Guardians of Childhood - The Great Time Travel Adventure (A GoC fanfic)
(Spoilers from previous books ahead!)
Summary:
A new Golden Age had arrived. Pitch was gone for good and Kozmotis had returned. The Guardians could finally live in peace now. Jack had returned to the little hut in the middle of nowhere that belonged to his adoptive brother together with Katherine, his girlfriend, and Jacklovichs children; only leaving when duty was due. North, Bunnymund, Toothiana, and Sandy had returned to their domains. But the peace finds an end when all of sudden events from the past seemed to change. Where is Father Time? Why wasn't he preventing events from being changed? The Guardians once again stand in front of a mystery that needed to be solved. A most uncommon adventure through time itself begins to find and save Father Time from the Dark Forces that try to keep him from doing his duties...

Chapter 2: Between laughter and regret
Emily Jane helped her father get up on his still wonky feet again, and not much sooner the Guardians could face the former Lord High General Kozmotis Pitchiner in all his glory once again. Kozmotis, seemingly in awe, began to stare at his cloak… robe… dress… whatever it was called over time and raised an eyebrow. Then all of sudden he started laughing in a most blissful manner. The Guardians stared at him in obvious confusion and broke out in quiet mutter.
Kozmotis then stopped laughing and pursed his lips to not release another snicker. "What in the name of the moon am I wearing?!" thought the former Nightmare King out loud and tugged on his entirely black coloured cloak that was so long that it was almost dragged across the ground like a dress. The muddled mutters around him suddenly stopped. Each Guardian began to look at each other. Katherine at Jack, Jack at Sandy, Sandy at Bunnymund, Bunnymund at Toothiana, and Toothiana at North. Then every single one of them started to laugh in great unison as well.
Now it was the General who appeared rather perplexed. Even his daughter began joining the cluster of amused laughter all around him. Kozmotis scratched his head, struggling as to what he'd do wrong that made everybody burst out in laughter like that. "What?" was the only word the man managed to get out of his mouth. "Nothing" replied Emily Jane as she released one last giggle.
"Apparently this is what Pitch Black liked. Because it is... well... Pitch Black!" stated Jack, chuckling, while leaning with his legs crossed against Twiner who had transformed back into a staff earlier. Kozmotis frowned at the mention of 'Pitch Black'. He had to admit that his alter ego caused too much trouble over the past centuries. "Please,” the former General insisted, "Refrain from mentioning that horrible name ever again. Pitch is history. He was a horrible being and caused way too much pain during his reign. Now Kozmotis has returned. And I want to apologize for all this has happened in the first place".
Bunnymund's nose began twitching again. Then he headed a step forward, facing Kozmotis face to face, frowning.
"Then why didn't you stop it from happening in the first place?" snorted the Pooka, his twiching nose just a few small inches away from General Kozmotis' nose.

"I had no choice!" answered Kozmotis filled with sorrow in his voice, then backed off as he turned to his daughter who'd been floating on a small with fog surrounded cloud next to Sandman. The little golden-yellow man was so quiet the whole time. In fact, Sandy never spoke anyway. "You better be serious. After all, it is your fault that I am the last remaining Pooka of the Pookan Brotherhood!".
That statement made the tall man startle and go quiet real quick because he knew the Pooka wasn't wrong. North sighed, Toothiana gapsed, and Katherine hid behind Mr. Querty's pages. No laughter could be heard anymore, the atmosphere around the environment went silent and it almost was like time stood still. For a moment, none of the Guardians dared saying a word.

“Did you sleep with him?!”
pairing: Steve Rogers x reader
warnings: CRACK, Sharon bashing, curse words (the word fuck and bitch), mentioned seggs
genre: comedy/crack
word count: 555 Words
Based off a TikTok..
(the gif doesn’t correspond with the story at all)
Tumblr media
The Avengers were all chilling in the living room, trading jokes and laughing. Y/n and Steve were on one of the couches sitting, Y/n basically on Steve's lap. It's not uncommon for them to do since they're super close best friends, it sometimes slips their mind that Steve is in a relationship with Sharon Carter.
Did they really forget? Or did they just not give a fuck anymore. To be honest probably the latter. Anyway back to the story.
Suddenly and angry blond storms into the room, all the conversation stops immediately and everyone looks on waiting for a daily Y/n and Sharon arguement. Did I forget to mention that they hate each other? Sharon is just jealous because of how close Steve is to Y/n. And Y/n just doesn't give a fuck and won't take anymore of Sharon's crap, because of her jealous ass.
"What the fuck are you doing?!" She yells out, glaring at Y/n on Steve's lap. Steve tries to calm her down before something happens,
"Shar—" he gets cut off,
"Why are you always trying to sleep with my boyfriend? Do you want to? Did you?" Sharon walks up to the seated friends.
All the Avengers look around sipping on their iced tea from their Avengers straw collection, with everyone's logo on it.
Y/n gets up abruptly. She takes a step toward so Sharon takes on step back,
"You keep asking me did I sleep with this man?! I never fucked him! NEVER!" Y/n yells out, outraged of all the accusations, her face goes emotionless after,
"But you know what? Now I am gonna fuck him..... What you gonna do about it bitch? Fuck off my line." The sticks her middle finger up at Sharon, who's mouth is wide open, jaw on the floor. And grabs Steve's hand and drags him out the room, towards the bedrooms.
It's silent for a moment before all the Avengers bust out laughing and childishly pointing at Sharon, who runs out in tears.
20 minutes later
The team went back to talking after the funny events occurred. They go silent as they hear strange sounds, Natasha gets up to check the mysterious sound out. She walks down the corridor towards the bedroom where it's coming from, she gets closer and hears....
"Y/N'S GETTING HER SHIT POUNDED BY STEVE!" Natasha runs back down to the living room to tell the others what she heard.
She stops at the door frame where she sees everyone looking at her eyes wide and in disbelief,
"What?" She looks and sees Sharon standing at the other entrance of the living room with tears streaming down her face, having heard what Natasha said.
It's so quiet you could hear a pin drop. But then....
Everybody starts laughing excluding Sharon who's sobs get even louder. Again they all childishly point at her and bust out laughing again.
Peter, Bucky, and Sam all literally on the floor laughing. Tony calls out to F.R.I.D.A.Y,
"Get that bitch off the monitor." He waves a dismissive hand towards Sharon as F.R.I.D.A.Y guides the heartbroken woman out. Everyone starts laughing again.

The OM! Boys + first kisses (which you initiate!)
Tumblr media
Masterlist
I didn’t explicitly mention it being the first kiss in each scenario, but please assume that it is! 🥰
Tumblr media
Lucifer:
Your feelings for the Avatar of Pride are undeniable. In fact, recently, they’ve become very hard to keep in check.
He’s already on your mind when you walk past his study, and see him hunched over his desk--working hard, like always (and that worries you a bit). Your heart is so full of love for him, and it aches whenever you think of his long, exhausting days.
Even if it’s cheesy, you want to be a pick-me-up to him during those busy times.
“Shouldn’t you take a break?” you quip, silently making your way inside. Lucifer blinks, and his gaze softens when it falls on you.
“Perhaps you’re right,” he sighs, but doesn’t set his pen down. He frowns at the stack of papers in front of him, not paying you any mind as you slowly scoot your way around the side of the desk--stepping up behind him.
You watch him as he works, eyes trailing from his gloved hands, up his arms, and across his strong jaw line.
Lucifer never fails to enchant you. Even just being here, so close to him, has your heart racing.
...you want to kiss him.
“Y/N--”
And the minute Lucifer turns his head ever so slightly, moving to look at you, you do just that.
Without giving yourself much time to think on it, you reach your hands forward and cradle his face--closing your eyes as you press your lips against his own.
You feel Lucifer still in surprise, and you’re quick to try and pull back--but then a grin is spreading on his lips, and his gloved hand is curling against the back of your neck.
He kisses you for a few more moments, goosebumps rising on your skin. Then, he finally releases you--only allowing you a few inches to breathe as his thumb soothes through your hair.
“I’m a bit upset you didn’t allow me the chance to kiss you first,” he says with a bit of a frown, but soon laughs. “However, as long as I get to keep kissing you, I certainly won’t complain.”
Mammon:
Despite your affections for the Avatar of Greed, they never seem to be enough.
Tonight, he’s pouting because you’d spent your afternoon with Asmo--having a shopping day together--and not him.
“I mean, ya could’ve invited me,” he says, pointedly ignoring you as he rolls onto his side and occupies himself on his DDD. You sigh.
“Mammon, Asmo wanted it to be just the two of us. I assumed you would be okay for just a few hours without me at your side.”
Somehow, he manages to pout even harder.
“I’m supposed’ta be your first...why are ya spending so much time with those guys?”
Your gaze softens as you regard him. He should know by now that he’s got a special place in your heart, and yet, that’s still not enough for him.
No, he’s the Avatar of Greed. He’ll only continue to crave more, right?
“Mammon.”
He grunts, not turning to face you. “What?”
“Mammon, look at me, please.”
You speak quietly, tenderly--letting any annoyance disappear from your tone. Then, finally, Mammon gives in, and rolls onto his back.
“What? Are you ready to apolo--mmph!”
He literally goes stiff as a board when you lean in and capture his lips. Your cheeks are hot--you’re embarrassed despite your sudden burst of confidence.
“There--,” you say, sitting back after a few seconds. “Is that enough to make it up to you?”
Mammon blinks at you, face getting redder by the second. Then, his gaze is darting away, brain catching up to what has just occurred. However, it’s clear that he’s far from unhappy.
“Uhhh...well, maybe if you give me a few more, I’ll think about forgiving you.”
 Levi:
It’s a spur of the moment type thing.
You’re hanging out with Levi, watching him play a video game, when things start to go wrong. He hops to his feet, cursing up a storm as he attempts to regain his footing in the match he’s suddenly now losing.
You decide to stay calm, to not worry, because surely Levi will calm down in a moment--but when his power starts to seep, an aura growing around him--you know you have to do something.
After all, he can’t summon Lotan again.
“Levi, hey! Why don’t we calm down!” you try, smiling at him. You shift yourself into his field of vision, hoping to distract him from the game that’s only continuing to go south.
“There’s a special reward for beating this level!” he hisses, his amber eyes ghosting right over you. “I have to win!”
“You can try again once you’ve calmed down!” you argue, taking a step forward, with your hands held in front of you. Your fingers skim the fabric of his jacket, and you look up at him, but he’s too immersed to realize exactly how close you are. (After all, if he did, he would definitely be scrambling backwards right now).
“No, I--”
You sigh at his adamance, fingers curling into his shirt. You had been hoping your first kiss with him would at least be a little more romantic, but here goes nothing!
Gathering all of your courage, you press up and connect your lips with his. It takes him a few seconds to register what’s going on, but you feel the controller in his hands slowly drop. And then, he’s jolting back--arm raising to cover his tomato colored face.
“Y-Y-You!! You kissed me!”
“I’m sorry!” you immediately say, feeling hot as well. “You wouldn’t listen to what I was saying, and I didn’t want you to accidentally hurt yourself, or your games, or your brothers, so!” You take a deep breath, trying to calm yourself, but it doesn’t work well.
“Listen...I’m sorry if you didn’t like it, I just--”
“W-Well...I never said that...,” he mumbles, interrupting you. His gaze darts between your face, and the wall nearby. “But I didn’t really...feel...it the first time, so...m-maybe we should do it again…”
Satan:
Satan is a pretty good cook, so you tend to hang around him when it’s his night to make dinner.
It's not uncommon that you try to steal bites whenever he’s not looking.
Today, however, he warns you just a second too late that he’s making spicy curry (like, really spicy curry), so you should steer clear of any taste-testing.
Of course, a beat later he turns and sees you over the stove with the wooden spoon shoved into your mouth.
Even before you start to sweat, and tears form in your eyes, Satan is at fridge--pulling out the carton of milk and pouring you a big glass.
As you down the soothing liquid, Satan stays by your side--unable to help it when he chuckles. You send him a glare, letting him know you don’t appreciate him laughing at your pain, and he lifts a hand to pat your hair.
“Oi, Oi~ It’s your fault for not listening to me.”
He breaks into another fit of giggles, moving past you to return to the stove. Your eyes follow after him, heart beating surprisingly fast at the sound of his laughter, and the slightest bit of physical contact with him.
Setting the glass on the counter--your mouth now successfully not about to burst into flames--you steel yourself and make your way towards him.
Without warning, once at his side, you reach forward and grab two handfuls of his sweater vest. Satan’s eyes widen in surprise as you drag him into the impromptu kiss, but it doesn’t take him long to reciprocate.
With little thought, he matches the firmness of your lips--his cheeks dusted pink when he pulls back to smile at you.
“What was that for?”
“Just felt like it,” you mumble, glancing away. Your eyes fall to the bubbling pot of curry. “...will you make a separate batch that won’t kill me?”
He hums. “Maybe for the price of another kiss.”
Asmo:
Although Asmodeus teases you all the time about how much he wants to kiss you, and to shower you in even more intimate forms of affection--he never acts on them.
Sure, he’s  the Avatar of Lust, but that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t understand boundaries.
He loves you a lot, and doesn’t want to mess your relationship up by moving too quickly, and for that, you really appreciate him.
However...while his consideration is appreciated, you’re starting to go stir crazy at the fact that he won’t make the first move.
So, you decide to take it upon yourself.
You spend hours--days, even--building up your courage. And today, your courage meter is finally full.
Asmo and you already have plans to hang out, so it’s not strange when you knock at his door. It is out of character, however, when he pulls the door open to greet you, and you immediately lurch forward--wrapping your arms around him as your lips connect.
Even if it’s unexpected, Asmo is reciprocating without missing a beat. He hugs you tightly, kissing you back until you’re gently pushing him away--in need of some air.
“Oh, I loved that,” he says dreamily, taking a step back into his room. “You should do that more often!! I love seeing this confident side of you! It’s such a turn on!”
You cup your hot cheeks, stepping inside after him--still in shock that you’d actually kissed him.
“I don’t know, Asmo, it took me a while to work up to that.”
He giggles a little at your statement, and you blink when he reaches forward and grabs a strand of your hair--tugging you forward. His eyes sparkle.
“Well...even if you don’t have the courage to initiate right now, since the ice is broken…,” he gaze falls to your lips. “Is it okay if I kiss you instead? I promise it’ll be enjoyable~ After all, I’m good at this stuff.”
Beel:
Most of the time, you’re alright with giving Beel your food. You love him to the moon and back, and seeing him eating his favorite dishes with that happy look on his face makes your heart soar.
Today, however, you’d purposely stashed your desert to the side--intent on eating it yourself, for once, considering it was a limited time flavor from Madam Screams.
You’d hoped that putting it out of sight, and quite literally stashing in behind all the food in the fridge, would help keep it from the Avatar of Gluttony--but food never gets past him.
You’re in the middle of finishing up your turn on dish duty when you hear the fridge pop open. Immediately you’re whipping your head around--gasping in shock when you see Beel sticking his head into the appliance, sniffing around with a hungry look on his face.
“Beel no!” you abandon the dishes and rush over to him, trying to stop him from devouring your dessert in one bite. However, your efforts are futile, and soon your precious sweets are gone. The only remaining hint of them is the dusting of sugar on Beelzebub’s lips, and in a moment of foolish bravery, you grab him by the collar of his jacket and tug him down.
Your lips connect, and you can taste the dessert on him--sweet, and rich--everything you’d been hoping for.
After a few seconds, you pull back for air, and find Beel staring at you with surprise written all over him. You feel your face begin to heat up--realization at what you’d just done hitting you--but before you can think to apologize, or run, Beel is dragging you back in.
His palms cup your cheeks--his lips meeting yours once more.
“I’m sorry for eating your dessert,” he mumbles, regret in his tone. “I’ll buy you another one. But.. until then, I want to keep tasting you.”
Belphie:
You’re struggling to fall asleep when Belphie stops by your room, and asks if you want to go for a walk with him. The offer sounds heavenly, so you say yes.
It’s a simple thing--walking side by side with the Avatar of Sloth, through the uncrowded streets of the Devildom--but it still makes you feel...smitten.
Over the last few weeks, your feelings for Belphie have only grown larger, and larger. And now, even simple gestures like this--that don’t have any special meaning--cause your mind to wander.
Seriously, he’s not even talking, but your gaze is zeroed in on his mouth. On his soft lips, which are parted ever so slightly as he sighs--his eyes trailing around the familiar scenery.
“Hey,” he speaks, turning to face you. He smiles, and the expression has your heart jumping into your throat.
Without thinking--acting solely on a split second of courage--you step towards him.
“Do you wanna get some--,” his voice cuts off abruptly as you press your lips to his. He makes a quiet sound of shock, and you can only imagine that he’s staring at you like you’re crazy. (Luckily, you can’t confirm if he is since your eyes are squeezed shut).
After a few seconds, you decide to pull back--feeling a little dejected since Belphie hasn’t made a move of his own. Then, just as you peel your eyelashes back open, Belphegor is grabbing you by your waist--dragging you against him as he captures your lips.
His kisses are much hotter than yours, and you whine at him, gently knocking your fist against his chest when you notice that the two of you are starting to draw looks from some nearby demons.
“What?” he asks cheekily, his grip loosening enough to allow you some room for air. “You’re the one that suddenly kissed me in the middle of the street. First kiss, too. How daring.”
Your face flushes, eyes darting away. “Y-Yeah, well…”
“Well,” he continues, reaching down to grab your hand. He intertwined his fingers with yours, tugging you farther down the street. “I say we get somewhere more private, and then continue.”
Diavolo:
It just...sort of...happens.
Diavolo invites you to have tea in his office during your free period, and things go so well, that for a moment, you have a lapse in sanity and actually forget that the goddamn Prince of Hell isn’t your boyfriend.
You’ve had feelings for him for a while, and sometimes--when he’s in front of you, looking so handsome, and being so charming--it’s easy to lose yourself in those feelings.
So when your tea time wraps up, and Diavolo escorts you to the door of his office, maybe you--without thinking--press to your tiptoes and plant a kiss right against his lips.
“Thank you for tea, I--,” your words die off as a sense of dread washes over you. You raise a hand to your lips, realizing what you’ve done. “Oh my god--”
Your eyes flit to Diavolo’s face, and you can tell that he’s at a loss for word--his golden eyes wide with surprise.
Oh god, why are you like this??
Freaking out, you hurriedly reach for the door handle. “Lord Diavolo, I am so sorry. I wasn’t thinking, I--”
But before you can run into the hall and away from your current nightmare, Diavolo is grabbing your wrist and tugging you back into the room.
“No, no! No need to be sorry,” he beams, his free hand lifting to brush a few stray hairs from your face. “I was just caught off guard, that’s all.”
You flush, looking away and mumbling. “But I kissed you out of the blue like that…”
“True,” he chuckles, gaze tender as he regards you. “I was surprised, that’s for sure.” He leans down and looks you in the eyes--your faces just inches apart.
“So, next time, maybe don’t jump at me. Simply asking me for a kiss will work just fine.”
Barbatos:
You’re helping Barbatos out in the kitchen of the Demon Lord’s Castle when the urge to kiss him suddenly overwhelms you.
Because honestly--how dare he look so kind, and handsome all the damn time. In everything that he does, he always manages to hold the same poise, and grace, and it drives you mad.
Even now, as he stands over the stove--watching dinner cook, with an apron tied around his waist--the energy he exudes draws you in, and makes you fall all over again.
Swallowing the lump in your throat, you slowly make your way around the kitchen island, and step up to his side.
Sensing your presence, he turns to face you with a gentle smile.
“Dinner is almost finished,” he says. “Thank you for your help. If you want, you can head to the dining room where the others are.”
You nod, but your feet don’t move. Barbatos blinks, tilting his head to the side ever so slightly.
“Are you alright, Y/N?”
Taking a deep breath, you gather all of your courage, and then reach forward. Barbatos pauses as your fingers brush against his cheeks--his eyes going wide when he feels your lips press against his--warm, and soft.
“I…,” you stutter when you finally pull back. “I just...I want to do that, so…”
Barbatos chuckles at your darkening face, his gloved hand moving to cup your cheek.
“It’s quite alright. I’m flattered to know that you wanted to kiss me.”
His thumb soothes over your hot skin, and he smiles a bit wider.
“If you ever feel like doing it again, then please, by all means, you have my permission.”
“Same to you,” you mumble, causing him to laugh a little more. Leaning in, he presses a kiss to your forehead.
“Duly noted.”
Solomon:
You choose to blame your actions on the atmosphere of the party, and the fact that the sorcerer is looking fine as ever--dressed in a dark button down shirt, with the first few buttons undone.
He’d dragged you to The Fall with him, wanting a companion for the night, and you’d agreed.
Now, it’s been hours since your arrival, and the entire time, Solomon has kept you close to his side--fingers curling around your waist when you accidentally begin to stray too far.
The contact has butterflies fluttering around inside your tummy, but you try your best to ignore the sensation--the way being so close to Solomon is making you feel.
Your feelings boil over, however, when Solomon makes a point of defending you from a pushy demon.
Following the encounter, he drags you to a more private area of the club to create some much needed space.
“Jeez, I know you’re a human, but that was pretty rude,” he mumbles, eyes straying to the dance floor as he adjusts his shirt cuffs. But your gaze is solely locked on him, a frenzy of different emotions running through you in response to him, and his actions.
In the end, though, you can only think of one thing to do. One thing you really want to do.
Solomon makes a quiet sound of shock when you suddenly press up--pushing your lips against his for a few long beats. And when you inch back for air, you find Solomon grinning at you, looking quite satisfied.
“Oh? Giving a kiss to your prince charming? I like this type of payment.”
You scoff and push against his chest, but he’s already grasping your waist--keeping you near.
“I want that kiss back.”
“No refunds,” he laughs, his forehead knocking against yours, and the look in his eyes makes your melt a little. Then, he’s the one initiating kisses, and you swear your heart is beating in time with the bass of the club music.
Simeon:
With a school dance right around the corner, the angel had kindly offered to help you learn how to...well...dance. Properly dance. Not club dancing, or anything of the like.
No, from what you had heard, the RAD school dances were much more formal than the dances you had experienced in school back in the human world, so you’d been searching for a dance teacher.
Simeon had been more than happy to offer his services.
“Look at you!” he says with a gentle laugh--your hand on his shoulder, and his fingers curled around your waist. There’s music playing from your DDD, abandoned on his dresser as the two of you waltz around his room.
“You’re really getting the hang of it!”
You smile as you glance at his bright face, heart fluttering against your ribs as you’re once again reminded of how pretty he is, and how close the two of you are at the moment.
Seriously, as much as you appreciate him for offering to teach you, you’re pretty sure you’ve already staved off half a dozen heart attacks during your lessons.
And today, as heart attack number seven looms, you reach your breaking point.
As the song comes to a close, you step forward--breaking your rhythm--and kiss him. You can feel his body still--his brain catching up with reality.
Just as you begin to pull away, Simeon is closing the gap--hugging you tightly as he reciprocates your affections.
“You won’t kiss the others like this when you’re dancing with them, will you?” he whispers with a smile, making you laugh. “Our first kiss should be special, I think.”
“Kisses while dancing will be reserved for you,” you reassure him, giggling more when he pulls back and pouts at you.
“All kisses should be reserved for me.”

