Hiii, it's been a long time since I've posted! I am back briefly, just to post a little gift that I have been keeping for some time😅 I hope y'all are doing fine!
Work has been busy, but I am taking time to write again...and it has not been going well.
Pairing: Sakusa Kiyoomi (timeskip) x Y/n (she/her)
Genre(s): Romance, some light angst(?)
Warning(s): mentions of drinking, y/n being drunk
Enjoy!
Sakusa Kiyoomi
Recently, your relationship with Sakusa has been going through a rough patch where you would start fighting over minor things.
You started going on more business trips, and he travelled more often due to his activities as a national athlete.
Today was the worst. He just woke you up abruptly and started a fight about you never keeping the house clean, and it all blew out from there.
So, instead of sitting down and talking about the problems you two have, you went to the company’s weekly dinner, which you rarely did, and now going for the third round.
Your subordinates are scared as you down the tenth(?) pint of beer at this place.
And it was time for you to head home after seeing your drunken state.
They haul a taxi for you, and soon, you are returning home to your place.
Somehow, you managed to haul your drunken ass back to the apartment in one piece. You fumbled with the door lock, finally got the pin right, and entered your home. Sakusa was sleeping soundly on the sofa, waiting for you because it was unlike you to return home so late.
You shrug off your heels and are about to leave it sprawled on the floor, but then your boyfriend hates it like that. In the darkness, you put your heels back in the shoe closet and walk into the living room.
“Hmm? Why are you outside~? You should sleep inside, and where’s yer blanket?” He was asleep on the sofa without a blanket, and you knew he might catch a cold if he continued to sleep outside without the thick duvet.
It was hard to walk straight while drunk, but you dragged out your heavy duvet and lay it over your sleeping boyfriend.
“Night night, Mimi. I’m sorry, too~.” You leaned over and kissed his forehead, cheeks and lips before collapsing on the warm wooden floor, falling asleep almost immediately.
.
.
.
.
[The following day…]
Sakusa woke up to you holding his hand and sleeping on the floor, curled up to your golden retriever, who casually becomes your bolster. He saw that you were still wearing the clothes from yesterday and the duvet over him.
He carefully moved your arms away and carried you back into the bedroom. Sakusa then proceeds to change you out of your clothes into a shirt of his because you love sleeping in his shirt, which he loves and hates because you look cute, but he is always running out of clothes.
When he makes sure you are clean and comfortable, he heads to the kitchen to make breakfast and prepare a hangover cure when you wake up.
You woke up with a splitting headache and dragged your feet to the bathroom to freshen up, but that did not help your hangover.
“Jin? Mama is not in the mood to play now. Go find papa.” But your loyal companion continued to stay by your side.
And you feel it.
Sakusa could hear you emptying your guts in the bathroom; he turned off the gas cooker and rushed to you. He held your hair back while rubbing your back soothingly as you puked into the toilet bowl.
Even though Sakusa is very uncomfortable with this, his precious girlfriend is very sick and needs him by her side.
“I’m sorry, Mimi. I know it’s disgusting-” You were going to apologise to him, but he cuts you off immediately.
“Don’t apologise. I’m the one who should be apologising. Are you feeling better?” Before you could answer him, you were puking again.
He helps you up from the floor and passes your rinsing glass to rinse your mouth before getting your toothbrush. You brush your teeth thoroughly before gurgling mouthwash. Sakusa holds you close to him as you two walk towards the living room.
After all that puking, you were exhausted and famished. Sakusa, he holds you close to him, and you lean on to him.
“I think we should go on a date later tonight. I’ll reserve at that restaurant and get you-” You shushed him with a kiss. He instinctively holds your waist, eagerly bringing you closer to him.
When you pull away, you start laughing.
“I don’t need no high-class restaurant. Let’s catch a movie and go to the arcade, then have oden by the roadside stall and have a night walk with Jin, just like old times. That’s what I’ll like. I feel like because we are not spending enough time together or having talks like a couple, it causes us to drift apart. So, what do you think?” You suggested while looping your arms around his neck and straddling him on his lap.
“I love it.” He leans in and pulls you into another deep kiss.

SKZ as animal hybrid boyfriends
Pairing: Reader x Members
Word count: 2.9k
Genre: Fluff | Headcanon | Animal Hybrid/Shifter AU | Boyfriend AU
Warnings: Very brief mention of spiders
Masterlist
Tumblr media
Chan
A husky hybrid
Has the CUTEST pair of gray and white ears that stick out of the top of his head
Also has the most gorgeous pair of pale blue eyes that glow in the dark
He has a fluffy white tail that wags like crazy whenever he’s excited because he doesn’t know how to stop it from showing
He’s also the sweetest boyfriend in. The. WORLD!
Always asks how you’re doing
Makes sure your not missing any meals and that you’re always hydrated
Every morning, he wakes you up with cute good morning texts and he always tries to send you good night texts sometimes forgets because he gets so caught up in work
He makes up for it tho
Sends flowers to your place whenever he forgets uwu
Chan’s the perfect boyfriend
The only problem is that you’re allergic to dogs
He didn’t realise why you always seemed to sneezy and stuffy whenever you would come over to his place
Until you told him
And his reaction makes you feel like you just told him the most horrific thing in the world
To him it is!!!!
Because he’s the reason that you’ve been having allergic reactions around him!!
He starts vacuuming his place more often to keep any fur away and makes sure to keep the area super clean so that you’re clear from anything that could cause a reaction
He also starts lint rolling and vacuuming his clothes before giving them to you so that you don’t take any of his fur home unless you ask him to leave his fur
Chan gets confused whenever you tell him that you don’t want him to vacuum or wash his hoodies before giving them to you
But you like them because every time you see the strands of gray and white fur sticking out of his hoodie, it reminds you of him
So instead,
Chan starts buying a crap ton of allergy meds
Puts them in every corner of his house
In the bathroom
The kitchen
The living room
The bedroom
Literally everywhere just in case you get a super bad reaction
That way he’s always prepared for anything
Minho
A maine coon hybrid
The most luscious fur ever known to man
His cat ears are so fluffy and always well groomed
He has this beautiful fluffy orange tail that he’s gotten pretty good at hiding his feelings with
Usually a hybrid’s animal features would probably give away their emotions, but Minho learned to control his ears and tails really well
It’s just that his ears are really sensitive and they flick around every few seconds whenever he’s in a crowded place
He has a pair of yellow eyes that are constantly in the shape of slits simply because he wants to intimidate everyone around him
Also always has his claws out because they intimidate strangers
Wouldn’t tell anyone, but Minho lets his pupils dilate when he’s alone with you (´∀`)♡
He also likes to tease you a lot but you know he’s just joking because if he was serious, his tail wouldn’t be so related
You try not to tell him because then he’ll start working harder to hide his tail swishes
Is the most precious yet teasing boyfriend out there
He’ll make a joke about you eating a lot of ice cream whenever you’re sad, but he’ll always have your favourite ice cream in the freezer
If you complain about some kind of muscle pain, Min would call you weak but then also come home with muscle relief patches that he’ll stick to you himself
Minho likes to shift into cat form if you’re stressed because then it means that he wouldn’t really disturb you a lot
His footsteps are way quieter when he’s in cat form as compared to human form
So if you’re stressed or tired and you ask him to give you time
Minho would shift and hide in one of the cat towers he bought for himself until he hears you coming out of the bedroom
The moment he hears the sound of the bedroom door opening, he’ll lift his head and peek out from the top
If you sit on the floor right in front of the tower, Minho will scurry off of the tower to sit in your lap to
But if you don’t even look at the tower and you instead go to the kitchen, he’ll wait a bit longer to give you more time
Changbin
Yk I wanna say he’d be some cursed Dwaekki hybrid the skzoo dwaekki haunts me in my sleep
But I genuinely feel like he’d be something really threatening like a wild animal
So if Chan’s a husky and Minho’s a maine coon
I’m gonna throw Changbin in as a grizzly bear because he’s a tank of a man and I love him for that
His ears are dark brown and rounded, poking out from the top of his head
His eyes are super dark brown and sometimes you can’t even tell if you’re able to see the white in his eyes bcs his pupils are just that big
His hands have these huge black claws that could claw someone apart if he wanted to
Also has a cute brown tail that he often hides underneath his clothes because it’s small enough for him to sit on
He gives THE BEST CUDDLESSSS!!!!!
Sometimes shifts into bear form just to cuddle you because it’s cold and relying on the heater might make it too warm
So Binnie likes to use his own fur to warm you up if he notices you shivering
Also would not hesitate to bear his teeth at anyone who tries to hurt you
Changbin doesn’t really tell anyone this
But one of his proudest bear traits is his ability to vocalise like a bear
Which means that whenever he feels the need to protect you or whoever’s around him
He will growl like a bear
And it’s terrifying
You didn’t even know that Changbin could roar until one night when a stranger wouldn't take your ‘no’ as an answer and your boyfriend almost lost his mind
He pulled you behind him and grabbed the collar of their shirt and just roared at them
The stranger being a hybrid of a smaller bear species immediately scrambled off
But Changbin also immediately switches back into sweet, cuddly boyfriend the moment he turns back to you <3
Hyunjin
A sphynx hybrid
Very dramatic
Very loud
He has pink cat ears sticking out of the top of his head with a little black splotch on his left ear
He also has this naked pink tail that sticks out from underneath his shirt
Every minor inconvenience and Hyunjin’s meowing and whining to you about it and you think it’s funny every time he does
Like the time he misplaced his sock and was crying all over your shared home looking for it until he found it underneath the bed
His claws are retractable, so he usually hides them because he doesn’t want to hurt anyone on accident unlike Minho
He’s VERY cuddly both in human form and cat form
Hyunjin likes to do the ‘kneading the dough’ thing whenever you’re cuddling
And ends up leaving holes in your clothes because his claws would accidentally grab onto the fabric
Would also feel really bad afterwards because now he’s ruined your shirt
You reassure him that it’s fine
But Hyunjin’s dramatic also kinda wants an excuse to go shopping with you
So he cries about it and it leads to him dragging you to the mall so that he can buy you a new one
Ends up getting distracted at a cat cafe because he’s made conversation with one of the cats there
And he’s basically talking to them like he’s a middle aged wine mom talking about their weird husbands
You have to remind him what the goal is
But he’s so immersed in the conversation with the orange tabby that you can only watch in amusement
Hyunjin’s talking to it in English while the cat nods with it’s tail swishing every time he asks it a question, mewling every once in a while as a response
You watch with a smile on your face, chin resting against the palm of your hand as you listen
You can only gather that Hyunjin’s telling the cat about why you’re at the mall
And the cat turns to you with a bored expression on its face before meowing
“She says good luck on finding a new shirt”
You nod and reach out to pet the cat’s head as thanks
You and Hyunjin leave after a while
And soon, the trip to get one shirt turns into a shared shopping spree
Jisung
Kinda obvious but he’s a squirrel hybrid
He has a pair of rounded, light brown ears on the top of his head
A bushy light brown tail that bumps into everything whenever he’s in cramped spaces
And the CUTEST pair of brown eyes EVERRRRR
His squirrel trait is where he gets the habit of stuffing food into his cheeks whenever he eats
Ji’s really good at climbing
So he has this long ass piece of wood that he keeps in the living room of his home so that he can still climb something in squirrel form if he can’t go outside
He also has tiny black claws that he uses mainly for practicality when he's in human form
So stuff like cutting into plastic, through strings and to open mail
He just slides his finger across the top of the envelope and boom
Jisung’s quite clumsy
It doesn’t help that he has this huge, bushy tail behind him
He bumps you with it a lot and he’s always so apologetic over it
But it’s fine because it’s his tail and it’s soft and cute and it’s part of Jisung UwU
There were a couple of times where you would wake up and his tail would be tickling your sides
So you’d wake up giggling
And it would wake him up too
He’d turn around and immediately wrap his arms around your waist to cuddle into you
You love playing with his ears
Jisung’s really responsive whenever you pet his squirrel features
So if you touch his tail in public
He’s jolting forward like AHHH
And you like to gently rub his ears whenever you’re cuddling
Jisung usually ends up cuddling into you more because he really likes it whenever you play with his ears
He has a habit of making those squirrel squeaks whenever he’s uncomfortable
So in public, if he feels like he’s overwhelmed or wants to leave
He’ll cling onto your arm and start squeaking softly so that only you’re able to hear
And it’s an easy way for you to know that he wants to leave without him actually telling you
Felix
Horned owl hybrid
He has two sets of white and brown feathers that poke out from the top of his head and curls to the back
He does, however, have talons at his fingertips that he doesn’t really like because it gets caught on a lot of things
Has feathers running down his arms, but can’t actually fly in human form
His eyes are this beautiful amber colour
He also has a lot of hanging stuff in his house that he likes to fly back and forth to whenever he shifts into owl form
Absolutely loves doing the head spinning trick because you freaked out the first time you saw him do it as a human
Felix also has really light footsteps
So sometimes you don’t even hear him coming into a room and suddenly he’s beside you
Which scares you sometimes
Overall, Felix is just unintentionally scary.
Buuuut
Because he has really good eyesight at night
And because he’s nocturnal
He sleeps in the day
Which means that all of his work is done at night while you’re asleep
His hearing is intense which means that he could hear the smallest pin dropping in the kitchen from the bedroom
So when he hears something strange coming from the kitchen
He’s immediately crawling out of bed and peeking out of the bedroom door
That’s when he sees a spider crawling out from behind the fridge
A huge spider
Now, Felix does NOT like spiders
But he knows that if you wake up in the middle of the night to get a drink, then you’re going to be freaked out by too
But he should be able to toss it out the window in owl form
So Felix pops open one of the windows and shifts
His silent flying and sharp night vision make it a quick mission that’s executed without much hassle
He manages to grab the spider with his talons and just tosses it straight out of the window
By the time Felix has returned to the bedroom
You’ve woken up because you realised he wasn’t beside you anymore
So he climbs back into bed and lets you hold onto him while you fall back asleep
Seungmin
Labrador hybrid
Has a pair of golden ears flopping over the top of his head
Also has a golden tail that he usually hides because if he gets over excited then it’ll wag all over the place and might bump into things
Is a relatively quiet person and is also a quiet dog
He doesn’t say or bark that much
But you’ve come to learn how to read his body language
Because his posture both in human form and dog form speak his thoughts
Like whenever he’s standing tall then you’ll figure that Minnie’s probably uncomfortable or feels threatened
As quiet as he is
He’s extremely attentive to your needs as well
Seungmin’s able to catch your body language way quicker than you are at reading his
Which means that the moment you look uncomfortable, he’s immediately moving to stand beside you with an arm wrapped around you
Think of it as that TikTok trend that’s like ‘using my scary dog privilege’
In this case
Seungmin’s more than happy to be the scary dog that lets you walk around alone
He’d bark and bite at anything or anyone who would try to hurt you
Even in human form, he’d growl as a warning to other animal hybrids that are around you
Whenever you’re out in public, Seungmin tries to stay by your side just in case anything happens
But when he has to part from you to talk to another group of your friends
He keeps you in his line of sight
He’d always angle himself in conversations so that the person he’s talking to has their back facing you so that he’s able to see you
And when a cat hybrid suddenly approaches you
Seungmin’s more on the attentive side but he hasn’t gone into protective mode because you don’t look uncomfortable
But then your frame starts to shrink
He immediately changes his posture
Which scares the people around him because suddenly, Seungmin looks so scary
He waits a moment longer and the moment you start looking around the room for him, he’s shoved his drink into the hands of Hyunjin so that he can make his way over to you
He slings his arm over your shoulder and glares at the cat hybrid who’s now extremely intimidated by the presence of the labrador hybrid
Seungmin leans close to the cat and growls at them until they run off
He stays with you for the rest of the night and the way he stays in protective mode makes you feel safe
Until you get home and Seungmin’s back to this ball of cuddle fluff that you absolutely love (。♥‿♥。)
Jeongin
Fennec fox hybrid
Has a big pair of white fluffy ears that poke out of his head
Has a fluffy white tail that blends into a more golden colour that’s long enough to poke out from underneath his shirt
He has super insane hearing
Even if he has headphones in, he can hear the outside world
Bodes well for him because whenever you walk into his apartment, he’ll walk out immediately to greet you
He never actually feels hot or warm because his body heat radiates off of his ears
Is always cold in human form
In fox form, his fur insulates his body instead so he doesn’t feel much of a difference
Has a habit of not drinking for hours because he can get stuck in his fox form
Also has a habit of chewing on your desk plants if he deems them edible
Unfortunately for you, that means you’ll come home to your beautiful plant babies half eaten and munched away because your fox boyfriend wanted a snack
To solve this problem, you filled the fridge with berries and vegetables for whenever he feels like snacking
But sometimes he goes overboard and he pretty much eats everything he can find when he forgets to eat for a while
He’s a fox hybrid that doesn’t know how to shift on command
Usually he has this big urge to shift but he’ll be stuck in one form for a while before being able to switch
He doesn’t know any other fox hybrids
So Jeongin has to learn to control his animalistic instincts with the help of you!
His human partner
Lucky for the both of you
You have a friend who’s a red fox hybrid
She’s not a fennec fox
But she still shares similar instincts to Jeongin because they’re both fox hybrids
So now Jeongin comes to you with the biggest smile on his face whenever he’s accomplished something, gushing about how Fox Noona taught him how to shift on command
He’ll show you
And you watch as he shifts into this tiny little fennec fox with a big smile on his snout (T▽T)

A Valentine’s day with Bakugo
genre: fluff words: 1,959
→ summary: you spend the day with bakugo on valentine’s day, until sudden minor mishaps happen, trying to ruin your guys day
note: gender neutral reader
part two coming soon
━━━━━━━━━━━━━┛ ✠ ┗━━━━━━━━━━━━━
You and Bakugo were sitting on the couch, sitting on the far ends of each other as you played on your phone. You knew today was Valentine’s day, and you tried brushing it off, but it was starting to irritate you that you weren’t celebrating.
You took a sigh, pulling your phone from your face as you stared at Bakugo in front of you. You nudged him with your foot, trying to get his attention.
He kicked your foot back harshly, his eyes still peeled to his phone. You rolled your eyes and smiled. “Do you know what today is?”
“Irritate-me-day?” Bakugo asked.
“No, stupid. It’s Valentine’s day.”
“Well, if you have any ideas, count me out.”
You sat up, turning your phone off and looking at him, annoyed. You rolled your eyes when he didn’t pay any attention to you, hitting him playfully. “We should do something!”
Of course, you and Bakugo were friends. Best of friends. But that shouldn’t stop you guys from celebrating together. You guys were both single, after all, so there shouldn’t be a problem.
“Come on, don’t be boring!” You finally said, taking his phone from his grasp. “Let’s buy some candy.”
Bakugo groaned, looking at you, annoyed. “If I agree, will you stop annoying me?”
You nodded, and Bakugo stared at you a moment before sighing, beginning to stretch. An excited smile went across your face as you hopped, running to grab your shoes.
After several minutes of hurrying Bakugo in your excitement, you guys finally made it out your front door. You hopped in the driver seat of your cool ass car that Bakugo so wishes he had. It was practically the only thing he was jealous of that you had, and you loved it.
You never let him drive your car for a simple reason: you loved your car. And you didn’t want him crashing it, as he was learning how to drift the vehicle of his own. Now drifting was hot and all, but your car was yours, and you looked after it.
You guys made it to the store after he whined for numerous minutes. You guys hopped out, and you rushed in front of him to grab one of the baskets outside of the store.
You turned around, handing him a basket as you held yours in the other hand. He groaned, looking at you questionably, only making you extend your arm out further, signaling him to take it.
He finally accepted it, and you smiled, raising your arm in the air. “Let’s go!” You chimed, turning around and happily walking in.
You made your way through the aisles as you searched for your favorite candy, and after several searches, you found it. You threw it in your basket as Bakugo followed you aimlessly.
“Cheer up.” You said to him, glancing at him before putting more random candy in your basket. “We are gonna have fun.”
“I’m not a fan of shopping.” He replied to you as he made his way over to check out some candy beside you, picking up a glass jar full of sweets. He examined the outside, trying to see which candies were inside.
You began to grab more candy down the aisle until you heard Bakugo groan in frustration, along with aggressive shaking.
“I can’t see what other candy is in here!” He shook the jar more.
“You’re gonna drop that if you kee—” Your sentence was cut off by a loud crash. You looked in Bakugo’s direction, and the jar that was once in his hand was now on the ground, broken. Bakugo backed up from the mess.
He then suddenly picked up the piece of candy on the ground. “Oh, the other candy was crunch bars!” He looked at you with a proud smile, holding up the candy happily, proud that he figured it out. “I’m so smart.”
You rolled your eyes as you quickly dusted the broken glass and candy under the aisle shelf with your foot, grabbing Bakugo’s hand and fastly walking out of the aisle. “We were never here.”
You ended up pulling Bakugo across the entire store, somehow ending up in the baking aisle. You smiled and let go of his hand, grabbing the first chocolate cake mix you saw. You tossed it in your basket as you ordered Bakugo to grab the sprinkles, and the last few—minute stops of holding more stuff, you guys were running out of the store.
When the two of you arrived back at your house, you rushed the bags inside in excitement, setting them on the kitchen island. “We are gonna bake cookies.” You told Bakugo, who stood in front of you, taking his shoes off.
“Now? We just got back. And it’s starting to get dark.” He whined in frustration.
“I had a feeling you’d say that, so that’s why we are making it a competition.” You said as you unpacked the bags of items. His head perked up, and sudden interest plastered across his face. He walked over to you, helping you take out the things. “Fine, I’m down. But just this once.” He said in defeat.
You smiled as you grabbed the baking pan that lived in the drawer under the stove, finally making use of it. You guys got the ingredients out, including the flour and eggs, and placed them on the counter. “Go heat the stove.” You told Bakugo.
He walked over and cranked the dial-up. “What temperature?”
“Three—fifty.”
He placed it at the amount and walked back over to you. “Okay, what’s next?”
“You’re gonna measure the flour with this.” You handed a measuring cup to him.
He grabbed it and began tilting the new bag of flour over the measuring cup, spilling it all over the counter.
“No—oh my God, you’re so bad at this.” You giggled, yanking the flour out of his hand. “Put the measuring cup in the bag, stupid.”
“I had another way of doing it, dumbass. You just had to interfere, didn’t you?” He barked back at you with a smile, beginning to do it your way and putting the flour in the bowl.
You rolled your eyes as you guys began to put the ingredients in the bowl, mixing and starting to make a chocolate paste. After many times of sticking your finger in to taste the flavor, it was finally done. You grabbed the bowl, starting to pour it on the buttered pan. “Set the timer.”
Bakugo grabbed his phone, beginning to set it as you placed the metal pan in the oven. You winced at the heat, so you shut the oven door quickly.
“Alright, now we wait.” You said, returning to the counter.
“This is gonna take so long.” He whined. “Why did we decide to do this?”
“Because it’s Valentine’s day.”
You fidgeted with the bag of flour, trying to wait until the timer went off as you guys both stood there, bored. You sighed, looking around to find something to entertain yourself until you looked down at what was in your hands. You gave a mischievous grin as Bakugo hung over the island, his elbows on the counter as he was coaxed by his phone.
You sneakily put your hand in the bag, grabbing a handful of flour, taking a look at Bakugo before slinging it in his direction.
“Hey!” He flinched, staring at you before finally sweeping a pile of flour on the counter and chucking it back at you. You giggled, putting your hand in the bag and throwing more flour at him.
You guys went back and forth with various food items, laughing and dodging the hits, making a complete mess of the kitchen.
You finally threw one last bit of flour until something sharp came flying in your direction, hitting your arm.
You whimpered, dropping the flour in pain, clutching your arm.
“Shit—” Bakugo used the counter to hurry himself to you. “I don’t even know what I threw. Are you okay?” He asked, grabbing your arm and examining it. It was only scraped but bleeding nonetheless.
