Loki introducing Mobius to Thor:
“This is…my… Mobius” Mobius smiles sheepishly, cheeks reddened.
Thor tilts his head. “…your… Mobius.” and suddenly it’s Loki’s turn to blush.
Thor, every chance he gets—
“Hey Loki can you give this to your Mobius?
“Your Mobius needs to try Asgardian mead.”
“Everyone this is my sibling Loki and this is their Mobius”

A Fine Team
Part 1 of (N/A)
Summary: The reader and Loki are sent on a mission at an art gallery, their objective is to pose as husband and wife to gain entry into a hydra auction. The reader has been falling for their friend for some time now and doesn’t think that he could ever feel the same.
Pairing: Loki x Reader
Author’s Note: I’m thinking of making this a multi-part fanfic, not sure how long but I have a few ideas for the plot. I’ve never written any fan fictions like this before and I’m mostly trying to get back into the groove of writing again.
Word Count: 3,422
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The art gallery is filled with a warm glow of light. The walls are paneled with a dark wood and the floor is a shining marble that echoes with each step of heeled feet. There’s low classical music playing but no one is dancing. The guests are either too occupied by the exhibition or conversation with their peers. If you didn’t know better you wouldn’t even suspect anything abnormal about this event. Just a bunch of old money socialites viewing art they’re hoping to bid for in the auction later tonight.
Unfortunately for you, this is a mission, not a social event. Loki is not your date, holding you close against him as you view a landscape piece. He’s not whispering sweet nothings into your ear. He’s observing the people around you, and he’s playing a part. He is your mission partner, not a lovesick newlywed. He is your friend, nothing more. When you think about the press of his hand against your lower back and his lips close to your ear, your heart clenches. It feels like the most exhilarating torture for him to be so close yet so far. He has no idea how hard it is to suppress the blush rising to your cheeks and you want to keep it that way so instead you watch an older man in a dark red suit jacket look at his watch.
“There he is, it’s almost time for the auction. Don’t lose sights,” you whisper, pulling your lips into a smile as you turn toward Loki.
“He couldn’t be more obvious if he tried,” Loki says while pushing a strand of hair behind your ear and your breath hitches and you pray he doesn’t notice.
“You guys are disgusting, I can’t believe I have to watch this,” Tony’s voice comes through your ear pieces.
Loki rolls his eyes, scoffing, “Would you rather me hold a knife to her throat, Stark? Would that be more in character?”
“For you? Absolutely,” Tony says pointedly.
You clear your throat.
“If you two are done having your dick measuring contest, the target’s moving,” You whisper harshly.
The man in the red suit goes to the back of the gallery and flashes his watch to a young bouncer. He looks at him with an over polite smile. He’s nervous, this must be the new kid that Hydra set to work this event. Fury was right, they didn’t see the avengers as a threat. To be fair, the intel was fresh and the event was just arranged a few days ago. They just hadn’t checked the museum staff for any spies yet.
Nat looks at you subtly from the bar as she abandons her spot behind the counter and heads toward the back room. Her hair is dyed a dark black and is swept into a braid. She has a completely different face, courtesy of stark industries, but she moves with the same practiced ease of Natasha. She touches the bouncer’s arm and lean towards him. His eyes go wide and he hastily steps aside and follows her past the velvet rope. When they turn the corner you hear a door close through her mic and then you hear a few grunts and you swear you hear a sharp cracking sound.
“You’re all good, auction is about to start,” Nat says her tone calm.
“You’re brillant, Nat,” You shake your head in awe and hold onto Loki’s arm.
His suit is a dark green. The material cool to touch and fitting across his arms. His dark hair is swept back into an elegant loose bun. His face is at ease and you feel your heart stutter as his green eyes sparkle with the chandelier light overhead. You’re wearing a long gown the same color as his suit, the neckline is revealing but not too revealing to warrant any unnecessary glances. The thin straps on your shoulders are beaded with gold and the details on your bodice are dripped in gold, to match his cufflinks. He insisted on your outfits matching perfectly. ‘To sell the illusion’, he said.
“You look lovely, my dear wife,” He says as you pass a small group of lower hydra operatives.
“I’d hope so, I picked it out just for you. Now that we’re married it doesn’t mean I’ll stop trying to impress you,” You laugh airily as the two of you approach the now clear hallway.
You make a show of batting your eyes at the man beside you as a few of the operatives turn to look at the two of you. Loki wraps his arm around your waist and pulls you close, giving you a featherlight kiss on your forehead. When you turn the corner down a darker hall you both stop and press your backs against the wall, waiting to hear footsteps. None follow and you relax against the wall and look over to see Loki looking at you with a wolfish grin.
“You play this part beautifully, darling.”
You roll your eyes at him, trying to hide the start of a smile on your lips.
“You can turn it down a notch, Loki, all these rooms are sound proof according to the blueprints we got from Fury. No one is here to hear your flirting-“
“Except for us, Reindeer Games, you’re making me sick over here,” Tony complains and you can’t help but laugh.
“Careful, Loki, y/n may have to kick your ass if you get too frisky. This is a mission after all, what would Fury say?”
Nat’s smirk is evident in her words. You wish you could stop the hope from rising in your chest when Loki doesn’t seem too interested in defending himself. But then it’s crushed just as fast and you see his smile drop and he raises one eyebrow.
“I’m not flirting, I’m staying in character. There’s a difference. I suppose that’s why I was chosen for this mission over you, Stark. I’m simply more professional.”
“Yeah that’s the reason, definitely not the fact that I’m an extremely famous billionaire, philanthropist and the owner of one of the tallest buildings in New York. Which just so happens to have my name on it. But you’re right, Rock of Ages-“
You hear a door open down the hall.
“Will you two shut up,” you hiss.
You look at your diamond encrusted watch. They must have just got done appraising the piece you’re here for. You see a supply closet out of the corner of your eye and grab Loki’s wrist and pull him silently into it, turning your ear piece on mute. The room is cramped, the space taken up by cleaning products and a rack of boxes and towels. You can’t help but press Loki against the door as you hold your hand over his mouth. Your heart is racing. It sounds like there’s about five men in the hall. Stopped right in front of the closet door. In the small glimpse of light peaking through the door from the hallway you see Loki’s eyes shut tightly, his eyebrows furrowed.
You listen in on their conversation but it’s mostly small talk. All they say that rouses any suspicion is that they’re meeting at a hotel a few months from now. As their steps echo down the hall they say their goodbyes. Hail Hydra.
You let your head fall against Loki’s chest and take your hand from his mouth. He reaches up to his ear as he breathes heavily.
“Darling, if you wanted to get me alone, I could’ve arranged that much earlier.”
His voice is as smooth as silk, if a little breathless. You try to chuckle but you feel like floating. Your skin pricks as you look up and realize how close the two of you are.
“If I wanted you alone, Laufeyson, it would have already happened,” You counter, trying to slip into your usual banter.
It’s harder when it’s like this. When it’s so close to the truth but it just isn’t. You want him, but you know there’s no way he’d have you.
Loki opens his mouth to reply, smirking, but he stops short. You’re close enough to hear the muffled noise from his ear piece and Loki clears his throat when you pull away to turn the volume up. You nod at him and he opens the door to the closet.
“Hello? Am I just talking to myself here?”
“No, Tony, sorry. Had to focus, heading to the auction room now,” You respond.
Loki offers his arm and you take it, avoiding his eyes in hopes of just appearing focused. The two of you reach the auction room and slip in unnoticed. You find the place marker with your aliases and your paddle number and take your seat in the back.
The auctioneer hasn’t gotten to your item yet but you pretend to be interested and whisper to each other when it’s time for Loki to put his paddle up. You bid low enough to lose but high enough to where you drive the price up on some of the smaller items. An hour or so passes with you and Loki waiting to see the painting you came here for. Every time he raised the paddle he’d steal a glance at you, pleased with how frustrated some of the older attendees sounded when they had to place a higher bid.
You couldn’t help but marvel at how far he’s come since the battle of New York. You were one of the only people that was able to connect the fact that Loki’s eyes were the same color as Clint’s when he was being mind controlled. Before Loki ever joined you’d brought it up multiple times but no one ever really took it seriously. After he arrived at the tower, and he opened up more, in his own ways he confirmed that your theory was correct. He hasn’t told anyone what happened that lead him to that point, though. Luckily, he’s adjusted pretty well and if some of the avengers still don’t like them- they have a begrudging respect for him. Loki and Bucky bonded and formed an interesting friendship, with what Loki has told you it seems that they’ve helped each other readjust to freedom in a way. Wanda has also helped Loki open up more, they tend to spend some time every few weeks training with their magic. Clint still keeps his distance but that’s not a scar that’s going to heal quickly, you don’t think.
Loki tears you from your thoughts, tapping the inside of your right wrist. He’s staring straight at the painting you’re here for. It’s a 1940s battlefield landscape. But you’re not here because of the art itself, you’re here for what’s sewn into the canvas. You know that Tony is listening in as the auctioneer announces the piece.
“Showtime, newly weds,” Tony comments.
According to Fury’s intel there’s a note with coordinates to a hidden hydra base that has been thought to be inactive since just after the war. There’s been whispers of a resurgence of the winter soldier program in a top secret location. This might be the key to finding the headquarters.
Loki waits for a few people to bid before placing his first one in. If you can get your hands on this painting it could completely destroy the last of the winter soldier program, if you don’t win then this mission will be a hell of a lot more difficult. He puts his paddle up again and rests his hand on your thigh, his fingers dipping just inside of the dress’ side slit. He keeps his face straight and you assume someone’s looking but you can’t take your eyes off his hand. Your breath is shallow but you try to focus, giving his hand a pat when you think he should bid.
The general protocol is that the highest bidders are given directions to a safe house where they can make the exchange. Hydra transports the item there in heavily guarded vehicles. Which the team will be tracking via the Quinjet. You feel your knives strapped to your thigh, all night you’ve been itching for a fight. Maybe it’s the pent up frustration from your ruse or just the fact that you’ve been surrounded by hydra agents all night. It feels like torture to blend in with them but it’s honestly not even close to being one of the most difficult missions you’ve gone on. It’s tame in comparison to most, little combat and little interaction with the enemy. The hardest part is keeping your heart in check when Loki’s touching you like that. You’re starting to realize how incredibly distracting it can be.
“Sold to number twenty-five!”
The auctioneer announces the winner and you realize it’s not you.
“Shit.”
“What’s up, (y/n)? Did you get it or not?” Tony pries.
“They cut the bidding short. Two men came in and delivered a note to the auctioneer,” Loki explains.
You didn’t even notice. How did that happen?
“It must’ve been rigged, get out of there, we’ll see you at the jet.”
You slip your hand into Loki’s, the cold of his fake wedding band nipping at your skin.
“Let’s go, honey. I have a little surprise for you back at home,” You tease seductively.
His green eyes cut to yours, you swear that for a moment there’s a flash of something there. You just can’t quite put a name to it. Loki’s tongue brushes over his lower lip, bringing your hand up. He leaves a lingering kiss on your matching ring. The look in his eye paired with the graze of his mouth on your skin sends a strike of electricity through your veins. He gets up, leading you to the door.
“Shall we?” He makes a show of letting you exit first after you exchange the customary hail hydras with the organizer and his bodyguards.
When you get into the hall the two of you pick up your pace.
“Now, what?” You hiss at Loki.
He grins mischievously.
“Now, darling, we have some fun.”
You can tell he’s thinking what you’ve been feeling, this has been too easy. Now, at least, it’s getting interesting. You really wish you had a body suit under this dress but maybe if you’re lucky you’ll be able to make it to the jet before you have to do any real damage. You get instruction from Tony to take a few turns down the hall to a back exit that leads to an alley closer to the meeting point.
The night air is breezy and goosebumps form on your arms. The stars are bright and the moon is little more than a sliver. Your heels echo softly on the pavement as you walk. Loki is close enough to where your hands brush once in a while as you walk. Each time it happens you feel yourself being pulled further into his orbit. There’s something magnetic about Loki, and most might say it’s because he’s a god or because he’s like a predator. Coaxing his prey into a false security, but you don’t see him that way. You see a man, a god, that has been through awful things. Like anyone else, he has struggled. He is hard to crack but when you’re able to see what’s underneath the calculating front he puts up, he’s not that different from the rest of the team.
