“So what’s it like living with a Hale?” Stiles asked, turning away from your locker after you shut it. Both of you fell into step with Scott as you made your way to your next class.
You must have grimaced or made some face with a slight slant of your eyebrows only a Stilinski could read, because Stiles let out a snort. “That bad?”
You shrugged, sighing. “I mean, it’s not like I expected it to be a walk in the park, it is Derek Hale after all.” Scott chuckled with a gentle shake of his head, making you smile before you continued. “But I didn’t expect it to be this…. easy….. either.”
“Easy?” Scott questioned, making the same face you must have initially as Stiles let out another snort of laughter.
“Yeah, I mean, the first few days were awkward. If we weren’t training we weren’t doing anything. The man is silent, had no TV, or any of that-”
“Wait, ‘had’?” Stiles held out his hand, effectively cutting off your sentence and your steps, your shoes screeching on the floor at the sudden stop.
“Yes, had. He now has a TV, streaming services- yes, Stiles, services as in plural, if you keep your eyebrows that high they may stick that way, and it’s not the best look for you…”
“So at least there is something to fill the silence at least.” Scott resumed walking, you followed a few steps behind, Stiles lagging, jaw still dropped in shock.
“Well, yeah,” you agreed with Scott, and this time you felt your eyebrows making the face.
“But….?” Scott’s prodding was gentle, but his face held a smirk.
“But somewhere along the way we went from off handed comments during a news broadcast, or some show we were watching, to actually pausing it to have some discussion, or referencing some situation later and asking if the other had had something similar happen, or just opening up about random experiences and stuff. It’s…”
“Weird?” This time Stiles prodded, earning a glare and gentle whack on the arm from Scott.
“Well, maybe it’s because you’re…. new.” Scott opted for a more discrete word for ‘werewolf’ in the crowded hallways. “He may feel like opening up more because of the pack mentality and all.”
“No, it’s not because she’s…. new.” Stiles raised one eyebrow on the word as he addressed Scott, earning a sigh and eye roll from the young Beta. “The man is a brooding wall of leather and growls.” You chuckled at the description, making Stiles grin. “I think we finally found our miracle cure for our Sourwolf!”
“Woah, woah, woah, hold up.” You held up your hands as if to physically stop their words. “What?”
“Oh, come on, Y/N. We know you two like each other. It’s so obvious.” Stiles immediately closed his mouth, his lips a tight line, eyes wide and eyebrows in his hairline in his signature “I was not supposed to say that” face.
“What?” you deadpanned to your friend.
The bell rang, and Scott, wide eyed and smiling too broadly, gave Stiles a shove on the shoulder in the opposite direction of your next class as Stiles muttered, “Oh, look. The bell.” They both began to walk quickly the opposite way.
“Guys!” you yelled. “This is not over! But I am not responsible for you guys missing another class, what does that make, like fifteen already this semester?”
Your two friends stilled and turned on their heels, ushering past you quickly, avoiding your glare, Stiles looking at Scott and muttering, “See, Scott? I told you our class with Miss Blake was this way.”
“Ugh,” you mumbled under your breath. The sour expression stayed on your face even after you sat at your desk in the back of the class.
Chuckling, Stiles chanced a glance your way from beside you, hoping to change the subject from his ultimate fail in the hallway. “You still don’t like her?”
“I still don’t like her.” You overlapped his last few words, matching his gentle nod with one of your own as you stared straight ahead at the teacher’s still vacant desk.
“What is it about her you don’t like?”
“I just have a really bad feeling whenever I see her. Something just isn’t right.”
Scott chuckled, opening his book to the proper page. “You’re just mad that she gives you a little bit of a harder time.”
“You mean she gives me ‘more attention’?” you asked, your words rising to a ridiculous octave as they repeated Jennifer’s words she had used when she assigned you some extra credit to help raise your grade so you could stay on the lacrosse team. Your friends chuckled at your words. “I’m sorry, not everyone can be amazing at everything, being a wer-” you stopped yourself, clearing your throat before continuing- “new-” you looked at Scott pointedly, earning you a glare and Stiles’ laughter on your other side- “doesn’t allow for a whole lot of extra studying time.”
“Oh, come on, Y/N. I know you feel that way now, but it will pass,” Scott said with a smile as Miss Blake walked in, setting things on her desk, and he chuckled as you glared at her. “This is all ephemeral.”
You looked at Stiles, your face blank, voice a deadpan. “You ever buy him a word of the day subscription thing again, and I will rip your throat out.” You flickered your yellow eyes at him discreetly. “With my teeth.”
“With your teeth,” Stiles mumbled, overlapping your words, both of you nodding in agreement again. “I asked what it’s like living with a Hale, and now I got my answer.” He looked at you, shaking his head mockingly. “You’re becoming one of them. It’s contagious. We’ll call it ‘Sourwolf Syndrome’.”

Due to your parents’ professions taking them all over the place constantly, like Allison, you were actually a year older than your friends, having to repeat a year a few grades back. But you wouldn’t change it for anything, because that’s how you met your best friends.
It helped that your parents were away on business most of the time, so no one questioned your staying at Derek’s loft for so long. You stopped by every few days to get the mail and check on the plants around the house, packing some new clothes if needed, Derek sitting outside in his car the first few times, but lately he had taken to coming in and helping you do the few things you had to do.
You told yourself it was just because of the increased threat that he wanted to be closer to his newest Beta. He didn’t have too many of those these days, you thought bitterly, smirking to yourself. You stared blankly as you rinsed out your coffee cup in the sink, and a wave of sadness washed over you as you thought of Erica, her absence still fresh and raw. The two of you had never really been close; just acquaintances at school, then pack members briefly, before she was gone.
Boyd had really withdrawn himself after that, and you didn’t blame him. You knew he probably felt how you did times ten. When Cora had been here briefly she mentioned losing a pack member was like losing a limb, and she hadn’t been wrong.
Then Derek had kicked both Cora and Isaac out of the loft, claiming it wasn’t safe with the Alpha Pack around. Isaac was staying with Scott, but you didn’t know where Cora had disappeared to. Peter was a wild card, so you didn’t even try to factor him in, and Scott outright refused to be a member of Derek’s pack. He was an Alpha with Beta eyes, and an enigma for another time.
The point was, Derek was running low in the Beta department lately.
The only reason Derek had you staying at the loft and followed you around the house when you had to go was because you were the newest, or so he said. Deep down you knew he just didn’t want to be responsible if something happened to you. He wanted to control the situation as much as possible which, you guessed, you were kind of glad, being new to this whole werewolf thing, and admittedly not wanting to stay home alone again, human or werewolf.
At least at the loft, even in the times before Derek brought home the TV and stuff, the silence had been comfortable. You’d never admit it to anyone, but just being in the presence of another living, breathing being, even one as brooding and somewhat annoying as Derek Hale, was nice.
And you sure as hell weren’t going to think about how he had helped you with your homework sometimes, especially with that English extra credit. He had a side he didn’t share often, and you were glad you got to see it. It was like a rare spotting of a mythological creature.
You smiled to yourself, watching the water in the cup filling clear now, the mug long clean, and you let your feelings wash away down the drain with the water as you turned it off.
Setting the mug in the sink, you took a deep breath, letting the feelings whirling around you fully roll off your back, rolling your shoulders back as they did.
Stepping into the doorway to the living room you saw him delicately watering some houseplant your mom babied. The first few times he had just poured water at its base, and you had to stop him, showing him how it had to be done, otherwise he’d over water it. And since then, though he had said initially that it was stupid under his breath, he took meticulous care to check if it even needed watering, and then watered it properly, like you showed him, even bringing books home to the loft about how to care for the various types of plants your mom had around the house. You found it endearing.
Smiling softly, you gently shook your head. One second you were bitter towards him, the next finding little things that made him amazing. “I’m going to go grab some clothes, my stuff got torn to hell last week when we dealt with what’s his face,” you said offhandedly, starting up the stairs. So many baddies came through this town, you got them all confused.
Derek chuckled. “Okay. You know you can always borrow some of my clothes if you need to.”
You stopped midstep on the staircase, each foot on a different step, and your grip on the bannister tightened, your knuckles turning white.
This.
This is why you had such conflicting emotions about this man. Wolf. Wolfman.
“Are you sure?” You kept your voice even, smiling softly.
He shrugged. “Yeah, I mean, makes more sense then driving all the way over here.” His voice tried to be neutral, but it was evident he was trying to cover up something he had let slip before really thinking about it.
“Thanks. I’ll remember that next time.” You nodded once to each other before you took two steps calmly and then practically ran up the rest of them to your room.
Holding a hand to your chest, taking deep breaths to try and stabilize your heartbeat, you slumped against the door after you closed it, sighing.
You tried not to over analyze what he said, but failed.
You knew he probably was making some underhanded comment about your abilities, “coming all the way over here”, really he wanted to say, “you suck at being a werewolf, you’re always getting hurt and your clothes destroyed in the process”.
“You too, wolfman. You too,” you mumbled under your breath as you angrily rifled through one of your drawers, grabbing a few things.
You chuckled a dark laugh. “But I’m an Alpha, Y/N. I’ll heal faster.” You mocked his deep tone, your search in your drawer turning into an aimless activity, the contents totally mixed up now.
He had never been around whenever you had gotten in a hit or takedown on the baddies you guys had encountered so far in your short time in this world. For some reasons you ended up on opposite sides of the battle fields, and he never said it directly, but you knew he probably thought you sucked. How else does one end up with torn shirts from claw marks and blood being covered by your jacket?
Everyone else had called you a badass, but Derek had yet to compliment or even comment on your fighting ability. But maybe, since he trained you, that spoke more to his ability and not yours, you thought with a smirk. Satisfied with the thought, you grabbed a few clothes out of the drawer before snapping it shut.
After a few steps toward the door, you slowed to a stop, absently staring at the clothes in your hand as your thoughts cleared a little from your earlier anger.
If it was a reflection on how he thought he was, that was kind of sad. Did he really think so lowly of himself and his abilities?
You had only been in this world a short time now, but even you had to admit he was a good Alpha. A good wolfm- werewolf. A good man. He was a great person to have at your back in a fight and in mundane things like math, which was also a fight, but that was a thought for another day. He was a good friend to have, period.
Shaking your head and chuckling gently at yourself, you wondered why your thoughts were everywhere. Glancing at your calendar on the wall, you saw the full moon was coming up soon and rolled your eyes. Of course.
This would pass. This was ephemeral. You groaned softly as you made your way back down the stairs. Stiles was going to pay.
Derek met your eyes when you made it to the last step, hopping the last few inches to the first floor. He set down the watering can softly.
“Do I really sound like that?” His lips twitched upward slightly.
Screwing up your face in confusion it took you a second to realize he had heard your mutterings as you disorganized the contents of your drawer upstairs. Realization crossed your face before your palm slapped to your forehead, the groan passing your lips before you could stop it.
Derek laughed, and you looked at him apologetically, to which he motioned with his hand as if waving it away and smiled at the floor where his gaze was focused. “Don’t worry about it. I just always thought my voice was deeper than that.”
He chuckled even more as you swatted his arm, laughing gently yourself. He grabbed your wrist playfully before you could withdraw your hand, and you found yourself pulled closer to him, almost toe to toe and having to crane your neck to look up and meet his eyes that looked down at you with some emotion you couldn’t decipher.
That comfortable silence hung around you two like a blanket… Until his phone rang.
As he fished it out of his pocket, you softly cleared your throat and took a small step back, feeling Derek’s gaze on you the whole time.
“Hello?” His voice was gruff and annoyed, and he was still staring at you. It almost seemed like he was upset at whoever was on the other end for interrupting his moment with you.
But that thought quickly evaporated.
“Jennifer!” He said it with a broad smile on his face, his voice a total about face from his greeting, and his eyes moving from you to the wall behind you.
It couldn’t be who you thought. There was no way. That would be too much of a coincidence.
“No, I’m not busy,” he said, turning to the door.
Grabbing his arm to stop him, he turned to look at you, eyebrows raised in question and, if you weren’t mistaken, slight annoyance.
“What?” he mouthed.
“Who is that?” you whispered.
“A friend,” he hissed.
“Who is it?” you hissed back at him.
“Your English teacher, Jennifer Blake.” He shrugged out of your grip and out your front door, motioning you to the car.
You seethed as you turned off the lights, grabbing your bag of clothes, and locking the door after you.
Reason number five hundred and sixty two to hate Miss Jennifer Blake.

“Come on, I’m not asking for much.” Jeff pleads as Natalie remains silent, scrolling through her phone. “Please, Nat.”
Glancing up from her phone, Natalie can’t ignore the puppy dog look Jeff is presenting. A heavy sigh leaves her lips as she lowers her phone. “You better have a good gift in mind, I’m not sacrificing my secret Santa just for you to fuck up.” Natalie states.
Smiling brightly, Jeff launches onto Natalie as he hugs her tightly. “Thanks, Natalie. I’ve got the perfect thing in mind.”
“I’ve got conditions to it though.” Natalie muffles through Jeff’s arms as he leans back, allowing Natalie to breathe. “You have to get her this,” Holding her phone up, Natalie watches as Jeff’s brows furrow together. “and, tell her how you feel. As I know I’m not the only one who can’t stand you tiptoeing around her anymore.”
“She’s got a point.” David chimes in as he wanders into the living room as Ilya files behind him, nodding in agreement.
“Oh come on, guys. It’s not that bad.” Jeff shrugs his shoulder, but the looks exchanged between his friends says otherwise.
“Dude, Scott was filming the other day and recorded you looking at Y/n in awe as she worked out.” Ilya comments and Jeff knows there isn’t any point denying it, he just can’t help himself when you’re around.
“She’s got a good body and strength.” Jeff comments confidently. “Besides, Y/n doesn’t see me that way, she has said plenty of times how much I mean to her as a friend.” Jeff reminds the others as his heart sinks back in his chest, remembering just last week when he went over to yours.
“What was so urgent?” Jeff asks with wide eyes as he pants lightly whilst you stand in your doorway, wearing your pyjamas as you rub your tired eyes.
“Oh, sorry,” You laugh innocently. “I didn’t mean to scare you, Jeff. I just, I needed help making Christmas cookies.”
Resting his hand against your door frame, Jeff exhales deeply. “You texted me, stating you had an emergency at 10pm, just to make Christmas cookies?”
Nodding in response, you hold your door open further. “So is that a yes you’ll help?” Your smile starts to grow as Jeff steps into your apartment, rolling the sleeves of his hoodie up.
“Where do you wanna start?” He asks, admitting defeat as you happily clap behind him, a spring in your step as you follow him into your kitchen.
“Thank you, thank you, Jeff! You’re the best, my Mom will adore these knowing they’re from her favourite of my friends.” You comment, missing the way Jeff’s smile drops for a second before standing beside him in the kitchen as you gather the ingredients, prepping your kitchen knowing the mess that is about to follow.
“I wouldn’t be so sure about that,” Taylor sings as all eyes turn to her. “I’m just saying.” Taylor holds her hands up as Ella nods in agreement.
“It’s not too late to back down from being her secret Santa, Jeff.” Natalie nudges him, but Jeff shakes his head.
“I’m not backing down and like I said, I’ve got the perfect gift.”
*
“So we’re actually organised this time?” You ask, looking around at everyone sat in David’s living room whilst David sits beside one of the many Christmas trees in his house.
Across the room, Jeff tries to remain composed as Natalie sends him a reassuring smile, knowing two of those gifts under the tree have your name on it and a confession to follow.
“For the first time, it seems so.” David chuckles as he rubs his hands together, scanning over the various presents underneath the tree. “So, how do you guys wanna do this?”
Scott rises to his feet, adorning his Santa hat as he remains dressed as Mrs Claus from recording his music video earlier today. “I’ll hand them out.” He suggests and everyone agrees.
Jeff watches as Scott hands out presents to everyone, the joy radiating in the room as Christmas songs play faintly in the background.
“And this one is for Y/n.” Scott walks over to you, handing you the soft present wrapped neatly with a ribbon and perfectly tied bow on top.
“Wow, who paid for gift wrap?” You chuckle, looking around at everyone as they remain silent, no one admitting who their secret Santa was just yet.
Watching in earnest, Jeff is distracted as he’s handed his present, quickly catching your smile as you look away from him.
“Okay, go ahead and unwrap your gifts.” David states as the sound of paper tearing fills the room and excited responses follow suit.
Yet, Jeff puts his gift to one side as he focuses on you unwrapping yours.
Ripping the paper off, you pause as you look at the gift on your lap. “What’d you get, Y/n?” Natalie asks you, a bright smile on her lips as you remain quiet.
Feeling his heart rest in his throat, Jeff takes a deep breath as you lift the hoodie out from the paper. “I, this is just,” Struggling to form words, you look around at everyone before your eyes land on Jeff. You silently mouth a thank you as tears fill your eyes.
No words are exchanged between you both as everyone continues to film for their channels and social media, slowly filing out of the room until it’s just you and Jeff sat in silence.
“I thought you might like it.” Jeff speaks up as he rests his arms on his thighs, trying to suppress his leg from shaking as you hold the hoodie in your hands, your fingers running across the fabric.
Lifting your head up, Jeff’s heart melts as tears fall from your eyes. “You did this, for me?” Your voice remains soft as Jeff nods. “But why?” Curiosity encroaches in your tone as you wipe your eyes, Jeff taking the chance to sit down beside you.
“Well, I remember that time your Mom came to visit you.” Jeff starts, remembering the day clearly despite it being months ago.
“Oh honey, I brought you something!” Your Mom exclaims as she reaches into her bag whilst Jeff busies himself in your kitchen, having come over to help you film as he knew your Mom was visiting.
“Mom, I told you I don’t need anything.” You roll your eyes playfully, just as Jeff walks into the room with three mugs.
“Thank you, dear, you’re a true gentleman.” Your Mom gushes to Jeff as he chuckles, shaking his head before sitting down in your armchair. “It’s in here somewhere,” Your Mom mutters under her breath before grabbing something and lifting it out.
“Mom, why did you bring that?” You ask, trying to conceal the fact you were beginning to get hot from embarrassment whilst Jeff watched curiously.
Holding your old teddy up, your Mom raises an eyebrow to you. “Honey, you loved this teddy, you brought it everywhere! Honestly, Jeff, she could never sleep without it!” A laugh is shared between Jeff and your Mom whilst you internally groan.
“I’m an adult Mom, I don’t need my teddy bear.” You sigh, but the sight of the ratty teddy bear does warm your heart. “But, since you brought it all this way, I guess I’ll keep it.” You reach out, taking the teddy in your hands as you keep it on your lap, the sight something Jeff hopes he’ll never forget.
“But, how?” A laugh escapes your lips as you run your index finger across the embroidery sitting on the left breast of the hoodie, an exact replica of your teddy bear down to the bowtie around its neck.
Jeff shrugs a shoulder in response. “I have connections.” He states. “And since you always steal my hoodies, I thought I’d give you one to keep and make it personal to you.” He adds, watching as you slip it on.
The sleeves hang over your hands, it clearly doesn’t fit but your smile grows. You loved Jeff’s hoodies as they felt like a warm hug from him, enveloped in his aftershave even if he wasn’t there with you.
“I just, this is the most thoughtful present anyone has ever gotten me, Jeff.” You admit as Jeff rests his hand on your cheek, wiping away the stray tears that fall as you sniff quietly.
“There’s erm, something else I got for you too.” Jeff mutters as you focus on his eyes as your hand rests on his thigh, the distance between you both minimising.
“Okay?” You chuckle under your breath.
“You have to close your eyes first if that’s alright with you.” Jeff asks as you nod, complying as you close your eyes.
Taking a steady breath, Jeff closes his eyes and leans in until his lips are on yours. It takes a moment for you to respond, and once you do, the kiss deepens as you lift your arms up, wrapping them around his neck as you lean back on the sofa, Jeff leaning over you.
Pulling away, you rest your forehead against Jeffs. “Was that the present or something you just felt like doing?” You question, rubbing your lips together as Jeff smirks.
“A bit of both.” He admits. “But I like you, Y/n, a lot. And if you’ll let me, I’d love to take you out sometime.”
“I thought you’d never ask, Jeff.” You breathe out, kissing Jeff softly as the sound of applause interrupts your moment.
Breaking apart, you look up to see all your friends stood with their phones and cameras.
"It's a Christmas miracle!” Natalie yells as Todd stands behind her, his arms around her waist. “There’s still one more present, and now I think you might actually have a use for it.” She motions to the small gift on the sofa, and Jeff reaches over for it.
Passing it to you, you unwrap it and bury your face in the sleeves of Jeff’s hoodie.
“Stay safe you guys.” David laughs whilst Natalie winks to you.
“I’m sure we’ll put them to good use.” Jeff mutters into your ear as you look up to him, quirking a brow before kissing him once more.
“Just you wait, Wittek.” You giggle. “Just you wait.”

