A Swimsuits Appeal
Ruby: Whoo! Let’s hit the pool everyone!
Yang: Lets go!
Nora: Cannonball!
(SPASH!)
Nora: Ahhaha! How was that, Ren?
Ren: Quite impressive, Nora. But, do that at the deeper end next time.
Nora: Okay!
Blake: It was nice of, Miss Schnee to let us use her indoor pool.
Jaune: I’ll say, it gives us all a well needed chance to relax.
Blake: Speaking of, Schnee’s, where is, Weiss?
Jaune: Still getting changed I guess?
Weiss: You are quite right, Jaune.
Jaune: Hey, Weiss are you… ready…?
Weiss: I’m ready. Going in for a swim sounds so refreshing after all we have been doing lately, don’t you agree, Winter?
Winter: A swim sounds nice, and all, but I am more looking forward to sinking myself into the jacuzzi later. Oh hi, Jaune~!
Jaune: H-Hi, Winter. You look nice…
Winter: Oh, why thank you, Jaune. We got our new swimsuits after we went on a family shopping trip.
Jaune: Family?
Willow: Well, since you were going swimming, I thought I might as well join in on the fun. Although, I too am looking forward to relaxing in the jacuzzi more than swimming. Are you planning on joining us, Jaune?
Jaune: I-In the jacuzzi?
Willow: Yes, in the jacuzzi~!
Jaune: S-S-Sure! I’m looking forward to it.
Willow: Marvellous~!
Winter: I’m looking forward to it.
Weiss: See you in the pool, Jaune.
Jaune: Y-Yeah… Oh, and ladies!
Willow: Yes, Jaune~?
Jaune: Your swimsuits… T-They look quite fetching on you… On all of you
Tumblr media
Willow: Oh… Why thank you, Jaune.
Winter: Told you one pieces were my style.
Weiss: I never denied that.
Winter: Yes you did.
Weiss: No I didn’t!
Jaune: …
Blake: …
Jaune: Fuuuuuuck! They look so damn hot!
Blake: They look nice, but I wouldn’t say the look hot. I think I look far more fetching in my bikini~!
Jaune: Ahh, Blake… You, and your unsophisticated plebeian tastes.
Blake: Excuse me?
Jaune: Don’t you know that the one piece swimsuit is the ultimate expression in ladies swimwear to emphasize the raw sexual appeal of any woman?
Blake: I… What?
Jaune: You think a bikini is more sexy than a one piece, why is that?
Blake: Because it shows more skin.
Jaune: Is that it?
Blake: What more is there to it? The smaller bikini the more skin you get to see; seeing all a women has to offer right there in front of you. It’s like catching someone in their underwear, but your actually allowed to check them out~!
Jaune: Ahh! You have such a boorish taste. Something you no doubt got from those third rate porn books you described as high literature.
Blake: Excuse me?!
Jaune: You see, the one piece is superior because of one simple fact: It hides everything, but hints towards everything~!
Blake: W-What does that mean?
Jaune: You see a bikini shows off everything; you know what the subtleness of a woman’s curves are, you can clearly see how well endowed a woman, how well defined the fullness of a woman rear is. And if they wear an even smaller bikini you see more, but their is no beauty in such apparel that gets the blood boiling with desire, and unbridled lust. It is quite simple really, very boring, and only alluring to those with such simplistic pallets such as yourself.
Blake: Then why is a one piece better then, you can’t see anything?!
Jaune: True, there is nothing really to see, but with the mind there is everything to see!
Blake: Meaning?
Jaune: As I said, in a bikini you see everything a woman has to offer in a bikini, but in a one piece it hints at everything she has to offer. It shows off how well endowed her bosom is, but since you can’t see her flesh precisely, your mind starts to wonder, and think of so many possibilities. Tell me; what do you think your mind starts to think about?
Blake: About how she looks without her one piece on. And, i-is her one piece holding them back, a-and making them look smaller… If so… H-How big is she actually…?
Jaune: Precisely, but there is more! They fully encompass her chest, so you get to see the shape of her chest, you know how big it appears to be. But, what is worse, it is that it is tight across her body. However, that makes it all the more tantalizing in the long run~!
Blake: How so?
Jaune: Look at, Yang, she’s wearing a bikini, and you can clearly see how well they bounce to, and fro don’t you?
Blake: They are… q-quite bouncy…
Jaune: Now, look at, Willow, do see such a heavy bounce in her full breasts?
Blake: N-No… They’re just there barely moving…
Jaune: But, what if they weren’t? What if they were bouncing about; would they look as good as, Yang’s, or even better?
Blake: T-They’re bigger, so…?
Jaune: Oh such dry, simple tastes you have, you will never experienced the many succulent flavours of a woman’s body at this rate.
Blake: Flavours of the body?
Jaune: Let’s move on shall we: Look at, Winter, do you see how her bodysuit so snuggly is wrapped around her waist?
Blake: Yes.
Jaune: Do you see how tight it appears around her wide hips of hers?
Blake: Yes…
Jaune: Doesn’t that make you want to run your hands down her body? To feel how it rises, and falls under your touch.
Blake: Y-Yes…
Jaune: So imagine your hands running higher up her body, tracing her succulent curves of her chest. To learn what it truly feels like to embrace a woman’s hour glass figure~!
Blake: Oh gods…
Jaune: Now look to, Weiss.
Blake: O-Okay…
Jaune: Notice how her swimsuit hugs her shapely rear, how it almost perfectly maps out her smooth curves.
Blake: Shapely…
Jaune: Don’t you want to just pull at the edge of her swimsuit, to let it go, and see how her butt ripples upon the impact. How the sound will echo within your ears. And, the moan that escapes her lips. Don’t want you to hear that?
Blake: Oh gods yes…
Jaune: Well, now that you understand how intoxicating a woman wearing a one piece can be, now imagine the best part.
Blake: T-There’s something better than what you’ve been describing…?!
Jaune: You’ve successfully imagined a woman wearing a one piece, now imagine them taking it off.
Blake: T-Taking it off…?
Jaune: When it comes to a flimsy bikini like yours, you just pull a couple of strings, and it falls to yhe ground, then you’ll go out it in like those third rate porn videos you like to pleasure yourself to.
Blake: How did you know that?!
Jaune: I didn’t, you just a basic bitch, so it’s not hard to assume what your interests on.
Blake: I-I’m not a basic bitch…
Jaune: I highly doubt that. Now, back to a lady in a one piece. When you take off her swimsuit, your arms will be across her body. Running up, and down her body as you press yourself against her. Feeling her body against you only being block by a thin piece of fabric. But, your hands have to run up her shoulders, to peel of the straps that have been stuck to her body. Then you pull them off revealing that succulent chest you have been fantasizing about, then you run your hands down her waist, peeling more of her swimsuit off, revealing more, and more of her succulent body in the bare flesh until it’s all gone. All the while your mind is running wild with the desire to kiss her all across her body. Passion runs you rampant as you crave to squeeze her body, to feel the softness of her skin upon your hands. Your body burning with lust to claim her as yours, and yours alone. Do you feel that, Blake, the desire, the lust, and the passion coursing through your body?
Blake: Yes~! Yes, I’m feeling it~!
Jaune: Then let’s do something about it~?
Blake: What do you recommend we do then~?
Jaune: This!
Blake: Wha?! Ahhh?!
(SPLASH!)
Yang: Haha! Nice one, Jaune!
Jaune: Thank you, thank you very much!
Blake: Bhaa! Why did you do that?!
Jaune: You looked like you needed to cool off.
Blake: You asshole!
Jaune: Maybe. Now if you’ll excuse me, some ladies require my attention. Tata~!
Blake: Grrrrrrrr!
Ruby: You okay, Blake?
Yang: Yeah, you look a little upset. Was it because, Jaune pushed you into the pool?
Blake: …
Blake: I should have bought a one piece swimsuit…
Yang: Eh?
Ruby: What?
Blake: I will have my revenge you stupid sexy blond! You hear me! I will have my revenge!
Ruby: What is she talking about?
Yang: Beats me.
Ruby: Okay then.

Winter: Your entire team is completely out of control! Even the most talented ones keep perpetrating mayhem!
Ren: Is this about that time Pyrrha got drunk in a Mantle dive bar and tried to flirt with Jaune by demonstrating how to tenderize an octopus using that Atlas robot?
Winter: Listening to that sentence was like having a stroke, but it supports my “out of control” statement.

A Special Mission
Written with permission from @juanarc-thethird

Late one evening, team RWBY were hiding in the bushes. They were waiting for Jaune, Nora, Ren, and Oscar to return from the Schnee Family’s estate; their goal - to cut a long introduction short - was to extort money from Weiss’ Father. He’d cut her allowance off again; as usual, without good reason, and was content not to restore it.
He’d cut Winter off as well - which everyone involved thought was strange, so the two sisters consulted together, and hatched a plan.
Time passed, and Weiss was getting more and more worried.
As far as she was concerned, they were taking too long.
“Do you really think they’re okay?” She asked for the umpteenth time,
“I’m sure they’re fine.” Ruby patted her shoulder, “I’ve been travelling with them for-like-ever now, they know what they’re doing.”
“I hope you’re right . . .” Weiss conceded, but she still felt uncomfortable,
“I’m more concerned about how this was all your idea.” Remarked Blake, “I know you don’t like your father, but I never thought you’d go so far as to blackmail him to fund our adventures.”
“Yeah, I’m with Blake on this one.” Put-in Yang, “We know how screwed up your family is, but this is pretty sick!”
