“I’ll do it in five minutes.”
“Just two more minutes and then I’ll get up.”
“Well it’s 6:02 and the day is about to end, I guess I’ll start tomorrow only.”
This is what Shreya said to herself whenever she was about to sit down to study. The moment there was anything that needed to be done, it always happened at the very last minute. Be it studying, getting ready to go outside, or getting up to close the door. “Two minutes more on Instagram, then I’ll do it.” Those two minutes never ended. She always ended up being stressed about the deadline and doing a sloppy job, unable to give her best.
If you have caught yourself making excuses to postpone your work, you are caught in the cycle of procrastination. Procrastinating is nothing but a pressure-building machine that makes you stressed about the work you’ll have to do in the last hour. It is not healthy to let the pressure build up. Multiple studies have proven that individuals, especially students who procrastinate are at an increased risk of having high-stress levels as compared to those who don’t. Procrastination leads to high levels of stress at the workplace, deterioration in one’s mental health, and low life satisfaction is reported. 
Here are some strategies you can use to become efficient.
Don’t stress yourself for procrastinating
Now that you have spent your time procrastinating do not waste time further by blaming yourself. Rather than thinking what would have happened if you had started your work ten minutes ago, start working and make the ten minutes that you have now count. Lost time cannot be bought back but the present can be used wisely. 
Just work for 15 minutes
Okay you do not want to work right now, don’t. Just work for 15 minutes now and then take the well-deserved break you want. Tricking your brain into working for just 15 minutes rather than on the whole project at once can help you get started. Once you have seen the work and started a little, you will be motivated to do more and not procrastinate. 
Set goals and reward yourself
Don’t let the deadline be the motivating factor in your life. Break down your work into smaller chunks and after completion of each part, reward yourself. This could be a chocolate, an episode of Friends, or a short nap. You choose your reward for the effort and work that you put in.
Ask your friends to help
If you find yourself not being able to give up procrastination, have a friend hold you accountable for your progress. Ensure that they are someone who will check in on you and be strict if you start to miss your deadlines. In case you both have a similar schedule, tie up your work progress with them. 
Provide yourself incentives to stay on task
Whenever you feel like giving up work and putting it off for some time later, bribe yourself with food, gifts, relaxing time, anything that would motivate you to stay on task. It does not have to be big, it could be as small as five minutes on Instagram. 
It’s okay if you miss one task in the schedule: Make a schedule for all the work you need to do that day. It is the best thing if you could complete all of them on time. In case you miss the time frame for a task, leave it and start working on the next one. Don’t worry about it, you’ll find time to do it later.
Remember the best way to deal with procrastination is to find the inner motivation to guide you rather than relying on deadlines. Rather than letting your stress levels shoot up to the sky and negatively affect your mental health, find what motivates you. Use it to incentivize yourself into working. 
Procrastination can lead to stress and anxiety. Get yourself assessed if you feel anxious or stressed. You should also seek therapy if you feel that because of procrastination you are being unproductive, starting to feel worthless, anxious, or stressed.

