Confused about this...

Over 2 years ago I applied to multiple positions within a hospital to get my foot in the door with them. Instead, I got a job at a medical billing facility (what I wanted to do anyway) and have been incredibly happy there.

For SOME REASON, just this past week I've gotten a bunch of rejection letters from the hospital. Like, thanks for the notice I didn't get the job???? 🤣🤣 I didn't even remember applying for some of those positions as it was so long ago.

Why even bother telling me I didn't get it at this point? It's been TWO YEARS! Somehow, it feels worse to get a rejection letter this late than to have not gotten one at all. Did someone just go through all the applications kept on file within this one week??? Does anyone here know what could have happened? It's so weird.

As if a commercial is going to make anyone forget they serve blood coffee.

I'm honestly not surprised. This is a sign of desperation and it's absolutely appalling. Although this varies contextually, we see this in retail companies across the industries with their 'promised efforts' to 'hire more diversely' without tackling their prejudiced store management and staff and having genuine conversations/actual workshops to address the importance of inclusivity/to unlearn their bigotry and confirmation biases because many Black, Brown, Indigenous, and many more folks have been historically and currently are marginalized and disadvantaged by governments and structures when it comes to work opportunities and career advancements in multiple fields because of racist and xenophobic systems (and the many interconnections of their lived experiences as well).

These companies just want to 'appear' better without making real systemic changes -and it's beyond disturbing.

I worked at a previous company for 3 years, and I didn't sign any NDA's, so sometimes I feel like being more public about what I and many people personally went through -but a majority of their store managers were white women (mostly under 35) and I kid you not -blond as well (there were like 3 women in total from East Asian, and Southeast Asian decents of the 100 or so they had). When later management came at the CEO level (before I left), they had workshops for 'hiring' and a majority of the store managers in my district at the time openly admitted to not calling back names they could 'not pronounce' (among many other aspects). I have a handful of stories that still disgust me to this day, but it happens everywhere and it's disgusting.

So yes, Starbucks is no different (and many thanks for sending this to me, so that other folks can see how nefarious and shameless they continue to be). I always say the companies that appear to be the most friendly/lovely/and family-like are usually the most toxic and riddled with micro-management and prejudices. Yes, there are exceptions, but I have heard so many people (Baristas, specifically -not those in upper management because they have good benefits and hours -will leave because it's too much for them, or they have been through incidents of harassment or bullying and are not supported). Needless to say, never forget how rotten Starbucks is, and be wary of companies you buy from regardless. I think this is an important reminder that there is NO ethical consumption under capitalism, but we can do our best to support businesses that are not part of this huge network that aligns with genocidal and oppressive regimes.

FU Starbucks -and keep boycotting ya'll. I also wanted to show this article I saw the other day -this further reinforces how desperate they are trying to make it seem like they're 'actually a good business.' with 'good intentions,' and it's just absolutely horrifying how people and companies will say they condemn terrorism, while supporting the IOF, who is responsible for mass genociding and killing 20,000+ Palestinian people...

Oh! Fantastic new business practice idea! Every time corporate sends over a new floor plan for one of their stores, the person who designed the floor plan and the person who ordered the floor plan design get to have their offices redecorated (including wall colour) and desks reorganized by a random person off the street with no input from them, and then aren’t allowed to change the new decorations or desk organization until another new floor plan is made! It’ll be a fun team bonding activity between the higher ups and lower downs, and help corporate understand the true advantages and joys of change! <3

(Me? Salty about how often businesses change their floor plans both from the POV of a customer trying to find stuff and as an employee having to make the changes and also find stuff? Noooooo, whatever gave you that idea? <3)

EDIT: This goes deeper than I thought. The city of Davenport is hurrying to demolish the building even though there are still missing residents and they literally just found a still-living woman in the rubble who would have certainly been killed if the demolition went forward. There are currently protestors raising hell in Davenport about this.

This is disgusting and suspicious as hell. I'm seeing Davenport residents talk about how the politicians of their town are corrupt and are likely trying to cover this incident up while not caring if they end up killing people in the process (because, again according to residents, Davenport's infrastructure has been falling apart for many years).

When the chip readers for credit cards first started rolling out at the place I worked, there was a glitch where if the customer took the card out before it was done, the entire register system would freeze. I always, ALWAYS, told the customers “Put your chip in and don’t take it out until you hear the machine beep, otherwise it could freeze the system and we will have to start the transaction over/wait/etc.” We also only had three check-out registers, and two customer service registers.

Gentleman comes up to purchase his electronic. Puts chip in. I explain the way I always do. He takes the card out before it’s done. System freeze. He apologizes, and I reiterate that if he takes his card out before it’s fine the system will freeze. We move to another register while the first one reboots. He puts his card in. I tell him again not to take it out till it beeps. Again, he takes it out before. Second register is now frozen and has to reboot. When we moved to the third register, I asked him to hand me the card so I could perform the transaction myself. Idk if he was being malicious with his incompetence but he got REALLY pissy when I told him not to touch his card and that I would take it out for him. He asked for a manager. When the manager came over he literally told the customer “You’ve cause two registers to be down because you didn’t listen to instructions. I’m sorry but what else did you expect?”

One of the rare moments where management took my side.

It took two weeks (after graduating and moving back home) for me to become incredibly depressed. Progress I suppose bc when I came home from thanksgiving I cried for 3 hours night one loll

#i just feel so unvalued I guess when I was in college I went to a ‘good’ school #and had social justice projects to work on and classes to attend and things I was proud of #and then I went to a retail interview the other day and they looked at all the social justice experience on my resume #and they were like you don’t have any job experience then?#when all of those projects were essentially unpaid labor and were all professional experience #and they made me feel awful bc I spent my whole year learning to make resumes and got yelled at bc I didn’t put my silly food service job #that I worked at for a month 2 years ago #like I know I have worth and skills and that I’m very capable but none of that ever gets recognized #bc I can’t fit into a little neurotypical white supremacist box and I’m so sick of it at this point #and I miss my partner I just want to see him but he’s 400 miles away #personal
