Irondad fic ideas #159
Fic set in a universe where they never reversed the snap. The world has been grieving for 8 years.
Suddenly, one of the snapped reappears, but it is not Peter Parker. It's someone else (maybe Strange, Wanda, Bucky...)
There's debate about what to do. The returned person doesn't seem to remember much, although it's possible they remember more than they're letting on. Should the remaining Avengers study them, interrogate them, let them live out a peaceful life and forget about everyone else?
The debate gets way more intense when Tony Stark finds out what's going on. They've tried to keep it from him, knowing how he'd react, and he definitely lives up to expectations.
Of course they need to find out everything this person knows. They need to bring their missing people back. They need to bring back his son.
How hard will Tony push to find out the truth? to bring his kid home?
Bonus:
At some point, the person admits that they were lying about their memories. They're here because they fell through a portal. They're from another universe.
Except... they genuinely didn't know Tony had a son? They've never heard of anyone called Peter Parker. And yes, their universe does have a Spider-Man. Their universe even has a May Parker -- she died recently, btw. And it was Spider-Man's fault.
This awful news, and the horror story Tony infers from it, makes him even more determined to rescue his kid. Once they learn how to reverse the snap, he's going to make sure he lives to protect Peter from bullshit like what this other Peter Parker had to go through.
Still, he's heartbroken for the version of his kid in this other universe. Before sending the universe hopper back to where they belong, he tells them all about Peter and asks them to find him, to keep him safe. He may or may not send some tech with videos for all of their memory-zapped loved ones too.

so this pertains to the “always you” fic. it’s one of my favorite fics of yours, just the perfect blend of angst and fluff, just absolutely amazing.
but.
but i cannot help but wonder what would happen if it never happened. like okay, imagine this: bucky never admits his feelings and never clears up the entire confusion and misunderstanding his girl has ab his and nat’s relationship. so, while he’s in love with her, and she’s his choice above everything else, and nat’s basically his baby sister, she doesn’t actually know any of that. so she’s still waddling in a mass of self-hate, hurt, heartbreak, yada yada yada.
then, on a mission, she gets the opportunity to bring nat back, but with a price- her life for nat’s. so, imagine everyone’s surprise and happiness when natasha returns, alive and well. and bucky is just beyond himself, bc now he got his lil sis and his best girl and he can finally heal. until he asks, “hey, where is y/n?”
and that’s when he realizes.
what do you think he would do? i like to think he would go mad, screaming out her name, falling to his knees, begging for her to return to him. letting out the most painful, gut-wrenching cry. his girl died thinking he didn’t love her or care ab her, and that will forever haunt bucky.
The only change I’m going to make here from the actual fic here: is that everyone is alive because of how I imagined this playing out.
Warnings: ANGST, Death, pure sadness, 0 happy ending, thought’s of suicide
Word count: 1.4k
Happy Alternative ending
You smiled one last time, remembering his beautiful blue eyes. You had a number of choices but your mind was made up as you pushed Nat through the portal to send her home, darkness quickly consuming you immediately after. All the internal pain you felt withered away along with your life, your final thoughts remembering the one person who made your heart feel whole. Who you loved with your entire being. Who didn’t love you back. Bucky didn't feel the same way about you but it didn't matter anymore. You just wanted him to be happy. You hated the way you felt. You were so in love with him, his adorable goofy grin, his dimple chin, his soft eyes, his warm hugs, his corny jokes from the 40's.  You hated that you would never compare to the person he missed the most. You weren’t as skilled. Not as Attractive. Not as charming. You just weren’t her. He’d been through so much pain and if one person would make him happier then...
*****
She was alive. She was healthy. She was back. Bucky’s heart fluttered, he finally felt complete. He had his baby sister, he had you. His sweet baby doll. He hadn’t told you before but he had to now, you had to know how in love he was with you. You’d always been there for him, holding him when he needed comfort or listening to him when he needed someone to talk to. He’d fallen for you a long time ago but he never had the courage to tell you. Until now. He couldn't wait any longer, he just wanted you to be his, it’d always been you.
"Where's y/n?" Bucky looked around the platform, but you were nowhere to be seen. The team looked at each other, their hearts sinking when Nat's eyes filled with tears, a sob escaping her lips.
"Nat?" Bucky looked down at her, before moving around the lab, confused, where could you have gone? You were supposed to come back. "Nat, where is she?"
Nat remained silent, chewing her lip, staring at the floor, the light leaving your eyes would haunt her forever. The feeling of your hands pushing her still lingering on her skin.
"W-where is she?" Bucky looked at her, the soft innocence in his eyes breaking her, how could she tell him the girl he loved with all his heart would never be coming back.
“I’m sorry”
“What do you mean?” Bucky swallowed thickly, panic rising in his chest, you were supposed to come back. “She didn’t come with you?” You were supposed to come back.
Nat shook her head, wrapping her arms around herself, she couldn’t bring herself to speak, she couldn’t even look at Bucky. He’d lost plenty of things in his life, but none like this. After all, you were the only girl he’d ever fallen for.
“I-I don’t understand” Bucky’s voice grew shaky; you were supposed to come back.  You were supposed to come back. You were supposed to come back. “Where is she? Bruce?”
His eyes pleaded with everyone around the room, waiting for someone to tell him you’d be back in a second, you’d be back through a different portal, you’d be back fucking tomorrow, just anything than the deafening silence he was receive.
“WHERE IS SHE?!”
“Buck...” Steve’s eyes welled with tears, shaking his head “She’s….” Why the fuck was Steve crying, why was everyone so quiet, why didn’t Nat look at him? No one was able to speak, frozen on the spot. It was a high risk mission and the chances were slim; they loved Nat, they really did, but if things had taken a turn, they hoped you’d pull through, accepting their friend’s death over losing you in the process.