here's the reason you procrastinate
based on Fuschia Sirois' research
everyone procrastinate at some point. research suggests that almost 1 in 4 people procrastinate on a fairly regular basis, and the rates are even higher among college and university students ( 50% of them procrastinate regularly and about 85-90% do so occasionally ).
because procrastination is so common we tend not to put too much thought into it, in the end what is the problem? it's just delay.
well, it's not. actually procrastination is harmful delay ( so defined by the researchers ); it is a form of delay which is:
voluntary
unnecessary
involves important tasks which you intended to do
people often underestimate the consequences of procrastination and how debilitating and harmful it can be. if you delay dealing with ( for example ) your academic works, of course you can expect some negative results in that area, but what about the collateral consequences of it?
research has shown that people who have problems with procrastination have low physical and mental health and practice less healthy behaviors. they deal with depression, stress and anxiety.
just think about the enormous amount of stress that procrastination brings: first of all, constantly chasing deadlines. deadlines can nag anyone, even those who don't struggle with delaying, but then it ends, the job is turned in, and everything goes back to normal. for procastinators this is not the case, they will keep putting off important things and will constantly end up with an imminent deadline.
so, if it's so harmful for your health, why do people do it? some people think it's about laziness or poor time managment, but actually:
laziness isn't procrastination. if you're lazy you don't have the energy to do anything, instead procrastinators are always busy with a thousand non-essential tasks to do, in fact they avoid doing one specific task, not every task ( for example if i need to study, but i'm procrastinating it, i end up cleaning my room )
poor time managment it's actually a symptom of procrastination, not a cause.
from a psychological perspective the origins of procrastination are rooted in negative emotions and the urge to cope with them through avoidance. so actually procrastination is about poor mood managment, not poor time managment.
procrastination starts when we have a task that's unpleasant, but we have to do it. and we use procrastination then as a way to get relief from those negative emotions associated with the task, so basically it's not even about avoiding the task, but it's about avoid the negative emotions that we associate with the task.
we need to avoid stress and aversive feeling that come with the task, especially when we don't feel like we can manage those negative emotions at the moment. so we take the task, we put it aside, and it's instant relief. it's fast, it's easy and it works for a little while, then that sense of shame, guilt and self-blame starts to kick in.
so why do we keep procrastinating? for that sense of relief, because that made us feel rewarded and we tend to repeat behaviors that rewarded us. this can easily lead to a cycle of procrastination.
however, the negative thoughts that we have ( "why didn't i start earlier?", "i'm letting myself down" etc. ) don't actually make us take action. they just add layers of layers on pre-existing negativity.
so how do you get out of the procastination cycle?
go back to valuing your task, if it's so important that you do it, remind yourself why you are doing it
remember that we tend to overestimate the discomfort that a given challenge will bring us. probably your task isn't even that time-consuming, unpleasant and frustrating
be compassionate and and forgive yourself, it's an effective strategy to reduce the negative emotions associated with the task. you are not the first nor the last person to procrastinate, we are all human and we all make mistakes. research has shown that doing so reduces the risk of procastination.

Finish what you started and transform your productivity
Recently i picked up a book i hadn't read in a long time for the past week i hadn't been able to work properly my tasks were going unfinished so i opened my cupboard and saw that book right in front of me. Then i read the whole book in just a one night and it sparked inspiration in me ..So i thought why not share everything i learned with all of you?
So I'm giving you guys a structured summary of Finish The Art of Following Through - Taking Action, Executing & Self Discipline by Peter Hollins -
1. The Importance of Execution
The ability to follow through allows you to create the life you desire rather than settling for the one you currently have. The process consists of focus, self-discipline, action, and persistence
2. Barriers to Follow Through
- Inhibiting Tactics: These include setting bad goals, procrastination, succumbing to distractions, and poor time management.
- Psychological Roadblocks: These encompass laziness, fear of judgment or failure, perfectionism driven by insecurity, and lack of self-awareness.
3. Staying Motivated
To remain motivated holds both external and internal motivators -
- External Motivators: These involve utilizing other people or resources to encourage action, such as accountability partners upfront investments and self bribery
- Internal Motivators: These focus on understanding personal benefits and improvements. Ask yourself questions such as How will this benefit me? and How will my life improve?

- False Hope Syndrome: Avoid unrealistic expectations and set achievable goals.
- Overthinking: Avoid excessive rumination and focus on taking action.