let you down. (sebastian stan x reader)
summary: it's a universal truth but it's worth repeating; feelings eat us raw. or just an actor and a girl falling in and out of love over the course of three months.
(this was inspired by sebastian's visit to greece for his movie, monday, and is based on that, so that means in the story we’re in 2018. also i have this posted on ao3 too but while i’m writing the last parts i thought of posting it here too)
pairing: sebastian stan x reader
warnings: alcohol, sexual references, implied depression, sebastian desperately needs to hug the reader, infidelity, it's kinda slowburn because i love the yearning, this part is full of angst and built up tension,
part: 3/6
(other parts)   (masterlist)
Tumblr media
Being Sebastian Stan is not a simple thing. Some days it makes him feel like he is only a porcelain face on screen. Nothing more than photographs and rumors. He had once told an interviewer he was scared people would never know the real Sebastian. What he meant was that he was worried he’d wake up one day and the real him would be vanished.
The world would have eaten him alive.
Walking you home, in empty streets in a small country makes it all easier. His mind is clear of dazzling thoughts and his heart is not racing up. He can smile and no one will be there to take a picture of him.
Somehow that makes him smile more.
And when he does, it feels like Christmas. And you are certain there will come a day where you’ll be so close to oblivion and unable to remember what mint tastes like or what your favorite color is, but you’ll still have the turned up corners of his mouth painted in your head.
He stops walking. You look at him confused. He’s fidgeting with his fingers.
“Back at the party,” he takes a long breath as if trying to slow down his heartbeat, “You were talking with that tall guy.”
He sounds terrified. You don’t understand why. He thinks it’s better that way.
“Yeah I was.” There’s a flicker of surprise in your voice.
“Do you know him well?” You realize you have stopped in front of a pharmacy, the halogen light above you, turning your skin a sick green color.
“I know he’s an actor.” You take a step, finding the courage to walk away from him. “He’s kinda famous here.”
You can hear him move close behind you.
“Do you want me to ask Argyris if he’s single?”
There’s mockery in his voice. It makes you feel intoxicated. It’s your turn to stop walking. Your gaze falls on his face and Sebastian can feel his eyes sting but he keeps them open; wide and pale blue.
Almost green, under this light.
“No.”
“Oh don’t be sh-“
“No, I mean it. I would never date a famous guy.”
“Why?” A hasted breath escapes his trembling lips. And for a moment you think of kissing him right there; in the middle of the street, but you never do.
His world moves too fast for people like us.
That’s what you want to yell back at him, but then you remember;
The evening Sebastian fell asleep in your couch, he was more than a famous guy. He was clutching on your pillow like a kid and he was humming to himself like your father used to.
And he smiled as he fell asleep.
There is no argument left in you. He’s just a boy.
“I’m scared.” Your words slowly suffocate him. He feels the weight of your heart pulling him down.
He nods.
/
The next two days pass in a blur. You can hear him laugh with people as they walk up the stairs to Argyris’ flat. You’re not used to him not stopping at your door. It makes your cheeks red and your eyes filled with salty tears.
You haven’t realized until now, but you’ve become dependent on his presence.
So when you open your eyes at 4am with your phone buzzing with an Instagram message, you bite your cheeks.
Are you awake?
You stare at the screen to make sure you read it all correct, until it turns black and then lights up once again.
Why are you scared?
You don’t have to be scared with me.
I’m trying. You want to answer. Help me. You want to answer. Please.
You put your phone away until the words turn blurry.
/
He’s back at your door the following night. He’s wearing a white tank top and his rings. He must have just finished shooting.
You keep staring at each other, both tongue-tied with the words you’ll never say. He looks worried and desperate. You look tired and desperate. Taylor Swift is playing in the background.
“No more AC/DC?” He laughs and your eyes smile.
“Do you want to talk?” He asks.
You shake your head like you’re at war with yourself.
“Do you want to just stay here?” Your voice is too silent but it’s almost deafening him.
Sebastian thinks that he wants tons of things. He wants to hold you. And he wants to touch you. Everywhere. And he wants to know why there’s sorrow surrounding you. And he wants to take it all away.
And he wants you.
But he knows that he can’t tell you that. These words are too heavy for you to carry on your shoulders. At least for now.
“I’ll stay.” He says with a breath.
You give him an almost smile and all you can feel is gratitude.
/
You lay in your bed together. You’ve slept with other guys in that bed before. And it’s been nude and sloppy and brutal. But this is different. This is intimacy in its purest form. You’re both fully clothed but you both feel naked. And so close. So close.
All Sebastian can hear is the sound of your breathing and every bone inside him is breaking. He is afraid he’s turning paralyzed.
And then you move your body and bring your forehead next to his. Sebastian inhales deeply. You smell of faded vanilla body cream.
You look at him and you know then you can get used to that. You bury your fingers in the hem of his shirt. You want him to come closer. He knows.
“I’ll stay love,” his voice is steady and sincere “Anytime.”
He calls you love because there’s nothing else to call you. He calls you love because you both need him too.
“I don’t think that’s possible.” Sebastian thinks you’re always too sensible. It’s something you keep between the hollows of your body. “But it’s okay.”
His hand is in your hair. It soothes you.
“What happened? What broke you?” he whispers.
You don’t know what to say. You don’t know how everything started. It's hard to remember but there is one image in the back of your eyes that crawls through your skin and makes you shiver. You try to ignore it.
“I don’t know.” He turns his gaze at you but you look at the cold ceiling. It’s so much easier this way.
He doesn’t answer. He just draws circles in the back of your palm and places his lips against the scalp of your head. And while you’ve never been much of a science person, you’re certain this is how a nuclear attack emerges.
/
When the sun rises and you wake up, he’s not there. Earth moves slowly as the cold sheets press against your skin.
It’s early, there is a soft breeze coming in from your open window. A man is bickering with this wife across the street.
You can hear her call him a liar.
I’ll stay love.
You can hear him yell his apologies.
Anytime.
Why do people lie? Why do we lie?
You don’t try to search for him. You take a shower and drink some chocolate milk. You pay attention to the silence in the room. You almost forget your heart is still beating.
/
You bump into Argyris’ girlfriend while taking out the garbage. You like her a lot. She’s strong and pretty and smart. You wonder sometimes, how exactly that feels.
You pray she doesn’t mention him. It doesn’t work.
“He must be flying right now.” Suddenly you feel as if there is something rotten inside your chest. It makes you want to graze your skin and throw away everything that's inside.
You look at her slightly confused.
“He’s flying to Toronto; he has to attend a festival there.” She smiles. You’ve noticed she always smiles.
You just nod and step out of the building. Her voice stops you.
“He’s coming back in some days.”
“I don’t care.” Now she laughs.
“There’s no need to lie.” You take a sharp breath. “He cares too.”
You want to believe her words but they seem like choke chains.
You throw your garbage away.
You keep your rotten chest.
/
Sebastian sits back at his seat and orders a hundred and one drinks. The airplane is chasing the sun. He’s chasing his thoughts. Neither will ever catch up.
He used to like travelling. Airports, suitcases and foreign hotel rooms made him feel free. Now they make him feel the opposite.
The material on his seat is rugged. He wants to go back to your soft sheets. He can’t.
And then he imagines a place and a time where he could just kiss you without any possible consequences. He imagines a place where you could rest your bodies together for a long time without worries weighing you down. He imagines a place where he gets what he wants. A place where that thing between you two is more than enough.
The sun blinds him. He closes the small window and then his eyes.
Being Sebastian Stan is not a simple thing.
Some days he can’t take it.
/
You’re sitting on the floor and it’s almost 9 in the morning. You’ve calculated the time difference and it’s 2 in the morning where he is. That sounds wrong. Almost scary.
He left three days ago but he’s everywhere. There are photos of him wearing stupid floral shirts and posing in a sophisticated way. And there’s Nicole Kidman next to him.
God. I’ve become infatuated with a man who plays in movies with Nicole Kidman and Robert Downey Jr.
That’s what you think and you know you’re doomed.
You expect him to send you a message or a picture at first, but he doesn’t. You wonder if your time together was only a blurry puzzle of disconnected memories that somehow fits in his past.
He’ll simply forget all of it.
You try not to think about him but then you meet Argyris in the lobby and you have to bite the inside of your mouth so his name doesn’t jump out from your lips.
You go to bed early that day. You hold onto your pillow and you count the hours that separate you.
(13 hours with a plane)
(25 days with a boat)
You count and you fall asleep.
And you fall in love.
/
It’s not uncommon to rain in Toronto. But today rain feels heavier on Sebastian’s skin. He remembers the day he met you; it was hot and the sun made the window glass look like it was about to melt. That memory is the cause of his shivering.
Once upon a time he was in love. He was in love with a girl who had ethereal written all over her body. He was in love with a girl who was destined for divinity.
But those were the old days; they are dead and gone now. Your skin glistening under the Athenian sun changed it all.
It’s not easy to feel this way. The sky understands so it opens up and pours down on his dark hair. He presses his eyes closed with his fingers. And he tries to imagine a version of himself that doesn’t think about you that often.
He can’t.
Not even when he has a deity as his girlfriend.
/
The next time you see him, his hair is a little longer and much messier than you remember. And you have to devour all the sense that’s left inside you as not to touch it with your bare hand.
He has a cigarette in his fingers and a dark jacket thrown around his shoulders and everyone’s asking him about the festival. You just sit on the corner of your neighbor’s flat and listen to laughter and glasses clicking against each other. And you smile.
Smile; because he’s here.
And then he notices you and you’re pretty sure his eyes linger on your face a little longer than it's normal for humans. And his gaze is so brilliantly blank and loony that you don’t know how to respond. And then he starts to cough. And he never looks at you for the rest of the night.
You want to believe it’s better this way.
But it makes you so angry; you want to clench your teeth hard.
/
It goes like this; you don’t exchange any words for the next two days and it feels like your lips will start to bleed.
And you don’t know but his head feels like battlefield.
“When do you know you can’t stop it?” He asks Argyris. He feels ashamed.
“When you don’t want to stop it.”
He grabs the beer can and drinks his confusion away. He hopes alcohol will send his thoughts to sleep but instead it sends him to your door.
He rests his head against the wooden material. He can hear water running down and he can hear you humming a song.
And the foreign words make no sense to him but somehow they sound like lyrical poetry.
He waits for the water to stop and then he knocks.
/
Your hair is wet and sticks to your blue shirt. Your eyes grow wide when you see him standing there.
“I thought you’d never come at my door again.”
He looks at the floor.
“I shouldn’t.”
He sounds defeated; defeated by his own self. And you can smell the flammable liquid on his breath. And you can see that he has his nails pressed against his palm. You take his hand in yours and he closes his eyes. You caress the little cuts with your fingers. There are no scars but the skin is still red and painted with fear. You understand and it makes you feel dirty and obscene.
You look thoughtful for a moment and then you decide you can’t go on like this. It will split your souls.
“How’s Canada?” His eyes fill with surprise and he laughs. It gives you pride.
“Never been?”
He takes a step inside your place and his eyes fall on the empty bottle of pills at the kitchen table.
He doesn’t say a word about it.
You love him for that.
“I’ve never been anywhere.” Your cheeks are flushed with a soft raspberry color.
Sebastian realizes then that he wants to show you the entire world. Every corner of it. He wants to hold your hand as you walk beneath the Corsican stars. And he wants to memorize the Northern lights with you by his side. And he wants to see you laugh as he falls off his surf board in New Zealand. And he wants every cliché thing there is to do.
His heart stretches at the thought of it.
“Canada is beautiful in its own way.” He looks out of your window.
You wonder if he’s trying to find some more constellations in the sky, but then he turns around and walks towards you.
“I’ve been there a lot of times.”
Of course you have, you think.
He brushes a strand of hair behind your ears. It’s still damp and cold.
“Have you been to a lot of places?” He smiles and nods.
And then you can sense it; the sharp feeling of heartbreak crawling under your skin. You try to ignore it.
“I used to be grateful I travel all the time.”
You place your hand on his chest. The beating makes you calm.
“You’re not grateful anymore?”
He rubs his palm over his face.
“I am,” he inhales “But sometimes I just want to stay where I am.”
Yeah, I know.
He leaves an hour later, still drunk.
Still in love.
/
On Sunday, he takes you out for dinner. You tell him you don’t like dates. He promises it’s not a date.
You know you’re both lying.
He orders some red wine and he drinks as he watches you eat. It all feels natural to him. Somewhere at the back of his head though, there’s still some rationality left, that makes him think, this can’t be wrong, when it feels so natural.
He doesn’t drink any more.
/
You’re playing with the maraschino cherry on your dessert when his phone rings and your world comes crashing down.
You don’t intend to but you see the caller ID.
Love.
He had called you love one night.
He feels too guilty to look at you so he grabs the device and gets out of the place.
You want to throw the ice cream on the floor.
And then you want to hit the wall; with your head. But you can’t. So you just bite down at the cherry and wait for him to come back.
And when he does, things are different.
He doesn’t to try to make jokes and you don’t laugh. His eyes are everywhere but on you and your hand stays away from his.
You tell him you’re done with dessert so you can leave.
He has never felt more relieved.
/
Your pace is fast, but he catches up. You can’t outrun him.
His breath quickens as he comes closer. It’s almost innocent and childlike, the look he gives you.
“I’m sorry.” He whispers and it makes you laugh. You laugh and you shake your head and it’s not enough.
“Why?” He can taste the bitterness all over you. “This wasn’t date. So why are you sorry?”
You keep walking and his breath keeps echoing in your ears. You find the entrance of your building.
You’ve seen the place a hundred times but only now you notice how old it looks. It makes you disgusted. It makes you want to vomit.
It starts with him saying he doesn’t want to hurt anyone.
And then you rest your body at the soiled wall, trying to remind yourself you’ve had your heart broken before. And your eyes are not dry anymore. And you can taste salt in your lips. And he comes closer and he holds you.
You swear you see tears in his cheeks too, but he’s too fast to wipe them away.
“Have you ever done anything only to regret it a second later?”
You’re not certain which one of you asks but you can hear your bones breaking as you throw your head around and he arches his back.
His hands touch the dried tears on your face and it stings like sewing needles. And his lips touch yours. And for a brief moment you feel like you’re stealing from life.
And he can taste all of you; raw.
And it feels like fists that punch him.
And when you pull away you both have already regretted everything.
“Now you have something to be sorry for.”
You wonder if perhaps a broken dignity is better than a broken heart.

one shot where zuko knows how to play a fire nation instrument and the swt wants to hear him play and he plays a song his mother taught him
i love this idea! this takes place in between ch14 and ch15, aka Just Before Everything Went To Shit :)
final word count: 1.5k words
“I have something but first I need an emotional declaration from you.” Tomkin said suddenly, and Zuko peered over his shoulder with a frown to see the other boy approaching him, grinning evilly, Nanook at his side looking just as incriminating.
“An emotional declaration of what?” Zuko asked, suspicious. Nothing good ever came of Tomkin and Nanook scheming like this. He'd only gone outside for a breath of fresh air. They’d left Weihai yesterday, sailing towards Gaoling where Hakoda planned for them to make camp properly for a while. Zuko couldn’t help how much he was looking forward to it. All the ice and sailing made him claustrophobic and for once he just wanted to feel real, normal land beneath his feet. The thought of it had grated at him as he tried to sleep that night, and suddenly, the infirmary felt far too small, the air far too sharp. He knew a few of the warriors were sat outside on deck, chatting into the night and laughing loudly every now and then, but strangely, that wasn’t something that dissuaded Zuko anymore. He felt safe around them, and when something felt wrong, he almost felt... drawn to them.
So he’d sat silently with them up on deck, pretending to listen to whatever ridiculous story Chena was telling, and no one commented on it, and Zuko could just breathe.
Until Tomkin and Nanook showed up, that is.
“You have to say that I’m your best friend over Nanook, otherwise I can’t give it you.” Tomkin said seriously, and Nanook shoved his shoulder.
“Hey,” he hissed, “that’s not what we agreed.”
“No? What did we agree?”
“What is this even about?” Zuko asked, exasperated, but there was a hint of fondness there, and he didn’t hate himself for it. He'd been with the Water Tribe for over three weeks now, and they’d all been through so much together. Zuko had grown, and hurt, and healed, and he... he thought he might be happy here. He thought that maybe he could stay, even if it was only a childish daydream.
Tomkin grinned then, before pulling something large and wooden from behind his back with an excited ‘ta-da!’.
Tulok cocked his head curiously. “Is that a tautirut?”
“That’s what I thought when I first saw it,” Nanook said, looking at the object with a smile, “but the salesman said it’s a pipa. It's Fire Nation!”
Zuko didn’t miss Chena’s mumbled ‘why the fuck-’ cut off by Aput’s elbow in his gut, but he couldn’t tear his eyes away from the object in Tomkin’s hand. It was an instrument, about the size of an arm, a deep wooden brown and with strings over an oval middle, and it was so achingly familiar that Zuko felt his heart sink.
It was a Fire Nation instrument on a Water Tribe ship, and that should have been enough to make Zuko feel this way. Nanook probably bought it in Weihai yesterday, maybe while Zuko was suffering through that horrifically awkward conversation with Chena. For such an instrument to even be sold in the Earth Kingdom... Zuko wished it was uncommon, but he’d seen it a lot while on the Erlong. Fire Nation ships would sink, and belongings would wash up on foreign shores, memories of crewmen who once held music nights. The pipa in Nanook’s hand had been cleaned and refurbished; someone had loved it, even after pulling it from a wreckage. It should have been enough. It should have been the only reason Zuko felt this way.
But his heart was tugging in his chest, and there was more to this than a reminder of the bloody war they sailed through.
Zuko remembered his mother, years and years ago. She had loved music, teaching Zuko easy beats on djembe drums and humming lullabies when he woke to nightmares. This memory was sunkissed, a large room of smooth stone and floor to ceiling windows that drenched every inch of the place with golden light. The room used to be used for parties, dances, but it had hardly been touched since the war started. And one day, Zuko couldn’t have been older than five or six, and Azula was a toddler who still held his hand when she walked, Mother took them to the room of sunshine.
“Come on, Zuko.” Mother had smiled at him softly, and she looked so carefree, a little out of place with the fogginess of the memory. She walked them to a corner of the room where the floor rose into a platform, instruments sat discarded and so fascinating to young fingers. Azula had giggled, reaching for a pipa that Mother quickly plucked out of her grip before she could start pulling the strings apart.
“Can you play it?” Zuko asked, looking at his mother with wide eyes. She was looking at the instrument in her hands fondly, deep in thought. She did this from time to time. This was something Zuko remembered clearly. Mother disappeared sometimes, deep into her mind, into her memories, thinking of moments of her past before it was all snatched from her.
“Hmm, well,” she said, flashing a mischievous grin as she swept aside her long robes in order to sit on the platform step, “let’s see shall we.”
And then she began to play, a fast tune, fingers moving quickly and creating a beautiful melody, and Azula clapped happily as the music filled the room. It made Zuko want to tap his foot along to it, to smile, to move, but that wasn’t proper, and Father had yelled at him only a few days ago for fidgeting too much at dinner.
Mother gave Zuko a reassuring smile, understanding, before turning to one of the servants that were never far. She said something quietly to them, something Zuko couldn’t remember, and the memory faded out of focus here, before sharpening when the music started again, this time his mother stood with him. She picked Azula up, cradling her against her, and Azula smiled happily, small hands framing Mother’s face. Azula used to love being held like that.
“Prince Zuko,” Mother turned to Zuko, grinning as she moved Azula’s weight to be able to hold out a hand to Zuko, “will you dance with me?”
It felt stupid and immature and Zuko said so much, but the music was so lively and Mother looked so happy, and Azula began to laugh when Mother swayed her, and Zuko couldn’t remember taking Mother’s hand, but the next thing he remembered was spinning with her around the room, a grin on his lips and something light in his chest.
Zuko had forgotten that, until now.
“Can you play it?” Tomkin asked eagerly, and Zuko shuffled awkwardly. His mother had taught him a few basic tunes, but Father said Zuko was too disappointing at firebending to be wasting his free time on such frivolous pursuits. Zuko had always loved the instrument though, even after Mother left.
“No.” Zuko said apologetically, because he wasn’t about to find out if he remembered how to play in front of everyone.
“Liar.” Kanut said breezily, not even looking up from the book he was reading when Zuko glared at him. It was dark out; how was Kanut even reading anyway?
“Tui and La, you can play!” Tomkin beamed when he saw the way Zuko was gradually flushing.
“Play something for us!” Nanook joined in.
“Just one song.” Hakoda goaded with a knowing look.
“Come on, brat.” Even Chena was grinning evilly now, and Zuko mentally cursed them all, which wasn’t at all effective, because the next thing he knew, a chant of ‘Zuko! Zuko! Zuko!’ filled the deck as everyone else joined in on causing him misery.
“Alright!” Zuko snapped after a few seconds. “Fine. One song, and then you have to leave me alone for the rest of the night.”
“No deal. Here.” Tomkin said, handing the pipa to Zuko, and Zuko glared murderously at the other boy before sighing, taking the instrument. He was such an Agni-damned pushover.
It was a familiar weight in his hands, despite all these years, and the pads of his fingers remembered the firmness of the strings, the tune each was supposed to make. Zuko forced himself to ignore the way everyone was staring at him, instead focussing on what he could remember. There was one song he’d always liked, one he had once been able to play from muscle memory alone. He wondered...
His fingers began to move and the silence was broken by the soothing sound of a lullaby. It was slow, soft, and it melted against the sound of waves caressing the ship, stars twinkling down above them as if they were leaning in to listen. Zuko chanced a look up, blushing as he continued to play, and saw Tomkin and Nanook looking at him with soft expressions, eyes warm. The song was one for children, to calm them, and between each pluck of a string, it sung of family, of belonging, of love. Zuko had never truly understood how that was supposed to work; how could a simple song convey something like that?
But that night beneath the stars, listening to a soft melody as they drifted through the ocean, Zuko understood.

(TFATWS) Bucky x Reader: Protective- Part 2
Tumblr media
   (Link to Part 1)
You exhaled in relief as you moved to walk beside Sam, looping your arm with his.  It was admittedly more comfortable since you and Sam went back years.  As the group neared the bar, Bucky became more rigid as he took on the appearance of his role.  Zemo led the way, standing as tall and confidently as someone who had the Winter Soldier for a bodyguard.
Sam exhaled sharply once the other two continued on their way, mumbling under his breath, “good ol’ Sam.  Always putting out fires.”  He gave your hand a squeeze.  “You good?”
   “Yeah, you?”
“So far.  I wouldn’t say I’m totally into this plan, but hey, Zemo’s the expert I guess.”
“An expert at being annoying sometimes,” you muttered.  Sam chuckled.
You took a deep breath and put on a smirk, forcing your shoulders to relax a bit.  You caught the sight of several armed individuals scrutinizing the crowd.  You avoided eye contact and instead stole glances at Bucky.  He was already in the zone.
Zemo set foot in the bar and uttered a few words in Russian- ones that you knew to be control words.  Several pairs of eyes were drawn to your group.  “Winter Soldier” was in the mix of whispers.  So many people appeared to be fascinated by the idea of having a human being under their control.  So many of these people hungrily watched your group pass through.  It was a struggle to keep from bristling with alarm.  The pounding music and bright lights only added to the stress, but you kept your cool as you shuffled past several unsavory characters.
A man with large glasses behind the bar approached.
“Hello, gentlemen.”  He nodded in your direction.  “Ma’am.  Wasn’t expecting you, Smiling Tiger.”
You remained at Sam’s side, arm looped with his, and pretended to give him an affectionate look.
“His plans changed,” Zemo answered smoothly.  “We have business to do with Selby.”
The man hesitated, giving Sam an uncertain glance.  “The usual?”
Sam nodded, and the man’s eyes flickered between the two of you before he set to work on preparing a drink.  You nearly froze as he reached into a jar for a dead snake and started slicing it open.  Sam caught your gaze, his eyes widening ever-so-slightly to show you his discomfort at the situation, and you returned the silent cry for help with a subtle shrug.
“Ah,” Zemo broke the silent exchange with a smug look.  “Smiling Tiger, your favorite.”
The glass of alcohol and snake innards was placed on the counter, and you feigned an impressed look while Sam gave Zemo one final glare before picking up the glass.
“I love these,” he stated, though it wasn’t very convincing.
   “Cheers, Conrad.”
You bit your lip to hide your amusement as Sam hesitated, tipping the glass back only to pull it away as he gathered his courage.  Finally, he gulped the revolting beverage and grunted as he struggled to keep it down.
Another man approached Zemo from behind, not going unnoticed by you.  You kept smiling and pretending to be oblivious, though you turned so one ear was closer to the exchange to listen.
“I got word from on-high,” the man said.  ”You ain’t welcome here.”
Zemo turned to face him fully.  “I have no business with the Power Broker, but if he insists, he can either come talk to me...” He gestured to Bucky, who leaned against the counter with a scowl.
   “New haircut?”
“Or bring Selby for a chat.”
The bearded stranger glowered before sauntering away, and Zemo turned around shaking his head in annoyance.  Bucky’s expression lost a degree of harshness.
   “A Power Broker?  Really?”
“Every kingdom needs its king.”  He sighed.  “Let’s just pray we stay under his radar.”
“Do you know him?” Sam asked.
“Only by reputation.  In Madripoor, he is judge, jury, and executioner.”
“Lovely,” you mumbled.  Before you could comment further, Zemo turned around and calmly called Bucky to attention.  The second an individual laid their hands on the baron, Bucky marched forward to grab their wrist with his metal arm, twisting it as he pushed them back. He glanced over his shoulder at the three of you before using his other arm to lock the attacker into a hold.  Something cracked as the man went straight down to the floor, groaning.
Your heart raced.  You knew Bucky had the situation under control.  It was still unsettling to see him in a fight, especially using such lethal combat moves.  His eyes seemed to go blank as he executed his next attack on another individual that launched themselves at him.  The man went flying to the floor, and Bucky gave him a swift kick that sent him rolling.  Zemo took hold of another attacker approaching from behind and sent him Bucky’s way.
A hand rested over yours, and you realized that you had been clutching Sam’s suit sleeve.   He leaned in a little to utter words of reassurance.  “Don’t worry, he’s got this.”
That’s what worried you.  He ended the fights so quickly, so easily, with ferocity that you hadn’t seen since he fell under Zemo’s control before.  Despite his words, you knew Sam noticed too.  The first time you both even met Bucky was when he was the Winter Soldier.  Back then, you had no idea of the person that was underneath all that.
“Didn’t take much for him to fall back into form,” Zemo commented.  As if on cue, Bucky dragged a man by the throat to lay him on the bar with his metal arm.  Choking sounds filled the room for a few seconds until you started hearing the click of guns being cocked and ready to shoot.
On instinct, both you and Sam separated to intervene, but Zemo shot both of you warning glances.  “Stay in character,” he said quietly, “or the whole bar turns on us.” Sam took his hand from Bucky’s shoulder, and instead took your hand again.  Zemo turned to Bucky and spoke the words in Russian to end the attack.
“Selby will see you now,” the bartender said.
   “Thank you.”
Bucky finally released his hold, and the man gasped for air as he crumbled to the floor.  Sam took the opportunity to look Bucky in the eyes.  “You good?”
Bucky merely exhaled sharply in confirmation, eyes falling to you for the first time since setting foot in that place.  Something flickered in them before he turned and followed after Zemo.
- - - - - - - -
You slipped out of the dress and began changing into the new clothes Sharon provided, glad that this outfit was a little more on the casual side.  Both you and Sam struggled to keep up in heels after the Selby fiasco.  It was a relief to finally kick them off your feet.  You stared at your reflection in the full-length mirror after you were dressed.  What an evening it was turning out to be.  An undercover mission turned into a firefight and an escape with the help of an old ally.  Fortunately, Zemo had been able to get a name out of Selby.  The next step was finding Dr. Nagel.
You emerged from the room to see Bucky leaning against the wall beside your door, already changed.  He looked up from the floor upon your approach.
   “Hey,” you greeted.  “You okay?”
   “Yeah.  You hurt at all?”
“Thanks to Sharon, I made it out without so much as a scratch.”
Bucky nodded in agreement, shifting so that he leaned on his other shoulder.  He averted his eyes and scratched the back of his neck.  His lips parted, but no sound came out when he met your gaze.  You waited patiently.
“Look, I wanted to talk about earlier.  About Zemo.  About me and how I acted.”
   “It’s okay…”
   “No, it’s not.  Not really.”
“Zemo has been trying his best to push our buttons,” you pointed out.  “Sometimes it worked, and sometimes it didn’t.”
“It’s not just that.”  Bucky tipped his head back to rest it against the wall.  “Zemo knows things about me- things that I’d rather you hear from me directly instead of through his weird mind games.”
Concern bubbled up inside of you.  What sort of things was he talking about?  Were there indeed more signs of the Winter Soldier lurking underneath?  Did Zemo have something over Bucky?
“I don’t understand,” you murmured, heart aching for him, as you reached out a hand.  Your fingers brushed through the short hair on the side of his head, and his eyes fell closed as he allowed the contact, even leaned into it.  Casual contact wasn’t uncommon between you two: the occasional brush of hands when passing something to the other, feeling his chest against your back when taking cover during firefights, or even on really good days a light punch to the shoulder with a laugh.  This was different, though.  This wasn’t a line you’d crossed before in the time you’d known him.  “I don’t understand, but you know you can tell me anything.”
His eyes opened, and he angled his head to look at you fully.  “I know.”  Then, he pushed off the wall, gently taking your hand from his hair.  He held it in his own and studied your expression as he continued.
“Zemo knows what you mean to me.  You, specifically.  I don’t know what you’d call it.  I don’t even want to say you’re my weakness because… the truth is, you’re my strength.”
Your lips parted at the tender words that you’d certainly not been expecting.  Bucky held your stare, though his mouth turned up briefly in a nervous smile.
“I know I probably sound ridiculous right now.  Here we are in the middle of a mission.  The thing is, every time we put ourselves at risk, I wanted to tell you.  But every time, I waited because, well, I still wasn’t right for a while.  It took time to be purged from the Winter Soldier.  Now, I just don’t have it in me to keep this from you any longer.”
You offered a smile, though part of you was scared to hope.  Was this confession merely the result of the stress of Steve’s absence?  Zemo’s taunts?  You didn’t want this if that were the case.  “Are you sure this is how you feel?  I’m sure Zemo’s games haven’t really been helping.”
“Trust me, he doesn’t have anything to do with this,” Bucky shook his head.  “I just don’t like him bothering you.  At all.”  He sighed.  “I’ve felt this way for a long time, ________.  Before the snap.  I know we weren’t here for those five years, but I came back thinking about you.  Haven’t stopped since.”
Your eyes had begun to water as emotion gripped you.  Suddenly, it was hard to swallow, and it was hard to look at him when it registered that you were indeed crying.  You tried to hide your face, and Bucky put an arm around you to pull you to his chest.
“Hey, it’s okay,” he mumbled.  “Obviously, you don’t have to feel the same way.  I’m not mad.  Just please, don’t cry.”
“What?” you sniffled.  “No…”  You pulled away to face him with teary eyes and all.  “I do feel the same way.  I just can’t believe you do too.”
He exhaled, pulling you to his chest again, and chuckled at the end.  “You had me there for a second.  But seriously, it would’ve been okay if you didn’t feel the same way.  I just had to tell you.”  He searched your face as if still unsure, as if giving you another opportunity to retract your confession.  Like you’d ever do that.
With your hand still in his, you lifted the other to brush the stubble and rest on his cheek.  He raised his gloved vibranium hand to cover that one.  His eyes were magnetic, drawing you in.  Seconds passed before your lips met in a warm kiss that made you feel like you were flying.  He pulled away, keeping his forehead pressed against yours.  A smile unlike one you’d seen in a long time on him spread across his face.  Both of you chuckled quietly in the hall.  Despite what was going on in the world, at that moment, you felt so giddy.  You let out another chuckle as his stubble brushed your chin as he kissed you again.
“Oh, well then.”  A female cleared her voice further down the hall, and both of you parted to see Sharon standing there with her hands in her pockets.  “This is a new development.”  She raised her brows at you.  “Everyone’s changed.  We’re heading down to the party so I can ask around about Nagel.”
“Okay,” you nodded.  “Thank you, Sharon.”
“Uhuh.”  She turned to head back out, pausing to give you another pointed look.  “Watch out for these types.  They sometimes have a habit of kissing you and then never calling.”
You winced at the comment as she disappeared around the corner.  Bucky’s eyebrows raised as he let out an awkward whistle.  “Wow.”
“I understand where she’s coming from,” you mumbled.  “I can’t believe all this time she was out here, and Steve just...”
“I know,” Bucky said gently.  “Anyway, we’ve gotta’ go.”  He held your hand and began to lead the way down the hall, though stopped when you hesitated.   “You think she’ll say anything to the others about...um…?”
“Doesn’t matter.”  He shrugged.  “I’m just glad it wasn’t Zemo, or else we wouldn’t hear the end of it.”

