it's august and i still couldn't love consistently

i chipped a molar and caught a cold the same day i met august in a poppy field. still a decoy, still a storm perpetually mistaken as the calm. she didn't impale me but didn't make me feel golden either, and the pewter sky only watched as she stroked my hair. a snake swallowed the sun last week, there's nothing much to do so i stayed in bed and injected poignant songs into my bloodstream. the next morning, an internet friend thanked me for existing. i would've told him i love him if my thoughts weren't filled with how much i hate the things i do lately. still, the sky ruptured and bellowed on. i tore my gums. i breathed the day away. had i known, i wouldn't seek love in cigarette butts if i knew it would only make me incapable of loving some things consistently.