“Yes . . . we’re a messy house.” Weiss agreed with a sigh, “But if he’s going to say that I’m not a member of the Schnee Family anymore, then he’ll get what’s coming to him.”
Just then, they all heard the sound of an approaching vehicle, and they poked their heads out to see.
A large, double-wide military van cruised along the road towards them; Ruby whipped Crescent Rose and peered through the scope. She could see Ren and Oscar in the front, while Nora, who popped her head out of the moonroof, turned around to wave at them.
Ren brought the van to a stop when he saw Ruby go out into the middle of the road.
“We’re back!” Shouted Nora, “Did we miss anything?!”
“Nope!” Yang popped the ‘p’, “Thing’s’re movin’ a mile-a-minute around here.”
“Sweet, ‘cuz have we got a lot to tell you all!” Nora vaulted herself from the roof of the van, and executed a perfect mid-air tumble.
She landed easily in front of them. Ren and Oscar just opened their doors and stepped out.
Ruby was excited.
“So how’d it go?” She asked, “Did you get the money?”
Nora’s winning smile faltered.
“Y- . . . yeah . . . about that . . .” She began, “We- uh . . . we didn’t . . . we didn’t get anything . . .”
“What?!” Weiss couldn’t believe it, “What was the point of this mission then? What happened?!”
“Look, it’s not our fault!” Nora insisted defensively, “He’s a horrible person! Now I get why you wanted to blackmail him so bad!”
“Well that makes three of us now.” Muttered Blake,
“Okay, tell us what happened from the start-” Yang tried,
“No, seriously, I can’t believe he’d be so ruthless!” But Nora wasn’t finished, “Like, everything he did to his own employees and family?! It’s terrifying! People like your father are the ones you have to stay away from!
“Nora!” Yang interrupted, “Just tell us what happened already!”
“Okay-okay-okay!” And Nora took a breath to calm down, “We just went there, and then we gave him the run-down, y’know, like: ‘pay us this much, and we’ll keep our mouths shut’, blah-blah-blah.”
“Uh-huh . . .” Nodded Ruby,
“Sounds about right.” Yang nodded as well,
“But then he kinda, sorta got angry . . .” Continued Nora, “so then I got cheesed . . .”
“. . . Okay . . .?” Weiss was growing concerned.
Nora raised her eyebrows and glanced away.
“And then . . . things kinda just . . . went from there . . .”
Team RWBY exchanged worried looks.
“You-” Weiss tried, “You didn’t threaten to break his legs, did you?”
Nora gasped dramatically.
“I am oh-ffended!” She exclaimed, putting a hand on her chest, “Of course, you know I totally did . . .”
“Alright, then did you actually break his legs?” Asked Blake,
“Of course I didn’t!” Nora looked even more offended, “What kind of violent woman do you take me for?!”
No one had an answer; secretly, Weiss was relieved to know Nora hadn’t gone that far.
“Well, thank the Gods for that.” She murmured,
“But we did kidnap his wife~!” Nora’s eyes lit up,
“You what?!” Weiss exclaimed,
“You did what?!” Yang's eyes popped open.
Nora giggled excitedly and meandered over to the back of the van. With a click, the doors opened, revealing a fine rump firmly straddling a well-known waist - the boots and pants stuck out from underneath her. A wet, sucking noise cut through the air from behind the seats.
Weiss was horrified.
“Mother!?” She shrieked,
“Oh shit!” Yang’s jaw hit the ground,
“Woah . . .” Blake was surprised,
“Yo . . . I didn’t know he could work it like that . . .” Ruby whispered.
Willow sat up and turned around when she realised someone had called her; now everyone could see how she looked.
Her hair was let down and dishevelled, flowing freely past her shoulders. She had taken off her blue jacket, and her blouse was open, but not enough to expose anything indecent, just the impossibly deep valley of her chest - which Weiss would only very quietly admit to being jealous of.
“Oh!” Willow brushed a few strands of hair away, “Hello Daughter. I didn’t realise we’d gotten here so soon, no one told me . . .”
“Too soon . . .” A familiar voice from near Willow cracked and sighed dreamily.
“Yeah sorry, Ma’am." Nora apologised, thoroughly unabashed, “Didn’t wanna interrupt the uh- y’know . . .”
She wiggled her eyebrows suggestively, but Willow just gave her a warm smile.
“Please, sweetheart.” She said, “Call me by my name. It’s really the least I can let you do, considering everything you’ve all done for me.”
“Please, don’t stop on our account.” Blake thought this was very funny.
Weiss found her voice again and addressed her issue calmly.
“Mother, why are you kissing . . . him?” It was very difficult for Weiss to ask without wanting to throw up in her own mouth.
Willow gave Weiss a perplexed look.
“I had to pass the time somehow, didn’t I?” She told her, as if it was the most obvious thing, “Besides, he’s actually quite charming. I’d have been a fool to stay back at the Manor and let this gorgeous, young man walk away.”
The familiar voice gasped like he’d just seen something amazing, and he sat up a little, just enough for the others to see the expression on his face. Jaune's lips seemed brighter in the low light, and his cheeks and chin were smeared with pink lipstick; a lonely mark stood proudly out on his forehead.
“You really think I'm gorgeous?” His smile looked hopeful.
Willow turned back to him, returning an all too tender smile, and gently stroked the underside of his cheek; her eyes twinkled in a sweet and unbridled way.
“Of course, Love.” Willow nodded.
Jaune flopped back down and giggled in such a giddy fashion, even kicking his feet like a little girl. Willow tittered along with him; it was so cute to her. Yang thought it was almost adorable.
‘Man, if only I didn't already know why he's so happy.’ She mused, ‘. . . It's really sad now that I think about it.’
“Oh come on, Mother!” Interrupted Weiss, “Jaune of all people?!”
Willow looked a little surprised and switched her gaze between Jaune and her daughter.
“Jaune?” She asked, “This the annoying boy you wrote to us about?”
“Yes, that's him!” Weiss nodded fervently.
Jaune looked embarrassed; he hated remembering how foolish he’d been back in those days. But Willow just cupped Jaune’s face, eyeing him analytically.
“Hmmm . . . well, he’s more handsome than you'd let on.” She appraised, “And he’s hardly scraggly. He's quite well-built and kept. He’s also been nothing short of the perfect gentleman since he and his friends helped me escape.”
“What?” Weiss felt her world begin to crumble,
“Oh- and his hands have only ever been right where they needed to be.” Willow smirked coyly, "He's also very huggable and warm, it's just what I needed after all this time."
“Um-” Ruby raised a finger,
“Around my shoulders or on my back.” Willow clarified, “He asked permission before touching anything else.”
“Oh-” Ruby lowered her finger, “Wooowwwww . . .”
“Excuse me!” Weiss tried to argue, “Are we forgetting who this is?! He was scraggly when we met!”
“Well, he’s clearly not anymore.” Willow furrowed her brow, then broke into a teasing smile, “Weiss you're looking at-”
She stopped for a moment and turned to Nora.
“Um, what is it you young people call it?” She asked, “A beef tart- no, pie, was it?"
“Uh- Beef cake.” Nora corrected her, “Close enough.”
“Ooh yes, that’s it!” Willow snapped her fingers, “He’s a proper Beef cake. Not over-muscled, but not too frail either. And he’s the perfect height too!”
The others couldn't see it, but Jaune’s face had turned as red as Ruby’s cloak. He felt so loved.
“D’oh, stop it!” He crooned, “You’ll make me blush!”
“You dunce, you'd blush for just about anything, wouldn't you?!” Snapped Weiss,
“Weiss,” Her mother warned, “He’s not a dunce, he’s a dear. But if he’s to wear the dunce cap for anyone, it will be for me.”
Willow turned back to Jaune, tickling his chin.
“Now, darling, be a good boy, and bring those wonderful lips back to Mommy.” She licked her own,
“Woof!” Jaune’s voice cracked a little.
Just as their lips were about to touch.
“Mother, stop it!” Weiss was ready to rip her hair out.
Willow, exasperated, rolled her eyes and sighed.
“Oh relax, will you, Dear.” She chided, still stroking Jaune’s face, “It’s not as if you two are together.”
“That’s as may be!” Admitted Weiss blushing, “But he’s still my friend!”
“A friend you regularly spurned if my memory serves correctly.” Willow's reminder was firm, “Who was it complaining about his every advance in her letters? Not me, certainly. I wasn’t there, but if I had been, I’d have urged you to say yes. Or I'd have taken him out myself, perhaps.”
“YOOOOOOOOOO-!!” Yang, Nora, and Ruby shrilled, none of them could believe their ears.
Willow Schnee thought Jaune Arc was attractive?
A billionaire woman liked - for lack of a better word - a bumpkin?
What had happened to the world since team RNJR started their adventures together?
And not only that!
In spite of her constant drinking, Willow had read the letters Weiss wrote home. She had been paying attention to her after all.
Now that really topped it off!
Weiss shrunk back a little.
Deep down, she knew her mother was right. Although she had apologised to Jaune for being so rude in the early days, she had a very sinking feeling that he hadn’t accepted it.
Now she worried Jaune was doing this just to spite her.
Weiss would admit she knew next to nothing about boys outside of what Winter, Klein, and her father had told her, and what she had seen in Whitley.
Most of it had been not promising - Klein notwithstanding of course, because he was always so wonderful - and it led her to believe all boys had a sordid, icky endgame, one which only they would benefit from. So, Weiss had opted to stay away from them.
Despite of the forewarning, she had briefly dropped her guard and pursued Neptune back at Beacon, but that was ancient history now. There were bigger fish to fry, and romance was not among the cards as far as she was concerned.