Lightning Scars and Listening Ears
Phic phight prompt by @datawyrms : Danny Phantom's jumpsuit is hiding a secret he'd rather not reveal to anyone. (feel free to be metaphorical if you want.) l
Team Human: @currentlylurking
Most citizens of Amity Park often forgot that Phantom wasn’t human. Sure he would fly through the skies, turn invisible, and shoot ectoplasm at the ghosts who would attack the city on a daily basis, but the way he acted when not saving the city always seemed so alive. That’s where the problem lied though. The ghost kid wasn’t alive, a fact that Amity Park never actually thought much about.
Phantom was playing around with some kids in the park when it all happened. It wasn’t an uncommon occurrence to see the boy play with the younger citizens of the city, under their parents supervision most of the time. Seeing him give them piggyback rides and playing tag was actually a common sight when there were no ghosts to fight. Phantom had six different kids hanging off of his arms and legs, apparently trying to tackle him and get him to fall down. The group of parents laughed at the sight as the teenage hero fell to the ground admitting his defeat in a dramatic flourish. “Ahh you got me! Foul villains, you will regret this!” He laughed as he lunged at the closest kid and launched a tickle attack. Childish squeels rang out as the uncaptured children ran trying to avoid being tickled. The little girl in his arms was finally released from her attacker when she turned on Phantom and started to tickle him back. His laughter attracted the other kids who scattered and they joined the counter attack.
“I yield I yield!” He flailed his arms as a dozen little hands tickled any spot they could reach. The kids slowly let up their assault leaving the teen gasping for breath.
One of the children, the girl who started the attack on Phantom, pulled on his arm. “Mr. Phantom? What’s that did you get a owie?” She asked pointing to his neck where part of his jumpsuit wrinkled down revealing a few red raised streaks maring his skin.
Phantom froze eyes jumping over to the adults just a few feet over who had stopped their conversation to try to see what the young girl was asking about. He quickly pulled the collar of his suit back into place. He gave the girl and the other kids surrounding him a pained smile. “Yeah I did get an owie. Don’t worry though I’m fine, doesn’t even hurt anymore.” Suddenly blue frost escaped his lips, the adults sitting nearby never saw him more relieved to have a ghost show up than in that moment. He gave quick goodbyes to the kids before shooting off to find the day's threat to the city.
All the adults gathered waved over their respective kids. While they trusted Phantom to get rid of the threat it was always smart to stay inside during a ghost attack. A loud boom sounded in the direction where Phantom flew off, shaking the ground. They all gave each other uncertain looks. “My house is closest we can take shelter there.” One of the men said leading everyone away.
After a block of running the group was almost to shelter when the ghost fight moved over their heads. The adults grabbed onto the children doing their best to shield them from the flying debris. They held the kids against their chests as they watched the sky in horror. They didn’t recognize the attacking ghost, but it was certainly doing a number on Phantom. The rest of the battle lasted at most a minute when Phantom managed to suck up the ghost into his thermos before he seemed to wobble in the sky and falling to the ground creating a small crater where he landed.
The man who was leading the group passed off the kid he was holding to the man next to him. “David what are you-?”
“Brian just hold her.” He ran over to the fallen teen and picked him up in a fireman's carry and rushed the rest of the way to his house.
Once he arrived he kicked open the door and placed the teen onto the couch in his living room. He looked down trying to assess the situation. Phantom’s jumpsuit was torn in numerous places exposing spots of his arms, neck, and chest that had splatterings of green ectoplasm across the exposed flesh. He started taking the rest of the jumpsuit off of the teen wanting to make sure there were no hidden injuries underneath. Behind him he could hear his husband and the other parents come through the door. “Get me a wet rag and some warm water!” He yelled behind him.
Once he was handed the items he started working on cleaning up the cuts and wiping off the ectoplasm. He silently thanked any higher being out there that he took a first aid class a few years back. The wounds actually seemed less severe than what David initially thought, that or the kid had some seriously advanced healing. One of the parents led the kids upstairs while the rest of them crowded around David and Phantom.
Once Phantom was as patched up as he could be David finally sat back and actually took a full look at the boy. His breath caught in his throat as he examined the body infront of him. In the end all he could get out was.“Oh my god. He’s- he’s dead.”
“What the hell do you mean? Of course he’s not, I can clearly see him breathing right now.” One of the parents protested.
David shook his head. “No.” He went to run his hands down his face before spotting the blood- no the ectoplasm covering them and settled for grabbing onto his husband for support. “No, I mean he’s a ghost.”
“Well yeah he’s a ghost it’s not like that’s news now is it?” Brian said running his hand up and down his husband's back.
“You guys don’t get it.” David pulled back. “Think! Look!” He ran his hand through his hair, staining it green. “Look at him.” He pointed at the teen’s unconscious body. There were lightning shaped scars running all over the boy’s body, from the base of his neck trailing all the way down to his ankles. Those weren’t the only scars marring his body though, small scars were scattered all over his body, there was a rather large one on his abdomen in the same spot where he was hit the other week fighting off a ghost who was attacking the high school. The gathered adults looked back at Phantom’s face. As he slept he almost looked like a normal teenager, there were small bags under his eyes, his closed eyes hid the toxic green color, and the glow surrounding him was almost nonexistent.
Three things seemed to dawn on the parents all at once.
1: Phantom at some point had died
2: He died young, at most he was just out of middle school when it happened.
3: From the looks of it he didn’t die in his sleep but painfully. They all silently hoped that at least it wasn’t drawn out.
As they all looked at each other they couldn’t help but think of their own children who were just upstairs. Did Phantom have a family? Did his parents miss their little boy? Do they know that Phantom was their son? Even worse, the boy had a jumpsuit on when he died, was his parents the cause of his premature death?
Of course if Phantom was conscious, didn’t have to worry about the whole identity thing, and could read their minds the boy would quickly put their minds to rest responding; yes, no he sees them daily, god no, and sorta it really was more of a case of teenage stupidity than his parents fault though.
Two of those issues though were quickly resolved as two white rings shocked the group out of their grief for a boy they hardly knew. The rings traveled across the boy’s body replacing bare skin with street clothes and white hair with black. Everyone looked at Phantom(?) confused, the boy in front of them was very unghost-like and the scratch on his face that was previously bleeding green now had a red where the scab was forming.
“What the fu- wait isn’t that the Fenton kid, Danny I think?” David asked looking back at the other parents who were in the same amount of shock that he was. Actually he was positive it was him, his older sister Jazz used to babysit their daughter and he would sometimes come along. If someone was going to respond they were cut off as the boy in front of them started to stir and open his eyes. He sat up almost falling off the couch in his panic, thankfully David was quick enough to catch him. “Woah there Danny, be careful you took a pretty bad beating out there. Hell I’m surprised you’re already awake to be honest kid.”
Danny gave him a thankful smile as he steadied himself. He froze once he caught a glimpse of his hair, his eyes shot down to his clothes. He looked back up and noticed the group of adults in front of him. “Now before you jump to any conclusions there’s a very reasonable explanation for this, or there will be just give me a few minutes.” “Wait so does this mean you’re not dead?” Brian asked.
“Brian you can’t just ask that! What if it’s a sensitive subject?” David scolded his husband then looked over at Danny. “Sorry about him.”
Danny looked over to the men who for some reason had hope in their eyes. “What? It’s fine. I mean I guess no- well yes- no- sorta- it’s complicated.”
As Danny looked at the numerous questioning eyes he sighed. It’s not like he could convince them that it was a trick of the light or something. And he did owe them since they patched him up better than he would have been able to at home in his bedroom. But before he could start he turned to David. “I’ll tell you guys everything but first um… is that my ectoplasm in your hair and on your hands? Because if so you probably should wash that off, prolonged exposure isn’t harmful per say but you could start to glow or something if you don’t wash it off soon.”
David looked down to his hands, apparently just now remembering he was still covered in the boy’s ectoplasm and rushed to the bathroom to wash it off. He’d worry about why the sight of his own blood- ectoplasm didn’t phase Danny at all later.
Once David returned, now free of ectoplasm, Danny sat down and started from the beginning. At one point in the story he must have started to cry because he was handed a tissue box, which he accepted with a thanks. By the end he wasn’t the only one with tears in his eyes, one of the adults had to go into the kitchen to compose themselves. Danny didn’t really understand why though, sure he sort of half died, but he didn’t see why it would affect any of them. “Hey! It’s fine, I’m fine it’s not a big deal! I mean it’s not like it only happened to me. Vlad went through it too like 20 years ago.” Danny seized up after he said that. “Don’t tell him you know about him though! Me not telling anyone about him is the only reason he’s not trying to fully kill me when we fight. That and he has a weird obsession with my mom and me.”
David paused at that. “So you’re telling us that not only did you go through a highly traumatic situation at a young age, but the only adult that even knows about it has tried to kill you multiple times?”
“I mean I guess but Jazz, my sister, knows about it too and she’s older than me and my friends.”
“Danny she’s also still a kid, an older one sure, but she is not an adult. Even if you didn’t go to your parents, was there no one else you could have talked to about it with? A therapist maybe?” David asked.
Danny laughed. “Ah no, Jazz tried having me go to the school therapist but she turned out to be a ghost who wanted to try to cause as much pain as possible. She even almost killed Jazz in front of the whole school.”
“Dear god.” David sighed. “All right, we will all keep your secret on one condition.”  Danny cringed and looked down at his lap, of course there was a catch. He just hoped it wasn’t anything too bad like letting them run a bunch of experiments on him whenever they wanted to. His ghost injuries were bad enough to hide from others, he didn’t need to have to explain away needle marks or something. “You’ll see Brian once a week for therapy sessions. He’s a licensed psychiatrist.”
“Wait what?” Danny looked up confused.
“Oh don’t worry I won’t charge you of course since we are forcing you to do this, and obviously you can choose the day of the week. I usually don't work fridays or the weekends but if those are the only days that work I’m sure we can rearrange some of our family time to make room for you.” Brian smiled. “Now it’s getting pretty late isn’t it? I’m sure it’s about time everyone here starts to head home now hmm? Of course if you aren’t feeling well enough Danny I can call your parent’s up and just let them know you’ll be staying here. I’ll just tell them you were injured in a ghost fight, not exactly lying now is it?”
“Um no I’m fine enough to walk home thank you though.” Danny said. Everyone started saying their goodbyes and calling the children down to get them ready to leave. Danny was the last one left, he was almost out the door when he was stopped by David handing him a piece of paper.
“Here are our numbers, I also wrote down where Brian’s office is, you can set up your appointment over text. As well as our address, you can stop by or call us for any reason Danny and I mean it okay, any.”
Danny looked down at the paper and pocketed it with a nod. As he left he felt almost lighter for some reason. Maybe having adults who knew and didn’t want to kill him but actually wanted to help him wasn’t so bad after all.

Venti: First Meeting and Friendship HCs
Tumblr media
First Meeting HCs
————————————————————
The god of freedom certainly lived up to the title. A truly free spirit who only wished the same for others. He shaped the many hills and cliffs of Mondstadt with his own hand, and graciously bestowed his powers unto those he deemed worthy. And yet…there he sat - teetering on the edge of a barstool, completely and utterly intoxicated.
The red-head manning the bar rolls his eyes at the sorry display the archon was creating, and resumes cleaning the glass in his hand. However as a bell rings out - signaling a new patron - he looks up.
You enter the famed “Angels Share”, the best tavern in Mondstadt - or so you’ve been told. Really, you’ll decide that for yourself - is what you think as you slide into an empty seat at the bar. Eager to unwind after a long day of adventuring, you order your drink and attempt to relax.
But really, your night didn’t end how you’d hoped at all. You ended up with a loud and incredibly clingy bard hanging off of your shoulder spouting barely comprehensible rhymes and poems. You would’ve found amusement in the spectacle if you weren’t so tired. Shrugging him off did no good, as he was surprisingly strong for someone so small.
Thankfully, you got your sweet freedom as the bartender cut him off for the night, presenting the smaller boy with the shockingly large bill. A wave of pity washes over you as his face drops at the number.
He laughs awkwardly, attempting to convince the bartender that he could pay by other means, but the stoic man only sighs, trying to explain to the drop-dead drunk bard that he cannot keep the tavern open with “songs and sonnets”.
Really you were quite done with your failed attempt at relaxation - wanting to go home and just sleep the night away. Sliding a bag of Mora across the counter you state that it should be enough to cover both of your tabs. That was essentially all you’d earned via commission today, though, you can’t really find a reason to be mad about the extra expenditure. Helping people out - that’s just what you do. You don’t look twice as you exit the bar, though you feel a pair of eyes on your hooded figure as the door swings shut.
And that was that - you never saw the drunken bard again. Or so you thought. As the very next day you spotted him out of the corner of your eye while scouting around a Hilichurl camp, but as soon as you looked he was gone. And then that very same evening as you sat down for dinner at Good Hunter. Then several times over the next few days.
It was ticking you off, not just the fact that you had pretty much obtained a stalker, but the extra stress he brought with him as you now had to worry about his well being on top of yours during battle. You even started taking less dangerous commissions to further guarantee his safety. You didn’t really know or like the guy, but you certainly didn’t want him hurt, or worse; dead.
And by that point he wasn’t even trying to hide or disguise himself - trailing a few feet behind you nearly everywhere you went, drawing perplexed gazes from the townsfolk as you wandered from store to store for supplies. You were trying your best to keep your composure - to pretend he wasn’t even there in the first place - but the longer the charade went on the more cracks that appeared in your mask.
You didn’t mean to snap at him, honestly, but you were tired of putting up with a complete stranger following you around for no good reason - so you yelled at him. Right there in the middle of the market, the bard stood stunned - taken aback by your sudden outburst. He recovered quickly of course, smiling up/down at you like he hadn’t just been shouted at in clear view of the publics eye.
He hastily explains his actions, identifying himself as Venti - a travelling bard seeking inspiration for his next story. That night in the bar, he had been there lamenting - drowning his sorrows in wine over his recent pieces. They were all lacking ingenuity - a certain bit of flair that makes a story truly unforgettable. And that’s where you came in. You had caught his attention with your selfless act of generosity, so much so that it had given him that spark he he had been searching for. So naturally, he followed that spark - hoping it would continue to present him with the same creativity as before.
As you listen to his reasoning, the initial anger you felt mellows. You’re more than relieved that he’s not actually a creepy stalker, just a bard looking for inspiration.
Apologizing sheepishly for your actions, you scratch the back of your head. In that moment it was impossible to look into the boys eyes. You felt bad, truly. You had misread the situation entirely - thought it wasn’t all your fault. If the bard had simply approached you in the first place this whole fiasco could’ve all been avoided.
As you voice these thoughts to Venti he hums in understanding. He returns your apology with one of his own - bowing deeply with his beret in hand - shocking you and the few random townsfolk still paying attention to the scene.
Deeply embarrassed by the confused gazes the bard was drawing to them, you hastily accept his apology, tugging your hood further down to hide your hot face. Honestly the idea of just running away from the situation sounded quite appealing, but instead you restrain the urge - opting to walk past the boy as quick as possible.
Just as your shoulders brush, a hand latches onto your wrist - stopping your escape in its tracks. This time it’s Ventis turn to look sheepish, as he officially asks to accompany you on your exploits. He offers you entertainment and conversation, as well as any other skills he may or may not have - the latter only serving to confuse rather than convince you.
“Your journey would be far more enjoyable with a skilled bard such as myself by your side. Perhaps you would even allow me to write a ballad of your conquests?”
It’s not entirely uncommon for a bard to travel with an adventurer for inspiration, you suppose to yourself. Though you’re still more than a bit apprehensive on the matter. It’s not that you don’t want his company - really it does get quite lonely alone out on the road - it’s simply his safety that concerns you. But upon voicing this Venti simply chuckles, exclaiming that he’s much stronger than his appearance lets on.
Now - with no real reason to refuse - you accept his offer, earning a cheer from the bard. And so your joint journey began - you and Venti against whatever tasks or monsters needed tackling.

Friendship HC
————————————————————
It goes without saying that if you didn’t have a vision before, you certainly have one now. Within the first week in fact. Waking up in the early hours of the day to a soft blue glowing vision beside your head was not something you ever thought you’d experience - but of course you’re not complaining.
Upon shaking the bard awake to show him your discovery he only gives a rather tame reaction - as if he already knew you had it.
“Hmm? You woke up to a vision by your side? My, my - what luck you seem to possess! Perhaps now you may go into battle with less distress.”
Travelling with Venti is never dull, as he fills the silence with stories of old - tales of the long deserted original city of Mondstadt, the creation of the seven nations themselves and other obscurities that you don’t remember hearing about in any history book. Often times he interrupts his own story to spill his own hot take on a major historical figure or deity - hearing him call Andrius a “mother hen in denial” had you spit out your drink. His storytimes often end with you wondering how exactly someone so young would have knowledge of times long gone. He always shrugs it off, quickly changing the subject with a smile filled with secrets. For a boy so young he talks as if he’s been around for centuries.
Any looming worries over his well being are quickly dismissed once you see him fight. His nimble fingers and sharp eyes shoot down all matter of foes in rapid succession, and his skills at utilizing anemo are completely unparalleled. Really, you’re left wondering how he’s not the adventurer here.
You will absolutely fall victim to his pranks there’s nothing you can do about it. Whether it’s the wind blowing your cloak around in your face, extra jueyun chilies in your food or a slime condensate down the back of your shirt - you cannot escape the impish bards mischievous side. It’s when he suddenly falls quiet that you have to worry. A silent Venti is a scheming Venti.
However this is not a one-sided deal at all, he welcomes - no, insists - that you prank him back. He doesn’t want you to be left out of the fun after all! So get him back for that frog he put in your pack, or the time he kept pushing air currents in your direction so you couldn’t land your glider. Really; the more creative the better. If you’re able to prank him successfully he’ll laugh with you as you celebrate, praising you for your victory. But be warned that his next scheme will be twice as good as yours.
If you ever need a break from his shenanigans, go hang out with a cat. He won’t approach you while the animal is around, however he will be pouting up a storm from a distance.
You’ve gotten to discover many quirks of the bard clad in green over time, like how the tips of his hair seem to glow brighter when he’s in a good mood - especially when he laughs, and that he’s completely repulsed by cheese. If he ever bothers you too much you can get him back by chasing him while holding the stuff. Some of that nasty, stinky stuff Sara has at Good Hunter should do the trick. Mind you that the boy is incredibly spry - so good luck keeping up.
Eventually, he ends up revealing his true identity to you after the guilt of lying begins to eat away at his heart - making it harder to keep up his persona. Really he’d wanted to tell you for months at that point, but a lingering feeling of apprehension - a worry that you may no longer see him the same way - kept holding him back.
“Y/N, I wish to tell you a truth I’ve been hiding. You see…in reality, I am Lord Barbatos.”
“…”
“That…actually explains so much…”
He’s relieved to find that nothing has changed between the two of you after his revelation. You still treat him like Venti the bard, just as you always have. It’s a weight off his shoulders to be sure, and you can tell his overall mood has improved too.
It’s still kind of shocking when he switches to “Barbatos mode”, as you’ve taken to calling it. Spouting bars of philosophical gibberish at the most random of times leaves you blinking in utter confusion and often times just hurts your brain.
At the end of the day, the God of freedom is incredibly lonely. The best way to describe it is that he’s detached - he’s out of touch with his ever-changing homeland and the people that reside in it. Only ever appearing to handle a major problem or calamity at hand and then sending himself into a deep slumber for hundreds of years.
Waking up each time is like mental whiplash for the poor god, as he sees towns rise and fall, people come and go and things change again just he’s beginning to get used them. It takes a toll on him - though he won’t let anyone see that.
He craves companionship and the feeling of belonging that comes with it more than anything. Placing unconditional trust in someone else, backing them up when the goings get tough and having them do the same in return. Providing a shoulder to lean on in moments of weakness and being so comfortable that breathing easy becomes the simplest thing in the world. That’s what he wants. Barbatos may not be human but his vessel is.
That’s why Barbatos cherishes his friendship with you so much. He knows you - like all other humans - have a finite amount of time in this world. In time, wrinkles will adorn your face, and strands of silvery gray will appear in your hair. You bones will ache as age seeps into your body. And yet he will experience no such afflictions - forever wearing the face of a young boy from another time. Ever ageless, frozen in time.
The dull ache that spreads through his chest at the thought of watching the one who he considers his closest friend wither away in front of him is…crushing. Even though he knows your time alive is brief, and that your death would only cause him more pain - he can’t stop himself.
He’ll spend nearly every day by your side, telling you tales of yore, pulling pranks and practical jokes, covering your back in battle and being there when you need it most. He wants you to experience the land and all its freedoms. He wants you to get the most out of what little time you have in such a vast and expansive world.
You’re the closest friend he’s had since the real Venti - and he sees bits of him in you too. You help fill the gaping hole of loneliness in his chest - one stemming from a millennia of duty and repressed guilt.
He knows you’ll eventually leave him, and one day hopefully he’ll come to terms with that. But for now, he’s content with you by his side, racing off into whatever dangers lie ahead.