Establish daily behaviors that promote consistency and long term success

The good procrastinator accepts the fact that she can’t get everything done, then decides as wisely as possible what tasks to focus on and what to neglect. By contrast, the bad procrastinator finds himself paralysed precisely because he can’t bear the thought of confronting his limitations. For him, procrastination is a strategy of emotional avoidance — a way of trying not to feel the psychological distress that comes with acknowledging that he’s a finite human being. The limitations we’re trying to avoid when we engage in this self-defeating sort of procrastination frequently don’t have anything to do with how much we’ll be able to get done in the time available; usually, it’s a matter of worrying that we won’t have the talent to produce work of sufficient quality, or that others won’t respond to it as we’d like them to, or that in some other way things won’t turn out as we want. The philosopher Costica Bradatan illustrates the point by means of a fable about an architect from Shiraz in Persia who designed the world’s most beautiful mosque: a breathtaking structure, dazzlingly original yet classically well proportioned, awe-inspiring in its grandeur yet wholly unpretentious. All those who saw the architectural plans wanted to buy them, or steal them; famous builders begged him to let them take on the job. But the architect locked himself in his study and stared at the plans for three days and nights — then burned them all. He might have been a genius, but he was also a perfectionist: the mosque of his imagination was perfect, and it agonised him to contemplate the compromises that would be involved in making it real. Even the greatest of builders would inevitably fail to reproduce his plans absolutely faithfully; nor would he be able to protect his creation from the ravages of time — from the physical decay or marauding armies that would eventually reduce it to dust. Stepping into the world of finitude, by actually building the mosque, would mean confronting all that he couldn’t do. Better to cherish an ideal fantasy than to resign himself to reality, with all its limitations and unpredictability. Bradatan argues that when we find ourselves procrastinating on something important to us, we’re usually in some version of this same mindset. We fail to see, or refuse to accept, that any attempt to bring our ideas into concrete reality must inevitably fall short of our dreams, no matter how brilliantly we succeed in carrying things off — because reality, unlike fantasy, is a realm in which we don’t have limitless control, and can’t possibly hope to meet our perfectionist standards. Something — our limited talents, our limited time, our limited control over events, and over the actions of other people — will always render our creation less than perfect. Dispiriting as this might sound at first, it contains a liberating message: if you’re procrastinating on something because you’re worried you won’t do a good enough job, you can relax — because judged by the flawless standards of your imagination, you definitely won’t do a good enough job. So you might as well make a start.

@magdacimy since you asked for more, here's my thoughts on a lestappen time loop fic
so the 2019 austrian gp takes place as usual, lestappen tension followed by the infamous instagram unfollowing. but in the morning they both wake up to find it's the exact same day. and it happens again the next morning.
only neither of them are aware that the other is also stuck in a time loop.
naturally, charles assumes this is some sort of way of the universe giving him a chance to fix what happened and win, right? so he continuously relives this day focusing solely on trying to change this outcome.
max, after driving himself mad repeating this same day for seemingly no reason, assumes that his battle with charles on the track might be the cause. and so he tries his best to avoid any contact with him.
except he's unaware that charles has memorised all of his movements so when he changes his strategy up it throws him off and they end up crashing each other out.
it doesn't matter who wins. doesn't matter if they make contact at all or not. every time they relive this day they both end up fighting. be it in the cooldown room before the cameras show up, or at the side of the track for the whole world to see.

it isn't until, on what must be the 12th go of it now, charles makes a comment about how he's so sick of having this same argument, that they even realise that they're not the only one stuck in the loop.
through working together trying to figure out how to fix this they grow closer and eventually stop fighting and then one day they don't unfollow each other. hell, maybe they even follow one another to bed who knows. either way, there's definitely a spark there and the next time they wake up it's finally, finally a new day.

