Foolish Heart
Pairing: James Potter x Fem! Reader CW: James being oblivious to reader’s feelings, Sirius teasing, and as always- language. (1.7k words) Summary: You’ve had the biggest crush on James ever since you can remember, so imagine how hard it is to see your best friend since diapers pine over Lily Evans. The other Marauders decided to make James realize who he truly likes all along.
Note: I was listening to Hozier’s (my love) “Almost (Sweet Music)” When I suddenly thought of this idea randomly, soooooo yeah, enjoy! My updates might be slower now since I have school, but my requests/asks are still open if anyone wants to talk to me! I'd still be active on Tumblr : )
Tumblr media
Be still, my foolish heart. Don’t ruin this on me.
It was your mantra, every time you saw James. Everything he did was perfect in your eyes; the way he hummed, eyes twinkling as he thought of a plan on how to execute their pranks, down to the way he laughed. It was heavenly, dancing around the air, lingering- as if a beautiful melody waiting to be heard by you.
And yet, you were a silent audience, watching from a far distance as he basks in the glow of Lily Evans.
Lily. The name itself was a symphony, a haunting refrain that echoed in the back of your mind. She was everything you weren’t, couldn’t be—confident, radiant, and effortlessly captivating. Her hair, a cascade of fiery red, framed her face like a halo. And James? Well, he was her devoted troubadour, strumming his heartstrings to the rhythm of her laughter.
He was hypnotized by Lily’s glow; and you were fixed on his warmth. His laughter was like sunlight filtering through leaves, warming the coldest corners of your aching and bitter heart. You wondered if he knew the ache of unrequited love—the way it makes you feel like you’re drowning in heartache, making you gasp for air.
You’d known James since you were in nappies, a strong bond forming from cheeky smiles, little adventures, empty promises, bruised knees, and grass-stained bottoms. Childhood friends; both of you are inseparable. But, unknowingly to the bespectacled boy, you slowly saw him in a different light, making you crave more about what your current relationship with him is.
James was the sun, and you were the moon—forever caught in his orbit, but never close enough to touch.
You watched as he stumbled over his words, trying to impress Lily with Quidditch tales and his pranks. And you? You were the silent observer, scribbling poems in the margins of your potions textbook.
As you settled in your usual seat next to James in the great hall, Sirius grinned, a mischievous glint evident in his eyes. “Sit beside me, pretty girl!”  He pulled you next to him, slinging an arm around your shoulder as he grabbed an apple and handed it to you. “Good morning to you too, Paddie.” You rolled your eyes playfully, obliging and sitting next to the long-haired boy and grabbing your favorite fruit from his grasp.
Remus, the ever observant one out of the group knowingly looks at Sirius as if to say, ‘I know what you’re doing’. Peter only mumbled a ‘good morning’ before going back to shoving his breakfast in his mouth, blissfully unaware of the brewing tension.
James frowned; he didn’t like the change. Not. One. Bit.
This was new- you not sitting beside him? Can someone pinch him right now since the sod thinks he might be dreaming.
James kept his mouth shut, although he couldn’t help but glance every now and then at you and Sirius chatting across the table, sporting a frown as he stabbed the eggs with a rather excessive force before showing the food on his mouth. Of course, his actions didn’t go unnoticed in the eyes of Sirius Black.
“Something wrong, Prongs?” he asked, not even bothering to hide the grin on his face as he leaned in. Never once did James think he would like to see Sirius’ smirk wiped off his face.
“Y/n sits beside me.” His jaw clenched.
You tried your best to act nonchalantly, fighting off the blush forming in your cheeks as you felt the all too familiar butterflies in your stomach.
Ah, the heartache in those words—the unspoken longing. Remus had seen it before, masked behind his bravado. James Potter, the mischief-maker, the Quidditch star, the one who chased after Lily Evans with unwavering determination. But the werewolf knew better. He saw the way he looked at you when he thought no one was watching. The way his laughter softened when you were near. The way he defended you even when you didn’t need defending.
“So? Make Red sit beside you or something.” Sirius raised a brow. You looked at Sirius with a confused look on your face, just what was up with him today?
Red. Lily Evans. The one who James practically confesses his undying love for every week. You know damn well you were not Red, and that you will never be Red.
You were Y/n- the one who held his hand when he was scared of the dark, who followed him on little adventures throughout Potter Manor when you were kids, and the one who exchanged secrets with him with hushed whispers under the moonlit skies.
But being the sod he is, he did. He had hurt you again without even knowing as he invited Lily next to him.
It went on for several weeks, each passing day hurt more than the last. It seemed like he was slowly becoming out of your reach, but Sirius was there, offering you support, and secretly trying to make James realize that he’d been hopelessly in love with you ever since the beginning of time.
The unspoken tension between you grew thicker. Sirius and the others watched, amused and exasperated. Remus, the wise one, shared knowing glances with you. Peter, ever loyal, tried to be mediator between James’s heart and his head.
Then it finally happened, James couldn’t handle it anymore. He cracked.
You were the fresh air he takes in, the anchor that keeps him still, a constant presence in his life. James Potter knew it would hurt if you weren’t by his side, but Merlin- he didn’t know it would hurt this much. He wants you- he needs you.
One stormy night in the Gryffindor Common room was the time he decided to tell you what’s going on in his mind. It was the perfect timing, really. Only him, you and the other Marauders were present in the room, the other students already headed to the dorms, as it was almost curfew.
James sighed, finally standing, and walking towards your direction, his eyes were vulnerable. “Y/n,” he began, voice trembling as he stumbles over his words. “I’ve been an idiot.”
You hummed in agreement, trying to look busy as you reread the last sentence over and over in the page of your book, “That’s not new, Potter.”
“Lily—she’s not the one I want. It’s always been you.”
It felt like the whole world stopped, the fire that was roaring suddenly stilled, your friends sat silently, frozen in shock.  All you can hear is your heart thumping loudly in your chest.
James’ gaze bore into yours, his eyes searching for a response. His hand trembled where it reached for yours, holding it tightly, fearing you'd pull away from his touch.
“James, what? If this is some kind of ploy to play with me-“
“Y/n,” he said, his voice raw, “I’ve loved you since we were kids. I was a bloody fool to deny it every time I see you."
“James,” you whispered, your throat tight, “what about Lily?”
He cupped your face, his thumb brushing your cheek as he chuckled lightly "Evans had noticed it even before I did. Said I was a knobhead for not realizing sooner." he said.
James’s gaze softened.  “You’re the girl who followed me on little adventures, who defended me during Quidditch matches, who knows my deepest fears and silliest dreams. I was fucking terrified to ruin our friendship just because I saw you more than my best friend.”
Biting your lip, you felt the all-too-familiar tears pricking your eyes. His confession made your insides warm, fuzzy, and light. You never told him how you truly felt- keeping it to yourself as you watched him chase after Lily, being supportive of him even though it kills you inside. You could deal with that; you’d be happy as long as James would be happy. Even if it’s with Lily.
Although, he was here, in front of you. Telling you that he also loves you, that he hadn’t realized it until years after.
“James, you were never just a best friend to me.” You whispered, “I was scared- terrified that you would never see me in the way that I saw you. I didn’t tell you because I would rather love you in the sidelines rather than lose you altogether.”
James’ eyes softened, he leaned closer to you; his forehead touching yours, his breath fanning your lips as he smiled softly. “I wouldn’t let you do that now, you’d be in the center of my life, where you belong.”
He placed his hand gently on your back, pulling you closer to him. “Let’s not waste any more time, yeah? We already did that for most of our years already.” James didn’t wait for you to reply when he leaned down and kissed you, cupping your face gently.
Neither of you heard your friends cheering, the fire crackling, or the rain tapping out your window.
In that moment, it felt as if you and James were the only ones in the world, you were in your own little bubble of happiness. Both of you had foolish hearts, and it had finally found each other after years and years of looking.

Eddie was six years old when he first met Steve, not that he would remember it until much, much later.
The boy Eddie met that day was sweet and a little shy, perhaps because he was so small for his age. He was a year younger than Eddie, only five, which was forever in Eddie's eyes. He felt responsible for the little boy somehow, so he walked up to him on the deserted playground to make sure he was okay.
"'Ello!" Eddie exclaimed, holding out his hand for Steve to shake, like he'd seen his daddy do all the time when they were in town. His dad called it part of the Munson charm, whatever that was, and Eddie wanted to be as cool as his dad. "I'm Eddie, who are you?"
The boy looked up at Eddie with big eyes and made no move to take Eddie's hand, so Eddie reached out and took the boy's hand in his own and shook it wildly.
"See, that's how you do it. And then you say your name. Let's try it again!" Eddie decided, still pumping the boy's hand. "I'm Eddie."
"Steve," the boy said with a slight lisp, and Eddie thought maybe he hadn't said his name earlier because he was afraid Eddie would make fun of him for it. The other kids made fun of him a lot, for a lot of reasons that Eddie didn't really understand. All he knew was that he didn't like it; it made him sad. Especially since none of the other kids would play with him, so he had to go on his adventures all alone, fighting the big dragon without a trusted knight at his side.
Perhaps Steve could be his knight.
"Will you help me slay the big dragon, Steve?" Eddie asked, suddenly excited at the prospect of finally having someone to play with. "He stole all our gold, so we have to slay him!"
He was still holding Steve's hand, but he dropped it as he began to imitate how they would fight the beast with their swords. "I'm a mage because my mom says every fairy tale needs a good fairy or a mage to help the hero defeat the villain. And you can be that hero, Steve! I'll help you with my magic," Eddie promised, his whole face breaking into a wide grin.
Steve giggled, but Eddie thought it wasn't like the other kids laughing at him. It sounded nice, like Steve was enjoying Eddie's antics. "What do you think, Sir Steve?"
Between bursts of pearly laughter, Steve eagerly agreed, but then paused to ask Eddie in a suddenly serious tone, "But why don't you wanna be the hero?"
"I'm no hero, Stevie! I'm a mage, didn't you hear me? I can do magic to help the hero, because only together can we defeat the beast." Eddie explained in an equally serious tone, because killing dragons was serious business.
"Okay," Steve agreed. "How do we fight a dragon? I never fought a dragon before."
Eddie explained his plans to Steve, and together they ran and climbed around the playground in search of the dragon. It was the most fun Eddie had had in a long time. Steve was the best hero ever; he listened to Eddie's ideas and had some surprisingly fun ones of his own. They forgot everything around them, caught up in a world of make-believe, until a woman's voice startled them out of their play.
"Steve! Steven, where are you? If your parents come home and you're not there, they'll fire me," the woman grumbled before shouting again. "Steve!"
Eddie looked at Steve questioningly as the voice came closer.
"That's Lucy, she's looking after me 'cause my parents don't have time," Steve explained in a low voice. "I have to go." He looked very sad when he said that and Eddie already missed his bright smile.
"That's okay, Stevie, we can kill the dragon tomorrow!"
That made Steve perk up. "Yeah?"
"Yeah! I'll wait for you here tomorrow!"
"Thanks, Eddie!" Steve exclaimed, throwing his arms around Eddie in a tight hug before running off to find the woman.
The next day, Eddie was back at the playground as soon as he could get away from their house, telling his mama that he had finally made a friend and now they had to kill the dragon. "He's my hero, Mom, and I'm his mage, just like in the fairy tales!" He told her, and she hugged him tightly before making him and Steve two sandwiches, because "slaying dragons is hard work and makes you hungry'.
Steve wasn't there when Eddie arrived at the playground, so Eddie sat down on the swings and waited for his new friend.
He waited until the first signs of dawn reached the playground, and he had to eat both sandwiches because he was hungry, and drink all the water his mama had packed.
Eddie only left when it got dark, and he knew his mama would be worried. But he was back the next day, and the next. Every day for weeks, Eddie waited for Steve on the swing, always wondering why his new friend didn't want to play with him anymore.
Tumblr media
Eddie never made a connection between his Stevie and King Steve. How could he, when King Steve was all aloof and arrogant, looking down on people like Eddie and walking the halls of Hawkins High with that haughty grin on his face. The boy wasn't his hero, and Eddie wouldn't dream of using his magic to help him.
Funnily enough, the first time Steve's sight sparked any kind of recognition in Eddie was when Eddie pinned him against a boathouse wall with a bottle against his neck. Stripped of his usual confidence by surprise and fear, Steve looked somehow... small. He sounded even smaller as he tried to reassure Eddie that he meant no harm, and the sound of his voice made something tingle at the back of Eddie's mind.
Steve was different than Eddie had expected, to say the least.
At times, he was snarky and bitchy. But not in the mean way he had been in high school. He was all bark and no bite. And he was good to Eddie's sheep, to all the kids, really. Like a big brother, a protector. A knight in shining armor who stood between them and danger.
And not just for the kids, for everyone.
Steve jumped into a dark, deep lake not knowing what awaited him; fought demonic bats with bare hands and teeth, losing more flesh than seemed healthy.
Steve was a hero, and later Eddie berated himself for not realizing it sooner, but hindsight is 20/20, and he only understood that Steve Harrington was indeed his Stevie when it was too late to do anything about it.
Eddie was almost sure when they stole the RV together, because the way Steve grinned at him just before they switched positions and Steve sped out of the trailer park reminded him so much of the sweet boy he once knew.
The boy he never really stopped waiting for.
When Steve asked Dustin and Eddie not to be cute, not to be heroes, he decided to test his theory.
"We're not heroes," he told Steve, and when Dustin said “you can be the hero, Steve” Eddie was watching his face for any sign of recognition. He could have sworn he saw a flicker of it in Steve's eyes. That was the moment he almost, almost asked outright.
Eddie even called out to him, the words on his tongue, "Why didn't you come back? I was waiting for you.' But in the end he decided against it. What use was there? They had bigger problems to deal with right now. He would ask Steve later, when it was all over. He would tell him that he had been waiting for him all this time and that he was glad that Steve had come back to him.
They would talk later.
Only later wouldn't come, Eddie realized as he tasted his own blood in his mouth and stared into Dustin's frightened, tearful eyes.
And then Steve was there, holding his hand, begging him, pleading with him to stay, not to die. Eddie couldn't promise him that, but he had promised him something else, and he wanted Steve to know that he had never broken that promise.
"I waited for you, Stevie. Every..." Eddie coughed wetly, more blood flooding his mouth, and he suppressed the grimace to keep smiling at Steve. "Every day. I knew you'd come back. Worth... the wait," Eddie whispered, his voice fading. Eddie was fading fast.
In the distance he heard Steve's voice begging him to stay, he needed his mage by his side, and the last thing he thought was that he was sorry he had to leave before he could see Steve slay their dragon, but he hoped his magic had helped enough.
Tumblr media
The next time Eddie was able to think and feel, it was like waking up from the worst hangover ever. Everything hurt, even his hair.
Slowly opening his eyes to a thankfully dimly lit room, he winced at the sharp pain in his head. It made moving his head even more torturous, but Eddie had to know where he was. Looking around as much as he could, he realized several things.
He was in a hospital bed with monitors beeping softly beside him.
It was night, with only a small bedside lamp providing some light.
Steve Harrington was asleep next to him, his arms crossed on Eddie's bed and his head resting on them.
Eddie must have made some sort of noise at the sight, because at that moment Steve jumped to his feet, ready to fight or flight.
Then he looked at Eddie and a myriad of expressions played across his face. Most of them passed too quickly for Eddie to decipher, but he's sure he saw surprise and joy. Wonder, definitely, but maybe fear, too, though Eddie had no idea why Steve would be afraid of him.
"Steve," Eddie croaked, his throat like sandpaper. The sound of his name was enough to jolt Steve into action and he hurried over to Eddie's bedside table. Seconds later, a straw was held to his mouth and blessedly cool water filled his mouth and ran down his throat.
"Thank you," he told Steve when the cup was empty and he felt more like a human being again. A badly mangled human being, but he took what he could get. "What happened? Is everyone..."
"Vecna is dead. Everyone made it out alive." Eddie let out a breath he didn't even know he was holding. "That's all you need to know for now. I'll tell you the rest tomorrow, okay? You should get some more rest. You... we almost lost you."
Steve looked shattered as he said this and Eddie finally noticed the dark bags under his eyes. Steve's hair worried him even more. It looked greasy and unkempt, worse than it had even looked in the Upside Down.
Eddie was afraid to ask, but he had to know. "How long..."
"Twenty days. They couldn't tell us when you'd wake up. If you'd wake up." His voice broke at the words, and Eddie tried to lift his hand to soothe and comfort, but it weighed a million pounds.
"I'm sorry I kept you waiting so long, Stevie," he said instead, hoping to ease Steve's pain with his words instead. But all it did was make Steve collapse, the bed the only thing breaking his fall. He was the one who reached for Eddie's hand then and held on to it like a lifeline.
"I'm sorry, Eddie. I'm the one who kept you waiting for years. I never went back to that playground. My babysitter didn't want to take me anymore because I ran away, and she almost lost her job. And then it had been years before I was old enough to go by myself and I couldn't... the thought of going there and you not being there was too much. And why should you be? Nobody would wait that long."
The "not for me" rang out between them and Eddie gathered all his strength to pull Steve's hand to his mouth. As he planted a kiss on the soft skin of the back of his hand, Eddie said in a low voice, "I did ... I waited all this time for you. This playground became my hound, once a day I would stop by, just in case. I always hoped you would come back."
Now it was Steve's turn to take Eddie's hand in his and place it gently on his cheek, planting a soft kiss on Eddie's palm.
Caressing Steve's lips with his thumb, Eddie smiled at the sweet boy he had waited a lifetime for. His hero.
"We did it, Stevie. We slayed the dragon!"
Steve's pearly laugh echoed through the room, silenced only by Eddie's lips as he leaned down to capture them in a fairy-tale kiss.

