you wouldn’t have to improvise like this.
“Interesting question,” Tom commended and touched his chin thoughtfully before answering. “Ehm, as is well-known, Hank struggled with alcohol and drug addiction, and I suppose you could say that it’s a way of how the darkness portrayed itself. But what exactly this darkness consisted of is difficult to say. In the scene you’re referring to, Hank mentions anger, sorrow and shame. But I think it’s more complicated than just that when it comes to Hank. I think there was something in him that was addicted to the darkness and that it somehow felt more real to him than anything else. I think part of his darkness was his very addiction to it. Do I make any sense?”
“I think so...” you replied and decided to elaborate. “The attraction to the darkness itself was part of his darkness. His unwillingness to let go of it made it darker... Like staying in a dark corner of a room instead of coming out into the light.”
“Exactly,” Tom agreed and his face lit up as he looked at you. “It was like Hank felt more comfortable in his dark corner than out in the light. And I think as he went into the vortex of addiction, into the darkness, he couldn’t stay sober for long enough to see clearly, to come out into the light and see how many people actually cared about him.”
“That’s tragic,” was your instinctive response.
“It is,” Tom agreed.
“Hank Williams isn’t the only character with darkness inside of him that you’ve played... I think you could say that Adam in Only Lovers Left Alive had a bit of darkness inside of him as well. Ehm… would you say that there are any similarities between Adam and Hank?” you asked, trying not to grimace at how far fetched your question felt.
“Interesting question,” Tom said again, causing you to blush. It made you glad to hear that he found your questions interesting, seeing as you got them at the top of your head. “Well, while Adam is obviously fictional and a vampire, I think there are similarities between him and Hank. They are both musicians,” he said grabbing his index finger as he began to count the similarities between the two characters. “They both have a darkness inside of them, like you said yourself,” he told you and grabbed his long finger as well. “They both seem lonely even though they have people around them who care…” he said and grabbed a third finger. “There are probably more things they have in common...”
“Well, how about the differences between Adam and Hank?” you asked.
“Adam is fictional whereas Hank is real. Adam’s a vampire and Hank is human. While Adam had a long life, Hank’s life was tragically short. He died of heart failure at only twenty nine years of age. He was one of those stars that shine brightly but burn out quickly, while Adam is more of a slow burning star,” Tom replied and you found yourself nodding in agreement at his answers.
“Yes... Another character with a long lifespan is the god of mischief himself. Loki. I heard you were working on a Loki TV show, is there anything you could tell us about that?” you asked curiously.
"Well, the series starts right after Loki grabs the tesseract in Avengers: Endgame. It'll be six hours of air time and it will be released on Disney plus in 2021. Sorry I can't tell you much more than that at this point," Tom said.
"That's alright. So we have six more hours of Loki to look forward to, that's great. How did you feel about revisiting the part? You've been playing him for quite some years now," you wondered.
"I've been playing him for ten years now and I really enjoyed revisiting the role as Loki. I feel like I know this character now, and the audience knows him. The most exciting aspect of playing him is to present him with new challenges, which change him in different ways," Tom replied, seemingly happy to talk about Loki.
The cameraman motioned for you to wrap up the interview, leaving you disappointed that your meeting with Tom was already coming to an end.
"I really look forward to seeing what new challenges Loki's up against. Unfortunately it seems our time is up. Thank you so much Tom Hiddleston for coming here and joining us on the R and R show," you said, genuinely grateful to actually meet him in person.
"Thanks for having me," Tom told you, his smile making your heart skip a beat.
"Cut," said the cameraman.
"Thank you for saving me with your interesting answers," you told Tom once the camera was off.
"Saving you?" he asked surprisedly. "I hardly think you needed saving, you did great with the questions," he commended.
"You really think so?" you said, feeling relieved as he nodded his head ‘yes’ in response. "Thank you. I was not at all prepared for this, so I had to improvise," you admitted.
"You improvised? Then you're a natural at this," he praised, seemingly impressed. "Didn't your friend prepare the questions?"
"In all honesty, her questions were not up to standard. Some were downright dreadful," you said truthfully.
"Really? Dreadful you say?" he asked interestedly. "Would you let me see her questions?" Tom requested curiously and you reluctantly handed them over to him while blushing, as though you were somehow responsible for them.
"Oh," he uttered understandingly as he skimmed through the questions about James Bond, Taylor Swift, what type of women he preferred and if he was feeling lonely now that he was single. "Thank you for not asking me about all this," he said with relief and kept reading the questions, grimacing at some and laughing at others.
"If your friend was seriously going to ask me those questions, I'm almost glad she was sick," Tom said jokingly, causing you to laugh. "It not just because I wish to avoid another awkward interview, but because it was a real delight to be interviewed by you."
"Oh, thank you," you said feeling flattered. "I found it really nice talking to you too."
“I still have some time left before my next interview, if you would like to grab a cup of coffee,” Tom offered.
“I would love to,” you answered, barely able to contain your excitement.