“I think I’m okay.” You giggled, trying to make light of the situation, but Bakugo thought differently. He dragged you to your bathroom, grabbing the pack of bandaids under your counter. You made your way to sit on top, dangling your legs as you looked at him.
He held his hand out for your arm, and you placed it in his grasp, allowing him to be gentle with you. You never really saw this side of him before, but who wouldn’t be like this when someone got hurt?
He shook his head, laughing as he placed the bandaid on your wound. “I am sorry; I guess I went a little crazy.”
You giggled along, rubbing your arm in comfort. “It’s okay.”
He smiled, staring at you for a few moments, but only for it to slowly fade as his eyes darted from your lips to your eyes several times. Your facial expression changed when you realized what was about to happen, and it gave you slight butterflies thinking about it.
Suddenly, the timer went off in the kitchen, making you guys both jump.
You sat there for a moment, trying to recollect yourself before hopping off the counter, heading into the kitchen and to the stove. You opened the oven and took the pan of cookies out, but only for a burnt smell to fill the air. You pinched your brows as you placed the cookies on the stove. “How long did you set the timer?”
“Thirty minutes,” Bakugo replied.
“It was supposed to be fifteen minutes.”
“You didn’t tell me that.”
“I thought you would have known!” You rolled your eyes playfully. “Okay, it’s fine; they probably taste fine.”
The kitchen was jumbled, but you were much too tired to clean it as it was late. It wasn’t even that bad of a mess, no matter how much you both threw at each other. You put the cookies on a plate and grabbed a bowl for the candy as you walked yourself to the couch.
You grabbed the remote as Bakugo sat relatively close to you. You tried not to question it as you picked one of your favorite cheesy romance movies and set the remote back down on the coffee table.
“Wanna try them?” You asked, grabbing a cookie and looking in his direction. He nodded, grabbing a cookie and almost taking a bite until you stopped him. “Dude, I meant together.”
He rolled his eyes, waiting for you until you counted down the seconds, both taking a bite at the same time. Immediately, Bakugo spat it out and gasped for air dramatically. You thought he was dramatic for a moment until the flavor set in your mouth, also having to do the same.
“Those are disgusting. What did you do?” Bakugo asked you, shaking his head from the flavor. You looked at him oddly.
“What did YOU do? I followed the directions.”
“I did too, if you don’t remember, dumbass.”
You rolled your eyes. “You are the one who burnt them.”
“Well—other than that, I followed the directions.” He threw the words back at you.
You sighed annoyingly, setting the cookies back on the table and grabbing the candy instead, popping it in your mouth. The flavor seemed to override the burnt taste. The next following minutes of the movie was promising. You were enjoying the moving pixels, but Bakugo, on the other hand, was only half into it.
You leaned your back into the couch, beginning to get comfy, until suddenly a flash of light came through the window, followed by a massive blast of thunder, the power abruptly turning off.

The next morning, the café regulars buzzed around the TV monitors, excitedly chatting about the news. Official footage of the attack had finally been aired. Concrete flew everywhere as the villain lashed out against heroes, sending distraught civilians fleeing from the scene. The scene that every news station had on repeat, however, was that of several tons of concrete on a direct collision course for a young family, until Ground Zero put himself between the two. He squared back one shoulder to pulverize the rubble with a blast, and in that moment, his wild eyes were molten flames, the fine cascade of dust casting a hazy halo around his form.
It was such a harsh contrast to the villain swinging a pillar of concrete immediately after, colliding directly with the hero’s chest and sending him hurtling back against the harsh exterior of another building, slumping bonelessly on the ground.
“He saved them.” You whispered to yourself. Icy needles twisted in your chest. Eijirou had  trusted you to care for his closest friend at his most vulnerable. The café was much closer than any hospital to the scene, but your heart skipped a beat, fluttering in astonishment. “He could have died. It’s a wonder he didn’t.” Just how close had Ground Zero been to death’s door when he showed up here?
“Blasty is lucky he’s got a rad, manly partner like me.” Eijirou’s voice startled you, suddenly far too close to your ear.
“Hi!” You squeaked. “Didn’t hear you come in.”
“You think I’d let my best girl go un-thanked after saving my partner’s ass yesterday?” His arms swept you into a tight bear hug, twirling your feet off of the floor. Eijirou’s easy smile seemed to smooth over the awkward tension from the day before, as if it were no more than an insignificant blight of an otherwise sunny day.
“Quit harassing the woman, Shitty Hair. We’re here on business.”
“She likes it.” Eijirou had the gall to stick out his tongue. “Isn’t that right?”
“I, I don’t mind.” You couldn’t help but squeeze your eyes shut in embarrassment, dropping your head forward, and you prayed that no one would notice. This crush was spiraling out of control, as the sturdy muscles that could shatter any obstacle and strong enough to lift cars supported you easily in his embrace.
“ ‘Don’t mind’ isn’t the same as ‘like’.” Ground Zero’s mouth turned even further downward into a scowl. Reluctantly, Eijirou set you down, and you felt cold at the absence of his touch. The tension settled again like a thick cloud, choking out whatever embers of affection you felt for the red haired hero.
“I didn’t mean to impose.” The red-head’s own face was dusted with faint pink, nervously scratching the back of his neck.
“It’s no problem.” You tried your best to smile kindly, wincing internally at the memory of his flinch. “Why don’t I get you both some coffee on the house? It’s the least I can do for everything you two do to protect the city.”
“One black coffee it is then!” Eijirou perked back up.
“So, I take it you’ll have the latte, extra heavy cream with two pumps caramel, two pumps cinnamon, and cinnamon-brown sugar mix dusted on top?”
Ground Zero’s eyes narrowed. “You don’t have to say that so loud.”
“No shame.” You chuckled despite yourself. “Plenty of people take their coffee sweet, too.”
“Don’t spare Blasty’s feelings!” Eijirou laughed. “Even Mr. ‘Nothing is spicy enough’ likes sweets on occasion.”
“You better shut your mouth!” Ground Zero snapped, his tone climbing with each word. Curiously, Eijirou kept laughing, and tapped at his own ear.
“Right, got it.” The blonde grumbled. “Too loud.”
“Here you go, boys.”
“I have a name, you know.” The blonde held the cup up, scowling. “I’m off work, damn it. You called Shitty hair by his name on the cup.”
“It’s not like you introduced yourself between eating shit against the building and going in for surgery.” Eijirou scoffed.
“And you did?”
“Kiri stayed with me while they gave me IV fluids.” You supplied bashfully. “And I wanted to know when you made it out okay.”
“Call me Bakugou then.” He made a strangled noise. “When I’m not in suit tearing shit up, I don’t wanna hear ‘Ground Zero’ from you, got it?
“Not your given name?” Eijirou seemed to take a savage joy in goading on the explosive hero. “That’s awful cold, Katsuki. She did save you from a hospital stay and a month off of hero work.”
“Or Katsuki, whatever.” If looks could kill, Eijirou would have dropped dead in his tracks. Bakugou’s eye twitched and small firework-pops crackled off of his palms, clenched into fists at his side.  You hoped that the café regulars were too enamored with the news and their own conversations to notice the sparks flying.
“I can call you Bakugou, if that’s what make you more comfortable. Wouldn’t want to get on your bad side.” You chuckled, carefully watching his expression for his reaction to the playful jab.
“Kacchan’s bark is worse than his bite, at least off of the battlefield.” A new voice drifted in from the door. The emerald curls, gelled up from his undercut, were unmistakable. “I’m afraid that we didn’t get introduced last night. I’m Deku, but you can call me Midoriya if you’d like.”
“Kacchan?” You grinned wickedly. “Isn’t that so cute!”
Bakugou bristled. “What the hell do you think you’re doing, you fucking nerd!” He whipped around to snarl at the green-haired hero that had just walked in. For someone who was effectively co-workers with the number one hero, Bakugou acted like he despised the man.
“Aw, pump the breaks Kacchan.” Midoriya scrunched his freckled nose in a wide grin. “I’m just here to say hello to the woman who saved your life last night. So, this is where Kiri has been getting your coffee from? It’s such a nice little café, I think I’ll have stop by more often.”
“Like hell you will! We found it first!” Bakugou growled, stepping between you and Deku, while Eijirou chimed in the background, “I think you mean that I found it first.”
“Boys, boys, you’re all very pretty.” You ducked around the pro hero’s side, attempting to soothe the bickering. “I have plenty of coffee to go around. “
“You’re not keeping her as your personal barista and healer, Kacchan.”
“What happened to keeping this on the down-low?” Bakugou suddenly stiffened, whispering harshly.
“I think someone is feeling a bit embarrassed.” Eijirou rolled his eyes.
“I got my shit rocked on national television, of fucking course I feel embarrassed.” The blonde snapped. “But for her safety, I thought we agreed to keep any rescue shit-talk out of the public eye.”
Wincing, you looked up at him. “I think they’re calling you saving that family the rescue of the year though. And lots of people have minor healing quirks.”
Whipping his head back and forth, he snagged the strings of your apron and tugged you behind the coffee bar, through the doorway into the kitchen.
“Wait!” The two other heroes followed suit, chasing you as Bakugou dragged you out of the public eye.
“You don’t have a ‘minor healing quirk.’ “ He scowled, placing a hand on each of your shoulders, hands trembling as if he were resisting the urge to shake you. You could feel the residual heat of his calloused palms, the threat of an explosion ghosting along your skin and sending shivers up your spine.
“You have a self-destructive healing quirk that has major potential to get you kidnapped. Do you know the League of Villains would do to get their hands on you? Or fuck it, the Hero Commission? They’d keep you caged up like some animal to fix up their toys as they broke so that they could be sent out scot-free again.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah, oh.” Out of the corner of your eye, you could see Midoriya and Eijirou recoil, especially as the blonde hero turned his ire towards them once again. “Is some kind of joke to you two? Kirishima, if you could take two minutes to keep it in your pants, and Deku, if you could be serious, we need to come up with a plan.”
“Yes, Kacchan.” Midoriya and Eijirou nodded.
“Where do you live?” His burning eyes narrowed in your direction once again.
Swallowing thickly, you met his gaze. “In the loft above the café.”
“Hmm. Who all knows about the full extent of your quirk?”
“Just my parents, and my best friend from middle school, who moved to the states while we were in college.”
“Maybe she should stay with one of us?” Midoriya offered. “Just to see if anyone’s decided to target her?”
Panic froze your feet to the floor. “I don’t think that’s necessary.” You laughed nervously, fiddling with the apron strings tied at your hip. “I mean, you’re all very nice, but I could never ask that of anyone. I’m up at 4 in the morning to get the café ready to open at five, and walking alone in the dark is not my forte.” Especially if I might as well have a big target painted on my forehead now.
“The League definitely keeps an eye on our flats. They might not have made the connection that she’s done anything yet, but moving her in would be a surefire way to draw their attention. Also, there’s no way the Commission would just ignore someone else hanging out all the time.” Eijirou argued. “I think it would be better to set up surveillance on the café and her loft, and maybe get her a panic button or something.”
“A panic button.” Bakugou snorted. “I don’t know if you’ve heard of it, but there are these novel things called ‘cellphones.’ “
“And if she can’t call?” Midoriya raised an eyebrow.
“Brave words for someone who dropped his location to Icy-Hot, with literally no context, in the middle of an alleyway, and he magically appeared anyways.”
Sighing and stepping between the two bickering men, Eijirou held his hand out expectantly. “Here, I’ll put our numbers in your phone. We should probably scope out your apartment later.”
“I close at five tonight.” You offered, passing your cell to him, contacts open. “I’ll probably be done cleaning up by six, but you’re free to drop by whenever you get the chance after that. All of this feels pretty crazy though. It’s not like I did anything out in the open.”
Turning on the full force of his overwhelming intensity, Bakugou rounded on you once again, having caught the tail of your conversation. “There’s a couple articles floating around. You’re in the pictures, being floated to the hospital, and some low life bloggers are wondering how I was fine so soon afterwards, when Recovery Girl was on the other side of the country for some other case.” Venom dripped from his words, as if this were your fault somehow.
“It’s not my fault that I helped you!” Anger leaked into your voice. You couldn’t believe that he had the audacityto blame you for this. “Don’t talk to me like it is. I couldn’t not do anything. It’s a wonder that hit didn’t do worse, and I am certainly not responsible for them taking me to the hospital with you.”
In frustration, you stormed out of the kitchen, straightening your apron and apologizing to the handful of customers who were waiting by the cash register. A friendly smile and a few discounted coffees later, they sat down at a booth. The heroes were still in your kitchen, and you felt your resolve to ignore them crumbling. “I did give Kiri and Bakugou free coffee earlier.” You mumbled to yourself, a mischievous idea taking root; Bakugou’s buttons were so easy to press.
Leaning around the corner, you poked your head back through the kitchen doorway. The heroes froze, their argument in low tones evaporating with your return. “Midoriya!” You grinned, drawing out the syllables playfully and deliberately ignoring the blonde hero’s angry stare. “How do you like your coffee? Sweet as you are?”
“Uh, umm” He stuttered and his eyes darted between you and the door. “With oat milk, white chocolate and toffee, and iced please.”
“Coming right up! On the house.” The sound of sparks dancing off of Bakugou’s palms eased your flare of anger, taking a little bit of satisfaction in riling up the blonde in return, and you set about making the drink.
The trio must have finally decided to drop their discussion, and shortly followed you out to wait by the coffee bar. Bakugo turned his back to you, eyeing the door and clutching his coffee  while Midoriya and Eijirou resigned themselves to facing you, their awkward expressions apologetic. The other café patrons were thankfully still transfixed by the TVs, oblivious to the situation at hand.
“Here’s your phone back.” Eijirou mumbled, setting your phone on the counter. “He doesn’t mean it. He’s just frustrated and annoyed, nothing against you personally. It’s just kinda how he is, ya know? He takes it out on everyone. He’s been this way since he was a teenager, but he doesn’t blame you. Promise.”
“Hmm. I suppose I can accept your apology on his behalf, just this once.” You whispered back, sliding a coffee cup to Midoriya, who sipped it gratefully.
“We’ll be back later. Come on, nerds.” Bakugo’s voice was gruff as he called over his shoulder. “We have a meeting and a patrol shift soon.”
The heroes left and an unease settled in your gut at their absence, acutely missing their larger than life presence. Even as the customers milled about, coming up for refills and pastries, their words weighed on your mind. Villains and Heroes had never been a major point of contention in your life; a quirk like yours wasn’t suited for the spotlight, and like thousands of others, accepted your fate as a civilian.
The coffee shop felt like a homage to another era, before quirks existed. The small planters bloomed in the window display under your mindful care, without any sparks of magic to enhance their color or growth. The coffee beans that arrived each week were roasted delicately by hand, and each new drink was born from trial and error; no surprising powers of charm or persuasion lured customers to your door. It was an honest life that you were proud of, built with hard work and love.
Ringing up another customer and brewing the earl grey tea for a London Fog, it felt like your head was ringing. Your quirk had never been an active threat to your well-being. You had gained some control over the years, having only been able to tend minor scratches and bruises as a child, but never showed enough promise to be recruited into the medical field as a young teen. Even now, the drawbacks were too great. Healing left you exhausted, and the more extensive the injury, the greater the fatigue.
It wasn’t like you came from a family of fantastic heroes either. Your mother worked as a doctor in a wound care and surgical center because she could clean infected tissue at the expense of the patient’s energy. Your father’s quirk was completely unrelated to your own, allowing him to sculpt metal by heating his hands, albeit without flames. It was hard to believe that the arguably worse version of your mother’s quirk made you a target, but the underlying assumptions behind it sent shivers of fear down your spine. If there was no regard for your well-being, your quirk could be indispensable, could be used to patch anyone up at the expense of draining you dry.
Nevertheless, the hours ticked by, dread worrying the pit of your stomach. Bile rose in the back of your throat the longer your anxious thoughts raced. Without the grace of someone with a more offensive quirk, there was little you could do to defend yourself.
Maybe Bakugou was right to be annoyed, but he didn’t have the right to be such an ass about it. Closing time was only half an hour away, and the customers had dwindled in the shop. The pleasant humming of customers faded, exposing every raw nerve that you had. The last person was out, and at 5:06,
... there was a knock.
Snapping to attention, you jerked towards the doors, feeling a strange mixture of relief and annoyance upon seeing Bakugou waiting by the door. Sighing, you called out, “It’s still unlocked.”
He didn’t enter though. He leaned partially against the window with one hand, the other shoved deep into the pocket of his white jeans. He had the hood up on his black and gold hoodie, but not enough to conceal his distinctive blonde hair and you could have sworn his red eyes could burn a hole through anything as he peered in the window. He must not have heard you, and you steeled your resolve to go and let him in.
“Shitty Hair sent me.” He grumbled.
“Hmm.” You hummed in response, wandering back behind the counter to tuck away the extra bottles of syrup and take down the pastry display. “Make yourself at home then.”
The hero looked even more uncomfortable, his shifting gaze never lingering on anything for too long, before he spotted the bottle of disinfectant. To your surprise, he started wiping off tables, but you don’t breath a word, afraid to break the uncanny silence.
At 5:45, Eijirou, Midoriya, and a woman you could only assume was Uravity knocked, and Bakugou dropped the supplies as if he had been burned. Midoriya was the first to heckle him, teasing “Kacchan, I didn’t know that you could be helpful!”
“I was bored, you damn nerd. That’s all.”
The heroes were almost unrecognizably causal. Uravity and Midoriya were in matching letterman jackets, sky blue and patterned with delicate pink cherry blossoms falling from slender black branches, with Shouto written across the back in a beautiful script. Eijirou was also devastatingly casual, wearing baggy, low-rise black jeans and a white v-neck that dipped dangerously below his collar bones. His long red hair was up in his trademark loose ponytail, spilling over his shoulders and down his back.
“So nice to see you again! I’m Uraraka.” Her smile glowed as she bounced forward to greet you. “It’s nice to really see the place that Kirishima and Bakugo talk so much about.”
A frown creased your features. “I think I would have remembered Bakugou coming in for coffee. Doesn’t Kiri just get his?” You mumbled, panicking as you realized it was out loud.
Thankfully, Uraraka giggled. “No, he just won’t let Kiri get coffee from anywhere else now. I think the whole agency knows his order by now.”
“It’s just the least shitty.” Bakugou growled. “But whatever. I have shit to do, so let’s get this over with.”
“Lead the way.” Midoriya smiled kindly.
The stairs to the flat were in the kitchen, the door tucked out of sight next to a supply closet. Butterflies fluttered in your chest, and a sudden self-consciousness that almost froze you in place. The apartment was an intimate insight into your life and personality. Your reading was on the living room table, and cherished photos hung on the walls. Is my laundry hanging up to dry? You winced at the thought.
“Welcome!” You forced a smile and led them to the kitchen table. “So, what do you need to check out?”
“We’re not trying to invade your privacy more than necessary.” Midoriya looked solemn, glancing at you shyly from underneath his lashes. “I was thinking we should put a camera right in the stairway that faces the entrance, another on the fire escape, and one on the outside of each of your windows. Then, we can just set up a bunch around the café.”
“Oh,” You relaxed into your seat. “That’s not as bad as I was expecting.”
Midoriya and Uraraka were  sitting ram-rod straight at your table, posture stiff and schooled. Eijirou was examining your end table in the living room, carefully turning your favorite candle in his hands, while Bakugou trailed behind like a sullen shadow.
“We just want to make sure you’re safe.” Uraraka reassured. “We’ll probably change the patrol route to make sure that we stop by here, but we won’t be in the shop every time. If nothing is weird, we’ll leave you be after a while.”
“I’m glad.” The remaining tension left your shoulders, and you let out a sigh of relief. “I really don’t want to put my life on pause. I’ve worked really hard for what I have here. “
“Of course!” Eijirou looked over his shoulder, now surveying the sliding glass door that led to the fire escape. “This is the best place in town, and I don’t think I’ll ever stay awake through another Commission meeting without my usual again. Plus, we owe you big time. It’s our fault that you’re starting to get some media attention.”
“Do the cameras need plug-ins or batteries?” You asked cautiously.
“Nah,  they’re the special surveillance ones Chargebolt rigged, and we’ll get a notification if the battery is less than 25%. We’ve just gotta get them set up. Uraraka can up to stick them, then make ‘em weightless so they don’t fall down.”
At Eijirou’s words, you could see Uraraka tapping her fingers, jumping up to stick the device to the ceiling. With a frown of concentration, she pulled out her phone, checking the feed and fiddling with the camera until it was angled to her satisfaction before drifting back to the floor.
“We can take it from here. Feel free to go back to closing, or what you usually do in the evening. Don’t be afraid to let us know if you need anything.” Midoriya nodded before excitedly leaning in closer, eyes sparkling with the enthusiasm of a little kid. “Also, at some point, can I study your quirk? I keep notebooks of all different quirks I encounter, and yours is so interesting.”
“Shut your trap, nerd!” Bakugou growled from behind Eijirou, who jumped and clutched his partner’s arm. “Stop acting like we’re at the damn zoo. Save it for later.”
“Am not, Kacchan!” Midoriya whined. Turning to you, he put up his hands in a peace gesture. “I think we better get going, though. I think today’s probably been quite the day for you. Uraraka will set those up outside, and we’ll be out of your hair.”
Snagging Bakugou’s sleeve, Midoriya pulled him unwillingly down the stairs, with Uraraka having already moved on to install the security cameras in the café. Despite his tough front, the blonde didn’t fight too much, only grimacing and batting away the other hero’s hand as they left.
“Hey Kiri,” You said nervously, before the hero had the chance to follow his teammates out of your apartment. “Thanks for having Bakugou come over to be there while I was closing. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about what you guys said this morning. I just feel so uneasy, like every stranger could be dangerous and I can’t do anything to save myself. It really set my mind at ease to have someone else there.”
“I bet.” He winced with sympathy. “But I didn’t ship Bakugou out here. He volunteered, and you didn't hear that from me.”

idk what the fuck did i do to yeah get ready for visual cancer and my bad writing.
´´John, that's enough! ´´ claims an annoying Alexander, a 17-year-old boy who attends Columbia University, this boy had charming eyes of a blue color combined with violet and a curly hair dyed a strong brown that He could almost look red, not forgetting his beautiful freckles which were scattered all over his face. He had to admit that he was very feminine and his height and body did not help, he was very handsome among women and men although he denied it. Taking her hands off his insistent boyfriend, John, the ones that only managed to scare him.
And it was October 31 and instead of going out to party with the boys or the Schuyler sisters, he could even stay with Gil or George and Martha but no, he had decided to stay with John in his apartment, to watch movies, taking advantage of his parents and siblings are not there.
Serious mistake.
You're a coward. . .''John jokes, continuing with the pinches that distract the freckled, in his attempt to pay attention. They were watching the Japanese version of ´´The Aro´´ and the truth is that Alex was on the verge of a heart attack, he was not good at horror films, although he had a masochistic taste for these types of films.
´´John, seriously. . .Y-stop! ´´ he asks in a not so convincing way, noticing how the blond's hands begin to slip through his clothes. Alexander knows that they are alone and that they will probably do "that" to take advantage of the time together; he resists anyway.
deep down he liked that Laurens wanted more of him.
Come on, you know the end. They all die, '' he whispers in Alex's ear and although he knows he is right, his hoarse and excited voice is what disturbs him.
In less than he expects, he's already got John on top of him and he's collapsed on the bed in a struggle actually. . .not so forced. And that although he does not want to admit it, Alexander likes that rude and daring side that he rarely showed and despite that, it was ´´Jack´´ who started this type of encounter, mostly to commit indecent acts and explore the joys of sex.
´´ Why don´t you stop Lex? ´´ jokes John with a little impatience and his cock is too erect. ´´oh! I don't know, maybe it's because I have a fucking fear that a woman will appear from the TV and kill us? ´ 'Alex sarcastically responds, with a small blush peeking out of his freckled cheeks and managing to get a small laugh from both of them. Listening to Alex's melodious laugh, for John it was music to his ears, but, if he had known this was going to happen, he would have put him in one of those 80's movies, with those he hadn't had any problems the last time.