You hated these banquets, it was just a bunch of rich people trying to prove just how rich they were. If it wasn’t for the fact that you were childhood friends with the president’s daughter, you wouldn’t even be here.
Normally you wouldn’t be here, choosing to make some excuse to get out of it that Ashley would envy you for, but this dinner was an exception. It was to celebrate Ashley’s safe return home from being held hostage in Spain.
You’re here to support your friend, although she keeps being whisked away to talk to random people about her “adventure” like it was some thrilling vacation.
So here you sat, in the back of the room alone, with your own tray of champagne and a pen. What’s the pen for, you ask? Well, as you sat there, drinking and bored out of your mind, you looked down at your legs and realized something. The fishnet stockings you wore made for the perfect tic-tac-toe canvas.
And that’s how you’ve been spending the last ten minutes, playing a game of tic-tac-toe against yourself, when you hear someone clear their throat. You look up, a little sluggishly due to the alcohol in your system, and when you see who’s standing at your table, you’re eyes widen.
Leon S. Kennedy, aka the man who went all the way to Spain and saved Ashley, by himself.
You’ve met him before, briefly, when he first brought Ashley home, but you haven’t really seen him since. You were too focused on your friend to really register anything else.
But now that everything’s calmed down, and Ashley has reassured you that she’s alright, you finally take in the agent who rescued her.
And he looked… he looked good.
The man is wearing a three piece suit, the dress shirt and tie a dark grey and the outer coat a nice black, and he looked at you with amusement as he asked, “Are you playing tic-tac-toe… on your leg?”
You look down at your own leg, as if you needed to confirm that was what you were in fact doing, before looking back up at him, “And what if I am?”
Leon laughs, and it sounds so pretty that you instantly decide you need to hear it again. The man pulls out the chair next to you and sits down, “I’m not judging you, actually seems more entertaining than anything else here.”
“Ah a man with taste,” You say, and move your chair until it’s closer to his before propping your leg up on his lap, “Well then, Leon, X’s or O’s?”
Now it’s you looking at him with amusement as his eyes widen and flicker between your leg in his lap and your face, “You’re serious?”
“Very, now grab a glass and make your move.” You instruct, pushing the pen into his hand and grabbing your own glass before taking a swig.
Leon just looks at you for a moment, and then at the pen in his hand, and then your leg in his lap. You watch him with a raised eyebrow as he seems to shrug to himself, grabs a glass of champagne, down it in one go and then grab your leg, carefully drawing an X through a gap in your stockings.
You whooped a little louder than you meant to, making some of the guests nearby look at the both of you. Leon shushed you with a laugh, putting a hand over your mouth and you giggled, pleased with yourself for hearing that sound again.
Still giggling you took the pen from his grasp and looked at your leg, deciding where to place your move. Leon leaned over a little to watch as he said, “So this is gonna be really awkward since you clearly know my name-“
You let out a dramatic gasp, and look up just in time to watch him roll his eyes while fighting off a smirk, “You don’t know my name?!”
“You never-“
“Shame!”
“You never introduced yourself!” Leon defended himself, picking up another glass of champagne, “You just thanked me, hugged me and left!”
“I was a little preoccupied,” You glare playfully, drawing an O right next to his X, “My best friend just got back from being kidnapped, remember?”
“Yeah, I’m the one that saved her, remember?” Leon leaned closer and plucked the pen from your fingers.
You leaned in closer to, “Yeah, that’s why we’re both at this stupid thing, remember?”
His hand, that had stayed respectfully on your knee since he first touched you, slid a little higher. Your breath hitched at the feeling of his fingers getting caught in your tights and his hot breath fanning your face, “So are you gonna tell me your name, or are you gonna make me guess?”
You smirk and open your mouth-
“Ahem,” The sound of someone clearing their throat startled both of you.
You and Leon jumped away from each other with lightning speed, so fast you about fell out of your chair trying to get your legs off his lap. When you looked up you saw none other than Ashley Graham herself, wearing a shit eating grin as she tried not to laugh.
“Ashley,” You greeted nonchalantly, raising an empty champagne glass toward her.
“Y/N,” Ashley said, unable to hold in a chuckle. You see Leon look at you from your peripheral and sigh, bummed you didn’t get to tell him your name yourself.
“Leon,” Ashley says then, and the agent sits up instantly, looking at the blonde girl, “My dad’s been looking for you.”
“Oh, uh,” Leon looked at you, and you looked back at him with a sad smile. He returned the smile and with a small sigh he stood up, “Right, thanks Ashley.”
“Of course, bye Leon.” Ashley smiled knowingly, and you could’ve sworn you saw the agent blush.
“Bye. It was nice to officially meet you, Y/N.” Leon said, giving you one last smile before walking away, leaving you with your friend.
“Why do you have X’s and O’s on your leg?”
…and ink on your leg.