She was his best friend and they shared everything together already anyway. What difference would it make if it were a hat, shampoo, or the same bed sometimes? So what? That's what the Uni Daze were about, having fun, traditions, getting serious, new relationships, friendships, heart ache, break-ups, make ups, secrets, the occasional/casual bajingo here and there, and possibly, just maybe, finding the love of your life and hoping that it all works out.
Warnings: smut, slow burn, angst, mentions of abortion, mentions of verbal abuse

Chapter 2 ( Word Count 6.7K )
Harry
My school day was absolutely long but it kept me busy and busy to me is a good thing. It keeps me balanced though I know Chelle would disagree since he keeps telling me as such over the phone.
"The only reason you think that trying to fit 72 hours in a 24 hour day is a balance is because of your parents. Just because they're work driven arseholes doesn't mean that you have to follow in their footsteps.”
"That's impossible to do, I don't work that much. My parent's aren't arsehole's they're just successful. Is that so wrong to want success?”
"It is when its your last year of uni and you're being a kill joy.”
"I said I would go out for drinks, Chelle. How is my compliance to something that I don't want to do being a kill joy?”
"Because you're not doing it with a smile. You've become boring. Your sex life and your regular life has turned about as vanilla as a middle aged man. We never had to beg you to come out last year or over the summer, Harrow. Think of it as a week of extended holidays. No one does anything the first week of classes anyway. It's all rules and instructions on how to prepare. We've been in uni for three years. We should know the jist of it by now.”
"But it's not summer anymore, Chelle and you know some professors like to give assignments in the first few days. We have two papers already in seminar for fucks sake.”
Michelle sighed in annoyance.
"Yeah, but, those aren't due for ages, Haz. Fun is due right now.”
"This is the year to pull your shit together. Everyone can't not study and get perfect marks like you. Sorry.”
"The phrase 'can't not' is a double edged sword.”
"What?" I spun around in my desk at work, handing a first year her keys. Its only the first day and she's already lost her keys and has to use her spare for a fifty pound charge. She looks nervous as well and her face is kind of red. She grins at me and says a shy 'thank you' before walking away, staring back at me and kind of tripping over her own feet on her way to the lift. I tried not to laugh, but honestly it was kind of funny.
"You know, a double edged sword? A double negative? You can't say 'can't not' next to each other in a sentence. It's repetitive of itself. You should be embarrassed. This is primary school stuff Harrow. Mr. “I have to take the UKCAT this year.”"
"Whatever Chelle! See? That's what I mean. I need a balance. I need to be able to be involved in school. I should have taken it more serious when we first started out.”
"You do realize balance means a good amount of your job, school work, AND a social life which includes parties and pubs and going out with your mates without a grumble?”
"I'm going out for drinks tonight! You're starting to piss me off."
"If the truth is anything it's annoying, Harry." I nodded my head and began to swivel around in my chair. I'd just gotten to work and had three and a half more hours to go. I'm glad I have a job and all but this one is fucking boring.
Speaking of truth.
"Do the boys know about your um...your new team?”
"No. Actually they don’t."
Oh.
“Oh?"
"Yeah, um, I was hoping that it was something that we could keep between me and you for now. Just until I can figure things out. I'd love to say that I'm for sure just this one thing. I know I said it this morning, but I'm still not sure, okay?”
"Yeah. Sure, of course." I stopped spinning in my seat and dizzying myself when I heard my manager's voice,"Look I've gotta go. I'm not supposed to be on the phone and my boss is coming.”
"Oh so there is some rebellion left in you? You're living on the edge now, Hazland. Why can't you use your phone? All you do is sit in a chair and answer phones and make people keys when they lock themselves out of their dorm.”
"Bye Michelle!" I quickly hung up the phone and stuck it into my pocket smiling awkwardly at Professor Forrester as he approached the front desk with someone else right next to him. She had on a Cambridge work shirt much like myself letting me know that I more than likely wouldn't be alone for the rest of my shift.
"Rion, this is Harry," Professor Forrester spoke to her before addressing me, "today is her first day here at the university and working. I told her that she would be in good hands if I left her here with you. Show her the ropes and maybe show her around campus when you're not at work? I've got to go," Professor Forrester turned to face the new girl before he nodded back at me, "any questions you have, ask him. He'll know all of the answers.”
She nodded her head up and down slowly before giving a shy grin and we were left alone as Forrester left the building.
“Hi."
“Hello."
"I'm Harry.”
She laughed to herself before nodding her head at me.
"So I was told. Nice to meet you.”
Rion, I think her name was, sat down in her seat next to mine after speaking back to me, lowering her rucksack down to the ground before pulling out a book. It was a good idea really. Maybe I should have brought one? I barely get the chance to read, especially living with Michelle. She always finds a way to interrupt, either that or my ADD kicks in, all the more reason for me to put in more effort at school. I took out my phone once I knew that Forrester was gone, but I really had nothing to do with it. I had no new text messages besides Michelle.
Chelle: Drinksssssss 🍻🍺🍺🍺🍻🍻🍻😉
I grinned before shaking my head and replying back to her, something just as stupid as she sent me.
To Chelle: Tortureeeeeeee😣🔫🍺😒
Chelle: Dramatic!
Ignoring her last text, I took out my earphones and turned up the music on my phone as I placed them in my ears. I suppose it was a bit loud because out of the corner of my eye I could see Rion scrunching her nose while she tried to read.
"Oh, sorry. I didn't mean to disturb you.”
"No disturbance, I was just trying to figure the tune. Runaway?”
“Wh-what?"
She laughed before she pointed to the phone in my hand and repeated herself.
"Is that Runaway by Ed Sheeran?”
I nodded my head, not able to stop the stupid grin that cut across my face.
"You know Ed Sheeran that’s not on top 40?”
"Who doesn't? The man's a musical genius.”
She smiled at me before she turned back to her book, but I couldn't help but to keep talking to her.
"What school did you used to go to? Um, if you don't mind me asking…"
"Nope, don't mind at all. I used to go to Bristol Uni. How about yourself? Have you been at Cambridge all of your university career?”
I nodded my head and she looked impressed, but I'm sure she wouldn't be if she knew that I was a legacy and that I slacked off for the first three and a half years. Good thing that I'm getting my shit together now.
"Yeah, it’s alright here.”
"Just alright?”
"One of the best alrights I guess. Welcome to Cambridge and congratulations.”
"Thank you.”
I smiled at her and the conversation was on the verge of ending, but before I stuck my other ear bud in I paid closer attention to the book that she had in her hand.
"Scott Fitzgerald."
"Pardon?" Rion raised an eyebrow at me.
"That's F. Scott Fitzgerald.”
She raised her book showing me the spine, shocked that I hadn't seen the cover but still got the author right.
"You know F. Scott Fitzgerald?" She smiled at me while relaying my words back to me.
"Who doesn't? The man was a written genius. Not to mention that the book you're reading happens to be one of my favorites.”
She smiled again.
"Usually people only notice Fitzgerald if The Great Gatsby is involved." She turned her chair towards mine giving me a better view of her.
"Gatsby is a classic, but I think that The Curious Case of Benjamin Button has more character.”
We continued to talk and before I knew it the shift was over. No one else needed keys and the phone barely rung. I probably would have stayed beyond the time that I was supposed to get off talking and creating awkward conversation with Rion had it not been for Michelle's reminders:
Chelle: Tonight is gonna be fun 😊
Chelle: You're off work in 1⃣5⃣ min🎉🎊
Chelle: I'm gonna get you so fucked up!😝
Chelle: I'm excited 😬
To Chelle: No 💩. Too excited I reckon 😐
I laughed to myself as I gathered my things to leave the building, not fully believing that I allowed Michelle to talk me into drinking tonight, even though part of me knew that I wouldn't be able to break tradition. Rion put her book away, that she never really got into reading and followed behind me out the door and to the parking lot. She seemed cool from what I got to know about her in the amount of time that I did and since she's new, I figure that it wouldn't hurt to ask.
"Hey, a couple of my friends and I are getting together tonight to The Mill. Its a pub right up the road on Mill lane, if you're not busy, you should, um, you should come.”
"Mill pub? On a Monday?”
"Yeah, it's kind of a tradition that we started when we started here." I rub my shoulder as I wait for her answer. I don't know why I feel nervous about it but I do.
"It sounds like fun, but I shouldn’t, not tonight at least. I wouldn't be able to bear it if I missed class tomorrow because of a hangover, and I kind of also have plans.”
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make it like you didn't have anything else to do or-”
"No it's fine it's just... I have a date.”
"Right. Sorry again.”
"I'll see you around though I hope?”
"Yeah, I'll see you at work.”
Rion nodded her head while giving me a content smile before she got into her car and as she pulled off, she waved to me. I waved back but as soon as her car was out of sight, I slapped myself in the face with the palm of my hand. Maybe six months is too long to go without any type of real interaction with the opposite sex besides Michelle, but honestly she doesn't count...or maybe she counts for both now?
I cleared my head of my thoughts as I got into my car that I feel like I'm too tall for. Even with the seat pushed down as low as it can go, I still can feel the top of my head brush against the roofing of it. By now I'm sure I've saved up enough to get a new one. A new car could be my mini treat to myself for cutting myself off from a social life. The more that I think about the way that my conversation with Rion just ended the more that I start to agree with Michelle and the more excited I get for the night of boozy tradition.
As soon as eleven thirty-five hit, my phone rang. When I answered it Michelle's voice came through clear as if she were sitting here next to me in the car, even though background noise and music blares in the room around her.
"Everyone is here but you. Are you en route?”
"Everyone?" I ask her with skepticism in my tone. I would be shocked if everyone showed up.
"Yes everyone. Niall, Darragh, and Zayn. Everyone but you. Are you on your way?”
I don't know why I even asked her if everyone would be there. I knew that Louis wouldn't show even though it was him and Darragh who started this tradition..
"Yeah, I'm on my way. This should be fun.”
"That's the spirit I've been looking for Harrow. It sounds like you've had a change of heart since earlier.”
"Yeah, I think I've been looking at my textbooks too long and not at real people. One night won't kill me I suppose.”
"If one night is done right, then yes, yes it will. And what do you mean you don't see real people? I see you everyday.”
"You're not a real person, Michelle. I'm not quite sure what you are yet.”
"I think I might have an idea by now." Michelle said while chuckling on the other end of the line.
"And what would that be?”
"Getting lucky tonight. Get here soon and I can be your wing-lady.”
The pub was in the early stages of being crowded when I got there and I couldn't deny how excited I was to see the boys, Michelle included even though I saw her only just this morning. The last time that we were all together was in the middle of June, but after that we really hadn't had time to hang out. Everyone had gotten busy and into their own things. Besides keeping in touch over the phone occasionally, we haven't really talked that much either.
The first person that I saw when I got in was Niall. He sat next to Darragh with a cigarette hanging from his lips, patting down his jeans in search of a lighter no doubt. When we made eye contact, he stuck his arms out to the side with his fingers spread wide and a smile on his face. Darragh looked at him as if he lost his mind until he followed Niall's line of vision and then quickly stood from his seat.
"Harry! How are you lad? Drinks are on Liam so order the most expensive thing possible.”
I received two claps on the back from each of them when I reached the table and then a smack on my ass that made me jump and then turn around find the guilty culprit. I should have known who it was straight away.
"Chelle! That actually hurt.”
She laughed at my discomfort with some kind of frothy drink in her hand as I grabbed my bum cheek and rubbed it over my jeans.
"Probably because there's barely any meat there to cushion the blow.”
I shook my head at her and squinted my eyes before I responded, "It's not about what's back there, its all about what's in the front. Girls don't date me for my bum.”
“Well, according to you, girls don't date you at all, not recently at least.”
Niall and Darragh started to laugh and a stream of smoke came through Niall's nose reminding me of an angry bull from a cartoon before he took another drag from his cigarette, this time intentionally blowing a ring of smoke before sucking it back in through his nostrils. I probably could have strangled Michelle in that moment, but it was true. My mind goes back to Rion and work and I can feel my cheeks burn with embarrassment.
"Mitch told us about your six month drought.”
"Stop calling me Mitch!”
Niall ignored Michelle's outburst before continuing, "She says you haven't gotten laid since your birthday.”
"Do you know what a penis fly catcher even looks like anymore?" Darragh added to Niall's teasing causing my nose to scrunch.
"Penis fly catcher?”
"Yeah, it's better than what you call it. What do you say again? Bajango?”
"No Darragh," Niall cuts in, "Django was a movie. He says bajingo. It makes sense to me.”
Michelle scrunches her nose in disgust and confusion at our conversation but doesn't say anything. Really though, what more could be added to this?
"It's not that big of a deal guys." I bring the conversation back to where it was before it drifted into a dark place so quickly. It can't be that bad. Can it? Perhaps it is? I don't even know at this point anymore.
"Oi leave him alone," Zayn chimed in as he walked up to the table with Liam with two beers in hand, passing me one before he sat down, "its alright Harry sex isn't everything...but six months is a long ass time. But enough about that. What has everyone been up to?”
It was almost like a show and tell as we went around the table talking about what we'd missed out on over the summer since we hadn't seen each other. Niall and Darragh went to Ibiza for the month of July staying in hostels and partying until all hours of the morning. Apparently Niall is in love with a girl he met there, but he doesn't remember her name so I don't know how accurate that is
Zayn spent a good amount of time in France with his girlfriend, sorry, fiancé. The fucker got engaged in France. Everyone thought that he and Daphne were gonna be a short lived thing since they met at a club and all, but people find love and fall in it in mysterious ways I guess. Michelle would be a prime example of that...but love is not involved with her apparently. A player not to be played anymore. I still have questions to ask her about that but I guess I'll have to wait until later since she doesn't want the guys to know that she's traded outies for innies. I could out her like she did me and my drought, but that's way more personal and I've decided that I'm not that much of an asshole, if I'm one at all that is.
Liam was arrested and his parents flipped out. For what I'm kind of scared to ask, but I'm sure it was something accidental. Sometimes I wonder how Liam even got into Cambridge, but I guess that they don't test for common sense, only book smarts.
When it got to Michelle's turn, she just talked about how she flew back home for a few weeks at the very start of summer to visit family and then came back here, but of course that's not anything that I didn't already know. When she came back was when I noticed all of the girlfriends that she had. It was odd to me because Michelle generally hated girls and hanging out with them, but then again, she obviously doesn't hate them that much.
When I told them that the most exciting part of my summer had been joining a book club for some work that I had to get ready to do for senior class, studying for the UKCAT that's not until the end of the school year, and sometimes coming here to Mill pub with Michelle I realized that what she said was true. My life had become vanilla, but I'm honestly kind of alright with it.
We continued to talk, share, laugh and drink until it was at least half three in the morning. I was waiting to see if Michelle was going to change her mind and let the lads know about her newfound liking but she kept it private between me and her the way that she said she would and it kind of made me smile. That along with the ridiculous amount of beer and shots consumed brought a goofy smile to my face by the end of the night.
By exactly three forty-five I was seeing double and couldn't drive home. Niall and Darragh had left to go back to their apartment that happened to be a few blocks down from ours, and Zayn and Liam stayed behind at the bar to drink deciding that they were too far gone now and might as well finish strong. They also decided that class tomorrow isn't important.
Michelle would have stayed behind with them I'm sure, but she has the tendency to be this odd motherly type when I get beyond the legal limit. I think she just likes to laugh at me because I start to say foolish things when my tongue loosens up in my mouth and my words slur. I tried to get up from the table discreetly so that I could walk home while Mitch, Zayn, and Liam continued to chat, but I knocked over a chair.
“Oh shit. I'm sorry bro." I chuckled to myself like an idiot as I picked up the chair earning the lads attention.
"Where are you going?" Michelle's eyes seemed to widen as she took in the state of me.
"Home. I've got class in the morrow-morning.”
"Do you honestly think that you're going to make it to class? Look at you, you can barely stand. My job is complete.” Michelle grins in triumph and I squint my eyes at her trying to figure out when she was going to tell me that she was a triplet.
"You're a horrible people and I don't know why we're friends." I think I was looking at her when I said it, but it could have very well been one of her sisters.
"Alright, and that's my cue. We'll see you later guys." Michelle spoke to Liam and Zayn as stood from the table, a little wobbly at best bus still in a better condition than I was in.
"You don't have to walk me home, Michelle. I'm not no kid.”
Michelle laughed as I stumbled, almost tripping on a crack in the pavement.
"Since I live there too I'm not technically walking you home. I'm walking home with you.”
I checked to see if my car was locked before we began our walk. The crisp early morning air sobered me up a bit, but I was still highly intoxicated and grinning.
"How was your first day of classes?" Michelle asked me breaking the silence of our trek back to our flat.
"Hmm, was okay. Good actually... I met this…met this girl.”
"You did? You were holding out on us at the pub! Who is it? Do I know who she is?”
"No, I don't think you do," I paused to hiccup hoping that was all that I had to do, "She's new here and you don't like girls. I mean, well, you know what I mean. You wouldn't know her.”
Michelle laughed while shaking her head.
“So it's a first year? I'm ashamed of you! I know you haven't dated in a while but that's sweeping the bottom of the barrel, Harrow.”
“No not a first year," hiccup "She's around my age, just new to Cambridge.”
“Oh," Michelle spoke putting her key in the door before she opened it "Where'd you meet her?”
“Work. I kind of asked her to come to the pub with me, but she said she had a date and I kind of sounded like a blubbering idiot when I asked her. I don't know.”
“Harry! You can't just invite people to come to the pub and we haven't met them yet! What if she was awful? Good thing she didn't come. That tradition is sacred for us. Whatever you said to her was probably fine. She just had other plans... Do you know why I've recently started calling you Harrow Harry?”
“Because it's one of the many odd nicknames you've created for me?”
“No. Harrow as in the adjective, it just so happens to fit with you. Har•row when used in verbal tense, means to cause distress to. You're causing unnecessary distress to yourself when you worry about things like the UKCAT and assignments that aren't due until the end of the year, and whatever you've said to this mystery bird that you've met at work. Fun. You used to be much less tense and more fun. You need to chill out and relax. You need to I don't know, get some maybe.”
I rolled my eyes before running my hand through my hair and walking into the kitchen, opening the cabinet in search of my favorite drunken snack, grabbing it when I found it and heading for my room. Quickly stripping off into my boxers, I fell against my bed before I turned on my television and got under the covers. I ate my snack in peace before Michelle knocked on my door twice and then let herself in.
"I could have been naked! you could at least wait for me to say come in.”
“Yeah well, its not like I've never seen a penis before and they're not really my main thing anymore you know?” Michelle climbed into bed with me, intruding while I tried to hide my snacks.
"What are you eating?”
“Nothing.” I slowed my chewing in hopes that she would lose interest.
"Harry I see them! Are those teddy grahams?”
“No!”
“They are! They're a snack for a five year old.”
“Teddy grahams don't have an age limit.”
“You should be embarrassed.” Chelle spoke before grabbing the box and taking a handful for herself, moving around too much for my drunken stomach to handle.
"Oohh these are nice. These are new sheets aren't they?”
"Chelle! Stop moving! Why are you in my room? Get out!”
“My room is too hot, so I've decided that we're going to have a sleepover. You get the better ventilation. You should trade with me.”
“What?”
“I'll sleep on the floor. It really is dreadful in my room.”
I sigh before I grab my pillows and comforter and toss them on the ground leaving Michelle the bed as I make my way to the floor.
“Aww Harry you're the sweetest, but I can really take the floor.”
“No, it's fine. Just don't do anything perverted while you're up there.”
“What like masturbate? I'm not you.”
I chuckled turning to face her from my position on the floor.
“Exactly, but if you do at least that I’m asleep first…Thats just common courtesy. ”
“Sure thing, Harlot. I can do that for you.” Michelle responded without pause causing me to chuckle before my head hit the pillow.
****
“ My head,” I groaned, waking up on the floor with my covers wrapped around me too tight much like a swaddling cloth. After successfully the blanket away from me in an attempt to escape confinement, I sat up slowly only to make the headache worse than it already was and add a new pain to the mix. “My back.”
I had almost forgotten that I slept on the floor to be nice and allowed Michelle to stay in my bed, but when I turned around to look at it I quickly discovered that she wasn't there. I could hear fumbling around in the kitchen and when I stood to follow the noise, the pounding in my head grew. When I reached the small space that we mostly use to microwave shitty food and store alcohol and juice, I saw that Michelle was fully dressed. I mean, well, if you can call an oversized sweater and tights with ladders down the legs in random places dressed then thats what she was.
“Morning, sunshine. How do you feel.”
“Like my head might explode all over the kitchen and I still have to get ready for class. Today is going to be long as shit,” my words slurred proving that there was still traces of alcohol in my bloodstream and when I swayed back and forth feeling as if I might lose my balance, I knew, “I'm still fucked.”
Michelle laughed at me before she flipped her pancake onto a plate and ran it back and forth below my nose. I snatched it from her and took a bite of the buttery breakfast cake without using the fork that she offered.
“Don't be such a savage, Haz. I'm not going to take the food from you after I've clearly been slaving over the oven for five whole minutes so that you could eat. Slow down, chew your food, and sit like a civilized human being. If you eat like that you're going to require the heimlich maneuver and unfortunately I don't know it. You'll turn blue and die in front of me on a Tuesday afternoon and that would put a slight damper on my day.”
“Afternoon?” I asked her while chewing around the pancake, “Afternoon?”
“Yes, Styles. Thats what I said.”
I put the plate that I was holding down on our small kitchen bench before I walked out into living room to squint at the only other clock that we had besides our cell phones, only to confirm what Chelle had just said. I rubbed my hands over my eyes hoping that it was just an illusion and what I'd seen was wrong because if it was the truth, I'd missed all of my morning classes for the day.
“Three eleven? It can't be three eleven! I had classes from nine until two!”
“And you slept through them like a baby.”
“Fuck! Michelle why didn't you wake me up? What's the point of having an Ultimate Alarm if it's not going to be used?”
“Harry, remember that little chat we had yesterday about distress and the use of your nickname? And in order for me to wake you up, I would have had to been up too. Even if I was, I wouldn't be using the Ultimate Alarm to save you with the splitting hangover that I had,” Michelle shakes her head in clear disgust before she continued, “too loud.”
My eyes widened as I looked at my friend, bewildered, annoyed, and somewhere deep down, somewhat amused. I waved my hand between the two of us before I gave up and ran it over my face exasperatedly. This is not how I intended to start the year off. My hand ascended from my face to sliding through my hair in distress, “Thats the point of the alarm, Michelle. It's supposed to be loud. It's supposed to wake you up.”
“Harry, calm down. When we got to sleep it was like seven in the morning anyway. I don't know how you expected to be up, awake, and alert in class. Don't you have like seven others that you can go to tonight? Over achiever.”
“If I shower now I can make it to my organic chemistry class.”
“Gross.”
I looked over to Michelle and frowned before I continued, “ Thanks for throwing me off by the way, making pancakes at three in the afternoon and making me think that it was morning.”
“Whatever time of day that you wake up is morning to me. I was feeling like pancakes, so I made pancakes. You didn't seem to mind them by the way that you were eating them a few minutes ago, arsehole.”
The mention of the food reminded me of how dry my throat was and how alcohol will leave your mouth feeling like you'd guzzled sand if you consume enough of it. I felt like a raisin.
“Do we have anymore orange juice?”
"No. Sorry I finished that all yesterday morning when you almost killed me and Alison with that damn fog horn.”
“Alison?” I smirked at Michelle before I started to tease. "Usually a player doesn't remember a conquests name.”
“You would know," she retorted back while squinting her eyes, “ you used to be one. But don't worry, Harry. I'll get so good at it that you won't ever catch one of them leaving the next morning ever again. I'll be like a black widow or is it a praying mantises that kill all other intimacy as soon as they've finished with them? I'll send them on their way so that I can sleep in my bed alone. It'll be like a switch.”
Michelle grinned as she spoke, silently approving her idea as I thought about how lonely it sounded. It actually saddened me. Michelle isn't the type that can handle being cold hearted and callous enough to kick people out of bed. After being in a monogamous relationship for three years, I could tell that she was the type who craved intimacy. She deserved it. What she just explained to me sounded like eventually it would take its toll on her and she would break down like she did before, substituting my shirt sleeves for tissues.
I keep my opinions to myself, not having enough time before my next class starts to really sit down with her and talk about them. If it's one thing that I cherish about Michelle and I's relationship is that we can literally almost talk about anything, if we had the proper amount of time to do so. I shake my head at her before I head down the hall, calling back to her.
“I never was a player, Mitch. I just wasn't steady in my relationships like you.”
"Whatever you say, Harold. Please go put on trousers…I don't want to see your moose knuckle.”
****
I'd made it to my chemistry lecture on time, and though I tried my hardest, it was extremely difficult to keep my eyes open. Even though I'd slept past all of my morning classes, I still didn't get the best rest from sleeping on the floor. Michelle was irritatingly right again. The only thing that was really mentioned today since it was still the very beginning of the school year, was instruction and what the professor expected from us as a class, so when my eyes closed momentarily as I sat at the back of the room, I didn't feel so bad. Before I knew it the lecture was over and I was rustled awake my the movement of students as they gathered their bags to leave the room.
"You've got a bit of dribble there." A familiar voice laughed as I stepped out of the classroom I wiped my mouth sheepishly before smiling at her.
“Rion, hi how are you?”
“I'm good. Getting around campus well enough, but how are you? You look pretty worn out and its only the second official day of the school year. Did your tradition get the best of you last night? You've got imprint marks from your sweater on your face.”
My hand went to the side of my face that she pointed out, the imprints from my clothing giving away my previous position before I flashed her a quick grin and responded ,Um, uh yeah kind of. I may or may not have missed all of my classes this morning. Mitch didn't wake me up, bad influence I guess.”
“Mitch?”
"Oh, um sh- Mitch is just...Mitch is my roommate." I explained in a panic I didn't want to scare her off with the details. I think I might actually have a chance with Rion, if I don't put my foot in my mouth that is.
“Oh I see.”
Rion smiled at me and I didn't even realize that we've been walking and talking this entire time. Conversation flows easily with her even though I stumble over my words. I feel like I'm just remembering how to talk to the opposite sex besides Michelle and feel kind of pathetic, but Rion doesn't seem to mind as she continues to smile laugh and start on new topics of conversation.
“So how long were you out for?”
“I didn't go to sleep until seven this morning and my head was pounding when I woke up. I really have no one to blame but myself. I told my friends that I would only have one drink and ended the night on my ass. I still have to go back to the pub and get my car, because I had to end up walking home. How I got to the right apartment on the first try is a mystery to me.”
Rion giggled in a cute way before tucking a stray piece of hair behind her ear allowing me to see her features more. Her neck was slender and long, connecting to her shoulders delicately. She had a small tattoo that looked to be a ballet flat behind her left ear. Those tattoos placed just there always seemed like they might hurt, like they deserved to be kissed better even though the ache from the needle has been long gone. I could envision my lips on just that spot. I must have glanced at her just a bit longer than I should have causing a rosy hue to make its presence known on her cheeks. It made me smile before I quickly changed the subject this time, not wanting her to think that I was rude or weird for staring.
"How did your date go?"
She took deep breath before deciding if she wanted give a response or not and we ended up in the courtyard right before the student parking lot.
"It came and went, I suppose. Nothing really interesting to report. It sounds like I would have had more fun if I had taken the offer to go out for drinks with you. I'm usually not really big on drinking on the weekdays, but after that date I honestly might have taken a shot or four."
I smiled, selfishly happy that she didn't have a good time. I want to ask her out, but I feel like its too damn soon. I only met her yesterday anyway. Maybe its a good thing that she turned me down. When the time is right to ask her I'm sure I'll know. Hopefully I will.
"I'm sorry it didn't go as planned. Someone should take you out and show you a good time."
"Yeah, hopefully someone will sooner rather than later."
I think the emphasis that she put on the word someone was aimed at me, but I could be wrong. I don't know what else to say so I cap the conversation off with a , "Yeah" and mentally slap myself in the face before I grin awkwardly at her. I look around the parking lot as we come up to a white Toyota and she takes her keys out signaling that the tiny car is hers.
"Oh, well I'll let you go and get on with the rest of your day. Good seeing you."
"Okay, yeah." She responds quietly before she puts the key in the lock to open the door.
This has to be the most awkward I've felt in a while. I radiate awkward and though I don't want to believe it's because of what Michelle and the boys said, I'm kind of starting to think that they might be right myself.
"Wait, Harry?"
"Yes?" I turn my head to look over my shoulder before turning around to face her.
"I can take you to go get your car if you'd like. It looks like it might rain and it would suck if you were to get all wet."
All wet. I blush at her word choice and from that point on I know. Michelle, Niall, and Darragh were right.
"No. No its okay. You don't have to and I mean, don't you have other classes?"
She shakes her head and then opens her other car door, "I'm done for the day. Really I don't have a problem taking you. Get in."
I walk back towards her, thanking her and then giving her directions to the pub from the main campus. When we pull up, sure enough my car is there. Along with a ticket taped to the window for leaving it in the lot overnight. I sigh and rub my hands over my eyes before I get out and thank Rion again. Just as she's about to pull off, I call her name causing her to stop the car and reverse.
"Yes?" She looks at me eagerly with her eyes slightly widened and and traces of a grin on her face. I scratched my head out of embarrassment before I speak while pointing to the passenger side of the car.
"I left my book bag in your car."
"Oh, sorry. Here you go." The grin falls as she unlocks her car door so that I can get my bookbag. This time when she pulls off, I wave an awkward goodbye to her before getting in my car, knocking my head against the steering wheel in defeat causing the horn to honk.