“Steve?” Bucky’s chest heaved, hoping his friend would tell him you’re just going to take a little longer, this couldn’t end like this, he wouldn’t handle this, you had to come back. Steve took a step forward to hug his friend but Bucky stepped back shaking his head, no. You were coming back. You had to.
“No, I have to tell her, she has to come back, Bruce?”
Bruce sat in his chair in defeat, staring at his hands. If he could he would. He would have done anything to try and bring you back if it was possible.
“SOMEONE TELL ME SHE’S COMING BACK” Bucky couldn’t stand the sight of everyone looking at him, tears streaking their faces, how could you be gone, he had to tell you. He needed his baby to know how much he loved her, how could she die without knowing how much he adored her. The gut wrenching cry that escaped Bucky’s lips tore through the room as he collapsed to the floor, pained his screams were going to haunt the team forever.
Steve and Sam sat by his side, unable to process their own grief, along with the pain of seeing Bucky so broken.
*****
Bucky only slept in your room. He missed your voice, your hugs, your sweet scent, your smile. He missed your laugh, the way you’d play with his hair, the way your nose would scrunch when you laughed. He didn’t know what else to do, crying into your pillow every night, hoping the nightmare would end. But it didn’t .
He thought the pain wouldn’t get worse.
He was wrong. So fucking wrong.
He found your dairy.
Bucky had felt darkness but nothing like this before. The type where death called for him. The type where he wanted to sleep forever. The type where the cut of a knife would bring him peace and not pain.
His beautiful doll. His everything. The one girl who completed his heart didn’t know he loved her. She’d been in love with him and thought he never felt the same. She wrote the kindest things about him, only to finish her entries about how he’d never be hers because his heart belonged to someone else.
Bucky sobbed, tugging his hair; you died not knowing how much he loved you. You died thinking he loved someone else. You died feeling like you were hidden in the shadows when you were the light in his life. He never got to hug you and kiss you and tell you he loved you. He didn’t get to touch you, feel you and make love to you.
You died not knowing he always loved you.
He found a small box under your bed and his heart somehow broke more. He truly didn’t think he had any more tears left to cry, but he sobbed. His wails carried down the hall as he looked through the tiny thing’s you’d saved from things you’d done together; movie tickets, a candy wrapper from a chocolate bar you shared together, a cheesy valentine’s day card he gave you “as a joke” and many other knickknacks you’d collected as little reminders of time you spent with him.
The pained screams worsened.
Steve ran down the hall as FRIDAY sent out an alert of distress coming from your room. Bucky sat on the floor, surrounded by shards of glass, the mirror shattered, his hands grasping onto larger shards, droplets of blood staining the floor.
“Steve…I can’t anymore”
Steve remained silent, his heart racing, he didn’t know anything that would make Bucky better. Nothing would ease the pain.
“I can’t, I want my y/n Steve”
“I just want my y/n”
“She didn’t know I love her”
Bucky’s sobs reduced to whimpers, his body drained and exhausted.
“My girl. I want my girl”
5 years later
Bucky sat on the grass, his forehead resting on your headstone. A few years may have passed but the pain remained. Since you’d been gone, he’d hardly spoken to anyone aside from Steve and Sam. The closest thing he had to holding you was your named etched in ink on his chest, above his heart. His angel.
He picked up the pen and put it down a hundred times. He couldn’t bring himself to write it, to accept you were gone. To accept  you wouldn’t be coming back. But you deserved to know.  He never got to tell you. At least not yet. He placed the envelope on top of the flowers he brought you, sitting quietly as he thought about you.
My Angel,
I’m sorry I never told you that it was always you. You were my first and only love, you still are. You’re the only girl who’s ever given me butterflies. You’re the only one who’s ever left me speechless after just one hug. You’re the only one I wish I got to kiss just one last time. I just want to hold you. Just one last time.
You’re the only girl for me. My best girl. My doll.
I should have told you. I should have told you I fell in love with you. I should have told you, you were special. That you are the light of my life. That no one else mattered to me the way you did. I’ve never felt loss like this. I miss you everyday. No one will ever replace you.
I miss you sweet heart. My babygirl.
Till we meet again,
JBB

"Hey!” Peter exclaimed, helping Tony up from where he had been knocked onto the ground. “Holy cow! You would not believe what’s been going on. Remember when we were in space-”
As Tony stared at the young superhero in front of him, he felt his heart fall to his stomach and guilt course through his veins. What was supposed to be a heartwarming moment of reuniting for Tony was now plagued with the knowledge that he would soon have to tell Peter the truth and even worse- that this would be the last moment he would ever see his mentee so happy.
He tried to take in every second of it- to allow Peter to be as much of a happy-go-lucky teenager as he could be given the circumstances.
Every second would count.
As Peter rambled on about everything Tony had already known, analyzed and lived through, he could barely process anything Peter was saying, instead opening his arms for the boy, and pulling Peter into his chest.
“Oh.” Peter said, wrapping his arms around Tony. “This is… nice-”
“I’m so sorry, kid.”
At the sound of his mentor’s voice cracking as he held onto him tighter, Peter’s own heart began to race in his chest.
“Mr. Stark what’s wrong?” Peter asked, pulling away from him.
Tony continued to hold Peter at an arm’s length as Peter studied Tony’s expression- the inability for him to focus his bloodshot eyes on Peter’s, his trembling hands that squeezed his shoulders- Peter grew even more worried by the moment.
“It... it took a lot to bring everyone back, Parker.” Tony said. “It cost more than we thought.”
Suddenly it hit Peter what had been wrong- what he had been feeling so off about ever since he stepped through that portal.
The two of you had been inseparable before the blip- both off the field and on it. You both had saved each other’s lives more times than you could count, but what mattered most was that you made it out the other side every single time.
What mattered the most about anything in a life as dangerous and unpredictable as yours and Peter’s was making it out and he made sure you did so no matter what.
The two of you were interconnected in a way even you didn’t understand. His spider senses allowed him to save you from a mile away and your magical prowess kept him safe even when you couldn’t see him.