As you strolled down the familiar streets of your hometown, memories flooded back from your childhood. The laughter, the adventures, and the bond you shared with Christopher Bahng, the leader of Stray Kids, seemed like a distant yet cherished echo.
Christopher, or Chris as you fondly called him, had always been your partner in crime. From building makeshift forts in the backyard to dreaming about conquering the world with your talents, your friendship knew no bounds.
Years had passed since Chris left your small town to pursue his dreams in South Korea. The world had known him as a rising star, a beacon of talent and charisma leading Stray Kids to fame and success. But to you, he was still the same old Chris, the boy with endless dreams and an infectious smile.
You were lounging on your couch, scrolling through your phone when a message pops up.
Chris: Hey, you there?
You: Yeah, what's up?
Chris: I'm back in town for a break. Let's catch up over dinner tonight?
You: Definitely! It's been ages since we hung out. Where do you want to go?
Chris: How about that burger joint we used to love?
You: Sounds good! See you there at 7?
Chris: Perfect! Can't wait to see you!
You grin, excited to see Chris after so long. Memories of your mischievous adventures flood back as you head to the burger joint.
As you arrive, Chris is already there, leaning against the wall, looking as cool as ever.
"Hey, stranger!" you exclaim, approaching him.
He grins, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Hey, you! Long time no see."
You both settle into a booth, exchanging stories and laughing like old times.
"So, how's life as a K-pop star treating you?" you ask, taking a big bite of your burger.
Chris rolls his eyes playfully. "Oh, you know, the usual. Dance practices, fan meetings, and dodging crazy rumors."
You chuckle. "Must be tough being an international heartthrob."
He shrugs. "Eh, someone's gotta do it."
Throughout dinner, you reminisce about your childhood antics, from building forts to pulling pranks on neighbors.
"Remember the time we tried to skateboard down that steep hill and ended up in the bushes?" Chris laughs, shaking his head.
"How could I forget? We were lucky we didn't break any bones," you reply, laughing along.
As the night wears on, you realize how much you've missed Chris's company. Despite his fame, he's still the same goofball you grew up with.
During dinner, in between bites of burgers and sips of soda, Chris leans in and asks about your life.
"So, what have you been up to, besides stalking me on social media?" he teases, a playful glint in his eyes.
You chuckle, taking a sip of your drink before replying, "Oh, you know, the usual grind. Work, family stuff, trying not to embarrass myself too much."
Chris nods, genuinely interested. "How's work treating you?"
You shrug. "It's been busy, but I can't complain. Pays the bills, you know."
He nods sympathetically before his expression brightens with curiosity. "And what about your family? How's everyone doing?"
You smile, glad to share. "They're good, thanks for asking. Mom's still the same old mom, doting on everyone. Dad's busy with his projects, and my sister's off on her own adventures."
Chris nods along, listening intently. Then, with a mischievous twinkle in his eye, he leans in a little closer. "So, any special someone in your life? Or are you still single and ready to mingle?"
You roll your eyes, but there's a hint of laughter in your voice. "Oh, you know me, Chris. Still navigating the treacherous waters of singledom."
He laughs, giving you a knowing look. "Well, if you ever need a wingman, you know who to call."
You both share a laugh, the easy banter flowing between you like it always has.
As the conversation continues over dinner, you can't help but inquire about Chris's fellow Stray Kids members.
"So, how are your kids?" you ask, genuinely interested in catching up on his bandmates.
Chris's eyes light up as he talks about each member, sharing anecdotes and updates about their lives and careers. He laughs as he recounts their latest shenanigans during practice and on tour, painting a vivid picture of the bond they share.
"They're all doing great, still causing chaos wherever they go," he chuckles, a fondness evident in his voice.
Then, with a playful smirk, you decide to turn the tables on him. "So, Chris," you begin, raising an eyebrow playfully, "what's the deal with you? Any lucky lady catching your eye these days, or are you still playing the field?"
Chris chuckles, running a hand through his hair before settling back in his seat. "Ah, the eternal question," he quips, a hint of mischief dancing in his eyes. "As for my relationship status, let's just say I'm enjoying the single life for now."
You nod, understanding his stance. Being in the spotlight can undoubtedly complicate matters when it comes to romance.
"And what about all that flirting with fans?" you prod, unable to resist teasing him a bit. "Are you just a professional heartthrob, or is there more to it than meets the eye?"
Chris laughs, his grin widening. "Ah, you caught me," he admits, his tone light but genuine. "Flirting with fans is all part of the game, you know. It's about connecting with them, making them feel special. But at the end of the day, it's all in good fun."
You nod, appreciating his honesty. Being a K-pop idol comes with its own set of rules and expectations, after all.
As the night wears on, you continue to chat, trading stories and laughter until the restaurant begins to empty out around you. Despite the fame and the distance that separates you, tonight feels like old times, a reminder of the enduring bond you share with Chris, your childhood friend turned international superstar.
You and Chris make your way back home after dinner, laughter echoing through the streets, you can't help but marvel at the unexpected turn of events. The rain pours down relentlessly, catching you both off guard, but instead of seeking shelter, you find yourselves caught up in the moment, running through the streets like characters in a romance movie.
"This is insane!" you shout over the sound of the rain, unable to contain your laughter as you splash through puddles.
Chris grins, his eyes alight with exhilaration. "I know, right? Who knew we'd end up in the middle of a monsoon?"
You exchange glances, the sheer absurdity of the situation only adding to the sense of adventure. With each step, the rain pelts down harder, soaking you both to the bone, but neither of you cares. In this moment, nothing else matters except the sheer joy of being alive, of feeling the rain on your skin and the thrill of the unexpected.
As you round a corner, a small awning comes into view, offering temporary refuge from the storm. Without hesitation, you both dart beneath it, breathless and exhilarated, the adrenaline coursing through your veins.
"Wow, that was intense," you gasp, trying to catch your breath as you lean against the wall.
Chris nods, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "Tell me about it. Remind me to check the weather forecast next time we decide to go out for dinner."
You both burst into laughter, the shared moment bonding you even closer together. And as you stand there, drenched but deliriously happy, you can't help but feel grateful for the simple joys of friendship and spontaneity.
Chris chuckles, his laughter mingling with the sound of raindrops. "Well, you know what they say about spontaneity."
"Yeah, it definitely keeps life interesting," you reply, glancing up at the darkened sky above.
You glance up at Chris, his features illuminated by the soft glow of the streetlights, and for a moment, time seems to stand still. His eyes meet yours, sparking with an intensity you've never seen before, and in that moment, everything else fades away.
Feeling emboldened by the electric energy between you, you reach out and take Chris's hand, the warmth of his touch sending a shiver down your spine. Without a word, you continue running through the empty streets, the raindrops falling around you like a symphony of whispers.
As you round a corner, a small square comes into view, the cobblestones slick with rain. The soft strains of music drift through the air, beckoning you closer. With a smile tugging at the corners of your lips, you stop and turn to face Chris.
"Hey, do you want to dance with me?" you ask, your voice barely above a whisper.
Chris's eyes widen in surprise, his gaze flickering with uncertainty. But then, a slow smile spreads across his face, and he nods, his hand tightening around yours.
"Absolutely," he replies, his voice low and husky.
Together, you step onto the rain-soaked cobblestones, the world around you fading into a blur of colors and sounds. In this moment, there is only the two of you, moving in perfect harmony to the rhythm of the rain.
As you stand there, laughing, dancing, and soaked to the bone, you can feel the weight of his gaze, the unspoken tension hanging between you like a delicate thread. The air crackles with anticipation, charged with a magnetic energy that draws you closer together with every passing moment.
And then, in a bold and unexpected move, Chris reaches out, his hand finding yours with a gentle urgency. The warmth of his touch sends a jolt of electricity coursing through your veins, igniting a fire that burns brighter with each heartbeat.
With a wordless understanding, he draws you closer, his body pressed against yours in a dance as old as time. The rain falls around you, a steady rhythm punctuating the silence as you move together in perfect harmony.
His touch is electric, sending shivers racing down your spine as you lose yourself in the heat of the moment. Time seems to stand still as you surrender to the pull of desire, your heart beating in time with his, as you drown in the depths of his gaze.
In that moment, with the rain falling around you and the world spinning madly on, Chris leans in and kisses you. It's not a fleeting touch or a casual gesture – it's a declaration, a moment of raw and unbridled passion that leaves you breathless and wanting more.
His kiss is electric, sending shockwaves coursing through your body as you surrender to the intensity of the moment. Every brush of his lips against yours sets your heart ablaze, igniting a flame that burns brighter with each passing second.
In that stolen moment beneath the stormy sky, you lose yourself in the intoxicating rush of sensation, your senses overwhelmed by the taste of rain and the feel of his touch. It's a moment suspended in time, a glimpse into a world where passion reigns supreme and love knows no bounds.
As the rain continues to fall around you, you cling to each other, lost in the dizzying whirlwind of emotion. And in that moment, with Chris's lips pressed against yours, you know that you've found something worth holding onto, something worth cherishing for eternity.
You both break from the kiss, a shared breathless moment passing between you as you gaze into each other's eyes. The rain continues to fall, a gentle cadence echoing the pounding of your hearts.
Chris's voice breaks the silence, soft but filled with emotion. "Wow," he breathes, his eyes searching yours as if trying to unravel the depths of your soul.
You smile, feeling a rush of warmth and affection wash over you. "Yeah," you reply, your voice barely above a whisper. "Wow indeed."
There's a tangible energy between you, a connection that defies explanation. It's as if the universe itself has conspired to bring you together in this moment, under the cloak of a stormy sky.
Chris reaches out, his hand finding yours with a tenderness that takes your breath away. "I... I didn't plan for any of this," he admits, his voice tinged with vulnerability.
You squeeze his hand gently, reassuring him with a smile. "Me neither," you confess, feeling the weight of the moment settle between you like a comforting embrace.
For a moment, you simply stand there, lost in each other's gaze, the world fading away around you. In this moment, there are no expectations, no uncertainties – only the shared promise of what could be.
And as you stand there, hand in hand, you know that no matter what the future may hold, you'll face it together, bound by the unbreakable bond of love and possibility.
You can't help but let out a nervous laugh, the tension of the moment giving way to a lightheartedness that feels like a balm to your soul.
You shake your head, still incredulous at the whirlwind of emotions that brought you to this moment. "Who would've thought a rainy night and an life update dinner would lead to... this," you say, gesturing between the two of you with a mixture of disbelief and affection.
Chris smiles, his gaze softening as he looks at you. "Sometimes, life has a way of surprising us when we least expect it," he muses, his tone thoughtful.
You nod in agreement, feeling a sense of gratitude wash over you. "Yeah, I guess it does," you reply, your heart filled with a newfound sense of hope and possibility.
As you stand there, sharing a moment of levity in the midst of the storm, you realize that sometimes, the most beautiful connections are forged in the unlikeliest of circumstances.
Chris breaks the moment with a nervous laugh, his cheeks tinted with a rosy hue. "Um, so... I guess I should probably.. you know.. say something here, huh?"
You chuckle, feeling the warmth of his hand in yours. "Go on, Chris. Lay it on me."
He takes a deep breath, his expression earnest yet endearingly shy. "Okay, here goes. I... I've always admired you, you know? From the moment we met as kids, you've been this constant presence in my life. And tonight, being here with you, dancing in the rain... it just feels right."
Your heart swells at his words, touched by the sincerity in his confession. "Chris, that's... that's really sweet," you reply, unable to suppress the smile that tugs at your lips. "I have to admit, I've always had a soft spot for you too."
He blinks, surprise evident in his eyes. "Wait, really?"
You nod, feeling a surge of courage wash over you. "Yeah, really. I mean, who else would I want to dance in the rain with?"
Chris's laughter fills the air, a melody of joy and relief. "Well, in that case, I guess we're both pretty lucky, huh?"
You nod, feeling a sense of lightness settle over you. "Yeah, I'd say we are."
And as the rain continues to fall around you, you both stand there, hand in hand, sharing a moment of laughter and connection that you know will stay with you long after the storm has passed.

childhood crush
Tumblr media
pairing. fem!reader x portgas d. ace.
summary. you and ace accidentally meet up after some time away.
contains. fluff, cursing, mild spoilers for ace’s backstory.
word count. 1k.
note. in my head, everybody in one piece is alive and well.
Tumblr media
ace has known you for as long as he can remember.
you used to be a wee little thing. much, much smaller and weaker in body than he was. it isn’t helping that the memories of you he can recollect are the ones where you cry out loud, seeking for his help.
you were in the same league as luffy, as sabo once told him. a crybaby. you never once stopped chasing after them — no, him. solely because of the command old dadan told you about: to keep watch over him when she’s not around.
although, you being his watchdog never ended well for you.
he’s born strong and wild, and you simply weren’t. you carried more scratches and bruises than they did after running amok the mountain’s forest, and that was on a daily basis.
even luffy’s suffering was nothing compared to what you gained running after him.
that went on for some years. him doing whatever he wanted and you cleaning up the mess he left behind, heavily exasperated to your wit’s end. it was what actually made him fond of you.
yet the time has come for his promise to luffy and sabo to finally gear up.
“take care, ace!” luffy waved from the cliff, a huge grin across his face.
“yeah, see you, luffy!” he replied from his boat, the very symbol for his first adventure. the catalyst of many more to come. “i’ll be going now!”
“i’ll be a lot stronger when i leave here in three years!”
ace returned his grin, letting the powerful waves of the sea take him to wherever it desires. there was a round of ‘take care’s and ‘good luck’s, but there was one particular reminder that stood out to him.
“ace! don’t forget about us!” you bellowed. “don’t forget about me!”
he laughed, “i can’t even if i want to!” he hoped that the crashing sounds of the water wouldn’t tamper down the truth in his voice. then, before he couldn’t see the figures on the cliff anymore, he raised his arms and waved his goodbye.
that was some time ago.
now, he watches with comical bewilderment as you expertly skip some of the bar tables to run to where he’s sitting at.
“ace? is that you, ace?”
he gawks, then breathes out your name, confusing the first division commander sitting beside him.
“you know her?”
“ace!” you squeal upon reaching him, immediately wrapping your arms around his body and crushing his bones. “it’s me! did you forget about me?”
marco wolf whistles from the sideline, smirking at the event unfolding before him, “oh my.”
“what are you doing here?” he questions, pulling himself back to look at you. and wow, he didn’t think you’d look, well for the lack of better term, this attractive.
“what do you mean? i’ve become a pirate!”
ace’s disbelief is loud and apparent. “idiot!” he knocks you by the head. “are you still following me? following dadan’s orders?”
“you wish,” you pout. at that moment, you finally take notice of marco beside him, bowing down and introducing your name. “hello, i’m ace’s childhood friend. thank you for taking care of this idiot.”
“nice to meet you-yoi,” he chuckles, warming up to you already. after a second, he glances knowingly at ace. “so this is her,” he comments.
ace hears the intention. loud and clear.
“marco,” he chuckles without an ounce of amusement behind it, “i think pops needs some checking up.”
“i’ve already administered him his meds, ace. pops will live for the night.” marco happily returns his attention back to you. “so, are you single?”
you freeze at the question, the same time as ace’s booming protest broke through the bar.
“knock it off!” he stands up, authority seeping through his skin. you’re taken aback with his reaction, hell, even he is taken aback. he lowers his head, embarrassed by his outburst, and timidly hides beneath his hat.
“i’m single,” you shrug after a moment. this makes marco snort, digging into ace’s mortification much deeper. “not sure why it’s a big deal.”
“oh, i like you already,” marco teases. the first division commander is beaming even as he utters the words. it sounds so smooth, so at ease, that ace feels a little jealous he can do it without worrying about what you think if he’s the one to say it.
“but i’m not available,” you voice out suddenly, and the two heads snap to attention. you give them a sheepish smile, “i already like someone.”
before ace could stop himself, he had already asked, “who?”
“oh please,” you scoff, not before pursing your lips as you avoid their awaiting looks, “it’s the same person.”
he squints his eyes, trying to remember if you had once told him you have a budding crush on someone. his wondering leads him to stare mindlessly at the wall behind you as he racks his brain for a clue.
is it luffy?
no, he’s way too childish for you.
“you mean to say you’ve only had the same crush your entire life?” he hears marco ask you, but it’s a bit tuned out.
sabo?
surely, you won’t punish yourself for someone who isn’t here?
“no way,” marco bursts out laughing, “that’s just bullshit.”
is it someone from your crew?
speaking of, where even is your crew?
“he's not even listening,” marco continues, repeatedly knocking his fist against the table, hunching forwards with laughter. “and yet you choose him?”
ace collects his thoughts and returns back to the situation at hand. he scowls at how the two of you have become oh-so chummy with each other — you giggling with marco, and well, marco almost dying with happy tears in his eyes, all while he’s time traveling back to his childhood.
“am i missing something?” he glowers.
“a huge one! a really huge one,” his co-commander slings an arm around his neck, squeezing it affectionately, “oh, you poor guy.”
“you mean, poor me,” you snort before reducing back to giggling alongside the other commander. reaching out you gently tap ace’s cheek, “it’s nice to see you again, ace.”