What do you think the greatest brotrayal of all time would be?
Tumblr media
What?
Somewhat of a challenge, not sure I pulled it off, but I hope you enjoy it anyway :D
Thanks to @janetm74 @scribbles97 @vegetacide and @tsarinatorment for various read throughs and cheerleading :D
Sorry, Scott :D
-o-o-o-
Scott glared at his brothers.
Virgil, John and Gordon stood in a line on the comms room hardwood floor all looking straight ahead as if they were in a military inspection. Which was particularly odd since only one of them had ever been in said military.
Hell, even his grandmother was ramrod straight beside them.
Scott was absolutely beside himself. Still dressed in his uniform, complete with its coating of mud, he had no doubt that his appearance was anything but reassuring to the brothers standing in front of him.
Not that he cared. This was beyond it all.
This was so ludicrous that it was hard to even suspect Gordon as the culprit.
Though he was still the most likely despite his arm being in a sling.
Scott eyed his fish brother. He had a scratch above one eyebrow that hadn’t been there when Scott left this morning.
But then a lot was different on Tracy Island since he left this morning.
The most obvious difference was the Thunderbird stuck at an angle where the pool was supposed to be.
His ‘bird was shining in the late afternoon light, her silver hull gleaming as she sat at a sixty-degree angle just beyond the balcony, her wings gouged into the concrete of the patio.
Virgil shifted where he stood on his crutches and Scott felt the briefest flash of guilt at making him stand there. His engineer brother had been grounded for the last week with a broken ankle, along with Gordon and his broken arm. Which is why Scott had been in Two today with the currently guilt free Alan.
His youngest brother stood off to one side, apparently caught between shock and relief that he wasn’t to blame.
“I’m waiting for an explanation.” For several things.
The room still reeked of burnt furnishings. Whatever had happened in the kitchen had left it black and under a haze of smoke that had infiltrated the villa.
As if to comment, John sneezed suddenly. His space brother sniffed and screwed up his face before he realised Scott was eyeing him. He, too, was standing on crutches, something he wasn’t doing this morning.
And still no-one said anything.
Not even Grandma, and honestly that was a kicker.
“Gordon-“
“What are you looking at me for?”
Scott shot him a flat stare. “History.”
“Hey, the last time I borrowed One, I brought her back in one piece.”
“Complete with Eau de Polecat!”
“That does not automatically put me at fault. Besides this was an emergency.”
Scott blinked. A little progress. “And?”
But Gordon clammed up and went back to staring at the portraits on the far side of the room, every bit the WASP Lieutenant Tracy he actually was.
Scott turned to John, his ever-faithful source of relevant information.
“J-“
“I’m sitting down.” John turned and crutched his way past Scott and into the sunken lounge without another word.
Scott stared after him.
“Honey, are you feeling okay?” His grandmother followed his space brother and began fussing over him and his leg, both completely ignoring Scott.
What the-? “How. Did. This. Happen?!” Okay, so he might be yelling just a little, but the cause was sufficient. He turned to his trusted first. His best friend. His brother. His Virgil.
Said brother was looking rather pale. “Virgil?”
Sad, dark eyes looked up at him. “I wanted to make you popcorn.”
-o-o-o-
Virgil was frustrated. Virgil was always frustrated when he was grounded and today sported no reason to change that attitude.
Worse, he had had to watch Scott take his ‘bird out to a mudslide. His big brother was not a fan of flying Two, but since Virgil had a busted ankle and Gordon an equally busted arm, that was the deal today.
To top it all off, mudslides sucked big time and Scott and Alan would likely come home exhausted, especially since two of their brothers were currently unavailable to assist.
So, to help just that little bit he had spent the last couple of hours hobbling around the kitchen slapping together something that could be considered a relaxing meal for that evening, vetoing any chance of Grandma getting into the kitchen and destroying stomach linings.
It helped that Grandma was in Wellington with Kayo.
To top it off, Virgil had put together an apple pie, Scott’s favourite. He had also made sure there was a bucket of triple chocolate ice cream in the freezer for Alan – one that he had stashed away for emergencies just like this.
The last thing on his list was to make some candy popcorn for the squirt and put some kernels aside ready for popping later so they would be nice and warm for the movie.
He was in the process of heating the oil when Gordon burst into the room as if out of nowhere.
Virgil to dropped a spoon.
Damn sandshoes were silent.
“Hubert’s dying!”
“What?” His back creaked as he picked up the piece of cutlery.
“Hubert, the albatross that collided with the window and broke his wing.”
“What albatross?” The oil began to smoke a little so he turned the heat off. His Gordon radar was at full alert – this would likely take a while.
“Yesterday? Upstairs? How did you not hear that?” A blink. “Okay, it was five am. You don’t exist before ten, I’m sorry.” The sarcasm was dripping and a little caustic. “Regardless, Hubert has gone limp and I think he’s dying, Virg. Help me please.” The accompanying clasped hands reminiscent of either prayers or vigorous begging, complete with a sling that wasn’t doing what it was supposed to, were a little over the top.
“Okay. Fine. Show me the patient.” He reached over and nudged the broken arm back into its sling while Gordon glared him.
“Hurry up.”
Virgil grabbed his crutches and followed Gordon to the stairs before darting sideways and thumbing the elevator doors open.
“Okay, fine, hop-a-long.” Gordon jumped down the last few steps and hurried into the elevator with Virgil.
He bounced on his heels the entire way to the infirmary level.
Virgil watched his agitation and realised that whatever was wrong with this bird, Gordon had invested himself in it, much like every other injured animal he had dragged home since he had learnt to walk.
Gordon ushered Virgil into the infirmary and to his horror,  he found the limp sea bird strapped secure in one of the beds. “Gordon, have you heard of hygiene?”
“It’s fine. The sheets are clean. He’s safe.”
Virgil rolled his eyes.
But Gordon’s whine drew him into examining the bird, which, considering it was avian, did not comply with the human knowledge Virgil possessed.
“I don’t really know, Gords.” Virgil stabbed at the infirmary’s computer interface, interrogating the net for baseline vitals for an albatross. Hell, he didn’t even know which species.
“It’s a Gibson’s Albatross.” Gordon was stroking the unconscious bird gently with his fingers.
This was not the first time, nor was it likely to be the last time Virgil found himself in this situation, though the species did vary. As always, his answer was. “I’m sorry, Gordon. You need a qualified vet.”
“But I set his wing. He should be getting better.” Gordon’s age regressed around animals and tended to break Virgil’s heart in the process.
“I’m sorry, Gordon.”
“For goodness sake, we’re International Rescue!” The plea in his brother’s eyes stabbed right where it hurt.
But then those eyes widened and a light bulb went off above Gordon’s head.
Or it could have been a pre-emptive precursor for the migraine Virgil suddenly knew he was going to end up with.
“No, Gordon.”
“But he’s dying!” Gordon grabbed Virgil by the arm. “It’s our job to save lives.”
“How exactly are we going to get him to the mainland? Neither of us can fly.” Virgil wasn’t going to admit it, but the bird didn’t look like it was going to last long enough for another family member to make it home. “I’m sorry, Gordon.” He was already calculating how to cheer up his little brother.
“No!”
He sighed. It wasn’t as if he wanted the bird to die. Hell, if he was hail and healthy, he would have already put it on Tracy Two and be halfway to Auckland by now. But there was no way he was risking himself or his brother in a plane with a broken limb. Maybe Kayo might get back in time?
But then the inevitable happened. He should have seen it coming.
“We can take Thunderbird One!”
Virgil blinked. “What? No!” God, no, Scott would kill him.
“This is a life, Virgil! What makes a bird’s any less important than a human’s? It’s his life, our house has endangered it, and now we aren’t doing anything to help save it? How is that fair?” Gordon’s fists were now clenched at his sides, the sling yet again ignored. Fiery carnelian glared at Virgil. “I can’t do it with my arm, but Thunderbird One doesn’t require feet to operate.” A flicker of his eyelids. “This is on you.”
Virgil stared at his little brother.
A glance at the limp bird on the bed.
Back to Gordon, ever so fiery and passionate.
Virgil reached down, unfolded Gordon’s fist and pulled the sling back into place.
Ten minutes later he found himself doing what he did every time this kind of situation happened.
Thunderbird One launched with Virgil at the helm and Gordon clutching a desperately ill albatross in the back seat.
-o-o-o-
Scott stared at his second eldest brother, the man with whom he trusted so much. Virgil had literally held Scott’s life in his hands on several occasions.
“You borrowed One to take an injured bird to the vet.”
Virgil shifted where he stood. “It was to save a life.”
Scott turned to the lounge and glared at John. “And you let him fly with a broken ankle?”
John returned the glare with equal strength. “Are you kidding me? This is Virgil we’re talking about. I thought One was safer in his hands than yours.”
“What?!”
“It’s not like he’s going to do anything stupid with your ‘bird, is he?”
There were no words, so Scott just gestured in the direction of the pool.
With both hands.
“Yeah, well, probabilities can’t predict everything.”
The flippant, non-answer went straight to Scott’s head and rattled around in there for a moment or two before he chose to file it for later or risk implosion. John was rubbing at his foot and Scott latched onto it to save his sanity. “How did you hurt yourself?”
“In case you haven’t noticed, the kitchen caught fire. Kayo had already been called out again and I was worried about Grandma.”
“And?”
“I tripped.”
“Over what?”
“My own feet! It’s not every day you see Thunderbird One get stuck in the pool!” John glared at Scott. “Cahelium on concrete is very loud.”
Scott stared at him, not willing to face the image those words inflicted on him.
“Why was the kitchen on fire?”
But then something Virgil had said popped into his mind. He couldn’t help it, he rubbed his face with his hand. “Grandma, why didn’t you wait for Virgil to get home?”
“He left the popcorn on the counter, dear, I was trying to help.” Grandma wasn’t looking at him. John’s leg appeared to need a good rub right at this very moment.
John was wincing.
But with that explained, Scott had no choice but to turn back to Virgil, who was still standing clinging to his crutches.
Why hadn’t he sat down? He was ever so very sorry looking and Scott’s heart melted at the edges.
“Virgil, what happened?”
Brown eyes slowly peered up at him.
God, did he really have to deploy that little brother expression. Thunderbird One was down for the count, stuck in the damned pool and the brother responsible wasn’t even letting him stay angry. Goddamnit! How does a thirty-year-old man regress to six-year-old like that? Those eyes were the same eyes Virgil deployed that time he crashed Scott’s bicycle.
As if in answer, something whacked Scott’s thigh.
Ow! “What the hell?”
Looking down he found an extremely large seagull with a bandaged wing glaring up at him. Their eyes met and it squawked.
Very loudly.
“Hubert! What are you doing down here?” And suddenly, there was a race on around the comms room, Gordon chasing the waddling bird as it methodically thumped everyone with its wings, took out a pot plant and to Scott’s horror, one of Dad’s souvenirs. Both toppled with a crash as Gordon continued to chase Hubert around the room.
Alan joined him a moment later.
Part of Scott wanted to yell the building down, but most of him just wanted to know how the hell his ‘bird had ended up stuck halfway into her launch bay.
So, he turned back to Virgil and asked again, perhaps a little louder over the ruckus as the stupid bird scrambled over John in its eagerness to torture everyone.
He approached his brother carefully and placed a hand on each arm. “Virg, What happened?”
“It was an accident. I’m sorry, Scott.”
“That much is obvious. What malfunctioned?”
Brown eyes were suddenly not looking at him.
“Virgil?”
His brother straightened a little. “You have too many damned levers.”
“What?”
He seemed to be saying that a lot today.
“I pushed the wrong lever, okay? It’s on the left on Two and One has it on the right and I yanked on it to slow and the wings deployed. Wrong lever, sorry, okay?”
Scott stared at Virgil, his jaw slowly dropping as his hands lost their grip on his brother and just hovered mid-air beside him. “You used the wrong lever?”
“Yeah, sorry, my bad.” Virgil was looking at his feet. “Can I sit down now?”
Scott’s mouth was still open and he had to force himself to close it. “Sure.” So his voice was a little bit higher than normal…
Virgil didn’t hesitate, clutching his crutches and hurriedly tapping his way over to the lounge.
Behind Scott there was a sudden crash and the sound of breaking glass as both Alan and a bird squawked at the same time.
Scott didn’t turn to look. He just stood staring at his ‘bird, still gleaming in the late afternoon sun, still sticking out of the pool.
His jaw may have dropped just a little again.
But nothing more was said.

Thursday Thoughts: Marvel What If’s Fridging Problem
This blog post contains spoilers for the first seven episodes of Marvel What If and also some key plot points from the Ant-Man movies.
Time… Space… Reality… It’s more than a linear path. It’s a prism of endless possibility…
…but women leading happy, healthy lives, without a man’s feelings being the most important thing in her world? Nah, that’s too impossible!
I mentioned last week in my post about the animated Marvel series What If…? that this show has a fridging problem. If you’ve been following me for a while, you may remember that I’ve talked about the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the “fridged woman” trope before, in my Thursday Thoughts about Ant-Man and the Wasp, but let me summarize:
“Fridging” is a story trope in which a (male) hero’s (female) loved one is killed in order to motivate the hero to take action. This trope is common to superhero comics and films. The problem with this trope is that the fridged woman is more plot device than character. She exists to die; the male character’s emotions are more important than her life.
Now, Ant-Man and the Wasp provides a fascinating commentary on its trope. In the previous Ant-Man movie, Janet Van Dyne was a fridged woman – her only purpose in the film was to die so that Hank Pym would be motivated by his grief to choose Scott to be Ant-Man instead of his daughter, Hope. But Wasp gives Janet the chance to unfridge herself. She’s not only alive, but she plays an active role in her own rescue, and she is also essential to solving all the other conflicts in the movie.
If you’ve seen episodes three and five of What If, then you probably know what I’m going to say next.
THEY RE-FRIDGED JANET VAN DYNE!!! TWICE!!! AND HER DAUGHTER, TOO!!!
*takes a deep breath*
*lets it out again*
In Episode Three, “What If… the World Lost Its Mightiest Heroes?” we follow Nick Fury on the worst week of his life. Apparently, sometime before this episode began, Hope Van Dyne became a SHIELD agent and died on one of their missions. We don’t get to see this; we only learn that this happened when Hank Pym and Loki-disguised-as-Fury argue over Hope’s gravestone. Hope’s death drove Hank over the edge of despair, since he already blamed SHIELD for the death of his wife, and so he decided to ruin Nick Fury’s life by murdering the candidates for the Avengers Initiative.
We never learn why Hope decided to join SHIELD or what the mission she went on meant to her. What Hope felt or wanted does not matter to this story. Hank’s feelings matter instead.
Also, as if it wasn’t enough to fridge the Van Dyne women, there’s arguably one other fridged woman in this story. Remember how I said that this is the worst week of Nick Fury’s life? Everyone who dies in this episode dies because it will hurt Fury; they are plot devices in his story instead of the heroes of their own story. This includes Natasha Romanoff. In-universe, Hank Pym fridges her in hopes of hurting Nick Fury.
I was pretty mad about this. But at the time, I didn’t think it would get any worse.
*
Episode Five pits the Avengers against a zombie apocalypse. Now, would anyone like to guess the origin of this apocalypse? Who is the first victim of the zombie plague?
JANET. VAN. DYNE.
Because the writers of this show can’t help but shove her back in the fridge. And they can’t help but kill off all the women in this episode, too.
Now, I know what you’re going to say. “Everyone’s death is free game in this episode! That’s the point of the whole zombie apocalypse thing!” And, sure, you’re right. Pretty much everyone dies, and if you view this episode in isolation, there’s nothing wrong with that.
But I’m not talking about viewing this episode as an isolated incident. I’m looking at it as a part of a trend, and in this trend, superhero writers fridge their female characters. In this episode, the axed women include Sharon Carter, Okoye, and, once again, HOPE VAN DYNE.
I admit that Hope gets a great speech about her emotions and motivations before she sacrifices herself. She steps up and demands the right to be the hero of her own story. However, her death is ultimately framed as an emotional motivator for Peter – her final words are to tell Peter to “keep smiling.” Later, we get a second round of Hope’s death being about a man’s feelings, when Scott-in-the-jar sees and reacts to her giant zombie form, and Peter comforts him.
(Tell me, What If, why is it possible for Scott Lang to survive as a head in a jar, but not possible for any woman to survive this episode?)
I don’t want to spend too much time on this episode, but we could also talk about Wanda Maximoff. We don’t know what she wants or how she feels, since she’s, you know, a zombie. But her zombification provides Vision’s motivation for all the villainous decisions he makes in this episode. The show also makes a point of saying that zombie-Wanda is just too darn powerful, and so there’s no way for Vision to cure her like he cured Scott-in-a-jar. I guess fridged women just can’t get a miraculous cure.
*
Actually, wait – let’s talk a little more about this show’s claim that there’s no miraculous way to save a fridged woman.
Episode Four, “What If… Doctor Strange Lost His Heart Instead of His Hands?” is basically “Fridged Woman: The Episode.” It is stated in dialogue that Dr. Christine Palmer must die because her death motivates Strange to become a sorcerer. The whole point of the episode is that Strange cannot save her and that he is wrong to try. If Christine doesn’t die, then the universe ends.
This tells me that the writers of this show know what they’re doing. They know what fridging is. They can use the trope and even provide meta-commentary on it. But they don’t seem to have any interest in moving beyond it, even though they could.
Because here’s the thing – I know how Strange could have saved Christine. The Ancient One says that Christine’s death is the only reason why Strange seeks out the mystic arts… but that’s not true. We all know that’s not true. Even the title of this episode knows that that’s not true. Strange would be motivated to seek out the mystic arts if he lost his hands.
What if the Doctor Strange of this reality went back in time, ruined his relationship with Christine so she wouldn’t want to go with him that night, and got himself horrifically injured in the car crash? He’d be prioritizing her life over his own, making sure that she got to live her own life, and he would preserve the timeline by creating the events of the canon movie.
It could have happened. This show is supposed to be a prism of endless possibility. It could be a show about moving beyond tired tropes and exploring new options. But instead, What If doubles down on the idea that the woman must die.
*
At this point, you might say, “Okay, Sophie, but not every episode of What If fridges its women! Did you forget that the very first episode of this show is all about Peggy Carter?”
Here’s the thing: even when the women live, their feelings matter less to the plot than the men’s.
If you want to hear about that, come back next week. This Thursday Thoughts is way too long, and I need a break.
Be good to yourself, be kind to each other, and you’ll hear from me again soon!