It’s What We Make It
Just a warning, this is technically based in S2 but at the same time it’s not. It contains scenes from seasons I like but it doesn’t follow the show’s timeline. Also, a lot of time skips because I’m lazy.
This took me two weeks to write and though I wish it could be better, I’m done with it. It was meant to be a request fulfil but it’s so far gone from that lol. Also this better appear in the bloody tags otherwise I’ll fight someone

The night (Y/N) escaped from her family's home would be a night she would never forget.
She disappeared in the middle of the night and triggered the plan she had spent almost a year planning. Due to what her family did for a living, she worked alone in case she got caught.
Her family had enough money to the point where they wouldn't notice a small amount going missing, which is exactly what she did. She took enough to ensure she left the country quickly and safely. She also stashed a few jewels and other expensive items to sell once she reached her destination.
She planned to go to England. She didn’t know where in England she would go but England was far away enough from her home country that she should be able to live comfortably and without fear.
(Y/N) didn’t know what her family would think about her disappearance, maybe they’d think that a rival gang had kidnapped her, but she knew that they wouldn’t let it simply go and they would send people to look for her.
.•° ✿ °•.
Once (Y/N) arrived in England, she took a random train to Birmingham and then another to Small Heath. She had no clue where she was going or what these places were like but she did not let that stop her and if it was not the place for her, then she would move on.
When she arrived it was late in the day but the streets were not quiet and (Y/N) could see a pub at the end of the street that was filled with people to the point that people spilled out onto the street outside and the faint sound of people talking and singing spilled out alongside them.
(Y/N) gave the pub one last glance before she made her way into the small hotel and paid for a room. She would spend a few days at the hotel and discovering the place before she decided if Small Heath was a place where she was to stay long term.
(Y/N) garnered a few stares of curiosity as she walked around Small Heath which wasn’t surprising since she was clearly an outsider. The town was clearly one that wasn’t used to new people but they seemed merely curious at best.
She wandered around the main road where all the shops rested, making mental notes of them and she passed by the pub that was alive with people the night before stopped by a small cafe for lunch. The sweet owner easily answered any questions she had, seemingly not having an issue with the fact that she wasn’t from around there and even though she had only been in Small Heath for less than two days, (Y/N) was pretty sure this was the place she wanted to stay.
She asked the cafe owner about any job openings in town and was informed of the Garrison, the pub she saw earlier, was looking for a barmaid.
(Y/N) had never worked a day in her life but she wouldn’t be able to survive for long on the money she got from selling the stuff she had brought with her. She didn’t have the skills or the experience to become a barmaid or for any job for that matter, as she never had a reason to. Her family had drilled into her at a young age that once she was old enough, she would be married to another gang family. Either as a gift to thank a family that had been long loyal or to a rival to calm rising tensions and to gain allies.
She had been coddled for her entire life. Her parents gave her the best tutors in the country but she had barely left their manor at all through her childhood, which gave no social skills or friends but that was all about to change.
When she entered the pub, there was only one man in there and he was sweeping the floor but he looked up when she walked in.
“I heard that you were looking for a barmaid?” (Y/N) spoke first, when the man did not.
The man looked her up and down with a disbelieving stare, “You? A barmaid? Don’t make me laugh”
“Please,” (Y/N) took a step forward, “I’m desperate”
“Look, the people around here aren’t nice. Especially when they are drunk. You just look a bit too delicate to work here”
“I can hold my own”
She could. It wasn’t uncommon for her father to hold parties or dinners where he and his allies would drink until the sun rose and he’d always make her stay the entire night, most likely to show off how dutiful she was.  After all, the men in that type of business weren’t looking for a headstrong and independent woman, they’re looking for a meek woman that would obey their instructions and carry their children to continue the family name and (Y/N) wasn’t that type of woman.
The man still didn’t look like he believed her but he must have seen the desperation in her eyes as he let out a resigned sigh, “Trial run tonight. If you do well, you get the job.”
(Y/N) bobs her head with a pleased smile, “Thank you.”
“Harry” The man held out his hand.
(Y/N) shook it, giving him her name.
“Seven pm on the dot tonight.”
“Thank you, Harry, I’ll be there”
.•° ✿ °•.
At seven pm, the pub only had a few customers but she dealt with those easily. Harry had taught her how to pour a pint and create a few other drinks and luckily for her, the people of Small Heath were simple when it came to their drinks.
By nine pm, the Garrison was filled to the brim with people. A portion of the pub was loudly singing along to the song that the woman at the piano was playing and the rest of the patrons were talking with their friends, almost shouting to be heard above the singing.
The atmosphere was unlike anything (Y/N) had ever experienced before but she found herself enjoying it. She didn’t think she stopped moving for a moment as she spun around the bar, fulfilling orders until a small window at the corner of the bar, something she hadn’t noticed until that moment had opened up, causing her to pause in her steps. It was more out of surprise than anything else at first but the man at the other side of the window with his bright blue eyes had also caught her attention.
With Harry busy, (Y/N) made her way to the small window, “...May I help you?”
The man’s eyes flickered up to her and he seemed speechless for a moment before he orders, “Two bottles of dark rum and four glasses”
(Y/N) nods and turns around only to smack straight into Harry’s chest.
“I’ll get that for you, Tommy. (Y/N) there are some people down at the end who want some ale”
(Y/N) looks up at Harry, confused on why he suddenly butt in and took over the order but just as she was going to silently nod and do as she was told but ‘Tommy’, spoke up before she could.
“Let her do it, Harry. She looks perfectly capable”
Harry looked like he would argue, but he quickly nodded and allowed (Y/N) to get the drinks but he quickly followed behind her.
“Anything that he or the other members of the Shelby family is free of charge.”
(Y/N) frowned and turned to ask him why but he had already disappeared to fulfil the orders of the other patrons.
She picked up the two bottles of rum and placed them by the window before she went off to collect the glasses.
“Harry says everything is on the house,” She says as he places the glasses down next to the bottles of rum, hoping that he could explain why.
“Hmm,” The man simply hummed as he picked up the drinks and placed them on the table in the snug behind him.
He turned around but stopped midway before he turned back to face her, looking at her up and down. “You’re not from around here”
“What gave it away?” (Y/N) responded sarcastically, knowing that her accent stood out.
“What’s your name?” Tommy’s interest had been piqued and he leant forward on the bartop
“What’s yours?” (YN) threw back.
Tommy squinted his eyes and (Y/N) raised an eyebrow. She had been raised amongst egotistical and big-headed men and she knew how to deal with them.
“Tommy Shelby”
“(Y/N)”
“I’ll see you again, (Y/N)”
“I’ll make sure of it, Mr Shelby”
Tommy gave her one last nod before he disappeared into the snug and closed the window doors behind him.
(Y/N) was swept up with the rest of the customers the rest of the night and only got a break when they had closed up for the night and she was cleaning up.
“Listen, (Y/N), it’s best if you try to keep away from the Shelby’s.”
“What do you mean?”
“Just promise me that you’ll stay away from them?”
“Only if I have the job”
Harry was silent for a moment before he sighed and nodded “Alright, you have the job. You did good tonight anyway.”
“Thank you, Harry”
(Y/N) had spent the rest of the night looking at places to rent in the newspaper, marking down which one suited her needs, making notes to call the landlords in the morning. With a secure job, she could now start to settle down in Small Heath.
.•° ✿ °•.
(Y/N) found a small flat that was perfect for her, she had paid a deposit and the first month of rent before moving herself and her singular suitcase into her new place. It was the opposite of what she grew up with but she found that it didn’t affect her as much as she thought it would. Her old bedroom was at least four times as big as her dingy little flat but she found the little room appropriate enough and she was determined to perservere and not give up.
Once she had finished settling in, she took another walk around Small Heath before she had to go in to work that evening.
She had found herself by the cut and she stood right by the edge with the tips of her shoes just over the edge as she thought about her life. She knew it wouldn’t be long before her family somehow narrow where she had run off too, no doubt they had already sent men to America, Australia and England already but she hoped that Small Heath was a small enough place that she’d have at least a few years before she had to move on.
“Hullo”
(Y/N) swung around, not hearing whoever it was come up behind her but her momentum had caused her to trip over her feet and fall backwards, falling into the canal with a loud splash. Her thick coat and her shoes had weighed her down as she struggled to resurface.
Tommy raced over to the edge and kicked off his shoes and shrugged off his coat and cap before he dived in after her. He swam down until he could see her and reached out and grabbed her arm before he started to swim to the surface, pulling her along.
When they both reached the surface, they gasped for air and (Y/N) coughed and sputtered out the water that she had accidentally swallowed. Tommy swam to edge, still tugging her along before he pulled himself out of the water before helping her out.
(Y/N) coughed a few more times before falling back so that she was flat on her back as she stared up at the sky.
Tommy walked over to her and looked down at her, “You alright?”
(Y/N) glared at him as she took his offered hand and stood up, “Do you creep up behind every woman you know?”
“Only the ones that fascinate me”
His words caused (Y/N)’s glare to falter, “I suppose I should feel flattered then ?”
Tommy ignored her question as he turned on his heel and began to walk away before he called out to her over his shoulder, “C’mon, follow me”
(Y/N) grimaced as she moved to follow after him, her stocking covered feet squelched in her heels as she walked behind him. The rest of her clothes clung to her uncomfortably and her hair stuck to her face and neck.
She didn’t know where Tommy was going and she didn’t exactly know why she was following him either but she supposed he fascinated her as she did him.
He took her to Watery Lane and into one of the houses, and she still squeaked uncomfortably behind him as she followed him into the kitchen.
“Sit”
Tommy pointed to a random seat before he shuffled around the kitchen putting a full kettle on the stovetop and letting it boil while (Y/N) sat down as he instructed.
(Y/N) looked at the kitchen around her in curiosity. The walls had been knocked down to let it be more open and just to the side of her there was a large green double door which she guessed led to the property next door but she had no clue why. She could hear the faint sounds of people talking through it but it was too muffled to hear anything clearly.
Just as she snapped out of her mind, Tommy had placed a cup down in front of her.
(Y/N) looked down at the cup in curiosity, “What’s this?”
Tommy sat down on the other side of the table, across from her with his own cup.
“Tea. To warm you up”
“What type of ‘tea’?” (Y/N) asked, “Anyway, I think getting out of my wet clothes will help more than a cup of hot..tea”
“Tea, tea. Have you never seen tea before?”
“I have never heard the word tea before. In my native language, we call this something else.” (Y/N) carelessly reveals, “Are you meant to drink it straight”
Tommy files away her first sentence away in his mind, making a mental note to find out where she was from before he leant across the table and pulled the teacup closer to him.
“You can if you want. Most add milk and sugar”
“How much-” (Y/N) asked, “How do you do yours?”
“Splash of milk, two teaspoons of sugar”
(Y/N) nods, “Okay, I’ll try it the way you like.”
Tommy nodded and did the tea for her. Never at all did he think that he would be making a cup of tea for a woman the second time he had ever met her but he supposed he did feel a little guilty for her falling into the cut and almost drowning.
(Y/N) took a sip and let a pleased hum, “This is...nice.”
“You like it?”
“Yes, I enjoy your...tea”
Tommy’s lip quirked at her words but the smile that nearly graces his lips quickly vanishes when Polly walks through the green doors,
“Thomas, have you-oh” Polly freezes in her steps at the sight of the stranger sitting at the table.
“Polly,” Tommy cleared his throat as he stood up, “This is (Y/N), the new barmaid at the Garrison”
(Y/N) stood up and shook the hand of Polly and tried not the feel exposed as the woman raked her eyes across her.
“Why are the two of you wet?”
“I fell into the cut and Tommy helped me” (Y/N) quickly spoke before Tommy could speak.
Polly looked at Tommy as if she couldn’t believe what (Y/N) was saying was true. (Y/N) finished off her cup of tea before he cleared her throat, catching their attention, “Thank you for the tea, Tommy but it’s probably best I get home. Staying in wet clothes will only make me sick”
Tommy nodded and seemed perfectly fine with just walking her to the door but Polly spoke up for him, “Tommy walk her home”
(Y/N) opened her mouth to argue but the look Tommy sent her told her that it was better to not argue.
They walked back to her flat in silence and it made (Y/N) realise how weird her day was. In what was meant to be a normal day exploring, ended up with her almost dying and then being treated with a cup of tea by a man whose mere presence prompted question marks.
 .•° ✿ °•.
That evening (Y/N) was back at the Garrison, pulling pints and serving customers. It was never not busy and (Y/N) wondered how she didn’t end up with a headache every night but she enjoyed the work.
When the pub quietened suddenly, it caused (Y/N) to look up from her work and she saw Tommy, Polly along with three other men who she had never seen before entering. Polly and the men entered the little snug whilst Tommy made his way up to the bar and with Harry overwhelmed, (Y/N) made her way over to him after she finished with her current customer.
“How may I help you, Mr Shelby?” She asked as she wiped her hands on her apron.
“Bucket of mild and four mugs and one whiskey”
(Y/N) nodded and went to go fulfil his order when Harry called out to her,
“We’re out of the mild! I’m gonna go get a new barrel.”
(Y/N) turned around and gave Tommy a sorry smile, “I’ll bring it to you when Harry’s done”
Tommy gave her a nod before he disappeared in the snug. (Y/N) watched him for a moment before she turned to the next patron with a kind smile.
.•° ✿ °•.
Tommy joined his family in the snug and sat in his usual seat, paying half attention to the conversation around until it suddenly turned to him.
“Oi, Tom, who’s the new barmaid?” John asked, “And where are our fucking drinks?”
“A new hire by Harry” Tommy said as he lit up a cigarette, “Needed a new barrel, it’ll be here soon.”
Just then (Y/N) walked into the snug, bucket and mugs in hand.
“Sorry for the wait,” She said as she placed them on the table and quickly disappeared back out of the snug.
Once she left, John and Arthur let out low whistles.
“She’s a looker ain’t she” John commented
Polly rolled her eyes at her nephew’s behaviour while Michael noticed something else about the woman.
“Where is she from? Her accent is not from England”
Tommy shrugged, “Haven’t a clue”
Polly raised an eyebrow, “You don’t know? Usually, you’d know everything about her, especially since she works at the pub”
Tommy ignored her for a moment as he began to scoop up a mug of ale, his brothers following suit before he answered her.
“There’s something she’s hiding and I don’t think any call I make will clue me into it”
.•° ✿ °•.
That night as (Y/N) and Harry closed up, (Y/N) finally asked Harry about something that had been itching her about Tommy Shelby.
“Harry, when you warned me about Mr Shelby, what did you mean? What do the Shelby’s do?”
Harry sighed as he dropped his rag down on the bar, “They’re bad men. They’re a gang, they fix races, kill people, blackmail, threaten, you know all of it. If they want it, they get it.”
(Y/N) settled in silence at his words, her mind racing. Did she just escape from the gang at home just to run into a new gang? Was her luck that shitty?
She remained silent for the rest of the night but vowed that she’d try her best to avoid Tommy Shelby.
.•° ✿ °•.
Avoiding Tommy was easier said than done, he was somehow everywhere yet at the same time it was like he was a ghost. Whenever she saw him on the streets of Small Heath, she ducked into the many side streets and alleyways of the town. Whenever he entered the Garrison, she took his order swiftly and avoided eye contact.
Tommy had noticed her behaviour.
A few weeks later he found her once again by the cut but this time she was sitting on the edge with her feet hanging over the edge. Tommy walked over to her but didn’t sit down next to her.
“You’ve been hiding from me”
(Y/N) didn’t even look up at him when she replied, “Have I? It seems that you’ve found me”
“Why?”
“Why do you care?”
Tommy hummed, “I suppose I don’t. Not really.”
“But you do though, don’t you? You care”
“I do”
“Why?”
“You fascinate me.”
“...I’ve heard about the things you do Tommy.” (Y/N) decided to tell him why she had been avoiding him.
“Yeah?” Tommy asked as he took a seat next to her, knowing that this wasn’t going to be a short conversation.
“I do...I do not understand why”
“Growing up around here you have to know how to fight otherwise you won't survive. You have to adapt and grow. Fixing races or scamming the rich to get some money was the only way that we were able to feed our family at times.” Tommy offered her a cigarette which she accepted. “After the war, whilst we were at war, fighting for our lives and country, the men at the top simply sat at home and continued getting richer.”
(Y/N) had a frown on her face as she took a couple of drags of her cigarette, “But you murder people?”
“I’ve killed a few people”
“And that doesn’t affect you?”
“In the war, I killed about a hundred men who were just following orders like me. I used to beat myself up about taking a life but now, killing the people who profited off the war in some fashion barely gets me to blink”
“...So you only target the rich?”
Tommy nods, “You ask anyone and they’d probably say that we’re a pain in the arse but we’re their pain in the arse. We pump the money back through the town, making sure everyone has jobs and that they can support their families”
(Y/N)’s heart eased at his clarification.
“My fa-” (Y/N) cut herself off realising that she was about to spill too much information about herself, “Back home, the gangs there targeted everybody. The poorer people suffered the most since they couldn’t pay ransoms or blackmail...every week a body would be discovered. Politicians and the most powerful men in the country were being controlled by these gangs, being played like marionettes. Not to mention the constant wars between rival gangs…”
(Y/N) hadn’t spoken about how life was back home and it felt good to finally speak to someone about it. She knew she had it good considering she rarely left the family manor and had anything and everything she could have asked for and nothing that her family did had negatively affected her in any way.
“Is that why you left your country?”
(Y/N) nodded, “I was scared that I left one gang and fell into the grasp of another”
Tommy took one last drag of his cigarette before he chucked it in the cut and (Y/N) followed suit.
Tommy took her chin in his hands and pulled her face so that she was facing him, “You won’t be hurt here. You’re safe”
(Y/N)’s placed her hand over his that was still on her face but she didn’t try to remove it, “I’m am not safe, they will find me”
“Who will?”
(Y/N) gave him a soft smile as she finally pulled his hand away, “Never you mind. I’ve already said too much”
(Y/N) stood up and brushed off the dust and dirt from her before she offered him her hand, “Walk me to work?”
Tommy grabbed her hand and pulled himself up, “Of course”
The walk back was silent but (Y/N) felt at ease now that she knew the truth behind Tommy and the gang’s motives.
.•° ✿ °•.
(Y/N) no longer hid whenever she saw Tommy in the streets but instead gave him smiles. He wouldn’t always return them but (Y/N) felt a warmth bloom in her chest whenever he gave her a nod or a tiny smile in answer.
One day, in the early afternoon, Tommy and his brother, Arthur had entered the Garrison, so she went over to take their order.
“What can I get you two?”
“Go get Harry for us”
(Y/N) got Harry and moved further down the bar but still close enough to listen to their conversation.
“What can I get you, boys?”
“Harry,” Tommy gave him a smile that wasn’t sincere in the slightest, “We want to buy your pub”
(Y/N)’s mouth dropped and so did Harry’s.
“Uhhh, it’s not for sale I’m afraid”
“It wasn’t a request, Harry.”
Harry instantly deflated as he knew he couldn’t exactly say no to the Peaky Blinders unless he wanted his eyes cut.
“Alri-”
“You can’t just do that!” (Y/N) stepped in, throwing Tommy a glare, “Harry said it wasn’t for sale, that’s your answer and you should accept it”
“Harry was just about to agree-”
“Through coercion” Once again, (Y/N) cut in.
Harry’s eyes were wide as he tugged on (Y/N)’s arm, telling her to stop but she didn’t listen.
“I didn’t make any threats. Did you hear me make a threat, Arthur?”
“Nah, I didn’t hear you make any threats brother” Arthur backed his brother up
“The implication was there. ‘Do as I ask or get your eyes cut’.”
Harry pulled on her arm again but (Y/N) shrugged him off.
Tommy sighed, he patience wearing thin, “Listen, we’re just offering a considerable amount to buy the pub, nothing more”
“Since you have so much money, build a bloody pub yourselves, or better yet shove it up your-”
Harry finally pulled her hard enough that she had to move unless she wanted to fall flat on her face,
“(Y/N) go in the back. I’ll deal with it.” Harry pushed her away, “Go”
(Y/N) threw one last glare over her shoulder before she disappeared in the back. She paced around in Harry’s office waiting for him, she knew that he’d more than likely accept the Shelby’s offer but a part of her hoped that he didn’t.
When he returned there was a roll of money in his hand which caused (Y/N) to release a frustrated sigh.
“I don’t want to end up in the cut” Harry tried to explain
“I know, I know. I’m not blaming you, I’m just annoyed at those Shelby men.”
“Listen, I know your stubborn but don’t go creating fights with those men”
“I can’t promise you anything” (Y/N) walked towards the exit, “I’ll go back to the bar”
(Y/N) was in such a bad mood for the rest of the day that the patrons simply made an order and then quickly scurry off once they got their drink, not wanting to be on the receiving end of her if they’d pushed her.
She was still in a mood once she had finished for the day and stormed home but once she collapsed on her bed, she felt a bit of tension drain out of her shoulders.
Despite how much she wanted to stay in bed, she knew couldn’t do it with the day's clothing still on her. She kicked her shoes off in the corner of her flat and chucked her coat on the small couch before pouring herself a glass of whiskey.
She sipped on the whiskey as she wiped down her face with a damp cloth and changed into her nightdress before taking a seat near the window with the rest of her drink, the bottle next to her on the side table. Usually, she read a bit before she slept but it was raining that night and the sound of it hitting the window always calmed her, so she simply looked out of the window, watching the last few stragglers of Small Heath wander through the streets.
She had been at peace before loud knocking disrupted her and she huffed as she made her way over to her door, only opening it enough to fit her head through.
“What do you want?” Tommy was on the other side.
“I’m here to talk”
“It’s late. We’ll talk tomorrow.”
“I want to talk now” Tommy pushed the door open and forced himself into her flat.
“Thomas! You can’t just force yourself into my flat” (Y/N) hissed at him as she closed the door behind him knowing she wouldn’t be able to physically remove him at this point.
Tommy looked around the flat checking it out as she took off his coat and hat, throwing next to where (Y/N) left hers.
“Nice little place you got here”
“Why are you really here Tommy?”
Tommy turned around and raised an eyebrow when he saw what she was wearing causing (Y/N) to wrap her arms around her chest as she hurried to her dressing gown and putting it on.
“What do you want?” (Y/N) repeated herself, “If this is about earlier, then I refuse to speak about it”
“It is about today and you will speak about it”
“Well if you truly want to speak then let it be known that, I will not sit around and let you bully people into doing what you want”
“That’s how it works around here”
“That’s how you force it to work around here. People would rather say yes than end up blind or floating in the cut” (Y/N) corrected him.
She took a deep breath before she topped off her drink and offered him one, “Whiskey?”
“Please”
She gave him a glass before shifting the coats that rested on the couch onto the coat rack and then taking a seat on the now free couch and Tommy soon joined her.
“You say you’re not like the people back home but your actions today say different” (Y/N) took a sip of her drink, “You keep going down this lane and you’ll be like my….”
Tommy turned to her, “Like your who?”
“Never mind.” (Y/N) shook her head, “You’ve never been told ‘no’ in your life have you?”
“I have. Polly tells me about five times every day”
“I don’t mean by your family. You’ve never been told by a woman or by anyone in Small Heath like Harry, have you?”
Tommy shrugged his shoulders, “No, I don’t think so”
“Luckily for you, I’m here to humble you”
“Luckily?”
“Luckily.”
Tommy placed his hand on her thigh which caused her to raise an eyebrow at him but she didn’t say nor do anything.
“I know nothing about you,” Tommy told her
“I could say the same thing about you”
“You know things about me. You know my family and my past.”
(Y/N) snorted, “That’s a bit of a stretch. I know that you fought in the war, that’s it”
“That’s more than I know about you.”
“Okay” (Y/N) holds up two fingers, “You get to know one thing about my past and one about my family”
Tommy sipped his drink as he thought about which questions he would ask her.
“How many siblings do you have?”
“Four older brothers”
“You’re alike our Ada”
(Y/N) had never met the Shelby lady but judging by the little bits she heard from the brothers, it seemed like she, other than their aunt, was one of the only people who could tell Tommy to ‘shut up’ or ‘fuck off’ without consequence.
“In more ways than you may realise”
“Where are you from?”
“Ah!” (Y/N) held up her hand, “I won’t answer that”
“Why not?” Tommy fiddled with the edge of her dressing gown, his hand shifting higher up her thigh
“Because I said so, now, new question”
“How was your life back home?”
“Easy. I never had to worry about if there would be food on the table at the end of the day but I was restricted.”
“How?”
“I was not allowed to leave my house nor have friends, my life was lonely.”
“Was you sick as a child?”
“No. I was a vulnerability” (Y/N) downed the rest of her drink before turning to Tommy, “I’ve said too much. That was more than one thing you pulled from me”
“I’ll make it up”
“I hope so”
(Y/N) bit her lip as she thought something through as the flat dissolved into silence.
“Are you going to sleep with me or are you going to continue to play with my dressing gown?”
“Are you going to say no?”
“I won’t be tonight”
“Good”
With that, Tommy swooped down and pulled her into a kiss, one that she eagerly returned. They kissed until they pulled apart needing air and Tommy pulled her onto his lap,
“You sure?”
“Yes”
(Y/N) pulled him into another kiss as Tommy lifted her into his arms as he pushed himself onto his feet and made his way over to her bed where he promptly dropped her though he quickly followed suit.
.•° ✿ °•.
(Y/N) mindlessly trailed her fingers across Tommy’s ribs as they laid together underneath her blanket. Tommy was sat up against the headboard as he smoked a cigarette while (Y/N) was curled into his side.
“Next week, I’ll take you down to London,” Tommy announced, breaking the silence.
(Y/N) snorted, “Are you asking me out on a date?”
“I don’t do dates.”
“Hmm, I suppose you don’t have to wine and dine them. Somehow your charm does the work”
“‘Somehow’?”
“You’re a miserable bastard Tommy” (Y/N) looked up at him and gave him a smirk
“Next week then?” Tommy ignored her jab
“Yeah, I’ll talk to Harry and get a day off”
“You don’t have to ask Harry. We own the bloody pub, take as many days off you want”
“You may own it but I do not work for you, I work for Harry” (Y/N) looked up and glared at Tommy, before rolling to the other side of the bed and wrapping the blankets around her shoulder, “Anyway, I’m going to sleep now. Stay or leave, I don’t mind.”
Not realising how tired she was, (Y/N) almost immediately fell asleep and Tommy stared at her sleep form.
He was enamoured with her, her mysterious life aside, he looked forward to every time they would meet and he enjoyed her fiery attitude towards him but he was confused as to what he wanted their relationship to be like. He didn’t date but he wanted something more than a purely sexual dynamic but he didn’t know what she wanted either. He could speak to her but that was outside of his comfort zone.
Tommy did not leave but he did not sleep, he continued to sit and smoke through the rest of his pack as he watched the sky turn light and the sun rose before he finally left.
.•° ✿ °•.
The next week, Tommy had picked (Y/N) up and together they drove down to London. She had dressed up a bit but nothing in something that would be overdoing it but she had noticed Tommy run his eyes over her appreciatively, something that she enjoyed.
“You know, I’ve never been to London” (Y/N) said as she watched the scenery go.
“Never?”
“No. When I arrived in the country, I came straight to Birmingham on a train and that was that”
“Well, I hope you enjoy it”
(Y/N) smiled at him, “Me too”
(Y/N) filled the rest of the journey with questions, not just about London but about Birmingham and Small Heath as well.
When they arrived in London, (Y/N) got swept up in all of it. She enjoyed the bright lights and people filled the street. It was unlike anything she’s ever experienced and she loved it.
Tommy took her to go see a play, and as she watched the actors perform, (Y/N) thought she should make a list of things that Tommy was introducing her to because she was quickly running out of fingers to count on.
After dinner, Tommy took her to a bridge that crossed the River Thames and they talked as they looked over the barrier, like they did by the cut in Small Heath.
“Tonight was great, thank you, Tommy”
Tommy took a step closer to her and took her hand in his, “Look, I don’t know what the future entails or what I exactly want between us but I do want you next to me”
“I’ve never heard of that position before” (Y/N) curled her fingers around his, “I’m not your partner, your fiance, your wife but…”
“You are my person”
“...Your person”
As Tommy leant forward to kiss her, (Y/N) suddenly snapped back, her head swivelling around.
“Hey, what’s wrong?”
(Y/N) threw one last look over her shoulder before turning to him with a smile that he was starting to recognise as one she used as a distraction and a cover-up. It worked on him before and he has seen it being used against various members of Small Heath, who, once seeing that smile, had followed her conversation change though (Y/N) also had no problem using her sharp tongue if anyone crossed any lines.
.•° ✿ °•.
Just as Tommy leant down towards her, (Y/N) heard people speaking the language of her home country causing her to pull away from him. She strained to hear what was being said but the voices were quickly drowned by the chatter of over people on the bridge along with the cars that sped around them.
She looked around trying to see if she recognised anyone but yet again, the bridge was so busy, it was impossible for her. (Y/N) mentally cursed at herself, she was foolish to let her barriers remain down whilst they were in London, as it was more likely her father had men there and if she had been spotted, she wouldn’t know until it was too late.
When Tommy called for her attention she turned to him with a smile after one last look over her shoulder. While she couldn’t see anyone, she would be on edge for a while.
“So, did you book a hotel room or are we driving back tonight?”
Tommy stood back and offered her his arm, “To the hotel it is”
.•° ✿ °•.
A month after the trip to London, (Y/N) and Tommy were going steady, if that was an appropriate word for their dynamic. They saw each other on a regular business but he hadn’t taken her on a date anywhere as extravagant as the one to London but (Y/N) enjoyed the nights in her flat where they would just drink and talk.
She was less on edge now she was back in Small Heath and nothing had happened to her but she remained vigilant but her new life relatively undisturbed changed that evening.
She had been working at the pub as usual when she felt eyes on her, it was unusual that when a patron got drunk that they would stare at her but they would usually look away once a prostitute or a friend got their attention but this man was different.
She took quick glances at him as she worked and not once did this man's gaze falter, he had been nursing the same drink he had first ordered and his eyes were clear of any drunkness. (Y/N) knew something was up with him.
Not wanting to be defenceless, (Y/N) went out to the back of the pub and picked up one of the loose bricks that were laying around and put it in her handbag before she returned to the bar, hoping that the man assumed she only took a toilet break.
Once her shift ended, (Y/N) left Harry to close up and started her way home. The man had left with the other patrons when the pub was closed but (Y/N) knew the man was waiting in the shadows for her.
As she walked back to her flat, she heard his footsteps behind her and her heart raced. If her plan went wrong then she would either be brought back home or dead and out of two, she preferred death.
She sped up and turned into the upcoming alleyway as she took her handbag off of her shoulders and grasped it tightly in her hands and when the man turned into the alleyway, she swung her bag at his head and watched as it successfully connected, causing the man to collapse at her feet.
She paused waiting to see if he stirred but the man was knocked out. (Y/N) dropped to her knees before she searched the body, looking for a gun or any sort of weapon but when she heard hurried footsteps heading her way she froze before she pulled the brick out of her purse and held it aloft, ready to throw it whoever to turned the corner, fearing that the man had an accomplice that she didn’t see.
.•° ✿ °•.
On his way home from his office, Tommy had spotted (Y/N) on her way home from work but just as he was about to call her name and get her attention, he noticed the man following her.
He snapped his mouth shut but silently followed after the man but when he and (Y/N) disappeared in an alleyway, he ran after them, pulling his gun out of his holster as he did so.
He rounded into the alleyway, gun drawn and ready to shoot but froze at the scene he ran into. The man who had been following (Y/N) was unconscious on the floor and (Y/N) was crouched over him, brick in hand ready to throw.
Tommy let his arm drop to his side, “What the fuck is going on?”
(Y/N) who sighed in relief at the sight of him, threw the brick to the side and continued to search through his pockets like she was doing before Tommy interrupted.
“You have a place where we can drag him, yes?” (Y/N) asked as he pulled out a gun from one of his pockets
“(Y/N)! What the fuck is happening?”
“Yes or no, Thomas!” (Y/N) snapped, “I will tell you but only if you fucking help me”
Tommy tucked his gun back in his holster before he made his way over to the man and hooked his arms underneath his armpits and began dragging him towards one of the many empty buildings in Small Heath.
“Follow me”
(Y/N) quickly snatched up her purse and followed after him but she was constantly checking over her shoulder to see if anyone was following them but once they arrived at the building, most of the tension dropped out of her shoulders.
Once Tommy dropped the man in the middle of the room he turned on his heel and pointed a finger at her, “Right, tell me what the fuck is happening.”
(Y/N) tugged off her scarf and went over to the man and began tying his ankles together,
“You know I haven’t told you anything about my past” (Y/N) grunted as she pulled the knots tight, “Give me your tie”
“You’ve told me a little,” Tommy said as he tugged off his tie before he gave it to her.
As (Y/N) began tying his wrists together, she began to tell Tommy about her life.
