"You've got it on your nose," I wipe the frosting from my son's face as he stares blankly up at me.
I was in the middle of icing the cake for Asteria's birthday party, the four-year-old girl seated atop the counter as she watched me and her brother decorate the vanilla cake a lavender color.
"Mama, I want some on my nose too." The youngest whines and I smile at her. "This is for the cake my sweet, perhaps if there are leftovers we can." I hum, brushing her hair from her cheek. She nods, black hair bobbing with the movement.
I look down at the six-year-old boy who is about to dig his hands right into the bowl full of frosting. "Orion." I reprimand as I look down at him, his gaze snaps up to me with his brows at his hairline and a wide cheeky grin that was inherently his father's, knowing he's been caught in the act. "What'd I just say?" I look pointedly at him and he quickly clasps his hands behind his back, looking up at me innocently with all too good of posture.
I smile, grabbing the boy by his middle and hoisting him up onto the counter next to his sister.
“Mama, I want this one.” My youngest child held up a star-shaped piping tip, the metal held up to her eye as she squinted through it. I shake my head with a breathless laugh, taking the object and placing it into a long triangular bag.
"Okay, this is called a piping bag," I hand my son the item. "Can you hold it open while Asteria and I scoop the frosting in?" I ask and he nods dutifully, making it his mission to hold the bag as still as possible.
Asteria grabs a miniature spatula to match mine, helping me shovel the frosting down into the bag. I'd get most of the substance into the bag but she'd push it down, Orion straining as the bag grew heavier. "Good, you did perfect, both of you." I smile at them and they both look up at me with bright grins. I hand Orion the bag we just made after snipping off the corner, telling him how to hold it.
I give Asteria her own bag too, hers filled with a baby blue frosting. "Okay," I set the white cake in the middle of them with a delicate touch. "So it’ll go like this," I pick up my bag and begin to pipe a design around the bottom of the cake. "Don't squeeze too hard, and don't stay in one spot for too long, it’s simple." I pull away, showing both of the kids. They nod excitedly, tightly holding onto their bags. "Alright, go ahead," I say and their smiles widen.
Asteria takes her time, twisting her lips to the side as she does precisely what I showed her with a focus I admire, the four-year-old is already doing better than some of my culinary students on her first try. Orion, however, was just having fun, making big draping curtains down his side of the cake as well as stripes and polka dots everywhere.
I feel a familiar pair of eyes on me and my spine locks, head whipping over to the archway where my mate leans, staring at me.
The kids didn't notice him, I barely noticed him as he stood there and just admired me from a distance. A smile curled his lips as he watched our children be so excited to learn one of my passions, with utter devotion in his violet eyes while looking at me.
I smile and walk towards him, wrapping my arms around the back of his neck and pressing a kiss to his cheek.
"I love you," He hums, his hand coming to my waist as he looks down at me. I tilt my head at him, confused as to what prompted such words. He didn't offer an explanation, didn't have one. Just continued analyzing my every feature. I got nervous under his stare, even though we’d been together for decades now he still had butterflies soaring in my stomach, so I avoided his gaze and looked back to the kids.
“They’re getting so old.” I sigh, leaning my head on his chest. He presses a kiss to the crown of my head, both of us watching in silence as our children sneakily pipe a dollop of frosting onto their fingers before licking it clean off as if we weren’t watching. This cake definitely wouldn’t be served at Asteria’s party, now that I’ve seen just how unsanitary they were being— though I didn’t care about that, I’d happily make another cake if it meant they were enjoying themselves.
I look back to Rhys, his eyes coming down onto me with the utmost focus. Without saying a word, he leans down and presses a kiss to my lips, his other hand coming to my face as he pulls me closer. I rise onto my toes to lean into it, my chest pressing against his as he conveys every inch of his love into that kiss.
A smile spreads over my lips as I fall flat onto my feet and disconnect our lips, he backs away with one last peck. "You taste like sugar, sugar." He hums and I scrunch my nose at the cheesiness of his words. "Eww!" Orion boos at us and we both look at our children who have disgusted expressions. "I know, that pun wasn't my best work." Rhys sighs and I roll my eyes.
"I'm done," Our daughter holds out her messy piping bag, frosting running down the sides of her hands. I smile and rush towards her, grabbing the bag before it can drip onto the ground.
"Does mom really taste like sugar?” Orion asks his father, catching my attention. “I don’t know, I suppose I’ll have to find out.” My husband hums, wrapping his arms around my shoulders, barring me as he presses a kiss to my shoulder.
“What if I told you I’m made of sugar.” I let on, Asteria staring up at me like I just turned her world upside down. “Then I’d say you need to run because I’m the sugar monster.” Rhys’ hands tickle up my sides and I squeal as he tosses me over his shoulder with an ease I marveled at, running me into the living room as I hit my fists against his back. “Rhys!” I shout, the kids chasing after us.
“We have to save Mama!” Asteria rushed up to me, grabbing my hand as Orion took his father on, jumping onto him like a spider monkey, attempting to tackle him to the floor.
“Put me down!” I shout at my mate, he carries me over to the couch before flipping me down onto the sofa’s cushions. The children come to my side, asking if I’m okay, guarding me from Rhys.
The High Lord easily sweeps both the children up into his arms, their bodies hanging halfway down his shoulders, causing them to yell and kick their feet in protest. Rhys leans down and pecks me on the lips with a wide smile. “I love you too, by the way,” I confess as he pulls back, the children still on his shoulders attempting to take down their father but to no avail. “I know.” He winks.

prompt | anonymous asked: Could I get some general relationship headcanons (with some fluff please!) for Chishiya, Arisu, and Kuina 🥺👉👈 let me know if you need a more specific ask! :)
warnings | written with the intention of female pronouns but can be read as gender neutral, very minor suggestive implications, mentions of alcohol, nicotine and eating habits, might be considered kinda cheesy oops, the use of the pet name ‘bunny’.
word count | 1.4K
author’s note | ‘m loving this request. this is written with the intention of it being pre-borderlands.
Tumblr media
Shuntarō Chishiya
- Frequenting local cafes for routinely study dates. He helps you with topics that you may struggle on and you buy him the bizarre flavored ‘treat of the week’ as a thank you. He jokes around that you’re probably using him as a test subject, because who would order sweet potato brownies with the premise that they would taste good. Much to his surprise, they actually do.
- Visiting a cat cafe once, but not getting around to completing any work. The image of Chishiya cradling a fluffy kitten close to his chest and holding softened eye contact with it is now your permanent lock screen. He has a matching lock screen of you holding a kitten from under the armpits and touching noses with it.
- Learning new skills together. Chishiya is pretty much down for anything that he considers interesting enough. That’s how you ended up frustratingly trying to follow along to a complex origami cat tutorial at 2 in the morning as Chishiya worked quietly with his earbuds in, listening to a different tutorial. Only once he presented you with a perfect paper flower did you smile for the first time in the past hour, the frustration dissipating. That very flower has claimed its indefinite place on your bedside table, something that didn’t go unnoticed by him.
- Doing escape rooms together every so often. It baffles you to some degree how he figures things out so easily, but then again, you’ve known how smart your boyfriend was since the day you met so it shouldn’t really come as a surprise. You just can’t help but admire him, and voice these admirations out loud. Your compliments being the only ones which truly affect him.
- Despite how genius your boyfriend is, you remain concerned about the mental toll college might have on him. If he is stressed, he barely gives it away, but you’ve grown to read through his indifference and pick up when something is wrong - even if he’s attempting to hide it for your disburden. You allow him to de-stress in your arms, playing with the tips of his hair and speaking through what has got him so troubled.
- Late night dates that consist of trips to the corner store where you buy your favourite snacks and walk down to the beach together. It’s a relaxing way to wind down after a stressful week filled with work and college. If it’s not too cold that night, you substitute sitting on your usual bench for a stroll along the sand. If he finds a pretty seashell, Chishiya will give it to you wordlessly.
- He buys you a lot of small things that reminds him of you. A cute keychain he found by chance while buying groceries, splurging his money on a random claw machine because he spotted a plushie character from that show you really like, buying your favourite snacks to calm you down before a big exam that you’ve been studying really hard for. It’s the little things that show how much he really loves you.
Ryōhei Arisu
- Offering him a place to stay for a few days if he needs a break from his family, Arisu will pack up his gaming laptop along with him and you two will game with each other side by side. He anticipates the moment you rest your head on his shoulder and once you do, he rests his own head upon yours with a small: “you tired, bunny?”
- Being extremely supporting and non-judgemental on the topic of him getting a job. You search listings almost daily and send any promising ones through to him, leaving an encouraging message afterwards in hopes he gets the right intention. You care for him deeply and don’t want to see his father eventually kicking him out the house for being unemployed and making the situation ten times more difficult for him.
- Helping him get out more and introducing him to places he quickly grows to love. A quaint coffee shop with a grassy roof hidden deep within the cracks that he never would have found if it weren’t for you. It’s become your usual spot for dates, and Arisu enjoys the tranquility of it all.
- Going on trips to the game store together, even though Arisu usually just buys all his games online, and he’s pretty sure you do too. Regardless, it’s an excuse to meet up and hang out for a few hours after, something he’s found has become more enthralling than gaming.
- Staying up on video call into the late hours of the night as you both battle it out on some mmorpg. You’re confused when you see his idle avatar and look over at your phone screen to find him staring at you in a trance. It catches you off guard at first, but seeing him snap back to reality upon getting caught and getting all flustered left you replaying the scene over in your head for days later.
- Dates to the arcade, because of course. You two definitely hog a specific game with a line of pouting children waiting impatiently to get their chance. Arisu only agrees to move on when you mention a new game you spotted earlier. There is no new game, you just feel bad for the kids. Once he’s caught on, you merely give his lips a quick peck and you’re instantly forgiven.
- Playing in one of those immersive game machines with the curtains on both sides, only for Arisu to stare at you dumbly, leaving you a flustered and confused mess. This usually leads to a one-sided lean in and a small make out, only for an innocent kid to pull back the curtain and run away mortified. Their screams are the highlight of your boyfriend’s day, and you swear he’s holding some mental record of how many kids he traumatize through doing this.
Hikari Kuina
- Working at the same clothing store and having Kuina intervene whenever you’re faced with a rude customer. She might not be all too friendly if they insulted you, and if getting fired is the cost of standing up for you, then so be it. You’d quit alongside her and find some place new to work.
- Helping tend to her sickly mother in hospital, whom you had made speechless upon your first visit. She was delightfully thrilled upon finally being introduced to her daughter’s significant other, Kuina sharing to you afterwards that she hadn’t seen her mother smiling so brightly in a long time. You always present her mother with gifts upon each visit, whether it be flowers or a small cake. She’s become like your own mother, and so you help pay towards hospital bills as well.
- Comforting Kuina if she ever gets upset about her past (especially her relationship with her father) or her mother’s current poor health. You make her feel so valid; it leaves her a sobbing mess in your arms as you comfort her with soothing strokes and affectionate mumbles. Once her wailing has calmed, you offer to make her favourite - hot chocolate topped with cream.
- Constant sleepovers, which include wearing face masks, ordering takeout, watching some sappy romance before switching it over to an action movie and sipping on some cheap beer. The buzz of the alcohol always makes you more daring as you suggest showering together, and you’re never turned down by your equally audacious girlfriend.
- Helping her overcome her nicotine addiction and being the initial person to suggest chewing on a dummy cigarette whenever she felt the urge to smoke. Her mother couldn’t thank you enough for getting her into this, expressing her hidden fear of having to watch Kuina smoke herself into ill health or worse, a premature grave.
- In return, she looks out for your own well-being: reaching out to hold your hand before you both cross the street, showing up with lunch the next day at work if she thinks you haven’t been eating as much lately, keeping headache pills in her bag ever since you complained about a migraine that one time, keeping an extra umbrella in the break room just in case it rains later that day and you’ll need one.
- It’s never a dull moment dating Kuina, always planning fun and exciting dates like getting drunk in a private karaoke room only for it to lead to sloppy make outs. The one time she was so insistent on riding the kiddies train at the amusement park, only for the both of you to fall off once you reached the sharp bend in the tracks. It left you both a giggling mess, but the pain afterwards definitely made the whole situation regrettable.

1962
She waited. Body plush on the bed donning the new satin burgundy lingerie Lee had gifted her. The only light in the room was coming from the lamp on her end of the table and she was grateful for it.With the curtains drawn, the room was dim and it depicted the mood she’d been in for the past week.
She should’ve loathed him, shouldn’t even have shown up to see him. But it would be the last time she would do so and she’d put her pride aside to be engrossed in him one last time. She would cherish the moment, cling to him like she never had before because she really would miss him. She knew she’d miss him terribly. Being far away from him would crush her heart, but she hoped the distance would alleviate the guilt.
What they were doing was so wrong. A betrayal that had her aching every single time they met and the following days she would wallow in guilt. Yet she’d do it all over again that one day of the week, at times even more, come back to the same room to be at his disposal. To be taken by him, pushed into the bed by his weight and fucked into a puddy mess.
She had deceived all those around her. So seemingly innocent with the way she carried herself in a manner that would never raise questions, that would never place faults on her family. With her pretty hair, the curl of her lashes and bright eyes she was the epitome of what all the girls in the town wanted to be. The daughter of the undersheriff of Knockemstiff provided her family with admiration from those in the town, it placed her family on a pedestal. It provided her with a fine education outside of her town in a nice college.
She should have been different, should have never involved herself in such destructive behavior. Actions that could very well place her family in an uncomfortable and embarrassing situation.
Her family, friends and especially Lee’s wife, Jane—they were all victims. Y/N couldn’t believe she had let things get so far with Lee. That she could ever betray her family by sleeping with one of their closest friends, her father’s boss.
She felt despicable, skin crawling as she felt herself get hot with shame all over again. It was a never ending cycle of self-hatred. It was especially so when she thought of Lee’s two children that her eyes were brimming with tears. She huffed as she thought that her last evening with Lee seemed to already be going downhill with the inundation of thoughts drowning her, never leaving her alone.
Her and the sheriff. They were forbidden fruit—they had sinned far greater than anybody. Betrayed those around them when they succumbed to their sweet desires.
Yet even with clear awareness of what she was doing, of what her actions could mean for those she was closest to she still went about doing it. Still found herself waiting for Lee Bodecker every Friday evening in the rundown motel minutes away from their families.
She deduced that it must have been her age, still young and lacking experience in many areas of her life. Lee had given her something she had never experienced before—exhilarating excitement. A type of excitement that kept her up most nights, thinking of how their next meeting would be like. What he would do to her next. It was the sneaking around, the long glances and especially the hours spent in room 505. A week ago, she had felt utter bliss being with him. Looked forward to falling into his arms, create crescent moons on his back with her nails and press their lips together in a matter only both knew how to.
She loved the domineering way he walked into their room with his dark leather jacket and sheriff’s uniform. The badge always seemed to do it for her. She was putty in his hands. Always.
She was so young next to him and had learned too much from him in such a short time as if she was his student. She learned what it meant to have her toes curling in pure content, to have her mouth hang open with no sounds coming out because the pleasure was that good. She couldn’t be blamed for putting herself in such a sinful disposition, he had unearthed a whole different side of life for her. The intimacy she had never experienced with anybody else. It was why she kept coming back.
Lee was far older than she was. A husband, father of two children and the town’s most important asset—the sheriff. Everything about him screamed authority. The way he walked into a room and without uttering a single word he’d command everybody’s attention. It was how he’d gotten to her so easily.
She’d grown up before his very eyes; transformed into a young woman and he had taken notice. How couldn’t he? She was so pretty. He didn’t feel an ounce of guilt as he took her and not even afterwards when they both went back to their respective families. He couldn’t feel the guilt when he was so utterly engulfed in her. When all he could think of was how her hair smelled like strawberries, how her small hands grabbed tufts of his hair all the meanwhile her legs wrapped around him. He was delirious with lust, seeing her and her only.
Y/N was on break from college and had more time to visit her father at the station. She’d drop off lunch a few times a week for him and when her father was out of his office to tend to last minute duties, Y/N would knock on Lee’s office and offer him her father’s lunch. It was kind of her, the way she thought of him. It was then when those kind gestures began to build on him, a type of effect that snowballed into yearning to have her.
Maybe it had been her velvety voice or the way she seemed to carry herself with such quiet elegance and a feel of serene ambiance. The clothes she wore were perfectly stitched for her. Bright high square neckline tops and high waisted cotton shorts with drawstrings. Her choice of clothing gave a peek to the silkiness of her legs and it wasn’t much but it had him hardening every time she walked through his office door.
He didn’t really know how he’d done it. He’d just talk to her, sweet talk his way into making her want him. He’d stare longingly at her, the blue of his eyes romanticizing whatever it was that he wanted from her. Had he been fully honest with her she would have never looked at him, never let him fuck her.
Jane and I are separated, Lee had told her. Deceiving her was the only way,  Lee couldn’t have done it any other way. And she had eaten it all up. Believed him as his wife stayed at home more and more, limiting her interactions with him in public. It was a lie that had worked out until it hadn’t.
It wasn’t until a week back, Y/N had gone to the farmer’s market wanting to buy fresh produce. Upon entering the highly filled space of the market she noticed the back of Jane’s head. How couldn’t she? She was the only redhead in the whole town of Knockemstiff. She had almost turned back immediately, feeling nervous at the sight of the woman who warmed Lee’s bed every night. Jane had looked back suddenly and met her eyes within an instant and a smile formed on her lips. She turned, a moment still stuck in her head as if it happened in slow motion, and it felt like the air had been knocked out of her. The swell of her midriff was unavoidable, too obvious to tear her eyes away from it. Jane walked forward, hand on her belly.
“It’s so good to see you, Y/N.” Jane spoke, voice high pitched as always. She was always so cheery and kind, a smile on her face. And she stood ever so clueless in front of her, before someone who climbed on her husband as often as she could.
Y/N was speechless as the shock was evident on her face. Her stomach was large enough to be over six months and she was right when she was finally able to speak and ask her how far along she was and Jane had confirmed it. She had been on bedrest being a high risk pregnancy but was now feeling more herself, more able to be out and about. And it all made sense to her then.
The sweet and honeyed words that Lee had uttered to her about a separation between him and his wife. That they had drifted apart with time and were waiting for the right time to file for divorce, his excuse for not being able to do so was the upcoming election. It all made sense then. The intimacy they had shared created a blurred line for her, had clouded her thoughts when she was in his arms.
He was good at lying. Fantastic at it, she had to give it to him. He had used his wife’s ordered bed rest to his advantage, had used it to get his way with Y/N. Quench whatever thirst he felt that only she could satiate him.
It angered her, but mostly she felt a deep type of disappointment consume her. What he had done was unforgivable and she couldn’t come forward and say it. She couldn’t because she’d be burnt in the midst of it all too. But she thought of it again and again, went in circles around how he’d done such a thing. How the honey dripping from his lips had been venom in truth. It had all been lies.
It seemed as though decades of experience and a decorated career had given Lee a damned way of always getting what he wanted. Having the ability to twist the truth, to hide facts and move the pieces around to whatever was most convenient for him. He was astute that way. Giving her his absolute attention when he was alone with her, staring at her as if she was the only girl he ever wanted, as if she held the key to the world.
He whispered false promises into her ear, soft and sweet. Convenient. He would kiss her as if he had missed her, as if his day was suddenly a lot better because of her. As if she meant something. That she was more than just a distraction; an easy fuck. And she had fallen for it all, walked right into his trap.
And for Y/N, all of the sweet nothings he would say to her, the lust-induced promises he would make to her as they came down from their high always filled her with stupid hope. Clinging onto his every word, his every move. When she was in his arms, she felt the world and all its worries melt away. The blue of his eyes had hypnotized her, the bitter taste of his lips tranquilized her into believing everything he would say.
The door knob to the room began twisting loudly, breaking her from her deep trance. The sound of keys fumbling behind the door and a loud huff coming from the man that destroyed her. She swallowed thickly and wiped the end of her eyes to rid of the evidence of what she already knew. She would do this one last time with him. Succumb to him one last time before it all came to an abrupt end.
“Baby doll.” Lee grinned when he pushed past inside slamming the door shut behind him. His jacket was already on the floor and his harsh steps on their way to the bed. Y/N looked up at him, transforming her saddened look to the smirk she knew he liked so much. She pushed herself from her lying down position to her knees knowing he would love seeing her in the lingerie he had gifted her.
He did. His eyes perked up at the sight of the smooth flesh of her breasts that were almost spilling from the sheer balconette bra, the swell of them tantalizing him. The thin material of her panties, sheer and satin, too were captivating. It earned her a harsh bite of his lip.
“Look at you, doll. It fits you perfectly just like I knew it would.” He groaned as he placed a knee on the bed and grabbed hold of both her arms to pull her towards him.
He kissed her like he wanted to swallow her whole. As if he wanted to print his lips on hers, mark them for life. And she kissed him back with a ferocious need, desperate and sad all at once. Her tongue was swiping against his fighting for dominance. She knew he’d question it, the neediness of her movements. Of how her hands were already unbuckling his belt as she kissed him with seemingly all her might. It would be the last time, he just didn’t know it yet.
“What’s gotten into you baby doll?” Lee hummed as he pulled away. His lips red from her attack, the blue of his eyes gleamed as he felt the throbbing of his cock when she finally brought his pants down halfway. Her hand began palming the thick print through his boxers and she knew that even though he was questioning her, peering up at him and noticing the wild expression on his face, she knew he loved it.
“You missed me that much baby?” He swiped his tongue against his lips as she nodded all the meanwhile pulling him to lay down on the bed. His pants were a puddle on the floor with Y/N’s figure pushing him down onto the soft mattress. He was surprised at her taking the reigns of the situation, showing a dominance she never had before. He would always be the one to push her down onto the bed, attack her lips with a week’s worth of pent up frustration.
“I did miss you.” She whispered. The softness of her hands took hold of his briefs and pulled them down the extremities of his legs. He seemed needy as well, removing his tie and unbuttoning his white shirt. She felt her whole body on fire, needing to touch him and kiss him all at once; a feeling so overwhelming.
Her nimble hands grasped his cock, already hard and head swollen with pent up need. The mere feel of her hands had him groaning and when she began pumping him, his hands reached out to the swell of her breasts. Admiring them wasn’t enough anymore he needed to run his hands over them, cup them in his hands and flick the nipples under his fingers.
She was needy, he noticed from the very beginning. Her movements were eager yet well calculated, knowing what and how he liked it. He knew he would let her take control for the first half, but would make sure to take back the dominance he loved to have when he filled her up.
Her mouth came down on him, tongue flicking against the angry head of his dick before she came down halfway then came up again. Her hands were still pumping the base of his cock, never being able to take him all in her mouth. It made her slightly upset wanting nothing more than to feel him at the back of her throat.
Lee’s orbs glazed over as he watched his girth disappear inside his girl’s mouth. She was so talented that way, savoring him and trying her best to take him all. She was a fast learner. Learned to take him in such a short time, inside the crevice hidden between her thighs and the wetness of her mouth. This time, to Lee, she seemed insatiable. She was moaning, tongue sloppily swooshing at the head and the entirety of his cock. With her swollen lips, she kissed it as if he’d gifted her something entirely far too great and she was grateful for it.
He was a big man in all aspects. His soft belly had come into view as his shirt was discarded on the floor too. She had come to like it so much over the summer, love the fullness of it and the strength that characterized him. His arms were strong, shoulders broad and his piercing blue eyes were the gem she had never quite noticed before.
She never really paid much attention to him before, he was just the sheriff of Knockemstiff, a family friend and her father’s boss. That was all. Yet as the years passed and she grew up, he noticed it and when the time came he gave her the right type of attention—sweet and savory words that had her thighs squeezing together. She had fallen for a man who quite frankly was quite intimidating. Someone who was forbidden.
She took her time with him. Fingers wrapped tightly against his girth keeping a fair momentum all the meanwhile her mouth continued its exploration as if savoring him. Like it was their first time. He tasted so good, salty and just him. Her sweet assault had him groaning above her and one of his hands was still flicking her nipple, struggling to keep it there when her mouth was making everything difficult.
“Fuck baby get up here.” Lee breathed out, one of his hands pulling her hair up forcing her mouth off him. He was always rough with her and she’d grown to love it; learned to take it. To have her skin red and raw from his hands and mouth. Y/N swallowed thickly, knowing exactly what he wanted.
She wiped her mouth with the back of her hand before climbing on top of him, feeling the stiffness of his cock at her clothed core. His hand tangled into her hair and brought their lips together in a sloppy kiss. He felt so good rubbing against her pussy, clothed or not, he was so hard she could every ridge and vein. Desperate to feel more of him, her hips began grinding against the place she wanted to sink down onto. She wanted him so badly but knew what he wanted from her, where he wanted to have his mouth.
When he pulled away from her, he gave her a knowing look and patted her arm. It was his signal for her to move up. She felt her cheeks becoming hot as her hands pushed the small panties down her legs and onto the edge of the bed. She climbed further up until her most private place was in complete direct contact with his face. He sighed at the heavenly sight of her pussy, her folds already glistening with her arousal and he felt even harder knowing his baby girl felt embarrassed. She was especially shy when he coaxed her into having her sit on his face. But why wouldn’t he want her thighs crushing his face, her pussy in direct contact with his mouth when she was so delicious.
The first swipe of his tongue on her folds had her moaning out loud into the silent motel room. When his tongue flicked against her clit in a torturous pace, she began panting feeling so vulnerable and overwhelmed in the position all at once. His hands were on both sides of her hips keeping her in place yet they were kneading the soft skin there, feeling the slight stretch marks that decorated her hips and ass. He was relishing the taste of her nectar on his tongue, salty and sweet all at once and he felt like he couldn’t get enough.
“Fuck baby girl you always taste so damn good.” He groaned as he gripped the sides of thighs tighter, the skin dimpling with the pressure. She looked down at him surprised, as she made sure to keep her balance by having her hands on the headboard and feet perked on the bed.
His hands grasped her hips tighter, fingernails digging into her skin. Her breathing was erratic, chest heaving harshly as his lips assaulted her folds. Sucking on the little nub that was making her toes curl. Overwhelmed with stimulation, it all came together building that familiar bubbling feeling inside her that had her gasping his name out. It spilled from her lips over and over again as he licked and sucked on her pussy lips at a pace that couldn’t have been more perfect.
With a cry, she felt her legs quaking as she reached her peak. It coiled inside her until it came loose. Her orgasm spilled onto the inside of her thighs and Lee’s tongue cleaned it all off her. The rumbling of his chest as his baritone voice worded out compliments to her. How she tasted so sweet and he couldn’t wait to fuck her.
“I need you to fuck me Lee. Right now.” Y/N commanded as soon as the filthy compliments slipped from his lips. She felt desperate to feel him inside her, to take her one last time. She just didn’t know what was waiting for her, of what he already knew. That he was simply entertaining her little game.
Her eyes were glossed over, still reeling from the overwhelming feeling her orgasm had washed over her. He looked surprised at her foul words. She was usually reserved, letting him do whatever he wanted with her and however he wanted to. Yet her taking control over the situation had him aching for her even more. The excitement bubbling and boiling over.
He patted her thighs again as her shaky legs managed to move over and sit on the bed. Confusion took over as she saw Lee scoot down and off the bed. He wiped her confusion right off as he grabbed her feet and pulled her towards the edge of the bed. He was more than ready to take her. His dick rock hard.
“Get on all fours.”
Her breathing still uneven from the remnants of her first orgasm, she pushed herself to her knees and hands both allocated on the bed. She felt his calloused hands on her ass and knew his eyes were devouring the view she was giving him. With her body perked up on the bed, ass in clear eye view to him she felt shy all over again. His hand came down onto her flesh harshly leaving behind a searing buzz. And he did it again and again until shrieks left her mouth.
His full lips kissed on the marks of her skin, leaving behind a trail of wetness before he stood upright again. Gripping his hardened cock in his hand and brought it to her core. Rubbing it on her silky folds, using the wetness from her opening to coat his cock to better prepare her for the stretch that always left her mewling.
Y/N gripped the sheets with her hands bracing herself for him and when he finally entered, her mouth fell open. He moved until she was fully filled with his cock, until his happy trail met the skin of her ass. And he began moving, not giving her time to adjust because he needed to feel more of her. To revel in the feeling of being inside her tight walls, to see her turn into nothing but moans and cries.
Her back arched as the pace of his strokes picked up. He felt deeper and deeper with each push. It felt like he was pulling her so far from herself as her eyes rolled back with the sensation he was giving her. This was her favorite position but they had never quite done it like this. Not with him standing on the floor and her body perked up on the bed. It gave him more leeway, more freedom to move at a faster pace. To roll his hips, to slam them down until her skin was red.
“You like it when I fuck you like this baby?” Lee asked as he came down and she felt the hotness of his breath on her back. A meek yes fell from her lips. His lips kissed the skin below her delicate bra, the burgundy color of it complimenting her skin tone so prettily. Lee nipped and bit on the skin leaving behind red marks in his wake. She shuddered with the fanning of his breath, hot and wet on the skin of her back and her sheets were gripped tighter on her fisted hands.
His hands suddenly left another red mark on the skin of her ass with a harsh spank before they came up and took hold of her unruly hair. He grasped the hair tightly as he stood upright again and began a relentless rhythm with his hips. She couldn’t help but be loud, crying his name out loud over and over again because he was the only man who could ever make her feel such pain and pleasure all at once. It was overwhelming how the myriad of emotions and feelings conjoined together during their acts of passion and she could still feel the searing fire bubbling inside here yet again. She was closer every time his hips snapped against her core, pushing that one familiar toe-curling feeling from her.
“I’m gonna cum Lee oh my god.” She cried out, hair still in his grasp. It was uncomfortable but she could take it. The roughness of his movements, of his cock filling her up and her hair tangled in his hands. She felt it all as her toes curled in the shockwaves of her orgasm. It ripped through her in countless curses and jolts that Lee’s hand let go of her hair and her head fell onto the mattress. She felt weak, knees wobbly with the intensity of her shattering finite.
“I want you to look at me when you cum, Lee. Please.” She whispered, voice so low she thought he wouldn’t hear the softness of it. He did.
Lee held onto the flesh of her hips and flipped her onto her back. His body joined hers on the bed again, him on top of her. Lee noticed a thin sheet of sweat had built up on her chest and forehead, breathing still erratic from the aftermath of her orgasm. She looked so beautiful to him, completely fucked and disheveled because of him. Her request had his insides churning knowing why she was being so demanding this time around, why her movements from the beginning of the night had been quick to feel him, so desperate for him as if starved of his touch.
His cock slipped inside her folds yet again and they both groaned in unison. Their eyes met for what seemed only the second time that night and the intensity of what they both felt turned into thick tension. He wanted to fuck it all away, rid himself of the reality of their situation. Of the grimy situation  they were both in, of what he had done. His lies had gotten him so far yet it all seemed to be coming to an end.
He continued his ardent stare, hips rolling against her core as if rushed. Wanting to sear their acts between her legs forever, never letting her forget that he was the only man who could make her feel this way. That despite what he had done, nobody would ever compare to him.
“I’m gonna cum baby, you’re gonna take it all?”
She nodded fervently, knowing that if she spoke her voice would break.  Tears began wetting her cheeks, sliding down as the noises in the small motel room escalated. His hips were stuttering against hers already, almost reaching his peak, but still keeping the same harsh momentum that had her mouth falling ajar.
Chasing his own end. The wetness of her arousal was driving him insane, making the movements of his dick inside her much easier. He felt the warmth of her engulfing him, wrapping him up in such a delicious way he knew he’d finish inside her in no time. She was crying out, loud and soft all at once and he felt so pleased with himself as he stared at how angelic she looked. The youth so evident on her skin, the long lashes curled and her glazed eyes still connecting with his. The look on her face had his hips bucking against hers harder, wanting her even more even though he already had her and was already fucking her the way he wanted to.
He brought his face down to meet her lips, to kiss her with a need so strong it felt as if it was crushing him. He bit her bottom lip harshly before letting it go and sucking on her tongue. His movements left her breathless and gasping. His dick was moving inside her and she could feel the veins and rough ridges of it. It was deliciously painful the way their skin slapped against each other, harsh and sensual. It felt like he had reached places inside her she never thought to be possible, the sensation of being filled to the hilt. A fullness that had her aching.
With a string of curses and grunts, Lee’s hips bucked one last time and spilled his seed inside her. He bent down to give her a sweaty kiss before he removed himself from her and collapsed back on the bed.
“You’re amazing baby doll. We’re still on for next friday right?” He breathed out, head turning to look at her. Her eyes were turned to the ceiling and she forged a smile.
“Yes.”
Lee rolled his eyes at the way the lie rolled off her mouth so effortlessly. As if she had practiced it countless times.
“You think I wouldn’t know baby girl?”
“Know what?” Her head snapped to look at him. And as if suddenly feeling shy, her hands gripped the sheets beginning to cover the delicacy that was her body.
“Don’t play stupid with me. You think Jane wouldn’t run her big mouth to me about seeing you at the market? Or how your daddy is all sad about you wanting to leave back to college three weeks before your classes even start?”
“I-I’m sorry.” It hurt to apologize. The words were shaky and unbelievable as she had nothing to be sorry for. He had deceived her just as much as they had deceived both their families. Had lied to her about his separation from his wife in order to get her on her knees. Yet the wild look on his face and the rough tone his voice had taken left her feeling shaky. As if she was treading on broken glass.
“Don’t give me that shit.”
“You lied to me, Lee. You think it was easy for me to see Jane with a big belly? H-How shocked I was?”
“Would you even have looked my way if I told you her and I were still together?” He asked. The incredulous question came so easily, as if it wasn’t the craziest thing he had ever said.
“Of course not.” She muttered. Her voice broke as tears spilled from her eyes. It was the pressure of knowing the truth that made her body shudder. The man laying next to her wasn’t at all who she thought he was. She knew it yet still met him one last time. She wanted to show him what he would be missing when she was gone, of what he had lost out on. Yet the man had been a step ahead of her.
She scooted away to the edge of the bed ready to hurriedly put her clothes back on and leave him for good. The sudden movement had Lee in a panic and his hand yanked her back to the center of her bed. Her shriek was cut to a halt when his large hand wrapped around her throat constricting her breathing. Her glossy orbs stared into his in utter disbelief. She didn’t believe it was real. None of what was happening was registering for her because it couldn’t have been real. Lee couldn’t do that to her.
The disbelief slipped away slowly. Chipping away as the seconds passed. She shut her eyes tightly hoping that when she opened them he wouldn’t be there. Or that at least his hands wouldn’t be on her throat.
When she opened them again he was still there. Eyes wide with fury, rough hands still on her throat. The pressure was less than before as if he was realizing what he was doing.
“Fuck.” Lee griped. “You ain’t leaving yet darlin’. You got that?”
She nodded slowly, eyes still leaking with hot tears. All she wanted was to breathe. To get some air into her lungs. His hands stayed.
“You’ll come back here next friday or any other day I ask.”
It tightened.
“You got that?”
She nodded again, this time in a hurried manner. He let go. She coughed as the air began to fill her lungs once again.
She should’ve known not to mess with the sheriff.