Tips for Autistic Students
I managed to get really good grades both at school and university, but it involved a LOT of emotional anguish. I had this reputation of being really smart and nerdy, but the truth was I had to put in an almost inhumane amount of effort in order to sustain my grades. I lost perspective and sacrificed other aspects of my life - such as building friendships and having experiences - that I'm still catching up with, now.
If I had to do it all again, knowing I'm autistic, there are definitely some things I would change that would have made my life as a student so much more enjoyable. Read on to learn from my mistakes!
Spend time going over the things you aren't so sure on - I wasted a lot of time reading over and over stuff that I could recite off by heart, but to be honest I don't think it made one iota of difference to my grades. I tended to avoid the scary stuff I was struggling with, but with hindsight this would have been a much more productive use of my time. Identify the areas you know you are weaker in, and focus on plugging those gaps in your knowledge rather than aimlessly wading through course materials.
Look after yourself - it's all too easy when you're looking to get good grades to totally overwork yourself. But this can actually be counterproductive as when you are tired/stressed you are actually more likely to make mistakes and underperform. Try making a studying timetable for yourself, and make sure it has a cut off point so you know when to stop. Trust me - grades are not worth burning yourself out over.
Give yourself plenty of time to complete assignments/study for tests and exams - it's very common to hear other people on your course bragging about how the started a essay 2 hours before the deadline and still got an A, but don't listen to them. More than likely they're lying or at least exaggerating, but they are also NOT you. You don't need to compare yourself to anyone else. For most autistic people - even those with executive function issues who are prone to procrastination - having to do things last minute can lead to overwhelm and burnout. A neurotypical person may be able to handle this approach, but for neurodivergent people this strategy could lead to a fallout period where you would need to recover. Starting ahead of time will allow you to pace yourself and ensure you have the chance to ask for help or clarification if necessary.
Try and make a few friends in every class - socialising often doesn't come easy to autistic people, but I promise going to class is much more bearable if you have a least one friendly face to look forward to seeing. Statistically speaking there is a really good chance there is someone else who is neurodivergent, and you likely can relate to each other's experiences more than a neurotypical person's. It also gives you people to arrange to hang out with outside of class, which is how friendships are built and sustained. Just a simple 'good morning' or complimenting someone on their clothes is enough to begin building a rapport.
Pay attention to your sensory needs - it's much easier to concentrate and take in information if you are comfortable. If the sun is in your eyes or if your desk is wobbly, ask if you can switch seats. If having a stim toy in your hand helps you concentrate, do what you need to do to get permisson to use one. Advocating for yourself can be scary, but it makes such a difference to your experience.

What If: Chisato and Takina had Witch Forms?
So about two and half months ago, Chisato Nishikigi and Takina Inoue came to Magia Record as puella magi, but with a catch, instead of receiving doppels, they instead had second magias! They clearly had the means uses doppels, but didn't, perhaps it was the studio were avoiding making the more lighthearted anime girls become twisted and monstrous. Well, after a lot of painstaking procrastination, I made hypothetical witch forms for them!!

LYCORIS RADIATA (Chisato Nishikigi) The heartbeat witch. Its nature is absolute emotion. A witch born during times of great calamity. It feeds on the hope it harvest from humanity, converting it into energy it uses to fend off forces that could threaten human existence itself. Despite its great size and intimidating appearance, it is a sweet creature that invokes a great sense of joy to those who survey it. This witch is a pacifist, and will never put living creatures into harm's way, it does not share that view to soulless beings, such as incubators. As long as humanity believes in itself, this heart will keep beating, allowing life to move on.
The doppel of absolute emotion. Its form is a heartbeat.
LYCORIS SPRENGERI (Takina Inoue)The remora witch. Its nature is absolute logic. It patrols around Lycoris Radiata, gnawing upon the despair Radiata cannot filter off. It converts this despair into energy into its weapon, a great beast in the form of a cannon. Instead of choosing the most amicable strategies like Radiata, it goes for the most tactical strategies, such as if millions die for Lycoris Radiata's sake, so be it. Sometimes, Sprengeri spends its time upon Radiata, listening to its heartbeat. The doppel of absolute logic. Its form is a remora.
Design Notes
For Radiata's design, I utilized Chisato's heart motifs, and the ripped metal beams from the old radio tower that Chisato protected by herself. The name Lycoris Radiata, comes from the red spiderlily
For Sprengeri's design, I made a remora, as Takina is shown to quite the oppurtunist, also she seems to uses huge-ass weapons a lot.
The name Lycoris Sprengeri, comes from the electric blue spiderlily, a lycoris flower that's not quite the iconic red spiderlily also both girls witches are based off the Sakana (fish) and Chinanago (garden eel) meme. I hope you enjoy these gals as much as I did making them!!