You Saved Me - Derek Hale x fem!reader part 4
I’m really chugging these out. Mostly because its practically written already. But I will let you know that in the original, I did write in “blue orbs” so you can assume how much I had to fix.
----------------------------
“Um, hi.” I said, very surprised and confused that he was here.
“We need to talk.”
“As you mentioned. But we can’t talk here, you are a suspect in a crime and this is the sheriff’s house.” I crossed my arms over my chest.
“Then can I get my jacket back, since you don’t want to be associated with a criminal.” This was the first time he had shown any sort of emotion besides seriousness. Granted, it was condescending.
“I didn’t say I didn’t want to be associated with you.” I handed him his jacket, a little sad to see it go, “You saved my life, I just don’t want you to get in trouble.”
“A little late for that.” He said, putting his jacket on.
“What’s going on?” I asked, stepping closer to him. He looked at me warily (as if he needed to be wary of me) but didn’t move away.
“You wouldn’t understand.” Usually, I would reply ‘then make me understand’, but I was still on the fence about him. He perked up a bit, like he was hearing something.
“Here.” He held out his closed hand, I held mine out and he dropped my locket into my hands. I gasped, reaching up to my neck and realized it wasn’t there. I looked down at the locket.
“Oh my god, thank you. I would have never forgiven myself if I lost-” I looked up and realized I was talking to no one, “And you disappeared. Okay.” My phone beeped in my pocket and saw a text from Stiles move across the screen.
“Scott woke up in the woods and ran into a swimming pool this morning.” I read aloud. This town was starting to just become weirder and weirder. It was a nice distraction from my own personal life, but now it was getting borderline concerning.
At practice, Stiles filled in Scott and I on what he had heard over the police radio. The body, or half of the body, had been sent into the LA coroner’s office where the lad had found animal hair, specifically wolf hair. Scott wasn’t paying too much attention though, he looked like he was in his own little world.
It was the first scrimmage game of the year and Coach was pretty excited, which wasn’t his usual tune. As the game started, I watched Scott pull off the craziest moves I had ever seen attempted on the field. He was moving so incredibly fast and he even flipped over someone and scored a goal at the same time! Finstock looked like his head was about to explode, which meant that he was happy. Or at least I think so. In a time out, he waved Scott over.
“What in god’s name was that? This is a lacrosse field. You wanna try out for some gymnastics team?”
“No, Coach.” Scott said. What I found weird was that his breathing was that of someone who had normal lungs and never had a breathing problem in his life. That just gave me a weird feeling, something that would stick with me for the rest of the night.
“What the hell was that?” Coach asked, motioning to the field.
“I-I don’t know. I guess trying to make the shot.”
“Yeah, well, you made the shot. And guess what? You’re startin’, buddy.” Coach smiled, slapping a shocked Scott’s shoulder, “You made first line.”
Scott grinned looking between Finstock and me. I put on a smile. I was happy for Scott, but there was too much weird going on.
-
I managed to beat Stiles home, even though he was driving like a maniac. I grabbed his arm as he walked up the driveway, “What is going on?” He shook my arm off.
“Leave me alone.” He grumbled, stomping through the house, up to his room and slamming the door shut. It was times like this that knowing Stiles well came in handy. He was pissed. And talking to him about it had a ten percent chance of working. They had put him in therapy when his mom died and the therapist told Uncle Noah that when Stiles was mad, it would be better to let him cool off on his own.
Scott was at the door soon after, after letting him in, I patted his shoulder, “Good luck.” I could hear the arguing from my room, but the words were muffled by insulation. Things used to be so normal before, but it seems like the fires in this town caused unnatural things to occur.
Maybe it was time I asked Derek some weird questions. Was this a good idea? Absolutely not. Regardless, I needed answers.
As I drove the dark back roads to get to the Hale house, I noticed that the moon was full. I hummed absentmindedly to my music and argued with myself on whether or not this was a good idea. It probably wasn’t.
-
I debated on whether or not to knock. The door was already halfway open and the whole back of the house was practically missing. I opted to knock.
“Derek?” I called, after stepping inside, “Derek, it’s (Y/N). We need to talk. There are a lot of weird things going on and I need answers.” I turned and when I saw Derek standing right behind me, I thought my heart almost stopped.
“Jesus, you gotta stop doing that.” I sighed in relief.
“What are you doing here?” That seemed to be his favorite question to ask, “Didn’t your parents tell you not to go out on full moons?” Oddly specific. But it was true, my parents never let me go out on a full moon. And when I was younger they would drop me off at Uncle Noah’s house, they called it a date night.
“Actually, yes. How did you know that?” I narrowed my eyes at him.
“You need to go home. Now.” He turned me around, pushing me towards the door.
“Hey hey hey, no no no.” I dug my heels into the floor, “I came here to talk to you. Something weird is going on and it involves you. I know it does.”
“You could not have come at a worse time.” He grumbled.
“Listen here, Hale, I came here for answers and I intend to get them so I’m not going anywhere until-” I was cut off by Derek throwing me over his shoulder and hurriedly taking me outside. I pounded his back with my hands and kicked my legs. But he was too strong for me to move.
“Put me down! Derek!” He growled and set me back on my feet in front of my car door. He slammed his hands on the car, caging me between the door and his body. He was so warm, actually radiating heat. I tried to fight the blush that was creeping on my cheeks.
“Why are you so stubborn?” He raised his eyebrows. He was so close and his actions made me speechless, “And why aren’t you scared of me? If you were smart you would go out of your way to avoid me like everyone else.” I finally found my voice.
“Well, clearly I’m not like everyone else. I can see that something fishy is going on. Scott is practically bouncing off the walls all after being attacked by something in the woods. And you were talking about something in the woods so that means you know what it is, so tell me!” I shouted the last bit. Our eyes locked. It was hard not to look away, his stare was so intense.
He sighed, “Fine.” He backed away, the cool night bringing a chill back after being so close to him.
“Meet me in the woods by your house tomorrow. I’ll answer your questions.”
“All of my questions?” I asked, a small tremble in my voice.
“Don’t push it.” He looked around, clenching and unclenching his hands, “Now go home.” And I did, I got in my car and left. I was going to get my answers.
-
“Arrested?!” I shouted in disbelief. I’m sure Uncle Noah took the phone from his ear.
“We had to take him in. That body in the woods was his sister, Laura.” He said. Laura Hale was a name I vaguely recognized, but I never met her before.
“We aren’t convicting him, but he’s already a suspect in his family’s deaths and now that we found his sister, he doesn’t look entirely innocent.”
“Derek wouldn’t hurt anybody.”
“(Y/N), you don’t know that.”
“He didn’t hurt me. He brought me to the hospital.”
“And that is one of the reasons why I am giving him the benefit of the doubt.” He said, then sighed, “Look, we don’t have anything to hold him over night. We’re just getting his statement and then he’s free to go. As long as he doesn’t leave the area. Now I gotta go, I’ll see you at home.”
“Okay, see you later.” I hung up the phone and fell back on my bed, staring up at the ceiling. Derek couldn’t have killed his sister. Especially cutting her in half. Or at least, that’s what I hoped. It scared me though, to think that Derek could be capable of that. But, no, he couldn’t be. He was the victim of happenstance. I think. But Laura had been out there a while, so the possibility of Michael was high. By running was he trying to frame Derek?
They found wolf fur on Laura’s body and while it doesn’t explain who killed it did say something about the area. It seems like the wolf population is coming back. They could have come from somewhere else in search of food or maybe the national wildlife service moved them in to control the deer population. I feel like everyone would have heard about that though, at least an email or something.
-
After dinner, I decided to go into the woods to see if Derek would actually meet up with me. I told Stiles that I was going on a walk to clear my head. A few minutes into the woods, I decided to wait instead on a boulder in a clearing near the creek. I had only been there maybe ten minutes when I heard the footsteps approaching. I smiled and stood.
“Now is it that hard to make your presence known?” I turned and stared, but the person I was looking at was not Derek. It was Michael.
He smiled, tilting his head to the side, “Hey, sweetheart. Miss me?”
“Stay away from me.” My body started to tremble, “Stay back!” I backed up, keeping my eyes on him but cursed myself when my back hit a tree. Michael closed the gap between us, leaning closer. I turned my head away, listening to him sniff my hair.
“You smell so good.” He hummed.
“Get away from me.” Tears made their way down my cheeks.
“C’mon. Just relax.” He placed his hands on either side of my face.
“No, NO!” I screamed, and shoved him. He fell back a few feet, looking surprised at my strength. I looked down at my hands, then him. He was pissed.
“Alright, enough fooling around.” He got up and I started running. I didn’t get too far, Michael had always been fast. I heard him stumble, but he grabbed my foot, bringing me down to the ground.
“HELP!” I screamed, “SOMEBODY!”
“Nah, not this time.” he dragged me up from the ground, wrapping his arms around my body and beginning to drag me towards the creek. I struggled, thrashing my torso and legs.
“HELP! DEREK!” I shouted, hoping that he was nearby, coming to meet with me like he said he would. Michael turned me in his arms, gripping tight.
“Derek Hale? You shacking up with that freak?!” He shook me.
“Michael, please, please, let me go, please.” I begged, my pleads were met with a sharp slap with the back of his hand. I yelped.
“HELP!” I cried again.
“Shut up! I said shut up-” A  loud roar cut him off, his grip loosening. It sounded like a bear, but when I looked to the source, my heart started to pound more than it already was.
It was Derek, but he wasn’t entirely himself, not human. His eyes were a bright, glowing blue, his face was different. His brow bone was more pronounced. His hair grew down the sides of his face. his ears were pointed. He had large sharp fangs on his canines. He had claws on his hands.
Derek leapt from the hill that he stood on, landing on all fours and letting out another hellish roar. He came towards us, Michael shoved me towards Derek, starting to run the other way. But Derek maneuvered around me, chasing after him. The chase went down a hill, towards the creek. What I heard next was Michael’s screaming and then a heavy sounding thud. I stood there for a while, still trying to process what the hell was happening. What is he?
My eyes shot back up to the hill, Derek was walking upright, his face and hands back to normal. I stayed in my spot, waiting for him to come up to me. He stopped, he was breathing heavily through his nose. I looked over at him, he was splattered with blood. I grabbed his hand, seeing normal fingernails and hands. My eyes then went to his face, I touched his cheeks. No more hair growing down. His eyes were back to their normal green. Derek slowly took my hands in his, bringing them back down to my sides.
“What-What are you?” I whispered, not trusting my voice.
He looked at me for a moment before answering, “I’m a werewolf.” I left out a deep breath. Letting his words settle into my mind.
“Are you okay?” He asked softly. I could only nod, still speechless. He softly brushed his fingers over my cheek where Michael hit me, I winced. It was already starting to feel sore.
“Are you scared now?” He asked. I should be. I should be running for the hills. It was insanity to even believe in werewolves and yet, here one stood in front of me.
I shook my head, “No. I do have questions though. Um, you answered one of them.” I ran a hand through my hair. He nodded, placing his hand softly on my lower back.
“Let’s get you home.” We started walking, but I stopped us.
“Wait, no, we can’t go there. I can’t bring you to my house. My uncle could be there and when he sees you covered in blood, he will arrest you.” I thought for a moment, “Dammit.” I had to think of something, something to protect him. Whether he saved me or not, he still killed Michael and that was still murder.
“I got it.” I said, “Can you climb well?”

“Hardin?” He looks like shit. He hasn’t sleep at all and his hands are trembling. For a second you wonder if he’s drunk, but his eyes seem focused and clear. Not the usual glazed look when he’s been downing shots.
“Nice office,” he states looking around.
“What are you doing here?” you ask feeling like you just entered the lion’s den. He could strike at any point and you’re defenseless. Everything in you is screaming but you stay calm on the outside.
“I wanted to, no. I needed to see you. And then I found out you were working for Vance now.”
“So, you just showed up without telling me first?” you ask trying to buy yourself some time to figure out why he’s here. Did he get tired of Tessa already? Perhaps he realised he made a mistake. But if that’s the case, were you prepared to take him back?
“I’m sorry. I guess I’ve messed up a lot of stuff lately.”
“You think?” You’ve spent so long crying over the boy standing in front of you that you haven’t been able to feel all the anger too. But now you feel it. You feel the humiliation of being cheated on, the anger of his betrayal, the utter defeat of losing him. In some ways, it’s liberating to feel angry instead of heartbroken - though some may argue that it’s the same thing.
“I know I have. I messed things up with you and I’ll never not be sorry about that, Y/N. You have to believe me.” He’s stepping closer to you with clear desperation in his eyes. He means it but you’re not sure you’re ready to hear it.
“I moved on, Hardin. I picked myself up after you broke me and I moved on. You can’t just come here and say things like that unless-”
“Unless?” The hope in his voice is evident.
“Unless you mean it.” You’re angry and hurt, but Hardin was the one person you thought you were going to spend the rest of your live with. And now he’s standing in front of you saying everything you’ve wanted to hear for the last couple of months. Your pride wants you to yell at him and tell him to go, but your heart is not ready for that yet.
“Of course I mean it. I wouldn’t be here, if I didn’t mean it. I messed up. I got complacent and I forgot how good you and I work.” He’s mere inches away from you and you’ve forgotten how to breathe. He’s all you see and he’s all you feel as he wraps his arms around your waist and pulls you close.
“Kiss me.” His eyes have gotten ten times darker. So you kiss him and it’s like breaking through the water surface. Like the world had lost all its colour, but now you see them again.
“I missed your lips,” he gasps as if trying to inhale all of you in one breath. You kiss him again having completely forgotten everything else.
“So this is it, right? You pick me. You’re done with Tessa?” You have to hear it. You have to hear him say that this is the part where he chooses you.
“I’ll tell her as soon as I get back,” he replies not even realising the reaction his words create in your mind. He hasn’t broken things off with her before coming. He kept her as a backup plan in case you said no. If he truly wanted you, it wouldn’t have mattered if you said yes or no. He should’ve ended things with Tessa before coming here. Suddenly, the colour fades and you’re back to normal. In horror you remember Trevor, who’ll be here any minute now. How could you do this to him?
“I want you to go, Hardin.” It feels good to say. Like a sort of closure you never got.
“What? Baby, I’ll take care of everything when we get back home. We can go back to how things were before.” The change in your mood hasn’t registered with him yet.
“I want you to walk out that door and never come back.” You say it slowly, tasting every word as they pass your lips. There’s a liberating feeling in finally being done with Hardin. You needed this last thing before you could truly let him go. You’ve held onto him for far too long and he’s done nothing but pull away. The two of you are not the people you were, when you first got together.
“Don’t say that. Baby-”
“I’m not your baby anymore, Hardin. I’m not yours anymore. You couldn’t even finish things with Tessa before coming here. You didn’t believe enough in our love to risk being alone rather than being with the wrong person. I need someone who’s sure of me and who’ll never hurt me the way you do repeatedly.” With his perfect timing this is the moment Trevor walks through the door.
“Ready for lunch?” He looks up to notice Hardin visibly distraught and you tense and uncomfortable. “Is everything okay?”
“Who is this?” Hardin asks as if Trevor didn’t say anything.
“This is Trevor. We had plans to go for lunch, so I really need you to leave now.” You don’t want him to cause a scene, but you know Hardin so your hope is pointless.
“Fucking Trevor! Is he the reason you don’t want me anymore?!” He’s yelling and you’re horrified by what your colleagues out in the hall thinks.
“Buddy, I think she asked you to leave,” Trevor says calmly putting his hand on Hardin’s arm. It’s the wrong thing to do when dealing with Hardin.
“Please don’t,” you say noticing his clenched fist. He knows what you’re asking but it’s not in his nature to respond in any other way than violence.
“Don’t make me call security,” Trevor says sensing what’s about to happen too. The threat of security seems to wake Hardin up. He rips free his arm from Trevor’s grip and turns to me.
“If I leave now, I’m not coming back, you hear me. If I walk, I’m done with your ass.”
“Fine.” Four letters, one word, a thousand hidden goodbyes. He walks out the door leaving you and Trevor alone.
“Friend of yours?” he asks breaking the silence.
“Ex actually. I’m sorry you got involved in that kind of drama,” you reply hiding your face in your hands.
“Hey, look at me,” he pleads slowly removing your hands, “let’s talk about it over lunch.” And you do. You tell him all about Hardin and the years you’ve spent with him. In the spirit of complete honesty, you tell him about the kiss in the office and your brief moment of misjudgment. You tell him that there was a time when you thought Hardin was the one you’d spent the rest of your life with but now you don’t feel that way anymore. Everything gets laid out on the table because you’re tired of drama and secrets and if things are ever going to work between you and Trevor, you need to play with open cards from the beginning.
“That’s a lot to take in,” Trevor says when you’re finally done speaking.
“I understand if you never want to talk to me again. But I just want you to know that I’ve really enjoyed getting to know you.”
“Well, there’s much more to tell so you’re not done yet.” He smiles warming your heart.
“Just promise you won’t be kissing anymore ex boyfriends, yeah?”
“I promise not to kiss anyone who isn’t you.”
“Good.” He leans in and kisses you softly. You don’t know why he forgives you or why he gives you a second chance, but you’ll be forever thankful that he does.