summary: taking on the case of the disappearance of your father, Sherlock Holmes finds himself drawn to you, the daughter who holds more mystery than any riddle he’s ever encountered
~
“Y/N, keep your chin up, dear.”
Swallowing down your ire, you listened to your mother and did just that, raising your chin and pushing your shoulders back. A soft breeze ruffled the skirt of your dress, and goosebumps erupted over your arms underneath your sleeves. You could hear your mother fussing over your sister, lightly scolding her for the dress she’d picked out, something about the color.
“We want to look our best for when Mr. Holmes arrives,” you heard her say.
You heard your sister let out a soft huff, having no desire to hide her annoyance. Those classes your mother made her attend weren’t doing much for her character, but she was young. No longer a child but not yet a woman, instead stuck in that place in between. You did not yearn for those days…
You did once, longed for the innocence and ignorance that clouded your childhood, but adulthood had long taught you that ignorance was not bliss. Ignorance kept people blind from the truth, and some truths needed to be known.
Your mother’s change in tone alerted you to the carriage that was being pulled into the yard. A soft sigh escaped you as it drew near, a far cry from your sister’s intrigue, eyes wide and neck strained in order to get a better look. The three of you were poised on the steps in front of the grand house, having been patiently waiting for Mr. Holmes’ arrival.
Sherlock Holmes.
The detective whose name was known far and wide was arriving to help none other than your family. Out of all of the possibilities that had taken up residence in your mind, the infamous Sherlock Holmes taking on the case of your missing father had never been one of them. You supposed that you shouldn’t be shocked that the mysterious disappearance of the wealthy patriarch had caught the man’s attention. It was all anyone could seem to talk about these days…
All three of you watched the mountain of a man step out of the carriage, but for three very different reasons. Your sister was curious, intrigued by this new person, a new puzzle to figure out, a thing to study and observe. Outside of father, your sister had never interacted with many males in her life. Your mother looked at the dark-haired gentleman like a beacon of hope, a savior to bring her peace in some form or another. You, on the other hand, you watched him like a snake would a hawk.
If you didn’t keep an eye on him, he could very well eat you alive.
“Mr. Holmes,” your mother rushed to greet him, and the contents of your stomach tossed at the relief you heard in her voice.
In her mind, he had already solved the case and returned your missing father to you. She was comforted by the detective’s mere presence, and you grimaced.
“It is an honor to have you here. Truly. You do not know what it means to me and my girls,” she told him, voice already shaking.
“It is no great deal to me, madam. I wish to find your husband just as much as you do, to bring peace and relief back to your household.”
You shifted on your feet, hands clasped in front of you as the low timber of his voice reached your ears. It was smooth, soft even, but no means wavering. His steady diction exhibited his refined background that you’d heard so much about, and you warily eyed him.
He towered over your mother, making the strong woman look so incredibly fragile to the point that it scared you. You suddenly had the urge to push him away. As your mother conversed with him, your sister tiptoed to your side, admiration in her voice as her lips brushed your ear.
“He is quite handsome, isn’t he?” she said, surprising you.
She had never expressed any interest in boys, but Mr. Holmes clearly struck something in her that even she could not ignore. As you ran your eyes over him, you found you were unable to deny the truth in her words. His features were indeed striking, the kind of face that artists begged to paint. His dark brows and hair complimented his eyes, strong jawline and pink lips moving fluidly as he talked to your mother. His curls gave a boyish quality to his otherwise manly countenance, and you had the brief thought of touching them, wondering if they were as soft as they looked.
“…and these are my daughters,” your mother’s voice reached you as she neared, the imposing man a step behind her.
Both you and your sister greeted him properly, your sister’s name falling from his lips as your mother honed in on her. You sent him a small smile when your mother gestured to you, and he returned it, eyes alight as she introduced you.
“This is my oldest, Y/N. My pride and joy,” she praised.
Your sister squirmed beside you, and you frowned.
“Mother,” you quietly admonished to which she quickly brushed off.
“Oh, hush. She will bring greatness to our name just as her father did. Rest assured, she will be a great help to you,” she told him.
He eyed you with something unknown as your mother continued to speak praises to your name, and you looked away, gaze landing on your sister instead as you took her hand. She had begun to shrink in on herself, and you swallowed down a sigh.
Your mother wanted her youngest to be something she was not. She wanted her to be you, but the young girl couldn’t ever be anyone but herself. And you didn’t understand why mother would want her to. It was a great source of insecurity and frustration for your sister, to constantly be compared to yourself, and it hurt you to see the adventurous girl make herself small.
“Do come in,” your mother ushered him inside.
Mr. Holmes followed her, and you and your sister him, your eyes never straying from his broad form. You’d heard of his skills, his observation, but of course you had never seen the man in action before. At first glance, it seemed like an innocent perusal, as if he were simply taking in the new scenery, admiring it. However, it didn’t take long to realize that he was taking note of every detail. Every plant, every painting that was askew, even the liquor cabinet, eyeing which liquors were consumed the most.
Your mother was prattling on about nonsense, and Mr. Holmes had already begun to work.
“Tell me, when did Mr. Y/L/N disappear?” he suddenly murmured, fingering a plant on a nearby table.
“Tomorrow will make it…what is it? Three weeks without him?”
She looked to the two of you, and you both nodded.
“Three weeks,” she confirmed. “We only noticed his absence the next morning, so it had to have been that Wednesday night. At the very latest, the early hours of Thursday morning.”
“…and you are sure it was a Wednesday?”
She thought for a moment before nodding.
“I’m sure of it. It rained all day the next day, finally making the ground soft enough for my dear Y/N to start her garden. She adores plants,” she told him with a smile.
Your heart sank to your stomach, and you resisted the urge to roll your eyes as you realized what was happening here. Leave it to your mother to prioritize finding you a husband while investigating your father’s disappearance. Mr. Holmes’ gaze met yours, and you held it until he was forced to look away. At least she thought highly enough of you to think you worthy of someone like Sherlock Holmes.
All three of you watched him pace around the living room, a soft hum leaving his lips here and there. Again, he returned to that plant that he’d been fingering, eyeing the carpet beneath the table before finally looking to your mother.
“I’d like to take a look at the rest of the house.”
With a wide smile, she was all too happy to oblige. Your sister bid him goodbye with a soft smile, and you did the same when his eyes met yours, face falling as soon as he turned his back to you.

