Buckle up because I’m about to get sappy!! I dearly and truly love you guys. I love reading the tags people leave when I go to bed and when I wake up, I love seeing people I’ve never met gush about their obscure favorite Pokemon. I love people coming into my inbox to request Pokemon I hardly think about. I love hunting through my collection when someone places an order and finding as many of the Pokemon they want as I possibly can.
I’m not some big name behind this blog. I’m not an artist you’d recognize, I’m not a personality, I’m not any kind of name in any fandom. But I feel incredibly blessed that so many people have decided to follow me elsewhere, join my Discord, and help keep this blog a calming and welcoming space.
Truly, I love y’all. Keep up being yourselves. :)

can't take my eyes off you
Tumblr media
pairing. kuroo tetsurou x gn!reader
genre. fluff
wc. 1236........
warnings. HIGHLY self indulgent as usual, basically self ship coded but hopefully still entertaining and relatable, reader has confidence/self worth issues, sappy af, almost certainly has grammar mistakes
a/n. based on me hating being photographed irl. also why is writing so fun but so scary. TENSES ARE SO HARD
Tumblr media
“tetsurou. if you take one more goddamn picture of me, i swear i’ll—"
the sound of his phone camera capturing a picture cuts you off mid sentence, followed immediately by your huff of frustration.
"you'll what, hmm? you don't scare me."
he flashed you a big cheesy grin, all the while still pointing the camera at you. you scowl at him, ready to risk it all and attempt a lunge at his phone in order to stop this madness.
you hated having your picture taken and he knew it, but for some reason he chose to ignore that fact, as if possessed by the need to piss you off. he could be really good at that when he wanted to be.
as soon as you initiated your plan of attack, your hand getting tantalizingly close to the offending device, he pulled it just out of reach. hopelessly, you flopped back onto the bed, groaning in frustration.
“why do you hate me."
“now now. would my camera roll be full of someone i hate?"
“if you were planning to kill me, yea. besides, i dont think having hideous pictures of me is exactly helping your argument.”
he just rolled his eyes in response.
you heard the shutter sound once more while your defenses were down. the last straw.
before he had time to react, you grabbed the nearest blanket and covered your head with it, holding on tightly so that he couldn't expose you to humiliation all over again. you probably had a better chance of ruining his plans by hiding than by trying to overpower him anyway.
“hey! get back here!"
his attempts to uncover you were met with shrieks of protest and a tightened clutch on the blanket. not to mention a few wild jabs of your limbs into the air, which if he hadn't so skillfully dodged, might have hurt just a little.
“fine. time for me to look through these and admire the fruits of my labor."
you cringed at the thought of how the pictures looked. how you looked. most of them were probably blurry anyways because of the thrashing that you were doing to escape the lense, thank god.
maybe you could persuade him to get rid of them. maybe you could sneak into his phone later and delete them yourself. maybe—
“you're beautiful, you know."
all thoughts of treachery came to a screeching halt. after sitting there with your mouth open in shock for a good few seconds, you shook your head, moving the blanket with it.
“nuh uh."
“yuh huh."
“nope."
“without doubt."
his tone of finality made you want to scream your throat sore, but instead you lay there quietly, silently disagreeing with him again.
it was relatively quiet for far too long after that, with quiet cackles drifting over from the other side of the bed being the only sound you could hear from underneath your shield. presumably brought on by pictures that were extra stupid. not to mention revolting.
your thoughts were spiralling right along with your mood now, eyes almost welling up with tears, but you stubbornly pushed them back. it seemed ridiculous to get this worked up over something that wasn't necessarily that serious. kuroo was just trying to be playful and you knew that. it was hard not to feel this way, though, especially when it came to something that was such a big insecurity.
he sighed loudly, snapping you out of your head momentarily.
“can you please come out from under there? i swear the camera's not open. i put the phone down and everything.”
“liar."
“am not! i just wanna see your pretty face with my own eyes now."
you grumbled a weak protest before relenting.
“fine. but i swear if you—"
“would you just hurry up already."
“oh my god, alright."
you slowly pulled the blanket from your face, and you could see that he was telling the truth. for now at least. he was lying there right next to you, already staring, as if straight into your soul. god, you wanted to shrivel up and disappear immediately.
“it's rude to stare, you know."
“don’t care."
you felt so awkward and exposed, and the only thought in your mind now was getting out of this conversation.
you started to try and untangle yourself from the blankets and get up out of the bed, only to feel your own arm being pulled out from under you. falling back next to kuroo, you covered your face and made a noise of frustration.
the first thing you saw after pulling your hands from your face again were those amber eyes still fixed on you, a slight grin on that smackable face.
“ummmm, hello? can I leave?"
he shrugged.
“you can do whatever you want."
you tried to sit up and leave again, only to be pulled right back down next to him a second time.
“i- what's happening right now?”
“good question. i changed my mind, you don't get to leave anymore.”
you masked your face with a deadpan expression, only because you were desperately trying to avoid giving him the satisfaction of seeing you crack a smile.
“are you serious right now?"
“as the plague."
at that, you couldn't help but snort.
“and why is it that you're trapping me here?"
“i decided that you have to lie here and listen to me tell you why you're amazing."
“yea, sure, whatever you say."
“i really can make you a list if you want. although i think it would take less time to make a list of reasons why i don't like you."
“i pick that one."
“ha! nice try. hmm, now let's see... you're endlessly stubborn. quiet and standoffish with most people.”
you raised an eyebrow. maybe this wouldn't be so difficult after all.
“though still kind to everyone who deserves it. alluring. determined. passionate even when it's hard. you care so much that it's scary sometimes. ”
you avoided eye contact. okay. at this point you were starting to feel far too exposed again.
"you try way too hard to keep people at arm's length, but if they're lucky enough to be loved by you, they're taken care of whenever, wherever. you're smart, even if you don't think it's true. stunning as well as irresistible.”
when he said that, he caressed your cheek while you basically became one with the mattress.
“and so independent that it feels like you don't need me around sometimes. but also soft and gentle and giving.”
his voice had dropped almost to a whisper when he spoke those last words. at this point, your face was nearly burning off. you were almost sure that he could feel the heat radiating from you.
“okay, okay—"
“and, oh yea, did i mention beautiful? enough to be my wallpaper."
he picked up his phone and flashed it at you, a slightly blurry picture from not twenty minutes before illuminating the screen. you could tell he was proud of himself from the smug grin stretched across his face.
“you're an ass."
“come onnnnn, you love me, admit it.“
right then, your chest swelled with affection for him, so much that it felt like you could suffocate. still, you paused just long enough for him to start acting offended, before smiling softly and speaking quietly.
“yea, i really do. thank you, tetsurou.”

i’m having a sappy bones moment
What if, one day, Bones gets back to his quarters after the most exhausting, stressful day, only to find a stack of record tapes on his desk. As soon as he had made it in the door he had stopped trying to hold it together, the man was in shambles, and now there’s more work to do?? He’d take a minute to grumble and really try not to start crying, then go over to the desk to check out the tapes.
On the one from the top was a video recording of Sulu and Chekov, thanking him for everything he does for them when they get all scratched up on landing missions. They both told specific stories of when he really saved their asses, and how grateful they were. “We probably wouldn’t be here without you.”
He had smiled a bit, wondering if it was supposed to make him feel better about the extra work pinned on him before starting. He took the tape out and set it on the ledge behind him so he wouldn’t misplace it, then put the next tape in with a sigh.
The next one was more or less the same, though featuring Uhura and yeoman Rand. “You’re the only one who can keep the captain’s head above the water, doctor, and you’re the best one for the job.”
He was a little more taken aback by this. Was this whole stack just... thank you videos? After putting that tape behind him with the first one, he continued.
The next was the same. And the next, and the next. One from his own damn medbay, featuring nurse Chapel: “You may be CMO, but I can still give you orders to rest.” He hadn’t noticed he’d started to cry, only realizing when the tears were completely blocking his vision. Jim must’ve put more than a third of the crew up to this, he thought, stacking all the watched tapes up nicely again before moving on to the final one.
Although overjoyed, he didn’t feel deserving of the praise. He was a doctor, it was just his job! He was the one to fix others up, the one they could vent to. Sure, it got plenty stressful at times... but that’s what he signed up for, right?
The last tape was making him nervous. They seemed to be stacked in a specific pattern, but he hadn’t seen Jim or Spock yet.  Despite that, the last tape slid into place and his head went into his hands.
It was a view of the whole bridge, with everybody standing around Jim in his chair. Everyone had a word of encouragement to say, and by the end, everyone had but Jim and Spock- Spock spoke first.
“Doctor, you are undoubtedly the most essential member of this crew. A ship needs its captain, but a captain needs their doctor. You’re always looking after everyone else, always asking what’s on everyone’s minds, we realize you seldom get that treatment in return. We... I, sincerely hope our messages have gotten through to you.”
Bones was breathless. Praise, from Spock? He knew Spock respected him, but he wouldn’t expect him to say anything like that. Unprompted, that is. He rubbed his eyes with his sleeve as Jim started to talk.
“Bones, at this point it’ll sound boring and repetitive-”
“Not at all,” he whispered to himself. He didn’t know how much he needed this.
“But I’m saying it anyway. We love you. We appreciate you. We are so, so grateful we have you as our CMO, and as our friend. Please, Bones, get some rest. That’s an order. We love you.”
The video stayed paused on the last frame. Bones was looking down, head still in his hands, tears still rolling down his cheeks. A few silent minutes passed before the door opened, no preemptive chirp to ask for permission. In walked Jim, who came straight over to Bones and put his hand on his back. Bones didn’t look up.
“Thank you, Jim,” he said quietly. “You have no idea what that meant to me.”
“I’ve got a pretty good idea.”
There were a few beats filled with nothing but Bones’ shaky breathing.
“Bones, I’m, uh, not supposed to tell you this, so you can’t tell anyone you know, okay?”
Bones looked up, not saying anything.
“Spock planned all this, actually. He proposed the idea in the first place, organized everything, and had me go around and have everyone record their messages. But you didn’t hear that, and certainly not from me.” Jim smiled his sweet smile, but Bones couldn’t say anything. Spock did this? Why? That pointed eared devil had no reason.
“Spock did this?”
Jim nodded. “He said that a show of emotions would, ironically, be the most logical way to cheer you up.”
“Well, he was right, ‘n I hate admitting that. Thank him for me, will you? Since I didn’t hear any of that.”
Jim smiled, glad that the plan had worked exactly how they wanted it to. He and Spock knew Bones was going to keep the tapes safe and watch them whenever he needed a little boost. They knew Bones would never admit to the others that for once he was the one who needed help. “Of course.”

You don’t have to say you love me (I just wanna tell you somethin’) - Kevaaron
Aaron could have predicted that pretending to date Kevin Day to get back at Andrew would backfire. He just didn't think it would backfire like this.
Another present fic for @starsandgutters !!
It started off as irritation. A prickle of annoyance. After all, Aaron thought, why was his brother allowed to have his stupid little boyfriend who gave him sappy little looks and brushed his fingers when they thought no one was looking? When Andrew spent so much energy and time driving off each and every girl Aaron had ever even smiled at?
When he woke up to Josten curled up in Andrew’s bed, he felt the anger begin to simmer in his chest.
And when he finally walked in on them kissing, Aaron Minyard knew something had to be done.
***
“I’m sick of this.”
Kevin looked up at the slam of Aaron’s hands on the kitchen counter, a ghost of a wince startling him out of his intent perusal of a book — one that looked suspiciously like some kind of soapy dollar store romance. Aaron raised an eyebrow at the chiselled man with an Exy racquet slung across his shoulders plastered across the cover, and Kevin cleared his throat and flipped the book over.
“Sick of, uh, sick of what?”
“Them. Josten being all over Andrew.”
Kevin looked mildly disturbed. “You didn’t… they weren’t…”
Aaron mimed vomiting. Imagine walking in on that. “Oh god, no. They were just making out. But it’s pissing me off. At this point, I feel like they need a taste of their own fucking medicine.”
Kevin lifted a dark eyebrow, uncomprehending. “What do you mean?”
Aaron considered him over the top of his laced fingers.
It wasn’t Kevin’s fault that Aaron and Katelyn had tearfully decided several months ago that the sneaking around just wasn’t worth the effort — attempting to keep their relationship up at a distance wasn’t working, so they’d parted ways. And it also wasn’t Kevin’s fault that he was now the only one who wasn’t related to Aaron that he actually exchanged more than two regular words with.
But the plan that had been quietly brewing in the very back corner of Aaron’s head for several weeks now was, admittedly, immensely helped by Kevin being Kevin. The fact that it was Kevin — of anyone Aaron could hatch this particular plot with — would piss Andrew off like no other.
And ultimately, that was the utmost goal.
“Kevin, what if I were to tell you…”
***
“What.”
“Look, I’ll help you with studying. Or — or something. I don’t know, what do you want? I’ll get you merch for your favorite team. Something for Knox, or whatever? You can put it on your little shrine.”
“This is ridiculous,” Kevin said, but he suddenly looked a little pinker than he was before. “I don’t have a…a shrine.”
Aaron opened his mouth to make a comment about how he didn’t know what else the entire inside of Kevin’s wardrobe was supposed to be, but now was the time to let things like that go. “I know Andrew and Josten piss you off too. If they figured out they needed to chill out with each other, maybe they’d do more practice with you.”
Kevin looked to be considering the proposition, finally, narrowing his far-away eyes thoughtfully down at the shirtless Exy player, only slightly concealed on the counter by one hand. At last, he said haltingly, “Couldn’t you…ask someone else?”
The uncertainty was Aaron’s in. He pushed forward, throwing another Kevin bait into the mix. “If you do it, I’ll practice extra with you too.”
Kevin’s eyes narrowed again, snapping up to sharpen on Aaron’s face. He had him. “I don’t know if you could keep up.”
“Oh my god, you asshole, that’s the point. I’ll put in more effort, you can show me how.”
“You’ll join night practices?” Kevin tilted his head.
A twinge of nervous anxiety in Aaron’s stomach. “I mean, I can’t do it all the time, I have to study, because unlike the rest of you all, my classes actually matter outside of a minimum GPA. But sure, whatever. Sometimes I’ll let you drag me along. If you do this.”
“This is ridiculous,” Kevin sighed again, as he stuck out his hand for Aaron to shake.
“So is your book,” deadpanned Aaron.
(Though if he had to chew his lip nearly to bleed to bite back a smile when Kevin dove to escape with his smut novel with a sputter and a glare, it was no one’s business but his own.)
***
“Greek salad and the turkey sandwich, here you two are. Enjoy.”
Kevin was sporting a sour scowl strong enough to wilt the salad the cafe waiter had placed in front of him — like getting treated to lunch was the lowest part of his week.
Maybe it was, he’d probably prefer to carry out this plan on the court. After all, Kevin preferred to do most things on the court.
Now that Aaron thought about it, Josten preferred the same. Perhaps the next part of this plan could happen on the court. At least Kevin would look less like he wanted to be five miles away from him, which really ruined the entire point of this exercise.
“They usually get coffee here around this time, so we just need to be a little convincing when they show up,” Aaron muttered, once more glancing furtively over his shoulder for Andrew and his annoying redheaded shadow. “But before they get here, Kevin, you did agree to at least pretend to fake date me. Maybe drop the murder glare, it’s not very romantic.”
“What am I even supposed to do?” Kevin hissed, but his glare dropped in favor of the same flavor of embarrassment Aaron recognized from his Knox shrine, eyes darting to Aaron’s face and back away, on repeat.
Aaron scoffed. “You’ve dated before. You were dating — what’s her name, Thea, weren’t you?”
“Not like this,” Kevin mumbled, beginning to shred his napkin.
Aaron watched him shower paper confetti across the tabletop, biting back his own surprise. Granted, Aaron had only seen Thea once or twice before Kevin had ended things with her, and their relationship had never seemed anything like Aaron’s often short lived but whirlwind style romances. Kevin and Thea had read aloof power couple at best, and… dangerously close to toxic old Raven headspace for Kevin at worst.
But still… Kevin Day, unsure of dating. Unsure of himself. A strange sight indeed.
“Well. We’ll figure it out. First, here.” Aaron slid an open palm across the table, and Kevin stared down at it like it was a foreign object.
“Hold my hand. It’s not going to bite you.” No movement, but Aaron knew how to play to his audience. “Or are you not up to the challenge?”
Kevin huffed and slapped his hand down, clamping his fingers around Aaron’s wrist. His hand was very large, and enveloped most of Aaron’s, but the death grip was anything but amorous.
“Prime boyfriend hand holding, Day,” Aaron said dryly.
“Prime plan, Minyard,” Kevin parroted back, as he picked his fork back up, raising his eyebrow. “Have fun eating that sandwich with one hand.”
“Fuck you.”
“Not on the first date, honey,” Kevin smiled around his forkful.
“Oh, of course. I’ll wait til the second to jump you, I’m not a slut, sweetheart.”
The slight choke brought a wave of triumph, as Aaron also managed to pick up half of his slightly soggy sandwich and bit into it.
Kevin was giving him A Look, and Aaron flipped him off with his sandwich hand, smirking.
Even if he’d had another option for this plan, Kevin was fun to poke at. It had been a long time since they’d last properly talked. They rarely spent time alone — Andrew was the Minyard Kevin was most interested in. Aaron’s preoccupation with Katelyn and with his schoolwork had meant he’d rarely spent much time speaking to him, anyway, let alone trading snarky insults.
Kevin speared an olive and stared at it. “So… aside from… holding hands. What are we planning on doing?”
Aaron tried to cough down dry turkey. “We just need to fool Andrew into thinking we’re an item, it’s not that hard.”
“But what kind of terms, Aaron? How far are you expecting…oh shit.”

A Coops Sid's date. Pure fluff
Coops Wedding Part 3 is here! Post-wedding food (finally) and heading home together. Sweater Weather credit goes to @lumosinlove, as always <3
Preparations II Part 1 II Part 2
TW for flirty Coops
Sid’s was quite empty for a Thursday night in the summertime, which Sirius was eternally grateful for as they headed to their usual booth, slinging jackets over their chairs and tangling their legs together under the table with identical sighs of relief. Remus reached across the tabletop and laced their fingers together, tracing the lines of Sirius’ palm without looking away from his face.
His once-perfect bowtie hung loose around his neck, crooked even when untied; Sirius tugged one end, skewing it a bit more. “Cutie.”
“You are,” Remus said with a slight smile.
Just as Sirius was about to fire back with something equally sappy and romantic, a shadow fell over the side of the table. “Hey, guys, what can I get for you?” Nate asked as he dug his notepad out of his apron. “The usual?”
“Sounds great. How’ve you been, Nate?”
Nate shrugged. “Not bad, not bad. The summer rush is helping me save up for grad school, which is nice.” He gestured to their suit jackets with his pen. “Special occasion?”
“Yeah, we just got back from a wedding,” Remus said casually.
“Really? Whose?”
“Ours.”
Nate’s pen clattered onto the table as his jaw fell open; he glanced between them, speechless, and Sirius bit his lip to hold down his laughter. “You—your wh—you got married?”
They shushed him in unison and he held both hands over his mouth. “It was a small ceremony, just friends and family. We’re waiting to see how long it takes the media to find out.”
“That’s incredible,” Nate whispered, sniffling. “Oh my god. Fuck, congratulations.”
Sirius grinned, feeling the happiness bubble up in his chest again. “Thanks, man. It’s still sinking in, to be honest.”
“No, yeah, absolutely.” Nate shook his head for a moment before picking his notepad back up with a quiet huff. “Jesus. This is amazing. Pizzas are on the house for the newlyweds, okay?”
“Aw, Nate, you don’t have to—”
“It’s restaurant policy,” he interrupted, already moving toward the kitchen. “I can’t break the rules!”
“That’s not a rule,” Remus muttered as Nate disappeared behind the swinging doors. “That kid’s about to get the nicest tip of his goddamn life.”
“Mhmm.” Sirius guided Remus’ face back to him with a finger under his chin and kissed him slowly, sighing at the softness of his lips. He tasted like champagne, with a little bit of sweetness left from the wedding cake. “Sugar.”
“Is that a new nickname?” Remus asked as he transferred some weight to his elbows for a better angle.
“Could be. D’you like it?”
“Hmm.” A warm palm covered the side of Sirius’ neck. “It’s not bad. ‘Sweetheart’ works fine for me, though.”
“How about ‘husband’? ‘Husband’ sounds pretty good. Mon mari.” Remus blushed and tilted his face to the side, rubbing their cheeks together for a moment. “Quoi? C’est bien?”
Remus rolled his eyes, but he was hiding a smile. “You know I’m weak for the French.”
“I do.” Sirius kissed the inside of his wrist lightly. “Hey, that’s the second time I’ve said that today.”
“Yeah?”
“Yep. First time was better, though.”
Remus laughed and pulled him in for another kiss, combing the pads of his fingers through the curls just above Sirius’ ear. They stopped when the kitchen doors creaked open, but kept their foreheads together until Nate arrived with their food.
“Enjoy,” he said, practically glowing with excitement as he handed them napkins and utensils. “Congrats, again. I’m really happy for you guys. Have an amazing night.”
“Will do.” Remus smiled as he hurried back to the register, then reached for a slice of pizza and practically shoved the entire thing into his mouth. “Fucking hell, this is good.”
Sirius groaned in agreement, letting his eyes fall closed as the soft crust warmed him from the inside out. “This is the best part of my day.”
“Is it?”
“Yep. We’re married, we’re done with the party, and now there’s actual food to eat.” He held his fingers up to count. “Checking all my boxes.”
“Good point.” Remus stole a piece of pepperoni off one of his slices and Sirius made a noise of protest, only to pull a face when Remus set a bit of pineapple on the edge. “What? It’s a fair trade.”
Sirius glared playfully at him over the next slice, then hurried to catch the long string of cheese that slid free from the rest of the slice with a muffled yelp of distress.
“Do you need a hand?” Remus asked, clearly amused as he passed him an extra napkin.
“Uh-uh. I got it.” It took a second, but Sirius managed to get it all into his mouth without snorting pizza sauce through his nose as they both broke down laughing. “Another successful mission.”
“You’ve got pizza grease on your lip,” Remus said, reaching over to dab at the corner of his mouth with a napkin.”
“Thanks, love.”
They ate in relative silence for a few minutes, too focused on the hot food that they could finally enjoy without interruption; Sirius glanced at the wall clock and was astounded to see they had made it over ten hours since their last proper meal. No wonder he was so hungry.
“It felt weird sleeping alone last night,” Remus remarked once their plates were clean and Sirius wasn’t in immediate danger of getting hangry.
“I know, right?” Under the table, Sirius ran the side of his foot up Remus’ calf. “Super strange. We haven’t slept separately in months.”
“Mhmm.” Remus’ pupils dilated, and he was pretty sure it wasn’t just from the low light. “It was fun staying the night with the cubs, though.”
“Yeah?” Sirius pressed a little harder on the inside of his knee and Remus gripped his napkin.
Amber eyes flickered around the restaurant before settling on Sirius. “Baby. What are you doing?”
Sirius shrugged. “Nothing.”
“Really?” Remus raised an eyebrow and Sirius’ breath hitched as a hand squeezed the top of his thigh.
“I think we should head home.”
“Good plan.”
Thanks to Nate and his made-up rules, there was no bill to settle, but they left a tip anyway and made sure to say goodbyes to the familiar staff as they headed back to the car. If Sirius let Remus go through the door first for the express purpose of coping a feel without being seen by the other patrons, that wasn’t anyone’s business but their own.
“You are such a—” Remus’ teasing insult was cut short by hands curling into the front of his shirt and pulling him over the console as lips connected to his own in a far less chaste manner than before. “Well. Alright, then. Home?”
“Home,” Sirius confirmed, grinning as he started the car. It was impossible to not feel smug when he managed to bring that particular shade of pink to Remus’ neck and ears. Despite the anticipation in his stomach, he took the longer route, watching the shining lights of the city turn Remus’ face every color of the rainbow. “I love you.”
“I love you, too.” Remus glanced over and rested his temple on the window, tracing a small circle on the back of Sirius’ hand; a small smile tilted his mouth in that perfect, off-center way. “We’re married. That’s super fucking cool.”
“It is,” Sirius laughed. His cheeks were starting to hurt in the best way. “I’m never going to get tired of hearing you say that.”
“And I’ll never get tired of saying it.”
They reached the house a few minutes later, and Sirius’ heart leapt when he saw the front steps. “Wait!” he called, scrambling out of the car and grabbing Remus around the waist before he could go to the front door.
“What?” Remus asked, looking mildly alarmed until Sirius swept him into his arms. “Wh—really?”
“Please?” He pressed a quick kiss to Remus’ nose, then another to his forehead, again and again until Remus was laughing too hard to speak. “Please, please, please—”
“Okay, okay!” He draped his arms around Sirius’ neck and held on tight as he walked up the steps. “Do you have the keys?”
“Back pocket.” Remus reached around to get them and Sirius jumped when he felt a light smack as well. “Oh?”
Remus just kissed his cheek and unlocked the door, pushing it open with one hand. Hattie was having a sleepover with the Dumais’ for the night, thankfully; Sirius shuddered to think of what would happen if she collided with his legs in this vulnerable state.
“Ready?” Remus asked quietly, snuggling closer against his chest.
Sirius took a deep breath and stepped over the threshold, careful not to knock Remus into either side of the frame. He had crossed that little line a thousand times, maybe a million, but as they entered the dark house in dance-wrinkled suits with matching rings on their fingers, he felt a new chapter in the story of their life open up. The first of that particular volume, in fact.
He had the feeling it would be a good one.

