New favorite ep of the season acquired the moment it opened. Some shippy rambling in the live blogging ahead.
If you know me at all, you know right off the bat that I AM UNHINGED ABOUT THIS EPISODE.
NATPEGGY YASSSSSSSSSSSSSS
THE BACKSTORY INTRO!
"What are new friends for?"
THEM SHOWING OFF THEIR MOVES TO EACH OTHER !!!!!
Wasp, too??? Yasss, all the ladies!!!!!!!!!!
Peggy and Nat already working so well together in combat and the level of trust that already exists between them, I just--slkdjflasdjfklajflajlfkjas
Them sassing Loki !!!!!!
Intro credits: Elizabeth Olsen???? Wanda's here, too????? Super spoiler alert: I waited so long for her to show up 🤣
Me and the Watcher feel the same about Captain Peggy Carter <3
The role reversal when Peggy picks up Nat in that slick ass car while Nat's running... guhhhhhh.
I am here for all versions of evil Steve, including brainwashed.
SCRUFFY SKINNY STEVE!
CA: TWS parallels got me in my feels, too. Peggy/Nat is THE SHIP for me, but there's something about Peggy/Steve that hits just right the same way as Tony/Pepper, Steve/Tony, and Steve/Bucky.
The framing of these shots got me--Peggy in the background pissed because she wasn't told about the rumors of the Hydra Stomper, while Nat (listening) definitely knew about Steve:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AHHH, PEGGY'S FACE WHEN SHE REALIZED NAT KNEW:
Tumblr media
AND DIDN'T TELL HER:
Tumblr media
SDALKFJLAKJFLAJS
Natasha quipping "Didn't see the point in breaking your heart twice," fucked me up, oh.
DILF old man Bucky <3 Bucky getting to grow old!!!! WIBBLES.
Guess it's gonna take both of the loves of Steve's Rogers life to get through to him? lmaooo
Peggy is the perfect mirror of Captain America Steve. In goodness, selflessness, AND their particular brand of self-righteous selfishness. I love both of them for it, but especially Peggy <3
Bucky standing up and saying Steve would be stupid enough to do the same for him. 😭 Bucky trying to get through to Steve. 😭
"What can I say, Peg? I'm a sucker for a good love story." Damn, that hurts for a million different reasons. oh, Nat. <3
UMMMM the way Nat sits back and says, "You know, I always wondered how you got all those G.I. boys to follow a woman into war? Question answered." !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BRAIN EMPTY! ONLY PEGGYNAT! And Nat couldn't be more obvious if she tried, but she does it so well and Peggy is distracted.
Tumblr media
Are you kidding me with the framing of this shot?
Tumblr media
I feel like it's foreshadowing but IT SCREAMS pining. A lot of pining:
Tumblr media
Barton introduced Peggy to dad rock <3 fuck yes
Widow bites interrupting the kiss, lol.
Peggy being a weak point for Nat, to the point Nat gets nabbed by widow bites, JFC.
Peggy will die for Steve, the same way Steve would have died for Bucky--ughhh I do not like but I understand.
"Mission accomplished." !!! Hot damn, that was slick, A++, AND Nat tells Peggy she doesn't want to fight about it. 😏
THERE WAS A MUSICAL!
BAMF Melina. Love to hate her when she's on the wrong side, parent/child issues me in a weird way these days and this ep got under my skin.
But also: guhhhhhh these Widows.
"This isn't us! I am done fighting, Steve. [drops shield] I have been fighting for so long: to end the war, to forget what I lost. I'm… I'm tired." oh, Peggy.
oh, Steve.
oh, Nat.
This ep got me in the feels, all of them.
Peggy going back for Nat AND them running out together <3
Ugh, Nat and her transparent, "Okay. Let's hit the road." Just: THEM.
...and oops, Peggy's gone.
But then! OOOO, this Fury! AND FINALLY, WANDA!!!!!
Overall: similar in ep 4 in that it was close to the emotional impact of Stephen's ep in the first season but still missed the mark (and tbh the Tony ep hit harder, but more because of Tony's characterization--Peggy is fairly consistent, Tony is not, so getting him so right (for me) was incredible). I adore this ep, I love Peggy, I love Nat, I enjoy this universe, and I hope we visit their universe again (if not, there's always fanfic, my beloved).

Feel Right
Warnings! Cheating, little bit of angst, smut, small mommy kink.
Summary: You’ve had a crush on natasha for years, but she’s dating Steve. What will happen?
A/n: i need to work on writing longer fics 😭
Tumblr media
Natasha, the girl you loved. The girl who was in love with a man who didn't love her. It seriously ached your heart seeing her heart be crushed by him every day. Steve was his name, you hated him and that girl he's always with. She had been dating him for a few months now, at first the relationship seemed so good it genuinely gave you zero hope of finally being with the woman you love. Seeing him run around with that Peggy girl really pissed you off. You never said anything to Natasha because you didn't want to see her soul crushed, but you're on the verge of almost letting it slip.
Wanda, your neighbor and best friend, invited you over early to set up for your monthly catch-up lunch with Natasha. You were surprised though when Natasha came through the door, with Steve. Wanda seemed disappointed that it wouldn't just be the three of you, but also didn't seem to mind because the three go back. They all used to be good friends in high school, but going off to college and Steve joining the military kind of separated the group.
Wanda was aware of your crush; she could see it the moment you met her. She could see the way you looked at Natahsa all too clearly. She finally asked you one day, before meeting up with Natasha. You denied it, but eventually her teasing got to you. It honestly helped you and Wanda grow close.
You all had sat around the table, air slightly tense. Wanda broke the tension by speaking first, "It's nice to see you Steve, how have you been?" She questioned in a half genuine, half sarcastic tone. "Oh well, not too crazy. Just work stuff, and Nat." You had to hold back your scoff. Wanda could already suspect your anger for the man being here.
Steve's phone rang, and you watched him carefully as he scurried to answer his phone. You gave Wanda a look, then he excused himself in a hurry. He gave Natahsa a side hug, not even a kiss. You watched the sadness on her face, only causing your heart to hurt.
"Nat, are you okay?" You broke the silence, her face relaxing. "Yes, things have just been" she paused, "off." You watched Wanda's face quickly turn to a worried look. "Welp, since it's just us girls why don't we spend our time well together! We can watch a movie and have some wine." Natasha's face lit up with a smile, bringing a smile to yours.
Time had passed, and you were saying your goodbyes. Standing on Wanda's porch with Natasha, you asked her if she would like you to walk her home which she declined. "Are you sure Nat? I really don't mine." She shook her head, "It's fine Y/n, it's not like I live three neighborhoods away." She giggled, to which you sighed in defeat. "Fine."
You and Natasha departed, but it didn't take long for her to show up at your door with tears streaming down her face. "Natty, what's wrong?" She tried to choke out an answer, but she couldn't, so you just pulled her into your house. You gave her a moment to breathe, then asked her again. 'Steve, he" her hesitation to tell you gave you an idea of the situation. "Steve was cheating on me in my own bed!" She choked out. You pull her body into your arms and hold her.
It had taken a while for her to calm down, but glass, after glass of wine calmed her till she was a giggling mess in your arms. She looked, into your eyes then something in her snapped. Her lips eagerly met yours. "Nat, why did you do that?" She looked at you and smiled. "It felt right, you feel right." Your eyes widened in shock at her words. Had you heard her correctly? Is she thinking incorrectly?
She scooted her body closer to yours, placing her hands on your face drawing you lips closer to hers. She sealed your lips for a second time, this time only with more passion. "I need you Y/n, I need to have you right now. I can't believe it's taken this for me to realize, but I'm in love with you." You sat in shock, but you were also happy.
You quickly climbed onto her lap, reclaiming her lips back onto yours. Her hands roam your body, causing moans to escape your throat. You grind your hips into her, whimpering as she slips her tongue into your mouth. She slowly drags kisses down you neck, and collar. Eagerly you remove your shirt, and she helps you take your bra off.
She slides her tongue down your breast, circling it around your nipple. Taking the mound into her mouth, pulling moans from you. "Tasha please." She looked up at you, " What baby? Tell me what you want." You reluctantly spoke out, "Please Natty I need you to fuck me." She quickly swapped your positions, so you were laying under her. She slowly unbuttoned your pants, pulling them down with your panties.
She kneeled in front of your core, sticking out her tongue dragging it up and down your slit. She worked her tongue and mouth on your pussy, sucking and licking on your clit. She caught you off guard when she slipped her fingers in you, moving them at a slow agonizing pace. Her pace quickened, and your moans got louder. "That feel good baby? You gonna cum on mommy's fingers?" Her words caused you to clench around her digits, and she let out a soft chuckle.
She sped her thrust up, causing you to scream out as your orgasm crashed through. She moved her fingers slowly, helping you ride out your orgasm. She removed her fingers from your dripping cunt, sucking off your juices. You went to reach for your clothes until she stopped you. "I'm not done with you yet baby."
The following day you woke in her arms, to her phone ringing nonstop. You softly nudge her awake. She got her phone and sighed, "It's Steve I better answer and tell him we're over." You listened carefully at what she was saying to him, 99% of it was just her shouting at him. You were happy though, she was finally yours and you were finally hers. You could not wait to tell Wanda!