Bree, Thank you so much for this GENIUS round! A trip down the memory lane, when they just began falling for each other, it was such a beautiful and painful time for them as well as for me. I had a blast, and even though these answers are a pure mess, I had way too much fun answering them. Hope you like them too❤️!
The setting for this answers is: A week and a half after Ethan leaves the Hospital. Land(rat)ry and has been exposed, but Ethan doesn't know about that yet. Also, this is pre-chapter 15.
For Both
When I first saw them, I thought__________
Pooja: Who goes first?
(Silence)
Pooja:...Fine. I'll go first. The first time, all I could notice was his Doctor's Coat and the stern expression that he carried. It was my first day, I was running late, I had a patient who had collapsed in front of me. So obviously I was a bundle of nerves. And seeing a very strict attending really did not help. I was freaking out and kept repeating "Concentrate, Pooja, Concentrate" in my head.
Ethan: So when you saw me, you freaked out?
Pooja: Quite obviously so.
(After a pause) What did you think I would have thought? That you were handsome? (winks)
Ethan: (Caught by surprise) I- Uh- That's not...
(Centers himself with a deep breath) That would have been highly inappropriate.
Pooja: (Smiles in Satisfaction) Your turn, Doc. Or maybe, Ex-Doc, Right?
Ethan: (Ignoring her) I thought you were amateur. Better than most interns on their first days but still, slow and confused.
Pooja: And hence can the nickname "Rookie"?
Ethan: Yes, hence Rookie.
What is your coworker's most used swear word?
Ethan: I haven't heard her swear a lot, but the times I have, it's always either "Shit" or "Fuck".
Pooja: For him, it's mostly "Godammit" and on rare occasions, "Fuck". If he uses "Fuck" for an occasion, you know it's serious.
Quick: What color are their eyes?
(In unison, without missing a beat)
Pooja: Ice Blue
Ethan: Amber
(Ethan stares at Pooja, bewildered)
Pooja: What? (With a faux expression of sadness) Are you surprised that my observation skills actually exist?
Ethan: (He seems to regret his expression and tries straightens himself quickly) No, Of Course Not, I do not doubt your skills. (He smiles, but the surprise never leaves his features) It's just that no one ever-
(He looks at her, holding her gaze. They both seem unable look away... Until Ethan breaks eye contact and they concentrate back on the questions)
Three people at work your coworker hates?
Pooja: Can I name three people he doesn't hate? Possibly even that would be a large count.
Ethan: I don't hate anyone.
Pooja: Yaa, I know. You don't care about them enough to even have an opinion about them. Which is even worse than hatred, actually.
Ethan: (Rolls his eyes, but doesn't quite disagree) Dr Sharma and Hatred, on the other hand, is a combination I never have had the opportunity to observe.
Pooja: (A frown appears on her forehead and her jaw clenches tightly. She looks down, trying to control anger coursing through her body)
Ethan: (Looks at her with an eyebrow raised) Am I missing out on something?
Pooja: (Tries her best to keep her voice calm) Nope, nothing.
(Ethan notices that something is wrong, but decides not to push her further)
What is your coworker’s strangest or most endearing quirk?
Ethan: Dr Sharma, has a peculiar habit of always humming a song whenever she is writing or typing something. And every time, it's something different. I don't know about endearing, but it's definitely annoying.
Pooja: Please, you should be grateful that you have a walking, talking Spotify who supplies you with new music ad free and you don't even have to pay for premium.
Ethan: You think that you are hilarious, don't you?
Pooja: Oh, I AM hilarious (Rolls her eyes)
Ethan: (Laughs) You said that with an eye roll.
Pooja: And you laughed. So, Point Proved.
Ethan: (Shakes his head with the smile still on face)
Pooja: As for Dr Ramsey, whenever he has to deal with interns, he pulls out all the sarcasm he has, murmurs "Interns" with an annoyed sigh every time one of them begin to speak, and his intensity of rolling eyes increases by at least ten times. (Turning to Ethan) How did you like my description?
E: (Rolls his eyes) Accurate.
If they had a crush on anyone at work, who would that be?
Ethan: (Scoffs) Crushes... Juvenility at its best.
Pooja: (Opens her mouth to speak)
Ethan: Are you really going to answer the question? Because I am not.
Pooja: You do you and I do I.
(Begins to speak) I think Dr Ramsey has a crush on... (her voice cracks, and a sudden sadness overcome her once happy features. She is unable to complete the sentence and Ethan is unable to look at her)
Ethan: (After a long moment of silence, still not looking at Pooja) Can we please go to the next question?
Never have I Ever:
On the announcement of this round, Pooja brightens up a bit.
Never have I evers have always been one of her favourite games, so there was not a chance in hell she was going to skip the chance of learning about Ethan's secrets.
She turns to Ethan, who's turns to her and raises and eyebrow. His confused face is a precious scene and she cannot help but let out a giggle at it.
Ethan: And what is this now?
Pooja: I was going to ask if you have never watched those celebrity interviews but (she giggles) you and those, don't go together. At all
Ethan: Why would anyone want to answer stupid questions? And Why would someone want to watch them answer those?
Pooja: Because it's fun Dr Terminator. There is fun hidden in stupid things as such.
Ethan: (doesn't speak anything, but gives a small smile while thinking about her words)
Pooja: (takes the smile as a sign) So you are ready.
Ethan: When did I say so?
Pooja: You don't need to word your thoughts for me to know (gives him a smile)
(They hold each other's gaze for a while before Ethan coughs and turn away)
Pooja: (A tinge of sadness in her tone) Okay (coughs) So usually Never have I ever is a drinking game-
Ethan: A drinking game during office hours? (Raises an eyebrow)
Pooja: Says someone who doesn't even work at the office. (She looks at him once before continuing) But we are going to change it up a bit. Sienna, my friend has baked cupcakes today, so I thought why not use them instead? If the answer is yes, they don't get to take a bite from the cupcake. I it's no, then-
Ethan: You get a bite. You will always look for excuses to eat the pastries, won't you?
Pooja: See, you know me well.
(For a while, it seems as if Ethan regrets his statement, but soon he schools his features and any such indication is gone)
come into work hungover
Both Ethan & Pooja sit still, cupcakes intact.
Pooja: (Looks at him, amazed)
Ethan: (Raises an eyebrow)
Pooja: And here I was expecting a sarcastic remark about professionalism.
Ethan: We all have our days, Dr Sharma. Today's yours.
Pooja: It sure is (winks)
had a fistfight
Again, both of them sit still, no one making a move towards their cupcakes.
Pooja: But, it was back in high school, so...
(She moves to take a bite, when)
Ethan: Hey!
Pooja: What?
Ethan: You made the rules but that does not give you an allowance to break the rules.
Pooja: Look at you, getting all competitive over Never have I ever.
Ethan: Absolutely Not. I was just ensuring that the rules are being followed.
Pooja: Suure.
been kicked out of a bar
Both of them take a bite.
Pooja: Finally!
Ethan: (Rolls his eyes while trying to suppress a smile at the site of her getting all excited for a cupcake)
gotten a tattoo
Ethan takes a bite.
Pooja: I think you need to get one.
Ethan: Absolutely not.
Pooja: Don't worry I will let your significant other whenever they arrive, know that they have to make you get one.
(Even if said jokingly, the sentence fills the air with suffocating silence, that is only broken when the next question is asked)
broken someone’s heart
Pooja takes a bite. Ethan looks on.
Pooja: Dr Ramsey?
Ethan: Huh?
Pooja: Aren't you going to take a bite?
Ethan: (after a while) ...No. I am Not.
been in love
(Ethan goes to take a bite, just as...)
Pooja: Dr Ramsey?
Ethan: What is it?
Pooja: Look, I know it's against the rules, but can I pleaseee take a bite from your side?
Ethan: And why would I let you do that?
Pooja: Because A. You know I love cupcakes, B. You are my friend and C. Because I am asking you super sweetly. So, pleeaase? (She looks at him with puppy eyes)
Ethan: (After a momentary pause) ...Fine
Pooja: Thank you Dr Ramsey, You're the best Dr Ramsey-
Ethan: Do you stop or do I have to get a remote to shut you up?
(Pooja laughs, having succeeded in her mission. And before Ethan can stop himself, a smile breaks out on his face as well)
For MC (Ethan is not there)
Where do you see him in five years (both professionally and in his personal life?)
Professionally I see him coming back to medicine. Maybe Soon, Maybe Later. But I cannot imagine him living the rest of his life away from medicine. This is where he finds his calm. Amidst complex cases that challenge his genius. I also visualize him working on another book, or assisting WHO with its endeavors.
Personally (She pauses, takes a deep breath, and another, and another) I, uh... see him happy. Most probably not married, but in a relationship full of care and satisfaction. He may even start believing in love (laughs) I can't predict the future, but I hope that he finds someone worthy of him. Someone whom he can love without having to constantly worry of a mishap, without questioning all his principles, without retching a battle in his mind. Someone... who can return his care and affection in ten folds (a tear escapes out of the corner of her eye, but she wipes it off as quickly as she can)
What do you find the most impressive about him?
Impressive about him? Everything. But especially the kind of doctor he is. For someone who's so genius, it is commonly thought that he would look down on others, berate others on the basis of his excellence and his achievements, be arrogant and rude. But, he is an entire opposite.
Humble, caring, compassionate. Yes, maybe he gives interns an earful from time to time, but he never demotivates them. He is a great teacher, one who knows to keep his feelings apart from his work. To him everyone is equal, even if people suspect him of favoritism. His care and concern for his patients, it's an inspiration for me.
Last thing he texted you?
I...haven't really got any recent texts (or replies, she mumbles) from him. The last one he sent was the day we got back from Miami after the medical conference, which says, "Let me know when you get home safe, okay?"
If he asked you out on a date, what would you say?
(A small, humorless laugh) He wouldn't ask me out. Definitely not in this life. I am sure he regrets what happened- (Sighs)
I am too complicated of a case for him to pursue.
But, if, in a hypothetical, like, really hypothetical situation, he did ask me, I would say yes. In a heartbeat, to be exact.
For Ethan (MC is not there)
Where do you see her in five years (both professionally and in her personal life?)
Rookie, I mean Dr Sharma, has impeccable talent. And she has more than proved herself during the time I was at the hospital. If she strives hard, and keeps up her hard work, I am sure she can achieve all she wants to. Maybe even restart the Diagnostics Team as a leader. I know she has a bright career in front of her, and as her mentor, I will help her achieve it in every way I can.
Bree: And personally?
Uh... Happy. She will definitely be happy, with someone who can make her smile her dazzling smile, who can give her the best life she deserves, and stand with her through thick and thin. Someone who doesn't break her heart due to their own... flaws. Someone,
Someone who can love her.
What specifically do you find attractive about her?
Ethan: Attractive? She is my intern, why would you expect me to make a statement as such?
Bree: So you don't think she is attractive?
Ethan: Of course I do. She has a sparkle in her eyes, the passion for medicine evident. The way she smiles when she talks to patients, the way she reassures them, how-
(He stops on his track. Regrets his words. Pinching the bridge of his nose he signals to go onto the next question)
Last thing she texted you?
"You know you can just tell me if you don't want me to text you. It would hurt, but this silence, the feeling of shouting into a void, it hurts more."
(He doesn't expand on it. Just sits for a while, looking at the cell phone, before turning it off and placing it aside)
If she asked you out on a date, how would you respond?
Ethan: She Wouldn't... Not after what I- (he sighs)
Maybe in another life, if I am lucky enough, I would say yes. But now....
It's a risk. And I can say from experience that it would not end well. The harm it may cause, the hurt I may cause...
She doesn't deserve it.
Bree: But there are no more professional complications now that you have quit, Dr Ramsey. Then why do you feel as such?
Ethan: It's about personal complications.

I have something to say.
And some people might not like it but whatever. I was scrolling through Pinterest and found this.
Tumblr media
Here's the article link if you want to read it.
It's true. They're right. We need a break.
For context: I'm a middle schooler in her early teens, American. Public school my entire life. LGBTQIA+; Anxiety; ADHD; Social Anxiety; and a very bad understanding of social cues sometimes. I'm 2e (Or 'Twice-Exceptional), meaning I'm academically gifted but also have what qualifies as a learning disorder (ADHD). I'm a nerd and don't fit society's definition of normal.
When I was in kindergarten I loved it. Patterns? Easy. Red, Blue, Red, Blue. Writing letters? Sure my handwriting sucked but I understood it. Making clay snowmen in Art class? Fun as hell. Library? The best thing ever. Teacher? She was incredible. Other kids? Yeah, I was social. Foreign concept to me now but I was friends with almost everyone.
But you know what I miss the most?
Naptime.
An hour or so after lunch where you could sit on the floor, with a blanket, and relax. I never actually slept but gods, I got scolded so many times for whispering with the person next to me. I didn't get stressed then. I loved school back then.
First grade? I had mixed feelings. Lot of issues from then.
Second? Enh. Okay- Ish.
Third? If I hadn't had the teacher I had I would not be as okay as I am now.
In 3rd me and my parents looked at a private school. All girls, the entry test thing was amazing. I went there for a visit and there were people skipping- SKIPPING!- because they were happy with their education. But it was an hour away from us and we needed financial assistance. If it had been one or the other I would have gone there in a heartbeat. I loved it.
Fourth? PSSAs are hell, my best friend is on the other side of the school district in a different elementary school because her parents divorced, and I'm stuck with her cousin that doesn't really like me (The feeling was mutual), so I spend the entire year alone because I only ever had two friends. I also had two 15 minitue recesses and that was barely enough to keep me sane but at the same time too much time that made my loneliness even more visible.
Fifth? Ten minutes of break the entire day. Lunch was 30 minutes. The wait in the lunch line was between 5-15 (ish) minutes. My family thinks I eat too fast. I don't. Not for that. I don't have many memories of that year. I repressed them because I was bullied horribly the entire year. It's the first and only time I've ever cried in school. That summer was the last time I cried. I haven't cried in two years. I've repressed the memories to the point that I don't know if it was actually me doing the bullying or if it was her. That's how messed up my brain is. My few memories say it was her bullying me but I don't know. I really don't.
Jean? And her cousin? I didn't really fit with them anymore, but I stayed with them because I had no one else. I should have left. Made friends with Scott or someone else who understood me slightly. yes, I had my parents, but I just never told them because they were already so stressed about other shit. I didn't tell any teachers; they didn't know until it ended in a shouting match in the very beginning of my (tail end of her's) math class. I think my ELA teacher knew though. Or suspected, at least. He never gave me points for reading in class. For a year (two) my only support system was books and I had no actual friends. I didn't have any actual friends until I moved and now I have one.
Sixth? The same (Minus part of the bullying, she wasn't in my classes, mostly), except a pandemic halfway through. I sat with people I barely knew who really didn't get me at all at lunch because I was terrified of being alone, of any potential for being seen as a target ever again. I still am.
Seventh? I moved. No Gifted Program. Middle of a Pandemic. Get back to me in a month, when it's over.
My point is that I grew up too fast. I lost my childhood. I have more of the symptoms of a emotional abuse survivor than I should. I'm not comparing myself to those people; I'm not saying what happened to me is anything like whatever happened to them.
I'm just saying that I went through what, to me, was hell and some of it could have been avoided if I had had the social-emotional learning skills to make a friend.
If school had taught me what it should have maybe I wouldn't be so broken now.
If school had given breaks and less homework maybe I wouldn't be so stressed now.
If I had a chance to breathe in those years maybe I would be different now.
I can't remember the last time I was properly relaxed. The closest I get is when I'm writing; when I'm crafting a story that's all my own.
I don't really know where I'm going with this post. I'm not even sure why I wrote it. But...
I just needed to tell someone and if they- if you ignore me I'll never know.
I don't know if I was the villian. I don't know if I was the victim. All I know is I am broken; touch starved; blaming myself for everything bad that ever happened to me; and I really, really want to cry but I can't.
Sorry its so long and doesn't really connect to the picture at all.
Thank you, if you're still here.