Don’t jump to conclusions
pairing: eren jaeger x fem!reader, armin Arlert x fem!reader
genre: modern au, fluff and a bit of angst if you look hard enough
word count: 5.7k+
warnings: non
summary: eren has a tour so he’s leaving for three months, you’re absolutely broken but that feeling fades when armin comes over to stay at your place; however, eren isn’t too okay with that idea.
Tumblr media
The wind advances through my hair, the jet black locks flowing loosely. It felt magical. However, nothing good ever lasts, they say, and they're right. Eren is leaving. He’s got a huge offer in England to work for this huge band, he's really exhilarated about it and couldn't pass it off, not to mention that it was only a global tour; nonetheless, i'll miss him drastically.
He reminded me constantly that it’s only three months and that he'll be back in the blink of an eye. I know it won't be like that though, nothing will be like that. I’ve always done everything with him, even before we got together he, armin, mikasa, annie and I were always hanging out. Me and eren were always more than childhood friends though, we both knew that, he took me on our first date when we were 14. I remember  it just like it was yesterday, him anxiously fidgeting as if I would reject him. That date was the first of many.
“Baby,” he starts as he lifts his hand from my thigh and to my hand that was on the light pink bag. He gently caresses the back of my hand as he raises it to his lips and an immediate smile sneaks it’s way to my lips. He is such a sappy romantic but I swoon for it.
“I know you don't like the fact that I have to leave, I don't too, baby. But please promise that you won't lock yourself up in the apartment till I come back. I need you to be okay, i cant handle the fact of you being devastated in our apartment.” he smiles lightly against my skin as he keeps kissing up my arm. Till he reaches my shoulder then I scoot closer to him, pressing my lips against his.
He pulls away quickly after a few seconds to keep an eye on the road and I smirk seeing his distressed face. “Baby, we’re on the road!” he whines and I chortle once again as he does too.
For the rest of the ride I mostly sit there ‘vibing with the music subconsciously as Eren keeps a hand on the steering wheel and the other holding his cigarette. His arm extends to rest on the window as he occasionally bends his arm to bring the cigarette to his mouth then back onto the window. He’s always been thoughtful, caring about my health a little more than he should. He’s so protective, whenever he was smoking he wouldn't allow me in the room and he’d tell me to exit till he’s done, seeing as it is not an hourly thing or is something that repeatedly happens, I leave him.
The music carried me as I started falling asleep. I rested my head against the window and both my hands were left against my bag. He then, quite gently, takes one of my hands to attach his lips to it once again. I swear, he makes my knees weak with every move and I’m not even standing.
“I love you so much y/n, please I’m begging you to take care of yourself, I don’t know what I’d do if you didn’t.” He tranquilly whispers while taking my hand to his lips one more time then letting them go -very gently- he would never hurt me, I know that.
Slowly, I swirl around to indicate that I’m waking up and I sense his immediate guilt forming, thinking he woke me up.
“‘We there yet?” I ask quietly. He hums, demonstrating a yes.
“Yeah, just got here.” His soft voice radiated immediate warmth towards me. Being next to him makes me so happy, I don’t want that to end, ever.
After hearing his words I stretched a bit then took the water bottle from the handle and took a sip of it when Eren suddenly hit the brakes. The cold water that was once flowing down my throat, is now all over my red outfit.
“That guy just stopped out of-“ he quickly cut himself off when he saw my soaked status.
“Oh my God, baby I’m so sorry, are you okay?” quickly, he tried to get tissues and I giggled lightly.
“Don’t worry, it’s just water, It’ll dry in the chilly weather anyways.” He calmed down and I smiled at his actions. He’s such a caring person, I don’t know what I’ll do without him.
“Okay and…” he put an arm on my seat as he tried to park correctly. I smile as I take in his features, the white lights illustrating his demeanor. Gray piercing eyes glowing illuminatingly in the moon, he looked so handsome like that. With me. Next to me. Not away from me on the other side of the world.
“Done, let’s go, actually you stay here and I’ll move my bags, you can just get ready.” He knows that before I get out of the car I like to do a few things, it takes me three minutes to get ready.
“Okay, I love you.” I chant as he smiles at me.
“I Love you more, gorgeous.” A blush forms on my cheeks at the cute nickname he gave me and I grin while looking at the mirror to get ready.
I fix some of my makeup then spray extra perfume. Once I’m done and feel satisfied I get out of the car only to see Eren already down with all two bags out.
“Okay so these are the bags that I’ll let them take then this one,” he points to a smaller bag, “I’ll take with me on the flight, good?” I nod and walk over to him wrapping my hands around his neck.
“I love you.” I remind once again and he chuckles lightly then kisses my nose.
“I love you more.”
——————-——————-——————-————-
“That’s it, I guess now I should go.” I said softly as he was showing his passport to the lady who let him in. This was the furthest I could go, I despise that.
“I’ll miss you so much, princess.” He smiles at me and I give him a sweet one back, God I’m going to miss him so much.
“Yeah, me too.” With one hand on my waist, the other lightly touches my cheek and I sigh contently at his movements, I don’t want this to ever end. His thumb rubs over my bottom lips and I instantaneously attach our lips together.
After a few seconds we both pull away and I sense tears threatening to leave my eyes. “I don’t want you to leave, Eren please don’t leave me.” I felt horrible about how selfish I am being but I was just voicing my inner thoughts, I really don’t want him to go.
“Angel…” he cooes and I feel a tear rip from my left eye. The salty, cold droplet against my skin creates a burning sensation. “You know that if that’s really what you want I can arrange it, right? If you don’t want me to go then just say it and I’ll tell them to find a drummer.”
My thoughts become clouded by supplemental cologne. I felt dizzy just hugging him. He leaned down, inching closer to me and kissed my lips.
The act of affection didn't surprise me but with tears in my eyes it was hard to focus on the kiss, so I didn't. I got lost in it.
“N-no, uh…” I stutter as I wipe my tears backing away from him completely, “I'm sorry, baby, I'm okay; plus, you have to follow your dreams, I am in no way going to stop you from that.” I smiled and he nodded lightly as he held my waist and pulled me into another hug.
After a few seconds, whilst tugging away he grabs my check and hands a light peck on my forehead.
“See you, handsome.” I chant and he laughs slightly at my enthusiastic tone.
“I’ll call you when I get there, pretty girl.” he chuckles then throws a wink my way as I fake a smile, afterwards I pull my eyes from his direction as they start to swell up with unstoppable tears.
——————-——————-——————-————-
I throw my shoes on the bedroom floor, my skirt and shirt along with it. On my bed lies an oversized hoodie, belonging to eren. I believe he left it here on purpose, for me. Without a second thought I put it on, feeling pleased with the warmth.
Just as I am about to finally close my eyes to sleep my phone rings in an obnoxiously loud way causing me to flinch and sigh heavily. “‘My baby💘👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩 & miss hottie💞🥵 & gorgeous girl💕👩‍❤️‍👩 group chat....”’ I smile slightly at my phone seeing the screen and instantaneously grab my phone to answer.
“Heyy!” I intone and the three females wave at their screens.
“Hey y/n!” Historia exclaims as I smile at her zeal while she talks with me about her day. Mikasa is sitting there listening with the same bored expression on her face, on the other hand, Annie is quite invested in whatever is behind her screen. I’ll take a wild guess and say that she’s also listening to Armin and that's why she’s muted.
“Yeah, but overall it was quite boring, although Mikasa did prank me but that’s a different story.” She laughed and I did too. She’s so adorable. I love her innocence and that pretty smile of hers, it makes me so happy knowing I'm one of her best friends.
Historia and Mikasa are roommates; when they both wanted the same apartment yet found it to somehow cost a lot of money they decided on splitting the rent.
“God I can only imagine one of Mikasa’s pranks, I would honestly just faint, you’re scary as hell.” I add and all four of us chuckle as Mika glares at me but eventually crakes up with us.
After a while I check the time ‘11:16’ it reads, that means we’ve been talking for two and a half hours. I can't stall for sleep anymore.
“Guys, I'm gonna go to sleep now.” I question and they all nod consecutively.
“Love you, bye.” after i get i love you too’s from all of them i press the large red button covering my phone as it takes over the screen with a bright red making me squint lightly.
I change my LED lights to green, get under the blankets and slip my legs round the pillow as I shift into a more comfortable position.
“‘Ocean boy💙📖’ ‘Ocean boy💙📖’ ‘Ocean boy💙📖’” siri chants as i groan once again, armin your timing could not be more impeccable!
“Hello?” I answer with a grumble as I hear him chuckle lightly. He’s actually making me feel better by just hearing his voice.
“Asleep, sweetheart?” I nod but then remember that he can’t actually see me so I just let a light ‘mhm’ out as I shift again. Me and Armin's late night calls last endless hours so I'll be here for a while.
“Well, I won't keep you up too long, just wanted to ask if I can come over right now?” a smile makes itself onto my face and i eagerly answer,
“Of course, you’re always welcome at any time, that’s kind of why you have my keys, idiot.” he laughs at my retort and hangs up. That was quick… too quick.
I was also kind of expecting a reason as to why he’s spending the night here but I guess I'll get that when he comes over.
——————-——————-——————-————-
The sunshine radiated bright light into my eyes, stingin it ever so slightly. I stretch a bit when I feel a body lying next to me. An ample of cologne fills my nose; ‘212 vip black extra’, I can recognise it from miles away.
“Armin?” I mumble, still half asleep.
“Yeah?” he groans when I move a minor step away, “no, please i am finally able to sleep, stay.” he pouts so I giggle then get back under the covers.
After some minutes passing I pry myself away as I replace my body with a pillow.
“I can notice the difference between a pillow and you, sweetheart.” he chuckles, still lethargic and I grin at his comment but let him sleep as I get to the kitchen to cook breakfast up.
“‘Forever and always💓💍’ facetime ‘forever and always💓💍’ facetime ‘forever and always💓💍’ facetime” my phone annotates what’s written on the screen and my face lit up almost instantly.
I answer and put the phone against a bowl so I can check on the pancakes. “Hey, beautiful.” I hear his voice say, already feeling the smirk forming on his face, because of my blush,  even from millions of kilometers away.
“Hey, baby.” I answer as I set the timer and take a piece of gum as I start leaving the kitchen to sit on the couch.
“How was the flight?” I ask randomly as I see him tidying up his bed so he can go to sleep.
“Energy-consuming but it went smoothly, want to say hi?” I nod rapidly as he chuckles.
“y’all, say hi to y/n.” He announces and I wave at ymir, pieck, Sasha and Connie, they all do the same whilst smiling kindly.
Sasha ( the lead singer) is nibbling on some chips whilst her laptop is open, some light noise is heard so i'm assuming she’s on netflix. Ymir (band leader and lead Guitarist) is on facetime with someone, probably historia, and she’s also making her bed for bed. Connie (rhythm Guitarist) has his head on Sasha's lap, watching whatever she’s watching to probably entertain himself, nothing more, it looks as if he’s bored though. Pieck (bassist) is on her guitar playing loosely on some strings - probably out of fatigueness.
“Hey girl.” Sasha greets and I blow her a kiss.
“Hi y/n.” ymir accosts then goes back to historia quickly.
“Love, how are you?” Pieck salutes with a smile and her accent brings happiness over me, finally I can hear my best friend talk to me again. She was never free and especially now with the tour but at least I got to hear her again.
“y/n! How have you been? I've missed you, y/n/n.” Connie welcomes with a rhapsodic tone, he even called me by my nickname, which hardly anyone does.
“Hey guys, I'm doing great and I've missed you so much more, I can't wait to celebrate your tour when you come home.” I told them, they all smiled at me and thanked me as eren got out of this room and to his. They’re in a hotel until he is able to actually start the tour, which should be in two days tops.
“I miss you already.” I flatter. He laughs and then tells me ‘I miss you too’ in addition to that he, and I quote, ‘can’t live without me for that long’.
“And here I am thinking I am the one who’s going to be clingy.” he rolls his eyes at my sassy comment and we both burst out laughing.
“Y’all are way too loud.” I hear Armin groan from behind me as I laugh at his comment. Looking back at Eren, I see his face drop, I don't understand why though.
“Look, y/n, i’ll talk to you in the morning.” he quickly states and i give him a weird look but comply.
“Oh, okay then, I lo-” he hung up. There has never been one call where we didn't end it with affection, with one too many i love you’s, with too many compliments, with too many hope your day is absolutely amazing’s… what’s wrong?
“Good morning, sweetheart.” Armin says and I smile at him.
“Good morning, sleepyhead.” he chuckles as i see him making two cups of coffee.
“It’s fine, I can make it. I was going to but eren called, you can just go watch something if you want.” I say as I walk up to the kitchen, but the two cups was already smelling fantastic. The smell of strong coffee beans was immaculate and it made me feel warm.
“Here.” he hands me my cup and a quick kiss on the forehead before grabbing a fork and flipping the pancakes that I forgot about completely. That is exactly why I let Eren cook everyday.
“Oh my- I’m so sorry armin, I’m horrible at this cooking thing.” I apologize laughing lightly to not sound too serious.
“Don’t worry, I do it for Annie everyday. Got used to it, sweetheart.” I nod and smile as he drinks the coffee in his hand whilst mailing breakfast and I just check Instagram.
~Jeagerbomb~ is active.
Why would he do that? Wherefore would he lie to me like that? I don’t even get why he’s so mad either, why is he making a big deal out of literally nothing!
“Hey, sweetheart, what’s with the long face?” Armin asks as he slouches next to me.
“Eren is ignoring me, he’s clearly active yet he wouldn’t talk to me because he ‘wants to sleep’ but he’s awake and scrolling through instagram,” i take a deep breath and keep going, “this is exactly what i was afraid of. I hate that he can just turn off our call at any time and I can't disagree and then not knowing what he’s doing all alone. But when we’re together I can get it out of him, I can convince him to tell me why he’s mad then we’ll fix it.”
“y/n, Eren won’t stay mad at you for long, he never can. In the morning call him and check if everything is alright but for now you can’t be upset the whole day.” he reassures and I nod quietly.
“Enough about my problems, I want to know why you called me in the middle of the night like that and then said that you were finally able to sleep?”
“Me and annie got into a huge fight.” he explained, fidgeting with his fingers that were on his lap, “i tried fixing it but she wouldn’t listen to me, she kept saying how i don’t love her anymore and that she feels me drifting apart…” he zoned out for a second probably remembering exactly what happened.
“She even accused me of cheating on her.” I could see the tears sliding down his check as he quickly wiped them. “I love her, y/n, I really do, I don't understand why she doesn't trust me. I have never given her a reason not to, I mean, did I do something?"
Armin looks heartbroken and it kills me that he feels like he did something wrong. Annie might be feeling insecure but it doesn't make sense to just lash out on armin like that.
“Why does she think you’re cheating?”
“I came home late yesterday and she automatically assumed the worst, I don't follow her logic though, she’s been very insecure lately which is driving me crazy. I just want her to trust me, y/n.” Practically feeling the tears he was letting go of, I hugged him tightly hoping to make him feel only a bit of reassurance.
“Armin, I hope you don't mind me asking but why did you come home late?” he shuffled in his seat and let go of me.
“I was looking for a gift for our 2 year anniversary coming up this Wednesday, I couldn't tell her though, I kept begging her to just have some trust in me. It hurt seeing how easily she thought I could cheat on her. I give Annie everything I have and can give her, I don't know how else to prove my love to her.”
“I know Armin, I know, it's okay. Annie isnt stupid, she knows you would never do that to her, just give her sometime.” he nods and we stay in that position. It’s relaxing. Knowing that he is here for me, and me for him.
We spent the whole day together in my house. We did all kinds of things, sang a bit, danced around, baked up some brownies, had too many energy drinks and tried to call Annie but she didn't answer.
Once it was 09:30 pm, Armin went into the shower and I was on my phone, waiting for him so we could go buy some things from the grocery shop.
Scrolling through instagram i saw an article concerning Eren, normally i hated these but it actually caught my attention; ‘Eren Jeager seen with co-star Pieck Finger’. I can almost hear my heart thumping inside of my throat. It burns, badly. That isn’t true, it can’t be, Eren loves me. My first instinct is to call him but that thought is forgotten when Armin comes out of the shower, asking for something. He was still in a towel, one that covers his waist and the other around his hair as he moves it throughout.
The veins in his arms protruded beneath his pale skin, he’s drying his hair with the towel, clasping and unclasping his hand as an indication of comfort as he slid the towel on his hair down and into the laundry bin.
“y/n, where’s my shirt?” he asks whilst his eyes are darting around. I nuzzled my face into the soft pillow case, tear stained cheeks leaving wet smears on the fabric.
“You’ll find it on the kitchen counter.'' I sniffle lightly and hope he doesn't notice my broken voice. It was late, almost 10:00 pm and I'm here; curled in a loose ball under a stack of velvety blankets breaking down. I pulled the t-shirt I'm wearing over my nose as I heard him mutter a ‘thank you’ then get out to get changed.
Taking a deep inhale and drowning myself in the sweet scent of my boyfriend’s t-shirt, or atleast, I hope he’s still my boyfriend. The t-shirt was one that he said was his favourite, it’s scent drove me fanatical as I kept taking more of it in, hoping all my worries would just fade into it.
“Incoming call from ‘jaegerbomb’,Incoming call from ‘jaegerbomb’,Incoming call from ‘jaegerbomb’”
Hesitantly, my fingers scanned the phone a couple of times before I answered.
“Hey, y/n'' I hear from the other side of the phone. His voice doesn’t sound too enthusiastic but he also didn't seem bothered. No emotion.
“Hey, Eren.” I answer back and the line goes dead silent. He doesn't talk for about a minute, why did he call if he was just going to breathe into the phone the whole time?
“Oi, y/n, I still can’t find my shirt.” Armin approaches and my eyes go wide at what he says. This may be totally normal because I understand what’s happening but eren on the other hand, may understand it in a different way.
“Oh, try the living room.” he nodded and strolled away. I can practically hear Eren trying to control his temper because of what he heard but I know my answer assured him to some extent. I mean, I wouldn't answer armin if i was actually cheating.
“y/n what’s armin doing at your place?” The vexation is visible in each syllable he pronounces.
“He got into a fight with Annie last night, decided to stay at my place till they’re fine again.” I elaborate with insureness in my voice. I'm trying to sound as confident as possible but my throat becomes too dry to form assertive words.
“Couldn’t he stay in reiner’s or even Mikasa’s?” The annoyance was quite conspicuous as he keeps complaining.
“Eren! I can't kick him out because you’re somehow jealous, he is our best friend and in need of a place to stay. What would you do if I kicked you out?”
“Not stay at Annie's…” he mumbles and that was the last straw for me.
“Excuse me?” I semi-yell into the phone, “are you saying that I should kick him out? Eren, he trusts me enough to tell me about his problems and for me to cooperate, how dare you even say that about your childhood best friend. He has been there for you every step of the way and this is how you repay him? By being a jealous boyfriend when he’s hurting?” exasperation ran through my blood as i let it out, he is being so unreasonable and i will not stand by this behavior.
“y/n, calm down! I’m just saying that it’s weird that he came to you. I don't like the idea of this happening without your boyfriend supervising.”
“You don't trust me?”
“What? No that’s not what I'm saying, I trust you y/n, wholeheartedly.”
“However, you have the audacity to say that you need to supervise me and armin’s hangouts?”
“Don't be like that, I don't mean it that way. I trust both of you, nonetheless, it just scares me that I'm not there, I mean…” he stops for a few seconds and I somehow make out a sniffle, “baby, what if you fall for him again? I wouldn't blame you, he's everything I'm not but I just don't want you to go. Please y/n, I don't want you to leave me.”
“Eren,” my tone immediately softens at his change, he’s feeling insecure?
“I love you, okay?”
“Okay…”
“No, I mean it. I love you more than i love myself and any human on this earth, i love you so much eren and i would never trade this for anyone else. I promise I'm not going anywhere, baby.” it shattered me, the fact that i have to say this to remind him how in love with him i am. He’s my everything, I would never give that up for any other human.
“I love you, angel.”
“I love you more.”
——————-——————-——————-————-
After me and eren caught up on everything else, assured each other and talked over some stuff, we ended the call as he was getting called into rehearsals.
“Hey, y/n.” I hear Armin's soft voice speak from behind the door as he slowly comes in and I let him enter. He is fully dressed but his hair is still wet and it looks really cute on him.
When eren mentioned me falling for armin ‘again’ he meant when we were both best friends long ago. Five years ago, I had the biggest crush  on Armin, it was known. Everyone knew it, even he did but we never confessed to one another, too cowardly to do so. I know he used to like me back though. We joke about the situation now, a small laugh; yet, eren never got over it. He always took it quite personally because Armin is ‘everything he isn't’ in his eyes. He’s always been insecure about that but I thought he trusted me, I thought he would let go of these worries if it’s me we’re talking about. I figured out worries are worries and he’ll feel that way. The only thing I can do is assure him and help him.
“Yeah?” I answer as I reopen twitter to have a chortle before going to bed.
“I'm sorry, for everything. Being a burden on both you and eren, for what happened with Annie, with how I'm disappointing you guys and everyone else. I'm so sorry.” The break in his voice was sorrowful as his eyes diverted the gaze from me to anything else around the room.
“No, oh my God. Armin you aren't a burden and definitely disappointing anyone. Annie is mad, for an invalid reason, it’s fine. If you heard anything, which I'm guessing you did, eren was also just furious with an invalid reasoning. And to me you are nowhere near a burden or such. Don't doubt yourself, ever.”
“Thank you, y/n. Thank you for all of this, making me stay over and your constant affirmation.” I smile slightly at him and get out of bed to hug him. We stay in the position for what feels like hours, his hands on my waist, my arms slung around his neck.
When we pull apart he looks into my eyes for a few seconds, his ocean blue eyes glowing enchantingly. They were beautiful, trancing, and I couldn't stop myself from being so intrigued by the stories behind them.
Suddenly, I snap out of the stupor I was once in. quickly, i push him away as we both pant lightly, the air seemed to become limited in the room as we both gain back our consciousness.
“y/n-”
“Armin-uh. I think I'll go to bed early. If you can't find anything in the fridge you’re welcome to go to the hypermarket. Goodnight.” he looks at the floor quietly as he moves out of my room.
I'm screwed.
I can't believe we just had a moment. No, absolutely not, just two friends hugging, that’s all. Eren will despise me, how can I be such a hypocrite? I have to tell him, I just have to.
Never mind, I won't tell him, he doesn't need to know anyways.
Silent. The room was cleansed and cleaned top to bottom whilst I was asleep. The lights are renewed, I can smell pastries from downstairs and (this next one is a shock) no one is sleeping next to me.
“Armin?” I call out loudly yet no one answers.
I get up, rubbing my eyes before noticing the large cup of hot coffee on my nightstand. The steam flowing, making sure to inform me that it was just made and brought to me.
Taking the cup of coffee in my hand, I saunter down the stairs deciding to take a sip of the perfectly made coffee. He made it just right and the way I like it, but it scares me knowing that after what happened yesterday night he still did it for me. Is he catching feelings again?
“Sweetheart, hey.” I cringe slightly at the name and I can practically feel his heart race at my reaction. He’s right here in front of me, calling me sweetheart and cooking breakfast after what happened yesterday? Unacceptable.
“I mean-- y/n.” it’s no secret he’s mentally face palming himself right now but i honestly find it adorable that he did that by just seeing my reaction.
“y/n, I'm sorry. I don't know what happened yesterday but I know that you’re infuriated by it and now won't talk to me. You even hate ‘sweetheart’ and I've called you that since we were like what? 14? I just don't want things to get weird between us, you’re my best friend, eren is my literal brother and Annie is my girlfriend. I just hope you aren't mad at me. I swear I'm not going to try anything of any sort. I'm going to Mikasa and Historia's place after breakfast, just wanted to do something as a thank you before i leave.” he ranted and i giggles softly when he finished, he;s so flustered by the time he’s done i find it a miracle he remembered to breath.
“Armin, you can stay as long as you want, honestly, don't worry about what happened. In fact, nothing happened at all, we’re best friends and I don't want to lose that. The nickname is very much acceptable, don't worry, I know you’re used to it.” he smiled and nodded then pulled me into a mug as i hugged back as the coffee mug in my hand jiggled.
We lug back from each other and beam at one another. Nothing wrong happened yesterday, why am I so worried?
——————-——————-——————-————-
“How was your day, angel?” Eren's deep voice filled my ear as I held the phone in a hand, the other picking out jewelry.
“Uneventful, me and Armin just spent the day together, Annie isn't answering him and he’s too scared to actually go there in case she kicks him out again or, worse,  breaks up with him.”
“I feel bad for him, I mean he didn't do anything really, maybe he should really go and test his luck.”
“Yeah, I think that’s the best option right now. He's trying to get ready, asked for a couple of your rings ‘cause he knows it’s something she likes.” he chuckles on the other end as a light laughter comes over me.
“Really want to swoon her over.”  he adds
“Found it!” i exclaimed as i found the set of rings that were just perfect for armin, they fit him perfectly and his style too, “Okay, let’s find him now.”
“Armin?” he pops into my room within a second with a tux put on (it looked really nice, may i add), he really cleaned up well; yet, his hair is still a mess. He can't do anything about his hair even if he tries.
“Here it is.” I call and he moves over to me as he takes the box with the set in it. He tries to pu it on but looks at me with wide eyes,
“What?”
“How do you even put all that on? That’s going to look horrible.”
“Are you doubting my skills, Arlert?” I test and eren laughs from the other side.
“Is that a challenge, jaeger? Okay then, I'll prove you both wrong.” they both chuckle and i take armin’s hand in mine, starting to move around the rings. It took three minutes but I did it, I got the best combination and how to put it. He looked great in my opinion.
“Woah, y/n, I seriously didn't give you enough credit.” Armin lets out a breath and I smile at his compliment.
“Okay time to send to eren!” I take my phone off of the table that has all of our jewelry on it then snap him a picture.
“You've done well, pretty girl.” he flatters once again and I smirk proudly.
“See? I told you guys.” Armin nods as eren hums and we both burst out in laughter suddenly.
“Okay, it’s getting late. Thank you for everything y/n, I couldn't have done any of this without you, not to mention I'd probably be homeless.” I nod and smile at him as he leaves the house.
Everything, somehow, worked out in the end.
“Baby?”
“Yeah…” i answer, putting away the rest of the jewelry.
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”