While Weiss stewed in her thoughts, Oscar and Ren gave their friends a proper run-down of what had happened.
It was just as Nora said.
They went to the Manor and were invited inside. They spoke to Jacques and laid out their proposal, but as it turned out, he was already prepared for the blackmail they had, and he threatened to call the police after having them escorted out.
So, the team had to fall back and rethink their strategy. But as they made their daring getaway, they came across Willow; she had seen and heard everything and was desperate to get away as well.
She even promised to help with blackmailing Jacques further, which everyone thought was hilarious, and immediately invited her along. When they jumped into the van, Nora noticed how Willow was acting, and - in her infinite wisdom - offered Jaune to her, mostly so she could let out her frustrations. She knew Jaune was good for venting.
Ren was too, but he was her man.
So it was arranged.
Jaune and Willow took the seats in the very back of the van, while Ren drove with Oscar in the passenger seat.
Nora stayed between both parties and decided to watch their six, occasionally poking her head out and very suspiciously eyeing Schnee Manor while they drove away, as if the whole mansion, grounds and all, might get up and chase after them.
Jaune stayed huddled with Willow, keeping her company. He'd done this sort of thing before; comforting people came easily to him.
Now because Nora was too busy keeping a lookout from the moonroof, and Ren and Oscar kept their eyes on the road, none of them had seen what was going on between Jaune and Willow; until Nora came back down and heard a noise, a very distinct smooching noise, so she peered over the seat to look.
As soon as she saw it, Nora wanted to whoop and cheer for Jaune; seeing him lock lips with Willow Schnee of all people was equally as amazing as it was funny - his luck really seemed to hold out as far as mothers were concerned, and Weiss’ was definitely no exception.
But what really made Nora happy was the look on Jaune’s face after they shared their first kiss.
They had all been through so much since The Fall; everyone knew Jaune blamed himself for damn-near all of it - both she and Ren knew this was mostly because he felt guilty about Pyrrha.
And when she saw Jaune open his eyes again, Nora saw a spark in them.
One she was sure had been snuffed out some time ago.
Nora was so happy she nearly couldn’t contain herself, but she knew they had to be quiet, so telling the others about it would have to wait, at least until they were far enough away. But by the time they were, they had arrived back to their friends.
Weiss began feeling very light-headed.
“I don’t like to be that person.” Oscar called to Willow and Jaune, “But it's time we left. They’ll have caught on to us by now.”
Willow let out a disappointed whine, and accidentally wiggled her hips on Jaune as she adjusted herself.
“Oh, please, just five more minutes?” She begged, We’ve finally come to a-”
Willow stopped when she felt something poke up behind her.
Something big. And thick.
“Oh~,” She purred,
“Sorry . . .” Jaune looked most embarrassed.
But Willow didn’t mind at all.
“Make it ten.” She bit her lip, “I doubt any road will be smooth enough for what I want to do next~.”
“Ew.” Weiss’ frown was so broad, Blake thought her mouth might fall off.
“Make it fifteen!” Ruby piped up, “I want in!”
“What?!” Demanded Weiss,
“The fuck!?” Yang’s eyes popped open.
To everyone's shock, Willow looked excited.
“Oh my, yes!” Undaunted, she pushed the back seat down, allowing for more space in the van, “The more, the merrier.”
“YES!” Ruby pumped her fist, then stuck her finger up Yang's nose, "IN! YO! FACE!"
And with a flourish, she used her semblance to close the gap; dashing inside and slamming the door behind her before Yang could do anything. The van rocked and creaked as the three of them started going at it. Weiss and Yang were speechless.
“This might just about the funniest thing I’ve ever seen.” Nora was happy for Jaune,
“I think this is the quietest it’s even been between these two.” Blake pointed to Yang and Weiss,
“WWWHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?!” Wailed Yang,
“And there it goes . . .” Blake sighed,
“Why do these things keep happening to me?!” Weiss couldn’t believe it, “I go to Beacon, I don't get to lead! I see a nice boy, but he's a dirty flirt! And then Beacon is destroyed, I'm forced to come back here, help save the world-”
Weiss was so upset, she couldn't stop thinking about everything she'd seen go wrong.
“Be strong, Weiss,” Yang wrapped her weakly into a hug, “We’ll get through this together!”
“Shut up, don’t touch me!” Weiss hugged her back,
“I don’t want to be the one who jinxes it,” Ventured Ren, “But things could’ve been worse . . .”
“Oh, worse, how?!” Demanded Yang,
“Could’ve been?!” Weiss was indignant, “I fail to see-!? ”
“Winter and Raven.” Blake figured.
Weiss gagged, and Yang snarled; both girls tightened their grip on each other.
“Well . . .” Nora rocked back and forth on her toes, “I can’t speak for Raven, but . . .”
“But what?!” Snapped Weiss, “Out with it!”
“I mean-” Nora pretended to think carefully about what to say next, “How do you think we got the van?”
Weiss turned as white as her hair.
“Dear God . . .” Muttered Blake,
“There’s more . . .” Added Oscar,
“Nooo . . .” Groaned Yang, “No mo-ho-ho-ho-ore . . . It was enough to know that this guy fucks! And that my baby sister wants to too!”
A symphony of sweet moans rang out from the van.
“AAOOHH GODS, SHUT THEM UP!” Yang couldn’t take it anymore,
“Yeah, Winter’s arranged to see him soon.” Oscar said quickly, “Either after we escape Atlas, or when we meet her later. We have to keep the van somehow-”
“NNNOOOOO!” With that final sob, Weiss passed out in Yang’s arms.
“YES~!” Willow trilled from inside the van,
“And-now THIS is a katana~!” Hollered Ruby.
‐---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A very awkward thirty minutes later, Weiss woke up, and the teams were on their way to a safe haven, far away from Schnee Manor. The ride was quiet, aside from the tires humming on the road beneath them.
Both Weiss and Yang were upset - Weiss more so than Yang, but that still didn’t mean it was something to sneeze at.
Jaune could feel Weiss’ angry eyes boring holes into him.
“Um-” He tried,
“Not!” Weiss interrupted, “A word out of you.”
The message received, Jaune shrank into himself, and shut his mouth. Strangely, Blake stepped up to defend him.
“You can’t be mad at him, Weiss.” She said, “He didn’t do anything wrong really.”
“Oh, can’t I?” Snorted Weiss, “Nothing wrong, indeed!”
“You heard what Ren and Nora said,” Blake reminded her, “He was only doing what he could to cheer her up.”
“He didn’t even try to stop kissing my mother.” Weiss was not having it, “But he did it for her, because it made her happy, so I can’t be mad at him for that now can I?!”
Jaune wanted to say something.
“I-” He tried again,
“Shut up!” Weiss interrupted again.
Once more, Jaune deflated. This time, Ren defended him.
“I think this has more to do with being repressed than anything else.” He reasoned from the driver’s seat, “Your mother went years without the touch of a loved one or a true lover. Jaune is willing to fill that role for her.”
Yang spotted the chance for a dirty joke, but didn't dare take it.
“And Jaune’s always thinking about what’s best for us.” Oscar put-in from the passenger seat,
“Annd he still has to bang your sister for the van in a while.” Nora added, almost too chipperly,
“Not helping, Nora, but thank you.” Ren called,
“Look, can we not talk about banging each other’s sisters for a sec?” Yang was feeling enormously uncomfortable.
Weiss was still upset.
“Well, he might’ve held better control over himself!” She said huffily, “And that- um, other sword of his . . .”
Jaune shifted awkwardly in his seat, but relaxed a little when Willow’s arms snaked discreetly over his shoulders. Thankfully, no one else seemed to notice.
“Alright, I hate to be on Vee-Bee’s side,” Yang admitted, “But I can’t really judge him either.”
At that moment, Ruby popped her head up from behind the seat next to Jaune; she was most eager to hear this.
Weiss was taken aback.
“Excuse me!” She put a hand on her chest,
“Weissy, have you seen your mother lately?” Yang asked, “Like, actually looked at her from head to toe?”
“What has that got to do with-” Weiss tried to brush it off,
“Weiss, your mom is hot.” Yang said bluntly, “There’s no easy way for me to say this.”
Weiss was appalled and speechless. Because she didn’t say anything, Yang took that as her cue to continue.
“I mean, look at her,” She insisted, “like, really look at her! She’s pretty, she has boobs as big as mine, a slim waist, and butt so fine, Blake almost looks a little small next to it-”
The words were out of Yang’s mouth before she could stop herself. Blake raised her eyebrows in a challenging way.
“Careful . . .” She warned,
“Sorry,” And Yang continued, “But I seriously can’t blame Jaune, looking at this objectively anyway. If I was a man with a working pair of eyes, your mom would give me a hard-on too. Hell, I like girls too, and she's doing me favours just being here with us!”
Willow blushed and smirked proudly behind Jaune’s head, she felt very flattered. Until now, she and Ruby had been quietly recovering out of the others’ sight.
“Um . . . thank you?” Jaune shrugged, unsure of what was going on just then.
Yang gave him a very pointed look.
“You’re still not off the hook with me, dude.” She said, shaking her head.
Once more, Jaune recoiled and sighed.
“Anyways, the point is there’s nothing we can do about this now.” Blake explained, “What’s done is done, and we should be focused on the real issue. How are we going to get money for our adventure?”
“Ideas, anyone?” Oscar asked, turning around to face his friends,
“Become professional jewel thieves?” Suggested Yang,
“Stage a series of bank robberies?” Weiss considered,
“Become prostitutes!” Declared Nora,
“WHAT?!” All the other girls were disgusted,
“What?” Nora shrugged, “It’s legal in Mantle.”