Baby Bird
𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐈𝐈𝐈 𝐱 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫
Request: i kinda had this idea for a warren x reader and if you were intrested or had time i’d be very appreciative 👉👈. (warren has his apocalypse wings) so the reader is a new student she’s very like shy and timid but very sweet and her only friend is jean, she just like refuses to converse with others. and her gift is her wings and they’re exactly like warren’s except black (kinda like he was the bad boy with white angel wings and she’s the good girl with black wings, sorry i love opposites 😂) and be just hates her because it’s a reminder of his old wings and mistakes. fast forward to like a day at school or party someone is messing with r because she never shows off her wings and then like push her or something and jean freaks out and tells warren r doesn’t know how to use her wings (super sad childhood with very anti-mutant parents) so then warren saves her and they talk more and get closer.
A/N: this is so late! I am so sorry! But I am finally getting around to all my requests and this wasn’t in my ask box so it got kind of lost and I forgot about it for a hot minute! I hope you enjoy it though! 🥺💛
Word Count: 3.6k
Warnings: underage drinking, teasing, anxiety, and mentions of poor home life
Tumblr media
“Your grades are phenomenal, yet your class participation is lacking.” (Y/N) picked at her nails, looking down. Xavier called her into his office to “discuss her grades” but she knew that was the last thing on his mind. “I don’t want to push you into anything you’re not comfortable with, but at some point, everyone has to socialize.”
Her head shot up, “I do! I do socialize.”
Sure, she ate lunch alone under the trees, would rather be alone than have a partner for class projects, and she didn’t have many friends— but she was new! Being the new kid was hard. Not to mention her parents were more than thrilled to get rid of her and her wings.
Her big, black, feathery wings, that she didn’t even know how to use! She hid them under baggy sweaters, no matter the weather.
Xavier gave her a look, “You don’t have any friends and you hide your beautiful wings.”
“Dr. McCoy and Mystique hide their true selves… and if Kurt had the chance he’d want to look normal too.” Charles sighed. “Look, um, Professor, I do— I do have friends.”
“Who?”
“Jean Grey.”
Saying Jean was her friend wasn’t a lie— however, Jean was her only friend. (Y/N) didn’t like to talk, and Jean read minds— easy friendship right there.
Jean had other friends and even a boyfriend. (Y/N) felt like she weighed her down or was charity work, but Jean always said otherwise.
Sometimes (Y/N) would sit with Jean and her friends. They were all kind and welcoming, despite her not saying anything. The only one who seemed standoff-ish was Warren.
Warren was tall and extremely handsome. Jean had teased (Y/N) for losing her train of thought more than once for looking at Warren and thinking he was pretty.
He had these huge metal wings and tattoos on his face. (Y/N) thought they could possibly be friends, mostly because they both had wings, but that didn’t go so well…
The one day (Y/N) wore a t-shirt, with holes in the back so she could flaunt her wings, everyone looked at her. She didn’t like the attention, but she couldn’t blame them for staring.
Jean’s friends showered her with a mixture of surprise and compliments with her wings.
“Can I touch them?” Peter asked. (Y/N) nodded, making eye contact with Warren for a moment.
He rolled his eyes and scoffed. (Y/N) quickly looked away and frowned. Everyone liked her except for Warren.
Was he the honest one of the group though? What if all of Jean’s friends actually hated (Y/N)? What if they just put up with her because Jean made them? She was sure Scott didn’t like her much either, even if he never showed it. He was dating Jean and her friendship with (Y/N) probably cut into their time… Oh, God… They just think my wings are neat and soon as I stop showing them they’ll get bored of me…
Warren was glaring at something, and then he got up as left. Just like that!
“Is he okay?” (Y/N) asked Jean.
“He’s just being dumb. You know how boys are.” (Y/N) nodded, but she was pretty sure Warren wasn’t just “being dumb”. He probably hated her.
It was finally the weekend, and (Y/N) was hunched over her books on a Friday night. Normal for her, as Jean and her friends usually went out somewhere.
A knock at her door interrupted her work time, and she opened it to find Jean and Jubilee standing in the doorway. Jubilee was bouncing and had a bag in her arms.
(Y/N) let them in. Jubilee set the bag on the floor and started going through it— it was full of makeup and hair stuff. “What’s going on?”
“We’re going to a party tonight, and you’re coming with us.”
(Y/N) glanced over to her work pile, “But I’ve got a paper due—”
“Two weeks from now. I have the same class.” Jubilee answered.
“Jean…” She whined.
“One night out won’t kill you. Neither will a little makeup and a cute outfit.”
“What?”
“Here, put this on.”
She examined the lump of fabric in her hands.
It was a dress.
“People will see my wings!”
“Yeah, that’s like the whole point,” Jubilee said.
(Y/N) sighed and slipped off her sweater, putting the dress on in its place.
“You look so pretty!” Jubilee cooed.
“Thanks.” (Y/N)’s immediate reaction was to fold her wings in tightly to her back, so they weren’t visible from the front.
“Relax,” Jean told her, soon as she noticed what (Y/N) was doing. Jubilee signaled her to sit down on the floor next to her, amidst a hundred different makeup products.
“I’m just gonna do some light, subtle makeup. Enough to enhance your features.”
“Thanks?...” The brush tickled (Y/N)’s skin, making her nose scrunch up.
“Relax your face. This doesn’t hurt.”
“Sorry. Sorry…”
“It’s okay.”
Everyone somehow managed to fit in one car— except for Kurt and Peter, they were racing to see who could get to the party first— Jean and Scott in the front, Warren, Jubilee, Ororo, and (Y/N) in the back.
(Y/N) couldn’t help but notice Warren looked a little flushed, “Is Warren okay?”
“Yeah, why?” Jean asked.
“His face is flushed. Is he just like, hot or something?”
“Or something…” Jean smiled, trying to act nonchalant. (Y/N) gave her a deadpan look through the rearview mirror. “I can’t tell you, but he’s fine.”
“You okay, (Y/N)?” Scott asked, looking back at her through the rearview mirror.
“Yeah.”
Scott nodded awkwardly.
Once parked, everyone quickly tumbled out of the car. Music could be heard from the inside. It was loud.
“I want to go home.”
“(Y/N) we just got here— dance with Jubilee or go sit outside with Ororo and Warren.”
“Warren doesn’t like me.”
“Not true… He’s just quiet.”
(Y/N) started to retaliate but Jean walked into the kitchen with Scott, and (Y/N) tried to not interrupt her time with her boyfriend, so she shut up.
Peter was playing beer pong with some kids. Jubilee and Kurt were dancing and both had cups in their hands. There was some wanna-be punk band playing.
(Y/N) decided to join them.
“Hey, (Y/N)!”
She waved her hand.
“You look nice,” Kurt said.
“Thanks.”
“I did her makeup,” Jubilee bragged.
Kurt giggled slightly, “Nice.”
The band was mostly playing covers, but they were pretty good. (Y/N) was letting loose and dancing along with Jubilee and Kurt.
I'm burnin' through the sky, yeah!
Two hundred degrees, that's why they call me Mister Fahrenheit…
I'm traveling at the speed of light.
I wanna make a supersonic woman of you!
(Y/N) accidentally hit Jubilee with her wings. “I’m so sorry!”
“It’s fine! They’re soft anyways.”
Don't stop me, don't stop me, don’t stop me. Hey, hey, hey!
Don't stop me, don't stop me, ooh, ooh, ooh…
(Y/N) was actually enjoying herself. She was dancing and chanting incoherently along with the lyrics. She almost felt free.
The last time she had felt like this was as a child. Before her wings grew in. Before her parents deemed her a monster who had to hide. Before she lost everything she had. Before she decided to speak less was better for her.
She didn’t even think about any of it. She didn’t even think about how Jean was probably making out with Scott in a bathroom, or how Warren had been acting. She was having fun, and that was the only thing that mattered to her.
At some point during the night, (Y/N), slightly tipsy, made it up onto the roof with a few other kids. Everything was fine at first, but they were way too drunk.
“Why don’t you jump off the edge?” One of them asked.
What?”
“Fly off the edge, birdie!” The other laughed. “Jump! Jump!”
“Jump! Jump!”
In the rooftop kids efforts to get (Y/N) to jump, people on the ground started chanting too.
“What’s going on?” Warren asked. Jubilee shrugged.
(Y/N) was terrified, wings folded in tightly to her back.
Jean came running up to Warren, “(Y/N) can’t fly! She can’t hear me either, she’s too nervous, lost in her own thoughts.”
Warren wanted to ask what he could possibly do, but he never got the chance.
(Y/N) fell off the roof.
Or maybe she was pushed off. Either way, it didn’t matter because she was screaming and falling and no one was doing anything.
Warren bolted and flew up so he could catch her in his arms. She looked so weak and tired in his arms. She was crying and his heart dropped seeing her like that.
Warren carefully brought her to the ground, making sure she could walk on her own. “Come here,” He gave her his jacket and wrapped an arm around her, letting her cry into his chest.
“I hated that—” She sniffled, “—I’m never doing it again.” Warren nodded understandingly, holding her close to his side.
“Let’s go home, okay?” (Y/N) nodded, still in a state of shock.
The halls of the mansion were like a ghost town, everyone was either out, asleep, or couped up in one of the many rooms. Warren and (Y/N) were alone as they walked up to her room.
“Why did you save me?”
Warren blinked, looking at (Y/N). She rarely spoke to or around him.
“Jean said you couldn’t fly.”
“Oh…” She avoided Warren’s eyes in embarrassment. So Jean told him to save me because I’m useless. Of course…
“You could have died, falling from that high up,” Warren’s voice was stern, but he wasn’t angry.
“Sorry…” She mumbled.
Warren furrowed his brows, “Sorry? What are you sorry for?”
“I inconvenienced you…”
“What? No!” He stopped to stand face to face, holding one of (Y/N)’s hands. “You could never.”
(Y/N) felt fuzzy inside. Was she getting sick? Was she allergic to Warren? Why is he so nice? Why am I so nervous?
“I’d do the same for anyone.”
Oh. Yeah, no, he doesn’t really like me… nobody does…  “Right.”
Warren noticed her mood change, but he didn’t call her out for it.
“I’m gonna go to bed. Thanks for bringing me home…”
“Of course…” He coughed for a moment, clearing his throat. “If you need anything, um, my room isn’t that far—”
“Thanks, Warren.” She forced a smile. “Good night.”
 “Good night.”
Warren slipped off his t-shirt, discarding it on his desk chair. He laid in bed, thinking about (Y/N).
What if he hadn’t caught her in time?
He shook the thought away as he tossed in bed, slowly falling asleep.
Warren didn’t hate (Y/N). He just hated her wings… they reminded him of his old wings. The one thing he wanted most in life… his new ones were a constant reminder of his past mistakes, they were the wings of a monster.
But Warren had changed, or so he thought. He hated seeing (Y/N)’s wings, despite them rarely being out. He was jealous and angry. Mostly at himself.
But (Y/N) didn’t know how to use her wings…
That was strange to Warren. Maybe there was more to her than he thought.
(Y/N) awoke to a knock on her door.
“Hggggg… Just give me a minute.” She groaned. She rolled out of bed and opened the door.
“Jean? What are you doing here?”
“I wanted to make sure you were okay! We got back late and Warren said you were already asleep.”
“Oh… Well, I’m fine.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah.”
“Okay… Do you wanna come down for breakfast?”
(Y/N) glanced at her pajamas. “Can I get changed first?...”
“You look fine! Most of the group is still in their pj’s anyway.”
“Okay.”
Jean led (Y/N) down the hall to the kitchen where her friends were. Most of them were chatting amongst themselves or shoving food into their mouths.
“Hangovers?” She asked.
“Yeah some, I’m surprised you don’t have one.”
“I never said I didn’t.” (Y/N) got herself a cup and a plate, taking some of the food and drink available.
“(Y/N), are you okay from last night?” Jubilee asked.
She nodded.
Peter let out a breath, “Thank God. Xavier would have killed us if you’d gotten hurt.” (Y/N) nodded again, trying to just focus on the food on her plate.
“You’re lucky Warren was there to catch you,” Scott stated.
“Yep.”
“Is everyone going to keep talking about last night?” She asked herself.
“Probably. You could have broken your legs, or sprained an ankle— plus people like to talk.”
“Gossip, you mean gossip.”
Jean didn’t respond, she was too focused on whatever Scott was saying. (Y/N) rolled her eyes.
Typical.
Warren trudged into the kitchen— his curls tangled, wings almost dragging against the floor, and he wore the world’s most wrinkled t-shirt— he looked like he didn't want to be there.
He opened up a cabinet and took out a mug. He closed the cabinet door and moved over near the coffee pot on the counter. He took it and poured plain, black, coffee into his mug.
Then he took a sip straight from the mug.
“There is creamer and milk in the fridge,” (Y/N) reminded him.
“I know.”
“Oh.”
(Y/N) focused on her plate again, trying to pretend the awkward interaction didn’t happen.
“Hey, uh, I was wondering—“ (Y/N) quickly looked up at Warren as he spoke. “I could like, help you learn to fly.”
“Um…”
“No one would see us. If you’re worried about that.”
“Oh my god! You should say yes!” (Y/N) quickly twisted her head over at Jean and almost gave her the finger, but Scott was watching. So she just glared.
She didn’t want Jean in her head all the time. Especially at a time like this.
She looked back at Warren, “Sure. I have nothing else to do.”
“Cool. I have some stuff to do, but I’ll get you in a few hours.”
(Y/N) nodded, “Sounds good.”
(Y/N) looked through her closet, trying to find something she could wear to fly in. Most of her tops weren’t exactly wing friendly. She sighed.
She didn’t even want to do this— she just wanted to hide her wings forever and move on from last night.
No. No, that wasn’t true in the slightest.
She needed to learn to use her wings, they were a part of her, whether she liked it or not. She had her old life ripped away from her in exchange for the big black heaps of feathers on her back, weighing her down every day. She had to embrace them somehow. They were all she had.
That and Jean… sometimes. And eventually, she’d have to leave the nest and talk to other people.
Warren knocked on her door. (Y/N) glanced at her reflection— she still had her pajamas on!
He knocked again, “(Y/N)? It’s me.”
“Sorry! Give me a sec!” (Y/N) hurried and shut her closet, then opening her door to let Warren in. “Sorry about that.”
“It’s fine, are you—“ He glanced at her clothes. (Y/N) instantly tensed up, insecure by his gaze. “Why are you still in your pajamas?”
“Uh… I don’t really have anything good for flying—“
“Just wear some shorts and a shirt with holes in the back. Nothing fancy.”
“You don’t understand, I have one shirt with holes in the back, and it’s in the laundry.”
“You sleep with your wings tucked in?” Warren gawked.
“Sometimes.” She defended.
Warren glanced at something shiny in the corner of his eye. “Grab a shirt you don’t care about.”
“Okay…” (Y/N) grabbed an old Xavier’s school tee.
“Give it to me.” She handed it to Warren. He took the scissors from her desk and quickly cut slits in the back of the t-shirt. “There. Now you have something to wear.”
She just stared at Warren.
“Are you gonna put it on or?...”
“Can you step out of the room then?”
Warren’s eyes widened in realization on what he’d set himself up for. “Right! Right, um, do you need any help getting your wings through the holes?”
“If I do, I’ll ask. Now leave so I can get dressed.”
“Yeah, right, right.” Warren quickly stepped out into the hall, shutting the door behind him.
(Y/N) huffed and slipped her large nightshirt off, throwing it on her bed. She grabbed the shirt Warren cut up and put it on without a second thought.
Head pops out through the first hole.
The arms go through the sleeves.
The shirt slips down and covers the chest and torso.
But the wing holes were new. (Y/N) tried to push one of her wings out but she struggled. It took her a bit of reaching back with her hands to spread the fabric a bit so she had more space before she could get it through the slit.
The second wing she had more trouble with.
(Y/N) couldn’t reach her arms back as easily to spread out the slit. And her whole wing wouldn’t go through since it wasn’t the loosest of shirts.
(Y/N) opened her door and peeked her head out. “Hey, I need some help…”
Warren perked up a little, following (Y/N) into her room.
“Just like, hold the two sides of the slit out, and then I can get my wing through.”
Warren did as she asked.
“We’re they too small?”
“A little, but also this isn’t baggy like most of my clothes, so…”
“I can make the holes bigger if you want.”
She dismissed him, “It’s fine. I’ll do it later.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah, I already wasted enough time getting ready. We should go out.”
Warren nodded, “Yeah. We’re gonna be out for a while.”
They were standing on the roof of Xavier’s, looking out onto the grassy campus.
“So, uh, flying once you get the hang of it, is like a reflex almost… But uh basically, you just need to flap your wings, so you keep yourself afloat of sorts. Does that make sense?”
“Kind of.”
“Okay, um, just like, run off the edge—”
“Runoff the edge?!” (Y/N) asked, terrified of falling to her death. Scared of having a repeat of the night before.
“Just flap your wings, and if you mess up I’ll catch you.”
(Y/N) stood at the edge, peering down at the ground below. “Are you sure?”
“Maybe back up a bit, get like a running start first.”
(Y/N) did as he suggested, running off the edge. When her feet left the roof, she tried to flap her wings as Warren had told her.
She felt herself flying like a wonky baby bird. Somewhat lopsided with each flap, but she was doing it!
“Oh my gosh! Warren! Warren I’m doing it!”
She could see Warren still on the roof. He gave her a thumbs up and some encouraging cheers.
(Y/N) smiled, struggling to fly, but flying nonetheless. She looked down for a moment, and then suddenly realized she was many feet above the ground, in the air. (Y/N) panicked, and stopped flapping her wings for a moment, before she started to fall.
“Shit!” Warren flew off the roof to save (Y/N).
But it was a false alarm, for, by the time Warren was about to catch (Y/N), she’d regained herself and was no longer falling to the ground.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah, yeah. Um, it’s just really high up, I’m scared of falling again, like at the party.”
“Hey, hey, relax, don’t focus on the ground or your wings. Just— focus on me, okay?”
She looked at his face— his blue eyes, his plush pink lips, the dark lines adorned all over his face, and how he had a few untamable, blonde curls that framed his face— she looked at Warren’s wings and tried to copy how his fluttered and kept him aflight.
“You’re doing it!” He told her.
“Really?” (Y/N) was almost in disbelief.
“Yeah, you’re doing great!”
(Y/N) looked at her wings, realizing what she was doing. She was worried she’d fall, but it never happened.
“I’ll race you to the mansion next door.”
“Next door? That’s like several acres.” Warren gave her a knowing look, and then it all clicked. “Oh! Oh, you’re so on!”
Warren laughed and they both flew off at high speed, away from school.
They got back to the mansion after sunset, both giggling and playfully fighting about who won the race.
“I think I won—”
“Oh, yes, beginner’s luck, Baby Bird.”
She raises her eyebrows and points at him, “Aha! So you admit I won.”
“I may have let you…”
(Y/N) scoffed, “Yeah, right.”
“Yeah, you got me. I wouldn’t go too easy on you.” Warren was headed for the kitchen, but (Y/N) was going in the opposite direction.
“I was gonna get a bite to eat. Wanna join me?”
“Um, I was going to shower first…”
“Oh… I’ll see you later then?”
(Y/N) was suddenly very awkward and nervous, “Um, yeah! Pfft, of course, uh— yeah. Yeah!”
“Great!” Warren was also suddenly somewhat nervous.
“Great!”
The two were on their separate paths, before (Y/N) turned back for a moment.
“You good?” Warren asked.
“Yeah, um,” (Y/N) kissed his cheek. It didn’t last long, but it left her heart pounding and Warren flustered.
“Thanks for today. I’m gonna go shower.”

In The Rain. (Chris Evans x Reader)
Summary: Can a classic case of miscommunication be solved before the rain puts out the flickering light of love?
Warnings: trash. lmao. this is better than my radio silence, so... lol... fluffy, angsty (you know the drill)
Word Count: ~2k
Tumblr media
The lights flickered for only a second when the bright streaks that painted the sky were followed by deafening claps of thunder that shook your house. The rain was heavy as it pounded against the windows and the harsh winds were no kinder, but they were nothing compared to storm brewing within you.
A deep sigh escaped you as the blanket around your shoulders slipped off and pooled around your waist. You had a warm coffee in one hand and a book in the other while you sat at your reading nook watching the dark sky. It was a collection of poetry with several multicolored Post-It flags sticking out from its pages. Each color represented a feeling a poem elicited, and you found yourself flipping to those with a dark blue flag – the color of sorrow, heartbreak, sadness. In all honesty, it was self-pity.
You weren’t sure why you lingered for so long. Nothing but history and memories were keeping you in his life. The amicable breakup left you detached yet still attached to him. And what made everything worse was that you were still in love with Chris.
The breakup shocked those closest to you. You and Chris were – well … – the most unsuspecting perfect match. You were two completely different souls that balanced one another out. You complemented one another – hell, you completed each other. You were two independent entities that pushed the other to become a better version of themselves. The energy shared between you was radiant and the love was consuming. It was pure and unfiltered. Passionate. You weren’t one to believe in true love – in soulmates, or even twin flames – but then you met Chris and everything changed.
But like all matches – like all flames – they burn out.
You blamed it on anxiety – on expectations. You never had a long-lasting relationship. Chris was the first man you ever felt a true connection to – and that scared you more than you let on.
He was nearing 40 – the ripe age to settle down, to have a family. Although you were certain you wanted that with Chris, you weren’t sure if you wanted that now. Your reluctance had you absentmindedly push him away. You began to untether yourself to him. Untangling the beautiful, strong bond you once had until it was nothing but a single thread.
Although it was you that started to pull away, it was Chris who vocalized his unhappiness. It was Chris who instigated. The night you broke up, he refused to listen to your worries and your reasons for your sudden aloofness. “Do you even love me?” He asked you, but he didn’t wait for a response. You already blamed yourself – and it hurt twice as much when he blamed you, too.
It shocked you when you found out he told friends and family the breakup was mutual… because it was Chris who severed it … The supposedly mutual breakup kept an open door of communication for your families. While your family never bothered Chris or his kin, Scott constantly reached out to you, as well as his mother. They’d often invite you to house parties, dinners, karaoke nights… When you’d decline – finding it was a bit of a territory breach – they’d always claim Chris wouldn’t make an appearance but he always did.
Although you were broken up, you were forced to remain friends. You were forced to look at him across a dining table as if you didn’t know his deepest secrets. You spoke casually as if you never spent late nights unburdening your souls to one another. You acted as if you were friends that were never completely in love with each other.
You remembered the phone call from Scott this morning. He relayed a message from their mom, asking you to come to dinner. When you declined, Scott demanded for a reasonable answer. He often found, “I’m your brother’s ex-girlfriend” a useless excuse.
“I still love him, and it hurts because we’re pretending like we were never together.” Your voice broke. “I’m trying to pull away – trying to move on – but I don’t know if it’s me holding onto hope, or if it’s just....” You couldn’t finish your words – you weren’t sure how to. You felt guilty for confessing this to Chris’s brother of all people. You knew it wouldn’t confidential – that he’d tell Chris – but you just had to say it out loud once.
You heard Scott sigh over the phone. Taking pity on you, he decided it was probably best that you kept your distance from Chris – which was the opposite of the goal of him constantly inviting you out. “A storm’s coming tonight,” he mentioned. “And I know how rain helps calm you.”
But it did anything but that.
-=+=-
Chris had some idea of where it went wrong. The night it all ended, he blamed you. He knew he was in the wrong for that.
The night of his outburst haunted his memories, keeping him up all hours of the night. The image of your tearstained cheeks, reddened eyes, and pure heartbroken expression was burned into his mind. He saw it every time he closed his eyes. He remembered how you barely got a word in because every time you opened your mouth to speak, to reason, to argue, he spoke over you with such a heated, rage-filled tone that he didn’t even recognize.
He was afraid to lose you and because of his own arrogance and stubbornness, that’s exactly what happened.
You were unraveling your bond slowly, tactfully while he tore it to shreds.
And he regretted it every single day.
“Is (Y/N) coming?” He asked as subtly as he could while he and Scott set the table. Scott simply shook his head. Chris placed a plate onto the placemat as thunder shook the house, the glasses rattling slightly. “Do you know what she’s doing tonight?” He asked, trying to stay casual though everyone saw right through it. Scott’s brows were furrowed as if contemplating and his mouth was pressed into a firm line. Knowing him for all his life, Chris knew when his brother was hiding something. “Scott.”
“I can’t tell you!” Scott finally answered. That answer pulled at Chris’s heart – were you with someone? Is that why you weren’t here? “She’s just… she just needs a night.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Chris frowned. An upside to this “amicable” breakup was having his family constantly pull you back into their atmosphere. He wasn’t sure if they did it for him (they did), but he was thankful for all the nights you walked into their family home, gracing him with your presence even if you barely spoke. His brother remained silent and Chris called his name again.
“She’s just upset, okay?” Scott revealed. Chris’s frown deepened as he cocked his head to the side in confusion. “She just needs some time to think and heal.”
“What does that mean?”
Scott sighed. “I can’t tell you. She told me not to – Chris… do you plan on getting back together with (Y/N)?”
“Of course.” Chris answered with no hesitation. “I love her.”
“Then, why’d you break up with her?” Scott asked.
The question caught him off guard. Of course, he planned his apology. He planned his dramatic way to woo you back into his arms – to make you fall in love with him again. He didn’t quite know how to execute it – should he have been a cliché with a boombox, calling your name outside your window?
“I… I guess I felt like she was pulling away… and so, I felt like I had to beat her to the punch,” Chris cringed. It was a childish sentiment… But perhaps it was because his ego couldn’t take being broken up with? Or perhaps the thought of losing you clouded his judgement so much and consequently, his fears came true.
Scott scoffed at his brother, rolling his eyes for effect. “You’re an asshole.”
“Yeah and I feel bad about it, but every time I try to talk to her, she closes up.”
“I wonder why.” Chris groaned annoyedly at his younger brother, slapping the palm of his hand to his forehead. “She told me before that she felt as if she didn’t belong with you because you’re ready to start a family and she wasn’t.”
“When she say that?”
“A while ago…” Scott scratched his chin.
“But I don’t… I don’t need a family right this second. I just need her.”
“Does she know that?” Scott asked him. “Because all she knows is that you had enough of her.”
“I didn’t really give her a chance to talk…” Chris confessed. “I just… I kinda just ranted at her.”
Scott sighed disappointedly. “In all honestly, brother, I think you need to have an actual conversation with her… Not just a I’m-gonna-yell-at-you …”
Lightning flashed through the windows as the rain steadily poured. It didn’t look as if it were going to let up any time soon. Chris glanced at the clock. It was early into the evening – if it hadn’t been storming, then the sun would be painting the sky a beautiful orange sunset. Instead it was dark, gloomy – uncertain like your future.
Without much contemplation, Chris rushed out of the dining room, cutting through the kitchen. His mother gasped when he barged through the doors and walked to towards the front. “What are you doing?” She called after him. “Dinner’s almost ready!”
“I’m getting my girlfriend back,” Chris told her. His mother’s worried expression melted into one of pride as she cupped her chest with her hand and gave him an encouraging smile.
“Go get ‘er.”
“Love you, ma,” Chris called before walking out the door and braving through the storm.
-=+=-
The doorbell startled you from your nap. You hadn’t even realized you began to drift to sleep. With little regard about your appearance, you drudged towards the front door, wondering who could be at your house at this hour – especially with a storm like this.
“Chris?” You gasped, eyes widening as your ex-boyfriend was shivering from the rain. He was drenched, standing at your front porch. “Why are you here in the rain?”
“We need to talk.” You felt the blood leave your face. The last time he said those words to you, he left you crying and heartbroken. Thunder rumbled as you stared at him. “Scott told me.”
“Of course he did,” you rolled your eyes with frustration. “Chris, I don’t want to talk –“ You tried to close the door, but he easily overpowered you, keeping it open.
“No, we need to talk about this,” Chris snapped before sighing. “(Y/N),” you always loved the way he said your name. “I don’t want a family right now… I just want you… I just need you.”
You stared at him. Chris was never one to lie. He was terrible at it. His eyes always gave him away. Much like they did tonight when they revealed he was being truthful.
“I’m sorry,” he told you. “I’m sorry I’m an asshole that night. I’m sorry that I didn’t listen to you – that I didn’t even try to listen.” He paused, waiting for you to butt in, but you never did. You just stared at him in silence as you processed. “You’re the only one I want to be with… and I understand if that’s not what you want… You can close the door and we’ll pretend this never happened. We can go back to whatever we were… But I’m not going to ignore this.” When you remained silent, he said, “please, please say something.”
“I’m sorry I wasn’t truthful,” you finally said. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you about me doubting myself – that I started to push you away because I was afraid of what a serious relationship with you meant…”
He took a step towards you, hands reaching for you. One hand found its home at your waist, the other cupping your cheek. “It’s not your fault…” He said. “I love you and I always will. Please, take me back.”
“I love you, Chris,” you muttered before your hands wrapped around his neck to pull him towards your lips.

How does one, say, childproof an apartment from a “smart” vacuum? In five minutes it has gotten: stuck in the doorway for three minutes, locked itself in the bathroom, decided the folding table was a wall, sent an error message about a plant pot, gotten stuck under the shoe rack and not sent an error message, sent a stuck on cliff aka a chair leg, and then complained its home was blocked, trying to get through a wall. Yeah, it's good to be home.
Those rulers really don't learn, you can't separate the Wither, more than you already did. Yay Nugget my beloved (my mom almost killed nugget accidentally while I was gone because she left him on a windowsill that frosted over and he almost froze) and Dandy! Sausage, it's okay you don't like nugget, not everyone is a plant lover, or has a green thumb. At least he is starting to like Dandy, now we just need to show him Bubbles.
Wait- he's starting to have visions! I don't know if that'll be good or bad with what you have planned.
Scott? Half caring arc? I'm here for it. “I don’t care for these children, I only care about why my god cares for them. Me? Caring? Never.”
Yeah, Dandy does look like a pig being pink, but its fine! He'll come around. Maybe.
Aww, he's asking things for Gem, putting her first, her being happy makes him, maybe, happy. Now we just need to find things he’ll be happy with on his own. But look, they're gaining independence! Their own somewhat place to stay. Yeah I don't think the Wither knows how to cook past grilling pigs. But they probably burn it. Keep all cooking supplies away from Wither, even after they become good.
Sausage, getting answers, about where he's from? I'm here. Let me live in the Wither AU rent-free, I'll just live in your ask box. I'm a cat, I can live in a box.
Okay happy ask over, time to yell about pain.
-Kitty, just kicked Roomba out of her room.
I'm not sure. I can barely keep my sister's cat out of my room (because allergies, because I often forget to close my door), so I might not be the best person to ask. I’m glad your Nugget is okay!
Hey, at least they were given the option to sleep in separate rooms. At least they weren't stopped when they moved the bed. The option was there, and they decided to stick with what they know. Their choice.
Sausage indeed doesn't have a green thumb; most importantly, he just doesn't see the point of keeping plants when there are plants all around them. Why does one need to sit on their windowsill? Why not leave it outside, where nature takes care of it? (give him time, he’s learning, same with Dandy)
His visions are... plot-relevant. For, like, one or two moments. Other than that, it’s just me having fun with this particular part of his canon lore.
Now I can see Scott desperately trying to convince himself he doesn’t actually care about these kids, meanwhile Aeor just watches in the background and shakes his head like… you kinda care, start admitting it.
The hard part is finding those things Sausage would enjoy. It’s not like he’s helping, either, shooting down ideas and not really giving anything a chance either, still in grumpy mode. But hey, he’s slowly being pulled out of there (Gem is pulling with all her might). And even then, I don’t think he knows what he would like to do, so if you have any suggestions, please, my mind is blanking, I can’t think of anything besides Bubbles, and Sir Carlos isn’t gonna bring her to the Overgrown to meet Sausage.
Slowly but surely, they’re getting there. Their own place is a good first step. Even if it is still guarded and they’re still heavily monitored, but they’re getting there. At least they have some space to move around now. And I second that, don’t let them near cooking supplies. Or let Pearl teach them to cook, but only under her supervision. I’d include Rick, too, but he’s a terrible cook and would only make things worse (he’s worse than Gem and Sausage, if you can believe it; at least they know how to grill pigs, Rick would just burn it).
You’re always welcome to live in my ask box.