A Fast Pass To Love
Pairing: Jemily
Summary: Emily had never been to a theme park, much less Disney Land before. JJ decides to the change that with a week long extravaganza, but some fun things happen on day 1...
WC: 4.7k words
For Mom, Mama, and the rest of the kids of the wack house. (i love all yall) @dykejareau @prentitss @dragisthegame @bridget19 @jay-writes-jemily @ssa-urnansironingboard
--------------------
“Emily, the first rule of theme parks is to wear comfortable shoes and no short shorts. You’re going to get a sunburn.” JJ sat on the bed, watching her towel-laden girlfriend look through her suitcase.
“But these ones make me look cute. Fine, I guess I’ll just have to wear these ripped jeans and my green flannel with the graphic tee. Are you all ready?” Emily finished rifling through her things and slipped into the bathroom.
“Yeah, I’m all dressed. I just need to put on my mascara, hat, and shoes. We still have like 20 minutes before we leave, so just go according to that.” JJ tugged at her watch and moved to the edge of the bed, leaning towards the wall mirror to apply her mascara.
Emily spends little time in the bathroom, zipping through her routine and deftly putting on her clothes. She washed her face and put on moisturizer before throwing open the door and reentering the quaint bedroom. Their room had a view of the buzzing city below but was drab with bland walls and sparse artwork. A king bed decorated the middle of the room positioned directly opposite the magnanimous flat screen. The room may have been drab, but its accessories all but made up for it.
“Your mascara face is cute,” Emily announced, watching her girlfriend carefully apply the product, her lips just barely parted.
“Oh, really?” JJ finished her left side and paused, turning to look back at the brunette. She grinned at the devilish smile on her girlfriend’s face and faced the mirror once more.
“Yeah, I think you should do it more often.” JJ looked at Emily through the mirror and playfully rolled her eyes. She then felt the bed sink under Emily’s weight as the brunette climbed on from the other side.
Emily inched forward, careful to not disrupt JJ’s mascara. She knew from experience that it was not a good choice. Coming up behind the blonde, Emily snaked her hands around JJ’s waist. She set her head gingerly on JJ’s shoulder, beaming at their reflection. This trip was a first for her and she couldn’t think of anyone better to do it with. After another minute, JJ brought the tube down, carefully sealing it and setting it off to the side. She leaned back against Emily and placed her own hands on top of hers. “Babe, come on. I’m done. Are you all set with the backpacks and stuff?” She spoke quietly, relaxing into Emily’s embrace. No matter the time, she always found sanctuary in the brunette’s arms.
“But how about, we just sit here? I don’t want to move.” Emily fake pouted.
“Sure, if you want to miss the water rides and all of the food shops,” JJ answered calmly, knowing that Emily simply needed a little incentive to get moving.
“Oh, never mind. Let’s go. I think everything is packed. Here, I have the list so we can go over it.” Emily fished around in her pocket for a quick second before pulling out a neatly folded piece of lined paper.
JJ chuckled and moved to grab the dark backpack from the edge of the bed. Grabbing its zippers, she opened it quickly and waited expectantly for Emily. The brunette muttered the first part of the list as she quietly checked with herself for the things that she was responsible for.
“Okay, I have all of the snacks and the water. Do you have the medkit, the socks, the fresh shirt and pants for us both, and sunscreen?” She repeated each item slowly, double-checking with the blonde. The method was tried and true, and once they’d gotten through it all, they were out the door.
————————————————————
“Never? You’ve got to be kidding. There’s no way. It’s not possible.” JJ sat on the carpet on top of her folded legs. She had an incredulous look, not understanding how what Emily was saying could be true.
“Nope. I’m serious, never. Mother just was never the kind for theme parks. Plus, she always had a stick up her ass so because she didn’t want to go, I couldn’t either. She would just find extra lessons to stick me in.” Emily sipped her dry, red wine.
“It was odd never knowing what got kids so excited at theme parks. I mean, what’s so cool about waiting in line for hours on end just to be thrown around in a metal car?”
“Oh. My. God. I cannot believe you! That’s it. You, Emily Prentiss, are coming with me on a trip to Disney World. We are doing a full week-long trip so that you can see the magic that so many kids that go there, love. I used to go there on school trips and once with my grandparents. It’ll be perfect.” JJ turned back to her wine, missing the love that was so apparent in Emily’s expression.
“Perfect, just like you?” Emily couldn’t stop herself from the sappy comment. She was tipsy and over the moon in love with JJ.
“Yes, you sap. You really are a hopeless romantic. Pen was right.”
“Of course she was. Pen is the “All-Knowing Goddess” and she never fails to live up to it.”
“You know that I like you very much, right?”
“Always, I’m irresistible.”
“Oh my god, no, you’re insufferable.”
“You love that about me.”
“Got me there.”
————————————————————
The bus ride was turbulent but neither minded. Emily was jittery with excitement and JJ was calmly seated. The brunette had the map to the area that they were visiting in her hands. To her, it looked like someone had drawn spaghetti and put random locations for things on it. But, despite her struggle, Emily refused to ask for help. It was a pride thing. That, and she had told JJ she could do it. She couldn’t go back on her word now. Watching Emily’s internal struggle was amusing for JJ, knowing that the woman would never be able to figure out the map.
“Ah, Magic Kingdom. This is our stop, Jen,” Emily stated boldly with hopes that JJ couldn’t tell that she had no idea where to go next.
“Alrighty, Map Master, where to next?” JJ raised her eyebrows at Emily as they stepped off the shuttle. This is going to be interesting.
“Uh, we can take a left here and go to the Hulk part. Wait, no, that would be a right. Hold on, I know what I’m doing.” Emily’s eyebrows furrowed as she tried to make sense of the winding paths on the page in front of her.
“Sure you do. Take all the time you need.” JJ stood by her, arms folded in amusement.
“Okay, follow me.” Emily faked her confidence, starting off in the left direction. She silently prayed that wherever they ended up was somewhat decent.
After nearly an hour, neither the Hulk ride nor the other options that she had suggested were visible. They had wandered up to the Adventureland area, currently standing in front of what looked like the show’s bar.  They had managed to stop by a couple of the drinks stands and buy things there, but the rides that Emily had wanted were nowhere to be found.
“Do you want my help?” JJ finally chipped in, ready to let Emily stop stressing over the godforsaken map.
“No!” Emily answered immediately, but instantly remembered that she was getting them nowhere. She followed up with another answer, this time more quiet. “Yeah. But only because this stupid map is super confusing and whoever designed it needs to take a map drawing class.”
JJ chuckled and took the reins. From there, they walked for a few short minutes before arriving at the ride that Emily had been searching for. She had just missed the pathway and taken a wrong turn. The blonde beamed over at her girlfriend, who playfully rolled her eyes.
Weaving through the crowds of people seemed much easier with JJ in the lead. They made their way through several rides, including Splash Mountain. The subsequent gift stores that they visited were very attractive as well. Emily and JJ were not immune to their charms, buying a Stitch plushie that both felt was perfect. Its soft, fuzzy texture and inviting look made it exactly what they wanted. Emily even had the thought that they could pass it down to their kids. It would be a memento for the day, one that she knew she would never forget.
————————————————————
JJ and Emily came up to a small area in front of the castle. Emily’s stomach had growled about three times in the past 30 minutes and they still hadn’t gotten any food. She hadn’t eaten more snacks because JJ had asked her to wait for the Dole Whip that she wanted to try. JJ, on the other hand, was tired. She hadn’t done the whole theme park shebang in years, forgetting the physical toll it took.
She let out a deep sigh, pausing to lean against the partition. A few steps in front of them, two Disney princesses were having a lively conversation. Cinderella, who was a bit taller than Belle, was blushing at whatever the other princess had just told her. Their giggles barely reached Emily and JJ’s ears. Emily smiled at the lighthearted demeanor of the women. They weren’t currently in character, but their costumes and attitude alone were enough to make the Disney World experience magical for children.
Cinderella looked over Belle’s shoulder and caught Emily’s eye. The woman beamed and waved. The gleeful energy radiated off of her. Belle turned around upon seeing what Cinderella was doing. She also waved at the couple, getting a nonchalant wave from JJ and Emily.
JJ pulled out her phone, looking up if the restaurant she had wanted to go to for dinner was still open. The sun’s rays beat down on the couple but JJ and Emily had learned to weather it after years of travel. As she was scrolling to find the link to their website, Emily and JJ heard a squeal in their vicinity. Both of their heads jerked upwards, searching for the source of the outburst.
Their eyes landed on a child that looked roughly 7 years old, dressed in a Belle costume that was similar to the princess that was standing next to them. Poofy fabric and dazzling sequins made the little kid’s gown look extravagant. The petticoat twinkled and flew back against the air as the young princess made their way up to the adult Belle. JJ and Emily didn’t realize what had happened until the princess tugged on the older Belle’s dress, head tilted back to showcase eyes full of wonder.
“You look just like me! I’m princess Belle.” Their voice was high-pitched, sounding almost like an animation in real life. “Mama, look! It’s princess Belle! We look the same!”
The child turned back to talk to a group of people. Emily and JJ’s eyes followed the young princess’ and saw a small group of people. Two women stood close together, the taller one’s arm placed on the other shoulder. On their right, a child had one of the women’s hands in her grasp. She looked between both Belle’s, excitement apparent in her expression, their mouth forming a little “O”. They were dressed as Rapunzel, the light and shimmery purple of the dress popping against their darker, red hair. Accent spots of gold were scattered around the costume, shining amidst the entire ensemble.
The women were not in costume, but their outfits were nonetheless stylish. The taller woman had on a light beige shirt, its sweater-like fabric tucked into light-wash blue jeans that were ripped at the knees. The ensemble was completed with a dark leather jacket that was sleek, not having many embellishments. Beside her, the woman that was holding Rapunzel’s hand was in a sundress. Its material was light and flowy. Patterned lavender flower bouquets were spread across the dress. It had a deep neckline, offset by the floppy sun hat on her head.
Seeing those women and children made JJ’s heart soar. They were exactly what she had pictured in her head of Emily and herself, far off in the future. Getting a glimpse of what that life held for them was overwhelming. In one sweeping motion, the blonde turned Emily’s head to the side and kissed her. Her other hand laid on the brunette’s waist, pulling her closer so that she might never have to let go. When they eventually pulled apart, Emily looked at her with amazement. She didn’t know what had given JJ the sudden need to kiss her, but she wasn’t mad about it.
“Any reason for that kiss, milady?” Emily added the joking lilt to her voice, hoping to understand what had overcome her girlfriend.
“Just, that you’re perfect. Also, those kids, they remind me of what I want our life to be like. Not now, but later in the future. It’s just everything I imagined, and I can’t wait for us to be there.” JJ’s eyes were wide and doe-like, melting Emily’s heart on the spot. She brought her hand up to rest on JJ’s cheek, her thumb brushing against it lightly.
“OH MY GOD. YOU CAN LIKE PRINCESSES TOO?” The women all but jolted up when the shrill voice broke through their bubble.
They turned to the origin of the sound, eyes once again falling on the miniature Belle. Their finger was pointed at the couple. A dazzling smile sat on their face, the jubilation barely containable. Emily recovered from the shock and realized what was going on first. She knelt down, making eye contact with the child.
“Of course you can. You like princesses, princes, kings, queens; whatever you want. Look, you see her?” Emily pointed back at JJ, waiting for the little princess to nod. “I really like her, and she happens to be my queen.”  She watched the child’s eyebrows raise, laughing softly at their mirth.
“Wait, can I tell you a secret?” She leaned in as did the kid, their ear tilted towards Emily.
“Well, actually the thing is, I love her and I’m gonna tell her tonight. What do you think? Is it a good idea?” Emily smiled while the thought of telling JJ she loved her filled her with warmth.
The young princess stood back up, switching glances between JJ and Emily. They noticed the way that JJ looked at Emily. Even if the brunette couldn’t see her girlfriend, JJ looked at her like she held the world in her hands. Luca, the child, started jumping up and down.
“Yes! Yes! Do it! Do it!” Enthused, Luca turned to the grownup Belle. They switched glances from Cinderella to Belle, deciding whether or not to ask the question on their mind. “Is she your princess too?”
Luca pointed to Cinderella, asking Belle. The woman in the leather jacket took a couple of steps forward, reducing the distance between herself and Luca. She placed her hand on the kid’s shoulder and looked over at the women gratefully. Emily giggled and so did JJ. Belle, shifting her eyes from Cinderella to Luca and her mother, snapped back into character to answer the question.
“Why yes, she is. We have our own castles too, so whenever we can go to see the Fairy Godmother and the Beast whenever we want! You have to admit, she’s pretty cute too.” The princess snuck a glance back at their girlfriend, excitedly spinning the tail of their “fairytale romance”.
Luca gasped, their expressions amusing everyone around them once more. However, this time they turned all the way around to face the other woman and little kid. Stopping to think for a second, Luca rested their head in their hand. Coming to the conclusion that they wanted, Luca beamed and pointed at the little Rapunzel. Everyone’s eyes followed their finger.
“B! B! B! You’re Rapunzel and I’m Belle! You’re a princess and I love you!” The child that had hung back’s face lit up with the statement.
“Oh my god! We are! I love you too!” The young princess was practically shouting across the short distance between them and Luca.
The words sounded funky because of the slight Irish twang that pervaded her accent but melted everyone’s hearts regardless. Wasting no more time, B broke out into a sprint towards Luca who did the same. They collided mere seconds later, wrapped in the tight hug. Around them, “Mama” returned back to the other woman. Both children stood wrapped in each other’s arms, delighted at the realization that they had come to. It was the innocence and naivety that made that moment so much more beautiful.
After nearly a minute, B and Luca let go and looked back at the two women that they had come with. Emily and JJ noticed their stance, for example, how the woman in the sundress so slightly leaned into the other’s hold. They watched the way that “Mama” looked at her, noticing the softness that couldn’t be categorized as anything but love in her eyes. They caught on to the way that the couple’s hands linked, their fingers entwined behind their backs, almost as if to hide it.
During those moments, JJ and Emily didn’t notice the two children walking up to them. The couple only broke their gaze when Emily felt a light tug on her flannel. Looking down, she saw B and Luca standing with their hands joined together. Wondering what else the children had to say, she playfully raised her eyebrows to nonverbally ask them to talk.
“My name is Luca, and this is B, my princess. They’re really pretty and I love them a lot. I think you’re really cool and that you should hang out with us sometime. Bring her too.” Luca spoke and pointed at JJ as they finished their sentence.
The two adults joined the children, smiling.
“I guess since Luca and B have already made their introductions, we should as well. I’m Lauren and this is my friend Hannah. Luca is my kid and B is theirs.” The woman in the leather jacket looked down at Luca and B, and then over to Hannah.
“I’m Emily and this is my girlfriend, JJ. It was nice to meet you. You as well, B and Luca. Maybe, we can hang out the next time we meet. Enjoy your trip princesses.”
With that the 6 people parted, leaving Belle and Cinderella back at their post. Emily and JJ made their way to get Dole Whip. They made a few pit stops along the way, picking up souvenirs that were just tacky enough. It started when Emily caught JJ trying on a pair of rainbow Mickey Mouse Ears. She admired her girlfriend from afar, watching her admire the way the headband sat on top of her blonde hair. Emily walked up behind JJ and wrapped her arms around her waist.
“I am so buying you that. You look so cute.”
“Only if you get one too. We have to be matching or Pen won’t let you hear the end of it.”
“I guess you’re right. I would look good in that. You think she’d let it slide if we got her something too?”
“She might, but I wouldn’t,” JJ smirked at their reflections.
“Okay, okay. How about I get us some shot glasses and these and we call it even”
“Deal.” Emily picked up the shot glasses, with decorations and prices that reminded them that they were having the time of their life in Disney World.
Now, with their Stitch plushie, shot glasses, and rainbow headbands, JJ and Emily looked like proper tourists. Emily usually preferred to blend in with the locals and stay low. The more untraceable, the better for her. But somehow, standing JJ in their themed gear and countless souvenirs, the memories seemed worth it. She had her arm pulled tightly around JJ’s waist, feeling the blonde’s body heat against her own.
The sun had begun to set. It left the sky painted with several different shades and tints of pink and orange; the blue having faded away in the last hour. Each color created a mosaic-like glow down on the people as they prepared for the fireworks. JJ had raved about the fireworks show since that first night that Emily had confessed of her inexperience. The brunette was still slightly hesitant but decided that if JJ loved it, then it was good for her too. She pressed a soft kiss into JJ’s hairline as they weaved through the crowds of people to find a good spot for the show.
The last of the sunset passed rather quickly, leaving the crowds under the luminescence of the park’s decor. The rides that they had wanted to go on were already over, so this was the last thing on the first day’s itinerary. Emily was just about to ask JJ when they should expect the show to start when an employee in a decorated, Disney jacket approached the crowd with a megaphone. They spoke loudly and clearly, reciting memorized instructions on the show that was to begin in 2 minutes and the manners that the crowd had to use for it.
Promptly as announced, the fireworks began in 2 minutes. The display was gorgeous. Each little buildup created a unique pattern of firework in the sky. Emily found her attention captured, the magnificence making her heart glow. Everything around her was too much. She felt overwhelmed with love and remembered the secret that she had told Luca. It was now or never.
“Hey, Jen?” She felt the blonde’s weight shift from where she was, tightly tucked into Emily’s body.
“Yeah?” Emily’s neck tickled with the puff of air from JJ’s words.
“Today was perfect. Every day, actually, is perfect with you. I don’t know how you do it, but you make the world seem magical. Everywhere I look, I see something beautiful, and with our jobs, I didn’t even think that was possible. Being with you, made me realize that the world is good and can be good. It made me want to be good, better actually, just for you. So I guess, what I’m trying to say is that I love you. I love you and everything about you. You opened my eyes, Jen. I don’t think I’ll ever have the words to thank you enough for it.”
JJ held back tears at Emily’s words. The pure emotion that she heard in the woman’s voice was enough alone to make her sob. Her heart felt like it was glowing. Emily had that effect on her since they had met. Being here, standing by her side felt surreal. They were at Disney World, arguably the “most magical place on Earth”, but JJ thought differently. To her, anywhere by Emily instantly became enchanting. She didn’t waste a second in replying.
“I love you too, Emily. You were one of the best things that ever happened to me. I could shout it from the rooftops, but fireworks at Disney World work too.” JJ smirked and hugged Emily tighter. “I had dinner reservations at a restaurant that I came to as a kid for after this. Are you up for it? I just think that it would be a nice way to end today.”
“Of course. I was going to suggest take out for dinner, but that sounds so much better. We can head out as soon as the show is over.” Emily answered her and then turned her head to look up at the illustrious show once more.
They stayed for the show, even clapping when the fireworks subsided and denoted the end of the program. JJ and Emily sauntered through the flow of people, looking for an exit. On the way there, Emily stopped them in front of the magnanimous tree. Its decorations shined strongly against the dark, night sky, twinkling almost as brightly as the stars. Placing JJ strategically against the fence, she snapped a few photos. Jumping when she felt a light tap against her shoulder, Emily turned to see Hannah’s wide smile. They gestured for her phone, asking if Emily wanted a picture of the couple.
“Why don’t you hop in there next to her? I can take the picture of the two of you.” Emily obliged them, taking quick strides to join her girlfriend’s side. Their smiles were radiant.
Only two pictures had been taken before purple and yellow things ran out from behind Hannah. The couple didn’t realize what was happening until JJ nearly doubled over with the force that collided into her side. She looked down to see B, and the kid was clinging to her shirt. JJ didn’t have time to respond before the same thing happened to Emily. Luca had made their way to surround the brunette. Both kids had a mischievous smile on their faces, adoration in their eyes.
“Oh, I am so sorry. Kids, come back here. Let these two lovely ladies have their pictures.” Lauren’s voice rang out from behind her friend.
“No, it’s okay, let them stay. After all, we have to take pictures with the princesses in Disney World. Come in close for the picture guys!” JJ laughed and responded, earning delighted agreement from B, Luca, and Emily.
“You two are too kind.” Hannah shook their head and readjusted the phone’s camera angle.
The family took their leave of JJ and Emily, leaving the happy couple smiling as they made their way out of the theme park. The journey to their car was long, but it felt like two minutes to the women as they talked about their adventures of the day. It was a sweet resolution to a long day of fun. Arriving at Rigatello’s right on time, JJ and Emily were seated with haste.
JJ was buzzing with the high of their confession, grasping Emily’s hand tightly. Her mind was zipping with memories that they had made today. She had come to this theme park as a kid, and Emily had rejuvenated that childhood passion that she had for places like it. It reminded her of the fun that she used to have with Roslyn. All that confirmed was that Emily was perfect for her, through and through. Emily couldn’t keep her eyes off of JJ. The baby blues were reminders of how JJ was changing her view on the world, one step at a time. The blonde was the key to her future, and maybe one day they could have kids just like B and Luca. The thought of their own children was exhilarating to Emily, knowing that she had almost given up the hope of motherhood before JJ. Those kids were goofs, but so cute. We are definitely making yearly trips to Disney with our own, and maybe I’ll be able to convince JJ to dress up with them.
The couple was making light conversation when a short, stockier waiter approached their table. Their face was lit up and animated, the enthusiasm apparent in the waiter’s words. Taking a good look at JJ and Emily, Pablo, as the waiter had introduced herself, immediately began listing off items that they believed the pair would like. The interaction was short and lively, Pablo off soon to get their waters. Not a few minutes had passed before they returned once more, however they had some extra beyond what JJ had ordered.
“Don’t worry, it’s on the house. You two deserve it. Y’all are a beautiful couple. Thank you for coming to Rigatello’s. Now, do you know what you want to order?”
“I’ll have the beef cannelloni and she’ll have the chicken scampi? Yeah, one chicken scampi for her.” Emily gave out their orders and soon they were left alone again.
The food was decadent and the wine, which they learned was a house specialty later, was rich and smooth. JJ and Emily talked about kids, what Emily loved about the day, and the future. That day had been their first day of seven, and Emily had already fallen in love with Disney World. They left great compliments with the waiter and went on to their hotel. The women dragged themselves into bed after changing into their pajamas. Both were asleep within seconds of their heads hitting the pillow, arms wrapped tightly around each other.

song: love you like I used to - russell dickerson
Tito stood at the foot of the bed, his suitcase freshly packed, his eyes landed on your finally sleeping figure, your hand hanging over the edge of the bed and into your son's bassinet. He smiled at the sight, moving to place the card he had written for you on the nightstand, right underneath the monitor to your daughters room so he was certain you’d see it. He carefully grabbed your hand, moving it onto the bed, “bye, my love.” Tito whispered, leaving a gentle kiss on your forehead. “It’s time already?” You whispered, peeking your eyes open at him. He nodded softly, pressing a kiss to you pouted lips, “I’ll be back before you know it.” He mumbled, “I love you.” He added, hushed, not wanting to wake Nick, the one month old finally being asleep. “I love you.” You responded sleepily, “don’t forget to say bye to Grace.” You called softly, he rolled his eyes teasingly at you in the doorway, you knew he wouldn’t but all last night Grace kept telling him to say goodbye to her in the morning, even though you both knew she’d sleep through it, you considered yourself lucky to have such a heavy sleeper for a toddler. You watched him walk into her room on the monitor, carefully squatting down beside her toddler bed, he moved her frizzy hair back, kissing her little forehead. “I love you, baby girl.” He mumbled, and just like you thought, she didn’t even budge, he stood to his full height and blew a kiss to the camera knowing you were watching. The second you heard the front door shut behind him, you were back to sleep, knowing you’d need as much of it as you could get.
Finally when Nick woke you up, you spotted the envelope on your nightstand, you furrowed your eyebrows as you reached over to get it, cradling your son to your chest. You pulled it open, sliding the card out and you could already feel the tears building in your eyes just from the cover. “I didn’t forget” printed in bold red letters on the front, you flipped it open,
“happy anniversary, ma chérie, I’m sorry I won’t be there, and no amount of sappy words I could write in here would make up for that. But that doesn’t mean I won’t try! I didn’t think I could love you anymore than I did, but then you agreed to be my wife, and then, when I thought my heart couldn’t grow anymore, you gave me two of the best little blessings. Everyday I love you more than I did the day before, and I’ll continue to love you more everyday for the rest of our lives. Thank you for doing all that you do and being the most amazing wife and mother to our kids, I’ll see you when I get back… I love you.”
You scrambled to grab your phone, praying you’d catch him before the plane took off, you quickly dialed the FaceTime call, you had a rule, once you had Grace and he was nervous something would happen when he was away, you only did a normal call if there was an emergency, otherwise it was FaceTime. He answered almost instantly, “Y/N?” He questioned, concern evident on his face, you never called him this early on in a roadie, let alone with tears in your eyes. “I love you, and the card was perfect.” You spoke, his worries melting away when he realized that’s why you were crying. “You scared me.” He chuckled softly, smiling when you adjusted the phone to show Nick laid in your arm. “We won’t keep you, good luck tonight, we’ll call before the game.” You told him, smiling down at the baby, your bedroom door creaked open, “mommy, I don’t feel good.” Grace called, speaking as well as she could for her young 3 year old self, her little voice trembling, you held in a sigh. “Come here baby.” You waved her in, “did you want to say bye to daddy again?” You questioned, hoping it would distract her for a moment, she nodded eagerly, but still sluggishly climbing into the bed. You allowed her to hold your phone out in front of her face, “daddy!” She grinned, Tito mirrored her face, “hi, princess.” He laughed, Mat popping his head in the frame. “Hi, little lady.” He smiled, Grace squealed in excitement, “mommy, it’s uncle!” She gasped, showing you the phone, you looked up from Nick who was beginning to get fussy. “I see, but they need to go to work, so say goodbye.” You told her with a smile, she went to speak but instead, she threw up, all over you, and Nick. Instantly both of your kids started crying, “oh boy, I’ll let you go, babe, love you.” Tito rushed to get off the phone. “Love you too.” You had to force yourself to laugh under your breath, knowing the four days he would be gone would suddenly be a whole lot longer. “I’m sorry!” Grace cried when you looked at her, “no, baby it’s ok.” You assured her, trying to decide where to start with this mess.
***
“Seems like Y/N is gonna have her hands full.” Mat commented once the plane took off, “don’t remind me, I don’t know how she does it by herself, I can barely do it with her there.” Tito sighed, glaring at his friend, wondering why he’d even make such a comment. “Sorry.” Mat put his hands up in surrender, “I bet, uh, you know what, nevermind.” Mat started to speak but when Tito gave him a warning glance he decided against it. “Isn’t it your anniversary tomorrow?” Mat couldn’t help but blurt out, Tito sighed, leaning back in his seat. “Yes, Mathew, it is.” He grumbled, “I already handled that.” He added, Mat nodded with pursed lips, “you didn’t have to use my full name you know.” Mat muttered, rolling his eyes as he stopped the flight attendant, asking for some waters. Her eyes lingered on Tito for a moment too long, “that’s all.” Tito spoke since Mat decided to go silent in that moment. “Great, I’ll be right back.” She walked, with a definite sway in her hips, Tito rolled his eyes at the sight, making sure he took his water with his left hand, steel ring on full display.
***
You chewed your lip, carefully setting down Nick on his boppy to sleep, Grace curled into your other side, finally having cried herself to sleep after a few more times of being sick, you placed a hand on her forehead, frowning when you could clearly tell she has a fever. “Oh, baby girl.” You sighed, sliding out from under her, replacing your lap with a pillow, she didn’t stir, and you quietly rushed to the kitchen, phone in tow to call Tito while you got a cold rag for her. You propped the phone up on the counter while it rang, “hey, love.” His voice came over the screen, his face popping up a moment later and you sighed in relief, his voice alone calming you down. “Hi.” You sighed, giving him the look, the tired mom look. “How is everything?” He questioned softly, you shook your head, the wave of nausea hitting you like a truck. “She’s thrown up four times, she’s got a fever and I’m fairly certain I’ve caught whatever she has and how am I not going to pass that on to the baby? Tito, oh my god I can’t get the baby sick.” You rambled, words mixing together as you leaned on the counter, “I’m sorry, we’re fine, don’t worry about us.” You added quickly, eyes focusing on the way he was looking at you, “I’m sorry, baby, I’ll be home in three days, and I promise then you’ll get to rest for as long as you want.” He sighed, giving you a lazy smile, “I know, thank you.” And just like clock work, Grace came padding into the kitchen. “Come here, Gracie Lou.” You sighed, holding your hands out for her, she smiled at the nickname, one your father had dubbed on her.
She wrapped her little arms around your neck, legs squeezing your sides. “Hi, baby girl.” Tito mumbled, smiling as she lazily looked at him, “daddy.” She pouted, the tears building in her eyes. “Grace, don’t cry princess, I’ll be home in three days, you won’t even know I’m gone.” He spoke soothingly, you rubbed her back, “I want daddy.” She cried into your shoulder, “I know honey.” You sighed, this trip was starting out terribly, and it wasn’t so much what was happening at home that bothered you, it was how Tito was having bad phone call after bad phone call. “I’ve gotta go.” He sighed, running a hand over his face, as he held up a finger to whoever had just walked into his room. “Grace,” he spoke and she looked at him with a snotty nose and red eyes, “I need you to do something for me baby.” He told her and she nodded suddenly intrigued by having a task. “Can you be a good girl for mommy? And if your extra good, we’ll go for ice cream when I get back.” He smiled, you rolled your eyes but smiled as she happily agreed, already having more spunk in her attitude. “I loooooooooove you.” She spoke, this was their game, she would drag out the word, challenging him to do it longer, and we all know who won every time, but she loved it no matter what. “I loooooooooooooooove you.” Tito responded, smiling in success when she hid back in your shoulder, “and I loooove you too, mama.” He spoke to you, “I love you too.” You smiled, ending the call so he could get back to getting ready for the game.
***
You all but ran down the steps, baby monitor in hand, both of the kids were asleep, which meant you got some glorious time alone with Tito, he was opening the door as you bounded off the last step. “Tito!” You whisper shouted, running over to him, he dropped his bags in record time, arms outstretched as you reached him. “I love you so much, god I’m so happy to be back.” He mumbled into your hair, all but squeezing the life out of you as you cried into his shoulder. “I missed you.” You sniffled out, moving to pull him in for a kiss. “I love you, the card was all I needed, but thank you for the flowers.” You spoke barely pulling away from him. He chuckled against you, kicking the door shut softly behind him, “you deserve way more than flowers, baby.” He assured you, pulling you back in for a hug. “Now let me go see my babies.” He finally leaned away, hearing them rustling on the monitor. “Go, please it’s your turn.” You teased, still following him up the stairs, not wanting to miss the look on Grace’s face when she woke up to him. He tiptoed into her room, kneeling beside her bed, “Grace.” He whispered, tugging the blanket down, she whined stirring, “Grace, hi baby.” He spoke again, resting his hand on her stomach lightly, rubbing her softly. Her eyes fluttered open, she looked around in a sleepy haze, her eyes landing on him, she smiled, and then it hit her, “daddy!” She shouted, shooting up, clinging to him. “Grace!” He mimicked her, lightly tickling her sides, “daddy, no!” She threw her head back in giggles, “I missed you, little lady.” He smiled, peppering her face in kisses, grinning as her laughter continued filling the room. “Come on, let’s go get your brother.” He stood, dramatically groaning when she hung off of him. Anything to make her laugh.
His greeting to Nick was much more subdued, as he cradled the small baby to his chest, “oh, my sweet boy.” He grinned, Nick looking up with wide eyes. The sight in front of you was one you’d never get used to, Grace in his lap, while they sat holding Nick together, her asking a million questions about his trip while he happily answered. Neither of you loved each other like you used to, this, this was just so much better.

