There’s Something About Ben
(A “There’s Something About Mary” AU)
Anakin’s hands were shaking.
He gripped his cup - one of those ridiculously overpriced styrofoam monstrosities that cost way too much money but was too pretty to resist, especially when one was already a weak, weak man as Anakin Sywalker sometimes was, especially for things with both sparkles and chocolate - in both hands. The prosthetic on his right was always a bit more steady than his left, which meant that it probably wasn’t so much his hands that were shaking but him that was shaking.
He huffed and took a forced sip. The drink was too hot for sure, but he hardly noticed the burn. He was too nervous, too anxious, too -
He looked up when the little bell on the coffee shop door rang and then slumped back in defeat.
Maul was late.
Anakin pulled his phone out of his pocket. The home screen - a picture of him, Ahsoka and Artoo, faces smushed together, each wearing a ridiculous hat - greeted him as he thumbed open the lock. Maul had texted him an hour ago saying he had some emergency news, and Anakin had been out the door in record time, his mind going a million miles an hour with all the possibilities.
He was just about to fire off another text when the bell rang again, and in walked Arthur Maul, private investigator and the man Anakin had hired to help find the long lost love of his life.
Maul wore a black motorcycle jacket and high combat boots, and his face was always perpetually red as though he had been out in the cold. He spotted Anakin and nodded to him, coming over to the little table where Anakin had sequestered himself, throwing down a large duffle bag. He reached out and snagged the coffee from Anakin’s hands and brought it to his nose.
“Ugh, is that peppermint?” He pushed the cup back to Anakin - who held it closer to his chest protectively. “No thanks.”
“I got your message,” Anakin said, trying not to let his impatience shine through.
“Huh? Oh yeah.” Maul leaned over the table and into Anakin’s space.
Anakin fought not to rear back. Maul always smelled terrible, like some unfortunate combination of Axe body spray and Lysol. Anakin made his eyes focus on Maul’s, bloodshot and jaundiced, instead of his odd hairstyle that looked like a badly maintained mohawk.
“I’m retiring.”
Anakin blinked at him, forgetting all out the man’s poor fashion choices. “Excuse me?”
“Yeah, I’ve decided to hang it up and move out West.” Maul gestured to the duffle bag. “I’m leaving tonight.”
Anakin’s mouth dropped open. “But - but what about my case? What about -?”
“See that’s what I wanted to talk to you about. You paid a lot of money for this, and I didn’t want to leave without first giving you my report.”
Anakin’s heart kicked. “So you did find him?“ Maul nodded. Anakin fidgeted, his chest filling with all sorts of emotions that couldn’t be named. He took a bracing sip of coffee. “How…how is he doing?”
“Not too bad,” Maul said, and Anakin sighed in relief. Until Maul added, “He looks pretty good for a guy who just got out of prison.”
Anakin choked.
“Prison?” he coughed.
“Mmhmm.” Maul leaned back in his chair, drumming his fingers on the tabletop. “They have him wearing one of those big ugly ankle monitors. You know the ones? Frankly, I’m not sure what damage they think a guy with only one leg can do, but what do I know.”
Anakin was lightheaded. “He has one leg? What happened?”
Maul shrugged. “I didn’t ask. Probably something to do with the drugs.”
“There are drugs?”
“Oh yeah. Your boyfriend got himself mixed up in all kinds of trouble. I was surprised they let him out of prison at all, but apparently the judge had a soft spot for guys with early onset male pattern baldness.”
Bald. Obi-Wan was bald? For some reason, Anakin couldn’t reconcile this in his mind with the image he’d been carrying all these years. Obi-Wan always had such beautiful hair - long and thick and the more gorgeous color, like burnished copper.
But he supposed that it wasn’t that uncommon for men to go bald in their twenties. And he never really cared about looks anyway. He glanced down at his hand and thought about the scar that now bisected half his face. A lot had happened, to both of them, it sounded like.
Anakin sighed and set his shoulders. “I’d still like to see him,” he said deteriminedly. “I - maybe I can help him.” He could try, at least.
Maul frowned at him and raised an eyebrow. He sighed dramatically, leaning further into Anakin’s space.
“Look kid. You seem real nice so I’m going to give you some advice.” He ignored Anakin’s scowl. “You’re young. You’ve got your whole life ahead of you. Don’t spend it thinking about some guy who probably doesn’t even remember you exist.” His mouth twitched a bit at the corners and he sat back, satisfied, as Anakin’s face fell.
I’m twenty nine year’s old, he thought. It had been fifteen years, and Anakin Skywalker had never stopped thinking about Obi-Wan “Ben” Jinn.
(Spoiler alert: Obi-Wan does not have any of those things lol.)
(Maybe I’ll add more - this was fun!)

attempt #37
This was the 52nd formula that Lena had come up with, the 45th solution that she had to wait several hours to synthesize, but only the 37th time she was injecting her shoulder with the resulting concoction.
It was bright green this time, which only made it seem all the more promising.
There’s a rush and some mild nausea that Lena had come to expect with the experiments, but everything else felt the same. For now. Setting the syringe aside, Lena called out, “Hope, think of a number between one and a million.”
Then, for the 37th time, Lena tried. She cleared her own mind, practiced the meditative mantras, stared intently into Eve’s eyes, bright blue yet blank with Hope’s quiet disinterest, and... nothing. Not a single digit came to mind.
No matter how hard Lena tried, the only thoughts in her head were her own.
With an exasperated sigh, Lena rolled her sleeve back down and directed Hope to log their latest attempt as yet another failure before storming off to start her day.
//
Lena emerged from the laboratory with wrinkled clothes and dark circles sunken around her eyes, which was probably why the first thing she heard as she stepped out of the elevator was her personal assistant’s hushed commentary of, Oh sweet Jesus, she looks tired.
“Oh, I’m well aware, Hector,” Lena said, lofty and without much malice. “Nothing a little coffee can’t fix though.”
Hector stared at her blankly. “I’m sorry, Miss Luthor?”
“Never mind,” Lena said, rolling her eyes. She took the outstretched coffee in question as she walked by the assistant’s desk. “Just hold all my calls until the afternoon, please.”
This time, when Hector grumbled under his breath about wow, she must be grumpy too, Lena ignored it. There were better things for the CEO to tackle, after all; as for example, some fitful sleep on her couch, perhaps?
Hours later, Lena was relatively well-rested, so she pored over her notes again, trying to pinpoint the exact variable she must have overlooked in her carelessness. Because by all accounts, the formula should have worked—Lena had been certain of it. But then again, she’d admittedly thought that of almost every attempt thus far.
When Hector walked into her office at some point in the late afternoon with a handful of contracts to be signed, Lena felt no closer to the solution and a slight headache coming on.
“Is there anything else I can help you with?”
“Another coffee would be great,” Lena said, as she sifted through the documents.
“Oh my God, if she takes in any more caffeine, her heart’s going to literally explode...” Hector muttered to himself. “Well, maybe she won’t notice if I get her decaf instead...?”
Lena dropped the papers onto her desk with a scoff. “You know I can hear you, right?”
Hector appeared startled, which seemed rather appropriate until he slowly said, “So... was that a yes on the espresso?”
“What?”
Hector maintained his slow cadence, carefully enunciating every syllable as if he were repeating himself, “Did you want to stick with your usual order... or maybe go with an espresso... because it’s a little stronger?”
But in a normal cadence, also in Hector’s voice and somehow clear as a bell in Lena’s head came, “If this woman doesn’t get another nap in pronto, she is going to drop dead, and everyone’s going to think I poisoned her coffee, because she’s always in—”
Absolutely stunned, Lena continued to stare up at Hector in silence, eyes narrowing as the assistant’s slightly panicked voice droned on and on in her head. Until a louder remark broke through the reverie.
“Whoa, did she just fall asleep with her eyes open?”
Lena blinked quite obviously, and her mild shock was accompanied with a loud and clear, yet unspoken Oh, thank God! from Hector.
But the Hector standing before her hadn’t moved his lips once, only watching the bewilderment play out on Lena’s face with some polite concern.
“The usual’s fine,” Lena interjected before her assistant could press again. “Or the espresso, or whatever. I don’t care, as long as it’s still hot and caffeinated.”
“You got it,” Hector said.
“Definitely getting her decaf,” Hector thought as he turned to leave, but Lena hardly minded. She was too busy restructuring the rest of her day around this most exciting realization.
After some quick bit of arithmetic in her head, Lena set a timer on her watch for five hours, which was presumably the amount of time it would take for her body to break down the serum and render it useless. Then she logged on to her private interface and happily directed Hope to re-record attempt #37 as a success.
//
The ability to read minds was, quite simply, quite the advantage.
Though it wasn’t so much “mind-reading,” as mind-receiving. The serum seemed to have granted Lena access to the loud and active thought processes of everyone around her—their inner monologue, if you will, everything put into words but left unsaid.
Lena had been hoping for more, to be able to break into other people’s minds so as to hack secrets, determine why supposed close friends would ever betray her, and the like. Maybe that would come with time and practice.
But as it turned out, there was rather plenty to be gleaned from the forefront of someone’s mind, as people often thought about the things they weren’t supposed to say before choosing more palatable means of expression. Which made the rest of Lena’s workday somewhat informative, if not a little fun.
For one thing, Lena found out that a lot more of her employees enjoyed working for her than she had thought. All of them respected her, several feared her, and quite a fair few entertained invasive thoughts about her décolletage before swiftly directing their attention elsewhere.
She also found out there was one board member in particular who liked to fudge the numbers during meetings, and that his face took on a very unappealing shade of off-white when Lena could inexplicably confront him with the actual results of his findings.
But most importantly of all, what Lena found out was that... she actually enjoyed this heretofore inaccessible sense of control this ability afforded her. She had taken on the experiments for a very specific purpose, but now, it was difficult to even imagine going back to how things were, even after the fact.
//
Lena walked into the DEO, and for the first time, the outpouring of distrust attached to the Luthor name was all but imagined. The disparaging thoughts followed her, even as the people who had them smiled or averted their eyes as she passed.
Nothing she wasn’t used to though.
Alex’s voice slid into Lena’s head in a whisper—... the hell?—one whole minute before she actually greeted her, “Lena, hey... Well, can’t say that I was expecting you.”
“Yes, that’s what it sounds like,” Lena mused, and Alex gave her a slight frown.
“So, did you need something?”
“Where’s Kara? I want to talk to her.”
Alex’s carefully composed face betrayed no emotion, but her thoughts sighed heavily, “Of course...” before ebbing away into something entirely indistinct and indecipherable.
Lena blinked. She hadn’t encountered anyone whose thoughts weren’t immediately accessible to her before. But here Alex was, giving directions to Kara’s current whereabouts, all the while muttering some underlying commentary in tones so hushed that Lena couldn’t quite make out any of it.
“... Is there something on my face?” Alex swiped her sleeve across her forehead. “What are you looking at?”
“What? No, nothing,” Lena said brusquely. “Thank you for telling me where Kara is. Bye.” She turned on her heel, headed for the hallway that would eventually lead to the training room.
“Well, that was weird...” Alex’s voice drifted after her, a literal afterthought. “But I mean, I guess she has a nice ass, so—”
Lena shot a dirty look over her shoulder, but Alex was already back on her computer, mind rattling off coordinates and running through tactical drills like a well-oiled machine.
//
Kara was wearing short shorts and a sports bra, panting, and absolutely drenched in sweat when Lena stepped foot into the training room. She looked over at Lena, her skin glistening against the dimmed green of the kryptonite-lined walls, and smiled wide.
“Oh, hey! What are you doing here?” Kara asked, giving the punching bag one last jab before tugging her gloves off. "Did something happen or...? I mean, not that I’m not happy to see you, of course.” She flashed Lena another bright grin before pressing a towel to her face and neck and chest.
It was enough to stop Lena in her tracks, and almost enough to put a damper on her plans. Almost.
“I need to talk to you,” Lena said evenly, eyes glued firmly to Kara’s forehead.
“Yeah, sure! Jeez... I’d give you a hug, but I’m like sweating in places I didn’t even know existed. Alex says that this is the only way to learn proper form and all, but wow. I can’t believe there are humans who actually do this for fun—”
“Kara,” Lena cut in, lips pursing in exasperation. “I’m serious. We need to talk right now.”
Kara blinked, then slowly nodded. “Okay, yeah, let’s talk... You wanna sit down?”
“I prefer to be standing.”
“Okay.” Kara remained standing as well, towel now crumpled in her hands. “So, what’s going on?”
Lena took a deep breath, quickly running through the meditative techniques meant to keep her mind clear and open, then asked, “Why did it take you so long to tell me that you’re Supergirl?”
Kara’s shoulders slumped. “Lena, I...”
“No, why did it take three years? Why didn’t you trust me?” Lena continued, her pace steady and firm just like she had practiced. “I trusted you. I trusted you with every part of me, which is extremely difficult for me to do, and you just... didn’t care, I guess.”
“Of course, I care. Lena... I never meant to hurt you,” Kara said insistently. Her voice was loud, emphatic, and at the moment, the only thing Lena could hear.
“Don’t!” Lena snapped when Kara started to approach her. “Don’t come any closer. And stop talking! Just listen.”
Kara exhaled sharply through her nose and raised her hands in tentative surrender in absolute, utter silence. Lena even paused for a beat or two, just to see if any of Kara’s thoughts would breach the surface, but none did.
“Why couldn’t you just trust me, Kara?” Lena asked, and regrettably her voice trembled on the last syllable. “Why did I have to hear it from Lex?”
Kara’s eyes widened. “Lex? Lex told you before I did?”
“Shut up. Do not talk,” Lena hissed out, waiting for Kara to snap her jaw shut before continuing with a bitter laugh, “Do you, do you even trust me now...?” Kara stared, gaze hardening. “And how do you expect me to trust anything you have to say for yourself now?”
Lena’s questions—all of the above and beyond—were met with silence, strained only by the sound of Kara’s heavy breath and Lena’s own thoughts.
Scoffing, Lena threw up her hands. “Do you even care that you hurt me?”
“... Can I talk now?” Kara demanded, seething like she had any right to it. But when Lena shook her head furiously, she held her tongue and apparently everything else as well, because Lena couldn’t hear a single damn thing.
When the alarm on her watch went off, Lena left, slamming the door on her way out. She contacted Hope through their private channel and had her re-log attempt #37 as just another failure.
Back to the fucking drawing board.

Tumblr media
Ch. 5
The next morning, you found yourself thinking of him as you woke up. You picked up your phone and dialed his number.
“Hey Eraser. You around today?”
“Of course. I’ll make my self around for you.”
His deep voice made you shutter. God, he was such a flirt. Maybe he just does this to all women, or men, or anyone. Maybe he just does it to be an ass.
“I’m working again tonight if you and Hizashi want to come by later.” You offered.
“We’ll come before patrolling tonight this time so we don’t end up ditching you again.” You could practically hear him wink.
“Okay, well we don’t open until 6pm”
“That’s alright, we don’t patrol till 11 tonight anyway.”
“Damn that sucks. You really have no time to sleep.”
“Yeah…I only really sleep in between school and patrol…if you don’t count my naps in class,” he mumbled.
You giggled, “So you usually sleep around the time you’re going to come to the bar then? Will you be okay?”
“Oh yeah I’m always tired. It’s okay. I’ll have someone do a presentation in class tomorrow while I sleep.”
“HAH is that what thats for?”
“Absolutely, I don’t really trust anyone else to teach my kids for me.”
Somehow that seemed kind of sweet. Maybe recovery girl was right, he is a softy.
“So you really like teaching then?”
“Oh absolutely not.”
You cracked up. You could tell he was beaming on the other side of the phone.
“Well maybe I’ll get to hear about it tonight then.”
“We’ll see.” He brings back that playfulness again.
“I’ll talk to you later, Eraser.”
“Please, call me Shouta”
“Alright, Shouta, see you later tonight.”
“See you tonight, y/n.”
The sound of his voice saying your name made you feel warm.
~~~~~~
The evening came and you made your way to the bar. You flipped the sign over for the nth time in your life, and couple minutes later Hizashi and Shouta showed up followed by another woman.
She was tall with legs for days, dark hair down to her ass and was wearing a skin tight suit, visually differed quite a bit from the two men. She’s intimidatingly attractive and has a sultry look on her face. You couldn’t tell if you want to fuck her or be her.
“HEYYY y/n!!! This place is NEAT. Hope it’s okay that we brought a friend, she’s a hero too. Her name is Midnight.”
“So you guys travel in packs?” You joke.
Hizashi laughed loud and hard and smacked his knee. The other two chuckled and Shouta plugged his ear that was closest to Hizashi with his finger. You turned to Midnight.
“Nice to meet you Midnight, I’m y/n.” You held your hand out to shake.
“Please, call me Nemuri. Or anything you’d like, I’ll listen to you call me whatever you want-“ you blushed she turned your hand and pulled it to her to kiss it -
Shouta’s hand flew in and smacked Nemuris away. He rolled his eyes “Nemuri, keep yourself off of her please.” He looked even more tired that usual somehow.
“Oh I’m sure she doesn’t mind…” she winked at you, then leaned over to Hizashi. “Did you already call dibs or something?” She tries to ask him quietly. Hizashi opens his mouth to speak but is interrupted.
“Nemuri. She is a person.” Shouta breathed.
You giggle at their back and forth and change the subject, “What would you guys like to drink?”
Hizashi got some sort of fruity drink and Nemuri copied him. They had halfway downed it before you got to Shouta. Shouta said he didn’t need anything.
“Shouta come on, just because you were a shit last time doesnt mean you can’t have something today” you teased.
“LAST TIME?” Hizashi exclaimed.
“Oh so YOU called dibs.” Nemuri deduced looking at Shouta.
Shouta looked at them surprised and shrunk down in his seat, blush across his face. He was so shy around everyone else it was surprising he said so much to you.
“He showed up the other night and made himself a drink, it was pretty funny.” You told them.
They both turned to him with their jaws on the floor. He deserved this. You got put on the spot multiple times the other day and covered for him, so he could take a little teasing from his friends tonight.
“Daaaaamn Eraser, that’s bold!” Hizashi said.
As they were relentlessly teasing him, you looked over to Shouta and tried to determine what kind of drink he may like. Probably something with coffee in it for tonight.
You made him a White Russian and slid it over to him with a smirk. He mouthed a ‘thank you’ as they continued to berate him. You kept working as a couple other customers were in the bar, but the bar was never busy, especially on a cold night like this.
They spend time joking around and teasing, inviting you into conversation whenever there was a lull in work to do. They drank a few drinks and ended with some waters, paid out their tab and tipped generously.
“We gotta do this again sometime, y/n!” Nemuri says.
“Yeah next time let’s go somewhere where you don’t have to work!” Hizashi adds.
“See ya around” Shouta breathed as all three of them walked out.
You finished your shift at around 4am, later than usual but there were a few people hanging around late and you didn’t mind since you didn’t work the next day. You closed up, cleaned up, and went out the back door to walk home. You heard a voice from nowhere.
“Could I walk you home?” In the distance, Shouta emerged from the shadows. You jumped, it had reminded you of the night when you met and that villain attacked you.
“Shit Shouta…you scared the shit out of me…” You tried to calm down but your body disobeyed you and you started shaking.
“Heh I didn’t think I was that scary-“ He stopped and noticed your behavior. “Are you okay…?” He made his way towards you cautiously and gently.
“I….no…I don’t know...” your face went hot and tears stung your eyes. You sat on the ground to get your bearings. Your stomach twisted. Shouta ran over to you as you fell.
“Can I…?” He held his hands near each of your shoulders to ask permission to touch you but you nodded before he could even finish asking. He put his hands on either side of you and rubbed your arms up and down slowly, “it’s okay….everything is okay… I’m so sorry.”
You sat on the ground with your arms wrapped around yourself and tried to steady your breathing.
He pleaded. “Can I do anything to help? Do you want me to shut up?”
You shook your head no at both questions. He was actually helping just a little. It’d been a long time since you’d had a panic attack.
As you both sat on the ground outside the back of the bar in the dim light for a few minutes, he continued to soothe you with his words and held you in his arms.
After some time you calmed down a little and were able to speak, “We need to put a bell on you or something.”
He chuckled and gave you a pitiful smile. “I can live with that... What’s going on, do you want to talk about it?” He said as he pushed a hair away from your face.
You shake your head no, “I’m okay…thank you for taking care of me.”
“Of course, it’s my job.” he winked.
“No it’s not.”
“No…it’s not. But I’ll do it anyway. Can I please give you a walk home?” He asked.
You appreciated that he asked to just walk with you rather than assuming or asking if you wanted assistance. Of course you didn’t want it, you didn’t want it to be necessary. But unfortunately it was as you had seen before.
“Yes please.”
He stood and held out his arms out to you to help you up.
“Are you good to walk?”
“Yeah… I think I’m fine.”
You started to walk home in still silence for a few minutes.
“…I thought you were on patrol? That’s not a long shift,” you asked.
“Hizashi and I overlap…and…I was worried about you.”
“What happened to ‘seems like you could handle it’?”
“You shouldn’t have to handle it.”
Damn. He actually listened to you.
“I…thank you.” You said.
“Anytime.” He offered. His voice was so pure and caring you could melt.
As you made it back to your house, he walked you to the door.
“We’ll have to do this again sometime. Well not …this specifically..just like-“
You laughed “I get it, Shouta.” He smiled.
On the porch, you gazed at each other softly for a moment, and somehow it wasn’t awkward. You realized that you want to kiss him. Badly.
“I…uh…” not knowing what to say, you just moved forward to lean against his chest and kiss him. Slow enough that he could step back if he didn’t want to, but, he didn’t step back.
He kissed very gently. His lips were slightly chapped but soft, and his stubble grazed against your chin. He reached up slowly to hold your face in his hand, resting his thumb on your jaw. You eventually pulled away.
He hummed. “…I’ve been wanting to do that for a while,” he admitted, blushing and looking away.
“Do you want to come inside?” You said, turning and putting your keys in the lock. ‘Maybe I could’ve worded that differently’ you thought.
“I would, but ….I think you’re a little too fragile tonight. I don’t want to take advantage of your emotions like that. Maybe another night if you still want me to? Sorry if that’s….rude.”
“Thank you, Shouta.” You beamed.
“What did I do?” He sounded excited to have done some good.
“You’re just…sweet.”
He blushed and hummed happily.
“I’ll see you around, y/n. Call me if you need anything.”
“Goodnight Shouta.”
“Goodnight.”
cotton candy skies (and the sweetness of your love)
carlos finally sought out his parents and told them about his relationship with tk. it doesn’t go quite like he expected and so he finds tk immediately after.
here we go lads, 2.8k of fluff coming right at you. i’ve wanted it to be mostly carlos centric but there is some tk pov in the beginning too. no trigger warning for this one but stay safe everyone. <3
ao3 link if you wanna say hi.
a forever with you
wouldn't nearly be enough
to quench the flames
you continue to rekindle in me
It's been a couple of weeks since their fight and TK can tell that it still lies heavily on Carlos' mind. While TK feels like it has brought them closer together, he finds Carlos staring off into space more recently. Sometimes he would look at TK with a hint of guilt and shame in his eyes and TK would need to assure him that it's okay, they've moved past it. Carlos would nod and kiss him but the weight on his shoulders would not lift one bit. It's frustrating, TK wants nothing more than to ease the tension in his body and help him carry the weight, but TK promised Carlos he would be patient and he's fully intent on keeping his promise.
It comes as a bit of a surprise to him when Carlos shows up at the firehouse towards the end of his shift, unannounced. TK is currently sitting at the table, nursing a mineral water and talking to Marjan about the call they've just responded to when Paul's excited exclamation echoes through the otherwise quiet firehouse.
"Reyes!" He calls, "Long time no see."
TK turns at just the right moment and as Carlos comes into view, a kind smile on his lips, TK can't stop his own from splitting into a grin. Paul's right though, Carlos hasn't been around as much as he used to because of the many hours he's currently working. TK has tried to talk him into taking a few days off but so far Carlos has refused, seemingly needing the distraction his job provides. It makes TK worry but he really tries not to push him too far, he trusts that Carlos will come to him if he's ready.