“Do you think he will find father?”
You glanced up from your breakfast to gaze at your sister, her anxious eyes already on you. You swallowed, wiping your mouth before offering her a shrug.
“Who is to say…”
“He must! He’s the best detective there is. He’s only been here for two days, and already he seems far more diligent than the others,” she quietly argued.
“I cannot argue with that,” you admitted.
You were unnerved by the unfamiliar man. He was indeed great at his job, and his acceptance of your mother’s offer to stay in one of the many rooms here only gave him more time and free reign to gather clues as to where your father could have gone. He spent the first day with your mother, having her recount everything she could remember, anything that could help. The next day was your sister, so you knew it was only a matter of time before he demanded your time and attention as well.
You didn’t like the thought of being alone with the man. His piercing eyes were scarily perceptive, taking note of much more than you could possibly give him credit for. They were ever watchful, and that unnerved you to no end. True to your suspicions, he entered the dining room just as you were finishing up, heavy gaze finding yours, and you bid your sister adieu.
“Your mother said that you went to bed early Wednesday night,” was the first thing he said as soon as you sat down across from him in the dimly lit living room.
The dark curtains allowed for little sunlight to peak through, and shadows casted over his aristocratic features.
“I did.”
He hummed, a faint smile on his lips, so small you could miss it if you blinked.
“Tired?”
“Extremely. I don’t sleep very well,” you honestly told him. “…and so I figured the earlier I rested my head, the earlier my eyes would follow suit.”
He nodded at that, eyes trailing over the room.
“Does gardening help with that?”
“…sometimes,” you answered.
“Does your mother or sister help out with that? Or is it just you?”
“It’s just me.”
His eyes were on yours again, gaze inquiring, yet guarded. He was probing for something, and you knew it was his job, but it filled your mouth with distaste.
“…so you are the only one who attends to the plants in the house?”
“Yes.”
He stared at you for a moment before releasing a small sigh. He stood, and you did as well, eyeing him as he paused at your movement before slowly beginning to pace about the room.
“I am here to help…Ms. Y/L/N.”
His voice reeked of well-hidden frustration, and you sighed as well.
“I know that,” you responded, briefly closing your eyes. “…and I am cooperating, am I not?”
He paused, and his eyes met yours again, flickering between your irises before humming.
“Indeed, you are, but I want you to cooperate because you want to. Not because you feel like you have to. I am merely here to help, to find your father’s whereabouts, so I want you to feel comfortable around me.”
“I am,” you lied.
He knew that you were lying, if the look in his eyes was anything to go by, but he let it go.
“Your mother and sister said that you all searched the grounds for him all day. Enlisting the help of the police for the next week and a half before the search was eventually called off,” he suddenly said, moving on.
“Yes. No stone was left unturned. My mother felt it was best to leave this in the hands of detectives, but the lot of them were…incompetent at best.”
Disdain and disgust coated your words, and Mr. Holmes eyed you.
“…and at worst?”
You crossed your arms over your chest, pursing your lips.
“Greedy perverts trying to get their hands on our money,” you admitted.
You threw him a humorless smile, and the corner of his lips quirked up just the slightest as he turned away.
“None of them sparked your fancy?”
He was teasing, and you fought back a smile.
“No. I don’t daydream about marriage, Mr. Holmes. Of course, it is what my mother wishes for me, and I know that I am to settle down eventually for it is the way of the world, but I am certainly in no rush. Marriage does not appeal to me in the slightest.”
It was the one wedge in you and your mother’s relationship: your lack of prospects. However, no amount of snide comments from your mother about your age would sway you.
“Surely, your parents’ marriage must have softened your heart just a little…”
When you looked up, his eyes were once again on you, something in them that you could not name, and you held his gaze, a fond smile on your lips.
“Their marriage was like any other, I suppose. Of course, they had the occasional spat over the most trivial of things like all married couples do, but they were happy,” you replied.
He simply nodded, gaze lingering before pulling his eyes away, and if you didn’t know any better, you’d say reluctantly so. His casual interrogation that wasn’t really an interrogation didn’t last for much longer, and somehow, you felt more nervous leaving the room than you did when you entered it.
Your mother and sister did not seem to share your sentiments. Indeed, they were ever comfortable around the dark-haired man. Part of you wondered if the holes in their heart that were left by father were temporarily being filled by Mr. Holmes. Having a man around the house again surely brought some mild comfort to them, even if they knew it was only momentary.
They happily invited him to eat with you all, participate in small talk, even showing him your garden. You felt that it was all unnecessary, distracting even. Mr. Holmes had a job to do, and the sooner he left, the better. You didn’t know how much more of his analyzing gaze you could take.
It didn’t matter that he would be engaged in conversation with your sister or mother for his eyes always found their way back to you somehow. He wasn’t a man of many words, but it seemed that you were an exception. Your mother did not miss how he always attempted to draw you into conversation, get you to talk more. It was becoming rather tiresome to explain to her that the man was simply doing his job.
Hell, it was becoming tiresome to remind yourself of that. It was his job to pry, to observe, to snoop even. The day that you’d found him in your chambers, standing by your bed, gazing around with his hands folded behind his back, you’d almost suffered a heart attack. It took the will of God to remind you that he was a detective, and that he was simply doing his job.
Sherlock Holmes was doing what he was hired to do.
And that was the problem.
You could hear footsteps approaching from below, and you paused on your reading, sticking a finger in the page before closing your book. The branch that you’d chosen to lounge on was higher than the usual, and you craned your head ever so slightly to look down below.
Mr. Holmes decided to make himself at home beneath the tree, leaning back against the trunk. His suit jacket was gone, one knee bent, and you watched as the autumn breeze ruffled his soft curls. You blinked, wondering to yourself how he managed to look both intimidating and vulnerable at the same time?
“No one in town seems to have any legitimate idea of where your father could have gone.”
His voice traveled to you from below, and you chuckled before you could stop yourself.
“No, I would imagine not. Despite what they may think, none of the townspeople know my father, at all,” you told him.
You could feel his eyes on you as you descended, and you brushed your dress off when you finally made it to the ground. He looked up at you with such intrigue, brows furrowed in a mixture of confusion and concentration. You cleared your throat.
“You’re staring, Mr. Holmes.”
He slowly blinked at you.
“Indeed, I am,” he said, rising to join you. “I do apologize. I was having a rather strong sense of déjà vu.”
Now it was your turn to frown in confusion, and he continued.
“My sister…she loves to hide away in a tree with a good book just as well as you.”
He ran his eyes over your face, drinking you in, and the hair on your arms stood on end.
“…you remind me of her in some ways,” he murmured.
“Well, she sounds like a remarkable young woman then,” you complimented.
“She is getting there,” he replied, a hint of pride in his voice. “Although, just like her, so much of you remains a mystery to me.”
You squirmed under his scrutinizing gaze, looking away from his narrowed eyes to walk towards your garden. You could both feel and hear him behind you, and you felt your face grow hot as the weight of his stare pressed down on you.
“You have a rather impressive garden,” he praised.
You looked to him, a small smile slow to spread along your lips.
“Thank you.”
“Crown Imperials,” he noted, and your smile fell. “They seem to be a favorite of yours.”
“They are. The bright blooms are so pretty to me,” you truthfully replied.
“You spend a great deal of time out here,” he hummed.
You bent down to finger a petal, a genuine smile on your face now.
“I find comfort out here. Looking at this garden, basking in its presence, puts me at ease. Flowers that bloom in the colder months, when all the leaves have fallen and the animals have scurried away to hibernate, symbolize rebirth to me. New beginnings,” you whispered, eyes unfocused as you let your hand fall.
You slowly stood, stomach flipping when your eyes met his as you turned around. His hands were at his side, broad form much closer than you remembered, and your eyes zeroed in on the way he flexed his fingers. Mr. Holmes opened his mouth to speak, but you interrupted him.
“I should get back inside to assist my sister with her studies,” you told him.
You bid him goodbye and scurried past him before he could utter a word.
Tumblr media
The next night, you made your way downstairs in the darkness as you did every night. Your mother and sister were fast asleep in their rooms, Mr. Holmes having long gone to bed as well. With a soft sigh, you approached the front door, locking it with a resounding click. You pressed your hand against the wood, heart aching for your mother, pitying her even, before you turned around.
“Why do you lock the door every night?”
A scream threatened to escape your throat, but you swallowed it down as light flooded the foyer. You pressed your hand to your chest, glaring at the detective as he stood across from you…dressed for bed. You blinked at the sight of his bare chest, and you quickly looked away, face heating up.
“Mr. Holmes,” you slowly began, forcing your heart to slow. “…you frightened me.”
“You did not answer my question,” was his only response, and you frowned at him.
“I beg your pardon?”
He took a step towards you, and you resisted the urge to take a step back.
“Mrs. Y/L/N leaves it unlocked every night in hopes that her husband, your father, will return. She told me so, and you come down every night to lock it. Why?”
You heaved a sigh, guilt flooding you.
“…because it is sad. I hope for his return just as much as my mother, but I will not be so foolish as to leave me and my family completely vulnerable while we sleep.”
He didn’t respond, so you continued.
“My father, her husband, is God knows where, and I understand that she is worried, but she is beginning to lose all sense of reason ever since his disappearance. Someone must keep this house together,” you complained.
He eventually nodded at that, seeming to accept this, and your eyes fell to the floor, uncomfortable with his close proximity and inappropriate state of dress. Your eyes caught the end of your nightgown, and you realized with a start that you both were inappropriately dressed for this conversation. Especially one so late at night. You shuddered to imagine what your mother would think if she came downstairs this very moment.
You looked up, startled, when he stepped closer, and your throat felt incredibly dry all of a sudden. Your sister’s words that first day came back to you, and you thought to yourself that Sherlock Holmes was much more handsome than she knew. You took a step back, back grazing the door as you eyed his face, him doing the same.
“You brew medicine for your mother, making salves as well,” he suddenly murmured, and you frowned. “I saw them in her room. The herbs used to make them I found in the kitchen.”
Your frown deepened, unsure of how this was relevant to anything.
“I did not know she was unwell,” he probed.
You cleared your throat, wrapping your arms around yourself.
“She isn’t…unwell, I mean. At least…not really. As she said, it rained that Thursday after my father’s disappearance. She was worried and distraught and did not take note of the slippery steps. She fell, and the salve and medicine are simply to help with the bruising and the pain,” you explained.
He only hummed at that, and you made to move around him, a bidding of goodnight on your lips, but he blocked your path. You looked to him with wide eyes, heart beginning to race again, although you didn’t know why.
Even in the thin and exposing nightgown, you felt your body heat up under his heavy gaze, his eyes running over your frame in a way that you were familiar with. However, the disgust that normally coursed through you at such an action was nowhere to be found. Instead, something unfamiliar swirled in the pit of your stomach, and this scared you.
It must have been written on your face, that fear, or at the very least visible in your eyes for Mr. Holmes took a step back. You noticed that his jaw was clenched, face pinched in a pensive manner that was becoming all too familiar to you. He suddenly wished you a goodnight, and you did the same, feeling his heated gaze searing into your back as you ascended the stairs.
Sleep did not come easy to you. In fact, it smoothly evaded you for days, and the already dark circles beneath your eyes became even more prominent. Your mother and sister were used to your inconsistent sleep schedule, accustomed to the haggard appearance your face would take sometimes. If Mr. Holmes noticed, however, he did not mention it. Of course, that was a silly thing to think. He noticed everything, and it was no surprise to you to find him in the lounge room late one night.
The flames licked at the inside of the fireplace, casting a low light over the room. His daunting form was seated in your father’s chair, and neither one of you greeted each other as you made your way into the room. Sometimes on particularly trying nights, you liked to curl up with a book by the fireplace in hopes that it would lull you to sleep. You had a sneaking suspicion that Mr. Holmes knew this, hence his presence, and you sighed.
You didn’t wish to be alone with him, and you had every intention of making your way back to bed, but some part of you scolded yourself for your treatment of the detective. He was only doing his job, after all. You knew that your wariness of him was no fault of his, and you guiltily made your way to your father’s bar.
“Would you like a drink before I head back to bed?” you asked him, already reaching for a glass.
He didn’t respond, and you glanced up to find his gaze still on the roaring flames, a hand resting against his mouth, eyes thoughtful. You reached for one of your father’s more expensive selections just as Mr. Holmes spoke.
“He’s beneath the garden…isn’t he?”
You did not falter in your movements, but you could not stop the way your stomach churned, threatening to expel everything you’d eaten that day. You set the bottle down, and your hand shook around it. Your lips parted, but no words came out, and you snapped them shut, swallowing.
“I beg your pardon?” you eventually responded.
“I took on this case to pass some time really. It seemed simple enough to me. Your father had been murdered…that much was clear,” he quietly said.
Your throat felt incredibly thick all of a sudden, and your heart clenched in your chest, painfully so.
“However, it was only a matter of who.”
You felt tears spring forth, but they held off, collecting in your eyes as he continued.
“Your mother seemed the obvious choice, too obvious even, and I was proven right when I met her. She loved your father dearly, and I’d be a fool to think she could ever bring harm to him. I considered your sister next. Naturally. She is impulsive and wild, but that is precisely why she was ruled out. She’s not, how would my brother say it, refined?”
You briefly closed your eyes in defeat.
“No. Not like you…”
He stood to face you, and the tears finally spilled over when his troubled gaze met yours in the low lighting.
“She has not mastered the skills to truly be a lady. She has not learned to hold her tongue or hide her thoughts or school her features so that they are the picture-perfect vision of decorum and poise…to show the world only what you wish for them to see.”
His smooth voice did not bring you comfort, and you fought to hold his gaze as he neared you.
“…but you have. You’ve mastered it quite well, in fact.”
You opened your mouth, but no words came out, only a shaky exhale.
“Many people in town mentioned your mother’s clumsiness. Her constant aches and faint bruises…bruises you’ve been tending to for a while…”
He stopped before you, eyes somber.
“He was hitting her. Probably much more than that. When did you first discover it?”
Again, words failed you, and he shook his head, a dark curl brushing his forehead.
“That tidbit is not relevant, so don’t bother to answer that.”
“Mr. Holmes-.”
“You referred to their marriage in the past tense. You lock the door at night because you know that he is never coming home.”
You wrapped your arms around yourself.
“Crown imperial is an interesting flower to plant, most people avoiding them because of the putrid smell. Of course, a flower like that would cover up the smell of decaying flesh rather nicely,” he mused. “I know it happened in the living room.”
Your eyes widened at that.
“That plant on the table…there’s hardly any soil in it at all, the only one in the entire house like it. That and the pinches of soil on the carpet beneath it tells me that it had been knocked over. It matches the few grains found in your sheets,” he explained.
You blinked at him.
“You were evidently in a hurry to clean it up and get back into bed. After all, it must have been rather early in the morning at that point… This was after you buried him correct?”
Reluctantly, you gave a shaky nod, confirming his accusations for the first time. He pressed his hand to his mouth again, the other on his hip as he paced, brows furrowed.
“The only thing I cannot seem to figure out is how you did it…”
“…belladonna,” you softly said, speaking for the first time that evening.
He looked at you, and you held his gaze, tears at bay for the moment.
“My father never misses a nightcap,” you told him with a shrug. “Large doses of belladonna can be-.”
“Fatal,” he finished for you, and you looked away.
“So…what happens now? Surely you mean to turn me in…hand me over to the police to answer for my crime,” you tearfully said.
He didn’t say anything, and the only noise in the room for a while was that of the crackling fireplace. Eventually, you heard him approach you again, and you flinched when his hands landed on your arms. Reluctantly, you looked at him, and his eyes flitted over your face, unsure of what to settle on. His thumbs brushed along your bare skin, and your throat bobbed.
“I should,” he whispered to himself, brows drawn together as he studied you. “I should turn you in immediately.”
He stepped closer, and you could feel his body heat, practically feel his heartbeat beneath his chest. His hands tightened on you for a brief moment before loosening his hold.
“…but I can’t,” he confessed through clenched teeth.
Confusion filled you, and your lips parted in shock. His eyes seemed to be drawn to the action, gaze lingering on your mouth for far too long.
“I…I don’t understand…”
He drank you in, gaze vexed, like you confounded him. One of his hands slid to your neck, fingers brushing your jaw, and you sharply inhaled, lips trembling.
“Even now…I still cannot figure you out,” he murmured to himself.
Your confusion grew, frown deepening, and you watched as he suddenly blinked, taking a step back. It took longer for him to finally let you go, and his face appeared strained, movements stiff as if it took everything in him to do so. He took a few more steps back, getting as far away from you as possible before he spoke again.
“There is no doubt in my mind that you very well could kill me in my sleep, but I trust that you won’t.”
Your eyes widened when he made to leave, and you called to him. He paused in the doorway, fists clenched at his side as he refused to look at you.
“W-what…what will you tell them? What will you tell my mother?”
Your voice was but a whisper, disbelief coursing through you at this turn of events. His shoulders heaved as he sighed.
“…nothing for you to worry about…Y/N.”
Your heart skipped a beat at the sound of your name falling from his lips, and before you could process what he had said, he was gone.
Tumblr media
“He…he’s simply run off?”
You leaned your head against the wall as you listened in on the conversation taking place in the dining room, and your heart constricted as her soft sobs reached your ears. You couldn’t imagine the feeling of fretting over someone for weeks, fearful for their wellbeing only to discover that they weren’t hurt at all. The opposite, in fact.
Only, it was a lie.
As you listened to Mr. Holmes spin the believable tale of your father running off with some mistress, you thought to yourself that the truth would have been better. Your mother could move past the truth. She could heal from the truth. How was she meant to heal from this?
You quietly pushed yourself off of the wall and made your way past the doorway. As you passed, your eyes caught those of Mr. Holmes, his heavy stare boring into you, and guilt tore through you as you caught sight of your mother’s distraught form.
No, the truth would have been far better. Your mother, the loving and strong woman that she was, deserved to know the truth, and you intended to give it to her.
Hours later when darkness fell, you found yourself outside, yanking out flower and vegetable roots. Thunder rumbled far off in the distance, and a light sprinkle of rain dampened your hair and dress. Tears soaked your cheeks as you dug through the dirt, sobs wracking your frame. You had buried him deep, and now that had come back to haunt you.
Or so you thought.
A startled gasp left your lips as firm hands yanked you to your feet from behind, and your eyes were wide as you were spun around to face none other than Sherlock Holmes. Lightning flashed behind him, illuminating his angry features, and you shrank in on yourself underneath his harsh gaze.
“What the devil do you think you are doing?”
More tears fell, and you shook your head.
“I cannot do this! I cannot go along with this lie any longer,” you told him.
His eyes softened, but his jaw ticked at your words.
“Y/N,” he sighed your name.
“Thank you for what you’ve done, Mr. Holmes, but I cannot bear to see my mother hurting like this over a lie. The truth…the truth will be much easier for her heart to bear,” you gasped.
You fought to get out of his hold, but he proved to be as strong as he looked.
“I cannot allow you to do this-.”
“Why not? You’ve solved the case! The great Sherlock Holmes figured it out, and soon my name and face will be plastered on papers everywhere as everyone learns what I did,” you cried.
“You were protecting your mother,” he argued.
“In the eyes of the law, I am still a murderess. I have reason to believe that you would agree with them,” you scoffed. “…why are you protecting me?”
He didn’t respond, and you huffed, jerking in his hold again, but he wouldn’t budge. The rain was coming down a little harder now, and your vision was blurry from both the weather and your tears. Your knees started to buckle as your movements slowed, and you would have collapsed to the ground if Mr. Holmes hadn’t been holding you.
He leaned you against your tree, and your fingers twisted into his rain-soaked shirt as tears skipped down your cheeks. He still hadn’t answered your question, and your eyes reluctantly met his. He looked at you like he had been looking at you for weeks, and that unfamiliar feeling returned…as well as the fear.
“You are not nearly as fragile as I initially thought you to be,” he quietly said, puzzling you.
He continued before you could voice your confusion.
“…but you are not nearly as tough as I thought you to be either.”
He reached up to brush his thumb over your lip, and you jerked, eyes widening at the action. Your heart felt like it was threatening to leap from your chest, and a thought suddenly occurred to you that had never occurred to you before.
“You have plagued my thoughts for weeks,” he confessed, making you freeze. “…entering my dreams the very moment I first had my suspicions.”
“Mr. Holmes…”
“Who would think that someone like you would be capable of such a thing,” he mused, genuine bewilderment on his features. “…and yet…I still want you so.”
Dread began to fester in your gut, and you pushed against his chest, but it proved to be useless. He pressed his forehead against yours, eyes boring into your own.
“Sh-Sherlock,” you said, hoping that hearing his name from your lips would snap him out of it, knock some clarity into him, but it seemed to have the opposite effect.
His fingers tightened, enough to make you wince, and his eyes fluttered close, a long exhale leaving him.
“Y/N,” he whispered your name like it was a prayer. “How do you manage…to be half heaven…and half hell?”
The words had barely left his lips before he fiercely pressed them against yours, startling you. A horrified gasp left you, and he clutched you to him, breathing you in as he moved his mouth over yours. He only seemed to take note of his actions when your palm met his cheek.
You stumbled back, hands grasping along your tree as he took a step back. His lips were swollen, hair damp and eyes troubled as he blinked at you. You pressed one hand into the tree behind you, the other to your chest as you stared at him in fear. Your chest was heaving just as much as his.
“Forgive me,” he whispered.
He swallowed, at least having the gall to look ashamed. You stared at one another for a painfully long time, ruminating on what he’d done, the line that he’d crossed. You didn’t move, too afraid to, and Sherlock’s jaw clenched as he eyed you.
His hands curled into fists at his side, features twisted with a myriad of emotions that you couldn’t place. There seemed to be a struggle going on, and your lip trembled as he dragged his eyes over your wet frame, Adam’s apple bobbing as he swallowed. His dark hair was damp from the rain, the strands curling around his ears and kissing his forehead.
His lips parted ever so slightly, and he straightened as his eyes finally met yours again. You watched the way his nostrils flared, a carnal hunger in his eyes that terrified you to the bone.
“Forgive me,” he whispered again, apologizing for something that he hadn’t done, but was instead about to do.
You turned and ran past your tree, but he was already upon you before you could even get in three steps. His muscular arms wrapped around you, holding you to him as he buried his nose in the crook of your neck, lips trailing kisses over your damp skin.
You reached back to tangle your fingers in his hair, attempting to pull his head away from you, but he only groaned against your skin. Fresh tears escaped, and you shuddered as he pressed himself against you, hard and threatening against your dress.
Your back met your tree, and Sherlock was quick in pressing his lips to yours. Your fingers dug into his shoulders, noises of protest escaping your lips as you pushed against him. You were sobbing when he finally broke the kiss, and you shook your head, pleas falling from your lips.
“Don’t do this,” you begged, knowing you were no match for him and accepting that pleading was your only chance. “Please, don’t- you’ll ruin me.”
Your eyes searched his.
“I’ll never be able to find a husband, to give my mother some form of happiness again after what I did. Let me make her happy,” you shakily whispered.
His brows were furrowed as he gazed at you, and his hands felt incredibly hot on your waist. The light rain had passed now, leaving only a partly cloudy sky and a bright moon to shine down on you. Sherlock closed his eyes as he pressed his forehead to yours, thumbs tracing patterns into your waist.
“…I suppose I will be your husband then.”
He gently shushed you as you cried, softly pressing his lips to yours. He didn’t budge no matter how hard you pushed against him, and you shook as he hooked one of your legs onto his waist. One of his hands pressed into the back of your head while the other tore at the skirt of your dress, all the while he kept you pinned between him and the tree.
It suddenly occurred to you that this was your punishment. This was your comeuppance for what you’d done. It didn’t matter that your father hurt your mother on a regular basis, murder was wrong, and you were being punished for it.
You cried harder when you both felt and heard him releasing himself, and the cool air you felt against your core told you that Sherlock had ripped away every barrier between you two. His lips were gentle on yours, and his entry did not differ from that.
He was slow in pushing inside of you, and you hit against his shoulder, mouth parted in a silent scream as he stretched you. Your nails dug into him when he could go no further, and a long moan lowly left his lips, satisfaction dripping from every note. You blinked back tears as he pressed his hands into the bottom of your thighs, keeping them at his waist as he held you to him.
He slowly moved within you, and one hand held onto him to keep from falling while the other dug into the bark of the tree behind you. He kissed you again, and you turned your head away. He let out a soft growl of frustration before pulling away from the tree.
You yelped and shuddered when your back met the cold damp ground, but your yelp turned into a gasp when he firmly thrust into you. It was a feeling unlike any other you’d ever known, and you squeezed your eyes shut, one hand fisted into his shirt while the other did the same to the grass.
You felt full, but it was an uneasy feeling, like you shouldn’t be full. Every drag of his member pulled a whimper from you, and your face crumbled when he pressed kisses to it, trying to bring some comfort to you while he had his way with you.
“You feel exactly as I dreamed you would,” he whispered.
You sniffed beneath him, core protesting his assault, no matter how gentle it was. You pushed against him again, but he gripped your hand, bringing it to his mouth, and a shiver traveled down your spine as he brushed his lips over the inside of your wrist. He held your gaze as he held your wrist to his lips, and the intensity behind his eyes scared you.
“I meant what I said,” he murmured. “I have every intention of marrying you.”
Somehow, the fact that he was telling the truth scared you more than the thought of him abandoning you. He was going to take you away from your mother and sister, and then who would look out for them? A shaky sob escaped your lips, and he shushed you again, hips curving into yours over and over.
“No one will ever discover what you did. I’ll see to it,” he told you, kissing you again. “…and I’ll make sure your family is well cared for.”
His breath hitched, pace changing, and your toes curled on their own accord.
“Why?” you tearfully gasped as he nipped at your neck. “Why…?”
He paused his movements, holding himself inside of you as he looked down at you. You felt defeated, and the only thing left was confusion, bafflement at why you. He brushed his fingers over your tear-stained cheek, eventually ghosting them over your swollen lips. Sherlock looked at you like you were the most magnificent creature he’d ever seen, and your stomach turned.
“…so much of you is still a mystery to me, and even if I never figure you out…”
He brushed his soft lips against yours.
“…at least you are mine.”

A Triwizard Baby - Final Part - F.W
Fred Weasley x Fem Reader
Masterlist, Requesting Rules, Writing Prompt Masterlist
Final Part of the 'Triwizard Baby' mini-series.
Please Read Parts 1, 2, 3, and 4 if you haven’t already.
A/N: Thank you ever so much for loving and for showing so much support and excitement for this mini-series, it has been one of my favourite things to have ever written and I'm so sad it's coming to an end, but I hope you enjoy it <3
Warnings: Implied Smut, swearing.
Mr and Mrs Weasley were slowly approaching the hospital wing, George following not far behind.
“Yeah, which I’ve only just found out are mine!”
The hospital wing doors opened, Molly and Arthur standing in the doorway, staring at you, their son, and their grandchildren.
"Mum!" Fred smiled "Dad!"
You looked up and swallowed hard at the sight of your child's confused grandparents, they were just as clueless as Freddie with this whole situation, but when Molly's eyes landed on the smaller and sleeping twin, her heart burst into flames.
"Oh, congratulations dear!" she smiled, starting to tear up, you encouraged Fred to hand the baby over for her to hold.
Molly cradled the bundle of joy in her arms, counting his fingers and toes, stroking his soft hair as tears filled her eyes "he looks just like you, Freddie when you were a baby."
"He finally knows," George smiled, approaching you, planting a friendly kiss on your head and sitting next to you "I'm sorry I couldn't be here."
"It's okay," you sigh, the corners of your lips curling up into a smile "but it's okay, everything has worked out perfectly in the end, better than I ever thought it would."
“I’m sorry for crashing into you” he frowned, sitting next to you on the train “is your head alright? I can try and make the bruising go away.”
You couldn’t stay mad at him, you chuckled and shook your head “It’s okay but thank you for offering” you smiled.
His twin brother entered the carriage, “Fred-” he stared at you “what’s happened to you?”
“I wish you were coming with us” Fred sighed, grumbling to himself.
“Oh don’t be silly, you’re going on holiday!” you beamed “just make sure you take plenty of pictures, I’ve heard Egypt is lovely!”
“I’ll write to you and I’ll send the photos through the owl post if I’ve got enough time.”
“We’re supposed to be studying for our O.W.Ls!” you hissed at Fred, hiding your answers from him as he continued to make your stationary levitate and drop onto your head.
“Please take part in this prank, Y/N” he begged “I promise I won’t ask for anything ever again.”
“But you always do, Freddie!”
He stared at you, pouting and making puppy eyes.
“Fine” you sighed, giving in “Let’s go and do it then.”
Fred punched the air and grabbed you by the hand, pulling you away from your desk, the two of you smirking and giggling with excitement.
“I didn’t realise it would be this cold” you shivered, standing outside of Honey Dukes, snow falling from the sky and sticking to the pavement.
Fred pulled off his knitted jumper “Put this on love, don’t want you freezing now do we?”
“I want you.” you breathed, pulling away from the kiss “I want you to fuck me like you do everyone else.”
“I want you too” Fred replied, taking your hand and fleeing from the party.
“Are you going to tell him?” George asked.
You shook your head “No, and the both of you aren’t going to tell him either, you need to promise me.”
“I’ve got plans!” Angelina smiled, unable to hold her emotions back, the bottle lid slowly starting to tremble as the liquid inside bubbled up.
“What’s going on?” Fred asked again, slightly puzzled as he had never seen her so excited.
“You don’t know?!” Angelina gasped “Me, George, and the girls are planning a surprise baby shower for Y/N!” she beamed.
“I’m ready to tell you” you sighed again “who the father is.”
They all stayed silent except Matt’s little sister, “who is it?” she asked quietly.
“Fred,” you blurted out, unable to hide his name for much longer “Fred Weasley is the father.”
"Y/N Y/L/N, will you marry me?" he asked, opening the ring box
You and George smirk at one another and laugh, shaking your heads, you partner Fred watching you and his newborns full of life - he had never felt this heavy strike to his heart before - but he couldn't mistake it anymore, he knew - he was truly in love.
Flickering your eyes open, you smirked at the open wide brown eyes staring back at you, the peppered freckles sitting across his nose and face which you slowly stroked with your index finger.
You didn't need to speak, you could just live in this moment forever, with him, your husband.
Your bedroom door slowly creaks open, you and Fred quickly cover your faces with the bed covers so only your eyes are visible, and the two of you chuckle when you hear the pattering of feet thunder across the room, only to be followed by another pair of feet, less thundery and more stumbly.
Your two boys pounce on the bed, full of energy and mischief, you and your husband jump up and lift up your children in your arms, pulling them into the soft and cosy sheets, tickling them, the room filling up with their laughter.
"Gideon! Fabian!" Molly yells up "Get down here now! Leave your poor mother and father alone to sleep!"
"Go! Go!" Fred whispers "Uncle Ron won't show you any magic if you don't listen!"
"Listen to your dad!" you smile "Or Uncle George won't show you any magic either!"
Your twins quickly pull shocked faces and scamper away, hurrying downstairs to finish packing with Molly to go to her house for the weekend as you and Fred were getting ready to go away for your honeymoon.
"Last night was the best night of my life," you kiss Fred softly, bringing up your hand in the morning light, examining the beautiful ring.
Hearing the door close downstairs and many feet storm away from the house, Fred wraps his arms around you and he pulls you into him, kissing your neck, his hot breath now tickling your ear.
"You won the bet" Fred whispered
“So, when can we make another one?” Fred winked.
“When we graduate from Hogwarts!-”
“Next year?” he raised an eyebrow.
“You didn’t let me finish! We need to graduate, get stable jobs and have a house with enough room!”
“So next year then?” Fred smirked, still cradling the baby.
Your furrowed your brows, unsure whether or not he was bluffing.
“Okay then, since you’re all confident, let’s make a bet.” You smirked back.
“If I win, we make another baby, if you win… we get married,” Fred said softly as the baby opened his eyes and let out a cry.
"Even if I did," Fred sighs "I still want to make another one."
You ponder the thought for a minute, "So why don't we?"
Sharing a glance, your husband attacks your lips with his, his hands roaming all over your body and pulling off your pyjamas whilst you take off his and get your hands lost in his golden hair. Life had finally worked out for you, for the twins, for Fred, you were finally a family - you never thought that you would be here now compared to the situation you were in three years ago.
Fred's eyes admire your naked body basking in the beam of sunlight that burst through the gap in the curtains, his finger traces your stretchmarks and he places small kisses across every single one of them, the reminder that you created and nurtured two lives inside of you, two lives he had helped you create after a heated makeout session at a party.
Fred didn't want anyone else but you, and the thought of him being present for the whole nine months to see another life blossom inside of you, gave him one more reason to thank the world for being in it.