“You did good in there, Laufeyson, I think you’re getting the hang of this whole avenger thing,” you bump his shoulder with yours, “who knows, maybe you’ve found your glorious purpose.”
He chuckles and rubs the back of his neck.
“I don’t think that the other avengers share that sentiment.”
Your chest pangs, because it’s true.
Then his face hardens, glancing back the way you came. You hear some low voices cutting through the night and before you can react, Loki is grabbing you by the waist. He’s spinning you around and the world is tilting on its axis. You close your eyes thinking something bad is about to happen.
Your back hits the wall and one of his hands is on your waist, the other supporting your head, guiding it to back gently. When you open your eyes he’s looking at you and he silently shushes you. Loki leans in close to you and his nose is brushing yours and his gaze drops to your lips. Your heart is pounding in your chest and your skin is tingling. He’s so close and his breath smells like whiskey. His cologne is coating the air between you and it smells like the forest and it’s warm and welcoming and it’s so hard to pretend like you’re not in love with him when he’s so close.
“You look truly divine,” He breathes.
“You don’t mean that,” You whisper back, shaking your head.
The footsteps are getting closer and closer and you screw your eyes shut. You have no idea what to do now that you’ve lost contact with the others and you can’t think straight. Loki always leaves your mind cloudy and usually it doesn’t effect your mission but you’ve never been in such a compromising position. He’s intoxicating and it takes all your willpower not to lean into him further. Not to press your lips to his or wrap your arms around his neck.
“Yes,” he leans a fraction closer, “I do.”
Then he’s pressing you further into the bricks and his fingers are brushing against your cheekbone. You open your eyes and he looks at you and his pupils are blown wide. Then he kisses you and it’s so soft. He’s kissing you like you’re going to disappear, like you’re made of glass. It’s fragile and you can tell he’s braced for rejection and even though you’re terrified that this is all for the mission somehow you melt into the kiss. A low noise is pulled from him as you slide your hands through his hair, it falls from its slicked back bun and the strands are falling against your cheek. The moment is everything you’ve ever dreamed it would be and still it’s so much better.
The whole world is slipping away and you ears are buzzing and you realize you need to breathe. You pull back, leaning your head back toward the cool night air and then his lips are on your neck and you feel weightless.
“Believe me, (y/n),” he whispers against your skin, his breath cool, “I could never lie to you.”
The sound of your name makes you whimper as his lips move further and further down. The footsteps are long gone, you realize. You should go, both of you should go meet the others at the rendezvous point. But you can’t move, it’s like you’re stuck to the spot and all you can focus on is this, this mischievous god against you and how his hands are chilling your skin and setting it on fire all at once. The way his tie has come slightly loose and how his cheeks are reddened. He’s disheveled and you never thought it would be for you, because of you.
“Loki-“ You choke out.
“(Y/n), come in. Can you hear us? Where are you, agent?” Steve’s voice breaks through the static in your ear piece.
Loki pulls back abruptly, the voice of your captain breaking through the moment. His eyes are wide as he looks at you and your heart sinks. He regrets it. You just lost your best friend. You sober up quickly and slip from Loki’s grasp and maneuver around him, looking down the alleyway.
“I hear you, Cap. We’re not too far from the museum, had to take a detour. On our way now.”
“We got eyes on the truck, good work you two, you make a fine team.”
You look at Loki for a second. You can’t read his expression as he straightens his tie and fixes his hair. He wipes his lips, erasing all the evidence of what happened just like that. As if it never happened, couldn’t happen. Not with you, at least. You sigh.
“Yeah, I guess we do.”
In silence you head to the rendezvous point. The tension thick between you. Maybe all he’ll ever be is your partner. Maybe you were naive to think that it could seriously be more. It was just the heat of the moment and it should have never gotten that far. Maybe you could learn to live with that.
the entire season they've shown sylvie perpetually being okay to just walk away from the fray and getting no consequences whatsoever. which would be ok since she doesn't rlly care about them like loki does. but in the end she just moves on so fast after she watched loki isolate himself and go off JUST to fix her mistake.......
meanwhile mobius is there, frozen in that time, left behind by the person he's an "expert" on not only bc of his job but bc of their friendship, him quitting the job that was his entire life, because loki has left and his previous purpose didn't have loki anymore
it's just fucked up how everyone else got their happy endings (good for them) except for loki and mobius. they're apart, separated once again, looking miserable in their last shots. just like last season.
Who Did This To You?
Summary: You'd grown up with the Princes of Asgard. They were your friends. And sure, things weren't always as sweet as pie with the God of Mischief, but you could trust him.
I'm a slut for (vaguely) enemies to lovers and the "Who did this to you?" trope, but really, who isn't?
Of course, that means someone did something bad, so here's your warning for attempted sexual assault.
The slap of your feet on the cool stone echoed around the palace walls, the familiarity of your surroundings lost as the fear distorted the maze in front of you. Their yells seemed to follow you even as the distance between you grew, your ragged breaths doing nothing to drown out their voices. You skidded around the corner, lifting the skirt of your dress as you ran up the stairs, up and up until at last you recognised the floor you were on. The rational part of your brain hadn’t caught up yet, you were moving purely on instinct as the tears spilled down your cheeks.
Finally, the dim light of the palace grew brighter, and you had to swallow down the bile in your throat as the guards turned to you, eyebrows drawn together as they took in your dishevelled appearance. Your lungs burned for air, your legs struggling to keep up with the fear driving you on. One of the guards reached out an arm to stop you, but you slipped past his grasp as he called out to you. The thud of boots behind you as they followed sent another wave of nausea through you, and you stumbled, your hands grazing the stone beneath you as they broke your fall.
The door ahead of you creaked open, and you lifted your head to meet the gaze of your prince.
—----
The trickle of blood was warm down your leg as you blinked back tears, trying your best to ignore the stinging of your knees as you pushed yourself to your feet. You rounded quickly on Loki, your palm connecting with his cheek with a satisfying CRACK.
He stumbled back, cradling his face in shock. “How dare you! I am your prince-”
“I don’t care if you’re a prince! You’re an arse, is what you are!”
Thor’s chuckle echoed from behind you and you spun around to him, embarrassment heating your face. The golden prince raised a brow at you. “You may be right, Y/N, but you probably shouldn’t say it quite so loudly.”
You bit your lip, looking up at the palace that sparkled in the sunlight. You flicked your eyes back down at Thor. “He pushed me.” You couldn’t help the petulance that laced your words.
Thor frowned at the boy behind you. “Brother, you shouldn’t hurt a Lady.”
You heard Loki’s snort. “Look at her, she certainly doesn’t look like one.”
It was your turn to frown, and you turned to him as you fumbled with the knot you had tied your skirts in around your thighs. “Well I couldn’t exactly race you if I was tripping over my dress, now could I?”
Loki sneered, crossing his arms over his chest. “You still lost.”
“Because you cheated!”
“Sshh!” Thor’s hushing stopped you mid-march towards Loki, and it was then that you heard the quiet chatter of your mother and the Queen.
You dipped into a low curtsey as the pair appeared along the path, arms linked together in friendship. “Your Majesty.”
“Lady Y/N.” Queen Frigga greeted with a smile, “We thought we might find you all out here.”
Your mother pulled away from the Queen, extending her hand to you. “Come, let us leave Her Majesty to talk to her sons.”
You took her hand with a well-practised smile, curtseying to the royals in turn. “Your Majesty, Your Royal Highness, Your Royal Highness.” Thor and Loki struggled to contain their amusement at your manners; having grown up together you only ever bothered to refer to them by their proper titles in the presence of others.
You walked away arm in arm with your mother, barely listening as she chatted enthusiastically about your closeness with the princes. Instead, your mind wandered to what bribes you could offer Thor to fill Loki’s bed with raw fish.
—--
You panted beneath Archer’s touch, his hands firm on your waist as he nipped at your throat. Your eyes flew open as you bit your lip to hide your smile in the moonlight. It was Archer, wasn’t it? Or was it Hunter? You swallowed your giggle as you considered the absurdity of your own forgetfulness, your distracted mind not noticing the glimmer of magic at the corner of your vision.
The boy pulled away, searching for your lips, but you planted your hands on his chest, batting your eyelashes at him. “I should get back before they notice I’m gone.” You murmured, smiling at his protests. “I’ll see you soon, okay?”
You pushed off the tree and out of his grasp before he could say another word, making your way back onto the path and up towards the palace. You managed to avoid anyone of importance, slipping into your chambers unnoticed.
You sighed as you took in Loki’s nonchalant expression as he reclined back on your couch, his feet propped up on the coffee table before him as he lifted a goblet to his lips. “It’s quite improper to let yourself into a Lady’s rooms, you know.”
The God of Mischief smiled wickedly at you, eyeing you up as you made your way over to the mirror, inspecting your reflection for any signs of dishevelment. “And you know how much I love all things improper.”
You rolled your eyes, choosing to ignore him. “Is Thor still walking me down to dinner?”
“Of course, who else would escort the birthday girl?” Loki sat up, resting his elbows on his knees as he watched you smooth out your dress. “Lady Y/N, finally of age… All of the Lords will be scrambling to court you.”
You snorted, turning to him with a smirk. “Let them. You know I’m not-”
“I wonder what they’ll say when they find out you’ve been whoring yourself out to a servant,” Loki said frankly, watching you over the rim of his goblet as he took a sip. You opened and closed your mouth in shock, before his visage shimmered and faded. A warm body pressed against your back as an arm wrapped around your waist, his other hand tucking your hair behind your ear as you stood frozen. Loki’s breath tickled your neck as he whispered in your ear, “You really should be more careful, darling, anyone could have happened upon your little meeting in the woods.”
You silently scolded your body for the reaction to his touch, a shiver creeping up your spine. He was teasing you, mocking you, enjoying the proximity of your bodies contrasting your mutual dislike for each other. You pulled away with a frown. He let you go, watching as you picked up his discarded goblet and downed the contents. You winced at the burn in your throat, coughing. “You’re such an arse.”
Loki smirked at your words, pulling a flask from his pocket as he made his way over to you. He poured the amber liquid into the goblet in your hand as you jabbed a finger into his chest. “Don’t you dare say a word to anyone.”
“Would I really do that?” He raised an eyebrow at you and reached for the goblet. You pulled it away from him with a pout.
“Promise me, Loki.”
“You have my word, darling,” He smiled, tracing his thumb over your cheek. You frowned once again at his mocking and stepped back, but he caught the hand that was wrapped around the goblet. “I think you’d better give that back.”
“Why?”
“It’s not meant for your delicate mortal body.”
“I’m not delicate-” Your childish rebuke cut off as all the blood seemed to rush to your head at once, and you swayed on the spot. Loki took the goblet from you, nudging you back onto the couch.
The prince hummed as he considered you, “I probably should have stopped you before you finished the glass.” He sat down next to you with a sigh and you bounced slightly. “Oh well.”
You closed your eyes as the dizziness began to subside, reaching out a thump and meeting Loki’s arm with a satisfying thud. “Don’t pretend you’re sorry.” You could practically hear his smug grin.
A knock sounded at the door and you opened your eyes. “Come in.”
Thor strode into the room, bowing absurdly low before you. “Happy Birthday, Y/N.”
You giggled, standing up and offering your hand to him to kiss. He did so with a wink, pulling you to tuck your hand in the crook of his arm. “How are you this evening?”
“I’m well, thank you.”
“My brother hasn’t been pestering you, has he?”
You ignored Loki’s snort of indignation. “No more than usual.”
—--
Your mother fussed with your hair as you stood outside of the banquet hall, rowdy cheers echoing down the hallway from the feast. You batted her hands away. “It’s fine, mother. Let us go in, I’m dying to say hello to the Princes.”