"Good to see you too, Strickland," TK hears Carlos laugh, watching as he leans in for a hug, "Work's been crazy lately, you know how it is."
"Don't have to tell me," Paul replies as they break apart, "Just make sure you're taking care of yourself, alright?"
Carlos' face softens and TK feels his heart clench in his chest. It's not surprising that Paul immediately knows something's been bothering Carlos but it leaves TK a bit unsettled anyway.
"Your boy's in there, by the way," Paul adds and TK shakes himself out of his thoughts. He watches as Carlos' eyes follow Paul's gesture and when their eyes meet, Carlos' smile settles. He tilts his head in a quick movement, asking TK to meet him outside, and TK is out of his seat before he can start overthinking Carlos' intentions. He jogs up to him, throwing a glance in Paul's direction but Paul has already turned back to his task.
"Hey," TK exclaims, a little breathless.
"Hi," Carlos echoes, "You got a minute? There's something I need to talk to you about."
"Sure," he responds with a grin although he can't help but feel a little anxious, "You have until the bell rings."
Carlos nods in understanding and turns half a step, walking back out of the firehouse. TK can feel the gazes of his team boring into his back but he takes a deep breath and follows Carlos outside.
"You okay?" TK asks when he comes to a stop next to Carlos, reaching out a hand to gently touch his wrist, watching him carefully. Carlos' hands are stuffed into his pockets, eyes locked into the distance to the left side of TK and he follows his gaze, quickly realising what has Carlos so transfixed: The sun is setting over the hills, only a few rays of sunshine are left to peek through the buildings, and the clouds are tinted in a soft pink colour that reminds TK of cotton candy. It makes his gut tingle with warmth.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" He breathes out with a smile.
"Yeah."
TK turns to look at Carlos and finds him already looking at him, sporting a smile so soft, TK recognises it as the smile Carlos has reserved for him only. It makes his own smile widen and the anxiety that has previously made him breathless dissipates.
"You're a sap," TK says and Carlos just shrugs, reaching for TK's hand to pull him close against his side, needing the comfort. He takes a moment to look at TK and the way he tilts his head as he regards Carlos a little sceptically. He raises his brow, biting the inside of his cheek while he does so and Carlos finds it absolutely endearing. The pink sky behind him illuminates his face in a soft, warm glow and something about the light makes the green in his eyes pop out more than usual. He's beautiful and Carlos wishes he could freeze time so he could look at him forever. TK lets him have his fill, Carlos is surprised by how long he lets him stare, but after a while he starts fidgeting.
"Not that I don't love being the centre of your attention," he confesses, tilting his head down in slight embarrassment, "but you are kind of freaking me out right now."
"Sorry," Carlos laughs, enamored by the colour on TK's cheeks. His gaze drifts back towards the skyline and the weight of what happened today catches up on him again. The smile falls from his face as his muscles tense and the hand that still holds onto TK squeezes involuntarily.
"Carlos, baby, what's wrong?" TK reaches out with the hand that isn't clutched in Carlos' and squeezes where his neck meets his shoulder, just now noticing how rigid Carlos is.
"I love you a whole lot," Carlos says slowly, calculated, as his focus turns back to TK, "you know that right?"
It takes TK a bit off guard if he's honest. They haven't said the words in a while but TK knows, he's always known. Carlos wears his heart on his sleeve and there's not a day that goes by where Carlos doesn't show him how loved he is.
"Of course," TK tells him and now he's worried. He presses himself to Carlos' side, if to comfort Carlos or himself, he isn't sure, and plants a soft kiss to his shoulder. He looks up at him, searching his face, but as his hand slides down to curl around his elbow, Carlos looks away again. TK notices the tension in his jaw but the way his chest deeply expands with each breath tells TK that Carlos isn't as upset as he initially thought he was. It feels more like he's trying to order his thoughts, desperately searching for something he can't find, something he can no longer make sense of.
"I visited my parents today," Carlos finally explains and TK's heart skips a beat, squeezing his arm in silent support.
"I told them I lied. I told them that the handsome guy they met at the market a while back wasn't my friend from work but the love of my life."
Carlos can feel the way TK's breath hitches from how close he stands and it makes him hide a smile. He turns to look at him and watches TK as he opens and closes his mouth, visibly fumbling to assemble his thoughts. Carlos knows exactly what he's thinking. Love of his life?
"And how do-- how did they react?" TK finally gets out, swallowing heavily.
"They were calm," Carlos replies, "Surprised. I think they didn't know what to say at first, but after a few minutes of awkward silence my mom started asking about you and the how's and when's of our relationship." He shrugs, a futile attempt to appear nonchalant, but TK can see right through him. The anxiety of that talk probably still lingers.
"And then she asked me if I was happy."
"Oh," TK mutters and it sounds a little self-conscious, "What did you say?"
"The truth," he replies, eager to erase TK's doubts, "that you make me the happiest man on earth. That when you walked out on me a month ago, it felt like my heart was torn into a million pieces and that that day, I swore to myself to never make you doubt your place in my life ever again."
Carlos can clearly see the impact his words have on TK and he realises he should've been more open with him. He knows he has turned into himself lately, knows he has tried really hard to hide himself and his feelings away. But the terror he had felt upon the prospect of his parents finding out about TK and their relationship and disapproving of it, has been weighing heavily on him. He doesn't know why he's been so scared, he knows he would survive his parents' rejection, but to Carlos, there's nothing more important than family. And despite the fact that he's a grown man with a secure job and stable relationships, he can't imagine not having his parents' house to return to and seek shelter in if his world starts collapsing. When it comes to his mother, he will always be the soft little guy with too many fears, desperate for a comforting touch or reassuring words. He just can't help it.
"Carlos," TK pulls him out of his own head and he hurries to order his thoughts. There's something else he needs to get out, a confession that has changed his life completely.
"But you know what my mom did?"
TK shakes his head.
"She took my hand and said she was glad I had somebody who loves me. She said she was sorry for how they reacted all those years ago, that they figured by simply acting like it wasn't a big deal, like it didn't change anything, they would do me a favour."
Carlos chokes on his words, willing away the tears that threaten to spill, and holds onto TK a little stronger. TK presses another kiss to his shoulder, resting his cheek against Carlos and rubbing circles into his arm. He doesn't know why he's getting so emotional now, this is even about him.
"You know what else she said?" Carlos asks.
"Hm?"
"She said couldn't wait to properly meet you."
TK's eyes widen in surprise and something about the huge smile that's now gracing Carlos' lips, makes him choke on his own tears as well. Carlos reaches for him then, tilting TK's head up for a kiss, and TK all but melts into him.
"So wait," he mumbles between kisses, "You do want me to meet your parents now right?"
Carlos laughs again, shaking his head in fond exasperation. "Of course I want you to meet my parents."
"Ok, ok," TK says and winds his arms around Carlos' neck, "just making sure."
He kisses him again, feverishly so, and when TK pulls back to look at him, Carlos isn't yet ready to let go. He coaxes TK into another kiss and then another and another until he's breathless with it all.
"I'm so proud of you," TK whispers when they finally break apart, gently cupping Carlos' face in his hands, and the noise Carlos makes in response sounds a little pained. Carlos curses silently as he can't help the tears that we'll up in his eyes again. Today has been one hell of a roller coaster ride.
"You are so fucking brave," TK adds, not allowing Carlos to look away even for a second, and as he raises on his tiptoes to press a series of soft pecks onto Carlos' cheeks, Carlos finally loses the tension in his shoulders. He lets himself be tugged into a hug, his arms winding across TK's back to pull him closer and he allows himself to calm. He pulls back after a while, the urge to see TK too strong to ignore, and when TK smiles at him gleefully, Carlos knows he’s going to be okay. Right here with TK in his arms, he feels safe.
"I love you," TK tells him, his hands resting against the back of Carlos' neck and Carlos has to kiss him for it. It's probably wildly inappropriate, standing outside the firehouse wrapped around each other like that, but Carlos doesn't care, he only has one priority and that's kissing TK. Judging by the way TK holds onto him and reciprocates the kiss, Carlos doesn't think he minds either. He does eventually break the kiss, much to TK's dismay, but only because there's more he needs to say.
He takes another moment to look at TK, it seems that he can't stop staring at him today, and the flush shining high on his cheekbones makes Carlos' stomach flutter. His eyes are wide with joy, his lips red and puffy and he looks so god damn perfect, Carlos cannot wait to take him home and show him how utterly loved he is. He reaches up a hand and cups his jaw, pressing another longing kiss to his lips that leaves TK chasing after him with eyes still closed. Carlos presses his thumb to TK's bottom lip, applying gentle pressure, and he watches mesmerized as TK swallows, his eyes fluttering open with a gasp.
"Move in with me," Carlos says and the way TK's brows raise almost comically makes him stifle a laugh.
"What?" TK responds confusedly.
"You heard me. Move in with me, Ty."
TK studies him for a few seconds, probably debating whether he's understood Carlos correctly and what comes out of his mouth is exactly what Carlos had expected.
"Are you sure about this?" He asks, a hint of excitement glinting behind the insecurity in his eyes but Carlos knows he needs more reassurance than that.
"Sure about wanting you to come home to me every day? Absolutely."
"And you're not just saying that because I've complained about my parents so much lately?"
Carlos huffs out a laugh, gently squeezing TK's hip.
"Look, of course I want you to have a safe space to retreat to when things get difficult with your parents but it's not just that."
TK's lips twitch into a smile and Carlos has to force himself not to kiss him again because if he did, he's not sure he could make himself stop. There's just something about the way TK looks at him that lights a fire in his chest.
"I miss you when you're not around," Carlos explains, his voice dropping low with emotion, "the house is far too quiet and the bed far too cold without you there. You already occupy so much space in my heart, it's only reasonable you occupy space in my home, hopefully our home, too."
TK lets out a watery laugh, biting his bottom lip in an attempt to hold the tears at bay.
"That was so damn cheesy," he says and Carlos fears if he smiles any harder, he's going to tear his face apart. There's not a hint of nervousness in Carlos, he already knows what TK's answer is going to be.
"Well did it work?" He asks anyway, his own smile hurting his cheeks.
TK squints at him, pretending to think it over, but he's far too happy to be a little shit about it for long.
"Yeah," he replies softly, genuinely, "I love you, Carlos, more than I ever thought possible and I hope you know that you make me really happy too. So yes, I'd love to move in with you."
Carlos leans down and kisses him but their smiles are too wide for it to be a proper kiss.
"You know I would offer you a key in a grand romantic gesture but you already have one."
TK makes a snorting sound, shaking his head in amusement.
"So no grand romantic gestures for me?"
Carlos' smile turns soft then, images of a shared future appearing in his head and they look as beautiful as cotton candy skies.
"Not this time, no."
TK wriggles his eyebrows knowingly and it makes Carlos blush, but his smile changes as well. It's sweeter now, his eyes mirroring what Carlos feels, and sometimes Carlos wonders what he did to deserve a love this special.
"This time, huh?" TK asks, and the roughness of his voice masks the humour in his response, "Are you already planning a proper one then?"
Carlos just shrugs and secures his hold on TK, but it's not like he ever plans on letting go anyway.
"Maybe."
TK launches himself at him, pulling Carlos into another earth-shattering, toe-curling, breath-stealing kiss, and as the sun fully sets behind them, the sky now a warm orange, something in Carlos settles. Marriage is not something that is going to happen in the near future, they both know, but if Carlos is already making a mental checklist of everything he needs for the perfect proposal, TK doesn't have to know.
Let No Man Steal Your Thyme - Chapter Eight (sfw)
I hope those few of you who follow this blog even remember this story!! It's being posted on here as a WIP, so technically you're all my beta readers :). Sorry it's taking so long to work through, but I'm really busy with other writing work, plus actual work, and some life stuff, but it's not abandoned!
In this chapter, which is a bit of a filler chapter, Hermione gets a pleasant surprise visit at the Kneazel and Quill, and she learns what Draco is doing with himself all day at the Manor, and why he has the hands of a potion master. Meanwhile Draco is quietly freaking out about what Scorpius will think of his kindling relationship with one third of the legendary Golden Trio...
As always, looking forward to hearing your reactions and thoughts!
Part One | Part Two | Part Three | Part Four | Part Five | Part Six (nsfw), Part Seven (nsfw)
___
The bell above the door of the Kneazel and Quill jangled, and Hermione looked up to see a very familiar figure wearing practical, Muggle clothes, and a tired but genuine smile.
“Harry!” she shrieked in delight, rising and scuttling around the desk. “When did you get back? I thought you were on assignment in Sweden til —”
He raised his eyebrows. “Wednesday? It’s Wednesday today, Hermione.”
“So it is,” she laughed, and pulled him into a hug. “Cup of tea? You look wiped out.”
“I’m only staying if you’ve got custard creams…”
She snorted. “I must have known I’d need them — I stopped at the Tesco Express on my way in this morning.”
“Maybe Professor Trelawney was wrong about you and ‘the sight’ after all?” Harry grinned and she shook her head, curls bouncing everywhere for want of a hair-tie.
Seated in the cramped back room of her second hand bookshop, Harry looked at her and cocked his head slightly to the side.
“What?” she asked, dunking a biscuit into her tea.
Quietly, Harry said, “There’s something different about you.”
“No there isn’t,” she retorted, scoffing her custard cream down and reaching for another. “I’m the same washed up old hag I’ve always been. Now, tell me about Gothenburg! I’ve wanted to go back ever since we went there for that conference — must be, ooh, what, twelve years ago now? Gods, how time flies.”
“Ok, first of all, you’re nothing like a ‘washed up old hag’, so don’t you dare talk about yourself like that, and secondly, Gothenburg was amazing.”
She smiled, and let him tell her what he could about his assignment.
“Bet Ginny’s glad to have you back,” she said.
Harry’s face shifted into what Hermione called her favourite ‘Harry being soppy for his wife’ expression, and he flushed. “Yeah, probably. Apparently Lily’s been flying around the garden at Grimmauld and it’s giving Ginny kneazles. Lily’s been pretending to be the next seeker for the Harpies or something…” Raking his hand through his messy hair, he sighed. “Who’d have ever thought I’d be sitting in your bookshop, talking about my daughter learning to fly, eh?”
She smiled, but Harry’s expression cracked a little.
“Sorry,” he mumbled.
Hermione scowled fondly and reached across to take his hand in hers. “Harry… we’ve been over this a thousand times.”
“I know. I just…” he drew in a long inhale and then said, “So are you going to tell me what’s changed in your life since I’ve been away? You’re practically glowing. Did you meet someone?”
Hermione bit her lip and drew back, cheeks heating damnably.
“You did? Who is it? Do I know them?”
“Yes,” she said carefully. “You do. But if I tell you who it is, I need you to…” she puffed out her cheeks and finished off in a rush, “I need you to promise not to freak out first of all, and then promise you won’t tell a soul. Not even Ginny just yet, ok? It’s really important.”
Harry looked wary and worried at that.
Taking one more breath for courage, she said quietly, “It’s Draco Malfoy.”
For a moment, Harry fell utterly still, his green eyes wide and disbelieving. He looked like he was expecting Fred and George to pop out of the bookshelves with party streamers and tell him he’d been pranked, but when he saw her anxious expression, his shoulders dropped a fraction and he whispered, “You’re bloody serious.”
“Yes.”
“How?” he blurted. “I mean… the man’s a hermit by all accounts. How did you even meet him, let alone… you know…” he grimaced and she bit back a snicker. It looked like he’d swallowed a toad whole.
A tiny smile crept onto her lips and she relaxed just a little. “It was back on the first of September,” she said. “I went with Ginny to wave James and Albus off, and —”
“— of course, Scorpius started this year too.”
“Exactly. Draco was there to see him off. Ginny was amazed that he’d left the Manor, but he’s… Gods, Harry, he loves that boy so much.” She paused, recalling Draco's stricken expression as the train had pulled away from the platform, and of his fears about losing Scorpius because of their relationship.
Harry watched her with a quiet intensity for a moment and then asked, “So… Uh… how’d it happen?”
She laughed. “I invited him for a drink at the Leaky, fully expecting him to refuse. I think he surprised himself when he accepted. We had lunch together and honestly…? It was really nice. He’s changed, Harry.”
“I know.”
That surprised her, and she sat up a bit and frowned.
Chuckling softly, Harry ran a hand around the two-day stubble on his jaw. “You remember the attack on the Manor?”
“Little Scorpius yowled in my arms for hours while you questioned his father, Harry. I couldn’t forget that.”
Harry acquiesced with a sideways nod of his head. “Well, he wasn’t the same Malfoy from school in that interview room, Hermione. I don’t know what I was expecting, but when I could get him to focus on something that wasn’t the whereabouts of his son, he was articulate and helpful… Still arrogant and snappy, but…” Harry shook his head. “He’s definitely different.”
Hermione bit her lip to try and stop herself from crying, which failed, and when Harry looked up, his face fell.
“Hermione? What’s wrong?” He set his mug down and rose from his battered old armchair, crossing in two strides to kneel beside hers.
“I was so afraid you wouldn’t understand,” she whispered, shaking and overwhelmed.
All the tension left Harry and he hugged her.
It was awkward because of the furniture, but Harry had always given the best hugs no matter the situation. “You deserve to be happy, Hermione. And you’ve always known your mind. If Malfoy can keep up with you, and keep you happy, then…” he shrugged without letting go, “I’ll support you. If he hurts you though, I will use every curse I’ve ever learned as an Auror on him.”
“Thanks, Harry. You promise you won’t tell anyone yet?”
He nodded.
And then someone cleared their throat from the doorway into the main shop, and Hermione jumped. Harry sprang back, hand going instinctively for his wand, but he stopped when he saw who was standing there.
“Theo!” Hermione exclaimed, smearing the last of her tears off her cheeks. “What are you doing here? I didn’t hear you come in.”
“Too busy sobbing onto dear Potter’s shoulder,” he said without barb. “Everything alright?”
She nodded. “Just getting emotional about something as usual. What’s up?”
“Just came to see if you wanted to grab lunch, but I can see that England’s favourite Auror has returned. How was your trip, Potter?”
“Good,” he said, suddenly every bit the awkward boy he’d been at Hogwarts. “I just finished debriefing and thought I’d stop by for a custard cream and a chat with Hermione before I head home. I’m on leave for a week now.”
“Nice,” Theo smiled. “Any plans?”
Harry shrugged. “A few casual rounds of quidditch with Ron and the others,” he said. “Time with Ginny and Lily. Might pop up to Hogsmeade and see if I can visit James and Albus at the weekend.”
Conversation stalled, and Harry rocked back on his heels before putting his mug down and turning to Hermione.
“Look, I’d better get going,” he said. “But… Come over for dinner this week, alright?”
She nodded. “I’d love that. Tomorrow any good?”
“I’ll check with Ginny, but I can’t see why not. I’ll owl you.” He paused and then grinned. “C’mere,” he said, and pulled her into another enormous hug. With a hand briefly on the back of her head, he murmured, “I won’t tell a soul.”
“Thank you,” she said, squeezing him so hard he wheezed.
“See you, Nott,” Harry said with a polite nod as he left.
Once the bell had fallen silent again, Theo turned to her and crossed his arms loosely over his chest. “Everything alright?” he asked again now that they were alone.
“Yeah,” she said and rolled her eyes. “I told him about Draco and bound him to secrecy. I was so relieved when he took it so well that I just burst into tears.”
Theo laughed at that and finally seemed to relax. “I’m honoured to have known before Potter, then,” he said. “And what, pray, are those?” he added when his eyes landed on the custard creams.
“Muggle biscuits,” she said, picking up the plate and holding it out to him. “They’re delicious.”
Theo looked as if she’d offered him a plate of slugs and held up his hand. “Thanks… I’ll, uh, pass.”
“You’re such a snob, Theodore Nott,” she laughed, bustling off to tidy the mugs and plate away. “What did you want, anyway?”
“Lunch,” he said.
“It’s three in the afternoon,” she countered.
“Mmm. I had a deposition that went on forever. I’m starving.”
“Theo, I do actually have a business to run,” she said. “Isn’t today Dan’s day off? Can’t he go instead?”
“He’s already reserved us a table and is probably halfway through his steak and rioja by now,” Theo groused. “I’ll bring you a doggy bag if we have any leftovers,” he added affectionately.
“Thanks?”
Pausing on the threshold to the back room, Theo fixed her with one of his rare, intense and sincere looks. “I’m glad things worked out with you and Draco. Potter was right; you both deserve to be happy.”
She swallowed thickly, feeling tears prickle at her eyes again. “You won’t tell anyone? He wants to tell Scorpius himself. He doesn’t want it coming from someone else first.”
Theo dragged his thumb across his heart in a cross and nodded. “Drinks on Friday? Draco said he might come.”
“I’ll be there anyway,” she promised, and Theo left with a friendly wink that only he could get away with.
She and Draco continued to see each other, mostly using the seclusion of his London apartment, though they did sometimes go back to hers. There they watched the 1946 Great Expectations. To Hermione’s surprise, however, Draco informed her that it wasn’t his first time seeing a muggle film. That, naturally, led down a whole rabbit hole of questions, ending with the discovery that Draco had built Scorpius a warded playroom inside Malfoy Manor that was shielded from the effects of magic and thus allowed Muggle technology to function perfectly.
“But… you need electricity!” she’d blurted.
Laughing and looking far too smug with himself, Draco said, “Indeed.”
“But… wizarding households don’t have electricity!”
“Granger, you’re glorious when you’re baffled. I must make more efforts to confound that brilliant mind of yours more often.”
“Tell me!” she’d shrilled, pinching him in the ribs as they sat on the sofa together with the end credits rolling away in the background. When he’d just sat back with his mouth quirked into an infuriating smirk, she had straddled him and raked her fingers through the slightly shorter hair just above his hears on either side of his head, scrunching the silver-white waves until he’d groaned and bucked upwards slightly into her. “Tell me, Draco Malfoy, or no more kisses.”
“You drive a hard bargain, my beautiful, brilliant witch,” he purred, slightly breathless as she continued to hold him in her grasp, head tilted back a little, throat exposed. His hands landed reverently on her hips and he closed his eyes, clearly enjoying the contact.
Naturally, Hermione kissed him on the lips and he smiled. “Perpetual shock charm,” he said when she drew back. “I made a generator.”
“That’s… That’s so simple it’s genius. But surely you had to look up —?”
“I’m fairly certain I could get a job as a muggle ‘electrician’ now,” he snickered, chasing after more kisses. “But I choose not to.”
“What do you do with yourself all day?” she asked. “Running Malfoy Manor and the estate can’t take up all your time, surely?”
He went a little tense beneath her at that and then chuckled, embarrassed. “I… I’m on the board of a number of charities,” he said, “And I’m currently conducting research into a number areas in the field of Potions. I did a postal course to get my NEWTs in Potions, and shortly after that, attained my masters.”
“Huh, she said, sitting back a bit. She reached down and brought his hands up in front of her. Pressing a kiss to each of his scar-flecked knuckles, she murmured, “That explains a lot. You’ve got the hands of a potion-master, Draco.”
“Too many spills and accidents,” he snorted. “And not enough dragon hide gloves.”
“What are you researching?”
“A number of projects,” he said evasively.
“Come on,” she laughed, dropping his hands again and beginning to nuzzle at his jawline and neck. He was utterly weak to that, she’d discovered to her absolute delight, and she was not above using it to her advantage. Beneath her, he shivered and went limp, turning his head with a sigh of pleasure as she raked her teeth over his pulse and then kissed him.
“I’m working on… ah… on a recipe that… oh gods, Granger…”
“Go on,” she crooned.
“A recipe to make the wolfsbane potion commercially viable,” he panted.
At that, she did pause, but only for a moment. Next thing Draco knew, Hermione had flung her arms around his neck and was squeezing the life out of him like a boa constrictor.
“Granger?”
She just shook her head, thinking of what Remus Lupin would say if he knew what Draco was working on now on behalf of his kind. “Why?” she eventually croaked without removing her face from the crook of Draco’s neck.