"I’m so glad that they’re still doing this. Keep calm. Carry on," Kiara said to the boys as she stuffed the change from their tickets back into her wallet.
It would have been an understatement to say that JJ and Pope hadn’t been eager to attend the outdoor movie night hosted by the Island Club. In fact, they'd spend thirty minutes listing all the things they would rather do when Kiara proposed the idea. She'd let them grumble about going for the better part of an hour since she knew there was no way the pogues would let her go to something on Figure Eight alone. Pogues always had each other's backs, always. Kiara figured the least she could do was pay their entry fee. Plus, she knew JJ and Pope didn't exactly have extra cash laying around for movie nights.
She would have dragged all three of the boys with her but John B hadn't been back to the chateau all day. Since the cell towers were still down thanks to the hurricane, she could only guess where he was.
"Welcome to the summer movie series. All proceeds go to...." The announcer's voice boomed over the loudspeakers as Kiara lead the boys to an empty space in the middle of the crowd.
"Back to OBX life. You know? Aren’t you guys glad that I made you come?" She really didn't have to ask, she was already sure of their answer.
"Ecstatic," Pope responded, his tone clearly lacking enthusiasm.
"My couch was pretty comfy, I’ll be honest," JJ echoed.
"We’re out of the green zone, man," Pope leaned over, commenting to JJ, out of earshot of Kiara. She didn't know about Topper's boat and Pope wasn't really interesting in bringing her in as another accessory to the crime.
"Dude, tranquilo, okay?" JJ whispered back.
"We're in the middle of Kooklandia. This is the last place I wanted to be."
"Shut up, Pope," JJ snapped, his wide eyes with warning. This was Kiara's thing, they weren't gonna let the Shakespearesque fued between Kooks and Pogues ruin her fun.

"Hey, uh…can I get two Pepsis, pleases?" Kiara asked the employee currently manning the snack bar.
"Sure," he replied.
Kiara slide the money for the sodas across the counter and took the cold drinks, watching Rafe slowly approaching from out of the corner of her eye.
"Hey, Kie," Rafe said. Kie felt her pulse spike at a nickname he'd originally given her. "Hey, what’s up? How are you?"
"I’m fine," she replied, intentionally angling her body away from him, her gaze resting anywhere but on him. For someone whose presence she uses to be able to relax in, now the sight of Rafe put her on edge.
"Good, good. Um...Tell your boy that we know what he did." Rafe held her stare and Kiara couldn't stop her lip from curling up in contempt.
"Sorry, what boy are you talking about?"
"Uh, he’ll know." Rafe smiled as if this conversation was bringing him some wicked sense of pleasure.
Rafe opened his mouth as to say something else but Kiara turned away from him. "Bye," he called to her as she walked away.
"Douche," Kiara said, loud enough that she was sure he would still hear her. She threw a glance over her shoulder, feeling Rafe's eyes still watching her.
-
Kiara handed Pope a Pepsi. "Just saw Rafe, and he said, and I quote, 'Tell your boy that we know what he did.' What is that?" She finished, handing JJ the second soda.
"Um...Where is he?" JJ asked back.
"Right there." Pope and JJ's heads turned around to look with her.
"Great the whole death squad," Pope said.
JJ grabbed the top of Pope's head, knocking his snapback off as he forced it forward. "Don’t stare, bro," JJ paused. "Just warning you, bro. If they corner me, I’m coming out swinging, okay?"
"Yeah, yeah," Pope agreed.
"Slice and dicin’. I’m on edge right now, okay? If that doesn’t work, I got this right here." JJ held up his worn backpack.
Fucking hell, Kiara thought. He brought the gun.
"Yeah, yeah. So, we just gotta stay in the group. They can’t come get us if we’re in the group," Pope remarked.
"Like a school of fish.”
"Stay in the school. Can’t leave the school. Stay in school," Pope repeated to himself.
"I’m sorry JJ…" Kiara interrupted. "Please tell me that you did not bring a gun here. JJ, there are kids."
"No Kie! I didn’t bring the gun. Everything’s fine, okay?" JJ assured, his frantic tone betraying him.
"Oh wow, thank you. That’s really convincing. I love that JJ." Kiara looked from JJ to Pope, trying to assess what kind of trouble they’d caused now. "Founding principle, you guys. No secrets amongst Pogues. What is Rafe talking about?"
Pope leaned it, bringing his face closer to Kiara's. "Kie, it might go down tonight."
"What does that mean?" Their vagueness was making Kiara extra suspicious. "'Might go down tonight.' What did y’all do?"
The boys look at each other, neither of supplying any answers to Kiara's questioning.
"Deny, deny, deny," JJ said quietly to Pope under his breath.
The opening score of The Addams Family cracked through the weathered speakers forcing an end to the conversation. A memory popped into Kiara’s head before she had time to stop it. This was Sarah Cameron’s favorite movie. Sarah used to mouth the lines along with the actors every time they watched it together.
There were a lot of glamorous parts of being best friends with the Kook-queen Sarah Cameron. When they walked down the shiny hallways of the Kook Academy literally arm-in-arm peoples' heads turned and watched them go by. All the mean girls with their once snarky remarks were suddenly complimenting Kiara's "unique style," begging her to tell them where she bought her clothes. (In truth, most of it was actaully thrifted since that was much more eco-friendly.) Plus there was the way Sarah swiped her Daddy's black card without a second thought. Kiara’s family lived on Figure Eight, they were a part of the Island Club but they would never have the kind of east coast old money the Cameron's had.
It wasn’t something Kiara usually minded. The whole money thing. Kiara never saw herself as less than because she didn’t wear a watch that cost as much as college tuition on her wrist. But it was more than that: Kiara never really saw herself as much of a Kook to begin. She didn’t want that lifestyle. She never had. It was her parents who pushed it on her. Her mom had grown up under the crystal chandeliers and ever-watchful eyes. She’d debuted into Outer Banks high society at the age of seventeen like every Kook at that age still did. An action which Kiara scoffed at. Her mom was fully prepared to be another success story of the ring-before-spring pipeline, returning to the Outer Banks after four years of college with an MRS degree and a husband who would be balding by his early forties.
But in a Hollywood-worthy meet-cute that involved one drunk sorority girl and her vodka-induced need for pancakes, Mike Carrera stumbled into Anna's life.
Mike Carrera was the opposite of Anna in every way that counted. His whole life had been hard work and grit, fighting for the things that were rightfully his and taking them when people still refused to hand them over. He had a pipe dream of owning his own restaurant, a borderline fantasy that he was dead-set on making sure came true. Anna loved him and he loved her right back. They eloped to Vegas the week after graduation even though own Anna’s mother was halfway through planning the wedding. They bought cheap rings and a second-hand dress since they were still living paycheck to paycheck. Though the bright lights of Vegas had made the impromptu wedding seem a bit more glamorous than it really was, they both knew deep down their love was the real thing. They promised each other till death do us part and meant it.
When Anna found out she was pregnant, she talked Mike into going back to the Outer Bank. Anna swore up and down the move was only so her parents could help with the baby. They'd live on the cut, work for what they deserved and be happy. Then Anna's parents bought them a house on Figure Eight as a wedding gift and Sunday dinners at the Island club became protocol. Anna slipped back into her life as a Kook and brought Mike with her. When the restaurant turned into the tourist hot spot, the zeros in their bank accounts started growing. The Carrera's got rich but their money could never compete with the trust-fond generational wealth of their fellow Kooks.
The Outer Banks only had one elementary school. All the kids on the island were thrown together at an age where no one yet realized the lines between the haves and have nots. Fifth grade was when it got messy. Every fall the class size heading to the Kildare County Middle School dropped by half when all the Kooks transferred to St. Andrews “Kook” Academy. A breeding ground for Ivy-league-bound eighteen-year-olds who lived with the cushions of their parents' bank accounts.
Kiara begged her parents not to make her go to the Kook Academy. She would have rather died than leave her best friends, Bea and Joey, who were both Pogues and staying at KDMS. She didn't realize that middle school would rip the three of them apart. By eighth grade, Kiara had her new friends. Pope Heyward, John B. and JJ Maybank, but he still went by Junior back then. Even if they were bothered by Kiara's status as half-Kook, in the same way Bea and Joey had been, they never showed it.
Mike and Anna didn't see the need to send Kiara to St. Andrews if she didn't want to go but as high school inched closed with every year, the whispers about the Kook in public school grew louder. The summer before freshman year, her parents offered her a deal - though it was hardly a fair one in Kiara's mind. She could either stay at Kildare County High School but she'd have to work in the restaurant in her free time or she could go to St. Andrews with complete freedom for a year. Kiara knew her parents wanted her to transfer so she caved and agreed to a year at St. Andrews to make them happy. Anna prayed her daughter would find her people at St. Andrews and that one year would turn into four but Kiara knew she had already found her people and was counting down the days till she could go back to them. It was only when Sarah Cameron decided the new girl might be cool that Kiara stopped marking each passing day with a big red x.
-
There was less than a week left in their Christmas break and Kiara was seated across from Sarah at the Cameron's dining room table bent over her practice problems for Mr. Harrings' freshman science. He infamously gave out the hardest pop quiz of the year the first day back after break and Kiara's grade couldn't take her failing it.
"What’s avocado’s number?” Sarah asked, looking up from her paper, her pen frozen in midair.
“What’s what?” said Kiara, thoroughly confused at Sarah’s question.
“You know,” Sarah paused, scanning Kiara’s face for any sign of understanding. “Avogadro’s number. Some kid in my class thought the dude’s name was avocado so we’ve been calling it avocado’s number since.”
“Ah, Avogadro’s number,” Kiara repeated, shifting her papers around until she found the one with all the formulas and constants written on it. “Six point zero two two one four zero seven six times ten to the twenty-second power.”
Sarah punched the numbers into her calculator. “Thanks, babes.”
“Of course.”
Rafe’s heavy footsteps carried through the Cameron’s massive house announcing his arrival home. He strolled into the room, a thick stack of papers in one hand and a garment bag draped over the opposite arm.
“Hey loser,” Sarah said, not inspired enough by her brother's presence to look up from her work.
“Hi Rafe,” Kiara echoed. "Where you been?"
"Being Ward's errand boy. I forgot the key to his office where I was supposed to drop off this contract so he's gonna kill me for that. But," Rafe paused digging into his pocket and pulling out a small velvet pouch. "Merry late Christmas," he finished, handing the bag to Kie. "I saw it and I thought you'd like it."
Kiara reached into the pouch pulling out a small enamel pin of the earth, shaped into a heart with the word "love" in silver written over it. Kie smoothed her thumb over the cold metal.
"You know since you're gonna save the planet and everything," Rafe added.
"Thank you. I love it!" Kiara jumped up from her chair, throwing her arms around his waist wrapping him a hug.
"No problem, Kie." Rafe said.
"Hey, I'm trying to save our planet too." Sarah pipped up.
"Shut up, Sarah," Rafe cracked. "I gave you your Christmas present last week."
Sarah stuck her tongue out at him, Rafe doing the same in return.
"What are you guys working on?" Rafe asked.
"Science," Kiara replied, reaching down to grab her backpack from underneath the table.
"Is that for Mr. Harrings' class?"
"Yeah. Yeah, it is," Kie said, half distracting by trying to decide which spot to put her new pin in.
"I think I might still have my old test from that class if you want them.”
Sarah's head snapped up at the offer. "No way."
"Sound any more surprised, Sarah. I was offering them to Kiara anyway, snob," Rafe shot back.
"I'll share," Kie assured her best friend.
Kiara followed Rafe up the grand staircase, flopping on Rafe's bed while he searched for his old work.
"Henry Spiegel was talking about taking you to a he formal in the locker room before we left for break," Rade relied from inside his closet.
"Isn't he the freshman who made varsity lacrosse?" Kiara asked back. She contemplated the idea of going to St. Andrews' Winter Formal with him. Henry was nice enough, plus he was pretty good-looking. She could stand going with him.
"I told him if I found out he'd asked you, I'd make sure he missed the next three games because of a black eye."
"Rafe."
"What? Do you really think I'm gonna let some dweeb with half a brain who only wants to get in your pants take my little sisters to formal?"
"Who am I supposed to take?” She shot back.
“I don’t know. Not him,” Rafe said, emerging, a small stack of papers in hand.
“You know Denny asked Sarah last week.”
“I know.”
Kiara paused, “You will you take?”
Rafe shrugged. “Doesn’t matter. Maybe Ashely M. Seniors don’t really go to the actual dance.”
Kie took the pages of old test for Rafe’s outstretched arm and riffled through them. His name was scribbled on the top of each one in his messy handwriting.
Her eyes drifted up to the Duke basketball poster in the corner of Rafe’s room.
“When do you hear from them?” Kie asked.
“March,” said Rafe, his voice void of emotion.
“I know you’ll get in.”
"My dad'll make sure of it.” Rafe sat down on the bed next to Kiara.
“You don’t know that.”
“I found a card addressed to Ward from the Dean of Student last week thanking him for 'the generous donation from such a valued alumni.'”
Kie's head dropped to rest on Rafe’s shoulder. “I’m sorry.”
“Yeah, well he’s a dick.” Rafe’s phone buzzed and he pulled it out of his pocket, reading the text on the screen. “I gotta go. I told the boys we’d go hit at the Club tonight.”
“Thanks again for these.” Kie held up the papers. “And for the pin," she added.
“Mr. Harrings always includes the names of the scientists from the unit as bonus questions. Don’t forget to look those up,” Rafe said as he stood up from the bed. "See you around, Kie." He placed a small protective kiss on her forehead before he headed back downstairs.

"JJ?" Pope slapped JJ's shin to get his attention.
"What?" JJ whispered back over the sounds of the movie.
"I gotta take a piss.”
"Hold it."
"I can’t hold it. I drank too much soda."
"It’s too exposed. They’ll totally see us."
"I gotta go," Pope pleaded. He peered behind him to see Rafe, Topper, and Kelce still parked in the same spots at the back of the crowd. "They’re blocking the bathrooms," Pope added.
JJ looked around, thinking up a Plan B. "Alright. Come here. I know where.”
"Hey, where y’all going?" Kiara asked, turning her attention away from the movie.
"We gotta wring it out," JJ responded deadpan.
"What? You gonna hold it for each other," Kiara questioned, disgusted at the thought.
JJ shrugged off the comment and lead Pope through the crowd, the two of them ducking behind a large oak tree.
Kiara turned back to the movie playing on the giant screen, leaving the boys to their own devices. Besides, they wouldn't dare start something with all the people around. They were idiots but they knew better than that.
"Crap," Kiara cursed under her breath when Rafe trailed by Topper and Kelce brushed by her, heading in the same direction Pope and JJ had went. She watched their figures disappear behind the screen before she jumped up from her seat.
JJ's gun, the thought flew her mind.
She picked up his backpack with no intention to use it but better safe than sorry. Especially when it came to those Kooks in particular.
"Hey, kick his ass, Top!" Kiara heard Rafe yell as she rounded the corner.
Kiara felt a full-fledged panic run through her body as she took in the sight. Kelce had pinned JJ's arm behind his back and was Rafe pounded his fist into JJ’s face. A foot away, Pope was barely holding off Topper. Whatever Pope and JJ had done had obviously crossed a line.
Kiara ran in without another thought, swinging JJ's backpack in front of her. "Let go of him, Topper! Fascist asshole!" She screamed at him.
Topper grabbed the bag from her, ripping it out of Kiara's hand and throwing it aside. Kiara jumped on Topper's back, desperate to distract him.
"Hey listen, Pope," Topper yelled over the sounds of the movie. "All you gotta do is accept a little personal responsibility."
"Screw you, kook," Pope spit back.
Kiara felt arms wrap around her waist, yanking her off of Topper. The too-familiar scents of Rafe's cologne filled her nose and his breath was hot on her cheek.
She kicked her legs struggling against him, "Let go of me, Rafe."
"Stay out of this, Kiara," he warned, tossing her onto the ground. His gaze fixed on her for a second before turning away. Kiara swore she saw a look of guilt flash across Rafe's face, wordlessly apologizing for tossing her away so harshly but she didn’t have time to think about that while her boys were still in trouble.
"Kie! You okay?" Pope yelled, struggling against Topper who had wrapped his arm around Pope's neck.
"Come on, man. Just admit it," Topper shouted. "Admit you did it, bitch!"
JJ's backpack had conveniently landed close to where Kiara lay. She rolled over, pushing herself onto her knees and crawling over to the backpack. She riffled through it, her hand landing on the cold mental of the gun.
"You don't mess with me, Pogue! You hear me?" Topper continued. Kiara looked up at Topper's face which showed no signs of mercy. Meanwhile, Rafe's fist smashed into JJ's face again and again. The situation was getting worse by the second. “I'm gonna give you one chance. One chance, Pope. One chance. Come on! One!"
Kiara dropped the gun back into the backpack pulling out JJ's lighter instead, two Js craved onto the surface. She had to go big to stop Rafe, Topper and Kelce. Kiara crawled over to the edge of the sheet the movie was being projected off. Fuck, this has to work.
"Finish him off, Top!" Rafe directed.
Kie flicked on the lighter, the wind blowing out the flame the first few times. Her hands were shaking as she grabbed the edge of the sheet and held the blue flame up to it. The fire lit up her face as it took hold, spreading faster than she had expected. The crowd yelped, scrambling away as the orange flames climbed toward the sky.
"Guys! Fire!" Rafe yelled, taking in the sight.
"Get off of him!" Kie pushed Topper away from Pope who fell to the ground gasping for air. "Kelce, let go of JJ!"
"Let's get out of here," Rafe started, fleeing the scene. The other Kooks not far behind him.
"You good?" Kiara asked Pope helping him off the ground. "We're okay." She assured. Her heart was racing, her hands still shaking.
"You're a freakin' idiot," Pope responded.
"I saved your ass. Come on." Kiara threw her arm around Pope's shoulder, leading him away.
The sounds of the film continued to echo over the speakers as the sheet burned to ash behind them.
-
Kiara sat slumped against the wall of the St. Andrews hallway that lead into the cafeteria. The frill of her $200 dress fanned out around her. The dress, in her opinion, had been a colossal waste of money but had Sarah actually squealed when Kiara walked out of the fitting room in it. Kiara had tugged at the awkward way the skirt st on her hips but Sarah wouldn’t shut up about how perfectly the blue color fit the Winter Wonderland theme so Kiara bought it. Now, the sequins itching against her collarbone were just annoying her and Kiara couldn’t help scratching at them, making the already red marks on her skin even angrier. She was so fucked. Denny had pulled out a flash during pictures and somehow it kept ending up in Kiara's hands. The whole dance thing had Kiara incredibly anxious so she kept taking sips of the flash to keep her self busy. First during pictures, then during dinner, and in the limo on the way to the school. Now the flask was lying empty on the floor next to her and her nerves were no less settled.
She longed for her pogues so much the pain of missing them made her stomach hurt. Well, that or the alcohol. At that moment, she would have given anything to be back with them. Back with Pope and his overly nervous tendencies, back with John B. and his ideas that usually lead them into trouble, back with JJ and his flirtatious banter that left her blushing a lot more than she cared to admit. They were her family, where she belonged. Not in the gated communities of Figure Eight with mansions so big they had rooms no one entered for weeks. This whole year had been a mistake. She couldn't stand the fakeness of everybody and everything that came as a side effect to bank accounts with the kind of zeros that could seriously help if the 1% gave up being so selfish. Even Sarah's save-the-sea-turtles-with-men façade was fading away revealing another rich kid who didn’t give a shit about who she hurt.
The doors of the cafeteria swung open, the bass of the DJ's music filling the previously silent hallway. Kiara looked up to find Rafe jogging down the hall to her.
"What are you doing out here?" He asked, sliding down the way to sit next to her.
"The room kept spinning and...uh...I thought I might throw up so I went to find a bathroom," Kiara answered.
"You know the bathrooms are on the other side of the school?"
Kiara giggled which turned into a little burb which made her giggle even more.
"Jesus, Kiara. How drunk are you?" Rafe picked up the flask from the ground. He could smell the alcohol on her breath without even getting closer over. “Who's is this?"
Kiara paused for a moment, trying to remember. "Denny's."
"Sarah's date, Denny?"
Kiara nodded her head.
"Fuck," Rafe muttered. "Okay, let's get you out of here before any of the chaperons see and write you up." He stood up and held out both hands to held Kiara to her feet too.
Kiara pulled herself, leaning against Rafe for stability. The doors swung open again and Rafe's date marched into the hallway.
"Ugh, thank God. There you are. This dance is so lame. C'mon, we're all going to Joey's."
"I'm not coming. I have to take my sister home. She's totally trashed."
The girl's eyes moved over Rafe's face, landing on Kiara. "No," she corrected. "You're my date. You have to come with me."
"Did you not just hear me? I'm taking my sister home," Rafe replied.
"Are you kidding me? She's not even your real sister. She's hardly even a real Kook. I bet she's just using Sarah and you for your family's money. Just look at her dress. It's the same one every other wannabe trying-to-hard freshman has on. Pathetic."
Rafe pulled Kiara closer into him, wrapping an arm around her shoulder protectively. "You can fucking leave," Rafe spit back. "I don't wanna hear you ever talk about my family like that again."
The girl rolled her eyes. "Whatever. I was gonna hook up with Brandan tonight anyway. He's way hotter than you." She spun on her, stalking off in the same direction she had come.
Kiara looked up at Rafe, her bottom lip shaking as tears welled in her eyes. "Are you mad at me?" She asked.
Rafe laughed. "Of course not, Kie. Ashley can go fuck herself. Or she can go fuck Brandan. I don't really care." He wiped away the tear that had slide down Kiara's cheek. "Let's go find Sarah so I can take you both home."
-
Sarah was sitting on her date's lap back inside the cafeteria turned South Pole for the night, laughing loud enough at Denny’s shitty jokes that it was throughly annoying everyone around her.
"Get up Sarah," Rafe commanded.
Sarah surprised at Rafe's sudden presence scrambled off her date's lap. Rafe reached down and grabbed a fistful of Denny's shirt. He cocked his arm back and swung his fist straight into Denny's nose which gave a definitive crack on impact. Sarah let out a gasp and rushed forward.
"What the fuck?" She screamed at Rafe, shoving him off her date.
"You're date's an ass. Kie's completed wasted thanks to him" he said to Sarah. "Let's go. I'm taking you both home."
Sarah glanced at Kiara, who was standing slightly behind Rafe feeling both embarrassed at how much she had drank and grateful for Rafe's protectiveness.
"But I wanna go to the afterparty," Sarah protested. "She has you." Sarah's eyes locked with Kiara and Kiara's heart sank. She could tell her "best friend" wasn't about to give up the rest of her night just because she was nervous and had drunk too much.
Kiara shifted awkwardly on her feet. Sarah could have a least pretended to be conflicted, considered missing the party for a second. God, Kiara missed the unwavering faithfulness of her pogues.
Kiara tugged on Rafe's hand and he glanced over his shoulder at her. "It's fine," she slurred. She really needed out of this itchy disaster of dress as soon as possible.
"You're a really great friend," Rafe said to Sarah.
"Whatever," Sarah replied, her voice almost mimicking the way Rafe's date had said the same words. "Let's go find some ice for your nose, Denny."
-
They had found the gold. It was fifty feet down a well under an ax-murders house no less but they'd fucking found it. John B's crazy plan had worked and all they needed to do was get the gold out, a job which had effectively been delegated to Pope. Of course, first they had to wait for John B to get back from his fishing trip with Ward Cameron, some twisted form of pseudo father-son bonding. What was it with men and finishing? Couldn’t they pick a sport that didn’t actively destroy the environment?
Pope sat atop the kitchen counter, a pencil tucked behind his ear, his mouth moving as he made silent calculations. JJ stood in the doorway of the chateau, dripping water from the hot tub onto the floor. Kiara had thrown off the couch cushions and was rifling through the desk draws, slamming each one with frustration when they didn't hold what she was looking for. Kiara noticed this morning that a pin was missing from her backpack. It didn’t seem like a big deal but with every passing second her panic escalated.
“What are you looking for, bro? I swear this house is like one of those Where’s Waldo? books.” JJ asked Kiara.
“Did you just make a reference to a book, JJ?” Pope chimed in from across the room.
“Just because I chose not to read, doesn’t mean I can’t Pope,” JJ replied.
“Both of you are idiots. It’s a picture book anyway, you don't read it. Can you help me find my pin, please? It's the one I've always had on my backpack. The earth, shaped like a heart," Kie explained.
"Right," Pope replied, sliding off the counter where he was sitting. “Why do you care about it so much anyway?”
“It was a gift."
“From who?”
“From someone at the Kook Academy.”
“Sarah?”
“No.”
“You had other friends there?” JJ mocked.
Kie hesitated. “Fine, it was actually from Rafe as a Christmas present.”
JJ and Pope automatically stopped and looked up at each other.
“Bro, please tell me this isn’t the same Rafe who almost beat Pope’s face in last week."
“It’s not about Rafe. It’s about the pin,” Kie said.
“That’s from Rafe,” Pope finished.
“You guys weren’t there. You don’t get it. Whatever," she huffed. “Don’t help me find it then.”
“No, please Kie. Enlighten us," the sarcasm dripped off JJ's voice.
“I said you don’t have to help,” Kie repeated.
“Hey Kiara,” Pope said, grabbing her wrist. He was always the first to tell when something was off with her.
Kiara shrugged him off, wiping away her tears with her tshirt hem before the other pogues saw them.
“There was just this time,” she started, still overturning books like the pin might have been under there. “At a dance. This senior called me a fake Kook. She said my dress looked tacky like I was trying way too hard to fit but I would never fit in because I’d always be a fucking Pogue. Which of course I don’t wanna be a Kook, I was just playing dress-up for the year to please my parents and it’s like she saw straight through. Rafe was there. Like an older brother. Told her to go fuck herself. That if she ever talked about me like that again, he’d tell the whole she had an std.” Kie paused to wipe her runny nose. “He was basically my family so when Sarah dropped me like I was nothing I was sure that meant Rafe didn’t think I was worth his time anymore too. I never reached out to him again and now he just looks at me the same way he looks at every other Pogue.”
Pope cleared his throat, clearly mildly uncomfortable with Kiara’s sudden expression of emotion. It was an almost unspoken rule among the four of them that they didn’t talk about Kie’s kook year. It had sucked, bottom line. She’d shown back up the summer after ninth grade and it was the four of them again just like middle school. No one had the guts to ask about anything that had happened that year so it never got brought up.
JJ couldn't stop himself from remembering what Rafe had said at Midsummers. Tell Kiara she looks pretty hot for a Pogue. Fucking jackass. If he'd been like a brother to Kie, of course he'd know just how to hit her where it hurt.
JJ clinched his fist, wishing security hadn't pulled him away before he'd gotten a chance to swing at Rafe that night. “I still hate him,” JJ announced. “The entire Cameron family thinks they're the shit because they eat from golden spoons or something."
"The expression is born with a silver spoon in their mouth but JJ's right. All Kook’s suck," Pope added.