“What I told about how gangs run the country wasn’t a lie. Life there is hell for the common people, death is better than living there. But…”
“You left out something…”
(Y/N) sighed as she turned to Tommy, “My family is the biggest criminal organisation in the country. They have politicians and royalty in their pockets. Honestly? It makes your little gang here seem like a joke in comparison”
“...So you ran away from home?”
(Y/N) glared at him, “It was not that simple.”
“Then explain it to me then”
(Y/N) made her way over to him and took a seat on the floor, “I couldn’t get anyone to help me because if we got caught they’d be killed and I couldn’t have that on my conscience. Also, they’re a liability. I had to steal some money and other items from my family so that I could sell them and I had only planned as far as getting out of my country. Everything after that was a spur of the moment decision.”
“Your life was good, why run?”
“It wasn’t ‘good’, it was easy. Besides I was the only daughter and my father would sell me to the highest bidder or to whoever he had been beefing with as a gift”
“Your brothers have no issue with that?”
“They’re men, so they’re more valuable” (Y/N) rolled her eyes and put quotation marks around the word valuable, “They’re all just like my father.”
“Your mother”
“A weak woman. Sold to my dad like how my dad would sell me off. Are you going to ask me about my uncles next?”
This time Tommy rolled his eyes but he took a seat next to her, “So, who is this man?”
“No clue” (Y/N) shrugged, “I’m guessing one of my father’s men or you know, one of the men of my father’s men”
“What do you plan on doing with him?” Tommy asked as he pulled out a couple of cigarettes and lit them, giving on to (Y/N), which she gratefully accepted.
“It depends on what information he knows and what he has shared, but I’ll probably have to kill him”
“Have you ever killed someone before?”
“Nope” (Y/N) sent Tommy a grin, “But you have”
.•° ✿ °•.
The man awoke with a sputtered cough before squirmed on the floor, trying to get up until he realised he had been tied up. He rolled on to his back and craned his head so that he was looking at Tommy and (Y/N)
“Release me!”
(Y/N) stood up and crushed her cigarette underneath her shoe before walking over to the man and stood over him.
“I have questions first”
“Fuck you!” The man cursed the language of (Y/N)’s home country.
“Ah!” (Y/N) grinned, “You speak the language, so I’m guessing my father sent you”
“I’m not the only one he sent” The man spat, “There’s about a hundred in England looking for you. Hundred in America and Australia too. No matter where you go, we’ll find you”
“Of course. I know that but I’m not particularly concerned about that, I’m more curious about you.”
“Me?”
(Y/N) nods, “You.”
Tommy watched the interaction with interest. He had no clue what they were saying but he assumed that (Y/N) was pressing the man for information and truthfully speaking, he found it kind of hot.
“It was my father who sent you, correct?”
The man nodded, “Whoever finds you and brings you back gets a seat on his council and your hand in marriage”
(Y/N) scoffed and rolled her eyes and then turned to Tommy, “My father is offering a seat on his council and my hand in marriage to whoever finds me and brings me to him. Interested?”
Tommy snorted, “Does the marriage come with a nice house in your country?”
“Hmm, I’d have to ask”
“Does the marriage come with a nice house?”
This time the man actually spat at her causing her to flinch back and wiped her face with her sleeve with a grimace.
“Okay, enough joking around. How did you find me?”
“London! A bunch of us were stationed there but I’m the only one who spotted you” The man had switched to English.
“Did you tell anyone that you were coming here to get me?”
“No. If I did, I would already be dead.” The man shook his head, “You don’t get a joint prize if you join up with someone.”
“So no one knows you’re here?”
“No”
“...Good”
(Y/N) turned away from the man and walked back to Tommy, “I need a favour”
Tommy raised a knowing brow, “What do I get in return?”
“My undying gratitude?”
“Okay,” Tommy nods, “What’s your plan?”
“Luckily, he hasn’t told anyone about Small Heath but if we let him go, he could tell anyone.”
“So we kill him.”
“...We do”
The man started to scream in protest at their words, moving about erratically, trying his hardest to escape from his restraints.
“Shut up!” (Y/N) shouted at the man
“I’ll get Uncle Charlie to sail down to London and dump his body there, we don't need any unnecessary attention.”
“Your Uncle Charlie would be okay with that?” (Y/N) found that hard to believe.
“No, but he’ll do it anyway.”
“So,” (Y/N) sighed, “How do we get him you wherever your Uncle Charlie is?”
“Knock him out I suppose”
“...I left my brick in the alleyway”
That caused Tommy to snigger. Their current situation wasn’t a laughable one but somehow (Y/N) had managed to make him laugh. He pushed himself up to his feet and pulled his gun out from his holster and made his way over to the frantic man.
He climbed on to the man, legs on either side of his body and then gripped the gun by its barrel before he raised his hand up and struck down with strength, hitting the man with the butt of his gun and rendering him unconscious.
The man became limp and Tommy climbed off and tucked his gun away, “That should do it”
“Alright”
Tommy hooked his arms underneath the man’s like before and started to drag him out of the building with (Y/N) leading the way to Charlie’s yard. Once they arrived, Tommy dragged the man to the edge of the dock.
“Charlie!” Tommy shouted into the night, “Uncle Charlie!”
Moments later an older man hobbled out into the yard, “Jesus Christ, Tom. The sun hasn’t even fully risen yet”
Realising how much time had passed, (Y/N) looked up at the sky and saw the sun just starting to rise and suddenly, all at once, a wave of tiredness waved over her and she was exhausted.
“I need a favour”
“What now?” Charlie grumbled
“I need him dumped in London.” Tommy kicked at the man at his feet
Charlie looked down at the body with what could almost be described as negative interest, “He’s dead then is he?”
“Just knocked out.”
“I’m not going to kill him” Charlie protested, “It’ll take four days to get London anyhow and I won’t have a dead rotting body as I go down”
Tommy was silent as he thought about what to do,
“I’ll go down but I’ll take Curly.”
Charlie nodded, “Alright, I’ll go get him.”
When he left, (Y/N) tugged Tommy to the side and placed her hands on his chest, looking up at him, “You don’t have to do this you know? This is too much for me to ask”
“Hey” Tommy took her chin in his fingers, “Don’t worry, I want to do this.”
“...Thank you” (Y/N) gripped his coat, “Come back to me”
Tommy pressed a soft kiss to her lips, “I will”
.•° ✿ °•.
(Y/N) was on edge for the rest of the week, constantly looking over her shoulder for any suspicious men along with walking around Tommy’s office and Watery Lane for any sight of the man but she didn’t see the man until just over a week since the last time she saw him.
It was late at night when she heard a knock on the door and she scrambled to open it, knowing that it could only possibly be Tommy.
When she opened the door, she threw herself into his arms, arms tight around his neck, “You’re okay”
“Did you think I died?”
“Something like that, now come in”
As Tommy settled himself on her couch, (Y/N) makes them with a drink before she joined him,
“How did everything go?”
“Quick, easy, no need for concern”
“H-How did you do it?”
“Stuffed him full of alcohol and then pushed him overboard” Tommy filled her in
“Smart, if they find him then they’ll just assume he drunk too much and accidentally fell off a bridge or something”
“...Are you safe now?”
(Y/N) gave him a small smile, “For now. They’ll realise he’s been missing or dead soon enough and there still will be a group of people after me but for now, I am safe.”
Tommy’s hand slipped into hers, “I’ll protect you”
“You don’t need to”
“I want to”
.•° ✿ °•.
Months passed without any sort of drama from her end though the same could not be said for Tommy. He had been getting involved in all sorts of business and trouble, something that his Aunt Polly deeply disapproved with but Tommy did what Tommy did, which was whatever he wanted.
That morning, Tommy had gone to the funeral of his brother-in-law along with the rest of his family, leaving (Y/N) alone in Small Heath for the day. Tasked with setting up the pub that morning, (Y/N) made her way to the pub but the sight of two women in black pushing baby prams had stopped her in her steps and she watched as they left them by the doors before running away.
Concerned, she made her way towards the prams but before she could get too close, she was thrown back by the blast of the explosion. Her body hit the cobblestone street with a harsh whack, leaving her dazed.
Once the ringing in her ears had faded and she could open her eyes without immediately wanting to throw up, (Y/N) pushed herself up so that she was sitting up straight and watched as the Garrison burned and tears of heartbreak mixed with her tears of pain.
Soon the streets were filled with policemen and firefighters as they worked together to put out the fire and clear up the area and she watched them as she held a handkerchief that Moss gave her, to the cut on her cheek. Her heart hurt as she looked at what remained of the Garrison, the pub had meant a lot to her and seeing it being reduced to nothing stung, (Y/N) returned back to her flat, unable to take anymore.
Not long after, two cars pulled up the Garrison and the Shelby’s spilt out, Tommy and Polly leading them.
“It happened at, uh, exactly 7 a.m. Only one person saw anything. Our patrols were not in the area.” Moss informed them.
“Who saw it?” Polly asked as she looked at the building.
Moss looked at his notepad, “One of the barmaids, (Y/N). She was also caught up in the blast”
Tommy spun on his heel at the mention of (Y/N)’s name and stalked over to Moss, “What happened to her?”
Moss looked over his shoulder, “She was over there but I guess she must have gone home”
Tommy strode away from the Garrison, ignoring the shouts from Polly as he made his way towards (Y/N)’s flat. He knocked on her door before he walked in, knowing that she rarely locks it during the day.
He found her wrapped in her blankets on her bed, staring mindlessly through her window. Tommy sat on the edge of the bed and placed a hand on her leg,
“You alright?”
(Y/N) let out a wet laugh, “Not really”
“Moss said you got hurt”
“Hmm, the blast flung me back but I’ll be fine. My body will ache and I’ll have a killer headache for a few days but I’ll be fine”
“Look at me”
(Y/N) turned to face him, slightly crawling out of her blanket cocoon and Tommy took her face in his hands, his thumb tracing just underneath her cut.
“What happened?”
“There were two women, in black and they were pushing prams and just left them by the door. I went over but they exploded before I could get too close”
“Did your upbringing not teach you to not go looking at things that are suspicious?” Tommy chided
“I thought there were actual kids in the prams and they had been abandoned”
Tommy didn’t say anything but a look of understanding overcame his face, “I guess that makes sense”
“Not one thing made sense about this place since I arrived. Not one”
“I’ll give you that” Tommy agreed with her
“What’s your plan with the Garrison then?”
“Fix it up.” Tommy sighed as he stood up, knowing that he couldn’t stay with her for any longer “I’ll give you some money until you’re able to get back to work”
(Y/N) smiled at him, “Thank you. You going?”
Tommy nodded at her, “Got business.”
He gave her a kiss on the cheek before he left and it wasn’t until he was halfway to his location, did he realise that he’s never done something like that before.
 .•° ✿ °•.
The reopening night of the Garrison was a big one and when stepped through the doors, she noted the stark differences with a frown tugging at her lips. The walls were gold and the curtains were red, the chandeliers were grand but it wasn’t the Garrison.
She gave pleasant smiles to those she came across as she made her way towards the back of the bar, the place where she felt the most comfortable. Arthur was also there and she could tell he was on something due to his erratic behaviour but she didn’t mention it to him, only giving him a wave as she wrapped the apron around her waist.
She was quickly swept up with taking orders and making drinks that she didn’t realise that Tommy had reached her until he placed his hand on her hip,
“What do you think aye?” He tried to speak over the loud music
(Y/N) stepped to the side to somewhere slightly quieter and pulled Tommy with her, “It’s certainly something”
Tommy frowned at her, “You don’t like it?”
(Y/N) sighed before she dragged Tommy to a room at the back so they could have complete privacy, “I don’t hate it and obviously I’m very happy to be back at work but the Garrison looks like it belongs in London rather than Small Heath”
“We’re moving up”
“You are but not everyone else in Small Heath is. Obviously, it’s too late to do anything about it now but in the future, remember you’re in Small Heath and not in London.”
Tommy moved so that there were only mere centimetres between them, “Sometimes, I forget who’s the one who grew up here and who’s the one who arrived a year ago between us”
(Y/N) grinned at him, “What can I say, the town of Small Heath is special to me”
“Want to get out of here?” Tommy asked with a raised brow
“I’m sure Arthur can handle the bar by himself” (Y/N) said as she reached for his hand, allowing him to pull her out of the pub.
.•° ✿ °•.
It wasn’t until a month after the reopening of the pub did (Y/N) realise what her fooling around with Tommy had resulted in. After she had connected the dots herself, she had made her way to Watery Lane to find the person who could confirm it for her along with giving her some solid advice.
She made her way into the house of Watery Lane first rather than entering the betting den, hoping that Polly was there instead of her office.
Tommy had told her about the betting den and his illegal business not long after the incident with the man who had followed her and she did not judge, as it would be hypocritical if she did but she understood the reasoning behind what he did for a living but she still hadn’t visited the actual den itself.
Luckily for her, Polly was in the kitchen of the house and (Y/N) slipped into the seat opposite her,
“I need your...expertise”
Polly put down her cup of tea and looked her up and down before she reached out and placed her hand on (Y/N)’s stomach before moving up to her breast, “You’re pregnant, I’d say two, maybe three months”
(Y/N) sunk back in her chair and released a huff, she didn’t know what to do.
“I’m guessing it’s Tommy's,” Polly said as she made them both a cup of tea.
“Who else's would it be?” (Y/N) scoffed.
“Do you want to keep it?” Polly asks as she sets down the two teacups on the table.
“Hmm, I think I do but I’ll have to talk to Tommy. If he doesn’t want anything to do with it, I’ll guess I’ll have to leave Small Heath,”
“Listen, I don’t know the in’s and out’s of whatever you have going on between you two but I do know my nephew. He cares about you deeply and he’s not the type of man to abandon his child.”
“Do you know where he is?”
“Last I heard, Charlie’s Yard”
(Y/N) stands up with a nod, “Alright, thank you”
As she made her way to Charlie’s Yard, (Y/N) thought of how she could tell Tommy the news. There was no point dragging it out and Tommy was someone who liked to get straight to the information but she was nervous either way.
She pushed open the gates and made her way to where Charlie and Curly were, “Hello Charlie, Curly.”
Curly stuttered out a greeting and Charlie nodded at her.
“Is Tommy around? I’d heard he was here”
“You just missed him, he went to the Garrison” Charlie informed her.
(Y/N) nodded in thanks and quickly scurried away before she could hear the second sentence.
“But he’s with a woman…” Charlie finished as he watched (Y/N) run away.
(Y/N) hurried to the Garrison, annoyed that she had to run around Small Heath just to find one man and it didn’t help that the news she was carrying was heavy. Finally arriving, she called out his name as she pushed open the door,
“Tommy?! You better be here otherwise-oh” (Y/N) paused at the sight of Tommy with a woman at the bar.
“I thought you weren’t working today?”
“I’m not, I wanted to speak to you and was told I’d find you here but you’re obviously busy, so I’ll leave you alone”
Tommy nodded in understanding and just as (Y/N) was turning to leave the other woman stood forward and offered her hand,
“I’m May. May Carleton.”
(Y/N) glanced over to Tommy, taken off guard but he continued drinking his drink so (Y/N) shook May’s hand, “(Y/N). Nice to meet you”
“Just (Y/N)? No last name?”
“I don’t have one.” (Y/N) gave May one last polite smile before she left.
May stared after her for a few more moments before she turned to Tommy, “She’s not serious right? What is her last name?”
Tommy gave may a shrug, “If she has one, she hasn’t told me”
.•° ✿ °•.
“Right, what’s wrong?” Tommy asked as he stepped into her flat later that evening.
“Uhm okay, I’m just going to get it right out”
Tommy watched as she paced in front of him, whatever she had to tell him was clearly weighing heavily on her mind and he didn’t push her over getting it over and done with.
“Tommy,...I’m pregnant”
Tommy stared at her in shock. Out of all the things he guessed she would tell him, that wasn’t one of them.
“I know this isn’t what we planned or anything and I’ll completely understand if you don’t want anything to do with it but I want to keep it” (Y/N) rushed out in one breath.
“(Y/N), I don’t want you to get rid of it and I want to be involved” Tommy pulled (Y/N) into his embrace, “We’ll raise this child together. You and me.”
(Y/N) looked up at him with tears in her eyes, “Really?”
“Really. We’ll do it.”
(Y/N) wrapped her arms around Tommy tighters and cried into his shoulder and he let her, rubbing his hand up and down her back in hopes it comforted her.
“I was so scared”
“I know. It’s okay.”
They were wrapped up in each other’s embrace for a while before Tommy moved them over to the couch,
“Have you been to the doctor?” Tommy asked
“I went to Polly. Practically the same thing”
Tommy agreed, there were moments where he trusted Polly’s opinion and help over a doctors.
“What did she say?”
“Two months, maybe three”
“I know you went to Polly but I want you to go to the doctor, just to make sure”
(Y/N) nods in agreement, “I will.”
.•° ✿ °•.
One day, almost two months after (Y/N) found out she was pregnant, Tommy picked her up from her flat and took her for a drive. He wouldn’t tell her where they were going but he reassured her that she would like it.
Recently, they were at odds with each other with Tommy wanting (Y/N) to stop working entirely and (Y/N) being totally against it, so she assumed that perhaps he was trying to butter her up.
“You’re not trying to do something so that I’ll forgive you?” (Y/N) asked him.
“No, you can still be as mad as you want, I’m not going to stop you.”
“So the surprise had nothing to do with it?”
“Nope,” Tommy said as he pulled a tie out of his pocket and gave it to her, “Wrap it around your eyes”
(Y/N) did so without arguing and a minute later they pulled up to a stop and Tommy went over to the passenger side of the car to help her out. He kept his grip on her arm as he leads her forward before they stopped.
“You ready?”
(Y/N) nodded, “Yes”
“You can take off the tie”
(Y/N) gasped at what she stood in front of. It was a house, though that was being generous, it was massive and as (Y/N) looked around her in shock, she also realised that they were surrounded by copious amounts of land.
“What’s this?”
“This” Tommy walked towards her, “Is our house”
“Ours? All of it?”
Tommy grinned at her, “All it and all of this land as well. There’s also a stable round back”
“You had to make it worth your while as well, huh?” (Y/N) teased him
“Want to look inside?”
“Can we?”
Tommy offered his arm and (Y/N) took it and allowed him to lead her inside.
The interior was just as grand as the exterior and (Y/N) had fallen love with the place, it was perfect for them, yet also brought back some memories.
“You know, this reminds me of my house back home. It was bigger since it had to satisfy my father’s ego but it never felt like home, not like the way my flat does.”
“This will be different, this will be a home where our child will grow up and they won’t grow up as we did”
(Y/N) nodded reassured.
“I know you want to work for as long as you can and I know I can’t stop you but when you’re ready you can move in here”
(Y/N) was grateful that Tommy gave her space and he understood her because she knew she would go crazy just staying at the house and doing nothing whilst she was still pregnant. When the baby arrived, it would be a different story.
.•° ✿ °•.
When (Y/N) could no longer bend down to collect glasses due to her bump, she knew she had to throw in the towel and stop working. Harry had her working on the books for the most part while she occasionally did bar work but she had reached her limit with her feet swollen and her back constantly aching.
Truthfully the reason why she was having such a difficult time leaving her job was that she did not know when she would be able to return. She enjoyed working at the Garrison and interacting with the locals but once she had the child she would have to put that on pause as she raised her child. She could have a nanny but that was how she was raised and she did not like that.
She made her into Tommy’s office, pausing by Lizzie’s desk to see if he was free before entering. He didn’t look up from his papers when she entered but he did give her a greeting which she returned as she took a seat.
“I’ve decided to hang up my apron” She announces to him.
This makes Tommy look up, “Yeah?”
“I can’t reach the glasses, my ankles are swollen and I have a constant need to go toilet” (Y/N) complained, “If I knew how terrorising pregnancy would be, I wouldn’t have gotten pregnant”
“Want me to call you a driver?”
“Please, I need a nap” Their bed was calling to (Y/N)
Tommy reached for the phone on his desk and called for a driver for her and as (Y/N) watched him, she realised how domesticated it was. Though in many ways, they were too, they lived together, shared a bed and (Y/N) was pregnant with their child but they weren’t in any sort of official relationship of any kind. She would have thought that Tommy would have suggested that they got married for the sake of the child but he hadn’t even brought it up.
She had thought about talking to him about it but her fears quickly overtook her whenever she built up the courage and though it frustrated her, she had more important things to worry about.
.•° ✿ °•.
Childbirth was an experience unlike any other and (Y/N) had to wonder how her mother did it five times but at the end when she held her daughter in her arms, she had never felt happier. It was, in fact, the best day of her life.
Tommy was sitting next to her on the bed, a similar smile on his face. He had never thought that he would become a parent but now that he was one, he found that all of his love was directly for one tiny human and their mother and he had something to live for. He wasn’t afraid of death but now he wouldn’t go throwing himself into situations where he could die and leave his family behind.
“What should we name her?” He asked
“I like the name Isla.”
“Isla Mary Shelby”
(Y/N) looked up at him, “Is Mary your mother’s name?”
Tommy nodded and (Y/N) smiled at him,
“I like that, it suits her. Isla Mary Shelby”
.•° ✿ °•.
Life with a newborn was hard and even though they had nannies on hand to help out, (Y/N) still had reservations on relying on them but slowly she was working towards something that worked for her.
The rest of the Shelby family were just as enamoured with Isla as her parents were and so Polly and Ada were regular visitors. (Y/N) in particular was very grateful for Polly’s presence, the woman always had the best advice and the woman would practically be the closest thing to a grandparent Isla would have.
As (Y/N) unlearned the behaviours of her own parents, so did Tommy. They did not want to become their parents and it took a lot of reassurance and from each other to make sure that they were doing the right thing, they weren't perfect but there was no such thing.
One day, when Isla was a few months old, Tommy brought up the elephant in the room; their marriage or much rather, their lack of one. They were outside, enjoying the warm weath of the summer, watching the horses in the field when he spoke up.
“One day, we’ll get married” He spoke out of the blue, linking their fingers together, “I’m not just saying that so that Isla is safe incase anything happens to me but I do love you and I do want to get married to you”
(Y/N) squeezed his hand, “Is this you proposing to me?”
“Yeah, it is”
Tommy pulled a ring box from out of his pocket and opened it and in there rested a gorgeous ring. He plucked the ring out of the box and held it out to her,
“(Y/N), will you marry me?”
(Y/N)’s lips pulled into a bright smile as she nodded, “Of course, I will.”
Tommy slipped the ring on her finger and pulled her into a kiss. (Y/N) gushed over the ring as she pulled Tommy into hug,
“I know our relationship is unconventional but I know we’re meant for each other”
“We’re good to each other,” Tommy agreed.
“I want to do it when she’s older though, so she can be the flower girl” (Y/N) says as she runs her fingers over Isla’s head, smiling at the little girl’s coos.
“A year or two then”
(Y/N) nods before she brings him into another kiss.
“What is your last name?” Tommy asks
“Does it matter? I am to be a Shelby” (Y/N) replied as she admired her ring.
“I suppose it doesn’t”
.•° ✿ °•.
Just as promised, two years later, Tommy and (Y/N) were getting married. The wedding ceremony would be taking place in a nearby church whilst the reception would be held at their house.
(Y/N) slipped her wedding dress on with the help of Polly whilst, Ada touched up her makeup.
“Nervous?” Polly asked as she did the buttons of the back of her dress
“No” (Y/N) said as she watched her daughter through the mirror, “It’s been a long time coming.”
Polly patted her shoulders, “You’re good to go.”
(Y/N) gave her one last smile before she made her way over to her daughter.
“Hi princess, you ready?” (Y/N) asked
Isla was already dressed as she sat on the floor, playing her dolls, with a cute hair clip that matched her dress.
“We see daddy?”
“Uh-huh” (Y/N) nodded, smiling when Isla jumped up and took her hand.
As she had no family to walk her down the aisle, John had stepped up and offered his arm, which she gratefully took. Isla toddled down first, throwing handfuls of petals out of her little basket down to the floor before she hurried over to wrap her arms around her father’s legs giving him a quick hug before Polly scooped her up.
Then, (Y/N) and John walked down and (Y/N) could not keep her eyes off of Tommy. He had a straight face but that did not fool her in any way, she knew he wanted the wedding as much as she did.
The ceremony sped by and before she knew it, (Y/N) was walking back down the aisle but this time her arm was in Tommy’s and their friends and family were cheering and throwing petals at them as they left the church.
They stopped at the steps as they waited for the rest of their family to join them and they took the moment to have half a second of alone time.
“I told you we should have gotten married just by ourselves with an officiant.” Tommy muttered underneath his breath.
“I don’t plan on having another wedding, do you? I want this to be a day I remember for the rest of my life” (Y/N) responded, “Now, please don’t frown, you’re worse than Isla.”
Tommy rolled his eyes at the reminder that his daughter took after him in many ways but relaxed his face as the rest of their family joined them and took their places for the picture.
.•° ✿ °•.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t know they would do this”
(Y/N) jumped when Tommy suddenly stormed into the room she was in, a newspaper clenched in his hands.
“Huh? What are you on about?”
Tommy gave her the newspaper before he began to angrily pace in front of her. (Y/N) looked down at the newspaper and her stomach dropped at the headline and the picture from their wedding day below it;
‘Thomas Shelby OBE MP marries wife in small wedding in Warwickshire’
“What the fuck…”
“They must have snuck in with the other photographer” Tommy theorised, “It’s a national paper”
“Oh Tommy,” (Y/N) sighed, “Is this today’s paper?”
Tommy shook his head, “Yesterday’s”
“Then it is too late” (Y/N) whimpered, “They know where I am and they’ll be here to get me”
“It’s been what, three, four years since you ran away, would they still care?”
“It doesn’t matter how long it’s been, they won’t stop until I’m back or dead. I defied them and they’ll never forgive me”
Tommy dropped to his knees in front of her, “They won’t I promise you that.”
“If this is yesterday's paper then they could be here already. It’s too late.”
“I have men here, we can take him”
(Y/N) shook her head in denial, “Not if they get my father or brothers”
“They’ll take a couple of weeks for them to get there, we can plan in that time.”
“No, Tommy” (Y/N) sounded defeated, “No offence, but your Peaky Boys have nothing on my fathers men and we’re isolated out here”
“Have you given up?” Tommy was in disbelief, “Have you given up on living? Given up on your daughter who sleeps upstairs?! That’s not who you are!”
“You don’t know them! They will kill all of us except me if we try to fight back and they will torture me with that fact. If I go to them without a fight, then you can live!”
“No. I refuse.”
“You refuse?” (Y/N) couldn’t help but laugh
“We go on the run. Escape to America until it’s all blown over”
“They’ll find us there and it’ll repeat until they get me”
Tommy released a frustrated sigh as he paced to the other side of the room and pour himself a large class of whiskey,
“I refuse to simply allow you to give yourself up to them. Isla needs her mother and I need my wife. You said you didn’t want to be the type of parents yours were but what you have planned, is simply no better.”
“Then what do you suggest?” (Y/N)’s voice was quiet but there was an edge to it.
“We go back to Small Heath, we gather our men and we plan.”
(Y/N) took a deep breath and nodded, “We do not give up”
Tommy pulled her into a hug, “We do not”
.•° ✿ °•.
They had temporarily moved back to Small Heath and Tommy and gathered all of the family but as (Y/N) refused to let anyone get too involved or close, the brunt of the plan laid on her shoulders.
It had almost been a month and nothing had happened which meant that her family was coming or she had managed to get away with it but they were still on edge and weren’t willing to put their guards down. Tommy had Moss keep an eye out along with Alfie Solomons sending information about what was happening in London. According to him, (Y/N)’s father’s men had paid for spies across the city and that they knew they were in Birmingham.
Their intuition was right when one day they had received a call from Moss about two cars heading into Small Heath and (Y/N) knew her family had finally arrived. Not wanting to bring the confrontation to the streets of Small Heath, Tommy and (Y/N) drove to the edge and met them there but they weren’t completely alone, Tommy had gun men placed around the area which gave them a little advantage but there was no knowing what her family had planned.
If things went south and neither (Y/N) or Tommy survived then Ada was instructed to escape to America with Karl and Isla and (Y/N) could only hope that wouldn’t happen.
They stood in silence as they waited for the family to arrive but when (Y/N) spotted them, she pulled Tommy into a kiss and hug,
“I love you, never forget that.” She whispers to him.
“I won’t”
They pulled apart when the cars pulled to a stop and turned to face the men who stepped out.
An older man stepped out first, before four younger men climbed out after him. (Y/N) could not help herself as she ran her eyes over her family, looking at what had changed since she last saw them.
“Father. Brothers” She greeted as they stood to a stop opposite her and Tommy.
The youngest brother, the one closest in age to her tipped his head in greeting whilst everyone else glared at her.
“Daughter. I see you decided to make the correct decision and give yourself up.”
(Y/N) snorted and shook her head, “I have not. I will not”
“Do not be foolish sister,” Her eldest brother takes a step forward, “Don’t you realise how worried we’ve been? We’ve been searching for you for year, only to find out you’ve been here in this...shithole”
Her brother looked around in disgust as he finished his sentence.
“Drop the act. I’m not here to play games.” (Y/N) was tired already, “I’m not leaving with you, so what’s your plan?”
“You don’t have a choice. I set up a marriage between you and my closest man, you know he has spent all these years travelling across the globe looking for you? He deserves a reward”
(Y/N) pulled a face at her fathers words, “First of all, I am not a reward, I am a human being. Second, he must have not been looking very hard considering I ended up being ousted by a newspaper and thirdly, I’m already married and I don’t plan on getting married again”
Her second eldest brother snarled at her, “You’ve grown a backbone sister. We’ll have to beat it out of you”
This caused Tommy to finally step forward and cleared his throat, “I can’t let you to do that”
“Who the fuck are you?”
“I’m her husband” Tommy gestured towards (Y/N) and she could see that he enjoyed it.
“Enough!” (Y/N)’s father stepped forward, “No more arguing, I’ll give you one last chance or we’ll take you by force”
(Y/N)’s shoulders slumped, “Why don’t you leave me alone? Go back and just forget about me”
“No one will take us seriously, if we don’t make an example out of you, then we’ll be seen as a joke.”
“I won't go and you cannot force me to and I’d much rather die than go anywhere with you”
Her father pulled out his gun and her brothers quickly followed which caused Tommy to do the same and the air was thick with tension.
“No, no, no if she wants to die then I’ll be the one to kill her.” Her father waved at her brothers and they put their guns away.
(Y/N) looked at Tommy and gave him a nod, and Tommy nodded back knowing the meaning behind the look and he put his gun away too. (Y/N) made her way to her father and when she was close enough, he reached out and pulled her towards him and jabbed his gun underneath her jaw.
“This is the end, daughter, you brought this upon yourself” Her father growled
“This is the end, but not for me”
(Y/N) pulled the gun she had been hiding in her waistband of her trousers and pressed it against her father’s chest. She didn’t even give him a moment to realise what was happening before she pulled the trigger, shooting her father in the chest.
He staggered back in shock before (Y/N) pushed him and causing him to fall backwards, landing on the floor with a thump,
“Fuck you!” (Y/N) spat in her native language.
One of her brothers came running at her and she pointed the gun at him, stopping him in her tracks, “I’ll kill you too, don’t fucking try me”
“Go back to your home and never return.” Tommy stepped forward.
(Y/N)’s brothers looked between each other before (Y/N) spoke again, “Leave. Take his body and go back. Never come back here or try to find me.”
Her eldest brother motioned for the youngest two to take the body of their father while he cursed at her,
“We’ll never forgive you and you’ll pay for your crimes in the afterworld”
“I’ll meet you there and we can pay for our crimes together”
Her brother growled her one last time before he got into the car and sped off. Once (Y/N) could no longer see them, she turned and collapsed into Tommy’s arms, a massive weight finally lifted off of her.
“You did it!” Tommy pulled away and smiled at her, “You did it, you wonderful woman”
(Y/N) let out a soft, “I did, didn’t I?”
Tommy took her gun and whistled, signalling for the men stationed around they could come down before he began to lead her towards the car,
“Want a drink?”
“Several but before that I want to see my daughter, go back to Arrow House and take a hot bath”
“Whatever you want”
.•° ✿ °•.
The shouts of children filled the gardens of Arrow House along with the chattering of adults and (Y/N) felt the last of the weight of her shoulders disappear. She had always been worried that her family would find her but now that they were truly gone, she could live without worry.
It was Isla’s third birthday and her and Tommy had decided to throw a party to celebrate it. Her and a group of local children were running around whilst the parents and other adults were sitting around enjoying the warm summer air and cool drinks.
Tommy crept up behind (Y/N) and wrapped one of his arms around her waist and gave her a kiss on her cheek, “You okay?”
(Y/N) gave him a smile and a nod, “I’m great”
“Mama!” Isla came running up to her, arms raised, “Up pwease!”
(Y/N) did as she was asked and lifted her daughter up, “What’s up princess?”
“Cake?”
“Hmm, I don’t know. What do you think, dad?” (Y/N) turned to Tommy with a smile
Isla turned to her father and put on her biggest puppy dog eyes, “Pwease dada!”
Tommy put on a show as if he was seriously debating on what to do, “Only if I get a hug from the birthday girl”
(Y/N) almost dropped Isla from how sudden she tried to get out of her arms and into her fathers but she helped her climb over and watched as she gave Tommy a tight hug with an added kiss on the cheek.
“Cake now?”
“Alright, go get your friends and we’ll go get the cake?” Tommy put her down and watched as she ran off to her friends.
“She’s growing up too fast” (Y/N) pouted as they walked inside, “In no time she’ll be spending most of her time at school”
“If she’s anything like her mother, she’ll be fine” Tommy assured her.
(Y/N) sighed, “I know, but I’m still going to be sad. Now let’s get going otherwise our princess will come storming in here demanding to know what’s taking so long”
Tommy pulled (Y/N) to a stop just before they entered the kitchen and cupped her face, “I love you”
(Y/N) smiled at him, “I love you too”