His hands skated gently up and down her back, the heat simmering back down to something calmer; something fond and affectionate. “Because,” he fairly growled, “Fenrir Greyback tormented my mother when he lived with us at the Manor, and I had no idea that werewolves could be functioning members of society with the right help until I met Remus Lupin. It was just another area where if I’d only known more at the time, it would have made so much difference to my perception of things.”
He sighed and kissed the side of her head.
“I can make a difference now. I’ve got a state of the art potions lab in one of the dungeons at the Manor, and Severus left his entire collection of books and notes to me in his will. He must have known I always wanted to be a potions master, even when I didn’t think I’d live beyond the end of that awful year…”
That was probably the longest continuous speech from Draco she’d heard since they’d started seeing each other, and the emotion in his voice, lingering beneath the surface like a hidden current, moved her deeply.
“You’re a wonderful man, Draco,” she whispered as she kissed his temple. “I wish the world could see you for who you are now…”
“You see me,” he said very quietly. “That’s enough.”
Chapter 2.
The sound of his low, raspy voice resonated all over my head, making my body react instantly. I gasped as I felt a strike of pleasure travelling down my stomach to in between my legs. Closing my eyes, unable to move, I didn’t want to move, I wanted him to keep whispering, to kiss my neck… “Hahahaha, I’m sorry, I’m just fooling around, your face, you look astonished Y/N-ya”, he said while laying back on the bed, laughing. I chuckled as I stood up brushing my clothes as if I was trying to fix them. “Stop it, I’m not into that you ass. Goodnight”, I said trying to dissimulate how agitated and embarrassed I was.
Almost running, I left the room, directly to mine, holding on my hand my underwear. I jumped to my bed resting violently on my back. “WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?” ... a little time passed until I passed out.
Hard knocks on my door woke me up. “Vice-Captain!! wake up! breakfast is ready!!!” Clione shouted from the corridor. “God damn how many times I have to tell this whole crew I fucking hate being awakened with shouting?” I mumbled annoyed, covering my face with the sheets.
I was brushing my hair when I remembered my “memory box” for some reason. Opened my drawer and found the little velvet red box that holds my “treasures”. Inside, there is a photo of my parents with me when I was 7, happy, eating some ice cream with them. It was taken during one of “the white parades”, on Flevance, before everything turned into hell. A little blue bow that my little sister used to wear, some photos of Law, Bepo, Shachi, Penguin and me when we were the only members of our crew. And, a necklace Law made with some seashells as a gift for my 15th birthday, were also inside.
I got watery eyes while looking at it, “I must be getting old”, I thought, “I got emotional over the memories” ... laughed and put everything back to its place.
“Morning..” I said, greeting the whole crew that was already devouring their breakfast. I noticed Law wasn’t there, so I had to ask. Uni told me he was in the control room preparing for the arrival at the next island. I took a few pancakes and some tea and headed to the control room to ask my captain if he needed help.
“Good morning, doc”, I saluted him. Law that was seated facing the controls, turned the chair to look at me nodding. He has more dark circles as always, so I asked him, “Oi, did you sleep last night? are you feeling sick again?”. “I’m ok, I didn’t get much sleep last night. I got caught up with the book I was reading”, he answered with his usual unfriendly tone. “Yeah, right” I answered back, rolling my eyes, and proceeded “Let me know if you need something before we get to the island”.  Left the control room and went back to my room.
I knew him well to know he hadn't slept because something was worrying him, and not because he was reading the old comic book of “Sora, the warrior of the sea against the evil Germa 66”. But hey, Law never shows any emotion besides annoyance if he is not sick.
A few hours later, the submarine got to the shore of some winter island, and we all got ready to accomplish our assigned tasks.  “Ok everyone, we will meet here at 7 pm, is that clear?” told my crew members, everybody agreed and headed to the island.
The temperature was pretty low, and it was snowing. Law was wearing the long black coat with yellow dots and our Jolly Roger that he used to wear at Punk Hazard, his hat and of course the Kikoku over his shoulder. I love when he wears warm clothing, he looks so cozy, hiding his mouth behind the collar. (He does it so his lips don’t get chapped with the cold breeze, haha).  I don't like to wear the boiler-suit when we get to explore islands, so I decided to wear a long yellow coat with a hood, also with our crew's Jolly Roger emblazoned on the left side of the chest.
We asked a few civilians where to find a pharmacy and headed to the destination following their instructions. Law didn’t say much during the walking, as he normally does.
The island seemed a little bit deserted, yet it had picturesque streets, full of colour that stand out from the snow.  It has cobbled lanes, some canals of crystallized water, there were wooden houses and shops with little lights that garnished their architecture giving the place a romantic aura. The scenery behind the city center included big snowed mountains and a big castle over one of the highest peaks.
I saw a boutique with some cute sweaters on display that caught my eyes and I wanted to try them on. “Law, would you mind if I enter here? I want to buy a new sweater.”, I said. Law looked at me and made a gesture with his hand as he was saying to go ahead.
While searching for the sweater I like on one of the clothing racks I saw through the shop window that a few kids approached the captain. The seller asked me if I needed some help, so I stopped looking at him and l directed my gaze to the girl in the shop. So, I forget about him.
After buying two cute pullovers, we continued walking through the picturesque streets.
When we finally arrived at the pharmacy shop, it seemed like it was closed, but the door was open, so we entered. I rang the bell over the counter and waited for someone to show up. Law walked in front of me and had his hand over his sword. I knew he was alert and trying to protect me even if he didn’t say a word. I didn’t think we could be in danger, yet he never fully relaxes when we are outside. After all, he is one of the most wanted pirates of our generation, so it's understandable he trusts no stranger.
After a minute or so, an old lady approached the counter from the inside of the store. She seemed a little weak and perhaps a little sick. She coughed, covering her mouth with a handkerchief, and then greeted us. “Good afternoon, how can I help you?”, she asked. Law handed her a list of supplies we needed, and we waited. “Oi, don’t you think she looks bad? I mean, she is probably sick, should I ask if she is ok?”, I told Law who gave me a disapproving sight. I rolled my eyes, and said, “Fiiiine…”, “You know that I hate you rolling your eyes at me, you did it yesterday and now too. Stop it.” I looked at him with an “excuse me?” face and while I was about to spit an insult to him the granny appeared. “I’m sorry, I put on the bag some of the supplies, but I don’t have everything you need. We are short on medicines'', she informed us and started coughing harder. “Excuse me, Mrs. Are you alright? are you sick?”, I asked as she seemed to lose composure from all the nagging coughing. Law, that hated when I don’t give a fuck about what he had just said, gave me the look of death. “Oh young lady, we are pretty much sick, a strange illness is hitting the island. Even the only doctor in town fell ill. The orphanage, though, is getting the worst part. All of the kids are bedridden”, as she said, the memories of Flevance and the amber lead disease hit me.
Law's expression changed to a more compassionate one and asked about the symptoms they were experiencing. He might be serious, he might not want to get involved in a lot of things, but he is a true doctor. And he can't let people die if he can help.
We decided to visit the orphanage in hopes of helping the sick people, so we asked the old lady to give us directions to it. She said it was pretty far from the city center and told us her husband would take us there with his cart.
"Thank you so much for offering your help, young doctors", said the old lady's husband that later told us his name was Gerald. The cart was pulled by two brown percheron horses that opened their way through the white landscape.
We had a small talk during the journey, until Gerald asked, "how long have you been together? Are you already married?". Despite the freezing cold weather, my cheeks turned to fire, and I could sense Law hiding his head even more into his coat and hat. Almost as if clarifying that we were no couple was a life or death situation I said, "WE ARE JUST BEST FRIENDS!". I realized I almost shouted and felt mortified. Gerald looked at us with a little smirk and kind eyes, excusing himself for the mistake.
A few minutes after we arrived at the orphanage. It took us almost 30 minutes to get there and the sun was starting to set on the horizon.
When we entered the place, the situation was worse than we thought. There were kids and adults lying on the ground, some of them shivering, others coughing while others were straight unconscious. A few nurses were working in order to maintain them, but the situation had clearly surpassed them.
Immediately Law and I started working. While I helped the nurses, Law used his ope ope no mi power to scan the bodies of the sick people.
We got to the conclusion that what they were suffering was a type of bacteria that caused the respiratory symptoms and the fever.
During our duty, there were times when our eyes interlocked, and we smiled at each other. I wouldn't say we like people suffering, but, we certainly enjoyed working to save lives together.
A few hours passed since we arrived there, the sun was already set, and outside it seemed as if a snowstorm was beginning. I've lost track of time until my portable Den Den Mushi started to ring. "Oi, y/n, where are you? Is Law with you? Are you alright? We've been waiting for you on the shore! It's 9 pm already and we were supposed to meet at 7!", shouted Shachi from the other side of the line. "Oh my God I'm sorry I forgot to tell you!... you see …" I explained to them what we've been doing and that we were probably not going to return to the submarine in a few more hours.
The kids and the other people began to get better and those who were helping there offered us some food that we accepted happily.
While we were having dinner, Gerald got back from outside, who's been in the forest collecting some firewood. He informed us that the weather was getting really bad so coming back to town would be pretty dangerous.
Law and I agreed that staying there for the night was the safer choice.
One of the nurses, Sister Alley, told us we could spend the night in the cabin next to the orphanage. "I'm really sorry guys, I wished we had a better place for you, we owe you so much. The cabin has a fireplace, Gerald would start a fire to keep you warm”, she said. We both smiled at her and thanked for it.
We walked some meters through the forest until we started to catch sight of a wooden cabin. Despite being a strong pirate, I’m the queen of the clumsy people, so I slipped off with what I assume was an ice patch on the already snowy ground. I was about to hit the ground when Law grabbed me by the waist and saved me from a few bruises. His face in front of mine, the feeling of being safe on his arms, I wished it has been eternal. But the romantic moment was destroyed by Law mocking me. “It must be the devil fruit; how come you are so clumsy? Be careful”, he said, and I told him to shut up, this time I wasn’t embarrassed, but I was almost angry at him.
“Here we are, let me help you with the fire”, Gerald said, opening the wood door that creaked as it moved. The inside felt cozy, there were a few cushions and pillows on the ground next to the fireplace. There were no separate rooms, so in the middle of the lounge there was some kind of mattress with a few blankets over it. Our “host” asked for forgiveness about the lack of separate beds, but Law intercepted him and said, “It’s ok sir, we are grateful to have a warm place to stay until tomorrow. If you need help with any patient during the night, just please tell us”. It might be ok for you, damn Law. Was I supposed to sleep with him? - I mean, I wanted to, but, he was still my best friend, and those thoughts should have been erased.
Gerald wished us a good night and returned to the main building.
I hung my coat and as I love to explore, I started to do so around the little wooden house. The kitchen seemed really equipped, so I grabbed a kettle and some cups. Gerald was kind enough to give us some tea bags, so I thought making some tea was a great idea.
Law was next to the fireplace, wearing only a sweater and his jeans. Apparently he has already hung up his coat and his white spotted hat. I saw him once more with a lost sight that seemed to contemplate the firewood.
Looking at him with my face resting on my arm that was over the breakfast nook, I got lost worshiping his profile. I’ve always adored his upturned nose, his spiky black hair, his facial hair, the contrast between his grey eyes and the tanned skin. How come he has always been so handsome, but I’ve never seemed to fully realize?.
The whistle of the kettle intensified as the water started boiling, but I was so into admiring my best friend's beauty that I didn’t notice. Law turned to me and woke me up from my reverie shouting “Oi, Y/N, the kettle!”. My stupid smile quickly erased from my face, and my whole skin turned red. “Sorry”, I said straight away and turned off the burner.
I served two cups, noticing that the tea has an amazing scent. I believe it was hibiscus mixed with some other spices, perhaps some cardamom and maybe a little hint of clover. The smell of the tea mixed with the slightly one from the logs burning, was wonderful.
I walked to where my captain was, “Here, I think you may like it”, I said and handed him a cup. Our fingers brushed softly when grabbed the tea, he looked at me and said “Thanks”. I sat not so near him over one of the cushions and sipped a little bit of my tea. Law looked at me and stood up from his place. I could sense how awkward he felt when he made a little pause, and then walked away.
Why is he leaving? Did I make him feel uncomfortable?, I asked myself trying to hide little stings of pain on my chest that traveled to my throat. Somehow I felt like crying, and when my eyes started to get slightly watery, Law approached me placing his hand over my right shoulder.
I turned my face to him, looking up with a slightly pouty face. I was about to cry, and I didn’t even know why when I noticed a blue little box on his hand.
He sat next to me and said, "Do you remember when we were 15?, that day when I gave you that necklace I made myself for your birthday? I looked at him confused but I answered, "yes, of course, I got it on my memory box, I'm afraid to wear it outside the polar cause it might get lost and I wouldn't forgive myself if I lose it". He was now looking at the little box moving it around nervously and finally said "I got you a better one". He handed me the little box still not looking at me.
"A present?? OMG Law, thank you very much!" When did you buy it??" I almost shouted in excitement while opening the box. Inside there was a fine rose gold necklace that has a little anatomical heart figure as a pendant. I grabbed it and admired the beauty of the jewelry I had in my hands. The heart had a little red stone crimped on it, that shined with every movement.
"Law, this is too much! It must have cost you a lot of Berries, I don't deserve such a fine jewel!, thank you so much", I expressed with a big smile on my face.
"You do deserve more than this, you know. I'm glad you like it", he said, a little embarrassed. “When you were buying the sweaters, I asked some children there if they knew a jewelry store, turned out it was just around the corner”, he confessed.
“Thank you so much, it is just perfect! You know how I adore hearts; they remind me of you.. “Doctor Heart Stealer”” I almost shouted, realizing I have said too much…
I tried to put it on my neck, but I couldn’t clip it right, so I asked him for help. He stood up, kneel at my back and passed from behind the necklace around my neck.
Some branches hit the window violently as they were suffering the merciless wind of the snowstorm outside.
He struggled a little and finally fastened the collar and when he did, the electric power went off. The fireplace was the only source of light, the dance of the fire created figures with shadows and highlights all around the walls of the cabin. We remained silent, maybe a little scared or even surprised, but enjoying the sound of the weather and the creak of the fire.
He was still behind me, and after a few seconds he placed a soft kiss on my back that sent a shiver through my spine. Once again I was unable to speak, did he… did he just kiss my back?.. Before I could say or do something Law stood up and headed to one of the windows. “The storm seems to be even worse than earlier; don’t you think?”, he said, trying to device something through the window.
I couldn’t focus on anything else than the kiss he softly planted on my nape, minutes ago.  He suddenly yawned and walked to the mattress that was in the center of the room, on the floor. He then took his jeans off and hopped inside the bed, naturally. I remained on my spot, contemplating his actions. “How could he be acting so normal?, I’m right here. He just gave me a necklace, kissed my skin and now he just goes to sleep?” I said to myself, still with a confused expression on my face.
“Oi, aren’t you coming to bed?”, he asked me, freely. “Yes… give me a second”, I said, and ran to the bathroom. The toilet was pretty tiny and basic, but enough for me to hide for a few minutes. “Come on, Y/N you slept with him two nights ago, it’s ok, he is like your brother, it’s ok…” I thought, trying to calm myself down.
I finally left my hiding place and headed to the mattress. Law was lying there, he took off his sweater, probably while I was in the bathroom, so he was only using a white tight undershirt, that molded his torso anatomy. Some blankets were covering the under part of his body from his hips. He had his forearm over his eyes, covering them with his neck stretched back.
I bite my lip, as a reaction for such a tempting scene. I was enjoying it, watching him breathe peacefully. I started feeling hot, so I took off the sweater but not my jeans and approached the “bed”.
I thought Law was already asleep, so I got in bed trying not to wake him up. I muffled myself up with the sheets. I remained still, hearing the snowstorm, fixing my eyes on the wooden ceiling, as the memories of my childhood flooded my mind. It must be the snowstorm, the wind, the cold that triggered these memories. eventually I fell asleep.
“No, stop it, my family, leave us alone!!!!”, I screamed. “Y/n-ya! Y/n-ya!, wake up!” said Law, pulling me out from the terrific oneiric world I was submerged in. I got lost into his eyes, and remained there with tears streaming from my eyes, rolling into my cheeks. Law was holding me close to his body around his arms. “Are you having those nightmares, again? why didn’t you tell me?”, he asked, worried. “This is the first time in ages, I think it must be the storm, perhaps the orphanage, the children…”, I expressed amid tears. My best friend brushed his tattooed fingers through my hair, moving it out of my face, and then wiped the tears from my cheeks.
“Oi, do you remember what happened when I gave you the first necklace?” he asked, trying to distract me. A feeling of warmth invaded my insides, suddenly I felt happy. “I do...” I said, laughing timidly, and continued, “It was my first kiss”. He smiled back at me, and said, “Mine too”.
For a second we both closed our eyes. I was grabbing the pendant with my left hand cherishing it and the memories of our younger days when we kissed for the first time. We haven't had much time to think about love while striving to survive so we forgot about it, letting the days, months and years pass, leaving the experience as a mere child’s play.
Suddenly we started laughing, Law didn't let go of me, and our faces were pretty close. “Everything's better when you laugh, I hate it when you cry, it makes me so sad…” he said, rubbing his thumb over my right cheek. I stopped laughing, as he got even closer. Almost as if the point of our noses were about to touch. I could feel the warmth of his breath over my lips, and he did too. My heart started racing, and the only thing I could hear was the blood pumping on my ears. I wasn’t moving, I wanted him to kiss me, I wanted to kiss him… I just didn’t care that he was my best friend, I just needed him to kiss me.  What is taking him so long? Why am I not moving if I wanted this more than anything?. After a good minute, that felt eternal, he exclaimed “Fuck it”, and plant the sweetest kiss over my lips. A feeling of happiness filled my insides, I’ve never been so joyful in ages, it felt the same way as the first time. I was like a teenage girl experimenting love for the first time. Both smiled still with our lips pressed. I doubted for a second if succumbing to my deepest desires was the right thing to do until he decided to turn the cute kiss into a more passionate one. From then on, the desire I’d been accumulating inside of me took control of my body…
We kept on kissing; Law slid a hand under my shirt timidly caressing the skin of my tummy. The kisses migrated from my mouth to my neck, mixed with little bites that surely would turn into hickies tomorrow.
“Law…” I gasped when his hands reached my breasts. “What?” he replied, whispering next to my ear and pinching one of my nipples in between two fingers…
Tumblr media
Like you, like you
Like you, ooh
I found it hard to find someone like you
To say Y/n love life was sad was kinda far behind it, sure he’s dated boys in the past before, but the feelings never stayed. She dated boys and not men because back then her judgement never got the best of her. She did feel bad that after only a few weeks of dating she questioned her feelings, they’d gone so soon but why?
Like you, like you
Send your location come through
I can’t sleep no more
In my head we belong
Y/n always felt like she was doing something wrong when she broke up with them, it wasn’t their fault she lost feelings she just....did. Dating is hard, it’s very hard and no one will tell you that, all these other people make it look easy and fun but it’s just the exact opposite.
And I can’t be without you
Why can’t I find no one like you?
I can’t sleep no more
In my head we belong
Maybe dating was hard because your soul knew the person your with is not the person you want to be with. Maybe it’s hard because deep down you know you won’t have a future with said person and it feels like waisted time. Maybe datings hard because the person you want to be with is with someone else.
These thoughts plagued Y/n and George at night. In each other’s head they belonged together.
And I can’t be without you
Why can’t I find no one like you?
Baby, we tried to fight it
We all been there some days
Sometimes it’s not just hard for one party, sometimes it’s hard for the other party as well. Because George has been in love with Y/n for as long as he could remember, his best friend, and it didn’t feel weird to be in love with her, he tried to push his feelings down, so far down that he couldn’t feel them, yet the feelings are too strong.
Thought I need something else
And acted like I was okay
We just had to work it out
And baby, I needed space
George thought maybe if he dated someone else things would be okay instead of acting like it was okay. He needed to work things out, he gave himself space from Y/n which not only left her confused but Fred as well, he tells everything to Fred so why is he distancing himself from her?.
So when he started dating Katie Bell, it didn’t feel right. Something in his gut told him it wasn’t right and he shouldn’t be doing it, but how could he tell his best friend he’s in love with her? She probably wasn’t even in love with him, he wasn’t even Katie’s first choice.
Ain't nobody 'round here wrong
You love all yours so far away
You're pouring your heart out
I'm acting like I knew
George and Katie’s relationship didn’t last long, he refused to kiss her and only wanted to hold her hand, anytime she’d try to find way to kiss him he’d make a silly excuse to slip away. After a few months they finally split, he couldn’t deny how he felt towards Y/n anymore, he’s been denying it too long.
Late at night he would create scenarios where he poured his heart out to Y/n and she acted like she knew already, his words were moving and he didn’t stumble over his words and they’d share a fiery kiss. Every night he wished something like that would happen.
You held me so down
So down I never grew, oh
I tried to find out
When none of them came through
Before George could confess his feelings for Y/n she also dated someone for a span of months, Adrian Pucey. Adrian Pucey was well known around the school, being on the Slytherin quidditch team had its perks, but Y/n never knew why he was well known for it, other people had been on the quidditch team.
Adrian Pucey put Y/n in a corner when he asked her to be his girlfriend in front of everyone at the great hall, Y/n was speechless for a moment, of course it had to be in front of everyone, if she said no she’d be seen as a heartless bitch. Y/n convinced herself that maybe since George had dated someone else she should too.
Their relationship lasted shorter then George and Katie’s. Adrian had no idea what to do with a relationship nor how to treat a women, he was cold and mean to Y/n, he always backed her into a corner and called her names when she didn’t agree with him, so in a flurry of emotions she broke up with him in front of a decent sized group of people. She felt like he had held her down, she’s a delicate flower who’s trying to blossom into a beautiful hibiscus but Adrian was a slug who was holding her down from growing.
And now I'm stuck in the middle
And baby had to pull me out, oh
Like you, like you
Like you, ooh
George was beyond aggravated when Adrian had asked Y/n out, his Y/n, Fred tried to talk to him later that day in the common room. “Y/n is her own person and can date whoever she wants” Fred told him, “yeah, but it’s angering too see her with some prat as Adrian Pucey”. Ron had butted into the conversation to joke and say that the twins roles had been reversed and one was acting like the other, alas he was told to shut up.
Before Y/n had broken up with Adrian he tried to figure out all the things wrong Adrian was doing, he could’ve made a bullet point list of a few pages from the things he picked up on. He brought them all to Y/n’s attention, she didn’t deny them because, well, she already knew. She had no idea why she was with him. She was more than grateful that George had helped pull her out from the middle.
I found it hard to find someone like you
Like you, like you
Send your location, come through (Yeah)
Damn papa, you a rare breed, no comparing
Now that they are both single George thought it would be a great time to tell Y/n how he feels, but it’s harder done than said. Anytime he’d find a lull in a conversation or comfortable silence he could feel his heart wanting to tell her, wearing to tell her but his mouth just wouldn’t move and his brain just wouldn’t function.
Y/n also wanted to tell George how she felt for so long but could never come to either, whenever they’d be apart from each other she’d have other students or friends come find her then tell her George was looking for her, he’s always looking for her. Y/n thought most of the guys at Hogwarts were just like Adrian, but when she left Adrian she realized there was many guys way different then Adrian, like George, he wasn’t like anyone she’s really seen and it took her this long to realize how rare he is.
And it's motherfuckin' scary
Tryna keep him 'cause I found him
Let a hoe know, I ain't motherfuckin' sharing
I could take you to the parents, then to Paris
Rumors began to spread that Katie was wanting George back, people said she was very sulky and quiet. Her friends said all she brought up was George and how annoying it was getting. “She spends most of her time talking about George, she’s had a few nights where all she talked about was him, it’s quite annoying actually” recalled one of her friends.