✧.* LADYBUG & BUGBOY.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
— summary : peter realizes that he is in love with you.
— word count : 0,7k
— warnings : fluff, tiny bit of angst, fem!reader, petnames (ladybug), peter teasing reader & reader teasing peter back, childhood friends to lovers.
a/n : his brown doe eyes literally make me WANT TO SCREAMMMMMM!! he's so skrunkly, he's so pookie, he's so😭😭😭😭☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️ also this is so messy sorry.
Tumblr media
the cold autumn wind blew as leaves start to dance outside your window. you smile, flipping through the photo book titled 'y/n and peter's adventures'. you realize that you share so many memories with peter, you two basically grew up next to each other.
"ooh! how about this one? do you remember that?" you point to the picture of you and peter on halloween night. you were posing with the biggest smile on your face and peter was doing the same.
"halloween, i remember." he nodded. "was that the halloween where you cried because one house ran out of kitkats?" you asked, laughing as your mind replays the memory. peter nods again.
you kept smiling as your mind continues to replay the memories you had together. you look across your room and spot your beat-up converses, which reminded you of when peter taught you how to do bunnyloops.
you turn and look at the band poster you had up, which reminded you of when peter introduced you to it. you quietly chuckled as you remember when aunt may told peter to quiet down one afternoon because she couldn't hear the oven go 'ding!' which led to her muffins being burnt.
you continue to flip through the pages, observing each photo.
"oh my god, look!" you gasp. it was a picture of 4 year-old you kissing 4 year-old peter on the cheek, he has the biggest smile, his cheeks were red, and you could hear aunt may and uncle ben's laugh behind it.
you squint to see the small writing - it reads 'valentine's day'.
"may said you look like you were head over heels for me in this." you could recall the exact moment.
peter nods, but you don't notice that.
what you do notice is that peter has been awfully quiet this entire time.
actually,
he's been awfully quiet this entire week. you try to remember anything he has said earlier today, but nothing pops up. did you even see him in school today?
you also realize that he hasn't tried to text or call you recently. i mean, he doesn't have to do any of that. but, maybe you were just expecting something from him, you know?
"you've been acting really off recently, peter." you say, breaking the awkward silence.
he hesitates. you can tell.
you wait for his response, but he doesn't seem like he's gonna reply. so you shrug it off and continue flipping through the photo book.
"i think it's because i'm in love with you."
whatever you were expecting from him. it was not that.
you pause. "don't. joke about that."
"what? did i almost get you?" he laughs. and suddenly he's back to being peter from last week.
"that's not funny!" you throw a pillow at him.
"aww, you're blushing." peter teases. "don't rub it in now." you reply, hiding your face in the photo book.
"you're the one who won't make eye contact with me." — "yeah. 'cause you're hard to look at. especially after whatever you just pulled there."
"did you just call me ugly?"
"wow. now you're putting words in my mouth. you're manipulative too, why would i want to look at you?"
"just say you like looking at me. don't be so stubborn." he continues to tease you.
but you have to admit, he does have the prettiest eyes you have ever seen.
"how can you just say these things so easily?" you question, looking up from the photobook.
"what if i can say it because it's true?".
you blink.
"i feel so bad for gwen and harry. they must have a hard time dealing with you."
harry and gwen have been peter's closest friends since middle school, and peter's only other friends.
"you're the only one i'm like this with."
"so what? you're really in love with me?" you can't tell if this is some sick joke peter's doing, or if he's actually serious.
"absolutely. head. over. heels."
"so, you wouldn't mind if i do this?" you held his hand. "what? hold my hand? you already do that in the hallways so you wouldn't get lost."
you nod, "but you're blushing."
peter face was blank. his cheeks grew red.
"you there? you talk so confidently for someone who can't do the same things you tease me with."
"... you're. terrible."
"you were actually being serious?"
"terribly serious, ladybug."
"ladybug?"
"you'll get it."

🫧 Bubbles with you 🫧
After a random video on your feed, you tell Nanami about the last time you blew bubbles and played with a hula hoop. Nanami wants to replace your last bubble memory and prepares these things in the backyard to let you play your childhood games again. But this time, you are no longer playing by yourself.
fluff fluff fluff, sad childhood but fluff fluff, boyfriend nanami being the best
Nanami is twirling your hair, lets it go to run his fingers through it, then twirls it again. You’re laying down on his bare chest and scrolling on your phone. You both said you were tired after dinner but things went as they usually do once you’re both in the room.
First, he had leaned in to kiss your shoulder while you took out your clothes from the dresser, then he turned you around after you closed the drawer and kissed you against it. You gave in, as you do every single time and now you’re both in bed, simply enjoying each others presence.
You always tilt your phone so he can see everything on your feed and he occasionally comments on a post or video. You scroll to a video of a few kids blowing bubbles while rollerblading. You smile at the wholesome video but you stay on the same video so it’ll replay.
Nanami notices since you usually only replay videos that have you cackling or on the verge of tears. His hair twirling slows down a bit. He didn’t hear you laughing hysterically so were you…?
You put your phone down beside him and prop up your chin on your hand, still on Nanami’s chest. Nanami waits for you to talk, noticing your eyes weren’t glossy.
“When was the last time you blew a bubble?”
“What?” Nanami asks, a bit in disbelief. He chuckles and continues, “I’m not sure when exactly, but I was a kid, maybe a teenager at most.”
You think for a bit after his response.
“I can remember the last time I blew a bubble. I didn’t know it’d be my last, but I can remember it.”
“Yeah? Tell me about it,” Nanami puts an arm behind his head to look at you a bit better. He’s genuinely interested in listening to you and his signature soft smile slowly extends on his lips.
You go on to tell him about your last bubble adventure. Bubbles and hula hoops. They were two very specific symbols of your childhood. Whenever you felt uncomfortable or anxious at home, you’d step right outside the front door and play by yourself. It wasn’t the happiest time at home so you preferred to play outside by yourself as your small escape. After an explosive argument between your parents when you were ten, you went outside to blow your bubbles and play with your hula hoop. You didn’t know it at the time, but that night would change every single night after that. One of your parents moved out while you were asleep and when you tried to play with your bubbles the next day, you just didn’t want to… or couldn’t? You sat in front of the bubbles and stared at the bottle, but eventually just stood up and kicked it across the front patio. You never opened the bottle again or picked up the hula hoop. They were tossed eventually, you didn’t know when exactly, but you could remember the last bubble night.
You look at Nanami after the story. Nanami’s smile was gone but his eyes remained soft and his hand returned to your hair, slowly running his fingers through it.
“I wish you had a better bubble memory,” Nanami says softly.
You smile at him and lie back down, “It’s ok. Everything’s ok now and I like seeing other kids play with bubbles.”
Nanami wraps his arms around you and kisses the top of your head. He traces lazy swirls on your back and feels your breathing even out as you drift off. He makes a mental note of bubble packs and adult hula hoops.
———
That weekend, you head out to pick up dinner for movie night. Nanami looks out the living room window to check for your car and sprints to the garage after checking you’ve driven off. He grabs the small box in the corner and reaches underneath his car for a couple hula hoops. Hiding two adult sized hula hoops and moving them around the house has been the hardest thing he’s done in a while.
He runs to the backyard and drops everything on the patio table. He starts his decorating by connecting the twinkle lights you insisted on putting up a couple months ago and begins emptying the box. Two 4-packs of bubbles and decorative tape for the hula hoops. He grabs your hula hoop, in your favorite color of course, and starts wrapping the sparkly tape around it, making sure to leave space between the tape to let the color peek through. He knows he can buy designed hula hoops but he wanted to make yours. Your one of a kind hula hoop by your boyfriend Nanami.
He finishes your hula hoop and grabs a couple bottles of the bubbles. Nanami puts the same sparkly tape around the center of the bottles and crooked smiley faces on the caps with the same tape.
He checks his watch and knows he won’t have enough time to fully decorate his own. He grabs his own hula hoop and starts to wrap the circumference of the hula hoop with one single line.
“Hey siri, open the Find My app,” Nanami leans towards his phone to check your location while he finishes the last few inches of his single line.
Shit, shit, shit, Nanami could see that you were about to turn into the house and quickly cuts the tape.
He runs back inside to grab a couple drinks from the fridge and goes to meet you at the front door. His heart is beating fast and he hopes and prays that you like his surprise instead of the usual movie night.
He smiles and wiggles the drinks in front of him as soon as you open the door.
“Oooh, meeting me at the door with drinks? I could get used to this Ken, don’t spoil me,” you laugh at his puppy like behavior.
Nanami takes the bag of food from you and you take one of the drinks. You follow Nanami out the entryway but he continues to walk towards the back door. Nanami hears your footsteps pause and turns around to tell you to follow him. You giggle and follow him.
Nanami starts spreading out the food on the patio table and you stop completely once you see what else is on the table. Nanami turns around with a now empty bag and motions towards the table, “Ta da!”
You smile, but you’re a little confused at the bubbles and hula hoops… and is that sparkly tape?
Nanami steps closer to you and grabs your hand. “I was thinking that we should make new bubble memories. Play together and maybe even compete to see who can blow the most bubbles,” he smiles and looks up to your watery eyes, “aaaand I’ve been practicing with the hula hoop for a few days while you’re showering or napping.”
You laugh but you feel the tears threatening to spill out. Your sweet, kind, thoughtful boyfriend had set this up for you. The man who barely smiled at first had bought sparkly tape and slowly wrapped a thin hula hoop with his big hands. You laugh again and this time a couple tears go down your cheeks.
Nanami puts his hands on your cheeks to wipe the tears. He kisses the tip of your nose then your lips and says, “You’re not gonna play alone again. Even if I look absolutely ridiculous and out of place, it would be my pleasure to blow bubbles with you and play with hula hoops together.”
Together. Not alone. Your little escape with Nanami. Your inner child jumps at the thought of blowing bubbles with someone else. Jumping around and popping them while someone else blows them. But not just anyone. Nanami. Nanami blowing the bubbles and you jumping around, you blowing the bubbles and Nanami reaching up to pop them. Nanami. Blowing bubbles with Nanami.
You nod and rub your face against your boyfriend’s hands. He kisses you again softly and leads you to the table.
“Then let’s hurry and eat so we can play,” he pulls out a chair for you and you sit while looking over his sparkly tape designs.
“I can’t wait to show you how long I can keep my hula hoop up for,” Nanami excitedly sits in his chair and motions for you to start eating.
“I can’t wait to see how many bubbles you can blow,” you smile at him, “I used to be able to cover my patio in bubbles!”
His tender smile graces his lips. He reaches for your hand, “I can’t wait to see that, darling. I’d love nothing more.”

growing up together the two of you were basically inseparable. he always found himself by your side, he couldn’t help himself there was something about you. maybe it was the way you never backed down when he argued with you, or the way you cared for luffy and got along with sabo, or definitely how you called him stupid for letting his name define him.
sabo elbowed ace with a small smile on his face “you’re staring at them. again. everyone knows you like them you know you’re so obvious.”
ace stammered over his words, his face quickly turned red as the blush creeped up his neck “im not! i was just lookin out for luffy. you know luffy plays rough and i didn’t want him to injure y/n. yeah that’s it.”
sabo’s grin gets wider and becomes smug “oh so you’re worried about y/n?”
“shut up!” ace yelled feeling embarrassed and with his pipe raised as if he was going to swing.
it’s been years since that conversation. the quartet, unfortunately, became a trio. although the conversation ace had with sabo was years ago he remembered it as if it was yesterday. he’s been crushing on you since you were kids he’s not the shy type but for some reason, you have that effect on him. anytime he tried he always chickened out.
but today was the day he was leaving to sail the world so it was now or never.
“are you sure you don’t wanna join my crew ace? you can be first mate!” luffy smiled widely at his brother. he asked the same question hundreds of times and got the same answer.
ace laughed and smiled “please we both know that i’m the captain and you’re first mate luffy. i’ll see you later yeah? try not to cause too much trouble while i’m gone luffy.”
ace’s gaze landed on you, his eyes visibly softening when he looks into yours “how do you feel about an adventure on the seas y/n?” he extends his hand to you “it’d drive me crazy to be apart from you.“
“what? come on ace you can’t steal my first mate!” luffy protested with his arms crossed.
you raised a brow and smiled at luffy “first mate? i thought ace was your first mate luffy?”
“he’s a captain now so it wouldn’t work get with the program y/n!”
you laughed and gently nudged luffy with your shoulder “im gonna miss you luffy.” ace’s eyes lit up and he smiled like a love-sick fool “y/n..”
you put your hand in his. he pulled you into him, his free arm snaking around your waist “welcome aboard first mate.”
luffy stuck his tongue out at the two of you “traitors!” he then laughed with his usual infectious grin on his face.
“oh great he took the only one with sense.” dadan grumbled and rubbed her temples it was going to be a long few years with no one to keep luffy in check.
as you sailed off with ace you watched as the island became smaller and smaller, he cupped your face in his hands. his touch was gentle yet rough “there’s something about you. you drive me insane always have and you always will.” he leaned closer your lips mere inches apart. he wanted you to close the gap he wanted to see if you wanted him as much as he wanted you.
you leaned in and closed the gap, your lips gently molding with his. one of his hands moved down to your hip to pull you closer when you unfortunately had to pull apart for air he bruised his lips against yours and pressed a kiss to your lips.
“i’ve always wanted to kiss you…we’re gonna burn the house down baby just watch.”