Better late than never?? Supposed to post on the day itself but of course I couldn’t. This is my rushed contribution to the prompt: domestic mixed with black knight&princess.
ShinRan Week Day 6
Prompt: Domestic (+ Black Knight&Princess)
Words: ~2.5k
.
.
“Not just once, but twice! Who was it that saved my life again? Oh, unnamed knight with the black cloak, if you will grant me my wish… Please take off that dark mask and show me your true face!”
“If that is what, uh, the princess wishes, I shall show you my sorrow- sorrowful? - face under this moonlight. Oh wow this is cheesy.”
Ran leans on the arm of the couch, bound script covering her resigned face. If she had a hundred yen for every single complaint coming out of this detective’s mouth, she’d have enough to buy two entrance passes to Tropical Land for each day of the week, plus snacks and drinks.
“I went here because I thought you’d be a more immersive practice partner than ‘tou-san. You are worse.”
“I’m sorry, princess, if my mom being an actress ruined your expectations of me.”
“Oh, for sure. And otou-san doesn't destroy the scene by dropping nonsensical comments. And lie on the couch while reading the script. So he’s better by a lot.”
Shinichi props his body up, eyes rolling sarcastically before throwing a look at the lady on the edge. “To be fair, you came barging into my house so early on a Sunday. This is justified.”
“Shinichi, eleven in the morning isn’t early.”
With a stubborn grumble, the detective flops back into the cushions, script on his lap sliding to the floor. “ ’M tired Ran, long case last night, let me sleep.”
“Please, you’re my last option! School festival is in less than two weeks, and I can’t possibly ask Araide-sensei to spare time on a weekend outside of our rehearsal schedule when he’s busy working—”
The lightning speed Shinichi jolts upright causes Ran to cut herself short. “Araide-sensei is the cloaked knight?”
“Yes, didn’t I tell you?”
“You didn’t.”
“Really? I-” she pauses, delayed in taking in the curt iciness of his response when he was so apathetic five seconds ago. On anyone else it’s clear what that tone implies, but she’s never heard it on him.
“Do you have a beef with Araide-sensei?” she asks.
“A beef?”
Ran arches an eyebrow, skeptic. Shinichi meets her gaze, eyes slightly thinning before glancing away, cheeks crimson.
“I mean— Why Araide-sensei? Shouldn’t he be busy, I dunno, being a doctor, than being a fictional knight or something.”
“All the guys in our class were too shy and declined, so Sonoko asked Araide-sensei when he happened to come in for a checkup. He agreed so easily! Would you believe he’d taken a lot of lead roles in plays when he was a student?”
“And that was fifteen something years ago.”
“He’s also good at things like emphasizing lines and handling a woman!”
“Anyone can- What?!”
“Stop being a sourpuss Shinichi, especially when you’re the first to decline.”
He looks at her quizzically. “I did?”
“You don’t even remember?” Amidst the faint pink on her cheeks, disappointment etched on the way Ran’s lips curve to a small pout. “You were the first Sonoko asked... You were so quick to turn her down, she said.”
Astounded by the revelations docking in his brain all at once, Shinichi struggles to recall the conversations he had exchanged with Sonoko the past weeks. None stands out. If she had included Ran’s name in there, he would remember instantly. But Sonoko didn’t. Suddenly, the floodgates in his mind open.
If he finds out later on about the plot and the cast, he’ll definitely find a reason or two to sulk, if not object. Whether Ran is partnered with someone else or Araide-sensei doesn’t matter, for as long as it isn’t him. Him who she’s positive would outright reject her offer to act as a prince because why would he? In any case, god knows Sonoko omitted Ran’s name on purpose for this.
The sly woman has stirred something up, and she will proudly take the front row seat on his reaction she was so sure he’d make.
Not saying Sonoko’s predictions are right. This is just how she thinks. And he won’t react the way she expects he will. She is not right.
Not. Right.
Sonoko, yaro...
“Stand up, let’s do this.”
“Huh?”
“You want immersive? I’ll give you immersive.”
Left with little time to process as Shinichi pulls her by the hand, Ran drops her script on the floor. The sudden shift in character is unbelievable. How can someone so sleep-deprived turn into someone this enthused in a span of a breath?
“But first, let me…” He leaves the room, and Ran picks up her script, still quite lost. Whatever she said earlier must have triggered something, and she’s torn if she’ll ask once he returns but considers the possibility that he may break character. Not gonna risk that. He said he’ll give her an immersive practice, and it’s oddly unexpected, but she’ll take it. This is good. After all, she needs him as the knight.
Wants him as the knight.
“Sheesh, Ran, stop…” Shying away from her own maidenly thoughts, Ran flips to the designated page, scene, and line, rehearsing as she waits.
Some minutes later, Shinichi reappears, holding his script and something else. Of all things she would expect him to own, a blue fancy Columbina mask adorned with elegant silver and royal patterns wasn’t one of them.
“Mom has these things, okay,” he explains, putting it on. Ran isn’t sure if she wants to laugh or tease, but she does neither when she gets a glimpse of him with half of his face covered, and she catches her breath at the sight.
Standing against silk red curtains and brilliant glow of afternoon sunlight, he really does seem like a mysterious knight…
“Don’t laugh, idiot. After doing this for you. Wear this,” he says, and Ran zeroes in on the line of his lips because she has nowhere else to look at as he places a small barrette tiara on her hair. Doesn’t matter what he says, what they wear, even if they fail to match the daintiness of the mask and tiara. Shinichi with this on makes Shinichi as the knight much more vivid now. And Ran as the princess...
“Sorry!” She claps a hand on her warming cheek, pulls back a dumb smile she doesn’t notice she is wearing. “And I— I wasn’t laughing!”
“Still smiling creepily though.”
“I wasn’t being creepy! Geez. Anyway! Page-”
“Page 27, Scene 8, Line 10. Got it.”
After some short blocking instructions, they drop their scripts on the couch, and begin.
“Oh, unnamed knight with the black cloak, if you will grant me my wish… Please take off that dark mask and show me your true face!”
“If that is what the princess wishes, I shall show you my sorrowful face under this moonlight.”
Two steps forward and he removes the mask, and time slows down. She’s seen the same face a million times yet this time, her heart leaps like she’s laid eyes upon the most handsome face in the universe.
“Might—Might you be Spade?” She carries on, taking everything she can to maintain composure. “Long ago, you were banned from this land by my father… but now you’ve become the prince of Trump Kingdom...”
It’s nerve wracking, the way he’s strikingly still, eyes laden on her, either waiting for her next lines or admiring how beautiful she is with the tiara, she isn’t quite sure. The mask is gone, but he isn’t breaking character. Meanwhile, she’s trying her darned best to stay as Princess Heart of Bridge Kingdom.
“If you have… not forgotten about our childhood promise, then please…”
A nervous lump forms in her throat as she wraps her arms around his shoulders, and his hands find her waist, and she nearly gasps but holds it in because right now, she’s Princess Heart, not Mouri Ran asking this of Kudou Shinichi. “Please, show me on these lips.”
“As my princess so desires...”
It should be ‘the’, not ‘my.’ And there’s supposed to be another line after that, but nothing stops him as he leans in ahead of time and her eyelids flutter to the erratic beat of her heart. It’s better to be partnered with Araide-sensei in this after all. He will not mess up his lines, and she will not lose her mind the way she’s losing it now.
Two parted lips are a pucker away when the doorbell chimes, making both jolt.
Ran is first to snap out of character, as if she hasn’t had the urge to earlier.
“That—That must be Sonoko. I forgot to tell you...  I invited her in.”
“Oh, great,” Shinichi says.
Forcing her limbs into working order, Ran disentangles slowly, drawing a distance. Shinichi glances at the mask in his hand, then at her, before tossing it to the couch and turning for the door. From the window, she watches him walk to the front gate, scratching the back of his head in an annoyed manner like she just woke him from sleep, but grumpier. She hasn’t seen him display much emotion on a Sunday noon the way she’s seeing him now.
Maybe I shouldn’t have bothered him, she sighs, her turn to slump onto the couch this time.
-
“As I was saying, the prod already scouted the finest material for the costumes, and I decided, pink suits Princess Heart— Hello? Are you listening?”
Ran nearly drops the knife she holds if not for her inhuman reflexes. “Of course! Princess Heart in pink! Yes.” Like nothing happened, she resumes slathering jam and butter on the toast she’s preparing for the three of them. She doesn’t need to look at her side to know Sonoko’s eyeing her from head to toe.
“What happened to her?” The woman turns to Shinichi who sits at the high stool by the kitchen island.
“Dunno,” he says, sounding as noncommittal as he probably appears. Her back is turned against him, but she can see his face, and god why is she blushing?
“I just helped her rehearse. For the play,” he adds.
“Oh?” Sonoko’s brow perks up her forehead, hair whipping as she turns between her and the boy across them. “Did you?”
“Yup. Page 27.”
The dramatic gasp that tears from their friend’s throat is exactly the kind of gasp they expected; even so, Ran still flinches as Shinichi’s stool rakes the floor. “You kissed and I didn’t see?!”
“Hah?!”
“No!”
The two yelp in unison.
“That’s sly! You have to do it again! I’ll judge.”
“Excuse you! It didn’t happen, what you’re thinking!”
“Sonokooo!”
“Oh, shush, Ran, this is good practice. Good practice.”
“But—”
“Relax, rehearsal is rehearsal! In the actual play, once it’s Araide-sensei, he’ll do a better job—”
“I’m going to the toilet,” Shinichi gets off the stool, jaw stiff, out of the kitchen.
“—with a hug than a kiss. Right?” Sonoko ends, once Shinichi is out of the room.
“What?” Ran’s expression is inscrutable as she faces Sonoko completely, the flush across her face befitting embarrassment or ire. “You’re losing me here!”
“Oh, you’re not going to kiss, Ran. The lights will dim before your lips touch.”
“Then why—” she puts down the bread and walks in haste to the island to flip through the script, “Wh— That’s not in here!”
“Sonoko-sama hereby deems the script revised now that we have Araide-sensei.”
“Eh...?!” Ran cannot explain the play of her reactions. On one hand, a cloud is cleared from her mind, having to worry no more about doing something she has no experience with in front of watchful eyes. On the other, bunch of half-formed thoughts whirl through her mind that goes, Shinichi and I almost kissed for nothing, for nothing we almost k-kissed, an almost kiss with Shinichi, almost—
“That won’t do! I mean— That’s so not you! T-To choose a hug over a...”
“Duh, Ran! Even if it’s just a play, I won’t enable a kiss scene between a student and a staff member. We can fake the kiss. That, or switch to hug. Or better yet, change the male lead.”
“Change the male lead? In two weeks? Who will agree?!”
“Easy.” Just in time, Shinichi returns, hands in pocket and long face worn all the way to the stool.  “I know someone who will.”
-
‘Once it’s Araide-sensei, he’ll do a better job…’ What? Kissing Ran? Shinichi wants to puke. Sonoko needs to think things through. If this is part of her plan, it’s unacceptable, it sucks.
There’s no way, no way anyone can do a better job kissing Ran than…
“Aaaargh, what are you thinking!” He ruffles his hair in dismay, curses here and there. He only wanted to help Ran yet he almost went for it. Not as Spade but as himself. The audacity. It’s part of the script, sure, but—
If it is part of the script, then have Ran and Araide-sensei rehearsed it before?
“That’s it,” Shinichi huffs, storming out of the bathroom. If this is the kind of reaction Sonoko wants from him, she’s in for a show. Not just a show but a lifetime of curses and mental stabs. For her to go this far is unbelievable. Did Ran even agree to that? Will such a scene really happen in the play? No matter how despicable Sonoko’s methods are, he has faith she respects Ran’s preference as the female lead. No offense against Araide-sensei, but he cannot take Ran’s first kiss, whether as Spade or not.
That is not to say he knows Ran’s preference, especially when it comes to a first kiss, but… it’s not... Araide-sensei... is it?!
He cannot ascertain, not when Ran did nothing when they were about to kiss…
Okay, halt there, self. I said immersive. That’s immersive. She was acting.
All was but an act. She’s a great actress. I suck. No need to make this a big deal.
Shinichi is a pitiful mess once he’s back in the kitchen.
“My offer still stands, you know.” Sonoko sits beside him, munching a toast, while Ran is busy returning the jam in the cupboard, back against them.
“Your offer?”
Shinichi glances at Ran, then at Sonoko, with that feral grin on her lips and Shinichi does a bad job looking pissed, and it’s maddening because he is pissed, just not obvious with the blush forming across his cheek.
Reprimanding Sonoko is what he intends to do. For doing him dirty, him and Ran dirty, for dragging a staff to be the male lead, for imploring Ran to give her first kiss she’s probably saving in a different setting. All invalid reasons, when he cared less about the play before. He’s a full-time idiot, and Sonoko knows it clearly that’s why she’s offering the role again. He doesn’t want to fall into her trap, the same way he doesn’t want anyone else to be Spade when Princess Heart is Ran.
But Ran looks over her shoulder and they accidentally lock eyes, and pink blooms across her cheeks before she turns around, and suddenly the words that leave his mouth completely betray the thought process he underwent in the bathroom.
“If Ran agrees, yeah,” he says.

Kyoya Comforting His GF
it’s kyoya x fem!reader just because they wear a dress, but if ur fine with that then it can be gender neutral . (hope that makes sense)
unedited
Tumblr media
Outside of the prestigious Ouran Highschool, it was raining harshly. It looked like no one was going to be leaving the building too soon, anyone who had any after school activities were commanded to stay longer.
The school couldn’t risk these special heirs to get hurt, offering food for if they were hungry while waiting for the rain to stop.
The Host Club were having a off day, just joining together after school to discuss next weeks theme. But because of the students staying, they decided to open up last minute, causing more stress onto Kyoya. He was able to make Tamaki and the others dress up in costumes from musicals, making that the theme with things the twins found in the music room.
You had just finished your theatre practice, pulling up your coat and staring out of one of the larger windows, almost admiring how gorgeous the rain looked on this day. Contemplating on seeing how your boyfriend was doing.
Kyoya and you met through his father. Your father was a owner of a very successful technology company, so with new projects the Ootoris and L/n worked closely.
Somehow, you and Kyoya just clicked. You had a certain presence that set him at ease, that felt he could truly trust you and confide in you, he could take a breath and be himself.
You felt that you could be more of yourself, being a shyer person he made you feel more confident. Kyoya always encouraged you to work towards your dreams, not stressing on your future as a heir and more as yourself. (He can’t talk much since he mostly does the same, but it’s the thought that counts).
Kyoya didn’t tell people about you, as of your request. For a long time you went to a different school, just recently transferring, and having a lot of nerves with being new and having a famous father. You decided to hide yourself a bit more, taking on your mothers last name, and not yet telling everyone your dating a powerful mans son, maybe the next heir.
Putting in some earbuds, turning on one of the songs you had been practicing for the show. You started to hum to it a bit, picking up your books and walking away from the window to try and find a empty space.
Soon a fellow classmate appeared from behind the doors, quickly catching your presence and rushing your way.
When you first joined the first year class, she befriended you, realizing you were much kinder than others were in the beginning, and after chatting more, she realized you really were a fun person to be around.
“Y/n-san!” She exclaimed, rushing over to you with flowers in her hand. “How was your theater club?”
“It was nice, practiced my song today,” You nodded to her, a small smile present on your face. “Are you still in that one club?”
“Yes, actually, do you think you could help me find a radio? Tamaki-senpai wants me to play some music and I don’t have anything,” She complained and you agreed. The both of you travelled to the music room, finding a radio that worked well and could play the music wished.
When coming upon the Music Room 3 doors you decided to go in and try to help her set up the music system. Haurhi was very grateful for all your help, thanking you and offering to get you some tea.
“No, no it’s fine,” You shook your head, waving you hands. “I think I’m just going to go and get some extra practice in,”
“Hey, isn’t that the one girl,” Hikaru nudged his brother, pointing over to where you were talking with Haruhi.
“Oh, yeah, she’s so shy,”
“Mhm, do you know what I’m thinking?” Hikaru turned towards his brother, both of their lips lifting into mischievous smiles.
“Haruhi!” Tamaki called, giddily skipping over with a large smile. “Is this your friend, she’s so cute!” He walked over to you, pinching your cheeks while Haruhi tried to push him away. “You could have just asked, it will be fun, the twins already picked out a outfit!” He smiled and the twins rushed over, grabbing you and shoving you into a changing room.
“Y/n!” Haruhi muttered, truly confused at what Tamaki was saying. “Tamaki-senpai, what are you talking about?”
“They told me your friend wanted to dress up as one of us, since she’s in the theater group herself and that’s our theme today. They said you were to shy to ask- Oh I swear, those devils!” His face morphed into a angry expression, going to go give the twins a piece of his mind before you stepped out of the dressing room.
You were wearing a beautiful purple gown, somehow it made you look amazing, hugging you in all the right places. You loved the dress, but not all the eyes that fell on you.
“Wow who’s that?”
“Are they adding a female host?”
“Takashi look at her!”
“Y/n?” Kyoya questioned, looking up from his notebook and standing up. You were frozen in place, not expecting all this attention, forgetting how many people really were in the room.
“Tamaki-senpai!” Haruhi yelled, now sticking her finger in his face. “She’s really shy, doesn’t like all the attention, tell everyone to give her space,” Haruhi scolded, moving over by you.
“Y/n, what are you doing here?” Kyoya asked, walking up to you and having a somewhat softer expression.
“Kyoya-senpai, I know she shouldn’t have dressed u- wait how do you know her?” Haruhi wondered.
“How could I not?” He asked back, almost as if it was obvious. “Are you feeling okay, dear?” He looked back at you, taking your hand in his.
“Dear?!” Haruhi repeated, looking as if she would have a heart attack.
“Daddy has a girlfriend?!” Tamaki waltzed over, clutching his heart as if he was heartbroken.
“How does he even have one?” Hikaru inquired.
“The guy doesn’t even have a heart, how could he love someone?” Kaoru added.
“She’s so cute Kyo-chan!” Honey commented, a bright smile on his face. “Want to have some cake with me?”
“I was just trying to set up some music, not get dressed up,” You commented, still trying to calm yourself with all the people that were now surrounding.
Luckily for you and the group, a announcement was made that the rain had let up and families were sending staff to pick up their children. So everyone was to report to their original club rooms.
Kyoya was able to walk you over to a empty table while Haruhi made some tea, the both wanting to try and help calm your nerves. You accepted the tea graciously and the other club members slowly made their way over to you, now understanding and wanting to be careful.
“That was truly rude of you twins, and Tamaki,” Kyoya commented, sitting by you on the couch.
“Please don’t kill us!” The three yelled.
“It’s okay Kyoya,” You smiled at your boyfriend, placing the teacup down. “They didn’t know, I have to build up my courage anyways for the performance,”
“You should still proceed carefully, it hurts to see you scared my dear,” He told you, his voice soft, and hand intertwined with his while you moved closer to him, leaning your head on his shoulder.
“Thank you. It’s still nice to be introduced to all of your friends!”
“You should’ve come around sooner,”
“Theatre practice has been very busy, I was able to get the lead so their has been a lot more work to do,” You mentioned.
“You do theatre, I like to think I’m a amazing actor!” Tamaki beamed. “Look at my costume and looks, I truly do fit the part,”
“Uh, sure,” You laughed. “I also have to do this one part with a classmate, it’s a sweet part,”
“Well I’m looking forward to seeing it,” Kyoya smiled to you, kissing your forehead sweetly. He did it without thinking, without remembering his surroundings, and quickly felt his face flush.
When it came time for your performance. You were all dressed up, makeup and hair perfectly fitting the character you were portraying. The Host Club were all overjoyed to see you up there.
Throughout the weeks that followed the day you met them you all became close. They all tried to make you feel comfortable and gain more confidence for when you were to preform.
Seeing you on stage brought a smile to all of their faces. You looked like you were really being yourself and having fun, they clapped and cheered at all the appropriate moments. Kyoya even was a bit more ecstatic than usual.
It was nearing the end of the play and you were onstage with the other love interest throughout the story. He moved closer, wrapping hands around your waist and pulling you closer, than reaching a hand to cup your cheek and placing on long kiss onto your cheeks. The curtains closed and all of the Host Club members were looking at the scowl present on Kyoya’s face, scooting away a little.
After the play, the seven hosts were invited backstage, to meet the cast and celebrate the successful performance with them. Kyoya quickly made his way to you, giving you a large hug and seeing you talk to the love interest in the show. He then kissed you, the other boy running off and you laughing afterwards.
Little did this jealous Kyoya know was that this was only the first performance, you still had five more to go!