“They only become more handsome with each new victory under their belt, don’t they?” She smiled as if she knew what you were thinking.
“Oh, do leave it be, mother.” You rolled your eyes.
“You’re not getting any younger, dear. You could do much worse than a Prince of Asgard.” She looked at you pointedly and you huffed, pulling her into the hall.
You curtseyed to the King and Queen, and left your mother with Frigga. You made your way down the hall, nodding to those that greeted you, until a familiar booming voice called your name. Thor waved you over, motioning away one of the lords to make room next to him and you curtseyed to him before sitting down. He pulled you under his arm in a hug and you laughed, thanking him as he poured you a glass of wine.
“How have you been, Lady Y/N?”
You took a sip of your wine, glancing at Loki as he sat opposite you, immersed in conversation. You were thankful to avoid his sneer at yours and Thor’s affections. “I’m well! I’m afraid I have nothing new to tell you,” you smiled at the golden prince, “I can imagine that you have plenty of stories to tell me, though.”
Thor needed no more encouragement than that, and launched into a battle story that was sure to become legend as you waved over a server to refill the jugs of wine.
You lost track of time as you listened to his stories, laughing with your friends. Loki joined in occasionally, barely sparing you a glance. You hated to admit that his lack of acknowledgement stung; it wasn’t as if you were best friends, but you had always thought you shared a unique understanding of each other, having spent most of your childhood together.
You flicked your gaze to the guards, who were trying their best to act as if they couldn’t hear the sounds of destruction coming from the prince’s chamber. You offered them a polite smile, asking them if they might give you some space.
When you entered Loki’s rooms, they looked as if they had been ransacked. Chairs were overturned, a vase of fresh flowers lay shattered on the ground, and a seething prince paced the length of the room. The various stacks of books lay untouched, you noticed, and you tried not to smile. Even when he was angry, Loki couldn’t bring himself to destroy anything of importance.
You picked up a chair, setting it down properly and taking a seat. You waited for him to speak.
“Their favouritism knows no bounds.” Loki hissed, mostly to himself.
You grimaced; of course it was this again. “What happened?”
“They’re throwing a feast! In his honour!” He spun towards you, lifting his arms in exasperation. “They didn’t even mutter a ‘thank you’ in my direction!” He laughed dryly. “He couldn’t even remember the ambassador’s name, the oaf. I had to step in and charm my way out of war. And then he somehow befriends them, turns the whole trip around, and I’m long forgotten, once again!”
“You shouldn’t call your brother an oaf.”
“Of course you’d take his side.” Loki sneered, stepping towards you.
“I’m not. I just don’t see the point in resenting him when it’s your Father that has angered you.” You didn’t break his gaze. Most would cower under the angry gaze of the god, but he didn’t scare you. You still remembered him pre-puberty. There was nothing scary about a spoiled little boy.
You looked around the room at the destruction. “You should clean this up before anyone sees.”
The god leaned over you, placing his hands on the arms of the chair and caging you in. “Don’t tell me what to do.”
You looked at him unwaveringly, and he held your gaze with fire in his eyes, until it eventually died down. He sighed, pulling away and waving his hand. The room righted itself, and you hid your self-satisfied smirk. Instead, you stood, making your way over to him and resting your hand on his arm.
“It’s not fair, Loki, I never said it was. But you can’t give them a reason to scold you. Continue being the best you can be, and eventually they’ll have to notice.”
Loki offered you a small smile. “I preferred it when you were annoying.”
Soon, the hall began to empty, and your mother took up an empty seat next to you as Loki excused himself. You watched him go, dropping your gaze to your mother.
She wasted no time in getting to the point. “Her Majesty says that she is keen to get her sons courting, to take them away from their laddish behaviour.”
You had to stop yourself from groaning. “They’re not as laddish as you think,” you said, ignoring her obvious point.
She looked at you, unamused. “Y/N, you can’t refuse to court forever-”
“I think I shall follow Prince Loki’s sense and retire for the night, I am rather tired.” You interrupted her, standing up and kissing her on the cheek. “Goodnight, mother.”
You strode from the room before she could stop you, leaning against the wall outside to take off your heels and give your aching feet a rest. It was late enough that you were unlikely to be seen carrying your shoes, and you padded contentedly down the corridor, thinking of your bed and a glass of warm milk.
Taking a detour, you hoped to bump into a servant to request the comforting drink. You took your time, but didn’t see anyone, and so decided to head down a floor in search of assistance. The sound of laughter greeted you as you descended and you hurried towards the sound, eager to get back to your room.
Two guards stood to attention when they saw you, stifling their smiles as they nodded. “Can we help you, M’Lady?” One asked.
You smiled at them and opened your mouth to speak, but the second guard interrupted you. “Or maybe you can help us.” He smirked, nudging the other one. They shared a look before turning to you.
You frowned in confusion as they stepped towards you, but you barely had time to process the predatory look in their eyes before they grabbed you, pulling you into a darkened alcove. One pulled you back against him, his hand over your mouth to muffle your screams as he used his other arm to pin your arms to your sides. You dropped your shoes as you struggled against him, squeezing your legs together as the other one lifted your skirt, his rough hands dragging against your thighs. Your heart thumped loudly in your chest as fear and disbelief coiled painfully in your stomach.
He pulled a dagger from its sheath, trailing the cold blade against the exposed skin on your chest, and you yelped against the hand on your mouth as he pressed it into your flesh, drawing blood. He collected it on the tip and brought it to his mouth, licking it off.
They both panted in excitement and the one in front of you chuckled quietly. “I’ve always wanted to fuck a real lady.” He shoved his leg between yours, pressing the dagger against your thigh. “Wonder if your cunt feels any better than the whore’s down the inn.”
You squeezed your eyes shut against his hungry gaze, tears cascading down your cheeks. This couldn’t be happening, it had to be some kind of awful dream. How had your wonderful night turned so awful so quickly? You were about to be raped, helpless against two armed men.
“Erik? Gunnar?” A voice called out, and the two men froze. Your eyes flew open and you watched as the guard in front of you slid the dagger back in its sheath, your skirt falling back down as he stepped out of the alcove.
The other guard held you tight, but your heart filled with hope and desperation. Surely you could take on one guard? You certainly couldn’t give up on what might be your only chance.
Slowly, you reached out your foot, searching for your shoes. When you found one, you slid it on, stamping on the guard's foot as hard as you could. It didn’t do as much as you’d wanted with him wearing boots, but it was enough that you could duck down out of his grasp. He latched onto your dress before you could make it more than a few feet away, and you spun around, digging your nails into any skin you could find, scratching until you drew blood. He swore loudly as his grip loosened.
You fled as fast as you could. The slap of your feet on the cool stone echoed around the palace walls, the familiarity of your surroundings lost as the fear distorted the maze in front of you. Their yells seemed to follow you even as the distance between you grew, your ragged breaths doing nothing to drown out their voices. You skidded around the corner, lifting the skirt of your dress as you ran up the stairs, up and up until at last you recognised the floor you were on. The rational part of your brain hadn’t caught up yet, you were moving purely on instinct as the tears spilled down your cheeks.
Finally, the dim light of the palace grew brighter, and you had to swallow down the bile in your throat as two guards turned to you, eyebrows drawn together as they took in your dishevelled appearance. Your lungs burned for air, your legs struggling to keep up with the fear driving you on. One of the guards reached out an arm to stop you, but you slipped past his grasp as he called out to you. The thud of boots behind you as they followed sent another wave of nausea through you, and you stumbled, your hands grazing the stone beneath you as they broke your fall.
The door ahead of you creaked open, and you lifted your head to meet the gaze of your prince. Loki took in the fear in your eyes, your tear-stained face, the bleeding cut on your chest, all in an instant. He moved quickly, silently helping you to stand before picking you up into his arms before your legs could give way. He cradled you to him as he moved you through his rooms and part of you wanted to lean into his warmth, the strangely comforting scent of him, but you couldn’t get the thought of the two guards out of your head.
He sat you on the edge of his bed and reached for your shaking hand. You let him take it, your sobs turning into shallow hiccups as you watch his thumb trace calming circles on your skin. As you calmed, you finally met his gaze, watching the storm behind his eyes.
He stood and you watched him through bleary eyes, waiting for him to laugh and make you leave. Your mind was racing, your heart hammering with adrenaline, and all you wanted to do was crawl into a corner and screw your eyes shut against the pain in your head.
Instead of laughing, Loki went to the bathroom, the sound of running water filling the room. When he returned, he pulled a chair over and sat opposite you.
“Who did this to you?” The words were quiet, but firm.
You couldn’t stop the sobs that wracked your body at his words, the terrible gasps you made for air as tears began to stream once again. You couldn’t see the pain on his face as he watched you shake, yearning to reach out and comfort you.
The images replayed in your head, and you cried harder as you realised that he was watching them too, searching your mind for the answers he wanted. You could feel his boiling rage before he closed the connection.
“Here’s what’s going to happen.” His words were cold, and some part of you knew that he was protecting you from his true emotions, but you couldn’t help the painful pang in your chest at the thought that his anger might be directed at you. You swallowed the sob in your throat to let him continue. “You will go and have a bath, and stay as long as you need. I will have a maid fetch your things and bring them to you. You will sleep here tonight, under my protection. Understood?”
You’d never taken orders from him, and normally you’d laugh at him for even trying to boss you around. But you ached to feel the warm envelopment of the water, and you knew there was nowhere safer to be.
You bit your lip and nodded, standing on shaky legs. Loki reached out a hand to steady you, but you flinched at his touch. He withdrew it immediately, watching you silently as you half-stumbled to the bathroom and closed the door.
You stripped as quickly as you could with your shaking hands, determined not to let yourself break until you were in the bath. The water was too hot, but you welcomed the burn as you sunk in, the tears streaming silently down your face.
You held yourself tightly, as if you could stop yourself from falling apart completely. When you noticed the blood caked under your nails, you had to swallow the bile in your throat, hiding your hands beneath the bubbles as you scrubbed them.
A quiet knock sounded at the door and you struggled to find your voice to call them in as you crossed your arms over your chest. You averted your eyes as the maid placed down your things, collecting your dress. She stopped at the door and you looked up at her.
She bit her lip nervously and gestured to the dress. “His Royal Highness says to get rid of this, M’Lady.”
You swallowed hard and looked away. “Burn it.”
—----
Despite your protests, Loki insisted on you sleeping in his bed, and you watched as he settled himself on the couch. You fell asleep quickly, the lack of adrenaline leaving you both mentally and physically exhausted. It didn’t last as long as you’d hoped, and you woke up as the birds started singing, the sky still dark.
The tears leaked silently onto the pillow, and you found yourself afraid of your own thoughts. It’s as if you could still feel the two guards’ hands on you, and you absentmindedly traced your fingers over the cut on your chest. You sniffled, sitting up on the bed and wiping your nose.
You could make out Loki’s long form in the low light, his feet propped up over the edge of the couch as he slept. You didn’t think as you stood up, your aching legs carrying you gingerly over to him, stopping barely a foot away. You ran your eyes over his form, his dark hair splayed on the pillow, down to his softly parted lips. Your gaze lingered on the exposed skin of his chest as the top of his night shirt splayed open, watching the soft rise and fall of his breaths.
Why had you run here? Was this really where your subconscious had carried you? Why hadn’t you run to Thor? You bit your lip as you thought. You didn’t want Thor to see you like this. You’d never truly been vulnerable around him. And despite your best efforts, Loki had seen a side to you that most hadn’t, on more than one occasion.
You frowned down at your book as Loki sat down in the armchair opposite you, hoping that he would take the hint and leave you alone.
“I see you’ve already given up on the literature I recommended to you.”
You sighed, sparing him a glance. “I finished it.”
“All three novels?” He quirked an eyebrow at you.
“Yes.” You couldn’t hide your annoyance, trying once again to actually take in the passage in front of you.
“I didn’t know you could read so quickly.”
You knew he was only teasing, but the words stung, the comments from your tutor too fresh in your mind. You swallowed thickly, blinking back tears as you willed yourself not to cry in front of him.