If you weren’t planing on writing it (and as your request are still open I’m going to take advantage of that sorry) can you write your idea of reader being Peggy and dottie daughter and dating Nat but mostly dottie gets overprotective?
Meet The Carters
Pairing: Peggy Carter x Daughter! Reader, Dottie Underwood x Daughter! Reader, Natasha Romanoff x Reader || High School AU.
Summary: When your mother, Peggy, discovers you have a girlfriend, she asks you to bring her to dinner. When your other mother, Dottie, lays eyes on the girl you've been dating, things take a turn.
Angst, Fluff
Warnings: Mentions of Red Room, Overprotective Parent?? Slight Mention of Child Abuse (reader being abandoned and malnourished), Nat is 17, Reader is 16 | K
AC: I finally got around to writing this! At first, I was writing it as a drabble but I got carried away and now it’s a full fic lmao! I hope you enjoy! x
Tumblr media
You were unpacking your study books from your backpack when your mother knocked on the door, chewing on an apple slice, she smiled softly at you.
"Who was that you were hugging just now?" She asked in her thick British accent as she leaned against the door frame. Your cheeks felt warm as you turned to face your mother. "Just a friend" you replied.
You've been dating Natasha for a few months now, it was still rather new and not a lot people knew, just a few friends. Natasha is a year older than you and you weren't too sure how your mothers would react to the small age gap or how they would react to you dating in general.
"Oh, come on sweetie, I know a friendly hug when I see one and that wasn't one" you Peggy tease as she took a seat at the end of your bed and watched as you set your homework on your desk ready to tackle after an afternoon snack.
"Were you spying on me?" You asked with a cocked brow. Your mother chuckled, "I'm afraid that noticing things is a huge part of my job that now just comes naturally outside of work. So, come on, who is she?"
You couldn't help the growing smile that took over your face, you took a seat next to your mother. She was always the one you got along with a little better. You loved Dottie but sometimes you felt she was a little harder to connect with than Peggy. "Her name is Natasha" you answered, blushing more than you wanted to show.
"Natasha" Peggy repeated, "How about you invite her to dinner tonight, we'll have pizza and a movie. I want to meet this girl who's making you turn redder than tomato" she added. Playfully, you rolled your eyes but agreed to ask her.
----
When Dottie came home from work, she hugged you tightly as if it would be the last time she would hug you but you didn't think too much of it and asked how her day was.
"It was, well, work. How was your day?" she replied. She never spoke about her job or what she did. In fact, you never knew what she did for a living, you once asked when you were around six years old, and she told you she as like mommy and helps take the bad guys off the streets, but her job was super-secret and only mommy knew about it. You never asked her about it again after that.
You were only a year old when Peggy found you abandoned in a dark alley way. She took you to the hospital and called child services, she stayed by your side the entire time you were in the hospital. You were malnourished and very underweight for a baby of your age. When the time came for you to be released from hospital and into the care of child services, Peggy couldn't bare somebody else taking care of you and that's how Peggy became your mother. You were two years old when Dottie and Peggy got married and now you have two mothers.
"Oh you know, school is, well, school" you replied to tease.
"Very funny" Dottie cocked a brow, "why has mom got the dinner table set?" She asked when she noticed the table was set for four instead of three. You sat down on the sofa and picked up the television remote before working up the nerve to tell her who was coming over. "Uhm, well, my girlfriend is joining us for dinner tonight, it was mom's idea" you replied quickly turning the TV on.
"Girlfriend? Since when?" Dottie frowned. You chewed your bottom lip, "Since four months ago" you kept your eyes on the TV only to be saved by Peggy just before Dottie could ask anymore questions.
"Honey, your home!" She smiled, placing a kiss on her wife's lips.
"Who is this girlfriend that is coming over?" Dottie asked before Peggy dragged her into the kitchen. You couldn't hear much but little whispers here and there. You knew that Peggy was telling Dottie not to overreact and that there would be a time when you would bring somebody home to meet them.
You tried to listen more but a knock at the door made your stomach flutter with nerves as you got up to answer it. Natasha smiled softly in her leather jacket, jeans, and black tee. "I hope I'm not late" she spoke. You shook your head, "early actually, the pizza hasn't arrived yet" you smiled as you invited her in.
"Just a heads up, Peggy is excited to meet you and Dottie, well, I'm not too sure how she feels. She just found out a moment ago that I had a girlfriend" you rambled. Natasha placed a kiss on your cheek, "it'll be okay" she whispered.
Your mothers came out of the kitchen, Peggy smiled instantly while Dottie's eyes widened. You didn't want to say anything, but it disappointed you that she wasn't even ready to give Natasha a chance to show how amazing she was.
"You must be Natasha, it's lovely to meet you" Peggy greeted your girlfriend.
"Y/n didn't mention you were English" Natasha replied, lying of course.
"Oh, yes. England born and raised" your mother smiled once more, "this is my wife, Dottie. Don't mind her, she's had long day at work" she added as Dottie stepped forward to shake Nat's hand. She noticed the look of worry on your face and for your sake gave the red head a soft smile, "it's lovely to meet you" Dottie said.
"Thank you both for having me over tonight, it's a pleasure to meet you both" Natasha replied.
----
You and Natasha sat across from your parents while the four of you chatted and ate pizza, neither one of your mothers were great cooks so you were glad it was take-away night for Natasha's sake.
"You mentioned you moved to Ohio, where were you before that?" Dottie asked. If looks could kill, Natasha would've been dead the moment your mother laid eyes on her. During the entire dinner you noticed that your mother was very focused on Natasha while Peggy was more laid back and enjoyed your girlfriend's company.
"I was actually born in Russia and my family moved to Ohio because of my father's work" Natasha replied, keeping strong eye contact with your mother who didn't seem to relax.
"Well, Y/n didn't mention you were Russian!" Peggy commented with a chuckle as she referenced Natasha's first comment to her earlier in the night. Natasha chuckled, "Russian born and raised, kinda" she replied. Dottie excused herself from the table, using the excuse to use the bathroom but you knew it was just a way for her to leave the room. You followed after her, Peggy taking a deep breath and offered that her and Nat go outside and enjoy some fresh air.
"What is your problem mom?" You asked, following Dottie into your parent's bedroom. She turned to you and shook her head, "She needs to leave and you're not to see her again. Do you understand me?" she said sternly. You closed the door behind you to prevent Natasha from hearing anything that left your mother's lips.
"No, I don't understand! You've known her for a few hours, and you haven't even tried to give her a chance!" You snapped.
"I don't need too; I know this is hard for you to understand but this is for your safety"
"My safety?! Natasha isn't some criminal you and mom need to take off the streets!" You frowned.
"She's worse that that! She's exactly the type of person I don't want my daughter around!" Dottie snapped; you've never heard this tone from her before. Her eyes were full of worry which took you back, your mother had never looked at you with so much fear before. "What is it mom?" You asked in a calmer tone. Dottie shook her head, "you need to ask her to leave, and you can't see her again, I need you to trust me" she repeated.
"No, if you want Natasha to leave, you ask her" you replied before leaving the room to join Natasha and Peggy outside. "Everything okay love?" Natasha asked, placing a hand on your hip while she brushed a lock of hair behind your ear. "Yeah" you sighed, "can we go get some ice cream or something? I don't want to be here right now" you added.
"Honey, your mom just needs a little time to get used to that fact you're growing up" Peggy inserted herself.
"No mom, she didn't even give Natasha a chance and you know it!" You looked over at your mom with tears of frustration filling your eyes. "I think I know what this is about" Natasha replied softly, "let me go talk to her" she added, placing a kiss on your forehead.
"Don't say another word" Dottie's voice made you turn to the back door where she stood.
"Dottie!" Peggy snapped, "Leave it alone" she added. Your mother's words made you frown, "no, why can't Nat say anything? What is going on?" You demanded answers.
"I'm not going to lie to her, Dottie, you might but I won't" Natasha looked at your mother before turning to you, "Your mother and I have the same job, it's not even a job. We don't get paid. We're trained at a place called the Red Ro-"
"Natasha!" Dottie interrupted with a stern tone while her eyes burned into Natasha's. "Can I have a word?" She asked. Natasha nodded and followed your mom into the living room while Peggy did her best to keep you from following them.
"I hoped this day wouldn't come so soon" your mom started.
"What do you mean mom? Please, can you just tell me what's going on?" you asked with arms crossed over your chest. Peggy sat down on one of the outdoor chairs on the porch, she patted the seat next to her and you took a seat beside her. "Your mom used to work for an organisation called Red Room. I've been working endlessly to try and find the location of this place but it's almost impossible. They take girls, from the street, pay for them and brainwash them. Your mother was trained to kill people…" Your mother went on to explain.
Tears streamed down your face by the time Peggy had finished explaining everything to you. Now you know everything and the reason why your mother never told you how work was because she's been trying to stay in the organizations good books to get back to head office to give Peggy the location. Natasha is what they call a widow, she's on a mission and being with you was never part of the plan.
You went inside, not caring about what Nat and your mother were talking about, you walked by Natasha and hugged your mother tightly. She hugged you back just as tight before you let her free and turned to Nat, "so how about that ice cream?" You asked with a soft smile. Natasha read between the lines and nodded, "do you guys want to come?" You asked looking at both your mothers.
"You know what, ice cream sounds really good right now" Dottie smiled softly, "Natasha, what do you drive?" She asked.
"A motorcycle" Nat replied. Dottie looked to Peggy then back to Nat, "How about I drive us" she suggested.

When I watched the new What If episode with Peggy & Nat I immediately thought of you, your art, and what your reaction would be. Especially since it was kind of a retelling of Captain America & The Winter Soldier.
What are your thoughts on the episode?
Seeing as you asked, I WILL TELL YOU MY MANY THOUGHTS. WITH PICTURES.
under the cut for length lol
First of all, as usual the animation, particularly the lighting, was incredible. Also the effects! The explosions, smoke, everything. Always blows me away how much effort and love these animators put in to What If.
I love that it's Winter Soldier based because by god do I love that movie - but I also love that it's so very different to my AU cos that means I can keep going with it lol.
Okay here we go with the highlights - Blatant flirting and showing off:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This???:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just how in sync they were with every fight scene - even in the Battle of New York when they had only known each other for a few hours.
HEY LOVELY. LOVELY:
Tumblr media
Angst. And how soft Nat is here:
Tumblr media
"Hey, Peg. I got you."
Natasha's inability to sit in a chair properly:
Tumblr media
Peggy making a star wars reference and Nat calling her out on it like .. Nat you RECOGNIZED the reference you're a nerd too
"You know I always wondered how you got all those GI Boys to follow a woman into war: question answered." ie. "I'm so into you right now":
Tumblr media
This Natasha stabbed Dreykov to death with a corkscrew and I love her for it.
Natasha instinctively putting herself in between Peggy and Steve even though they're both twice her size
Tumblr media
I've already mentioned but, the choice to focus on Natasha's face in this scene:
Tumblr media
Nat's face here:
Tumblr media
Natasha only getting taken down by the robots because her gay-Peggy-focused-ass gets distracted when Peggy runs off to protect Steve: (I'll come back to this point later as a negative)
Tumblr media
MELINA.
Was anyone else looking to see if Yelena was there
"Let's unpack that later, shall we?"
"I don't know whether to kiss you, kill you, or dissect you." "Let me guess, all three?"
I bet the Captain Carter film was baby Nat's gay awakening lol:
Tumblr media
Melina's glorious slo-mo "grandma, it's me, anastasia" coat drop:
Tumblr media
Peggy running to save Nat T_T
These shots:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nat wearing the same outfit from Winter Soldier:
Tumblr media
Natasha "too-loyal-and-infatuated-for-her-own-good" Romanoff going along with Peggy again to look for Steve without even being asked. (in stark contrast to the end of Winter Soldier when Natasha did not go with Steve to look for Bucky, I might add)
New reaction image:
Tumblr media
Peggy and Nat calling and reaching out to each other when the portal opens and ALMOST making it - then Natasha punching the ground in desperation T_T
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These two look SO COOL and I can't wait for the 1602 episode.
Tumblr media
Negative points:
Rehashing Ste/ggy all over again - we already HAD that and it was endgame, why do it again?
As much as I adore Natasha's intense loyalty, it's very one sided in this episode and I'm wondering if that's intentional. Peggy is hyperfocused on Steve and leaves Nat behind to run after him multiple times, even though he is in an entire suit of armor and is FINE and Natasha is the one actually getting injured. Then she's leaving at the end without saying goodbye to go find Steve again (despite there being no reason to think he's alive? he EXPLODED??) even though Natasha just went through a trauma too and shouldn't be abandoned. Kinda feels like Peggy is taking Natasha's always being there for granted and I really hope it's addressed in following episodes (though I doubt it will be - it'll just be Steve focused again -_- )
Okay I think I'm done. This was a LOT I'm not sorry I've been waiting for more content for SO LONG I can't wait for the rest of the episodes to rip my heart out and stomp on it :3

So I made the mistake of stumbling onto the NOT STEVE ROGERS FRIENDLY tag today and..
Tumblr media
You have to be a special type of delusional to be this obsessed with a character you don't like!??
Over 2k fics have the tag and are almost entirely Tony Stark-centered fics. I'm assuming these are the "fans" who totally buy into the MCU canon and don't know any other Captain America lore outside of what Feige and Whedon have done. Or, they're the "fans" who refuse to understand the politics behind Steve's character and how he was inherently undermined throughout the entire ten years of the MCU by the directors and writers for most of the films.
Because the arguments in most of these fics for being "not Steve rogers friendly" are really surface level shit like:
1) "Steve refused to sign the Accords and broke up the Avengers" (he was right & he didn't break them up, an overemotional Tony did when he refused to listen to Bucky's side of the story).
2) Steve fought Tony and almost killed him (yeah, like Tony didn't blast Bucky's arm off and shoot his repulsor rays directly at Steve).
3)Steve is homophobic (y'all are just making up reasons to hate this man atp)
4)Steve is racist (Steve hated racists & you'd know that if you read the comics, or you guys are just that deluded that you're making Steve racist & trying to project it as canon and therefore a "reasonable" explanation as to why you hate him)
5)Blaming Steve for Rhodey's accident (WHICH WAS TEAM TONY'S FAULT!)
6)YALL, THEY MADE STEVE THE BAD GUY IN A BROCK RUMLOW/BUCKY FIC! I stg I cannot make this shit up💀 Steve's bad for wanting Bucky to be Bucky again, but somehow Brock's the good guy for wanting Bucky to be the Soldier...
Steve left Bucky for Peggy (we'll get to this soon)
There's a hundred more irrational reasons for the Steve Rogers hate, but let me get to the WORST part.
THERE ARE BUCKY STANS WHO ARE ANTI-STEVE ROGERS.
And I'm sorry, no. I don't accept that you love Bucky Barnes but hate the one person he loves the most in the world.
They argued in a couple fics that "Bucky also went rogue after Siberia but he didn't want to associate with Steve, Nat & the rest of the team- WHO HELPED RESCUE BUCKY & EVENTUALLY EXONERATE HIM- but rather, he went off on his own & eventually Tony finds him, they hash it out and become friends to lovers."
Helppp???? Wdym Bucky isn't gonna stick with the one man he's been keeping diaries about to try and get back his memories? But he'll go to the one guy that re-traumatized him by blowing out his arm again?
Not only that, but Bucky absolutely hates Steve in some of these fics and the reason will be, "he left Bucky to go back to Peggy." Like, you cannot be a serious fan if you're still going with the Endgame canon. For a majority of us, we recognize Endgame as being nothing but terrible writing and mischaracterizations. Why are yall not analyzing and interpreting media critically? The MCU has never been on Steve's side and have always diminished his character in an attempt to make Tony the ultimate hero of the OG 6. Don't yall know the discourse? It's embarrassing atp.
And this is my stance on the entire thing: there's nothing wrong with writing fics about characters you don't necessarily like or aren't interested in. It's OKAY if you don't like Steve Rogers- but you've gotta be rational about him, instead of hateful. Most, if not all of these "anti-steve" fics are written in bad faith. Bad understanding of the character and pure, shameless mischaracterizations which just makes these types of fics fickle and weak- hilarious to read though cos that Brock one had me deadddd😭💀.