Dark Academia // Todoroki Shouto
Uhh what if UA was drenched in the dark academia aesthetic? Because I am a filthy whore for turtlenecks.
Todoroki Shouto
Tumblr media
It was half past 1AM. You know you should be sleeping, but the old creaking of the house and the constant tapping on your windows from the wind hitting the trees were deafening.
You climb out of bed, barely flinching at the cold wooden floors under your feet. You weren’t quite as familiar with the layout of the house as you were when you were a child, but due to your parent’s busy lives with work, you didn’t want to be left home alone during your winter break. Graciously, Endeavor, a close family friend, had offered his home to you for the next month. Of course you took up the offer. The beautiful high ceiling library, the magnificent grand piano, delicious and expensive tea? How could you say no?
The only downside was Shouto.
You’ve known each other since you were children but you two had always had a “friendly” rivalry as your years in boarding school progressed. You would go head to head in class seminars, sports, the speech and debate team, exams, and etc. You despised him and his prestigious attitude, but yet you two had always remained in each other's circle. Rumors arose, but it was hard to say when others would see yourselves having a screaming match in the hallways and studying together in the library that same evening.
Though your parents were very close to each other and insisted on spending dinners, vacations, and outings together- the banters and childish arguments continued then too.
With the moonlight shearing through the curtains, you were able to make your way towards the library. Your favorite room in the house. You cracked the door just enough to slip in. It was pitch black. You feel around the walls for the light switch before you notice a single lit candle on the table.
You grab a candle holder before making your way in between the bookshelves. You run your fingers along the old leather spines of the books. What were you feeling for tonight? Some Samuel Beckett? Sylvia Plath? Maybe something comedic.
“Looking for something?” A voice breaks the silence from behind you.
You quickly gasp and turn around. The candle in your hand illuminates a familiar face that stood a few inches away from yours.
“Christ, Shouto. Don’t scare me like that.” You quickly compose yourself, adjusting the blanket around your shoulders.
“What are you doing up so late? Shouldn’t someone like you be tucked away to bed already?” He cocks an eyebrow.
You roll your eyes. “Oh don’t patronize me, shit head. I could ask you the same thing.” You brush past him to continue searching the shelves. "A princess like you needs their beauty sleep."
From behind you, you hear his footsteps following you.
“Ah, I missed that. You’ve been avoiding me like the plague since you’ve gotten here. Makes me miss our in-class discussions.”
“You missed me, huh? I wished the feelings were mutual.” You tease. “In fact, I think your presence is quite suffocating.” You say peering over your shoulder at him.
He trails behind you and slithers a hand around your waist and pulls you close with your back to him.
“Now you better watch your words. You are in my home after all, and we are lost in between these bookshelves. It would be a shame if...” He leans over your shoulder and blows out the candle providing the only source of light in the room.
“It would be a shame if I poured this hot candle wax all over you, peabrain. Now it's pitch black and I can't see anything.” You groan.
“You’re telling me you didn’t light anymore out in the main study room? Good job, stupid.” He scoffs and releases you from his grip.
“Well why did you blow out the candle in the first place? This isn’t an erotic scene in Twilight. Get real.” You roll your eyes and turn to face him. "And stop stalking me. I wanted to come down here and escape the overwhelming Todoroki presence.
“I couldn’t help myself, you're just too easy to annoy." His voice suddenly goes low "But anyways, I'm glad I caught you because I've been meaning to discuss some things with you.” His voice suddenly goes low.
“What is it? Can't it wait until the morning or is it that dire?” You cock an eyebrow.
"Well it could've if you weren't fleeting every room I step into." He rolls his eyes.
You were suddenly less than a feet from each other. You could barely make out his face in the darkness, but he held onto your wrist to make sure you weren’t a fog in the dark.
“But no, it's not as serious as it sounds. I’ve just been wondering a lot lately. We've known each other since we were pretty much born right?"
"Right...?"
"Well, how do you really feel about me? Drop the academic rivalry stuff. Can you actually not stand my presence?"
You almost snorted out a laugh.
“Are you serious? You created this dramatic build up just to ask me that?” You try to suppress your laughter. "How old are you again?
Your eyes adjusted to the darkness and you met his gaze. He looked much more innocent than he did earlier. His hair was disheveled. His eyes were tired. I took you a second to calculate an answer.
“Okay, okay. I won’t tease you." You let out a sigh. "But... I think you’re infuriating at times. Annoying. Prideful.” You begin. “But you’re a good rival. You keep me on my toes. So I don't hate you as much as everyone thinks I do. Only a smidgen I guess." You playfully say.
“Ah okay. Ditto to you. Princess complex. Always have to be so pristine and proper around everyone.” He chuckles under his breath “But you know I don’t hate you either. You keep things interesting over at UA. I like having you around.”
A blush dusted over your cheeks. You’ve never seen Shouto get so into his emotions. He’s usually as serious as ever and keeps conversation casual at most. You had to admit to yourself that you did have an infatuation with him when you were at the ripe age of 13, but that was quickly repressed when you were competing for the entrance to UA.
“Yeah...I’m glad we were both accepted into UA." You awkwardly look down at your feet. "But why'd you ask anyways?”
"I'm not sure. I guess I was just trying to predict how our dynamic would play out after we grow up and part ways onto our own careers."
"I see. I mean if I'm being blunt, we're not exactly bffs. Kinda."
You’ve always seen him in a different light than your peers. They always complimented him and boasted about him and were envious of his intelligence, but you knew him better than that, which is why your relationship was so confusing.
"How has.." You begin "...your father been?"
His breath hitches before he sighs. He then lets out a scoff. You feel his hands fall from your wrist.
"He's been the same guy he's always been. You know how it is." You could hear the sad smile in his voice.
"I do." You reply sadly.
"I want to be a writer. A journalist even. He wants me to take over his company. It's pathetic. There's no chance that I'd be able to run a business and write on the side."
"Hey, don't talk like that." You cut him off. "Who says you can't just drop the business all together and pursue writing? You've got brains in your head and the heart of a lion."
"Now watch yourself. if you keep talking like that, I might risk it all right now." He chuckles.
"I'm serious." You firmly put both your hands on his shoulder now, giving them a hard squeeze. "You don't have to be who your father wants you to be. I support you. Even if I want to rip your face off sometimes, you know I'll always be rooting for you."
There was a moment of silence between you two. He stood there, eyes gazing into your own like a lost child searching for something. You didn't know, but he appreciated your words more than you may think. He's been waiting his whole life for some reassurance and some escape from the path he's been forced upon.
"Thank you Y/N. Really." He pulls you in for a hug and it feels like all of the air from your lungs and is replaced with the soft scent of sweet mint and lemons. You hug him back tighter, smothering your face in his chest.
"No problem. You know, all these years of insults aren't for nothing." You mutter. "I want you to be the best version of yourself."
He moves his hands from your back to cup your face and head. He pulls away just enough to plant a gentle peck on the top of your head. You stayed intertwined like that for a few moments longer. You felt your body overheat under the thick blanket draped over your shoulders, but you didn't move.
"Y/N."
"Uh..yeah?" You muffle out. Your heart was racing.
"I think this is the first time we've hugged. Ever." He chuckles. "A lot of people would be jealous, you know."
"Aaanndddd... you've officially ruined it." You roll your eyes and push him away. "Get a lot of bitches, Shouto? Huh? You're such a hot shot, right?"
"Of course. I am a Todoroki after all." He teases.
"Ah yes. Nothing else to admire other than your family name." You began making your way down the aisle of books back to where you came from, he follows right behind you. "I thought you never cared about romance and all that bullshit."
He ponders the idea for a second.
"I've been around. Relationships are distracting and not many people catch my attention anyways."
You and Shouto make it to the main study where you light more candles around, dimly lighting the room just enough to see each other's faces.
"Oh? You've been around?" You ask with amusement, browsing through many of the books stacked on the table. "I've always thought you were too good for anyone. Might I say, a pure virgin boy?"
"Shut up." He rolls his eyes. "I've had my fair share of flings and dates. Bet you can't say the same can you, prude? Not even a first kiss?"
"As if I have the choice. My father wouldn't let me waste any time with a significant other, and I know for a fact that yours wouldn't either." You scoff. "And I've actually kissed lots of people! And I bet all of them would say I'm decently good too!"
You start to feel your stomach twist. You lied. You've never had your first kiss. You've always ran away from confessions and confrontations. You have your back turned to Shouto, mindlessly flipping through the books to mask your nervousness but your clammy hands could instantly give you away.
You feel a hot breath exhale onto your bare neck, making you instantly turn around to face the tall figure blocking your view. You look up to lock eyes with the boy you grew up learning to despise.
He picks up a strand of your hair and twirls it between his fingers. "You know, after spending so much time with you for all these years, I think I have a pretty good idea of your mannerisms. Especially when you're telling the truth or not."
"You don't know anything about me, Todoroki." You stand your ground and glare up at him.
"You've never had your first kiss. You've never felt someone else's skin on yours." He states, running his fingers down your strand of hair. "Don't lie about it. I know you."
"And if I haven't then why is it any of your business?" You spit back.
"It's not, but just wanted you to admit it. You're not the winner you think you are, Y/N."
Your face erupts in fire, but you keep your composure calm.
"The winner? Sweetheart, I'm the prize" You snarl.
You step forward, making him stumble back.
"You think you're so desired. You think you have everybody wrapped around your finger, but listen here, babe." He eventually hits the wall on the other side of the room. His eyes are wide.
"You can have anyone you want. You can swoon as many as you would like, but you can't have me."
You grab the back of his neck and pull his face close to yours. You're damn near on your tippy toes just to reach him, but you make the effort flawless. His breath hitches as you're just a few inches away from each other. You squeeze your eyes shut and connect your lips together like a hard punch.
He felt frozen, but slowly matched your lips. His hand harshly grips the side of your neck as if he's slipping away.
You were on fire. Your feet were ready to cramp up from holding the position for so long, your eyes were begging to open to see whether or not his were, your hand on the back of his neck was getting even more clammy, and you honestly felt like you could throw up for the bold move you just made.
You ripped away and stumbled a few steps back.
"But I can have you. And that's what makes me the winner."
You turn around and quickly escape, leaving him and your dignity in the study.
At least you left with your pride.

Chapter One - Oh, What a Circus
It was a beautiful awakening that you had on the day that your life and future changed, when you woke up from your siesta, your chambers were warm and the perfect Spanish sunlight was streaming through your sheer linen curtains. The room was cast in a holy yellow light like God himself was honouring you. You made the most of your siestas now because you had heard that the boring English people did not take them.
Smiling sadly, you plucked a sugared grape from the golden platter and you walked over to your window, relishing in the beauty of the Castile water gardens. You knew that you would never be coming back to this palace of such beauty and splendour again because you were to be the Queen of England. You were to live out the rest of your days in grey old England. It had been a betrothal since birth but you didn’t want it, you never had. Only your parents wanted it.
You felt your eyes fill up with tears – you didn’t want to be the Queen of England – and you prayed to God, telling him so and asking him for a miracle. It seemed like God had heard you and answered your prayer for a few moments later, your father was shouting outside of your rooms, his voice like rumbling thunder.
“How dare he insult us so? Bastardo!”
At the commotion you crept out of your rooms and into the hallway where your mother and father were talking, the hallway was hardly the place to be talking about this, “Madre, Padre,” you called out as you approached them.
Your father’s eyes softened as he looked at you but he still brandished the letter in front of your face, “that son of a whore King James has written to us apologising for he has taken a common woman to wife and made her Queen! We should ally with the French and invade England!”
A soft blossom of hope bloomed in your chest as you realised that you wouldn’t have to marry the King of England. But, you were also incredibly insulted, how dare he refuse you? You, who was the Princess of the Castile, was not to be refused
The Queen tutted as she snatched the letter from your father, “we need to be allied with the English, it’s been 16 years in the making, we cannot throw it all away. King James had been kind enough to propose an alternative match.”
Your father growled, alarming some passing servants, “he offers us the Duke of Bedford, a man who has bastards all over England no doubt. He’s not worthy of our greatest treasure,” your father smiled fondly at you as he cupped your cheek with a large hand and you smiled up at him.
You knew the Duke of Bedford – Sirius Black – by reputation; he held the French lands for the English. He was said to be handsome but had fathered many bastards. Your father was right, he wasn’t good enough for you, “Padre is right Madre. I am a princess and I should be marrying a future King, a Duke is below my station. I won’t marry him!”
Your mother’s eyes flashed with malice as you defied her, she had always hated the fact that you weren’t a boy; she had to pass on her crown to your older sister, “you will Y/N! The Duke of Bedford is the second most powerful man in England; the King heavily relies on his council. You will be a very powerful woman, also no one in Europe will take you now, you’ve been promised to England since birth and now they will get you. We will write of our confirmation and our thanks and you will set sail for England as soon as possible Y/N. the Queen wants to meet you before you go to the Duke’s lands in France,” she looked at you without warmth as she strode down the corridor. She was a ruthless leader but you almost looked up to her.
Your father smiled at you kindly as he kissed your forehead, “Mantenerte fuerte Y/N,” he whispered against your skin.
“Mantenerte fuerte Padre,” you repeated with a smile as you looked into his kindly, weathered face.
The day before you were due to set sail for England you were taking a walk around the Castile water gardens with your lady in waiting, Sofia. You feared that this was the last time you would see the radiant Spanish sunshine and Sofia must have sensed your fear because she took your hand in hers.
“We will see this land again Your Highness, with your children. England is but the next great adventure,” she told you wisely and you smiled at her, squeezing her hand gently as you sat on the stone benches.
“I really hope so Sofia.”
The crossing to England was slow and gentle but the rocking motion of the ship made you rather sick, so sick that you were sure that you would die. Sofia was at your side, sponging your forehead and the back of your neck as you sobbed, you wanted to go home. You missed your parents already. You even missed your mother with her cruel words and scathing retorts, she acted like she was the King herself but she was the strongest woman you knew. You hated leaving your father behind with her.
Finally, after what felt like years at sea, you saw land again and you could have wept with joy, even if it was dreary and dull, it was supposed to be springtime. You disembarked from the ship with shaky legs and you were met by the English army who all bowed low to you, “Your Highness,” they muttered as they sank into the sand. You made the most of the fact that they were using your proper title; you weren’t sure how long that would last.
You chose to ride alongside the army instead of residing in the lavish litter that the English had prepared for you. You wanted to see as much of this new country as you could. The first thing that you noticed about this land was that it was very green and you knew that England must get a lot of rain. That thought did nothing to cheer your dark mood.
Though, you missed Spain terribly, you saw the charm and the beauty of the English countryside and the villages you passed through, you smiled at the peasants as they called your name. You hoped that you would grow to love this new land because you would be coming to live at the English court after your wedding.
The English court – and London - was much more beautiful than you had anticipated even if it was a bit constricting. Nerves swarmed in your stomach as you were admitted into the magnificent Throne Room and you noticed that all the lords and ladies of court were looking at you like you were some sort of strange beast. It was in the Throne Room where you saw the most beautiful and dazzling woman.
Queen Lily had long curling tresses of flaming auburn hair and she had the most beautiful green eyes. You almost admired the King for defying everyone and marrying the woman that he loved. True love was all that you wanted but you were unsure whether you would ever have it, you had been unsure about that fact since you were a little girl. Queen Lily was smiling at you with beauty and kindness in her eyes while the King looked at you warily. He should look at you like that; he should have been ashamed of himself.
You sank into a low curtsey, “your Majesty’s,” you muttered.
“Princess Y/N, thank you so much for coming here and accepting our invitation please arise,” the Queen smiled, she had a melodic voice. You smiled back and stood up straight.
“I apologise for the insult that I must have extended to your family,” King James bowed his head mournfully and you had to admit that he did look very sorry.
You shook your head, if the King started to apologise to his subjects then he would seem weak to those who would want to take his throne, “you’re the King,” you said simply, “I am happy to marry the Duke of Bedford,” you lied.
King James chuckled as he ran a hand through his messy curls, “well, I’m sure that Sirius will be delighted to hear it,” he grinned and the court chuckled obediently.
Queen Lily giggled; it was a musical pretty sound, as she got up from her throne and walked towards you, taking your hand in her warm one as she looked at you with a kind smile. She was as warm as the Spanish sunshine, “I would be delighted if you and your lady would join my household when you return to court.”
For the first time that day you didn’t have to fake the smile, “we would be honoured,” you smiled at Sofia who nodded eagerly. You were touched by her kind words; she smiled and lowered her voice so only you could hear.
“We ladies must stick together; it’s a man’s world after all.”
You smiled as you shook your head, remembering what your mother had told you years ago, “no your Majesty, it’s a woman’s world, men just live in it. I know it’s hard to believe but in time you will see it.”
------------------------------------
Sirius’ springtime dream had come to a rude and final ending, he had spent his days among such beauty and pleasure that he never wanted to stray from it. No man would. However, duty – and his King – called him and he couldn’t refuse the call. He had to leave behind his life of pleasure for a life at court where friends would stab each other in the back. Sirius was getting married and he didn’t want to dishonour his future bride, even if he would resent her. So he had to say farewell to his mistresses. They were sad to see him go.
Sirius had been best friends with King James since they were boys and James had made him such a powerful man than Sirius was only second to the King. James had been betrothed since birth to Princess Y/N of the Castile. At first Sirius was jealous that James was to wed a Princess but then again, he was going to be the King, it was his birth right. Sirius was surprised when James had come to him about four weeks ago to tell him that he had secretly married Lily Evans, a very minor lady at his court.
James’ marriage meant that the contract with England was void unless there was another match for the Princess. At first Sirius had resisted the match, he fought and raged against the King before he stopped and really thought about it. He had to marry well and he couldn’t do any better than the Princess of the Castile, a young woman who had been promised to the King. Sirius knew that he wasn’t good enough for her but he was used to coming in second, to his younger brother Regulus, and to James.
It was a beautiful day in France the day he was to meet his future bride and hoped with all his heart that it was a good omen. He jumped as the door flew open and James strode in, grinning like a Cheshire cat, “come on Sirius! Y/N is here and she’s as fair as they all say,” James beamed, it seemed like he was really happy for Sirius.
However, that didn’t stop Sirius from grimacing, “then why didn’t you marry her?” Sirius mumbled, combing his fingers through his hair as they walked down the hallway.
James snickered as he slapped Sirius on the back, “because I fell in love,” he said it as if it was the answer to everything, “and I wish you and Y/N the same.”
“Not bloody likely,” Sirius muttered as they descended the stone steps and walked out into the glorious French sunlight.
Butterflies swarmed in Sirius’ stomach as he looked towards Lily and Remus – the Earl of Warwick – who both nodded at him encouragingly. Taking a deep breath, he looked towards his future bride and felt his heart jump up into his throat. Princess Y/N was beautiful; it was like she had just wandered from the pages of a fairy tale. She looked just like the Nymph that was featured in the tapestry that hung in the East Wing. Though, Sirius knew that beauty counted for nought if she had an ugly heart.
Y/N’s pretty eyes looked over the beautiful chateau appreciatively before she gained the courage to look at Sirius. Her eyelashes seemed to flutter of their own accord and her lips opened slightly as a pretty flush grew on her face and neck.
Y/N cleared her throat and curtseyed, her ladies following suit, “My Lord, I am pleased to meet you,” her voice had a wonderful little something to it due to her Spanish accent but it was still as pretty as a song.
Sirius smiled as he approached her and he noticed her eyes roam from his feet, stopping at his lips before looking into his eyes. Her eyes sparkled in the sunshine, like precious jewels. He bowed low to her and took her warm hand in his, pressing a feather light kiss to the top of it.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Your Highness, you are most beautiful,” he said smoothly and her flush deepened, “in my household you will still be treated as a Princess, even after we are married,” he didn’t want to take that title away from her.
“Thank you, My Lord,” she smiled, looking pleasantly surprised, “your home is beautiful, I think that I will like it here.”
“Would you like for me to show you around?” he asked on a whim as he held out his hand.
She nodded, the sunlight rippling through her soft hair as she did so and she took his hand, allowing him to lead her inside. As soon as they got into the cool chateau Y/N let go of his hand. Sirius bit his lip as he rubbed the back of his neck as he nervously looked over at the beautiful princess, searching for the right words.
“I’m sorry Your Highness, you weren’t supposed to come here to be a Duchess, you were supposed to be Queen.”
Y/N looked at him and smiled wanly, in the depths of her eyes there was almost a look of understanding, “I don’t like being passed around England like a prized cow.”
Sirius nodded as Y/N stopped to marvel at a beautiful tapestry embroidered with a mermaid, “I understand, you won’t get passed around England. I promise.”
“Thank you, My Lord,” she smiled graciously as she bowed her head.
“Sirius, call me Sirius.”