You continued talking to each other about different kinds of things. This time it was almost as though he was interviewing you, asking about your life. When he found out that you had a vlog where you posted song covers his face lit up.
"I'll make sure to check it out," he promised and pulled out his phone to write down the name of your vlog.
When it was time to finally part, Tom added, "feel free to contact me if you want to grab another coffee or something. It was really nice talking to you, [your name]." He handed you a piece of paper with what appeared to be his phone number on it before leaving. You stood there dumbfounded for a moment. Then you smiled to yourself thinking that sometimes improvising really pays off. You had never expected that you would be so glad that your friend had come down with a cold.
Inverted Mobius, Mr. Tesseract and The Avatar of Truth
The mystery of the weird collar has deepened, thanks to @nebulousfishgills - by which I mean they totally solved it.
To those just joining me, I noticed this in my previous breakdown of the Loki trailer here.
Mr. Mobius, played by Owen Wilson, has an ‘inverted suit’. His collar is an indentation in his suit, rather than going on top of it.
Tumblr media
So, first, a scene from Endgame that I seriously did think of when we learned there was a character called ‘Mobius M. Mobius’ in Loki (played by Owen Wilson). And yet I didn’t put this together. Thanks again to nebulousfish for making me realize that these things might not be coincidences.
When Mr. Stark is inventing time travel, he asks his AI to create a depiction of a Mobius Strip, inverted.
Tumblr media
Which gets him this:
Tumblr media
Anyway, what is a Mobius Strip, and who is Mobius M. Mobius? (Not to be confused with Morbius the Living Vampire, though wouldn’t it be funny if he was mistaken for Mobius M. if this show gets big first?)
I am not a quantum theorist or comic book aficionado by trade, so let’s do a Wikipedia-Fu on it.
Tumblr media
In mathematics, a Möbius strip, band, or loop (US: /ˈmoʊbiəs, ˈmeɪ-/ MOH-bee-əs, MAY-, UK: /ˈmɜːbiəs/;[1]German: [ˈmøːbi̯ʊs]), also spelled Mobius or Moebius, is a surface with only one side (when embedded in three-dimensional Euclidean space) and only one boundary curve. The Möbius strip is the simplest non-orientable surface.
An example of a Möbius strip can be created by taking a strip of paper and giving one end a half-twist, then joining the ends to form a loop; its boundary is a simple closed curve which can be traced by a single unknotted string. Any topological space homeomorphic to this example is also called a Möbius strip, allowing for a very wide variety of geometric realizations as surfaces with a definite size and shape. For example, any rectangle can be glued left-edge to right-edge with a reversal of orientation. Some, but not all, of these can be smoothly modeled as surfaces in Euclidean space. A closely related, but not homeomorphic, surface is the complete open Möbius band, a boundaryless surface in which the width of the strip is extended infinitely to become a Euclidean line.A half-twist clockwise gives an embedding of the Möbius strip which cannot be moved or stretched to give the half-twist counterclockwise; thus, a Möbius strip embedded in Euclidean space is a chiral object with right- or left-handedness. The Möbius strip can also be embedded by twisting the strip any odd number of times, or by knotting and twisting the strip before joining its ends.
A Möbius strip does not self-intersect but its projection in 2 dimensions does.
Uh....right. Well, that clears everything up, doesn’t it?
Let’s crib off someone else’s work. Thanks to Thomas Wong on Medium, I was able to understand this a little better.
A Möbius strip is just a strip of paper, turned and taped together. It it only has one side, so an ant walking along the strip eventually returns to where he started. If we metaphorically interpret the ant, not as returning to a point in space, but a point in time, then it alludes to time travel.
...
As previously discussed, after a measurement, the quantum mixture (half born and half never born) becomes a definite state (born or never born). Finding the “spectral decomposition” is to find all the possible energies (eigenvalues) and states. Using these, one can determine how a quantum object evolves with time.
Combining this with the metaphoric interpretation of the Möbius strip, it could be that Stark found how to make quantum objects evolve such that they revisit a point in time, hence time travel.
Okay, that’s a little easier to understand. So how does this relate to the character Mobius M. Mobius, aside from him being named after the strip and the (apparently antiquated) ideas about time travel?
Tumblr media
Well, he was based on Marvel Comics Legend Mark Gruenwald, a guy known for his passion for the lore of the comics, which he knew in innate detail. He even wrote the Official Handbooks and whatnot. Likewise, Mr. Mobius is a stickler for detail and one of the few members of the TVA even allowed a face - although it is off the rack, as he’s one an infinite number of clones (god I love the TVA so much already, it’s heaven for a Douglas Addams fan like me).
Despite being a clone, he rose through the ranks and is nearly the top guy, serving only underneath Mr. Alternity (and I am not familiar with these comics so feel free to correct me). Mr. Alternity has almost no comics history, but is based on editor Tom Brevoort.