I had my dance and now I'm where I belong.
Warning- Angst, cheating and hopeful fluff. ----------------------------------------------------- Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Completed -----------------------------------------------------
Tumblr media
When they say love is blind it truly is blind cause all the red flags turn color blind. You had noticed changes in his behavior and you also noticed the little things he’d stop doing. Even when Bucky was in Wakanda you remained by his side like glue. Slowly he started to regain his memories and the old Bucky was back not completely though. So when he started to flirt with other girls or when someone random made a pass at him he never denied them you foolish thought he is acting his old 40s self just like Steve had told you once the evergreen womanizer so you ignored it till it was getting out of hand so one day you confronted him but he just said you are overreacting and it's cute to see you getting jealous and the confrontation would end up with a kiss followed by sex every single time when he did it again.
Thanos took a toll on all of you but thankfully everyone were back safe and sound. Tony took semi retirement and Clint too, Nat handle the tower Wanda was in and out cause Vision was in Wakanda and Steve you best friend and once upon a time crush was getting ready to return the stones. "Hey" you coo, "Hey" he beams at you "Ready?" Looking at the compass he looked at you with a sad smile "Yes as ever I will be" "Enjoy your dance Steve and know where you belong ok?" the true meaning behind your words were that you were begging him to have his dance with Peggy and to return back to you guys but that didn't happen as soon as Steve told Bucky not to do anything stupid and when he complained Steve is taking all the stupid with himself you knew he won't come back and just like that he was gone. You cried all night long and Bucky held on to you tight he was equally sad and cried along with you.
It had been fifteen days since Steve left and new recruits had joined Nat and you were training them Bucky helped in between but that didn't stop him from flirting with the girls Nat found it weird and you tried to cover it by saying he is missing Steve and everything is tough for him at the moment but Nat was not having none of it and banned Bucky from training the recruits. Soon he and Sam left on a mission in London and here begins the downfall of your relationship. "Sharon?" Bucky was shocked to see her "What are you doing here?" "Undercover Barnes shield sent me to help you guys" So just like that she was helping them and when they both got separated from Sam and their cover almost blew up Sharon thought it is a great idea to kiss Bucky and he kissed her back and one thing led to another for the time they were in London they had sex daily. When Sam found out he was furious but Bucky told him he would come clean to you but not in the way Sam had thought.
Once they were back Sharon accompanied them she told you all she was helping them in the mission. The day Bucky arrived he went straight to his old room instead of your shared one you decided to let him be it was not new for him to stay alone after a mission but for days Bucky avoided you your heart was paining the glob in your throat wanted to explode Nat was worried about you and Sharon was still living in the tower and now Bucky would only train with her and it killed you when he would talk with everyone except you day by day you were getting killed by the love of your life you would cry to sleep every night, Bucky would sleep far on his side of the bed he would only enter the room late in the night. You started to miss Steve terribly if he was here he would have helped you even kicked Bucky's ass. Weird sexual noises would come from Sharon's room but it was none of your concern except it was. Sam had enough he gave Bucky last warning to come clean and Bucky was ready as if he was tired hiding his 'relationship' with Sharon. It was like almost on purpose both of them decided to show you what was happening behind your back Bucky and Sharon were making out in your shared room you were standing there numb tears flowing freely you gave them few more minutes before opening your mouth "are you done?" Bucky sighed and got up he told Sharon to wait in her room on her way she smirked at you like she won some competition. "I’m sorry Y/n it's over I'm in love with Sharon, I have packed your bags please go back to your old room." You scoffed at him "Just her Buck? So what about those, who you flirt with?" Bucky was quiet he knew he deserve your venom. "I have loved you so deeply but James I can’t forgive you, maybe one day in the future, I have been stood by your side through every single thing that has happened to you and yet you betray me." "Can you give an hour please", he nodded and left the room. You open the packed bags just like you had thought he had packed the things he gifted you, you picked out every single of them and kept them on the bed. Once you were done it was time to face the music the time you were busy re packing since Sam and Wanda were out Bucky told Nat you two broke up hiding the real reason. So when Nat came and asked you what happened you went along with Bucky's lie but karma was in your favor Wanda and Sam had just arrived Sam called Bucky a liar Nat was confused that gave Wanda time to read your mind you begged them not to tell Tony the whole truth you were like sister to him and it took a lot of hard work and trust for Tony to forgive Bucky and you did not wanted to ruin what Steve had worked upon. "Where are you going Y/n?" Nat asks, Wanda was crying feeling your suffocating pain, Sam was saying sorry over and over for not telling you sooner but you forgave him, it's not his fault Bucky couldn't keep it in his pants. "I need some alone time Nat please I can't breathe here give me some time" "You call us everyday ok no call we will bring you back!" Wanda warned understanding your need to go away, you nodded hugging Wanda and Nat, Sam was furious "He should go not you" "No Sam please be nice to him for Steve" and with last look you left. Once the team knew about what had actually happened they gave Bucky hell for what he did to you. Bucky however was feeling very guilty for how things did go down he did love you at one point but that didn't stopped him and Sharon making things official just after a week you left. Things were awkward for him with the team.
Meanwhile in the past Steve did have his dance but he was not happy Peggy had moved on but that was not what was bothering him he was worried about you, he open his compass that had your photo truth is Peggy was his first love but you made home in his heart Peggy was only a memory he only loved you wanted a family with you but when he saw Bucky falling for you he took a step back the ever thinking about other's happiness he let Bucky take you away. Steve decided it was time to head back to his love but most importantly his best friend you.

After the party, Wanda mainly only went to work and then home. She didn't want to see anyone or Y/N especially. She couldn't hate them but she hated that they abandoned her. They left without a goodbye.
It took weeks before she finally mustered the courage to go out with some of her friends. Needing a drink to try and clear her mind.
"So Y/N, why did you leave?" She heard someone say nearby. Her eyes soon catching Y/N's who shrugged the woman off when they followed Wanda out of the bar.
"Wanda!" Y/N called out as they walked behind her. "Would you stop!!" They gripped her wrist softly.
"Does everyone know but me?" She questioned with tears in her eyes. "Did everyone know I was a part of the reason you left?"
"No." They told her honestly. "Only Nat and my mom knew."
"Why didn't you ever write to me?" Wanda asked them.
"You were happy. You had Vision, as much as I hated that he had you." Y/N sighed as they looked in her eyes. "You were happy. He made you happy and that's all I ever wanted."
"I wanted my best friend to stay in my life Y/N!" She yelled as Y/N nodded.
"Can I ask you a question if we're being honest right now." Wanda just nodded as Y/N pursed their lips before finding the right way to ask. "How long did it take for you to notice that I was gone?" Already knowing the answer, they wanted to hear it from her.
"I don't know." Wanda sighed as she scrunched her eyebrows. "A month maybe." She shrugged as Y/N smiled sadly.
"You forgot that I existed until it suited you Wanda." They told her. "So you are to blame just as much as me."
"In case you haven't noticed, he broke up with me." Wanda stated. "And I needed you. I needed my best friend."
"You needed me when you didn't have him." Y/N stated. "A second thought, that's all I ever was. All I ever will be." With that Y/N walked away, leaving Wanda teary eyed. She was to blame just as much as they were about their friendship failing.
Over the coming weeks she had barely seen Y/N. Even hearing from her mom that they had moved out of Peggy's and gotten their own apartment on the other side of town.
"You know I remember when the two of you were little, you used to walk around everywhere saying that you two were married. Even made wedding rings out of paper clips." Mrs Maximoff spoke reminiscing when her children were younger. "Hell, you used to say that you were going to marry your best friend when you were older and have kids together."
"Come on mom. I was a child." Wanda groaned as Mrs Maximoff smirked.
"I know, but sometimes even when we're children, we know exactly how we want our lives to be." She told her daughter. "You saw them in your life until the end, don't lose what you had because they had the balls to know how they felt about you."
"Mom, I loved them as my best friend!" Wanda exclaimed. "That's all we ever were."
"Wanda." Her mom turned to face her. "You know very well deep down how you feel about them." She paused before she looked at her daughter once more. "You just need to remember Wanda."
That was all Wanda had done for the next few weeks. Remembering all of the times Y/N was there for her. All of the times they had made her smile, made her life. Even the times they would argue and she would cry. They always comforted her whenever they were mad at her for something.
She soon realised how they made her feel safe and comfort. It didn't matter if they were having a bad day themselves, they made sure to make Wanda smile or laugh. Even just the simple cuddles they shared on movie nights. The way they would hold her as they watched a horror movie. The forehead kisses and the back caresses. Just the thought was giving her butterflies.
She had never realised that maybe the right one was there for her all along. The person she was meant to be with was always by ber side. She just didn't realise it. Before she knew it, her mom handed her a piece of paper making Wanda glance at her confused.
"It's their address." She informed her. "Peggy gave it to me and I can see by what is going on in your mind you need to see them."
"Thank you Mama." She hugged her mom before she ran out of her family home. Running as fast as she could to the other side of town. Finding Y/N's building easily and running up many flights of stairs.
"Wanda?" Y/N locked their door as they spotted Wanda exit the stairwell.
"Why are you dressed like that?" Wanda questioned as she noticed they were dressed in their uniform.
"Deployment." They informed her. "I have to be at the base in a few hours."
"Fuck." Wanda groaned as she approached Y/N. "I need to talk to you."
"I really need to go." They told her.
"Please Y/N." She pleaded. "I need to get this off of my chest. It's now or never."
"Wanda, I really need to leave. My taxi is downstairs and I have to make my flight." They told her as they walked away from her, stepping into the stairwell.
"I love you." Wanda yelled after them as the door closed. Hoping that Y/N would turn around and run to her. She kept her eyes on the door, only for it to never open. "I'll wait for you Y/N." She whispered as her tears started to fall.
Soon making her way home, finding Natasha on her way who looked at her with worried eyes.
"Wanda, are you ok?" She questioned in concern as Wanda shook her head no.
"I was too late." She whispered shakily. "I was too late to love them." Nat just wrapped her arms around Wanda as she cried. Not caring about the tears or snot that would make it's way onto her shirt. Nat knew how much it pained Y/N to leave Wanda all of those years ago and to see Wanda feeling that same pain, she knew that Wanda had finally figured it out after all of these years.

Can I place an order for Marvel? If yes: HERE YOU GO. Where the reader is Steve and Natasha's daughter, Tony and Bucky's goddaughter (you can already imagine that) and mainly, she was raised by all the avengers and hidden from the spotlight. Just something pretty fluffy for what her relationship with them would be like 🥺✋
Ohana means family
Paring: Romanogers!Daughter!reader X Avengers(Platonic)
A/n: thank you for the request. This is my first request for the MCU Fandom, hope you enjoy.
Tumblr media
Being the daughter of Captain America and Black Widow is blessing a curse... I'll tell you why.
But first if your the daughter of them I could imagine you having Steve's kind heart and Natasha's temper. Your Godfather Tony always got a kick out of a tiny you getting all angry. And his laughter would only get heavier if you came and started punching his leg for laughing.
Tony would definitely be a second father. He's wanted to be different from his father so he will always show you the love and affection his father didn't show him.
You don't like hearing about Peggy. I think it's because she was almost your dad's love. Natasha never had a problem with hearing Steve talk about her but the woman always left you frustrated just by the sound of her name... You'd never tell your dad this though.
Anyway, being around all theses heros obviously inspired your choice of future work, this scares not only your parents but the whole team.
Sure your mother would teach you how to shoot or Tony will teach you how to build a robot but they all fear the day you'll actually have to use those skills.
Your other Godfather Bucky seems to be the only one with peace about this suprisenly. If you told him you want to be a superhero he'll grien and listen to your reasoning.
There's been times where he'll put toy boxing gloves on your hands and teach you how to punch. Natasha put a stop to it quickly though. One day he was setting on his knees so he was your hight and you kept punching his flesh hand. He wouldn't let you hit his metal hand in fear you'll hurt your self.
Sam would always tease that you have Bucky wrapped around your little finger.
Bucky and Tony always compete to see who can be the coolest Godfather. If one gets you a cool Lego set or dollhouse the other one will get the bigger version. You love Elvis Presley at the time Tony will take you right to Graceland. You want to go you a waterpark Bucky will have you there in a flash before Tony can have the chance.
A down side is you learned how to be independent with your Hero Family. It's not a bad thing and they don't do it intentionally but there's many times you spent at the compound with Pepper and Happy.
But your mom and dad always make it up to you. I wouldn't say your spoiled, but if you ask one of your godfathers nicely(with puppy eyes) you usually get it.
But another down side of being a part of this family is them being extremely over protective. There's been many times you couldn't do something or had to stay indoors for long periods of time because someone was plotting your father's death.
If you do go somewhere one of them is with you. If you want to go to a zoo trip for school one of them is with you. You want to check the mailbox Sam is flying around watching you. And don't even think about going to friends house for a slumber party. Steve and Nat aren't trying to be strick or anything they just always have this sicking feeling something will happen.
On a more positive note... You always have the best time with them. To be honest you never worried about having friends because you had them. You of course have friends your age but you consider the Avengers your Best Friends. Speaking of which Cassie Lang is probably your Best Friend.
Which means the first sleepover you ever had was with Cassie. Since you technically would be with an Avenger it was okay. Tony thought it was dumb to leave you alone with "Thumbelina" but Steve trusts Scott and Nat trusts Hope.
Speaking of which play time is always token to the extreme. You want a nerf gun war, the whole team is involved. You want to build a Lego thing, tony will buy the biggest one. Blanket fort? You don't have to ask Clint and Scott twise.
I think you'll always try and lift Thor's hammer. You've tried but couldn't so one time Thor lifted it with you so you could have the experience.
You love it when Bruce reads to you. If you come up to him with a book he'll drop everything and read to you. It's the only thing that will make him leave the lab immediately. It's calming to him and he always uses different funny voices to make you laugh.
I won't tell anyone but once you got older you had a small crush on Peitro, which didn't set well with most of the men in the compound when Cassie acdently let the cat out of the bag. You've never saw the ironman suit appear so quickly..
I think once you got older the over protectiveness got old. You found it annoying a frustrating at times but in the end you're greatful that you have a group of people that care about you so much.
Be patient with them. They love you and trust you, they just don't trust other people.
Since you can't be on the flighting field you went to medical school and with everyones help(especially from Bruce and Tony) you were able to graduate with a trauma certification and now you work with Dr. Cho in the med bay.
You always hate seeing them beat up from missions but you also love helping Them and other people.
I don't think you and Peter would get along. I don't know why, I just do. I think at one point they tried to get you to go on a date with him but it never happened.
For a little bit I think you had a jealously thing going on and didn't like how close Peter was getting to Tony. Your Godfather noticed this and told you that you'll always be his number one.
Speaking of Starks, your literally the best big sister to Morgan. You two are basically two peas in a pod. And don't even think about messing with her because you will through hands to anyone who's rude to her.
Your basically to her what Tony was to you.
When you get older you do become an Avenger and the elders got over it. You proved you can survive and they couldn't be more proud of you.
This is your family and you couldn't be more thank full. There may have been bumbs mountains along the the way but they'll always be family. And that's forever.