“. . . Seconded, I guess . . .” Ren muttered loud enough for everyone to hear.
Jaune knew this was only so he could keep an eye on Nora - if push came to shove. It had been her idea, after all.
Ruby shook her head.
“Okay, let’s try this again,” Ruby piped up for the first time in a while, “do we have any legal ideas?”
Willow, who hadn’t said anything either, poked her head out and calmly intervened.
“My dear, if you needed money, you should have just asked me.” She said, addressing Weiss specifically.
Everyone stopped fussing for a moment, and flipped their gaze between Weiss and her mother. Collectively, they all ignored where Willow’s hands were resting.
“I . . . I could have?” Weiss seemed surprised,
“Of course!” Willow assured her, “Whatever made you think you couldn’t?”
Weiss looked down and mumbled; she looked a little hurt.
“I . . . I didn’t think you’d answer if I did the asking . . .” She said quietly.
Willow smiled kindly.
“Weiss, you’re my daughter.” She said, “My sweet, darling girl. I know you may not think I would, but I’d do anything for you if you asked. I’m not your father, but like you and everyone else, I’ve been hurt by him too.”
‘. . . Oh . . .’
Jaune looked a little to the left and reached up, gently clutching her hand, he brushed his thumb over her own; Willow accepted the gesture, and their fingers twined.
Once again, Weiss was speechless. She didn’t know what to think. For so long, Willow had made herself an invalid, in Weiss’ eyes, and now to see her coming back to life in such a profound way . . .
To see her coming back into her life . . .
It was moving . . .
“Thank you . . .” Weiss nearly wanted to cry.
At last, they arrived at Atlas’ Edge. This was like a border crossing for the Kingdoms of Atlas and Mantle; some of the airships travelling between the two kingdoms were big enough to carry small vehicles, like cars and pick-up trucks.
Now, the general public had their own fleet of airships for basic travel, but authorised personnel, such as Atlas Specialists and certain huntsmen still affiliated with the military, were transported using different ones. These were twice the size of the others, big enough in fact to carry military equipment like weapons, dust shipments, and, of course, the double-wide vans.
Willow directed Ren towards the authorised airships, and he gently cruised the van to a stop. Everyone got out and stretched their legs, and after a few minutes, they saw Winter come out from the shadows. Weiss was relieved to see her big sister.
“Winter!” She called.
Winter wasted no time and gave her sister a hug.
“I’m glad to see you made it out safely.” She said, hugging Weiss back, “All of you. We’ll be taking you to Doctor Polendina’s Pharmacy, you can lay low there until this situation blows over.”
“Thank you, Winter.” Weiss was grateful,
“Phew!” Remarked Nora, “That’ll be great. Your dad sucks, bee-tee-dubz.”
“What?” Winter blinked, “Oh yes, um, you’re right, he does.”
“Hold on, who’s we?” Asked Blake.
Before Winter could answer, an airship drew smoothly into the dock, and the ramp lowered.
“I can fly an airship.” She explained, “But I knew I should wait out here to make sure you arrived on time. Specialist Amin is in the cockpit now. Speaking of which, by the way, you’re late.”
Weiss gulped. Although she knew the teams were in a hurry, she hadn’t known how close they’d cut it.
“Five minutes behind schedule, what kept you?” Winter demanded.
“Five minutes isn't too bad though, is it?” Asked Ruby.
At that moment, Winter spotted her and Willow limping into view.
“What happened to them?” She was concerned,
“We- uh, heh-heh . . . we kinda had a little fun on the way?” Ruby chuckled, abashed,
“Fun?” Winter raised an eyebrow, “You two? Together?”
“Well yes, my dear,” Willow smiled, “Jaune was quite good to us both.”
Winter’s forehead wrinkled somewhat, she looked stern.
“But mother~,” She almost whined in a petulant way, “I thought we agreed I’d be the first to do it!”
Weiss’ eyes nearly fell out of her head.
‘Nora hadn’t lied?!’ She realised.
“I’m sorry, Winter.” Willow apologised earnestly, “But we both know he’s just what we need.”
Winter pouted uncharacteristically.
“. . . Fine.” She sighed, then turned to Jaune, “In that case, I have a favour to ask.”
“Uhh . . . yes, Ma’am?” He looked a little nervous,
“I’ll be needing you, your friend in green, and Specialist Amin.” Winter said firmly, “In the van after we load it up.”
“Oh.” Blake was stunned,
“. . . Uuuuhhhh . . .” Yang had no words,
“All three-?!” If Weiss’ jaw hadn’t dropped before, it’d have fallen from the cliff when she heard Winter say that.
Ruby had jumped back into the van to help Marrow and Nora load it up, so she hadn’t heard anything. Neither Yang nor Blake nor Oscar could believe it themselves, there was so much going on!
Since when was Jaune so good with cold women?
Jaune had nothing to say himself, he just gulped; once again, he could feel Weiss’ angry eyes boring holes into him. Ren was nervous too, the look in Winter’s eyes was a hungry one, and he didn’t know what to make of it.
“Altogether, they’ll suit my purposes.” Winter stated, matter-of-factly, “We still have approximately thirty minutes before our scheduled departure time.”
“Um, I- I don’t think my girlfriend would-” Ren tried, blushing brighter than anyone thought was possible,
“How much are you willing to offer?” Nora had bounded over before anyone noticed, she had heard everything.
Both Willow and Winter smirked.
“How ever much you’d like.” They said together.
Nora’s eyes lit up and sparkled like fireworks.
“YOU GOTTA DEAL!” And with both hands, she shook Winter and Willow’s, and then she turned to her teammates, “ALRIGHTY BWOIS, GET IN THERE!”
And reeling her hands back, she slapped their backsides harder than intended. Jaune and Ren yelped and stared in utter disbelief as Nora, unabashed as ever, ran back to the hull of the airship.
“HEY, BISCUIT-BREATH!” She hollered at Marrow, “GET YOUR TAIL DOWN HERE, MISS WINTER’S ASKED FOR YOUR HELP!”
How could it have gone so far?
“Jaune?” Ren gulped, “I’m both scared and aroused . . . what do I do?”
Jaune just shook his head.
“I’unno, dude.” He sighed, “Let’s just get it going . . .”
And cracking his neck, Jaune made his way over to the hull. Ren quietly followed him. Winter kept on smirking and led them on, swaying her hips as she went.
Willow gazed proudly at them all.
“That’s my eldest.” She smiled, then she had a thought, “Do you know? I think I’ll go watch them.”
And with that, Willow headed for the airship as well.
Everyone who remained outside couldn’t help staring as Marrow dropped down from a higher level and clambered excitedly into the van.
Yang ventured over to where Weiss was standing.
“Uhh . . . Weissy?” She asked carefully, “Are you okay?”
Weiss didn’t answer.
“Weiss?” Yang tried again.
Still nothing happened.
“I think we need to give her some time.” Blake patted her shoulder, “I don’t know how I’d take it if my mother wanted to have um, relations, with Jaune of all people.”
Yang agreed. It would be a very jarring moment.
Although Yang would also admit, she knew she would be very angry if she found out Raven wanted to spend time with Jaune like that. And Gods forbid if Summer were still around!
She wouldn't excuse it, no matter how much he looked like her father.
“We should get on board.” Said Oscar, “We’re still escaping.”
Yang and Blake nodded at each other, and scooping up Weiss, they scrambled up the ramp and entered the airship. As they did, Oscar thought of something.
“Hey, where’d Ruby go?” He asked.
Yang and Blake looked around. Sure enough, Ruby was nowhere to be seen. Then Blake remembered.
“Wasn’t she helping load the van?” She pointed out,
“Yeah!” Yang snapped her fingers, “So she has to be in the-”
She stopped short.
“I remember seeing her get in the van, but I don’t remember seeing her get out . . .” Blake pointed out.
Yang stood stock-still for a moment.
“FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!” She shrieked at last.

So Far Away AU Part3
Chapter 2: New Start
During their journey to the Haven Academy, Jaune couldn’t understand why Qrow bothered to get drunk. Back in his hometown, he had seen many people get drunk and had their lives and their families destroyed by it. His father used to indulge in alcohol from time to time, but he remembers that he was always in control. Weiss’ mother was an alcoholic too. Alcohol was a poison Jaune never wanted to indulge in and yet here he was sipping it away at the bar, realizing why a person indulged in alcohol.
With every sip he took, he felt himself numb to what he was feeling. With every single swig he took, he found himself numb to the world. Jaune was not a lightweight, but he was also not someone who identified in the opposite spectrum. The hustle and bustle of the bar served as a soothing drone, but it was not hypnotizing enough to send him to a slumber.
“So what now?” Ren asks and at this moment Jaune looks up and remembers that he was not alone at the bar. Ren and Nora were here as well with him at the small table they had occupied. While he and Ren indulged themselves with a whisky on the rocks, Nora bothered herself to get a beer. Qrow was here as well, tucked away in a corner, drinking water which half surprised Jaune. Ilia, Sun, Coco, Velvet, and Neptune were huddled at one of the bigger tables, softly talking and from the expression they had on their face, the knight deduced that it was not a lively discussion. Neo, just like Qrow, occupied another corner, and Emerald and Mercury were seen at the counter, talking away.
What surprised Jaune more was the sight of Winter. Considering the history of alcohol in her family, Jaune expected her to be one of those people who despised alcohol. Well, he knew Weiss loathed it. But here she was, sitting at the counter, drinking the wine away, albeit in moderation.
“About what?” Jaune asks while taking a sip of his whisky.