The palace was overwhelming in its splendor. You had never set foot in such a place and now it was to be your home. No, you weren't to live among the upper floors of nobles, but to serve them and reside with the other servants below. You couldn't complain as already the position was preferable to your former. You didn't miss the steam of the launderers down by the docks nor did you miss the smell of fish guts and worse things.
Melora was to share the thin hay-stuffed mattress with you in the servants' quarters and so it was also her task to accommodate you to your new duties. It was simple enough to clear away the plates and scraps of the wealthy and sweep away the dirt left behind by the soles of their polish boots and sandals. It wasn't some new and extraordinary mission, only the setting was different.
You first week was overwhelming only for all the new faces; servants and aristocrats alike. The latter swept by in their silky gowns and capes as you paused to show deference. You'd bend your knee and bow your head until they passed then resume your work in the corridor. You truly preferred the kitchen where there was little risk of encountering any of the noble Asgardians. One slip and you could be back to the docks or worse.
Melora had already told you many stories of errant eyes and harsh consequences. Her former bed mate had scuffed the toe of Prince Loki's boots and was dismissed the next day. You wondered how long you would, or could, last. You'd just have to do what you did best, fade into the wall.
That night, the king, Thor, planned a feast to mark his late father's name day. It was to be a significant affair and the palace was alive with frenetic energy. Servants toiled below and nobles harried above to dawn the perfect attire for the occasion.
You tended to the evening's meal along with the kitchen staff; several boars spitted for the occasion and mounds of vegetables pealed and speared on long skewers to roast. Casks of ale and wine were rolled in from the cellars and ewers shone as they were loaded onto carts along with stacks of golden plates, bowls, and goblets. You'd never seen such turmoil, not even when a storm crested just off the shore and the fishermen flurried to unload their wares should their ships be lost.
The hours flew by as the chores seemed endless and as the signal was given to start arranging platters, you were picked out with a dozen other girls to carry ewers filled with wine to the feast hall. Melora was just behind you, her toes whispered behind your heels as she kept close.
"We'll be serving for the night. It's tiresome, not a moment off your feet." She muttered. "Those nobles stomachs are as endless as their pockets."
You nodded, your voice locked deep in your chest. The hall glowed with glass lanterns that illuminated golden silk draped artfully from the columns around long trestle table lined with benches. You recalled the nicest dinner you'd ever attended was held by your mother when you were a child. Seasoned fish and carrots shoveled down in the small house behind the smithy.
Melora stopped you as you made to follow Irene to the north wall. She touched your arm and kept her voice low.
"We will keep an eye to these tables," She pointed the the three rows between you as she took her place beside a marble plinth, "Stay alert but don't let your eyes stray."
"Alright," You mumbled softly and hugged the ewer.
Scarlet table clothes draped the long tables and the golden dishes were set out precisely. You were distracted from your awe by movement near the doors. A man with a horn entered and placed his lips to his instrument. Voices rose from the corridors and the brass called to the approaching nobles, arriving from the ceremony held on the palace green
You lowered your eyes as the nobles entered in pairs and trios and larger groups. They trilled as they found a seat among the trestles and when all were upon the benches, the horn sounded again. The guests stood and quieted as they looked expectantly to the doors.
It was a moment before the king appeared. He wore his golden crown and formal cloak of a similar shade. You peeked at the hem of his cape but kept your chin down. You hadn't yet been in the presence of King Thor and you had been content to avoid him. The thought of it made you quiver. While he was known to many as a jovial king, you'd found that those rumours did not come from the lips of the palace staff.
Music rose from the harps and fine lutes as the king's footfalls echoed through the hall. As he neared the table at the head of the chamber he turned and his people fell into an uproar. The applause was raucous if not overdone. You suspected that obligation was more the reason than admiration.
Well, it wasn’t your duty to surmise.
The king sat and the nobles followed suit. You mimicked Melora and the other servants as they walked the length of the table and filled the cups of guests. You went to the casks hidden behind a curtain at the rear of the hall and refilled your ewer before returning to your vigil. The hall burgeoned with the sound of scraping cutlery, buzzing voices, and booming laughter. For a moment, you envied them all. What was like to be them?
A cup raised and a call came for a drink. You diligently made your way along the table and filled the goblet. You glanced across as Melora did the same at the next table, just a little further down. A hand reached back and squeezed her ass. You blanched and righted the ewer.
You retreated, eyes on the floor. What should you do if it happened to you? Melora only giggled and carried on. What if you overturned the pitcher? Well, Melora was rather pretty, perhaps it would not happen to you.
The night wore on as such, pouring and standing. You noticed that Melora was not the only servant prone to wandering fondles. None of the women seemed particularly bother however and tarried from their perches along the wall to act coy for the noblemen.
"Drink! Drink!" A deep voice called as a giggle chirped just in the next row. "Drink! Servant! Who will serve their king?"
Tho sounded as drunk as the next guest. You glanced over, just for a second, and took in his long golden hair and thick beard, the rosiness in his cheeks and the fire in his pale blue eyes. You looked around and none of the other servants seemed to hear him, they were all too distracted by the words and coins offered by the lascivious guests.
You blinked and hesitated. The wine sloshed in your ewer and you looked around once more. The king continued to call, growing increasingly irritated. You watched your feet as you turned and began down along the wall. You walked behind the line of chairs at the head table, fewer than the rest. Only Thor, his brother, and his closest friends had the honour.
Your heart was beating in your ears as you grabbed the handle of the ewer and lifted it from against your stomach. You saw the tail of his gold cloak, hung from the back of his chair, and his crown, sat beside his plate. You kept your head down as you stopped beside his chair. You squeaked first, your words garbled, then tried again.
"Your majesty?" You held up the ewer and he put his cup out toward you. You filled it and he rescinded it so quickly, some splashed over the rim onto his hand.
You bowed and backed away slowly. You heard a deep gulp as you focused on the legs of the chairs.
"Another, sweet maid," He called before you could get past the end of the table.
He had drank so fast, you wondered how he did not keel over. You returned to him and filled his goblet again. He chuckled and took another drink.
"Your majesty," You repeated and took a step back.
"A shy one," He mused and you stopped. "I've not seen you before."
Your eyes rounded at the floor and your lashes fluttered.
"Me, your majesty?" You asked.
"Yes, you, I don't speak to my own brother," He scoffed. "So, are you new or have you hidden in the shadows?"
"I arrived at the palace only three weeks past, your majesty," You said.
He leaned on the arm of his chair and waved his fingers along the edge of your vision.
"Come closer or speak up," He urged. "I cannot hear you."
You swallowed and took a breath. You struggled to steady your voice.
"Your majesty." You said loudly.
"Well, you may look upon me, should you wish. It is not forbidden. Not looking, anyway." He drank again and held out his cup. You stepped closer to pour and watched the wine trickle from the ewer but still could not look up. "Very well. Your ears seems sharp enough. Stay close, I am thirsty."
You uttered another 'your majesty’ and carefully tiptoed away. You thought he would remand you once more; tell you how you had failed at the mere act of walking. He didn't and you backed up to the wall. You felt a warmth around you. He was still looking at you but you did not dare to raise your head. You did not dare to see what should happen if you did.
🌩️
The rest of the night was uneventful aside from the king’s lingering eyes. By the end, you suspected it was some sort of game. The same that all the other men in the room seem to be in on. The only difference was that your reticence made it little fun for either side. And in the end, there were a dozen other servants who would gladly accept the king’s ploys.
When the feast hall was empty, you remained with the rest of the servants and those who came from the kitchens to help clear the trestles and decorations. Like many of the others, Melora was still giddy from her flirtations and there was a slight jingle to her step as a few coins were nestled in her bosom.
The next time there was such an event, you might request to remain in the kitchens. The very thought of those men touching you made you recoil and the memory of the king’s taunting gaze made you burn in humiliation. It was one thing to clean up after others, it was something else entirely to be mocked by them.
You were exhausted by the time you returned to your shared mattress. Melora whispered with Magga as you slung your arm over your head in hopes of tuning them out. It was so late that the morning arrived within a few hours and you woke with a heavy head. You pulled on your servant’s dress over your slip and belted it first with a plain strap of leather and then the apron you wore to mark your station.
You yawned as you went to fetch your broom and bucket. You were stopped by Agnes as you did, the older maid often sent you off where you were needed before ordering another to fix their cap or their dress. She caught the handle of your broom and snatched the bucket from you as you stared at her dumbly.
“The king has council this morning and I heard what Melora got up to last night.” Agnes took the broom and pail from you, “You will take her place and mind your place. You girls…” She sighed. “As quickly as you’ve come, you can go. I shouldn’t have to remind you so often.”
You nodded and she pursed her lips.
“Well, better go. You don’t want to be barging in in the midst of royal business,” She shook her head. “Remember to keep your mouth shut and your head down.”
You gave another silent affirmation and flitted past her. Melora rolled her eyes as she was handed your broom and you gave her a pitiful smile. You didn’t tarry to commiserate as you realised you had to find the council room on your own. You’d only passed it once in your short time in the palace and you weren’t quite trusting of your memory or sense of direction.
You went down the east corridor instead of the west as you reached the upper floor. When at last you righted your course and found your way, the chamber was empty. You placed the steins before the seats and poured the light ale in each. As you left the pitcher in on the side table, the door croaked and you turned to greet the first arrival.
Prince Loki entered with an arched brow. You bent and averted your eyes at once. You recited a quavering ‘your highness’ and he grumbled in response and sat. He let out a long breath and turned the stein before him with his long fingers.
“You haven’t any wine? Or in the least, water?” He asked.
“I brought some water as well but no wine, your highness,” You offered.
“Very well,” He shoved the stein away from him.
You poured him a glass of the water and he took it without platitude. He sipped and rubbed the arm of the chair as he leaned back and hooked one leg over the other.
“My brother and his cronies are ever late,” He sneered. “You might quit your hovering until they arrive.”
You bowed your head and backed up to the wall. The prince picked at his nails and fidgeted then another entered and he greeted him in monotone. Lord Geir sat heavy across from him and grabbed the stein impatiently. He was followed by Fandral, Volstagg, Hogun, Amund, and the solitary female, Sif. The king was last, almost a whole hour after his brother as he strode in and greeted the room with a booming jape.
Loki rolled his eyes and you caught yourself staring at the nobles. You sucked your lip in and listened as Thor sat and the wooden stein scraped on the table.
“You all look well-rested,” He mused and a grumble rose from the table. “I must say I didn’t sleep much. Lady Dagny is rather persistent.”
“Brother,” Loki cleared his throat and shifted in his chair, “Shouldn’t we begin? You are already late and the day does pass us by.”
“Jealous?” Thor chuckled. “Oh, but you always were rather dull. I doubt you’d know what to do with her if she did venture to your bed.”
“This is a council meeting not one of your repugnant socials,” Loki drawled. “I’ve come here to tend to business but if you haven’t any business to tend, I will be on my way.”
“Don’t you fret, we will attend to business,” Thor declared and made a horrible squelch as he emptied his stein. “Once I get another ale.”
“Perhaps water would--”
“Ale,” Thor ignored his brother’s plea and waved his stein in the air.
You jolted away from the wall and took the pitcher from the table beside you. You swept around the table, head down in hopes the king did not recognize you, though you had faith he would not remember you, be it for his drunkenness or the sheer number of faces in the palace. You poured and uttered a “your highness” before you drew away.
You stood against the wall once more and stared at the back of the chair in front of you. Hogun’s shoulders slumped as he leaned on the left arm and yawned. You swore you were being watched but again did not look up. You assured yourself it was your paranoia. And after a night, you were certain it had been as much before. Thor was a king with much bigger concerns than a servant; especially you.
As promised, though with obvious reluctance, Thor began the session. You didn’t understand much of it and even if you did, it was difficult enough to listen to the dry discussion. You filled the cups as bid and kept your vigil by the wall. Your feet were sore from standing still for so long but so was the life of a servant.
After two hours, the king gave his dismissal but not without a final disagreement with his brother who did not agree with some tax on lumber or another good. You hadn’t really followed. One by one, the council members trickled out. All but the king as he leaned back in his chair and belched.
“You’ve got more ale?” He asked.
“Your majesty,” You grabbed the jug again and neared. “Another stein at least.”
He waited silently as you poured the dregs of ale into his cup but he did not touch it. Your doubts were no longer so firm in your mind. He was most assuredly watching you. You made to back away and he raised his hand, his palm to you as he hummed.
“Stay.” He ordered. He sat forward and took the jug from you and put it on the long table. “Sit.”
You glanced over to the seat as he pointed to it. You didn’t move, too nervous, and just stared.
“Must I tell you again?” He warned.
You sat, almost falling as you did. Another “your majesty” rose out of habit.
“Look at me,” He planted his elbow on the table and he leaned forward and tried to look in your eye. “Sweet maid, look at me.”
You braced yourself and slowly lifted your head. As your eyes met his, a smile spread across his face. You blinked and your eyes fell just as soon as they’d risen. His arm slipped from the table and he grabbed your chin. He lifted your head and squeezed. You looked at him and took a deep breath. Your hands tangled in your lap as you went rigid in the chair.
“Does the sight of me offend you?” He asked.
“Wh-wh-- No, you’re majesty,” You stammered. “I only… Out of respect, I--”
“You have beautiful eyes,” He said softly, “I wouldn’t mind so much to have them upon me.”
Your brow crinkled despite yourself and he released you. He chuckled and grabbed his stein. He tilted it slightly towards you.
“Thirsty?” He asked. You shook your head. “Ah, you wouldn’t-- Other duties no doubt await you.” He took a swig and placed the cup down. “Be on your way then, sweet maid. I will not keep you from your diligence.” His eyes clung to you as you stood warily. “Your devotion is most admirable.”
“Your majesty,” You as good as whispered.
“I fear I haven’t your name,” He said.
You flinched and had to think. You were stunned by the simple request but managed to eke out your name. His smile grew and he nodded as he rubbed his knee thoughtfully. He said your name gently and nodded.
“I might see you again,” He said. “You do seem to be everywhere.”

Book Two: Sapphire (Ignis x Reader) Chapter X
The royal retinue reach the courtyard outside the Leville just as the ground beneath their feet began to shake. At the same time, Noctis grabs his head and winces. Images flash through his mind, but he couldn't make sense of them. Shaking his head, the pain and vision subside. Gladio, who was the closest to the prince, noticed his painful expression. "What's wrong?"
"My head just started throbbing," Noctis replied, hiding the details of the vision he witnessed.
"You all right?" Prompto asked worriedly.
He nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine."
"A headache at the exact moment of an earthquake," (Y/n) hummed. "I would say it isn't a coincidence."
"Indeed," Ignis agreed.
"Doesn't matter. It's gone," Noctis said.
They enter the Leville and stand in the lobby to wait for Iris. Gladio crosses his arms, tapping his foot impatiently against the tiled floor. He wasn't sure what was taking his sister so long, but she descended the stairwell a few minutes later.
"Gladdy!" Iris chanted, hurrying down the stairs.
Said boy looked up and smiled at his sister. He was relieved to see she was uninjured and safe from the hell raised by the empire in Insomnia. Although he lost his father, at least he still had his little sister. "Iris."
The young Amicitia glances around at the faces of the boys. She had yet to spot (Y/n) due to being hidden behind Ignis' tall, lithe body. "Look at you guys, holding your own out there."
Prompto smiled with slightly red cheeks. "What can I say? You look good."
"All things considered," Iris exhaled heavily. "You guys are staying here, right?"
"That's the plan," Ignis said, taking a step to the side and revealing the girl hidden behind him.
Iris noticed the fifth member of the group and blinked in surprise. She searched her memory and tried to remember seeing someone as beautiful as her before, but she couldn't recall anyone. She hastily took a few steps towards her, signaling the beginning of a throng of questions. "Who's this? Is she a crownsguard? But that outfit is way too nice." Iris circles (Y/n), examining her appearance closely. Reaching the front, she saw the slitted eyes and gemstone. "Wait, you're a guardian! But I don't remember any of the guys except Ignis having one. Now that I think about, I don't see her here."
Gladio stopped his sister after seeing how uncomfortable (Y/n) was becoming. "Take a breather, Iris. You're freakin' the girl out."
Realizing what she was doing, she gasped and promptly apologized. "I-I'm so sorry. It's just...I've never met someone so beautiful before. If I had, I would definitely remember."
"Oh, um...thank you, Iris," (Y/n) shyly replied.
"Pretty sure you've met (Y/n) before, Iris," Noctis stated. "But you've never seen her human form until now."
"That name..." Iris' voice trailed off before her eyes widened. "You're really (Y/n)? That little bundle of white fur is you?"
She nodded. "Y-Yes."
"Oh, wow. This is... You look amazing!" She praised. "I never imagined you were this pretty. I mean, I imagined you to be a little more than average, but I am blown away!"
The guardian did her best to analyze her appearance. Without a mirror, it was difficult to examine her entire body. She glanced down at her dress before lifting her head. "I really don't see what's so special about me."
"You're kidding, right?" Prompto spoke up. "You didn't notice all those people staring at you when we first got here?"
"And not just here. Wherever we go, people stare at you," Noctis added. "Can't believe you haven't noticed."
That's when (Y/n) started to worry. "Am I drawing too much attention to us? If that's the case, I can always change forms and-"
Gladio held up his and silenced her. "Slow your roll, munchkin. We drive a super fancy car that already sticks out like a sore thumb anywhere we go. With you taggin' along, no one even looks twice at Noct."
Noctis glanced at his shield with a scowl. "Am I supposed to be offended by that?"
"Take it as you will, Highness." Gladio focuses his gaze back on his sister. "Putting all that aside, when you have time we have catching up to do."
Iris nodded. "Sure. I've got time now if you guys do. We can talk in my room." She leads the group of five up the stairs and into one of the many hotel rooms. As they got comfortable, they were joined by an old man and a young boy. Gladio easily recognized the two. "Jared and Talcott! Is it good to see you."
Talcott smiled sweetly as he addressed the member of royalty among them. "Prince Noctis! Iris is safe with me!" You could tell the young boy admired Noctis just by the gleam in his eyes.
Jared patted Talcott on the shoulder, smiling apologetically to the prince. "Please excuse my grandson. He has yet to learn his manners."
Noctis smirked. "I like it."
The older man lowered his head in a slight bow. "Your Highness is very kind, but we shan't impose. A very good night to you, Your Highness." Taking his grandson with him, he left the room so the group could talk. Iris closes the door behind them as they leave before taking a seat alongside the others.
Noctis was a little hesitant to ask, but he wanted to know some details of the invasion. "So Iris, what was it like inside the Crown City?"
Iris winced slightly as she remembered the day of the signing clearly. "Not pretty. The Citadel took a beating. But a lot of outlying neighborhoods made it through in one piece."
Ignis' eyes narrowed as he gazed at the carpet. "The empire had tactical targets in mind."
"If they incapacitated the Citadel from the inside, it would make it difficult for the crownsguard and Kingsglaive to deploy," (Y/n) said.
"Think they had a man on the inside?" Gladio wondered.
"A possibility we cannot dismiss," Ignis stated.
Iris glanced around at the dejected faces of the group. She clasped her hands together in her lap and focused her gaze on Noctis. "You know if there's anything else, you can ask me."
Noctis lifted his head, slightly taken aback. "Yeah, uh, thanks."
"So...about Lady Lunafreya. I keep hearing she was in town. Apparently she left right away, but at least it means she's okay."
The prince wasn't sure how to feel about Lunafreya. He wasn't sure if she was alive or dead and he was worried about her. However, Iris' words did provide a small amount of relief. "Good to hear. Thanks."
Iris then stands, brushing off her skirt. "Yeah, well, get a good night's rest." She then leaves the room.
Ignis stood up as well. "I shall procure rooms for us."
(Y/n) glances at him. "That was plural."
"I shall ensure you get your own personal room, (Y/n). It would be ill-suited for a lady to remain in a room with four men."
She watched him leave the room, blinking in surprise. She uncrossed her legs with a huff. A grin tugged at the corners of Gladio's lips. "You seem disappointed."
"No, just surprised. We had no issues sharing a room in Longwythe or Galdin Quay. What's changed?" She pondered.
"You think it has to do with the fact you spend more time in your human form than your spiritual one now?" Prompto asked.
"Or maybe Iggy wants you to have your own room so he can make a surprise visit to you in the middle of the night," the brute said.
She glowered at him. "Why do you think Iggy would have an ulterior motive?"
Gladio looked away, trying to act innocent. "No reason."
Her eyes scrunched up in an accusing manner. "You know something that I don't."
He shrugged his shoulders. "Maybe I do, maybe I don't. But it's not my place to tell. Hopefully us guys can snap some sense into his uptight ass and get him to tell you."
(Y/n) wanted to question him further, but held herself back as Ignis returned. She accepted the key he offered her and read the number attached to it before heading to her room. It was only a few doors down from Iris' room. She entered the room and looked around. There was a small couch, a coffee table, and a double bed with a nightstand beside it. It was decent, but she felt lonely. Why had Ignis suddenly wanted her to have her own room? Was it really because she's been spending more time in her human form like Prompto said or was there another possibility?
Her shoulders sank while trudging towards the bed. She sat down on the edge with a huff of frustration at her busy thoughts. She pushed them aside by remembering the intimate moment she shared with Ignis earlier that day. It was nice to be in his arms, a sensation she's enjoyed ever since he first hugged her when he was only five years old. As the years passed, the hugs became scarce in number due to his duties to the crown. He became more prim and proper, meaning casual hugs were deemed inappropriate. She had watched the boy grow into a man, his personality changing from sweet and caring to reserved and stoic.
Of course, he had his moments where he would show her how much he cared about her. Those were few and far between. However, that somewhat changed after they left the city. Even with Noctis as his first priority, his time with her had grown as if they had reverted back to their younger years. It brought a smile to her face, but it quickly vanished. She wanted to be his first priority. Was it a selfish thought? Perhaps.
Hanging her head, she hid her face behind a curtain of (h/c) tresses. She mentally scolded herself for thinking in such a manner. All she wanted was Ignis to love her with all his heart just as she wanted to do the same for him. But there was another thing stopping her-their roles. She was his guardian and he was her master. Was it appropriate for a human and spirit to be together?
That's when her eyes gleamed with hope as she recalled Jasper and Luca. They were clearly in love with each other and are engaged. She lifted her head and glanced out the window, coming to a decision-she would meet Luca tomorrow and discuss how he and Jasper overcame such obstacles or if it was only her self-doubt that prevented her from confessing her feelings.
(Y/n) was pulled from her thoughts when she heard a knock on her door. She went to answer it and saw Prompto was visiting her. Noticing he was alone, she wondered what he wanted. "Is there something I can do for you, Prompto?"
"You're gonna join us for dinner, right?" He asked.
Checking the time on the clock located on the nightstand, she saw it was a few minutes past five. "I didn't realize it was that late already."
Prompto grabbed her hand with a smile. "C'mon, the guys already left to make sure we get a table."
(Y/n) was taken aback at the sudden sensation of his hand on hers. "Prompto, your hand."
He looked down at their connected hands and blushed. He had unconsciously grabbed hers. "S-Sorry..."
She couldn't help but admire how kind and gentle he was. In order to smooth over the situation, she offered him a gentle smile. "It's fine. Let's go."
They left the Leville and headed to Surgate's Beanmine near the main thoroughfare. Noctis, Gladio, and Ignis were sitting at one of the tables and had already ordered for everyone. The eatery was packed and only a couple tables were left vacant. Sitting in between Noctis and Ignis, (Y/n) glances across the table when Gladio kicked her lightly in the foot. "Took your time, munchkin."
"I was thinking about a few things and didn't realize how late it was," she explained.
He took a brief glance at Ignis before looking back at her. "Like what?"
"Luca. I want to help him with his dream project. Spirits could use a good reputation. I also want to warn him about the empire."
"Y'know, all the people I've talked about guardians with adore them," Prompto said. "I can't believe people discriminate against your people, (Y/n)."
She crossed her legs, placing her hands gently in her lap. "I can't even imagine what it's like to be a masterless spirit in a society like this. It must be very difficult for them to live normal lives."
"Oh, yeah. Specs mentioned that rite of annulment," Noctis chimed in.
"I do hope I did not overstep my bounds," Ignis said, glancing toward the girl sitting beside him.
She shook her head. "Not at all. The rite of annulment has been used in both good and bad ways. Guardians have undergone the ritual to escape their abusive masters and humans have used it to get rid of their guardians. If the threat of corruption wasn't high, it's possible the rite wouldn't be so bad."
"What's this corruption you're talkin' about?" Gladio pried.
"Masters act as buffers for guardians when it comes to mana flow. If a guardian cannot control the flow, it builds up in their body and they soon lose themselves. Some spirits have massacred humans in such a state, but most of the time they commit suicide once it's too overbearing. A guardian's risk of corruption goes down if their master is still alive. But once that soul vanishes from Eos, the risk of corruption is extremely high. There are spirits who have learned to cope through the madness to keep their minds intact while others have never suffered from corruption."
"Okay, yeah, none of the books I've read mention any of this..." Prompto mumbled.
"Neither do the vast collections I've perused," Ignis said.
(Y/n) stared down at the table. "Not everything is written down in books or documents. If the rite was vastly known, I fear my people's reputation would be even more soiled."
"Let's just hope Luca doesn't know about it," Gladio stated. "And if he does, he'll leave it out of his book."
Their food arrived as their conversation ended. (Y/n) stared thoughtfully at her serving of bird-broth rice with curry before picking up her spoon to enjoy the meal. She listened to Noctis and Prompto as they exchanged playful banter while eating.
Once everyone was finished, they left the eatery and headed back to the Leville. As they passed through one of the alleyways, a disembodied voice reached (Y/n)'s ears. He body became stiff while listening to it.
Come...of Pneuma... Heed...call... Costlemark...altar...
A strange sensation overtook her body. Feeling a trance consume her mind, she no longer had control of her body. Listening to the voice, she wandered aimlessly down another alleyway and wound up separated from the boys. Unaware of her surroundings, she was heading straight for the road.
As she was about to step off the curb and into the street, the sound of a blaring horn bounced off the buildings, but it didn't snap her out of her trance. It was only when someone grabbed her arm and pulled her to safety before she was hit by a car that caused the trance to fade. The sensation of hands on her cheeks resulted in her to blink a few times. Her vision cleared and all she could see was a pair of familiar emerald eyes behind a pair of glasses. As the faint ringing in her ear ceased and she could hear the sounds of the bustling town, she realized Ignis was her savior and was trying to get her attention.
"(Y/n), can you hear me?" Ignis asked as her slitted pupils narrowed.
She looked around as best as she could and saw Noctis, Gladio, and Prompto standing behind him. "What happened?"
"I was hoping you'd clarify."
"Weren't we on our way back to the Leville?" She asked.
Prompto stepped forward. "You...don't remember what just happened?"
"No."
"You just suddenly walked off. We tried to get your attention, but you weren't listening. You wandered out into the middle of the street and was almost ran over by a car. Luckily Specs saved you before you were flattened," Noctis clarified. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine." (Y/n) took a step back when Ignis removed his hands from her cheeks. All she could remember was hearing the voice and then they were standing by the side of the road. "Maybe I just need some more sleep."
"You looked like you were in some kinda trance," Prompto said.
Ignis examines her face and noticed she looked sickly. "You've become pale. Let us make haste back to the hotel."
"Need a piggyback ride, munchkin?" Gladio offered.
She shook her head. "No, I can walk."
Ignis placed an arm around her shoulders and escorted her back to the Leville. He took her to her room and asked her to sit down on the bed. When she did, he kneeled down in front of her and took her gloved hands in his own. "What truly happened tonight, (Y/n)?"
"I-I honestly don't know, Iggy," she answered sincerely. "I heard that voice again and then realized we were standing by the road. I did feel something come over my body, but I don't know what. I'm sorry..."
Ignis raised one of his hands and caressed the back of his fingers against her cheek. "You need not apologize, darling."
She was shocked at hearing the term of endearment, but welcomed it. "I just hope visiting Costlemark will resolve this and put an end to the voice."
He removed his hand from her face and gazed deeply into her sapphire eyes. He loved how they sparkled just like the gemstones in his necklace. It was like getting lost in the ocean. "Will you be all right by yourself tonight?"
"Yes. I'll probably turn in early after a shower."
"If you need me, you know where I'll be. Please, do not hesitate to call upon me."
She smiled gratefully. "Thank you. Good night, Iggy."