“So… You fucking my best friend now?”
The words echo in Bucky’s head.
“Can’t say I’m surprised. You have always been super easy.”
He stares at himself in the mirror, following the bruises he received.
“I bet he wishes it was Natasha or maybe even Sharon. Do you really think anyone would want you as their first choice?”
His hand opens and closes.
“Why should I? It’s not like you like her, and she’s just your rebound because you can’t have who you really want.”
Bucky’s eyes connect with his own.
“Go on, Stevie. Tell her the truth, c’mon. Doesn’t she deserve to know that you aren’t better than me?”
His anger grows inside of him, remembering it all.
“You can’t take me, Steve. You’re weaker than I am.”
All because of you, Bucky had lost his best friend. You just had to go and spread your legs for anyone who paid you enough attention, and Steve was the poor soul caught in your web. Bucky hated you and had hated you ever since he met you. When you asked him out, he found the perfect opportunity to make Natasha jealous and possibly hurt you simultaneously. Bucky really had no reason to hate you. When you met him, you welcomed and treated him like family. But the more you hung around him, the more he had grown to hate you, and now he hated you even more because you’ve turned his best friend against him.
Bucky had come out of his room and headed to the loungeroom, noticing you and Steve curled into each other and Natasha and Sam the same. He scowled. He wished you would just disappear. No one wanted you here. He smirked. Maybe he could prove that Steve was just using you, yeah. He’d do that, and there’d be no way you’d ever compare to the Peggy Carter. He abruptly left the room, coming up with the perfect plan.
Tumblr media
A few weeks passed, and you and Steve were happier than ever, and it was pissing Bucky off. He smiled as a woman walked into the room and toward him. She was the spitting image of Peggy, which should make you see that no one wants you. “Bucky?” He nods, surveying her and feeling happy she kept with the 40s style. “What exactly am I doing?”
He smiled charmingly, “You're just going to be my date to a party. Is that okay?” She nods, linking arms with him, and they head off to the party Tony had organised. More like yours and Steve’s engagement party, but if Bucky had it his way, there’d be no engagement, wedding, or you. They had entered the room, and Bucky grinned when Steve’s eyes widened slightly. His focus was on the woman beside his ex-best friend. When you saw what Steve was looking at, Bucky's smile widened even more. The smile on your face had fallen.
Bucky began to lead the woman over to the happy couple, feeling his heart skip happily as Steve’s gaze focused on the Peggy look-alike. “Hello, I guess congratulations are in order.” He watched you gulp, your eyes flickering between Steve and the woman. “Oh, right! This is my date.” She smiled, introducing herself and shaking your and Steve’s hand.
Steve squeezes your side and smiles. “It’s nice to meet you. I’m Steve, and this is my beautiful fiancee, Y/n.” Bucky frowned, wondering why he was now looking at you, not the woman he had brought. Steve’s eyes moved to Bucky’s icy blue ones and hardened. Bucky didn’t know that Steve wasn’t like him, even if he liked to think he was. Steve really did love you. He had loved you when you first met and loved you through it all. No other woman could compare to you, and Bucky had to realise that.
Tumblr media
Months after the party had passed, and Bucky tried everything to get rid of you, to hurt you. But it seemed like nothing fazed you anymore. Steve had clouded your mind from Bucky, and he couldn’t even ruin your wedding.
Bucky sat outside, glaring at everything, not noticing Steve making his way over. “You know, she never did anything to you.” His gaze moved, and he glared more, “I don’t know why you hate her, and I don’t care anymore. You need to stop trying to ruin our happiness, do you understand?” Steve stared into the distance, where you stood, hand placed gently on your stomach.
“Please, you don’t love her.” He grunts as Steve slaps him across the back of his head.
“Shut the fuck up. I love that woman with my entire being. We’re happy, Bucky. You should’ve been there as my best man. You should’ve been happy for me. You should be the fucking godfather to my child! But for some fucked up reason, you hate my wife. She treated you like a human from the beginning, and you just threw that kindness away. For what fucking reason?” Bucky stared at his old friend as Steve spoke, tears in his eyes with every word. “You don’t even have one. I don’t even know who you are anymore.”
And with those words, Steve left, leaving Bucky alone. And for many years, Bucky would continue to be alone.

All i gave you is gone.
Tumblr media
Pairing:Steve Rogers X bestfriend!Reader.
Summary: What started out as a regular mission for you and Steve, quickly turns south when something goes horrifically wrong. When you have to pay for this with your life, Steve is in for more heartbreak than he ever thought anyone could possibly live through.
This is a what if he fell for you and not peggy.
"Steve!! where is that damn gun of mine?" You asked punching one of the bad guys.
Steve throws his shield. 'Give me a minute Agent L/N" You smiled and say over the com in your ear. "Last name Rogers?" he chuckles. "Sorry it's a habit"
"Well try to break-" You gasp and feel a sharp bullet hit your chest. You look at the wound and Tony says "Y/N!??"
He lands and catches you. "No no!" You say. "To...tony" Steve is yelling through the coms. "Stark talk to me!"
Tumblr media
You lay in a bed unconscious and Steve hasn't left your side since you got there four hours ago. "Come on Y/N please don't leave me"
he kisses your hand and Bruce walks in with Natasha. She walks over and places her hand on Steve's shoulders.
"I can't lose-" he tries to speak but he get choked up again. Tony walks in. "How is she?" Natasha looks at Tony and shakes her head. "No change"
Tumblr media
"Rogers i'm sorry i would gladly take that bullet for her" Steve looks at you then you flat line. "Y/N?! no no please god no!" he stands up doing CPR and Bruce says. "She's-"
Steve turns and grabs tony by his shirt and slams him to the wall. "This is your fault! if you didn't be such a hero you'd be dead and not her!"
Tony blinks. "Steve calm down" Steve Let's go of him and walks out of the room.
Tony fixes his shirt. "How is he like this over y/n? Am i missing something?"
Nat says. "I'll talk to him" She walks out and sees Steve in the hallway with his head in his hands. Nat sits by him. "What's going on?"
He sits back sighing. "i didn't get to tell her how i felt about her....How i truly felt" he looks at her and she says. "You were in love with her?"
He looks at the floor. "yea and it's killing me that i never told her i showed her by doing small things for her like when she got sick i was there for her and giving her random notes during missions"
Nat nods. "Oh Steve I'm sure she knew by all you did for her and the team. She knew you loved her by your words and actions."
"i just...i feel guilty i never told her" Nat nods. "She knew Steve, She knew" He turns and she wraps her arms around him as he let the tears fall.
Tumblr media
Steve tried his best to not cry as he and the team carried your casket down to the church.
After Tony and other spoke it was Steve's turn. He stands up and walks over to the stand and looks at everyone.
"Y/N was not only part of this team she was a best friend to us...she was the girl i fell in love with, Y/n could light up a room with just a smile and her laugh. She was tough as nails and fought up to her death. We may be mourning her but i chose to celebrate her life. Y/N L/N Thank you for all that you did in this life, I hope we meet again soon, I love you"
He walks back to his seat and looks at your casket and smiles knowing you and him would be a great power couple....in another life.
A/N: well damn i hope you enjoyed this one shot. Reblogs mean a lot.

I don't know what you expected but I am still not done talking about the infamous fifth episode of the What If...? show.
Spoiler warnings ahead.
Throughout the episode, while trying to pull Steve out of the mind control, Peggy keeps repeating "Steve, this isn't you, wake up" an abnormal amount of times. It's actually sickening how lacking the scriptwriting is, at least for her character.
Bucky interacts with Steve for barely a minute and even then, his efforts to get Steve back display a wider vocabulary than Peggy's throughout the whole episode.
Furthermore, I'd like to break down and compare Steve's words to Bucky and CATWS, and Peggy's words to Steve in What If...?
Steve: "I'm not gonna fight you," and here he drops the shield into the river below, "you're my friend."
Moments later, as Bucky nearly punches him to death, saying "YOU'RE! MY! MISSION!", Steve's calm, collected response is "then finish it, cause I'm with you till the end of the line."
Yes, tear-jerking, we know. Let's move on.
Peggy, having gone up against Steve in a huge (around the same size as the armour Tony built in the cave) metal suit, made of plutonium or something, and still standing straight up, says:
"I don't want to fight you, I can't fight you anymore. I'm done fighting, I've been fighting for so long, to end the war, to forget what I lost...I'm tired. Steve, I want to be with you. I want you, even if this is the end."
Keeping aside the frustrating repetition of the word "fight" in just a few lines of Peggy's speech, let's look at the motivation behind both the dialogues.
Peggy talks about herself. About how she is tired of the war and of losing people, how she tries to forget how Steve isn't in her life anymore, about how she wants to be with him. Her entire purpose is not to save him, but to save him for herself. Her actions come from a selfish point of view, and by the time she says this, she is far from being as battered and bruised as MCU Steve. In fact, she gets away with just a couple of bruises at the most.
On the other hand, Steve's intention was to free Bucky from Hydra's torture, to protect his childhood best friend and lover. He had been shot multiple times, stabbed at least once, had his skin split open in several areas when he dropped the final bombshell. Steve was nearly dying while he was saying all that; yes he would've loved a second chance at life with Bucky by his side, but it was never his primary focus.
His primary focus was making sure Bucky had a second chance at life, even if he himself died trying. It was as if to say "I may die right here right now, but I love you too much to hurt you any further than I already have. You've always been more dear to me than life itself, so if your mission is truly to kill me, you know I'll support you in it even as you're taking my last breath out of me. All I ask for is your safety and well-being."
And it shows in the consequences too - in CATWS, Bucky not only regains just enough of his memories to stop, but also pulls Steve out of the Potomac before he can drown to death and places him somewhere he knows Sam and Nat and the others will easily spot him.
On the contrary, Hydra Stomper Steve barely shows any affection, shock or remorse towards the woman in front of him, but instead, he flies up to the Red Room and destroys it. It is unclear whether he survives the crash himself.
Like I said before, despite Marvel trying their absolute hardest to push StevePeggy as the superior pairing, they still end up portraying Steve and Bucky's (I say romantic, because Steggy mirroring Stucky proves the latter to be a romance) bond to be far stronger than that of Steve with a woman he only knew for a couple of years at most during a world war.
They dug their own grave and cannot crawl their way out of it. Stucky prevails.