Loki sighed. “I’m only winding you up, Y/N.”
“Well don’t!” You slammed your book shut, standing up with a huff. Loki caught your arm as you stormed past.
“What’s wrong?”
You bit your lip, knowing it was futile to pretend you were fine. Still, you didn’t particularly want to pour your heart out to him.
“My tutor says that we should stop our lessons. That I read too much and it doesn’t do a girl any good to be too smart.”
Loki dropped your arm and you sighed at his expression.
“I’ll be fine, Loki.” Your reassured him. “I’m just being over-dramatic.” You turned away and left the library quickly, sure that you’d embarrassed yourself enough for one day.
The next morning your mother informed you that Queen Frigga had recommended a new tutor, insisting that ‘young ladies should always be able to explore their potential’.
Despite your differences and your difficulties, you found you did trust Loki. You knew that he would never hurt you. You flicked your gaze back up to his face, your breath catching in your throat as you found him watching you.
“I can’t sleep.” You whispered.
He didn’t say anything, sitting up and gesturing for you to sit beside him. You sat, fiddling with the sleeve of your nightgown. Finally, he spoke.
“What do you need?” His words were soft, quiet.
You thought for a moment, your mind clinging to a ridiculous idea, a childish need for reassurance. You couldn’t bring yourself to say the words, instead looking at him and tapping your forehead with your finger.
He understood instantly, and you felt him searching your thoughts. Part of you expected him to laugh at the notion, but instead he offered you a small smile and reached out a gentle hand, tugging you to him.
You fell onto his chest, his arm around your shoulders, and your heart beat rapidly in your chest. It should have felt strange, being in Loki’s arms, but you found yourself melting into his warmth. You felt him rest his chin on your head, and realised just how comforting it was to be held by him.
—----
You didn’t realise you had fallen asleep until you woke to sunlight streaming in the windows. You blinked slowly, flicking your gaze to the couch to see it empty. Lifting your head, you found yourself resting on Loki’s chest, enveloped in his embrace. He must have carried you to the bed.
You wanted to be embarrassed, mortified even, but couldn’t find the energy to care as you stretched your muscles, finding yourself content in that moment.
Then, the memories of the night before came flooding back, and you breaths grew quicker. You felt like you couldn’t breathe, and you sat up quickly, gasping for breath as you hyperventilated. You crawled off the bed, sliding onto the floor as you held yourself, trying to catch your breath.
Loki moved to the edge of the bed silently, and you felt him spread his legs behind you. He pulled you back to him, your back to the edge of the bed as you sat between his legs. He tilted your head up, his fingers kneading at your temples.
“Close your eyes,” he said quietly, and you obeyed, focusing on the feeling of his fingers. Your breathing began to slow, and you tried to untense your shoulders as you allowed him to ground you.
You stayed like that for a while, until you felt relaxed enough to open your eyes. You tilted your head up, looking up at him.
He smiled, a rare smile that wasn’t cruel or mocking, and it fluttered something in your chest.
“You should go and get ready, I’ll have breakfast brought to your chambers.”
You instinctively grabbed his hand in an iron grip. “Come with me,” you whispered, the thought of being alone sending a shock of panic through you. You didn’t want to think about how quickly your dynamic had changed, how much you needed him all of a sudden.
“Of course.” He squeezed your hand, before sliding out from behind you. You watched him change before your eyes, a glimmer of magic, and he was now dressed for the day and looking as if he hadn’t slept on a couch for half the night.
He collected your robe from the back of the chair, offering it to you. You slid it on, thankful for your chambers not being too far, a perk of being the Queen’s favourites.
The walk seemed slow, your legs tired from the night before, and you kept your eyes down, willing to get there as quickly as possible. As you passed a couple of maids chatting on their way to the Prince’s rooms, you found yourself turning to them, something in their conversation tugging at your brain.
“What did you just say?” You interrupted, not realising you had stopped.
“Oh! Your Royal Highness!” They curtseyed to Loki before turning to you. “M’Lady,” they curtseyed again before sharing an anxious look.
“We were just saying what a shame it was, M’Lady.”
“What do you mean?” You asked, tilting your head. You felt Loki stop behind you.
“About the two guards. They were found this morning, ‘said they drank too much and went for a swim and were found washed up on the river bank.”
Loki must have gestured behind you because the maids dipped into a curtsey and hurried away. Your hands were shaking when you turned back to him. Loki gently tilted your chin up with his fingers, and you found his eyes dark and stormy.
“No one will ever hurt you again, my love.”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The tears in your eyes cloud your vision. Loki stares at you in shock. All he can see is a shell of the woman he met before. The woman with fire and passion, cursing out a king, purely feeding off of bravery and survival instinct. He realizes that it was a defence mechanism created to hide her true pain beneath.
You feel the walls within you building back up, brick by brick around your heart. Closing yourself off from everything. Until you feel nothing again. The tears stop, your heart rate slows, your hands are dry. All you can do is blink and stare out the window. It's like your brain goes into autopilot; shielding you from the trauma and pain you've endured.
You rise from the chair quickly "I apologize, your highness. This has all been an overreaction. I am sorry for bothering you. I will now take my leave." You turn towards the door but you're met with a blank wall.
What?
You feel his hand gently grab your wrist.
"I know what you're doing. You're shielding yourself from the emotional pain. I know that look all too well. I mastered it, myself." He approaches you slightly, closing the gap between you.
"So you're solution is to lock me in here?!"
His eyes glistened as he spoke "Stop. Please, don't push me out, believe me. " Your breath hitches in your throat.
The king is pleading me to believe him?
Before you can answer you feel his thumb gently grasp your chin to lock in your gaze.
"I promise. He will pay for everything he did to you. I will seek it myself. However, I need to know what he did..." Loki softly says to you, his eyes burning with pure sincerity.
You don't know why but the glare in his eyes lit a fire in your heart you thought was extinguished and irreparable. When you looked at him, you could see a green aura surrounding him. You weren't afraid, you were enamoured by it. You felt this gravitational pull...You felt... warmth and tranquility; something you haven't felt in a very long time.
"Okay. I believe you." you breathe out.
The intensity of your words weighed heavy on Loki's heart. He knew a woman like you, trusted nobody but herself.
You don't know why but you feel this urge to tell him everything, from the moment you reached the castle until now. The abuse, the attempted rapes, the whipping, the pain and suffering.
When you finish explaining your truth, living as a maid, all Loki could do was listen to you intently, absorbing everything you say, never faltering. You had his undivided attention.
"Why didn't Banner ever mention it?......" Loki questions aloud.
"I told him not to. He promised he wouldn't. Banner keeps his word."
"Why didn't tell anyone? Why let yourself suffer all this time?" his green eyes are bright with emotion, almost as though he can feel your pain.
"Do you think anyone would believe me? Even if I did, Why would they say anything to oppose him? He is the pure essence of evil. Everybody fears him, nobody defies him without consequence. He says every action is ordered by YOU, the KING, might I remind you! Do you think ANY of us even THOUGHT of questioning that? Do you think anybody would bat and eyelash if I were to suddenly disappear? They would replace me the next day with no further thought. I've been gone for so long by now, they probably have done just that. We are enslaved to the crown. We have no rights. We are treated as objects who are easily replaceable. When you need this job to survive with basic necessities on a daily basis, you become numb to it all."
Loki stares at you, mouth slightly agape. His mind couldn't wrap itself around the fact that he failed you, he failed his people.
The king is speechless. That's a first.
Loki was calm on the outside but raging severely on the inside. He could not fathom how this could be happening within his castle walls without his knowledge.
He suddenly felt this uncontrollable rage bubbling up inside him. His hands began to glow green as he attempted to contain his emotions.
What is happening? I haven't reacted like this since I was a teenager.
Your story was replaying in his head, over and over again as he stared out his window, trying to contain his powers to not scare you away.
How DARE HE touch even one hair on her head. I will make him pay for this.
His hands grew brighter with every thought of you suffering by his hands. He felt this intense urge to protect you, to regain vengeance on the pain he has caused you.
He suddenly spins on his heel and walks towards you, placing a gentle hand your cheek. "Believe me when I say that none of this was my doing. I never ordered any of these commands. They are foolish dogs who managed to loosen their leashes without me noticing. I will make him pay. All of them." he hissed through gritted teeth.
Before you can retort he cuts you off.
"You shall stay in the chambers besides mine. You will be safe." he says before he disappears into the thin air and you appear into chambers you do not recognize.
What did I just do?
"Yessss that's it," he hisses and smacks her ass.
It's two months later and they're still at it - not every night, but almost.
He'd otherwise feared it a one time thing with the way she'd so quickly recovered the first night after he'd pulled three astonishing orgasms out of her, but had been positively thrilled to find her yelling at him on his doorstep the very next evening. He honestly cannot even remember what he did to upset her that much, but he knows it must've made her really angry because he vividly remembers three minutes later with his hands full of ass and his tongue buried inside of her.
She's calmed down since then; he doesn't have to provoke her to get her wet anymore but they still fuck like it's the end of the world.
It's the rawest, dirtiest, most destructive sex he's ever had and it's magnificent, carnal, rough! He slaps her ass as hard as he can, eats her beautiful cunt, forces his fingers inside of her until she screams his name, lets her tie him up while she tastes all of him.
It's been two secretive months of bite marks and purple tints on his skin. Of long, red scratches down his back and raven-black hair being pulled out in the most delicious of ways.
She - is - incredible! He wants to cum - fuck, she deserves the praise!
He lets her know.
"Fuck me, Loki," she hisses his name the way that he loves and it sends tingles all the way down to his balls, makes his head float up to the heavens.
"As you please," he flips them around, lies her down on her back, towers over her and admires her pliant body with his hand caressing down over her soft stomach. He still cannot believe he's this lucky!
He pushes himself back inside of her with force, watches her sweet little face contract with pleasure as her mouth falls open in an inaudible sigh.
"Darling girl," he hisses and feels her tighten around him as he diligently slides into her silk. "You feel amazing!" He leans forwards, pinches her beautiful nipple, sucks on her jawline, ruts hit hips against her to the vulgar sound of her hypnotising wetness swallowing him whole.
"Oh," she moans and he almost shivers when her eyelids close halfway with every meticulously-placed thrust of his hips while he moves with control, careful not to let go and cut the moment short - he never has her afterwards...
"Loki," she hums ever so sweetly in his ear, scrapes her nails down over his already raw-clawed shoulder blades, wraps her legs around his back, contracts around him while he's concentrating on the entirety that is her.
He saved her, he thinks to himself and gasps when his seidr begins to glow at the memory. He's thought of it a million times already and still, the mere sight of the scar on her shoulder makes his chest expand - expand - expand!
He connects his forehead with hers, finds her wide eyes and slows his hips down to a tender pace.
He was worthy enough to save her!
Their connection feels like something resembling faith. Like branches weaved at the foot of Yggdrasil, and he sensually rolls his hips and kisses her deeply, fucks her like a lover.
It's suddenly slow and caring. Soft and all-consuming. She seems to love it, and without warning, she's raking her soft finger pads through his long hair, licking his throat like a kitten while he expertly slowly guides himself in and out of her tight wetness. She whispers his name affectionately and everything glows brighter than before.
"Darling," his tongue slides into her mouth again, caresses her lazily, doubles as a non-verbal whisper telling her that he feels the same. He feels the same - and she immediately picks up on the fluorescent seidr that's filling up his chest cavity; she gasps, flutters around him, and she comes - loudly!
"Oh God!" she closes her eyes and tips over the edge while her perfect inner walls contract violently and squeeze him tight.
He's never heard such beautiful, long moans before as her fingers grab onto his curls and she gently pulls him with her, fills him up with sparks while he fucks her slowly.
He can feel every nerve ending in his body being pulled taut as a flash bow as his seidr vibrates and he finally spills inside her embracing heat to the music of her breaths against his ear.