“You know, fearless leader… what do you plan to do?” Nora asks while running her finger on the rim of her glass.
“What do you plan to do?” Jaune asks as he places his glass gently on the table. With the direction this conversation seemed to go, it was better if he remained sober.
Nora and Ren look at each other and an unspoken agreement happens between them. They look at their leader and for a second, they hesitate to say what they had on their mind. Ren unconsciously cracks his knuckles and Nora starts rubbing her palms. Sensing their hesitation, Jaune gives them a gentle smile and says, “Before you say what you guys want to do, just remember that, whatever decision you take, whatever path you choose, I will always support you”.
The duo straighten their backs a bit as soon as Jaune says that as if a huge weight was lifted off their shoulder, and Ren looks at Nora to which the red-head woman nods. The man nods and then he looks at his leader and says, “I and Nora are planning to quit being huntsmen. We want to go back to Kuroyuri and rebuild it”.
Judging by how worried they looked right now, it was safe for Jaune to assume that he looked flabbergasted. He didn’t expect that. He didn’t mind them doing this, he just didn’t see it coming. Not even once did Nora nor Ren talk about Kuroyuri, so he was blindsided by their decision. Maybe the saying that war changes everything was true in every sense.
“We have been around the block, asking anyone who wants to join us. We have a good number. We thought if you don’t have anything going on, maybe you could come with us”, Nora says, a bit of hesitance in her voice.
A small smile grew on Jaune’s face. Even in tough times, they were thinking about him. Sure, he did have plans. He was planning to confess to Ruby and if it went well, maybe take her to his hometown to meet his parents who he didn’t see for a long time. Maybe meet Taiyang as well and ask for his blessing. Then get married and settle down. He and Ruby would continue to be huntsmen, but he would retire early to take care of the kids.
But now, Ruby is gone. So most of his plans were down the drain and thus he had to begin from square one. Sure the offer Nora and Ren were giving was tempting, but he didn’t see himself going with them. They needed their privacy. They needed their space to grow and him being there would intrude that space and it didn’t sit well with Jaune.
He replies, “I’m happy that you are considering me in your future. But I must stop you right there. There are things I want to do and I won’t be able to do if I decide to join you guys”.
“Do we have the right to know those things?” Ren hesitantly asks.
Jaune’s eyes soften a bit as he replies, “It’s been 26 years since I saw my parents. I fought with my Dad before I came to Beacon. I did talk to Mom but after the fall of Beacon, we fell out of touch. The last person from my family that I had talked with was Saphron and that was ages ago. Now, after everything that has happened, I think it is time to go back home and be there for my family. Also, Crocea Mors can’t go back to its rightful place if I don’t go back home”.
“Where exactly is your home, Jaune?” Nora asks.
“It's a small town in Vale by the name of Ansel”, Jaune replies.
“But didn’t Vale get destroyed?” Nora asks.
“The main city got destroyed, but places in the countryside like Patch, Ansel, and Strot are relatively safe. Also, my town has its fair share of good huntsmen”, the blonde replies.
“But do you have to go? You can still come with us and visit them once in a while right? Maybe you could…” Nora starts but Ren cuts her off by placing his hand on her shoulder. She looks at him and he just shakes his head. The knight understood where Nora was coming from. Her own experience related to her mother might have made her assume that his family might be the same.
But Jaune knew well. He might have shared differences with his father but over the years, he has come to know why his father never bothered to train him. His mother was on the passive side but she always meant well. And then there were his sisters. He fought with them, he argued with them but he also loved them. You can’t forget about family just because you have one difference with them.
But at the same time, he was nervous. As he said before, it has been 26 years since he had seen them. The scroll which he had with him when he fell into Ever After, was lost in the unknown. It contained everything about his family and friends. The memories it held in it were lost forever to the blackness of the void. It has been so long that he even struggles to remember how they even look. He is also scared of the fact that anything could happen to them during these years.
“We understand, Jaune. You should go back to your family and regarding Kuroyuri, I believe you can visit us from time to time”, Ren says with a small reassuring smile. Did Ren sense the dilemma Jaune was going through in his mind? The knight had no idea. But knowing that he had his back brought ease to his soul.
“Yeah… you can do that!” Nora chimes in.
“That seems like a good alternative”, Jaune replies with a smile and as he picks up his glass, he asks, “So when are you two leaving?”
Ren shrugs his shoulders in reply and says, “Since it's a big group, it might take some time for us to prepare. If I have to give an exact number, maybe in three to four weeks”. Jaune simply nods.
“When are you leaving, Jaune?” Nora asks.
Jaune shrugs his shoulders as he replies, “I don’t know… maybe in a week. I don’t have much stuff to carry. Tomorrow, I was planning to get in contact with one of the Bullhead pilots and ask the place where he could drop me. Then get some stuff sorted out”.
“Only a week! I thought we had enough time to hang out”, Nora groans to which both Jaune and Ren let out a chuckle.
The knight reaches out to pat the short woman’s head and says, “If it makes you feel better, I’m not sure whether I will be leaving early. As far as I know, the flight towards Vale might not occur this early. So if I get lucky, I might be around for a few more days”.
“But there is also a chance the flight might be in three days! What if there is one tomorrow?” Nora asks with concern.
Jaune smiles and replies, “Well, if that is the case then I guess I will miss that flight and wait for another”.
“You know… why can’t you wait till we leave for Kuroyuri!? That way we have plenty of time to spend!” Nora suggests.
“Nora…” Ren chastises her.
The knight couldn’t help but chuckle and said, “Well, that is something I can’t do. You guys would be busy with the preparations. So it's better if I get myself out of the way”.
“You are never in the way, Jaune”, Ren immediately replies in an offended tone.
The blonde takes a sip and with a grin on his face, he replies, “I know, Ren. I know”. A moment of silence grows among them and his eyes gaze back into his glass. In one big sip, he empties the glass and then he says, “Well, I will take my leave then”.
“You’re leaving?” Ren asks with genuine concern.
“I'm drained, man. I just want to sleep”, he replies and both of them understand.
They nod in synchrony and the short red-haired woman reaches out and hugs the knight. She then looks at her partner, who just nods and goes to hug them. They held onto each other for what felt like an eternity. None of them wanted to let go. It took Jaune all of his restraint to let go.
“Good night, fearless leader”, Nora beams.
“Good night, Jaune”, Ren says with a soft smile on his face.
“Good night guys”, Jaune replies as he walks out of the bar into the cold winds of the Vacuan night.
The night was beautiful but Jaune was not in the mood to savor it. Even with the presence of the shattered moon and stars, he seldom felt at ease. The local huntsmen were patrolling the camps. Just because Salem was dead, it didn’t mean that the Grimm would rest. After all, they existed before her. Her presence in this world acted as a control and now… since she was gone, they were back to their instinctual predation. The huntsmen were on their toes patrolling day and night.
Some waved at him as he walked past them and he returned the gesture in kind. He was acquainted with a few of them. Having Aura Amp as his semblance meant that he was in high demand. Sometimes they would reach out to him in the middle of the night to help and the knight would oblige. At least he could be helpful now, but also left him with little time to mourn. Jaune couldn’t help but shudder to imagine how these guys would fare after his departure. He was half convinced to stay back just to treat these people, but he had to stop himself. They were in this business knowing that their death was part of their main course… he can’t save everyone.
Pondering, Jaune enters the area where the refugees are camping. The sight of him brought smiles to the eyes of the children who were awake and they would rush to him asking about how his day was. The knight liked children a lot. Their smile eased him and it also made him work hard. This is not the place a child should be, yet here they were. The guilt that was present in his heart, rears its ugly head and worms its way into his mind.
This was a newly built settlement. The last settlement where people from Atlas were camping was attacked overnight by Salem in the early days of the war. That skirmish took the lives of many people, including Weiss’ mother and brother. Many children died that day. Weiss and Winter were never the same after Willow and Whitley's death. There were times when Jaune would hear Weiss cry in the night, but he never dared to approach her, and that made him feel worse. She had helped him recover and he couldn’t help her back then and he can’t help her now.
The children would accompany him to his tent and they would say their goodbyes and be on their merry way. Jaune’s tent was not big but it was also not small. It was enough to room three people with beds and he used to share this space with Oscar and Qrow. It had enough space to hold a small portable stove in between and it was high enough for Jaune to stand up straight. But these days it is quite different. Oscar’s bed was neatly folded away and given to someone who needed it more than them. Qrow rarely appears back, so Jaune is mostly alone.
The knight flops down on his bed and he unbuckles his sword from his waist. His eyes get drawn by the small moths that are hovering around his camp light and he is drawn to it. Today was a very long day and he was exhausted. The stove was warming the camp enough to make it cozy and Jaune slowly got rid of the coat he was wearing. As he folded the coat to act as his makeshift pillow, he sensed someone standing outside his tent.
“Jaune, are you awake?” a voice asks and Jaune immediately recognizes who the person is.
“Winter? Yes, I’m awake”, Jaune replies and the flaps of the tent open to reveal Winter. Prim and proper, but she seemed quite hesitant to enter.
“I hope I’m not disturbing you”, Winter asks standing at the entrance.
Jaune smiles and says, “No! You were not. Please make yourself comfortable”. The military officer takes up the offer the knight made and sits on the Qrow’s bed. While she was making herself comfortable, Jaune took this moment to study her.
She had no sway in her movement, it meant she was sober. The way she appeared at his tent, meant that she followed him from the bar. The way she was hesitant to enter, explained to Jaune that she was not here for pleasantries. It was at this moment, Jaune knew very well that Winter came to him to discuss.
“How is life treating you, Jaune?” Winter asks as an ice-breaker.