Now he realized... he didn’t feel you. Why wouldn’t he feel your sense of danger in a battle as vicious as this? Why wouldn’t you call out for him to make sure he was okay?
“Wait, Mr Stark,” Peter stopped him, shaking his head. “Where’s Y/n?”
That’s when Tony swore his heart had stopped beating and F.R.I.D.A.Y would be giving him an analysis any second now.
“She um...” Tony said biting his lip as he glanced from Peter’s worried face to the horizon. “She got better... a lot better... at her powers while you were gone. She just... she was too fast for Nat.”
“Mr. Stark,” Peter said, searching his mentor’s face as his lip trembled. “What are you saying?”
After Peter disappeared and the team came to him with the possibility of bringing everybody back, Tony had imagined what it would be like when he finally brought Peter home. That Tony would right his wrongs and finally give that poor kid a hug. That his neighborhood would cheer at Spider-Man’s return. And that...
And that you would finally get to hold the person you cared about most in the world in your arms once more.
Tony wasn’t usually a sucker for young love, but having to come home and tell you that Peter was dusted on his watch was one of the hardest things he ever had to do and he told himself that if he ever had the chance to make it right he would. He wanted so badly to make it right. He wanted so badly for good to triumph at the end of the day without you having to sacrifice yourself and your opportunity to ever see Peter again.
This time when Tony faced Peter, he met his eyes.
“She’s gone, kid.”
Despite the chaos, Peter felt as though the world had stopped around him.
He had just seen you a few hours ago... how could you be gone? How could... how could he never see you again?
"She can’t be gone.” Peter said, shaking his head adamantly. “You brought everyone else back! You brought me back, Mr. Stark! Just- just bring her back!”
Tony knew that Peter knew better. He knew that deep down the kid knew that it was truly the end but he couldn’t blame him for trying.
Tony felt sick. Peter was a kid. You were a kid. All of the bullshit- the fighting, the loss- the two of you didn’t deserve any of it and he couldn’t help but feel absolutely sick to his stomach knowing that he had been along for the ride.
“That’s not how it works, Peter.” Tony said somberly. “She’s gone... but she died so everyone else could come back. She did it to save the world. Now you, kid? You’ve gotta avenge her. You have to protect it.”
Despite the explosions setting off around him and the cries of those fallen, Peter listened to every single word that Tony said and took every syllable to heart.
When the time came to do what it took to protect the universe- to make your death worth it- every single word Tony had told him had come to mind and the answer was clearer than the memories of you replaying on a loop inside of his head.
Just when Thanos was about to snap his fingers, Peter shot a web at the titan’s gauntlet, tricking him into believing it was a play for the golden glove itself. When he pulled the web back to reveal the six infinity stones stuck inside, his breath caught in his throat.
Was he really ready to do this? Was he really ready to go?
As he looked at everything around him, the battle ensuing on every side, he thought about you- how you sacrificed yourself to save the universe, how you sacrificed yourself so that they would have a chance to win this thing.
He had to make it worth it.
No matter what.
Spinning a web around his hand, he looked up at Thanos and Mr. Stark one last time before taking a deep breath and slotting the infinity stones into the web on the back of his hand.
That pain shooting down his arm and throughout his body made tears prickle at his eyes and a shout escape his throat but Peter almost welcomed it.
Hearing the sound of his screams, Tony whipped around and by the time he had realized what was going on, it was too late.
“Wait, wait, wait-” Tony shouted, running towards him. “Don’t-”
Trying his hardest to put on a brave face, Peter lifted his hand and shrugged.
“Who woulda thought it’d be me saving the world, huh, Mr. Stark?”
And without a second thought, Peter snapped his fingers.

You Cheeky Slink
Bucky comes to you in the night to tell you about his latest google dive and maybe something more. Bucky x reader fluff. 1508 words. This is highkey self indulgent so get ready to read the fantasy thats been living in my head lately. Thanks :))
“Doll?”
Bucky stands at my door with just his head stuck into my room.
“Bucky, what are you doing? Where’s your shirt? You’re going to catch a cold wandering around with no clothes on,” I mumble from my pillow and plushie covered bed.
He smirks. He always does that smirk when he’s about to give some smartass response. That stupid lopsided smirk with he petal pink lips surrounded by the beard he’s been growing out. It’s kinda gangly but in a good way.
“Well, I guess I’ll have to come in then, so I don’t catch a cold in this freezing hallway. You know, you don't actually catch colds from being co-”
You had to stop the groan from falling past your lips. “Buck, love you and all, but now isn't the time to drop some of your newly found knowledge on me. It's...what time is it? Bucky, it is past midnight. Please tell me why you’re in my room at 12:38 a.m. talking about colds.”
Peter and I have been teaching Bucky how to use the internet and his phone, and We introduced him to Google a few days ago. Ever since then, he’s been catching himself up on most of what has happened in the last 70s years. It’s really heartwarming to see his interest in aerial technology and space exploration. We’re all glad that Bucky is adjusting well, but he’s been bombarding us all with random knowledge he’s found on the internet.
“Well, in all fairness, you were the one that invited me in, angel. I’m just doing what you said.” The smirk again. It’s too dark now that he's standing in my dark room, but I know the smirk. It bleeds into his voice. It makes him sound more...confident. Or cocky. “But dollface, we’ve explored more of space than we have the ocean. We don’t know what all is living in the deep parts of our ocean, but we know that you’ll get spaghettified if you go into a black hole. Some people think black holes are portals and some think they’re dying stars.”
“Wait, what? Buck, where are you getting your info?”
“Google, of course. Can I sit?”
“Sure.” The heavy weight of a giant man and his absurdly heavy metal arm rests on the corner of my bed. He almost seems hesitant to sit. I can immediately feel his warmth through the blanket. Despite me keeping my area freezing, Bucky always stays warm. “But Bucky, you went to a site to read these things. You used google but from there, what did you do?”
