August 1st Today is the first day of August. Sniff. July is over. I got up this morning at 6:30. I don’t know why. The dew was very thick and beautiful. All white. Now, however, the sun is out. The sky is blue. And it is going to be a beautiful day. [...]
August 1st Yesterday was not the first day of August. Today is. A free day. Bill and I tried to collaborate this morning but it didn’t work out. [...]
Aug. 3rd Actually I am not sure if today is the 3rd or not. It might be the 4th or the 5th. It really doesn’t matter. [...]

1. The poem present only in a letter Dickinson had sent to Higginson in August 1877, that Popova imagines to have been possibly written having witnessed the eclipse on September 29, 1875:
It sounded as if the streets were running— /And then—the streets stood still—/ Eclipse was all we could see at the Window/ And Awe—was all we could feel. / By and by—the boldest stole out of his Covert/ To see if Time was there/ Nature was in her Opal Apron—/ Mixing fresher Air.
2. Asaph Hall was about to give up his frustrating search for a Martian moon one August night in 1877, but his wife Angelina urged him on. He discovered Deimos (pic 1 below) the next night, and Phobos (pic 2 below) six nights after that. (x)

Some of my memories are resurfacing. It's beyond inconvenient honestly. Breathing on a good day is a struggle at best without the trauma chasing me around on a regular basis and the last thing I want is to drown in the pain and despair. Oddly enough, there are times when I am grateful that those traumatizing events are still a part of my memory, after all, moments such as those are what shaped who I am today.
I'd like to thank the people from my past that played a role in my misery. You'll probably never see this diary of mine and if you do, I don't care. Shout out to my ex-boyfriend who played such a major role that, even now, I have nightmares of the last six months of our three-year relationship! Thank you for the beatings and the mental scars and for showing me what "true love" really meant to you. Believe me when I say that if it weren't for you, this diary and my psych evals would never have happened. Let's all raise a glass to beautifully tragic firsts, all the mistakes we made, and the regrets we desperately yearn to reverse.

25/aug/22. It’s 7:55 pm. TIME TO WRITE!!! I'm finally going to start my next one-shot. The couple of the time is Shouji Mezo X Tokoyami Fumikage (my beloved Shoutoko)! And despite that, I'm so tired of work that I hardly want to write. Help.

i just hope that no matter how many times this world tries to harden me and turn me into a cold person, i hope i remain soft. may i still be compassionate. may i still be full of love. may i still be soft and sees hope in everything. and to never become something that once broke me.

It has been, on the whole, a fresh well ordered summer. I am not so parched with talk as usual. [...] I enjoyed the Eclipse; I enjoyed Long Barn (where I went twice); I enjoyed sitting with Vita at Kew for three or four hours under a cloudy sky, and dining with her: she refreshes me, and solaces me.

What's something that's bothering you here and now?
Hardship. It's such a pain to go through life battling tough situations and making the hard decisions ALL THE TIME... There's always a bright side but I'm not interested in looking at the silver lining right now. When your world seems to be crumbling around you one landmark at a time and you're trying your best to keep it together, it's a horrible way to live! I always look for the silver lining but the lack of anything for me to hold onto at the moment has kept me awake for four hours and it's ANNOYING. I'm not talking about myself, I'm thinking about someone else who has given so much and received so little in return. So what's bothering you today/tonight?

does anyone else find people working -- poring over texts, focused, eyes locked, brains turning, passionate, dedicated -- incredibly attractive?

Please let me know that I am not the only one who has read [& continues to do so] fanfictions about the characters whom I know nothing about; I haven't seen the movie/series or read the books about them but I am crushing hard on them because one of their fanfictions landed on my "for you" page...