Jaune shrugs his shoulders in indifference as he replies, “Same thing, different day. Nothing new. How are you?”
Winter lets out a sigh as she says, “Same here. Still trying to get used to not having my powers, but other than that, just like you said, nothing new”.
As soon as the explosion that claimed the lives of Ruby and others occurred, Winter lost her maiden powers. From what Jaune knew, the powers of maidens came from Ozpin. Since Oscar was dead now, it would make sense that he would reincarnate, but this time Salem was dead for good, which means that Ozpin’s hell also came to an end and thus the maiden power, which was his essence, also vanished. Winter was not overly sad about losing the powers if it meant that Salem was slain for good.
“And how is the search coming together?” Jaune asks.
“Yeah… about that. We are still looking. The Grimm concentration has gone down due to what Dr. Polendina calls the residual energy left by Ruby’s silver eyes, but it won’t stay for long. We have to find the relics as soon as possible”, Winter replies.
Jaune nods in agreement and replies, “Well, it's a good thing that we have the relic of destruction”.
“We have to thank Ruby for holding onto that”, Winter says and suddenly she sensed the knight’s mood go down into a spiral. The soldier had an inkling of how much Ruby meant to him. Her sister had given her enough hints regarding that. But seeing the knight so heartbroken saddened Winter a lot. He was a good man. He had suffered enough. So, she decides to steer the conversation in the direction she intended to at the beginning.
“I got a word from the hospital. They told me that Weiss would be fit for discharge in a week. She would still be hooked up to oxygen and IVs but we can take her away”, Winter says.
Jaune’s mood brightens up immediately and with glee, he exclaims, “That’s great news, Winter! I’m happy for you”.
It causes the white-haired woman to smile but her mood drops and says, “It is good news, but I’m not sure about this, Jaune”.
“What’s wrong? You can tell me anything, Winter”, the knight asks.
“Jaune, as you know, my hands are tied. As much as I want to make Weiss my main priority, it's… it's just that I don’t trust anyone enough to find the relics and not use them for their gain. Headmaster Theodore is a good man, but I want to be there when we find those relics. I also don’t have enough trust in a stranger to take care of Weiss in my place. And not to forget, I hate to be that person, but this is not the place I want Weiss to be in as she recovers”, Winter laments as she leans forward, using her knees as support.
Jaune understood where her concerns came from. Vacuo, while it was kind enough to let the refugees live, the natives wouldn’t hesitate to abandon them when the chances of survival come into play. The Vacuan arms were open to anyone who was able to survive the harsh conditions and the refugees were mere civilians who were thrust into this war. He had heard a passing rumor about how few of them were planning to make a trip to East Sanus and Anima. Some were even contemplating to travel as far as Solitas and Menagerie. This was not a place you would have someone like Weiss stay.
But there was something that bothered Jaune a lot. The way Winter hesitated to find words after what she had just said, the way she refused to look into his eyes said that there was more she wanted to say. He doesn’t say a word, allowing all the time he could spare for Winter to articulate her thoughts.
“At the bar, I overheard you saying that you were planning to move back to your family”, Winter starts, looking a bit guilty.
“I am”, Jaune confirms.
“Jaune, what Ansel is like?” Winter asks.
The knight was taken aback by the question his friend’s sister posed. The only person he had divulged about his hometown was Ruby and it was during their trip to Haven Academy. To hear someone ask about it… it was new.
Racking his blurry memories, Jaune replies, “It’s a small town in Vale. It has a lot of farms and vineyards. We don’t live near the sea, but the rivers make up for it. It doesn’t get too hot in summer and it doesn’t get too cold in winter. Once in a while, the snow sticks. The people are friendly and we do have a good number of huntsmen protecting the town”.
Winter nods and in a hesitant voice, she asks, “So is it a good place for Weiss to recover?”
“Definitely! It is a great place for anyone who wants to settle down”, Jaune replies absently.
The soldier bites her lips as if she was contemplating what to say next. She looked at him, and Jaune could easily say that she was being hesitant.
“Winter, is there something you want to say?” Jaune asks with a small smile on his face. This causes the white-haired woman to be surprised, but in the end, she just lets out a sigh. She remains quiet for a while, and then she takes a deep breath and looks into the knight’s eyes directly.
“There is something I wanted to ask. It’s more of a request”, Winter starts and she pauses for a second. She takes in one more breath and asks, “Will you take Weiss with you?”
Jaune didn’t see that coming. To be honest, he expected something along the lines of staying here which he was about to decline. But taking Weiss with him… that had never occurred to him. Why would it occur? Weiss, at best, was a good friend. He used to have romantic feelings for her in the past, but he outgrew it. And now, her sister is asking him to take her with him to his home.
“Winter, do you even realize what you are talking about?” Jaune asks while trying his best to keep his voice in check.
“I know what I just said, Jaune”, was the reply Winter gave.
“Why me? Just a moment ago you told me that you don’t trust a stranger to look after Weiss! What made you think that I am the right man for the job!?” the blonde knight asks in bewilderment.
“You are not a stranger, Jaune”, Winter starts in a gentle voice, which was quite rare to hear from her. She takes his hands in hers and says, “Weiss never considered you a stranger. As far as I know, she considered you as someone more than a friend. You are Weiss’ family”.
This causes the words to get stuck in Jaune’s throat. He… He had no arguments against that. He remains quiet as the elder Schnee sister continues to say, “You might be wondering why I chose you. It's because I know very well that you would do everything in your power to care for her. Nora and Ren will travel back to Kuroyuri to rebuild it and they won’t be able to look after her. I don’t know others well enough to know how they were with my sister. But you Jaune… I know you well. You never shirked away from responsibility and I feel at ease when she is with you”.
She continues to say, “And you just explained what Ansel was like. With how peaceful it sounds, I believe that place is the best place for Weiss to recover”.
“What if… what if screw up?” Jaune asks hesitantly. He would do that. Things never go right when it comes to him. If Winter was trusting Jaune enough, she should also know what she was getting into.
“You won’t. I know you enough to know that you won’t fail”, Winter says but Jaune doesn’t look convinced enough.
“I don’t know about that, Winter. It's a huge risk we are taking here”, the knight says.
“Then how about this? With things I have going on for me right now, it would take at least a year for me to wrap up. How about you just look after her for a year, and then I will move to Ansel and take her from your hands?” Winter suggested and Jaune took a moment to go through what she had just said. A year didn’t seem long enough. But if Winter says that it would take her a year to dig up the other relics, then it would be better if he is around Weiss for that time.
“Jaune. You are the only person I trust. I beg you to take Weiss away from here. My little sister has suffered enough. I don’t want her to be in pain any longer”, Winter states with tears in her eyes, and that is something Jaune doesn’t want to see.
“Ok”, Jaune replies, which causes the white-haired woman to look at him. “I will take her with me. Just… Please don’t cry. You can rest assured that she will be cared for”, he says as the soldier moves in for a hug. It was not an intimate one. He could feel how exhausted Winter was and he could imagine how good it must have felt for her to have this weight lighten up a bit. He didn’t have anything to do in his life. He couldn’t save his friends. He couldn’t save Ruby. But if he can seek some sort of satisfaction and redemption by taking care of Weiss, then he shall take this chance.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Did you get everything you needed?” Winter asks as she walks Jaune towards the Atlesian Cargo plane.
“Yep!” Jaune says with a slightly upbeat voice.
“Your driving license?”
“In my pocket
“Weiss’ medical reports?”
“In my bag”.
“Medicines?”
“In Weiss’ bag along with her clothes and her stuff”.
“Myrtenaster?”
“Perfectly polished and in the car”.
“Crocea Mors?”
This causes Jaune to pause in his stride. He looks at the elder Schnee sister and with a deadpan expression on his face, he asks, “Winter… did you seriously expect me to forget about my weapon?”
She raises her hands in exasperation and says, “Weiss told me that while you were competent in some things, you are also absent-minded in other things”.
“Thanks for the vote of confidence, Weiss”, Jaune mutters to himself as both of them walk into the cargo bay where the car Winter had acquired for him was parked. It was a top-class Atlesian Military Jeep. It had some wear and tear due to its use, but otherwise, it ran like a breeze. Its tires were secured to the floor of the plane and it held a lot of spare dust in its canisters. It was not too big, but it could hold a lot of things and right now it was holding precious cargo.
Strapped to the back of the driver seat was Weiss. She was hooked up to an IV and a portable oxygen cylinder hooked into her nasal cannula. The back seats were detached and were tied to the jeep’s roof. There were a lot of things next to the sleeping beauty. A long wooden case where her weapon was carefully stored away. There was an oxygen concentrator that Jaune was supposed to set up when the portable cylinder was not in use. A bag that had her medicine and clothes. Jaune’s rucksack was next to her bag since he had too little to carry. There were some tools and spare dust in case of an emergency.
“So it’s time, huh?” Winter says as she tears up a bit she reaches out to Weiss and kisses her forehead. She then looks at Jaune and says, “Please do take care of her and yourself. I will try to finish my job as soon as possible”.
“I will hold onto that”, Jaune says with a smile as he goes in for a hug which Winter graciously returns.
“Thank goodness we are on time”, they hear Nora exclaim and they see both Ren and Nora jog into the bay.
“Hope we are not late”, Ren pantingly says.
“You guys are just in time”, Winter says with a smile, and at that moment, Nora tackles her leader into a bear hug.
“I’m going to miss you so much, fearless leader” Nora sobs, and Jaune can’t help but smile and hug her back.
“I’m gonna miss you too, Nora”, Jaune says as he lets go and then he looks at Ren and hugs him.