Rafe had wrestled off Kiara's heels after she almost face-planted in the school parking lot on the way to Rafe's truck thanks to them. He'd gotten up her all the back to the Cameron's house and in the front door successfully without her throwing up. Rafe tried to get Kiara to walk up the stairs but she'd sat down on the bottom declaring she would just sleep there so Rafe had delicately thrown her over his shoulder and didn't put her down until he dropped her on Sarah's bed.
Kiara closed her eye instantly and hummed softly, pleased with the comfortable spot she'd landed.
"No sleeping yet. You gotta drink some water first. Hold on."
Rafe dashed across the hall to his own room and grabbed the bottle of ibuprofen from his bathroom for Kiara in the morning. He also snatched the half-drunk water off his nightstand. It wasn't the best option but it was something.
"Okay, okay. Sit up," he said to Kiara, setting the water and medicine down on the bedside table.
Kiara grumbled but pushed herself upright until her back was against the headboard.
"I'm so happy you're my big bro," she said, reaching out her hand to tousle Rafe's hair. "It's always just been my mom and dad and me. And my turtle, Leo, before I lost him." Kiara felt tears wetting her cheeks again at the thought of her lost pet. "I just thought he might wanna play in the yard but then he ran off." The crying made Kiara hiccup which made her cry even more. "He ran off, Rafe. Turles aren't supposed to be fast.”
Rafe couldn't stop himself from laughing. "I didn't peg you as a sad drunk," he said, putting a hand on Kiara's shoulder to calm her down. "It's okay, Kie. I'm sure Leo is just fine."
Her sniffles stopped momentarily and she looked up at Rafe through her tear-soaked eyelashes. “You know no one ever called me Kie before you did. Now everyone does."
Rafe chuckled. "Alright, drink some water and you can sleep."
Kiara accepted the water bottle and pressed it to her lips, taking a swig. "You promise you're not mad at me? About Ashely and the dance?"
"I promise, Kie. I'd much rather make you sure you're okay."
"You're getting soft, Rafe," Kiara teased as she snuggled herself under the sheets.
"Never," he replied, reaching over and clicking off the lamp on the bedside table before he stood up. "Hollar if you think you're gonna throw up."
"Never," Kie repeated, giggling to herself as Rafe left the room, pulling the door closed behind him.
-
John B's face was plastered on wanted posters up and down the island. The entire county was looking for him, desperate to be the first to claim the twenty-five thousand dollar reward. The wholesome treasure hunt John B. has advertised to the Pogues at the beginning of the summer had gone way south, like equator-level south. None of them had eaten a decent meals in days, much less slept more than few hours. The whole thing was taking its toll but the stacks were too high for them to slip up now. They all knew the odds. John B's word would never stand against Ward's. They had to get him off the island.
JJ and Kiara pulled up the boatyard, the keys to the Phantom clutched so tightly in JJ's palm that they left little indentions. He'd emerged from his house, his jaw set and only held up the keys in response to Kiara asking how it went so she decided not to push him on it.
JJ shoved open the rusty metal door of the garage. "There she be. Hey, girl," he remarked. "1983 formula four-oh-two SR1." JJ pulled the sheet covering the boat off, the sunlight streaming in through the windows making the dust lingering in the air visible. "The Phantom," JJ announced proudly.
"Mmhm," Kie hummed.
"First boat to make the run to Bermuda in under sixteen hours, Kie," JJ paused. "Forty years old! Forty. And it's still the fastest thing that Kildare's ever seen."
"It's kind of a junker."
"Really?" JJ turned to her. "She's right there, Kie. She can hear you. Let's just put it this way. You would not be smokin' weed right now if she never existed, okay?"
"I just hope it runs," Kie replied.
"Oh, no, she'll run alright. She's faster than any of the cutters the boy in blue got."
The sounds of motorcycle engines roared from outside the garage.
"Pope. Finally," Kie exclaimed, jogging to meet him. Hopefully, the Outer Banks sun had burned off any weirdness still lingering from this morning, she prayed.
Rafe appeared from behind the boat and Kiara stopped suddenly, not expecting the sight of him.
"Hey, there. What's goin' on? JJ?" Rafe said and JJ also froze at the sound of the eldest Cameron's voice. "How you guys doin'?”
Barry whistled, announcing his own arrival. "Well, well...." The sounds of a gun cocking send the blood rushing to Kie's ears. JJ raised his hands in the air, backing up as Barry pushed the gun to his chest. "See, don't think I forgot about me and you on the side of the road. I'm here because I want my motheruckin' money."
Barry grabbed the side of JJ's face, shoving him to the ground. "JJ! JJ!" Kie screamed as Rafe pulled her back from the scene. "Rafe!" Kiara struggled against Rafe’s taller and stronger physique.
"That's what I'm here for, ain't it," Barry shouted lifting JJ's head up by his hair.
"It's not you we want, Kie. Alright, Where's John B?" Rafe asked.
"I don't know," she screamed back, her hand slapping Rafe's face on instinct.
"I really wish you didn't do that.”
"Look, I know what you did.” Kie’s voice wavered.
"What? What'd I do?" Rafe's face inched closer to hers.
"You murdered Peterkin."
Rafe's hand flew up to Kiara's throat, wrapping his fingers tight around it. Kiara's mouth fell open in a silent scream as she clawed at his hand. "Don't you ever say those fucking words again," Rafe warned.
"Rafe," Kiara pleaded. Eighteen months later and Kiara could tell Rafe didn’t have a single ounce of warmth left for her. The Rafe that had protected her from handsy freshman boys and made her drink water so her hangover wasn't as bad, the Rafe that had once held a deep sibling-like affection for her was gone, replaced by someone with pure blinding disdain for pogues of any kind.
"Understood? Do you understand? Where's John B? Where's John B?" Rafe asked again, his tone growing impatient
"I don't know," Kie yelled. Rafe’s hand was growing tighter around her throat with every word, forcing tears to her eyes. Fuck this. Rafe Cameron wasn’t about to be the thing that killed her. This rich, white asshole couldn’t get away with two murders.
"Where's John B? Huh?"
"I don't know! I don't know!"
Rafe's hand fell away from her throat suddenly. "Don't touch her," Kiara heard Pope screamed, his voice full of rage as he swung a metal pole into Rafe's back. The look on his face was something Kiara had never seen before from Pope. It sent a chill down her spine.
"Hey!" Barry yelled as he attempted to throw his gun to Rafe but it landed on the ground a few feet short.
"Kie! Kick it!" JJ hollered and the gun disappeared under the boat out of reach.
JJ picked up Barry slamming him into the boat. Pope's fist continued to connect with Rafe’s face. Again and again. Crap, he wasn’t stopping.
"Pope," Kie said. "Okay, Pope. Pope! Pope, that's good! Stop!"
JJ, having thrown Barry aside, moved to pull Pope off Rafe. "Hey, Pope! He's had enough, dude."
"He's good." Kie pleaded as Pope reached for a piece of plastic tubing, pulling it tight around Rafe's neck.
"Snap out of it, man. Snap out of it, dude!" JJ said.
"Pope!" Kie yelled again. "Pope, that's too much!"
"Stop, dude," JJ added. "Dude, cmon! Stop! Stop, dude!"
"Pope! Get off!" Kie desperately tried to make eye contact with him
"Let go! Come on!"
"Look at me!" Kie screamed in one final attempt to stop Pope from going to far. Rafe's face was already turning a concerning shade of red. If Pope crossed this line, Kiara feared there would be no coming back. She already had one fugitive to deal with, she didn’t want another.
Pope dropped the tubing, eyes wide with fear.
"Shit. Oh, shit." JJ said.
Rafe coughed from the floor, blood smeared down his chin.
"Okay, we gotta go. We gotta go." Kiara announced, hustling back the car. They had to get the boat ready for John B. They had to get him off the island. Her Pope-like organizational instincts kicked in protecting her from processing anything that had just happened. Letting her forget the look in Rafe’s eyes as his hand closed around her throat. Three o’clock at the dump. They had to stay on schedule. Three o’clock. Three o’clock. Three o’clock.

The single yellow heart Sarah had responded to Kiara's ‘Happy Birthday!’ text with stared back at her mockingly. She closed out of her messages, opening Instagram instead. Story after story showed the party she hadn't been invited to. A shaky video of everyone singing to Sarah, her face lit up by the glow of the candles. A bathroom selfie of all the girls who Kiara had through became her closest friends, their faces flushed red with joy. She clicked the side button of her iphone making the screen going black. Kiara couldn't stand to look at it all happening for another minute. She flopped backward on her bed opting to stare at the plain, white ceilings of her bedroom instead.
She should have been, standing by Sarah's side, smiling along with everyone in a tipsy haze of happiness, not watching it happen via Instagram. Kiara knew she wasn't doing anything productive by throwing herself a pity party but God, she was pissed. She wanted Sarah to know it too. She picked up her phone from where she'd dropped it next to her on the comforter.
The line rang twice before a voice answered the call.
“Kildare County Police, what’s the emergency?”
Kiara hesitated. Sarah was sure to figure out it was her who had ratted on the party and that would be social suicide enough. But Sarah really had brought this on herself. She should have invited to Kie to her fucking birthday.
“Hello? Anyone there?” The operator asked.
Kiara brought the phone back up to her ear. “Hi, I’d like to file a noise complaint, please. Two six six St. Margaret Street.”
“Yes, the Cameron’s house,” Kiara confirmed, wiping at her tear-stained cheeks and steading her voice as she relied the rest of the information to the operator.
Happy birthday to you, Sarah Cameron.

Ranboo climbed the stairs of the factory, reaching the top and letting his shoulders fall as he spotted Tubbo sitting on the edge of the roof. He carefully made his way over, sitting down beside Tubbo, who had one of his legs held to his chest, his chin sitting on it, staring at the sunset.
“Thought I might find you here.” Ranboo swung his legs back and forth a bit.
Tubbo hummed.
“Is Michael in bed?”
“Mhm,” Ranboo leaned back, “Luckily his chicken plush was dry, so he went to bed easy tonight.”
Tubbo smiled, but it was tight, and fell away easily after a moment.
As much as he wanted to ask Tubbo what was wrong, he knew it was probably a bad decision. Tubbo was a man of secrets. He kept everything on the inside, and trying to pry just made him upset, so Ranboo sat patiently as they watched the sunset.
Snowchester really was beautiful at this time. The golden hues of the sun reflected off the snow and water, creating a warm tint over the town. Tubbo really was an amazing builder. The cute, cottage-esque homes somehow became even more cozy-looking in the setting sun. A distant part of Ranboo hoped they would make it inside before the moon rose, and the cold of the night truly settled into the village.
“You ever think about leaving?”
Ranboo was broken out of his thoughts by Tubbo’s question.
“Huh?”
Tubbo shifted, turning his head to face Ranboo.
“You know, just packing up, getting in a boat, and disappearing. Finding somewhere far, far away where you wouldn’t have to worry about governments or terrorists or wars. Somewhere safe.” Tubbo’s eyes didn’t meet Ranboo’s, instead seeming to trace the lines of his face.
Ranboo frowned.
“I mean, not, not really? I… if I’m being honest, I like it here.” He paused for a moment, “well, not like, here, but… Snowchester. I like being here with you and Michael, and whoever else happens to be around. It’s… calm, I guess.” Ranboo swung his legs idly as he spoke.
Tubbo hummed, glancing back towards the sunset.
“Do you?”
“Hmm?”
“Do you think about running away?”
Tubbo’s brow creased.
“I mean, sometimes. Feel like it’d be easier. Just disappear into the night, before anyone could stop me. Maybe I’d finally get to have that apiary. Like the one we built in L’Manburg, but bigger, with machines and’ stuff.”
Ranboo smiled softly.
“You could make a villager trading ring, like you always wanted. Get all the best enchantments and all the best loot.”
Tubbo laughed quietly.
“And we could build a house, a nice one, in a flower field, with a big backyard for Michael to play in. And we could get a dog.”
“And a cat.”
“And we could learn how to cook properly.”
Ranboo laughed, airy and loudly. Tubbo grinned, leaning against Ranboo. Ranboo stiffened for a moment, and Tubbo began to pull away, before Ranboo carefully wrapped an arm around Tubbo, holding him by his waist.
“Imagine it, just us and Michael, and Tommy, just living super far away from all this bullshit. Maybe sending the occasional letter back. Just. Living. Actually living, without constantly worrying about everything.” Tubbo’s voice went soft, like he was sharing a secret.
Ranboo hummed, before going silent and still.
Realistically… what was stopping them? They could pack everything they needed in like, an hour tops, and tell Tommy to do the same. They could sail north, and keep going until they were safe. Until they found that perfect little flower field. They could bring Michael. They… they could leave.
Tubbo clicked his tongue, bringing Ranboo back to reality.
“You alright boss man?”
Ranboo bit his lip gently, considering for a moment, then…
“What’s stopping us?”
Tubbo tensed up beside him, pulling away to stare at him.
“What?”
“What’s stopping us from packing up and leaving?”
Tubbo blinked, staring at Ranboo incredulously.
“You. You’re serious?” Tubbo’s voice shook a bit.
“I mean, yeah. Like, I don’t know about you, but, I don’t really have anything holding me here other than you and Michael. I’d… I’d miss Phil, and Techno, but they’d understand. God, they of all people would totally understand.”
Tubbo brushed the hair away from his eyes, and Ranboo had to glance away.
“I… Like, you actually want to? You’re not just saying that?” Tubbo looked away slightly as well, focusing his eyes on Ranboo’s hair instead.
“I mean, yeah. I, I um, I think it’d be good. For all of us, especially Michael. He should, uh, he should get to grow up safe n’ stuff, you know?”
A smile slipped onto Tubbo’s face, becoming a grin, and then a laugh. He hugged Ranboo lightly around the waist, and Ranboo gently squeezed back. A sharp pain erupted from his shoulder and a low hiss escaped from his mouth, and Tubbo quietly gasped and pulled away.
“Fuck- sorry Boo, I wasn’t even thinking-“
“You’re crying?” Ranboo held Tubbo’s face in his hands, carelessly wiping away tears even as they burnt his thumbs.
Tubbo batted away his hands gently.
“Stop it, you’re not burning your hands just because I got all sappy n shit.” Tubbo laughed gently, rubbing at his eyes with his sleeve.
“You’re okay?” Ranboo half-reached out to Tubbo, as if to dry his tears again, but pulled back.
“Fuck, Boo, I am so okay. I am very okay.” He laughed as he spoke, bringing his hands up and flapping them back and forth as he spoke.
Ranboo giggled, leaning back on his hands.
“Okay, okay, sorry about that, I just- I’ve been wanting to just leave for so long but I didn’t want to leave you or Tommy or Michael so I just- Assumed I wouldn’t ever be able to, and-“ Tubbo shakily drew a breath in, running a hand through his hair, “You’re sure? Like, 100%, no going back, sure?”
Ranboo let himself think it over for another moment, just in case, but he still couldn’t find any reason to stay. As long as he had Tubbo, Michael, and Tommy with him, he could care less what happened on SMP soil. He’d miss Niki, Techno, and Phil, and it hurt him to know he’d probably never speak to Fundy or Quackity again, but part of him was inclined to believe he wouldn’t have in the first place. So, drawing in a breath, he nodded.
“Yeah. Whenever you’re ready, I am.”
Tubbo rammed his forehead into Ranboo’s chest, making a small “oof” escape him, hugging him tightly. Ranboo wrapped his arms around Tubbo, smiling softly.
“Okay, okay, um, tonight? Do you wanna go tonight? We can carry Michael, and he can sleep on the way, and we can sleep once we’ve gotten a ways out.” Tubbo sprang back, then jumped up, pacing back and forth on the edge of the roof, nearly giving Ranboo a heart attack.
Ranboo stood as well, grabbing Tubbo’s hood and pulling him away from the edge.
“As long as you don’t wander off any roofs, yeah, sure.”
Tubbo just huffed, but his smile didn’t waiver. He passed Ranboo, headed towards the stairs, gently hitting his arm on the way by. Ranboo followed him down.
“Alright, so I can pack up my stuff, and I’ll go convince Tommy to come, and then you can go get your stuff and come back and help me pack for Michael?” Tubbo asked, fidgeting excitedly with the drawstrings on his coat.
Ranboo nodded.
“Yeah, yeah, sounds good, I’ll be done in like- an hour probably? And then I’ll just come back to your house.”
Tubbo nodded, and ran up the steps to his cabin. Swinging the door open, he turned around once more, flashing Ranboo a grin.
“See you in a bit!”
“See ya.” Ranboo replied, smiling as the door slammed behind Tubbo.
Ranboo made his way to the community portal, careful to avoid Tommy’s property. He was pretty sure there was a reason Tubbo had wanted to tell Tommy, and not just for convenience. The blond probably wouldn’t be super on board with their plan right away, and he’d probably need Tubbo to convince him. Either with their super long friendship, or his puppy eyes. Ranboo was sure even Tommy couldn’t be invulnerable against that.
He reached the portal, and stood in it, the familiar nausea hitting him as he entered the Nether. He leaned against the portal’s frame for a moment, and the nausea dissipated as it always did. He walked along the messy cobblestone path that lead to the Arctic, nearly falling off a couple times due to ghasts, and eventually reached the Arctic.
He didn’t think he’d ever get used to the whiplash that was leaving the Nether and entering a tundra.
He reached his house just as the sun fully set, sending the sky into its beautiful twilight palette. He made his way around his basement, arranging as many of his riches as he could fit in his enderchest, and stuffing the rest, as well as survival supplies, into his inventory and a bag. He looked around his basement one last time, and his Enderman… “roommate,” we’ll call it, croaked something that sounded familiar in the same way all Ender did.
Ranboo bit his lip. He didn’t want to just leave the poor guy here, confused… Maybe a note could work? Surely Endermen had translators. He wrote his roommate a note explaining that he was leaving, and handed it to them. The Enderman looked down at the note, and seemed like he might actually have understood it, at least to some degree.
He made a sad croaking noise, and gently pat Ranboo’s head. Ranboo laughed a bit awkwardly, but smiled at the Enderman, who gave him one last look, then teleported away. Ranboo sighed heavily, biting his lip.
All his pets would need someone to look after them, then. He brought them all upstairs, then sat and gave them pets for a little bit. He could probably sneak Dogboo into Techno’s dog house. He was pretty sure the hound army had been decommissioned, and Techno definitely wouldn’t notice the extra dog until he read the name tag, if he ever did.
He was sure Phil wouldn’t mind one more addition to his flock- crow or not, the man was good with birds, and Ranbird would be well taken care of.
That just left him with his cats. Enderpearl, and Enderchest. The thought of leaving them behind put a sharp ache in his heart, but not more so than the thought of seeing Tubbo passed out at his desk after working himself to exhaustion did. Okay. Maybe Niki could take care of them. He knew she’d had foxes before, and cats were similar, if not a bit more independent. He could drop them off at her place on his way out, then.
He took a deep breath, giving one more round of cuddles and pets, then moved to action. He led Dogboo into the doghouse, where the pack immediately started trying to play with Dogboo. Ranboo let him off the lead, and knelt down, hugging him one more time, then leaving and closing the gate tightly behind him.
This next part would be more difficult, but he was sure he could do it without being confronted. Phil was still in Techno’s house, he could hear them talking from here. He brought Ranbird into Phil’s house on his forearm, leaving the bird on the counter in an area where he couldn’t get into too much trouble.
A crow flew down from one of the rosters, poking at Ranbird. Ranboo wondered for a moment if this was a bad idea, but then a few more crows flocked down and cawed curiously at Ranbird before flying back up, with Ranbird joining them. Ranboo let out a sigh of relief, then reached into his pocket, where he’d written Phil a note.
He walked out of the small house, pinning the note to Phil’s front door. If all went accordingly, Ranboo would be gone by the time Phil saw it.
He went back to his house, scooping up his cats and gently placing them in the duffel bag he’d slung over his shoulder. They seemed displeased at being jostled around, but after a moment, they curled around each other and laid down. Ranboo closed the bag as much as he could, still giving the cats room to move around and breathe.
He glanced around his home one more time, then took a deep breath, and stepped outside.
He glanced at Skellyboo for a moment, pondering if he should bring the undead horse, but no, he did not want to have to ride a skeletal horse for as long as he would need to. He could borrow a horse from someone else if he needed to. Tubbo probably had some in Snowchester.
He made his way to the gate that led out of Techno and Phil’s property, and stepped out, closing it behind him. He took another deep breath, and looked up at the sky. He was really doing this. They were really leaving. He suddenly felt giddy in a way he hadn’t in a while. He could picture it now, his and Tubbo’s little cottage, far, far away from here, where they could raise Michael in peace, and-
“What are you doing?”
Ranboo whipped around, suddenly faced with a very concerned Phil, Technoblade standing a few feet away with an expression that implied he was ready to kill someone.
Ranboo hoped it wasn’t him.
“Phil.” Ranboo’s voice turned shaky.
Phil made his way out the gate, his eyes not leaving Ranboo for a second. When he finally stood before him, he wrapped Ranboo in his arms, and Ranboo nearly began crying, though he wasn’t sure why. Perhaps it was that he couldn’t remember being held like this by his real parents. Perhaps it was because Phil was hugging him like he was already forgiving Ranboo for something he hadn’t even done yet.
“Come back inside, mate.”
Ranboo glanced over to Techno, whose eyes held a bitterness in them that he’d only seen a few times before. Ranboo bit his lip. He was supposed to get back to Tubbo soon, but…
Phil and Techno had been so kind to him for so long. They at least deserved a goodbye, an explanation.
“… Okay.”
Phil sighed a breath of relief, and led the other two back into Techno’s house. They each kicked off their shoes at the door before stepping further in. Ranboo gently placed his bag on the floor, glancing up at Phil when Enderpearl made a “mrrrrp” sound, announcing his awakening.
“You can let them roam for a bit, mate. Seems like they’re gonna be holed up for a while.” Phil sat down on one of the chairs around the fireplace, gesturing for Ranboo to do the same.
Ranboo leaned down, unzipping his bag a bit, then nervously made his way to the couch, sitting on the side closest to Phil’s chair with his legs curled up, knees to his chest, leaning against the couch’s armrest. Techno sat behind them at the table.
“Alright, why don’t you start off with explaining why you’re all packed up?” Phil took his hat off, placing it on the armrest beside him.
Ranboo drew in a breath.
“I’m leaving. Not just, not just here, I’m leaving the SMP lands.” He carefully kept his eyes focused on the fire, nervous that if he looked at Phil, he’d find disappointment in his gaze.
“All by yourself? That can’t be good for you, mate. It’d be dangerous, even.”
Ranboo tilted his head, biting his lip.
“I’m, um, I’m not. Going alone, that is. I, uh, I have people I’m travelling with.” Ranboo’s tone hushed on reflex, and he heard Techno chuff behind him.
Phil looked slightly taken aback for a moment, then his face took on a look of consideration.
“Ahh. I see.” His voice held a hint of amusement.
Ranboo blushed lightly, coughing gently.
“It’s not like, um, what you’re thinking, we just- we just want to get away. From everything. From the prison, and the egg, and the wars, just- everything.”
Phil hummed, then sighed. Ranboo risked a glance up, and Phil was looking over at him with a sort of sadness held over him, but still smiling.
“That’s fair. You guys shouldn’t have to deal with all this at your age. I hope you find somewhere safe to grow up. And for that kid of yours to grow up.” Phil spoke gently, like he was scared he might make Ranboo scatter if he was too harsh.
“Your what?”
Ranboo flinched as Techno’s rough voice filled the room.
Phil looked straight at the ground, the look on his face equivalent to him outright saying “I fucked up.”  Ranboo turned around, facing Techno, who was staring at him like he’d grown a third eye.
“So, um, I’m kind of, I kind of got married? And we adopted a kid.”
Techno’s staring didn’t stop.
“Aren’t you, like, 16 or something?”
Ranboo swallowed.
“Or something, yeah.”
“And you have a spouse, and a kid?”
“Um. Yes?”
Techno rubbed his eyes tiredly, his elbows leaning on the table.
“Why is that not the weirdest thing about you? That should be it by a landslide. And yet it’s not.”
Ranboo shrank in on himself sheepishly.
“Sorry.”
Phil laughed gently.
“Don’t apologize for it mate. You’re fine, right, Techno?” Phil turned a pointed gaze to Techno, who was looking between the two of them with tired eyes, like they’d lost their minds.
To be fair, they probably had.
“Yeah, yeah, you’re fine kid, just, jeez. Maybe tell me before you run off into the night next time, alright?”
“I, um. Yeah, that’s, that makes sense, yeah.”
Phil chuckled at the interaction.
“Can I ask who it is?” Techno said with a sigh.
“Hm?”
“Who’re you married to?”
Ranboo’s tail whipped across the couch nervously.
“Oh. Um. You, uh, you know Tubbo?”
Techno sighed.
“That checks out. Makes our visit there make a lot more sense.”
Ranboo furrowed his brow.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean you two kept, like, jumping away from each other whenever Niki or I got close by. You’re not very good at keeping secrets, either of you.”
Ranboo held an ‘if only you knew’ on his tongue, humming instead.
“And your kid?”
“Oh, um, he’s a little zombie piglin named Michael. We found him in the Nether a few months back, and it didn’t seem like anyone was coming back for him, so we brought him back to Snowchester and we’ve been raising him there.” Ranboo’s voice took on a tint of warmth as he spoke about his son, and a soft smile resided on his face.
Techno hummed again, nodding.
“You’ve been keeping him warm, yeah? He hasn’t gone into hibernation?”
Ranboo shook his head vehemently.
“God, no, we’ve got a fireplace in his room and he only goes outside with like, three layers on. We, um, we didn’t know much about piglins? But, but I knew you hibernated because of the cold, and I wasn’t sure how that would affect a kid, so…”
Techno grunted.
“Sounds like you’re doing alright then. The kid’s happy?”
Ranboo turned away slightly, smiling warmly.
“I think so. He, um, he doesn’t know much common yet, ‘cause it’s kinda hard for his vocal chords to replicate the sounds, but, um, we’ve taught him sign, and he seems happy, so, yeah.” Ranboo fidgeted with the fabric on the couch as he spoke.
“Good.” Techno said before standing up.
Phil looked over to Ranboo and raised an eyebrow.
“Tech, where’re you going?”
Techno began making his way down the ladder.
“‘M grabbing some stuff.”
Ranboo checked the time again, biting his lip anxiously. He should really be getting back to Tubbo.
Techno emerged from the basement with a bundle in his arms, and placed it on the table he’d sat at before. Ranboo peered over the couch, spotting an assortment of items, four of which looked suspiciously netherite-like.
Phil whistled.
“‘S that a whole other set of armour?”
Techno grunted.
“You said you have travel companions, and one of ‘em’s Tubbo, and he doesn’t go anywhere without that stealing gremlin, so.” He gestured to the armour, frowning.
Ranboo sprang up from the couch, making his way over to the table. He admired the netherite, and as he touched it he could feel enchantments rippling across it.
“I- thank you, so much, Tommy lost his armour a while ago and I haven’t had a chance to make more yet-“
“Don’t. Don’t thank me or anything, it’s just paying you back for the axe and everything else that’s suspiciously shown up in our chests.” Techno grumbled.
“Of- of course.” Ranboo smiled, beginning to gather it into his inventory.
He was short on space, but he could make do. Once the armour was in its place, he noticed some books and parchment.
Phil strode up behind him, placing a hand on his shoulder as he read the paper.
“It’s a recipe for a special type of mushroom stew. Uses mushrooms from the nether, used to make it for Techno when he was younger. Didn’t know he still had the recipe I gave him.” Phil glanced back up to Techno, who looked to become more and more embarrassed by the second.
“Yeah, well, I’ve already got it memorized, and your kid’ll probably like it, so.”
Phil laughed.
“And the books?” He jabbed Techno in the side gently.
“They’re doubles, I’ve been meaning to get rid of them anyways.”
Ranboo slid his hands over the books, which seemed to be centuries old, their spines and pages worn. On the covers were embroidered lettering, spelling out several classics and myths.
“You’re giving him your myth compilations? The first editions at that. Damn Techno.” Phil’s tone remained teasing, but another layer of softness piled onto it.
Techno grumbled something Ranboo couldn’t pick out. Ranboo stared at the books in awe for another moment, then looked back up to Techno.
“Thank you. Seriously. I’ll take care of them.” Ranboo carefully slid them into place in his inventory, then folded the parchment up and did the same to it.
Phil pulled him into another hug, and Ranboo leaned over and hid his face in the older man’s shoulder. Phil patted his back twice, then gently pulled away.
“I’m proud of you mate. You’ve gotten a lot stronger since I met you. Lot more wise too.”
Ranboo chirped out a nervous “thank you,” to which Phil laughed.
“We’ll miss you kid.”
Techno reached over and ruffled his hair.
“Don’t do anything Phil wouldn’t do. Remember our sparring lessons. And tell those brats that we hope your trip goes well.”
“Thanks Techno.” Ranboo smiled up at him, and the piglin let out a soft chuff.
“You’d better get going. Tubbo’s probably waiting for you, right?” Phil patted him on the back, and Ranboo made his way over to his duffel bag.
“Yeah, we’re leaving tonight. I’m supposed to meet him at his house in a bit.” He kneeled down beside his bag and realized Enderpearl had indeed gotten out and was now nowhere to be found.
“Don’t worry about the cat. A couple more animals aren’t gonna break us.” Phil smiled, nodding over to where Enderpearl was sleeping by the fireplace.
Ranboo carefully zipped up the duffel bag most of the way, still leaving room for Enderchest to move around a bit. He stood, then made his way over to the door and slipped on his shoes, heaving the bag over his shoulder.
“Thank you both so much. For everything.”
“Anytime. And don’t forget to write us. Or I’ll have my flock come find you.” Phil grinned.
Ranboo laughed, and nodded.
“I will. I’m guessing just give my letters to the nearest crow?”
Phil made a clicking noise with his tongue, then pointed to Ranboo.
“You got it.” He walked over, giving Ranboo one last hug, then opened the door for him.
“Bye. I’ll write soon.” Ranboo promised, making his way down the steps.
“Stay safe kid.” Techno leaned against the doorway as he spoke.
Ranboo nodded with a soft smile, and began making his way back to the gate. He turned and waved one final time, and then he was off, back to his husband and best friend.
God.
He couldn’t wait to get there.