May I please request some angst with Kise being busy with basketball and modelling career neglecting his s/o? Additionally his s/o thinks he's cheating on them and just a big misunderstanding. Thank you very much 😊❤️
A/N: Even though I am quite late, happy Valentine’s Day! This actually got longer than I planned it to be, but I hope you’ll like it nonetheless! (。•̀ᴗ-)✧

Misunderstanding - Kise x reader
Tumblr media
If someone had told you that you’d become the Kise Ryouta’s girlfriend some time ago, then you wouldn’t have believed it.
Kise was a young face everyone would’ve recognized if they had seen it somewhere in public. His blond hair was partially at fault for that as well, but the main reason for his immense popularity was his side job as a young model for different fashion and makeup brands. On top of that, he had been a part of the legendary Generation of Miracles, a group of six young and talented basketball players who each had an extraordinary and never-seen-before skill that could turn every game around. He was very fond of this sport and wished to steadily improve himself at every possible opportunity so of course, it was a given that he’d continue his training even after middle school.
Thinking about this handsome man and all of his achievements made you wonder just how lucky you were for being able to call him your boyfriend. You still couldn’t wrap your head around the fact that the two of you went to the same school and were in the same grade, but never mind that, what surprised you the most was the moment he’d asked to meet you and then sheepishly confessed his interest in you and the wish to be by your side as your boyfriend. It was such a surreal situation that you couldn’t help but nod throughout the entirety of it.
The two of you didn’t know each other that well at first so the process of finding out everything possible about the other was quite fun and really made both of you forget about the stressful part of your daily lives. At first, you had expected that Kise was your typical playboy who’d just confess to anyone who met his preferences, but as time went on you actually saw past those prejudices of yours and were pleasantly surprised at how different he was than what you had imagined. He was a very caring, gentle, and nice guy who’d do anything to see you smile and hear you laugh or giggle. He made you feel like you were the only person in the entire world and that there was no one else he’d rather spent his time with than you. The surprises he prepared for you on special days such as Valentine’s Day or your own birthday were mind-blowing as well.
You of course made sure to always return that amount of love you’d received and his adorable reactions were the reason you felt like you’d fallen in love with him yet another time.
Everything was working out perfectly and the two of you were as happy as can be, but life, unfortunately, likes to ruin perfect moments like these...
The two of you were now third-years and Kise was slowly starting to think about his future plans, so he began taking on more modeling gigs during his free days, some of these even overlapped with the days on which you had planned a date. You were pretty understanding at first and even told him that you didn’t mind, but as these date reschedulings began occurring every single time it really made you sad. In fact, you were so sad that as soon as Kise mentioned having an upcoming free day you simply nodded and whispered a silent ‘I see.’
Nevertheless, you kept on visiting him during his basketball club’s training sessions and watched him steadily improve his performance with each passing day. His bright smile after every basket made your heart throb and a couple of weeks ago you would’ve interpreted it as a positive feeling but now? It simply pained you. Negative thoughts flooded your mind and is if that wasn’t enough, a group of his fangirls stormed the field moments after the referee had blown his whistle three times.
“Kise-kun, please look this way!!“
“Kise! Can you please sign my t-shirt?“
“C-Can I have your number please!“
Sights like these weren’t uncommon and you were used to ignoring them, knowing that Kise wouldn’t do anything that might upset you or his fans, but as of late situations such as these annoyed you. You sighed, stood up, and left the gym.
“(Y/N)! Wait up!“
At the sound of the familiar voice of your best friend, you obeyed his plea, turning back to the young man who was running up to you.
“Yukio! What’s wrong?”
He stopped right before you, greeting you with a small smile as he rubbed the back of his neck in slight discomfort.
“Is...Is something bothering you? Or more like...has everything been alright as of late? N-No that’s not it...Do you-”
“There’s no need to beat around the bush Yukio and you know it,” you say with a small smile as you gently bump your fist against his arm, “just tell me what’s been bugging you.”
He sighs in relief and you see how some tension leaves his shoulders as he asks you a rather surprising question: “I’ve noticed the tension between Kise and you, so tell me...what’s up with that? Do I need to step in and help you out with something?”
Yukio was quite perceptive, especially when it came to your and Kise’s relationship, he always made sure to keep up with your well-being since he knew how carried away your blond boyfriend could get. If it were any other occasion, you would’ve told your best friend what had bothered you so much, but now that you reflected on it, it seemed a rather meaningless reason for you to be upset over so you just shook your head lightly and brushed it off. Your counterpart on the other hand just squinted his eyes in suspicion but decided to let it go for now.
“Just make sure to tell him if something is worrying you, ok? Remember, communication is the key to every relationship.”
And with those wise words, he bid you farewell and jogged back to the gym...
“Hey...(Y/N)-cchi? Would you like to go on a date next Saturday?”
“..? Excuse me?”
The two of you looked into each other’s eyes with equally surprised expressions and not short after you both burst out laughing.
“I’m sorry Kise, I just didn’t expect you to invite me on a date, that’s all.“
Your boyfriend sat down next to you and took your hand in his own, gently caressing each of your fingers as he let his eyes roam around your facial features. Looking at him being that deeply lost in thought made you wonder just what was going through his mind. Usually, he’d try and avoid dating you in public or when it was still daytime because of the potential rumors and scandals it might start, so you couldn’t help but wonder just what brought this sudden change. With a rather sad-looking smile, he brought your hands to his lips and gently kissed your knuckles, his action causing your cheeks to redden ever so slightly.
“Hehe, sorry (Y/N)-cchi, it’s just...we haven’t been able to spend much time together and I need to tell you something important as well, so I thought that a date might be the best solution for this...”
Nothing he’d just said sounded good to you. Kise was rarely a person who’d organize something according to things he’d like to tell or discuss with you so the idea alone was a massive red flag for you. And yet, you couldn’t ignore the seriousness with which he’d approached you, so despite the uneasy feeling that was building up within you, you put on your best fake smile and nodded.
——
“Oh my god did you read today’s news?“
Stop it...
“I just can’t believe it and here I thought that he was a down-to-earth type of guy!“
But he is, I swear!
“You guys are exaggerating! He’s a playboy, you can see that from a mile away!“
N-No, you’re wrong!
“Did you guys actually know that these were actually some long-term fans of his from way back when he first debuted?“
So what...? I’m sure there must be some backstory to this...
“They could’ve at least picked a better and more hidden-away location than a love hotel right at the center of Shinjuku...“
Maybe they had a photo shoot around that area!
“Ugh, he makes me sick...and to think that I shared my book with him once.”
Please don’t say that...
“I feel sorry for his managers and teammates. Who knows what these poor souls have to go through because of this.“
T-That’s一
No matter how many corners you turned, stairs you climbed, or rooms you entered, everyone was talking about the same thing: Kise. The moment you had woken up, your phone was full of notifications, questions, and missed calls, but before you could even comprehend what was going on, one particular message had caught your attention.
♡ : I’m sorry (Y/N)-cchi but I won’t be coming to school today. This is all just a big misunderstanding...trust me
It was then that you had noticed the big headline of your phone’s news app:
MODEL KISE RYOUTA CAUGHT RED-HANDED! IS ONE NOT ENOUGH? Steamy adventures in front of Shinjuku’s most famous love hotel!
It had been such a massive slap to the face, that the entire morning was foggy to you, reality hit you the moment you had stepped on school grounds.
Gossip. Rumors. Lies. Disgust. Aggression. Madness. Sadness.
No matter how hard you tried to avoid any ill-meant word from your classmates, you just couldn’t escape. Your belief in the man whom you called your beloved, the one who promised you that you’d always be the one in his eyes, the same one who swore that this endeavor was nothing but a misunderstanding, was starting to waver.
Suddenly everything started to make sense.
His distant behavior towards you, the increasing amount of modeling gigs he took on, your surprise visits during his training that he’d loved so much went unnoticed and that important topic he wanted to discuss with you on your next date. Everything.
You felt how all those negative feelings you had accumulated during these past few months started to come forth. Just as you were on the verge of tears and wanted to do nothing but fall to your knees, scream and cry you came across Moriyama and Yukio.
“(Y/N)! There you are! How long do you think I’ve been looking for you?!”
The tall man alongside your best friend was quick to notice that you were quite distraught and immediately took a hold of his captain’s shoulder and squeezed it slightly. You truly appreciated that these two were looking for you and intended to calm you down or encourage you to think positively and rationally about this, but right now you couldn’t manage to listen to their kind and caring words, so you apologized, thanked them, and headed straight towards the rooftop, the place where Kise had confessed to you.
As if on cue, your phone began vibrating and as you looked at the screen you saw that the incoming call was from no other than the man who’d been on your mind since the early morning.
“K-Kise...?”
“(Y/N)-cchi! Thank god, you picked up! I’m sorry for the short and sinister message this morning, but I had to clear some things with my managers first bef-“
“So your image was once again more important, huh?”
“W-What...?”
Before you could stop yourself from saying something you’d regret later, your mouth was unfortunately quicker.
“Lately I hardly recognize you, Kise, it’s as if you’ve become an entirely different person. First, you confess your love to me all sheepishly, blushing from head to toe, then you treat me like I’m the center of the world and the only reason you live for, but as of late you’ve been prioritizing your work more than our joint time. I tried to be understanding, I really did, but if you asked me out just so that you could fulfill some kind of goal and boast to whoever with it, then I’m really the wrong person for this.”
Nothing but silence came from the other end of the line, so you took this as a sign to continue.
“Listen, Kise, I don’t need nor expect you to adore me as if I’m some kind of deity, but I at least would like to know what the backstory to today’s tabloid news meant...and I sincerely hope that you aren’t going to trot out some lame excuse because I wouldn’t be able to handle it.“
“...(Y/N)“
“I’ll see you this Saturday Kise.“ you whispered as you ended the call without waiting for his answer.
——
You looked at yourself in the mirror, dreading what this date would mean for your future with the blond young man. The entire week-long you had deliberately avoided him in order to keep your thoughts as rational as you could and not let them get influenced by neither your feelings for him nor the supporting words of your friends. It was hard to ignore the guilty and worried stares he sent your way and whenever you saw the vicious glares others gave him, it really tugged at your heartstrings, but somehow you managed to withstand any possible temptation.
During the bus drive to the city center, you once again looked at the screenshot you took of the article that had caused you so much despair over the past few days. The blurry photo showed a tall blond man who was without a doubt Kise, trapping some girl whose face was covered by pixels between himself and the wall of the love hotel while the second one was pulling on his dark blue jacket, the same one which you had given him as his last year’s birthday present. Judging by the image alone it did look like Kise and the two girls were on their way to the rather flashy establishment, but your boyfriend couldn’t quite hold himself back and decided to start on the fun beforehand.
Cheating, huh...?
You bit your lip and thought about it. A famous and perky guy like him already had a stable fangirl club that followed him at each step so him feeling tempted during your time as a couple wouldn’t have surprised you in the slightest and yet it pained you so much that you could’ve started crying right then and there in front of all the other people that were sitting in the bus with you.
The city was brimming with people left and right, exiting and entering shops and restaurants. Today should’ve marked a happy occasion since it was the first public date the two of you had ever planned while the streetlights were still off. You had agreed to meet right in front of a small cafe that was close to the station and wasn’t one of the popular hangout spots so that you could at least have some sense of privacy. Each step you took fueled your anxiety of what was about to come and no matter how many deep breaths you took, you just couldn’t calm your raging heart down.
You finally saw a blond head sticking out among the crowd and just as you were about to raise your hand and wave to him, you halted. Kise was apparently not alone and had come alongside yet another girl who was constantly clinging to his arm, trying to get him to move.
“What did I even expect...?”
The crowd before you started to disappear and the two of them finally came into full view, but so did you. His yellow eyes met with your glassy ones and you could immediately see how regret and sorrow distorted his already distressed face.
“(Y/N)-cchi, wait...i-it’s not what it looks like..!”
You felt something warm fall down your cheeks and without paying it any mind you simply turned around and began walking back where you came from. Kise’s desperate calls for you to wait up were ignored and whenever his voice seemed too close to you, you sped up but he was too persistent. Despite the dense crowd you constantly walked amongst he never lost track of you.
(Y/N)-cchi! Please wait!
It’s all a misunderstanding, I promise you!
Listen to me, please!
(Y/N)!
You were trying to isolate his desperate pleas to such an extent that you hadn’t noticed the park you had just walked in. There were barely any people who strolled around this small yet beautiful piece of nature. The thought of elderly people walking their pets here, children running around and couples occupying the benches made you imagine just what excellent spot this would’ve been for a proper first date...
The young man behind you had used the time you were lost in thoughts to close the distance between you, but as soon as had returned from your small daydream and noticed how close he was to you, your body involuntarily urged you to run. And you did.
N-No, wait...!
You were fully aware of what you were doing, and you felt terrible for it. Kise’s leg had been injured for quite some time and he was told to not overdo it, which meant that he had to renounce running for most of the time so that he had enough energy and leg power left for his basketball matches.
And yet why..?
Why was he running after you as if his life depended on it? As if it was the last point his team needed for victory? Why?
You stopped sprinting and swiftly turned around. The man who had been an arm’s reach from you didn’t expect your sudden halt and collided with you, but luckily he caught you just before you lost your footing and pulled you towards his heaving chest. His trembling arms wrapped around your body and tightened their grip.
“Finally...”
The way he hugged you made all the wonderful and sweet memories of your life with him came up, leaving you with no other option but to return his embrace with the same amount of love.
“Kise...are you crazy? Why did you start running after me with your injured leg?” you asked after a short while and even though your question was intended to sound like a lecture, it ended up having a worrisome tone instead.
“This small amount of pain is nothing compared to the pain I made you feel these past few weeks.”
A small smile adorned your lips, but at the same time, you had to continuously think about all the things that had happened in this week alone, causing your smile to vanish almost immediately. You wanted answers and you needed them now.
“Kise, please...I want you to-“
“Explain. Yes, I know.” he interrupted and slowly backed up, looking you directly into your eyes.
After he’d taken hold of your hands, he began by defusing the situation that had transpired some mere seconds ago. The girl that was tugging on him was apparently a fan of his who’d drunk one too many beers. She’d unintentionally run into him and had almost lost her balance, but as caring as he was he held onto her and that’s when she had found out his true identity. Kise tried to keep her as silent and calm as possible, but that was easier said than done. The moment you had arrived was when she had started pulling his clothes, pleading him to come to her house and sign all of her merch.
“So about that article...on that day we had a photo shooting in Shinjuku and I was asked to take a break so I wandered about and that’s when two girls came from the love hotel. I wasn’t disguised so they immediately recognized me and tried to ask me out and whatnot. They were so persistent that I told them about you...they thought I was lying and then...”
You saw his sudden change in demeanor, his jaw muscles had tensed up and his grip on your hands was harder than earlier. Kise was rarely mad at something or someone, but what you saw before you, that anger and unspoken hatred were a first for the normally cheerful young man.
“They began insulting you, saying how you were together with me just because of my looks and nothing more. How dare they talk you down to their level? Just who do they think they are?!”
You expected any random excuse but seeing him get so worked up for your sake made your heart ache and now that you knew the backstory, the pictures made more sense. Your lover explained that he’d lost his temper and had pushed the girl who’d trash-talked you against the wall, warning her to keep her mouth shut before he really lost it. Meanwhile, her friend had tried to get him away from her by pulling on his jacket, and apparently, that’s when one of the passersby shot the photo. He took a short break after telling you that and then out of nowhere he brought his face closer to your own.
“(Y/N)-cchi...that’s not all. Do you remember our phone call when you told me that I’ve changed?“ he asked and waited for your confirmation before continuing, “...well the reason I didn’t call you first and had to deal with my manager is that we considered making my relationship with you public.”
“Wh-What...?“
“I’ve had enough of people trying to flirt with me and not believing when I say that I’ve found the perfect partner already. You see...graduation is just a few months away and after that I wanted to concentrate more on our relationship, hoping that maybe you’d like to...to live together with me.“
If you weren’t shocked enough before then his proposal just know had given you the finishing blow. Your heart was beating so fast and so loud that you feared he could’ve heard it.
“Was...was this the reason you took on so many jobs?”
He noded in embarrassment. “I wouldn’t feel confident enough to propose such an idea when it seems so far away and unrealistic, so I wanted to gain some sense of stability and independence before I asked you.”
Kise continued his explanation, but you didn’t catch most of it since you were so lost in your thoughts. The man before you had taken so many overtime shifts, had sacrificed so many of your dates, had gotten himself in a scandal for your sake, and yet here you were doubting him and doing something so childish like running away from him. You bit your lower lip and jumped into his arms, silently apologizing to your lover for your presumptuous behavior. He simply returned your embrace and kissed your temple.
Sometimes, misunderstandings such as these do have their benefits...