"It doesn't matter, we'll fix it," he says, smiling confidently and pulling his pants down on his embarrassed and sarcastic boyfriend. Leaving those slender and shapely legs in sight.
He didn't need his dick to lift anyway, as long as he loosened it would be fine.
´´J-jack, u-hm. . . ” Alex gasps when he feels Laurens's tongue brush against her belly button in circles, as his hands venture up his thighs, spreading them wide open. In the background you can still hear the screams of the horror movie.
Movie that they will never finish seeing.
"Do you like it?" Jack asks between gasps and his cock about to burst. He had spent minutes preparing hard the contracted entrance of his dear boy, who would not stop panting and letting out moans that made him lose what little patience he had. ´´Y-yes. . I think I'm ready," he announces to which John, instantly, unbuttons his pants. Releasing his aching erection.
´´Ngh. . . Alex´´ John moans hoarsely against his ear, at the same time that he aligned his cock in his tight entrance, without waiting any longer, the blonde enters suddenly, drawing a groan from both of them at feeling so complete. It didn't take long when he began to thrust into his ass, as the sound of the bed and their sexual release filled the room. For a moment, none of them feel the noise of the film anymore. They are both gone in that dance of sweaty bodies that invokes pleasure and to which they have become addicted without knowing how.
Until something rings.
´´What was that? ´´ asks Alexander to the busy John, who doesn´t even flinch at the loud sound. He is still very immersed in his work of going out and going into the depths of his being.
A second noise is heard.
'' John. . .´´ Alex insists, starting to get really scared. It sounded like knocks, coming from the first floor. ´´Alex, for the shit stop squeezing me ngh !. ... it must be a fucking bird crashing into the window.´´ he tries to calm him down, feeling how his member is compressed against his insides, every time the freckled body tenses.
"What if he is your father?"
The blond's face pales at the horrendous possibility.
"Shit, get dressed!" He says, completely leaving his entrance, and then running off to get their clothes. He throws Alex's clothes at his face, ordering him to stay in the room and for no reason leave there, until verifying if he is his father.
He doesn't know about their relationship, nor that Alexander is in the house. . His presence of him there would be something very annoying to explain.
(…)
The minutes pass and John does not return, Alex begins to worry.
´´John? ´´ he asks once in the kitchen, he chosen to go downstairs anyway. They had spent several minutes without knowing anything about her boyfriend and now she was really scared
He walks towards the front door. . .
It's open.
. . .
With a little chill through running her body, he quickly goes to the kitchen for something to threaten his possible aggressor. He takes a knife, but since he does not consider himself a murderer, he decides to exchange it for a large meat grinder. At least with this one he could take down the possible intruder, before escaping.
Alexander, barely breathing, creeps into the house. There is no noise in it and no sign of John. So, drawing courage from him, he does not know where, he goes outside through the backyard door, where the entrance to the shed can be seen ajar.
A stain of what appears to be blood can be seen on the door of this and causes the freckled young man to collect his heart. Then, shivering and tears streaming from his violet eyes, he enters desperately.
´´J-jack? ´´ he asks with a shaking voice and gasping for breath. He does not see the blond, because it is very dark. He advances looking for the wall switch and then. . .
Then he steps on something that made his blood run cold.
´´AHHHHHHH !! ´´ he yells when he steps on something similar to a body, then realizing that it is just a very battered scarecrow. He breathes a sigh of relief and luckily for him, he finally finds the light switch.
He turns it on.
´´AHHHHHHHHHH !!!! ´´
Alexander runs terrified of the place before what he saw. A shed full of blood-red stains and something that looked like guts scattered on the floor, but what had scared him the most was the dark cloak one that he could make out at the bottom of a corner.
It was that of a person.
. . .
Alarmed, he enters the house and without being able to reach the bathroom, in the kitchen dishwasher he begins to vomit. His body trembles and tears of deep pain fall from his eyes, as he thinks about the possibility of what he saw spread across the walls and floor. . . was his jack
-Hey, don't you think we went out of line?-
-Shut up dumb.-
-oh god, I can't anymore.-
-It was your idea, I'm just following you, asshole! -
-my idea?, it was Ben! -
-Don't blame me for his perversions, when Alex finds out he's going to hit us with that butcher's machete.-
Three young people comment on their joke while hiding in some bushes, unfortunately, precisely the ones facing the kitchen.
(…)
'' Shit, we're more than screwed. . .´´ are Benjamin's words as he sees Alexander open the bushes, revealing his hiding place. His face overcomes what is anger. His eyes are still red from crying and his serious gesture is one of complete hatred.
And he still has the machete in his hand.
"B-ben, weren't we going to the party?" Hale asks Benjamin, who nods nervously, because he knows that if they don't get out of there. . . . they will go very badly.
Alexander although he seems a weakling, but he has strength.
And a machete.
´´y-yes´´ supports him ´´ well dude. . . take care! ´´ Benjamin says goodbye, slapping John on the back, in an attempt to give him support. Although rather, it is a gesture of condolences to his sexual life.
Tonight someone was going to stay without fucking.
(…)
´´Alex,. .hey. . .´´ He tries to get closer to the redhead, taking care that the minor does not split his head.
´´NO! ´´ Alex jerks away from the arm that is trying to take him. "DON'T TOUCH ME, YOU'RE A DAMNED IDIOT!" He shouts angrily, trying not to give her the satisfaction of seeing him break into tears.
Although he was already doing it.
John, like few times in his life, feels bad about the things that
he does. And he had never seen Alex like this.
Crying as if his life were lost on it, and with so much sorrow in his eyes.
This time,
He messed it up.
´´Alex, sorry. . .´´ he whispers and makes a second attempt to get closer, which this time, if it seems to work. His dear boy is so sad and hurt that he does not resist when John embraces him, pulling him close to his body. ´´ I already told you I'm sorry, I'm fine. . Come on, don't cry. . .´´ he tries to calm him down, stroking his back and giving him small kisses on his face full of small salty tears.
'I-I thought you were dead. . .I-I saw all those things and. . .´´ Alex tries to speak but only starts crying again. John, feeling like the worst beast in the world, accompanies him in bed. Laying him on his bed and settling aside to caress his face, guiltily, until he stops crying. Spreading kisses down his cheeks, which were now red as was his nose.
´´J-john no. . .'' Alex tries to stop him when he sees him approach his lips to his face, with the intention of kiss him. ´ ´I v-vomited´´ he confesses ashamed, hiccupping from crying.
´´ I don't care, it's okay. I can clean you with my tongue. . .´´ John insists, speaking flirtatiously to make him laugh again. He likes Alexander who usually laughs, who cries in this way hurts him, and more to know that it was his fault.
´´Stop your nonsense. . . . Can we sleep? ´´ asks what Laurens, trying to control her sexual / depressive urges, nods.
He would have to stay with it this time.
They both snuggle up, covering themselves well with the blankets and giving each other a couple of kisses before going to sleep.
A noise is heard again
Alexander, snuggled against Jack's chest, looks up. John, annoyed, decides to ignore the sound similar to that of a while ago.
Again he is heard again.
These idiots. . .´´ he complains, taking his cell phone to give Benjamin's life sermon. When he answers him, he receives exactly that.
-Hey idiot, are you retarded or what? Stop with your shit or seriously I'm going to kick your balls, and until they come out.
But it is not Benjamin who speaks, it is more, nobody answers. The music of the party is not heard either. Only someone's breathing can be heard in response, so terrifying it makes John hang up the phone and throw it to the ground as if on fire.
´´What's wrong? ´´ asks Alex, calmer now. Jack was a little pale. And is that John, had already heard that noise. He heard it when he stood at the entrance of the house, when he went out in search of what was generating that annoying blow, and then ended up meeting his friends and playing that stupid joke for which he now feared that the freckled man would really hate him.
"It's nothing, let's go back to sleep." He replies, trying to convince himself that it must be another stupid joke of those two. Alexander closes his eyes quietly but John cannot sleep, any noise alerts him. He has a bad feeling.
´´ What's wrong, can't you sleep? ´´ asks Alex, noticing how his Jack moves too much on the bed. . . "no. . . .i have a little insomnia" he confesses, not wanting to terrify him with the chilling thoughts of him.
Where there was still someone in his home.
´´ Me too´´ Alex mentions as he snuggles deeper into John's arms. "Do you want to fuck?" Asks the blonde, to which Alex just laughs. "Jack, don't think I forgot the joke," he replies to which John huffs, frustrated, assuming there really wouldn't be sex today.
´´ although I am surprised that they were so detailed with all that of the blood, guts and that dark suit.´´
´´What a dark suit? ´´ asks John, not remembering that in the plan.
´´the one with the disguise, the dark cape.´´
´´ There was no dark layer .´´
´´ but I saw someone at the back of the shed.´´
. . .
This is when John is more alarmed than before.
And when another noise is heard, this time they can both notice
Which is from a window on the first floor. and that this time they will not be able to see the light of a new day.
Morning news, yesterday October 31, two bodies were found on 123rd Street, because of the atrocious way in which they were murdered, they could not recognize them, however, thanks to our best police officers, we now know their names. John Laurens and Alexander Hamilton. we recommend not leaving the house while we still do not catch this man.
On tv there was an image of the murderer of that couple.
who could say that John Andre's jealousy would lead him to commit such an atrocity.

“Jon, take the pills.”
Jon, wrapped in a blanket and staring out over the railing of the flat’s small balcony, stayed silent.
“Fine, I’ll just wait.” Martin set the vitamin bottles and the glass of water on the sturdiest-looking part of the railing, and shifted the second chair enough so he could sit down.
“You’re going to get cold,” Jon said.
“Yeah, probably.” Martin was dressed in a light jumper with only a t-shirt beneath it. It had been warm enough earlier in the day—the weather was getting nicer—but as the sun started to go down it was cooling off.
“Your choice.” Jon picked up his lighter from the small table between them and lit another cigarette, and they sat together as the sun continued its journey below the horizon. It really was beautiful, Martin thought. He hadn’t taken the opportunity to observe any part of nature in a long time. It hadn’t ever been much of a priority to him, but there was something nice about taking in the colors that spilled across the sky—deep yellows and oranges that gave way to pinks and purples, and eventually a dark glowing blue that was only barely distinguishable from black.
Martin wrapped his arms around himself.
“At least get a coat,” Jon said.
“At least take those pills.”
“God, you’re stubborn.” Jon readjusted in his seat to pull his legs up under the blanket a little more.
“Pot and kettle, Jon.”
“Why should I take them? You heard the doctors, there isn’t anything actually wrong with me. They’re just grasping at straws.”
After an hour or so on the porch at Hill Top Road, Martin had calmed enough to make the decision to go to A&E. Although Jon had protested, the fact was that he had been too weak to do anything about it, and Martin only felt a little bad taking advantage of that. As he’d said then, he couldn’t believe he hadn’t insisted on doing it before; he’d become so used to not being able to get help, that he hadn’t really considered it until then. He wasn’t going to mess around anymore, though, especially now that he realized he might not always be able to help on his own.
After hearing about Jon’s recent fatigue and his fainting episode, the healthcare staff had run a lot of tests. They’d hooked him up to monitors, measured things, done blood draws. Martin had to admit Jon’s description of their conclusions wasn’t far off—they didn’t find anything explicitly wrong with him. There was no diagnosis they felt comfortable giving, although they had pointed out a few possibilities that they should monitor. And they’d recommended the vitamins, of course.
“They did say you have nutritional deficiency—”
“—minor nutritional deficiency—”
“—and your vitamin D levels were actually quite low.” Martin shivered involuntarily in the cool night air.
“God damn it, Martin.” Jon fidgeted with the lighter on the table, but didn’t actually reach for another cigarette. “Will you take the blanket, anyway?”
“Will you take those pills?”
“They won’t help with anything,” Jon protested. “We both know that. This is ridiculous.”
“Speak for yourself,” Martin countered. “I’m not assuming anything about what will help. Beyond that, given how you’ve been eating, they can’t hurt. And finally, yes, I am being ridiculous, and I don’t care.”
“I didn’t say you were being ridiculous.”
“No, I said it. I’ll own it. I am being ridiculous, because I don’t want to lose you, and I’m scared. I don’t want to lose you now any more than I did when we were walking through an apocalypse together, or when you were being kidnapped by actual monsters every week, or when you were taking unannounced holidays in coffins or whatever.” Martin shivered again. “Look, it’s just not that hard to take them, Jon.”
“Well, when you put it that way, I’m behaving like an ass,” Jon sighed.
“Now I didn’t say that,” Martin replied. “I’m not trying to ignore what you’re feeling Jon, and I know there’s not a quick fix for any of it. It’s just that it’s—it’s such a small thing, and if it helps, at least it’s something.”
Jon grumbled.
“And not to bring this up again, but—I mean, it might help if you would just talk to me?”
Jon shook his head. “I can’t. When I try to put it into words, I—it never comes out right. I sound like a—well, a monster.” Jon seemed to shrink back into the blanket even more. “Or maybe I am one, and I can’t face you knowing it.”
“Jon…” Martin hesitated, but decided to finish the thought. “I’ll be honest with you. I’ve asked myself if—if you are.”
Jon turned to him. “And?”
“And I don’t think so,” Martin said simply.
“Why not?”
“To be completely clear, it’s not the most rational reason. I just don’t think I could love you like this if you were. You’re just not bad. You’ve only ever wanted to do the right thing. You’ve only ever wanted to protect people, to protect me, even if—” Martin cleared his throat. “Even if we haven’t always agreed on what that looks like.”
“I see,” Jon said softly, turning to look over the railing again.
“So, if you don’t want to talk, that’s fine.” Martin leaned forward to rest his elbows on his knees, blowing warm air into his hands. “But in that case, it’s vitamins and freezing myself.”
“May I ask a favor first?” Jon said, eyeing the glass of water warily.
“Depends on the favor.”
“Will you make me some tea?”
“Of course.” Martin was relieved; that was one thing he imagined he’d always be happy to do. “But you’ll take those pills if I do?”
“Yes,” Jon said. “You’ve made your case.”
He reached down to kiss Jon’s head before he walked back into the kitchen, and noted with comfort that Jon leaned into him as he did.
***
That was Sunday evening. Since they’d returned from A&E, Jon had spent most of the time before that afternoon sleeping. He’d been restless, and Martin had slept on the couch for a few nights to try to let Jon get as much sleep as he could. Of course, he had woken anxiously every few hours needing to check on Jon, so he was more than ready to go to bed after their discussion on the balcony. He ended up turning in before Jon, so he was a little surprised to find him already awake and sitting back against his pillows when he opened his eyes on Monday.
“Hey,” Martin said, moving closer to rest his face against Jon’s hip, throwing an arm over his legs.
“Hey.”
“Did I keep you up?” Martin asked.
“No.”
“What time did you get in bed?”
“I don’t know exactly. Not that long after you. I’m just not that tired. Maybe I finally slept enough.”
“That makes one of us.” One night of sleep hadn’t done Martin as much good as he had hoped.
“I’m sorry.” With his eyes still closed, Martin felt Jon’s hand come to rest on his head, gently rubbing his scalp just above his ear.
“I’m going to have to cut my hair soon.”
“I like it,” Jon said, gently tugging at a few strands. “I mean, I like it shorter, too. I guess I just like your hair.”
“Flatterer.” Martin yawned, then pressed his face into Jon even harder for a moment before rolling back to his side of the bed. “Just so long as you know it’s not getting you out of those pills. Do you want to shower first?”
“Actually, I was thinking I might not go in today.”
“Really?” Martin sat up to look at Jon. “How are you feeling?”
“Better.” He picked at an invisible spot on the quilt. “It’s more that I’d just—I’d like some time to think. If you’re ok with it.”
“Yes, of course I’m ok with it. I’ve been trying to get you to take it easy ever since we got here. We can—” He stopped when he saw the look on Jon’s face and realized what he was actually asking. “Oh, you meant—just you. Yeah, no, of course that’s fine. That’s great.”
“Are you sure? I mean—if you want to stay too—”
“No,” Martin interrupted. “No, it’s really fine. It’s not a problem. I mean, I know I’ve been really irritating with the—”
“That’s not it,” Jon said reassuringly. “It’s really not. I’m—I’m glad you’ve been here for me. It’s just my mind’s been so cluttered, and it finally—I feel like I can gather my thoughts.”
Martin nodded. “I get it. I do.” He did, mostly. “Would it be ok if I called to check on you?”
Jon smiled. “I’m sure I’d worry if you didn’t.”
So Martin went in by himself. He told Tim and Sasha the truth, mostly; Jon had blacked out after therapy, of course, not in an abandoned house in Oxford where there existed a possible gap between dimensions and realities, but the part about going to A&E and Jon staying home to recover was straightforward enough.
“Glad something slowed him down,” Tim said, and Sasha gave him a look. “Well, something was bound to happen, and at least Martin was there. It could have been worse. He was pushing himself too hard.”
“You’re not wrong,” Martin agreed, and Sasha patted him soothingly on the shoulder.
He went in by himself the next day, too. Jon seemed to be doing well enough. They didn’t talk much; Martin was tired and Jon seemed lost in his thoughts. Martin wasn’t sure what Jon was doing most of the day, though it didn’t seem to be much of anything. He was eating—well, drinking the nutrition shakes Martin had picked up for him—and Martin suspected he was sleeping a little, based on how the bed looked when he came home. Jon managed to eat solid food at supper again that second night, and reached protectively for his half-empty plate when Martin assumed he was done.
“Sorry,” Martin said with his hands up in apology, leaning back into the couch. “Does that mean—maybe you’re feeling better?”
“I think so. Starting to.” Jon stretched out his feet to rest them on the bottom ledge of the coffee table. For an instant, Martin already missed the feeling of Jon falling asleep against him—but this was better, he knew. He pushed the mournfulness away.
He went in by himself again on Wednesday. A little after noon, Sasha joined him and Tim in the assistants’ office.
“Want to come to lunch?”
Martin assumed she was asking Tim, but when he didn’t hear an answer, he glanced up to find both of them looking at him.
“Oh—me?” Martin asked.
“Yes,” Tim replied, grabbing his jacket off the back of his chair. “Might be nice to take up some old habits again.”
Martin didn’t have to think for too long to figure out what Tim was referring to; memories from this world came easy now. Not long after his mother had died, they’d started going out for lunch together once a week. It had almost certainly been for his benefit, but no one had ever admitted that to him; instead, they’d all acted like it was a spontaneous idea that for some reason had never occurred to any of them before. Martin had been so grateful for the company that he’d simply accepted it without thinking about it too hard.
“We’ll miss Jon, of course,” Sasha added, “but he can come with us next week.”
“Oh, whatever,” Tim said, elbowing Martin good-naturedly as they left the office together. “This just makes up for those times Jon couldn’t wait and stole Martin out from under us.”
Martin remembered that, too; there had been a few times when, despite their best intentions, he’d been overwhelmed by the thought of lunch with the whole group. Jon had somehow understood and anticipated those days, and had come up with some reason he had to go early, asking Martin if he’d wanted to join. They hadn’t said much when it had been just the two of them, nothing important, but that had sort of been the point, hadn’t it? It was a nice memory, anyway, and Martin was glad he had it now. He wondered if Jon had remembered it yet.
***
Lunch was pleasant enough, if a little bit awkward. Martin hadn’t spent much time with Sasha, at least not compared to how much time he’d spent with Tim, and he could tell she was being careful with him. She was polite, keeping the conversation easy, deliberately avoiding topics that held anything other than surface interest. After he finished eating, he decided to ask her some things he’d been wondering about, and hoped she’d chalk up anything strange about it to him being a little thrown off from last week.
“Sasha,” he asked, setting his fork down, “do you—like being the head archivist?”
“What do you mean?” she asked, leaning toward him slightly over their table.
“Do you like it? Is it a good job? Is it—is it how you thought it would be?”
Sasha crossed her arms in thought. “Well, I’m not really sure how to answer that. I mean, the Magnus Institute has its issues, I suppose. It’s an academic joke, of course, but it’s not like the respect of my peers was ever that important to me.” She laughed at herself. “And some of our benefactors are… well, a bit full of themselves? But I suppose that’s true anywhere. I am quite happy with the job security, and it pays well enough for what it is. Plus I’m actually using my degree, which is more than I can say for most of my classmates.”
“Have you ever—wanted to leave?”
Sasha frowned slightly. “No—no, not really. Why?”
“No reason,” Martin said as casually as he could. He couldn’t exactly say just wondering if you’re trapped here. “Just been doing some thinking, I guess.”
“Well,” Sasha said, “I’ll admit the job’s felt a little bit different lately. Hard to say exactly how… I guess I’ve been struggling a bit with—well, I’m still not sure how to handle the—incidents, I suppose? It doesn’t make any sense, but it feels like I’m responsible for the people who come here to talk to us. Like I should be keeping track of their stories, somehow. I just don’t know what to do with them. Honestly, I’ve just started asking them to write everything down. I feel bad, but I just can’t listen to some of them. I’ll have nightmares.”
“Oh. They’re still coming in, then?”
“Sometimes. Not every day, but enough.”
“I—I didn’t know. Does Jon know?”
“He’s been there for a few, yes.”
Martin took a few sips of water. Jon hadn’t mentioned that specifically, but it probably wasn’t anything.
“What about—what about Elias? He doesn’t seem too fond of the Institute. Why does he stay?”
“You’ll have to ask Tim,” Sasha said, poking at what was left of her salad with her fork again. “They’re best friends.”
Tim laughed. “We are not best friends. However, I do think you should spend a little more time with him outside of work. You’re missing out.”
“I don’t think so.”
“Oh, come on.” Tim poked her arm playfully with the tines of his fork, and she batted him away. “He and Allan are a trip.”
“Exactly,” she replied.
“What I meant was, they’re funny. Especially Elias.” He turned to Martin. “Now the key to understanding him is to recognize that he has money—and also that he hates money, even though he has no idea how to function without it. And people with money, he especially hates. But at some point, I suppose, his father wore him down, and he has now accepted his position in life with as little grace and composure as he can.”
Martin thought back to what little he knew about Elias Bouchard, the actual Elias Bouchard, from his own world. “That… makes sense, actually.”
“And it makes him a pain in the ass when I need something,” Sasha added. “But on the positive side—he does leave me alone to do my job, for the most part.”
Martin remembered Allan’s name too; Martin remembered he had died after finding an old book. “So Allan is—his roommate?”
Tim raised his eyebrows. “That, Martin, is none of our business.”
“What?” Martin was genuinely confused before he realized what Tim was getting at.  “Oh—oh god, no, I didn’t—”
“However,” Tim interrupted him, “if you find out let me know, because I believe Sasha will owe me 10 quid on that day.”
“Doubtful,” Sasha said, grinning over the phone she was now scrolling through. “Very doubtful.”
Martin could feel his face turning red, so he was grateful for the distraction when Sasha leaned forward with her phone.
“Speaking of working at the Magnus Institute—look at this,” she said, attempting to angle the phone so both Martin and Tim could see at once. “I cannot get over how much she’s enjoying her retirement. I never thought she’d leave, but then it was like she was just up and done one day, and she never looked back.”
It took Martin a moment to understand what she was showing them, but it was a picture of Gertrude Robinson—a Facebook picture. He might not have known it was her, if it wasn’t for the name posted above it. The biggest difference was that in every picture he’d ever seen of her, she’d been wearing her hair in the same tightly-pulled grey bun; here, she was wearing her hair down, and it flowed softly past her shoulders. The next most obvious difference was he didn’t think he’d ever seen her smiling in a picture before, and she looked quite happy in this one, drink in hand, next to an equally-cheerful looking older man who had been holding up the phone to snap the photo. The caption read catching up with an old friend.
Sasha pointed at Martin to emphasize his surprised reaction. “See, that’s what I’m saying. I guess you just never know.”
“Who—who’s in the picture with her?” Martin asked.