Tumblr media
There are several other misters, all of them near-identical to ‘Moby’. Mr. Orobourous, Mr. Paradox, Mr. Tesseract (!) and Mr. Oburos. They are also minor characters, but let’s look at all these names.
Clearly they are named after quantum theories of some-sort or another.
Mr. Mobius: Mobius Strip Theory - the idea that, essentially, is about the shape of time itself and the theory of traveling along that shape.
Mr. Alternity : Alternative universes
Mr. Ouroboros: A divine figure representing the beginning and the end of time in an endless cycle of death and rebirth.
Mr. Oburos - I’m not sure, but I think this is a variant of Ouroboros.
Mr. Paradox - Temporal paradox, causal loops - ex. The Grandfather Paradox
Mr. Tesseract - An object that exists in 4 dimensions. Time is often called the fourth dimension.
Obviously that last one is interesting, considering how the Tesseract will be the start of our adventure. The Cosmic Cube was renamed for the MCU, and in the comics has no relation to this minor character.
But what if it now does?
What if Tony has caused a change in the very appearance of Mr. Mobius when he inverted the Mobius Strip - literally inverting his clothing because he changed the shape of the Mobius - does that mean that these seemingly human-looking misters are in fact some sort of avatars for aspects of time itself? And if Mr. Tesseract is representative of how space and time intersect in the fourth dimension, wouldn’t a rogue god twisting space and time with the device that shares his name cause him some affect? Perhaps why the TVA noticed something was amiss to begin with.
This would be a departure from the comics, but the characters have almost no history there. They are ripe for new ideas.
Or, then again, since Loki will be working for the TVA - perhaps he’s the one who becomes ‘Mr. Tesseract’?
But continuing with that ‘Avatar of Aspects’ idea, let’s get away from this sausagefest for a second and visit my next newest favourite character -
Tumblr media
I’m guessing she’s one of the Justices of the TVA. What gives it away? The imperious look, the giant oaken table, or the fact that I’m suddenly self-conscious when she looks at me? It’s the last one, of course. She’s a natural judge.
Of the named TVA judges, there’s :
Justice Goodwill, Justice Hope, Justice Liberty, Justice Love, Justice Might, Justice Mills, Justice Peace and Justice Truth.
Could they also possibly be avatars of their respective aspects?
If I had to guess, I’d say this is Justice Truth, as pairing up Loki with an avatar of Truth seems like it’d be a smashing good time, similar to how he was paired with Verity Willis in the comics. She might even be a composite character with Verity.
Verity’s power is detecting and seeing through all lies and illusions. I think this powerset will be given to Justice Truth, except instead of deriving it from a magic ring that she swallowed, she’d simply be the actual ‘Embodiment of Truth’ - and let’s get real here, when I said ‘Avatars of Aspects’, I was using that clunky phrase because the more obvious one - God of - is already ‘taken’. So Justice Truth may well be the ‘God of Truth’, as it were.
I think she’ll end up in something of a buddy-comedy with Loki, giving him someone to bounce off against who literally cuts through his carefully crafted veneer.
I’m reminded of a great quote from Taika Waititi when he was talking about what he wanted to do with Loki in Ragnarok:
“(He’s) someone who tries so hard to embody this idea of the tortured artist, this tortured, gothy orphan...It’s too tiring trying to be like that,” he says. “And, most humans, we get over ourselves, we get to that point where we’re like, ‘man, being a tortured artist is actually, like, a lot of work. Maybe I should just be real and present, and just be me, and I don’t have to be a tortured artist to be interesting, I can just be a f*cking weird New Zealander and that’s enough.”
...I think Taika is a living Loki, tbh, ha ha. No wonder he gets it.
Tumblr media
Waititi, Yost, Pearson and Kyle did great work to cut through Loki’s illusions, both with dialogue and the visual allegory of his projections being dispelled by handy thrown objects, culminating in the very sweet ‘I’m here,’ scene at the end of the film. Loki seems to be much more open and expressive at the end of that film, and it seems like a weight has lifted off his shoulders.
But while this new Loki (Loki 2.0? Loki’s Show’s Loki? Loki II? Lokii? Lokii.) is shown a clip show of Ragnarok (one I previously theorized will be deliberately incomplete), that’s quite different from actually experiencing it, and he’ll be as performative as he was in Avengers and Thor 2. Instead of processing that ‘lack of presence’ as he did in Ragnarok, which came about as a result of Thor finally seeing through Loki’s illusions (guess he doesn’t fall for it anymore) as a result of their long history together, I suspect the band-aid will be torn off much more harshly by a total stranger who nonetheless simply sees through him.
Loki in general has a bad relationship with the truth (see the famous Vault Confrontation scene), and literally putting him on trial before the Truth Herself would certainly be enough to get him to switch from this phony expression:
Tumblr media
To this one:
Tumblr media
That’s not much of a facade there.
It’s not the same character arc as Ragnarok, but it does get us to a similar place, albeit in a darker and less healing way for Loki. I mean Lokii.
Anyhow. That’s what I got out of this thing.