I love all your Heizuha contents!!!! Oneshots, drabbles, etc (memes too lol). And your ANGST FICS???? I'M DESTROYED. Just curious, if you are accepting requests, can you write happy shinran and heizuha oneshot? I need something to heal from your angsty AUs 😢😢😢😢💦💦
Hi hello thank you so much 🥺 AH YES HEIZUHA I’m HEART-EYES FOREVER 😍!! My hot-blooded Kendo boi and his Aikido (and Karuta) queen ugh they make me feel so soft. Wait—don’t be destroyed pls omg I have a shinran oneshot first for you right here! And yes it actually is a happy one. Although I gotta say I’m probably even worse at doing happy sappy fluff. But still, I hope you like this! ❤️❤️
Fandom: Detective Conan/DCMK Pairing: Shinichi/Ran Rating: G Genre/Tags: Romance, Fluff Summary: Ran hates being apart from Shinichi. All she wants is to feel his warmth next to her.
Ran is happy to be with Shinichi, even if it means not being physically together and having to survive long distance.
Now she would be lying if she says it doesn’t bother her in the slightest. After they got together and she finds out that Shinichi still has to leave for his ongoing case, her initial thought is that it wouldn’t bother her. She’s grown so used to it by now. It’s not like he’s never coming back, because he always does. After all, they just started dating, and maybe this way they’ll still be in their honeymoon stage for years to come.
They have been doing alright with frequent calls and texts sent to each other. Although she is slightly upset that they can’t physically go out on any dates, hearing Shinichi’s voice always makes everything worth it. She knows she’s going to forget all this as soon as she sees him again.
She does expect Shinichi to be as sad and lonely as she is, but she never asks about it. She doesn’t want him to think that she’s already turning clingy after only a few months into their relationship. And because she is an understanding girlfriend, she never tells him how she feels about it. She has been saying “I love you” more often though, now that she’s more comfortable saying it, which he always happily returned. She never once doubts Shinichi either—he gives her zero reasons to. Besides, they have short meet ups every now and then, and those feel like they are enough for her.
There are certain things that leaves her feeling an extra amount of longing. When she sees couples out and about in the streets, or strolling around the park, or fooling around in the hallway of their school, it breaks her heart a little. She wants Shinichi by her side, to be able to cuddle into his warmth. She wants to walk next to him and hold his hand, to go to the movies and check out cute restaurants.
“I miss you,” Ran mumbles into her mic, only one side of her earphones on. She is lying on her bed, on a call with her boyfriend who is still away, on yet another case. She has to cherish all their calls together because time is all she can afford.
She traces her finger on her phone’s screen, outlining his name that’s currently displayed, yearning to touch him. She can't help but feel disappointed when all she can feel is how hot her phone is. She should probably get a new phone soon.
“I miss you too. More than words can describe,” Shinichi replies guiltily, sad that Ran is so troubled. He has been trying to ease her pain by sneaking away to call her more often these days. He sees the longing in her eyes, always wondering what he can do for her. He hates it, hates seeing Ran’s face contort into sadness and what seems like disappointment. It never gets any easier.
If only she knows that they are actually together literally every single day.
“Anyway, how is your day?” Shinichi asked, trying to change the subject to distract her.
Ran huffs. “Conan-kun left on a weekend camping trip with his class. I’m worried about his safety. They’re elementary students, they’re not supposed to go camping in the mountains yet!”
Shinichi smiles fondly. Yep, he’s definitely on his camping trip all right.
“Also, it is kind of lonely here when he’s not around.” Lonelier, she adds to herself.
“You have nothing to worry about, I’m sure he’ll be okay,” Shinichi reassures, grinning.
“I suppose it’s true. Conan-kun does know how to take care of himself. What are you doing, anyway? Do you have to go soon? Can we switch to video call?” The hope in her voice is unmistakable. He purposely ignores Ran’s questions while wrecking his brain for a believable excuse to not switch to video call. But it is too late, she has already pressed the button that requested for him to accept the call.
Uh oh.
Shinichi curses silently. As soon as their cameras are on, he raises his phone up close to his face, careful to leave the streetlights out of view. “Hi!,” he says, hoping she wouldn’t detect the nervousness in his voice. Ran squints at the blurry screen. She can’t see much, but it is enough to make her whole evening better.
“You know what, Shinichi? It’s okay, you’re probably busy and tired, I understand! Have a good night or morning, wherever you are, okay?” Ran yawns, turning to lie on the other side as she reaches out to switch off her table lamp. “I’m already getting ready for bed anyway. Please stay safe out there. I love you.”
“NO!” Shinichi yells, before realizing how loud and unnecessary it is. He stops to look around, praying that no one around him is affected by the noise he is making. Ran is decently surprised. “Shinichi, what’s wrong?”
“I, uh, I’m staking out a criminal’s possible hideout. It’s really boring here because nothing is happening so far and it’s probably deserted. Keep me me while I wait?” Shinichi asks sheepishly, belatedly realizing how dumb of an excuse he just gave. Is it even believable in the slightest? “I’m just walking around the place now,” He adds as he quickened his pace.
Ran yawns but he can see her nodding her head in the dark. “Don’t you have to be aware of your surroundings, though? What if the bad guys creep up on you?”
“You’re right,” he says half-heartedly, not really paying attention to what she’s saying anymore. He’s trying to climb up the stairs as fast as his feet can take him. He is so close.
Ran mumbles something sleepily in return. How she wishes for body heat, but she only had her blanket to make up for the warmth. She closes her eyes, unaware that the line has gone silent. After a few more beats of silence, she hears the front door being unlocked. She sits up, suddenly alert and forgetting about her call with Shinichi. It is definitely not her father, since she can hear his snores very audibly from his room. Is it Conan, coming back from his camping trip a few days early? But—it’s literally the middle of the night, so if it actually is Conan, he has some explaining to do. She tip-toes to the door just to get ready in case it is an actual robber.
As the door unlocks and the intruder enters, Ran’s eyes widen and her hand flails around for the switch to turn one of the lights one as she recognizes the familiar silhouette. It can't be.
“Surprise.” Shinichi is standing there, smiling widely at the sight of his dumbfounded girlfriend.
Ran stares at the boy in front of her for a good while before reaching out for him in a frenzy. “You’re kidding,” she chokes out, wrapping her arms tightly around him, afraid he will be gone again as soon as she let go.
“I’ve missed you too,” Shinichi sighs, hugging Ran back just as tight. They stand like that, hugging at the door silently, choosing to ignore the fact that her father can very well walk out of his room at any given moment. Shinichi pulls away, frowning, when he realizes that she is crying.
“Hey, don’t cry.” He whispers softly, bending his knees to look at Ran who has her head down. She shakes her head, opting to bury her face in his chest instead. Shinichi run his hands up and down her back, gently kissing the top of her head. “Don’t cry, I’m here.”
Ran looks up, a few droplets of tears streaming down her face. “That’s exactly why I’m crying! You’re back now, for.. God knows how long, and then you’re gonna have to leave me again. Probably in a few hours, or in the morning if we’re lucky,” she cries, sniffling. “I’ve missed you so much.”
Shinichi remains quiet as Ran cries her heart out in silence. Then, he very gently lifts her up, carrying her to the bedroom and setting her down on the bed. “Actually, I have a few days to spend with you.”
“Wh-what do you mean?”
“I mean, you’re right. And I’m not gonna lie to you, I will have to leave again, but not until Monday. So.. I’m yours for the whole weekend.” Shinichi says, hoping for her acceptance, despite how little he is offering her right now.
“The whole weekend?” Her smile is back on her face at this point. Sounds like she will just have to make the most out of this weekend, then. It’s a good thing she doesn’t have anything yet planned. She wipes the tears off of her face. She can’t waste their time together by crying like this. “Oh Shinichi, there are so many places that I wanted to go with you to!”
“We can go anywhere you want,” says Shinichi. That already sounds perfect to him. Truth be told, any moments spent with Ran were perfect. The Where and What weren’t all that important. Like right now. Even in the dim light, he can see how bright she’s smiling. God, all he wanted to do is stare at her and admire her beauty, amongst everything else.
He hates lying to Ran, although it is done to protect her, to shield her. He will have to lie to her some more, but this time, he does not want to make any more promises he can't keep. “It will all be over soon, I promise. I’ll come home for good.” You’re my home, he wants to say.
She has missed him so much—she missed his voice, his scent, his warmth, his presence. She crawls towards him, unable to hide the overwhelming sense of hope that arises after his declaration. “Really?”
“Really.” Ran can feel the tears welling up again. This time, out of happiness. “It hurts so much to not be able to be by your side.”
“I’m here,” murmurs Shinichi quietly as he reaches out to wipe some of her fallen tears away with the pad of his thumb. “... and I’m always watching.” he adds quietly, wrapping an arm around her as he hugs her to sleep.
Ran nods in silence. She has so many things to tell him, but she is content with just enjoying his warmth and presence beside her for now. Truly, nothing can compare to the homey feeling and the familiarity of being next to Shinichi. She lets him hold her to sleep, his voice a lullaby that carries her out of consciousness.
“I’m always with you,” he whispers, leaning down to kiss her forehead, “There’s nowhere I’d rather be.”

All They Really Need
It’s finally here.
Note: A reminder that this is being written Right Now in honor of a strike that is happening on TikTok! There's been an influx of toxic Fanders on TikTok who seem to think that Logicality, Prinxiety, Dukeceit, and Remile are the only valid Sanders Sides ships which is nowhere near the truth! So, a lot of Sanders Sides cosplayers (myself included) are going on a two-week Sanders Sides cosplay strike to stand up to the bullies, and I'm also writing this finally as well! Because I will *always* prefer Analogical and Royality above any other ship, especially Logicality and Prinxiety! So enjoy my boys being gay disasters and finally deciding to make a lifelong promise to each other!