“Oh right, I forget you never met him in person. That’s Jurgen Leitner.” She shook her head. “I didn’t think she was that fond of him, really. Must be another retirement thing.”
Jurgen Leitner—what was his connection to the Institute here? It’s not like he would have been living in the tunnels, there was just no—
The realization hit him like a ton of bricks. The Leitner Room. In this world, the Magnus Institute was home to every book Jurgen Leitner had ever collected. He had collected them, of course, only his library had never been destroyed because there was nothing to make that happen. When he’d decided to downsize in his later life—when he didn’t feel quite the same sense of pride in them—the archives had been the perfect home for his books. Of course, up until now, it meant nothing except a new collection and a nice endowment for the Institute.
What did it mean now?
“Are you ok?” Sasha asked. “You look—”
“You look like you just got run over,” Tim finished.
“Sorry.” Martin pulled his hand away from his mouth; he hadn’t even realized he had put it there. “I just—I just remembered something. It’s, um…”
“Do you need to get back?” Sasha asked after a moment of silence.
“Yeah,” Martin answered, apologizing with his voice. “Yeah, if you don’t mind. You can stay, if you want—”
“No, I’m done.” Tim took one more drink to empty his glass. “Sasha?”
She shrugged. “I’m ready.”
“Thanks,” Martin said. “I—there’s something I need to take care of for Jon.”
***
After they got back, Martin tried to look busy at his desk, hoping they’d think that he was taking care of whatever it was online. He took the opportunity to review the records in the system, and was comforted to note that nothing in the Leitner group currently had any special notations connected to it. All of the books were, at least in principle, on the shelves, and no one had requested access to any of them. He’d been hoping that was why his attention hadn’t been drawn to any of them previously, and it seemed like he’d lucked out. It was an obscure collection, and there were a lot of restrictions on them at Jurgen Leitner’s request; not just anyone could come in and browse them, and only a very specific set of research purposes qualified for special permission to remove them from the library.
He relaxed a little, and then waited for an opportunity to leave the office without attracting attention. He had to wait a while, but eventually Rosie came in with something for Sasha to review. A moment later Sasha called Tim in to her office, and Martin took the opportunity to leave. He just didn’t see a reason to risk drawing anyone else’s attention to the Leitners, especially since it seemed they were all but forgotten as they were.
He walked out past Rosie’s desk and back into the stacks; the room really was quite out of the way, buried deep in a corner of the shelving units. It wasn’t a large room, and if you weren’t looking for it, it would have been easy to miss. Even the sign above the door, emblazoned with the word Leitner, was barely distinguishable from the metal door frame behind it. The room was kept locked, but as an archival assistant Martin had a copy of the key. He held his breath and turned it.
Walking into the room was anticlimactic; it didn’t feel like much. There was no threatening aura; there was no sense of danger. It felt like nothing more than a small room full of musty old books, like many other small rooms of musty old books Martin had been in before.
He took a quick look at some of the titles on the shelves. At first glance, he didn’t see any he had heard of before, but of course he hadn’t heard of most Leitners. He continued to look, straining his eyes at words written on faded spines, occasionally pulling one gingerly off the shelves to check the front cover; he just needed something to prove to himself he wasn’t overreacting. Finally he found one he knew: a thick, black paperback labeled The Boneturner’s Tale. Martin felt a shiver run down his back as he involuntarily jerked his hand away from it.
He closed the door to the room, locking it behind him, and pulled out his phone. Thankfully, he had service, and he immediately dialed Jon’s number.
“I ate,” Jon said when he picked up.
“No,” Martin said. “Well, yes, I’m glad, but—”
“Martin, are you—what’s going on?”
“I—I don’t know how to tell you this. I’m…” Getting Jon to remember for himself was going to be much easier than explaining it.
“Are you ok?”
“Yes, I—well, all right. At lunch, Sasha showed us a picture of Gertrude Robinson. On Facebook.”
“Oh,” Jon sounded puzzled. “I knew she had retired, but I hadn’t thought to—”
“Well, that’s not it. She was with someone in the picture.”
“Who?”
Martin took a deep breath. “Jurgen Leitner.”
There was a prolonged silence before Jon spoke again. “Oh. God.”
“Yeah.”
“You’re there, aren’t you? Right now.”
“Yes. I’m—I’m not sure what I should do.”
“First, don’t touch anything.”
Martin didn’t respond.
“Ok—don’t touch anything else, then.”
“All right,” Martin said.
“Damn it. I should be there. I should be there with you.”
“No—no, it’s fine. I just—what should I do?”
“I don’t know.”
“Can I—ok, can I destroy them?”
“What do you mean?”
“Like—” Martin swallowed. “Ok, I’m sure this isn’t the best idea, but—what if a fire were to start in here? Or—something?”
“Do not,” Jon commanded. “Martin Blackwood, I have never been more serious in my life, do not do anything of the sort.”
“Ok, ok,” Martin said. “I said it probably wasn’t a great idea—"
“Some of those books would—let’s just say burning them would not have the desired effect. Or wetting them down, or chopping them up, or—”
“All right, all right. I get it. I mean—that’s not surprising, I guess. So what do I do?”
“Did you check the system? Are any checked out, or reserved, or—?”
“No,” Martin answered. “I mean, yes, I checked the system, and they’re all—they’re all here, in theory. No one’s asked for any of them.”
“Ok.” Martin heard the relief he’d felt earlier echoed in Jon’s voice. “That—that’s good.”
They sat in silence for a moment, before Jon spoke again.
“You’re—you’re not going to like this, but—I think you should go. For now.”
“And just leave them all here?”
“Yes. Believe me, I’m just as frustrated as you, but I don’t think there’s another option just yet. They’re relatively protected there, and hopefully they’ll continue to not draw attention.” He paused, and then added softly, “Right now, I just want you out of there.”
Martin sighed. “Right. Ok. Um… I guess… I can at least set up an alert so I get notified if anyone puts in a request?”
“That’s a good idea. And I’ll—I’ll keep thinking. Are you leaving yet?”
“Right after we get off the phone. Just in case. I don’t want to attract attention if someone else is down here.”
“All right. Message me when you’re back at your desk.”
“Sure.” Martin hung up, disappointed there wasn’t more to be done, but Jon was almost certainly right—it would be much too easy to do damage instead of prevent it, if he acted rashly.
Before he left though, he had one more thing he wanted to do.
***
That night, when Martin got home, he found Jon on the small balcony in back again; that was what he’d been hoping for. He grabbed the small metal trash bin out of the toilet in the hallway and stepped outside, closing the door behind him.
“Martin,” Jon said, stamping out a cigarette in the ash tray on the small table as he stood up. “You startled me. You’re a bit early—we can go in.”
“Sorry, didn’t mean to—I should have said something. Actually, I wanted to catch you out here. I brought you something.” He set the bin he’d brought out with him on the balcony, between the two of them.
“It’s a trash bin,” Jon observed.
“Well, that’s only part of it.” He picked up the lighter Jon had left on the table and handed it to him.
“If this is commentary on my smoking habit, I think the ash tray is big enough. Besides, I don’t plan to keep—”
“No—no, that’s not it. I don’t care about the smoking. Well, I don’t love it, but that’s really not it.” Martin sighed. “Look, I know you said not to touch anything in the Leitner Room, but—well, here.”
From behind his back, he brought out a small, square book; he could see Jon didn’t need to read the title to recognize it in the dim evening light.
“Martin,” he whispered. “I—”
“Don’t say anything. Don’t think, don’t open it. Just—take it. Burn it. This one should be fine. I can do it if you don’t want to.”
Jon reached a hand toward the book, running his fingers hesitantly over the scribbled black spider webs illustrating the otherwise plain white cover. He spoke as if he were in a dream. “Yes. I imagine this one would be ok.”
“Light it,” Martin encouraged him, reaching for the hand that held the lighter to pull it closer. “Now.”
It seemed too easy; he was afraid it wouldn’t catch, or that Jon would change his mind, or any number of other things would go wrong—but nothing did. The cardboard cover caught beautifully, the yellow-orange flame spreading elegantly out from the corner in less than a minute, swallowing the book front and back.
“Now let go,” Martin said, as the flame began to spread, and Jon nodded. They dropped it together into the trash bin, and Martin watched as the title words A Guest for Mr. Spider were consumed, slowly, letter by letter. They watched together, transfixed, until the fire burned itself out and all that was left was a smoking pile of ash.
“You shouldn’t have done that for me,” Jon said quietly. “Going through the shelves—taking it out—it could have been dangerous.”
“Yeah, well, you said the web was probably still weak, and—” Martin reached for Jon’s arm. “Anyway, it’s done now.”
“Thank you,” Jon stepped carefully around the trash bin, and then his arms were around Martin’s waist and his face was in his chest. “Thank you.”

Christmas Exchange with Nhylluan
As part of an excchange with @nhylluan for Christmas I wrote a scene about her OC Sherwin! This was a lot of fun to write, and I really appreciate Nhylluan’s trust of me with her character. Enjoy!
She had five minutes to get to the other side of the galaxy before she was caught.
Alarms blared throughout the complex, foolishly diverting attention away from the hangar. It had emptied in under a minute, leaving only the sole ship in what was little more than a run-down garage in the middle of Coruscant’s slums. The gang in question wasn’t the largest, nor were they the best equipped on Coruscant, nor were they all that particularly bright. They were just a small group of idiots who occasionally sought employment from the Hutts, the latter of whom would then forget the former minutes after parting ways. In short, they made for the perfect target for Sherwin. If she could get away, she would get away without repercussion.
She would be lying to herself if Sherwin claimed that this was a long-thought out plan, studied to perfection. It was, however, the execution of a dream she’d held for as long as she could remember, hastened along by loose information on the drunken lips of a beautiful woman, one who’d fallen out of favor with the gang in time not long passed. These factors combined for a moment that she couldn’t let pass. Her prize: a small freighter, its kind possessing considerable speed despite its designation. Smugglers over many generations had employed such designs in their adventures, and Sherwin couldn’t think of a better model to take her off this planet, away from this mess, away from the sewers, away from everything.
The trick had been a simple one. The gang - primarily dealing in rigged swoop races - left their bikes in a garage on the opposite side of their hideout on the first floor, while the hangar possessing the ship was down in a third floor basement with direct access to what limited open sky Coruscant offered. She’d set a small incendiary bomb, timed to give her enough leeway to make it to the hangar bay, in that garage. The fires likely wouldn’t be enough to destroy the bikes outright, but would send all available hands into a panic trying to save their most lucrative assets from burning up. It was a nuisance, and a nuisance was all she needed.
Now in a full sprint, Sherwin approached the freighter and scrambled up its side, kicking off a nearby workbench for leverage. Her legs flailed out to the side before she righted herself, and then heaved her way up the side of the ship. About halfway down its length she found the hatch leading inside, mercifully unlocked. Sherwin threw it open and leapt down, landing on unkempt flooring with a thud.
“Who’s there?” a voice called from somewhere in the ship.
“Kriff,” Sherwin muttered, drawing her blaster. They should’ve all left to check on the alarm. She hadn’t accounted for stragglers on the ship. Yet, as she was used to saying by this point, that’s just where she was now. Though alarmed, the straggler wasn’t really expecting to find anyone, so when the burly man turned the corner he instead found a blaster bolt right to the gut. Sherwin sighed, twirled her blaster, and holstered it at her side.
Sherwin folded her arms. Well...now this was an entirely new problem. A minor one, all things considered, but unpleasant. Having a body aboard her ship would likely begin stinking after enough time in space, and trying to take care of it after landing somewhere would have docking authorities all over her ass. Time right now, however, was of the essence.
After heading to the cockpit and lowering the loading ramp, Sherwin hoisted the man by under the armpits and began dragging him towards the back of the ship. She grumbled and grunted in a less-than-dignified manner as she pulled, the man surprisingly heavy. Some good his muscles did him. Now they were just dead weight...literally. With a huff she set him down just at the edge of the ramp and shoved him along with her foot. Gravity did the rest as she raced back to the front of the ship.
Taking her seat, Sherwin could see various buildings along Coruscant’s skyline just beyond the shimmering violet-blue magnetic field stabilizing the hangar bay. Above it, the curve of Coruscant’s horizon. It was close, so close. She flicked the ignition switch on the main board, followed by the lift repulsors. Steadily the ship lifted into the air. Beneath her feet the engine made a gentle whirring sound, vastly different from the clunky grinding she was used to hearing from similar machines. As she gave the ship thrust, the sound only increased in pitch, but still did not become shrill. It was as though someone were whistling.
Whistler, Sherwin thought, that’ll make a kriffing fine name.
Then she was in the sky, airborne and free. Traffic sped by underneath her, becoming smaller as she increased elevation. Sherwin let out a relieved whoop as the blue skies turned black as she pierced past Coruscant’s atmosphere, the dark blanket becoming littered with stars, greater in number than any she’d seen before in her life. It was breathtaking.
She stopped for a moment. Everything she’d ever known was now thousands of miles away. The only things of her old life were the clothes on her back, the blaster at her side, and the bottle cap charm in her pocket. There hadn’t been time to make preparations or plans or goodbyes. A pit welled in her stomach. Mr. Cat was still down there, her dear friend, now alone in the sewers. Sherwin inhaled sharply as the pit became more pronounced. Surely he’d be okay, right? He was a smart loth-cat, and he wouldn’t miss her much, and...and he’d forget all about her soon enough. She nodded to herself, as though that would be enough, but the pain only felt deeper now.
Sherwin placed the bottle cap charm on the main panel and then buried her face in her hands. In this rush she just hadn’t thought...she didn’t even know where to go now. Was any of this smart? Had she even thought it through well enough?
Before she could reconcile any of these thoughts, a clunk from somewhere in the back of the ship drew her attention. Sherwin drew her blaster again, steadily making her way back to the source of the noise. If someone was on the ship, they’d done a fantastic job of remaining stealthy and waiting until they were in the reaches of space before trying to stop her. You know, instead of the ample time they would’ve had while she lugged a body across the length of the freighter.
Confusion dogged her more than anything. It didn’t seem likely that any sentient creature remained aboard. Sherwin turned into the kitchen, blaster raised, then froze, letting the blaster drop as elation took over. There, on the countertop, sat a loth-cat - her loth-cat - eating from the open bowl of someone’s lunch. At her approach her friend glanced up, his large ears perking up from his oversized head as food dripped from his oversized mouth. “Mr. Cat!” Sherwin exclaimed, running up and scooping up her companion in both arms. Mr. Cat let out a small trill that seemed as though a mix of haughty annoyance and barely restrained happiness, then began purring as Sherwin held him close to her chest. “Did you follow me all the way here buddy?”
Mr. Cat looked up with her with his black beady eyes as if to say “Why of course I did my silly human. How could you go anywhere without me?”
Reeling from joy and disbelief, Sherwin spun as she smothered her friend in love and hugs, carrying him back to the front of the ship. She set him down in the copilot’s seat, which he then promptly curled up on. Sherwin looked ahead to the stars before her. Somewhere, in all that vastness, her brother waited for her, and the Hutts had him. And whether anyone knew it or not, she would rescue him. Sherwin grinned, casting one last look to Mr. Cat before switching on the hyperdrive. “Next stop: Nar Shaddaa.”

Dancing lessons
Tumblr media
Hi!! I'm sorry, this one took forever, I had a Dengue Virus outbreak to deal with for the last three weeks and I even had the damn thing myself, not funny, wouldn't recommend it, it felt like shit and I had to skip work two days, thankfully no mortal victims, at least not on my watch, but the town is still recovering, anyway work is crazy and that's why I haven't update anything, I'm really sorry
Summary: Barry is finally cast in a feature, the problem? He said he could dance and now he can either disappoint Sally or found a way to learn some steps.
Part 1 ● Part 2 ● Part 3 ● Part 4 ● Part 5 ● Part 6 ● Part 7 ● Part 8 ● Epilogue
Warnings: Swearing, blood, violence, guns, cheating maybe.
Part 4
The lights on your studio were still on when you entered, and the dry blood on the floor made a horrible sight that almost made you faint again, thankfully a strong arm was holding you since you get out of the car, and he was looking at the floor too.
"I can clean that if you want" He said helping you sit down on a chair. "I'm not sure if you should climb your stairs yet"
"Thanks, that would be great. I would say leave it but I have class early tomorrow and is not a nice view for a bunch of 4 year olds" you said thinking about the wooden floor and how much damage the blood would cause, and Barry walk inside the storage closet looking for a mop.
"Then I will leave it there, you are insane if you think you are going to give any class tomorrow" He came back with the cleaning supplies and gave you a judging look, lacking any authority since he was holding a bottle of detergent in on hand and a bucket in the other.
"Fine mom, I'll cancel" you held your hands high in surrender "Actually I can use a day off, I have this terrible student in the afternoon, he is a pain in the ass" You said and he rolled his eyes at you while rolling up his sleeves and starting to clean the floor.
An hour later the floor was spotless, he had an odd talent cleaning up blood, and made a funny shocked face when you pointed it out, the clock announce it was merely 8:00 pm and you had to remain awake until 6:00 am at least.
"I feel well enough to go upstairs, you can leave now" you told him hoping he would listen since his presence made you feel uneasy at times.
"No way, the doctor gave me a list of things to check up every couple hours, and if I leave you would fall asleep, but let's go get you upstairs, you will be more comfortable on your couch" He said approaching with the clear intention of carrying you on his arms.
"I can walk, that won't be necessary" You said quickly, ignoring the idea of how wonderful would it be to be held in those arms.
Maybe that was the reason you had end up screaming in the first place, an elaborate defense mechanism your brain set up in motion to ignore the growing feelings you had every time he enter the studio, every time you held his hand and forced down your waist while you were dancing, and the longing in your skin asking for more.
Of course there was handsome men in your class every now and then, grooms, fathers of the bride, actors, etc. and you had always conduct yourself professionally regardless the clear intentions some of them may have. And you have always respected your marriage with Alan even in the worst of times. But Barry was different, there was just something about the way he looked at you that make you want to scream and run away because it terrifies you how easily you could fall for him.
"Are you feeling nauseous?" He asked once you were sitting on the couch, and you nodded no "Tired? Clouded vision? Having incoherent thoughts?" He continued reading the list the doctor gave him.
"I believe I'm a big green marshmallow queen of the north pole, but that's normal right?" You say dead serious and he hide a grin behind the white sheet of paper.
"Very funny, we should call the doctor and share the joke with her" he said seriously.
"Fine, I'm sorry. I have a minor pain in my head, but I can see and hear perfectly clear, I remember everything that had happened clearly and I don't feel like vomiting" you said and he put the list away satisfied with your answers. "I'm sorry I'm being an imposition to you, I'm sure you had plans" You continued and he opened his mouth to reply he was staying once again so you keep talking before he did "And since you are staying here at least let me fix you something to eat, is late and I don't think you have eaten". You stood up and he followed you to the kitchen.
"You really don't have to, I can make a sandwich if you tell me where things are, or we could order something, I don't think you should be near sharp objects" He plead alarmed when you took out a large knife from a drawer.
"Fine, but I'm paying, and once again I can assure you this is nothing I have had worst" you said putting down the cutting board and opening the fridge to offer him a beer "once I broke my leg in 3 pieces" you said confidently showing him a long thin scar on the side of your leg and suddenly feeling exposed since you haven't change from your dancing clothes, and you didn't feel the same confidence wearing them outside the studio.
"I've been shoot, a lot" he said lifting part of his shirt showing you a couple scars, not helping the situation in your mind.
"Ok war hero, you win, can you please order the food, I am going to change, feel yourself at home" You said patting his hand urging him to cover and hurrying to your room away from him.
***
Y/N took forever to come out and when she finally did she was wearing a comfortable pajama, and was drying her hair with a towel.
"You took a shower?" Barry asked upset "You could have fallen"
"But thankfully I didn't, I have to I was covered in blood and I need to find a way to cover this" She pointed at the place the doctor have shaved her hair and she tried to hide it with a lock of hair.
"I'm sure the parents would understand you had an accident" he said confused by her despair.
"Yeah, they will mostly, but Alan would make a big deal out of it and I'm sure he will use it as an excuse to keep pushing me into selling the studio" She said letting her hair alone and crawling onto the couch.
"Why would he do that?" He asked trying to be interested and ignoring the pinch of jealousy he felt once again when she mentioned his name "I mean you do charge a lot but you have many clients"
"Is not about the business, he just thinks I should sale the studio to Macy since she knows how to run it, and move with him to Dallas or Colorado or whenever his company wants him, that way he would be home every night to see our children" She said exasperated at the idea.
"Children?" He asked a bit shocked since she never had mentioned any children before.
"The hypothetical children we will have in case I actually leave this place behind" She said with a sad look on her face.
"So you don't want to have children?" He asked now genuinely interested. "I mean it's okay if you don't" he said quickly.
"Honestly?" She asked and he nodded "I really don't know, I mean when I was 22 and dancing in Moscow I have this crazy fantasy that I would retire in glory from ballet at 32 and meet a wonderful man and have a girl and she would be a great dancer by the age of 4." She had a sad smile on her face as if she could see herself in the moment she was describing.
"Moscow? As in Russia?" He asked.
"Yep, I was about to become a Prima Ballerina, then I broke my leg and every money I had went to surgery and recovery and suddenly I was no longer fitting to play Odette, or any major role and eventually like three years after I have to come back, I worked in Broadway for a while, that's when I met Alan"
"Sounds romantic" he said sarcastically making her laugh
"It was, at least at first, but then I had another lesion in my ankle so I was no longer able to work there either, and he was nice and sweet and he was with me, so we got married and end up here, five years later dealing with moms that feel their children would be next Maria Kowroski"
Barry's phone start ringing and he went downstairs to pick up the food, when he came back she was holding a big photo album in her lap.
"I haven't seen one of those in forever" He said entering the apartment holding the bag with Chinese food. "I thought everyone had digital albums these days"
"They do, but you can't do this to digital pictures" She said showing him burned hole in one of the photos. "Kids these days, what would they burn when they break up with a boyfriend? Anyway I'm starving" she pointed to the kitchen so they could eat.
They share an animated meal talking about how life and technology was passing by them, maybe a little lost resentful than usually since they both have the same opinions on the matter.
"Did you told him?" He asked after a while, he was leaning back in his chair looking at her finishing some noodles. "About not wanting kids I mean"
"Of course I did, since we were dating, but he had this idea that he would make me change my mind, and I was sure I would make him change his. Now we have civil dinners when he is home and pretend we are not angry at the way this marriage turned out, just waiting for one of us to give up and accept the other terms" She said and her bluntness took him by surprise again.
"I'm sorry" he said with a sad frown on his face "Earlier when I said this was your dream job and that your situation is perfect, I have no idea and I'm sorry"
"Don't be, I shouldn't have to try and prove you wrong forcing myself to do the Odile's Coda, since I'm clearly not in shape to do it" She smile at him and pointed the injury in her head.
"Well that only make it worse, why would you need to prove anything to me? I'm really sorry"
"Relax, you already making up for it being here, and is only 10:00 pm, do you want to play a board game? I would say we watch a movie but I would fall asleep quicker that way" She said and he agreed.
They played scrabble, bringing out some dark competitive instincts on both of them, only interrupted when Barry took a couple trips to the bathroom to call Sally who was not upset at all that he had canceled their dinner since she had this amazing party to go to.
By 3:00 am and feeling extremely tired and looking at her about to give up he call the hospital, the doctor kindly told him she was clear to sleep, news he took gratefully, but before he could tell her she was already curled in the couch, he sit next to her and let her rest her head on his chest, maybe when they woke up he could feel guilt and remorse about it, maybe he would have to stay away from her since he was obviously interested in her but at that moment he was very comfortable and lost in the smell of her hair to care about anything else.