Pretty Cool
Peter Maximoff is more than a little impressed with the new girl at Xavier’s School.
masterlist
Tumblr media
Peter’s listlessly leaning up against a wall outside the classroom. One downside of being faster than everyone is that he has to wait so much longer for his friends to show up. Class won’t start for another five minutes anyway, but he had nothing to do and so he showed up early. Finally, Jean turns a corner and walks towards him.
“Took you long enough.” Peter grumbles, and Jean rolls her eyes. “Sorry we can’t all have the ability to go the speed of light. By the way, Scott’s not coming because he has to help the Professor with something, so it’s just us for today.” Peter groans. “Oh, come on. The highlight of my day is making fun of Scott, what else am I going to do?” Jean stifles a laugh as she walks inside the room with Peter.
“Actually, you can check out the new girl in the back. Xavier says she arrived just this morning.” She points to the other side of the training room, where Peter can see the silhouette of a girl. She’s separate from the others, probably because no one knows who she is, but Peter is instantly taken by her. “She’s really pretty.” He blurts it out before he realizes, and Jean laughs. “Perfect. Now I have some entertainment of my own- you drooling over this girl before you even know her name.” Peter sticks out his tongue at her, then quickly speeds away to Xavier’s office. Before Jean can even blink, he’s back.
“Okay, so I did a little research and it turns out her name is Y/N L/N. She’s from some place not too far from here, and she’s really good-looking.” Jean groans. “If you’re going to go snooping in the Professor’s files, could you at least find something more interesting to talk about? How about her powers? Or literally anything else other than her name and her appearance?” Peter waves a hand at her. “I couldn’t get too far before Xavier started to sense my presence in his office. Whatever, I think we’ll find out soon enough- here comes Logan now.” It’s true- the newly appointed professor is walking briskly towards the group of students arrayed in the vast space of the training room. It’s still weird to Peter that Logan’s their teacher, but whatever. He’s the one with the most experience actually fighting people, therefore he has been chosen to train all the students.
“Alright, listen up class. Today, you’ll be taking part in another simulation.” He squints at a screen in front of him and presses some buttons, causing the room to dissolve into the simulation. As the training room creates the scenario, Logan continues speaking. “You’ll have to cross a bridge that’s guarded by two giant automatons.” He gestures at the newly formed bridge. Two massive iron robots stand in the middle of it, each easily the size of a building. Thanks to Xavier’s technology in the training room, the simulations can be any size and have anything in them. This leads to some pretty interesting lessons. “Alright, line up. You’ll go through one at a time.”
As the students shuffle into a group at the back, Jean takes her place at the start of the bridge. Jean always goes first, mainly because everyone else is too afraid to get in front of her, but she says she wants to go first just to make sure she doesn’t copy anyone else’s techniques. The consequences of being a mind-reader are that Jean is always worried that her own ideas aren’t actually hers, and just someone else’s thoughts that she read by mistake.
Jean stares down at the iron giants for a moment, considering her attack. Without warning, she shoots a beam of energy at the first one, causing a fiery explosion to erupt in its chest. She takes to the air, soaring high above it so she can envelop it in even more of her magic. The robot doesn’t stand a chance, and it collapses in a heap of rubble. The other automaton suffers a similar fate, and Jean gently glides to the ground, lightly dusting off her hands.
“Alright, good job to Jean. Who’s next?” Logan’s voice booms across the room as the simulation resets itself for the next student. Peter strolls up the bridge, whispering “Showoff” to a smirking Jean as he passes her. He stretches for a moment, readying his arms and legs for the upcoming attack, then pulls down his goggles and starts to run as fast as he can. Like usual, the world around him slows down, and he races up one of the robots, tearing as many of the exposed wires and computing parts as he can. He jumps easily from one machine to the next, destroying everything he can get his hands on. By the time he finally allows himself to slow down, the automatons are short-circuiting and falling apart behind him. To his classmates, everything happened in just a moment.
“Good, Peter. Uh, can’t really tell what you did, but you did it fast, so good for you.” Logan’s commentary makes Peter grin, and he makes his way to the other side of the room next to Jean. Peter usually tunes out the rest of the class after he finishes with his run of the simulations, but when he sees who’s stepping up to the bridge next, he can’t help but turn back around and stare out of curiosity.
The thing about simulations in Xavier’s school is that everyone goes in a very specific order. Peter’s not sure exactly when this unspoken rule came to be, but it’s a tradition that has never been broken for as long as he’s been at the school. Everyone does the simulation in order of how powerful their mutation is.  Jean goes first, as per usual, then Peter. Both of them have gone on missions with Xavier, so they are automatically the first ones to go. The rest of the students go after them, with the most powerful next and the least powerful last. That’s just the way things are. For this class, the next student to go should be a loud, slightly arrogant boy with the ability to control fire. Admittedly, controlling fire is a bit of an overstatement, as all he seems to be able to do is sporadically shoot out columns of flame that reach a maximum height of two or three feet, but it’s power over fire nonetheless. He always goes next, and that’s just what happens.
This is why Peter is more than a little surprised to see the new girl striding up the bridge instead, walking in front of fire boy to the front of the line. Behind her, the class dissolves into quiet whispers, the same confused look on everyone’s face. New students will go last, that’s just what they do. What is she doing, going third?
To her credit, the new girl seems to be utterly unfazed by the whispering behind her. She eyes the automatons for a moment or two, then suddenly slams her hands down to the ground. Instantly, a wave of ice erupts from the place where her hands touch the ground and spreads rapidly across the bridge. The ice climbs up the robot’s feet, spiraling up its body until the entire automaton is covered from head to toe in ice in a matter of moments. Y/N eyes the robot, then flicks her hand at it. Suddenly, the iron giant shatters in a storm of ice crystals, leaving behind nothing but the faint smell of motor oil.
The new girl turns her attention to the other robot, which has realized her presence and started to charge her. The echo of its massive footsteps echo around the training room, but the girl doesn’t even flinch. She flings her arms forward, sending out shards of ice that are several feet long and sharper than a blade. The automaton slumps to a halt, impaled by the swords of ice coming out of it. As it shuts down from injury, it silently dissolves into just a few pixels that rearrange themselves into the open air of the simulation. Y/N studies the ice she’s left coating the bridge, but at a small movement of her fingers, it rises up and is summoned to her, disappearing into nothingness once it reaches her hand.
The girl calmly walks off the bridge, leaving the entire class in stunned silence. Logan clears his throat, trying to keep the astonishment from his voice. “Uh, good job, Y/N. By the way, class, this is Y/N. Our new student.” Y/N walks over to where Jean and Peter are standing, and watches as another student steps up to the bridge. Peter, doing his best to sound cool, smiles at her and introduces himself. “I’m Peter.” Y/N smiles back. “I’m Y/N, but I guess you already knew that.” Relaxing, Peter can’t help but keep talking to her.
“How’s your first day so far?” She leans back against the wall, taking in the class around her. “It’s pretty good. I think I confused people by going third, but I didn’t really know order was such a big deal.” Peter shakes his head to dismiss her fears. “Don’t worry, I think people won’t have any problems with you going third from now on. What you did was pretty cool- uh, pun intended.” She laughs at that, and the happy gleam in her eyes when she smiles is enough to make Peter want to tell a hundred more jokes. “That’s good. I wouldn’t want to cause too much drama on my first day.”
They keep talking until the end of class, and Peter is more than a little disappointed to hear the bell ring to dismiss them. “Do you need any help getting to class? I can show you around.” Y/N beams at him. “I’d love that, Peter.” They walk off together, talking happily together like they’ve known each other for years, and Peter can’t help but hope that she’s in more of his classes so he can spend even more time with the prettiest girl he’s ever met.

“Ouch! What was that for, Y/N?!”
Tony yelled and Steve gave you his ever famous ‘eyebrows of disappointment’ when you threw a large pillow towards the cuddling couple. They were just sitting there on the floor, not even making a sound, just enjoying each other’s presence so it was pretty weird that you threw a pillow out of the blue.
You shrugged, “Nothin’ much, just felt like it.”
Everyone’s eyes were on you now. It’s not that you were acting weird, throwing stuff is kinda your thing. It’s just that you haven’t talked the whole time you were all in the common room, and you’ve all been there for an hour. You haven’t been talking for one fucking hour because you honestly felt lonely despite being around a room full of people you considered your family.
Most of them had someone. Tony has Steve, Wanda has Vision, Scott has Hope, Nat has Bruce, though he’s not here at the moment.
That leaves you, Sam, and Bucky, the members of the Single Club.
You loved them both dearly, you do, but you wanted a Steve to your Tony. Probably not the best example because of the whole Civil War thing, but they both truly loved each other, everyone could see that.
“You just felt like throwing a throw pillow to Tony and me while we were just sitting here barely talking?” Steve asked, raising an eyebrow.
“It is a throw pillow,” you said, shrugging once again.
Tony grabbed the pillow and threw it back to you aggressively, "Doesn’t mean you should just throw it out of the blue! Maybe warn us next time?”
Sam laughed, catching the pillow that was about to hit your face, “Don’t mind her, she’s just being bitter.” You smiled at him, "Can’t argue with that.”
“Well, you should try to date then,” Natasha suggested, making you, Bucky, and Sam laugh.
“She kind of gave up on it,” Bucky said and looked at you with a small smirk.
You nodded before drinking from your cup that was on the table, “I always end up in the weirdest places!”
Scott tilted his head, making him look like a confused puppy, “Like where?”
“Uhh..,” you sighed, “Their parents’ basement, a car in the shop, oh and did you forget that one time that I went home covered in blood ‘cause I ended up in a Hydra base?”
Scott nodded with a wrinkled nose, “Yeah, it’s probably safer if you never go on a date again. That basement sounds kinda weird and creepy.”
"Scott, not helping. Y/N, not all guys will bring you to the weirdest places. Believe it or not, some guys are actually pretty great and decent like, uh, Steve here. He’s respectful and kind and caring,” Hope said, completely unaware of the highly offended man beside her.
Tony smirked, “In the bedroom’s a totally different story.”
You laughed at Scott who was now sitting straight, “I’m not just gonna ignore the fact that you used Steve as an example while you’re here cuddling me,” he complained.
"Scott’s okay too, kind of a dumbass, but okay,” Hope said nonchalantly.
Wanda untangled from her lover and leaned forward, “Ooh, maybe who you’re looking for is right in front of you but you may be too bitter to see it,” she said wiggling her eyebrows.
You looked at the person who was seating across from you, “Barnes?”
Okay. He’s good looking, you’ve said that a few times to yourself already. You were friends and you were scared because if you two dated, there was no turning back. You worked really hard to be his friend after he came back from Wakanda. When he came to the tower, he always followed Steve wherever he went. He didn’t really trust anyone except for Steve. He eventually talked to the others who teamed up with him and Steve. Unfortunately for you, you teamed up with Tony. So, you only talked to him after almost a year after he moved in.
You remember it as if it was yesterday, you were teasing Sam about… okay maybe you don’t remember the exact details. It doesn’t matter! You were teasing Sam when he walked into the kitchen. You remember making your voice louder for him to hear even though you know he has supersoldier hearing. He laughed at something you said which made both you and Sam look at him. Bucky was smiling at you. It was the first time you saw it, and damn. “Please, continue teasing Sam. It can be exhausting you know? I’m glad to know that there’s someone who can take my place when I’m not there to do it,” he said sipping his coffee.
That was the day you became friends with Bucky Barnes. Aaaaand betrayed Sam Wilson.
“All I’m saying is, look at Tony and Steve. Hope and Scott. Even Vis and I. We all didn’t date first. We were…co-workers or friends first. We didn’t force ourselves to make a good first impression. We didn’t force ourselves to like the other. It just… sorta happened,” Wanda said, looking at Vision lovingly.
"Well said, Wands,” Nat smiled.
Sam clapped, “Yes! Don’t give up on love, my darling Y/N,” he said enthusiastically.
Wanda frowned and tilted her head, “Not my point.”
“What is it, Wilson?” You said, squinting your eyes.
Sam smiled nervously, scratching the side of his head, “Welllllllll, I may have another blind date for you.”
You crossed your arms in front of you, “No.”
“This is the last one!” Sam grabbed ahold of your ankle that was on his lap the whole time. You tried to kick him off, “You said that 10 dates ago!” you yelled finally sitting properly on the couch.
“10?” Steve asked.
Sam kneeled in front of you, pleading, “This one won’t take you somewhere weird!”
You rolled your eyes, “You said that 11 dates ago.”
Nat waved her hands, gesturing us to stop talking, “You’ve had 12 or 13 blind dates and all of them took you to weird places?”
You nodded. Not all of it was bad though, maybe six or seven of them were gentlemen. The rest of them were fun in a childish way. But the places, oh man, you’ve been to places you never thought you’d end up in on a first date.
“Sam, where do you even meet these people?” Scott laughed, massaging his temples.
You saw a confused Vision turn to Wanda, “Sam has friends?”
Sam stood up, “I swear, this is the– Sam has frie- yes I have friends!”
“Look, Sam, I appreciate your effort to find me love but, I’m sorry, I don’t want you to be my wingman anymore,” you smiled sadly, grabbing his hand.
“But that’s my thing!” Sam frowned, stomping his feet. You rolled your eyes, very mature.
Tony smirked, “So the spot’s open?”
Bucky raised his hand excitedly, “I’ll set you up with someone!”
“No offense but, do you know anyone else besides us, Barnes?” Natasha scrunched her eyebrows at the smiling soldier.
He nodded slowly, “Yes, I do… I-I uh go running outside sometimes, you know?”
“Wait. I didn’t mean immediately!” You yelled causing them to laugh. They didn’t know you weren’t joking. Sam gave you a date every week. Every. Single. Week. That was after the third date. The first three dates he gave you? You called them the Thursday, Friday, Saturday incident. Yep, three dates for three consecutive days.
Bucky nodded, reading your face, “No rush, Y/N. I’m just saying, I have someone who you might be interested in.”
Steve laughed, “Do you even know this guy, Buck?”
You noticed Bucky’s scrunched eyebrows and pouted lips turn to narrowed eyes and tight lips as if he was debating himself about something, “Uhhh… Pretty well actually.”
Wanda suddenly gasped and giggled causing everyone to look at her weirdly. “You okay, Wands?” you raised an eyebrow. She nodded, placing her chin in the palm of her hands, “Mhm! Continue!”
Hope cleared her throat, “This guy is not just someone you passed by or something?”
“You should be asking Sam that,” Bucky defended, making Sam roll his eyes.
Bucky looked back at you with his gorgeous blue eyes and that freaking smile that you love so much, “Y/N give me a chance on matchmakin’?”
You hesitated, “I don’t know. You and Sam might be talking about the same guy”
Sam grunted, standing up, and went over to Bucky who whispered in his ear. Sam’s eyes widened, his mouth forming an ‘o’ shape, turning to a big smile. “Very very different people, Y/N,” Sam’s smile got bigger and bigger as he went back to sit beside you.
You narrowed your eyes at the guys, “You sure?”
Here’s the thing, you don’t really trust those two idiots. They are not exactly friends, they’re more of frienemies. You three team up with one of you to make fun of the other or just prank the other.
They both nodded, “Absolutely.”
You gave in and sighed, “Okay. Just give me a week without a date please.”
“Sure,” Bucky smiled.
Nat cleared his throat, “So Y/N, tell us about every single guy Sam set you up with,” she wiggled her eyebrows, smirking.
You sighed, rolling your eyes. Yeah, this is gonna be a long night.
Tumblr media
After the talk about your dating life, the team decided to play some games. These things usually get out of hand as everyone’s competitive, including yourself so you decided to just watch them.
You stood up from your seat to make yourself a popcorn while everyone else grabbed their own snacks. Bucky grabbed a drink from the fridge and stood next to you, watching the popcorn.
“Barnes, tell me all about the guy you’re setting me up with,” you turned to look at him.
He exhaled, “I…hope you’ll like him.”
“That’s it?” You tilted your head, “Come on, tell me more! What’s he like? Where’s he taking me?”
He chuckled, “That’s what the date is for, doll.”
You sighed, “Right, of course.”
There was a moment of silence between the two of you while the rest of the team argued about what game they should play next.
“Is it… Sam?” you asked, breaking the silence.
He laughed, “It’s not, unfortunately. Unless you want me to set you up with him?” he smirked.
You shook your head, “Oh no thanks, he’s like a brother to me, you know that.”
Bucky smirked, leaning closer, “What about me, doll? What am I to you?”
The popping sounds saved you from the question, “I better…uh…the popcorn…I–” you said, doing all kinds of hand gestures. He chuckled and went back to the common room.
Damn, you can’t wait for your date with Bucky– your date with the guy Bucky set you up with. Damn it!
Tumblr media
“Okay, these jeans or these leggings?” Wanda held up your choices.
You looked at Wanda confused. “If you have to run from your date or something. We both know you don’t like running in a dress.”
“Oh, smart,” you nodded as you chose the jeans.
Wanda was helping you out for your date tonight. She seems excited about it, you thought. You, on the other hand, are not excited at all. Wanda knows that you were debating on whether you should go or not.
This past week was… something. Bucky kept flirting with you. Sometimes you laugh at it or roll your eyes, but most times you found yourself flirting back. Steve always said how Bucky was a ladies man back in the day and now, you could see why. He’s so confident now and he is naturally charming. The weirdest part about this is that after he flirts with you, he brings up the date. And he’s excited about it! It just does not make sense to you at all.
Wanda was brushing your hair when she noticed your ‘thinking face’, “You’re gonna enjoy this I swear, Y/N,” she smiled at you through the mirror.
You nodded, “Yeah...yeah! I’ve just been thinking about...Bucky. He happily volunteered to set me up with someone then he suddenly becomes flirty every single day before the date… I just--I don’t understand,” sighing, you stood up and looked at yourself at a bigger mirror.
“No one really understands Bucky that much except for Steve,” Wanda laughed. She turned you around and checked whatever else you may need. “You’re good to go, honey!”
“Where’s Bucky?” You asked. Wanda smiled, “He’s out, Sam’s taking you to the...place you’re supposed to meet.”
Tumblr media
Sam was awfully quiet driving his car. Something is definitely up. It’s been 15 minutes without him talking. He just hums whenever you talk.
“Alright, we’re here. Enjoy!” Sam said after he opened the car door for you. It was your favorite fast food place. Bucky must’ve told the guy that you love the food here.
You checked your messages for the 5th time tonight, ‘he’ll approach you when you enter :)’ Bucky wrote. You exhaled deeply, entering the restaurant.
“Hi, you look beautiful,” a voice from your left spoke up.
You looked over to see, “Bucky? What are you doing here?”
“I’m James, your date for tonight,” he smiled cheekily.
“Are you kidding me?” You raised an eyebrow, keeping yourself from smirking.
He shook his head, giving you the small bouquet of flowers he was holding. Taking your hand, he brought you to the table where you usually sat whenever you’re here with him. You were trying so hard to hide your smile but when you look at the man in front of you who was still smiling cheekily, you gave up and laughed.
“You know, Bucky told me you were cute and boy was he wrong. You’re beautiful, doll,” he said holding your hand that was on the table.
“Oh yeah? Did he also say that he flirted with me for the whole week after telling me that he’s setting me up on a date with you?” You smirked.
Buck-- James shrugged, “I mean, can you blame him? With you looking beautiful all the damn time, I can’t see why anyone wouldn’t make a move on you.”
You laughed, “Okay, okay. I still don’t understand any of this though.”
His flesh hand found its way on your cheek, making you look at his hypnotizing eyes. “I like you. A lot. You’ve always been so fun to be with, doll. You’re witty and sarcastic most of the time but you can be understanding and sweet when you need to be. You’re fierce and powerful. I just can’t get you out of your head ever since we went on that mission with Sam” he chuckled at the memory, “Remember? You took down the HYDRA agents while wearing that awfully large gown. Later on, we heard you singing a Backsync--?”
“Backstreet Boys”
“Backstreet Boys song, while there were screaming and gunshots in the background. You’re really strong and courageous, Y/N. I absolutely adore you.”
“I didn’t take you to be a sappy little shit, James” you smiled teasingly, “Buttttttt, I absolutely adore you too.”
He laughed, "Good to know, doll. But uhh, spoiler alert, you'll end up in a weird place after this date too."
You smirked, "And where's that?"
"In my arms," his cheeky smile found its way back to his lips, "Cause one's metal, the other's flesh. It's weird. Get it?"

