Dungeons, Dragons, and Dabihawks
"… and as you stand above the corpse of the demon werewolf vampire god-lord, watching the life leave his eyes, what do you do?" Iguchi asked breathlessly, his eyes on his party's rogue.
"I roll to seduce!" Their barbarian cried out.
"Rumi, it's not your turn!" Keigo, ever the rule-lawyer, immediately scolded.
"Yeah, don't ruin the moment." Tenko added, fidgeting with his dice.
Rumi just stuck out her tongue, while Touya shook his head and turned back to their DM. "Dabi leans down until he's nose to nose with the lord and says, "This is the end of our dance. Burn in hell, father," before he drives his flaming daggers even deeper into his chest."
There was a moment's pause, letting the gravity of the situation hang, as Iguchi nodded proudly. "You stand up-" He began.
"I then turn around and stomp over to our cleric," Touya started at the same time. They both paused for a second, but Iguchi nodded for him to continue, "and I go, "Hey.""
Iguchi raised an eyebrow, but glanced at Keigo. "Okay? Hawk, you are currently bleeding from several wounds and covered in the ash of felled demons, trying to heal your party warlock, when Dabi walks up to you." He directs.
"Well, first I heal Tomura with my first level healing spell. Sorry," He added to Tenko, "it's all I've got left. I'm almost out of spells."
"It's okay. Tomura is grateful for the help." Tenko shrugged, as Keigo picked up his dice and rolled.
"You heal eight health. After that, I look up at Dabi and go, "Yeah?" as I get to my feet." Keigo added.
All eyes turned to Touya again as he cleared his throat. "Dabi looks him up and down for a moment, the elation of having murdered his father still pumping in his tiefling veins, before he says, "My oath to the Flaming Revenge God is fulfilled, now. Thank you for helping me get here.""
"Hawk smiles and nods. "Of course, Dabi. You're welcome."" Keigo grinned, a faint blush creeping across his cheeks.
""We helped, too, you know!" Mirko yells from across the room, where she's currently looting bodies." Rumi piped up.
""Of course. Thank you, too, Tomura and Mirko. But, Hawk," He turns back to the cleric, "Do you remember the night we spent in the dragon giant's castle, after we slayed them, and we stargazed?"" Touya was blushing, too, now, the click of his dice filling the quiet as he fidgeted with them.
Keigo nodded. ""Of course I do. Why do you ask?""
Touya took a deep breath. "Dabi takes a second to gather himself and says, "I had something I wanted to say to you, then, but I... I was too afraid, then. I couldn't let anything distract me from my oath. But now... Hawk, I love you. I have for a long time, ever since you saved my life in the Fairy War.""
Rumi and Tenko, as one, dropped their jaws, as Iguchi's eyebrows rose into his unkempt mohawk. There was a stunned silence as Touya and Keigo stared at each other, their faces beet red as they role-played this confession. After a few seconds, Iguchi prompted, "Hawk? Anything to say?"
Keigo jumped. "Oh- uh, yes! Hawk, he… he looks down at his holy pendant for a moment, before he mutters, "Goddess give me strength." Then- then he steps closer to Dabi and," Keigo choked for a second, "um, he- he leans up and kisses him." Keigo and Touya, who had previously been staring at each other, quickly looked away with nervous, albeit excited giggles. ""I… I love you, too, Dabi."" Keigo squeaked, his voice cracking in and out of his character voice.
"Oh, for god's sake, you two!" Rumi exclaimed, out of character, "You've been dating since middle school! Why are you blushing?! It's a pretend confession!"
She, Tenko, and Iguchi laughed, as Touya and Keigo stammered and fumbled, flustered as they were.
"Well, we-" Keigo tried.
"It's not like we've declared ourselves like this before!" Touya exclaimed.
"That's true, you just wrote him a note in seventh grade, didn't you?" Tenko mused.
"And gave it to me after soccer practice." Keigo nodded, sighing fondly. "It had a poem."
"Awwww." Rumi drawled, teasing, only to have to duck as Touya threw a pencil at her. "Hey!"
"Watch it, or Mirko will find a dagger in her tit." He growled, his blush somehow getting darker.
"You can fucking try! She's a half-orc, she's got tits of steel!" Rumi boasted, to which the whole party fell apart into laughter again.
"Okay, okay!" Iguchi called, trying to reestablish order, "Back to the game, guys. What's everyone doing?"
"Well, while our cleric and rogue are making out, Tomura gets up and limps towards Mirko." Tenko began to grin, "He walks up to her and goes, "Hey. You remember the night we killed a bunch of farmers in a bar?""
Rumi snickered. "Mirko stops her looting and turns to the tiny drow talking to her. "Yes?""
The two of them were both grinning now, both on the same page and fighting laughter. ""Well, I just wanted to tell you that ever since that night, I've been in love-""
"NO, NO, NO!" Touya shouted, as Rumi and Tenko cracked up.
They devolved into squabbles and laughter again, and Iguchi rolled his eyes to the ceiling. He let them go for a minute, before he piped up, "And suddenly, the wall behind the Flame Skull Throne blasted open, and an ancient red demon dragon, the pet of the god-lord, steps in."
Rumi, Touya, Keigo, and Tenko all froze, whipping around to stare at their DM.
"R- really?" Keigo asked hesitantly.
Iguchi tapped his phone to check the time; it was nearly three in the morning. "We'll find out next week, I guess." He shrugged.
"What?! No! No, you can't leave it there!" Tenko protested.
"Yeah! What! We can't fight a dragon, we're all nearly dead!" Rumi protested.
"You're alive enough to stand around making love confessions." He pointed out, before he sighed, "Don't worry, I'm not going for a TPK. Not this late in the game."
The other four looked at each other, before they reluctantly nodded. "Okay. That was a fun session, though!" Keigo said brightly.
"Yeah, it was! We killed my dad!" Touya cheered. The group laughed, before they began to clean up the game.
…
"So how long have you been planning on having Dabi confess?" Keigo asked as he and Touya laid on the pull-out couch in Iguchi's living room; the whole party was sleeping over since it was so late, with Tenko in Iguchi's room and Rumi in the guest room.
"How long have we been playing?" Touya shrugged, rolling onto his side to face him.
"Two years?!" Keig gasped.
"Look- it took me since we were four for me to tell you in real life. Two years is a record, for me." Touya defended himself, and the two of them giggled.
"Well, I'm glad he did. Hawk likes him very much. I hope Iguchi doesn't think we're meta-gaming."
"I think he thinks we're dorks." Touya snorted.
"We are." Keigo agreed, smiling. He leaned over and kissed Touya's cheek. ""I love you, Dabi."" He said in his character voice.
Touya snickered. ""I love you, too, Hawk.""
End.