"My sweet girl," he growls as he involuntarily falls down from his high and pulls her close while she whimpers like a wounded animal. "My goddess!" he kisses her throat, rakes his teeth across her humid skin, trails his hand down between them, ready to spoil her over and over again with his fingers, his tongue, his cock! She deserves it all and he's desperate to have her in his room a little longer. He wants her to stay forever.
He can feel the intense bond between them tightening and he slowly starts moving his hips again while his fingers find her clit.
A pang of warmth strikes his belly when he looks at her pretty face, and he cannot help the desperately sincere "you are so beautiful," that escapes his lips as he leans down to kiss her. "I want you to spend the night."
The change on her face comes in a matter of milliseconds. Suddenly, the all-consuming bliss is replaced. First, by confusion and not even moments later by the scorching anger he knows so well. "What the fuck, Loki??" she pushes at his clammy chest, "what are you doing?"
At first, he's not sure if they've resumed their regular game of cat and mouse so he keeps toying with her delicate clit the way that he knows she loves. "What am I doing?" he licks her throat and teases her asshole with his middle finger, "I'm making you come - what does it look like I'm doing?"
"No!" she pushes him again and he finally lets her escape from between his legs when he realises that she's not joking. "What the fuck was that?!"
Confused, he watches her stand from the bed. "...I'm not following you?"
"You're slow-fucking me now?" she hisses as she quickly pulls on her top, hides away her body as if he did something detestable. "Forehead to forehead like you're in love with me or something?"
It stings. "Excuse me?!"
She huffs as she forcefully yanks on her jeans. "I thought we agreed on what this was!"
"We do," he positions himself on the edge of the bed with his hands grabbing onto the sheets so tightly his knuckles turn white with humiliation. "I don't understand what the issue here is."
"Did you enchant me?"
"Enchant you?" He barks, offended. "Is that what you think of me?"
"No - I..." She huffs and looks as if she's about to pull out her own hair in frustration. "You did something different!” She says accusingly.
"I slowed down."
"Well I didn't like it!"
"You didn't like it?" He repeats, baffled. It's his most stunning performance yet; mostly due to the way she so beautifully reacted to him, and now she's trying to make him believe that she didn't like it?! "Excuse me but I'm going to have to disagree with that. I made you come harder than ever before; don't pretend you didn't enjoy it."
She sends him an annoyed side eye. "I was caught up in the moment."
"So was I!"
"That's not the point!"
"Indulge me then!"
They stare at each other, more confused than anything else and the silence between them is eating away at him.
"Tell me what I did," he pleads with a desperation that's unlike him while he instinctively reaches out for her hand although he knows it's a bad idea, "- so I won't repeat it next time."
He's right; it is a bad idea, because she immediately pushes his hand away with new-found flames in her eyes. "There won't be a next time," she says determinedly and with that, she gathers her shoes and storms out the door. Slams it shut.
***
She avoids him. Turns on her heel every time he enters a room, looks straight through him when they pass each other in the hallway, acts like they've barely even spoken a word - and he hates it! Hates the desperation, the emptiness of her face when he's the only one in the compound that knows her like this.
It reminds him of his lonely childhood when he would walk the golden halls of the palace alone, desperate for an ounce of the attention Thor was naturally given.
He gets the sudden urge to cause rampage like he did back then. Break treasured possessions, spread lies. But he's painfully aware that he's only at the tower as long as the Avengers want him there, so he behaves himself and tries to shove down the lonely howls from inside his chest.
***
Four days and seven excruciating encounters have to pass before she finally, graciously stands still long enough to let him speak to her.
It's a rainy afternoon and he's reading in the big winged chair by the fireplace when she unexpectedly comes into view.
She's walking back from the gym with her gaze fixed on the blonde man next to her, and as per usual, Loki's every muscle tightens by the sound of her voice alone, but this time it's for a whole different reason too because Steve Rogers is shirtless in all his virtuous glory and she's giggling at everything he's saying as they walk straight past Loki and disappear into the kitchen without sparing him a glance.
The silence that follows is deafening.
He knows that Rogers is the most vanilla man on Midgard - and definitely way too boring to satisfy her in bed - but the two of them have always been a little too chummy for his taste, so when Loki faintly hears Rogers call her sweetheart from the other side of the wall, there's no doubt he has to do something, so he pushes open the double doors to the kitchen, praying to the allfathers that he looks like a threat to the mighty Captain.
It's evident that Loki, ever so rudely, has just disturbed Rogers in the middle of a sentence but the guy is still so annoyingly polite that he nods respectfully in greeting.
Meanwhile, she only briefly looks up from her sandwich-in-the-making to shoot Loki an unimpressed glance before her eyes fall back down to her plate with a theatrical scoff. It makes Steve Rogers look curiously between the two of them with his eyebrows knitted closely together.
Loki gets the feeling that she's putting on an uncomfortable show only to get him to leave, but he's determined to talk to her so he stands his ground and starts flickering through the compound's tea selection achingly slowly just to piss her off.
"- what I mean is -" Steve Rogers continues as if Loki hasn't just barged in with daggers in his eyes. "I can teach you that leg takedown if you'd like? I'm sure Buck wouldn't mind sparring with Sam again some time later this week."
Loki pauses at Earl Grey and lets his gaze slip over to her.
"Yeah?" she hums with a cute little smile, "that sounds like fun. What about Tuesday?"
Her words have Steve Rogers nodding with excitement as he grabs his uninspiring ham-and-cheese sandwich from off the kitchen counter and walks towards the dining table in the next room. Even his tastebuds are bland. "It's a deal, sweetheart," he says.
Sweetheart. Loki's going to vomit.
He contains himself long enough to ensure the man's out of earshot until he angrily hisses out a "What are you doing?". He bites his tongue to stop himself from asking about whether she's interested in fucking the Captain or not. He has to tread carefully now that he finally has her on her own.
She sighs before looking up at him and he has to bite back a gulp when their eyes finally meet for longer than a tenth of a second. "...What do you want?"
"What do I want? I want to talk to you. I want to know what horrible thing I did to have you ignoring me like this!"
"I already told you," she crosses her arms over her chest. "You've gone soft."
"...Soft?" He repeats in disbelief while staring at her. Had this been any other situation, he might've even laughed. He's never been referred to as soft before. "Excuse me but did you hit your head?"
She rolls her eyes. "Don't pretend you haven't noticed."
"I have no idea what you're talking about."
"Loki..." she places her palms on the stone table top that serves as a physical barrier between them and looks him straight in the eye. It's dominatingly beautiful and it gives him the chills. "You've gone from hate-fucking me like a demon in heat to calling me your girl and telling me I'm beautiful."
"As if I would want to bed someone who looks like a trout!" He bites back, suddenly annoyed with her. She's right, of course, but it's not like he's about to let her know.
She responds to his clap-back with yet another sigh. "I thought we agreed it was a casual affair. No strings. And, granted, I hold some of the blame too; I probably should've stopped you when I started noticing your attitude towards me changing - I wasn't sure of anything, of course, but the slow-fucking?" She shoots him an unimpressed glance. "That one takes the cake!"
His mouth goes dry. "I don't understand what you're implying," he lies and it makes her scoff.
"Why can't you just admit that maybe the sex meant more to you than it did to me?"
He's taken aback by her bluntness. But it's her definitive use of the past tense that truly throws him off. He doesn't even have it in him to pretend otherwise, and with his silence, he's involuntarily admitting that the sex did indeed mean something to him. Exactly what, he's not sure of but something. He tries not to let it show.
"Loki," she cocks her head to the side with a lick of her lips and it makes it harder to pretend. "I'm not the girl for you. If you want to play house, I suggest you go find somebody else."
***
He dreams of black cats. Of Hel. Of feeling like the smallest man on earth while the Bifrost splinters before him and takes away the bridge to everything he loves.
It's been six days without a knock on his door. He shouldn't care that it's been this long - he doesn't, he constantly tells himself but keeps replaying their last conversation while the teeth of Fenrir sink into his lungs. He saved her - is that why she let him fuck her? Because she felt obligated to? Because of debt? It makes his heart burn.
"Loki."
He looks up at his brother and blinks a few times. Truth be told, he'd completely forgotten he was even there. "...What?"
"You're not listening."
"Yes, yes I was," he racks his brain for the last details he'd registered from Thor's gripping tale, but suspects he's been zoned out for at least five minutes.
Thor knits his eyebrows together, tilts his head disgustingly compassionately. "You're quiet," he states flatly and looks almost concerned. It makes the hairs on the back of Loki's neck prickle. He misses when Thor was less intuitive - before the Avengers, when all he cared about were tits and battle and wielding that stupid hammer.
"I don't remember asking your opinion."
"Just stating the obvious," Thor shrugs and thankfully goes back to the lamb chop on his plate, "one thing being that you're usually plotting something when you're this quiet - though something tells me your head is somewhere completely different as of late."
"Well if you want to keep yours connected to the rest your body, I suggest you keep your mouth shut."
His brother leans in close and looks as if he's about to say something vulgar. "It's her again, isn't it?" he whispers as if he doesn't dare speak her name.
"Thor," Loki warns with a sharp side-eye.
"You can tell me."
"I'm not going to."
"Why not?"
"Because you're being nosey."
"Can't I take an interest in my brother's well-being?"
"No. Now shut it!"
"I think she likes you."
It hurts more than he's willing to admit. "Thor!"
"But I do!"
"Shut up!"
He doesn't listen; "are you in love with her?"
A burning sea of vulnerability washes over him right in front of his brother's eyes while he desperately treads water. "She should be so lucky!" Loki hisses as a reflex and immediately feels his stomach churn when his brother grins and lifts his eyebrows in amusement.
"You are!"
Loki points his knife towards Thor, angrier than he's been in a while. "I'm only going to say this once! Stick your nose in my business and I will end you!”
***
They're on a mission in Vienna when Loki's knocked unconscious.
He doesn't remember much apart from an object hitting him on his upper back, a scream of his name - and suddenly, he's back on the rumbling quinjet with a splitting head ache.
He awakes with a groan and coughs up something black and slimy that he immediately spits out on the floor. Charming.
He's dizzy and he's seeing double but he wishes it was his sense of smell that was wonky because he can almost taste his brother's armpits in the air and it's revolting.
"Thor," his voice is hoarse and he coughs again while trying to remember how he ended up here. "What the hell happened?"
With difficulty, he tries lifting his head but is immediately pushed backwards by a hand already resting on his shoulder.
"You hit your head," his brother mumbles from beside him, "I had to carry you back here."
"Well that's embarrassing," Loki mumbles and tries moving his head again but hisses when his neck tenses painfully.
"Lie still," a small voice beckons. It's lighter than his brother's; more delicate, feminine, and the well-known flip of his insides shows its ugly face. Small fingers gently rub his shoulder and first then does he realise that it's not his brother's hand that's resting on his body.
"You're here?" He asks, confused while trying to focus on a spot in the ceiling. "And here I thought we were busy ignoring each other."
"I can keep doing so if you want me to," she says defiantly but sits completely still.
"Be my guest!"
"...Erm," Thor clears his throat in second-hand embarrassement, stands up from his position on the floor and points over his shoulder, "I have to - uh - be over... there."
Smooth.
The fingers that are resting on Loki's body feel more intimate now that they're alone, and he wonders if she can feel it too because she slowly retracts her hand although he wishes she wouldn't. A painful reminder of how she feels.
"Why are you here?" he bites.
"Thor was completely out of it," she says hesitantly, "He thought you were dead. He needed me."
"Thor needed you?” He scoffs, “Well, Thor's not here now so I guess you can leave."
She sighs loudly, "Do you really want me to leave?"
"Yes," he lies. He can still feel the warm spot that her fingers have left behind on his shoulder. It's getting colder now. "You made things quite clear the other day. It was a casual accquaintance, nothing else. There's really no need for you to pity me like this."
"You're hurt."
"I'm hurt? Yes I'm fucking hurt! It feels as if a bloody wall fell on me!"
"That's not what I meant..."
He moves his head through the pain, focuses on her the best he can. "Are you seriously fishing for a compliment right now?"
"W-what?"