This made Y/n jealous. She tried to not get jealous but George had said he was done with Katie. Her mother always told her jealousy is bad medicine. Y/n couldn’t help the way she felt, she knows not to surprise feelings so she embraced it instead, she was jealous and she had a right to be. She waited this long, she didn’t want to share.
You the type I wanna marry (Yeah) and keep you merry
I'll put the ring on when you ready
We play our fantasies out in real life ways and
Y/n’s friend group who consisted of George, Fred, Lee, and Angelina had been talking about the situation in the Gryffindor common room, Y/n was slumped in a arm chair with her arms and legs crossed. She wasn’t pleased to hear the situation again, the students at Hogwarts grabbed onto any drama like a leech. “Are you okay, Y/n?” Angelina asked her, giving a glance to her then to the fire “I’m fine” she mumbled
No Final Fantasy, can we end these games though?
You give me energy, make me feel lightweight
Like the birds of a feather, baby
We real life made for each other
The drama started to disperse, people started to find other things to talk about. Y/n finally felt like she could breathe and she didn’t have to hear someone mumbling about Katie and George. Of course it couldn’t last forever, at lunch everyone chatted about something in the Great Hall. Katie and her friends sat more towards the front of the table while Y/n and her friends sat more towards the middle, Y/n noticed how Katie couldn’t keep her eyes from wandering. Soon Fred picked up on what was happening.
“Oi! George! Looks like a certain someone can’t take her eyes off you” as soon as it passed Fred’s lips, Y/n had tightly gripped a piece of bread she had been eating, crunching sound from the crust and crumps falling to her plate. George nudged her “are you alright?” He asked,Y/n didn’t even look up “I’m fine, do I not look fine?” She snapped. George hadn’t said another word.
Y/n felt like she was stuck in a game she’s meant to lose. To her luck, Katie came wondering over to their part of the table, you could tell she was nervous and she was playing with her fingers. She stopped in front of George “u-uhm, George?” She said quietly, almost to quiet. George looked up from his plate, meeting her eyes “yes?” He said confused. Katie played with her fingers more “i....I just wanted to say that, uhm....I miss you, quite a bit actually” she tucked her hair behind her ear and casted her gaze to the floor “and I was wondering if we could possibly....try again?” George was speechless, and shocked, sure Katie is a nice girl but she’s not his, not when his flower is sitting next to him, clearly seething. However, George didn’t want to embarrass her by saying no, he didn’t want to embarrass her like that. “Uhm...I’ll-I’ll think about it” Katie gave a silent “okay!” With a smile and walked back to her spot, a slight skip in her step.
This only aggravated Y/n more, why couldn’t George be the one to give her so much energy from just a single glance that made her head spin, why wouldn’t he make Y/n feel weightless. Why couldn’t they be birds of a feather?, maybe thinking they were made for each other didn’t really mean they were.
And it's hard to keep my cool
When other bitches tryna get with my dude and
When other chickens tryna get in my coop
'Cause you're a one in a million
There ain’t no man like you
Y/n didn’t want to cause a scene but it didn’t take a fool to notice how affected she was by what Katie had done, especially George’s response. Grabbing her bag, she stood up from her seat hastily and speed walked out of the Great Hall. Her cold and hard stare could send shivers down your spine, she looked like she was ready to exploded any second.
Maybe it was just her head telling her that George was hers, they hadn’t really talked about it for that matter. George had watched her leave the Great Hall, he kept his eyes in the direction she left still, his lips pressed into a fine line, his brain was running around with what he should do. He didn’t move until Hermione said something “well, what are you doing? Go after her!” He didn’t give it a second thought and was out the door.
It wasn’t long before George found Y/n at a spot over looking the Great Lake. Her elbow rested on a ledge with her chin in her hand, she looked a little more calm. George stood next to her, Y/n glanced at him then back to the lake. “What’s wrong?” George said, Y/n gave him another quick glance before she spoke “I thought you said you were done with Katie Bell” she had nothing against Katie, not really, she was just jealous. “I am” George said, Y/n rolled her eyes “didn’t look like it” she replied. Y/n didn’t want to hear it anymore, she turned on her heel to leave but only making a few steps before George grabbed her arms and turned her towards him “I don’t love her!” George said defensively “why are you so jealous anyways?” Y/n scoffed, she wasn’t going to admit she was jealous “I’m not jealous” she mumbled “yes, you are! Why are you jealous?” He repeated “because you’re one in a million! There’s no man like you! I want you for myself” Y/n spoke before she could think.
Like you, like you
Like you, ooh
I found it hard to find someone like you
Like you, like you
Y/n and George couldn’t believe what she had said, George often doubted himself but to hear that from someone he loves. It was refreshing. “I don’t love her” George said again “I love you” the tension was so thick you could cut it with a butcher knife. One was waiting for the other to do something. Y/n’s hands had been shaking a little, George was playing with his pointer finger and staring at his shoes, it was so unreal to them that they both were dumb enough to not see they both fancied each other.
Slowly Y/n took a few steps forward, she wrapped her arms around George’s neck and pulled him in. He buried his face in her neck “it was hard to find someone like you, and I don’t want to let you go” Y/n whispered “I don’t want to let you go either” George added. They both pulled away to look at each other, looking each other in the eyes to find something. George placed a soft kiss on Y/n’s forehead then placed his on hers. Finally they got to have each other.
Slap me, I dare you! pt.6
Sorry for being gone for so long, guys! Let's just say it has been one hell of a summer, Soap Opera even O_o; I hope this makes up for it ^_^;, don't forget to reblog and comment, my asks are open
“Ok, no one panic-”
“How can we not panic! You idiots banished Marley to oblivion!” Asmo shrieked at the top of his lungs.
Levi fumbled his phone as his brother’s voice pierced his ears, leaving him stumbling with shaky hands. Belphie looked on and sighed heavily at his bickering older brothers.
“Asmo, calm down, it’s not like she’s dead.” Belphie claimed.
“But she could be! I can’t believe you both can be so irresponsible!”
“Hey, shut it! If you aren’t going to help then stand still and keep your eyes open!” Levi snapped back as he got back on his knees, searching with his phone flashlight.
Satan stroked his chin as he watched Beel cautiously placed the table on the ground before going to another chair and lifting it carefully. Mammon, on the other hand, started chuckling underneath his breath, drawing the attention of his concerned brothers.
“And why are you laughing, scumbag!?” Levi hissed.
“Because while I made a killin’ at the races, you bastards completely messed up and the best part is there is no way I’m gonna get blamed for it.”
Mammon continued to snicker shamelessly as his brothers gave him stares full of disdain. However, a cold chill filled the room as Mammon felt a firm grip upon his shoulder. His laughter shrunk to a slow nervous chuckle as Lucifer appeared behind him.
“Exactly how are you blameless, Mammon?” Lucifer smiled as his grip tightened.
Mammon swallowed hard as he looked for his younger brothers for help, his silent pleas going unanswered.
“Oi, I didn’t even do anythin’ this time!!!” He pleaded.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“As expected, four inches tall.” Simeon claimed as he gently moved the ruler away from the diminished woman.
Marley just snorted as she crossed her arms and avoided eye contact with the towering angel who handed the wooden ruler to his young ward. Solomon crossed his arms and tilted his head in thought, even though deep down he wanted to break out in laughter. Sensing the mischief in the air, Marley’s temper snapped like a twig at the quiet Solomon.
“Well, don’t just sit there, magic man! Hurry up and fix me!” She growled.
Solomon snorted as her tiny voice rang like a gentle bell in his ears. Simeon just shook his head in disapproval while Luke looked on in awe at the little woman on the table.
“I can’t fix this with a spell, Marley. This was done by consumption, not incantation. Seriously, what did you think would happen when you ate Mini Candy with Hydra Blood Fizz?”
“I thought it was like soda and Pop Rocks! Why is food so weird here!?” Marley screamed as she jumped up and down.
“You really need to read warning labels down here, Marley. Remember how you almost ate Lunatic Pudding?” Simeon scolded lightly.
“It. Was. Pudding! Who does that to pudding!?”
Marley screamed before squatting down and gripping her hair with grumbling frustration. Her mind raced, wondering how she got into this mess in the first place. She just wanted a simple day of studying without anything going wrong but here she was, standing inches tall, surrounded by the Purgatory crew. Seeing her in distress, Luke offered his sympathy.
“Don’t worry, Marley, you’ll be ok. She’ll turn back to normal soon, right Solomon?”
Solomon grasped his chin gently.
“I don’t see why not but it depends how many candies she ate and how many sodas she drank. If it was only a few, she should turn back to normal soon. So, Marley, how much did you ingest?”
Marley looked away with her face darkened with embarrassment.
“Marley, how much?” Simeon parroted.
“...Half a bag and three bottles.”
Simeon blinked in disbelief while Solomon sighed heavily.
“Well looks like you’re going to be stuck like this for a while. I should probably message Lucifer to let him know what happened to you.” Simeon said as he pulled out his D.D.D.
Marley jumped to her feet and violently waved her arms in the air.
“DON’T! Anything but that!” She screamed.
“Why not? The brothers must be worried since you disappeared.”
Marley crossed her arms as her face turned grim.
“Yeah, and what do you think is going to happen when they get their hands on me? Especially behind closed doors?”
The room grew quiet as Marley’s statement rang deep within their minds. Solomon and Simeon’s faces turned red with embarrassment as the supposed scenario bloomed in their mindscapes. Luke, on the other hand, tilted his head in confusion.
“Wait, what does that mean?” He asked bluntly.
“They’re going to bully her like a cat to a mouse.” Simeon answered quickly and sharply, hoping the young angel took the bait.
Luke gasped in shock while everyone else sighed in relief.
“I won’t let them bully you just because you’re small now! It’s not fair!”
Marley snorted out a laugh before smiling softly with a raised eyebrow.
“Thanks, Luke. And thanks to you all for letting me stay here.”
“Don’t mention it. Besides, we can use this time to practice your casting and you being so small, we can practices spells and chants that need a lot of space, since your range has shrunken now.”
Solomon chuckled as Simeon motioned to Luke to follow him to so they could set the table for dinner. Marley snorted at him in retort before looking away in contempt. However, her attention was drawn with the table vibrated gently as the sorcerer rested his head upon his folded arms. He stared at her with his brown-blue eyes which caused Marley to radiate a defensive cold.
“Why are you staring at me like that?”
“You’re covered in dust and lint. How did you end up so dirty?”
Marley looked away with a bit of shame on her face.
“I escaped through a hole in the couch I fell asleep on.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lucifer sighed heavily as he pressed his fingers against his temples. It’s been over three days since Marley disappeared from the common room and they have yet to find any sign of her. He never imagined that he would be on his knees for anyone but here he was, on them looking for the now diminutive Marley. He thought about using Cerberus but he was more of a guard dog than a bloodhound. He groaned quietly as he thought about his brothers’ asinine suggestions from using mousetraps to having a bunch of cats roam the house to scare her out. Surely, she would come out from hunger alone but he dashed that aside when he remembered she was a natural-born survivor. He got to his feet and sighed as he dusted himself off before going to his liquor wall. He picked up a bottle of Demonus and wondered if he could use the enticing liquid as bait to draw her out. However, he buried the thought as Satan and Belphie entered his office.
“Ok, she’s not in the planetarium.” Belphie reported.
“Or the music room.” Satan added.
“Alright, now go and search the kitchen again as well as the dining room.”
Belphie sighed in annoyance while Satan groaned in disgust.
“I don’t want to, I’ve already missed a lot of my napping windows because of this.”
“And I need to catch up on my reading. Don’t you think this would go faster if you punished Beel and Levi after we found her?”
“Not to mention you tied up Mammon too. They’re only four of us looking and we’re running on fumes.”
Lucifer crossed his arms as he heard his younger brothers complain to him with solid logic.
“Fine, go untie them and give them your searching assignments. But let Mammon hang for another hour or two.” He coldly smiled.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“I am so sorry, Marley.” Luke sniffled as he stared at the little selkie with watery eyes.
Marley just sighed heavily as she wrapped herself in her pelt. Simeon entered the room to see his protege whimpering for forgiveness from the tiny Marley.
“Wait, what’s wrong, Luke?” He asked out of concern.
Luke looked up at the kind angel as he gently opened his shaky hands revealing shreds of familiar-looking cloth.
“Um, is that Marley’s clothes? What happened?” He questioned softly.
Luke swallowed sharply, holding back his childish tears.
“I was trying to make Cloud Chess Pie and I got so into it, and...and- ”
Luke’s shoulders trembled as he tried to hold back his flood of emotion. Seeing this, Marley got up and drew Simeon’s attention to her so she could finish the tale.
“Yeah, I wanted a closer look but ended up slipping into the mixing bowl and almost ended up in the oven. Lucky for me, Luke noticed me in time before I became a baked good.”
“So that’s what happened. Luke, it’s ok, Marley isn’t mad at you.” Simeon claimed as he gave a gentle embrace to the upset angel.
“But that’s not it! She was covered in custard and I wanted to clean her clothes. I didn’t want them to get lost in the laundry so I tried to hand wash them, and-”
“-He used too much strength and my clothes ended up in shreds.” Marley sighed defeated.
“I see.” Simeon smiled as he hugged Luke, trying to calm him down.
“I’m not mad at Luke, he was only trying to help but now I have no clothes.”
“You don’t have any other clothes in your pelt?”
“I did, but those got ruined while practicing elemental spells with Solomon. So if anything, I’m mad at that jerk!”
“That’s harsh. I warned you if your mind is distracted, spells will backfire.” Solomon defended as he walked into the room.
Marley scowled at the tall sorcerer that smiled at her with his own brand of cheekiness.
“Don’t be such a smartass, I’ll blame you as much as I want.”
“Come on, Marley, that’s a bit much. Why don’t you wear your pelt?”
“I would rather have my pelt hidden so it doesn’t go up in flames again. You know, like when you told me to practice a fire incantation!?”
Solomon raised his hands in defeat as he took a seat at the table.
“Fine, you win. How do you want me to fix this?”
“Turn me back to normal size.”
“Quit that, you know I can’t do that. What if you ended up bigger than you’re supposed to be or you get even smaller?”
Marley just growled in annoyance at the smiling wizard who stared down at her. Solomon, on the other hand, sighed as he got up from the table and walked over to the decorated wall table.
“Don’t worry, I have a solution for this.” He claimed as he walked back to the table with a lightly colored rose in hand.
Marley scrunched up her nose at the flower that Solomon pointed at her with.
“You think giving me a flower is going to keep me from freezing your ears off in your sleep?” She barked.
Solomon just ignored her minor threat as his hair moved gently in a supernatural wind.
“Hear me, O threads of connections, weave your protective embrace around my pupil.”
As the words left his mouth, the petals gently plucked themselves off the stem and quietly surrounded the now on edge Marley. She swiped and tossed the petals away from her but her efforts were in vain as she was buried in a pile of flower petals. After much fighting, she finally was able to see as she dug herself out. There she stood, dressed in a makeshift strapless ball gown made entirely of rose petals as a final petal found itself on her head. While Marley gave an audible groan, Luke and Simeon looked on with surprise and wonder.
“Wow, Solomon, I didn’t know you could make clothes from flowers with your magic.”
“Actually, this spell was made with Asmo’s help. He went through a phase when he wanted to dress in flower petals but the minute he got hives, he wanted nothing to do with the idea. Either way, what do you think Marley? Does it suit your taste?”
Marley folded her arms.
“Yeah, if I was getting married! You think this is funny, don’t you!?”
“It’s not my fault. The spell lets the flower I use chose the shape and the fact I used a Rose of the Lady Moon, I’m assuming it has a bit of a royalty streak in it.”
“Ok, so which flower is the hoodie and shorts type?” She claimed plainly.
Killing Eve S3 Starters
Change as needed
“If you want to be a winner you have to sacrifice everything.”
“I am so much happier now she’s dead.”
“Bureaucracy in all its glory.”
“I’m back now, with bells on.”
“We’re always like this, aren’t we?”
“We’re gonna make a fabulous team.”
“You’re not easy to replace.”
“What’s in it for you, hmm?”
“Whatever you want, I will do it.”
“Power is there for the taking, ___. You just have to be smart about how.”
“You have friends?”
“You realize to fit in here you have to be socially inept like the rest of us.”
“You know, a normal person would flake on their friend when something better turns up.”
“Well, remind me not to rely on you for anything.”
“You can hide from it, but it won’t hide from you.”
“Are you crying? Don’t be a wimp.”
“Nothing good comes fast.”
“My work remains totally untouchable.”
“You know, you really shouldn’t leave your front door open considering the amount of people that have tried to kill you.”
“Yeah, well it’s not my problem anymore.”
“You just don’t seem very happy, that’s all.”
“Who says I want to be happy?”
“You see this and you’re transported to a time of happiness?”
“Are you ever going to apologize?”
“You really don’t think you did anything wrong at all, do you?”
“Life is just a series of trade-offs, ___.”
“This isn’t something you can fix, ___.”
“Our entire relationship has had you at the center of it.”
“She’s lying, okay?”
“You’re crying because you feel stupid. Because you WERE stupid.”
“Hey, these drinks don’t involve games or organized fun, do they?”
“I hear you’re a walking miracle.”
“You know, when a bullet has been through you, it leaves something behind.”
“And then you taught me how to swear in Russian.”
“It’s about acknowledging the sad together.”
“Couldn’t we be sad and listen to good music?”
“It’s push by the way.”
“Why would I want to look ten years younger?”
“It’s good to have many lovers. Keeps you limber.”
“Winners win alone.”
“You can’t go down that path anymore.”
“So you don’t think about her anymore?”
“So, shall we just dive right in?”
“I don’t believe in distractions.”
“I’m fully capable of doing my job without any approval from you.”
“I know you think I’m a self-serving prick.”
“Some things are bigger than the job and this is one of them.”
“You have to start taking care of yourself right now or it’s going to catch up with you.”
“How long do I have to stay?”
“Anybody can fight. It takes a special person to kill.”
“Just so you know, I’m kinda a big deal in this industry.”
“You do everything I say exactly when I say it.”
“If you make me look bad I will kill you.”
“You did all that for a boyfriend?”
“You only know a country once you know it’s drink.”
“It’s good to know he was getting some before he died.”
“Being hard on someone is sometimes what they need.”
“Don’t be embarrassed will you?”
“Why don’t you go and do your thing where you close your eyes and breathe?”
“You do not get to come here without an invitation anymore!”
“Haven’t you heard? I’m moving up in the world.”
“If I killed everybody who betrayed me there would be nobody left.”
“You have to know, you’re not safe.”
“You think you’re in control but you’re not.”
“Really, I’m fine. You should go.”
“You know I care about you?”
“You really like that baby, huh?”
“It would be really unsettling if he actually got something right.”
“I have all my best thoughts in the bath.”
“I haven’t looked up in ten minutes.”
“Meetings have biscuits.”
“That is literally the most parenting this household has ever seen.”
“You have been unfocused and manic for days.”
“I’m just having some fun.”
“It’s not my fault he was an idiot.”
“You want to amuse yourself, go crazy.”
“I’m the one doing all the work.”
“You think handling you isn’t work?”
“You should get your act together.”
“I’m not ready!”
“Once I pop, I just can’t stop.”
“I don’t have any self-control.”
“Is that supposed to mean something to me?”
“Did you take this job thinking it’d be easier?”
“You really should have some kind of protection, you know that right?”
“Have you ever locked and popped, ___?”
“I want to smell powerful.”
“Pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones is how we grow.”
“I adore a coincidence, it makes me feel I’m in the right place.”
“I just had the novel experience of being stood up.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll have him killed.”
“A terrible lifestyle suits me, huh?”
“Do you believe a word of that?”
“This place is psychopathic.”
“I should have shot you in the head.”
“I can’t stop thinking about you.”
“I’m not here for you!”
“I don’t want to talk about it.”
“Who doesn’t answer their phone on a stake-out?”
“Everyone, look innocent.”
“Don’t wait for me in the dark like that!”
“Don’t you want to know why I’m in your bed?”
“They own every little bit of you.”
“What kind of baby do you think I was?”
“I’m wearing power. And to keep power, you need knowledge.”
“This is where you belong!”
“So you’re saying this is it?”
“You do realize that’s my desk?”
“What is that smell?”
“You’re supposed to share the cake!”
“You’re like a sad teenager, waiting for a like on Instagram.”
“Don’t you like having fun?”
“You don’t know what it’s like when you’ve chosen to destroy your own life.”
“I promise you, whatever you’ve done is not half as bad as the stuff in my checkered past.”
“I stabbed someone.”
“Do not think that you are the only self-loathing as whole in the room, ever.”
“Choices, ___. It’s all about choices.”
“Can I stay with you tonight?”
“But it’s my job to do terrible things.”
“I want you to have a plan.”
“So not over me.”
“Ah. You made me cake.”
“It really doesn’t look like the picture.”
“Wait, wait, just because it looks bad doesn’t mean it tastes bad.”
“You don’t deserve nice things if you don’t look after them.”
“Why are you lying to me?”
“I gained valuable insight into Victorian gender politics.”
“You’re so close to getting what you want. But you have to play by the rules.”
“You are so annoying today.”
“I am just trying to save you from yourself!”
“You know, you really don’t have to be so dramatic.”
“This would be a really bad way to go!”
“Don’t worry, you’ll be my favorite.”
“What got you in such a good mood?”
“I really hate it when you do that.”
“You’re free now. You can be whoever you want.”
“But I don’t want to be free.”
“You have the hiccups?”
“I’ve been ordered to stay away from all of this.”
“What are you doing home at this hour of the day?”
“It is a bit odd being here in the daytime, isn’t it?”
“I get up to all sorts of stuff.”
“You barely even look at me.”
“I’m trying to tell you that I’m worried about you, ___!”
“You have hat hair.”
“You said you have everything under control.”
“Not getting any, huh?”
“Did they air bnb my room again?”
“I know a killer when I see a killer and she’s a killer.”
“You were mean.”
“I beat the crap out of the sofa so I don’t beat the crap out of people.”
“You’ll have lots of fun, I promise.”
“Being strong is a choice.”
“That looks like shit.”
“You don’t want to dance?”
“Eat this. Be quiet.”
“Come on, it used to make you laugh.”
“You always laugh at things that aren’t funny.”
“You do not belong here.”
“I was not a happy person.”
“You were never a happy person.”
“You were bad from the beginning.”
“Oh, I think I need to kill you.”
“It’s so good to see your eyes.”
“Do you want to put ice on it?”
“Are you trying to seduce me?”
“This is the same stuff I was doing before.”
“You know that would be okay... if you’re not okay, that is.”
“Sometimes you just need to let it win.”
“You can’t watch sports without a hot dog.”
“I don’t want to talk about it!”
“Where are we going? It better be someplace hot.”
“You should run away.”
“I don’t think you really want this.”
“Don’t let them see something’s up.”
“The plan only works if nobody knows there is one.”
“Should I… trust you?”
“None of us are to be trusted, that’s why we work here.”
“Don’t be a grump.”
“Stop or I’ll scream.”
“You know how annoying it is when you have to be around two people in love?”
“You’re a real role model, you know that?”
“You don’t have to do this. I already know you are scary.”
“___, are you comparing yourself to a carrot?”
“I don’t love being here either.”
“It would be so much better if we could have this conversation after I’ve eaten.”
“To you, I am harsh and cold and, to me, you are disappointed and expectant.”
“You don’t talk to people when they are bowling.”
“You can’t beat us, you understand?”
“Oh, I’ve got to get out of here.”
“That guy was really staring at me.”
“Do you know why I love you, ___? Because you’re an agent of chaos. And I love chaos.”
“You’re a beautiful monster, ___.”
“Thank you for the inappropriate touching. It was actually pretty nice.”
“You’re a child. You have no idea what you’re dealing with.”
“It’s just standard white person stuff.”
“Jokes are for people who do their job correctly, ___.”
“Do you ever think of anything else?”
“Heroes only get the girl in Hollywood.”
“Do you want to sit down?”
“Is this one of those moments we pretend never happened?”
“Look what someone just gave me. It’s a shank made out of a toothbrush.”
“Tone all this down a little. It’s too much.”