I can hear the wheels turning in his head. “Uh...the interesting looking ones?”
“You can’t believe everything you read on the internet, Buck. Anyone can put whatever they want out there. When you’re doing this research you’ve got to use reliable sources.”
“Reliable sources? Can I lean against the wall and stretch my legs?”
“Sure. Friday will help you with that, but Peter and I, and even Dr. Banner could help explain that to you in more detail tomorrow at a reasonable hour.”
Bucky shuffles his way across my bed to rest against the wall. He’s cautious of my legs as he makes his journey. It’s almost like he goes into assassin mode. Even though I know he’s moving, he tries his best not to disturb me.
“Well, did you know the footstep on the moon will likely stay there for at least 100 million years? There’s no wind on the moon, so it can’t be blown away. And did you know space is completely silent? There’s no air, so the sound waves have nothing to travel through so no sound.”
Bucky carries on with his space talk. Not long after we became friends, he shared that as a child he was interested in planes. He wanted to be a pilot growing up. That quickly became an awkward conversation. Now, Bucky is learning to fly with Sam, but once he learned our travels expanded into space, his dreams were out of this world. Bucky would start his google dives asking about some random thing, but without a doubt, he would end up on space exploration. Peter and I want to see how he’d do in a Wikipedia race. Peter thinks he would be amazing at it, but I know he’d get carried away and go down his own rabbit hole.
“Doll, Neptune has storms big enough to swallow the entire Earth! Can I get under the blankets?”
I hummed my approval and rolled over. Bucky’s voice is deep and raspy, and something about it can lull me to sleep. Usually I can’t sleep with any noise but Bucky is different. He could probably do audiobooks. Steve’s school videos and Bucky’s audiobooks. That’s quite a pair.
Bucky carries on with his space dump until I ask him. “Bucky, Russia got a satellite in space first. Sputnik. Would you have had anything to do about it? Idk. That might be a rough question but…”
He thinks, and he thinks hard. I can imagine his brows would come together, and he would bite at the right side of his lower lip. His Neptune blue eyes would move like he’s reading words off an invisible piece of paper laid before him. He would usually run his fingers through his hair, but Sam mentioned hair loss and that made Buck a little self conscious. I told him not to worry, but I’ll catch him catching himself.
“I’m not sure, angel. I don’t remember anything being about space, but maybe i just didn’t know it was about the space race. That is bizarre though. I was around when we made it to the moon, but I wasn’t. Can I get under the blankets?”
“Yeah, yeah.” Buck starts to talk again as he pulls the blankets over himself. He worms his legs undermine. “Bucky, get your popsicle legs off me. Go put those things on Steve.”
He lets out a small laugh before he continues his ted talk of everything. Bucky has been taken with space, but he’s interested in cooking too. He loves to sit and watch The Great British Bake-Off or MasterChef or Top Chef. It was quite sweet and funny when he tried to recreate one of the meat pies from season two of TGBBO. He was so confident, and his bottom was so soggy.
“We should grow a fruit salad tree. We’ve got to do something to a fruit tree, but we’d be able to make it grow up to 6 fruits! You could have peaches, Steve gets apples, Sam gets...I don’t know, and I get plums. We’d have to think of something for Pete. But imagine it, a huge fruit salad tree orchard behind the compound!”
“If it’s an orchard, why don’t we just plant a whole bunch of different trees?”
“Bragging rights. Can I lean on these pillows? I’m just gonna lean here.”
“Sure Buckbeak.”
“Hmph. Us having a fruit salad tree would be like the animals in Harry Potter.”
“Yeah?”
Bucky carries on, but his closeness and warmth are enough to lull me to sleep.
I woke up not too much later. Bucky has slowly made his way to fully laying between me and my pillow mountain. He’s pulled me in close to him and nuzzles his face into my neck. He somehow got his arms fully around me with my noticing. Our legs are intertwined, and thankfully, Bucky’s feet have warmed up. I can hear his heart beat in this position. Despite the torture and darkness he’s witness, his heart still beats like a young bird’s wings. His body and mind is old, but his heart is young. A young man from the 40s thrust into the 21st century. It is a cruel fate, but I know Bucky is strong enough to carry this burden. A heart is a heavy burden to carry.
I wake with the sun; a curious beam has made its way directly into my eyes. I go to grab a pillow to cover my face, but I seem to be in the death grip of a certain super soldier. I’m able to shimmy my way around to look at him. He looks at peace. Bucky always carries his anxieties and burdens, but in this moment, he looks youthful. He isn’t a super soldier who lost himself for 70 years. He isn’t a man who is widely hated and has to redeem himself. He isn’t a man with blood on his hands. He’s just Bucky; a great guy that will hold you when you cry or share a big bellied laugh with you.
“See something you like, dollface?”
“You slithered your slinky way into my bed.”
“No, no, no. You invited me in, so I wouldn't catch a cold. I just made myself not cold.”
“Oh yeah?”
“Yeah. You were obviously the best solution, cuddle bug. Your heart is so full of love and compassion that it’s gone hot.”
“You’re a big sap.”
“Only for my best girl.”

Princess of Asgard
Pairing: Bucky x reader
Warnings: dead parents, forced marriage, smut, breeding kink, kinda AU, pregnancy
Words: 3968
“None of you will be able to lift my hammer.” Thor said, smugly.
“Oh, we will see.” Tony challenged him.
One by one the gathered Avengers tried to lift Mjolnir but of course to no avail.
“Come on Y/N. Now you have to try too.” they tried to convince you.
“No, thanks. Why should I be able to if you can’t? I’d rather not get disappointed.” you sipped on your drink.
“Oh, boohoo. What a party pooper.” Nat yelled at you.
“Okay fine.” you got up from your seat on the couch, swaying a little as you went. Taking off your sweater you gripped the handle with both hands and pulled. You didn’t expect it to move but somehow it did.
Astonished, you stood in front of your friends wielding Thor’s hammer. Everyone’s jaws dropped to the ground.
