i just finished percy jackson and it was cool. but it made me realize how badly i want fantasy stories with 20+ year olds. not 12 year olds. not 16 year olds. 20 year olds. people my age, who are still figuring their life out despite being an adult.

This probably isn’t a new idea but one problem I’ve always had with Grimdark is that it makes everything feel less angsty.

If everyone is awful all the time why should we feel bad when someone who is slightly less bad gets hurt?

#screaming into the void #not to say everything grimdark is awful or that people can't enjoy it #I just don't see the appeal in things like walking dead #or game of thrones #where seemingly the best outcome is for the least shitty person or group of people to come out on top #i get more emotional impact from kids cartoons #which are often a lot more lighthearted #so it hurts way worse when they pull out something like a traumatic backstory