"Do you want me to admit to whatever it is you're implying? It won't happen because contrary to your belief, I'm not in love with you." Another lie. "I saved you, you let me fuck you. We're even."
"That's not..." she starts but doesn't end her sentence. Her chest is heaving in heavy pants but she's not saying anything and the tension is thick again. She looks defiant but there's something she's not telling him.
"Was there something else?"
"No, I-"
"Then tell me what happened to my head or be on your way."
"I don't know what happened," she mumbles and gets up from the floor without sparing him a glance. "I wasn't there."
***
"It's a concussion," the new Doctor states the obvious and Loki has to contain himself from rolling his eyes.
"Great, can I go now?" He feels vulnerable enough without the diagnosis, and he's already half-way out the door - away from the prying eyes of the rest of the team.
"Hold up, mr Odinson," the Doctor says and the name feels like another dagger in his back. Loki wants to strangle him. "In your condition, it's important to take precautions."
"Don't tell me we have to start pampering him now!" Stark huffs and Loki's about to snarl something nasty back at him when Thor interrupts:
"Like what, Doctor?"
The Doctor turns back to Loki. "To prevent your condition from worsening, it's important that you take it easy for a couple of days. No TV, no straining exercise. You need rest."
"Right..."
"That being said, you have to make sure you're woken up every two hours. Have someone ask you a simple question like your full name, your birthday, the name of your home town."
"My home town?" He sighs. He doesn't want to think of Asgard right now. He feels lonely enough as it is.
"Something like that," the Doctor brushes it off with a shrug. "Do you have someone who can help you?"
"I assure you, that won't be necessary," Loki tries impatiently. He wants to get out of there. "After all, I am a God."
He can practically hear her rolling her eyes from behind him before she speaks up. "It's fine, Doc," she sighs, "I'll do it."
***
They're lying side by side on his mattress. It's three in the morning and it's the first time she's even in his room for anything other than sex. It's not not pleasant to be lying side by side in the dark, it's just different and neither of them know what to say. He doesn't like that she volunteered. He would've preferred dying in his sleep over the roaring silence.
He sneaks a quick peak at her beauty and accidentally lets out a sigh he thought only Thor was capable of and it seems to bring her to life.
She blinks and rolls over to her side, looks at him with distance in her eyes. "How are you feeling?"
"Dizzy..." he admits though he's not exactly sure if it's due to the concussion or being this close to her again.
"You should sleep," she says so achingly caring that it itches in his fingers to reach out and touch her. "- I'll make sure to wake you up every couple of hours and see if everything's okay."
He nods. "Sounds like you're in for a long night."
She gently shrugs and rolls onto her back again, stares back up at the ceiling. Her chest is rising and falling steadily and he doesn't understand how she can be so calm about the situation when it feels as if everything inside of him is burning with longing.
"Why did you volunteer?" the words tumble from his mouth without having been thought all the way through. "Why not just let Thor do it? He's my brother after all. He would've."
She chews her bottom lip, stares upwards as if stargazing. "I wanted to make sure you were okay."
She sounds sincere and he cannot help the furrow of his eyebrows. "Why?"
"Why?" She asks slowly, hesitantly. "Well... you've seemed out of it lately.”
"And you think it's your fault," it comes out more like a sour statement rather than a curious question so he's surprised to see pain behind her eyes when she finally turns her attention back on him.
"I know it is."
"Don't flatter yourself. I already told you it was merely sex for me. It didn't mean anything," he lies and regrets he even asked her in the first place. He wants to sleep. To get everything overwith and not stay in this moment of torture with her lying in his bed, rejecting him. Again.
"Come on," she sighs, "can't we just be honest for once?"
"You say that as if you've been dishonest...?"
"I guess I have," she hesitates and for once, he actually holds his tongue while she considers her next words. "I - uh - I get defensive when people get to close," she shuffles and looks away in embarrassement. "I guess it was easier to just push you away than admit to either of us what was going on. I tried telling you on the quinjet,” she slowly turns her gaze back on him with her eyes darting across his face. His heart picks up its pace.
"What are you saying?"
"Loki," she sighs and closes her eyes again. Speaks so painfully slowly that he almost cannot take it. "- you got close... When you slowed down and loved me that night, I - I felt it all. What I've been trying to deny."
"Felt what?" He tries as slowly as his racing pulse will allow him to speak. He doesn't want to scare her away again by assuming anything.
"I like you," she finally admits. "A lot."
Surprisingly, he's not even relieved. With the rollercoaster he's been through since he first met her, he's not sure he dares believe it, and a few seconds of silence follow between them while he carefully contemplates and chooses his next words.
On her request, he finally decides on telling her the truth. "I guess it wouldn't be too surprising if I admitted to the same thing."
She moves her head a little closer to him and places her hand between them. The smallest hint of a smile is playing on her lips. "Not really..."
A stab of a reminding thought pinches him beneath his ribs and he has to ask her. "You're not just saying this because you think you owe it to me, are you?" he nods to the scar on her shoulder "because I saved your life."
"No?" she furrows her eyebrows, searches his face.
"I don't want you to feel indebted to me. Despite what I told you back then, there were no ulterior motives to my actions. You don't owe me anything. I just did it to save you. I just wanted you to be okay.”
"Loki, I don't feel indebted," she lightly shakes her head. She looks sincere. "- do you really not remember what happened in Vienna?"
He slowly shakes his head. "Not really. An object hitting me in the back and someone yelling my name. Otherwise nothing."
"I did the yelling," she gulps, "and that object? That was a hand grenade."
"A hand grenade?"
She nods. Her eyes never leave his face. "You, me and Thor had just entered the grand hall of the embassy when it happened. You'd strayed off to the side to admire some painting."
It sounds like him.
"- I was behind you and saw it happen. It landed before your feet and without thinking, I just... lurched. Grabbed you and hurled the two of us forwards. You hit a stone column head-first."
He pulls back his head in surprise when he realises. “…you saved my life?”
It makes his blood pressure drop.
"Don't say it like that," she whispers with her breath fanning over his knuckles. "I merely gave you a concussion. The grenade turned out to be a squib after all."
"You didn't know that," he moves a little closer to her. She saved him and she's still here, still lying in his bed. It's not out of debt, he realises. Not at all. She's there because she wants to. "Darling... I don't know what to say."
"Don't say anything," she mumbles and opens her palm as if to welcome him. "Just kiss me, okay? I've missed you."
Everything inside of him goes soft. He feels squishy and warm and comfortable, and he could look at her forever.
He extends his fingers, engulfs her small hand inside his and dismisses the tension of his neck until their lips finally meet.
It's the gentlest they've ever kissed; lips barely touching, but it's the most heartfelt, the most sincere.
"I'm sorry for how I acted," she mumbles quietly against his mouth. "I really, really like you. I wasn't sure how to deal with that."
"It's okay," he whispers back, "we've all done things we're not proud of."
"Can you forgive me?"
"Of course," he smiles softly and reclaims her lips with the hope that he can show her exactly how crazy he is about everything that is her. His angry Avenger, his fiery goddess.
She saved him.
He feels the emotions pour out of both of them as their kiss deepens and he swears he can feel the allfathers blessing him as he jumps head-first into the burning sun; he can run with the wolves, fly with the ravens. And if Hugin and Munin are watching him from the great beyond, they'll tell all of Asgard that he, Loki Laufeyson, was worthy enough to be saved by a Valkyrie.
Dancing with Loki hc’s:
Tumblr media
“Alright the food is on the way…eughhhh I’m so tired” You fall onto the couch and closing your eyes for a second
“Gods me too…This week was something was so damn frustrating” Loki huffed out as he laid his back on the floor and ran his hands through his hair
There was a short silence as you both laid there in exhaustion
Loki sits up and looks at you “You want me to put on some music?”
“Not really…i feel like i’m going to fall asleep” Slurring your words as you slowly drift off
“But if we fall asleep now we might be up till late”
“I don’t care let me sleep” You murmured back
You hear Loki laugh to himself
He then tapped your forehead and you look up to see his tired expression, handing you a glass of water “You haven’t drank since you got home half an hour ago”
You smile and take the glass, finishing it entirely in mere seconds
“Cmon let’s danceeee, it will wake us up a little before the food gets here”
“hmmm noooo! please just let me rest” You groan, slamming your face with a pillow
Instead of leaving you alone to rest Loki had turned the speaker on, blasting some modern Asgardian music
“Loki turn it off pleaaeeeee” He didn’t listen and instead started dancing
You removed the pillow from your face and watch as your goofball of a boyfriend started putting his heart and soul into the silliest and goofiest dance moves you have ever witnessed
Smiling at his impressive moves you watched as Loki danced to the music
(ik yall have seen the behind the scenes of Loki S1 where Tom us busting some moves, so just imagine the same thing)
As the song ends and another pop song comes on, A midgardian one now, he extends his hand out, inviting you to dance
You smile and shake your head as you are still so genuinely tired
“Oh cmon darling! don’t leave me hanging now”he pouts at you but continues to shake his hips from side to side
You watch as he tries his best to get you up, but now you give in, moving your shoulders a little
His face lights up as you start moving a little…he grabs your hand and yanks you up, pulling you close to his chest. Staring into his eyes you smile and he twirled you around.
Laughing as you spun, you both started dancing to the cheesy pop song. You love this. Everything. Every time you’re with Loki. Every moment with him felt like you could swim, even when everything tries to drown you
The song comes to an end and you both are panting, exhausted from dancing.
Collapsing back onto the sofa, you continue to catch your breath when…”We can keep the christmas lights up till January”
“And this is our place, we make the rules”
Its you and Loki’s song
Opening your eyes, your met with a blushing Loki, hand reaching out to yours
Grabbing his hand, you stand and put your chest against his
“And there’s a dazzling haze, a mysterious way about you dear” Loki locks his eyes onto yours, his right hand on your waist, the other holding your hand, interlocking both your fingers
You both sway from side to side as the song continues to play, he swears you are the most perfect being in all of the nine realms, hell, the entire universe in fact, you were his, he was yours
“Have I known you 20 seconds or 20 years?…Can I go where you go” Loki twirls you around as the chorus starts playing, pulling you back in as face him again.
You rest your head on his chest and smile, enjoying this simple moment of love
“Can we always be this close forever and ever?” Loki leans you back, kissing you deeply. You grab his jaw, pulling him deeper. You stay like this for a moment before he pulls you back up and goes back to slow dancing, swaying you both side to side, twirling you here and there
“And ah, take me out, and take me home” He pushes you back onto the couch ever so slightly
He kisses you deep, hands on your waist, your own hands running through his beautiful hair. Oh his beautiful hair.
His knees presses in between your legs as his lips trail down your neck, marking you up, marking his pretty girl up with kisses
“You’re my, my, my, my…Lover” “L-Loki mhmph…” You call his name out as you become sensitive
The doorbell rang. Foods here! and things were just getting good…You push Loki off and grab the money to pay.
Setting the food down on the counter, you start unpacking the takeout packages when suddenly Loki grabs you by the waist
“Oh my darling not just yet, I want to dance some more…oh and! mark your pretty little body up before we eat…”
——————————————————————————
(a/n): hope yall enjoyed this! ik it’s been awhile but a lot of things have been happening in my life and i’m just doing my best to relax for a bit! Also Loki S2 Ep1 was amazing!!
Imagine #2: Confessing your love to them.
wordcount: 590
Love confession to your friend while he gets ready for a date
not beta-read
Tumblr media
“You sure I look alright, sweetheart?” he asks, running his fingers through his hair again. “It’s been so long since I’ve been on a date.” He mumbles.
Instead of replying, you are contemplating your whole existence. You’ve been in love with him for as long as you’ve known him, and for a while you thought the feeling was mutual. But alas, you didn’t have the balls to confess, and he hasn’t done so either. So, here you are, giving the boy you loved with your whole heart advice for his date with another girl.
Being so lost in thought, you didn’t notice his confusion at your silence. He knew you’ve been having a little rough time lately, but you haven’t been yourself for a few days. For a second he contemplates if its because of his date, but he quickly dismisses that thought.