“Take care of Weiss and yourself, brother. Do visit us once she recovers”, Ren says with a small smile on his face.
“Sure”, was the reply Jaune gave.
“One more thing, Jaune”, Winter says, and Jaune looks at her as she carefully rummages through the sling bag she had on her. She produces two jars and looks at them lovingly with a sad expression on her face and says, “It's Mother and Whitely. I thought it would comfort Weiss a bit if they are with her”, and she hands them over to Jaune gently.
“I will take good care of them”, Jaune reassures Winter as he holds those jars as if his life depended on it.
“I know you will”, Winter says in a gentle tone, and at that moment horns go off.
At first, it startled the group, and they looked around to see how everyone was gearing up. The knight looks back at the people and says, “Well I guess it's time to go”.
“I will inform you if something happens here. Just send me an update on Weiss’ health every week”, Winter says to which the blonde nods. Then all of them engulf him in a hug. It surprised him but he couldn’t hug them back since his hands were full and he returned the gesture by craning his neck over their shoulder. They held onto each other for what felt like a minute and then they let go.
“Stay in touch”, Ren says with a smile and he drags Nora away who was waving at him madly. But Jaune knew very well how awkward Ren was. He smiles at his departing friends.
“Give me an update as soon as you reach Ansel”, says Winter.
“Sure”, Jaune replies with a smile on his face, and the white-haired woman returns in kind. She then walks away, just in time for the doors of the cargo bay to start closing. The blonde knight opens the door to the passenger seat and places the jar on it. He then looks at Weiss one last time, making sure that her ears are well covered with earbuds.
He then sits in the driver’s seat and his mind wanders. He was going to start a new chapter in his life. Weiss would be with him for a year. Till then, he would do his best to make her better and comfortable. As he felt the plane take off, he couldn’t help but get excited because Ansel was so far away.

Ask and ye shall receive - how about a prompt around spiced winter drinks? Dealers choice on the fandom, maybe Dreamling or the Ren/Grey/Vargo ot3?
It’s one of the bitterest nights of the dwindling year, the canals glazed with ice and the pale stone warrens of Nadežra filled with eerie curls of mist, and even the altans and altas most dedicated to nocturnal misbehavior are generally inside, bundled up by warm fires or tucked in warm beds, and while Vargo certainly doesn’t have a philosophical objection to either activity (indeed, far from it) it unfortunately happens that he has to fucking work. It seems impossible that the piles of paper on his desk should have sprung to twice their original height in the last three days since he looked at them, but that’s the thing about political independence; it’s decidedly a double-edged sword. On the one hand, you get to arrange your own affairs. On the other, you… have to arrange your own affairs, and since Seterin has sat up and taken sharp notice of all these Vraszenians suddenly running around and exulting in their freedom, it heralds other possible conflicts down the line. That, Vargo supposes, is where sleeping with not just one but two legendary outlaws is likely to come in useful. If nothing else, they do have practice at this sort of thing.
A reluctant smile twitches his lip as he dips his pen and reaches unhappily for the first stack of correspondence. He misses Alsius – well, he always misses Alsius, but more than usual, who would absolutely love the boring nuts and bolts of this stuff, whereas it makes Vargo want to put his own eyes out with a hot stick. He scribbles and mutters and adds up figures, makes note of new requisitions and trade tariffs, ordinances of the freshly expanded Septerat; he doesn’t like it, but of course he didn’t rise to his original position by accident. The candles gutter low into waxy gremlins, and he thinks about drawing a numismata to keep them up, but that would suggest he will in fact be stuck here all night, and that’s a little too depressing to think about. Somebody’s got to do the ordinary grunt work while his dearly beloveds are running around the city in their silly costumes, but by the Lumen, why does it have to be him?
Just then, as he’s massaging the ache in his hand and thinking of some really good curses, Vargo smells a wisp of cinnamon, hears the faint creak of the floor, and turns halfway around, just as Ren leans down and presses a kiss into the side of his head. Voice rich and low with promise, she remarks, “Grey and I both perhaps feel we are being neglected.”
“This is your fault, you know,” Vargo grumbles, without heat. “Making me be the respectable one. And can’t you two entertain each other?”
Ren gives him another slightly wicked smile. “It’s more fun with you.”
Yes, Vargo agrees, it is at that. He vainly attempts to pretend that he will be doing paperwork for a few more moments – then, at Ren’s insistent tug, gets to his feet and lets her lead him down the hall, toward his private quarters at the back of the villa. Halfway there, a terrible thought occurs to him, and he stops short. “Is Arkady here?”
Ren bites a smirk. “She’s asleep. Upstairs. Even formidable knot bosses have to get their beauty sleep.”
“I very much doubt that,” Vargo mutters, since it seems unlikely that the newly-minted Alta Arkady Bones Vargonis has ever thought about beauty sleep in any capacity. But he’s glad to hear that she’s out of the way, after one too many moments when she nearly caught the three of them in flagrante delicto, and if Arkady knows a juicy secret like that, there’s no chance she’ll keep her trap shut instead of gleefully spilling it, if nothing else to see him squirm. It turns out, Vargo reflects sourly, that even without blood relation, his adopted daughter is very much like him in the hellraising department. In fact, far too much so. After all for the Nadežrans, blood is incidental, and secondary to whether an individual is inscribed in the family register. Arkady is, and that makes her as much his own, heir to his means and methods and moods, as if he did sire her in the ordinary fashion. Ažerais help them all.
He feels a sudden warmth on his face as they step into the lowlit sitting room, and gratefully spots the fire – which Grey Serrado is presently stoking, on his knees before the grate like a common scullion, which is possibly one of the less glamorous tasks ever asked of the great Rook. Still, it gives Vargo a certain glow, an inner warmth not just from the fire, and he strides inside. “Well, you two degenerates got my attention. What is it?”
Grey gets to his feet, brushing the soot off, and gives Vargo a ferocious stare that silently remarks he has the hells of a lot of nerve calling anyone else a degenerate. Still, he shrugs, crosses the carpet, and brushes the ghost of a kiss against Vargo’s cheek, while Ren cheerily shoves him onto the settee. Vargo is opening his mouth to ask what exactly they are intending to do to him, now that they’ve lured him here by bribes and trickery, but Grey forces a cup of hot spiced wine into his hand, and Vargo blinks at it. “Ah. What’s this?”
“Drink it,” Grey orders him, with the steely tones of the former Vigil captain, and Vargo fights a traitorous urge to salute. “You’ve been working too hard.”
“I thought you two were going to – ”
“Maybe later.” Ren perches on his other side and gives him another smile – still tinged with dark and wicked promise, the Rose’s thorns, but wistful as well, softer, and just wanting the three of them to have this quiet moment together in the cold winter night. “Drink.”
Far be it from him to refuse an order from Alta Renata and Grey Serrado at once, Vargo thinks, even without their alter egos. And is that not the reason for all the trouble he’s gotten himself into, either in past, present, or future? But there is nothing else he would rather do, and no one else he would rather be with, in all this city of Faces and Masks. He lifts the cup, grins into the brim with a tenderness that seems impossible for his heart to bear, and drinks.

Ironwood, Winter, Qrow and RWBY and JNOR are in a meeting regarding Salem but unfortunately RWBY and JNOR is about to recieve some bad news.
Winter: So far we are pushing Salem and her Grimm back for now
Jaune: As long as RWBY keep the momentum up we could find a way to stop Salem for good
Ironwood: I think I disagree
Winter: Sir I asked you to let me-
Ironwood. Tell them Winter . . . or I will
Winter: . . .
Winter: Ironwood has officially redesignated Team RWBY
Yang: Uh do you want to translate that from Bullshit to English?
Qrow growls squeezing his flask in anger: It means they're on the list.
Ruby: What list?
Ironwood: Terror organization list . . . I've ordered my men to treat team RWBY as hostiles
Ruby: W-What?
Blake glares: You're serious!?!?
Yang red eyes: OH THAT IS BULLSHIT
Weiss in disbelief: Winter?
Nora readys her hammer: TOUCH THEM AND I'LL BREAK EVERYONE OF YOUR SOLDIERS' LEGS
Ren doesn't say anything but he sure as hell won't stop Nora as he glares at Ironwwod struggling to keep his anger in check
Oscar: You what?
Ozma switches with Oscar
Ozcar: Surely this is some sort of mistake
Jaune was in the same boat as Ren but his anger however overpowered his self-control
Jaune: You better keep your puppets on a short string General!
Ironwood: or what?
Jaune gets into Ironwood's face: or I'll FUCKING hang you from it!!!
Everyone was stunned from Jaune's anger and some were a little scared but for Ruby though. . .
Ruby: That was hot. I think I came a little.
Yang: RUBY!?!?

So... I know ow you said you don't normally do this. But will you ever consider a part three to the teammates story? Because everything I read those, I can't help but imagine Jaune getting so lissed off that he takes Neo? Goes to walk off and say "I'll make my own team. With black jack and hookers". That doesn't have to happen. It's just what goes in my head. But I do feel like Jaune would get to a point he is just done and takes neo to find ilia. Again, that doesn't have to be what happens. Just feels like Jaune is nearing his breaking point with this s***.
Okay posting twice but it's time. Part 3. This time we have a double team. We got RK(Rainbow Knight) vs. BB(Bumblebee). Let's keep the opinions clean.
Team RWBY, NERO, Jaune, and Neo were on a mission. The mission was going smoothly until a significant Grimm attack. The team disposes of them immediately. However one was about to get the jump on Blake but then.
???: GET AWAY FROM HER!