lessons learned ☕ winter 2024

i have completed the winter quarter!! yay!! i want to reflect on some lessons that i learned during the winter quarter.
🍞 do!! not!! procrastinate!! — i say this to myself every quarter, but this time, i am properly addressing it so that i can avoid procrastination in the next quarter. i had a bad habit of putting my assignments off at the last minute, or turn them in late if late work is accepted. i used to be impressed by my ability to finish a written assignment 30 minutes before the due time, but now i realize that the rush is just not worth it! i want to create work with quality that i can be proud of. better time management and self-discipline will make my next quarter much less stressful.
🍞learn to adapt — different subjects require different methods of learning. what works for one subject, does not always work for others. don't waste time "studying" if your study methods are not actually effective!! figure out which strategies result in better outcomes and focus on that.
🍞communicate with professors — this is especially important if i am taking online classes. one of my main struggles since starting college was not connecting with my professors. the lack of communication makes it so much more difficult to eventually reach out when i need help. go to office hours!! they have it available for students for a reason. advocate for yourself!!
🍞take advantage of resources provided by your school — my school offers free tutoring for students. i haven't visited the tutoring center because i wasn't sure how to ask for help. but i expect that i will need a lot of help next quarter to keep up with the learning material. i will make use of the tutoring services next quarter!
🍞remove distractions — i did a phone detox for a weekend and found that it was the most productive i have been in a long time! i will make an effort to be more conscious of my phone usage. having the discipline to actually turn off my phone and put it in a different room to avoid the temptation of checking my notifications.
🍞sleep! — i'm guilty of revenge bedtime procrastination! sacrificing my sleep for leisure time is not worth the tiredness i feel the next day. again, better time management will lead to more healthy habits.
🍞make time for friends — i learned that i shouldn't isolate myself for too long. studying can get lonely, especially during exam season when i get caught up in studying for long periods. i will try to schedule some time to socialize! it doesn't have to be a long schedule: it can be a quick coffee or lunch for good measure. having some positive interactions helps get me through the stress of school!
i'll be working harder next quarter to make sure that i don't continue having these issues! good luck to everyone taking finals!! 💌

I read an article on Business Insider that was called "How The 'Monk Mode' Productivity Hack Cured My Procrastination" and I was intrigued because I never heard of a study hack like this before! I learnt a lot from that post and researched more about it, so I'm here to share what I found! Hopefully it'll help someone!
So, are you struggling to concentrate on your work or studies? "Monk Mode" might be the solution for you! By eliminating distractions and committing to a single task, you can achieve a state of intense focus and productivity.

What is Monk Mode?
Monk Mode is a term used to describe an intense and focused approach to studying or working. It involves eliminating distractions and other activities that may interfere with your concentration, and committing to a single task for an extended period of time.

It is dialing in on what’s really important and eliminating everything that’s not important so you can have the time, energy, focus, and money to really create what it is that you want.” - Gavin Speaks on YouTube
When you enter Monk Mode, you essentially dedicate yourself entirely to your studies, blocking out all other distractions and activities until you have achieved your goal. This can involve turning off your phone or other electronic devices, avoiding social media, limiting interactions with others, and even setting up a designated study space that is free from distractions.
The steps to Monk Mode
Create a distraction-free environment
Set a clear goal
Prioritize your work
Eliminate decision fatigue by planning ahead
Create to-do lists
No multitasking
Set a realistic timeframe to be in Monk Mode
Take breaks
Stay hydrated
Use headphones
Limit social interactions
Use productivity tools
Stay consistent as it creates a habit
Evaluating your session at the end
Celebrate your successes
In terms of productivity tools, you could use the Pomodoro technique, "Eat The Frog", time blocking, Eisenhower Matrix, Kanban boards, mind mapping and 80/20 rule (also known as the Pareto Principle)! I'll make a post about these soon!
The Goal?
The goal of "Monk Mode" is to maximize your focus and productivity by minimizing any potential distractions or interruptions. This can help you to stay on track and achieve your goals in a more efficient and effective manner, allowing you to make the most of your study time and achieve better results.