Y/N was sweaty beyond belief. It wasn’t just the fact that a sudden heat wave had decided to wash over New York. It wasn’t the fact that Tony and Bruce had blown out the AC while doing an experiment. It was because Steve seemed to be in his sadistic mood. Or so he was in Y/N’s mind.    Three hours they had trained in the gym and then he had decided that they needed to go for a run. Outside. In the park. Under the scorching sun. Throwing daggers in his direction while sipping on her water bottle, Y/N thought of the tens of thousands of ways she could murder him. And turning the body into dust wouldn’t be that big of a problem. When you’re a pyrokinetic and can produce fire as hot as the star the Earth revolved around... Let’s just say she was having fun imagining him in pain.    “I hate you,” Y/N grumbled for the millionth time while walking towards the common area.    “What did Steve do again?” Bucky’s voice invaded her senses. Once the super soldier had officially joined the Avengers, the two quickly bonded. They both loved science and space and spent countless hours staring at the night sky. Well, the simulation that Tony had set up on one of the floors, as New York’s bright lights didn’t allow any to real ones to sparkle through.    “He hates me so wanted to see me suffer.”    “Nawh, doll. Steve doesn’t hate you.”    “Tell that to the ten miles I just had to run. Through New York. In the heat.”    “He gets intense, that’s all. You know he means well.”    Bucky slung his metal arm around the girl's shoulders and Y/N instantly groaned in pleasure, clinging to the prosthetic. Somehow even through it all, the vibranium didn’t get any hotter, so Bucky had become his fellow Avenger's personal walking cooler.    “Yeah, well, I’ll mean well when I set him on fire.”    The ex-assassin chuckled and kissed Y/N’s temple as they made their way into the common room. The girl went to the fridge and opened up her water bottle, dropping at least a dozen ice cubes inside and put the now cold water to the nape of her neck.
“How far is Tony with the AC fixing?”    “I don’t think he’s that far,” Bucky replied sounding quite distracted. “Looks like he has far more pressing issues right now.”    “What is more pressing than not dying of a heat stroke?”    As Y/N turned around she started to hear people talking. Loudly. And no party sounded happy.    “What’s going on?” She made her way to stand next to Bucky as he observed what looked like to be Tony and Steve facing two larger figures. One was raven-haired and adorned a green, black and gold outfit while the other had sandy blond hair in a buzz cut and an eyepatch.    “Who’re they?”    “If I had to guess, the one Tony is scolding like a child is Thor and the one Steve looks like he wants to kill with just a glance is Loki. They’re from Asgard. I think the dark haired one tried to take over the world at some point.”    “Wow,” Y/N took a sip of her water, “what don’t you miss when you’re not on Earth for like a decade.”    “Or when you’re brainwashed by HYDRA.”    “True dat,” and the pair fist bumped.    Y/N was the only other person in the compound Bucky felt close enough to tell everything. All the little details and what was pressing on his heart, so he was more than comfortable joking about things like his time as the Winter Soldier. And seeing as she hadn’t been on Earth for almost a decade and had quite the amount of culture, music and other things to catch up on, they had bonded, forming a tight relationship and helping one another with adapting to the new society.    “Fine!” Tony exclaimed. “But he’s not to be without supervision. At any point in time.”    “Man of Iron, my brother has changed. He only tried to kill me twice today.”    “Is that supposed to make me feel any better, Point Break? He tried to take over New York. So if even one strand on that head of his goes out of line, I will personally punch him back to space.”    The one who Tony had referred to as ‘Point Break’ shrugged and nodded. “Seems fair,” and the raven-haired man rolled his eyes.    Steve was still shooting daggers at the man when going to sit by the kitchen island, while Tony stomped away in annoyance.    “Hey, kid,” he greeted and hugged Y/N.    “Hey, dad,” she affectionately replied. Even though there was no blood relation between the two, the genius had immediately taken a liking to the girl and treated her as if she was his own. So Y/N just went along with it. Down the line, they formed a truly special relationship where she looked at Tony as a father figure.    “You stink and need to take a shower.”    “And you need to fix the AC, otherwise I’m gonna blame my death on you. And Steve, of course.”    Stark chuckled and put his hands in his pockets. “I still don’t get how you can hate heat when you can actually control fire.”    “Beats me,” Y/N shrugged and took a sip of her water. She could feel a pair of eyes intently watching her and after scanning the room it turned out to be Loki’s. The green bore into her Y/E/C and it was as if he was sizing her up, judging and observing.    “Don’t get too close to that one. He’s nothing but trouble.” With a kiss to her forehead, Tony went away and back to his lab, leaving Bucky, Y/N and Steve with the two Asgardians.    “I do not believe we have properly met.” It was Point Break who approached Y/N and Bucky first. “My name is Thor, Son of Odin. God of Thunder. Prince of Asgard.”    “Okay,” she handed him his palm expecting a handshake, but instead he kissed the top of it as if in a movie set in the middle ages. “I’m Y/N, but some refer to me as Firebird.”    “Ah, so you are like the Man of Hawk.”    “You mean Hawkeye? No, I don’t use arrows. I control actual fire. Like the element.”    “Impressive. Well, we should have a match against one another. To see which one is more powerful.”    “I guess…?” Y/N’s eyebrows shot up in amusement and question as she side eyed Bucky who was masking a chuckle with a cough. Thor’s attention turned to the super soldier and he introduced himself once more.    The girl’s attention was taken back to the raven haired man. He was a good head taller than her and had a gaze so piercing she was afraid he could burn a hole through her skull.    “I’m Loki.” The voice was deep and smooth. She could imagine having endless conversations with him with hot teas in their hands and books laying in their laps.    “Y/N,” he clasped her hand. It was surprisingly cold, but not unwelcome. A bit rough, but not completely callused. “And what are you the god of?”    He smiled, a glint appearing in his eyes. “Well, here you refer to me as the God of Mischief and Lies.”    “So that means if I want to go to the cinema and get the children’s discount you would be able to talk them into it?”    “Y/N,” it was Steve’s warning tone.    “Oh come on! You won’t allow me to say that you are actually a hundred years old and get the seniors one. The tickets are fucking expensive!”    “Language!”    The girl showed him his tongue and reverted her gaze back to Loki. “I assume you’re a prince as well.”    “You assume correctly. Though we are adopted,” he looked at Thor who was now in deep conversation with Bucky and walking towards the other brooding super soldier sitting by the counter “I am still considered a royal. And if I am not mistaken you are one of the most feared warriors in all of the nine realms.”    “Can’t say much about the nine realms, but I know at least three of them know my name. Well, my pseudonym, I guess.”    “The bird of flame, who incinerates the sky and leaves nothing but the ash of her enemies behind.”    “Yeah… something like that.”    “Well, I shall make sure not to get on the wrong side of you then.”    Y/N looked him up and down. Menacing, yes, you could clearly see that spark, the want to disobey authority, but Steve and Tony were making it seem like he was completely irredeemable. To her, the man standing in front didn’t seem like someone who would wish to destroy a city inhabited by millions of people. This man looked like he wanted redemption and just a chance to live life like a normal being.    “So,” Y/N went to sit down onto the couch and flipped on the TV while simultaneously pulling off the sweat soaked T-Shirt she had stolen from Bucky, “why do you know who I am and Thor doesn’t? If I’m so infamous I would expect him to recognise the name as well.”    “My brother is an oaf,” Loki chuckled and with a glimmer of green his own clothes changed to something more appropriate for Earth and its insanely hot weather. “And I like to pay attention to things I find magnificent.”    Y/N quirked an eyebrow. “Aren’t you a smooth one.”     “Just stating the facts.”    She snorted right as two hands clamped down on her shoulders startling the girl.    “Fucking hell, Bucky! You know I hate it when you go into stealth mode.”    “Sorry, doll. Didn’t mean to scare you. Steve and I are gonna go down and spar for a bit. Thor is apparently coming with.”    “Ohh,” Y/N put on her best puppy dog eye look, “please kick Cap’s ass for me. Like, go really hard on him. I’d do it myself, but that would mean putting in actual effort to communicate with the guy and right now I’m pissed for what he made me do.”    “Anything for you, love,” Bucky kissed the top of Y/N’s head. “You sure you’re gonna be fine with him alone?” he muttered so that only she could hear, but by the look he was giving Loki, who only smirked and looked at his clasped hands, everyone knew what he was asking.    “I’m a big girl. I can take care of myself.”    “Just… don’t get into too much trouble. Please. For me.”    “Sarge, where would be the fun in life if I didn’t?”    “You wouldn’t have spent three months in the hospital wing.”    “Hey! That was a low blow!” but she was shouting into thin air, as Bucky had already left the room, his bellowing laughter the only answer she got.    “You were hurt?” Y/N looked over at Loki, whose eyebrows had creased and she could detect actual worry in them.    “Even people with superpowers are not invincible,” a sad smile crossed the girl’s face as the memories of pure and utter pain, of the three months, she was more dead than alive, flooded her mind. “And I guess that would be my warning to you as well."    “Warning?”    “We’ll probably be sharing a floor and I have very bad nightmares. Night terrors would be more appropriate. So if you hear screaming, don’t be alarmed. No one is trying to kill me. At least not yet.”    With that Y/N retreated leaving Loki to his own devices. The Trickster couldn’t help but feel a pull towards the girl, he couldn’t help but want to figure out every little piece to the puzzle that she was. So he set it as his mission while he was staying on Earth. The Avengers might still see him as the person who tried to take over a city while under the influence of the Tesseract, but she didn’t seem to care. And to have at least one friend in the universe would be enough for Loki.
***
The Norse god and Y/N started to grow closer and closer. He felt like someone could finally see the true him and accept every flaw and crack without judgement. Slowly but surely Loki found himself falling for her. A mortal, a Midgardian, but the feelings were undoubtedly there.    She had confided in him after several of her nightmares had woken Loki up. He was there, by her side, calming her racing heart and wiping the tears away. It made him furious about whatever incident or whoever had instilled such fear that at night she could not get proper sleep. Y/N didn’t tell what exactly had happened to produce such terrors, but, even though Loki wanted to dig until there was nothing more to find, he just allowed the girl to find peace within his presence. Such an uncharacteristic thing of how people felt around him.    “You’re the ice to my fire,” she had said one night as her arms had a death grip on his waist. “I don’t know how you do it or what you do, but in the moments when I feel like I am about to explode, you just… pull me off of the ledge.”    “Lokiiiiii!” he was brought back to the present as the girl plopped herself down and into his lap. “Whatcha reading?”    “A book.” He closed the piece of literature and placed it down. Usually, he was fine with courting women, but around Y/N, Loki’s heart would beat a mile a minute.    “So here’s the deal- Bucky has to go on a stupid mission and he’s leaving me alone, even though he promised he’d go with me, but alas, the world is always getting itself in trouble. That is why I wanted to ask you if you want to go with me to this book expo. And you’ve been cooped up in this place for almost three months now.”    “I have been put under house arrest by Stark and Captain Rogers. You know that, Princess.”    “Well as your self-appointed best friend, I lift the arrest for at least one day,” the girl ‘knighted’ him with the side of her palm. “Besides, you’ve been good, not getting in trouble. Or like nothing major.”    Loki’s heart was about to leap out of his mouth. She was looking at him with such a soft gaze, the Y/E/C orbs holding so much love and care. He knew that there was no world he could possibly deserve her.    “Please,” she jutted out her bottom lip and Loki wanted nothing more than kiss her, “pretty please?”    He huffed in mock annoyance and hugged her waist. “How can I say no to that face?”    “Yes!” she jumped up in triumph. “Be ready in twenty minutes.” Y/N dashed out and Loki was about to follow when suddenly a loud crash came from the hallway.    “I’m fine, I’m okay! Go get ready!”    “You’ll be the death of me, woman,” but there was no malice to the words, rather pure and unadulterated love.    Sure enough in twenty minutes time, a very excited Y/N was waiting for the god by the elevator.    “Come on, you snail! All the good ones are gonna be gone if you keep moving so slowly!”    Right as the ding went off and the door opened, the Avenger walked straight into a muscular chest.    “Shit, sorry, Steve.”    “It’s okay,” strong hands gripped onto Y/N as to not let her fall, but all his attention went to the person standing behind her. “And where do you think you’re going?”    “To what is called a book expo with Y/N here. As she has informed me mister Barnes and you are going on a mission, so I’ve come to the rescue and shall be accompanying her.”    “No, you’re not.”    “Steve,” Y/N scolded him, “come on! He’s been good, he hasn’t stepped out of line once.”    The super soldier’s gaze instantly softened when looking at the young woman. She had become like a sister to him, the need to keep her safe and taken care of having become a prominent part of his life now. “I’m afraid that also involves you. We need all hands on deck for this one.”    Y/N groaned in annoyance. “Seriously? I’ve been waiting months for this!”    “Sorry, pumpkin. But it’s bigger than anticipated. And as much as I hate this, we need your help as well, Loki.”    That took the Trickster by surprise. “Mine?”    “Yes, yours. So go and get suited up.”    Loki looked at Y/N whose mood had suddenly changed completely. It was like a dark cloud had settled over the usually happy girl.    “Princ-“ he started, but she cut him off mid-sentence.    “Loki, can I talk to Steve alone? I’ll meet you on the jet.”    He didn’t want to leave, he wanted to know what had suddenly made her go so rigid, but respecting Y/N’s wishes he made the battle armour appear and went to the jet.    “Steve, I’m not ready to go out in the field. Not after that. I know it’s been a while, but I can’t.”    Y/N was on the verge of a panic attack and Cap could clearly see that. “Doll, you’ll be fine. You may not think you aren't well enough to go into the field, but I know you are. And you’ll be right by me, by Bucky’s and Nat’s sides every second of it. I wouldn’t ask you this if it wasn’t necessary.”        “You promise?” she squeezed his palms so tightly he could feel the fire burning through her veins and heat up his own skin. “You promise you’ll be there? Next to me?”    “Every step of the way.”    Her insides were trembling. Y/N wasn’t ready, but the Avengers needed her, so gathering all the nonexistent courage, she went to her room and quickly changed into the fireproof tactical gear specifically designed by Tony and Shuri.    With wobbling legs, she stepped into the hangar and onto the jet which immediately disappeared between the clouds.    Loki was already standing up to ask if she was alright, but it was like he didn’t exist like he was a wall. Y/N walked straight past him and sat down next to Bucky, gripping onto his metal arm.    Jealousy shot through the man. Of course, there would be more going on between the two of them. How could he have been so blind? She was just trying to be nice, to make him feel welcome.    The honorary Avenger scoffed at how he had allowed himself to develop feelings for a simple mortal woman, but as much as he tried to turn his mind to hate, Y/N he couldn’t. Saddened eyes glanced at the girl who had her head on the Winter Soldier’s shoulder.    But what Loki didn’t see was glazed over Y/E/C orbs that were trained on one spot. He didn’t see the white-knuckled grip Y/N had on Bucky’s palm. He didn’t see the shaky lip as she relived the last mission that had almost cost her her life. Loki didn’t hear the reassuring whispers from Bucky as he tried to calm Y/N down. He didn’t hear him try and change her state of mind so that she could focus on the mission and protecting herself. He kept reminding his best friend that he would be right there with her, as would Natasha and Steve. He kept reminding how strong and irreplaceable she was to the team. Which all of it was true, but even Bucky had to admit Y/N wasn’t ready and the glare he threw to where Steve was standing and arguing with Tony about something was enough to express every word racing through his mind.
***
They arrived way too quickly for Y/N’s liking, but then again, if things had gone the way Y/N had wanted them to, she would be at a book expo with Loki.    “Y/N you’re with me, Nat and Bucky. Tony, Sam I need you high in the sky wiping out the perimeter. Thor, Wanda, Vision you take up the east side, Pietro and Loki, take the west. Rhodey and Clint have the north and the Hulk will be taking care of the south. Everyone got it?”    A chorus of ‘roger that’, ‘yep’ and ‘whatever’ rang through the jet before people piled out and immediately joined in the fight.    “It’s gonna be easy. In and out. You just gotta melt the door. We all will have your back,” Nat put a reassuring palm on Y/N’s shoulder.    “Burn bright, little star,” the redhead said and with that, she rushed out to start and clear the path to the HYDRA base. It was an act for Y/N. All of it. The bravado, the carefree attitude, the person she used to be before her last mission- it was now a completely different version compared to the broken shell of who she had become. But for the others, for the Avengers, for her little dysfunctional family, she would become whoever they needed her to be. For Loki who she had fallen for. Even when her feet stumbled and she almost tripped, when deadly fear gripped her throat so tight she couldn’t breathe, she would do it.    The battle was bloody. No matter how many agents she turned into ash and no matter the number of bullets turned into pure liquid as she made walls of fire appear out of thin air and wove into scorching snakes, Y/N could see only red. And on the inside, an old wound had started to hurt.    It took them a good couple of minutes before they could even get to the entrance of the base. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see Loki throwing daggers and using his ice powers to herd off the enemy. She should’ve told him that she had developed a tiny, ginormous crush on the god, but now was not the time to think about that.    “Do your thing, Firebird,” Bucky cheekily smiled and returned to shooting with the rifle, as Steve protected their backs with his shield.    With one last glance at the trickster who had stolen her heart, Y/N turned her full attention to the metal door and placed a palm against it. For a few seconds nothing happened, but then, bit by bit the steel started to glow red and then turned white as it slid down and burned the grass creating a pool of burning silver.    “You’re doing great, doll. We’re almost done,” Bucky covered Y/N’s back with his frame, deflecting bullets with the vibranium palm. “Deep breaths.”    And so she took one, unleashing the fire of a thousand suns. The team themselves barely got out of the way before windows exploded from the blazing flames and bones were charred until even the lightest breeze took them to the sky.    Nat stood up from her crouched down position and kissed Y/N’s cheek. “I love you more and more with every second that I know you.”    The younger girl chuckled, but they had no time to savour the moment so the four set off in a sprint before the base got invaded once more.    Arriving by the correct door took them pretty much no time at all and Y/N once again placed a palm against the cool metal which started to heat up. But something was off, something didn’t feel right. Yet it was already too late. The second the door slid to their waist level a click could be heard and Y/N was thrown back against the wall.    She didn’t slide down, didn’t crumple to her knees, instead her eyes were wide while they beheld the large arrow that had gone through her side and impaled her to the wall.    “Buck?”    Y/N didn’t hear the yells of her teammates who were asking what the hell was going on. Instead, her body disintegrated the bolt and she sagged down to the floor.    “No, no, no, no, no, why did you do that? You know you never remove a knife from a wound. It’s what keeps you from bleeding out. Stark!” The ex-Winter Soldier called out as Cap stood frozen and Nat couldn’t tear her gaze away from the scarlet stream slipping out of Y/N’s body.    “Stark! We need immediate help! Y/N was shot!”    An eerie silence filled the comms, before a quiet ‘what?’ responded.    It sounded like Loki to her. Her Loki. Her friend. The person she loved most. But it could’ve been anyone else in the team, for every sound was muffled, her vision was already going hazy and she could only think of her last mission where the girl was bleeding out on the floor, just like now. Where the fiery magic that flowed through her veins was trying to patch her body up, but couldn’t the bullet that had penetrated her body had been laced with some sort of a resistant, and clearly the arrow had been coated with the same substance, turning her world into nothing but pain.    Y/N’s eyes started to drip closed. Maybe it could be over, maybe she wouldn’t have to trail through the recovery process and she could just peacefully leave. Without regrets. Well one, but then again, what would a god want to do with a mortal.    “Stay with me, Princess. Don’t you dare close your eyes.”    Princess. That is what Loki had started to call her.    “Loki?”    Her speech was already starting to slur, and she could barely feel the pressure someone was keeping on the wound. Green mist surrounded them and everything went quiet. There were no more gunshots, no more yelling, apart from the fading one of her comm. The harsh midday sun had changed its glow and was now only a softly fading yellow gleam, which meant they certainly weren’t at the HYDRA base.    “FRIDAY,” the prince’s voice was filled with fear, “where is doctor Cho?”    “In the med wing. I have informed of your arrival and she is setting up the surgery room.”    Cho? But that meant that they were back home at the tower. Her head lolled to the side, and indeed they were. There was the couch they had sat on and talked endlessly about Shakespeare, just like she had dreamed in beginning. And there was the kitchen island Y/N always laid out food for the team in the weekend mornings, sparing a pile of pancakes for Loki, fresh strawberries adorning the sweet circles.    Y/N blinked and suddenly a cold and harsh surface greeted her back, white lights blinding her for an instant before black hair came back into view.    “You’re not gonna die on, me. Not if I have any say in it.”    It was all too much. She just wanted to let go, Y/N was so exhausted. So she closed her eyes and didn’t open them.
***
The God of Mischief was not in a good mood whatsoever. He couldn’t help the rage coursing through his freezing veins as Y/N fought for her life in the operating room. The anger was all-consuming, yelling at him to let it out, but what surprised him, even more, was that it was not addressed to any of the Avengers. But at himself. For not being able to deal with his feelings and not admitting to Y/N how much he loved her.    He sat in the waiting area for what seemed like days, pale fingers pulling at the ebony hair, helplessness not being an emotion he knew how to deal with. It was around hour five of Y/N’s surgery when voices invaded the tower.    “-ou she was not ready!” Loki recognised it to be Bucky and he stood up, watching as the dark-haired super soldier entered the hallway, fury written across his features.    “How was I supposed to know it was going to be booby-trapped?” Captain America retorted, pain shining in his own blue eyes accompanied by guilt.    “It’s not about that! It’s about the fact she can barely sleep because of the last time! She is terrified to go anywhere near the armoury in the gym! You know what that mission did to her!”    Loki’s eyes moved between the two friends like ping-pong balls as things started to click.    “I had no choice, Buck! We needed all hands on deck. Do you think I enjoy putting Y/N in danger? Do you think I get any satisfaction that she is in the same position right now as she was after the last mission? That she might not make it?”    That was the wrong thing for Steve to say as it was the last straw for Loki.    “What do you mean she might not make it?” the words came out strained. Two heads whipped to look at the god. They hadn’t noticed the quiet man through their bickering and the shock on Steve’s face was evidence of that.    “Nothing,” he stammered out and then cleared the throat. “She’s gonna be fine. It’s Y/N,” the blond continued, “she always is.”    “Then why,” Loki pointed at Bucky, “does he not seem to agree with you, Captain?”    He was at a dead end and seemed to realise it, so with a deep sigh, Steve hung his head before plopping down onto one of the plush chairs. ”Because in the last mission she almost did die. And the arrow, which that time was a simple bullet... but it was enough… it was coated in a substance that stops any regeneration of cells. Cuts, bruises, stab-wounds- no matter how little, once that poison makes itself present in your body- any injury can become deadly. Hell, you can die from a paper-cut. Y/N…” Steve threw his head back and looked at the ceiling as his mind went back to what was now almost six months ago. “She got shot. Took a bullet for Wanda. It grazed her heart. It took Helen and Bruce twenty-six hours to get her to a state that was somewhat better than dead-and-done. She was in a coma for two months before whatever was present in her system was flushed out. What used to take her two days tops to heal, took her a month. PTSD has been a bitch ever since then… but you already knew that…”    Tears slipped down the soldier’s cheeks as he remembered that horrible time. “And with it now being an arrow that went completely through her body…”    He couldn’t finish the sentence, couldn’t bring himself to. But Loki wasn’t listening, his eyes saw nothing but the metal doors that lead to the room where Y/N would either be saved or she’d never open her eyes again.    “If she dies,” Loki sneered, flaming green gaze looking at Steve, “her blood will be on your hands. And with it the rest of the worlds. Because you can be sure, I will burn everything to the ground and leave nothing in its wake.”    The god didn’t even look at Steve’s sagging shoulders before he left the two soldiers.
***
Miraculously Y/N had pulled through. Barely though. It had taken Cho and twenty other doctors eighteen hours to stabilise what could be stabilised. Now it was a waiting game. To see if the girl’s body could flush the poison out or would she succumb to it.    For five months Loki sat by her side day and night. Tony, obviously had given Y/N the best room possible, which included a shower the trickster utilised. He couldn’t be bothered to go back to his apartments, to see the still lingering remnants of their last night spent together. There were still two empty teacups on the floor as well as their unfinished books from a night full of talking and laughter.    He had taken Y/N’s and brought it to her hospital room. She’d want to read it when she woke up, was what Loki had said to himself when making the small distance to the med wing. The thought of ‘if she woke up’ was pushed to the furthest corner of his mind. Because if she didn’t, mercy would not exist. Not from him.
“Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
     That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks Within his bending sickle's compass come: Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks, But bears it out even to the edge of doom. If this be error and upon me proved, I never writ, nor no man ever loved.
Loki’s voice was smooth as it carried the words through the air. Green orbs traced each letter with care and diligence until a soft groan invaded the stillness of the room. Immediately he was up on his feet, face hovering over Y/N’s to see if there had been even the slight change. But nothing. Not a soft flutter of her eyelashes or a small part of the lips.    He shook his head, gaze returning to the poetry book. The god’s mind must have been playing tricks, making him hear what he wished to hear. But then his heart almost leapt out of his chest when a hoarse ‘turn it off’ came from Y/N.    “Darling?” hope laced the little word, tears threatening to spill from his eyes if it turned out to be simply a figment of his imagination.    “Please,” her mouth moved. “Turn it off.”    Loki laughed, grasping her palm and feeling her warm fingers embrace his. “Welcome back, love.”    A soft smile graced her face as finally, after almost twenty weeks of not seeing Y/N’s glimmering orbs, they opened up and gazed into his.    “Hey, Loki,” her look was so gentle he almost kissed her then and there. “Can you please turn it off. I just want five more minutes.”    “Turn what off?” The Asgardian was confused, looking around the room to find what was causing her discomfort.    “That annoying beeping. It’s making my head hurt.”    The answer made him chuckle and against his better judgement he pressed his lips to her forehead. “That’s your heartbeat, love. We can’t turn it off.”    “Then maybe just make it a tad bit quieter,” Y/N whispered back, life having returned to the girl’s form full force.    “How do you propose we do so?”    “I would say you moving a bit further away would be a great start. It’s not easy to keep my heart steady when the proximity of your face is making it beat faster.”    The boldness of the statement made Loki pull back and look into Y/N’s eyes.    “Am I making you nervous?” He gave the woman a confident smirk, but in truth, he was breathless to the point of being dizzy. The god’s brain couldn’t comprehend the fact she was being so honest and blunt about her feelings. That she could possibly reciprocate.    “You know,” her fingers squeezed his and Loki felt warmth rush through his veins, “for being the God of Lies you sure as hell are shit at spotting when people are desperately hiding their feelings, let alone acting as if they possess none.”    Loki’s mouth opened and closed like a fish’s out of the water. “You didn’t say anything,” was what he was able to come up with. If he could’ve, he would’ve facepalmed himself, but Y/N’s small laughter brought him back to reality right when her palm grasped around the collar of his green silken shirt and pulled him down.    Her lips moved against his in lazy pace, allowing the pair to enjoy and memorise every second of the sweet kiss. Only when Y/N broke them apart, taking a deep gulp of air did Loki realise what had just happened. And it made tears spring to his eyes.    “I thought I lost you,” he choked out, looking over at the woman whose joyful expression had morphed into that of a frown. “I thought I would have to go on with my life having been unable to confess, to kiss you. To show that I love you.”    Y/N’s hand moved to cup Loki’s jaw as she tenderly stroked his cheek with her thumb.    “Then from now on I want you to know- I love you Loki. And whatever happens, I’ll always pull through.” She smiled before pressing their lips together again. “After all, I now have one more reason to live.”    A faint smirk etched itself on Loki’s face as she wiped away one last tear. “And what is that, Princess?”    “You, my Prince.”

Bewitching Monsters - Elf (Aero) Part 3
Series Rating: 18+ Chapter Contains: minor swearing, minor adult dialogue/themes Pairing: f/m (m/m mention) BeMo Masterlist   ☆  Writing Masterlist
Tumblr media
“Dish, Witch.” Despite the café being packed with hungover patrons, Honey took the time to sit down across from me and hold my potpie hostage until I answered her. “How was your feis?”
“It was lovely. Now give me my food.”
She slid the plate over to me, a subtle scowl tugging at her features. “What did you two get up to?”
I savored a large bite, ignoring her until the cloying hunger ripping through my belly started to subside. “We kissed.”
“And?”
“Kissed more.”
She hopped to her feet, slamming her hands on the table. “That’s it? You kissed? You only kissed? Ugh! You two are so frustratingly, disappointingly vapid!” She marched back to the counter and returned to her work. Her yelling made many people stare my way. I glared at them in turn until they looked away. Nosy gossips.
A half hour later, after I finished my food and handling some work on my tablet, I was standing to leave when Honey ambushed me again. She placed three bags on the table and beamed a deadly, manipulative smile at me. “Heading out, dear Witch?”
“Yes,” I answered simply. What did she want?
“Could you deliver this for me? The café is so busy I’m not able to make this delivery. You’ll be compensated of course.”
There were red flags all over the place, but I could at least hear her out. Maybe the payment would be worth whatever trouble this actually was. “What’s the offer?”
“Five pounds of chocolate covered blackberries.”
“Deal.” Curse her for getting me hooked on those. They were too good to pass up. She gave me the address and I was off.
I arrived at a lovely apartment building ten minutes away. Lovely if you liked the neutral tone, nouveau riche look. I buzzed the apartment.
“Who are you?” They weren’t explicitly rude, but their tone still hinted at arrogance—or maybe that was my bias.
“I have a delivery from Honey Cup Café.”
There was a long pause. Then the door buzzed as it unlocked. Oh, no problem. I don’t mind bringing it up to you, I silently sneered at them. Could they really not be bothered to come down themselves or just say something?
At least they were prompt in answering their door. However I was not expecting to be greeted by Aero in only a skirt—actually a plain sheet tied around his waist.
“Two gifts in one. How blessed am I?”
“You’re not who I talked to,” I accused. So he was why Honey had sent me on this errand. I should have guessed.
“No, that was my roommate and boyfriend. Come in, you should meet.” He didn’t give me the option to refuse as he pulled me inside.
Their apartment was open and airy, filled with a number of large, potted plants and even more candles. Incense hung heavy in the air. Aero dragged me to the kitchen then took the bags of food from me. He had half of it pulled out and on the breakfast bar when the boyfriend in question walked in.
“So you’re the witch I keep hearing about,” he smiled then bowed. He was similar to Aero in height and build, with the pointed ears of a fae race. His hair was pulled into a messy bun with a few errant blue curls in his face. His vitiligo perfectly highlighted the V of muscles dipping below his skirt—a proper skirt, unlike Aero’s. “Call me Willow.”
“Nice to meet you. Call me Witch.” I shot a pointed look at Aero.
With a roll of his eyes he said, “Yes, yes—sorry for not telling you sooner. Though as kissing-friends I didn’t realize it’d be such an issue. Unless you decided you want more now?” His coy smirk didn’t have the energy I’d come to expect. Then I noted how dark his eyes were. Did the hangover really hit him that hard? I guess I did have the unfair advantage of having made a rehydration and healing potion to drink before bed so I wouldn’t be a hot mess. All things considered, I let this laps in information go.
“Not today.”
He shrugged, having expected my answer. Aero pulled out my berries but I quickly snatched them up. He looked at me, offended. “Not going to share?”
“Hey, these were my payment for delivering to you guys. A delivery, I might add, I haven’t gotten a tip for.”
Now his smile was closer to his usual self. He stepped closer, sliding his hands up my hips then pulling me against him. “You want a tip?” His head dipped low, an inch away from a kiss. Part of my heart fluttered. Another part remembered that Willow was standing two feet away.
“Don’t mind me, love,” he dismissed, noticing my hesitation. He was more concerned with the food. “He’s done far more in front of me.”
Aero drew back. “Are you not comfortable with polyamory?”
“That’s not it,” I shook my head. “I’m fine with that. No—it’s more so that we just met, and I was completely unprepared for…” I gestured vaguely to all of us. “This.”
“At least we met like this and not when you had a minotaur balls deep in your ass.”
“What?” Where the hell had this conversation diverted to?
“You’re really gonna start with that story?” Aero groaned.
“What better one to start with?” His boyfriend beamed wickedly. “Anyways, long story short, we met at an orgy. With a minotaur balls deep in his ass.”
“There are… so many questions I have now.” And one hell of a mental image. “Should we be drunk again for this?”
“Gods no!” Aero protested. “I am nowhere near recovered and ready for another bender.”
Willow hummed and walked up behind him and kissed his neck. “That’s why Daddy is here to nurse you better,” he said as his lips trailed up towards Aero’s ear. The air elf had closed his eyes and melted into the other male’s touch. Willow looked at me. “Drink?”
There was no stopping the shit-eating grin on my face. I was learning so much about Aero today. “Sure. Juice or water, I’m not picky.”
We moved our chat to the living room and sat on the floor around a low table, the surface of which soon filled with food and drinks. Aero had no shame in dishing out more stories. They frequented a variety of BDSM events and some swinger parties. Aero was a complete submissive and enjoyed a number play types that I hadn’t even heard of. Willow was a caregiver, though never participated in any of the sexual scenes. His pleasure was in making sure everyone else was enjoying their time. They had many stories to offer, opening up an unknown world to me. And they invited me into it.
“Okay, while I am open minded, I am not sure an orgy is for me,” I conceded. Aero tried to steal a berry—he had managed five so far—but I slapped his hand away.
“Clearly ‘cause you’re terrible at sharing,” he dared.
“Pssh, no I’m not. You’re just a greedy berry thief trying to steal my hard earned pay.”
“Wait, no!” he said and snapped his fingers. “It’s because you just don’t like others seeing you naked.”
I picked up the nearest pillow and started beating him with it. “I thought. We got past. Bringing. That up!” I said in time with my hits.
“Back on topic,” Willow chimed in with a chuckle, not caring about the buffeting his boyfriend was receiving. “I wouldn’t start you at an orgy. Start with a private exhibition. Very controlled and small.”
“Mmmh… still not sure—aah!” Aero managed to snag the pillow from my grip. I lost my balance and fell into his lap.
“Would you prefer to watch me on the block first?” he offered. He leaned over and I met him the rest of way for a quick kiss. “Have some fun with me and get used to the audience?” He kissed me again.
“I thought we agreed on just kissing.”
This time the kiss lingered as his tongue danced its way into my mouth. He left me near breathless. “Scenes are different. What happens there, stays there. And you still don’t have to do anything you don’t want.”
I couldn’t tell if the sparkle dancing in his eyes was him imagining me in the center of a scene, or himself with me topping.
“I’ll give it some more thought.”

Rest In Peace: Chapter Six
Title: Rest In Peace
Chapter: 6
Summary: A part of Faithless Fairy Tale, a more in depth look at how they brought Laura back to life. Appearance of old faces, creation of new ones and if you’re looking for canon, it left a long, long time ago. If you squint you might be able to see some pieces from the book.
“No, love, in real life you can get all the way to death and never have finished one single story." -Catherynne M. Valente
+
“I can't believe I'm doing this.” Laura tells herself, looking at the open deep freezer before her. What had started as a seedling of a threat from Sweeney, had now become a reality of her own making because she could feel herself getting squishy.
She had moved what she could, shoving it into a different freezer across the way. Piling things that wouldn't matter next to it. If Ostara really cared about the damp bag of peas, she would buy her a new bag. Correction, she would make someone who was tall and ginger buy a new bag. This was technically his idea.
With help from an overturned bucket, Laura climbs in and lays down. The deep freezer is wide and long enough that it's an easy feat if she curls on her side. She can't really feel the cold any more, but she does relax a bit. No longer feeling like she's about to melt, or worse, start dropping limbs like a break dancing leaper.
-but the silence becomes an issue. And the darkness.
Laura forces herself to fake breathe in deep and out, twice before accepting defeat and pushing the freezer back open.
With renewed energy, she climbs out and rushes up the stairs, back into the massive kitchen where she finds Sweeney about to bite into a sandwich.
“I need your help.” She admits, and it pains her, it really does. The last time she asked for help...shit she doesn't even remember. Its like taking a knife to her own guts. But somehow, in the after math of his little story time, she finds the words slip out easy as a sin.
Sweeney looks angrily at her, then to the sandwich in his hands. Then back again, clearly struggling to make a choice.
“You can bring the damned sandwich. I don't care.” She tells him, only to promptly turn back down the stairs so she doesn't have to argue with him.  She waits on top of the bucket until he shows up. He takes one glance at the freezer then at her and frowns.
“I thought we were good.”
“We are.” As good as either of them could get. Her being dead, him her killer and the god that decided to fuck with them both gone. Obviously there was remaining issues but they were working on them. “I need you to talk to me while I chill in here. So I don't feel like I'm about to melt into a goo.”
“...You want me to talk?”
“Yup.” She chirps. Opening the freezer once more to climb in, back into the winter darkness that awaited. This time, when it shuts closed, she waits to hear his voice.
Finally after a beat, she hears him.
“What exactly do you want me to say?”
“I don't care.”
She can't see it, but she knows he's rolling his eyes.
“How about I tell you of the time some undeserving bastard stole my coin and how I met the smallest, bitterest dead bitch in the world?”
Laura grins widely, knowing he can't see.
“Yeah. Okay. Tell me that one.”
+
He tells her tales. Some from his past, now that she knows, he can tell her the bits and pieces that aren't important. That only he knows, that only matter to him. He tells her of the Gods and Goddesses he has met, working for the man she knows as Wednesday who would later be revealed as Odin. He tells her how some of them are doing just fine, how others live in the gutter. Which ones he likes. Which ones he hates with a passion.
Who chased him from their doorsteps and who tried to eat him.
He tells her about the time he went on a drunken rampage and burned down a Lucky Charms factory.
About the time he got into a fist fight with an Irish nun in New York because she wouldn't stop bad mouthing his kind. He had been young and bitter, and following some young lad who still believed.
“Who won?” Laura's voice echoes out from the deep freezer.
Sweeney grins, “I fuckin' did. Cops saw her throw the first punch, hauled her away.”
Laura laughs, and he decides to tell her about the time in Las Vegas, he saw three strippers of various stages of undress bitch slap Odin. How when he went to defend the old dirty bastard, they kneed him in the junk and stole his wallet.
All because they were all sisters of Lady Luck.
That one makes her laugh hard enough to pop her jaw out of its alignment.
+
“Your turn.” Sweeney proclaims hours later. The night is nearly over, and he's not slept but it's not a problem. He doesn't feel tired.
“My turn?”
“Tell me a tale.”
“Nah,” She drawls, “I mean, the dead tell no tales, remember?”
“Cop out.” He tells her, throwing a pea he found on the floor at her freezer.
A whole minute passes in silence before she speaks again.
“How about I tell you about the time some asshole leprechaun tried to bully me?”
“Aye, tell me that one then. He sounds like a handsome lad.”
+
Laura isn't the best story teller, but she manages to spin a web of interest. More than once getting distracted by a minor twist that she has to explain. Or to defend her choice, because Sweeney isn't a good listener and he wants to argue with her just to drive her up the wall. There are points in stories where she has to raise her voice just to keep it going over him.
She has to fight to tell her tales.
She tells him of the time her mother had an affair with her Sunday school teacher, and that's probably what jump started her apathy for religion. He mocks that maybe that's just how her mother choose to pray to her god.
She tells him about meeting Shadow, and he complains how lame of a meeting it is. She argues that it's a lot more interesting than most.
Finally she tells him about the world of sand, the God judging her and the feather instead.
“...Shit. That sounds like Mr.Jacquel. Or Anubis if you’re dead. Cheerful bugger was he? Haughty as the Pope and twice as judgmental? Wears a black smock like a granny at a funeral?”
“That doesn't make sense...but yeah. Why, he on Odin's side too?”
“No. He doesn't pick sides. Death gods don't have troubles like the rest of us do as much. They just get bored, go mad with it before they fade. Grimnir was friendly enough with ‘em, but only because they owed him a favor or two. What did you do?”
Laura thinks about lying, of telling him that she was drawn back before anything could be done.
Instead, she finds herself telling him the truth, “He tried to reach for my heart and I smacked his fucking hand. Then told me he had to weigh my heart against a fucking feather of all things.”
“That's how they do it, I hear there was one that ate your sins or something like it. Was he there?”
“Never got that far. I slammed my hand down on his stupid little scale. Good or bad, I lived my life and it sure as fuck wasn't light as a feather.” Laura recalls the god's stunned expression, that quickly turned into simmering anger at her attitude. “He told me I was to go to darkness. Not peaceful nothingness, darkness. To be crammed into a hot tub like the one I attempted to killed myself, complete with bug spray. So I told him to go fuck himself.” She still remembers how she felt. Pissed off and cheated.
Maybe she didn't believe in a fluffy cloud heaven, and more over knows she doesn't meet the requirements to get through those particular pearly gates but it had seem unfair regardless. If she hadn't believed, if she had simply vanished from the world that would have been better. Easier to accept.
Instead she felt insulted and punished for not believing at all, in anything. For not making a choice. And that wasn't even mentioning she wasn't even suppose to die, that gods had interfered with the course of her life for their own personal gain.
“Oh, I bet he was pissed. No one likes disorder like Mr. Jacquel.”
“He was fine with it last time I saw him.”
The lid of the freezer is lifted, Sweeney peers down at her, “You saw him again?”
Laura leans up onto her elbows, “Yeah. After I punched the shit out of those guys for hurting Shadow. I tore my arm off, and was trying to piece it back together with Aubrey’s crafting supplies. Next thing I know I’m bumping into him and his brother. They offered to stitch me up and give me a make over.”
His face contorts into clear confusion.
“The gods of death gave you a bloody make over.”
“You got a hearing problem? Yes. Why?” Laura stood up, only mildly annoyed with the fact that even in the box she was hardly reaching his neck. “I got the impression they didn't care what I did. So what does it matter? You said yourself they don't really pick sides.”
“Aye, when it comes to Grimnir and his war, no. They keep to themselves, on occasion they help out for a favor but that doesn't mean they ain’t got their own agendas. That's every god, dead girl. Not a single damn one of them does something for nothing. Not even Jesus Christ himself.”
He has a point.
“All he said was that I had a heavy heart, and oh man, didn't that suck. Oh, and some bullshit about vowing to return me to darkness.”
“Well it is the man's job.”
Something clicks, “Why is that?”
Sweeney sucks in a deep breath and rolls his eyes, “If I have to fuckin’ explain the ins and outs of what it means to be a god of death, I will cut my own throat with a fuckin' butter knife. His real name is Anubis, surely you took an ancient history class once or twice. Or has the American educational system become that bad?”
“It has, but not my question. I meant why him. I didn't believe in anything, that's what he told me himself. So why the hell was Anubis the Egyptian god of death in charge of my, clearly not Egyptian ass?”
It's a good enough question to stump the leprechaun for a moment or two, eventually offering a hesitant, “Coulda been the ol one eyed bastard again.”
“Question is still why, numb nuts. I was dead, super buried and all that jazz. No way in hell he accounts for Shadow getting your coin and him dropping it on my grave. What would have been the point of him going the extra mile of hiring Anubis to deal with me. I mean, if we are going by that logic, wouldn't it be easier to send one of the Jesus Christ super stars, someone I would have easily recognize and maybe not question if he just kick me down to hell?”
“I've only met the brothers twice, all I know is that they have a crazy cat sister and a crazier missing brother. Rest of the family is either rumors or gone. They've been running that funeral home for ages, neither of them have a taste for trouble or war. All they really seem to care about is hearing a good story and getting a good nibble on the dead.”
Which, holy shit why did no one mention that had to be something she worried about now.
“You mean they could have eaten me?”
“Not you, dead girl. To them you are a questionable chicken salad sandwich from the gas station gone bad. They like their meat a bit fresher.”
“Thanks.” She glowers, debating whether or not to punch him but when she goes to peer over the edge of the freezer, finds that something is missing. “Where's my bucket?”
“Oh, you mean my bucket? The one I had to sit on so my arse didn't go numb as fuck, sitting on the ground down here, talkin to you? Aye, that bucket is over there.” His joy evident as he points to said bucket,  which is a clear distance away from where she needs it to be. If she doesn't want to attempt to climb out of this damn thing like a toddler out of a crib.
“Go get my bucket.”
“My bucket, you mean.”
Laura feels the anger in her bubble up, “Either you get that bucket for me or I will stand up on this ledge, fling myself up at your stupid head and rip out every single strand of ugly hair you have. Including your fucking nose hair!”
“You can’t reach, cunt!”
“Wanna fucking bet?”
Laura makes a false pinching attempt towards him, and he steps back so quick he almost trips over his own feet. She smiles, satisfied at his growl until he stomps over and picks her up. Massive, strong hands wrap around her waist and for a second she is weightless.
She has always been a tiny woman, shorter than most, and that meant she was used to people; mostly men hauling her up. She didn't hate it, and even enjoyed the action with Shadow but normally it was just the sensation of being carried up. Of her toes leaving the ground and her weight being rested against someone's chest or arms.
Like she's something to carried, luggage turned burden because that's what happens. They pick her up, twirl her around and only then, realize slowly she is heavy in different ways.
She isn't what they expect hidden under her appearance, of a slim girl with no scars to see. She is dense bones and tense muscle, lacking sweetness and kindness, with a heavier heart than most. That’s when they put her down. Or let her down. Which ever comes first.
It's different with Sweeney, in his grasp she feels lighter. Like she's made up of something soft and airy, like spun cotton candy from a carnival. All because his strength completely envelops her, forcing her to realize this is him weak. This is him without his luck that currently rest in her belly, and yet it's still enough to make her feel as though she was floating.
Shit, if this is half of what people felt in the arms of their patron of worship, she could understand.
Unconsciously, she reaches out before he can let her go. Touching his wrists where they rest on her waist, making him go still. Obviously he had meant to just help her out, but she isn't ready to let this feeling go, not  just yet.
It's nothing like kissing Shadow, where she felt her heart beat, like she was drinking down a new born star and would happily implode if she could have just consumed her fill of him and his warmth; his love, she had wrongly assumed.
This, makes her lungs expand and draw in air. She exhales slowly, sharper than before. Like for once she needs to breath.
“What is this? What's happening?” She feels rather than sees his shrug, the bunching of his arms the way his pulse jumps under her thumbs.
“Your guess is good as mine, dead girl.”
Laura’s mind races. Nothing makes sense. Sure they swapped some stories, and she did her best to keep an open mind but surely it's not that easy? Getting an oil change is harder.
“It feels…” She can't explain.
Sweeney shifts subtly, enough for her to look up at him and gauges his guilty expression.
“Don't make this weird.”
“I ain't!”
“You so are.”
-and just like that, he is dropping her completely. Pulling his hands away and stalking back up the stairs. Muttering darkly under his breath.
Before he can shut the door, Laura shouts.
“That was a weird reaction, by the way.”
He slams the door so hard it cracks.

Throwing lemons / Sometimes Love Is Not Enough
Chapter 5
His ears were tingling. Eijirou didn’t really remember what happened. His head was dizzy and his belly hurt. Like a burn. But how? His quirk should have protected him from that? had he been too slow?
He blinked. It was kind of dark in here the lights almost outside of his vision.
“Fuck…” he mumbled and tried to get up. He saw Bakugou staring at him like he would leap at him any moment. But Eijirou still smiled at him soothingly, memories returning to him slowly.
He had hugged the blond on a whim, not really thinking about if that was a good idea. Ge gad sounded so distressed and lonely. But it seemed to have the opposite effect Eijirou had in mind. Bakugou seemed to be content with hugs. So he had defended his personal space.
“I am sorry.” Eijirou said while sitting up. He didn’t remember going down. And sitting up made him flinch in pain. So he looked down at himself seeing his shirt charred and still smoldering. Underneath the skin was red and burned. No blisters were showing so it seemed to be a low degree burn. Nothing serious.