Mornings
A/N: Just a little TodoDeku x Reader thing I had saved in my drafts. I feel like some of it doesn’t flow, sorry. I worked on it at different times, and to be completely honest, I wrote it in a different POV when I started it so I had to go back and change the first few paragraphs. I figured you guys needed something, and this gave me a break from everything else.
Pairing: Poly TodoDeku x GN!Reader
Warnings: Mild angst, Todoroki crying, mention of nightmares, shirtless Izuku
Genre: Mild angst, mostly domestic fluff.
Oh yeah I forgot because I was tired but I came back here to emphasize that this is an established poly relationship between Izuku, Todoroki, and the reader, and that both boys and the reader are aged up 21+ as they always are in my poly pairings.
The blaring of an alarm clock drags you from your sleepy reverie as you slowly come to. Your eyes are still tired and blurry, but you recognize the familiar green mop of hair to your right as Izuku’s. It takes you a minute to process everything with your brain still half asleep, but you feel him reach around and over you to hit the snooze button, effectively silencing the bane of your existence every morning. Squinting, you roll over and read the time; 5:00 am is way too damn early to be awake right now.
The boy who only moments ago had been snoring peacefully next to you suddenly sits up, stares blankly for a moment to gather his bearings, then carefully slips out of bed so as not to wake you and Shouto (though it was a bit too late for your sake). When he realized you were staring him down with groggy eyes and a cute pout, he smiled but couldn’t help feeling bad for waking you up. He tried to apologize quietly, ruffling your hair gently before giving you a quick kiss on the cheek while telling you to go back to sleep. But you knew it was too late for that, and you rubbed at your eyes sleepily as you watched him change into the familiar pair of basketball shorts he used to work out in and one of his many signature graphic tees.
“Zuku, can I go with you on your run?” you whispered, trying to push yourself up from the bed slowly. But before you could make it all the way up, a pair of arms wound their way around your torso, and you felt yourself being dragged back down to the mattress softly. Todoroki nuzzled his face into your neck from behind, exhaling a warm puff of air that sent goosebumps down your arms and caused the hair at the nape of your neck to raise slightly.
“I don’t think Shouto wants you to,” Izuku chuckled, “although I’m sure he would understand if you did. Do you want me to wait for you?”
Behind you, Shouto mumbled a halfhearted “Stay,” sleep evident in his voice as he drifted back to dreamland before he even finished speaking.
The warmth he radiated and the soft blankets you snuggled back into were enough to keep you from trying to get up a second time, and you were entirely tempted to succumb to the newfound drowsiness that washed over you. “S’ fine...” you murmured to your partner. If you had the energy to say more you would have, but Shouto’s even breathing was lulling you to sleep faster than you realized. “Hey...Deku?” The words were barely coherent, but they were there and he heard them. He took them especially serious at the mention of his hero name, which he knew you only used when you really needed something.
“Yes, sweetheart?” He made his way over the edge of the bed, kneeling down to your level as he lightly ran his thumb over your jawline in a loving way.
“Can I have your sweatshirt? Smells like you...” Your eyes were already closed again, facial features relaxing as Izuku continued to caress your cheek with his thumb.
“Of course, love.” Izuku smiled at the request. He gave you one last look of adoration before starting to rummage through the room for a specific hoodie that he’d worn to work this week; it happened to be his softest one, and he’d drenched the thing with his cologne on accident, so it probably still smelled like him.
He let out a small noise in triumph as he found the sweatshirt on the back of his computer chair before he gave it an experimental sniff to make sure it really was clean. It was, although he’d definitely used way too much of his cologne for his liking; good thing he wasn’t the one who would be using it today. Making his way back to you, he scrunched his nose up at the overbearing smell and let a puff of air out of his nose. You would love it.
“Here, baby.” You felt him gently shake you to get your attention, but you refused to open your eyes, instead latching onto his arm that held the hoodie and cuddling up to both. “H-Hey, hun-” Izuku let out a quiet laugh at your reaction while carefully trying to pull his arm away. You eventually gave in and let go, preferring to rub your face into his shirt and take a deep breath in to smell his cologne. “I love you both dearly. Sweet dreams.”
And with one last pat to both your and Shouto’s head, Izuku was out the door and on his usual morning run.
The next time you woke, golden rays of sun were filtering in through the blinds covering your window and Todoroki was stirring quietly next to you, a yawn escaping his lips. You were curled tightly into a ball, your arms curled into your chest while your hands grabbed at something you didn’t remember having before bed last night. Opening your eyes and letting them focus for a moment, you realized you were holding one of Izuku’s favorite hoodies, and a few fleeting memories from earlier in the morning returned as you rolled over to greet Shouto.
“Hi, baby.”
Shouto smiled affectionately at your hello and brought a hand to rest against your cheek before leaning in for a kiss. “Morning, babe. Did you sleep okay?”
“I did. How did you sleep, princess?” you teased.
“I slept okay,” he forced out after an odd pause. You could tell there was more he wanted to say, that there was an unspoken ‘but’ at the end of his words, though he remained quiet and didn’t explain any further.
“Are you having those dreams again?” you asked quietly, your voice barely above a whisper. You weren’t really afraid to ask, but you knew it could bring up bad memories for him if you pried any more than necessary.
“No.” He frowned, but the tension in his face didn’t leave. “I haven’t had any dreams about my father for a really long time now, ever since I moved in with you and Izuku.”
You were touched. You’d known since the start of your relationship that Todoroki sometimes had night terrors, and most of the time they consisted of his father or his mother, maybe even a few other family members. It wasn’t uncommon for either you or Izuku to get a phone call from him in the middle of the night or first thing in the morning right as you were waking up before you all moved in together. It had happened a few times after you were all sharing the house together, but someone had always been there physically to comfort him after that. And now that you thought back on it, it had stopped shortly after the move, which meant that having you and Izuku around all the time must have really helped him cope.
“Really? I’m so glad to hear that! We were really worried about you for a while, you know.” You smiled and ran a hand through his hair gently causing him to hum in appreciation and lean into your touch. His hand fell from your face and came to rest atop the one carding through his hair, momentarily pulling it away to stop the motion even though it seemed he wanted more.
“I love you,” he said suddenly, firmly, as if he would never again get the chance. His tone startled you, and you met his heterochromatic eyes to see tears forming in the corners of them.
“I love you too. Hey, what’s wrong?” You kept your voice soft so as not to further overwhelm him, though your chest flooded with anxiety about what could possibly be bothering him.
Shouto squeezed your hand tightly before responding, eyes scrunching up as he bit back a sob and sniffed. “I don’t have those dreams anymore, which is nice, but...” He couldn’t help the small cry that escaped his throat; you felt your heart crack at the sound. “It was a nightmare, a-and you...Midoriya...I couldn’t save you-!”
You wasted no time in pulling your partner to your chest, your arms wrapping around him securely as you placed his head under your chin. Shouto was a silent crier, but his body heaved with every breath and shook with every tear that left him. You did your best to provide comfort. The three of you were all too familiar with nightmares, as they were often a product of your jobs as heroes, and each of you had been subject to awful dreams after failed missions and jobs gone wrong. In fact, you recalled having one just the other night about a particular villain you’d fought against and lost to earlier in the month- if it weren’t for Bakugou, you weren’t sure what would have happened...he had pried you from the villain’s clutches himself and saved your life with basic first aid after you’d been heavily wounded.
You each dealt with nightmare’s differently, but the bottom line was that you were all there for each other when you needed to be. Even now, as Shouto sobbed into your shirt, you were there pressing kisses to his temple and rubbing a hand on his back, murmuring sweet nothings and words of comfort until he had regained some of his composure. When he finally calmed down enough to breathe evenly again, he pulled away from your embrace and kissed you once more on the lips; it was his way of both thanking you and reassuring you that he was okay.
You returned his sweet kiss before reaching behind you, your hand feeling around on the bed for something specific you knew would benefit your boyfriend more than it would you right now. Finally finding purchase in the soft material, you pulled Izuku’s hoodie over to the other side of the bed where Shouto was and set it in front of him. He gladly melted into it just as you had when Deku had given it to you.
“Smells like Midoriya.” Todoroki sniffled and closed his eyes, one hand fisting your shared partner’s shirt and his other lacing his fingers between yours, palms warm and soft.
You let your mind drift as you both laid there together in a comfortable silence. Birds chirping outside and the sounds of people going about their everyday lives created a sort of morning ambiance while you absentmindedly started humming, the most recent catchy tune you had heard finding it’s way to your vocal chords as you serenaded the bedroom softly.
“Please don’t stop,” Todoroki pleaded with you. His eyes were still closed, his face finally soft and relaxed.
You only smiled and continued. About a half hour later, while you were in the middle of singing a sweet melody that Todoroki had personally asked for, you heard the sound of the front door opening and shoes behind kicked off hastily before heavy footsteps were trudging up the stairs to the bedroom. You stopped singing as Deku opened the door, Shouto grumbling out a complaint about you stopping before lifting his head up to see what the commotion was about.
“I’m back, and I brought breakfast and coffee!” He set a drink carrier down on the computer desk along with a couple small bags that smelled of something sweet before ripping off his sweaty shirt, tossing it on the floor without a care in the world. “Scoot over!” He gave only one single warning before he was diving into the bed with the two of you, worming his way in between you with a sly smile and snuggling up to your front side in all his sweaty glory.
“Oh, Izu, yuck-” You feigned disgust but laughed and pulled him close regardless, your nose undecided about whether the smell of his sweat was gross or appealing. There was something about when you caught the two boys post-workout before they showered; you weren’t sure why, but it made you feel certain ways.
“You know you love it! Come here, both of you!” He wrapped an arm around each of you and pulled you both to his chest, Todoroki smirking and cuddling into him while you tried to pull away playfully. But he was much stronger physically, and you only squirmed as he held you in place.
“Can you go back to singing now, Y/N?” Shouto asked, his voice much more upbeat now.
“Oh, you were singing? Can I make a request!?” Izuku interjected.
“Only if you let me go so I can get up and pee.” You sat up as he released his hold on you, a triumphant grin on your face as you swung your legs out of bed and made a dash to get up. “Ha! Breakfast is mine!”
“Oh no you don’t-” Curse Izuku’s quirk. There was a reason he was the number one hero in Japan; he outmatched you not just in physical capabilities, but speed as well. You let out a happy squeal as he reached over and grabbed you from behind, lifting you up slightly and tossing you in the middle of the bed between the two boys.
“I wasn’t done cuddling yet.” Todoroki snuggled into you, and you didn’t try to move this time as Izuku curled around you from behind.
“You two were so cute this morning, all cuddled up in bed. I wish I would have taken a picture; it was adorable. And then when I gave you my hoodie, Y/N, you latched on to my arm and wouldn’t let go...what a cutie.”
Your face flushed and grew hot, your heartbeat speeding up a little as Izuku squeezed you tight and pressed his lips against your neck.
“You still owe me half a song, Y/N.”
You ran a hand through Todoroki’s hair as you spoke, “Half your song, and then coffee and breakfast, or it’ll get cold.”
“I want a song too!”
You sighed, picking up where you left off and smiling to yourself. Even if breakfast got cold, you could reheat it. But moments like these? They only happened every so often, and you always made the most of them. Breakfast would just have to wait.

More Than An After Thought (James X Reader)
Tumblr media
Summary: James and the Reader have been friends for years. After years of the Reader silently pining, James asks the Reader on a date. However the Reader can’t get over the years James spent chasing after Lily. What changed? Why now?
Requested By: @msmb
Word Count: 1,998
TW: None
A/N: Hi guys! This is my first fic on this account! Remember requests are always open! Thanks for reading! <3
---
The patchy noise of a playing record fills the room. You bob about while tidying up your hair and putting the final details on your outfit. You step in front of the mirror and take a look at yourself. You smear a bit of rouge on your cheeks and the tip of your nose and gingerly to your lips. You catch yourself humming along to the old jazz record James had gifted you.
James had been your friend of many years. The two of you knew the very worst and best parts of each other and it was a rare sight to catch one of you walking about the halls of Hogwarts without the other. “Potter and L/N are entirely inseparable” your classmates would say “They practically share a mind”. And you did. That is, besides one thing. You had been pining over James since your second year. He, however, did not reciprocate those feelings until recently. For as long as you, and well everyone in your year, could remember James only had eyes for Lily Potter. Damn that Lily. She was nice enough but you couldn’t help but be jealous of her, and more particularly how James looked at her.
You shake the thought of Lily from your mind and continue touching up your final ensemble, for James was to be at your dorm any minute to pick you up. He had, rather surprisingly, asked you out to dinner last friday in Potions specifying that it was “a date kid of dinner”. You were completely overjoyed when first invited. However, with time to think you’ve become suspicious of James’s true intentions. Right as the clock hit seven o’clock a knock came at your dormitory door. A knock that was surely James.
“One moment!”
You run to slip on your shoes and grab your bag. James’s slight chuckle can be heard on the other side of the door.
“C’mon Y/N! We said seven. You’re usually more punctual than this.” There's an air of teasing in his voice that your nerves mask.
You throw the door open and apologetically smile. James is dressed far more formal than usual in a button up tucked into a pair of plaid slacks. He holds a modest bouquet of delicate flowers. He stops and looks at you like a deer in the headlights.
“You look great Y/N. Absolutely stunning.” He smiles nervously.
“Thanks. You don’t look too bad yourself”
There’s a silence, which is uncommon between you two. Finally, James clears his throat and hands the bouquet to you.
“Here, these are for you. I overheard you telling Remus you like the ones that grow outside the Quidditch field.”
You take the flowers and smile, your worries fleeing, and look back up to James.
“These are wonderful, thank you.”
You set the flowers inside your dorm before meeting James at the door once again.
“So where are we off to?” you ask.
“That’s a surprise.” James grins and holds out his hand for you to take.
Your heart pitter patters every so slightly as you take his. It’s warm and strong yet his grip is delicate and gentle. The two of you descend the dorm stairs and weave through the passages of Hogwarts until James opens a door and the sun pours over your face. There, on the grounds near the Black Lake sits an extravagant, candlelit picnic near the edge of the Black Lake. A gasp escapes you and you look excitedly at James. When your eyes meet his lit up face you see the wide smile plastered on his face. The joy and excitement practically drips from him when he notices how content you look. You both walk out towards the picnic blanket.
“James. This is so sweet. Did you do all this?”
“I had a little help. I bribed the house elfs to let me use the kitchen. It wasn’t easy but I finally promised them that Sirius and I would stop taking eggs from the kitchen to throw at Snape.”
“You really ought to stop that y’know. You’ll get expelled soon enough”.”
“Nah ol’ Sniffleous Snape wouldn't go to Slughorn and tell.”
“If you say so.” You roll your eyes at James’s mischievous nature. “So what all do we have here?”
You gaze at the quilt topped with a half a dozen mini platters and small containers of delectable food. And lying in the middle, the crown jewel of it all, lyes a pitiful cake decorated with strawberries and sprinkles. The both of you sit opposite to each other and look at the feast James had put together.
“Well let’s see we have apple tarts and some sandwiches here. A couple of boxes of chocolate frogs, and a couple of ciders. Oh! And then some chips. Yeah. Ah and the cake. You like strawberries, yeah?”
“Yeah. Strawberry cake is wonderful.”
“Well don’t wait on my account go ahead.” James chuckles and hands you a plate.
You take it and begin to fill your plate with the delectable foods before you. James serves himself as well and while doing so you catch each other’s glance on and off, which would make both of your cheeks ever so slightly hot. The slight breeze tickles your skin. The sun has nearly set and the floating candles illuminate your romantic picnic. You glance up to catch James eye. His skin and eyes glow in the firelight. Somehow he looked even more handsome in this light. His eyes travel over you, as if climbing your body to reach your eyes. You feel the steady, strong rhythm of your heart. He draws closer to you, leaning in.
Your heart begins to race. You have waited so very long for this. It feels as though his lips are miles away and so very close all at the same time. Your mind races through all the times you’ve thought of how this would go. All the scenarios, the daydreams, the what ifs. How have you known your feelings for James this long and not have shown him. And then it hits you.
Lily.
For years James has fancied Lily. You watched him flirt and gaze and fawn over her. You gave him advice, you listened to him go on and on about how ‘It’s finally it Y/N! I think I know how to win Lily over’. You watched him buy her flowers, and call her beautiful, and plan her picnics… just like this one.
You pull yourself away and pick at your cake, avoiding James’s confused look. There’s a moment of silence before you hear James clear his throat.
“Y/N? Is everything alright?” James asks.
Before you can begin to think to stop yourself you ask,”Why me?”
“What?”
This time you look up to meet his eyes. Not missing a beat you ask once again,
“Why me, James?”
“I don’t understand what you-”
“What did Lily turn you down so you figured you might as well not waste the food?”
James furrows his brow and sets down his plate.
“What? Where is this coming from Y/N?”
“Why me James? What’s with the sudden interest? What, you need a rebound because I’m not here for that okay. So just tell me what’s actually going on.”
“Y/N I don’t-”
Tears well up ever so slightly. A weight in your chest sinks down to your stomach. You should’ve known. Why would he chase Lily so long and suddenly magically have an interest in you. It’s impossible, childish even to consider it true. You’re simply nothing more than a rebound, leftovers, a second choice.
“I’m sorry. This was a mistake I gotta go.” you sniffle before standing up.
“Y/N wait! You don’t understand.”
James stands and grabs your hand, gently but firm. You face away from him so he can’t see the singular tear running down your hot face. You freeze in your spot. A chill of embarrassment washes over your body as you feel his eyes on you.
“Now damn Y/N will you just wait a second!” He says.
You want so badly to be anywhere but here. With anyone but him. But a part of you clings to the pleading in his voice.
“James just get it over with. Stop fucking with me.”
James takes a deep breath and takes a step closer to you.
“What I was going to say, before you decided to run off, was that I don’t want to mess this up. You and I, we’ve always had this connection. And I know you feel it too. Everytime we’re together and our hands brush or you meet my gaze a little longer than usual my heart flutters. But I cast it aside because I didn’t want to ruin our relationship as well as I assumed you didn’t feel the same way. Y/N, you’re my best friend; but recently I’ve come to realise it’s always been a little more than that.”
“But James, what about Lily?”, you ask.
“Lily and I will never happen. She has no interest in me and quite honestly the more I chased the more I lost interest in her and… fell more in love with you.”
You can feel James’s gaze grow stronger on you. You whip your head to face him, releasing your hand from his grasp in the process.
“Oh I gotcha, so Lily’s off the table now so you’ll just have to have the leftovers. Is that what I am to you? An afterthought?”
“No, Y/N, of course not! You’re just there for me! I’ve been so stupid, flailing myself about at someone who doesn’t give a damn about me when right in front of me is you, Y/N. You make me smile and laugh so hard my throat hurts. You come to everyone of my Quidditch games and cheer with all your might. You call me out and keep me in check when I go too far. Your eyes make me feel like you can read me like an open book which terrifies me but in a strange sense makes me feel seen and loved. I love you Y/N. You’re not a second choice. There’s no bloody competition when it comes to you.”
It’s silent for a moment as James looks to you for a response. You’re stunned by his burst of eloquence. You take a step towards him and a fear grows in his eyes. As you finally reach him you wrap your hand to the back of his neck and pull him in for a passionate kiss.
He kisses you back immediately. The kiss felt desperate and yearning; as both of you run your hands tenderly to cup each other’s faces.  Everything in your body feels like static. Excitement flows throughout you. It’s exactly as you imagined, quite better actually. James’s lips are soft and his kiss is warm and smooth. You feel years of pining and frustration melt away in the kiss.
James pulls away softly, “Now, I believe there’s a very romantic and tasty picnic waiting for us. If you’d like to join me?”
You smile, your worries dead and gone, “Absolutely.”
James takes a step back and holds out his hand for you to take. You take it and the both of you step back onto the quilt and resume your date, now giggling and recalling all the times you wanted to tell one another about your hidden feelings. The stories flow back and forth til the sun sets right over the Black Lake. And with the sunset the both of you blew out the candles and lied on the quilt, full from the meal, and gazed at the stars in a comfortable silence. Completely content. And still utterly overjoyed by your first kiss. James intertwines your hand in his, drawing circles with his thumb on the back of your hand.
“Y/N?”
“Yeah James?”
“This is so much better than being friends.”
“I think so too, James.”

WARNINGS: you know me, an ungodly amount of fluff, some earl grey tea, v is once again pining but guess what?!? he does something about it!!
WORD COUNT: 1.2k
AUTHOR’S NOTE: it’s never a bother!! i was so happy to take this request, i cannot even begin to express it! i am, at my core, an absolute whore for v, so i’ll write fics about him any chance i get :)
Tumblr media
“You’re back.” V’s frame hung in the doorway of his apartment, watching as the smile crept up her lips.
“Well, what can I say?” she mused, her voice numbingly sweet. “I just can’t seem to stay away from this place.”
He laughed, his gaze lingering over her for a moment before he stepped back, his arm gesturing her into his home.
“Well, I hope you know you’re always welcome.” She closed the door behind her, the lock gently clicking into place as her boots found their rightful place on the rug, the toes still soaked from the rain.
V’s apartment always seemed to smell like home—the undeniable scent of warm honey that smothered the rooms in an irreplaceable brilliance. Soft cafe music hummed from a radio in the kitchen, low lights and burning candles illuminating the space. It was… cozy, to say the least.
He reached out to grab her jacket as she shrugged it off her shoulders before he hesitated, catching a glimpse of his paint-stained fingers.
“They’re dry, I promise.” She huffed, a breath of laughter escaping her lips.
“I don’t think I’d notice even if they weren’t” She handed it over so he could hang it from the coat rack behind him. “It’s an old jacket.”
“Ah,” his fingers fumbled with the collar, draping it softly over the rack. “It’d be a shame if something were to happen to it, though. It suits you wonderfully.” Heat bubbled under her skin, the warmth of affection evident throughout her flesh.
She stood there for a moment, rubbing her palms together in attempts to soothe them from the chill of the city streets. Rain was no uncommon occurrence in the city, but such a thing so late in the year was almost unheard of.
“So,” she finally spoke up, her eyes gathering the strength to meet his. “What are you working on?” Her elbow jetted out, gesturing towards his hands.
“Oh, I would love to show you, but would you like some tea first? It looks absolutely frigid out there.” She hummed, stepping into the kitchen.
“I can get it.” Her footsteps were light against the floor as she snatched the kettle out of one of the cabinets, filling it under the sink, and placing it onto the stove. V smiled, watching as she moved so fluidly throughout his home.
He thanked her and she hummed in reply, her voice reverberating throughout the apartment.
After she moved out, it’d felt emptier than he ever cared to admit. They both knew her presence was only supposed to last long enough for him to recover from surgery, but the day she moved out left an undeniable melancholy feeling over the apartment.
He considered himself more than lucky that she returned often. It started with her dropping by when she was in the neighborhood, bringing him a plethora of produce she’d bought at the farmers’ market. But this slowly turned into weekly visits, and that turned into her spending more time in his apartment than her own.
And yet, V found himself doing anything other than complaining.
Her fingers lingered over the steam that arose as water dripped from the kettle in her hands. She didn’t have to ask anymore. She knew which teas he liked, his favorite mug, how long he steeped it for. Truthfully, she knew everything about him. She had for a long time.
Silently, she slid the cup towards him and he held it between his fingers, a content hum falling from his mouth. It was Earl Grey again.
“Now,” she sipped from the mug in her hands, a smile pulling at the edges of her cheeks. “Your project.”
“Oh.” V slid his way out of the seat, gesturing her to follow him down the hall, towards his studio. The door was open, a wave of warmth spilling from the frame.
He watched her step into the room, a flutter roaming deep in his chest. Her features grew wide with the same wonder they did the first time she entered, her fingers dancing along the edges of empty canvases.
A painting sat in the middle of the room.
The canvas was splattered in an array of colors. Short brush strokes painting streaks in the morning sky, long navy lines shaping the arms of his couch, and a woman sitting directly in the middle—her legs tucked under her and a mug in her lap.
“Is that..?” She approached it slowly, tiny footsteps propelling her forward. He tilted his head, realizing the shock he had put her in, and he couldn’t help but feel a little guilty. If she didn’t like it, would she feel obligated to say she did? If she didn’t want her image immortalized in an array of oil paints, would she tell him?
“Jihyun.” His ears perked up at the sound of his name—his real name.
When he said it was time for him to start going by Jihyun Kim again, she was more than supportive, but the switch took time. More often than not they both found themselves falling back onto old ways and V remained, well, V. His real name seemed to be reserved for moments like these. Moments when the world grew quiet and the soft lilt of her voice settled deep within his ears. He grew to enjoy them—await them, even.
“Did you paint me?” He hesitated, slowly reaching out to place a hand on her shoulder.
“I did. I deeply apologize if you don’t enjoy it, I can always scrap it if—”
“No.” His mouth hung opened as she interrupted him, her voice still barely breaking the humming of his heaters. “It’s beautiful.”
She turned to face him, pure adoration settled deep within her bones.
“It’s beautiful.”
V stumbled over replying with a small ‘you’re beautiful,’ but hesitated. The words felt too clunky—too foreign in his mouth.
“Thank you,” is what he settled on. A smile beamed across his features, his tongue brushing against his bottom lip.
They stood in silence for a moment, gratefulness pouring across his features, and affection spread over her own. Under his gaze, he could see everything about her. Every detail atop her skin, every color that dotted her irises, and every part of her that laid deeper than that. Is this what she saw when she looked at him—when they looked at each other?
Before he could think any further, they both found themselves leaning in. The exchange was wordless, the space between them growing smaller and smaller until suddenly, their lips touched.
The kiss was nearly nothing at all, but the buzzing sensation that grew from his mouth to across his cheeks was enough to make his chest soar. His fingers reached for her hip, a small gesture of devotion, one to pull her in further.
She melted into him, her hands reaching up to hold his jaw, her forehead pressed against his. This moment was long-awaited. So many tireless nights, and reading books, and clicking through the pictures on his camera. So many favorite teas, and stolen glances, and moments that he wouldn’t trade for the world.
His breath hitched, fingers reaching up to brush her bottom lip, and a confession, just loud enough for her to hear, falling from his mouth.
“I have wished to do that every time you came back.”