“That is impossible.” Thor mumbled.
Creeped out by all of this and hoping, if you put it down nothing had ever happened, you let the weapon fall back onto the glass table, which made the fragile material burst.
“Oh, shit! I’m sorry.” you jumped backwards in surprised shock.
And then the questions came rushing out of everyone.
“How is that possible?” “Why you?” “Is it heavy?” “Do you feel different?” yadda yadda yadda.
Completely overwhelmed by all of that you just turned around and ran to your room. Hoping they would leave you alone and drop the topic.
“You fell forward onto your bed and buried your face in the cushions. You needed time to think. The questions the others had asked you were on your mind as well and you tried your best to answer them but that seemed pointless.
Sometime later you heard a knock on your door but you didn’t want to see anyone so you stayed silent, hoping they would go away.
“Y/N. I know you are in there. Please open. I need to have a talk with you.” So it was Thor. You still didn’t wanna see him.
“Friday, please open Y/N door. That would be very kind of you.” you heard your door lock click and rolled your eyes. Well, when he decided to be so rude you decided not to turn around.
You wriggled further into your sheets and didn’t notice your shirt had ridden up on your back. When Thor stepped closer he did notice.
“Y/N, what is this?” he asked but you couldn’t see because he was behind you so you turned to face him. “What is what?” you asked back, confused.
“The birthmark on your back.”
“Oh, that. Well, it’s a birthmark. Nothing more nothing less. Why are you behaving so strangely?” Now he scared you a bit.
“What is it Thor? Tell me.” you demanded.
Instead of talking he started to take off his dress shirt.
“Ehm, Thor what are you doing?” you wanted to know hesitantly.
When it was off you shortly admired his devine physique before he turned his back to you and you gasped. On his back right in the middle over his butt was the same birthmark you had located.
“How is that possible?” you gasped.
“I don’t know but I have a feeling who does. You have to come with me to Asgard. You need to meet my mother.” he stated.
“Ehm, okay. Can I put on some other clothes before though?”
“Of course. I will wait outside.”
You put on some jeans and a sweater because you didn’t know what weather to expect. You laced your shoes and grabbed your purse before heading out onto the hallway.
Waiting there for you were Thor and Loki, to your surprise.
“Eh, hi. Are you coming with us?”
“Of course. I want to know what this is all about.” Loki answered.
You had never used the bifrost before so you were excited and scared at once.
Thor raised Mjolnir and the bifrost opened, swallowing you all, while you clung to the blonde's side.
You arrived by falling out of some kind of portal. Heimdall was already waiting.
“The King and Queen are awaiting your presence in the throne room.” he said monotonously in that booming voice of his.
“Hold on tight.” Thor ordered you and you did just that before he flew you both to the castle. Leaving Loki behind to get there by foot.
“Mother! Father!” Thor greeted his parents when walking into the impressive throne room. You cowered behind him.
“I need you to meet someone and maybe you can shine light on the situation.” he continued.
“Son, it is good to have you back in Asgard. You have spent way too much time on Midgard recently. I missed you dearly. And where is your brother Loki?” Frigga asked.
“I’m here, mother. I cannot fly as you probably remember.” he remarked from the doorway.
“There you are. Very good. So what is this all about?”
“Well, this is Y/N. She is a friend from Midgard.” he explained then he turned to you. “Y/N, would you show our mother your birthmark?”
“Yes, okay.” you turned around and pulled your sweater up. A gasp went through the big hall and then silence followed. It was deafening.
You felt very exposed so you pulled the shirt back down and turned around again to face the King and Queen of Asgard.
No one was speaking. Everyone seemed lost in thought. But you couldn’t take it anymore.
“Okay, can someone please tell me what the bloody hell is going on here?” you screamed, regretting it almost instantly because you remembered who you were standing in front of.
“I’m sorry, just this silence is killing me. Why does Thor have the same mark as me? What does all of this mean?” you apologized.
Frigga got up from her throne and cae down to you. “Oh, my child. I will explain everything to you. Let’s take a walk through the gardens shall we?” how could you have said no to that proposal?
Outside she took your arm and hooked it into hers. You felt instantly comfortable with her.
“So this is a long story but you deserve to hear it.” she began. “Thor is not an only child. You know that Loki was adopted?” you nodded. “Good. Well Thor was actually a twin. And you are his sister.” That was a shock. Like how the hell..? You gawked at her.
“his sister was taken from Asgard when she was only 3 weeks old. We searched for her. Odin set heaven and earth in motion but we couldn't find her.. well you. But we never forgot you.'' She pulled an amulet out of her dress and opened it. Inside was a painting of a little baby. “That’s me?” you asked.
“Yes. I have never taken it off. Not in over 1000 years.” she had tears in her eyes.
“Wait, but how come I have been alive for that long but cannot remember it? I was adopted when I was approximately 6 weeks old and lived with that family until they died in a car crash 6 years ago.” you explained.
“You memories must have been altered by someone very powerful. Unfortunately I have no idea who could have done that and we will probably never know.” for her the situation was finished so you let it rest for now.
“So to sum this up: I am the long lost princess of Asgard? Thor’s twin sister? I have actually lived for over 1000 years? That’s what you want to tell me?”
“That is exactly true. But we will have time to answer all your questions later. Let’s get back inside and plan a feast in your honor.” she suggested, cheerfully.
“A feast? Like a party?” your eyes lit up. “Can I invite my friends from earth? I’m sure they would love to see Asgard.”
“Of course my dear. Anything for you.”
3 days later the festivities were planned, everything was decorated, guests were slowly arriving and the food was smelling delicious.
You were absolutely ready to meet everyone. Clad in finest Asgardian clothes and makeup done to perfection.
“You look marvelous my dear sister.” Thor complimented when you walked down the hallway.
“Thank you, brother. Man, it’s still crazy to say that out loud.” you smiled and took the arm he offered. You two entered the great hall together. All eyes were on you. The long lost princess of Asgard. Everyone wanted to take a look at you.