“You know, if you’re not feeling well you don’t have to stay here. Its late and I know that you usually like to go to bed early. I don’t want to keep you up. I’m a big boy, I can handle myself.” He says earnestly.
You sigh softly, before looking up at him. He spots the pained look in your eyes and walks over to where you are sitting on his bed. Carefully, he cups your cheeks and looks at you with a gentle gaze.
“What’s going on in that pretty head of yours, sweetheart? You’ve been awfully quiet.” He asks softly, his thumb caressing your skin.
“I just…” you say hesitantly, looking into his mesmerizing eyes. “Are you sure you want to go on that date? She just… doesn’t seem like your type.”
“I don’t know, I just thought it was time for me to get out there you know. Is the date really what’s bothering you? Do you know her from something? Did she hurt you?” He asks, worried at the thought of someone hurting you.
“No not at all! She seems lovely.” You say hurriedly. “I guess I just always hoped… that I had a chance or something. I know its silly but…” You don’t finish your sentence immediately, trying to see his reaction, only to see him patiently waiting for you to finish. “I always hoped that at the end of the day it would be me you came home to, you know. That I’d be the one you kissed. And for a while I had hope that you felt the same, but I just got too insecure I guess.” You confess, closing your eyes as if to shield yourself from the possible rejection.
He lets out a soft chuckle, before pressing a soft kiss to your forehead. “You know, you have nothing to be insecure about sweetheart.” He says softly. “You are so incredibly kind, and creative. You are smart and helpful. You are beautiful and so incredibly fashionable.” He tells you with a cheeky grin as he tugs on the hello kitty sweatpants you are wearing. “You are everything a guy could want and much more. And I’ll be yours in a heartbeat, sweetheart. I just need you to say the words.” He confesses to you, looking into your eyes with a soft gaze.
“I am so incredibly in love with you. I have been forever and ever. Please let me be yours.” You tell him, almost begging.
“Took you long enough.” He teases, before connecting your lips in a soft kiss.
“I am so utterly in love with you too, sweetheart.” He mumbles, before continuing to press soft kisses to your lips.
Two: SOS
The quinjet crumbles over the South Pacific, leaving you and Loki floating helplessly towards a mysterious shore against the horizon, clueless as to where you are.
CONTENT WARNING: descriptions of plane crashes, injury, peril
MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
You were on a small island, spread out on the sand and soaking up rays. Sounds of crashing waves in the distance were slow and regular, the occasional caw of a gull overhead interrupted the peace. The best part was the salty smell of the shore. It tickled your nostrils as light spray from the ocean blew up and over your body.
A shadow fell over your face. Through your sunglasses, you could only see the silhouette of an Adonis blocking the sun. A welcome distraction…
Mmmmm, did you come over to be my umbrella or what, handsome?
“Y/N…” the stranger crooned.
You can lay over me like a beach blanket if you want…
“Y/N! Wake up!”
Bwuh?
You felt a sharp sting across your face.
Tumblr media
The quinjet was shaking. Loki was hovering over you. You’d fallen asleep in your seat, and it had been Loki that had brought you back to consciousness.
Rubbing the stinging spot on your cheek you suddenly felt, you looked at him indignantly. “Did you just HIT me?! While I was asleep?”
“Yes, blather about it later--”
Loki was interrupted as a jolt threw both of you onto the floor. You landed on top of Loki, forcing an ‘oof!’ from him as your landing shoved the air out of his chest. Your head landed on his chest, and through his clothes, you could feel his heart pounding against your ear.
“What the hell?” you screamed, staring angrily down at Loki, who was gritting his teeth underneath you. “What did you do?”
“The quinjet is falling out of the sky!” Loki protested, using his Asgardian strength to overpower you just enough to get you off of his hips. “And I had NOTHING to do with this!”
“What about--?!” You managed to crawl to the cockpit, where the poor, unassuming pilot lay unconscious (or perhaps already dead), on the floor under the console, a tributary of crimson blood pouring from his temple.
You screamed in horror, your hands flying to your mouth as Loki dove around you, grabbing for the controllers, attempting to discern what any of them did as the jet tossed and tumbled downward.
“Where are we?” you asked, still shrieking, the panic growing inside you.
“Over water, I think,” Loki answered. “It’s after midnight where we are, so we must be.” He tapped at a digital clock that changed with the time zones.
“Do you know how to fly this thing?!” you asked in horror as Loki fumbled and looked around, finally giving up and grabbing the controls.
“Nope!” he said, shooting a quick, menacing grin at you.
You nearly lunged for his head, prepared to rip his hair out of his scalp. If you were about to die, the least he could do was precede you and give you fifteen seconds of satisfaction (fourteen seconds more than you were sure he’d given any woman).
“Loki Laufeyson, this is not the time to start being a bitch!”
“Then stop trying so hard!”
Instead of leaning into your instinct to smack the insult right out of his mouth, you made a grab for the radio. “Mayday! Mayday! We’re going down over the south pacific! Mayday! Anyone out there read me?”
A brief flicker of static, followed by silence.
“MAYDAY! We’re going down! Help!” you screeched desperately into the useless radio. Frustrated, you chucked the receiver as far as it could be thrown while connected to its cord. It missed Loki’s face by inches, less if he hadn’t ducked.
A blinking map indicated that you weren’t too far from your destination. “We might be about five-hundred miles north of New Zealand,” you told Loki.
“No good!” he replied. “I may not know how to fly a craft like this, but even I can tell we won’t be able to glide that long…”
“What’s our altitude, then--”
A sudden explosion from behind you suddenly sent you both to the floor again. You felt the alarming sensation of being pulled toward the back of the plane. The event had torn off the side of the jet, and in addition to being sucked upward as the pressure relieved, the jet was now in a tailspin.
“FUCK!” Loki hollered, gripping the base of the pilot’s chair for dear life. Analyzing the situation, he reached out for your hand.
“What the hell are you--?”
“--this is our stop!” he said. “Come on…we might be low enough to survive if we jumped together--”
“--you really think I could trust you right now, or ever, Laufeyson?!” you fought back, refusing his offer.
“Oh for Norn’s sweet sake!” he cried out in anger, choosing to dive for you instead, managing to grapple your waist and release your grip on the chair.
He took you in his embrace as you both fell out of the plane and into freefall in the air. All you could see was black, and all you could hear was silence. Even you had given up on screaming for your life. Loki had killed you, and your only hope now was to get revenge by throwing spitballs at him in hell.
He released your body, but held onto your hand as your bodies spread out horizontally, only slightly slowing your fall with resistance.
You closed your eyes and began to pray to whatever god could spare you. “Jesus…Buddha…Yahweh…Tom Hanks…”
 At the same moment, Loki shot a bolt of green magic downward. The trail of light indicated only a few dozen feet to the ocean below. The same bolt began to churn where it landed, creating a small circle of tempest.
“Aim for it!” Loki ordered. You couldn’t hear him anymore over the choir of angels you swore you began to hear.
Finally, after centuries of freefall, you landed in the water with relatively little pain. Loki had apparently known to break the surface tension of the ocean with his spell. The only disturbance you felt was the burning in your lungs as you realized you hadn’t taken a deep breath before entry. Your travel companion had released your hand, but after a moment, you felt yourself artificially begin to rise. Again, Loki was illegally using magic to rescue you, bringing you up just in time for a huge, welcome breath.
Small orange bursts, followed by loud crackles, crashes, and booms, illuminated the sky. Soon enough, large, pounding splashes around you made the adrenaline flow increase in your head, whispering survivalist directions to you.
“Swim away! Out of the debris zone!” you cried out to wherever Loki could be.
Fortunately, your swimming ability was quite good, although your stroke technique could have used work. You scrambled away from the immediate area of water. Thankfully the ocean itself seemed calm, the only disturbance coming from the littering of quinjet parts as the bigger pieces of machinery landed around you.
You lost Loki, not that you cared either way in the moment.
Adrenaline kept the exhaustion at bay as you alternated between treading water and stroking away from the epicenter of the crash. Finally, the last big explosion hit the surface, sending you tumbling underneath the large waves that scattered outward. You hand grazed something that you couldn’t see at first.
It was part of one of the wings, the metal cool enough to touch without harm but still warm from the blast. Appreciative, you immediately scrambled onto the slab of metal, starfishing out on your stomach as you gracelessly rolled onto the makeshift raft. You looked up, hoping that you could see Loki swimming to safety in another direction…
…hoping to see Loki? How quickly adrenaline drove you to insanity!
You began floating away from the flaming wreckage as parts began to sink. “L…Loki?”
Unsure why your chest was only now getting heavy, you bit your lip and looked around nervously. Admittedly, your normally-perfect vision was obscured by darkness, fire blasts, and choppy waves. Seeing anyone in the water would have been impossible.
“Oh my god, Loki!” you screamed, cupping your hands around your mouth. “LOKI?!”
Could gods still drown?
“Shit! Shit! Shit!” you began chanting, looking around for any small piece of wreckage that you could perhaps use as an oar to row closer.
Thirty endless minutes went by, and you realized you were likely alone in the middle of the largest body of water on Earth. You felt an empty pit in your stomach, as well as a wave of exhaustion as your survival hormones ran down.
The slightest peek of pink lined the eastern horizon before too long. Morning approached, and things were calming down. You observed the 360-degree horizon, and your eye caught on to an irregularity near the dawning light: a silhouette. A shoreline. Perhaps only a mile and a half away!
Praise be to Tom Hanks!
Suddenly, the wing shifted under you, gently tossing you as Loki clung to the side. “Sorry I’m late,” he said with sincerity. “Asgardian bodies are slightly denser than humans.”
Your heart leapt, and you weren’t sure why. Loki saw your mouth drop open, and his instantly curled into a sly smile. “Were you worried for me, darling?”
You pursed your lip, crawling over as he struggled to climb onto the wing. You put a firm hand on each of his shoulders, and he only had enough time to determine your mood before you shoved him back into the ocean, his eyes widening in surprise just before his face dipped below the surface again.
The large, dramatic splash he made satisfied you. “Worried you didn’t drown faster, jerk,” you mumbled.
Tumblr media
The summer sun was bearing down on both of you before you got to the distant shoreline you’d spotted. You were exhausted, using a piece of debris as a paddle while Loki barely did anything.
“I hit my head the second time you threw me off the side,” Loki moaned half-heartedly. “I wouldn’t be of any use to you.”
“And that makes today no different from any other, Loki.”
He smirked, playing with a hangnail on his left middle finger. “I feel at home already!”
The sun was nearly overhead when the debris-raft landed on the beach at last. You and Loki both rolled off the chunk of metal, exhausted, and laid on either side of it in the sand, face down. For the moment, both of you were just happy to be on solid ground, and alive.
The sand was gritty and nearly too hot to bear for long. The heat was already drinking away the water beading your legs, leaving a layer of crusty salt behind. Everything around you, aside from Loki’s heavy breaths on the other side of the wing fragment, was quiet. The waves lapping at the shore were shallow. No animal, bird, or gust of wind broke the tranquility. You were tempted to fall asleep…perhaps you did nod off momentarily…
“...Y/N, get up.”
Finally, you sat up at Loki’s rude voice. “What?” you asked, half-dazed.
He’d gotten bone-dry in the time it took you to orient yourself. For the first time, you noticed what he was wearing, as it was crusted with sand, salt, and even some bits of dried seaweed. Loki had dressed down, wearing a pine-green thermal shirt one size too small and dark denim pants. His hair was plastered to the sides of his face, but most of it had been tied back in a low, simple braid that was still somewhat intact. He’d chosen at least some comfort over style, but the material was heavy. After all, it was winter in New York.
Meanwhile, your blue angora sweater and maxi skirt felt absolutely awful, especially now that they’d been waterlogged. The feeling of the damp hair against your body made you cringe. One of your kitten heels was missing, and the other sure wasn’t going to last long in this environment.
Loki’s head was silhouetted against the light, and you couldn’t look directly at him.