Personal review regarding what if…? season 2 episode 8 (spoilers)
No ok, I must admit, the episode was good in some aspects.
Wanda was majestic. Loki and Scott were hilarious and I loved every single moment with them.
Thor was amazing, dark and serious out of loss but still enjoyable, and the crumbs of his relationship with Hela were very nice.
I’ve actually liked Tony for the very first time in my life, probably because I tend to like him a lot more in AUs and fanfictions than I do in the normal timeline.
And then… there were those two.
I will never comprehend why marvel wants Steve to be so dependent on Peggy. And I will never comprehend why, to make him interact with her, they have to destroy or sideline every other relationship he has built, or make his character flat.
Bucky being friends with Scott was amazing, but the fact that him and Steve interacted like two times was extremely disappointing. You’d expect “best friends in every universe”, if you dislike the romantic pairing so much, to acknowledge themselves for more than a few scenes, in only one of which they’re in frame together (Bucky was literally 😐 while his best friend disappeared, come on now).
And the storyline about Peggy coming from another world to save the universe was just… Mbah. It could’ve been executed in another way without including her and it still would have made sense. It really feels like a Y/N insert.
Seeing literally any other character was so good, so fun, and they had to ruin it this way, making Peggy once again the self insert and girlboss she didn’t need to be.
Plus, forgive my constant complaining, but it’s extremely infuriating how all of Steve’s friends were eliminated to put the focus solely on Peggy. Where’s Sam? Where’s Nat? Where’s Clint? It’s not an underrated friendship we’re talking about, a big chunk of the fandom loves the cap quartet or team cap, and after civil war it would have been nice to see them interact, especially after its popularity and popular demand. Outlaw team cap would have been glorious, a good chance to bring back many characters who aren’t here anymore in the right way, and involve characters that are rarely involved in What if in the storyline, for a change.
The treatment of Sam in this series particularly angers me, and even more so in this episode. I understand not involving him in other storylines, but Sam was a big part of CATWS and he wasn’t even in the episode centered on that film. What, because Steve met him while running he can’t be introduced in any other way? And oh, there’s no excuse for this episode. If there was one episode they could have placed Sam in, it was this one. Sam was there in infinity war, where the mess happened, and he should have been with the other avengers in this one.
If marvel wanted to involve someone from another universe so bad, it should have been a Captain America Sam from another universe. Can you imagine the poetry of seeing Steve and Nat again after endgame? Can you imagine having closure with them both, and having fun in the process? It would have been so great.
Another great storyline without involving characters from other universes would have been one where Steve, who touched the time stone, accidentally brought everyone in the past, and he was the only one to remember it. And to go back and prevent everyone’s distraction, he had to recruit the avengers, who don’t know him and don’t trust him but that in the end become his friends and companions. It would have been so interesting to see the original avengers involved in something different from being some side characters or extras in the one woman show that seems to be What if, constantly centered around the same bland, one dimensional reimagined side character. Peggy’s blandness is so obvious in these episodes (aside for some random remarks that made me smile) that literally everyone who’s involved directly with her must be bland like her, otherwise risking to overshadow her.
I don’t think I was supposed to cringe and look away as much as I did during Steggy’s forced scenes, but I did. If they had to force Steggy and Peggy down our throats, at least they could have done something different from the same bland and boring storyline as always. I wouldn’t be as mad as I am now if Peggy and Steve’s relationship wasn’t as bland. I would have preferred an enemies to lovers type of twist or change, where Steve doesn’t trust Peggy and struggles with her because he sees in her a different version of the Peggy that died in that universe. But noooo, god forbid, let’s go with the same old song.
An episode five or ten minutes longer with a better, avengers-centric or Steve-centric storyline would have been much better than what we got.
And given that this was my most anticipated episode, I was very disappointed by it. I hope for the next seasons, if there’s other ones, Marvel will listen to the general complaint regarding Peggy and will give her a break. I don’t think any of the original avengers or relevant MCU characters made as much appearances as Peggy, and being a main focus in four episodes out of nine is ridiculous.

Love, Honey.
Y/N is a stripper, and Bucky is a Mafia leader along with his friend Steve. When the pair of them come to the business to ask a deal with Natasha, Y/N’s business partner and best friend. A lot of history is being upturned. Characters – Reader, Bucky, Steve, Natasha. Word Count – 2.8k
‘Nat, we gotta do something about Richie.’ You said, pushing the door to your friends office, not noticing the two men lounging in the chair across from the redhead. ‘He’s grop -,’ ‘Y/N.’ Nat said sternly, you looked up making eye contact with her before Nat gestured to the men. You looked at them, smiling before turning back to her. ‘What are we going to do?’ You asked her, she arched an eyebrow smirking. ‘We can help?’ The blonde offered; you shook your head. ‘Thanks but we like to handle it in house.’ You told him, watching his blue eyes shine. ‘You can take care of him.’ Nat said, your head whipped around to her, the curls you had expertly put in your hair early wrapped around our neck. ‘Really?’ You asked hopeful, she snickered. ‘Yeah, let our guests see how the team works.’ She stated, you raised an eyebrow before turning, quickly walking away. You could hear the men’s heavier steps as your heels clicked, feeling their gazes on your back since you were wearing the black pants and matching bra, but had a sheer dress that didn’t leave anything to their imagination. You quickly marched across the busy room, ignoring the stares from the men and few women that watched your quick steps, in the dangerously high heels. ‘Y/N.’ Richie said, stretching his hand out at his sides, Peggy and Maria moved away from him, when they saw Nat a few steps behind you. ‘Richie.’ You said with a smile as you bent over him, keeping your legs straight giving him the perfect view of your cleavage. ‘What have we said about handling the woman?’ You asked, he smiled wider. ‘They like it, they always like being man handled.’ He said cockily, your tutted before standing up, lifting your foot. Resting your toes on the edge of the seat between his spread legs. His rough hand automatically wrapped around your calve. Taking a deep breath you smiled sweetly, reaching out with your opposite hand. Your fingers sliding through his shoulder length, greasy hair as he looked up at you. Grabbing his hair, you watched his pupils dilate before you yanked his head forward. It connected, with a snap, against your knee. ‘You bitch.’ He hissed, pulling away and cupping his, hopefully, broken nose. ‘You touch the girls again, I’ll break your nose then I’ll give your little man,’ you glanced to his crotch, ‘A new hole to pee out of.’ You finished, dropping your foot down onto the ground. ‘Understand?’ You asked him, he nodded before standing up and moving past her, scurrying past everyone else. ‘That was interesting.’ The blonde said, you turned back to them, then turned to the girls. ‘Are you okay? He didn’t hurt you?’ You asked, they shook their heads. ‘Good, take a breath, grab a drink on the house.’ You said, they nodded before slowly walking away. ‘Steve, James, I’d like you to meet, Honey, my -,’ ‘They just saw me threaten a man with my heel, you can tell them my name.’ You stated, Natasha arched an eyebrow. ‘Okay, fellas this is Y/N, my partner.’ Natasha said, the brunette man eyebrows furrowed as the blondes shot up, almost touching his forehead. ‘We were told you don’t have a partner.’ James said, Natasha smiled as she moved around to stand at your side ‘Y/N prefers to stay in the background, half of the money that went into this place is Y/N’s.’ Nat said, both the men looked at you. ‘So why do you dance?’ James asked. ‘Dancing since college, trying to make money but now…’ You told them, looking around the room. ‘Now I, we, help others. Give them better care than your nine to five jobs do.’ You stated, the men arched their eyebrows before nodding. ‘Do you need me to sit in the rest of the meeting?’ You asked, looking at Natasha before you both turned to Steve and James. ‘We want to go into business with you.’ Steve said, you titled your head, surprised at how forward he was. ‘Why?’ You asked, Nat gently whacked your bare arm. ‘What, two leaders come to us and show interest. Last time that happened, he who shall not be named tried to take over.’ Nat commented, James and Steve watched as Y/Ns eyes glazed over. ‘We don’t want to take over.’ James said, you arched an eyebrow. ‘Our plan is to take all your buildings under our name, still working together but we want to protect it.’ He said, both you and Natasha’s eyebrows dropped. ‘Protect?’ You asked, they nodded. ‘We’re aiming to reduce drugs, we know it’s impossible to fully stop it but slow down and help users.’ He explained, holding eye contact with you.
-
‘Hey doll.’ Bucky said, you didn’t reply to him as you kept your head in the freezer. ‘Doll?’ He asked, stepping closer, ‘What are you doing?’ He continued, reaching out and touched your shoulder. You took a deep breath as you stood up, shutting the door as you turned to him. Keeping an eye shut as you rested the ice pack against it. Bucky’s eyes widened before all emotion dropped from his face. ‘What happened?’ He asked, his hands coming up and cupping your cheeks. ‘I fell -,’ ‘Bullshit.’ ‘Bucky, I’m wearing nine-inch heels.’ You pointed you, lifting a foot up balancing on a heel, unwavering. Just proving his point. ‘And you’ve never fell before.’ He stated. ‘How would you know, you don’t watch my every move.’ You commented. ‘Trust me doll, I’ve watched your since you marched into Nat’s office bitching about a customer.’ He admitted, you scoffed and shook your head. ‘So, you gonna tell me what happened?’ Bucky asked, you shrugged your shoulders. ‘A fall out with one of the girls, I’m fine and it’s been sorted.’ You told him, the corners of your lips curled up. He reached up and cupped your hand carefully pulling it away, you kept the ice bag in your hand before he looked at the bruise. He dropped your hand before gently brushing his finger across it. ‘It’s not that bad.’ He said, you tilted your head forward. ‘I know, I’ll ice it tonight.’ You told him. ‘Oh, there goes my plans of asking you out.’ He commented and chuckled. ‘Bucky, we haven’t left my apartment in the last four days, unless it was for me to come to work.’ You said, he straightened and looked down at you, smiling before stepping closer. ‘Well you certainly haven’t been complaining.’ He replied, you stuck your tongue between your teeth as you tried not to laugh. ‘I need to go. My show starts in five minutes.’ You told him, he nodded as the familiar music of Wanda’s dance filled the building. ‘You look good baby.’ He called out as you walked away, you looked over your shoulder. ‘Always do honey.’ You replied, sending him a wink. ‘Steve.’ You said when you opened the door to reveal the tall blonde. ‘Y/N.’ He greeted you, before he could say anything else you were running down the stairs, still confusing him with the height of the heels. Turning to Bucky, he took in the wide eyes before he chuckled. ‘Damn you are one love sick puppy.’ He commented, Bucky’s eyes snapped to him.
-
‘Y/N?’ Bucky called out, looking around. ‘Y/N?’ He called again. ‘She’s not here.’ Wanda said, Bucky turned to her watched as she gently touched the cut across her forehead. ‘What do you mean?’ He asked, watching she wiped the blood down the side of her shirt. ‘He took her.’ Wanda told them, Natasha bent down and picked a chair up. ‘Who Wanda?’ Natasha asked. ‘Rumlow. Brock Rumlow.’ Wanda said, Natasha froze fixing the chairs as she whipped her head around to the other redhead. ‘Why would Rumlow want her?’ Bucky asked, Wanda shrugged her shoulders before Bucky turned to Natasha. ‘Nat?’ He asked, she didn’t reply and he stalked over to her.She didn’t back away as Bucky leaned down to her. She refused to make eye contact until he snapped his hand out, grabbing her jaw. ‘Why does that scumbag want her?’ Bucky quizzed, forcing her head back to look him in the eyes. ‘Y/N is his girl, was his girl.’ Natasha managed out, Bucky let go. ‘What do you mean his?’ Bucky asked, anger filling his chest at the thought of the scumbag touching her. ‘They dated about five years ago, she was a dancer at his club and just like you he took a liking to her.’ She pointed out, jabbing a finger into his chest, ‘They dated for a year, she broke it off and left.’ ‘In his brain Y/N is still his and will forever be his.’ Natasha finished, holding eye contact with him. ‘Why aren’t we informed about him?’ Sam asked, Natasha turned to him. ‘He hasn’t been around for two years.’ She told them. ‘Why now?’ Steve asked, Natasha scoffed.‘Because you all showed up, showing your interest in my girls.’ Natasha spat out, angrily fixing the chair before shoving it under the table. ‘Na -,’ ‘No, Y/N said it was a bad idea we discussed and -,’ she breathed out, covering her mouth and nose, gasping. ‘I am not losing her, not to that dickhead.’ She breathed out, ‘Not again.’ Her legs gave out from underneath her and she collapsed to the ground.
-
Bringing your crossed legs up the metal chain clinked, resting your chin atop of your knees, you wriggled your bare toes. The cold tiles underneath your bum were creating a chill and causing your bum to go numb, there was a bed across the room, but your refused to sit or even lie in it. ‘Y’know sweetheart it would be easier if you gave in.’ His rough voice filled the room, you tilted your head so you could see the dark eyes looking at you. ‘Rot in hell.’ You spat out, he chuckled. The door was pulled open, you kept your focus on the floor. You flinched with every step, the low heels of his dress shoes echoed around the room. When they stopped, you flicked your gaze up seeing the polished shoes. You clenched your jaw as he crouched down, his hand grabbed your chin and tilted your head back. ‘It’d be a shame if something were to happen to your face.’ He said, you narrowed your eyes at him. ‘Untie me and it’ll be a fair fight.’ You said. ‘Fair?’ Rumlow asked, you nodded once. ‘You’ve always been scared that I could win.’ You told him, he scoffed as his gaze darted to the chain that was attached to your ankle. ‘You so sure about that?’ ‘Untie me.’ You snarled, Rumlow’s lips curled up.
-
‘Y/N?’ Nat said, you looked at her, the bags under her eyes resembled yours before she quickly crossed the room and wrapped her arms tightly around your shoulders. Pulling you up off the hospital bed. ‘You’re okay.’ Nat breathed out, either to comfort herself or you, but you didn’t care as you grabbed tightly onto her arms. ‘I killed him Nat.’ You breathed out, she pulled away and looked you dead in the eyes. ‘Rumlow?’ She questioned, you brought your lips between your teeth. ‘Yeah.’ You answered. ‘Good on you. Bucky will be pissed he can’t do it.’ She commented, you tensed up slightly and she pulled away. ‘I can’t dance, not for a while.’ You said, ignoring the fact that she brought up Bucky. ‘You aren’t coming to work.’ She said, you shook your head. ‘I can’t be alone.’ ‘Bu -,’ she started, you quickly you shook your head. ‘I’ll stay in the office, I promise.’ You told her, she opened her mouth before nodding, brushing her hand down your head, trying to tame your knotted and messy hair. ‘You’ll need to talk to him eventually.’ Nat said, you lowered your head. ‘I will but I don’t want to see the look of pity he’ll give me.’ You told him, you know what that look could do and it might break you. ‘He’s out in the hall.’ Nat told you, you slumped in the bed. ‘Please, tell him I’m too tired or doctors have to run tests.’ You said, her brows wrinkled as she looked at you before nodding. ‘Okay, but you should know that he didn’t give up, he spent days searching everything he could and nights he followed all the leads.’ Nat told you, you rubbed your lips together. ‘And I’m grateful but I can’t face him just now.’ You told her truthfully. ‘Y/N, what happened with Rumlow last time or even this time will be smothered by the love that man has for you.’ Nat informed you, making the tears run to the surface. ‘I know that, but I can’t face his love when I’m broken on the inside.’ You told her truthfully, touching your chest, catching sight of the raised burns around your wrists, ones that matched your ankles. ‘Okay, okay.’ She said soothingly. ‘I’ll tell him.’ She added, you sniffed loudly but nodded.
-
‘Y/N?’ Bucky called, you lifted your head. ‘Bucky, what are you doing here?’ You asked, he looked good in the all black suit. ‘You’re better?’ He asked, you could feel yourself shrinking under his intense stare as he took you in. You were wearing mum jeans, the blue fabric hanging loose over your legs as you paired it with trainers and a black long-sleeved top. ‘I am.’ You agreed, he rubbed his lips together as he nodded. ‘What are you doing here?’ You asked him again, tucking your hair behind your ear. ‘I’ve got a meeting with Nat.’ Bucky said, you closed your eyes. ‘So do I.’ You told him, he narrowed his eyes. ‘There isn’t any way she’s double booked us, is there?’ He quizzed, you shook your head before you spotted your red headed friend, reach into the room and pull the door shut. ‘Nat.’ You called out, she managed to give you a wave before shutting the door completely, the lock clicked. ‘Nat?’ You questioned, trying the handle but it wouldn’t budge. ‘I’m not letting either of you out before you make up, none of us can take the pining anymore.’ She commented, you leaned forward and let your head hit the door and sigh. ‘God dammit Nat, we aren’t teenagers.’ You sighed, you heard her laughing before she walked away. ‘How is she meant to hear us if she’s left?’ You asked, pushing yourself away from the door and made your way over to one of the leather chairs. You had noticed that Bucky was now standing in front of the window, his hands tucked in his pockets as he focussed on something outside. You started to drum your fingers on the arm of the chair, before you let out a huff of air and flung your head back and shut your eyes. ‘Why haven’t you talked to me?’ Bucky asked, his voice filling the room. ‘I haven’t had a reason.’ You said, his head dropped. ‘Y/N.’ He said, you opened your eyes and looked at the unit. ‘Bucky?’ ‘You were taken by that man and you don’t even talk about it.’ Bucky said, you shook your head as you took a small step back. ‘Because if I talk about it, it becomes real.’ You spat out, he turned to you, watching as you bounced your leg up and down. ‘That man whether he is dead or alive, has and will haunt me.’ ‘He took everything from me, and I thought I was safe but then he appears back and everything is in a loop.’ You said, rotating your fingers in a circle. ‘I can’t love someone like you, when I am so fucked up in here.’ You told him, moving your fingers to tap the side of your head. ‘You love me?’ He said, his blue eyes widened as he looked at you, you wanted to be annoyed that he only took that from the conversation, but he looked so hopeful. ‘It’s kinda hard not to.’ You glanced at him to see his wide eyes, ‘You are most the populations dream man.’ You added, giving him a smile. ‘No, you love me. Not loved, love.’ He said, you looked away from him but nodded. ‘Yeah, I love you and I can’t stop it.’ ‘Well don’t.’ Bucky said, your eyebrows shot up.‘What?’ You questioned. ‘I love you, I have since well you -,’ He admitted. ‘Marched in and bitched about Richie?’ You asked, he chuckled but shook his head. ‘No, I think it was actually when you broke his nose on your knee.’ He said, head tilting to the side. ‘He had to three stitches.’ You told him proudly, Bucky smiled. ‘I know, Steve and I paid him a visit the next day.’ He informed you, you leaned back. ‘You threatened him?’ You quizzed, he gave you a sheepish smile. ‘Maybe.’ He said slowly, the pink tint taking over his cheeks giving you his answer. ‘How many did you do that to?’ You asked him. ‘I am not disclosing that information.’ He commented, his blue eyes darting to the ground. ‘Bucky?’ You warned, he shook his head.