“They are all staring at me.” you whispered to Thor. “Of course they are. It’s pure admiration. They will love you no matter what.” he whispered back.
You breathed in deeply and smiled in the crowd.
Still nervous as hell you suddenly spotted Steve and Bucky at the bar.
“I’ll be back.” you murmured to Thor over the noise of the music and loosened your arm from his.
“Hey, guys. Thank you for coming. You look very nice.” you smiled at them.
“Thank you for inviting us, doll. It is overwhelming to finally see Asgard first hand. And you look amazing.” Bucky complimented you and kissed you on the cheek.
“I can only agree with Buck. The dress suits you very well. Would you like to dance?” Steve added.
“I would love to dance.” you took the invitation.
He led you to the dance floor, put his left hand on your hip and his right in your left. Your right hand found his shoulder. The music started anew and he began twirling you around. If you admired something, especially in Steve Rogers, was it his talent on the dance floor. You felt like you were floating. He had observed the Asgardians for a while and was now confident enough to follow the steps of their dances.
“You know Bucky likes you? Like really likes you?” he came directly to the point.
“Ehm, I don’t know. Does he? I mean he’s been flirty with me, sure. But other than that.. he never asked me out or anything.” you responded.
“Would you want to go out with him?”
“Yes. Of course. He’s great and I could really imagine something with him. But why are you talking with me about this?”
“Well, I think he is too scared of rejection to ask you out so you might have to ask him,” he clarified.
“Okay. Thanks for telling me, Steve. You’re a really good friend.” you smiled at him and kissed him on the cheek. When the song ended you bowed in front of Steve just like you had seen the other women do.
You decided to immediately go through with your plan and strolled over to Bucky.
But before you could reach him Frigga called for you.
“Sweetheart? Could you come over here for a second? I would like to introduce you to someone.” You sighed and walked over to her.
“Ah there you are my dear. Y/N this is my sister.”
“It’s an honor to meet you.” you responded as politely as you could.
“The pleasure is mine.” she bowed “I’m very sure you would like to be somewhere else right now.” she winked at you and you smiled shyly.
“Let the girl mingle Frigga. She is so new to all of this.” She talked to her sister.
“Oh sure. Off you go my dear Y/N. I will see you later.”
“Thank you, mother.” you nodded in thanks and turned back to go to Bucky.
Just when you were about to reach him Odin called everyone's attention.
“Good evening, everyone. We have gathered here tonight to officially welcome my daughter into her rightful home. Y/N come up here.” he demanded and of course you complied.
“She has finally come home so raise your glasses to the rightful princess of Asgard.”
Everyone toasted to you which made you blush profusely. You hated the attention. So many eyes on you. Hoping it would be quickly over you raised a glass which a nearby waiter had handed you.
The crowd seemed to expect a speech from you so you reluctantly opened your mouth to speak.
“Yes. Thank you father and I thank all of you for coming. The last few days have overwhelmed me greatly. A week ago I was an orphan on earth and now I am an Asgardian princess. I am so grateful for everyone who has supported me through every up and down in my life. And now I hope that you all have a wonderful night. Eat, drink and dance. Have fun. Cheers!” you raised your glass again and the people did the same. Then, fortunately for you, the attention shifted back to what they had been doing before.
You left the stage and pushed through the crowd in the direction you had last seen the brunette super soldier.
But he was not where you expected him to be.
“Na, have you seen Bucky?” you asked the redhead.
“I think he went outside for a walk, said it was getting too crowded in here.” she answered and kept dancing with whomever she could find.
The thanks you ushered her went unnoticed and you hushed past her.
The garden behind the palace was huge and like a labyrinth. You hiked up your dress and ran through the flower beets and bushes until you spotted him, sitting on the bench which had also become your favorite.
“There you are hiding.” startled he almost fell off the bench. “Oh my,” he grabbed his heart to mock a heart attack.
“I thought you had super soldier hearing.” you mocked him.
“Well, yes. But not when I am in thought.”
“What were you so lost in that you didn’t hear me from a mile away?”
“Ehm, I was thinking about you, actually.” he blushed. You had never seen Bucky Barnes blush before.
“Really. Only good things I hope.” you winked at him. “Can I sit?”
he motioned for you to take your place next to him.
“Bucky? I have thought a lot about you recently, too. Do you wanna go on a date with me when we are back on earth?” it just bubbled out of you.
“You are coming back to earth? I thought you were gonna stay here? This being your new home and all.” he looked down to his feet.
“Oh hell no. I mean it’s nice here and all and I would love to visit once in a while but earth and New York is my home. I will never feel fully settled here in Asgard. Plus you are in New York and that is all the home I need.” you leaned over and snuggled into his side. He put his left arm around you and you had never felt so safe before.
“Then back to your question: of course I am taking you on a date back on earth or any other planet you wanna go from here. I will follow you to the ends of the universe.” you felt extremely loved in that moment.
So you leaned up and kissed him on his full lips.
6 months later and you had found a rhythm together as the perfect couple. You were still as much in love as you had been the day back on Asgard.
But that was about to change.
“Y/N. Mother wishes to talk to you. Now.” Thor emphasized.
“Now? I am busy. If she wants something from me she can come down here.” you talked back.
“Oh, trust me sister, you don’t want that. You better do as she wants or there will be consequences.” he looked actually scared.
“Fine! Let's go!” you groaned.
“Mother. What is so important that you needed to see me so urgently?” you asked while strolling into the throne room.
“My dear Y/N. Come closer and sit.” she ordered.
You sat on a chair in front of her and she immediately got to the point.
“Your father and I have found a suitable husband for you. This union will bless Asgard with a strong ally.” She looked pleased with herself.
“Excuse me? What? A husband? I am old enough to find one for myself and I am sure I already have.” you retorted.