To Derek, it felt like falling.
He’d fallen so much over the years, he felt like he should be an expert by now. It was one thing after another; the blue-eyes, the blonde-haired hunter, the body in the woods. And now that was falling, wasn’t it? He’d heard the term ‘rock bottom’ before but had come to realize long ago that it couldn’t be a real thing. Because wouldn’t he have hit it by now?
Except, this was different. This felt so different.
Fucking Stiles Stilinski.
Derek didn’t know if there was more than one way to fall. If anything, he thought he might have felt it with Paige. Or Kate. That stupid thing Laura would tease him about when she’d bring up girls and he’d roll his eyes, trying to cover up his crush on the cello player, or the blonde-haired substitute teacher that had been so scary but so exciting.
And he was pretty sure that’s what falling should have felt like. Maybe. Probably. Right?
But then he’d lost his entire family, and wasn’t that what it actually was? Laura driving them through the entire night with white knuckles around the steering wheel, taking refuge in an old apartment in New York that smelled like decay. The one they ended up staying in for years, even though she’d promised they’d be gone by morning.
To Derek, that had felt like falling. It had all felt like falling.
But so did any interaction with Stiles Stilinski.
He thought he could ignore it at first. Except somewhere in between meeting the idiot in the middle of the woods and going on the run as an alleged murderer, Derek realized Stiles had gotten underneath his skin unlike anyone he’d ever met before. And it bothered him.
Stiles bothered him.
Then there was the instance of two hours in the pool followed by the word ‘abomination’, and Derek came to terms with the fact that it was because Stiles was familiar. Stiles was familiar like the fall; in a way that Derek had long since tried to forget.
Except the boy wasn’t that easy to shake. No matter how hard Derek tried, no matter where he turned, the idiot was always there .
In the beginning, he’d hoped buying his own loft would be different. But he had been wrong before.
“So,” Stiles said, wandering into the kitchen with an empty bowl of cereal in one hand and his phone in the other. “What’s the plan for the rogue omega, Sourwolf?”
Two seconds ago, Derek’s attention had been fully on his cup of coffee— which was exactly what he blamed for the fact that he hadn’t recognized Stiles’s scent earlier. Yeah, that was totally it. Now, though, he stared at the boy, trying to process how exactly Stiles had gotten into the loft without a key and Derek had just woken up twenty minutes ago, hadn’t he?
“Uh, Stiles said, lowering his phone and raising an eyebrow. “Sourwolf? Are you okay?”
“How the hell did you get in here?”
“Dude,” Stiles said, scoffing. “If you have to ask that, then I’m seriously worried about your status of being our Alpha.”
Derek blinked and Stiles dropped onto the stool opposite him, sticking his spoon in his mouth and grinning around it.
“So, Sourwolf. Rogue omega?”
“I didn’t tell Scott about that,” Derek said, still processing. Stiles rolled his eyes.
“Of course, you didn’t,” the boy said. “But I’m clearly the responsible one in our friendship, so I’ve been in contact with your betas. Plus, we all know Scotty goes running around the woods at night to meet up with Allison, and either of them getting turned into rogue werewolf chow would be unfortunate.”
Derek continued to stare. Catching his expression, Stiles blinked.
“Or, maybe you didn’t know that. But now you do! And it’s all thanks to the token human— you’re very welcome.”
Derek looked at him for another long moment. Then, picking up his coffee, he moved around the counter and started past the teenager, ignoring Stiles’s spluttering at his back. Because honestly? It was far too early to even be trying to comprehend Stiles’s presence in his loft. And now Derek had his betas to chew out.
Yeah, his week was already starting out just great.
See, the thing about Stiles Stilinski was that once he latched on, he didn’t let go. Originally, Derek had thought if he snapped and growled enough, Stiles would eventually get the message and back off. But that never ended up happening. From the kid he’d met in the woods the first night— all buzz cut and gangly limbs— to whatever the hell Stiles had become now, Derek couldn’t seem to shake him.
He was there. He was always there.
Months passed and Derek still wasn’t sure how Stiles managed to get into his loft. He decidedly didn’t like it.
“I just think the betas could do with some more freedom,” Stiles said one day, lounging on the couch with his laptop propped up on his knees. Derek glared at him from his own spot across the room, but the boy wasn’t even looking in his direction. “They aren’t children, you know. Or at least, Boyd isn’t.”
“I still don’t know what you’re doing here.”
Surprise entering his previously bored scent, Stiles finally glanced up. And then he looked around the room, as if realizing for the first time how quiet and dark it had gotten. Derek still wasn’t sure that was possible— the idiot had spent the entire day on his couch, after all, only getting up to raid his fridge a few hours ago.
“Oh damn,” Stiles said, whistling. “I thought Erica was going to be here to back me up in this argument.”
“You... what?”
“Erica,” Stiles said, glancing back over. “She thinks she and the others should have a later curfew and be allowed to scare the shit out of people with their beta forms whenever the situation calls for it.”
Derek still stared. Stiles grinned crookedly, readjusting himself on the couch.
“I didn’t think she’d get that last one, honestly, but I promised to be here for support. ‘Cause I’m a good friend, you know, dude?”
“Don’t call me dude.”
“Okay, Sourpuss,” Stiles said, rolling his eyes and turning his attention back to his computer screen. “Just tell her I came by, would you? If I’m gone by the time she gets back, at least.”
Derek still didn’t know what the teen was doing in his loft. But Stiles’s attention was fully locked on his screen by now and Derek knew there was no chance he was getting his attention again. Glaring at the boy for another long second, he stayed sitting until it felt stupid, growling and shoving himself up.
He didn’t think Stiles even noticed as he stalked into the next room. And for some reason, that bothered him too.
But see, Derek wasn’t sure what about Stiles Stilinski bothered him. Maybe it was the idiot’s annoying sarcasm or his never-ending jokes, or the way he only stopped talking when his mouth was otherwise occupied. Or maybe it was his stupid smile, his stupid face, or those stupid moles that Derek sometimes wanted to trace where they disappeared underneath his shirt.
No… wait, not that. Definitely not that.
Though it could still be a lot of things, Derek figured. The real fact was Stiles was stupid as a whole.
And the idiot bothered him.
Yeah, that’s what it was.
It took an unfortunate incident with a wendigo for Derek to realize that wasn’t really what it was.
The rest of the pack must have realized how pissed off he was, because they all filtered out of the loft the moment Derek growled that they could go. Everyone except for Stiles, of course, who lingered by the door with an uncertain look on his face.
Derek glared at him from where he sat on the edge of his bed, the gash across his back still taking its time stitching itself back together. Because he was tired, dammit. He was tired, he was in pain, and he really just wanted to be left alone.
But Stiles didn’t leave him alone. Instead, the boy moved further into the room.
“Uh, hey, dude—”
“Don’t, Stiles,” Derek growled. “I told you to go home.”
The boy paused and a defiant light flashed through his amber eyes. Derek knew he was doomed the moment Stiles set his jaw, striding into the kitchen and coming out a few moments later with a first aid kit and a damp cloth.
Derek rolled his eyes, shifting so his back was turned toward the boy. Which probably didn’t help his case much.
“Holy shit, Sourwolf,” Stiles breathed, freezing a few inches away. “That’s disgusting.”
“Thanks,” Derek snapped. “You can leave the kit and leave.”
Stiles’s scent soured with anger for a moment. But the emotion didn’t last long before the teen was settling on the bed behind him, cold fingertips touching Derek’s shoulder and making him jerk. In a second, Stiles was mumbling apologies, drawing his hand back.
“I said you can go,” Derek said again, trying to ignore the strange mourning at that loss of touch. He heard Stiles sigh.
“I swear to god, dude, you could make this a lot less difficult.”
“Don’t call me dude.”
“I could call you a lot worse,” Stiles muttered. Derek clenched his jaw, glaring at the opposite wall, and he jerked again when Stiles touched his shoulder once more, this time starting to pull away mangled t-shirt from blood crusted skin.
“Stiles,” Derek said, hating his voice for sounding strangled. He was torn between pulling away and staying stock-still, as if not moving would make sure Stiles didn’t stop. Still, the boy hesitated.
“Is this okay?”
Derek clenched his jaw, glaring harder at nothing. Stiles pulled away even more.
“Because I can call Boyd to help instead, or—”
“Don’t,” Derek said, cutting him off. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and then opened them again. “Please don’t go.”
Stiles’s scent turned surprised. The boy didn’t move for a moment and Derek wondered for a moment if that was wrong. If everything he’d just said was wrong. He didn’t like to… ask people for things. He hadn’t for a long time.
But this was different. Wasn’t it?
This was Stiles.
“Yeah, big guy,” Stiles finally said, and Derek was pretty sure that rush he felt wasn’t relief. Or maybe it was. The boy settled behind him again, fingers tracing over Derek’s shoulder again, and he found his eyes closing once more. “Yeah,” Stiles said again. “I’m here.”
And he always was.
But that’s what bothered Derek so much, wasn’t it? Stiles Stilinski was always there. In his loft, in his whole damn life. It wasn’t like Derek looked for him when he called a pack meeting or found himself a little more at ease when Stiles’s scent greeted him in the morning, but… but…
This was different. This felt like falling.
“You could use a shower,” Stiles said, breaking the silence with that soft, teasing voice of his. The stupid way he always needed to break the silence with jokes— that Derek totally hated. “Once this is healed and all, dude. Like, I’d say the blood isn’t totally gross, but it really is. And I can’t really tell when there wound starts and finishes, but it’s no longer so disgusting anymore. If that helps.”
Derek rolled his eyes, unable to help himself. Glancing over his shoulder, he was met with dancing amber eyes and a stupid shit-eating grin on Stiles’s face.
“Other than that, though,” Stiles said. “You’re still looking good, Sourwolf. Worry not, your sexy werewolf looks are still intact.”
Derek raised an eyebrow. Stiles’s face turned bright red and his scent flushed with embarrassment.
“Coming from a completely disinterested perspective, of course.”
“Of course,” Derek said. Stiles ducked his head, picking up the damp cloth at his side and turning his attention to the gash across Derek’s back again.
“You don’t like the rest of the pack seeing you hurt, do you, dude?”
Derek tensed, then grunted. He heard Stiles sigh.
“They can help too, you know. It’s not a bad thing, Sourwolf. Asking for help every once in a while.”
“I don’t need their help,” Derek said. And once more, Stiles’s ministrations stopped for a moment. Derek internally winced, already hating himself for continuing to snap at everything the boy said. But Stiles still didn’t pull back, starting again with the washcloth after a few more seconds. Derek could practically hear the gears in his head turning.
“But you need mine.”
Derek didn’t answer that. Because he didn’t, did he? Stiles was just stubborn, that’s why he was still here. The words don’t go totally hadn’t come from Derek’s mouth— or maybe it was just the pain. It was the pain and the darkness and… and maybe Derek didn’t want to be alone right now. Maybe he didn’t want to be alone if Stiles was the one staying at his side.
“So,” Stiles said softly. “Not them. But what about us?”
The very question made Derek freeze.
Because the way he saw it, Derek could send Stiles away right now. One harsh word, or maybe even just a few more minutes of complete silence. Stiles was stubborn, yes, but Derek could be too. He could send Stiles fuming from the loft with as little as a few more grunts and growls.
He didn’t do any of those things. Instead, shifting away from Stiles’s touch, he turned around and met the boy’s gaze. Those amber eyes that seemed to glow brightly even in the darkness, a quiet expression of nervousness on Stiles’s face. As if the teen knew exactly what was going through Derek’s mind.
What about us?
And it had been so many years. From the moment Derek had come across two teenagers in the middle of the preserve and Stiles had given him that stupid open-mouthed look that made Derek’s blood boil right from the beginning for some reason. It had been so many years and one thing after another.
Stiles was here. Stiles was always here. In his lift, in his life. And it was strange. It was bothersome.
It wasn’t.
Because silently, in the darkness of the empty loft, Derek thought maybe this was it— this was the secret behind falling. The one where maybe taking that leap off the edge wasn’t so bad. Somehow, fucking Stiles Stilinski was his secret behind falling and Derek didn’t think he could send the boy away even if he wanted to.
He didn’t want to.
“Derek?”
Stiles’s scent was sharp with anxiety and concern now, his face pale in the dim light. Derek swallowed hard, a million responses on his tongue. What about us? Because that meant there was a them. There was an us.
To Derek, it felt like falling.
All responses died when he leaned forward and kissed the boy instead of saying another word.

prompt: takes place from a3 to smffh
The Early Years (1) The Teenage Years (2) The Intense Years (3) Continued (5)
Tumblr media
let’s start on a happy note! ahahah
so for a while, earth was calm
you, pepper, and tony got to be a family for a while
wedding planning!
of course you got to try the ben&jerry’s ice cream named after your dad: Stark Raving Hazelnuts
“it’s not fair that you got ice cream named after you and i didn’t”
“well, when you grow up to be as awesome as me, maybe you’ll get your own ice cream flavor”
developing nanotech suits together for a Bonding Experience(tm)
speechless after the first test
“dad, this is...”
“the coolest thing to ever exist?”
“yes!!”
yall ready for some shit?
the day that ebony maw invaded was pretty—what’s the word? interesting? no. well, yes, but...HORRIBLE.
it all started when you got the call from your dad
“y/n, incoming call from ‘big fat meanie’”
“god, i really have to change that. okay, JOSHIE, answer it. hey, dad? what’s up?”
“hey, kid! you know that weird ass building on bleecker street? how fast can you get here?”
“JOSH can you track FRIDAY really quick? lets see how far dad is...uh, okay, be there in five, see ya”
taking your suit for a spin and realizing how GREAT it was to be able to basically fold up your suit and put it in your back pocket
knocking on the door and it opened on its own, it was kinda cool
“is this a museum? cool.”
bruce turning around to see you after about three years and giving you an awkward smile and a wave while you stood frozen around the wizard-guys
“y/n, god, you’ve grown up!”
charging into him for a long overdue hug
“you don’t know how much i missed you. it’s been chaotic without you”
“i can...i can only imagine”
a debriefing on the situation you were about to face, and bonus! having to play the catch-up game with bruce
“just call him, dad. we need as much help as we can. steve will understand”
rushing outside to face off with some ugly-ass aliens
“oh nooo, it’s roger smith from american dad”
bruce: 👀, stephen: 👀, wong: 👀, tony: 👏👏🥰 that’s my girl
simultaneous nanosuit unveiling
“you ready for this one, pops?”
“of course! ive waited years to kick some more alien ass”
montage of you and tony getting your asses beat together (as a family <3)
peter showing up
“give me one good reason why i shouldn’t send you back to that school bus”
“because i’m good company?”
“whatever, just listen to whatever dad has to say, i forfeit my responsibilities over you”
pew pew, repulsors, pew, tiny rockets! fun! action! destroying new york again and again. good times...
until JOSHUA gave you notice that your dad was flying high
“call him. now.”
“hey! how’s it going down there?”
“dad, you know how i feel about you and space”
“i know, i know. i just...i gotta take care of this. keep pepper safe for your old man, okay?”
“i lo—l—ve y—”
“y/n? y/n?! i love you! shit!”
“we lost connection with her, sir”
trying to call peter
“call failed, y/n. should i try again?”
“i’m gonna kill them...”
walking through the rubble to find bruce, the only sensible man you know
taking him to the avengers compound asap to get to rhodey and figure out what comes next
meanwhile, tony was dealing with space and another teenager
and worrying a lot about leaving you on earth
“i mean, mr. stark, y/n’s one of the most capable people i know. she’s probably trying to fix this whole mess as we speak”
“i didn’t get to tell her i love her”
“oh...”
having a lovely meeting with thaddeus ross with rhodey, having a lovely time watching them passive-aggresively argue until your former teammates arrived
having to patiently (and professionally) wait for ross to hang up before running into them for a hug
“holy shit, you guys have no idea how bad i’ve wanted to see you. it sucks not being all together anymore”
“i know, y/n. we’ve all missed you.” -cap
“a lot” -nat added
bruce’s little entrance that was sure to bring some awkwardness
you, secretly freaking out about your dad
sam was the one that found you crying after you “stepped out” for a few minutes too long
“oh, y/n,” he was contemplating grabbing someone else to step in, but decided to sit next to you in the hallway, “i’m sorry, kiddo. i can’t promise you anything, but your dad is a fighter. a big pain in the ass. i think your odds are good”
laughing through your tears
“yeah, you’re right. thanks, sammy”
he gave you a little hug while you calmed down
getting to business, the ass-kicking kind
as the wise natasha romanoff once said to your father, you were being “uncharacteristically non-hyper verbal”
your mind did this funny thing...wandered into places it really should not go
the talk about sacrificing vision led to wakanda, where you had a swell time patrolling
“guys! we’ve got incoming. a lot of incoming”
well-deserved uncle/niece team up. who wouldve thought?
you would have nightmares about these aliens for years to come
“you get to die, and you get to die! everybody gets to die!”
“y/n, what did we talk about?” -rhodey
“using humor as a defense mechanism makes the team uncomfortable...”
covering the girls 😌 because we gotta have those all-girl teamups, uh-huh?
some more blasting
thor made his comeback and you just could not miss it
“hi, thor!”
you landed next to him and your helmet receded
“well, hello, miss y/n! good to see you again! my, you got taller...oh! meet my friends: rabbit and tree”
having a “what the actual fuck” moment upon seeing thanos for the first time
and flying at him from behind with a massive nanotech blade ready to kill this purple bastard
but he grabbed your arm and flung you into the dirt, that was gonna leave a mark
“i just had to make a suit when i was ten...no one stopped me, huh? i couldn’t be elon’s kid, he was a nice guy”
watching thanos snap his fingers and looking around to see dust floating through the air and thanos retreat
“rhodey? uncle rhodey?!”
“i’m right here, kid, don’t worry”
he grabbed your hand while you were dusting
“tell my dad i love him, promise?”
fading away and leaving rhodey with your last words
he was mad before anything else
all he could think about was a promise your dad made him take years back
“rhodey, you keep my daughter safe no matter what, promise?”
the avengers recooperating at the compound, waiting to figure out whether any of the space-crew survived
they had to let pepper know that you didn’t make it, she was a mess upon hearing that news
tony finally making his way back to earth
and stumbling out of that ship
“where’s y/n? where is she?!”
“tony, tony, calm down”
“dont tell me to calm down! where is my daughter?!”
“she made me promise to tell you thay she loves you”
tony knew the answer by now, he lost his mind over your death
it didn’t feel right not having you by his side, for the past 18 years you’ve been with him
after a long period of recovery, tony and pepper moved on, got married, built a home, had a new daughter...
tony made sure there was a spare room for you
he put all the things you left behind in it
there were so many photos of you in the house
and he’d show your sister, morgan, all of them. he wanted morgan to know her sister
“that’s y/n when she built her first robot. it snuck up on me a few times. it went ‘boo!’”
morgan loved the stories about you, but she didn’t understand why she couldn’t see you
“when do i get to meet her?”
“uh...maybe someday, sweetie”
after being unbothered for almost 5 years, the remaining avengers came back with a plan that was so tempting, he just wanted his little girl back
cracking under pressure and telling pepper that he couldn’t ignore this mission because it was his chance to get you back
“get her back, tony”
“you think so?”
“i miss her, too.”
and so it began, he made it his mission to get you back
peeking at the wallet picture of you on his shoulders when you were so little
tony travelling to 2012; loki’s invasion
and there you were, the sassy genius 12 year old that he missed so much
“we’ve got this, tony, we’ll bring her home” -scott
and then things went badly and also 2012 tony went into cardiac arrest and 2012 y/n dove onto the floor to tend to him
“dad? give us some room, would you?!”
2023 tony smiling at how much he missed you worrying about him and how reckless he was
but also...the mission kinda went bad so that sucked
push it a bit farther back and now tony was with grandpa stark! asking how to be a dad and all that!
he could barely stand still waiting for you to come back to him, god he missed you more than he thought
and after a bit of hard work, it was time to snap
just like that, you were back in wakanda, puzzled by the gap in time before one of dr. strange’s portals opened in front of you
and then you were in the ruins of the avengers compound
“JOSHUA, can you locate my dad?”
“i think you’ll be able to see him”
“wow, i cant believe i programmed your cocky artificial ass”
“i think you can”
seeing your dad flying high and patching into the comms
“miss me, old man?”
and then he hit the gas to get to you and when this man hugged you, you almost couldn’t let go
“i’m so sorry, y/n. god, i’m sorry. these last five years...i was so lost without you”
“it’s okay, dad, i’m here now”
getting shot at during your reunion
“son of a bitch...we’re having a family moment here, asshole!”
yes, im gonna say it again. of course i am! and.........father/daugher team-up
the last one
“peter, is that you? you asshole! i cant believe you went to space without me!”
“missed you too!”
rhodey!! cant forget about uncle rhodey!!
“you gave my dad the message, right?”
“it was your dying wish, of course i did!”
“great. don’t forget i love you, too, rhodey!”
“couldn’t let me forget it”
lest we forget that pepper joined the fight?
plot twist: (step)mother/daughter team-up
mother/father/daugher team up!!!! ultimate stark machine!!!!!!!
and then you left him alone for 5 minutes and he’s got the infinity stones and you know it’s the last time you’re going to see him and you cant decide what your next move is and you’re just frozen and you cant catch your breath and he snaps and your heart plummets
you have to rush to his side, the last time you can sit beside his tired body and let him know that its going to be okay
“hey dad, it’s okay, we’re gonna be fine. thank you for everything”
peter grabbing your hand as you both sobbed next to your dad, feeling robbed of your time with him
pepper brought you home where she told you all about the five years you missed
both of you just cried harder than you’ve ever cried before
“so i have a sister?”
morgan was so happy to meet you, she couldn’t contain herself, practically latched onto you
and she didn’t fully understand what happened to tony
you saw your new room for the first time and didn’t leave it for a while, occasionally pepper or morgan would pop in
morgan actually crawled into bed with you a few times
the funeral was one of the worst days of your life
the remnants of your young life pulled back together for one day
then you hid back in your room before you heard a knock
“who is it?”
“it’s happy”
“come in”
“hey, kiddo. me and morgan are gonna get some cheeseburgers, you wanna come?”
she really was a stark
after a long hibernation, you started to get back into the groove of your old life
but the press was brutal and harsh, you were bombarded with questions regarding your dad
it took everything not to explode on camera
you stayed in contact with the rest of the avengers, mourning your dead, keeping the support system, staying a family
it was all you could get...for now