Eddie Munson had grown bitter since you last saw him. To be fair, the last time you saw him was when you were kids but still. You always knew him to be boisterous. Adventurer Eddie. Eddie with the weird ideas and cool drawings. Eddie who made you laugh until your stomach cramped and you would cry out that he was going to make you wet yourself.
You didn’t know it as a kid but even then he couldn’t catch a break from the world around him, and apparently it never stopped spiraling even when it beat him into a hollow shell covered in grease during the weekdays and alcohol—and occasionally vomit—on the weekends. He was worn down by his own worries that never seemed to cease and miserable stories of others admitting things they should’ve never said aloud. Sometimes the stories were fun or at least amusing, but mostly just depressing. This was Hawkins after all.
This wasn’t an Eddie you knew. Had someone told you that man in the garage wasn’t him, you simply would’ve nodded and kept going on your journey to find him.
But it was him, and you were positive he was meant to be back in your life. No matter how much it was hurting right now.
*
You didn’t know why he left at first. It was as if he ceased to exist, and sometimes—when you were all alone at night—you wondered if he had been a ghost. If he had been an imaginary friend, but surely not? He had his own home you hung out in. His own dad who let you guys eat too much junk food and stay up too late. He looked and sounded real when he would scarf down several bowls of honeycomb cereal with those slurping noises you always hated and would whine at him over. He felt real when you would play wrestle—and unfortunately very real when he won and would pin you down while slowly letting a string of saliva stretch down towards your face in an empty threat. He never really did it, but it was gross all the same, and when he’d let up you’d punch his arm as hard as you could.
One day, you asked if your parents remembered him and your father scoffed at the question while he stared at the newspaper, but at least he acknowledged you at all. Meanwhile your mother had all her focus on putting her earrings in and checking her makeup in the small mirror on a wall surrounded by family photos. Those framed pictures felt emptier than the looming threat of Eddie’s spit touching your face.
“Well his father’s a bottom feeder stuck in prison,” your dad flicked his paper to straighten it out again from where it had begun to bow backwards. “And his kid is probably no better. You’ll make other friends.”
You never understood why he was so cold about the loss of your only friend. You’ll make other friends. Yeah right. No one liked you. Everyone made fun of the way you sat idly on swings just to kick on occasion as you focused more on the book in your hands, or the way you’d squat down and give all your attention to a bug in front of you. Either a line of ants that you regarded with pure intrigue because you wondered how they always filed so neatly and did their best to stay together. Sometimes you left crumbs by them just to see if you could watch them pick them up. You’d watch snails and show them the attentiveness and respect you felt they deserved as they slowly trudged along—so determined, you thought. You’d watch butterflies and try to keep track of all the different kinds you saw. A lot of them were small and fluttery with those buttery white wings, but sometimes you saw a monarch and your eyes would grow large with excitement.
You cried when Zachary McKay would stomp on the anthills or teased you about how the French ate snails—something his dad would say was just more proof of how odd Europeans are. They were one of those arrogant “We love our Country!” households with an “I can do whatever I want—America is the land of the free” ideology and it showed in their unbridled and privileged ass of a child. You didn’t inform him that one Spring of the wasp nest that formed on the underside of the slide he frequented. Maybe it was mean, but you were content in silence over on your swing when you heard him crying out in pain one day. He developed a crush on you in high school that dramatically contrasted how he treated you in grade school—and even tried to make a move at Maddi Ecker’s 17th birthday party—but you could only think of the ants and the snails. You turned him down and he was horrible to you again.
You eventually did make some friends, other odds and ends throughout your school, but it wasn’t the same as it was with Eddie. Maybe it was childish and stubborn, but you could feel it deep in your gut that he was one of a kind. So you couldn’t let him go. All those years you ached for your friend who you considered lost. He always came up with wild stories and (when you were still relatively young) you imagined he had become a pirate and was lost at sea. Or became a gunslinger in the Wild West and didn’t draw fast enough. Maybe he went to slay dragons and wound up a burnt crisp of a human. That last one made you cringe the most, but he probably would’ve liked it the most. He loved mythical creatures the way you adored real creatures. By high school you weren’t as naive. You heard about his dad—caught with multiple charges of grand theft auto, a hit-and-run in one of said stolen cars, and dealing drugs. The hard shit. Not weed or shrooms. But the kind of stuff that really ruins lives.
You always thought Eddie had a good home. His dad didn’t hate him the way you were sure your parents hated you, and he had a nice house. It wasn’t a mansion or anything, but they really didn’t need anything beyond a one story and a sizable basement with only two of them. In hindsight, you supposed he couldn’t find a home in that childhood house anymore than you could with yours. Yours lacked love. His lacked a reliable source of income.
Over time you heard about the night with all the sirens and social workers. The night he turned into a spirit that had finally moved on—an imaginary friend that your growing mind ceased to conjure. He lived with his uncle over in Indiana, rather than your small town in Ohio. Even in your mid twenties, he flashed in your mind like a small blip on occasion and it still twisted your stomach.
You thought of asking if you should go to him whenever you remembered, but you thought you needed a sign. What if you showed up too early? And you messed up any possible grand plans? So you avoided indulging in questions about him to your tarot cards or over your pendulum map. On occasion you caved and just asked a simple question: is he safe? It was a yes every time you broke and just had to check up on him, and the answer reassured you for long enough until the next time the concern rose up to unbearable levels.
But then you started getting those dreams. Sometimes they were just memories playing from deep within the archives of your mind. Sometimes they were nightmares of yelling at someone to go away, only to realize it was Eddie far too late—and when you wanted to run after him to correct the mistake, you couldn’t move as quickly as you knew you were capable of.
It went on for about a month before you finally broke. Your eyes had snapped open, accidentally waking yourself in the middle of saying what you had been shouting to Dream Eddie out loud into your pitch black room. You glanced at the time. 11:11 PM. You felt your heart skip a beat before you shoved yourself out of bed. You had to take a moment to steady yourself against your bedpost from the sudden movement making you dizzy, but then you were flicking on the light and digging through your belongings. You didn’t even give yourself a chance to wipe away at the thin sheen of sweat over your skin from August heat mixed with a cheap fan that really didn’t make that much of a difference, and the stress from the events that had played deep in your mind while you slept.
With a shaky breath, you smoothed out your map on the floor where you were squatting, and steadily held your pendulum over the center. Does he need me? You finally asked and watched as the chain connected to a sphere of rose quartz slowly began to circle. It sped up and then began to dart in different directions before finally swinging back and forth between both of the “YES''s on the piece of cloth.
*
It took a little over a month to arrange your departure from your life in small town Ohio—not that small town Indiana was really all that different. You had briefly been back at your childhood house after your lease came to an end for the apartment you shared with a friend (who didn’t want to renew because she wanted to move in with her boyfriend, and you didn’t have the heart to tell her that the card spread you had laid out all pointed towards a breakup). All of this to say you didn’t have a lease or mortgage to tie you down. You certainly didn’t have a boyfriend (you haven’t had one since college), and you didn’t even like your job at the local mart so it was easy to give your two weeks. Your parents were just as sick of your presence now as when you were a child, and were willing to help you in every way possible to get you to just leave again. Had you not been so focused on your end goal, you might’ve taken a beat to really feel the hurt that always came with parents who only came to your aid when it meant keeping you at arm's length. But you couldn’t focus on it and really (for the sake of your mental health) you shouldn’t focus on it. All of your energy went towards Eddie who seemed so far, even if he was supposedly just a few hours and a state line away.
You didn’t have a place yet, which was a mistake on your part for rushing, but you could stay in a motel for the time being. The prices were pretty low anyways and the owner seemed pleasantly surprised by the sudden source of money and company. The lot belonged to her husband who had passed a few years back, so now it was only her running the place. Her daughter helped sometimes, but she had another job to focus on—only coming to help when the older woman was ill. So even though she appeared kind of grumpy at first, she really softened up to you when you wound up padding out of your room the first night and asked if she wanted to play Go Fish. You had been feeling antsy and lonely, and you were right to assume she felt lonely too.
Over the past week or so, you found a friend in that creaking, groaning motel. You did have a bit of a tendency to befriend the adults around you more often than kids your age when you were younger and it still happened now, apparently. A shrink at university pointed out once that it had to do with the lack of guardianship and guidance growing up. That you were trying to replace something that had always been missing, but you didn’t go back to him after a couple sessions. You didn’t like how patronizing he was, telling you things you already knew. And when you asked your dowsing rods if he was sleeping with any of his clients, the two pieces in your fists whipped open in a blatant “Yes!” But he wasn’t around now to make you feel low with his supercilious commentary and his notes that he always scratched down right in front of you. Your parents weren’t around to remind you of how utterly unlovable you can be. It was just you, Martha at Hawkins’ Blue Bird Inn, and hopefully a pleasant reunion on the horizon.
Today was the day to finally see Eddie, and Martha urged some confidence into you this morning before sending you on your way with the directions to the garage. No matter how many times you clarified he was just your childhood best friend, she got that sly look about her that always showed when an adult was all amused about the novice in front of them being openly or involuntarily blind to love.
So there you were. On a mild Wednesday morning in late September, standing before Thacher Tire after a lot of asking around, a lot of time flipping through Martha’s phone book, and even more odd looks. You let out a careful breath, doing your best to reassure yourself with the knowledge that the people you spoke to knew his name in the first place. He had to be here, and even if he wasn’t working today he should at least be employed here. Maybe you could be told when to come back to speak with him or where you could find him outside of work. Would they share something like that? People don’t tend to care about privacy in small towns, that’s why everyone knew (generally) where everyone else was. Maybe if you clarified that you’re an old friend, they wouldn’t treat you as a customer and tell you where he would be.
You were wringing your hands as you eyed the door in front of you. The glass looking in was worn from age and weather, clearly cleaned so people could see through it, but there seemed to be an aging to the corners where the rectangle of glass met the surrounding wood that couldn’t be scrubbed out. It felt like a portal looking into what could be, and you suddenly felt yourself getting anxious with what exactly meant could be. You had a knack for catastrophizing, and spiraled in all of the worst case scenarios until you were running back to your car and abandoning the lot.
*
“Trust me, it’s not as scary as it seems. Going for those intimidating opportunities is always better in the long run than letting ‘em slip away,'' Martha murmured to you before biting into the sandwich you brought her.
You bought typical fast food that you always came running back to when you were stressed, but she didn’t like the grease. You learned that over the past week when you brought up your bad habit, and her nose scrunched up at the mention of crappy burgers and overly salted fries. Instead you got her a tuna sandwich from the nearby marketplace, and she shared her big jug of iced, sweet tea with you.
“I haven’t seen him for over ten years…,” you sigh, toying with the crackling paper that was wrapped around your cheeseburger. “What if I’m the only one who clung onto our friendship? What if it’s stupid to him?”
“Mm, us women always do hold on longer,” she hummed thoughtfully and you refrained from your urge to correct her old-fashioned view of gender dynamics for the sake of staying on topic. “I still think you should go for it.”
“What if… what if it’s not what I think it’ll be? What if I’ve turned him into someone more fictional than Eddie in my mind, and when I’m faced with how he really is now I just… I dunno…wish I didn’t come here?”
“They never are what you conjure up. They’re always better up here,” she pointed a bony finger to her temple and you focused on one of the curls in her short gray hair for a second before bringing your gaze back to hers. “I still think you should go for it.”
You huff out a laugh at her repetition, smiling sadly to yourself as you look down at your hands and notice the thin sheen of grease on them. Maybe Martha’s right. Maybe this food is gross. You grab a few napkins from the brown paper bag and wipe at your fingers.
“Just think of it this way: is it worse knowing the truth or worse never knowing?”