“There is no discussion princess. This is not a question of whether you want this or not. It is already settled. Your father is in Vanaheim right now securing the deal. Next summer you will marry the eldest prince.”
“UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES AM I MARRYING SOMEONE I DON’T KNOW OR DON’T CARE ABOUT!!!!! FORGET IT!!! BASTA! I’m leaving now before I do something I will regret.” you yelled at her and stormed off. Through the bifrost and back home.
When you stormed through your and Bucky’s shared apartment doors he knew that something was up.
“Y/N, doll, what’s wrong?” he asked and put a hand reassuringly on your shoulder.
“They want to marry me off to some prince!! Like I am some piece of meat!! Who do they think they are??” you were still so angry.
“They what?? They can’t do that. Did you tell him you had a boyfriend on earth?”
“Duh, of course I did. They don’t care! I feel like I am living in the middle ages right now!”
“This is fucked up! And if we get married right now?”
“Was that a proposal, Sergeant Barnes?”
“Ehm, maybe? Depends on your answer.”
“Of course I would marry you right on the spot but I think that an earth marriage doesn’t count in Asgard.” you said disappointed.
After some minutes in silence he broke it by asking “Then I only see one way out of this. What is a thing that a man can rarely accept when marrying a woman?”
“I don’t know. Do enlighten me.”
“Well, when she is pregnant by someone else.”
Your jaw dropped to the ground. But then you thought it over and you had wanted a family with Bucky anyways so why not now?
“That sounds actually reasonable. You wanna start trying right now?” you winked at him seductively and started opening the buttons on his shirt.
“Who am I to say no to that?” he lunged over and kissed you desperately.
It didn’t take long for you to be rolling naked on the bed. Never breaking the kiss he groped for your breasts because he knew how much that got you running. One hand warm, one cold. The contrast was exhilarating when they wandered down your naked body, over your hips and to your pussy. Spreading your lower lips. “Fuck I know how you I get you wet, don’t I?” he asked rhetorically. You just moaned and spread your legs wider for him.
“Good girl. I would love to eat you out until you can’t take it anymore.” you shuddered at his confession because you knew how good he was with his tongue. “But we have a goal here and I want to keep you as full as possible for as long as possible. You want that, baby? Me keeping you full of cum for days?” his dirty talk turned you on to no end.
“Hmm, fuck yes.” he took that as a go and plunged his dick inside your tight channel.
His movements were slow but precise. He knew how to hit your special spots and make you see stars.
Higher and higher you flew, throwing your head back in pleasure and moaning his name. “Fuck Bucky, harder!” you begged him and he complied. His hip bones left marks on yours and the bed creaked dangerously.
A few thrusts later and you were coming hard, spasming around his throbbing length. “Fuck baby squeezing me so tight. Gonna come!” he groaned, pushed really deep and let go. You shuddered when you felt his release coat your walls for the first time. You had only done it with a condom before so this was new but not bad at all.
“Shit. I thought our sex had been good before but now… wow amazing. I won’t let you out of this bed until you are pregnant. That is for sure.” he laughed.
Well 2 months later and you had succeeded. You were pregnant. No one knew yet but you were about to tell Thor so he could tell your parents.
“Thor, wait up. Could you bring Mother and Father a message from me?”
“Why don’t you come with me and tell them yourself?” he asked.
“Because I don’t know what travelling through the bifrost will do to my baby.” you let out.
“Your baby?” his eyes went wide. “You are pregnant?” he smiled. “I’m gonna be an uncle?” he hugged you tightly and then he realized what that meant. “Oh, Mother and Father won’t be pleased to hear that. You won’t be able to marry the prince now.”
“That was the intention behind it.” you smirked.
“Oh, makes sense. I understand. And although I really don’t want to be the one to bring the news I will because I love you, sister. I’ll be on my way then.”
“Thank you Thor. I love you too.” You stepped back and he summoned the bifrost.
For 4 days you didn’t hear anything from them. Nor did you see Thor. You were seriously scared that they had murdered the messenger.
Then something incredible happened. Your Mother suddenly stood in front of you.
“Hello, my dear.” She greeted you.
“Hello, Mother. You have come down to earth.
“Of course. I want to meet that man of yours. If he is important enough for you to neglect your duties as princess of Asgard, he must be otherworldly.”
“Ehm, okay. Sure. He is the love of my life and I wouldn’t exchange him for the world. Follow me. I will try to find him.” you walked into the compound.
“Friday. Where is Bucky right now?” you asked the AI.
“He is in the garden by the trees.” she informed you.
“Thank you, Friday.”
“What was that? Is that magic?” Frigga asked.
You laughed “No, not magic. Just technology.” You walked out into the garden and toward the treeline.
“Bucky? My mother is here to meet you.” you yelled. It sounded like happy information but it was more of a warning. If he wasn’t ready he could vanish or hide.
But he came around a tree. “Hello love. Oh, your majesty. Nice to meet you.” he bowed down.
“Oh no need for that formality. I am just here to see who stole my daughter's heart. And I can already see why you hold hers.``Then she turned to you “He’s a handsome one, isn’t he? I like him. He suits you.”
She addressed both of you again: “I honestly hope you two will be happy together for the rest of your lifes. Your father and I have talked and we give you our blessing. It was rude of us to assume that we were allowed to intervene in the life of a daughter we have not raised in our beliefs and spirit. We love you too much to lose you again so soon after a stupid argument. We will find a way to come to terms with Vanaheim differently.” she opened her arms and you hugged her closely.
“Thank you mother. You don’t know how much that means to me… to us.” you almost cried in relief.
“But we do have one condition.” your stomach dropped in fear.
“When the little prince or princess is born you come and visit us regularly.”
A weight was lifted off your shoulders and you agreed to her terms.
You were so relieved that everything went this way and you didn’t have to force your way out of this. In the end everything went the way you had hoped it would.

You open one eye and look at Wanda sitting next to your bed.
“You should go help.” You say softly, but you cough violently right after.