Summary: Virgil decides it's time for the next big step in his relationship with Logan... no matter how irrelevant it may seem.
TWs: a couple swear words, some anxiety, but nothing horrible!
It was a quiet day in the Mindscape.
Virgil was quietly lounging on the couch in the living room, scrolling through Tumblr and generally minding his own business. On the surface level, it might’ve looked like Virgil was just indulging in his typical emo content on Tumblr.
However, the side was actually desperately attempting (with attempting being the keyword here) to pull together a date plan for the evening.
Today was his and Logan’s two year dating anniversary, and although Virgil had come up with his overall plan for the evening a month ago, he had been so anxious about pulling it off that he had been procrastinating it ever since.
This had all stemmed after Roman had suddenly actually proposed to Patton nearly six months ago. It had been a shock to everyone- Patton included! But the two were determined to take that next step in their relationship despite the fact that it wasn’t possible for Sides to legally be married.
Considering that they had basically everything they could possibly want at their disposal, the wedding planning had gone smoothly and had taken much less time than it normally would. As a result, the wedding had happened about two months ago. Virgil and Logan had been the ‘best men’, and Thomas had done his best to officiate.
And in all honesty, Virgil had never seen either side as happy as they had been for the past two months.
Did Virgil originally think that the concept of them, as sides, getting ‘married’ was unimportant because they would never be truly married anyway? Yeah. Logan had clearly felt the same right after the announcement had been made, too. But Virgil couldn’t deny the rising feeling of longing. He didn’t want anything big or over-the-top, but goddamnit, he wanted to make that lifelong promise to the one person he loved most.
He didn’t know how Logan would feel, but he was hoping Logan would agree.
So here he was, ring in his pocket, scrolling through Tumblr trying desperately to come up with a good way to propose.
That was until his peaceful mid-morning was suddenly interrupted by a very loud Prince.
“Yes, the wind blows a little bit colder!” Roman burst into the room, singing what had quickly become one of his favorite songs from Frozen II to sing (especially when he was doing a duet with Patton). “And we’re all getting older! Aaand the clouds are moving on with every autumn breeeeze!”
Roman continued to sing through the first verse of the song, giving both Anna and Olaf’s lines his all. Virgil just rolled his eyes, trying to put his focus back on Tumblr.
That is until he had an idea.
Besides, maybe Roman could help him, anyway.
As soon as Roman got to the start of the second verse, before Roman could continue, Virgil butted in.
“The leaves are already falling,” he sang (a rare occurrence indeed, but he could make an exception). “Sven, it feels like the future is calling.”
Roman paused for half a second, almost instantly catching Virgil’s drift. A wide grin almost instantly formed on his face. “Are you telling me tonight you’re going to get down on one knee???”
Virgil sat up and gave Roman a quick nod, continuing on. “Yeah, but I’m really bad at planning these things out- like candlelight and pulling of rings out.”
Roman plopped down next to him. “Maybe you should leave all the romantic stuff to me…”
Virgil just rolled his eyes. “Some things never change… like the love that I feel for him.” (yes, purposely changing the pronoun.) “Some things never change… like how reindeers are easier. But if I commit and I go for it, I’ll know what to say and do… right?”
Roman gave him a Look. “Some things never change…” He then smirked and stole Virgil’s last line. “Virge, the pressure is all on you.”
Virgil shoved him gently in response. Roman just laughed, deciding not to continue with the song. “So, I thought you two thought getting married was irrelevant?”
“I mean, I did,” Virgil muttered, rubbing the back of his neck. “But… I’ve realized that I wanna make that promise to him.”
Roman nodded. “You know, Virgil, that was actually exactly my reasoning behind proposing to Patton, and sometimes that’s the only reasoning you need. I think, even if he still thinks it’s irrelevant, he’ll do it for you if you truly want it.”
“Yeah, I think you’re right. The only problem I’m having is figuring out just how the hell to do it.”
“Mm, I see. Well, I have a few ideas, if you’d like to hear them.”
“As long as they’re not too extra, I’m all ears.”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Virgil stood outside of Logan’s room, hand in his pocket, clutching the ring box.
It had turned out that Roman could actually have some down-to-earth ideas if he really wanted to, and had helped Virgil come up with a solid plan for the evening that could be easily amended if needed. It was simple and quaint, and Virgil was feeling pretty good about it.
Save for the butterflies in his stomach about the proposal, but that was normal, right?
Virgil took a deep breath and knocked on Logan’s door.
He had taken it upon himself to actually look somewhat decent for the evening. He was wearing the only tie he owned, which resembled his hoodie to a point, along with a purple button-down. It was similar to what he had worn in the courtroom, though Virgil had made a point to wear a black vest, too, to put some distance between the two events.
He was still wearing his hoodie, though. No amount of persuasion from Roman could keep him from wearing it. He was also wearing his signature ripped black skinny jeans as well because they looked good with formal outfits and Virgil would die on that hill.
The door opened, and Virgil’s breath suddenly disappeared.
Logan was looking even more dapper than ever and holy fuck was Virgil gay.
He was wearing a black button-down in replacement of his usual polo, along with his signature tie- but adding on a snazzy blazer that had a gorgeous galaxy print. Adding in the dress pants and shoes Virgil was starting to feel slightly underdressed but he knew Logan wouldn’t care.
“You good there, starlight?” Logan asked, almost teasing in a way.
Virgil finally found his voice. “Oh, uh, yeah, I’m ga- good. I’m good.
Logan just laughed softly and the two leaned in for a quick kiss.
Virgil spoke up after they broke apart. “So, I have a couple of things planned for the evening, actually. For after dinner.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah, I managed to convince Roman to let me borrow the imagination for the night.”
“That actually sounds wonderful, Virgil. I think that’ll be a nice change of pace for a date night.”
“Well, it is our anniversary. I thought it would be appropriate.”
“Indeed.” Logan put his hand around Virgil’s waist, and Virgil put his own hand around Logan’s as they walked down to the kitchen.
Where they were treated to a sight that Virgil was not expecting.
Patton was dressed up in a chef outfit, humming ‘Into the Unknown’ as he stirred a pot on the stove.
“Patton!” Virgil exclaimed. “I thought we had kitchen rights for the night?”
Patton turned to them and grinned. “Aww, you two look so dapper! Oh, yes, Virgil, you guys do have kitchen rights for tonight! I just thought I would do something nice for you two for your anniversary and cook dinner!”
Virgil went red. “Oh- uhh. Well, I guess that works. Thanks, Pat.”
“No problem!” Patton then winked at him and Virgil resisted the urge to bury his face in his hands and groan.
Of course Roman had gotten Patton into this.
He couldn’t complain though, because Patton was the best cook out of all of them, and he had just been planning to stick a frozen pizza in the oven. Roman had probably taken personal offense at that crime against romance at its very core and enlisted Patton for help.
“That indeed sounds wonderful, Patton. What are you making?” Logan asked.
“My secret spaghetti recipe!”
That recipe was not secret, but it was one of Patton’s best recipes, so Virgil couldn’t complain.
“Oh, cool,” Virgil nodded, walking over to the table and pulling a chair out for Logan (like a gentleman, of course). Logan sat down, saying a quick thank you to Virgil as Virgil went to sit down himself.
As they waited for Patton to finish, the two of them chatted quietly, talking about the day they each had, holding hands across the table and just generally being sappy.
After a while, Patton finally came over with two plates of spaghetti in his hands.
“There’s more on the stove if you want seconds!” he said cheerfully. “Don’t worry ‘bout the dishes when you finish, I’ll take care of them later!”
“Are you certain, Patton?” Logan asked, raising an eyebrow.
“You two deserve to enjoy your evening, I can do the dishes for ya!”
Virgil gave in with a shrug. “If you’re positive.”
“I very much am! Now, enjoy your dinner, and if you need Ro or I for any reason whatsoever, we’ll be in the living room watching Mulan!”
Suddenly, in the distance, both left-brained sides heard Roman start booming out the lyrics to ‘Let’s Get Down to Business’.
Virgil rolled his eyes. “Sounds good, Pat. Have fun.”
“I’ll do my best,” he grinned with a wink, walking off.
Logan and Virgil then dug into their dinner, which tasted even better than it ever had before. Patton had obviously made certain everything was perfect. It was mostly silent as they ate, both trying to be polite so as to not make the other have to talk with their mouth full or to have to wait awkwardly to finish chewing before they responded
Then, as they finished, Logan finally spoke up. “So, what’s the plan?”
“Well, Roman conjured a movie theatre in the imagination for me, and I picked out an astronomy documentary I’m 90% certain you haven’t seen.”
“An astronomy documentary I haven’t seen? What a concept.”
Virgil laughed. “Nerd.” Virgil then grabbed Logan’s plate and stacked it on top of his own, putting their utensils on top. He stood up, then held out his arm. “Shall we head out?”
Logan took his arm. “Indeed.”
The two stopped momentarily to share another kiss, which lingered longer than the one before.
“God I love you,” Virgil murmured.
“I love you as well.”
Virgil led them to the door to the imagination and opened it.
Logan gasped.
Virgil had spent a good two hours in the imagination with Roman making sure it looked absolutely perfect. They had studied star charts and replicated the night sky to the best of their ability with the time they had and made sure the setting was in the middle of nowhere. Virgil would’ve liked if they’d managed to figure out the whole ‘movie theatre in the middle of nowhere’ concept, but he digressed. He was still happy with how it turned out, and this was the Imagination anyway- things almost never made sense.
“Virgil, this is beautiful,” Logan whispered, almost even choked up a little bit.
“Roman and I spent all afternoon on this,” Virgil nodded. “I owe him one.”
“Yet Roman would never have been able to replicate the night sky to this degree of accuracy if you hadn’t helped him,” Logan added. “Don’t tell him I said that, though. I can clearly see the personal touches you added to this. I absolutely adore it.”
Virgil hardcore blushed. “Thanks, Lo. Shall we head to the theatre?”
“After you.”
The walk to the theatre was only a few minutes long, but it was a few minutes of blissful silence as he appreciated the company of his boyfriend… hopefully soon-to-be fiance.
As they got to the theatre, Logan took the opportunity to be the gentleman and opened the door for him. Virgil walked through and held out his own arm again in an attempt at the domination of the gentleman role again. Logan relented and let his boyfriend take the lead.
They entered the screening room, which was completely empty save for them.
“Any preference on where we sit?” Virgil asked.
“Might we sit right in the middle? I think that’s a prime spot for optimal view.”
“I agree, middle it is.”
They quickly took their seats and Virgil conjured drinks- iced coffee for Logan in his favorite mug, and hot black coffee for himself. Logan settled into his chair, putting his arm around Virgil. Virgil slid closer to Logan and put his head on the other’s shoulder.
The opening of the documentary came on, and Logan immediately reacted with “I can confirm that I have not seen this documentary!”
Virgil laughed. “Thank god.”
As the film progressed, both sides settled in even closer to learn about the stars some more together. As time went on, the two continued to move closer and closer together, until Virgil turned their two chairs and the one on the other side of Logan into a couch so they could cuddle.
Virgil could tell that not only was this a documentary that the logical side hadn’t ever seen before, there was also content discussed that Logan had not known before. Looking up every so often, Virgil could see metaphorical stars (pun) in Logan’s eyes as he listened intently to every word spoken.
Everything had turned out perfect.
And as the credits rolled, Virgil knew it was time.
Logan sighed as he sat up from where he had been sitting, leaning against Virgil. “That was thoroughly fascinating, Virgil. I can’t believe you managed to find a new documentary!”
“Well, sometimes it just takes a little deeper searching to find what you need. The internet is a wonderful place sometimes.” Virgil sat up as well and stretched as his heart began to race.
“Thank you so much for this, Virgil. Oh, did you have anything else planned, or are we returning to the mindscape?” Virgil’s heart melted at the pure hope in Logan’s eyes, knowing the side wanted to stargaze more than anything. Thankfully, Virgil knew the other side very well.
“You really think I would create a nearly-perfect night sky and not give you the opportunity to stare at it for hours on end?” Virgil teased. “Don’t worry, love, that was the plan all along. Right after one other thing.”
“Oh?”
As his heart pounded relentlessly, Virgil almost chickened out, losing a good portion of the confidence he had built up over the course of the evening in a matter of milliseconds.
But pushing past the thoughts in his mind telling him not to do it, this is a horrible idea, he’s going to hate you- Virgil cleared his throat and began to talk.
“I know we talked a lot about this when the topic first came up, and we both agreed at the time that it was kinda unnecessary, but I’ve been doing a lot of thinking the last few months, about all sorts of things. About how much better my life has been since I left the dark sides. Since I joined this family. Since… I first went out with you.”
Virgil swallowed. “And I’ve realized that my life would be nowhere near as incredible as it is now if you hadn’t asked me to be with you. You have made my life, which was pretty shitty beforehand, actually mean something, when four years ago, I would’ve said to anyone who asked that I wished I didn’t exist. Thomas himself said that ‘it’s a pretty big deal when someone makes you enjoy something you’d normally dread’… especially if that something is life itself.
“I know you might still see this as an ‘unnecessary formality that we don’t need to pursue in order for our relationship to be whole’, but even then… I want this, even if it’s only to make you a promise of forever. I love you with all my being, Logan Sanders.”
The butterflies were gone.
Virgil pulled out the ring box and got down on one knee on the floor in front of Logan. “Will you marry me?”
He opened the box to reveal the ring he had put so much time and effort into summoning. It was a simple black band, with purple highlights, decorated with small white diamonds resembling stars, forming some of Logan’s favorite constellations.
Logan was stunned speechless for a few moments, and Virgil suddenly had an influx of overwhelming anxiety.
He’sgonnasaynohe’sgonnasaynohe’sgonna-
Then Logan went red and buried his face in his hands. “I should’ve seen this coming. I should’ve known this was going to happen.”
“What?” Virgil was very confused.
Logan lifted his head up and Virgil was greeted with one of the most genuinely amused smiles he’d ever seen on the other’s face. Logan then reached into his pocket and pulled something of his own out.
Another ring box.
Virgil’s mouth fell open. “Oh my god.”
“Only we could pull this off.”
Virgil then buried his face in his hands. “We’re so useless.”
They then looked at each other in the eye and broke out into hysterical laughter. Logan fell onto the floor beside Virgil as they leaned against each other, laughing harder than either of them could ever remember.
As Virgil started to attempt to compose himself, wiping a stray tear from his eye, he asked, “So is that a yes?”
Logan nearly started laughing again. “Yes, Virgil. That’s a yes.”
Composure regained, the two of them then launched into a hug, holding on as tight as possible.
Virgil only pulled away for a kiss, and then to slide the ring onto Logan’s ring finger. Logan then finally opened the ring box he had brought, showing Virgil the solid black ring band with a sparkling purple amethyst donning the middle he had chosen for him. Virgil nearly burst into tears at the sight. It was absolutely perfect.
Rings exchanged, they leaned in for another long, perfect kiss. Virgil wrapped his arms around Logan’s neck, and Logan wrapped his arms around Virgil’s waist.
When they broke apart, Virgil was the one who spoke first. “Ready for that stargazing I promised?”
“More than anything.”
Hand in hand, the two newly engaged sides walked out of the theatre and over to the field Virgil had chosen as the perfect stargazing spot.
The rest of the evening would be perfect as they talked about the events that lead up to this. Logan would even share that it was, in fact, he who got Patton to cook dinner, having informed the moral side of his plans that afternoon just as Virgil had with Roman. Patton had no idea Virgil was also planning to propose (and Virgil realized the winks were probably aimed at Logan, not him).
Which also likely meant that Roman hadn’t known that Logan was planning to propose. The other two sides were in for quite a tale when they returned.
But for now, Logan and Virgil just laid down in the middle of the field, the perfect spot for optimal view of the stars, cuddling close together as they enjoyed each other's company.
Yeah, maybe the concept of the Sides getting married was pretty preposterous.
But when it comes down to the bare essentials, marriage was just a lifelong promise to be together for each other, no matter what.
And that was all they really needed.

OCTOBER 21st, 1986
Who do you think of in the early mornings?
When the sun flirts with the treetops and your throat aches with dryness, who lingers in the back of your mind?
For Max, it's almost always Eleven. Sometimes it's Billy and sometimes it's even her dad, Sam, but more often than not, it's flashes of that lovely brunette.
Now, though, thoughts of El don't just happen in the early mornings when one's brain is foggy and grey. It happens when she reads a comic or when she skates past the destroyed remnants of Starcourt. It happens when she hangs out with Lucas or when she listening to sappy '80s love songs.
Oddly enough, thoughts of El almost always come whirl around Max's mind when she's around a girl named Robin.
The two had gotten to know one another rather awkwardly, both being sat down on a stretcher as firefighters and other EMS workers buzzed like busy bees around them. There's no better way to meet a new friend than through shared trauma, right?
Robin tried to comfort the shocked, crying Max through distracting stories, but the words got jumbled and the stories turned soupy. Enough so that Max ended up laughing a bit, though it was a sad laugh. It was a laugh that still held pained tears in her eyes- but it was better than nothing.
Over the months, the two had gotten closer; sort of becoming the female friendship equivalent of Steve and Dustin.
Their friendship is pleasant and comforting. Robin acts almost as though she were the big sibling Max never got to (and will never again get to) have. Plus, it was nice to have another girl around after Eleven left.
Max was pulled from her thoughts as she heard Neil walk down the hallway, all slow feet and heavy steps. She felt her chest grow tight and her stomach twist as she clenched her jaw.
Ever since Billy's death, Neil has been absolute hell to be around. An almost constant haze of alcohol and cigarette smoke follows him like a kicked dog, making him sour at his best and raging at his worst.
Max gripped her blanket tightly as Neil walked past her door, which was thankfully closed.
It's officially been a year since she moved from California, now being October in Hawkins. One full rotation around the Sun was enough to completely toss her world upon its head.
It was strange to think about how different her life was when she was back in California. All the people she didn't know, all the feelings she didn't have.
A soft sigh escaped her lips as she sat up, swinging her legs over the side of the bed. Sometimes she thought about what her life would have been if she'd stayed in California and lived with her dad- but she didn't like paying much mind to those thoughts given how little they changed anything.
Her feet were greeted with cold floors, earning a soft cringe from Max as she stood up. Walking to her dresser, she got out a pair of jeans and an old, sun-bleached t-shirt.
It was Saturday, and Max's plans for the day were relatively nonexistent, though she did know she'd like to stop by and visit with Robin for a little while.
She had a few questions she needed answering and she figured (hoped, mostly) Robin may have been able to help.
She got dressed, then brushed her hair and teeth before washing her face with cold water.
Today felt heavy, which was strange. Normally, once the sun greeted the sky, icky feelings were banished to a corner of Max's mind until the moon again rose. It was easier that way; to smile and laugh without worrying, even if it wasn't genuine.
Maybe the icky feeling had to do with the questions Max wanted to ask Robin, or maybe it had to do with the fact Max hardly got any sleep.
Whatever it was, though, Max didn't want to think about it much longer, and so she ignored it.
Max was fantastic at ignoring feelings. Some would call it compartmentalizing, but Max would call it self preservation.
She grabbed her jean jacket, shouldering it on before slipping on a pair of shoes, then picking her skateboard up. It was still early- 7:48 am to be more specific- so she figured the rest of the party would still be sleeping, but probably not Robin. The girl was the queen of rising early in the morning.
Slowly, she came from her room, already smelling early morning cigarette smoke and misplaced anger.
Her stomach twisted in knots as she heard some rummaging in the kitchen- a glass fall and then some mumbled curses.
Just then, she decided breakfast wouldn't be a priority today. Quietly, she closed her door again before heading to her window.
She opened the window, biting down on her bottom lip as it squeaked open.
Softly, she huffed as she tossed her skateboard from the window, then jumping down with an uncomfortable thud.
Fall whispers in the chilly early morning air, telling of the winter that's to come.
Max runs a hand through her thick hair, picking her board up before beginning to walk to the road where she could ride.
If she were being completely honest, Max seriously isn't a morning person- but she can appreciate how quiet the world becomes when the sun has just barely risen and how it can feel like the world is yours, even if only for a little while.
. . .
If there was one thing Max was usually thankful for, it's the fact Robin doesn't live all that far from her house- Only a fifteen-minute ride on skateboard.
Today, however, Max wasn't as thankful for her friend's close residence. Maybe this wasn't the right thing to do... but who else could she turn to? Who did she trust enough to tell her secret to?
Secrets are what define people, as opposed to what one decides to show the world. There's a type of safety that comes with secret-keeping- but there's also insecurity and doubt.
So... how would the world react to a girl loving another girl?
That single thought made Max chew on the flesh inside her cheek, beginning to feel her pulse quicken. What even was love, anyway? Max knew gay people existed- men who loved men and women who loved women. After all, she was raised near San Francisco.
Robin had already come out to Max.
Well- sort of.
Max had jokingly asked Robin if she was crushing on anyone, to which Robin grew quiet. Quiet enough for it to become worrisome.
Max became stressed when she saw Robin beginning to drift off, and so she immediately apologized for asking a seemingly invasive question, which only made Robin chuckle a little awkwardly
"I... uh," Robin let out a sharp breath, smiling faintly "You wouldn't know her."
Her?
Max didn't press Robin any further after that. She felt she didn't need to, and on top of that, she didn't want to make Robin any more uncomfortable than she already clearly was.
That was a couple of months ago, and the topic of sexuality hasn't come up since. That isn't to say Max hasn't thought about what Robin said.
Max thought of her interaction with Robin often. It was the reason Max hoped talking with Robin would help answer some of her questions... But at the same time, the questions she had made her feel uncomfortably queasy.
The very last thing Max wanted to do would be to damage her friendship between her and Robin, and there was a part of her that thought the questions she had would make the older girl want to sever their friendship.
Max swallowed down harshly as she realized she was nearing Robin's street.
Worst comes to worst- Max can decide not to ask the questions. She can just say something about her wanting to get out of the house- something about Neil being in a predictably bad mood- which really wouldn't be a lie... just, sort of double-speaking.
The feeling of unease only grew stronger as she skated closer to her friend's home. For a quick moment, she considered turning around.
Fuck- Was this even appropriate- to show up at your friend's house unannounced at nearly 8 in the morning with questions one fears the answers to?
Maybe it was.
Max stomped her foot on the ground a few times until she was at a stop, then bent over and grabbed her board. She already felt her chest growing tighter, and so she took a deep breath.
She stared at her friend's house for a few moments (studying it, thinking of the conversation ahead, contemplating what the actual fuck is next) before beginning to walk up the home's cement path and to the porch, where she felt her heart quicken slightly more with every step
Then, taking another deep breath, she raised her arm and gently knocked on the door.
Max knew Robin's mom wouldn't be home just yet considering she was a nurse who worked the night-shift, which made things ever-so-slightly easier.
Robin's mom, Lily, was a lovely woman, but it was better if it was only her and Robin- especially considering Max didn't know what her friend's reaction would be. And, on top of it, she didn't have much longer to think about those possibilities.
"Oh- Hey, Max!" A messy-haired Robin greeted with a smile as she opened the door. "What are you doing here?" Her tone wasn't at all angry or bothered, just genuinely curious.
"I just needed to get out of the house." Max said as Robin moved from the doorway, wordlessly welcoming the younger girl into her home.
"Fair enough." Robin said, closing the door. She knew what Max's home life was like.
"Want some french toast? I accidentally made extra." By 'accidentally made extra', Robin actually meant she was fine with sacrificing some of her food for Max.
"Uh, yes, please." Max replied softly, slipping her shoes off and setting her skateboard down at the doorway. Seeing Robin helped to extinguish some of that anxiety- but still, part of it remained, floating around in her brain.
Max found herself glancing around the home a few times to pictures of a baby Robin and to the occasional small, somewhat floral painting. The house's aesthetic was so completely opposite of Robin's- all peach walls and sea-foam carpets with an almost constant lingering smell of bleach.
"You have any plans for today?" Robin asked, glancing over her shoulder as she walked to the kitchen.
Max shook her head as she followed. "No. Not yet, anyway."
"Good, cause' I want you to hang out with me today." Robin turned away, grabbing a spatula so she could put two slices on a plate.
Max frowned a bit, smiling slightly. "And what does 'hanging out' entail?"
"I dunno," Robin said with a small chuckle, placing the plate down on the kitchen's counter. "I just wanna get out of the house for today. I hate being cooped up all the time."
Robin, unsurprisingly, hates staying in one place for too long. She likes going on walks and driving around- exploring and such. There's almost never enough to see and do, especially in a town as boring and conservative as Hawkins.
"Alright then."
Robin added another two pieces of french toast to a different plate, then went to a drawer to grab out two forks. The whole time she did this, Max watched her quietly. Even though Robin was always fun and interesting to spend time with, Max still simply couldn't stop thinking of what her reaction might be.
But Robin likes girls too, right? So what kind of homophobic hypocrite would one have to be to push away a young girl with questions of her sexuality?
"Want some coffee?" Robin asked, which earned a small smile and nod from Max. There weren't many people she knew who'd offer a 14-year-old coffee. She liked it, though. It made her feel more adult in some ways, even though it was only a beverage.
Silence again fell over the two as Robin prepared for the two to eat. The silence wasn't uncomfortable (at least not to Robin), but it did feel strange to Max.
Glancing to the clock on the wall, Max saw it was a little past 8 now. Fuck.
Getting the question out of the way now might be better, right? If Robin reacts badly, Max can just have the whole day to herself to process possibly losing a friend.
Max ran a hand through her hair, wishing she could simply pause her thoughts. Slowly, she trod over to the counter. Inside, her feelings felt brewed and blended- unable to make any one distinct emotion.
"What kind of creamer do you want? We have French Vanilla and Pumpkin Spice." Robin said, making her way over to the fridge.
Max didn't bother answering the question. Instead, she simply stared at the egg-shell white of the counter, contemplating what the everliving fuck she should do. Her back was turned to Robin, which was comforting in an offbeat way.
Her mind couldn't stop jumping from two opposites- from thinking Robin will in no way help and will think she's weird to thinking she will actually be able to help given she sort of implied she likes girls.
"Robin?" Max finally croaked out, her voice sounding unfamiliarly insecure. She harshly bit down on the inside of her bottom lip upon feeling Robin's eyes land on her. At that moment, she wished she could shrink down and disappear or simply, that she never spoke in the first place.
Robin frowned once she heard Max's tone, just how peculiar it sounded. Almost automatically, something felt off. "Umm... Yeah?"
Just say it.
Just say it.
It's not that hard.
It's not that fucking hard.
"How do you know you like girls?"

when the bad nights hit (i will always be there for you)
Okay so tbh, i don’t really love this but whatever also art is at the bottom but idk why i made it, i can’t art or anything someone stop me, also this is literally just an excuse for me to write Peter and Harley as bros
AO3 link   Words:1,750
Harley Keener and Peter Parker were not depressed.  Not in a way that was suicidal or too self-deprecating, at least.
But they still had those bad days where the sun could be shining, and there would be happy music playing in the background of the day, and everything could be perfectly alright, but they would still feel like they wanted to sag to the floor, tune out everyone and cry.
Or it could just have been an awful day and their moods decided to drop, making everything awful.
Some days it was worse than others, and it was somewhat okay now. They would always help the other through their bad days.
The fun time though, was when they both were having bad days at the same time, and they’d just sit and be completely out of it with each other, not even trying to fix it.
Today was one of those days.
Harley was staying at the Tower for a week during his(and coincidentally Peter’s) winter break.  Which, of course, meant Peter was staying at the Tower too (and dragging May along with him).
They had a whole week of activities planned to make Tony’s hair go gray faster than it already was, planned.  Somewhere along the way, MJ and Ned were definitely involved too, probably against their will but it was fine.
They definitely had fun the first few days but then one day it was frigid, everything was a shade of grey, and it seemed like the air they breathed was trying to suffocate them.  Both were too stubborn to admit it, though, so now you have 2 gloomy teenagers who were trying to hide it.  Anyone can see what problems that would cause.
Admittedly, it was absolutely hilarious to see Mr.Stark and May jump when they planted the glitter bombs in the kitchen for breakfast, but it wasn’t as funny as it would usually be.  You could say it even made the day worse.
Peter and Harley are stubborn - it’s mostly Harley though, and Mr.Stark jokes that he corrupted Peter - and because of that, neither admitted they wanted to just take a nap.
They had eaten dinner, it was spaghetti from one of Mr.Stark’s favorite places.  They joked and talked across the table, telling May what they had done, while constantly switched between scolding them and laughing.  Neither of them were really into it though.
Truth be told, everyone was exhausted, teachers believed winter break meant they could give extra homework (which literally makes no sense), Tony had been stuck in meetings most of the day, and May’s shift was long and tiring.  It was just a really tiring day.
The two boys had mostly just watched movies on the couch the whole day and worked on the calculus the whole day and it was pretty boring.
So now they were going to bed at 11, which wasn’t that late but Mr.Stark threatened to call Pepper so they didn’t really have a choice- you can’t go against Pepper, everyone knows that.
At 12:23 when Peter came stumbling into Harley’s room, he wasn’t surprised, he’d actually been waiting.
“Where’ve you been Parker?” getting up and rolling his eyes ”, o to your room and grab some blankets and pillows”
Peter looked very idiotic to Harley at that moment, he was only weaning sweatpants and a t-shirt, looking too much like a deer caught in the headlights.
“W-wait, what?”
“We’re going out, duh, how’d you get into a STEM school?”  Harley was already throwing stuff into a bag.
“Ok, geez go easy,  ‘m half asleep” He looked down at himself, ”I’m wearing my pyjamas”
“Then go and put clothes on,”  he sighed dramatically before shooing Peter out of the room”, now go, and meet me in the living room”
10 minutes later
Harley threw one of his hoodies to Peter as he walked in
“Come on”
Peter let his arm be tugged along by his pseudo brother, and was surprised when they stopped in front of one of Tony’s trucks.
“We’re driving?”
“You want to walk? Come on get in”
“Why does Tony even have a truck?”  Peter said while getting in
“Probably from his playboy days because I haven’t seen him touch this beauty once,”, Harley spoke, running a light finger across the dash.
“Didn’t you just get your license?”
“Yup, and I’m going to abuse it all I want, now stop asking questions”
“Where are we going?”
Harley stayed quiet and pulled out of the parking garage.
“So you’re not telling me?”  nothing “Okay fine, whatever”
Peter wanted to know where they were going but he knew Harley wouldn’t budge, Harley was annoying like that,  he’d just be wasting breath.
Less than 15 minutes later they pulled into a McDonald’s drive-thru,
Ok so just a midnight snack, Peter thought,  that shouldn’t get us into to much trouble, except Peter knew there was more, this was Harley Keener for god’s sake
“I’m getting milkshakes, now, strawberry, chocolate, or vanilla?”
“Chocolate”
“Thank god these things are open 24/7,”  Harley said
Peter hummed in agreement
“Hi there, can we get 2 large chocolate milkshakes and 3 large fries...yes that’s all, thank you”
“Why 3 fries?”
“Because if I don’t you’re going to eat all of mine” he deadpanned
“I wouldn’t if you’d just share” Peter mumbles
Harley looked incredulous, “last time I shared you literally ate them all”
Peter gave him a shit-eating grin, “ You love me”
“Sometimes I wonder why”
“Meanie”
“Ha-ha”
They pulled up to the window and the second Harley handed one to Peter, he started slurping it up
“Slow down” he took the drink from Peter, “You’re going to finish it all”
Peter very maturely stuck his tongue out at him and tried to take the milkshake back.
“Nuh-uh nope, not until we get there” Harley reprimanded, pulling the drink farther with one hand and steering with the other.
“Get where, Harley”
Harley didn’t answer
“I hate you,” Peter said
“No, you don’t,” Harley said barely even glancing at Peter
They sat quietly, munching fries, at one point Harley turned on the radio, and some cheery  ho-lucky music came on.
“Nope,” Harley grimaced and shut it off “Really it’s like 1 am”
“They have no taste” Peter mumbled
20 minutes later, Harley spoke, spooking Peter who was looking out the window in a stupor.
“We’re here”
Harley was pulled onto a grass field bordering a forest.  They were parked under a massive tree that partially hid the maroon truck in the shadows.
“What blanket did you bring?”
Peter reached down and pulled up a spiderman blanket, Harley rolled his eyes.
“You only brought one?” Harley said with distaste
“You didn’t even tell me where we’re going!” Peter accused
“It’s winter in New York”
“So?” Peter questioned
“You’re lucky I came prepared.”
Harley was definitely prepared, he brought 2 thick blankets, multiple pillows,  and extra hoodies.
Harley gestures for him to get out, “Come on help me set up”
Peter at his point knew what they were doing and he loved Harley for it.  He grinned, “Alright” he stepped out, “Shit, it’s cold”
“I gave you one of my hoodies,”  Harley said
“Oh yeah”  while Peter was pulling it on Harley went to the cargo bed of the truck (which was empty) and laid a sheet down before throwing on the blankets and pillows.
He had also brought portable fairy lights and set them up so that they were on the back window hanging above them.
They both sat back and Harley pulled out a laptop.
“Here now you can have your drink,” he said, handing it to him “also what do you want to watch?”
They both decided on Onward, it had come out recently and they had both wanted to watch it.
Peter interrupted halfway through it by shivering and pulling Harley’s blanket more to him, “It’s freezing” he whined.
Harley snorted at that since Peter was taking up all the blankets already.
“It’s because you’re part spider, doofus”
The credits rolled 50 minutes later with them both leaning against each other, heavily.
“That ‘as a n’ce movie” Peter mumbles, half-asleep
“Yeah, it got sappy though”
“Rem’nds me of ‘s”
“Yeah, makes sense, I’m that cool older brother”
Peter snorts, “Barley wasn't that cool”
“Are you kidding me, he sent his van flying.  That counts as cool to me”
They sat in silence for a couple of minutes with Peter trying not to nod off.
“I don’t want to drive back,” Harley says, “I’m tired”
“So what? We’re sleeping here?”
Harley’s already laying down, “Yep”
After a few minutes, Peter blinked awake for a couple of seconds, “This was fun, thanks”
“No problem, today was terrible”
“Love you Harls” Peter’s face is half-buried in the pillows
“Don’t get sappy, Parker” then “...love you too”
“...Did you tell May where we were?  If we get in trouble, i’m pinning it on you”
“Shushh”
At 4 am Harley woke to the sound of repulsors, without missing a beat he said, “You worried about us?”
“Not at all, Keener,”  Tony said stepping out of the suit
“That’s a lie, old man”
“Old man!” he said faking offense
“Mm-hmm could hear your joints cracking from here” he sat up, untangled his legs from Peter’s,  and looked at Tony.  Tony’s looking at the truck, “I remember this one, Rhodey actually helped me pick this one,” he sighed “haven’t used it since college though… anyway is Peter up?”
“Probably,” Harley said flicking the younger boy’s head
“OW, fine i’m up,” Peter said, sitting up
“Geez, you too look like raccoons, how much sleep did you two get?” Tony said stepping onto the truck with them
“We got like 2 hours” Peter supplied
“So, I suppose you don’t want to go back to the Tower right now?”  he asked
“Oh hell Nah, I’m going back to sleep, it’s still dark,” Harley said laying back down and snuggling into the blankets
“Me too” Peter added, following Harley
“Well I’m not going back to the Tower, just to come back for you guys,” Tony said
“Then join us,” Harley said with an arm wrapped around Peter
“Fine,” he said right after snapping a pic of the two boys
Harley opened his eyes, “You better delete that”
“No way, it’s getting framed and sent to May and Pepper” Tony smiled, and eventually it did end up getting framed.  It was one of Tony’s favorite pictures to look at.
oh my god i hate this art sm but idc at this point-