Eddie had been having a shit day. Actually he had been having a shit week. If he let himself truly indulge in his pessimism, he’d be acknowledging that he’s altogether just had a shit life, but he was trying not to fall into that trap. It would make him the kind of depressed and bitter that made him snap at others and then feel guilty about it—which only made him feel worse about himself.
He hasn’t been sleeping well, a sudden flare up of his insomnia throwing off his circadian rhythm. He thought with how busy his schedule was that he’d knock out the second his head hit the pillow, but he only seemed to be exhausted until he finally laid down. Then was when his thoughts randomly chose to run and his heart would race with the sudden surge of anxiety-inducing thoughts. He was beginning to feel so overwhelmed by everything that his eyes burned with the beginnings of hot tears but he wiped at them carelessly with the heels of his hands before they could become too real. In his mind, they didn’t exist until they fell.
Eddie ached with exhaustion that only seemed to let up when he could actually get a shot at some rest. He ached with loss and grief. He ached with pure misery and painful seclusion and a silent trailer—besides the occasional buzz of electricity through his lamp that he turned back on when he realized he wouldn’t be sleeping anyway, or the groan of the old mobile home settling against its cinder blocks. The upcoming season made itself known through the ever growing chill that formed at night and occasionally blew through every crack and crease of the trailer, making him shiver and pull his blankets up before inevitably growing hot again and kicking them away.
He missed his friends that he rarely saw. Everyone is busy nowadays. He missed Wayne who… god, he couldn’t even think about it. He missed Chrissy who lit up his world Spring of ‘86 just for them to drift apart. People seemed to drift from him a lot. People seemed comfortable with forgetting him and giving a brief call only when they got a pang of guilt at any reminder that they were getting awfully close to leaving him behind. But who was he to drag them down? It was heart-aching enough to live the way he did sometimes, let alone when people acknowledged just how heart-aching it was. Sometimes he even missed his dad, but he always avoided thinking too hard about him before it could sink his mood to a new level that would be hard to crawl out of.
He hadn’t been able to fall asleep Wednesday night until early into Thursday morning. He settled into a deep rest around 4 AM just to be abruptly woken up by his 6:30 alarm to make sure he was at Thacher’s by 7:00.
“Fuck off…,” Eddie groaned out loud and slammed his fist down onto the alarm clock, never lifting his face from where it was planted right against his worn pillow.
He laid there for what felt like forever, but was really only a few minutes before he finally peeled himself out of his spot. Forcing himself from the comfort of his old mattress was never easy, especially when he couldn’t rely on any excuses he made up as a teenager to just flop right back into his bed. He had to get up. He had to work.
He went to make his usual toast just to see there was only the end piece left in his loaf of bread, and let out a guttural groan of frustration as he tilted his head back. He forgot to stop at the store. Grumbling a bitter so that’s how today’s gonna go under his breath, he shoved the sad excuse for a slice of bread into the toaster and then began looking through the kitchen for something else to satiate him until lunch.
He wound up eating what was left in his jar of peanut butter with a spoon after slathering the small piece of toast with jelly. He didn’t have time to clean a travel mug (which he forgot to clean last night) so he took a regular one with him on his commute, and wound up dumping his coffee all over himself mid-sip when he had to stop short for a kid suddenly biking across the road. The young teen laughed at the close call and made his way to the other side of the street. Eddie glanced down at his drenched t-shirt and coveralls, releasing his third irritated groan of the morning while he rolled his eyes up to the ceiling of his van before focusing back on the road and moving his foot to the gas. He focused on taking deep breaths as he gripped the steering wheel and made his way to the shop.
Thankfully, Linda had already started a pot of coffee in the break room which he happily drank and patted at his wet clothing with one of the blue shop towels. Staining was inevitable and it really didn’t matter with the coveralls anyways, but that didn’t mean he had to be damp. Taking that moment at the start of his shift helped with his mood, but the amount of customers bitching over the phone about how long it was taking to get their cars back were steadily draining him back into a surly mood. The most he had to look forward to and keep himself from unnecessarily snapping at someone was the fact that it was almost the weekend—and yes he would still have to work nights at The Hideout, but at least he didn’t have to get up early.
*
Never knowing was decidedly worse.
You had concluded this after ruminating on it all night—with and then without Martha’s help. And despite all of your anxieties that were just barely buried under the surface, you made yourself go to the garage again.
An obnoxious, tinny bell sounded and a dull voice said from behind a counter: Welcome to Thacher Tire. What can we do for you?
You approached carefully as if you moved too quickly, the depressing gray and beige setting around you—which held far more meaning for you than just fixing cars—would suddenly melt away and you’d wake up.
“Do you know where I could find Eddie Munson?” you asked in a soft voice, and the woman obnoxiously chomping at her gum looked up at you over the top of her glasses before looking back down at the paperwork in front of her.
“He’s in the garage. Is he working on your car?”
Your heart jumped and although you hated to lie, you did.
“Yes,” you said probably too quickly, but it seemed nothing could get this woman to care.
“Wait over there, please,” she spoke in a voice that was just as greige as her place of work.
You thanked her meekly and shuffled over to one of the worn, faux leather and hard plastic seats. The room smelled of cheap pine air fresheners and the potent combination of oil, and that specific rubber scent of brand new tires. The space with the front desk and the waiting area was small enough to be cramped if it was a busy day, but since you were the only visitor at the moment you didn’t have to be confronted by the full potential of such limited space. You toyed with your hands and tried to pay attention to the fuzzy television in one corner of the room, but you couldn’t help listening in on the receptionist’s call.
“…’s a girl here to talk to ya… uh-huh… yeah I know… uh, no I don’t think so. I doubt it. Her voice is different from the one that keeps calling about the Ford. Might be though... ‘Kay.”
You anxiously wiped your sweaty palms over your jeans as you heard the clunk of hard plastic settling back into its cradle. What if he didn’t remember you? What if he did, but didn’t care? What if he thought you were weird for showing up? What if he grew up to be someone who stomps on anthills?
Your head shot up at the sound of a door opening and then closing from the back, and a man in filthy coveralls approached the woman behind the desk. He had messy, curly bangs settled on his forehead and the rest of his long hair was in a low ponytail. He was sweaty and clearly exhausted as he wiped at his forehead and left a swipe of grease in his wake, speaking quietly to the receptionist before making his way over to you. The closer he got, the better you could smell the grease and sweat and bitter coffee, but it didn’t deter you. What truly threw you were the circles under his eyes and the sort of pale cast to his skin that people got when they were fatigued or ill. You weren’t sure why a part of you expected to see an eleven year old kid approach you with a god awful buzz cut and big brown eyes, even after fourteen years.
This was it. This was your moment. The time to reclaim your best friend, and have the greatest person you had ever met back into your life. Why was your throat suddenly so dry? You swallowed anxiously and then parted your lips to speak and-
“Miss, I know you’re waiting on your car to be fixed before the weekend—I promise I’m working as quickly as I can.”
You tried not to cringe at the use of “miss” and looked up at him with wide, sad eyes wondering why he didn’t see an almost ten year old girl with a messy braid in her hair that she did by herself, complaining at him to chew with his mouth closed.
“I lied,” You said bluntly and the man stared at you in a way that felt blank and still despite his wonderment.
“I-I don’t have a car here. I just wanted to talk to you.”
He eyed you curiously, his hands slowly wiping onto an old rag. It looked like it had been used so many times, you doubted it was even picking up any filth on his hands but just moving it around instead. He was clearly thrown off by the sentiment which brought a sort of youthfulness to his face in that moment of curiosity before his features hardened.
“Listen. I’m sure whatever prank you have conjured up is hilarious, but I’m tired and trying to do my job.”
“No-- no, no,” you tried to clarify, shooting up from your seat. “I—I-”
But he was already swiftly stomping away from you towards the back, muttering to the receptionist with a quick and surely rude comment about you on his way. You were moments from being politely asked to leave, you’re sure, but the woman hesitated with a gentle expression when she saw you approach her with glossy eyes.
“Could you please just give him this?” you asked in a soft voice that you did your best to keep even, but of course it wobbled just enough to be humiliating. You could feel the heat in your face and (even worse) the moisture in your eyes so you did your best to avoid eye contact.
You outstretched your arm and she met you halfway with a nod, allowing you to drop the old friendship bracelet into her palm.

“Who was that?”
Your mom’s voice startled you. You where lost in thought as you stared at Alastor disappear. He left you wondering, *would you see him again? Was this the first and last time?* You didn’t know. “His someone I met today mom” you turn around to face your mother. You hoped no one was home but it appears that your mother arrived early.
“Where’s father?”
“His out with some of his friends”
As you stepped into the house, the familiar scent of jasmine from the garden wafted in, mingling with the lingering curiosity about Alastor. Your mother watched you closely, a gentle frown creasing her forehead.
"You seem distant, sweetheart. Is everything alright?" she asked, her voice laced with concern.
You nodded, forcing a smile. "Everything's fine, Mom. Just a lot on my mind, that's all."
She seemed to ponder your words, then sighed softly. "Well, if you ever want to talk about it, I'm here. You know that, right?"
You felt a warmth in her words, a silent strength that had always been the backbone of your family. "I know, Mom. Thanks," you felt a bit more grounded.
As you headed to your room, the image of Alastor's enigmatic smile flashed in your mind. The brief encounter had left an indelible mark, and you couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to him than met the eye. Perhaps, in time, you would cross paths again.
For now, you had the quiet comfort of your room, a sanctuary where you could unravel the day's mysteries and maybe, just maybe, pen down the beginnings of a new adventure—one that started with a chance meeting and a pocket full of questions. Day turn to night and with that you feel asleep.
———————————-
The morning light filtered through the curtains, casting a soft glow on the walls of your room. The familiar scent of coffee was a gentle reminder of the world outside your thoughts. As your mother's voice called out, a sense of routine wrapped around you, comforting yet tinged with the anticipation of the unknown.
"Y/N, honey, are you awake?" her voice was the soundtrack to your mornings, a melody of care and warmth.
"Yeah," your voice still heavy with sleep. You stretched, feeling the remnants of dreams slip away, replaced by the reality of another day.
“Alright sweetheart, breakfast is ready," she announced, her footsteps retreating down the stairs, a rhythmic beat that beckoned you to follow.
You rose, the cool floorboards beneath your feet grounding you as you made your way to the bathroom. The mirror greeted you with a reflection of someone caught between two worlds—the open fields of your childhood and the vibrant streets of New Orleans.
“Good morning, mom," you descended the stairs, each step a move towards the day ahead.
"Good morning, sweetie," she turn from the stove, a ballet of domesticity that had choreographed your life.
The plates were ready, a testament to your mother's unwavering routine. You took one, the clink of porcelain a familiar note in the symphony of morning.
"Remember today we are going to see a friend of your father's," her voice a gentle nudge into the day's agenda.
"Really, and may I know what for?" you inquired, a flicker of curiosity igniting within you.
"Oh honey, you know—you're a grown woman and well…your father and I think it's time for you to have someone special in your life," she spoke with a softness that only a mother's love could weave.
Her hand rested on yours, a silent communication of hopes and unspoken dreams. You understood the weight of her words, the expectation, and the subtle shift in the winds of your life. Today was not just another day; it was a step towards a future your parents envisioned for you, one that perhaps held the promise of love and companionship.
As you sat down to breakfast, the aroma of coffee mingling with the scent of fresh pancakes, you pondered the day ahead.
The rich smell of breakfast couldn't distract you from the whirlwind of thoughts about Alastor. His mysterious aura had left an indelible mark, and the possibility of seeing him again sent a flutter of excitement through you.
“You know, Richard's son is a great man for you. I think you two would get along just fine," your mother's voice sliced through your reverie, grounding you with the reminder of today's planned meeting.
"Mom, I don't know. I barely even know him," the uncertainty clear in your voice.
"That's why we are going to see him so you two can talk and get to know each other," her tone practical as she took a sip of her coffee.
You nodded, acknowledging her point, but your mind was elsewhere. The thought of being set up with someone you hardly knew was daunting, yet there was a part of you that wondered if this could be the start of something new, something unexpected.
As you finished your breakfast, you made a silent promise to yourself to remain open to the possibilities of the day. Whether it was a chance encounter with Alastor or a meeting with Richard's son.