Luke and (Y/N) knew each other since they were kids. They had been neighbors since childhood, so it wasn’t uncommon for them to be playing with each other in their adjoining backyards most days. But time went by and slowly they got older. On his 8th birthday, Luke had gotten a guitar and quickly realised his dream of becoming a rock star. After meeting Alex Mercer and Reggie Peters in middle school, the dream slowly became reality. Sunset Curve was born. (Y/N), on the other hand, took on violin instead.
As time passed, they slowly began to grow apart. One would describe Luke’s style of music and dress as more rock n’ roll grunge. (Y/N), however, looked the total opposite, elegant, poised, which could also be heard through her playing throughout the neighborhood. (Y/N) listened to classical music and took ballet lessons while Luke continued his guitar lessons and went to ice hockey practice. It seemed like after all this time, the two had nothing in common anymore.
Now they were in high school and they barely knew the other existed anymore. The only times Luke saw (Y/N), even though they were still neighbours, was when they ran into each other in the hall or if they just so happened to leave for school at the same time, which these days was very rare. (Y/N) was quite the early riser, and was often already off on her way while Luke was still lying in bed half asleep. Though they had two classes together, they hardly spoke to each other. It was as if their friendship before this had meant nothing.
Sometimes Luke missed the old days. Back then, (Y/N) didn’t seem too different from him. He could still remember them sitting in his treehouse, sharing gummy bears and listening to an old Led Zeppelin album. Now all she ever seemed interested in was studying. But even despite their different paths, they talked to each other from time to time. Their parents, on the other hand, were still very close. Occasionally they met at one of their homes, cooked together, talked about their jobs and even more so about their kids. Luke had learned from his parents that (Y/N) planned to go to Harvard once they graduated. Of course, when they told him that, he couldn’t stop himself from rolling his eyes. He knew his parents wished he had the same or at least similar plans for his life. But Sunset Curve was finally starting to take off. After they played their first gig at a small bar in L. A., more and more bars and clubs were willing to let them perform. Luke had loved rehearsals before, now they were even more fun, especially knowing that they’d get to perform their new songs in front of more people than just Bobby’s parents. Bobby became a part of the band when he moved to L. A. four years after they had formed. With Bobby’s arrival the band not only found a rhythm guitarist, but also a place to rehearse. Before that, they had to rehearse in Reggie’s basement, between boxes and useless junk. Then of course his parents constantly fighting upstairs didn’t make for the best working environment.
Whenever Luke fought with his parents and just needed space to clear his head, there was no better place for him than a small shed in Bobby’s backyard which they had affectionately dubbed their studio. The words from his parents still rang in his ears as he pulled out his bike, guitar case slung over his back.
“Why can’t you be more like (Y/N)?! She has good grades and a bright future at Harvard!” His mother had wailed.
“Being a rockstar is not a realistic goal, it won’t bring you any money or stability.” His father tried to convince him.
Every time it was always the same. Luke jumped onto his bike and made his way through the backyard towards the gate, when he stopped in his tracks. In the corner of his eyes he could make out a dark figure, running through the yard next to his. At the end of the driveway, he could make out the lights of a car, shining through the trees and the figure running towards it. When the figure finally came into the light, Luke could finally see who it was. She turned around, taking one last look at the house behind her before she opened the car door and got in before promptly speeding off into the darkness. Who did (Y/N) just leave with?
--
Luke was tired the next morning. Despite spending the night in the studio, far away from the trouble with his parents, the young guitarist hadn’t slept a wink. His mind was racing with thoughts of (Y/N) and the mysterious person she had left with. During their lunch break at school, he told his band members of the encounter. “Wait, you mean to tell us that (Y/N), the definition of the perfect daughter, snuck out?” Bobby asked in disbelief.
Luke nodded. “Yep, got into a car with someone. Can’t say for certain who it was.” The eyes of the four guys wandered to said girl, who was sitting with her friends at a table not far away from their own.
“I’ll dip into the school gossip and see what I can find out. I’ll deliver the goods.” Alex smirked. And deliver he did at their band practice later that day. “So you know Tori, the girl who sits next to me in chem class and never shuts up? She told me that she heard from one of her friends, who was told by one of his friends that (Y/N) was spotted with Brandon Jones in the back of the library.”
“Brandon Jones?” Luke asked with a raised eyebrow.
Alex nodded “Yeah, the captain of the football team who always drives a really expensive car.”
“How do they even know each other? Isn’t he usually on the brink of suspension?” Reggie asked curiously to which Alex shrugged.
“Well, well, well, seems like your little (Y/N) likes bad boys, Luke.” Bobby laughed, while throwing an arm around Luke’s shoulders.
Luke quickly shrugged it off with a grimace. “She’s not my (Y/N).” He snapped. “It just surprises me that she sneaks out to meet him. That doesn’t sound like her.”
“Yeah, ‘cause you know her so well after barely talking to her for years and only making eyes at her from afar.” Bobby countered.
“I’m not making eyes at her!” The guitarist defended himself much too quickly to be believable. Back in the day when he still was friends with (Y/N), he may have had the tiniest of crushes on her. Luke had to admit that (Y/N) was indeed very beautiful, but he most certainly wasn’t making eyes at her as Bobby had suggested.
--
A few days passed. Luke sped through the house looking for his jacket so he could get going to band practice, which he was already running late for. “Mom, Dad. I’m going to Bobby’s” He shouted through the house, hoping his parents had heard him. Finally finding his jacket under his bed, he shrugged it on as he made his way through the kitchen.
He was about to open the back door, when his mom appeared behind him. “Don’t you have a french test to study for? (Y/N)’s father told me about it.” Emily looked expectantly at her son, arms crossed over her chest.
Luke rolled his eyes and turned around. “Yeah, that’s why I’m going to Bobby’s. We’re gonna study together.” He lied convincingly.
Emily nodded slowly, a bit skeptical. “(Y/N) studies every night alone and gets good grades. Maybe if you would just concentrate more, you could study alone, too.” Emily suggested. Luke laughed silently. (Y/N) studying every night? That was rich, if only her parents really knew their daughter.
Luke mentally shook his head out. “Sure, but Bobby is better in french than I am. So he can help me. Work smarter not harder, isn’t that what they say?” He shrugged.
Emily looked at him thoughtfully. “You could study with (Y/N). She’s nearly fluent in French now.”
Luke nodded, a slight laugh escaping his lips as he opened the door. “I’ll think about it, alright? Now I really have to go!” He quickly said and made his way outside, slamming the door behind him. He couldn’t be late, after all Sunset Curve was playing another gig tonight. Luke took his bike from its spot against the fence and made his way towards the gate to the front yard when he suddenly saw a figure out of the corner of his eye again. Her hair was flowing in the wind as she quickly made her way through the darkened yard only this time instead of just watching, Luke went after her. Before (Y/N) could reach the car that was waiting for her behind the trees, Luke touched her shoulder. Startled, she let out a yelp of surprise as she spun around. “(Y/N)?”
“L-Luke...hey.” She laughed nervously.
“What are you doing out here?” He asked her confused, he was half expecting her to be up in her room studying like the perfect little princess she was.
(Y/N) clasped at his wrist and pulled him behind the trees, out of the sight of her house. “Don’t you dare tell my parents about this!” She hissed at the guitarist through gritted teeth.
Luke laughed. “What? That their little princess is sneaking out?”
“I’m not a princess!” She angrily countered.
Luke shook his head “Nah, you’re right, you’re clearly the living definition of a goody-two-shoes. Such a good girl, eager to please.”
(Y/N) rolled her eyes “You clearly forget everything you thought about good girls.”
Luke furrowed his brows. “What do you mean?”
Suddenly a voice interrupted both of them “(Y/N) you’re coming?” Brandon Jones, cool as ever with a cigarette poised elegantly between his lips, sat in the car beside them, looking with raised eyebrows at the girl in front of Luke.
(Y/N)’s gaze wandered between the two boys “I gotta go.” She murmured as she opened the car door. But before getting inside she paused and turned to Luke again. “Good girls are bad girls that haven’t been caught.” She winked as she got into the car immediately rolling down the window. “Now be a good boy and just turn around and forget about this encounter, alright?”. With that, she sped off leaving the guitarist standing there dumbfounded. Luke shook his head in disbelief, what had just happened?
When he arrived at Bobby’s, (Y/N) words were still running laps through Luke’s head. He was quick to tell the rhythm guitarist about the encounter. “‘Good girls are bad girls that haven’t been caught’.” Bobby murmured.
Luke nodded. “That’s what she said. Sounds pretty rad don’t you think?” He looked at the other guitarist who nodded in agreement. “Yeah...” Suddenly it was extremely and rather awkwardly quiet. “Do you think that they-” Luke started.
“Are seeing each other?” Bobby finished his friend’s question, the lead guitarist nodding in confirmation. “Would it matter?”
Luke shrugged. “I mean, I just don’t want her to see her being pressured into something she doesn’t want to.”
Bobby laughed quietly. “OR you just don’t want her doing anything with Brandon.”
“Okay, I am definitely not jealous!” Luke countered, shaking his head.
“I never said you were, but now that you mention it…”
“Oh shut up...besides I’ve barely spoken to her in years!”
“But people don’t really change that much!” Bobby countered.
Luke huffed dramatically. “Well she did!”
“I don’t know about that, bro. Sneaking out? Doesn’t really sound like the (Y/N) we know from school.” He paused a moment. “The (Y/N) you knew when you were younger, the one you’ve told me about, that’s her down to the letter.” He shrugged as rose from his spot. “But enough about this. We’ve gotta go pick up Alex and Reggie. Otherwise we’re going to be late!” Luke quickly nodded, grabbing his guitar before following Bobby outside.
The club was completely packed with people. Luke could hear the audience’s chattering from backstage. “This is so cool!” Reggie excitedly said after taking a look through the club. “There are so many people here from school, too!”
Luke took a deep breath. Adrenaline was starting to course through his veins. He could practically hear his heart beating in his chest as the band made their way onto the stage. He blinked a few times as he tried to get used to the spotlights. His gaze drifted down through the crowd in front of them as they quickly set themselves up. Suddenly he stopped. At the back, right next to the bar, there she was standing. Their eyes met and a small smile played around her lips. Luke laughed to himself quietly before taking a step closer to the mic. “We’re Sunset Curve!”
After their gig, Luke made his way through the crowd. Everytime someone patted his shoulder to tell him how good they were, she nodded thankfully but his eyes always stayed fixated on (Y/N). When he finally stood in front of her a giggle left her lips “Good show, Patterson.”
He smirked, leaning against the bar. “Thanks.”
“Just like we imagined when we were kids.” She slightly bumped against his shoulder.
The guitarist felt his heart beat faster at this. Nervously he rubbed the back of his neck. “I guess.”
“So that’s what you’ve been up to all this time...?” She quietly asked, her gaze drifting through the crowd. Luke nodded in reply. “And soon you’re gonna be famous!” She smiled suddenly much more excited.
Luke laughed “I think that’s still a long way off. What about you? What’ve you been up to?” He asked her curiously.
“Oh, you know violin and ballet lessons, the usual. I haven’t told my parents yet that I’m sick of it!” She nonchalantly took a sip from her coke and looked at him.
Luke furrowed his brows, he was genuinely confused. “I thought that’s what you liked? I mean you got your violin around the same time I got my guitar.”
(Y/N) shook her head “I practically begged my parents to get me an electric bass so we could form a band but they got me a violin. Said it would be better for me.”
Luke was surprised at those words. “A band?” He saw (Y/N)’s cheeks taking on a pink shade.
She shrugged. “Like Led Zeppelin.” Suddenly ‘Whole Lotta Love’ started to blast through the speakers of the club. (Y/N) laughed “That’s creepy. Like they’ve been listening to us talk about it.”
But Luke barely listened to her. Instead he had been transported back to 1987. He had just found the old Led Zeppelin EP in one of his dad’s boxes he kept into the attic. He had immediately called (Y/N) to meet him in the treehouse. They had been listening to the songs when suddenly (Y/N) had told him about her best female friend (Y/F/N), who had told her that she had kissed Fynn, a boy from their class. “Like a real kiss? On their lips?” Luke had asked with wide eyes. He, of course, had asked her if she ever had kissed a boy on the lips. (Y/N) had admitted that she had never. In her childish recklessness, or could it be her boldness, she had told him that he was the only one who she would have wanted to kiss. Luke remembered how nervous he had been, when (Y/N) had leaned in, ‘Whole Lotta Love’ playing in the background when their lips touched but for a short second.
Luke looked wide-eyed at the girl in front of him, who didn’t know the memory that was playing in his head at the moment. His gaze fell from her eyes to her lips. Maybe Bobby had been right. Maybe (Y/N) hadn’t really changed that much and maybe he still had those feelings he had for her when he was smaller. He quickly shook his head. He couldn’t have those thoughts. (Y/N) was here with someone else. “So where’s your shadow?” He asked, referring to Brandon. He turned to the bar to order a coke.
She sighed “Having a smoke.”
“Already missing him?” He laughed.
(Y/N) huffed, slightly annoyed. “Yeah, sure.”
“I thought you were a thing?” Luke asked, turning to her again.
(Y/N) furrowed her brows “Who told you that?”
“Nobody. I just thought because you always sneak out to meet him and because you’re here together…?” He shrugged.
(Y/N) laughed. “No, I mean it’s fun to hang out but I would never...I mean...he’s a player and only plays with girls.”
Luke looked at her amused. “So you’re just hanging out with him for the sake of hanging out?” (Y/N) nodded.
“I was just tired of everything. Of my life. It seemed like a good escape, you know? But now...it’s really hard to make it clear to him that nothing will ever happen.”
“Just be careful, alright? I don’t think he’ll let you get off the hook so easy.”
(Y/N) shook her head “Soon he’ll get tired of me and look for someone else.”
“And what about you then?”
(Y/N) took a deep breath and turned to him, something obviously weighing heavily on her mind. “Luke, I-” She started, but before she could finish her sentence they were interrupted as an arm found his way around (Y/N) shoulder.
“I’m back.” Brandon smirked, eying Luke suspiciously.
“Hey Brandon.” Luke smirked, annoyance evident in his gaze, before turning to (Y/N) again. “It was nice catching up, (Y/N). See ya around.” With that he made his way through the crowd, trying to stop himself from thinking about (Y/N).
--
Days passed. Once again, Luke barely saw (Y/N) apart from their classes. He was sitting in his room, writing down the lyrics to a song that had been stuck in his mind for days, when suddenly the doorbell rang. He ran down the hall of the family’s ranch style home and was met with her beautiful eyes, when he opened the door. “(Y/N)! So good to see you!” Emily greeted with a big smile, appearing behind Luke. “Come on in.” Luke stepped aside to let the girl inside. With a questioning glance, he looked to his mother. “I called (Y/N)’s parents to ask if she could help you in french. I think that would be better than having to go all the way to Bobby’s, right?”
Luke nodded slowly “Uhm, yeah. Sounds good. Uhm, we could go into my room?” He suggested, looking at Emily.
His mother nodded “Yes, but leave the door open. I’ll bring you some snacks.”
Luke nodded in agreement and turned to (Y/N). “Shall we?” (Y/N) nodded in reply and followed him down the hall to his bedroom. “Take a seat, I guess.” He pointed to the chair in front of his desk as he took a seat on the bed. “What are you doing here?”
“Helping you in french.” She laughed.
Luke nodded slowly, a sly, teasing smirk appearing on his face. “And, uh, is Brandon alright with you hanging out with me?”
“Who cares?” (Y/N) rolled her eyes at the mention of his name. “Right after your concert I told him I couldn’t see him anymore.”
Luke furrowed his brows. “Why?”
“As I already told you, at first it was just an escape but...he wanted to do more the entire time and I just didn’t want to...at least not with him.” She laughed.
Luke looked at her, a playful glint in his eye. “Not with him, huh? So someone else has caught your eye then?” he laughed.
(Y/N) shrugged, casting her glance downward. “Maybe. But that won’t happen, so…”
“Why not?”
(Y/N) sighed, nervously keeping her gaze trained to the ground, before looking up at him again. “Luke...you see...I know we haven’t had that much contact over the last few years, but...I wish it was different and I’m sorry. I thought...well I had hoped...“ She paused, inhaling deeply. “Maybe we could start over? Being friends again?” She asked, hope evident in her voice.
Suddenly Luke felt his heartbeat just a tiny bit faster. “Friends?” He croaked, before clearing his throat. “You mean like back in the day?”
(Y/N) nodded. “Yeah, and uhm maybe…” She nervously played with the necklace around her neck. Luke’s eyes drifted to the pendant. It was the necklace he had given her when she had turned seven. Inside it he had put a picture of the both of them. (Y/N) eyes softened when she saw what Luke was looking at. She took the chain from around her neck and slowly took his hand, placing it in his palm. She looked expectantly at it before looking up at him. Luke opened it and found himself looking at his and (Y/N)’s younger selves. In the picture he had his arm slung around her shoulders. Both of them were smiling brightly.
Luke sighed as he smiled at the memory of that day. “I had a little crush on you back then.” He admitted quietly, staring at the toothy grin of her younger version.
“You did?” (Y/N) asked.
He nodded, his eyes never leaving the picture. “I was so sad when we stopped talking, but it...it had just happened, right?”
“I wish it hadn’t...I uh...I had a crush on you, too.” she murmured.
Luke laughed quietly, the pieces of the puzzle slowly falling into place. “So if we want to go back to how it was then…”
“You would have a crush on me?” (Y/N) smiled hopefully.
Luke shrugged. “Maybe I still do.” He felt his cheeks heating up as (Y/N) clasped at his hands.
“Maybe I still have a crush on you, too.”
Luke’s heart felt like it was going to beat out of his chest. His eyes met (Y/N)’s and he couldn’t stop his smile from growing wider if that was even possible. “Just maybe?” He asked cheekily, as he slowly leaned in closer.
“Alright, so definitely.” (Y/N) giggled as their lips connected in a tender kiss.
--
“Please, you have to come!” Luke whispered into the phone in the kitchen where the landline was. It was already dark inside the house, his parents already having turned in for the night.
“Okay, fine. But you tell my parents that you have a good influence on me the next time they see us.” She laughed through the speaker, before hanging up.
They met behind the trees at the back of their yards. He leaned in to greet her with a short kiss. “I missed you.” He murmured, hiding his face into her neck.
“We just saw each other a few hours ago.” (Y/N) laughed.
“That’s so long ago!” He countered as Luke got onto his bike and looked expectantly at (Y/N), who stood on the tire spokes behind him. “Hold on tight!”
The venue was filled with people dancing and chattering. (Y/N) followed Luke to the side of the stage. “Stay here so you’ll have a good view of the stage and that way I can see you, too.” He said, looking at her with a wide smile.
“Knock ‘Em dead, rockstar!” She beamed at him, leaning in to give him a good-luck kiss.
“Alright, enough of that lovebirds. We gotta go!” Bobby laughed, interrupting the cute moment pushing Luke toward the stage.
Reggie smiled at them. “Look at all the people! It’s gonna be sick!”
Alex shrugged nervously. “I hope they like us...”
(Y/N) smiled at the other band members “You’re gonna rock this, I’m sure of it!” She hugged them and wished them good luck, before the band went onto the stage.
Luke’s gaze immediately fell to his girlfriend, who gave him a thumbs-up. He winked at her before getting closer to the mic. “Hey, we’re Sunset Curve, thank you for having us.” The crowd erupted in cheers. “Thank you.” He laughed “We directly wanna start with a new song. It’s inspired by a person who means the world to me.” His gaze fell to (Y/N) again, who was smiling at him. “It’s called Good Girls/Bad Girls.”
“She said to me forget what you’ve thought, cause good girls are bad girls that haven’t been caught.”

Shaun's First Playful Tickle Attack
Shaun had been accidentally taught that tickling was done when he did something wrong. So when Dr. Melendez suggests that Shaun should be tickled for fun, Shaun is surprised.
This fanfic has been on the back burner for a while. I hope you enjoy it!
Tickling had always been a somewhat confusing thing to Shaun. Steve used to get tickled by their mother a couple times, but she rarely ever did it to him, fearing it may cause him to freak out. The truth was, his mom wasn't really wrong. Thinking back on it now, he probably would've freaked out. But that's only because he'd barely been tickled enough to understand the feeling before his teen years. Steve attempted to tickle him once, but that ended in Shaun falling off the bed and hitting his elbow.
Then, Dr. Glassman came into his life.
Well, more like he came into Dr. Glassman's life.
About a week after taking Shaun in, Dr. Glassman was trying to explain how inconvenient and annoying leaving the plate on the table was. Unfortunately, Dr. Glassman had raised his voice to a louder volume, and this caused Shaun to burst out crying and run out of the room and far away from the man. Eventually, Dr. Glassman realized that Shaun is very sensitive to yelling of any kind.
So, he tried taking things away. But Shaun didn’t really understand that ‘taking something away = punishment’. Eventually though, Shaun realized what it meant and HATED it. He wouldn’t sleep with the item taken away, and he quickly antsy and all over the place. But everything finally clicked together the day Dr. Glassman gave the item back. He started sleeping better, he grew less agitated, and he talked a lot more.
Since taking anything away only seemed to make matters worse, he had to come up with something different.
And then he remembered his daughter. His daughter was definitely a special one, who learned how to use tickling on him whenever she disagreed with a rule or wanted to rebel. So the moment Dr. Glassman used tickling to get Shaun to go to bed, he felt like he had hit the jackpot! And the greatest part? He reacted positively to it! He quickly began to use tickling as a method of discipline. Whenever Shaun tried to lie or refused to do anything, Dr. Glassman would tickle him in order to change his mindset and encourage this new rule. In the long run, this was a lot more successful than he expected. And even though some people found tickling to be questionable and controversial in Shaun’s case, Dr. Glassman would proudly say how well it worked in Shaun's case.
One day, Dr. Browne, Dr. Murphy, Dr. Reznick, Dr. Kalu and Dr. Melendez were attempting to help a girl that had cancer in her arm. Unfortunately, Shaun was being particularly annoying by interrupting the other doctors. After the third time of being interrupted, Dr. Melendez had enough. As soon as Shaun interrupted him again, He attempted to elbow Shaun in the arm, to shut him up. Unfortunately, he accidentally elbowed Shaun's ribs, and caused Shaun to jump and yelp in the middle of his words. Dr. Melendez immediately turned to him, surprised at his reaction.
Shaun's cheeks immediately turned red and he straightened up his posture.
"Okay. I'm done." Shaun said. Dr. Melendez eyed him up curiously, but went back to helping the patient.
After the entire ordeal, Shaun had gotten better at talking when no one else was. But that didn't stop Dr. Melendez from pulling him aside and asking him some questions.
"Are you okay?" Dr. Melendez asked.
Shaun nodded and fiddled with his fingers.
"Well...I appreciate that you immediately stopped after I elbowed you, but why did you stop? I see you as the kind of person who would do it no matter what I did." Dr. Melendez said. Shaun stopped fiddling with his fingers and looked towards Dr. Melendez's general direction.
"You tickled me for interrupting you. So I stopped." Shaun replied.
The conversation started to grow awkward.
“Did I?” Dr. Melendez asked. “Is that why you made that noise?”
Shaun started blushing all over again as he nodded.
“So...you stopped after I tickled you. Did I accidentally fluster you into stopping? Or is something else going on that I don’t know about?” Dr. Melendez asked.
Shaun looked in his general direction. “Why are you so insistent on knowing?” Shaun asked.
“Cause it was unusual. Usually people who are tickled for their actions, will continue it to get more tickles. Repeat, repeat.” Dr. Melendez explained.
Shaun showed him a confused, surprised face. “That’s never been my experience.”
Dr. Melendez started to realize what might’ve been going on. “You experienced tickling as a punishment...didn’t you?” Dr. Melendez asked him.
Shaun straightened up. “Yes. Whenever I didn’t do something, Dr. Glassman used to tickle me." Shaun explained.
"Oh…So, you've been hardwired to see tickling as a sort of disciplinary action?" Dr. Melendez asked.
"I'm a human, not a robot." Shaun corrected.
"Sorry, you were taught it’s a disciplinary action?" Dr. Melendez corrected himself.
Shaun nodded and smiled a little.
Dr. Melendez scratched the back of his head. "Oh. I'm sorry Shaun. I'll be honest: It was an accident. I tried to elbow your arm, not your rib." Dr. Melendez explained.
Shaun looked up towards Dr. Melendez's direction and nodded. "I forgive you." Shaun replied.
"But I just wanna say something." Dr. Melendez started, and sat down beside him. "Have you ever been tickled for fun?" Dr. Melendez asked.
"Yes. Steve tickled me to try and get some information from me, once." Shaun replied.
"That doesn't count.” Dr. Melendez said.
“Okay. My Mom didn’t like tickling me. She was scared I wouldn’t like it.” Shaun explained.
“Well…” Dr. Melendez cleared his throat. “Tickling is also supposed to be a fun thing." Dr. Melendez said. Shaun tilted his head to the side, like a curious puppy.
"Whenever my sister was sad, I'd tickle her to make her happy. And vice-versa. I would also tickle her when I haven't done it in ages and needed to see that side of her again." Dr. Melendez explained.
"Tickling has always been used to help me become independent and obedient. But I've only been tickled for fun a few times. It went wrong. Very wrong." Shaun said, looking down.
Dr. Melendez had made up his mind right then and there. He got up, walked around and started closing all the window blinds. Then he sat down beside Shaun again. He had a good idea planned.
Dr. Melendez went around and made sure to close some windows and the main door to offer Shaun some privacy. "Do you wanna experience it now?" Dr. Melendez asked. Shaun looked towards Dr. Melendez's general direction, and nodded.
Suddenly, Dr. Melendez pounced on him. Shaun yelped and looked around. “I feel nervous!”
“I know! That’s a good thing in this situation!” Dr. Melendez said as he pinned down Shaun's wrists with one hand above Shaun's head.
"Is...pinning down the opponent, an important part of this process?" Shaun asked.
"Yes. Yes it is. Now, where to start..." Dr. Melendez wondered out loud. He decided to try the sides, and he wasn't disappointed.
"Gahahahaha! Hehehe! Stahap!" Shaun asked through his laughter.
Shaun's laughter was more bubbily and higher pitched when he was tickled. Whenever he was just laughing at something, it was always silent and short.
Dr. Melendez experimented on different spots, and found out something incredible! His laughter changes drastically, depending on where he is tickled!
When his sides and ribs were tickled…
“EEEEHAHAHAHAHAHA! BAHHAHAHA!”
...His laughter was high pitched and loud. When he tickled Shaun's stomach or neck,
“Hehehehehehehe, tihihihihicklihihihihish!”
his laughter turned into adorable medium soft giggles. However, when Shaun was tickled on his feet...
Shaun went silent.
"You're not ticklish there?!" Dr. Melendez exclaimed, unable to sympathize.
"I'm not." Shaun replied.
Dr. Melendez shrugged his shoulders and moved on. He tried the armpits-
“aaaAAAAHAHAHA! NAHAT THERE! PLEHEHEHEHEHEASE!”
-Which caused Shaun to scream and squirm all over the place. Dr. Melendez stopped the moment Shaun told him no.
And lastly: he tried the back.
It was very uncommon for a person to be ticklish there, but Dr. Melendez's sister was ticklish there, making it common enough for him. As soon as Dr. Melendez drew a line up his back, Shaun squealed like a little girl, and his body flopped backwards onto the couch.
"Okay...I'm done now." Dr. Melendez concluded. Shaun laid on the couch, attempting to take in as much breath as possible.
"Tha...thank...you." Shaun said. Dr. Melendez turned around.
"For what?" Dr. Melendez asked. Shaun put his index finger up at him, to give him another minute to breath and pull himself together.
"For...For stopping...and for showing me...tickling can be fun." Shaun said slowly, between breaths. Dr. Melendez smiled in response. “It is fun. Just overwhelming.” Shaun told him.
“Alright. I’ll make sure to go a little easier on you next time.” Dr. Melendez promised.
Shaun nodded. “Okay. Can you do it again?” Shaun asked.
Dr. Melendez smiled and started laughing. “Really? You want me to tickle you again?” Dr. Melendez asked.
“Yes. It was fun. Please tickle me again!” Shaun took the doctor’s hand and held it up. “Please?”
Dr. Melendez smiled and wiggled them as his hand was held. Shaun showed off his toothy grin and giggled at the hand.
“I have butterflies in my tummy.” Shaun told him.
“I’m sure you do.” Dr. Melendez told him.
Shaun smiled as he got closer and closer. This was gonna be fun!
