This is a painting of my Grandad completed in oil paint. Back in the 1970s Grandad decided he needed more hobbies so that he wouldn鈥檛 be bored once he retired. He found a class teaching beekeeping in the local newspaper and began attending. He learnt how to keep bees and, with help from my dad, began to build a thriving apiary. He soon found himself going on European trips to widen his knowledge of beekeeping before holding many positions in the Taunton and Somerset beekeeping Associations. He was also very good at art and taught me how to draw and paint from a very young age. When I started full time education in art, he would often claim a piece couldn鈥檛 be done. Then an hour later would phone up to say he鈥檇 thought about it and decided it was a good idea and we should try it. Sadly, my Grandad died at the end of January and while looking at some old photos I found a photo of him beekeeping and thought it would make a great painting. We have decided to ask for donations to go towards research into European Foul Brood, a honey bee disease that affects their larvae that can weaken and kill colonies. We are hoping that this will help to save the bees. To donate please follow the link in the post.

A corroding pocket watch. I have added my own idea of bees fixing the time with drawings of honeycomb, they then showed me how it was done and built some of their own. Acrylic and pencil

After replacing sand with honey in an hour glass I have now created a timer showing the life of bees. As honey slowly drips through the hour glass, the bee population is decreasing. Can we flip the hour glass before they are all gone completely? If we work with them then bees won鈥檛 die out, but if we ignore the problem there will be nothing to stop the timer from running out. Save the Bees!!