Hey! I don't know if you've done a post on this already, and if you have, I'm sorry for asking again. But how do you practice discipline and self-control? It's something I struggle with a lot :/
I actually want to answer this a bit differently. We always opt to describing habits you need to adopt to be more disciplined, as well as tools and techniques. Things like, setting goals, creating a routine, setting a schedule, prioritizing, etc.
But no one ever talks about the mindset you need to have. It goes back to why we aren't disciplined in the first place.
For example, to be discipline you need:
Commitment: You need to be committed to your goals and the actions necessary to achieve them. This means being willing to make sacrifices and persevere through challenges.
Self-awareness: You need to be aware of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to recognize when you're losing focus or engaging in self-defeating behaviors. This can help you make conscious choices and adjust your actions accordingly.
Focus on the long-term: Having discipline and self-control often requires sacrificing short-term gratification for long-term gains. You need to be able to keep your eye on the big picture and avoid getting sidetracked by immediate pleasures or distractions.
Positive attitude: A positive attitude can help you stay motivated and resilient, even when facing obstacles or setbacks. Cultivate a growth mindset, embrace challenges as opportunities to learn, and celebrate your successes along the way.
Consistency: Discipline and self-control require consistent effort over time. Establishing a routine and sticking to it can help you build habits that support your goals.
But why aren't we disciplined?
Most people don't really have goals. Or their goals are so high and far from attainable in comparison to where they are now. Discipline is tied to confidence. We achieve a small task, we realize its possible... boosts confidence. Next task is a little bigger etc.
Because most don't do this there is:
Lack of motivation: Without a clear goal or strong motivation, it can be difficult to stay focused and disciplined. People may struggle to find a compelling reason to pursue their goals or to maintain the effort required to achieve them.
Poor time management: Without effective time management skills, it can be challenging to prioritize tasks and avoid distractions. People may struggle to balance competing demands on their time, leading to procrastination or incomplete tasks.
Negative self-talk: Negative self-talk can undermine motivation and confidence, making it difficult to maintain discipline. People may doubt their abilities or focus too much on their shortcomings, leading to feelings of frustration or hopelessness.
To overcome these barriers, people need to learn several key skills, including:
Goal-setting: Setting clear, achievable goals can help people stay motivated and focused. By breaking down larger goals into smaller, achievable steps, people can build momentum and stay engaged in the process.
Time management: Effective time management involves setting priorities, avoiding distractions, and scheduling tasks to maximize productivity. People can learn strategies such as batching tasks, setting deadlines, and using tools like calendars or productivity apps to stay organized and on track.
Positive self-talk: By cultivating a positive attitude and practicing self-compassion, people can develop the resilience needed to maintain discipline. Learning to reframe negative thoughts and focus on strengths and accomplishments can help people stay motivated and maintain their commitment to their goals.
Same goes with lack of self control. We lack self control because we are addicted to dopamine highs. We are quite literally not in control of our own lives, and are fueled by extreme emotions. You need to really want something. Accept delayed gratification. Motivate yourself by the end result and most importantly HOLD yourself accountable. Which will happen once you believe that you are truly able to achieve what you want.

ADHD and me aren’t on the best of terms with cleaning my room
But I do have some factors that’s helping to work a bit, so just wanna share (definitely not procrastinating for a moment on the cleaning):
-Listening to a stim playlist that’s fast paced; Keeps my brain stimulated and hyped with dopamine to let me push through with sorting through stuff
-Working in small sections; Like going with “Clear all the books off my bed” instead of “Clear my bed” as it helps make it a little less overwhelming than the overall task at hand
-Having a ‘deadline’ to meet; I have relatives coming up soon that need my room to stay in, so having that coming up fast helps fuel the need for a panic-fueled drive to get moving; Even if you don’t have guest coming, having the idea of a deadline you need to meet to get the thing clean may help push you to get it done
-Having the idea that someone is going to go into your room to clean things up instead of you can get myself moving to get cleaning, as I’ve seen with other ADHDers and Autistic folks, having someone ‘threaten’ to go clean your space can be stressing and to avoid having them go in to where needs to be cleaned can drive you to go get it done before they get the chance
These are definitely not a catch all advice and stuff, but some strategies to have in mind that could potentially help, and I hope that someone can find this helpful!