Steve's arc in Age of Ultron is so important to him, it's so compelling to watch, it's so well done. I tried to explain it with the main quotes from the movie that bring it out because I'm obsessed.
"I don't think I can afford a place in Brooklyn." "Yeah, but home is home, right?" Steve just looks away and clenches his jaw in a very Steve way. He doesn't agree with Sam, he doesn't even nod. Brooklyn, the geographical location, is not home. Not in the way Steve needs a home.
"Captain America. Pretending he can live without a war." The end comes back around to this one. It stings because it's true. He knows it. What else does he do? Nothing. He doesn't have a home to go back to, as established very early on.
"The war's over Steve. We can go home. Imagine it." And then everyone in the room disappears. And then he sees himself dance with Peggy. And then he's alone again. That was him imagining it. All he could see was a flash of them dancing, but God he looked happy in that flash. Everyone else was gone, he couldn't imagine anything else, because he doesn't know life without war. He wants to. All he can reach is a second of Peggy. But he doesn't know what it was like for the soldiers in ww2 who went home. The only part he does relate to, actually, is the ptsd. Which he also sees in the dream. He flinches at a camera flash and sees wine on a shirt as blood. What else is there after the war for him? All he ever hoped for was a dance. He never even got that. And that was all he could see.
"We can go home." He hears her voice again when he looks at Clint's house. It's the perfect image of an American family home with a big yard for 2.5 kids to play in. Completely normal. That wide shot of him standing on the porch but he's still wearing his uniform, it shows everything he wants but all that he's left with right now. He looks so out of place with his uniform and shield on. And he turns around and walks away because he can't even stand to look at the house. That's supposed to be him in there. He was supposed to go home.
"Isn't that the why we fight? So that we get to end the fight? So that we get to go home?" That's what really set him off, but the whole conversation really. Tony says "looks like you walked away alright" and Steve looks at him with so much resentment. Like how do I look fine? You think I'm fine? But all he says is "is that a problem?" because he can't talk about it. Especially not to Tony, but not really to anyone. Tony says "I don't trust a guy without a dark side." Steve says "let's just say you haven't seen it yet." He's obviously saying he has one. He's been in a bad place as much as Thor and Nat since the dreams, Tony just chooses to see him as a symbol. But he's not about to explain himself. And he's leaving the door open for the option that he might lose control and everyone might realize how dark his dark side is. It wasn't a promise no one would ever see it. It was just that Tony hadn't seen it yet. Now, as much as I love Tony, he was really ignorant for pulling the so we get to go home? It's not like it's hard to see. Steve gets genuinely mad, rightfully. He hasn't stopped fighting since he started, he's never gotten to go home, he's finding himself almost looking for fights because that's all he knows. But he wants to go home so bad, and it's not even an option. Tony wants to fight about if Ultron could save the world, and that they should take the opportunity so that Clint can go home to Laura, and Tony can go home to Pepper, and Nat and Bruce can work out their stuff, etc etc. And Steve's on the other side of the conversation, not even agreeing with the concept of Ultron in the first place, but he has nothing to fight for. He's not defending his stance so that he can go home, he's doing it because he believes it's right. And what else is he going to do if he's not defending something? When he ripped the log in half, it was a glimpse of his dark side, but only if you know what he's thinking. He's mad, he's lonely, he's grieving. And he takes it out on the log.
"The simple life." "You'll get there one day." "I don't know. Family, stability... the guy who wanted all that went in the ice 75 years ago. I think someone else came out." This is the first time he's admitted that he wanted that. Even in TFA, he showed interest but not that explicitly. Since he's woken up, he's avoided it completely. He didn't even answer Sam when he said "home is home." He's finally acknowledged it and admitted it. But he puts the responsibility on himself. "I think someone else came out." That's not really true. In TFA, he said he'd "settle for just one" girl, then that he was waiting for "the right partner" to dance with, and then he promised to dance with Peggy. While he was actively crashing the plane into the ice, in fact. The guy who wanted family and stability went into the ice, yes, and he made it very clear who he wanted that family and stability with. He didn't exactly come out as a different person. He came out 70 years later, so his chance at family and stability with her was gone. This whole time he's been distraught that he couldn't go home. He wasn't all of a sudden saying I just dont want to. He was saying there was no family and stability left for him to want. It wasn't him that had changed, it was the circumstances, and he was trying to live with that.
"You alright?" "I'm home." Yes he was. But he didn't look very happy about it, did he? He was at the Avengers compound. Tony wasn't staying to train the new guys because he was going home to Pepper. Clint was already home. But Steve was still in the middle of the fight. He's not really pretending he can live without a war when he just knows he can't. Even as he says "I'm home," you hear soldiers marching in the background. It's eerie. He's trying to get by because what else can he do, who is he if he's not Captain America? He hasn't been able to be just Steve in a long time. He's not even trying to find just Steve, he left just Steve in 1945 with Peggy. "Someone else came out" ? Captain America came out.