“So you’re actually leaving me here?”
“Why are you making this difficult?”
“You can’t get raided twice in a day. It’s a rule.”
“You look ridiculous.”
“Germans don’t wear kilts.”
“Russia has vegans now.”
“There is no such thing as a nice surprise.”
“Just once I want to make a scene and not be told to “be quiet” or to “pull myself together” or that I’m being ridiculous!”
“What kind of person does that?”
“I hope you die.”
“He’s crying out to be killed.”
“You have lost it, haven’t you?”
“Okay, I’m gonna make myself an omelette to celebrate.”
“That random guy now wants to kill me.”
“I thought you didn’t want to talk about it.”
“Wherever I go, someone wants to murder me.”
“I probably deserve it.”
“Let’s face it, ___, I’m a prick.”
“Don’t argue with me we’re celebrating.”
“You’re not really okay, are you?”
“I fear the walls may be closing in on me.”
“It’s starting to feel personal.”
“What is wrong with you?! You’re an emotional iceberg!”
“I’m not coming at you, I’m trying to hug you.”
“This isn’t healthy.”
“You can’t just refuse to feel anything for the rest of your life.”
“A little overdramatic, don’t you think?”
“Is this really necessary?”
“You’re going to die in this room.”
“We are both to blame.”
“Do you ever think about the past?”
“They seem happy. Carefree.”
“I want to feel like that.”
“Dancing’s not my thing.”
“Are you leading or am I?”
“We’d consume each other before we got old.”
“Talk me through your outfit.”
“Comfortable is what you make people with a terminal illness.”
“I was trained to look devastating.”
“You know, you almost have no sense of humor.”
“What am I supposed to do? Applaud or…?”
“What is this really about?”
“You’ve not tried to bribe someone before, have you?”
“I expected you to look more like a stripper.”
“You know your problem? You don’t know what’s good for you.”
“Well, this is something new.”
“You’re going to burn for this.”
“I wish I could believe you.”
“You never loved me. Not even close.”
“You can be pretty athletic when you choose.”
“I don’t want to do it anymore. Any of it.”
“You were never like them. You only thought you were.”
“When I try to think of my future I just see your face over and over again.”
“Did I ruin your life?”
“Do you think I’m a monster?”
“I think we all have monsters inside of us, it’s just that most people have managed to keep theirs hidden.”
“Help me make it stop.”
dancing queen.
Tumblr media
was legitimately going to write about how much @jjiminah loves me but i’m a selfish baby who doesn’t share.  haha.  just kidding.  ... anyway, god, i love funny, cliche tropes.  don’t even look at me.  just read this instead.  xoxo!
pairing.  jjk x f!reader.  rating.  general?  i think?  tags.  mentions of alcohol, inappropriate staring, a bit of touching, idiocy. downright clown-ass idiocy.  but also, kook is cute as hell and he’s definitely drunk.  wc.  1k.
Tumblr media
It’s impossible for him to take his eyes off you.  He’s probably been staring for longer than is strictly speaking necessary, seemingly hypnotized by the sway of your hips and how your hair catches in the light, reflecting the overhead lights back at him.
You’re like a kaleidoscope of colours and he can’t look away - hasn’t been able to since you’d made your Salome-like entrance an hour ago, all long limbs and glossy lips.
A small - okay, big - part of him muses over what they’d look like wrapped around his—
He shakes his head once, twice, then a third time for good measure.  The thoughts are knocking around in his head far too loudly - louder even than the deep bass that shakes his bones and beats in his ears - and it’s getting hard to focus on anything but how badly he wants to be dancing with you.  He wonders if you feel as good as you look, if you’d let him take the lead.
He wonders and wonders - and then he does, crossing the crowded bar floor in five long strides of his two thousand dollar designer boots.
“Hi.”  The greeting gets lost somewhere along the way, but he doesn’t mind.  Not when it has you blinking up at him, long lashed and so delicate he’s not sure what to do with himself.
Up close and personal, you’re more than he could have imagined, covered in a faint dusting of freckles and enveloped in a heady mixture of tonka bean and tiger lily and something incredibly warm.  It reminds him of dessert;  his mouth waters with the thought.
“Can I help you?”  Your voice is soft - far softer than he’d anticipated.  There’s not an ounce of grit to your words.  They tumble off your tongue, sweet as pie and mellifluous.
It’s only because you’re so close that he can hear you.
“I’m Jungkook.”  He’d offer his hand but it’s got a mind of its own, already halfway to your face when he realizes what he’s doing.  He doesn’t apologize, though.  Half-furled fingers linger in the space between you.  “You’re insanely pretty.”
He’s watching your face closely - admiring it, really - so he sees, in full high definition, the different emotions his compliment elicits.
First, confusion, furrowed between your brows and in the subtle way your mouth pulls and rounds, poutier than it should be.  Then surprise, delighted and brilliant.  It spills over every inch, sweeping the uncertainty from your expression like sunshine to shadows, and your laughter is like pealing bells, chimes in the wind on a spring day.  At the curl of your eyes, framed by glitter, there’s sympathy or something close to it.  Mercy, maybe?
Your hand meets his with gentle pressure, guiding it down to his side.  “You’re drunk.”
“I’m not that drunk - and you’re still beautiful.”
He has a point.
Your sigh is indulgent, slipping out in a breath that smells like berries and vodka.  You’ve all but stopped dancing, a picture perfect silhouette against the backdrop of bodies.  “So, how can I help you?”
“I’d like to take you home.”  He’s not always this honest.  He’s got liquid courage to thank for that.
“I don’t go home with strangers,”  you state, far kinder than he expects.
“Isn’t everyone a stranger until you get to know them?”
“But I don’t know you.”
“You know my name.  I’ll tell you anything else you want.”
His insistence would be off-putting if he weren’t so cute, a little glazed over in the eyes and enticingly broad across the chest.
“Jungkook was it?”
“That’s right.”
“Let me give you some advice—”  The heat of your palm burns through the thin shirt he’s wearing, the tips of your fingers just barely grazing the exposed skin at his collar.  You admire the way he tenses beneath your touch, straining under the soft cotton.  “You’re cute.”  By the way he nods, almost imperceptibly, you’re sure he already knows.  “But no girl wants to go home with a guy like this.”
That seems like news to him.  His head cocks adorably, swaths of dark hair sweeping over his big doe eyes.  It’s a deceptively soft gesture.
“Then what do girls want?”  You’re sure he’s asking only for the sake of conversation.
“They want to be wooed - to feel wanted.”
“I do want you.”
“That’s not what I meant.”  It feels like talking to a wall or a very drunk, very cute guy, which was practically the same thing.  “You have to make going home with you better than going home and eating chicken nuggets in bed.”
The grin he offers is blinding - slightly too-big front teeth and the most endearing dimples.  “You can eat chicken nuggets in my bed.”
You can’t keep the charade up.  “You’re really bad at this,”  you deadpan.
“But babyyy.”  He’s got you all wrapped up the moment you’ve dropped the act, winding his arms tightly around your waist.  He’s so warm, so buzzed, that you can feel it practically radiating off his body.  Just his touch feels like intoxication by osmosis.
“You would be awful at picking up girls at the bar.”
“It’s a good thing I don’t need to,”  he hums against your neck, into your hair that feels a little sticky against your bare shoulders.
“Why did we do this then?”  You’re exasperated but still terribly in love with your stupid twenty-four-going-on-eighteen-year-old boyfriend.
“Listen, it was for science.”
“Science?”  You echo, disbelieving.
“Yeah - I hear it spices things up in the bedroom.”  He’s withdrawn just enough to level you with a lewd smirk, single hand dropping from your back to splay comfortably over the swell of your ass.  He squeezes, savouring the lace that rides up and bunches in his palm.  “Thought it’d be fun.”
You laugh then, full of mirth and adoration.  It careens into his chest, your cheek pressed to it as your shoulders shake.  “That only works if you’re actually charming.”
“Whatever.”  Jungkook huffs the most adorable sound, pinching your bare thigh.  “Let’s go home.”
May I have a request a finding out that the MC finds out that they are pregnant with RFA +V, V's is with Lucy?
yes, i love this prompt! however for V, I’d rather have Lucy still be their adopted daughter-changing the way she came to be their child doesn’t sit right with me, I hope that’s okay :)
I’ll use she/her pronouns for MC, but if you’d like me to change them then feel free to let me know <3
YOOSUNG:
* Knowing how much of an over-excited mess he’d become at the news, MC waited patiently for him to be done with work for the day, come back home, take a shower and finally come to flop down on the couch besides her, leaning his head on her shoulder.
* This was their usual routine, finding some time before bed to talk about their day, plans for tomorrow and what not. MC gently ran a hand through Yoosung’s hair, toying with the blonde curls. “So...I’ve got some news” she started, biting at her lip.
* Yoosung hummed, already dozing off on MC’s shoulder, blinking back the sleepingess as MC nudged him off her shoulder. “Baby come on, I think you’ll want to be awake to hear this” she laughed, teasing him as he stifled a yawn.
* “You’re saying there’s something more important than a full 8 hours of sleep?” he asked, fully aware of the irony-how in college he’d go nights without sleeping a minute to game, to the present, where he can’t function properly without a minimum couple hours of sleep before work.
* MC hummed, pretending to think as she tapped a finger to her chin. “Let’s see...would knowing you’re about to become a dad be important enough?”
* She smiled, raising a brow as she saw the range of emotions running themselves over Yoosung’s face. Shock, confusion, excitedness-his mouth agape, eyes wide and teary.
* “You-what-we-who-we-baby?!” he jumped off the couch, pointing to MC’s stomach as she bit her cheek to contain her giggles at his over-exaggerated reaction.
* “Yes Yoosung”, she affirmed, nodding down to her own belly, “there’s a baby right there. How...how do you feel about that?” despite the shaky grin on his face MC was still hesitant, worried how Yoosung might feel once this excitement wears off. Sure, they ocassionally discussed future plans, but never to great lengths, and it’s normal to freak out in such a situation and-
* “Are you kidding me?! We-MC we’ll be parents! Omigosh I’m-” he fell to his knees, leaning forward to lean his head into MC’s lap, his hands on her thighs gripping tight.
* Gingerly he looked up, gently bringing a palm to rest on her lower abdomen.
* “Hi baby” he whispered, not caring if the baby was old enough to hear him through the womb or not. He’d be sure to study all that later. “I’m-I’m your dad. I can’t wait to meet you buddy...”
* Honestly....both he and MC teared up at that. Neither of them really expected it, but they both couldn’t wait to be parents.
ZEN:
* MC had taken a pharmacy test that came back negative, but her period was still running late. Confused, she decided to book an appointment to her gynecologist as soon as possible, worried what the implications of this may be. If not pregnancy, then what...?
* Zen had come into the room the moment she’d been on the phone, booking an appointment for the following week. He raised a brow as he heard her, but she simply smiled, holding up a finger as a cue for him to wait a moment.
* “Babe, what’s up? Everything alright?” he asked as soon as she hung up, coming close to wrap his arms around her waist.
* “Mm, yeah just, my period’s late and uhm-” she hesitated, unsure of how to continue. Quite frankly, she wasn’t sure of what was going on either, so how was she to explain it to Zen?
* She felt his grip around her waist tighten, his breath hitching.
* “Wait-does that mean-could you be...?”
* She turned around to face him, not surprised to find pure glee on his face-they’d discussed their plans for the future before, and they both had agreed they’d wanted to start a family together, just never decided on the when.
* MC smiled, running her fingertips across Zen’s knuckles. “I don’t know. I really don’t, but I guess we’ll find out once I go to the doctor” she shrugged.
* Zen hummed, leaning his head atop her shoulder. “Next week right? Tell me the time, I’ll make sure to make time to come with you.”
* “Wha-Babe you don’t have to-” MC started before Zen cut her off with a quick peck on the lips and a wink as he twisted her around to face him.
* “Shush. Whatever the doctor tells you, I’ll be there with you, and we’ll face it together. Always” he said, his smile softening.
* And as a man of his word, Zen was there with her at MC’s appointment, holding her hand as her gynecologist took an ultrasound probe and looked knowingly at the screen, turning to face MC and Zen with a smile.
* “Congratulations you two”, they smiled, both Zen and MC turning to the doctor with wide eyes, “you’re about 5 weeks pregnant!”
* Now, if anyone asks, he won’t admit it, but did Zen jump up and down in that examination room, screaming and giggling like a kid? Did he cry and lean down to kiss MC, who was currently stuck with an ultrasound probe inside her and a little unable to cheer as excitedly with him? Did he have to clear his throat and apologise to the doctor who had to hide their laughter behind a cough?
* Yes. Yes he did.
* He’ll talk to MC’s belly non-stop, will be there for EVERY appointment and ultrasound, will cry when he first hears his baby’s heartbeat or sees the first 3D ultrasound. He’ll do every single bidding of MC, from weird cravings to holding her when the morning sickness hits, just 100/10 the best partner and father.
* Plus the first thing he teaches his kid is to never ever call Jumin ‘uncle’ :’)
JAEHEE:
* Okay listen, there’s a little backstory here that I can add thanks to my current weeks of working at an ObGyn and Fertility clinic;
* So Jaehee and MC, after establishing their coffee shop and having it run well for a few years, decided they were ready to take the next step and start a family together. However, there were many limitations when they tried to adopt a child, so they researched other options, and found that a single woman, can in fact, receive a sperm donor and an IUI (In Utero Insemination-just fancy terminology for ‘putting the sperm in the womb with a tube!), without too much of a hussle.
* So they opted for this option. They sat through the paperwork together, mutually decided who it’d be who’d try and get pregnant-they both had no quailms about it so they kind of decided over rock-paper scissors lmao, and so the process began.
* However, even with modern day medicine, pregnancy in such means isn’t 100% guaranteed; in fact, the chances are about a little over 40%. So after the procedure the two worried, hoped luck would find them and they’d be able to start their own little family.
* A couple weeks after the procedure, Jaehee was manning the coffee shop whilst MC took a break back home to come take over the evening shift later on. It was a quiet day, not many people in the shop save for a few of their regulars and a couple friends, their cat Cocoa who’d now become the cafe’s mascot strolling around like she owned the place.
* Everything was peaceful...until MC came running, the bells over the front door jingling manically as she slammed it open and ran to the counter Jaehee had been standing at.
* MC panted, leaned on the counter to catch her breath as Jaehee fretted over her, a million worst-case-scenarios running through her brain.
* “MC? What-what’s wrong, what happene-”
* Before she could speak MC lifted her head, a huge grin on her face. “Jaehee. Baby we did it! We’re pregnant!”
* Jaehee was, for the first time in forever, at a loss for words, her lips slack, her hands dropping to her side as her brain short-wired. “We-we are? You took a test? You?”
* MC nodded along to Jaehee’s line of half-questioning half-realising, laughing as tears welled up in Jaehee’s eyes. She ran across the counter to MC, meeting her half-way into a crushing hug as they laughed and cried together.
* “We’ll have a baby” Jaehee whispered into the crook of MC’s neck, the wetness of her tears pooling into the cusp of skin.
* “Yeah. Yeah we will Jae” MC nodded along, stroking soothing circles into Jaehee’s back.
* They were lost in their own little world...before the sound of clapping brought them back to the present.
* Of course the few customers in the shop had heard and seen everything, and both their regulars and their friends were eagerly cheering them on, some even whistling and yelling ‘congratulations’ at the two who were now a blushing mess.
* Even Cocoa the cat came by to meow at them, as if to say ‘eh, whatever, congrats I guess’ which was....probably the nicest thing this cat has ever done for them lmao
* And that’s the story of how their coffee shop had now become famous for the ‘super mom duo’ that runs it hehe
JUMIN:
* If you think this man wouldn’t get emotional over finding out he’ll be a father you’re a) WRONG b) REALLY WRONG and c) GOTTA PLAY HIS ROUTE ALL OVER AGAIN
* Will he be scared? YES! He’ll be stressed, but listen-it’s probably not for the reasons you’re thinking.
* When MC announces her pregnancy to him, it’s not over a candle-lit dinner or whilst lounging on the couch. Nah, this man is observant af, especially when it comes to the person he loves.
* He noticed her coming home with a pharmacy bag after work and frowned, instantly wondering what its contents were.
* “MC, you seemed in perfect health today, is something wrong? Should I call a doctor?”
* MC was quick to reassure him that no, she was fine, but was hesitant when explaining that her period was running late, worried how he’ll take the news-sure, they were married, but they never really explicitly discussed the potential of having kids and a family, she didn’t know how Jumin would react to it.
* “I see” he nodded, “You did seem worried, I was hoping you’d eventually talk to me about it. So you’re taking a pregnancy test? If it’s alright with you, can I wait outside for you to tell me the results?”
* If anyone else were to hear the conversation, it might seem like Jumin was cold, distant even. But MC could tell the little incantations in his voice, how his eyes gleamed, his mouth twitching at the corners-he was hesitant, yes, but also excited. And to be honest...so was she.
* So Jumin waited, his arms folded and foot tapping anxiously on the floor as he leaned on the wall right next to the bathroom door, holding his breath until he heard the door open, seeing the little stick MC held in her hands, how her shoulders shook as she looked down at it.
* “W-what does it say?” he asked, fearful of looking down at the test himself-he doubts he’d be able to understand it even if he did.
* “It’s-it’s positive. Jumin it’s-if this is right then I’m pregnant” she looked up to him, eyes welling up with tears. Jumin sighed, unable to contain a smile from forming on his own lips as he wiped away MC’s tears, holding her face in his palms.
* “We’ll book an appointment with a gynecologist first thing tomorrow, but if it’s true then...MC, I’m happy. I truly am.” He said, knocking his forehead with hers.
* She let go of the test, put her hands around his back, feeling the soft shake of his body as he took in the new information. It was a shock to them both, but together, they’d be able to prepare for it. However...
* “Jumin...? Are you truly happy?”
* He leaned back, smiling down at her. “If I were the same person I was before I met you-before I fell in love with you...I wouldn’t be. Then again, I never would’ve been in this predicament if that were the case, but regardless, back then I would’ve worried that the woman coming to me with a child of mine would seek out only money and fame, not to give the child the love and nurturing it needs to grow up well and safe.”
* He let his eyes flutter shut, opened them again as he looked on, shakily bringing a hand down to MC’s abdomen.
* “With you....with you I know it’s a child that’ll grow up loved, cared for. We’ll raise them together, and they’ll get to grow up as a child, not as a tool. That’s...that’s all I want for our child. To grow up loved, happy.”
* So...yeah. He’ll be scared, and boy oh boy the first time MC gives him his child to hold he’ll be so scared but also so happy I think it’ll be the first time Jumin Han will cry with joy, but overall? He’ll be one dang great father
SEVEN/LUCIEL/SAEYOUNG:
* Let’s assume that this all happens well after he finds his brother and leaves the agency-he’s still a hacker, but a ‘white hacker’ or whatever it is they’re called, often-times collaborating with C&R to strengthen their online security, doing hacking tests e.t.c.
* He’s in a good place, his bond with Saeran is slowly improving, and his love for MC is constantly growing, so the two have had the time to talk about their plans for the future, about what they want and the relative timelines.
* Saeyoung always wanted a family-that much we’re all aware of. But...he never expected he’d be allowed to have one. Now that he’s given the opportunity to start anew he’s excited, but also terrified, waiting for something bad to come right round the corner and take it all away. So to now become a father...he’s not sure how well he’ll handle that responsibility.
* Well, he shares these fears one late night with MC, which...makes it all the harder for her to tell him when the tell-tale signs come up. When her period’s late, when it’s completely gone for one, then two months. When she feels sick in the mornings, nauseous and bloated, why she makes excuses for her odd behavior much to Saeyoung’s dismay.
* In fact, it’s actually Saeran that notices what’s up, quickly putting two and two together since he’s not the one MC is actively trying to avoid.
* He confronted her about it, and she broke down, explained it all to him, how she’s done more than a few pharmacy tests to confirm her suspicion and they all came back positive, what Saeyoung had told her and why she feels terrified of telling him the truth.
* And Saeran...well, he’s dumbfounded.
* “You...are you really that stupid?” he asks, brows raised. MC can’t help it-even though she was crying whilst speaking to him, her tears stop at the sudden proclamation and she looks up at him wide-eyed.
* “Listen, I know my brother’s an air-head and all, but do you really think that little of him? That he wouldn’t be over the fucking moon if you told him he’s gonna become a dad?”
* Well......talk about perfect timing, who happened to come back home and walk into the living room at the perfect moment to hear this very last bit of the conversation?
* Yup of course Saeyoung stood there, his keys dropped to the floor as he stared at his twin and his girlfriend, confusion and shock evident on his face.
* None of them spoke for a long moment whilst Saeyoung composed his thoughts.
* Then, with perfect calamity he simply took a deep breath, let his eyes fall shut. “Saeran, can you leave for a bit? I need to speak with MC.”
* Saeran merely nodded, throwing an apologetic look MC’s way before heading out the door, the loud thud alerting MC and Saeyoung to the fact that they were now the only two people in the house.
* The silence was deafening, constricting MC’s lungs like a monster’s tentacles around a shipwreck.
* “Sae-listen, I’m sorry, I should’ve told you sooner, I didn’t know how to and I-”
* She didn’t get to finish her words. Saeyoung held a palm up, motioning for her to stop. “How far along are you?” he asked, his voice barely above a whisper, breaths raspy and shaky.
* “...about 8 weeks now” she admitted.
* Saeyoung took a step closer to her, crumpled onto his knees as he wrapped his hands across her belly.
* “I’m-I’m going to be a dad” he whispered, mainly to himself, a declaration to make himself believe it, “and all I’ve done so far is make you worry-MC, I’m so sorry. I should’ve never, never made you feel like there was anything you couldn’t talk to me about. I’m-I’m worried. I’m terrified but I’m so happy-so, so happy” he mumbled the last words into the fabric of her shirt, hiding his tears on her body.
* MC wrapped her arms around her, stroked his hair as he cried. They eventually found themselves laying side by side on the carpet like a pair of teens wasted at a house party, holding hands as they stared up at the ceeling.
* “...Do you think they’ll be twins?” Saeyoung joked, relishing in the small huff of laughter elicited from MC.
* “I don’t know if I’ll be able to handle another pair of twins in this household” MC teased back, “that’s like...quadruple the amount of pranks” she shrugged.
* They stared at the peels on the paint, content in the silence before Saeyoung propped himself up on his elbows, turning to his side so he could rest a hand on MC’s abdomen.
* “Think it-they-whatever, think our child can hear me?” he asked, trying his best to hide the creeping blush blooming up his neck.
* MC hummed. “I’m not sure”, she admitted, “but I think you should try and speak to them regardless.”
* Saeyoung nodded, taking a moment to compose himself. “Hey baby. Or babies. Or whoever it is in there” he laughed, “um, this-this is your dad. Don’t confuse me with your uncle, otherwise I’ll be super sad okay?!” He rolled his eyes as MC’s belly shook with laughter, waiting for her to calm down before he continued.
* “Listen...I’ve always dreamed of being a dad, and of having a big happy family. I’d tell my brother-that’s your uncle, I’d tell him every day when we were young that when we grow up we’ll live together in a biig house, and we’ll have a toy factory together, and I’ll have a direct line to Santa Claus so I could help him provide gifts to all the kids in the world-and that I’d have my own big family, and that my kids would always get any toy they want, and if that toy didn’t exist, then I’d make it for them. And...and I’ll do that for you too. So if there’s anything you want, start thinking about it, and I’ll make it for you. Anything.”
* He smiled, stroked his thumb across MC’s belly. “I need you to know I love your mom very very much. If she wasn’t here, I don’t think I’d ever be able to dream of having a family and being a dad again. So...so you should know she’s an amazing person, and that I’ll forever be grateful she stumbled into my life, and that she chose me out of everyone else out there.”
* He looked to MC, leaned back down to knock his forehead across hers.
* “Thank you”, he whispered, “thank you for the best gift I could’ve ever asked for”.