How about a Percy fic with dancing like beauty and the beast ballroom with something a little saucy at the end
In The Glade
When a plan relies on you being able to dance, Percy steps up to teach you, finally tipping the tension over the edge

I'm in love with him, that is my husband right there. Sorry that this didn't end up saucy! Mutual pining has been rotting my brain lately <3 -Finn
You were going to kill Scanlan one of these days. He had managed to find a new lead for your latest adventure, but of course, it required infiltrating a formal event and finding out secrets. Scanlan had even created the perfect plan. You could subtly interrogate a person of interest on the dance floor and no one would be any wiser! Never mind the fact that you had never learned a ballroom dance in your life.
There was no way you could do this, you would be found out immediately, the first moment that you misstepped. Why had you agreed to this?
"You're holding yourself too stiffly, you have to let me lead or this doesn't work."
Percy’s steady voice drew you out of your thoughts as he tapped the hard set of your shoulders, a gentle reprimand to pull your focus back to him. He had offered to teach you how to dance, a skill he still remembered from his childhood in Whitestone. He should've been the one going, but he would have been at risk of being recognized.
"It's formal, but you do need to relax a bit, love. Get out of your head," Percy continued, waiting for you to drop some of the tension. "I can practically hear the gears grinding in there."
"If I die at that party, I need you to avenge me and kill Scanlan for this plan."
"Deal, I can do that but you aren't going to die. Just focus alright? Here, step closer, you look like a scared deer. Nerves are like blood in the water at events like that."
You obeyed, stepping closer as his hand settled on your waist. Here, in the empty glade that he had found for the two of you, there was nothing to distract you from him. From the gentle heat radiating off him or the scent of gunpowder that always clung to him and his coat. He had a unique skill of being able to settle your racing thoughts just by being near you.
"Follow my steps without guessing what I'm going to do next. Just trust that I have you," he said, guiding you once again into the dance. He was so sure of his movements, the same way he was in combat. It was incredible to watch, even as you stumbled along with him. He stayed steady, keeping you on track. "You're doing well."
"I've stepped on your feet multiple times already."
"So long as you don't start doing it intentionally, it's fine." He was smiling at you, the teasing lilt to his tone making your thoughts go fuzzy at the edges.
"I should, you seem too smug about being able to teach me this."
"I'm hardly smug, I just...enjoy this. It's rare to get the chance to properly dance with someone and even moreso, I enjoy your company. So this is nice."
You could feel heat rushing to your face. It always caught you off guard when he responded honestly rather than with his usual sarcasm. Banter was easy, but this set you off balance. Percy had been doing that more and more lately. You didn't know what to make of it, but you knew your heart was flipping in your chest each time he did.
"It's, yeah, I think it's nice too. I really like getting to spend time with you"
Gods, that smile. A little nervous, but so terribly genuine with a splash of red across his cheeks. You could hardly think, not when he was smiling at you like that and he was holding you so close, spinning you around the glade. The trees hid you both from the rest of the world, in this sweet moment of time, as if you had just stepped into a dream.
You had both been heading towards an inevitable conclusion, drawing closer every time you joked around the campfire at night or had the other's back in a fight. From the first time that he had grinned at you, from the first time he had heard you laugh. There was no world where you wouldn't have fallen in love with him. And here, in each other's arms, you couldn't deny it.
"Whatever you're thinking about now, it makes you better at following the dance, you aren't overthinking it anymore."
"I've got a good teacher. Are you going to teach me how to shoot next? Or maybe show me how to make those fancy arrows."
He laughed and it felt like your chest was full to bursting.
"Ask me nicely when you come back from that party and I will teach you anything you want."
"Anything? That's a dangerous promise, de Rolo."
"I trust you. Besides, I think you're too curious about my guns to ask for anything else."
"What if I did want something else? Not a lesson," you asked, gently worrying the fabric of his sleeve between your fingers.
"Then all you need do is ask."
"What if I asked to kiss you?"
His breath caught, and you watched how his eyes dropped to your lips for a moment, before carefully dragging back up to meet your gaze. There was an open, honest want in his eyes, mirroring your own.
"As I said, all you need do is ask."
"May I kiss you, Percy?"
His voice was breathless as he responded without hesitation. "Please do."
You couldn't tell who leaned in first, who kissed who, all you knew was the feeling of his lips on yours, a calloused hand cradling your face, and how good it felt to give into it all.

marriage pact — stiles stilinski x reader
Tumblr media
☄. *. ⋆
content warnings and genre: unrequited love, heartbreak — angst
˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚
synopsis: you and stiles had made a pack as kids to get married when the time came
✧.*
in a quaint garden bathed in soft afternoon sunlight, the air was abuzz with the melody of laughter and cheerful chatter. white chairs were neatly arranged in rows, leading to a flower-adorned altar where you stood, radiant in your wedding gown. beside you, your now-husband, smiled adoringly, his eyes filled with love and anticipation. as the ceremony began, your heart raced with excitement.
among the guests, your eyes found stiles stilinski, his usually animated face now tinged with a bittersweet mixture of joy and melancholy. memories of your childhood came flooding back: the days when you and stiles had made that whimsical pact, pinky-swearing that if you were both still single at 30, you would marry each other.
stiles watched you exchange vows with Isaac, his lips curling into a wistful smile. he remembered the day you two had concocted that pact, a mixture of innocent dreams and youthful naiveté. back then, it was a mere joke, a silly promise made by two best friends who thought they'd be inseparable forever. but life had its own plans, and now, he stood there witnessing the culmination of your journey with someone else.
as the ceremony continued, stiles couldn't help but steal glances at you. your happiness was palpable, your eyes sparkling with adoration for isaac. he couldn't deny the beauty of the love you shared, even if it meant his own heart was breaking in the process. he found solace in the memories of your adventures together, the late-night talks, and the unwavering support you'd given each other over the years.
the reception followed, a joyful celebration under the open sky. stiles watched from a distance as you danced with isaac, your laughter carried by the wind. he held a glass of champagne, toasting to your happiness with a mixture of genuine joy and masked sorrow. the guests around him chatted and laughed, unaware of the complex emotions that churned within him.
when the time came for toasts, stiles stood up, his voice steady but laced with emotion. he spoke of your unwavering friendship, the unbreakable bond you shared since childhood. he recounted tales of your misadventures and the countless moments that defined your relationship. amidst the smiles and chuckles, his gaze met yours, and for a fleeting moment, the weight of his unspoken feelings hung heavy in the air.
as the night waned, he found himself stealing away to a quiet corner of the garden. you eventually found him, a concerned look on your face. he managed a small smile, brushing off your worry with a lighthearted joke. but you knew him too well. the unshed tears glistened in his eyes, the cracks in his facade too obvious to ignore.
“stiles,” you said softly, reaching out to touch his arm. “are you okay?” he nodded, taking a deep breath. “yeah, i am. just reminiscing, you know?”
you leaned against the railing beside him, your gaze fixed on the stars above. “it's been quite a journey, hasn't it?” he chuckled, a touch of sadness in his voice. “yeah, from making that ridiculous pact to this. life works in mysterious ways.”
you bumped your shoulder gently against his, a fond smile on your lips. “i'm glad you're here, stiles. you've always been a constant in my life.” he turned to you, his eyes searching yours for a moment before he mustered a genuine smile. “and i always will be.”
in that moment, you both knew that while the nature of your relationship had evolved, the bond you shared remained unbreakable. as the night drew to a close, you held onto the memories of your shared history and looked forward to the future with isaac, carrying stiles' silent support with you, forever etched in your heart. if only you hadn't missed the tears that filled his eyes when you weren't looking.

gay rant time. :)
i cried a little bit today. it's the beginning of pride month, and watching a video about the owl house made me realize how INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT that show is. like, it finally downed on me.
we have a latina protagonist, with a darker skin tone, who likes both boys AND girls, and has a crush on this other little witch who also likes girls. and they're the main couple. THE MAIN COUPLE. on a DISNEY show. not side characters, not just an implied non confirmed crush, no. we see it all. we see them blush, ask each other out, share their past with each other, share their first kiss. we get actual development of a MAIN SAPHIC COUPLE!! that's INCREDIBLE. it's ACTUALLY DEVELOPED. Not just thrown out there on the last season with no development at all (all representation is important tho, don't get me wrong).
it's literally so important for kids to see this. to see two girls holding hands, explicitly saying they're dating, kissing. it's incredibly important to show them that it's okay. but it's also important for the parents, to see that hey, maybe they've been wrong about some things. a sense of acceptance, a new perspective on the world... i wish i got that. you know?
it also makes me extremely emotional the fact that: cartoons like adventure time, svtfoe, gravity falls, regular show, and etc have been part of my childhood, of my generation's childhood. these cartoons have marked us, changed our senses of humor, the ways we see the world, have made us laugh and are now nostalgic for us. “remember gravity falls?” “oh yeah, it came out when i was seven. i still love it!”
and now — now cartoons like the owl house, shera, amphibia, dragon prince, they'll ALL mark the NEXT generation. these incredible, representative, fun, beautifully animated cartoons, will shape other children just like the cartoons i mentioned before did for us. and that makes me so, so happy. it's a weird feeling, this proud sensation deep in my chest that makes me wanna bawl my eyes out in the best way possible. there's couldn't be any better medias for the next generation than these.
so thank you. thank you to every single person who's fought for our rights, to the creators of shows like this, to the animators, everyone. happy pride. <3

Unbreakable Bonds
Word Count: 642
Warnings: None
Miles Morales x Fem! Reader ︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶
The sun was beginning to set over the city, casting a warm golden glow on the streets below. Miles and you had spent countless evenings like this, exploring the neighborhood they had grown up in. They were inseparable, their friendship forged in the fires of childhood mischief and shared dreams. They had witnessed each other's triumphs and supported each other through challenges, forming an unbreakable bond that would stand the test of time.
As they walked along the familiar streets, Miles couldn't help but feel a sense of comfort in your presence. She had always been the goofy and sweet one, with a contagious laughter that could brighten even the darkest days. Miles admired her ability to find joy in the simplest things, and he cherished every moment they spent together.
"Remember that time we built that makeshift rocket out of cardboard boxes?" Miles chuckled, reminiscing about one of their many adventures.
You grinned, her eyes sparkling with nostalgia. "How could I forget? We spent hours trying to make it fly, only to crash land right into Mrs. Johnson's rose garden!"
They both burst into laughter, their shared memories washing over them like a warm wave. It was moments like these that made their friendship so special.
As they continued their walk, they passed by a small park, the sound of children's laughter filling the air. Miles noticed a familiar twinkle in your eyes.
"Do you remember when we used to come to this park every summer?" she asked, her voice filled with a mix of longing and fondness.
Miles nodded, a smile tugging at his lips. "Yeah, we'd spend the whole day here, swinging on the swings, climbing the jungle gym, and getting ice cream from that old truck."
The memories flooded back, and for a moment, it felt as if time stood still. They could almost hear the echoes of their laughter and feel the warmth of the summer sun on their faces.
As the night grew darker, they found themselves sitting on a bench overlooking the city skyline. The lights twinkled like stars, illuminating their faces with a soft glow.
"You know," Miles began, his voice filled with a mix of vulnerability and sincerity, "I'm really grateful to have you in my life, (Y/N). We've been through so much together, and even when we're apart, it feels like you're always with me."
You turned to him, her eyes glistening with unspoken emotions. "I feel the same way, Miles. It's like no matter where we go or what we do, our bond remains unbreakable."
They sat in silence for a moment, their hearts speaking volumes that words couldn't express. In that stillness, they knew they shared something special, something that went beyond friendship.
Suddenly, Miles reached out and gently took your hand in his own, intertwining their fingers. The touch sent a jolt of electricity through both of them, as if the universe was aligning their paths.
Without a word, they leaned in, their lips meeting in a tender kiss. It was a moment filled with the weight of unspoken feelings and the promise of something more.
As they pulled away, their gazes locked, they knew that their friendship had transformed into something deeper. It was a connection that couldn't be easily defined, but they were both willing to explore it, one step at a time.
"I think I've always known," Miles whispered, his voice barely audible but filled with certainty.
You smiled, her eyes reflecting the love and affection she held for him. "Me too, Miles. Our bond has always been something extraordinary."
In that quiet moment, as the world continued to spin around them, they knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, they would face them together. Their friendship had blossomed into a love that was as unbreakable as the bond they had shared since childhood.