The Alibi: Chapter 2
A continuation of the the wee fic inspired by the kiss prompt: A + B are in an argument, then they stop, just stare at each other, and then crash their lips together, because, like i said... fuck this shit Ross and Demelza (Requested by the lovely @veryflowerobservation)
______
Ross woke just a little after 9AM. He’d pulled the thick curtains the night before--it had been dark then so the gesture had been solely for privacy. The morning light was largely blocked, save one stubborn sliver that succeeded in illuminating a patch of carpet in front of the bed.
He looked over at the sleeping woman beside him. Demelza faced the wall and had failed at fully covering her body with the hotel bed sheets, and as a result her glorious back and the very top of her bum remained exposed. She might have been turned away from him but that didn’t mean she had given up on him. He knew he could sidle over and press himself close to her, and that she’d receive him warmly, eagerly. She’d made her feelings quite clear.
It had been a complicated night--and yet so easy. To finally be with her after so many years of constant companionship. Yes, they’d had years of steady loyalty to one another but he could see now that their friendship the last few months had been fraught with unresolved tension, overpowering attraction, and something deeper still. It hadn’t been one sided, only he’d somehow been blind to it all until the truth hit him like a cricket bat to the head as she yelled at him in the dark car park. Then he’d kissed her and it was as if he’d always known.
And as they lay together, in between feverish bouts of love making, they tried to make sense of what had just happened. They didn’t talk about the near-miss with the cops or Trencrom’s betrayal, just the sudden, seismic shift that occurred between them. And what it meant.
He was glad that she’d been able to say what he too felt, since he’d never be articulate enough to find the words or have the presence of mind to speak them.
She knows what I’m thinking before I even speak. No wonder she saved my neck last night, he thought to himself with a soft laugh. Yet somehow he knew not to take that for granted. She was her own person and he’d have to work harder to demonstrate his respect for her. No, respect sounded such a cold and clinical word and hardly sufficient. He revered her, he admired her, he was captivated by her, he desired her…
His thoughts never reached their logical conclusion of what all those separate emotions added up to because she exhaled a long sigh and he could resist touching her no more. He ran the backs of his fingers down her spine, then along the gentle curve of her hip, and up to her breast.
She turned to him with a smile, her eyes struggling to open.
“You tryin’ to wake me, Ross?” she asked. Her voice was sleepy, raspy in an innocently sexy sort of way.
He pulled her closer at once and kissed her eyelids, in a tender attempt to keep them closed. He felt a strange sensation in his stomach, not just butterflies but a whole swarm of wings fluttering up, perhaps to carry off his heart. His hands gripped her upper arms--the same arms that seemed destined to deck him yesterday seemed warm and reassuring now.
“No, stay asleep. It was an exhausting night--you earned a lie-in.” He kissed her lips now. Her eyes remained closed but her mouth opened wide to receive him.
How could he have ever considered himself alive before he knew that kiss?
He realised he’d sighed like a love-drunk school boy but he had no shame.
“Yes, it was exhaustin’,” she laughed, “but are you referrin’ to the events before or after we went to bed?” She put her hand to his rough cheek.
He laughed too, as though he’d caught the urge from her, like a yawn or a sneeze.
Ross had no business being so happy. His world was crumbling around him--he’d most likely lose his business and the police’s interest in him had not yet been resolved. And yet...
Yet those things mattered little. Was that really what his world consisted of? Because being with Demelza, loving her and being loved, that seemed a most significant triumph.
“Demelza, I meant everything I said last night.” He’d grown serious again.
“I seem to recall it was me doin’ all the talkin’ and you said a lot of ‘me too’...” she laughed.
“Okay, I meant everything you said,” he teased back.
“You sure about that Ross? Because I also called you stubborn and stupid…”
“And ‘an absolute arsehole’ don’t forget…” he added and rolled on his back with a chuckle.
“Oh Ross,” she said. “I didn’t mean those things…”
“Yes, you did--because I am. Maybe not ‘absolute’ but I can admit I’m ‘somewhat’ of an arsehole…”
She kissed his chest before resting her head lower on his belly. “Then you are my favourite somewhat arsehole, Ross,” she said.
“And you are the most meaningful person in my life…” he said, reaching out to touch her soft hair.
“Thank you for sayin’ that,” she said softly.
“Those were your words, Demelza. So thank you,” he said and pulled her up again so she was level with his head on the pillow. He stroked her cheek and looked into her eyes. They blazed with an intensity he’d come to know well over the last few hours together.
He wanted nothing more than to spend the day with her bare body wrapped around him, with inspired caresses, endless kisses. Even the ancients knew that nothing succeeded at keeping troubles at bay--or at least out of mind--like the pleasures of physical love.
But just then the telephone rang--a rapid string of jarring bleeps loud enough to be heard in the next room. The only person who knew they were there was Jinny Martin.
Good god, was her night shift not over yet? Shit hours for a single mum with two small children. Hoping he hadn’t made trouble for her, Ross switched on the lamp and picked up at once.
“Sorry, Ross. The police are here and want to ask some questions. I told them to wait and I’d call you down but they’re on their way up.”
“Thanks for the warning,” he said and rang off.
“What is it?” Demelza sat up in alarm and watched Ross furiously pull on his trousers “Ross?”
“It’s the police, they’re here. Apparently they want to ask me some questions...” He tried to sound calm.
“But how did they know where you were? What can this mean?” she cried and reached for her knickers.
“I don’t know. It seems so unlikely they’d find me...but stay in bed, Demelza,” he said and switched the lamp off again. “Pretend you’re asleep and don’t get up unless I call to you.” His voice was firm but gentle. He wanted to reassure her, to convince her he had a plan--though he most certainly did not.
He hadn’t fully buttoned his shirt when the knock came. It hadn’t sounded aggressive or urgent--was that a good sign? Or was Ross just reading too much into this?
“Just a minute,” he called gruffly, trying his best to sound as though he’d only just been roused. He put his fingers to lips and at his signal Demelza rolled over on her side facing the wall again. This time she had the covers pulled snugly up to her chin.
Ross ran his hands through his hair so it stood even more on end, then exhaled before he opened the door. He blinked his eyes at the glare of the hall light. It hadn’t been an act but added a convincing touch.
“Sorry to bother you, sir. I’m PC Pendarves, and this is PC Bunt, ” the taller constable said then he looked at his notepad, “Mr. Ross Poldark, is it?” He still had youthful spots on his face that were barely concealed by the sparse beard he was trying to grow.
Ross was confused by the question--surely they knew his name--wasn’t that why they were there? The constable didn’t seem sharp enough to be putting him on. But Ross’s bewilderment worked in his own favour--he didn’t look like a man who, for the past seven hours, had been expecting the police to call.
“Yes, what can I do for you?” Ross asked then glanced over his shoulder at the supposedly sleeping form just visible in the dark room. He pulled the door behind him so it was only open a few inches, and stepped into the hallway. “Sorry,” he whispered. “I don’t want to wake my...friend.” His hesitation at what to call her publicly was genuine but again fit tidily into his ruse. If Demelza and Ross were to have had a secret rendezvous, he’d hardly have announced it readily to the first person who knocked.
“Right, Mr. Poldark. Erm...the clerk said the other guest in the room is Demelza Crane?” This time it was PC Bunt, the squat bespectacled constable who spoke, trying not so subtly to get a peek at the woman in the bed.
“Carne,” Ross corrected. “Demelza Carne.” Instinctively he shifted his position to fully block any further view. “Do you need me to wake her…?”
“No, no sir. I don’t think so.” The first constable said and cleared his throat, seemingly embarrassed for his partner. Perhaps he wasn’t so young after all. “Yes, well, we’re making inquiries about a missing person.”
“A missing person?” Ross asked and hoped the relief wasn’t visible on his face.
“A Miss Rosina Hoblyn. Her father reported her missing day before last.”
“Oh?” Ross wondered why they were talking to him about this. “I’m not sure how I can help you…”
“We’re talking to all the guests with rooms facing the road,” Pendarves said as if reading Ross’s thoughts. “You see, a neighbour ‘cross the way, saw a young woman who fit Miss Hoblyn’s description last night right out in the street. A bit of a disturbance it was--she seemed to be having a row with someone. Then left in the same someone’s car.”
“On Church Road?” Ross twisted his brow as he took this in, an expression of questioning concern, which disguised his renewed panic at the presence of traffic cameras. No, he and Demelza had entered the hotel from the rear and were never even on Church Road.
“Yes, this happened right in front of the yoga studio,” Bunt offered, unable to hide his smirk that such an establishment had recently taken the place of a perfectly useful off-license.
“I’m afraid we heard nothing. We’ve…erm...” Ross paused. His sheepish expression was both genuine and well-played. “We’ve been in all night.”
“So you heard nothing? All night?” Bunt said. “This would have been around 11:30 PM?”
“Yes...I’m not sure what time we checked in. You can check at the front desk or I can wake Miss Carne…she might remember.” Ross took a chance here. It was better to be honest that they hadn’t even arrived until quite late.
“No bother, Mr. Poldark, if you didn’t see or hear anything of note outside the room,” Bunt said and laughed to himself, apparently amused by it all. He seemed to buy that Ross had other things on his mind the night before--perhaps he’d even been imagining the scene in his head.
“And the neighbours?” Ross took another chance here. “Did they observe…?” It would be good to know who was up last night and what they knew.
“Nah, they didn’t hear anything either. Okay, thanks for your time, Mr. Poldark. Here’s our cards if you or Miss Carne think of anything later…” PC Pendarves said and fumbled in his pocket before PC Bunt beat him to the punch and triumphantly handed over his own slightly crumpled business card.
“Of course,” Ross said and nodded politely. He waited until they began their retreat down the hallway before he slipped back into the room.
Even at the sound of the door closing, Demelza remained motionless, as though she was holding her breath. Without switching on the light, Ross snuggled next to her and buried his face in her hair.
“It’s okay,” he said softly. “They’re gone.”
She turned to him, and in the dim room he could see her eyes were wide--and wet.
“Demelza,” he said and wrapped her in his strong arms. “Don’t be scared. I’m still here.”
“I know, Ross,” she said bravely. “Tell me everythin’, I only heard bits. Is it true? The police are askin’ after Rosina Hoblyn?”
“You heard most of it then. Seems she’s missing--or so her dad says. I’m surprised he even noticed, the drunken lout that he is,” Ross said.
“Ross, did you tell them that you know Mr. Hoblyn? And you know her?”
“They didn't ask, and to be fair, I don’t really know Rosina—I know of her. I don’t think I’ve ever exchanged a word with her.”
“But Ross, you know she’s datin’ Charlie Kempthorne, don’t you? Or at least she was until recently. I think I just heard she broke it off with him.”
“I’d forgotten that. And it’s a connection I’m not happy to make. Ugh! I wonder what she was doing here in Truro?”
“And whose car she got into…” Demelza added.
“You heard the police say that as well?”
“Yes...Oh Ross, you don’t think Rosina could be in trouble, do you?”
“Well, if she is, at least the police are looking for her.”
“And not for you?”
“So it would seem…for now anyway.”
“Ross, I’m knackered as hell but my heart is racin’...I think we should go home.”
“I hate to say it, but I agree.” He kissed her lips, lingering for as long as he could, and dreading to pull away. “If you’re still tired later, we can take a nap together back at Nampara,” he suggested.
“No, Ross,” she said quickly. ”Remember we can’t be seen together.”
“What? That’s ridiculous,” he laughed. “The police now know we’re together and the whole point of you being my alibi is that people know about it…”
“Only some people--the right people at the right time. And we have to make it look like we want to keep it a secret. Otherwise why would we be out in the cover of night and sneakin’ off to a hotel in another town when we could just shag at your place or mine? Think about it, I mean, we both live alone…”
“I don’t. I have a housekeeper, remember,” he reminded her.
“Hmm...we have to decide if we tell Prudie, don’t we? No, maybe just leave some hints and clues. Better let her think she’s put two and two together on her own. She’ll probably start squawkin’ and she’ll want everyone to know she figured out our secret…”
“I don’t like this, Demelza. You know you’re not just my alibi, don’t you?”
“Yes, and I know you don't really think I’m ridiculous,” she said with a smile, reminding him of one of the insults he’d hurled at her the previous night that he’d repeated just now.
“But it is ridiculous that we’re together now…” he began.
“What?” she laughed and pretended to hit him.
“Let me finish.” He caught her hand in his and kissed her fingers.“We’re finally together, after months of idiocy…”
“Years,” she corrected him.
“Okay, years...and it’s ridiculous that we have to pretend to not be.”
“Not all the time,” she added.
“But to see you, to do this again,” he said, running their joined hands down her naked body, ”has to be secret? Or planned enough to seem secret? In any event I can't be with you freely, when I want, when we want. I think that’s going to destroy me.”
“No, Ross. Don’t you understand? It’s worth it to keep you safe--so we can be together. And it won’t be for long. As soon as this Trencrom business blows over, we can let the cat out of the bag.”
“Just so we’re clear, as much as I love the cat, I hate the bag. I hate it very much,” he said and laid his head on her chest.
“I know, Ross. Believe me, I want the whole world to know I’m yours.” She put her free hand to his head to play with his curls. A small gesture but one that moved him more than he expected.
“Me too,” he sighed, then not unpossessively put his hand on her hip. “And hopefully it will be over soon.”
“And no more Trencrom?”
“No more. We might be homeless and unemployed but…”
“Ross?”
“Never again. I promise you.”
----
DS Vage threw down his bacon sandwich with disgust when he saw PCs Pendarves and Bunt return from their door to door inquiries. He already knew what they’d say: No one saw anything, sir.
Oh, they'd swear they’d been thorough, but if they truly had, would they be back so soon? The door knocking, the questioning of witnesses--some of whom didn't even know yet that they were witnesses--that was real police work. And these idiots...what did they think the job was going to entail? High speed police chases? Suspects coming in willingly?
He glanced up at the photo of Rosina Hoblyn he’d pinned to the wall. She wasn’t a resident of his town but he’d be damned if she’d become a victim on his turf.
“Okay...what did you find?” he asked with a sigh.
“That yoga bird, she’s something, isn’t she?” Bunt laughed then turned serious when he saw his boss’s expression. “No sir, I mean Miss Rebecca Ellery said the same thing to us in person that she’d reported over the phone.” He looked in his notebook to get the exact words. “A young woman, blonde curly hair--dye job but with good low lights, approximately 5’4…”
“Oh come on,” Vage said with a groan. “That’s a bit specific, isn’t it? Did you question her on that? Did she tell you what shade of hair dye was? Icy Platinum or Natural Ash Blonde #004? Could she tell you what salon she’d been to?” he asked sarcastically. “And really...five four exactly?”
Everyone these days thought they knew it all. It came from watching too many police procedurals on the telly.
“No sir, I mean yes, sir,” Pendarves quickly interrupted. “Miss Ellery explained that she’d been a hairdresser before she opened the yoga business and it was her...erm ‘stock and trade’, she said. And she says she’s five four herself and this other woman was standing next to the lamp post under that rude graffiti so she could get a sense of her height. She also said she’d complained about the graffiti but no one has responded to her…”
“Alright...go on,” Vage said reluctantly.
“Yes, so the young woman was shouting at a man...Miss Ellery thought he was a man but she wasn’t sure how she knew it--she said that herself…”
“So this other person ?”
“Miss Ellery didn’t get a good look so she couldn't even say hair colour but they-him or her-- remained in the driver’s seat of a lime green Vauxhall Astra GTC.” Bunt was apparently very proud of himself for keeping an open mind about the driver.
“She was specific about the make and model of the car?” Vage raised a brow.
“Yes, she was, sir,” Bunt nodded. “And the lime green colour--she said it looked ‘super douchey’.”
Maybe Ellery was a reliable witness after all, Vage thought to himself.
“Okay, then the girl shouted something to the driver that sounded like ‘You’re a dickhead and you deserve what’s coming for you…’ But he--sorry, the person--didn’t say anything back, least not loud enough that Miss Ellery could hear from her window above the studio. But this person must have said something because Rosina...erm I mean the blonde girl, stopped shouting and got into the car...”
“Just got in? Signs of any coercion?”
“No physical force according to Miss Ellery. Do you think she knew the driver?” Pendarves asked.
“It’s possible…” Vage said.
“Then the Astra drove away north on Church Road,” Pendarves added.
“We’re checking the CCTV,” Bunt said quickly.
Bloody idiot. Of course the CCTV would be checked--DS Vage had already put in a request himself.
“And the neighbours?” he asked. He wanted to hear about the rest of their morning’s work.
“Only three residential flats on the east side of the road,” Pendarves explained. “One just above Miss Ellery--and they’re in Spain for the month. Another, number 74--Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel Stephens heard some noise around 11:30 but it had stopped by the time they went to the front window--their bedroom is in the rear, you see. They saw nothing, closed the window, and went back to bed. Number 78, was Mister Bart Maddock, who openly admitted he’d been high--he said that--to the police!--and he was painting so he was ‘oblivious’ to what was happening on the street.”
“Painting? Like walls?”
“Naw, he’s an artist,” Pendarves explained. That place is sorta a loft, big flat for just the one person but mostly taken up by what he called a ‘studio’. Two studios on one street--never knew so many arty types had moved in.”
“Rents will rise as a result,” Vage grumbled. “Okay and the hotel, the Star and Garter?”
“Three guest rooms faced Church Road. Ground floor is the pub, closed at 11 of course…”
“Of course…”
“Proprietor and night desk clerk heard nothing but their offices are in the rear. The rooms are all on the next floor up. Older woman at the end of the hall took her hearing aids out so she heard nothing and the couple next to her put their baby down to sleep just after 8, then fell right asleep themselves after that.”
“Poor sods. That’s family life, isn’t it?” Vague sighed.
“The couple nearest the stairs though…” PC Bunt let out a chuckle.
“Well? Yes?”
“They were busy shagging all night…”
“Aw c’mon, Bunt…” Pendarves groaned.
“What?” Bunt objected to being called out. “The man said as much as said himself! According to him, they were in all night and were ‘otherwise occupied’ so they heard nothing.”
“Nothing? Great…” Vage sighed.
“Lucky bastard, that one. I got a glimpse of the friend waiting in his bed,” Bunt chuckled then he saw his boss was not amused by tales of him leering at sleeping women.
Dance of Life, Vage was thinking. All the stages of love and life on one hallway. First there’s early love and passion, then settling down and starting a family, finally you’re old and alone. And behind which door is my life lived these days?
He really didn’t consider himself old, though he knew his colleagues did, especially the newly minted constables like these two. At least he was still fit and had all his hair--and his hearing. Could he still be considered a family man though? His own children were grown and far from home. He missed them but not the sleepless nights of teething and ear infections, or even the teenage years when they proclaimed how much they hated him right before they asked him for the car keys and 20 quid.
And door #1? He could barely remember the days of needing that sort of urgent and exhausting sex, but he’d certainly been there in his younger days, with his Tina. What a looker, she’d been. Blonde, curvy, with those great legs. His Tina who was no longer his--she’d left him right after their youngest went off to the army. He should have known she was slipping away from him when she’d switched her hair colour from Natural Ash Blonde #004 to Icy Platinum.
“Okay, and you got names and contact information of all these witnesses--or ‘not-witnesses’ as the case may be?”
“Yes, we got names,” Pendarves said quickly. He had not in fact gotten contact information but assumed he could request it from the hotel at a later time if really necessary.
“Deaf bird was…” Bunt began reading from his notepad again.
PC Pendarves coughed and shot him a look.
“Hearing impaired guest,” Bunt started over, “was Elizabeth Triggs from St. Just, the family with the baby were the Tregeagles--Benjamin and Sarah, didn’t catch the baby’s name…”
“Also Ben...Benny they said,” Pendarves added. “From Falmouth.”
“Right,” Bunt said, “and our ‘sex’ couple was Demelza Carne--we didn't talk to her, she was asleep--and Ross Poldark.”
“Wait a minute,” Vage said, a bell ringing somewhere in the back of his mind.
“Sorry sir. Thought it was respectful to let her sleep. Should we have talked to her?” Pendarves asked.
“No, that’s quite alright. But did you say the man was called...Ross Poldark?”