“We need to get the Hel out of here,” he said, his voice low and serious. It didn’t sound natural to you. “I’m going to send up a signal--”
“--hold it right there, buster!” you held up a hand as you got to your feet. You felt unsteady on your legs; they felt like jelly.  “But I believe your magic is illegal without UN approval, as per the terms of your parole.”
He rolled his eyes, looking away from you with annoyance. “You don’t think now would be a qualified emergency? I’ve used it twice already, you know, and both times were to save your tight ass.”
You looked beyond him, at the line of trees and bushes that concealed whatever jungle lay beyond. Towering above you by what had to be a few hundred feet was a large rock formation. Palm trees and hanging vines were everywhere. “Loki…we may be about as lost as we could possibly be on this planet. It might be futile.”
“You can’t possibly know that,” he scoffed. “We were only a few hundred miles from our destination.”
He really did think he knew everything about Earth, didn’t he? After only being here for just under two years, no less.
“You stupid ass,” you growled, “It’s the South Pacific, where the most isolated islands on Earth are! Some are too small and isolated for most planes to see!”
“And your point is? They will come looking for us, and the GPS on the quinjet--”
“---was likely destroyed.”
The look on your face must’ve struck some kind of chord with Loki, for he didn’t add anything more. “I thought so,” you said, happy with his momentary silence. You looked back out over the water. There wasn’t much indication of a plane wreck nearby. Perhaps some of your things would find their way to shore?
“How do we even know this is an isolated island?” you asked, second-guessing yourself. “For all we know, this is an actual country where people live, like the Marshall Islands or Guam or something…”
“If there are people here, then why haven’t they sent someone to find us, or to at least investigate the falling fireball from last night?” Loki challenged, crossing his arms across his broad chest. “Perhaps they’ve been observing us from the bushes, took one look at you, and ran off.”
You sucked in your breath. “I don’t appreciate the snark,” you replied quietly. You flipped your head again, looking back toward the crag. “I guess I can get up there and see more of this place, get my bearings…maybe if there’s people, we can get help.”
“You?” scoffed Loki, looking you up and down, “Climb a cliff? In that outfit?”
“What choice do I have?” you shrugged, starting to walk up the beach, limping on your one show.
“You can’t go into the jungle with one shoe!” Loki laughed.
“Watch me, asshole,” you mumbled under your breath. When he raised a skeptical eyebrow, you responded by indignantly pouting your lips and taking off your sweater (what a relief!). You wore a white satin cami underneath, so at least you weren’t showing Loki anything he didn’t deserve to see. You wrapped the sweater around your bare foot, the soft fabric feeling a bit more welcome around that one area.
After setting your makeshift sock, you spun on your single heel and marched off into the forest, Loki shaking his head with a playful smile and following you from several paces behind.
Loki Laufeyson.
The man of your dreams. Or, should you say, the god of your dreams.
Ever since he had reluctantly joined the Avengers last year, you couldn’t get him out of your head. The jet-black hair that fell in cascades, providing a brilliant contrast to the alabaster skin of his face, stretched tautly over sharp cheekbones and a chiseled jaw. You’d idly wondered if you could indeed cut yourself on his cheekbones – and what his jaw might taste like – and you were slightly embarrassed at just how badly you wanted to find out.
Then there were his eyes – were they emerald green? Or perhaps ocean blue? You could never quite decide. Their gorgeous color seemed to ebb and shift just as much as the crystalline tides. Regardless of their color, they always appeared to be sparkling with mischief; glinting with the thoughts of his next scheme. And Loki usually wore some kind of impish smile to complement his twinkling eyes; you swore the way his lips twisted into those cunning smirks could bring you to your knees – not that you’d be complaining about being in that position…not for him, anyway.
Sigh. Your thoughts hadn’t even wandered below his neck yet, and you were already in need of a cold shower. Was he even aware of the hold he had on you?
Sometimes, you suspected that he knew. You were fast friends after he joined the team and moved into the tower, and not long after, you began to consider him your best friend. The two of you spent countless hours together – almost every free moment you both had to spare. Your time spent with him came with inevitable physical contact - innocent brushes of fingertips as you’d both reach for the last snack, warm hugs, and intimate contact while sparring. Sometimes, even, the occasional wrestling-match-turned-tickle-fight. Each touch, no matter the context, lit your skin on fire, burning with your desire for more. The conversations you had with him were often laced with innuendo; he’d make a suggestive remark and his lips would curl into a devilish grin as he watched the blush blossom over your neck and cheeks.
But – you told yourself – it didn’t mean anything; that’s just who he was: a relentless flirt. He’d often brag of his sexual exploits back on Asgard (which would also cause you to blush and choke on your drinks), and it was clear that Loki Laufeyson had quite the queue of women at his bedroom door, hoping for the chance to spend a night of passion with him. Perhaps there was some mild attraction, but there was no way he would ever have genuine interest in someone like you. How could he, when he was so damned perfect? And you were, well… you.
Last Christmas was his first “Midgardian Christmas” as he liked to call it. You had fond memories of showing him the traditional customs – decorating, wrapping gifts, watching Christmas movies, drinking hot chocolate, and you even got him to join in on some Christmas caroling. Your favorite memory from last year, though, was when he showed you his apartment at the Avengers tower. You had been inside before, of course, but he was so excited to show you how he decorated it himself, using what he learned after you had dragged him along with you to help decorate every other nook and cranny of the compound…
“Do you like it, darling? Did I live up to your rigorous standards?”
“Loki…” you gasped, “This is breathtaking!”
He beamed. “Well, I did have a masterful teacher.”
There was that damned smirk again.
“You’ve given it your own… flavor, too, I see.”
“There was no other option, Y/N. Midgardian Christmas decor consists of entirely too much red for my taste,” he remarked with a cringe. “It really is quite tacky. I’ve taken a more… elegant approach.”
“But what about holly berries? Candy canes? Poinsettias? Red ribbon, even?”
“What was that song you taught me last week? White Christmas? Well in here, darling, we have a Green Christmas, take it or leave it.”
Pulling yourself back to the present moment, you chuckled at the memory. Of course he couldn’t stand to see so much of his brother’s colors in his own quarters. Loki’s room was immaculately adorned with festive decorations, and not a speck of red could be found. The green fir tree in the corner was spectacularly embellished with glittering bulbs of the brightest emerald, silver, and gold. White lights and silver tinsel added to the sparkle, and nestled at the precipice was a beautifully ornate silver spinning wheel, a symbol of his mother, Frigga. The windows in his room were frosted, even though it hadn’t snowed that day, and when you approached them to investigate, you noticed they were not cold to the touch. Loki had frosted them himself, using his power as a Jotun, and then used his seidr to seal them so the frost would not melt, nor would the unwelcome chill seep into the cozy room. Hanging in each of the frosted windows was a green wreath, each one complete with a golden bow and a flickering candle. His usual black furniture and rich, emerald green soft furnishings throughout the room brought the entire look together. It was warm and inviting, but also strong and dark – just like him.
Here you were, daydreaming of that Green Christmas last year, and the nights you would have liked to spend in his room… in his bed.
It just wouldn’t do any more. Being best friends wasn’t enough; you needed more. Christmas was all about letting people know how much you love them, right? You resolved that you would tell Loki your true feelings for him on Christmas Eve.
---------------------------------------------
Christmas Eve arrived in the blink of an eye, and you’d never been more nervous in your life. You had rehearsed over and over again the words that you would say to him, but you feared it wouldn’t be enough. Or maybe it would be too much? Would it scare him away? Would you lose his friendship, that was so dear to you?
Stop it. You could do this.
You picked up the emerald green box adorned with a golden bow, which contained your gift for him. You had gotten him a simple and elegant tie clip, made of platinum, with a single emerald inlaid on the end. It had made you think of him right away when you saw it in the jewelry store, your mind immediately wandering to the thought of him in his all-black suit and tie combo, with that tie clip displayed proudly against his chest.
With the gift box in hand, you began your pilgrimage to his private quarters, where you had plans to do your gift exchange. As you approached the door, the flutters in your stomach increased their tempo from allegro to prestissimo; the blood pounding in your ears rose to a deafening crescendo. You audibly exhaled, trying desperately to catch your breath, and your hand trembled as it made its descent to give a shaky knock on the door. Your body was a perfect symphony of nervousness.
Loki promptly answered with his signature bright smile and twinkling eyes.
“Come in, come in, darling!” He beamed as he wrapped you in a warm embrace and placed an innocent kiss to your cheek that set your insides ablaze, “I’ve just finished up a fresh batch of hot chocolate for us to share.”
“Thank you, Loki, that sounds wonderful.” You placed his gift under the tree, next to a slightly larger one that you presumed was for you.
“Is everything alright, Y/N?”
Dammit. You had tried your best to cover your nerves, but he knew. He always knew with you.
“Yes, Loki, I promise everything is fine,” you assured him with the best smile you could muster, “but I do actually have something to talk to you about, if you wouldn’t mind sitting down.”
“Of course, darling, what is it?”
He made his way over to the sofa next to you, his brows knitting together and his oceanic orbs swirling with concern.
Here goes nothing…
“Loki, you mean so much to me; you’ve been my best friend at the compound practically since the moment you arrived. You’re my favorite person to spend time with, no matter what it is we are doing together. In fact, even when I’m not with you, I find my thoughts drifting to you, frequently during the most inopportune times. You’re often the last thing I’m thinking about when I drift off to sleep at night, and the first thing I’m thinking about when I wake up in the morning. I can’t keep pretending any more, Loki. I’ve fallen in love with you; irrevocably, maddeningly in love.”
You were avoiding eye contact, your fingers twiddling nervously with the hem of your skirt. The silence was deafening. Was he going to say something?
Just as you gathered the nerve to look up at him, you noticed that he had risen from the sofa and was walking towards the tree, with his back to you. Now you’d gone and done it; he was completely uncomfortable, avoiding you, even. You stood up from your seat on the couch, and began walking towards the door, rambling along the way.
“I - I’m so sorry, Loki. I’m sure that was uncomfortable, and maybe crossed a line and I just hope we can still be friends, but I understand that you need some space and I’ll  “
You gasped as a strong hand wrapped tightly around your wrist, preventing you from leaving and interrupting your nervous rambling.
“Y/N, just wait a minute. You didn’t open your gift yet.” His eyes gazed at you softly as he handed you the green box you had spotted earlier under the tree.
Your small hands shook as you pulled at the ribbon and lifted the lid, revealing the most beautiful gold necklace, with a single charm hanging from the chain – a dazzling emerald, surrounded by a halo of smaller diamonds.
“Loki…” you whispered, “It’s so… it’s stunning, but it is too much!”
“Read the note, darling.”
You retrieved the small piece of paper that was placed strategically underneath the beautiful necklace, and unfolded it. You were greeted with Loki’s familiar handwriting.
Merry Christmas, Y/N. I’m so incredibly grateful that you’re in my life, and it is my highest hope that you will allow me to court you, and I offer you this necklace in my colors, as a symbol of our courtship, should you accept it. I love you, darling. xx Loki
Your eyes widened as you stared from the note back up to him.
“I’ll take that as a yes, then?” he asked coyly, with an arrogant smirk.
You nodded furiously; it was as if you momentarily had forgotten how to speak.
With a flick of his wrist and a twirl of his elegant finger, you were wrapped in a tendril of green light and pulled across the floor, and right into his arms, closing the gap that was between you. Before you could express your surprise at his gesture, his hands found their way to either side of your head, his thumbs brushing gently against your rosy cheeks, and he tilted your head so that his lips could meet yours. The kiss was soft at first, your lips exploring each other gently for the first time. Soon, though, the desire you both were harboring became evident, and the kiss grew heated, his tongue prodding your lips, begging for entry, which you easily granted. When he finally released you, you were both panting heavily, trying to catch your breath.
“I hope that was okay?” he questioned, slight concern gracing his breathtaking features.
“Trust me, it was more than okay,” you quipped, tugging on the collar of his sweater, “Now where were we?”
Your lips joined in another passionate kiss, and your heart leapt with unbridled joy. He wanted you to wear his colors. He was yours.
Your wish for a Green Christmas came true.