They Show Their Truth (one single time)
“I don’t trust a guy without a dark side.”
The worst part is that Stark would probably appreciate what Steve is struggling with. He might even trust Steve more because of it, and isn’t that just exactly the worst conclusion to draw, tonight?
Steve’s on his back on the floor in the Barton family room. He’d feel more comfortable if he could rest on his side with his back against the couch, second best to the wall, but every square foot of wall in this room is filled with shelving. Toys, books, puzzles; the accoutrements of a life he’ll never live, all stacked up with the chaotic order of an unexpected visit. The couch is ready for Natasha, with a sheet covering the cold, worn leather. He’s left her the handcrafted afghan and the better of the two pillows Clint’s wife had offered, and kept the sports fleece for himself.
It makes sense that they’ve put the two of them in here; whatever is going on between Bruce and Nat means it would be irresponsible to force them to share. Stark’s by himself on an air mattress in the laundry room instead of in the guest room with Bruce, because out of all of them, he’s the one most likely to accidentally set Banner off-- and just like Clint said, it’s not that they don’t trust Bruce. They don’t trust Tony.
Steve likes Laura Barton. It seems to him that she understands the purgatory they’re all putting themselves through, most of them, anyway. He sure as hell hopes she hasn’t caught on to his, but she couldn’t have.
If she had, she wouldn’t have put him in a room with Natasha.
He gets up and turns off the overhead light, using the chain, then flips off the switch. The ceiling fan’s breeze is just on the edge of too much, but if Nat wants it on, it’ll be set up so the light won’t disturb her. He walks over to the door and cracks it, listening. Laura and Natasha are still talking quietly in the kitchen. Steve pushes the door mostly shut again, and turns off the light that’s across the room from the couch, leaving just the one lamp directly next to it.
He winces. The room is now bathed in an orange-yellow glow that reminds him of the quality of light in the vision he’d seen in South Africa. The truth is that practically everything here reminds him of the vision.
The glint of the sun off of the axe had reminded him of the flashbulbs.
One of Barton’s kids had spilled juice, and its blood red color had been like the wine on the soldier’s chest.
A rare moment of collective laughter in the dining room with Nick Fury had pulled Steve out of the moment and thrust him, unwillingly, back into the vision.
He’d had to walk away, away from the mirth, away from her red hair as she faced away from him, so similar to the twice-damned vision where Peggy Carter had asked him to dance. As he’d turned to say yes, she’d spun away, dress flying off to reveal a tight-fitting black jumpsuit, the brown wig falling away to red, her familiar, beloved face morphing into Natasha Romanoff’s familiar, beloved face.
Because she is. Beloved. Despite everything. No amount of brutal training at the gym until his hands are numb and bruised, no amount of self-denial or self-recrimination has cured him of it. Hell, no monk has ever kept himself as pure for the sake of his God as Steve Rogers has, for fear of thinking of his teammate in a way that is definitely unholy.
The result has been the exact opposite of his intention; all roads lead to Natasha in his mind, because as ever, Steve Rogers aspires for that which cannot be. The only thing he’s learned from being chosen for the program, from rejecting orders and saving his best friend despite everything, from crashing the plane to save the world, from waking up after seventy years on ice, is that fate loves to give him what he wants.
And he wants her.
“Not this time,” Steve murmurs from his position on the floor, one knee up, arm behind his head.
“Well, if that’s the way it’s gonna be,” Natasha says in a sultry, teasing voice from the doorway.
Steve launches himself into a stand as if she’s the personification of an enemy, and in a way, she is.
“I don’t know how to tell you this, Steve, but you’re a little edgy.”
“You and Clint are always telling me to rough it up a little, just trying to follow orders,” Steve jokes, backing up out of her way as she walks into the room.
“We were thinking more along the lines of getting you to watch some porn, grow some scruff,” she tells him. “So, you trying to be chivalrous, leaving me the couch and the best blanket?”
The tingling awareness he’s been fighting down for hours rears back to life at her provocative words, even more so when she immediately tempers them with a challenge about the couch. He knows her. Her behavior tells him that she thinks her words were reckless, that’s why she’s covering them. That means there was some truth to what she said, that they were revealing. If he were an enemy, it might be a trick to let him lower his guard, but she doesn’t know that he’s been fighting her in his mind for months. At least, he hopes to hell she doesn’t.
“Not at all,” Steve lies smoothly. “It’s pure math. I don’t fit.”
Nat turns her warm, impish gaze towards him and Steve feels a jolt of pure, unadulterated desire. Don’t, sweetheart. Don’t, he begs in his own head. She’s vulnerable, open, teasing, coy. Because she trusts him.
“Now, come on, soldier,” she says, sweetly mocking. “That’s boy scout math. Unimaginative math. I could probably fit the whole team on that couch if I had to. They might even enjoy it.”
He’s hardly ever seen her like this, but he knew she had it in reserve. “Well,” he says in his best regimental, Team Captain voice, hoping she won’t hear the regret he feels in pulling it out to dash water all over her lush, flirty flames. “That might be so, but that has nothing to do with sleeping.”
“Oh no, Steve,” she says, amused concern woven through the husk of her voice. “Turn it off, I absolutely cannot sleep with a Steve Rogers figurine in the room with me tonight!” Natasha comes over to him, her lips curved into a smile under furrowed eyebrows, and before he can fully understand what she’s doing, she’s got her hands on him, stroking along his back, and he’s hard, his heartbeat spiking, she’s going to know, fuck, fuck…
“Nat, what--” he chokes out, throwing his arms out wide in hopes that he can talk himself down before she walks back around.
“I’m looking for the pull cord,” she says, resting a hand on his arm so she can lean over and catch his eye. “For your sayings. You know, ‘It’s the American Way!’ and ‘Do it for your country!’”
Every single thing she says sounds like innuendo to him. To think that Tony fucking Stark thought he doesn’t have a dark side. He’s sworn more in silent frustration about this gorgeous, unattainable woman than Stark probably has in the whole year, on purpose, out loud.
“Lay back and think of Uncle Sam?” Steve suggests, forcing his limbs to move, walking toward the other side of the room as he pulls his arms out of the long-sleeved overshirt he’s wearing.
“I’ve actually done that, you know. Multiple times,” Nat tells him, chuckling.
“Are you going to sleep in that? Do you want me to leave the room while you change?” he forces himself to ask. She’s got her own dark, long-sleeved shirt on, over a soft, grey thing that clings to her curves in a wholesome, farmhouse way that doesn’t stop him from finding it sexy in the slightest.
“You wouldn’t have to even if I wasn’t,” she tells him in a voice that chastises him for even asking.
I don’t trust a man without a dark side, Tony’s voice repeats, in his mind.
He should have just confessed to Stark. ‘Some nights I’m so desperate for thoughts of Natasha that I’ve tied my hands to my own bedpost. Just enough resistance so I wake up if my hands drift down to touch myself. It’s her face in my erotic dreams, her body in my everpresent thoughts. Not Peggy’s. I’m not wholesome, Stark. I’m a sinner. A hypocrite.’
“The figurine comment was metaphorical, Steve,” Nat is saying. She’s inches away from him somehow, because once again he’s caught up in his thoughts. “You okay? Tony said you were unaffected, but--”
“He’s wrong. She got to me.”
“Yeah,” Natasha breathes, looking up at him. “Me too.” Her eyes are troubled, hurt, practically anguished.
Steve’s resolve weakens, and he smiles down at her with a fraction of his feelings showing through as reassurance. “Do you want to talk about it?”
Nat looks up at the ceiling and does a little frustrated shiver. “Talk, no. I either need to--” she breaks off and looks at Steve, her eyes shining with repressed tears. “There’s something really wrong about punching Captain America in the face because I need a release of tension.”
He thinks he knows what her aborted sentence was. I either need to hit someone or fuck someone.
Steve says what he was thinking out loud. “People see me as standing for the way things ought to be. Fairness. Doing your duty. Things working out the way they’re supposed to.” He lets out a short, frustrated sigh. “Life doesn’t always happen that way, and reacting with frustration against that fact is very reasonable. If you need to, go ahead. Punch me.”
“She really did get to you,” Nat whispers.
“I mean it. You know I can take it, Natasha. Physically, I mean. I won’t take it personally.” He wants her to. If he can’t have her softness, he’ll take hardness over nothingness.
The regretful vulnerability is back on her face. “You wouldn’t say that if you knew why I need it.”
“They’re trying to tear us apart, Natasha. The best way not to tear is to reinforce the connections you already have.”
“It’s not about what I saw. At all. It’s about wanting someone and being rejected, not even because I’m not enough, but because he’s too broken.” She reels back in reaction to even saying the words, and impulsively, Steve reaches down and takes her wrists, shakes them until she responds by resisting his actions.
“You didn’t want to set him off in Clint’s house. You won’t set me off,” Steve lies. She already has, in exactly the wrong way. “Shove me, hit me, punish me. Get it out.” He pulls her hands, despite her resistance, until they’re flat on his chest. “He said he was too broken?”
Natasha’s lovely face crumples for a split second before her jaw tightens in anger. She shoves him; Steve was ready for it, doesn’t stop himself, lets the momentum carry him back a little.
“As if being broken is some kind of contagious!” she bites out, her voice angry but restrained. There are children sleeping in the house somewhere, after all. “As if I’m not a shattered teapot--” another shove. “--held together by the kind of toxic glue that builds up--” she punches his shoulder in a jab that does more than sting. “--in your system until I’ve killed you just by doing my job!”
For the word ‘job,’ Natasha drops back and her foot flies out, catching him in the chest. If they had been anywhere else, Steve would have let the full force of it knock him across the room, as intended, but he can’t risk the sound bringing someone who might see the heat he’s trying to repress. Instead, he takes the hit, his foot braced on the door, which shakes but doesn’t make much noise. Steve ends up on one knee, looking at Natasha, who is breathing heavily out of fury rather than exertion.
“Isn’t that just the perfect kind of symbolism,” she sighs, sounding defeated.
Steve raises his eyebrows, biting his cheek inside his mouth against the way his pants are pulled tight and uncomfortable against his arousal. That should be enough to kill it, but she’s walking toward him and all he can focus on are her hips, the way they sway. He wants to see what they look like with his hand gripping them, his thumb pressing against the thin, delicate skin that curves toward her inner thighs.
“You have my shoeprint on your chest, Rogers,” Nat says.
“What, it’s visible now?” he quips. The hold she’s got over him has been too close to the surface for too long.
“Now don’t go trying to make me feel better,” she says in that rich, amused voice of hers, tossing him a look before starting back toward the couch. It reminds him of the first time he ever wanted her; she’d said something in that tone and he’d found himself suddenly desperate to trace the origins of the sound with his lips and tongue against her neck.
“Any man who doesn’t want you is definitely broken,” Steve tells her, standing.
If she doesn’t recognize his confession, is that his fault?
“Even if that’s true, and I know it’s not, I’m just as easy to brush off,” she says, nodding at the way he’s wiping away the dust of her shoe so it doesn’t soil Laura Barton’s bedclothes. His hands still, not just because of what she’s said, but because Natasha’s rolling up the sheet and tossing it to the side, adding the pillow seconds later.
“What are you--” he starts, cutting himself off when she tugs the couch cushion off of the frame of the couch and sets it beside his makeshift bedroll. “Nat?”
He can’t sleep beside her. He can’t not sleep beside her, not after Bruce seems to have done his best to fracture her confidence into little pieces just so he could sweep her away more easily.
“You asked what you can do? You can do this.” Her words are short, choppy, defensive. “I can’t sleep next to Clint and take my confidence from him, not when he’s doing that for Laura right now. Unless you--”
“Here, my arms are longer,” Steve says, picking up the sheet and unfurling it over the cushions for her before she finishes that final, uncertain sentence.
“Thanks, Captain,” she tells him, her lips twitching up into a tiny, precious smile.
“At your service, Ma’am.”
He doesn’t let himself watch her wriggle into a comfortable sleeping position, choosing instead to walk over and turn out the light. He seeks out his own sparse sheet and too-short blanket in the fresh darkness, turning his back so his arms can’t seek her out in his sleep. Steve does scoot back far enough that he’s up against her cushions, the only concession he’ll allow himself to her nearness. He reminds himself sternly that it is just to give her the warmth and closeness she said she needed, nothing more.