For the OTP prompts thing, 6 Proto-Cu and Robin again? Sorry for asking again, I just really enjoy your writing.
6. "Here, take my blanket/jacket." "I'm not cold." *Shivering*
Ah, thank you!! I realized that the last prompt you asked me barely hinted at the ship at all, which I'm going to make up for here! I should really change up the POV, though...if this pairing is requested again it'll be from Robin's POV!
(Lowkey read the 6 as a 4 and started laughing at the mental image of Robin hissing at Proto Cú like a cat)
----
Proto Cú loved winter.
The smell of freshly fallen snow, the blanket of white across the landscape, the tiny fluffy crystals floating down towards the ground from the heavens...
He loved it all.
His other counterparts, unfortunately, shared other opinions. Cascú griped about the heat being turned up in Chaldea, which usually upset his concentration and raised his already abnormal body temperature. The layers of clothing he had on certainly weren't helping any. The other Lancer complained about the cold forcing them and their Master off of the battlefield, which meant less fights for Lancer and more time to do anything but fight. And Alter...
Proto was pretty sure that Alter hibernated.
So when Master suggested that they go see the auroras at the North Pole the night of Christmas Eve, Proto Cú was ecstatic. He was so ecstatic that he forgot to bring any extra layers with him, opting for a thin black turtleneck and relying on his own abnormal body temperature to keep him warm. Emiya, with his parental instinct, had managed to give him a pair of dark blue earmuffs to protect his ears from the biting winds before they left.
And protect they did. Proto Cú wrapped his arms around himself, glancing at the other Servants who gathered for the sights. He could see Diarmuid and Jeanne leaning against his Alter counterpart, talking quietly with smiles that refused to leave their faces. To his left was Arthur, awkwardly wedged between Gilgamesh and Ozymandias, the other kings' laughter trapping him in place.
Proto Cú winced. I kinda feel bad for the guy.
"Oi, there you ar- What are you wearing?!"
Proto Cú regretfully let go of his hold on himself to face Robin Hood, who stared incredulously at him as he made his way over.
He grinned, waving him over. Ever since the pranking incident gone wrong a couple weeks back, Robin seemed to hang out with him more often and even gave him a portion of his food for breakfast.
Sometimes, too, they'd visit Robin's forest to talk for hours on end. Proto Cú liked those moments the best; there, Robin was more open, more honest with both himself and others. Those moments always left Proto Cú wanting more, though for what he didn't know.
Robin's voice brought him back to the present. "Where's your coat?"
Proto Cú's grin turned sheepish. "I...may have left it behind."
Robin's eyes glinted, scrutinizing his face. Proto Cú's cheeks started to warm under the intense examination. Wait, what? "You got too worked up about the event, didn't you?"
Proto Cú's sudden interest in the snow made him huff in exasperation. The Lancer spared a glance his way, and was surprised to find something fond in the way he looked at him. What's wrong with me? Why am I thinking like this?
He glanced away, missing the frown that flashed across Robin's face. Before either of them could break the awkward silence, Da Vinci stepped up onto a soap box and spread their arms out wide.
"Hey, everybody! Thanks for coming out tonight! The auroras are supposed to appear any minute now, so please turn your attention upwards!"
Dozens of eyes turned towards the sky...and Proto Cú's breath was blown away.
A myriad of colors painted the sky, flowing and billowing on an unseen wind. The snow that fell into their faces was fluffy but light, allowing them to get a good look at the sight before them.
An uncontrollable grin spread across Proto Cú's face. In the background, he can hear other Servants cheering and the younger Servants playing in the snow.
Proto Cú himself laughed, the sound drowned out by the cacophony of voices that rose up in wonder. This...is what I'm fighting for. Screw Solomon's Grand Order; we don't need it.
His happy mood was interrupted by a sneeze. It was so sudden that it took himself by surprise, and it was only a few seconds afterwards that he felt how cold it was.
He shivered, rubbing his arms in an attempt to warm them up. He was starting to regret not picking a heftier sweater to wear...
Robin sighed next to him, the closeness of the sound making him jump. "You can be an idiot, sometimes. Here; take my cloak."
Proto Cú's eyes narrowed, his head turning to look at him. "What - "
He stopped when Robin moved to place himself in front of him. He was already unclasping his hood, hands quickly yet gently reclasping it around Proto Cú.
Robin refused to look at him. "Just shut up and let me work."
After a few moments Robin took a step back, satisfied with his handiwork, and Proto Cú's words died in his throat.
It was...warm. It was certainly warmer than he thought it'd be. The cloak quickly warmed him up, and he buried his nose into the fabric with a contented sigh. The fact that it smelled like pine trees, like Robin made the temporary gift all the better.
He looked up, beaming. "Hey, thanks Robin!"
Robin made a strangled noise, turning away. It was then that Proto Cú noticed how red his ears were, not to mention the dark green sweater that looked more like a coat.
"...Don't sweat it. Bathory gave me this to wear, so that was just getting in the way."
"Hey, don't say it like it's something repulsive!" Bathory seemed to appear out of thin air, making them jump.
A knowing smile stretched across her face, as teasing as it was merciless. "Ah, so this is why you ran off."
Robin gritted his teeth, turning away from her disdainfully. "As if. I'll take anything to get away from your energy."
Proto Cú blinked. He wasn't blind; Bathory's teasing, Robin's curt sentences, the stiffness in his movements. A grin threatened to break out on his face as he hugged Robin's arm, pulling him away from Bathory.
"Yup, he's mine, so go find someone else!"
Bathory stood, dumbfounded, until a laugh tore its way out of her body. "Ah, so that's it. My bad, I didn't know he was taken!"
Robin gaped.
Bathory waved them off, still laughing. "Have fun, you two!"
Proto Cú passed by his older Lancer counterpart, who looked ready to tease him when Emiya wrapped a black scarf around his neck. The Archer did it with such care that the other Lancer's words died on his tongue instantly, eyes wide and a blush spreading on his face like wildfire.
Proto Cú grinned. "Having fun with your date, older me?"
"Bite me." Fsn Cú grumbled, even as Emiya turned away with his ears burning. Proto Cú felt rather than saw Robin chuckling beside him, although it came out choppy.
Once they were a considerable distance away, Proto Cú let go. He scratched his cheek, realizing that in their escape they became separated from the partying group.
What the hell do I say now?
"...Cú."
That got his attention. Robin usually only ever called him Proto, although now that he heard his name fall from his lips...
He wanted to hear it again.
Shaking his head to rid himself of the sudden, sappy thoughts, he faced Robin. "Yeah? What's up?"
"Did you mean it?"
Ah, that. Proto rubbed the back of his neck, suddenly feeling bashful. "Uh...yeah. You sought me out tonight, so I got dibs on you. Although, seeing your reaction was worth it in its own right..."
Robin fell silent, instead opting to watch the skies above. They stood side-by-side for about a minute or so before the May King spoke up again.
"I need to tell you something."
The seriousness in his voice made Proto Cú pause. He glanced at Robin, who stubbornly kept his gaze upwards.
"Listen...I - "
"I know."
Robin's eyes whipped towards him, mouth hanging open. "You - What...?"
Proto Cú smiled, light laughter leaving him. "I'm no dummy. I'm the Hound of Culann; I can tell when someone's pining."
Robin fell silent beside him. Proto Cú continued to talk, oblivious to the way Robin's frame shook. "Though, you hid it well. I was surprised myself; to think that the one person I was courting would end up developing feelings in tur- mmph!"
Lips, soft and gentle and warm, covered his own. Hands gripped his shoulders, preventing him from leaving. Eventually, Proto Cú melted into the kiss, hand reaching up to tilt Robin's head and get a better angle.
This was...sweet. It felt nice; it felt right. Proto Cú may have only kissed a few people in life, but by far the one he now shared with Robin was his favorite.
It was over all too soon, in his opinion. Robin pulled away first, looking smug. "If that's the only way to shut you up when you get going, then I'm gonna have a hell of a time doing this."
Proto Cú stared, dazed. Robin's eyes widened before a blush of his own erupted, causing him to hide his face in his sweater.
"Wh-What the hell are you doing, giving someone that look? I swear, you're gonna be the end of me..."
Proto Cú snapped out of it, instead chuckling as he carefully pried Robin's hands away from his face. Robin refused to look up, suddenly finding interest in the snow on the ground.
"You think I'm gonna let you go after a stunt like that?" He whispered as he drew Robin in for another kiss.
Indeed, winter was his favorite season.

Date Nights Are Tricky, When Your Boyfriend Is Merged With A Serial Killer. ( @ask-manbat)
Kirk’s eyes widened. “You- really? I- you don’t have to, I- I don’t want to waste your time-“ he said, an absolutely flustered mess. They grabbed Kirk’s hand, pressing a kiss to it before starting to tug him towards the couch with yet another laugh. “Any time with you is time well spent, mi amor.” Kirk blushed again, following along despite his better judgment. “You- you’re too sweet to me, you know” he said quietly with a soft smile. Zebra bounced onto the couch, giggling to themselves, and idly scratching at one of the pillows. “Well you deserve all the sweetness in the world, plus a little extra!” Kirk nodded with a small smile. “Thank you dearest, that means a lot to me” he said, pressing a kiss to each of their cheeks and gently pulling their hands away from the pillow. They looked at Kirk with a faint blush, stubbornly holding on for a moment before letting go. Scratching at their clothes instead. They liked the noise. “So how can we pamper you, baby~?” Kirk blushed and shook his head. “You don’t need to pamper me at all, honey- really” he said softly, frowning at the scratching. “Please be careful, dearest” Zebra smiled once more. “Just.. a nice feeling against our fingers. Sorry, sweetheart.” They apologized sincerely. They then kissed Kirk once more, “Beautiful, handsome, adorable, gorgeous...”
Kirk’s blush had reached up to his ears at this point and he was having difficulty thinking straight. “Not- no- no problem, dear. Just- just want you to be careful and- and know how lovely you are too-“ They shuffled a little closer, holding Kirk close, the glitter moving onto his clothes too. Giggling softly they’d continue praising him, occasionally giving soft kisses to his neck. “Perfect.. amazing.. love of my life...” Kirk hummed in contentment, leaning into the kisses. “You- you’re too sweet to me, love” Zebra chuckled softly, giving him one last kiss on the neck, almost biting him as their fangs caught his skin before pulling away. “That’s because we like.. LOVE you~!” Kirk gasped at the bite, he certainly wasn’t opposed to it. “I love you too, you know that honey” They seemed so damn happy to be around Kirk, scrambling onto their lap with a soft hiss. “I could.. stay here with you for like, forever.” Kirk nodded, running a hand through their hair. “I know, dear. I know” Zebra looked up at Kirk before grinning wickedly and pulling him into a deep kiss, putting one hand up Kirk’s shirt. They had absolutely no impulse control. Kirk gasped into the kiss, nevertheless holding Zebra close and kissing them back eagerly. They waggled their eyebrows biting down slightly on Kirk’s lips. Zebra kept murmuring words of praise, hands roaming Kirk’s body. “Mmm.. cutie~.” Kirk was absolutely adoring this. He hummed happily, leaning into the touches. “You- you’re so perfect, handsome- sweet-“ he mumbled.
Zebra squirmed some more with a delighted hiss, before pulling away. “You know it, mi amor. Takes a handsome person to know one, though.” They said sweetly, their accents getting well and truly mangled together. They sounded somewhat Italian, somewhat Spanish. Kirk nodded before cupping their cheek and kissing them deeply once more. “You- I love you honey, so much” he said softly. They kissed back eagerly, rapidly going from rough and bitey to soft and tender. “We.. aren’t beiiiing toooo sappy right~?” Kirk shook his head. “Of course not, dearest. You’re wonderful” he said with a small smile. “Don’t wanna.. suffocate you with love!!” They said with a laugh, wrapping their black boa around Kirk’s shoulders. Kirk cuddled close to them. “That could never happen, dearest. I promise” he said, peppering their neck with small kisses and gentle bites. Zebra giggled cheerfully, never seeming to drop their happiness, blushing faintly at the attention. “T... ticklish.” Kirk grinned and raised his eyebrows. “Oh?” He said before doing it again. They purred softly, closing their eyes, scratching weakly at Kirk’s chest. “Yessssssssss...” Kirk smiled, continuing to pepper their neck and face with kisses and bites, gradually getting slightly tougher. Zebra was practically dying of the affection here, letting out a soft whine. “Kirky, it tickles s-sssssweetheart~. We’re like.. totes gonna return smooching hell upon.. yyou after... thissss.” Kirk chuckled softly. “Oh will you? Well then I see no reason to stop~” he teased, kissing their cheek. “Baaaaby, nnnnnonono- ssssstooop.” They whined, their tone turning quickly very over dramatic. “This is how we die. Kissed to death.”
Kirk had an idea. “Alright, if you insist,” he said, pulling away and just sitting there. Zebra froze, poking Kirk with a sharp white nail. “Continue.” Kirk shrugged. “Well, I don’t want you dying from my kisses, dearest. So...” he trailed off, a small smile tugging at his lips. They faceplanted right into Kirk’s lap, looking up at him with pleading eyes. “Pleaaaaaase~! A little dyin’ of like.. love never hurt!!” Kirk immediately blushed at that, chuckling quietly as he ran a hand through their hair. “Mmm... I’m not sure~” he teased. Zebra started whining softly, tapping their head into Kirk’s lower stomach. It was honestly quite pathetic. “Love me pleaaase or we’ll shriver up and diiiieeee.” Kirk smiled down at them, “Well I certainly wouldn’t want that now, would I?” He said softly, gently grabbing their hand and kissing it. “The hoteness in the world would.. fucking halve if we died!!!” They complained, before immediately blushing when they were kissed even just on their hand. “Well, why don’t you come up here and kiss me, hm? Never said you couldn’t do that...” Kirk pointed out with a grin. Zebra hastily and harshly kissed Kirk, holding him tight. “Ours now. Ours. All your affection is *ours*.” Kirk kissed them back enthusiastically. “Yes- yes indeed it is, dearest. All yours” “Heeehe.. yay~! Second sexiest man in Gotham is alllll ours.” They said rather possessively, clinging to Kirk . Kirk nodded, “The same to you, honey. You’re wonderful” he said softly, trying to disregard the possessive tone from earlier.
They paused for a second, suddenly looking very conflicted. “We.. were gonna do something. But.. then we wanted to do another thing and now we can’t decide~!” Kirk cupped their cheek gently. “What did you want to do?” “Wasn’t sure if I should stay here and cuddle you like. Forever. Drag you out to party a little, crush you in a hug or all of them!!” They blurted. Kirk laughed quietly. “Well... what do you want to do now and what do you want to do later? Personally I’m not against a bit of cuddling” Zebra questioned it for a moment before latching themself around Kirk, holding him in a very tight hug. “Hug ya to like, death~! I’ll do that first!” Kirk smiled and hugged them back, wincing slightly at the force of the hug. “Sounds perfect, dearest” They hugged tighter, absolutely covering Kirk’s cheeks with their lipstick. “Hehehhehee, cuddle time.” They purred. “Won’t bite unless ya want us too~.” Kirk gasped at that. “A- a little too tight, honey. And- and I- I suppose I wouldn’t be adverse to the- to the idea...” he stuttered out. They didn’t let go, immediately grinning and burrying their face in his shoulder, biting down gently. “Then we will~.” Kirk bit his lip to try and keep himself quiet, but he tapped at Zebra’s shoulder. “Honey- honey that’s still a little too tight- it hurts a little-“ he muttered, conflicted between enjoying the bites and gradually not being able to breathe. Zebra just sort of looked at him with a smile, before going back to the bites, well and truly straddling him at this point. “Can’t breathe~? Poor baby.” Kirk was starting to panic, unable to really think straight from all of the attention. “Please- please just- loosen your grip a little-“ he asked. They sat back a little, questioning it for a moment before reluctantly letting go a bit- just enough to let him breathe again. “Better, mi amor~?”
Kirk nodded, quickly trying to get as much air in as possible. “Yes- yes that’s fine dearest, thank you...” Zebra looked slightly concerned. “We didn’t hurt you right~?” They asked hastily. Kirk shook his head quickly. “No! No you didn’t- just a little too tight was all” “Oops~! I mean we considered tryin’ to crush ya ribs but we love you too much to hurt you!” They said cheerfully yet completely honestly. Kirk tried to hide his growing panic. “Well... thank you, I- I appreciate that” he said quietly. Zebra looked at him happily. “You’re such a fuckin’ cutie~! Have I told you that?” They said happily, a little bit of Harv’s usual growl slipping into their voice.Kirk instinctively relaxed at the praise. “I- I suppose you might have, yes...” he said, blushing once more. They gently took Kirk’s face in their hands, digging their nails into his skin. “Handsomest man after us, because we’re hot shit. I’m a goddamn.. strawberry oreo, and the hottest one at that... fuck that didn’t make sense, did it~?!” Kirk winced slightly at that but nodded anyway. “That made perfect sense, honey” “Fuck yes!! I make sense!!” Zebra said with a distinctly rough laugh. “What’s the matter, we hurtin’ ya cute ass again, baby~?” Kirk looked away, “Just- the nails...” he said quietly, putting a hand over Zebra’s and gently moving it away from his face. They shrugged it off, dropping their hands to their lap once more. “Oh. Okay~! Heehee, I wouldn’t wanna damage that cute fuckin’ face of yours.. Jeksy.” Zebra said affectionately, seemingly stuck between Harv and Flam’s speaking patterns. This was a mess. Kirk’s eyes lit up at the familiar nickname. “Yes- yes I doubt that would be a good idea...” he said quietly, holding them close.
Zebra grinned. “Unless.” Was all they said, before giggling once more, snuggling up real close to Kirk. “Awh, Jesky baby. You’re an absolute.. fucking cutie. I could just.. eat ya all up~! Or... marry your dumb ass.. OR OR.. uh. Uh.” They rambled on, mostly to themselves. Kirk blushed, not very much caught between feeling reassured and terrified. “I- I suppose that- well, I wouldn’t be adverse to that. Not- not the eating, the uh- the other one” he muttered, an absolute flustered mess. “You’re cute when you blush~!” They purred, leaning up to give him a little biting kiss on the cheek. Kirk’s blush darkened at that. “I- I’m not cute...” he mumbled, looking away. Zebra turned his head to face them, eyes narrowing slightly. “Cutie.” They repeated, tone still light. Kirk laughed nervously, looking anywhere but their eyes. “I’m... really, I’m not” he said quietly. “We think you are~!” They insisted, holding his face still, nails catching on his skin. “I could just.. love you to death you’re so sweet it’s criminal~!” Kirk grew more nervous at that. “Well, I- you really are too kind, though really- there’s plenty of people that are far cuter than I am...” he said with a very weak smile. Zebra frowned slightly for the first time since getting merged. “Jeksy.. you’re our boyfriend, baby. Don’t be so hard on yourself. Ya really are fuckin’ beautiful.”Kirk sighed. “I’m sorry dear, I know... I appreciate the compliments” he said quietly, pressing a light kiss on their cheek. “You seem.. less happy than usual. What’s wrong~? *Tell us!*” They asked quickly, tone slipping back to being sugary sweet and high pitched.
Kirk shook his head. “Nothing is wrong, don’t worry honey” he said softly, running a hand through their hair. Zebra, who was now distinctly leaning towards acting more like Flamingo, pouted. “If you’re suuuurre, sugar~!” Kirk nodded. “Yes- yes of course I’m sure” he said, trying to shake off the nervousness. They casually put their hands on both sides of Kirk’s neck, kissing him gently on the tip of his nose. “I looove you~!!” Zebra said enthusiastically. Kirk leaned up to kiss at the corner of their mouth. “I love you too, dear” Zebra quite abruptly, kissed Kirk harshly digging their claws into his neck somewhat. “We’d spend like, the rest of your life with you~!” Kirk winced but kissed them back. “And- and I you, honey” They looked Kirk dead in the eyes. “Good.” Was all they said, grinning all the while. Kirk smiled weakly at that. “Yes- yes of course honey, you know that” They looked like they were silently questioning something for a moment, before dropping their hands to Kirk’s waist once more. “Jeksy, you really mean the world to us.” They said, the growl returning. Kirk nodded. “You mean the world to me too, dearest” he said quietly, cupping their cheek. “We’re.. sorry, if we hurt you at all.” Zebra said gently, almost apologetically. Kirk smiled at them. “You don’t need to be sorry, dear. I love you, you know that” he said softly. They backed away slightly. “Kinda.. heheh, wanna bite you again~!” Zebra said with a slightly distressed giggle.
Kirk blushed at that. “You- I mean, if you’d like to, you’re welcome...” he said with an embarrassed smile. Zebra gently picked up one of Kirk’s hands, before biting down on it. Not going for the neck or face again. Kirk’s eyes widened in surprise, but he didn’t say anything. Zebra looked positively delighted for a moment before hastily going back to kissing Kirk. That was gonna hurt. Kirk kissed them back eagerly, not really expecting anything abnormal to happen. Zebra bit down on Kirk’s lips. Hard enough to draw blood, and a fair bit at that. Tight hug. Kirk gasped and immediately tried to pull away, shoving at Zebra’s chest. Zebra pouted, looking somewhat offended yet they backed away. “Hrm~?” They asked. Kirk gently touched his own lip, wincing as he pulled away and saw blood. “You- what-“ he couldn’t form any complete sentences, trying to scramble off the couch and looking absolutely terrified. Zebra just smiled before the realisation kicked in with a whispered, “Oh shit.” They quickly passed Kirk a tissue for the blood. “Fuckfuckfuck, didn’t mean to bite that hard, Jeksy. ‘M sorry, you’re okay right?” Kirk grabbed the tissue before backing away, holding it to his lip. “You- you just-“ “We’re so sorry, darling.” Zebra whispered, looking concerned. “Can.. we do anything to help?” Kirk shook his head, shaking slightly. “No- no you just- just go to bed or- or just go-“ he stammered. They nodded, quickly hugging Kirk and then doing as told. They headed up to Kirk’s bed, hiding in the covers. Kirk held the tissue to his lip, trying to steady his breathing and blink back tears. He debated whether it would be safer to sleep in his own bed or the couch
. Kirk’s bed was now self hatred central. A very small part of Zebra was proud of what they had done but mostly they were ashamed and very worried that they had hurt the person they cared about most. So they just hid, in silence. Waiting. Kirk sighed and went upstairs to his bed, slowly opening the door as quietly as possible as he crawled into the bed, staying as close to the edge as possible. Zebra shuffled a little closer, gently taking Kirk’s hand but not speaking. Throwing some of the blanket over their boyfriend.Kirk tensed slightly, but shifted over until he was cuddled up to Zebra. He didn’t say anything, still shaking slightly. Zebra continued to not speak, but hummed softly under their breath, cuddling up to Kirk as gently as they possibly could. Making sure he was nice and toasty. Kirk rested his head on their chest, sighing quietly. “...why?” Was all he asked, in a voice that made it obvious he had been crying. Zebra gently stroked Kirk’s hair, continuing the humming. They opened their mouth to speak before closing it, unable to speak. They just tried to show as much sympathy as they could through body language. Kirk frowned, tensing up once more. They breathed in deeply, before saying softly. “Non volevo. Istinto.” Kirk glanced up at them. “I... don’t understand” he whispered. Zebra struggled for the words for a moment. “Didn’t.. want.. to hurt you. Had to.. bite. ‘M sorry, Jeksy.” They managed eventually, voice cracking. Kirk sighed again. “I... I want to believe that. But-“ he cut off, tears starting to fall again.
Zebra reached out slowly, wiping away the tears with their sleeves. “We.. know. Hug?” Kirk hesitated before nodding. “Please?” Zebra hugged him closely, their tone of voice quickly going to Harvey’s usual one. “We’ve got you... we love you.” Kirk nodded again, suddenly feeling much safer. “I know. I love you too...” he whispered. Zebra didn’t let go, taking back a little blanket and trying to calm both of theirs and Kirk’s breathing with soft pats. “Shh... it’s okay..” Kirk cuddled closer, clinging to them with a death grip. “I love you- I love you I’m sorry I-“ he kept repeating himself. “Hey, hey now baby.. it’s okay sweetheart. You don’t have to apologise.” Zebra assured him, gently kissing Kirk’s forehead. “You’re safe.” Kirk nodded. “I’m safe- I’m safe here with you” he whispered. They gave him another kiss, before whispering. “Maybe get some sleep?” They suggested, letting Kirk keep laying on them. Kirk nodded, getting comfortable before drifting into an uneasy sleep. Zebra kept holding on, never moving the whole time Kirk slept.