V/JIHYUN:
* This happened after the two had adopted Lucy. Their daughter was a bundle of joy, an angel that brought so much happiness to their daily life, that Jihyun could barely even remember the horrors of his past.
* Even if he were to ocassionaly have a nightmare or remember a horrible memory, MC would be there to hold his hand, or Lucy would be there with her big smile and tight hugs, the two chasing all the bad things away.
* Lucy was also equally happy, absoloutely adoring her parents and her uncles and aunt of the RFA-there was only one tiiiny complaint she had...
* “Mommy, daddy? Can I have a baby brother or sister to play with? Pleaaase?” she’d ask, sweetly blinking those big blue eyes of hers as if she was asking for a new toy or a candy, ignoring the awkward looks her parents shared trying to think of how to explain to her that they can’t just...bring a baby sibling to her on demand.
* This led to an awkward talk of the different ways babies come into a family; from the belly into the world, and then into the arms of a loving mom and dad, be it biological or not. Luckily, Lucy never seemed upset about being adopted; the two always worried wether it was right to tell her from such an early age, but Jihyun prided honesty above all else, so the two decided to ease her into the topic, making sure to shower her with love and affection so she’d know that how she came to be their daughter didn’t matter to them at all-they were just happy to have her in their lives.
* But lo and behold; her wish really did come true.
* One day Jihyun and Lucy were in the back garden playing with watercolours, making the white t-shirts they were both wearing a swirling mixtrue of colours. As Jihyun came back inside to wash up, he found MC in their bedrooms’ bathroom, holding something in one hand, the other covering her mouth as if in shock.
* “MC...? What’s wrong, is everything alright?”
* She turned to him, eyes teared up which only added to his worry as he looked down to her hands, finally noticing the stick she was holding.
* Slowly, he put two and two together, his brows raising. “You-this is....are you..?”
* MC nodded, biting her lip as Jihyun gasped, laughed, a quiet huff at first before he burst into a full laughter, tears welling at his eyes as he gripped MC by the waist and swirled her around, holding her tight.
* Lucy walked into their bedroom at that very moment, peering in curiously at the commotion. “I wanna lift too! Me too!” she giggled, running to her dad with her arms extended.
* Gleefully Jihyun picked her up, bringing both her and MC close for a family group hug.
* “Lucy, honey, you said you wanted a baby brother or sister right?” MC asked, stroking her daughter’s hair as Jihyun held her up to their eye level. Lucy nodded furiously, her cheeks red, eyes gleaming.
* “Do you still want one now?” MC continued, biting her lip to stop from smiling. Lucy nodded again. “Yes!! Yes, I do, I want one! And I want to help them drink their milk and put them to bed when they have bad dreams. And when they grow up we’ll play together all the time!” she beamed, Jihyun hiding his grin into her hair as MC nodded along to her daughter’s words.
* “Well baby, you’ll get a sibling soon. Mommy has a baby right here” Jihyun explained, bringing a hand to touch MC’s abdomen, “and when they’re born you’ll be a big sister!”
* Lucy was in awe, staring at her mom’s belly like it was made of gold. “There’s a baby in there?!” she pointed, looking incredulously to her parents.
* Jihyun nodded, gently leaning down to let Lucy back on the ground. “They’re still very very small”, MC began to explain, “but as they grow you’ll even be able to feel them kick and move”.
* Suffice to say, everyone in their little family was thrilled at the news. Jihyun was worried, ever a worry-rat even when Lucy was a baby, but Lucy was already preparing to be a big sister, insisting on coming along with her parents at every doctor’s visit, asking the doctors a dozen questions each time.
* As the baby grew and MC’s pregnancy got heavier, she could see the worry plaguing Jihyun, a concern he refused to voice. But MC was no fool-she could tell what it is he was thinking.
* “You know”, she told him one night, as she rested her hands on her growing baby bump, “I wish they’ll have your eyes-that gentle gaze of yours, it’ll be really nice if they inherit it from you.”
* Jihyun sighed at her words, turning on his side to bring a hand over her belly. “I don’t...MC, you know what I fear. I don’t want them to be anything like me I don’t-I don’t want them to go through anything remotely similar to what I did, to be anything like me, like I was, like I still am if I stop trying to change-I want them to have a good life. Them and Lucy..I want them to be happy.”
* MC pouted, gripping Jihyun’s hand, interlacing it with hers. “What you went through didn’t happen because of who you were, only because of the circumstances you were put under. You’re kind-hearted, self-less, caring and gentle, and yes, you put others above yourself and are quick to carry all the burden even when there’s others around you willing to lessen the load. But none of those are bad qualities Jihyun. And improving yourself isn’t a goal-directed process, it’s an open-ended journey. I hope our kids grow up to be like you.”
* Suffice to say, Jihyun was floored. MC had read him like a book, and he knew that, even if he initially didn’t want to admit it. Eventually he laughed, shaking his head. “I love you, you know that?”
* MC rolled her eyes.
* “I sure hope so”, she teased.
I went a ~little~ overboard with these but listen I’ve been doing ObGyn work for nearly a month now so it had to serve as inspiration somehow hehe
A Stitched Story (END)
JSE Fanfic
Man...this is it. The last one. That’s...wow. This was an AU three years in the writing, and with this, it’s over. I just...wow. I’m gonna need to just think about that for a second. Maybe wait a bit before starting something new. Anyway, this is basically wrapping everything up, taking care of all the final plot points and loose ends. There are emotional moments, including one big one, but...wow. I just have to keep saying that over and over again, it’s all I feel. The boys are settling down. Finally. Man, they’ve earned it.
Tagging @septic-dr-schneep for inspiring this AU with this post.
It was surprisingly sunny, for an autumn day. Busy, too. Cars rushed through the streets, and pedestrians populated the pavement. Jameson shielded his eyes from the sun’s glare as he peered around a street corner and saw their destination. We’re almost there. One more block, he said, tapping the message out in Morse code on a nearby lamppost.
“Good, I hope we are not late,” Schneep replied. “What time is it?”
JJ checked the clock on his phone. 1:25. Do you think it’s already over?
“Possibly. In any case, it would be better to be early.” Schneep turned the corner, speeding up, running his cane over the sidewalk to check for cracks. JJ hurried to catch up. “Chase would be upset if we are not there.”
He’ll be fine, JJ said reassuringly, now tapping the message on Schneep’s arm. But I suppose we can make haste.
The two of them soon arrived at their destination, turning into the hospital parking lot and walking towards the building’s front entrance. “Oh! I think he is here, yes?” Schneep said.
Yes, I can see him. JJ waved. Chase was standing outside the glass doors, bouncing on his feet and scanning the area. He had his usual bandanna and cap, but was wearing a new sweater, one that the others had given him as a group birthday present to make up for missing it a few months ago, and an old backpack Stacy had lent him. Once he saw JJ waving he smiled, and waved back.
“Ha! Knew it. I am getting good at this,” Schneep said proudly. “If only sensing souls could help with telling apart the toothpaste and burn cream.”
JJ laughed, muffled as usual, and the two of them hurried across the parking lot. Chase ran up to meet them at the edge of the sidewalk. “Hey guys!” he said. “Good to see you.”
“Good to see you too,” Schneep said lightheartedly. “Well, well? Did everything go fine?”
“Oh, uh, mostly.” Chase rolled up the sleeves of his sweater. He wasn’t wearing his wristbands. Instead, there were white bandages. “She managed to get the ones on my wrists off, but said she didn’t want to risk messing with the one on my neck. It’s close to an artery or something? I don’t know, it was some complicated medical stuff.”
“Ah. That is too bad,” Schneep said sadly. Jameson shook his head sympathetically. “But it is glad to hear some of the stitches are gone. I told you that Darla was good. Trustworthy, too. She will not tell anyone.”
“If you say so, doc.” Pulling his sleeves down, Chase turned to JJ. “Are you sure you don’t want to try? I mean, it’s a lot more inconvenient for you than it is for me.”
JJ hesitated, then nodded. I am fine, he signed. I’ve gotten used to it, and yes, there are many downsides, but considering what happened last week, I think it is good enough.
“Man. If you’re really sure,” Chase said reluctantly. “They’re already a bit looser, right? Maybe whatever magic’s making them hard to cut through will fade over time.”
“Wait, Jameson, did you bring up last week?” Schneep whacked JJ’s legs with his cane. “I said that you should not try yourself! Things could go wrong!” He paused. “But everything is fine, right?”
Yes, it was a shallow cut, JJ said. Your scissors are pretty sharp.
“I know. They are not normal, and I am starting to think they were always supposed to be weapons.” Schneep sighed. “Well, I am putting them away soon.”
JJ and Chase exchanged a significant look. “You’re gonna put them away?” Chase repeated.
Schneep nodded. “If I need them again, it won’t be hard to pull them out.”
In the month since they’d finally gotten rid of the strings, Schneep had kept carrying the scissors around. Just in case, he’d said. Just in case those glowing green strands of black magic managed to worm their way back into the world. But the past month had been quiet. Busy in other ways, but nothing had appeared to attack any of them. So maybe ‘just in case’ wasn’t going to come. Maybe it would be fine to leave them at home. Or, well, in whatever pocket dimension they came from.
“If you’re sure, doc,” Chase said. “A-anyway, it’s a bit past 1:30. We should hurry, or we’ll be late to meet up with the others. You guys walked here? C’mon, there’s a bus stop across the street.”
We’d definitely be on time if you drove us, JJ said teasingly.
“Hey, I can’t be blamed for not having a car.”
Ask Stacy.
“Nah, it’s fine. I should practice a bit before I do any serious driving, anyway. It’s been a while.”
“You took the bus here?” Schneep asked, puzzled. “But what about people sitting next to you?”
“It’s okay, I just put the backpack next to me. And it’s alright if it’s you guys.” Chase stepped off the sidewalk curb and onto the parking lot asphalt. “Now let’s go.”
The bus ride was short, and soon the three of them were getting off at a stop outside a small restaurant—or, more of a cafe, really. Despite being near lunchtime, the place was almost empty when they walked in. Soft piano music was playing over a speaker system, and a chalk signboard near the front entrance read “Please Seat Yourselves” with a hand-drawn smiley face. Chase read the sign out loud, and the three of them spotted the rest of the group, sitting at a table in the corner of the dining area, right by a window.
Jack had looked up at the sound of the bell chiming when the door opened. “Hey, they’re here,” he said to the other two sitting at the table.
“Huh? Oh, good.” Jackie was turning the menu over and over, listening to the sound of the laminated paper against the air. Marvin didn’t say anything. His head was leaning against the glass of the window, eyes closed, a pair of earbuds blocking out most sound. But he did make a small sound of acknowledgement.
“Hey guys.” Chase arrived first, taking the chair across from Marvin, next to the wall. Schneep and JJ took the next two. “Did you already order?”
“No, I told the waiter that we were waiting for people,” Jack explained. “But, more importantly, how’d it go? Are they gone?”
“Wrists are.” Chase once again pulled back his sleeves. For a moment, Jackie glanced at the bandages on his wrists, then bit his lip and looked away. “Apparently the neck stitches are too close to an artery or something. She didn’t want to mess with it.”
“Shit. Well, two out of three’s not bad,” Jack said.
“Jack, my friend, how are the repairs going?” Schneep asked.
“Pretty good, I think. The walls just got repainted, and the living room has new chairs and stuff. Still a long way to go.” Jack laughed. “Honestly I’m just glad that the water and Internet didn’t go out.”
Are the police still talking to you? JJ asked.
“No, not really. You guys?”
The other three all shook their heads. Dealing with the police had been...complicated. They had to, of course. They couldn’t just go back to their old lives without people asking “what the hell happened to you?!”JJ had it the easiest, in a way. Nobody had reported him missing, which was a bit sad when he thought about it, and all the regular patrons of his shop had assumed it closed down. Jack and Chase had more difficulty, since they were pretty public figures. The moment Jack had uploaded a video explaining he was back, the Internet had gone up in flames wondering where he’d been.
In the end, they all decided on the same story. It was pretty lame, as Chase often said, but it worked. They all just lied and said they didn’t remember anything. Weird stitches on Chase’s wrists and neck? Nope. Scars all over Jack’s body? Don’t know what happened there. Schneep losing an entire sense and gaining weird scars that looked like tears dripping from his eyes? No idea, officer. The police had prodded them, but eventually given up, essentially leaving the case unsolved and concluding it was a strange psychological phenomenon. The case would go down in history, but nobody would know the truth.
Of course, when it came to Marvin and Jackie coming back to life, things were going to be a bit difficult. Fortunately, they had magic on their side.
“Have any of you heard from Yvonne?” Jack asked, sliding each of them a menu.
“Dude, why would she talk to me? I’m the least magical person here,” Chase said.
Not since she offered to help, JJ added.
Schneep merely shook his head and picked up the menu. “Oh! They actually have—”
“Yeah, I explained the situation when the waiter came over and he gave me a Braille copy,” Jack explained. “Anyway, she called me the other day. Says that the records should be all fixed now.”
“I still say that can’t be legal,” Chase muttered.
“It’s not.” Everyone jumped, a bit surprised to hear Marvin talk. He didn’t move from his position against the window or open his eyes, but he did continue. “She’s not really into stuff being legal, you know. Normal laws or magic laws. Always thought they got in the way, that...that...her. That...name.”
“Yvonne.” Jackie gently bumped Marvin’s shoulder with his own.
“Right.”
Jack gave the others a meaningful look. Memory issues. One of the lingering side effects Marvin and Jackie were dealing with. They could forget something in seconds. Jackie had taken to writing things down, if not with an actual pen and paper, then by finger-spelling it on his hand over and over. Marvin just sort of let it happen, only writing down the really important stuff. “Anyway, it’s all fixed,” Jack continued, looking back over at the other two. “You guys can...y’know, start doing stuff again. When you want. Move out, if you feel like it.”
“Thanks,” Jackie said. He sounded oddly reluctant. Marvin didn’t even bother to answer.
Chase cleared his throat. “Speaking of moving out, Schneep, did you get your apartment back yet?”
Schneep scowled. “I am so close. The stupid building owner is still insisting on keeping it all preserved, and I say, ‘for what?!’ You are clearly not going to sell it, if everything is still how it is when I was living there. So just let me live in! The police do not care anymore, anyway, so there is no crime scene!”
He probably liked the idea of having a flat where someone who disappeared lived, JJ suggested. It lends a bit of mystery and gives the building a reputation. People might want to move in because of that.
“Well he will still have it! I will just be actually there!” Schneep folded his arms and leaned back in the chair. “Ugh. Jamie, I like you, but your guest room is tiny.”
JJ gave a huff of a laugh. Sorry, Hen. I’d never really needed one before so I didn’t hear any complaints.
“Oh, Chase, what about you? How’s the house search coming?” Jack asked.
“Fine.” Chase shrugged. “I got a few to look at. Y’know Stacy doesn’t seem to mind me staying over. I was surprised, given how she, um...wanted to move out so much a few years ago.”
“Well, things change,” Jack said cheerfully.
“Yeah. I guess that’s an upside of this, we’re, like...friends.” Chase said the word in a tone of bewildered, but welcomed, happiness. The way someone would react to hearing good news that they’d thought was no longer an option. “Again, I mean. A-and I don’t think it’s gonna go further, but...still.”
“That’s great, my friend.” Schneep patted the back of Chase’s hand.
“Yeah, that’s great!” Jackie repeated, suddenly enthusiastic. “So, like, we should order food, right?”
“Oh right.” Jack nodded. “Hang on.” He stood up, looking towards the back of the restaurant where the door to the kitchen was. A waiter was walking out at that moment, and caught sight of the group, quickly indicating he’d be right there. “Oh, nice. I was confused, really, if like this was the type of place where people would come over or if we had to go up there.” Jack sat back down and picked up the menu. “We should go all out. This is a celebration.”
I think I can get a drink, JJ signed slowly.
“Really?” Jack asked, surprised.
Yes, I think the stitches have loosened up enough for that, JJ said more confidently. A small straw or a bit of liquid. Just so long as nobody’s looking when I take off my mask.
“Awesome, man,” Chase said cheerfully. “Honestly, this place looked good on the website. We should get a lot.”
“Celebration,” Schneep repeated, then nodded. “Yes. Yes, that sounds wonderful. Celebration lunch.”
And for most of them, it was just that, wonderful. They were meeting up again, the last of their troubles were ending. Things were looking up.
But a corner of the table was a bit gloomier. Jackie and Marvin were pretty quiet all throughout the lunch. Neither of them ate that much. Marvin kept his eyes closed or looking down at his plate, and Jackie paid more attention to the salt and pepper shakers than anything else. Once the lunch was over and after everyone said their goodbyes, they followed Jack back to his apartment, where they were staying, and drifted off to separate activities. A book for Marvin, an old laptop for Jackie.
They never once said anything to each other.
Ignisa: a spell to conjure fire.
Marvin read the simple command word over and over, repeating it mentally. Ignisa. Ignisa. It was one of the simplest spells out there, and one of the first ones he learned. He could visualize the page of the book he read it in. He remembered it. Really, he did. Most of the time. For the occasions that he didn’t he’d written down the command and what it did on a spare bit of paper.
“Ignisa,” he whispered, staring down at his hands, cupped as if to hold water. He sat in the center of the floor in the spare bedroom, as far away from furniture as possible. “Ignisa. Ig-NI-sa. IG-ni-sa. Ig-ni-SA.” Yet, no matter how many times he repeated it, no matter how he pronounced it or how loud he spoke it, no matter how much he concentrated on the feeling of fire bursting forth in his hands...there wasn’t even a spark.
“Fuck.” Marvin gave up, burying his face in his hands. He squeezed his eyes to contain tears of frustration, but he still let one or two sobs slip out. Why couldn’t he do anything? No fire, no lights, no telekinesis. All the magic he remembered was useless. The only spell that sort of worked was teleportation, in fact he actually found it easier now than it used to be, but he couldn’t quite control it. If he was lucky, he’d end up close to where he wanted to be, and if he was unlucky, he teleported to the middle of the sky twenty miles away. That...hadn’t been a fun evening.
There were only a few spells that worked perfectly for him. Taking a few deep breaths, Marvin lifted his head up, and pressed his hands close together, palm to palm. Slowly, he pulled them away from each other. In the space between them were blue glowing threads of magic, which got longer the farther apart his hands got. If he wanted, he could use these strings like a weapon, grabbing things, pinning them to the wall, and maybe with practice he could use them to swing, like some sort of discount magical Spider-Man. But he didn’t want to. He didn’t want anything to do with these. Scowling, Marvin brushed his hands together, and the strings disappeared.
Someone knocked on the door, and Marvin yelped in surprise. He quickly got to his feet. “Wh-who is it?”
“It’s Jack,” a voice said. “Can I come in?”
“Um...sure.”
Jack opened the door, poking his head in through the gap. “Hey Jackie’s making noodles for dinner. Do you want any?”
Did he? Marvin wasn’t really hungry. He didn’t really feel hungry that often anymore. Or maybe he did, and just couldn’t recognize the feeling. Jackie was the same way, but that didn’t stop him from trying to eat. After a bit, Marvin decided it would probably be better safe than sorry. “...Sure.”
“Okay, I’ll tell him.” Jack hesitated. “Do you...want anything? Need anything?”
Marvin hesitated. He glanced over at Jack before looking away. Wait, why was one of Jack’s eyes a slightly different shade of blue? When had that—oh. Right. “No.”
“Alright...if you’re sure,” Jack said reluctantly. “Come out whenever you’re ready.” And with that, he left.
Just in time, too. Marvin backed up until his legs hit the edge of the bed. Immediately, he fell back onto the mattress, pressing his hands against his eyes. “Stop thinking about it,” he said to himself. “Stop thinking about it, stop it, stop.” That only seemed to make it worse. Images flashed in his head, leftover memories that weren’t his, but also were, and were also Jackie’s and someone else’s. The others called him Anti. Anti’s memories. They would pop up whenever something triggered them, and that ‘something’ was usually one of the others. Right now, the memories were about Jack, about what happened to his eye. Marvin could hear himself—no, Anti—laughing.
Shaking, Marvin slowly stood up again, staggering across the room to the door. Why was it that sometimes, his balance just didn’t work? Why was he so clumsy now? He grabbed the doorknob but didn’t open it, just pressing his forehead into the wood. These were the consequences for his actions. The memories, the problems with his magic, the lack of balance. It was all his fault. If he hadn’t gotten into his head that trying the transference spell would be fine, that not telling Jackie wouldn’t cause any problems...It hadn’t even been about helping people, like how Jackie probably wanted to, he just wanted to see if he could do it, to see if he could increase his power. And he caused everything. So this was his punishment. Served him right.
“Marvin says he wants dinner,” Jack said, leaning into the kitchen/dining room.
“Okay,” Jackie said cheerfully, grabbing another bowl from the cabinet. It was easy, since that particular cabinet was missing its door. It would probably stay that way for a while, too, since with all the other repairs the apartment required it wasn’t a high enough priority. Jackie set the bowl on the counter next to two others, then looked over at the pot of water. It wasn’t steaming or boiling. Did he forget to turn the heat on? He tapped the edge of the burner under the pot.
“Jackie!” Jack gasped.
“Oh, it’s fine, it’s not on,” Jackie assured him. “I was just checking.”
“You mean you didn’t know if it was on?!”
“It probably wasn’t.” Jackie looked up to see the dial hadn’t been turned. Oh. He probably could have looked at the dial before touching the burner. Well, whatever. He reached over and turned the dial to the 7 mark.
“Please be careful,” Jack said, looking nervous. “You could get hurt.”
“I am being careful,” Jackie said. It didn’t really matter, anyway. He was having trouble feeling pain lately. Or...most things, actually. It was weird, he was a bit numb. Not by too much, but enough to be noticeable, to know that he hadn’t been like that before. Marvin was just the opposite, nowadays he was constantly being overwhelmed with the texture and feel of things. But he was always more sensitive to sensations than the rest of them.
“Well, be even more careful,” Jack insisted. He backed out of the kitchen. “I’m gonna, uh, hang out in the living room. Tell me if you need anything.”
“Okay,” Jackie nodded. “Don’t worry about me.”
“Alright.” Jack hesitated for a second before turning away and leaving.
Everything was fine. Jack really didn’t need to worry, Jackie had everything covered. Making food was easy, really. It was something that he did all the time. The process was automatic, especially for making pasta. Just wait for a bit, occasionally stirring, then drain the water. It was all good. This was a normal thing that normal people did. Things were normal.
Of course, Jackie knew that every single thing he’d just thought to himself was a lie. But it was easier to pretend. Sometimes he pretended so hard that it felt like he was watching a movie filmed in the first-person, instead of actually existing in this body.
Oh, it was happening now, actually. Jackie watched as his hand pulled open the cutlery drawer and took out a long spoon. Then the hand started stirring the pasta in the pot. It was starting to get hot now. There was steam. How hot was it? The other hand reached forward and—
“Shit!” Jackie snapped back to reality, pulling his hand away from the side of the metal pot. “Ah. Fuck.” He looked down. The skin of his fingers was a bit red and tender. He opened and closed his fist a few times to help the leftover burning feeling fade away.
“Is everything okay?” Jack was back, apparently having heard Jackie shout. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine, just brushed against the side,” Jackie explained.
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah. Of course.”
“Well...okay, then.” Jack reluctantly backed out of view.
Everything was fine. Oh look, the pasta was suddenly done. Time had just flown past. Jackie poured the pasta into the strainer and then scooped it into the bowls. Marvin showed up, and then Jack, and they all ate in silence, after which Jack excused himself to go back to his recording room to do some editing. The moment he’d replaced all the broken computer parts, he’d gone back to making videos, though not nearly as frequently as before. That was...nice. Nice that he could do that.
Jackie wondered what he was supposed to do now. Not just for the rest of the day, but...for the rest of ever. He wanted things to be fine, to be normal, and he was pretty good at pretending they were. But they. Just. Weren’t. He couldn’t find the energy to start looking for a job, or for a new apartment, or even for new clothes. But at the same time, he didn’t want to keep borrowing from Jack. He didn’t want to just stay in place, but he couldn’t move forward.