Steve wakes to the feeling of a small hand worming its way under the tight shirt he’s wearing. He can feel Natasha’s body pressed up against his back, all softness and curves and forbidden sweetness.
Is she awake??
This is the stuff of his nightmares, dreams he’s forcibly categorized as such because of the moral implications. Her arm has snuck under his, so he lifts his arm, hoping the change of pressure will be enough to wake her up. Instead, this earns him a closer snuggle, one where he can identify her breasts along his back, the dip of her pelvis molding against his ass.
“Nat?” he whispers.
“Cold,” she says, her lips and nose nuzzling the word against his shoulder. Steve doesn’t know what to think. Her hand on his stomach is warm. In his sleep-fuzzed laxity, he decides to react the way he assumes he would if he didn’t have an attachment to her, which is to roll over and encourage her to curl up against him to warm herself up.
Steve rolls onto his back, the movement brushing his body against her in thrilling ways.
“Mmm,” she murmurs, chasing his heat as he carefully scoots over so that she can slot into the warmth of the place he’d been lying. Steve only succeeds in moving about three inches before Natasha throws her right leg out and twines it around his left leg as she slips down from the thick cushions toward him. Before he fully understands what’s happening, she’s mostly on top of him, her head pillowed on his shoulder, her hot hand tucking ever so slightly into his waistband.
“Natasha, this can’t be what you do with Clint,” Steve hisses at her, desperate for her to stop moving before he shames himself with the speed of how fast he hardens for her. So far he’s controlling himself through sheer embarrassment on her behalf, but that won’t last much longer if she keeps squirming.
“Mmm, you’re right. He would have shoved me off by now, and we would have sparred about it or I’d have headed off to have a hot shower and a thorough conversation with my own hands,” she says, her voice wavering between an actual whisper and a tone husky with vocal fry.
Steve is nearly speechless. “Shower it is, then?” he suggests.
“Fresh out of hot water.” Natasha tells him, using a firm grip on his waistband to haul herself across his body to straddle him. Steve lifts both of his hands up over his head in self defense, but he’s essentially lost the battle. She’d removed her pants at some point in the night, and she’s sleep-mussed and gorgeous. Their enemies’ mental handiwork has done its job, led him right to what he’s always wanted, and it’ll be the end of them. She has to feel his reaction to her.
He closes his eyes and turns his head away. “I’m not going to fight you,” he says.
“That much is obvious,” she observes.
“What do you want me to say?” he asks between gritted teeth. “Put any man in this position and he’ll react the same.”
“Anything but that,” Natasha says in a small voice. Steve looks at her and sees pain in the angle of her head, the tightness around her eyes, the straightness of her back. She’s not putting all of her weight on him, he can tell, and just imagining the coiled strength that she’s exerting to rest so lightly and devastatingly against his thighs is undoing him.
She’s holding steady, but it feels like she’s pressing down thanks to his reaction to her. His body is gorging itself on a futile hope, and there’s no way that Natasha Romanoff doesn’t know this.
“I’m not Bruce,” he says, simply.
Her smile is a slice of pain. “Obviously,” she says, lowering herself fully and rocking her hips, pinning him with a challenging gaze.
Steve’s instinct is to stop her, but when he tries, his hands clutch naked skin and soft lace. The smile she offers him in response freezes him in place.
He shakes his head, delighted, miserable. “What are you looking for? Validation?”
“Goddamnit, Rogers, stop trying to fix everything,” she says, grinding against him again, making him gasp. “If the team’s fucked, the team’s fucked, so why not fuck the team, right? That’s what I’m trained for.”
The agony in her voice is all the worse because she doesn’t sound vulnerable anymore, and her eyes have lost the sheen of regret. She’s bitter, determined, and so broken in the process that Steve aches for her in a whole new, terrifying way. He reaches up to touch her face and she slaps at him before grabbing him, tearing open her shirt and clutching his hand to her breasts, fighting to keep him from fisting it.
Steve sits up, alarmed at her violence, and she tightens her thighs against him, rocking rhythmically.
“This is just sparring with different weapons, Nat, don’t do this,” he says.
“It’s all I have,” she snaps. “It’s my role. Tony would do it, you know he would.”
The jibe hits him in just the right way to be really painful, and Steve wrenches his hand away from her breast, trying to mitigate the way she’s ramping his desire up so skillfully with the drag of her body.
“Tony couldn’t, not in the way you want,” he says, his heart pounding, realizing that her plea for him not to fix it will have to be the one that will go unanswered. He knows exactly what she needs. Exactly. It’ll rip him apart to do this, in all of the best, soul-destroying ways, but it’s what she needs. Steve Rogers, throwing himself on the wire for his team.
“You and your stupid fucking rivalry--”
Steve interrupts her by arching his back, thrusting up against her, holding her gaze. “That’s not it.”
Natasha’s still hard-edged, scoffing. “I should have realized that would set you off. It must drive you crazy that his giant tower puts him ahead in your dick-measuring contest.”
“You think Tony wants you the way I want you? He doesn’t,” he says, blunt and honest. Her hips stutter in surprise, and Steve lets himself slide one hand up to the front clasp of her bra, flicking it open. “He’s known you longer, sure.” Natasha’s green eyes are wide, stunned. He takes advantage of her momentary stillness to hold her steady as he sits all the way up, sliding his other hand up to cup her face. “But would he throw away everything he has at the very thought of kissing you again, on purpose this time? No.”
“Steve?” she breathes, hesitant, haunted.
“Say the word and I’ll sleep on the porch and never mention this,” he tells her, hoping to hell she doesn’t.
“What even is ‘this?’” Natasha asks, tracing his face with doubtful eyes. “You trying to make up for Banner? I’m not a grenade, Rogers.” Her words are vulnerable but her voice isn’t. She’s using it as a weapon, pushing her sex appeal into the tone, sultry and challenging.
He watches himself push one of her wild curls back behind her ear, indulging a long-held desire that has nothing to do with the other ways he wants to touch her. “Seems like you’re trying to blow up like one. You just picked the exact wrong person to prove your point.” Steve makes eye contact with her. “Since when do I lie to you? About anything?”
“You want me,” she states dubiously, tossing her head, shaking it as she questions him, as if even saying it at all is too much to be believed.
“Very much.”
“I find it hard to believe this is anything more than a seventy-year--”
Steve buries his hand in the curls at the back of her head and kisses her, pouring all of his longing into the sweep of his lips, coaxing her to respond. For all the time he’s wanted this, he’d always thought if he got the chance again, it would be like the first time. Unexpected, unplanned, uncomplicated, unrepeatable. Not like this. Not with ardor, affection, adoration.
Natasha shifts toward him after a few seconds, letting out a small noise and tilting her head to deepen the kiss. Her movement sparks the napalm in his blood, little explosions of pleasure that follow her hand as she grabs his shirt, dragging it up his back to bare it for her fingernails. Steve can’t help it, he thrusts up into the sweet heat of her thighs in his lap, even as she gasps her mouth open for him to taste her. Natasha pulls back and rips off her shirt.
“Touch me, please, Steve, touch me,” she begs, grabbing his hand from where he’s been gripping her hip like a lifeline.
“I--” he starts, completely forgetting what he was going to say as he watches her throw her head back as soon as he palms her breast, shifting his grip so he can trace his thumb across her nipple. “Ahhhh, fuck,” she groans. Steve dips his head to suck an open-mouthed kiss against her neck at the same time he uses both hands to circle his thumbs across her nipples again. The sound she makes in response is as resonant and aching as he’d always hoped it would be, from the outside.
“Do you believe me now?” he says, each word a kiss.
“I might need more proof. You could be very dedicated to my well-being,” she laughs. It’s throaty and sexual, and he surprises her and even himself by the way he abandons what he was doing to hold her down as he grinds his hardness against her yet again, blatant and demanding. “Yeah?” she encourages.
“Yeah,” he pants, screwing his eyes shut to settle the overpowering urge he has to wreck everything about himself and the team, rip off their clothing and rut with her. He wants to keep this, and to hell with Banner and his reticence.
“So, you’re saying…” she dangles, reaching down and unbuttoning his pants, taking down the zipper, and lifting herself up long enough for him to yank everything down in a frantic rush. Steve can barely believe what’s happening until it happens-- she takes him in her hand at the same time she curls her other hand around his neck to haul him down for a filthy kiss. Every single nerve ending in his body is a conductor for her electricity, and the two of them together prompt a chemical reaction that send his pleasure centers into overdrive.
With a herculean effort, Steve pulls back from the kiss, cupping her face with one hand, the other fisted in the fleece beneath them, channeling all of his excess energy and desperation. He’s not in control, and he knows he could hurt her by accident.
“Was supposed to be about you,” he manages to say between a gasp and a groan at the way she’s working him with expert movements.
“Are you kidding? You should see your face,” Nat says in that rich, sensuous voice of hers. “Very complimentary. But how did you keep this from me?”
Steve drops his head, overcome, when she leans over and tongues his nipple in a completely unexpected, devastating move. “S’wrong,” he slurs. “Ahhhhh, stop, stop, Natasha, you-- stop.” She stills her hand slowly, easing him into the loss of it, and it’s so thoughtful, so thorough, so Natasha, that the action cuts the last threads that held his heart back from its inevitable fall.
“Bet you never thought you’d try to stop me,” she whispers in his ear, hooking her chin over his shoulder for a second, her various movements inexplicable until suddenly they’re not, she’s naked and sinking onto him, and Steve’s gone, he’s gone, his back arching, hips chasing her heat and tightness.
“Shhh, shhh,” Nat reassures. Her hands smooth over his back, his arms, his face, and finally he can open his eyes and see her, sweat-touched and exquisite.
“Natasha,” Steve whispers, shaking his head. He has never felt so clumsy and imprecise in his life. “I wanted to make you see,” he tries to explain. She’s given him everything he’s wanted, freely, somehow, but his goal had been to tear apart her insecurities, not force her to support him in exposing his own.
“You did. You are,” she says, but he shakes his head, noses a caress onto her shoulder.
“We’re all a mess in so many ways, the team,” Steve tells her, groaning as she tightens around him, seeking out her lips to taste the groan when he strokes his fingertips over her nipple. “Most of our strengths are outside-in. Yours is inside-out. You’re made of steel, coated in silk.”
“You always fuck so poetic?” she teases, but her eyes are luminous.
“Gotta get it all out now,” Steve whispers, seeing his peak on the horizon and craving as well as dreading it.
“Steve,” she warns, and he shakes his head.
“You know I’m right.”
Natasha leans over, kisses his neck just under his ear, and whispers, “That why you haven’t really touched me?” she challenges.
“I’m inside you, that’s not enough?” he groans, knowing it’s not, feeling caught out, hating and loving the way she absolutely knows him. His avoidance had been subconscious, but she’s a master of that domain.
Oh my, is she.
Natasha sets a hand on his shoulder and caresses him all the way down to his hand, pulling him, unresisting, to just above where they’re joined.
“Touch me, Steve. Make it so every time I see your hands I remember this. If I can’t keep you, if this is it, if this is all I get, give me that to remember this by,” she whispers.
“Fuck, Natasha, you can’t just--” he groans, so close to coming his vision is whiting out, but she stills her hips.
“You kept this from me,” she says.
She’s right.
As penance goes, it’s appropriate.
Steve turns his hand, lightly probing and swirling his fingers exactly where she wants him to. Her reaction rattles him to the core; Natasha had always struck him as an inherently sensual person, even if she only let small glimpses of that show at any given time, and rightly so. But even a light graze of his fingers against that sensitive part of her takes her apart. It’s wrecking to watch, and he craves the chance to see it over and over, again and again, in any and every possible way, even as his orgasm approaches exactly like the tiny death the poets call it.
“God, Steve, yes. Yes, fuck, please, please,” she babbles, her mouth pressed against his shoulder to muffle the noises just enough for propriety, or so he hopes. “Please, sweet-- ahhhhh!”
Because fate loves to give Steve just what he wants, they come apart at the same time, the cloying, clenching, glorious pleasure bearing down on him just as the woman he cares so much about shakes and shudders and begs in his arms.
They hold still for long enough that each of them has to know it’s just to prolong the inevitable.
“Count of three?” Natasha finally whispers.
“No need,” Steve says, and they slowly pull apart, avoiding eye contact. He’s trying to decide which shirt to soil when she brings him a package of non alcoholic baby wipes.
“Thanks,” he says.
“No, thank you,” Natasha says. It’s sincere, he realizes. No sarcasm, no innuendo, no amusement, just a sincere, heartfelt gratitude that feels simultaneously like a slap and a caress.
“You’re important to me,” he mutters, pulling his clothes back on.
“Right back at you, Cap,” Natasha tells him. It’s the transition, he can sense it. He settles back onto the sheet, facing her this time, a tiny concession to plausible deniability. She’s perceptive enough to catch it, of course, but they’ve got a shared secret, now, and that’s just the way things are. There’s just one more thing to do, one final rip through a single word written on a mostly torn piece of paper.
“Don’t give up on Banner,” Steve tells her, his tone as kind and matter-of-fact as he can make it, right now. “Today was probably the worst day of his life. People don’t make rational decisions on days like that.” The smile feels bitter and truthful on his lips.
Natasha’s lying on her side, lifted those few inches above him by the height of the cushions she’s resting on top of. Her expression had been sober, maybe even sad, but on hearing those words, a tiny fraction of lightness crosses her face. One corner of her lip turns up.
“Really?”
Steve’s paper metaphorically flutters to the floor, the bold block letters of the word landing imprecisely, but readable. UNRE QUITED, it reads. The meaning of the first four letters of the second half are not lost on him.
“Really.”

SPOILERS FOR "WHAT IF?" season 2
Ok but like can we just talk about how Nat and Peggy are totally in love in season 2 episode 5 of "What If?"
I mean damn talk about having some fucking chemistry.
Like I had shipped them in season 1 after seeing them interact, but damn season 2 just fucking solidified my belief that the two of them are totally in love with one another.
First of all, the way they were totally like borderline flirting within the first few minutes of the episode when they were fighting Loki and his army. And the way that Peggy literally saved Nat's life and the way they were showing off their moves to one another had me fan-girling and shipping so fucking hard.
Second, the way Nat would look at Peggy almost with like a longing, sad look on her face whenever she mentioned Steve.
Third, when Peggy picked Natasha up in the car Natasha originally used to pick Steve up in TWS, she teases Nat (and the audience) about how she wouldn't run in circles and she literally greets Nat by saying "Hey there, lovely." Like girl be fucking fr. I dare you to tell me that isn't something someone would say to their partner or someone they fancy. I DARE YOU!!
Fourth, the entire conversation between Peggy and Nat while they were waiting for Steve to wake up just like gave me romantic vibes. Then, when he woke up, Natasha almost looked sad that Peggy was giving attention to Steve. Now it could be because she felt like Peggy didn't trust her because she wasn't listening to her about Steve not being who he was, but to me it felt like more than that.
Fifth, just like the little one-liners between them and the jabs they threw at one another. Like Nat saying she's "a sucker for a great love story" and Peggy telling Nat "we're going to unpack that later" after she found out Melina was Nat's mom(ish).
And this isn't even mentioning the fact that when Peggy confronted Fury about Steve and found out Natasha knew, Natasha retorts by saying "I didn't want to break your heart a second time" or whatever. LIKE BRUH YOU CANNOT TELL ME THAT AIN'T THE TYPE OF THING SOMEONE WHO IS HEAD OVER HEELS IN LOVE WOULD SAY TO THEIR SIGNIFICANT OTHER. Also the way Nat was freaking the fuck out after Peggy disappeared into the portal (side note: I'm so fucking happy they managed to get Elizabeth Olsen to voice Wanda/Scarlet Witch. I miss her sm and I cannot wait to discover her story in the series!) because she'd literally just agreed to go on a road trip to help Peggy find Steve and try to reverse the brainwashing the Red Room had done to him.
Anyways, I think that's all I've got for now. This was all off the top of my head after I've just finished watching the episode. I'm excited to see more of the series and I'm especially exited to see Wanda again!!!