The Grimm was pierced through by what looked reaper. But not just any reaper but an electric one at that. Blake recognizes the whip as she’s her old friend.
Blake: Ilia.
Ilia: Blake.
Ilia runs and gives her hug.
Ilia: It’s so good to see you.
Blake: What are you doing here? How did you find us?
Ilia: Well I asked the headmaster of Vacuo to tell me. But it was primarily because you sent a request for my assistance.
Blake: Wait so here under my father’s orders.
Ilia: Yeah. Speaking of the request, hi Jaune.
Jaune: Good to see you again Ilia. I take it you agree to my offer.
Ilia: Honestly I was shocked. Significantly since you dropped out on your old team. But I do have some questions. What the hell is going on?! Also, who are these two?!
Blake: Um-
Jaune: We’ll explain once we return to headquarters.
After the mission, everyone decided to talk about what had happened. Ilia was shocked. She learned about Robyn and Mantle. Ironwood plan. Penny. Now more about the war between Ozpin and Salem. However, she was kind of angry about one detail.
Ilia: So I just need to understand. I tried to kill you once and you forgave me but still wouldn’t let me in your group. However, this girl, Emerald, infiltrated and destroyed your school. Was willing to kill your friends and help your sworn enemy. Yet all of a sudden she is a good person now.
Blake: Okay you’re sounding like Jaune.
Ilia: Because there is no logic to this.
Jaune: Oh so I’m not crazy.
Ilia: Plus she only helped Oscar because Hazel allowed it.
Emerald: I saved him from Salem.
Ilia: And you almost died for it didn’t you?
Emerald: The effort counts.
Jaune: Yeah, I’ll admit it was better than trying to get him while running blind. Considering we had no way to track him down. Ren.
Ren: I just got the evolution Jaune, what more do you want from me?!
Ilia: Besides that, Blake, telling Robyn was a good idea.
Yang: Ha. Eat it Jaune.
Ilia: But.
Yang: But?
Ilia: Results speak for themselves. It went nowhere. In fact, that’s what made you criminals, or traitors. You went against protocol and acted out of line.
Blake: We have done it before.
Jaune: What were the results?
Blake: We succeeded!
Neo: *Points at her hat*
Ilia: Dang, even she calling bull crap.
Neo transforms into Roman as she explained how they got away from team RWBY once. She even describes how even though he was captured, he escaped and still caused more problems.
Emerald: Yeah can’t deny that.
Ilia: Also Blake, I’m sorry, doesn't this kind of undermine everything you’ve been through?
Blake: …
Ilia: Blake, remember Adam?
Blake: Robyn was different from Adam.
Ilia: How?! She stole from Atlas just as we did from the Schnee Dust Company.
Blake: She did for the people.
Ilia: Adam did for the Faunas and you still called him out on it.
Blake: Because he was doing it wrong.
Ilia: And Robyn wasn’t?
Yang: Look she was doing the best she could and robbing the military was her only option.
Ilia: … … I’m about to commit-
Jaune: Chill Ilia. Okay, so let's say she was right to do so. What would be the benefit?
Ilia: Yeah, true we did the same thing but the results were in us gaining some equilibrium and supplies. What benefit did it have for Mantle?
Robyn: That is a question I myself can answer.
Jaune: Woman when did you-
Robyn: I’ll explain.
Robyn explains her reason for stealing the goods from the military.
Jaune: So by stealing from the military you be fixing the wall.
Robyn: Yep.
Ilia: Selling the supplies for money?
Robyn: Yep.
Jaune: Providing more resources to Mantle.
Robyn: Yep.
Ilia: That is too much.
Robyn: What?
Ilia: That will take too long. At least with us, we had an army. You were only a mere four members.
Jaune: Plus who be the buyer? Who is willing to step up against the military besides you and a few other Atlassians. Not only that but your operation wouldn’t have lasted that long.
Robyn: How so?
Jaune: You're telling me if Fiona nor May were not with you the entire time, you would have managed to steal a lot of Atlas stuff?
Robyn: … Um.
Jaune: If May or Fiona were captured, what would you have done then? What would be your other solutions?
Robyn: … …
Jaune: …. … *deep breaths* I am regretting everything I’ve done.
Yang: Jaune-
Jaune: I lied to become a Huntsmen. My partner is dead. Penny is dead. Three- no four good men are dead! All because I followed the lead of four unstabled girls.
Weiss: Jaune-
Ilia: Schnee, I suggest you stay quiet. Let him have this.
Jaune: *laughs* oh my goodness. We single handily may have proved everything Cinder said to be true. Like none of us have been doing our jobs.
Ruby: Not true we-
Jaune: Ruby. Ozpin trusted your uncle to watch over his fall maiden. She got jumped and was about to die. He chose Pyrrha, a first-year to take her place.
Oscar(Ozpin): I gave her time.
Jaune: Not long! At least James had his maiden on guard and gave Winter time to think about inheriting the maiden powers. Not only that he was willing to tell the whole world about Salem, something we all agreed should be known. But we FUCKED ALL THAT UP! And the world is going to be more divided than ever.
Weiss: Jaune we -
Jaune: Weiss. We may have saved thousands of people but we destroyed a whole civilization. The most powerful nation. What does that tell everyone?! Oh, that Atlas has failed to defeat Salem, and once again no one is safe. People who may know about this may choose to side with her if it means she can fit their plans. Or promptly, survival.
Blake: Well we manage-
Ilia: Blake you divided the White Fang. Some of us still hate your family. Some may believe in Adam's ambitions or stills hate humans in general. In honesty Blake, our people might side with her. Especially after what I’m hearing that woman is no human or Faunus.
Jaune: And Salem has both creation and knowledge.
Ruby: Good news, she can’t use knowledge because Cinder used the last question.
Jaune: …. …. …. Ruby I’m about this close to insulting on mother’s grave. We used the relic of creation to create portals. Portals that sent us and thousands to Vacuo. So, here’s the question, if staff can create anything as long as you have a blueprint or a demonstration of what it looks like, can’t Salem ask it to create a new lamp, this time with no rules.
Ruby: … … Fuck my life.
Jaune: And back to Ironwood why didn’t we just run this by him. Hell we actually could have taken the city with us by simply asking to make a portal big enough for it to descend down. Never mind just portals we could have solved almost all of ours problems if we just used the staff correctly.
Ruby and Oscar(Ozpin): FUCK MY LIFE!!!
Jaune: *sigh* Ilia, do you still want to join this team?
Ilia: Sure. I’ve made mistakes.
Jaune: Thank you. I am honored to have you.

Winter prompt, dealer's choice: Snuggled up in a warm bed, unwilling to leave for the cold outside
Ren wakes first, early. She doesn't exactly mean to; they were out late last night, it was not uneventful, and she still feels the ache in her bones, the lingering chill and darkness, the scramble through stone passages and the murk and marsh of Lacewater, out to the Old Island, and finally back here to Vargo's house. Indeed, there's nothing more she wants than to roll over, pull the covers up, and go back to sleep until third sun at least, but she did promise Giuna that she would be over at the Traementis villa for breakfast, Tess and Pavlin are also coming later, and as ever, she has to be adept at switching the Rose for Alta Renata, even if the lines between her identities have blurred and vanished and there is nothing more or less than the simple truth: her, Ren, Arenza, Grey Serrado's wife and Derossi Vargo's knot-mate, and the men are lying to each side of her, dead to the world. Grey still smells faintly of the sewers. Vargo smells worse.
A smile twists up Ren's lip, despite herself, and she contemplates sending word to Giuna that breakfast can wait. She lets herself lie down again, stretching luxuriantly in the great bed; the three of them have started sleeping in it together quite often, and it's more and more of a threadbare secret, but she well knows the value and the currency of those, and a lifetime spent holding and hoarding them close is not easily cast aside. For one thing, they're still vainly trying to keep it from Arkady, not that it's going to last much longer, but Ren would prefer that it not be the knots' favorite bit of gossip. She doesn't know why. It's not like she's ashamed of it, of them. It's just... new, that's all. Tentative. She has trouble trusting it won't be taken.
"Ren?" Grey's voice comes hoarse and sleepy from her side, and he reaches up one hand for her. "Are you -- ?"
"Yes. Fine." After a pause, Ren lets herself relax again. The winter chill lies thick on the great bedchamber, she's not keen on starting the fire herself, and the diamonded-glass windows are laced with fine traceries of ice, elegant as the applique on a festival mask. She turns halfway to Grey and lets him hold her, rests her nose in the hollow of his collarbone, as Vargo continues to breathe deeply and slowly on her other side. At last, as the light continues to turn pale grey and she can hear movement elsewhere in the house and bells outside the window, Ren groans and tries to sit up. "I really should -- "
Both Grey and Vargo make beseeching noises and reach up for her, grabbing her by either arm even though Vargo still hasn't opened his eyes or given any other indication of being awake, and Ren bites another grin. She can't help it; she lets herself be pulled back down into the warmth of the bed and the devoted embrace of her boys, and in that moment, there is, indeed, nothing else she wants in the world.

Chapter 17: The Party (Part Three)
I shift my weight from one foot to the other, trying to get my blood warming through my bare feet and legs, as if the cold is the reason I suddenly feel all tingly. “I think we have more in common than we’d like. Stubbornness maybe most of all. And for some reason, the opportunity to get under each other’s skin is just…”
“Irresistible,” he finishes for me, proving his innate new ability to read my very thoughts. It’s as if he’s in my mind, trailing along the winding path of my words beside me.
“Precisely.” My mouth turns up in a bit of a smile before I can stop it.
Start from the beginning …
