hi. does talking to your friends feel like a chore? does expressing affection to your loved ones scare the shit out of you? does the mere reality that people love you and want to be connected to you feel like a burden? you just might feel like you're putting on a performance! i mean, it's not like you really know who you are, right? after all, you're only doing what you've always known: hoping to find yourself through the reflection of others; hoping to gain love through convenience.

this act you play, it's tiring, isn't it? performing by the script that you've learned—well, the script you think will work. it's not like anything written is very original; everything written is stroked with the dark ink of your past, and penned by what other people seem to think is okay. you haven't really written anything yourself. whenever you do, it just feels like something goes wrong, perhaps you've hurt many people by trying to do so (including yourself).

so you play by this heavily edited script, and works! they like you, and you really like them. okay, so... now what? the script has ended; the play is over. alright, so know you think, well, they don't like me. they only like this script, this script i haven't even put myself into. this script only really contains the shards of other people, and is glued together with my faults and fears.

at this point, it feels like you're only reflecting whatever energy they're giving out to you. if they say they love you, you say it back. if they love the feeling of the autumn wind and the color brown, it's everything to you. they fill the husk of you with all of themselves to the point where you overflow. hey—hey. do you know who you are anymore?

your heart of gold is surrounded by many mirrors; you might have placed them there yourself, or maybe not. but you get to a point where this act and this echoing becomes exhausting. it's all you do, and it's really all you've ever known. it's not really others that feel like a burden, but yourself. you take your mirror and reflect, reflect, reflect. you try to turn it on yourself; you see nothing but your shadow, placed right behind where you should be.

look at me. i'm holding your hands and looking into your exhausted, yearning eyes. this hatred you feel for yourself, this rage... this feeling isn't shared by your friends or loved ones. i don't know how long you haven't known yourself, and i know you feel like you should want and need and love and hate certain things. these "shoulds" came from a place of abusive and trauma, and if it didn't come from other people, it probably came from yourself. so, please be gentle on yourself.

one day the brick walls you guard yourself with and the mirrors you use to reflect, they won't cause you harm anymore. it won't all go away all at once, but with time, you'll find yourself. it all won't feel so difficult, and things won't feel so scary. i love you, alright?

Watching videos of Ascended Astarion and I need to give props to Neil for delivering the lines in a way that they still sound like Astarion's voice but something is off. Like something is deeply wrong. It makes me both really sad and viscerally uncomfortable.

And I also can't imagine how Ascendant apologists can hear all that, even just his regular, non-romance lines, and still hear Astarion. Maybe very early game Astarion, at best? But like ... girlies that is not him anymore. That is not Act 2 Astarion. That is something else.

just wanted to share something that's helping me with the motivation to keep living and keep showing up even when there are bad days. i have read things like "love radically", "live intensely" and i always tied my 'why' to keep on thriving to the people that i love.

be healthy so that you can take care of others, hit that financial milestone so that i can spoil my friends, break that bad habit so that i can have more good times with my people.

i never had a dream big enough that is entirely focused on me to keep on giving my everything, especially the years where i was really struggling with self hatred. this is not doing something to seek the validation of these said people, but to just love, just to see them exist and see them happy and show up on their bad days. i don't want to be a half-lover. i love my people with the kind of adorable arrogance you get when you see a cat to just cuddle them. yeah maybe some are temporary and there might be bittersweet falling apart, but right now in this moment i want to be able to be someone who shows up. and idk if this will make sense to others, but i just wanted to post here.

Just in case you need to hear this:

It's okay to have to start over and try again.

At eighteen I learned java, html, css-- I was in an advanced online highschool program (that I paid for) with a 4.0 GPA. I worked 30-40 hours a week, was in the gym daily, had smoothies every morning and actively studied Korean. I was determined to rebuild my life and get on track.

And now, at twenty three, I am back to square one. My Korean skills are lackluster, I forgot everything I once knew about Java, and I couldn't afford to pay for highschool.

Instead of trying to rebuild everything in my life that crumbled in the years between, I am starting fresh. I am building something new and trying again.

It's okay to try again.

I love Steph's origin as told in the Secret Origins 80 page giant- I just overall think it strengthens her character by giving her a lot of pathos and adding to her heroism (which isn't something writers were focused on in her actual intro in detective comics #647 since she was just meant to act as a plot device back then) BUT there is one tiny detail in it i will begrudge, and that is the portrayal of her having a minor love at first sight moment for tim

Mostly because Stephanie showed no interest in her introduction and only showed romantic feelings towards Tim AFTER this moment here:

Straight up the progression here goes:

The adventure in 'tec where they first meet -> Tim investigating the same crime scene as Steph -> she beats him up not knowing it's him at first, apologizes but says he shouldn't have scared her -> he remembers her/the moniker she goes by -> they talk about plot for a few pages -> Stephanie starts flirting

Which...is so fascinating to me and says so much about Stephanie. She highlights the fact that Tim "remembered" her. Like. Steph. Girl. This is our bar? It's sweet but kind of speaks to how much Stephanie is ignored at home/how little and sporadically she's shown interacting with her peers (and rarely ever the same kids twice). Her idea of peak romance is just...being on someone's mind even when you're not there.

Kind of also adds layers to Steph's proclivity towards jealousy later on, a manifestation of her insecurity and loneliness (though don't get it twisted, she's not written this way bc Dixon and co think it's an interesting character flaw, they wrote it bc they think it's an inherent character flaw of (particularly young) women/girls, which is very apparent in how he approaches Ariana's character as well from what I've read)

Also the fact that Steph becomes so smitten for Tim almost immediately after this is (a few issues later she aggressively flirts with him during AN ACTIVE HOSTAGE SITUATION. WHERE SHE'S THE HOSTAGE) again is kind of a mixture of kind of funny and sad. One boy is nice to her once and she's fully ready to wife him. Girl you are deranged (affectionate) (concerned)

Yan! Trey who surely but slowly worms his way into your life by being a reliable friend/senior that you can count on! Need help with homework? Need something sweet to munch on? Trey got you!

He especially loves spoiling you with desserts, specifically those he made himself! Sometimes Trey might spend hours upon hours in the kitchen, trying to bake the perfect cake for special days! If you are still not convinced, Trey can change that. He might start becoming abit more present in your school and personal life, inviting you to bake with him in the kitchen and maybe bond over a shared interest.

Trey may seem harmless, but it is not a wise choice to underestimate him.