At one point, he’d thought about going back out onto the streets. He didn’t know what happened to his old super suit, but he could make a new one. Then that train of thought had immediately crashed to a halt with a flash of memory. Not his, but also his. Anti’s. A memory with so much pain in it, and feeling glad at that pain. Somehow triumphantly vindicated to see suffering. No. Someone like that couldn’t be a hero.
So things continued. The same things. Every day.
Everything was fine.
Time passed. Autumn progressed, and it became cooler as September blended into October. Jack kept fixing up the apartment, and it was beginning to look good as new. Schneep finally convinced the building owner to let him back into his place, and so he moved out of JJ’s building. Chase was still having trouble finding a house, but he was glad to spend more time with Lily and Moira, absolutely doting on the two of them. Business at JJ’s shop started to pick up again, though he had to get used to carrying around a notepad since most customers didn’t know sign language.
Jackie and Marvin stayed where they were.
One night, a storm rolled over the city. Rain pounded the ground, thunder rumbled in the distance, and nobody went out of their houses. That night, Marvin went into the apartment’s bathroom and pressed his face against the small window to watch the storm. There wasn’t much to see. The glass was cloudy for privacy. But there was water running down the other side, droplets racing each other to the bottom.
Then there was a flash, and a fork of lightning split the window in half. A second later came the thunder. Marvin heard someone gasp, and jumped, spinning around to see Jackie standing in the open bathroom doorway. “Oh. Sorry,” Jackie muttered. “I just saw the lights on in here and—nevermind.”
Marvin just looked at him for a bit, then turned back to the window. Jackie stood there for a moment, then started to turn away.
“Jackie?”
He stopped at the sound of Marvin’s quiet voice. “Yeah?”
“Are we...bad people?”
Jackie didn’t answer, and that was an answer on its own.
“Should we...be here?”
“What do you mean?” Jackie asked.
Marvin started pulling at his fingers. “Just...what if something...happens?”
Jackie paled. “I-it’ll be okay. It’s all okay.”
“Okay.”
Neither of them moved. Then, quietly, Jackie admitted something. “I don’t want to be here.”
“You don’t?” Marvin finally turned around.
“I don’t think I should,” Jackie whispered. “Just...everyone is nice to us. But we...hurt them. Or, kind of us. I mean, he was still us, right?”
Marvin nodded. “I remember doing it.”
“Me too.”
“He can’t come back, though. Right?”
“I mean...no,” Jackie said slowly. “But what if we...what if something happens?” He echoed Marvin’s own words back at him.
Marvin was silent for a moment. “I don’t want to be here, either.”
“Should we leave?”
“What would we do?”
“I don’t know.” Jackie glanced down the hall, towards Jack’s bedroom. “But they’re...good people. And we’re.... We don’t...” He trailed off.
Another crack of thunder.
“Should we leave a note?” Marvin asked.
“No. They can figure it out. Should we stay together?”
“Maybe at first.”
“Okay.”
A few minutes later, the power in the apartment building went out. Jack left his bedroom, holding a flashlight. “Hey guys? The storm knocked the lights out. You okay?”
No answer. Not surprising, Jackie and Marvin could be pretty quiet. So Jack went to look for them.
But...they weren’t there. Not in the spare bedroom, not in the bathroom, not in the kitchen, not in the living room. “Guys?” he called, voice rising in worry. “Guys?!”
Still no answer. Swearing under his breath, Jack went back to his bedroom and picked up his phone from where he’d left it. He opened up the group chat and sent a message.
Jackie and Marvin are gone. I think they’ve left.
— — — — — — —
It was still storming when they got off the bus to look around. With the rain pouring down, it was hard to make out details of anything. There were the vague, tall shapes of buildings, the long stretches of clear roads and sidewalks...but everything else was a bit cloudy. “We should’ve brought an umbrella,” Marvin said, trying to shield himself from the rain by covering his head with his arms. It didn’t work.
“I didn’t think he had one,” Jackie said, peering through the falling water. “Do you want my jacket?”
“No, I’m fine.” Marvin shivered.
“I...okay, if you’re sure you’re alright,” Jackie said reluctantly. “Here, there’s a street sign over on that corner.” He walked up to the sign, Marvin trailing after him. “Uh...Everwood Lane. I...I don’t remember where that is. Do you?”
“No,” Marvin admitted. They hadn’t really had much of a plan, had they? Just up and left, trusting they’d figure it out in the moment. Saw a bus stopping at a nearby station, and hopped aboard, pretending to swipe bus passes so the driver, who wasn’t really paying any attention, wouldn’t notice. Then they’d gotten off at random, once they realized they’d been sitting in the bus for a while and they had to be far away by then. Why had they thought any of that would be a good idea? Why had he just gone along with it?
“Well, uh. Let’s get inside.” Jackie pressed on, now walking up to the entrance of the nearest building. “Maybe we can ask someone in there, and it’ll be dry.” See? This would work out.
Luckily, that building turned out to be open, and they stepped into a front hall. It looked nice, but was completely empty. The only things of note were the pair of elevators, the door labelled ‘Stairwell,’ another unlabelled door, and a directory on a sign attached to the wall.
“No one’s here,” Marvin muttered.
“Someone has to be here, everything’s on.” Jackie scanned the directory. The building was nine floors tall, plus the ground floor, and every floor was listed as belonging to some business, each with operating hours attached. “Uh...what time is it?”
“...I don’t remember,” Marvin said. “And there’s no clock here. And we don’t have phones.”
“It’s fine, we’ll—we’ll just check around,” Jackie said optimistically. He walked over to the unmarked door and grabbed the handle, starting to push it open. Only to stop short when the door wouldn’t budge. Locked. Okay. That was fine. There were more options. Jackie turned around. “C’mon, we’ll take the lifts.”
“Mm-hmm.” Marvin nodded, following him to the elevators.
The elevator arrived, doors sliding open, and the two of them stepped in. “Right, we’ll just start with the first floor,” Jackie said, pressing the button. He waited for a few seconds, but the elevator wasn’t moving. The button hadn’t lit up. “Um...” He pressed it again. Then a couple more times. Then he tried the other buttons, pushing them hard.
“There’s a card reader attached,” Marvin pointed out, nodding towards a black box mounted on the elevator’s panel. “I don’t think it’ll work without the right card.”
“Oh.” Jackie was momentarily at a loss, but then he recovered. They just had to keep moving. That’s all. “I guess we’ll take the stairs, then.”
The stairwell was tall, white, and empty, metal stairs spiralling upwards with only a railing keeping the people walking up and down from falling off. Jackie led the way, climbing up the stairs quickly with Marvin a bit behind. But there was no luck. All the doors that led into the floors were blocked by the same card readers as in the elevators. Just in case, Jackie still tried to open them, both pushing and pulling, but to no avail. So they just kept climbing, stopping at every story so Jackie could try the doors with increasing desperation, while Marvin watched him with increasing annoyance.
Until finally, they reached the last door, this one labelled ‘Roof Access.’ Surprisingly, this one didn’t have a card reader. Jackie hesitated, then pushed it open, letting in a spray of rain from the storm outside.
“Okay, this was useless,” Marvin said. “Let’s—”
“Well, maybe there’s someone outside,” Jackie suggested.
“In the rain?”
But Jackie was already heading out, pulling on his hood as he stepped into the storm.
Of course there wasn’t anyone there. Disregarding the misery of the weather, it was hard to see anything, including the railing that marked the edge of the roof. It would be dangerous to be up there. But Jackie still walked forward, looking around, until he eventually found that railing along the edge, grabbing the rain-slicked metal to orient himself.
“No one’s here!” Marvin shouted over a clap of thunder. He’d followed Jackie out onto the roof and was now standing about an arm’s length behind him, looking extremely unhappy about the whole situation. “Let’s go!”
“Right.” Jackie nodded. “We’ll just—just try another building, and ask where we are.”
“Then what?”
“Then we’ll—we’ll get a hotel.”
“How will we pay for it?”
“Uh...okay, not a hotel. We’ll...find our way to someone’s house, o-or something, and ask if we can stay.”
“What if no one lets us in?”
“We’ll—we’ll find an empty building.” Jackie grasped desperately at a way to salvage this situation, a way that wouldn’t involve them going back. He wasn’t even sure he could find his way back; he’d forgotten Jack’s address somewhere on the way. “Yeah. And then we’ll go to sleep, and in the morning, figure out a better plan. Yeah! It’s fine. Everything will be fi—”
“Everything will not be fucking fine, Jackie!” Marvin suddenly burst out. “This was a terrible idea! Why did we think to do this?! Why did I go along with it?! It’s raining, there’s lightning, we’re lost, my clothes are wet which I hate more than murder, and you’re being delusional!”
“I—I am being optimistic!” Jackie spluttered, letting go of the railing so he could face Marvin head-on. “I am trying to make the best of a difficult situation—”
“We shouldn’t even be out here!” Marvin interrupted. Another crack of thunder rang throughout the sky, even louder than before. “You suggested this! Why’d you suggest it?”
“Well, why did you ask if we should’ve been staying with the others if you weren’t prepared to leave?” Jackie countered. “You didn’t have to come with me! You didn’t have to go out at all!”
“Oh yeah, what was I going to do, tell Jack and the others, ‘sorry, I don’t know where they went, they said they were leaving and I thought that was alright’? No!”
“You could’ve convinced me to stay!” Jackie shouted. “You could’ve shot it down when I said it! But you went along, so you must have wanted to leave, too!”
“I—yeah, but it was more of a vague thing!” Marvin protested. “A what-if! I didn’t expect us to go right then!”
Jackie grabbed Marvin by the shirt. “Then why did you leave?! Why did we leave?! Why did we want to leave?!”
The sky lit up a brilliant white, electricity crashing. A bolt of lightning had hit a lightning rod attached to the building’s roof, only a room’s width away from the two of them. Sparks flew. Marvin screamed. Jackie instinctively covered him, hugging him tight to his chest and bending over. The sound was deafening, thunder right next to their heads, and even after it faded their ears echoed with the remains of it.
“Holy shit!” Jackie gasped, blinking the brilliant light from his eyes. His eyes...which were now glowing. The left was bright green, the right an equally bright red. Marvin’s were also glowing, though his right eye was the green one, and the other one was blue. “That was—oh my god. Marvin, are you okay?”
Marvin didn’t answer for a moment. He just stared at the lightning rod, still faintly glowing from being struck. And then...he let out a quiet sob.
“M...Marvin?” Jackie took a closer look at him, and realized his face wasn’t just wet from the rain. “Hey, it’s okay.”
“No, it’s fucking not,” Marvin cried. “All I could think about while we were walking up those stairs—all I could think about were the memories, the—you know the ones, the—I wasn’t even there, I was somewhere else. I hate this. I hate this! I hate what’s happened to me! I hate that it’s my fault!”
“Your fault?!” Jackie repeated.
“My stupid fucking selfish spell,” Marvin sobbed. “It’s all because of that! Everything happened because of that! Of course I should’ve realized, if the things I did after the spell were—were like that, then of course! Of course I’m a horrible fucking person that wouldn’t care about what that spell might do!”
“Marvin—”
“And you’re just going around acting like everything is alright!” Marvin said, jabbing a finger into Jackie’s chest. “You just like—like nothing happened, you keep saying everything is fine, it might be for you, but it’s not for me! No it’s fine, it doesn’t matter!”
“I just want everything to move on, Marvin!” Jackie said, grasping Marvin’s upper arms and pulling him close. “Everything has to be fine, but it’s not, so I have to pretend it is! Because if I stop pretending, all I can think about is what I’ve done. Every time I look at the others, I remember how I hurt them! Every time I look at you, I remember how I killed you!”
Silence, and the sound of rain.
“I didn’t...didn’t know you felt that way,” Marvin said, barely audible.
“I didn’t know you did, either,” Jackie whispered.
“That’s ironic, isn’t it?” Marvin commented dully. “Aren’t we connected now? Aren’t our souls all...mixed up with each other?”
“Yeah...” Jackie nodded. “Yeah.”
The two of them stared at each other. Eyes wide, hearts pounding, breathing heavy. Letting themselves be rained on. Until—
The door to the rooftop burst open, and a couple flashlight beams fell onto the two of them.
“Marv!”
“Jackie!”
“My friends!”
It was the others. All of them. Chase was in front with Jack close behind, then Schneep in the back holding onto Jameson’s arm for extra support. “Are you two okay?!” Chase asked.
“What happened?!” Jack added.
Is everything alright? JJ signed.
“Why did you go?” Schneep said.
Jackie took a step backwards, letting go of Marvin, who was too in shock to even notice. “You guys...h-how’d you find us?”
“JJ did,” Chase explained.
Luckily the tracking spell still works, JJ said. How did you two even get here? It’s the other side of town!
“I...we took the bus,” Jackie said numbly. “How—why are you here?”
“We came to find you, of course!” Schneep said, as if it was obvious.
“Why?” Marvin asked quietly.
“What?! Because you’re our friends!” Chase said, gaping. “If you leave to go out with no note, no anything, in the middle of a thunderstorm—” Thunder rumbled in the distance as if to prove his point. “—and without any way for anyone to contact you, anything could have happened! We were so fucking worried!”
“...why?” Marvin repeated.
“You’re our friends,” Jack reiterated. “We care about you. What if you got hurt? That would be—fuck. I-I don’t even want to think about it.”
Jackie felt tears in his eyes, and he let them slip out, hidden by the rain. “But—but it was going to be better this way.”
“Better? Better?!” Schneep repeated incredulously. “No no no no no no, we went through so much to see you again. You cannot just disappear! And less expect us to be fine with it!”
“But...w-we—I—I hurt you!” Jackie blurted out. “So much! I mean, look at yourselves! You still have the scars!”
“That wasn’t you,” Chase said gently, slowly approaching. “That was Anti.”
“Well, Anti was us.”
“Anti was two parts you guys and, like, seventeen parts black magic,” Chase said. “It wasn’t your fault.”
“It feels like it,” Marvin muttered. “You’d say the same if you remembered doing it.”
“What if something happens?” Jackie said, his voice hushed. “What if we...while we’re around you guys, what if we...hurt you? Th-there’s a possibility, right? As long as we’re around.”
Jack’s next question was soft, almost unheard through the rain. “You don’t want to hurt anyone, right?”
“No!” Jackie said, aghast. Marvin shook his head furiously.
“Then you won’t,” Jack said firmly. “I mean, sure, there will be accidents. But you can’t run from everyone because you’re afraid you might hurt them. A life like that would be so lonely. We trust you. Both of you. And you trust us. That’s what friendship’s built on, isn’t it? Trust.”
Jackie fell silent. The four of them stood firm, agreeing with Jack’s sentiment. Did they...really want them to stay?
“We don’t—” Marvin stammered. “I-I-I don’t—we’re—I’m—not...the type of person...who should have friends.”
“What?” Jack asked, shocked.
“You’re all so nice, a-and good,” Marvin said. “We...I don’t...deserve you.”
“That is ridiculous,” Schneep said. “Marvin, and Jackie, you are both some of the best friends I ever had, and the same goes for everyone else.”
“We’re not...good people,” Marvin said desperately. “If we were Anti, we can’t have been. Good people wouldn’t become...that. A-and you’re all just saying it ‘cause you’re friends.”
Can I say something? JJ, who’d been waiting on the sidelines, finally spoke up. Look, I barely know either of you. I’m new to all this. But I can tell that neither of you are bad people. Flawed, yes, but so is everyone. Chase said that Anti was mostly black magic, and he’s right. You can’t be blamed for what that entity did; its perception was warped and broken. You two are nice, you seem smart, you’re friendly to others. You are not bad people.
“Look, I know, it’s hard to accept that you deserve nice things,” Chase jumped in. “But you do. You want to step away from friends and good things because you think you’re not worthy. It’s gonna be hard to accept that you are. But that’s why we’re here, okay? To help you accept that.”
“And to point out when you need something,” Schneep added. “Something that you think is above you. I swear, I will fight every single bad thought you have, anything that tells you that you do not deserve all the care and love that you do.”
Jack laughed a bit. “Yeah. We all will.”
Both of them were crying, and despite the falling rain, it was quite obvious. Marvin reached over and grabbed Jackie’s hand, pulling him close. “I...I’m sorry,” he choked out.
Jackie nodded. “I’m sorry,” he whispered, voice rasping. “I...we should...I’m going to go back. Are you going to?”
“Yeah. I’m going back, too.”
Jackie nodded again, then let go of Marvin’s hand. He took a deep breath, and walked over to join the others.
Marvin shivered. The rain was starting to feel even colder than it had before. But as he carefully stepped towards the group, it felt a bit warmer.
The moment the two were close, the remaining four huddled around them. Hands were held and tears were shed, slowly joining together in a tight group hug. Everyone kept saying how proud they were of them, how happy they were to have them back, how much they loved them. And more tears leaked out, though of a different sort of emotion altogether. They were so caught up in the moment that they didn’t even notice the rain until they headed back down the stairs.
And as the six headed home, the storm started to lessen.
“Can’t believe it’s actually snowing,” Jack muttered, brushing white flakes off his coat. “It never snows here.”
“I like it.” Jackie looked around, taking in the white blanket covering the park, then up at the sky. “Everything looks all clean. I like how the snow is all smooth.”
“Mm. Won’t be for long.” Jack pointed. The two of them were content to sit at a picnic table, sheltered from the snowfall by a nearby tree. But some ways away, two girls were running through the snow, pelting their dad with snowballs. Chase was laughing. It was good to see. Lily tripped over something in the snow, and he bent over to help her up. “There’s gonna be so many footprints when they’re done with it.”
“Aw.” Jackie frowned, pulling his coat closer. He didn’t really feel the cold, but it still affected him, so he had to make sure to dress appropriately for any weather. “Hey...when will the others be here? Do you think they forgot we were going to meet up?”
“I don’t—wait.” Jack paused. “Nope, there they are.”
A car pulled into the nearby lot, and three people stepped out. JJ recently got his license, so he and Chase had become the chauffeurs of the group. He looked around, then waved at the others, turning back to point them out to Marvin and Schneep. The three headed over, and Jack and Jackie made room for them at the table.
“It is so cold!” Schneep immediately started complaining. “There is going to be so much ice later, it is awful!”
“Oh shush, you like having cold weather so you can have warm drinks and stuff,” Marvin said.
“Okay, yes, but that is inside, where I cannot risk the chance of slipping,” Schneep griped.
JJ laughed. Speaking of warm drinks. He pulled his backpack off and rifled through it, taking out a couple thermoses. I thought if we were going to be meeting up out here, we should keep hot.
“Oh nice!” Jack grabbed one with his name written on the side in sharpie. “What’s this?”
Tea and coffee. And hot chocolate for the kids, JJ explained.
“Sweet,” Jackie said, leaning over to grab one as well.
“So, uh...” Jack cleared his throat, and turned to Marvin. “How’d it go?”
Marvin leaned back, rocking slightly on the picnic bench. “Good, I think. I mean, it’s just the first session, but...it was a good sign, I guess.”
“Hey, uh, Marv?” Jackie said. “I...forgot the address.”
“Oh. Right. It’s uh...Hang on a moment.” Marvin pulled out his phone, opening up the notes. “547 Norwich, on the east side. You can’t miss it, there’s a big sign with ‘Riverwood Counseling” on the front. You’re, uh...going soon?”
“Next week.” Jackie copied the address into his own phone. “‘M a bit nervous,” he mumbled.
“Nothing to be afraid of,” Schneep said encouragingly. “They are very good, very reputable. And if things are not working, they will transfer you to someone new without any charge.”
Jackie smiled a bit. “Well, I guess if you guys trust them.”
At that moment, Chase and the girls got tired of their snowball fight and came over to the table. “Hi!” Lily said brightly. “Ooooh, what’s that?”
“It’s a thermos,” Moira explained to her sister. “They’re for hot things like soup. And hot chocolate.”
“Well, would you look at that? There are two with your names on them,” Chase said brightly. “Here you go. JJ, you brought them, right?”
JJ nodded. Cocoa for them. And this one has some tea for you.
“Oh sweet! Thanks, Jays.”
It had been a few months, and the group had decided to meet up for some casual catching up. Chase had finally gotten a new house, just a rental but he hoped to find one for himself eventually. Schneep had started taking online classes. Since he couldn’t exactly continue his surgeon profession he decided to go back and find something else to do. He was particularly interested in physics, and he was convinced that it could explain how his new magic worked. Jack’s apartment was almost entirely repaired, and the Internet had finally settled down about his disappearance. JJ’s shop was picking up business again.
And Marvin and Jackie? Well, they’d found themselves a new place. A small townhouse, just big enough for both of them, part of a row of houses with connected walls. At first, they’d debated whether or not to continue living together or to live separately, but eventually decided on the former. After all, they still had problems, with memory and movement, and more, and decided it would be easier to live with someone who could help out. They were still working on finding new jobs. Jackie wanted something active, and Marvin wanted something quiet. The search was slow going, but they were making do. Jackie had been particularly bored at night, but didn’t want to go out and try being a vigilante again. Maybe eventually. Marvin was still relearning how to use his magic, and was teaching Jackie how to, as well, given Jackie’s new abilities.
The group had been talking for about half an hour when suddenly Moira tugged on the edge of Chase’s coat. “Dad? Who’s that? She’s been staring at us.”
Chase looked over towards where Moira was pointing, and his eyes widened. “Guys. Look who it is,” he said quietly.
The others all glanced in the same direction. “Shi—oh no,” Jack muttered. “It’s that—that magician. Delyth.”
JJ sighed. Well, I suppose it was only a matter of time.
“Who?” Marvin asked.
“She’s with the, uh, the magic police,” Jack explained.
“Oh fu—” Marvin quickly ducked his head, deliberately not looking over to where Delyth was standing, casually leaning against a tree.
“Should we talk to her?” Chase asked.
“I think so,” Schneep said. He paused, then stood up. “I will.”
“Wait, no, she’s coming over here!” Jackie gasped.
There was a sudden flurry of activity as the group tried to act casually, pretending they hadn’t seen her and weren’t keeping an eye on her as she walked over. Until eventually, they couldn’t pretend any longer.
Delyth stopped next to the table. “So...it is you,” she said slowly. “You know, you gave us one hell of a scare when you disappeared.”
“Hey, language,” Chase said, indicating the two small girls sitting next to him.
“Oh. Sorry.” Delyth paused. “We were looking for you, but it was like you all just...disappeared. Correct me if I’m wrong, but was a certain other magician helping with that?” Nobody answered. They weren’t about to throw Yvonne under the bus. Delyth shook her head. “Never should’ve given her access to ABIM systems,” she muttered.
“Did you want something?” Schneep asked.
“Hmm...well, no, not really.” Delyth looked them over, making eye contact with each. “You know, the ABIM is pretty busy. If a case hasn’t been active for two months, it’s deemed low priority, provided there’s no significant danger. If four months pass, we have to permanently shelve it, until there’s evidence for it becoming active again. Marked as unsolved, and people tend to forget about it.” She looked down at her watch. “Well, I have to go. It’s been nice seeing you all again. It’s been, what, five months?” After a moment, she nodded towards Jackie and Marvin. “Glad to see it all worked out. Goodbye.”
 The group remained mostly silent as she left, though Jack muttered a quiet “goodbye” and JJ waved as Delyth disappeared into a car in the parking lot and drove away. Then, once she was gone, Chase turned to the others. “What was that about?”
I think that was her saying the magicians won’t bother us, JJ signed, a bit in awe.
“Oh thank god,” Marvin breathed. “I don’t want to be on their bad side anymore. No more magic police, thank you very much.”
“She could have been a bit more direct with it, though,” Jackie added.
Jack just laughed. “Wow. So, I guess that’s the last we’ll see of her, then?”
“Provided nothing else strange happens to us,” Schneep pointed out.
“Well, I hope it doesn’t. I’ve had enough strangeness for my entire life.”
So...is it over, then? JJ asked slowly.
“Dad, what was that about?” Lily asked. “Who was that? What did she mean?” Moira nodded, agreeing with all the questions.