summer love || Eddie Munson
a/n: i am thinking about writing a few blurbs for this story like when Eddie realized he liked her and also maybe some memories from when they were young like when they first met. so let me know if you want those or if you have any other ideas.
summary : y/n hasnt returned to Hawkins since she was fourteen and on her first day back she bumps into her old childhood bestfriend who she hasnt spoken to or seen in years. They are having an amazing time until he asks one question. why didnt she return? warnings : fluff and some angst
Tumblr media
Summer was your favorite time of year, cherishing the warm weather, the much needed break from school and being able to hangout with your friends whenever. But this summer was different. You had to visit your mom in Hawkins, Indiana and spend your summer there. The journey to Hawkins, Indiana, felt like a step into the past. The memories of those childhood visits were hazy, a blend of long-forgotten adventures and fleeting moments with your mom.
The small town welcomed you with friendly faces. Yet, you couldn't shake the feeling of being almost a complete stranger here. The memories were distant, and much had changed since your last visit at the age of fourteen.
The first day was as fun as it could be in the small town where you arrived at forest hills trailer park. Your mom greeted you warmly, but quickly headed off to work, So you opted to explore your surroundings. You set out to revisit the old places that had once been your havens of adventure and wonder. The book store.
The bell tinkled gently as you entered the bookshop. The scent of aged paper and ink filled the air creating an inviting atmosphere that seemed to embrace every visitor. You made your way past rows of neatly arranged shelves. You began to read the titles of the romance novels running your fingers along the spines, drawn to the promise of captivating love stories.
A shiver ran down your spine as you continued to scan the titles in the romance section. The feeling of being watched hung heavy in the air, and you couldn't shake the sensation that someone's eyes were fixed on you. Your heart quickened its pace, and you discreetly glanced around, trying to identify the source of your unease.
When your eyes met another.Your eyes locked across the bookshop, his gaze intense. He stood amidst the fantasy section.A strange sense of familiarity washed over you, a feeling that you had encountered before, though you couldn't place when or where. His face held a familiarity that teased at the edges of my memory, like a half-remembered dream.
You  broke eye contact and drew your attention back onto the book in your hands. Walking over to the cashier paying and walking straight out. As you were walking out you heard your name being called, turning around you saw him again. The guy in the bookstore.
“y/n” he said but it sounded more like a question almost as if he was unsure. “Yeah” I replied back, sounding just as unsure as he did. “Woah uh you look different… you look good not that you didn't look good before but i just haven't seen you in like so many years i wasn't sure if it was actually you but you are and wow” the boy rambled on rather fast, not even stopping for air.
His features slowly came into focus, and a rush of memories flooded back.
‘’ Eddie?’’ you screamed as you launched yourself  into his arms and he hugged you back tightly.“You look so different, how have you been?” “Well you know, I could be better still stuck here, redoing senior year for the third time but other than that im just peachy’’ he said with a genuine laugh you smiled back at him. “Well third times the charm” you laugh. At that moment, you felt as happy as ever, grateful for this unexpected reunion.
It was a joyous moment, filled with laughter, as we strolled back to the trailer park, eagerly sharing stories and catching up on the last few years. you noticed a hint of disappointment flicker across his face every time you brought up a funny memory from your childhood. you did your best to brush it off, sensing there might be something more beneath the surface.
We sat down on my front porch and you looked over at him before he spoke. “Can i ask you a question y/n” you nodded your head.
“Why didn't you come back ? you told me you were coming back and that you would be here for the summer again, you came to hawkins every summer and then one day you just didn't show up. I waited for you at the bus stop and I wrote to you… but I never got a reply.”
The question you had been dreading finally surfaced. you looked up at him with a sad smile and let out a shaky sigh. " I didn't want to be your friend anymore. I only came here every summer to visit you, my mom didn't care if i was here or not though she most likely would of enjoyed it more if i had just stayed at my dads. We had been friends since we were six years old and i started to feel different okay?’’
1980 flashback
Today was Eddie's fourteenth birthday. You spent all morning making him the perfect chocolate cake that you knew he was going to absolutely devour in five minutes. You had spent all weekend trying to find the perfect gift for him and settled on the Lord of the Rings books which he had been talking about wanting forever. You put on your nicest sundress, curled your hair slightly and even did some basic makeup. You weren't sure what these new feelings were. Why did you all of a sudden feel the need to look your best infront of him? You shoved those feelings down and headed over to his trailer. Gift bag in one hand and cake in the other.
“Eddie” you screamed excitedly as the boy rushed out of the trailer to help you inside.
You placed the cake on the table and put his gift bag in front of him.you started singing happy birthday to him and he flushed red hugging you tightly. He was already eyeing the cake and bouncing with excitement. “You can open your gift first or we can eat cake first it's up to you birthday boy” you said to him
‘’ I can multitask, how about we do both” he replied, overjoyed, grabbing plates and digging into the cake. Then grabbing his gift bag and opening it.you watched as he looked at the books with nothing but happiness.
He jumped up from his chair and gave you a bone crushing hug lifting you from your chair.
“Eddie, I need air please’’ you said , hardly breathing at this point.
“Oh yeah sorry” he replied, letting you go and staring at you for a moment before thanking you a million times and placing kisses all over your face.you giggled uncontrollably and started pushing him away. You stared at him for a moment. Both of you are out of breath from laughing and smiles on your faces.
Were you in love with your best friend?
“ I'm really sorry eds” you said to him as he stared at you and hurt was all over his face.
“ i think- i think maybe i liked you” you told him truthfully he laughed softly The sadness that had clouded his face suddenly lifted, replaced by a glimmer of relief and understanding ‘’ i liked you too y/n” “ no eds not in a best friend kind of way… more than that’’ you said shyly
‘’ i know’’ he said looking at me happily
“ what- what do you mean you know? I never told you and I tried really hard not to show it too. Do you know how hard it was not to tell you ! i didn't want to ruin our friendship because i thought it would never work cause we only saw each other once a year for a couple days and there was no way you felt the same” you rambled quickly not stopping for air once before he put his hands onto your face and smiled at you. you looked at him for a second before quickly looking at his lips. His lips crashed into yours and you smiled into the kiss. You felt like you were fourteen again giggling like a school girl with her first crush.
In that very moment, you were overjoyed and you realized that the 14-year-old version of yourself had envisioned this scenario a million times, at the very least. It was a revelation you never saw coming. All those summers of concealing your feelings for the boy you had grown to care for more deeply than you had ever imagined possible were over. You didn't need to hide those emotions any longer, because it turned out he felt the same way.

Clintasha Advent (9)
Prompt: This year, Steve is insisting that the team give experiences instead of presents at Christmas. Natasha draws Tony's name. What meaningful experience is she going to give a "Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist.”?
For/Prompter: @millenniallust4death
Warnings: Memories of the red room dormitories - and - only that this is not re-read and as it’s written is as it’s come out so all mistakes are not intentional.
Word count: 1.4k
A/N: Gosh I enjoyed this prompt so much. Thank you for your ideas and thoughts, may this make this month one iota lighter for you. Sending all the hugs.
.
“Who do you have?” Clint asks again.
“No,” Natasha responds, “it’s a KK - you don’t get to know.”
“But you’ve been working hard on something, I just want to know who,” he pouts.
“It’s not for you,” she argues, waving him off.
“I know, because if I have Steve, and Bruce is taking Thor to a baseball game as their adventure, oh wait,” he turns, “I’m an idiot. Of course you have Tony.”
Natasha shrugs.
“Took far to long to get there, Barton,” she smiles.
“Ok, so now tell me what you’re doing.”
Shaking her head, there’s a pause.
“What do you get the man who has everything?”
Clint shrugs, “the man who can get anything for himself too.”
He can feel the walls lowering, doubt creeping into whatever Natasha had thought of.
“It’s… an adventure,” she admits.
Clint waits, wanting her to say more, and knowing she will if he waits.
“What’s the one thing he always wants? Always wants more of?”
Clint thinks.
He knows his friend.
“Alcohol and knowledge,” he smiles.
“Right, but the former, he promised Pepper about, and the latter, well, he’s too smart for his own good. He knows things and can put them together before someone has even blinked.”
“He likes tech?” Clint says unhelpfully.
Natasha nods.
She looks at him and feels the conversation may not be a waste.
“Actually,” she decides, “you can help.”
Clint perks up, and nods, he likes helping, being included in Natasha’s present schemes.
She leads him to her own lab, the VR headset sitting in the middle.
“It’s rudimentary,” she tells him.
“What is it?”
“It recreates places.”
Clint frowns.
“I don’t get it.”
Natasha nods, seemingly anticipating this.
Opening her laptop, she types in coding, and sighs, backspacing two lines and then starting again.
“Tell me somewhere that you can see in your mind, tell me what you can remember from it.”
Clint thinks of his childhood bedroom.
“White walls, posters on the walls, small bookshelf in the corner. A window, a dirty one, a bed in the corner, a ball on the floor.”
It’s how he left it.
“How old are you in the room?”
“Seven?”
He sees what’s she’s doing as she programs the other other parameters, the town he lived, his approximate age, the age of the room and everything else she can think of.
“Put on the headset,” she points.
He does, and finds himself in his childhood bedroom.
The ai, recreating the room from the date, the time period, his description and musings.
“What? How?”
He looks around. Posters, the set up of the room.
“My bed had cars on it,” he remembers, and the bed changes before him.
“Yeah,” he says quietly.
He can almost hear footsteps on the stairs.
“Can I see?” Natasha asks.
Without speaking, he hands the headset over.
“An American bedroom,” she smiles.
“Tony can do anything, but this might be something new,” Clint tells her.
“Steve did say an experience,” Natasha shrugs,
“You do one,” Clint says, curiously.
Natasha nods, as though she was expecting it.
She doesn’t always default to offering a piece of herself for someone else, but in this case, perhaps she feels it’s necessary.
Seeing Clint’s childhood room, she offers her own.
He glances at some of the coding, surprised to find that there’s preprogrammed places.
The file of the Red Room has seven locations.
“Don’t,” she requests softly.
“Just the dormitories,” he loads the file and she takes the headset, looking into the room and taking steps forward into it.
She’s hesitant to hand them over, but she does anyway.
Clint looks at her, uncertain now.
“Are you sure?”
She shrugs.
“I’ll delete the others, but I suppose I should have something to show him.”
It makes sense to Clint, now, the long hours working on this project.
He places the headset on.
It’s grey, 6 beds lined up, handcuffs glistening and waiting. Threadbare linens on the beds and thin mattresses.
Bars on the windows.
Bars on the door.
Locks on the inside of the doors seems like a strange choice.
He walks towards it, and he wonders if Natasha can see what he does.
“They’d make us lock ourselves in,” she clarifies as he reaches out.
He takes the headset off, the trepidation of being stuck in the locked dormitory feeling too ominous.
“A happy place,” he demands, and she smiles at his feelings.
“Here,” she supplies.
He puts them back on.
“The cabin!”
His delight at seeing it, all round him, shows.
“There’s even the crocheted blankets,” he grins.
“Show him this,” he decides for her, the memory of little Natasha sleeping in a cold dormitory, lined up with six other little girls, locking themselves in and locking themselves up a little too much. Knowing it happened is one thing, seeing it feels… too much.
He becomes lost in thought.
“Where do you think Tony would go?” he asks, imagining a strip club, or maybe a party.
He hands Natasha the headset, and she plugs it back in. Clint watches her update some software, and then shuts down the program and the computer.
“Do you think it’s too much? That he won’t like it? He can improve on it, it’s more just a prototype,” she says biting down on the side of her finger.
“I think he’s going to love it,” he assures her.
.
“It’s my present, isn’t it?” Tony says, bouncing in a way only he can.
Christmas Eve seemed like the only time that Natasha felt comfortable in giving him his gift. Close enough to Christmas but not a shock on the actual day.
She almost felt nervous.
“If you don’t like it, or it doesn’t work, it’s not my fault okay?”
Tony grumbles, his eyes still blindfolded.
“Just show me, I’m sure I’m going to love it.”
“Okay, but let me explain first.”
Tony stops moving almost sensing the seriousness in her voice.
“Fine, can I take the blindfold off?”
Natasha eases it off his head and he looks around to find the VR set close by.
“You’re hard to buy for, you know? It’s like.. What do you get someone who has done everything, has everything and doesn’t want anything?”
She hands him the set.
“So I made you something.”
He looks at her curiously.
“It’s a recreation device, it’s probably not as good as what you could of done.. But…”
She turns on the system.
“Tell me a place you’ve been, that you’ve always wanted to go back to.”
Tony frowns, thinking and not quite understanding.
“Um,” he pauses.
Natasha considers that it could be a personal question.
“Tell me about Pepper’s apartment,” he prompts.
“Um. It’s spacious, there’s art on the wall. Monet I think. She’s got a big kitchen, that leads into the dining room and the table is big. Always has paperwork on it.”
As he speaks the words the place comes to life through the headset, and he gasps.
“Do you know what you’ve done?”
She isn’t sure what he means.
“Here, hold this,” he hands her the VR headset.
He takes the computer and adds code in.
“You’ve done a great job,” he smiles, turning it to show her.
“We can turn it to holograms, but that might be something for later, here, it’s voice activated now so you don’t have to type it in. Describe a place,” he offers.
“You do it,” she replies, smiling.
“Nat, this is great, thank you,” he says genuinely.
He then launches into describing a room, a bedroom she thinks, a kids one at that.
“Who’s is it?”she asks curiously.
“Mine,” he says softly, “my mother decorated it when I was little before my father changed it.”
“It was blue, with rabbits on the edge, a chair we used to to sit in and read together. I learnt in her lap.”
Natasha takes the headset for him and sees it.
“It looks so cozy,” she says smiling, handing it back.
“Anyway, Merry Christmas. I just wanted to give you something that… Well something that you didn’t have.”
Tony looks up then.
Takes the headset off and looks at her sincerely.
“Thank you, Natasha, this is… way better than what I got Barton.”
They both laugh.
“Do you want me to stay?” she asks.
“No… I think… I’ll be playing with this for a while,” he laughs, “I’ll see you at breakfast though?”
She groans.
“Please get some sleep, Pepper will kill me.”
Natasha taps the headset.
“See you tomorrow, Shellhead.”