Katsuki snapped out of his reverie eying the redhead on the ground. He came back to his senses and reached out his hand. “You better should get up.” They both had been lucky for Kirishima’s quirk. Katsuki could have killed him. But he got off with some scratches and minor burns. It would probably heal without leaving a scar, Eijirou figured.
But still…
The redhead took the offered hand and pulled himself up. He seemed to be a bit wobbly on his legs. “You okay?” Katsuki asked reluctantly. He hated to do this. He should leave and get a shower. Now that Kirishima stood again he pulled his hand back fast, wiping it off on the fabric of his pants. He hated the feeling of skin on skin.
“Yeah. Just a bit startled. Man…” he rubbed his neck, seeming to feel guilty. “I am really sorry. I… shouldn’t have…”
“Shut up!” Katsuki snapped rubbing his eyebrows. I don’t have time for this and you should be at home by now too. So just forget it!”
Eijirou eyed him suspiciously. “You know. You really should get some rest. Admit it or not. So leave the cleaning to me and head home first today.”
Katsuki snorted. “Yeah of course. I leave you here alone with the daily takings. Will totally still be there in the morning.”
Eijirou sighed. “Come on. You have to at least trust your employees. You know where I live, my name, my insurance number and all. If something would be gone you could just go to the police and sue me.” He sighed heavily at the thought.
“Tsk. A lawsuit doesn’t mean that I would get anything back.”
“But it would end my career for sure. And that before it even began!”
Katsuki raised a questioning eyebrow, not being able to connect the pieces to a satisfying answer. Maybe he really was tired …
“I am currently on my road to join the police once.” explained Kirishima thankfully without having to be asked first. “So there would be too much at stake for me. However how tempting it might be.”
Silence stretched between them for a moment. “You’re really do-gooder, huh? Helper complex too. This world will destroy you.” Katsuki paused. “But fine. then get cash and start counting. But if one cent is missing I will get your sorry ass to court and roast you!”
“Yes, sir!” Eijirou said, “Only counting, it is!”
“I give you a safety bag. Leave 30.000 ¥ for change the rest goes into the beg. Make your to do that right. Otherwise, my taxes will rise unnecessarily.”
Katsuki walked over to the cash register, followed by the redhead. He let it snap open pulling out the drawer and handed it to Kirishima while letting the register print the stats of today. Seeing the numbers made Katsuki ease a bit down. It had been a rather successful day. Maybe they weren’t so wrong in suggesting a day off. At least it should be possible. He swallowed down a weary sigh. He felt worn out and raw. His muscles were sore but the hot bath was still far away. At times like these, it was better for him to be alone. The solitude gave him strength. It was like charging up. It had to wait. To drive out the redhead would cost him more energy than just pulling through.
So he went back and then upstairs to his little office. Putting away the receipt into the folder where all the other receipts of the days before already waited to greet their new companion. In here it was silent. He couldn’t hear the silent counting of Kirishima so for a minute he just closed his eyes and took a deep rigid breath. He hated it when others were right. He wanted to prove everyone around him wrong. They all imagined knowing what he needed or wanted. It was disgusting how all these people were looking down on him. But managing a restaurant was not able without employees and he had to prove that even that was within his powers. He could manage everything! But sometimes a little voice in his head asked if it were true then why was he so desperate to prove it to everyone? Wasn’t it a sign that he didn’t believe it himself.
But that little voice was a damn fucker. And he wouldn't listen to it. No one was allowed to talk down to him. Not even his own motherfucking brain throwing a teenage tantrum. Shit god, he was over twenty! He was too old for such shit.
After taking his little break he grabbed one of the safety bags, He would need to buy new ones soon, and eventually headed down again. To his kitchen where the first aid kit was stored away. Fishing out a burn ointment and going back to the redhead. He sat at one of the tables counting coins. His face was torn in concentration, worrying his bottom lip. A little trickle of blood ran down his chin. He didn’t seem to notice. Most likely this was a common thing to happen with such sharpass teeth. Katsuki was sure eating wasn’t an easy thing for Kirishima. At least anything beneath meat, which he could tear apart with these crazy sharp canine. He would keep that in mind.
“Stand up. And for goodness sake take off this shitty rags, shitty hair.”
Kirishima looked up startled. Then cursing, seeming to have forgotten where he stopped counting. So fucking stupid! But that fucker still managed a smile. He really was an easygoing person. But somehow it didn’t bother Katsuki as much as before. Stupid sleep deprivation!
“I happen to undress in front of you a lot, it seems” the redhead teased. “Hope you’re not doing this on purpose. If you want to marvel my abs, just ask!”
It was true that the body of the other man was trained and there were certainly a lot of people who would enjoy such a few. But Bakugou didn’t belong to these. So he growled deeply in his throat while Kirishima got rid of the remains of his shirt, as he was told. “Don’t worry. Your shitty abs are the least on my mind.” It kind of unnerved him that the guy had the guts to joke around while he should be tired and in pain. Strange. Even stranger that Katsuki somehow didn’t mind. But he hadn’t had to admit that or be assumed.
He took a closer look at the burn. For a first grade burn, it was rather severe. So he coated his fingers with the ointment and started applying it. “You should go to the hospital tomorrow. Shop will stay closed tomorrow anyway.” He made the decision at the moment the words left his mouth. It was the right thing to do. Even though someone else had suggested it.
The redhead just nodded. He at least had the audacity not to brag about Katsuki’s defeat in that matter. Better for him. He would have killed him for sure, elsewise.
Both of them were silent during the treatment. Only as Katsuki retreated his hand Kirishima dared to speak. “You don’t like being hugged, huh?” His voice was distant and clouded in thought. But no pity was audible from it.
“No one is allowed to touch me in any way, without my personal permission.” the blond growled deep in his throats feeling kind of menaced.
But it wouldn’t be Kirishima Eijirou if he would stop his noisy questions here. “So… where is that coming from? I mean, I do understand and will respect it in the future, promise, man! But it’s easier if I knew what the actual problem is, usually this kind of things have a certain cause.”
“Don’t treat me like a fucking freak!” Katsuki snapped getting aggravated again.
“You aren’t.” Kirishima deadpanned. And took all of the winds out of Katsuki’s sails. “It just means that you don’t work the way society is wanting you. But you never applied to those rules anyway, don’t you?”
“I don’t fucking care about stupid shit like society or it’s rules!”
“I figured as much.” Eijirou laughed. But he still wondered. A hug caused such a strong reaction and he would draw back when other people tried to touch him but then from time to time Bakugou touched him so casually. It seemed to be an issue who was the initiator. And if there - and he was sure there was - a story behind it, it would probably be a rather severe one. Hopefully, Bakugou would trust him enough to tell in the future. But that day seemed rather far right now.
The rest of the night they didn’t talk about much of importance. Eijirou had just talked about some casual stuff and Bakugou had pretended not to be interested.
But still Eijirou was surprised but how much and how tiring work there was after closing the restaurant. Counting the money wasn’t everything. Every purchase needed to be written down and the amount of cash that remained in the register to be noted as well. It seemed to be important for taxes or something like that. Eijirou didn’t really understand the answer Bakugou had given him after asking. He was just happy that even after the little fight they had that Bakugou seemed to have opened up at least a bit, tonight. It gave him this cozy feeling that he always had when he was starting to make a new friend.
It was 2 am and eijirou felt so exhausted. His lids were heavy and he wished to just get to sleep right here right now. Or that his bed would just suck him in so he hadn’t had to move at all. But all wishing was futile. “See you the day after tomorrow, then. And remember to relax a bit, yeah?”
“Shut the fuck up and go home already shitty hair!” Bakugou snapped while locking the backdoor.
“I do, I do!” Eijirou smiled and waved goodbye. Despite everything that happened it had been a good day… Somehow. He felt closer to Bakugou now. And that was such a great feeling. He loved to get to know people better, understanding them. And Bakugou was somehow an even more special case.
At home he just fell in his bed, falling asleep immediately.
Today he was going to learn for sure! After he had gone on a walk with Toto, showered and eaten breakfast he made himself a pile of snacks and sitting down at his kotatsu, his books in front of him, music playing softly in the background, his hair tied back in a sloppy ponytail, a Bandana keeping his bangs out of his eyes.
Opening his textbooks and notes he tried to remember what the professor had lectured about. But his notes were sloppy and chaotic while being accompanied by some doodle he had made to channel his concentration. He remembered drawing them way better than the stuff he actually should learn. Damn!
He sighed. Probably he should at least arrange his notes first and copy them neatly. It would take quite some time but it would may help him remember. So he stood up to get a stack of paper.
Rearranging his notes was tiresome and took so much time! He wouldn’t be able to do much more than just this today. It was so frustrating. He checked the time regularly. Maybe he actually needed a tutor. How did the other students manage that? Did they have more hours to the day? He sighed again. Something he did more often in these last month. He laid his head down on the desk for a moment. The make-up exam wouldn’t go any different than the finals at this stake.
He got up, looking at his crimson riot poster in monochrome and red, just above his television. He had to ma up! A little break and then just back to work! So he raised from under the kotatsu and fetched himself a drink. Iced coffee would give him some energy.
He was about to sit down again when the doorbell rang. He hadn’t expected any guests. Bt well maybe it was one of his neighbors needing some help. So he hurried to his door opening it a little to see Himiko in front of it grinning happily at him. Dabi accompanied her as usual. Sometimes Eijirou wondered if he was her boyfriend. Till now he hadn’t bothered asking. It wasn’t something that could be asked so easily and actually, it wasn’t really any of his business.
“Ei-kun!” Himiko sang with that bright smile of hers growing even bigger, clinging to him in a warm hug. All girly noises. Dabi only raised his hands in a short greeting gesture. He was always rather composed, almost appearing bored, his turquoise eyes scanning his surroundings lazily.
“Come on in you two.” Eijirou waved them to come out of the hallway. Yes, he was busy and he knew it wouldn’t get any better with a distraction, but when his friends bother to actually visit him he couldn’t bring himself to send them away.
“Good to see you again! You were so busy these last days. I thought you didn’t want to see us anymore!” Himiko chirped while releasing him, took off her shoes and danced into his living room. She was always this cheerful. A trait the redhead really liked about her. “No of course not! I love to have you over!”
Dabi followed her with his shoulders relaxed and his hands in the pockets. Eijirou followed them. “I am sorry! I don’t have much to offer. But can I bring you something to drink?”
Himiko had already snuggled herself under the kotatsu, stuffing some chips in her mouth and sorting through Eijirou’s notes. “Do you have some sparkling soda?” She smiled sweetly while holding one of the papers against the light like it would give away some secret. Like a kid. She was really a cute girl.
“And you Dabi-kun?”
“Tea. If you can make it decent?”
“Of course! Just wait a sec!”
He hurried into his little open kitchen, boiling some water while eyeing his guests. Dabi had settled down on the couch, flipping through a magazine Eijirou had been given the other day. He hadn’t had the time to look into it yet, but he didn’t mind these two getting themselves at home. He really liked to have friends over.
“How do you keep up with boring stuff like this?” Himiko asked throwing back the paper on the pile as if it was disgusting.
Eijirou laughed. “It’s all for the greater cause.” Dabi snorted but didn’t say anything in that matter.
“I think you should stop that bullshit and go for art!” Himiko laughed her sweet girly laugh. “I don’t know why you would want to chain yourself to a stupid society. I mean it’s not like the police does actually any good.”
A sigh escaped the redhead's lips at that statement. They had talked about that matter so often till now. “You know that it is my dream.” he laughed again, slightly embarrassed. “And if someone isn’t starting things will never change. I just have to work hard for it.”
“My poor, Ei-kun. Still believes that he’ll change the world with his kind heart. I really want you to make that happen.” She sighed in a way that made clear that she knew it was impossible. It reminded him of what had Bakugou said to him.
Eijirou served his friends their drinks than sitting down at his kotatsu too, trying to sort his papers. But it was hopeless since Himiko were still looking through them not paying attention if she made a mess of things.
“Ah, here it is! The Eijirou art piece I was looking for.” She giggled. “And as always Ei-kun draws concentrated young students at work. It’s so sarcastic. I bet you looked exactly the same while drawing it.” More giddy giggles.
Eijirou couldn’t stop himself blushing. Because she was probably right.
“I wonder why you only ever draw guys. Are you too good of a guy to sketch a girl stealthily or are these the naughty kind of paintings you hide in your bedroom for lonely hours?”
The redheads face now matched colors with his hair at that statement, not being able to think straight. “N-No! I don’t do drawings like that! I always sketch what catches my eyes! And… and in my class, there aren’t many girls… that’s all!”
Himiko laughed again highly amused. Teasing Eijirou seemed rather satisfying to her. Dabi still sat silently on the couch. Now checking his phone. It was a very modern looking phone that Eijirou envied. His own was already six years old. He didn’t know what kind of job Dabi had, but it sure paid well.
“I guess in a boring class like that are only plain girls that never look out for them, anyway. I couldn’t imagine going out of the house without at least a basic make-up.”
She sighed deeply, kind of upset about something. That alarmed Eijirou.
“It’s so sad some girls have to suffer under their old-fashioned cruel parents. Can you imagine what a girl feels like without make-up? Exposed to the world and prohibited from showing their true potentials, not being able to be their true selves?”
She really was worked up about this topic, while Dabi only snorted as an answer, not even looking up. “Bullshit.”
“Dabi-kun!” the blond girl whined stressing the name of her friend, dramatically still managed to look cute while doing so. “You are so mean! That’s why you don’t have a girlfriend!” Hah! So they weren’t a thing Eijirou figured. He had known sooner or later he would find out the truth without having to pry. “You don’t understand a woman’s heart at all!”
Eijirou figured the raven's opinion could have something to do with his own appearance. The scares mixed with the piercings. Of course, he wouldn’t be anyone to look for outer beauty.
Himiko now turned to Eijirou showing her other friend the cold shoulder. “But you do! Right Ei-kun? You understand what cruel punishment it is for a girl to be forced to sacrifice her beauty and youth.”
“O-of course.” Eijirou stuttered. Actually, he couldn’t imagine that this was that big of a problem, but she was so distressed it just had to be true. And he didn’t want her to cry or this situation to escalate further. And it seemed that Dabi was in less need of help than little Himiko.
“Wonderful! Then you will help me, don’t you, sweety? It’s what makes you such a great person, you help everyone! You are just too precious for this world!”
Eijirou felt his stomach clench. Somehow felt like he walked into something he had lost control over. But Himiko was right. He always helped if he could. He wanted to see people happy and of course, he would help her out this time again.
“But how can I help? It’s not like I can talk to every stubborn mom in the city.”
Himiko laughed all of her sadness gone, Eijirou relaxed. “Don’t worry. You don’t have to do much. Just let the poor souls sent their packages here and deliver them. I sued to do that, but I was found out so I have to stop. So you would make sooo many girls very happy! Especially me!” she chirped reached across the kotatsu and took Eijirou’s hand. The redhead grinned. That sounded rather easy to do and not very time-consuming. And she was cheerful again. That was all that mattered. Dabi still gave them the silent treatment but didn’t seem too upset, so that would be okay, Eijirou figured. These two often fought but always made up. They were really close.
“Then I am very happy to help!” Eijirou said and the happy squeal he received from Himiko was worth it. He lived for that, even would sacrifice meals. His friends’ happiness. He had always been like this. Always holding back for the sake of others. And he had never regretted it once.
“Oh while we’re at girls and their beauty, I found some earrings I really like. You have to take a look and give me your opinion!”
With the two of them, it had always been like this. She had been the first friend he made in Musutafu. And it seemed that she hadn’t made any female friends to cheer over girly stuff so somehow Kirishima had filled into this hole. Only problem? He almost every time found himself buying her that stuff. So this time, too, was not an exception. But she for sure would look gorgeous with these earrings and the fitting necklace. What were 8.000 Yen a price in terms of happiness?

Princess
Part 1, part 2 , part 3, part 4 final part Masterlist
summary: Bucky and the reader hate each other for the most part. Both throwing cheap blows in order to get a reaction out of the other but why and when did this happen and can they ever fix t?
Bucky Barnes x reader (kind of),  Wade Wilson x platonic!reader
warnings: swearing, the reader is a bitch at the moment but Bucky is as well, kind of I don't know.
Authors note at the end.
“No, the princess wants to say something I say we let her,” Bucky said with a lazy smirk. His eyes were dark, challenging, to most it seemed as if he was revelling at the moment.
She turned to him quickly, moving her whole chair so that she could face him head-on. Cocking her head to the left, she put her glass down. “I’m sure we've had this conversation before but since you did recently turn 100 I’ll give you an allowance. Do not call me that again. Do you understand James?” She didn't wait for his answer and instead started to engage in a seemingly animated conversation with Tony about the mission.
Bucky turned to Steve and clenched his jaw. It took a minute, but he opened his mouth again, raising his voice so that the whole room could hear him. “I’m sorry but remind me why not to again, you are director Fury’s daughter, a privileged bitch with no real talent until your daddy sold you off to become a little science experiment.”
The air shifted quickly, everyone else in the room opted to not say anything as they learnt that this was the best move in this situation. “That is not what happened,” she replied, anger in her words but her eyes had a hint of sadness.
“Then what did princess, we all want to know. You come back 3 years later like the fucking avatar with no explanation.”
“This is coming from the guy everyone thought was dead but was actually murdering people as if it were the next level in a video game.”
Someone sucked in their breath hard but the two didn't notice. They sat there for a minute, jaws clenched, eyes dark and challenging. There was no movement from anyone until she got up. The suddenness of it made everyone in the room jump. She picked up her drink and walked out of the room, her steps both graceful and heavy. It was as if with a slight increase in weight her heel would pierce the floor with each step.
Once she had left the room everyone's eyes shifted towards Bucky to try and gauge his reaction, but he was completely blank. He stood up and left, presumably to go to his room with Steve trailing after him. There were slight mumbles between the remaining members before they all did the same, Wanda walking in the direction of Y/N’s room while Sam and Nat walked towards Bucky’s.
She had her head in her hands when Wanda walked in, she was gasping having tried to keep herself from breaking down. She refused to give him the satisfaction. Wanda moved to sit on the floor in front of her and pulled Y/N into her arms where she broke down. It was a full 5minutes of crying before she spoke up.
“Wanda, I don’t know what to do.” She whispered, sniffling slightly.
“About what?” Wanda answered moving back to look at her.
“About Bucky.”
“You can’t let him get to you.”
“I don’t hate him Wanda, but he gets me so angry sometimes. There’s no reason to hate him we weren’t like this before.” She said moving from the floor onto her bed.
She was right in that it wasn’t like this before. They weren’t friends, still very cautious with each other but civil. It was the anniversary of the day she had gone missing but only her father knew that. She was snappy with him getting angry quickly. He rationalised it, saying it was just one day until she started to blame everything on him. That whole day if they were in the same room and there was a minor inconvenience or something he didn’t know she had something snarky to say about it. Everyone assumed that he took this to heart because he started to retaliate towards the evening. It ended with a huge argument, both being as nasty as the other, it got out of hand and perhaps due to pride neither of them got over it.
She felt a tug in her head as if someone was calling out to her and focussed back onto Wanda.
“I’m sorry Y/N, you just zoned out for a minute,” Wanda said a small smile on her face.
“It’s fine I’m going out anyways.” She said wiping her eyes and moving towards the dresser.
“where to, do you want me to come?”
“No, but thank you, Wanda. I was supposed to meet Wade around now.”
Wanda said a quick goodbye and left her to her own devices, thinking this was the best thing to do since she was clearly not going to say any more on the matter. Y/N traded in her jumpsuit for a pair of jeans and a jumper that she had stolen from Steve’s washing the day before. She opened the balcony and jumped out of the window, floating downwards while admiring the view of the hills in the distance. Her feet touched the ground gently and she entered the garage grabbing the keys to her motorcycle and driving off.
It wasn’t long before she reached the bar, pulling her hood over her head she entered spotting Vanessa waiting a table. The two exchanged quick hellos’ before she pointed out Wade, sitting in a booth by himself.
“You going to say hi to your second favourite girl or what.” She muttered, sliding herself into the booth.
“Third favourite, I’m pretty sure its Vanessa, Blake Lively and then you.” He said a cheeky smile on his face. She felt relaxed immediately after hearing him speak and leaned back into the booth, taking her hood off. “Well shit, it looks like you got eye-fucked by hot sauce. Literally, eye fucked.”
“Well, thanks, Wade. Don’t you know how to make a girl feel special.” She chuckled lightly.
“But seriously was it that Bucky that you won’t let me meet.” The lazy smile turned into a small frown.
“Yes.” They both shifted uncomfortably her hands moving onto the table in front of her.
“You need to stop taking your anger out on him Y/N. Ajax is dead, that part of your life is over.”
“Well maybe but I have no outlet Wade, they barely let me go out on missions because of my dad even though I’m fully fucking capable. It feels good to let something out and of course, it is him, it’s not as if this is totally one-sided he digs and pulls and punches where he can, I guess I’m his outlet as well. Anyways, what the fuck can I do, I sit at home all day and do jack shit and he’s just there. So, fucking capable and loved. You know they use him for almost every mission. They coddle him like a fragile child and praise him for everything he does and yeah, I mind my business for the most part and then he opens his damn mouth, says something snarky and I want to murder him.” She took a deep breath and looked down at her hands.
“Well that sounds like you’re jealous but that’s no reason to dig at him like you would a grave. Isn’t there a saying, be the bigger person” Wade said being her usual voice of reason.
“No shit. But it’s not as if he doesn’t do it to me. He starts it, I just escalate things really. Be the bigger person my ass. God, I’m a shit person Wade. Fuck!” he put her head on the table groaning softly.
“I think what you need to do is apologise, but your prideful and that’s a probable no. You can start with finding a vice so that you don’t feel the need to pull at him. Also therapy or addressing your issues, having a civilised conversation with him but those are the boring options.”
She put her head up slightly so she could see him through her lashes. “A vice?”
“Yes, a vice. I mean mine is, well let’s not get into mine. I would suggest drinking but you don’t drink and that’s not a good idea, drugs to that’s a no. Gambling but you’re a shit gambler.”
“I’m not a”
“You’re a shit gambler don’t even. Find a hobby or something. Or sex but I mean be careful and that. Your good at art right how about learning to tattoo people or something.” He said before turning to wave down Vanessa and ask for another beer.
Y/N sat up at the mention of art and asked for water. “That’s actually a good idea.”
“What the sex.” He said between sips
“No, what the fuck the art.”
“Oh, that yeah, I’ve got a good idea to cheer you up and this is boring and now I’ve totally solved your problem so let’s go.” He downed his beer and got up pulling her along with him and waving at Vanessa. The pair walked through the streets, Wade leading the way and Y/N following only a step behind. They discussed Vanessa mostly and possible kid one in the making before stopping outside an arcade. He dragged her through the doors, the first things she noticed were the neon machines, loud music and the distinct smell of day old pizza.
“where is it.”
“Where is what Wade?” he handed you a hammer once he found what he was looking for.
“Is that a whack a mole machine. I didn’t even know they made these anymore.”
Wade put in the money and the two stood there waiting on their respective sides. Both had brilliant instincts, so the score was close with Wade winning in the end by pure chance. After a couple more games they stopped on a tie. They parted ways once they had gone back to the bar and Y/N reached the compound at about 2am.
She made herself a cup of tea in the communal kitchen and walked up to the greenhouse that she had begged Tony to install on the top floor. The lights were already on when she entered signalling that someone was already here, but she walked in any way.
A/N I’m so sorry but my writing got sloppy at the end and I really have no clue how to fix it urgh. I will probably change POV in the next part because it got really difficult towards the end and I kept trying to avoid saying she did this and that but I’m pretty sure I did anyway. Also, there’s likely to be 2 more parts after this but we’ll see how it goes.

Higher than the Big Trees Ch. 5
Read on ao3
It’s bright and early the following Monday and Alec has a full day. In the morning, he’s taping the preliminary footage for his Good Morning America slot that will predominantly be live on Friday. In the afternoon, he has two meetings. One is with Out Magazine. He’s their cover for the next issue and he has a photo shoot and interview. The other is with the record execs to discuss the next phase of his career: Album 7, as yet untitled.