“Oh, it’s a bit complicated.” Chase pulled his daughter close and gave her a quick hug. “But it’s nothing to worry about anymore. I’ll explain when you’re older.”
“I guess it’s over,” Jackie repeated.
“Yeah...guess so,” Jack agreed.
Time went on, as it always does. The group ended their get-together shortly after, parting ways for a short while. After a few more months, the strange disappearances faded into local legend, with people speculating what happened but nobody getting close to the truth that was only known to a small group of six friends. Magic remained, side effects lingered, but they settled back into their place, becoming the new normal.
Still, none of them forgot what happened to them for those three years. It would be hard not to. They had scars to prove it, and some memories would never fade. But the past was the past. And together, they moved on, looking forward to the future.
Pike!JJ and y/n where he forgets an important event between them and instead goes to a frat party/event and when she confronts him about it she breaks down crying and JJ realises what he did and feels really shitty about it
okay i did this for sigma chi jj here if you want a longer, more detailed thing on them being in an actual relationship when it happens. since i wanted to mix things up a bit and not write the same thing twice, we’re going to do pre-relationship pike jj and reader :)
for reference, i did establish in the kegger fic that the two of you are in the same major and take a lot of the same classes
warnings: cursing, not proofread, also sad (if you want a second part, let me know)
you weren’t sure if you were being too sensitive or not. the library was packed because it was midterm season, and you’d been there all day long, for one: to get a table, and two: to get some studying done for your other classes before jj got there to go through finance problems together.
he’d texted you, if you grab our normal table, i’ll bring coffee and snacks. meet at 4?
and, well, you were a sucker for doing what you could to hang out with him, so you agreed. jj and you always made a point to study together during midterms and finals week, the two of you had specific table and specific snacks, and it really got you through those weeks.
this time though, you were worried, it was 4:45 and he hadn’t gotten there yet. you’d been sitting at the table for 6 hours by that point and your stomach was growling and your eyelids were drooping. maybe something had happened and he’d gotten hurt. you kept trying to text him but he wasn’t reading them and he didn’t answer your call either.
pushing aside the other study guides you’d printed, you decided to just go ahead and work through all the finance problems she’d assigned for review. they were due the next day and you’d rather just knock them out while you had a spot in the library than wait till then.
it took you longer than you wanted to get through the finance problems alone. going through your scrambled notes with highlighted formulas and calculator instructions. by the time it hit 6:30 your brain was dead and you were ready to drop with the additional caffeine and snacks that jj promised to bring.
before walking to your car, you decided to grab something from subway. while eating, you tried calling jj again, only to be sent to voicemail. neither you nor jj were from the town your college was in, and you were each other’s emergency contacts, so you figured he probably wasn’t seriously hurt if you hadn’t gotten a call.
already feeling better after eating, you decided to swing by the house to see if anyone knew where jj was, and a really bad feeling started forming in the pit of your stomach when you got close and the street was extra full of cars. parking near the end of the street, you climbed out of your car and head music blasting, seeming to come from the pike house.
“really shouldn’t do this, you don’t want to know,” you mumbled to yourself. unfortunately, you were also really stubborn, so you did it anyway. wearing comfy clothes, definitely not party-appropriate, you walked to the door, fist bumping one of the guys you knew, sprawled out on the steps, clearly gone.
one of the boys who lived in the house was leaning up against the wall and looked shocked to see you, “yo, didn’t know you were coming tonight!”
“how long has this been planned?” you asked, crossing your arms across your chest.
“spur of the moment, just blowing off steam before midterms.”
you nodded, sinking feeling coming back, before hesitantly asking, “where’s jj?”
“last i saw, maybank was playing pong, don’t know if he’s still there or not.”
“right.”
you wandered off to where the pong tables were normally set up and saw him, drunk, laughing loudly as he sank a shot. there was loud cheering from everyone surrounding the table, and against your will, tears rose in your eyes.
normally, you weren’t a huge crier, but from exhaustion and stress over midterms had you feeling more emotional than usual. you didn’t realize the guy you’d been talking to earlier had followed you, and suddenly he was draped on top of you, yelling out, “maybank, look who finally decided to show up!”
he turned and grinned at you, “babe! why are you so late?”
you sighed, not wanting to deal with the fact that he regularly called you babe while drunk without it meaning a single thing, and chose to just answer, “didn’t know there was a party. plus i’ve been at the library all day.”
“oh, explains your outfit,” he joked, laughing a little meanly.
normally it wouldn’t bother you, but these weren’t normal circumstances. closing your eyes to push back the tears again, you felt the guy practically laying on top of you tense at your reaction. he glanced over at jj and warned, “hey, jj, maybe you should lay off.”
jj got a weird look on his face, “it’s just a joke.”
“real funny,” you croaked out, throat tight.
he looked really concerned and started to walk over, pausing only when you started to shrink back. jj looked hurt, shoving his hands in his pocket before asking, “are you upset because i didn’t invite you? it was super last minute, i promise, plus we started pre-gaming pretty early so it must’ve just slipped my mind.”
you laughed bitterly, “sure, we’ll just go with that.”
“hey, let’s get out of here,” the boy behind you suggested, gently pulling you away in attempt to defuse the tension that had risen between jj and you.
jj called after you, “hey, wait!”
you kept walking, not wanting to hear excuses from the drunk boy who clearly didn’t give a shit about your feelings. the other guy walked you back to your car in the dark and gave you a tight hug. the tears you’d been holding back started falling silently as you hugged back.
“i’m not sure what happened, but i’ll read him the riot act if you want.”
“nah, it’s okay, i’m probably just overreacting from stress.”
he nodded uncertainly, “if you’re sure.”
“i’m sure.”
-
you were almost asleep when there was a loud knock on your dorm room door. deciding to ignore it so whoever it was would go away, you rolled over in bed. unfortunately, it didn’t go away, and you didn’t really want your roommate to wake up, so you got up with a huff and went to answer it.
“what?” you asked rudely, swinging the door open.
jj was leaning against the door frame, looking less drunk than earlier but still not sober. he also looked really sad. you crossed your arms while he stared at you morosely, before asking, “did i do something?”
you sighed, “library at 4 with coffee and snacks ring any bells?”
his eyes widened before he cursed, slapping his hand on his forehead, “fuck, i’m so sorry, it totally slipped my mind. but it’s not a big deal, right? we can go tomorrow.”
the sick feeling was back, and you laughed bitterly, “right. always tomorrow. not like you meant to totally blow me off and then ignore all my calls and texts.”
he swayed a few times before shoving his hands in his pockets, “you sound upset.”
and the fucking tears made their third appearance of the night, “yeah, i’m fucking pissed, maybank. when you make plans with someone, stick to them. you blew me off today, it hurt my feelings and the first thing you say to me is a fucking insult. i got all my shit done, so have fun in the library tomorrow, i won’t be there.”
you let the door swing shut and went back to bed, burying your face in the pillow to finally, fully, let the tears fall. fuck him and his ability to mess with your feelings, it wasn’t fucking fair.
Catboy (Reader, catboy! Yuta and Taeyong)
warning : catboy! Taeyong and Yuta , fluff :D
"Hey, want to grab lunch?" Baekhyun's joyful invitation got you tearing away your eyes from the screen. You smile and hit the save button, quickly nodding and picking up your wallet, phone, and ID.
"Slow down, I will wait." Baekhyun leans over the wall. There's no one else in the room, everyone has gone out once the bell rings, but something is wrong with you being the last person sitting down.
"Okay, I am ready where do we go for lunch?" You grab your coat and Baekhyun follows your steps to take the elevator.
"There's a new Subway restaurant by the end of the junction and they serve sandwiches. Quite fast and filling for lunch right?" Baekhyun presses the elevator button down and off you go to the basement.
"What makes you stay back huh, did you not hear the bell?" Baekhyun let out the one question he found really bothering his mind.
You chuckled, "Ah! that, I have to finish my work today. I don't want to take extra hours, because you know," you paused and try to find the right words.
"What? Just tell me, we've been friends since forever. I basically know everything about you." Baekhyun opened the door for you to step in.
You thanked him and both of you queue behind the line.
"You know Taeyong and Yuta are somewhat in a cold war. I don't know what's wrong."
"Oh the boys? Maybe they fight when you're not home. Have you tried talking to them one by one?" Baekhyun suggested a solution.
"Yeah I haven't gotten the chance. It's from this morning. I hope they're okay once I am back. What about Chanyeol? How is he?" You divert the attention elsewhere.
Baekhyun pats your shoulder, telling you to order since the cashier is waiting already.
You quickly made your order and Baekhyun's then with the tray you both take a sit on the corner of the room.
The two of you start eating, while having the light conversation going on.
"Chanyeol? He's a good boy. He even knows how to cook! I come home to a table full of foods." Baekhyun pops up a thumbs up.
Your eyes widen, "Oh yeah? Taeyong is also good in cooking. Not to mention Yuta always help with washing the mess."
Baekhyun rolls his eyes, "That' unfair. Yeol doesn't really like cleaning, so I have to clean up the dishes, but I got a good dinner and he made a nice friend, so yeah no big deal."
"You should get a partner." you teased your friend here. Baekhyun taunted at you, "Said the girl who also lives alone without a partner but two catboys."
"Well you also live with a puppy-hybrid. Chanyeol is a nice breed though, he sounds like he can do anything. I wonder why he was in the shelter."
Yes, you and Baekhyun adopted some hybrid from the shelter. The visit was some kind of joke and you were not even planning to own hybrid.
Not until the two of you walked passed by a shelter and saw how their eyes glimmer with hopes when you peeked from the window. Baekhyun decided to check it out and once you stepped in, your heart ached from seeing two cat-boys curled on the corner, sharing warmth with each other. When you walked closer to the, they squirmed and woke up. Only to shot you a pitiful look, and when the owner explained where he found those two cats, you decided you need to give them new home.
So, Baekhhyun went home with a new tall, sweet smile, energetic puppy hybrid and you brought home two cat-boys. One was a bit tamer than the other one, but both were sweet.
You named them Taeyong and Yuta, the first one was the softie, while the later was the guardian.
Lunch break was over and you walked back to the office to continue your shift. Your salary is enough to have you raise two cat boys, they don't demand much. They can entertain themselves when you're away with the things you have in the house.
Nine to five work was over and you silently bid good bye to the other workers who have to stay behind; Baek is one of them.
You walked calmly home, pondering if you need to buy dinner or not and you believed Taeyong would have prepared something already.
Your beeping alerted the two cats in the house. Yuta's ears twitched when your footstep echoing in the living room.
When Taeyong took a break to shower and pamper himself, you and Yuta are in the kitchen, washing the dishes and storing the left over foods.
"Hey Yuta," you give him your greeting, patting his head and ruffling his hair. He leans into your hand, wanting more. You chuckle and stay for a while, just to move to the other cat boy busy preparing foods.
"Taeyongie," you hug him, and he yelped from the surprise.
"I'm here now. Let's have dinner!" You happily wash your hands and take a seat on the table full of foods. Yuta and Taeyong are already seated on their chair and both of them looked fine. You guessed their fight from the morning was over. Maybe they just accidentally stepped on each other's tail and thus having a small war when you left home earlier.
Other than that, things were fine and you happily dive into dinner with two of your new best friends.
“How’s work?” Yuta asks the regular question he always propose to you.
You nod your head, “It was fine, how are you and Taeyong? I kind of see you two fighting in the morning, mind to share why?”
Yuta smiles when he remembers and realizes how stupid they were.
“I accidentally stepped on Taeyong’s tail and he was a bit cranky this morning. He kind of doesn’t want you to go work. I mean yeah the last week end you’re pampering us with lots of love and attention and when Taeyong remembers today is Monday, he was kind of sad. Then I did not see his tail and I stepped on it. He was mad and he scratched me.” Yuta tuck his shirt up and you can see a sliver of the nice scar on his abdomen.
“Oh no, I will take care of the wound after this.” You look into the red mark with sadness.
“Don’t scold Taeyong, I get it he’s a bit emotional this morning. That’s why I asked sorry, but he did not say a word.”
“It’s so nice of you, but I need to talk and tell Yongie it is not good to ignore an apology.” You bring your hand to touch Yuta’s chin and he purrs when you lightly scratch it.
“Thank you for being understanding Yuta, you really understand Taeyong.” You open your hands and he takes the code to hug you. He is taller than you, but he can always manage to fit into your smaller body whenever you engulf him in a hug.
“Have you resolved it with him?” you whisper
Yuta nods, “Yes, I mean in the afternoon he got bored keeping quiet and playing by himself. So, he slowly approached me and I knew he was not so good in saying his feelings out loud, so I use the chance to say sorry again.”
Your eyes water from the sweet action Yuta made. “He accepted my apology and asked me sorry too for acting that bad.”
The toilet door twisted open and you quickly separate yourself from Yuta. Taeyong is a jealous type of cat, and he smiles when he just finish his good shower.
“Enjoyed your shower Tae?” You walk to him and his fresh soap scent brings a grin to your face.
“Yeah, I need that shower after a long day.” He chuckles and sits on the sofa.
Yuta goes into the shower now, so you have a time alone with him.
“How is your tail?” You open the conversation while looking into his tail. It looks fine and he forces a sad smile.
“I messed up this morning and scratched Yuta.” He admits.
You sigh in relief; he did the confession and this will be easier for you.
“It’s okay, I know you both have talked and solved it. I just want to remind you what you did was not so good. Don’t do that again okay? You are lucky Yuta loves you so much, he did not want me to scold you.”
His soft eyes go teary, you quickly bring Taeyong into a hug and he buries himself into your embrace. “I am sorry too…”
You smile and kiss his forehead, he emits the softest purr and you run your hand lovingly on his back.
“I’ll shower and can you please check Yuta’s scar? Give him the ointment and later we will jump to bed and watch film.”
Taeyong nods like the good boy he always is, “I’ll take care of Yuta, you go shower. Oh and can we cuddle? Please?” his cat eyes show up. “Pretty please with a cherry on top.” He blinks and you lost your control.
“Yes Taeyong! Of course!” You dishevel his hair and go to the shower when Yuta left.
“Yuta, Taeyong will check your scar. I’ll see later if there’s anything else we must do.” You disappear behind the door and Yuta calmly walks to Taeyong.
He opens his shirt and Taeyong sadly looks at the big scar he made this morning.
Taeyong traces his finger over the scar to apply a salph and Yuta winces at the pain.
“Sorry Yuta, I won’t repeat this.” Taeyong rambles as he medicates his brother’s nasty scar.
Yuta only smile and kiss Taeyong’s head, “I get it, it’s okay Taeyong. Stop blaming yourself, this wound is nothing okay. Now stop over thinking and take a good sleep, you need it.”
Taeyong throws Yuta back his tee shirt and the boy quickly wears it back. The two of them are already cuddling under your blanket when you return from the fresh steam.
“What should we watch today?” You jump into the bed and the two cat boys quickly find their way to lean into you.
You giggle and hug the two of them, “Boys, I love you equally okay. Don’t fight over silly things like that again.”
The two cats look into you with adoration and love in their eyes, they’re lucky you decided to bring them home that day, and they’re lucky you still love them with all your heart until today.
END!
Well, this isn’t what I had in mind when I say i want to make a catboy domestic one shot... but here is the result, might make another one someday.
Sleeping on Emotions
A/N: This is something that I’ve been working on as a thread on Twitter and I’m just transferring it here for all of you here to enjoy.
This will be posted in parts. This is part one. Transferring might be a little slow, but I’ll try to get part two up in the next couple of days. The thread itself isn’t complete, yet, so it might be some time before part three is ready.
Summary: After they’ve graduated from UA, Bakugo and Kirishima get an apartment together as roommates. Kirishima sleeps like the rock that he is, but now he’s started to sleepwalk himself into Bakugo’s bed occasionally. Bakugo has been pining since high school and this new development isn’t making things any easier on him, especially not when our favorite redhead starts to talk in his sleep, too.
Warnings: Bakugo swears a lot, no smut, mentions of arousal. More warnings for part two.
Bakugo x Kirishima
Word Count: 1,629
Tumblr media
Crimson eyes slowly blinked open to the rising sun as Bakugo gradually woke up. He was vaguely aware of a heavy weight around his waist, and he let out a resigned sigh. How long had this been going on? It had started at least a month after he’d moved in with Kirishima to their apartment as roommates.
Once they’d graduated from U.A. nearly six months ago, Kirishima had come up with the idea to make things easier on themselves while they were starting out as new pros. Bakugo, of course, had a hard time telling his best friend ‘no’, even though he’d pretended to reject the idea. The transition had been smooth, overall, though.
They had their own rooms, and it wasn’t much different from dorm life. They even had their own bathrooms. Bakugo only occasionally had to snap at Kirishima about doing his chores, but their shared lives had been amiable, otherwise. At some point, however, something changed.
Bakugo wasn’t sure exactly what had triggered it, but the first night he had woken up to Kirishima climbing into his bed with him, he’d nearly blown his face off. That night had ended with a lot of confusion, yelling, and Kirishima crying his numerous apologies. They chalked up the whole event to Kirishima being overly exhausted and confusing Bakugo’s room with his own.
Until it happened, again.
And then again.
By the fourth time, they realized what was happening. The dumbass was sleepwalking. As far as Kirishima was aware, he’d never walked in his sleep before. So, Bakugo made him see a doctor about it. The redhead went without complaint, not wishing to cause any more inconvenience to his best friend.
A common trigger for sleepwalking was apparently stress, so Kirishima began to see a therapist and the episodes lessened. Bakugo wasn’t supposed to wake him up while he was sleepwalking, because that was dangerous, so he tried locking his bedroom door. It would have worked, except the meathead broke the damn doorknob off with his quirk, and came in, anyway.
Resigned and annoyed, Bakugo was forced to allow his best friend to sleep in his bed with him. Could he have slept on the floor, instead? Like fucking hell he was gonna have back problems because his idiot friend couldn’t stay in his own bed. Not to mention, the moment Kirishima was settled, strong arms wrapped around Bakugo’s middle and held him tightly in place.
The damn spiky haired idiot was an octopus. Bakugo had stopped complaining a while ago. Besides being useless, he found that he didn’t exactly hate the forced cuddling. No, it was worse than that. Rather than hate it, he fucking loved it.
During their first year at U.A., it had taken Bakugo some time to adjust to Kirishima touching him constantly. It wasn’t long after that Bakugo actually began to look forward to it. The notion surprised him because he couldn’t stand anyone else. He’d grown to tolerate being touched by others, but that was all he could manage. It had taken through nearly all of their second year to figure out why Kirishima was different.
Bakugo had fallen for the idiot.
He had tried his best to avoid and ignore his feelings, but it was difficult to do when he had a constant, redheaded reminder in his personal space. What a fool he had been to ever agree to be roommates.
A heavy sigh tickled the back of Bakugo’s neck, sending a shiver down his spine and awakening his arousal. If Kirishima didn’t sleep like the fucking rock he was, Bakugo would have punched him awake. How he ever woke up to his alarm, Bakugo would never know.
It was too early in the morning for this shit, and the last thing Bakugo needed was for Kirishima to wake up and figure out that he had an erection. Morning wood was bad enough, let alone getting aroused while sharing a bed with his best friend. Bakugo struggled with the covers, but they were too tangled up between the two of them, and Kirishima’s arm only tightened around him.
As he growled with frustration, he was ready to punch him awake when something new happened. “Baku...go.” Kirishima mumbled in his sleep as he groaned lightly, squeezing Bakugo back against his chest even tighter. Bakugo went still as he sucked in a sharp breath. Then the idiot snorted and laughed. “That’s a walrus, not a cookie. Dummy.”
Bakugo nearly choked. The idiot was talking in his sleep! He covered his mouth as he tried not to laugh out loud, but Kirishima kept talking. Every bit of it was nonsense, and Bakugo soon couldn’t hold his laughter back any longer. He was nearly breathless from how much he was laughing, his body shaking with it.
“Bakugo? What’s so funny?” The laughter died in his throat as Bakugo fought to get it together. Kirishima was waking up, but hadn’t moved, his arm still tight around Bakugo’s waist.
“You were talking in your sleep, dumbass. Now, let go of me. I gotta piss.” It took several seconds before Kirishima’s arm lifted away. The redhead was always especially slow when waking up, so Bakugo tried to be patient. Truthfully, it was their day off and Bakugo would have been content to sink into Kirishima’s warmth for a couple more hours. He could never admit that, though, as he was quite sure his best friend didn’t see him that way.
Once he was free, Bakugo disentangled himself from the blankets and got up. As he stretched, he was vaguely aware of Kirishima sitting up behind him. “Did you say I was talking in my sleep?” Groggy words reached Bakugo’s ears.
“Yeah. You sure were.” Kirishima didn’t respond right away, so Bakugo went ahead and made his way to his personal bathroom to relieve himself and brush his teeth. By the time he came back out, Kirishima had already left and he heard the shower start up from the other bathroom.
Scrubbing a hand through his hair, he headed into the kitchen and began making breakfast, starting with the coffee. By the time he started cooking, Kirishima came out into the kitchen as he rubbed his hair dry with a towel and wearing only a pair of running shorts that were slung low on his hips. Bakugo couldn’t stop himself from following the neat, black happy trail that disappeared under the waistband with his gaze.
He quickly refocused himself on the pan when Kirishima dropped the towel around his broad shoulders. “Smells good, man. You making some for me, too? Or should I make my own?” Kirishima grinned that easygoing smile of his and Bakugo felt something flutter in his chest.
He grumbled as he pointed to the kitchen table, trying to smother his own feelings. “Sit down. It’s almost done.” Kirishima’s grin got even bigger with his excitement.
“Awe, thanks, man! You seriously are the best.” The redhead sat down and leaned his chin in his hand as his expression faltered. “Sorry for sleepwalking into your bed, again. I know how much you hate it.” Bakugo let out a soft grunt in reply as he plated their food and came over to the table.
After handing Kirishima his plate, Bakugo sat across from him with his own, digging in with his chopsticks. “Stop beating yourself up over it. You can’t help it. Fucking punch me in your sleep, though, and then we’ll have a problem. Got it?” Bakugo growled over his rice omelet. They were Kirishima’s favorite, and Bakugo couldn’t help himself.
Kirishima gave him a wobbly smile that Bakugo was sure would turn into tears at any second. “Thanks, man. You really are the best. I mean it.” He looked down at the food and sniffled a little. “You even made my favorite, again.” So, the idiot had noticed.
Bakugo feigned an annoyed ‘tch’ and rolled his eyes even as his face warmed. “Whatever, just eat.” He watched the redhead a moment as Kirishima dug in happily, thanking Bakugo again for the food. “So, what the fuck were you even dreaming about this morning? You should have heard the shit coming from your mouth.”
With his mouth stuffed with food, Kirishima looked up from his plate with wide eyes, chewing thoughtfully before swallowing it down. “I dunno. Don’t really remember that much. Why, what was I saying?” He gave Bakugo that shark-toothed grin of his that always made Bakugo wonder what it would be like to be bitten, making a shiver run imperceptibly down his spine.
“You laughed and said a walrus wasn’t a cookie, then something about some damn kittens and losing their mittens, or some shit.” Kirishima scrunched up his nose in concentration as he listened, then shook his head with a laugh.
“Nah, doesn’t ring a bell. Sounds like one crazy dream, though!” Kirishima laughed some more then went back to eating. Bakugo watched him for a moment, contemplative as he wondered what else he might get to hear Kirishima say in his sleep. He actually found himself somewhat excited for it.
It was a long moment before he snapped himself out of his staring spell, his thoughts wandering to things much less appropriate while eating breakfast. “When we’re done eating, we’re going to the store. The fridge is looking bare, so it needs to be restocked.” Bakugo informed him before starting to eat, again. Kirishima only smiled and nodded, mouth too full to respond verbally.
As Bakugo chewed, the thought that his best friend might one day stop sleepwalking occurred to him, making him frown. He really hoped that would never happen, knowing that he could never bring himself to ask his best friend to cuddle him if it ever did.