BAKUGOU’S MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
Ep. Warnings: cursing, blood, DADZAWA, tiniest bit of angst, Kinda Short Again : P
Summary: Bakugou and Y/N have made up and have gotten much closer. Y/N still isn’t completely sure what they are yet, but that thought will have to be put on the back burner since Shigaraki has a job for her. But what happens on that job is what makes this part interesting.
Pt.1 Pt.2 Pt.3 Pt.4 Pt.5 Pt.6 Pt.7 Pt.8 Pt.9
All day, you and Bakugou were together. Talking, laughing, just doing whatever. Almost like a couple. Quick kisses here and there and long hugs quite often. It even got to the point where they were constantly cuddling. Mind you, this all happened in just a day. Speaking of which, at the end of it, Bakugou went back to Y/N’s room and they fell asleep together.
*Beep* *beep* *beep* *click!*
You woke up to the glorious sun, shining it’s golden rays through your dorm window. It’s 6:00. Time to get ready for school. As you looked around in a strangely peaceful atmosphere, you found the reason why. Right next to you, layed a sleeping Katsuki.
You smiled at his peaceful state and took a moment to admire all of him. Bakugou chose to not sleep with a shirt due to his quirk, which gave you the benefit of laying eyes on someone who was truly built by the gods. His chiseled chest glowed under the solar rays and his abs were covered in scars from his past adventures as a UA student. Your eyes traveled to his face, where porcelain skin lay. His ruby eyes shut, as his long lashes curtain them. Your hands automatically went to his head, running your fingers through his surprisingly soft spiky hair. You giggled as you noticed it refused to lay calm, much like Bakugou himself. To your surprise, his deep morning voice spoke up.
“Can we just stay like this forever?” He smiled in his drowsy state. You jumped at his voice as he chuckled at your jittery behavior. Your hand had left his hair, much to Bakugou’s dismay, and so he brought it back to where it previously was. “I never said stop, princess.” He said as he attempted to drift off back to sleep.
“Heh, well I didn’t ask if you did. You gonna keep sleeping or you gonna get up and get ready for school?” You teasingly asked.
“You gonna keep petting my head?” Bakugou asked with his eyes still closed and a slight smile.
“No.”
“Then no,” he said as he woke up with a scowl and grumpy eyes. He sat up from his previous position and stretched his arms as he watched you get up and walk to your dresser. You grabbed your rebellious uniform before walking back to Katsuki.
“See you soon, okay?” You said and pecked his pouted lips. He replied with closed eyes, a smile, and a simple “mhm” as he got up and left to his dorm.
As Bakugou walked to his dorm, he tried to savor the feeling of your plush lips on his. He smiled at the recent memory. He walked back into his dorm and got ready, excited because he knew once he was done, he would get to see you again. As Bakugou finished and left, he walked to your dorm and found you and Rumor shutting the door, ready to go. He walked to your side and held onto your waist.
“Ready to go?”
“Mhm!”
You both walked and talked until you reached class, as you opened the door and walked in, everyone saw you and cooed.
“Ouuu~ whats this Bakugou?” Sero asked in a playful manner. Bakugou just rolled his eyes but continued to hold onto you.
“Is she your girllllfriendddd?” Kaminari teased. The whole class giggled at the cute little POSSIBLE couple. It was adorable. Who would’ve guessed the ruthless and “dedicated to being number 1 only” Bakugou would have fallen for someone. They continued to laugh until Bakugou spoke.
“Maybe she is, morons. Is there a problem if she is?” He asked with piercing eyes, causing the group to shut up. “Good.” He said as he sat down in his seat and placing you in his lap. You guys had a couple minutes before class started so it would work out just fine.
As the group continued to talk, a deep voice was heard throughout the room.
“Are you going to continue holding my daughter hostage in your lap, Bakugou? Or are you gonna let her take her seat?” The group looked towards the door and saw their teacher, Mr. Aizawa, standing in the doorway. Everyone, besides Bakugou, Y/N, Kaminari, and Kirishima, gasped at the revelation of Y/N being Aizawa’s daughter.
Bakugou sighed as he let you go to his seat, which was right next to him, and looked towards his teacher. “Happy?”
“Very.” Aizawa replied.
“You know, for the record, you aren’t my real dad.” Y/N clarified.
“Correct, but I adopted you. Which legally makes you my daughter. So listen to your dad and hush!” He said with glowing red eyes which made you quiet down with a huff. You placed your head in your hand as you blew a strand of hair out of your face.
‘He’s probably gonna mention the competition tomorrow,” you thought to yourself.
“Alright class, to begin let me tell you about a battle competition we’ll be having next week.” He said.
‘Next week?’ You were confused. What happened to tomorrow? This would throw off the league’s plans, which surprisingly, you were kind of okay with.
“It was supposed to be tomorrow, but we caught word of a few villains figuring out about the event so the school rescheduled it to a different time at a different location,” Mr. Aizawa began, “the competition will be a battle of schools. Class 1-A and B will be attending. Each class will be its own team. You guys will do something similar to a race but depending on the routes and turns you take, you will end up facing a challenge or fighting an opponent aka a different school’s class. The race is over when a class gets to the finish line and rings a bell. Winners get a week off from all work.” He explained.
The class cheered in excitement at the event coming up and spoke amongst themselves about how they would prepare. You, however, were in minor distraught.
‘Villains? The only villains that could’ve know were the league. Did one of them slip up?’ You thought.
Mr. Aizawa refocused the class and began the lesson. Blah, blah, blah, quirks, blah, blah, blah, law, blah, blah, blah, heroes. The usual. Except this time, you payed a little attention. Hero work did interest you but there was no way it was possible for you. You were already in too deep with villainy, so you just sat in self pity as you listened to the lecture.
At the end of the class, Aizawa pulled you aside to talk. He said he had a few things he wanted to ask you.
“Y/N..” he said.
“Eraser-Head..” you replied. He rolled his eyes at the name.
“It’s Mr. Aizawa, or Aizawa sensei, or even dad!” He complained but this time you rolled your eyes.
“Alright then, DAD, what do you want?” You asked.
“I just want to know what’s going on with you and Bakugou. You’ve gotten awfully close. Kissing in the kitchen, sitting on his lap. Are you dating that boy or what?” He questioned you, and to be honest, you couldn’t really answer. What exactly was your relationship with Bakugou? You weren’t dating, that wasn’t established, but you guys weren’t just friends. This was all so confusing. Still, you couldn’t give the man a straightforward answer.
“Even if I was, it’s none of your concern.” You said with a puffed chest and total confidence.
“It is my concern as your now father.” He said. “I just want to know. I’ve seen some improvements since you came here.....I’m proud of you.”
This shocked you. It threw you off and your body basically deflated from its once confident state. He was proud of you. Words you’ve longed to hear from somebody..anybody, and you finally got to hear it. It almost made you tear up but you had to stay composed.
“Proud of me? For what?” You asked with a little sass and attitude. Gotta keep up your bad girl rep, you know?
“Proud of you for choosing to come here in general. You made a good choice. You’ve benefitted yourself in all the right ways. You’re going down a path of greatness, I can see it. I’m also proud of the friends you’ve made and how open and social you’ve become. It makes me glad knowing that you’re coming out of that dark spot you were stuck in for so long. And it seems that having Bakugou around really helps.” He explained.
The whole thing almost brought you to tears. A father figure was proud of you. He knows your past and who you are and he was proud of you. It’s like a dream come true. You were so stunned, you could barely speak.
“Yeah...Umm..thanks.” You began. “Well! If that’s all..I have to get to lunch. I’ll see you around,” you said as you blinked away the tears gathering in your eyes and began to walk to the door.
“Y/N...if you’re ever struggling, you can come talk to me about anything. I’m your teacher and dad now, so I’m always here to help.” He offered. You looked back at him with a kind face before speaking.
“Thank you..”
‘...Dad,’ you thought to yourself as you let out a small smile and walked to the cafeteria.
——————————————————————————
The day went on as usual and when school and training was finally over, you and Bakugou got to spend more time together! You don’t know what it was but being around each other just made each other feel more..complete.
After school, you guys took a fly around the city on Rumor, stopped for some ice cream, and went to play with puppies at the local shelter. By the time you guys got back, dinner was being prepped in the kitchen, so you guys had some time to kill. You both decided it was cool to just hang out in your room.
“Hey, I’m gonna change real quick and I’ll meet you there, okay?” Bakugou said, pointing to the area of his dorm.
“No problem!” You said as Bakugou leaned down and pecked your lips before leaving. You smiled as he walked away and looked towards Rumor who had to be giving you some type of smirk. “Shut up,”
When you both walked in to the room, you changed out of your school uniform and opted for something more comfy. Before you sat down in bed, your earring went off. The league was calling.
“Y/N!...Can you hear me?!” Shigaraki said through the communication device. You ran to it in fear of displeasing your superior if you took too long.
“Right here. What happened?! What villain got caught speaking about the competition???” You asked in shock.
“It was Twice. Idiot can’t keep his mouth shut.” Shigaraki said as you heard Twice’s voice in the background saying it was an accident.
“Look, it doesn’t matter, because the events been cancel due to concern.” You explained.
“ARGHH, figures!” Shigaraki screamed, “look, I’m just here because I have a quick job for you. The others are out setting up our next attack so you’re the only one available.” He said.
“But- but I have something to do right now,” you said, hoping you wouldn’t have to go.
“Well drop it. You’re not getting out of this one. Besides, it’s simple. Get in and get out.” He said.
“..alright,” you didn’t know why. It wasn’t like this was your first job, but it made you want to cry.
“Good. All you have to do is get into heartfilia manner. Boss man, Jude Heartfilia, hired the league for a job offering big banks. He never payed up. All we want is revenge and you’re our best stealth fighter. So get in, kill the man, and get out. Oh! And grab his checkbook too, it’s signed off with his name already. Sounds like easy money. Okay?” He explained.
Kill. Kill. It wouldn’t be your first time. Heck, it wouldn’t even be your 100th time, but the thought of doing it again made you nauseous. However, denying a request from Shigaraki made you even more nauseous. You feared him. You didn’t know just how powerful you were so in your mind, you were the weakest link in the league. So with that in your head, you answered. “Okay.”
You looked towards Rumor in sadness. He seemed to have known what was about to transpire.
“Go get ready, Rumor. We have a job to do.” You said as you walked towards your closet to pull out your villain costume tucked in the back. What stopped you was your...whatever he was to you, walking in.
“Hey princess, I’m back! Miss me?” He said with open arms, closed eyes, and a cocky face, expecting you to leap into his arms. But nothing came. He opened his eyes and saw you near your wardrobe.
“K-Katsuki! Hey! Umm, I’m sorry, but something came up so I can’t really hang right now.” You explained while closing your dresser and walking towards him.
“Oh? What happened? Do you need some help?” He offered. Ugh, why did he have to care about you so much. It’s making things so much harder.
“Um, no. I’ll be good. I just remembered...Korra wants to speak to me. So..I’ll be heading out to talk to her for whatever she needs.” You lied. You felt so guilty lying right to his face but it had to be done.
“Mind if I joined you?” He asked.
“Um, yeah actually, I kinda do. It’s nothing personal, it’s just that these meetings between mentor and pupil are kinda..private. You know?” You asked. You could feel in your soul how furious Korra was that you were using her name to lie your way out.
“Okay, no problem. I’ll see you later?” He said hopeful. You couldn’t deny him that.
“Of course,” you said while giving him a tight hug and a peck on his cheek. Satisfied, he walked out of the room and off to wherever. You let out a sigh as you shut the door and locked it. “Okay Rumor, let’s go.”
——————————————————————————
Rumor was in giant hawk form as you sat on his back and you both were flying over the estate. You looked down and saw the place covered with security, however, there was a landing on the rooftop with a doorway inside. You had Rumor glide down there in silence and quickly tranformed back into Wolf-dog form mid air as you landed on your feet. You both quickly ran inside but not before knocking out the single guard standing inside.
Inside, you both were very cautious. The halls were surprisingly emptied. Nothing but a guard or maid here and there. When you finally found the master bedroom, you busted in and saw he wasn’t there. You scoped around, checked his private bathroom, and still got nothing.
“Rumor. Go into the closet and find some dirty laundry or something. Track his scent and then come find me.” You ordered and Rumor nodded in confirmation. You went back out into the halls and found his study. You walked in prepared to kill and get you still saw no one.
‘Where the hell is everyone?’ You thought to yourself.
You saw scattered papers laying on his desk as you approached the laying furniture. He must’ve been in a hurry if he left the place so disorganized. That or he’s always been a slob. You scurried through his desk and drawers and found his checkbook.
“Bingo. At least we found one thing.” You placed the check board into your pocket as you continued your search. You read through the papers on his desk and saw he had frantically signed a signature to book a place at the Inko Hotel right in Musutafu. Then your eyes went wide.
“.......He knew!” You said in shock. He knew the league would send an assassin. Right when you said that, Rumor came in and barked. He had his scent. You ran towards Rumor as he transformed into giant wolf form and hopped on him. He began to run not caring about the people he bumped in to. Security obviously noticed you all and began shooting at you. You turned around on Rumor’s back and used your metal bending to stop the bullets and send them back, killing others in the process. You cringed behind your mask at the sight but kept a strong facade as Rumor finally made it out. You jumped into the air giving him enough time to turn in a giant hawk again and fly off, picking you up mid-air along the way. You both flew off as fast as you could to the hotel where Rumor’s nose was taking you.
Once you arrived you entered the hotel through a back way entrance. You realized you would have to fit in so off came your black cloak and mask. You walked around in your villain costume that thankfully no one was suspicious of and followed Rumor’s nose. He sniffed the floor and followed Jude’s scent until he reached door 402. You noticed a guard standing by and so you used your charm to seduce the man. While he was distracted by the flirt, you surprisingly used your dim mak and paralyzed him from the neck down. You knocked him out and dragged him to a storage closet and returned to the room. You busted open the door and saw Jude laying there in his sleep. You shut the door and locked it. In case he woke up, you put your cloak and mask back on as you approached his unknowing body.
‘He looks so.....peaceful.’ You thought while watching him. ‘But I have to do my job...no matter how cruel,’ you reminded yourself. You reluctantly and shakenly used your air bending to create a sphere of wind around the man’s head. While maneuvering your hands you took his breath away, depriving him of oxygen and killing him in the process. You just killed a peaceful man in his sleep. As you came to that realization, you released a breathy sigh as you put your hands together to pray for him and allow his spirit to leave the world in respect.
Once you opened your eyes again, you noticed tears pricking at the ends. You hated this part of the job. Stealing and grifting was easy. But murder? That was a whole ‘nother level that made you want to scream. As you walked off with your head handing low, you left the building in a sadly successful job. On the journey back to UA, you called Shigaraki through the earring and told him of your mission results. He congratulated you on a job well done and asked for you to return the checkbook when they would later attack UA. Your face grew sour at the reminder that you’re all here just to create misery. What a pity.
You had noticed Rumor had gotten generously tired and so you opted to just walk instead of fly home. It wasn’t that bad and you needed to clear your head anyway. After walking for some time, you were close to the dorms but as you took a turn, you of course ran into....... Bakugou?!
Due to a quick reaction, Rumor had shrunk to a mouse and you were so thankful you wore your cloak and mask....YOU WORE YOUR CLOAK AND MASK!
“Woah! Hey! Watch we’re you’re-“ he cut himself off as he noticed your attire. He recognized you instantly. “You’re...Titania!”
Thankfully he wasn’t aware of who was under the mask. You picked up Rumor dashed off before anything else happened. But Bakugou being the hero he is, he chased after you.
“Hey! Get back here!” He said using his explosions to blast himself further and give him some speed. However, you had a few tricks yourself. You used your air bending and applied it to help with your running and give you a boost.
As the chase went on, you zig-zagged through alleyways and over city obstacles like trash cans and such. Bakugou was right on your tail...or so you thought. As you turned back to see if he was still behind, you saw nobody, and in the heat of the moment, you let your guard down. You allowed yourself to stop and just breath as you layed against a brick wall in the shadows but to your surprise Bakugou had tackled you to the ground from the side. Now he had you pinned down as he huffed closed to your face.
“You damn villain scum“ those words made you cringe behind your mask. He was right. Villain scum is what you are, but those words coming from Bakugou just made your heart hurt. “What the hell are you doing out here?!”
When he asked that questioned, you remained silent. He grunted as his eyes squinted in frustration. “Tell me!” He demanded.
As your head got back in the game, you kicked his groin and used some wind to push him back. Throwing him behind a pile of trash cans, you quickly used your fire bending to blast you into the air as Bakugou’s sight was blocked. You threw Rumor’s mouse form into the air as he transformed into a giant hawk and you both escaped before Bakugou looked back up to look for you. You successfully got away.
When you returned, you had Rumor go back to his mouse form to sneak into the dorms. You waited by the side as Rumor went to retrieve some clothes for you to change into on the side of the building. When he returned, you changed under your cloak and then hid it as you walked in with Rumor. You passed a few students but none seem to be suspicious of anything. You made it to your room and sighed in relief as you layed down but then, Bakugou of course barged in.
“You’re never gonna guess what the fuck just happened, Princess.” Bakugou said as he threw off his jacket and flopped on top of you. You let out a ‘Oof,’ and giggle as you began to pet his head. Yes, you felt guilty for what you did and were about to do but you had to. Right?
“What happened, Suki?” You confidently said. Bakugou slightly flinched as he looked up to you with a slight blush.
“Suki?” He questioned.
“Mhm! My new name for you. Cute right?” You happily said.
“M-mhm,” he said as he tucked his head away in your chest and blushed even more.
“So tell me what happened.” You said. He sighed before speaking almost as if he was frustrated.
“I was out walking after stopping by my parent’s place to drop something off and I ran into..Titania.” He explained.
“Titania?” You played dumb, “that top ranking villain?”
“Not just any top ranking villain. She’s the top and most wanted female villain out there. She’s bad news and I chased her down. Of course she got away though, can’t believe I thought I could take her down. Her skill level is insane. She’s had to have been fighting since she was probably our age or even younger.” He went on.
“You know her age?” You said with a slight panic. You didn’t want Titania’s anything to be revealed.
“With her skills, I’d bet she’s at least in her late 20s.” You were slightly flattered by the fact that Bakugou thinks you’re that powerful, but of course he didn’t know it was you. That was kind of disappointing though, he didn’t know who you truly were. Then you thought back to what he said. Villain Scum. If that’s what he thought Titania was, then when he found out who she really was, he would definitely have a thing or two to say about you. You saddened at that thought but wanted to change the topic after becoming slightly uncomfortable with the “news.”
“Don’t let it get to you. We are still hero trainees after all. We can only do so much. C’mon, let’s watch a movie and cuddle instead.” You offered to which he happily agreed. And so you both sat and just enjoyed each other’s presence and the movie. You were seated in Bakugou’s lap as you both sat on your bed just living in the moment. Bakugou would pepper you in kisses every now and then to which you laughed and happily accepted.
You loved the time you got to spend with Bakugou. It felt right whenever he was around. Your life was a hot mess but then he came and became your little getaway. He was a breath of fresh air to you and everything about him just made you smile. His presence made you happy, his smile made you swoon, his touch had you melting and his kisses were just...amazing. You guys weren’t an official couple, but you were something. And although it was confusing, that something was enough to fill your heart with all the warmth and love that you’ve been missing for the past 16 years of your life. The only question was...how long was it going to last before it all came crushing down?

In Your Hands [Peony to Lotus!Verse]
[@theleakypen *points accusingly* Look what you did! 😁]
[Second Chronological installment of the Peony to Lotus!Verse]
[First Installment] [Ao3 Series]
It starts small and slow, because Yanli asked and because A-Yao listens. It’s more delightful than she could have imagined, to shyly mention something and see it tucked away behind a smile. To have it come back later and set before her in reality.
She isn’t truly used to receiving a great many gifts--A-Cheng and Xianxian are men of action, showing love in hugs and favors and tucking her into bed when she is too tired or sick to do so herself. (Now she has 3 people who would do this. Sweet boys. How lucky is she?)
Usually, it’s her that brings the food they like, makes sure to tuck little notes into the folds of their clothes when they pack for a trip, brings back little knick knacks from the market that might make them smile. So, when she wakes alone in the crisp air of their bedroom and goes to do her hair for the day, she is startled to find a silver hair pin topped with a delicate metal lotus with tiny pink beads tucked in the petals that mirror the ones interspersed throughout the 2 trailing chains that dangle beneath it. There is no note, but it had been placed very obviously and precisely in the middle of her table. Yanli finds herself smiling as she picks it up and admires it, noting the fine, swirling engravings that etch down the stick itself. It’s a gift! For her!
She, of course, slides it into her wound hair and finds herself holding her cheeks as she grins at herself in the mirror and  turns this way and that, watching the little chains sway with her movement, clicking gently. The flush on her face matches the beads. It’s a little silly, she tells herself, to be blushing over a gift like this. He’s my husband! I’m already married!
There is still that giddy lightness in her chest that feels as though she will burst out laughing at any moment, like the morning sun has roosted in her heart.
Because it’s more than just the gift, of course. She and A-Yao had been chatting over tea one evening on the pavilion over the lake, listening to the night frogs and the fresh wind through the curtains and distant treetops. It had been very soon after their realization (their breakthrough, she privately considers it, the silly man, of course she cares for him, of course) and he had been watching her with warm eyes. “Jiang-furen,” he had said lightly, because it made her wrinkle her nose at the formality--and she had, and he had smiled. “Would you allow this one to court you?”
Oh.
‘I think I would like to try,’ she had told him, and with such confidence, too. Loving. And here they were, at the trying part. Complication had swelled within her chest like a tide, wanting and fear and a sudden shyness. The thrill of flattery and being wanted; the fear of ruining this, too, somehow, by too demanding. Unworthy.
The fear that she would not be able to...feel the right way. She had never been in love, not even the giggling, girlish love her friends had spoken of as children, nor had she ever understood the longing whispers of her shimeis and shijies when they saw the young men unloading the boats, sweaty and gleaming in the sun. She had been confused when her mother had lectured her on the importance and the virtue of staying out of the beds of men. It had just never seemed as difficult as anyone made it out to be. She had been prepared for the duties of a wife and a mother when she had agreed to marriage--both times--and had not meant to shy from it. It was the way things were. And she did want a child--several of them, actually.
And then had come A-Yao with his gentle understanding and his poor wounded heart and his telling her that she had no obligations and him, no expectations. And that secret part of her that had bound herself up tight in the waiting had breathed a sigh of relief and relaxed.
Now, within the bounds of marriage, she was being asked. Is it what she wanted, of them, with him. It was real and present with no barriers, time or otherwise. And she didn’t know. Because he was sweet and kind and she did not want any part of him hurt.
It had almost been easier when there had been a straight path she had been bound to walk with no option of deviating. Inevitable.
Oh, and she had been silent for too long, leaving him waiting and wondering. She had felt him go completely still across the table. Hurriedly, she moved her hand over to cover his, to quell any rising anger or misunderstanding, had opened her mouth to try to stumble through an explanation--
And his hand had covered hers. And he had waited. And she had loved him for it. His face was stiffer than she might like, his pleasant smile up, now, like armor against whatever he thought was going through her mind, but he allowed the time it took for her to gather this all up. “A-Yao…” she had begun and her throat had closed up and she had chastised herself for being a silly, stupid girl and making him wait, making him fear that she was saying no, because she wasn’t, she did want to try, for him, for her, because she could feel the first step in her heart of loving him in a way that was unlike A-Cheng and A-Xian, unlike her mother and father, but she couldn’t say exactly where or how far those steps would take her and she would never want to break a promise or get his hopes up and be unable to--unable to--
“A-Li,” he had said, polite shield of a smile disappearing, brow tucking into worry as her eyes filled with frustrated tears. “Have you...changed your mind?”
She shook her head quickly, mouth working and oh, why couldn’t she ever just speak?
“Are...you sure? You don’t....”
Yanli nodded, just as vigorously and she sniffed, trying to stem whatever this was. “I’m...Of course….Yes, of course, you can, I’ll....”
Hurriedly, he had risen to kneel beside her, below her, both his hands on hers, now, where they rested on her knees, face open and almost scared. “A-Li,” his tone had been urgent. “What do you think I’m asking you?”
Finally, finally, she had choked her way through an explanation, an apology, a promise to try to do better, to try to fix whatever incomplete love she was offering and his fingers had tightened over her own.
His voice had been rough. “I would never ask something of you that you’re not ready to give.”
“But...what if...I’m never ready?” she had managed in a watery whisper.
His answer had been as gentle as the breeze that brushed by them from across the lake, flickering the flames in the lanterns. “Then I will never ask.”
“Wouldn’t that be horribly selfish of me?” Her eyes had remained fastened on the rise and fall of his chest in his purple robes, unable to meet his gaze. She could hear her mother in her head, knew what she would say; yes. Selfish and childish and unrealistic. If Yanli could not cultivate, if she could not be strong or clever or useful, what on earth did she expect to be her duty to her family? Did she think she was special? Did she think that marriage was just easy for everyone?
“Why would it be selfish?”
When she gave a small, despairing laugh at what she assumed had been a joke, he had simply blinked at her. She had wiped her eyes. “Children, for one, A-Yao.”
Something distant had come over his eyes, the look he got when he was puzzling through a problem for A-Cheng on the spot and his tone was one of musing when he said,“If you wanted a child, I could get you a child.”
That laugh had burst from her in shock and some of the tightness in her chest lightened. “You’re as ridiculous as A-Xian. Is YaoYao 3, as well, with that sort of reasoning? Where do you think children come from? A roadside store?” Shaking her head, she had bopped the tip of his nose with the crook of her finger and tucked his already neat hair behind his shoulder, soothing herself, giving an excuse to be close to him.
He had smiled, slow and sleek, head tilting a little, saying, “Of course,” and nothing more. When he had simply waited patiently for her to stop fussing over his hair, she had taken his dear face in her hands and ran her thumbs over his cheeks.
“We’re here again,” she had noted and knew by the way his smile dimmed, slightly, and the softness that came back into his eyes that he, too, was thinking of their wedding night when they sat in this very same position; him at her feet, promising to take no more than what was offered; her holding him in fondness. She sighed and tilted her head in hopeless asking. “And what about a wife’s duty to her husband? The other part you’re promised.”
“Neither of our vows said any such thing. All I was promised was loyalty and support.” His voice had quieted further, and a tentative had hand lifted, and rested on her cheek, light as a moth’s wing. “Which you have given. I want to court A-Li because…” To her delight, his cheeks had pinkened slightly, and he looked young and sweet and oh, yes, she loved him as A-Yao--whatever that meant to her, she did. “Because I want to. I-I want to do it the right way, to please you, and bring you gifts and gain your favor. Because you deserve it.”
She had felt a warm curling in her throat, like tears, but not (loved! loved!) and she had smiled and hadn’t been able to help from leaning down and kissing his forehead, kissing the tip of his nose. Then, daringly, because she wanted to, she had brushed her lips over his and he had sat, hands carefully in his lap, still as a stone as she pressed them, warm and soft against hers. He smelled like the fragrant flower tea they had been drinking. “You already have my favor, ” she had murmured when she sat back from the chaste kiss, feeling her own face heat up as his had. Oh, as his was!
“If it…” he had started, almost staccato and slightly too loud, as if he had surprised himself and he pressed his lips together and made a face like he regretted it. But then he pushed out, almost in a rush. “If it makes you feel any better, I also wasn’t...looking forward to...that night. I...would have slept with you. If it was what you had required.” He took a breath and pressed his hands, chill in the night air, over the backs of hers on his face. “But, now, we can go as slowly or as far as only you desire. It is in your hands. I’m simply happy to have A-Li.”
Her heart felt as if it were the tail of some magnificent fish, fluttering and flashing around with a gleaming joy. She believed him. Knowing what she knew of his mother, of his father, and of how that rested in him like chains and blood and hurting, she believed every word. Safe. Safe to test, to try. To stop.
He was safety.
“One condition,” she had said, schooling her face to seriousness and warning so quickly, he must have known it was a jest.
He, in turn, however, didn’t make light, and only smiled, dimpled and almost completely real. “Name it.”
“I can court you in turn.”
At this, his face had dropped into blank startlement for a brief moment before a crooked little smile had hitched itself back on his face. That was real. She had been able to tell. “Of course,” he had agreed steadily. “Anything at all.”
And now, as she leaves their room with his first gift in her hair, she sees him down the walkway, slim and purposeful in his angling, talking to A-Xian about something. All at once, something mischievous and powerful skitters up from her stomach and down her arms like laughter and she straightens and glides like she was taught, a grin on her lips. A-Xian looks up first and grins back. Excitedly, he bounds up for her to stroke his cheek, which she does, still walking, still passing, and as she draws level, she gives a preening toss of her head, making the little beads of the pin click and flicks her eyes over.
A-Yao is watching her performance with eyebrows raised, eyes wide in surprised appreciation, fresh delight pressed behind his lips, making his whole face light. Like they are sharing a private joke. Like he thinks she’s beautiful and funny. His regard feels like lovely fingers combing through her hair and, beneath this silly posturing, she’s blushing all over again. “Husband,” she greets with exaggerated propriety, inclining her head. The chains sway in her peripheral vision.
He inclines his head back, smile wide and gracious. “Wife.”
She doesn’t break her stride, continuing her glide down the walkway, not looking back. She hears A-Xian say, “What the heck was that about?”
She is in earshot long enough to hear A-Yao laugh, quietly.

Diavolo makes MC wear his crown
Diavolo was in the middle of giving MC a tour of his palace. Her and the brothers were staying there for the weekend to celebrate Diavolo’s birthday. While the brothers were squabbling over who gets to share a room with whom, MC asked the Prince to learn more about the colossal building they were in.
Although Barbatos offered to show her around, Diavolo was more than happy to lead the tour himself. He thought it’d be the perfect opportunity to spend some time alone with his exchange student.
“This is the West Wing.” He spoke as they slowly strolled down the long hallways, “as you can see this is where my ancestors portraits are.”
“Where’s yours?” MC asked curiously as she admired the huge paintings that covered the walls.
“Still in my imagination.” He chuckled earning a confused look from MC, “my portrait won’t be done until I’m King. For now that demon there is the true ruler.” He spoke, pointing at a particular painting.
“Your Father.” MC examined closely.
“Correct.” He nodded with a smile, “Come, we don’t want to spend our evening looking at paintings of him.”
Placing his hand on her lower back, he led her into the throne room. “Wow” she breathed, gazing at the huge chairs opposite them, “You don’t need to tell me what room this is.” She laughed.
“Just you wait.” Diavolo smiled cunningly as he skipped over to a velvet curtain.
MC followed him, intrigued by what was hidden behind the drapes. Pulling on the gold rope to the side, a beautifully intricate crown was revealed, perched on a marble platform, “Diavolo...” she whispered as her eyes widened, “is that yours?”
“It will be.” He spoke smugly, carefully lifting it from the pillow it sat on, “Try it on.” He insisted, casually holding it out for her.
“What?!” She gasped, “Diavolo what you’ve got there is effectively the Crown Jewels, I cant just ‘try it on’.”
“Oh please, the only person who’d tell you off for it is me and I’m the one trying to get you to wear it!” He chuckled at her, “Go on. I’ll warn you though, it is heavy.”
“I’m not surprised.” MC scoffed as she watched him intently.
Lifting the magnificent jewels, he slowly lowered it onto her head, adjusting it to sit right. “Hm...” he studied with narrowed eyes, “a little big but it looks good on you.”
“It does?” MC asked surprised.
“Yes...” Diavolo pondered, “Perhaps I’ll have to have one made for you to wear beside me.” He grinned suggestively leaving MC completely speechless.