Alec hasn’t told anyone, but he’s wildly unsure about where he wants to go. Where does one go after completing their third sold-out world tour? He's been at the top for so long that he doesn't know what else he can do. He fears he's reached his limit. He hasn’t written a song in weeks and the little new material he has is no good.
He’s suffering from extreme writer’s block. Nothing feels fresh. Everything is generic, stale. Mediocre. Alec very much fears that his good luck has run out. He’s spent ten years in the limelight and that’s more than most artists ever have.
Truth be told, Alec is disenchanted with the whole scene. He can’t help but think about that guy from the club. Whatever-his-name-was had been only too eager to sleep with Alec, forget that he was apparently in a committed relationship. People can be shit, and Alec knows that better than most, but it doesn’t help him feel any less like a piece of meat. A commodity.
Everyone wants Alec Lightwood, superstar. They want the guy that can hook them up with floor seats to the Lakers or score them a table at the restaurant du jour without reservations. Alec is the guy who can whisk you away for a weekend trip to Belize, first class all the way.
They want that Alec.
No one sticks around for the less glamorous man. The Alec that’s deathly afraid of spiders, has a hideous fondness for hole-riddled hoodies, and whose favorite movie is Pride and Prejudice. Only a handful of people know Alec under the surface. He likes it that way. He does. But half of that number is family and the other half might as well be. It’d be nice to meet someone who cared about him, the person. Not him, the celebrity.
But, it is what it is, and Alec needs to stop moping and get ready for the day. He wakes up around six in the morning, goes for a run to the Black Panther soundtrack, and when he returns to the penthouse, Jace and Izzy are in the kitchen.
Jace wakes up every morning at the ass crack of dawn to open his gym and who the hell knows why Izzy is up so early. She is notoriously not a morning person.
She’s swallowed up by, it looks like, one of his hoodies. She’s staring at the coffee machine with a kind of singular focus that she usually reserves for the camera or a biology textbook. She doesn’t acknowledge him and he just grabs an apple from the bowl on the counter and heads to his room, throwing a nod to Jace as they pass each other.
He munches on the apple while scrolling through his phone. He answers a few tweets and posts an Insta pic of the three of them from over the weekend. They’re all at Uptown Java with the caption it’s good to be home.
Alec takes a shower and gets ready for the day. He throws on a pair of olive green ankle pants with a lightweight navy sweater and a pair of light brown Oxfords. He throws on his sunglasses, grabs his wallet, and leaves the apartment.
When he gets downstairs, he chats to the doorman for a few minutes. His name is Charles and he’s tall and lean like a greyhound. He’s at least eighty years old and has been working as a doorman since Alec moved in-- probably since before Alec was even born. He’s a sweet man who loves crossword puzzles and sweet tea. He always remembers Alec’s birthday and brings him a pie his wife baked every Sunday when he’s in town.
After talking with Charles, he heads out to the sidewalk. There are only one or two paps hovering around his building and Alec ignores them and their cameras. He’s gotten good at ignoring journalists over the years and they’re usually just like pesky gnats. The town car is waiting for him and his driver, Dave, opens the back door with a grin.
“How are you doing this morning, Mr. Lightwood?”
Alec grins back and throws him a nod. “I’m doing just fine today Dave. How about you? How’re the kids?”
“Well, little Elise won an award at the science fair over the weekend and Davy Jr.’s obsession this month is Simon’s latest album.”
Alec laughs a little. “Simon’s album has been a success. It's holding steady in the Billboard Top 100 and Lewis is ecstatic. I could get Davy a shirt, if you think he’d like it?”
Dave’s smile widens. “You know damn well that Davy would love anything having to do with Simon. I’d appreciate it, man.”
Alec has one leg in the car and looks at Dave over the open door. “I’ll see what I can do. Tell Elise congratulations and that she’ll have to explain to me what her experiment was the next time I see her. The two of them will have to visit Izzy, Jace, and me soon and catch us up. I'm sure Elise would love to chat with Izzy about all things science.”
Dave laughs as Alec sits down. “Will do, Mr. Lightwood.”
The drive to the television station is only half an hour, a minor miracle in New York traffic. Alec spends that time answering emails and catching up on the news.
They pull up in front of the building and when Dave opens his door, he’s immediately bombarded with cameras and shouts. Most of the people are journalists, whom Alec largely ignores. There are a few fans waiting on the sidewalk by the front doors, though, and Alec goes over to each of them. He spends a few minutes talking to them and getting pictures taken.
A few fans have gifts for him, which he warmly accepts. It always surprises him how thoughtful his fans can be. One girl brought him a handmade rainbow bracelet that he immediately puts on his wrist and a couple of boys give him a little penguin plushy the size of his fist. It’s cute as hell and Alec gives everyone a hug for coming out and seeing him.
He heads inside and is ushered through the labyrinth of hallways by an eager and attentive assistant. Alec spends the next few hours talking to more people than he can keep up with. He spends some time working on publicity shots for advertising and gets a better idea of the itinerary for Friday.
By the time he leaves ABC’s headquarters, it’s lunchtime and he has barely enough time to scarf down a hot dog from a street vendor before it’s time to head to his record company’s headquarters in Lower Manhattan. It’s forty-five minutes of bumper to bumper traffic and Alec's almost climbing out of the car before it comes to a complete stop. He’s never late for anything work-related and he strides into Institute Records with three minutes to spare.
Lydia is just inside, waiting for him. She’s on her phone, typing in a flurry, and looks sharp in a five thousand dollar suit. She looks every inch the agent and Alec is grateful that she’s always on top of things.
Without looking up, she asks, “What did you have for lunch?”
Alec says, “A hot dog from the vendor on the corner of 4th and Braxton.”
Lydia suppresses a full body-shudder. “I don’t know how you eat those things, never mind that you seem to love hot dogs with all the fervor of a teenage boy.”
Alec laughs. “Hotdogs are classic. They’re about as All-American as you can get and they hit the spot on a busy day running around New York.”
Lydia hums but doesn’t offer any other reply. She taps on the screen one last time before sliding her phone into her briefcase and finally looking at him.
“So, do you know the game plan for this meeting?”
Alec raises a brow. “Artfully misdirect and willfully play dumb?”
Sighing, Lydia says, “As a last resort, yes. Are you telling me there’s still nothing new that you want to show the label?”
“No.”
Lydia looks at him, appraisingly. “Okay, then. Since that’s the case, we’ll follow your plan. Remember, the primary goals here are to set a due date for first demos and discuss the music video we’re doing for your last single from An Arrow in the Dark. We’ll try to extend the timeline until. . . August 1st? That will give us another month for you to produce more material. What do you think about that deadline?”
An Arrow in the Dark was his sixth album and had sold over a million copies within its first week of release. He only had one more single-- Empty Hearts-- to release from that album cycle and was excited to start filming for the music video. Empty Hearts was one of his favorite tracks from that record and he was looking forward to talking to different producers and directors to see what each of them would pitch for the video concept.
Alec thinks about it for a minute, before responding, “Yeah. That’ll do it. I should hopefully have at least one damn song by then. Besides, I think that’s the best we’re going to get with them.”
Alec loves Institute Records. He’s been with them since he was sixteen and they’ve always been more than generous to him. However, he is under no illusions that he is anything but a cash cow to them. As soon as the well dries up, so to speak, he will have a pile of problems with them. He’d just better hope that this writer’s block eases up soon.
Alec and Lydia walk into the boardroom and are confronted with half a dozen executives in rigid suits, all in varying shades of navy or black. The label president, Jia Penhallow, is in good spirits and the meeting lasts the standard three hours. Lydia is a shark, always preserving Alec’s interests, and Alec appreciates that she does her job thoroughly and unapologetically. By the end of the meeting, Alec has his demo extension and is set to review potential directors during the first week in July-- roughly three weeks from now. Lydia and he shake hands with everyone before leaving.
Alec takes a deep breath once they’re back on the street and Lydia does the same, unbuttoning the top buttons of her dress shirt and taking her suit jacket off, draping it over her arm.
“Well that was more successful than I was banking on,” Lydia says dryly.
“Yeah, I’m surprised they were so chill about everything.”
Lydia shrugs a little. “Maybe in a rare fit of conscious, they saw that you needed a break from working nonstop. Or, they realized that their number one guy on the roster was burning out and they decided to back off in an effort to help you get your mojo back.”
“Whatever it was, I’m just glad they gave me a reprieve. But, I need to get my ass in gear and start writing some songs worthy of the Lightwood name.”
Digging through her bag for sunglasses, Lydia squints at him. “What about those sessions you’ve planned with Catarina Loss? Do you think those will be fruitful?”
Alec looks down the block, watching as a woman talks rapid-fire into her cell phone and a kid skateboards past, narrowly missing running over an old man. His voice is pensive as he replies.
“I don’t know, Lyd. I think that having the opportunity to write with her will be a huge boon to my career. A definite milestone. I just hope to hell we can write, that I can write something that makes goddamn sense. You’re my agent and my friend so I’ll tell you that I’ve written half a dozen songs in the past few months and they’re all garbage. I don’t know what I want my next album to sound like. I don’t know anything. I might be a little more burnt out than even I thought. I need to get my head in the write space to write-- I just don’t even know what that looks like these days.”
Lydia takes a few steps until she’s at his side and wraps her arm around his waist. Sympathetic, but with a hint of steel in her tone, she says, “I’m sorry you’ve hit a rough patch, Alec, but hopefully you can take some time from this break and regroup. Take a weekend and fly to a place where no one knows your name--” She ignores his snort of disbelief, “-- or try something you’ve never done before. Maybe you just need a change of pace. You’ll get over this. You know you will. You just might have to get inventive and change things up. Creativity never deals well with static. You know that.”
Thinking over what Lydia’s just said, Alec nods along. “You might have a point, I suppose. Maybe I’ll rent a cabin in Tennessee for a few days. Or, I could take a cooking class. Try something new.”
Lydia smiles brightly. “There you go! Something different to jumpstart your brain.”
With a sigh, Alec takes his arm from around her shoulders and steps back, putting distance between them.
“Well, as riveting as this conversation and pep talk was, I need to head uptown. I have that interview with Out in an hour.”
Walking backwards a few steps, Lydia nods. “Alright, then. I’m starving anyway. I need dinner soon or I might just faint.”
She turns sharply on her heel and throws over her shoulder, “Have fun! Don’t say anything that will give me a headache tomorrow morning.”
Alec grins and calls out, “No promises,” before turning and heading in the opposite direction.
His job is never-ending, a constant merry-go-round of concerts, meetings, and interviews. He’s hit a rocky patch right now, but damn if Alec doesn’t love his career, the constant flux, thrives off the hectic schedules. He looks wistfully at a pretzel stand as he strides past and ignores his stomach that’s started growling.
He has places to be and people to impress. Alec is thinking about answers to questions that will no doubt be asked this evening. Alec has been interviewed hundreds of times and they always ask the same questions. He knows his standard answers by rote. It never hurts to run through them again, though. He’s stuck in his head, walking on autopilot to the little cafe the interview is taking place at. He doesn’t notice the man on the other side of the street, walking quickly in the opposite direction.
Magnus doesn’t notice him either, too wrapped up in making it on time to his standing Monday night family dinner with his four favorite people in the entire world. Catarina will kill him if he’s late another week and he does so hate disappointing Madzie.
They're just two busy men among a million in New York City. Yet, they're both resolutely not thinking about the man they met a few nights ago and refuse to acknowledge just how often their thoughts stray to the handsome stranger that enthralled them late into the evening. They don't even notice the wistful sighs and pangs of yearning that escape them.

Welcome to another profile on Behind the Screens, giving you personal insight on who your favorite creators are and what they do when they aren’t wowing you with their creative ability.
Hiya! I’m popping out of my writing cave to share with you the greatness of another artist, Glitter-cake20, also known as Sammy.  You’ve probably seen her awe-inspiring manips, gifs, incorrect quotes, and stories floating around your dashboard. In our talk, she shares her #1 guilty pleasure ship, creates her optimal Teen Wolf Puppy Pack spin-off, and lets us in her creative process.
Sammy! Why don’t we start off simple? Tell us about yourself. The catch: the word count is either to or less than the number of letters in your two favorite Teen Wolf episode names. (ex. Raving + Galvanize = 19)
Memory Found + Smoke and Mirrors = 25
I’m really lazy. I like reading. I’m great at killing zombies on Xbox. I have blood in my coffee stream. I have resting bitch face.
Ooh, what makes these two your favorite?
Memory Found because i feel like that is really where Theo learned to be selfless. He fought with Liam knowing he could get killed or taken, and then later he literally sacrificed himself for a pack that wanted him dead.
Smoke and Mirrors - the entire Mexico trip was great but the part that really stood out in Smoke and Mirrors was when Berserker Scott had Liam pinned to the wall and Liam said “Scott listen! You’re not a monster, you’re a werewolf like me” which parallels to earlier in Season 4 when Scott had said that same thing to Liam. It was just beautiful because it showed how Liam had accepted himself as a werewolf.  Also, Derek evolving was just wow!
And how did you come to the Thiam fandom? What about them drew you in?
You know, I had just created a twitter account and I was just following few accounts for Teen Wolf, kind of just bopping along with all the other popular ships, and then someone made a post about “OMG what was THAT” and I opened the video and it was Theo and Liam making glorious eye contact, and I was never the same again.
What drew me in the most was that Theo was so vulnerable when Liam brought him back. He was once such a badass and now he was suddenly latched on to Liam - just made my heart melt. And Liam is my boy, but he made me so angry when he was mean to Theo! Like no boo, that’s not how Scott raised you!
Lately, there’s been exclamations from our pack about Thiam bleeding into their real lives (like, seeing their relationship in every movie/song or experiencing story plots in real life, etc.), have you felt this sensation recently? If so, in what ways?
Yes!  I was sitting at a coffee shop writing the other day, and this adorable couple walked in. My brain immediately went “That’s Theo and that’s Liam” And I’m like, what is actually wrong with me? And literally every epic movie quote is now about Thiam, I’ve actually done a bunch of edits about that, which I will share for the Thiam Movie Fest.
Omg! That totally happens to me all the time, everywhere!! Since you see Thiam in anything, would you say they’re your #1 guilty pleasure ship? If not, what are your guilty pleasure ships, couples where you don’t care who knew or who disagreed, you ship them regardless?
Oh gosh I’ve had many. Stalia was one.  I really liked the dynamic, in the same breath I was also pining for Stydia. I loved Jethan when that teaser came out.  Briam, although I don’t think anyone would disagree.  Brett and Mason!  And even when Scott and Allison broke up I was like, no but Scallison.  I literally ship anything.
If you could build the ultimate paintball/laser tag team from any five characters on Teen Wolf, who’d be on your team and why? Twist: now, choose one Teen Wolf villain who’d be your secret weapon, provided they don’t double-cross you first, mwhahaha.
Mmm okay…(this actually makes me excited!) So for paintball, first of all I’d choose Corey for his ability to disappear and strike from a position unknown to our opponents. Then I would pick Theo, he’s proven to be quite strategic and cunning in mapping out a plan! Peter, because he just no objection to kicking ass, any time any place. Kira, because she can divert the paintballs with her sword (and yes in my mind they would allow her to take the sword onto the field, shh). Braeden, because she’s just a total badass and I just love her. And for my secret weapon I would choose Jackson so he can paralyze the opposing team with his Kanima venom!! Ha!
Jackson would be a total knockout secret weapon. The game would be over in seconds lol! Let’s jump into your works. Like @da-smiley99, our artist last week, you also create a little bit of it all: drabbles, gifs, manips, and incorrect quotes. For you, which would you say is your favorite art form? How do you balance creating them all?
I really love doing the incorrect quotes, they are fun and I enjoy looking for gifs to match!
Whatever inspiration hits first is what I will do, most of the time its manips/aesthetics that I do for other writer’s work. I love appreciating and promoting what people have created because I know the effort that goes into it. There are still so many works I would like to do an edit for!
If your creative process for these pieces was a person, describe him or her to us. What do they do? Wear? Listen to? How do they handle conflict?
She’s running around in a pink fur coat, stilettos, champagne in hand, chocolates stuffed in her cheek yelling “OH MY GOD!” at everything. I imagine her in a clothing store, the clothes being ideas, and she’s just grabbing everything pilling it onto her arm in a heap, eventually losing her balance and falling over. So when the shop assistant (my family) is like “Mam, you need to calm the hell down” she just runs to the next store, her champagne spilling as she wobbles down the sidewalk in the way-too-high stilettos. She probably listens to Taylor Swift in her pink drop top.
And what’s hers (and your) writing Kryptonite? How do you two battle it?
With regards to writing -I come up with the most amazing and original idea for a story and I manage to write one mind blowing paragraph and then I’m stuck.  That’s why I take so long to create a story, it just takes me forever to get inspired again.  I have a few WIP’s and I don’t know what to do with them!
Creating comes pretty easy and I haven’t had many hiccups while editing. I just suck at making video edits and I honestly wish I was better at it because I have so many ideas! I usually fight writer's block with generous amounts of wine.
If you did become that video-making mastermind, which one of those ideas would you explore first?
I always wanted to do an AU vid of Thiam just living life you know. Id also like to do a “trailer” for these amazing fics that’s been written, kind of like what was done for Airplanes!
I sense a perfect opportunity to practice your videographer skills, mentally, of course! Say you were the Jeff Davis of the Puppy Pack Teen Wolf Spin-Off. Describe your very first and last scene of the pilot episode? How would you put your personal touches on those two scenes?
Personal Touches: A-class lighting because we suffered enough with the ever loving darkness of Teen Wolf.  I’d like to see the characters develop more of a personal style, Liam would probably wear more ‘jock’ outfits as he plays varsity lacrosse now. I’d love to put Theo in shorts for a change, maybe an early morning kitchen scene where he is wearing boxer shorts…okay I’m getting distracted.
Eeek!  Okay so, the Opening scene would be Theo, Liam and Alec running from hunters, Theo has Liam by the arm, he pushes Liam and Alec into his truck and ducks in behind them. They speed off. Then he starts yelling at Liam “Are you crazy, Li?! I’m getting real tired of saving you!” (que fandom freaking because he is calling him “Li” now) and then at Alec “And you! What the hell did we tell you about sneaking out with Liam!?” Liam and Alec are just out of breath trying not to  laugh at Theo. Theo calls Mason to confirm that they are fine.
Closing scene: Liam flops down on the couch in the McCall house, next to Theo (because that’s where he is staying now) “So, uh, thanks for coming to get us today”. “You’re an idiot” but Theo smiles. “How did you find me anyway?” Liam is twiddling his thumbs, “Tracked your scent” Theo gets up abruptly and leaves. Yup it’s going to be a slow burn!
Oooh, and which TW characters would you bring back as cameos or minor characters?
Frikken Danny! I feel like the guy deserved better. So definitely Danny.  I’d make him the supernatural privy teacher at the high school. Brett would also come back -as a ghost haunting Liam, especially when Li gets angry then Brett would just be in the corner jabbing insults at him and the pack would look at him like he’s crazy when he yells at the wall to shut up. Scott would make regular appearances. Deaton, Argent and Melissa would be regulars, and I think a guest appearance by Jackson because for some reason they are going to need a vile of his Kanima venom. Kira’s going to come looking for her sword at one point. And Isaac shows up with Scott a few times.
I agree with you about Danny; we needed more of him! We should petition to get you in the writer’s room because I need your ideas to happen!!
How about gifs/manips specifically? Where does your inspiration for those stem from?
I would think of a scene that I really would have loved to happen and then I try to match it as best I can using existing material. Sometimes i would just be scrolling through gifs and I’d be like “oh wait! This with this is perfect!”
Ooh, up for a quick demonstration? Let’s pick one of your favorite fanfiction scenes lately. Which images/thought processes would stick out to you? Any specific gifs come to mind?
So let’s take Airplanes 28 for example. The scene where Liam is weighing up all his options about how to deal with his feelings and Theo asks what his problem is.  I would use the scene from S6 in the locker room where Liam is punching the locker, it had a few different shots of Liam being frustrated. For Theo’s part I’d use the scene form 6x16 where he actually says ‘what is wrong with you”. Then I just use the app to edit and merge them and voila.
Tumblr media
That’s pretty neat. I didn’t even know you could use apps to mash gifs together! If someone wanted to get started with creating manips/gifs, what advice/steps would you give them?
If you’re doing it from your phone, like me, you have to firstly find the right gif app preferably one that does video to gif and vice versa. There are a few that work really well, so hit me up if you want more detail!  I’m also still learning so if anyone has any suggestions let me know.
We’ve chatted about your art for Thiam. Do you also create outside of the Thiam fandom? Original Fiction/Artwork? Other Fandoms?
I used to write and draw when I was younger, the Thiam fandom actually got me back into all of that! I don’t have any of my earlier writing works anymore but I still have drawings.
Aww, can you remember what you liked to write back then?
It was all fictional stories, mostly horrors! I loved writing scary stories, short or long and I would sometimes freak myself out a bit, especially late at night. I remember the one was about a guy whose car ‘broke down’ on a deserted road and he went looking for help at an old farmhouse and couldn't figure out why the people were so weird towards him, so after a few days he left, walking back down the road and he came across his car completely wrecked, his dead body hanging halfway out the door...he was a ghost haha.
Looking ahead, what’s one piece you’re working on that you’re dying for the pack to see?
Yes! This is a snipped of the AU I’m doing for the Movie fest:
-“That’s him,” Corey said nodding in Theo’s direction “that’s the Judo champ”,
By the time Liam realised he had been staring it was too late, Theo’s head was tilted to the side, an amused grin spread across his face as he looked down slowly at this abdomen and then back up at Liam. There was no reason for Liam to deny that Theo Raeken was gorgeous, that he looked like a demigod in the golden light of the street lamps, but this was not the time for these kinds of thoughts. ‘Get it together Liam’, he shook his head as if to rid his mind of Judo Boy.-
I will also attempt some manips for this piece!
Ooh, intriguing. How dare you stop there! I guess we’ll just have to wait until next week, smh. One final anecdote before we wrap up?
Characters often find themselves in situations they aren’t sure they can get themselves out of. When was the last time you found yourself in situation like that and what did you do?
The PA of our department at work tried to sell me sex toys from this ridiculously expensive catalogue and tried to make me have a sex toy party for my birthday because she would get a free gift and commission for it. First I said, but my friends and family ain’t about that life, and she’s like “No I’ll just invite all my friends it's fine” (to my birthday?? Okay bih). So then I said I’ll think about it hoping she’d forget. She didn’t.  Eventually I told her that I’m not doing anything for my birthday but thanks.
Oh no, she didn’t! It was your birthday smh. You’re stronger than me! Not only would she convince me to throw the party, I’d have bought at least  two things from that freaking catalogue haha! Well, we’re coming to an end, but first, what’s next for you? Both in life and in the creation world?
Career wise I’d like to do a few courses, and really start going into the direction of what I really love, which is anything creative, instead of just doing a 9-5 to pay bills, you know?  So I’m going to look for a way to bring these two worlds together so that I can always do what I love. Fandom wise, I really want to do more writing, explore different characters and ships!
And, we’ll be over here, looking forward to more of your writing! Finally, Is there anything else you’d like to say? The floor is all yours. Dance away!
I hardly get to writing my own ideas so I’m reluctant to say that I'll take prompts for fics and frankly I take so long to write that it will be disappointing, however, if someone has a scenario/idea for an incorrect quote, manip or aesthetic requests, I’m all for it! I would love to do it! Other than that i just want to thank this entire fandom, you guys are keeping this ship sailing and its beautiful! Keep doing what you’re doing!
Aww, thank YOU for writing, creating, and giving us a lens into your world! I’ll be looking forward to the day you gift us with all the Thiam videos haha. From there, we give you Glitter-cake20.