“The battle is over. After you closed the portal, it got easier. All things considered.” Wanda stands up going to you. “Now go back to sleep, you need to rest. You almost died.”
“Please.” You dismiss her with your hand. “I almost die a lot.”
She chuckles at your response, but you agree with your head, because you are feeling tired anyway, and slowly you let yourself fall back to sleep.
When you wake up again, it doesn’t feel like much time has passed, but Wanda is nowhere to be found. You sit up on the bed, looking around. You get a glimpse of yourself in the window and your eyes widen. Wow, you look a lot worse than how you feel. You look like you’ve been in the middle of an explosion. Oh, wait. Did you really go to outer space? On the list of your life’s bad decisions, this is definitely number one, easy.
“Hey!” You hear, and turn to the door to see Wanda there. “You up. How are you feeling?”
“A lot better than how I’m looking.” You say, making her smile softly at you.
“Stark sent this for you.” She shows you a box of donuts and your mouth drops, almost comically. “He said if you didn’t like donuts, you were probably insane.”
“Well, donuts happen to be my favorite food, so-” You raise your arms, and she gives you the box. “Come on, let’s share.”
You open the box and find a little sticky note there, with a scribbled handwriting
Donuts are for geniuses who save the world - Mr. Playboy
You smile, ripping it off the box and shoving in your pocket. Wanda sits next to you, and you smile at her, before diving in for the food.
“So, is everyone ok?”
“Yeah, pretty beaten down and tired, but we won.” She shrugs, and you agree with your head. It feels good to hear this. We won. You’re a part of it, and she wants to make sure you know that. “Well, we couldn’t possibly have done it without you.”
“Oh please. Mister Thor could have gone to space, or I don’t know, anyone else?” You shuffle in bed uncomfortable. “It’s not like I can actually breathe in outer space.”
“Wait, what?” Wanda’s brows are pinched together at the sound of that. “And you went anyways?”
“Well, we needed to close the portal.”
“Thor could have gone. Do you realize you could have died?” She looks shocked by the revelation and you smile.
“Yeah, but it was either me or millions of people back on Earth.” You shrug, then push her with your shoulder. “Besides, I didn’t, right?”
“You’re a superhero alright.” Wanda says making your smile open wider. That sounds good. Really good. “You know the fight is over, right?” She asks and you agree with your head, mouth full of donuts. “Strange can send you home.”
“Oh.” You look at her, cleaning the corner of your mouth with the back of your hand. “Yeah. That’s great.”
“Wait.” Wanda leaves your room, but comes back a minute later with a polaroid camera. “So I don’t think I’ve imagined you.”
“Oh, you totally did.” You smile, looking at her, sitting in bed next to you. “I’m pretty sure we’re all in a very elaborated dream caused by an imp from the fifth dimension.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” She says, and you shrug, throwing your arm around her shoulder and making a funny face.
“Take two.” You ask and she agrees, taking another one, where the both of you are smiling.
“I don’t mean to interrupt the fun.” Vision appears in your bedroom, coming from a wall, and you jump in bed from the scare.
“Vis! We talked about this. The door is right there!” Wanda points at it, and you laugh.
“Oh come on, if you could phase into a room, I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t use a door.” You tell her and Vision agrees with his head.
“It’s not exactly phasing, I’m just manipulating my density so I can become intangible.” He corrects, and you and Wanda look at each other holding a laugh. “Well, I came to offer you my services.”
“How come?”
“You are looking, if you allow me to say-” He asks and you nod so he goes on. “Rather beat up. I was thinking I could use the solar energy on you, to help your recovery.”
“That would be really helpful, in fact.” You say with a smile, and he agrees, getting ready to shoot you with it.
It all happens too fast. One second Vision is shooting you with solar energy, next second a portal is opening up in the bedroom, and the very next Supergirl is throwing herself on him, yelling:
“GET AWAY FROM MY KID!”
It’s so fast, it takes you a few more seconds to acknowledge the whole scene going on before you.
“Vision, don’t engage.” You ask, standing up. And you look at Wanda. “Wanda, stop her!”
“Stop me?” Kara yells in shock and Wanda quickly separates your momma from Vision with her powers. She involves your momma with it, making it impossible for Kara to move.
“What are you doing?” You ask Kara, who just looks at you so in shock like she doesn’t know what to say.
“He-He was shooting you with a… With that thing on his head!” Kara justifies herself and looks at Wanda on the other side of the room. “And she’s doing whatever this is.”
“He was helping me!” You look at Wanda again, giving her a little nod. “She’s going to put you down if you promise not to engage again.”
“I-I’m-Ugh! Fine!” Kara reluctantly agrees and Wanda puts her down.
“Guys, these are my moms!” You point to Lena and Kara on the other side of the room, and run to them so you can hug them. Kara holds you tight, while staring at the heroes on the other side of the room. “Ok, momma.” You try to get out of her embrace. “Momma, can I hug mom now?”
“Oh. Ok.” Kara finally let’s go, and you move to Lena’s arms. But you see Kara is still in a defensive position, ready to get into a fight at any moment.
“Hey.” You hold her arm. “You can relax now. They’re my friends.”
“No, they’re not. They kidnapped you.” She says without taking her eyes from them.
“We didn’t, actually. She decided to stay for the battle.” Vision corrects her, and you see that Kara is not buying into it.
“What battle?” Lena asks, with furrowed brows.
“Long story! Anyways, you guys are here now.” You look at the device on Lena’s hand. “And that means we can leave.”
“Aren’t you going to say goodbye?” Wanda asks. “To everyone else?”
“Yeah. Let’s go outside.” You guide your moms out of the compound, and look inside with a smile on your face. You know this was your house for less than two days, but still felt pretty good to be here. You press the comm on your ear. “Smart mouth to Mister Playboy.”
“You better have left me some donuts, kid.” You listen coming from your comm, and you smile harder. Well, if donuts are for geniuses who saved the world, he certainly deserves some.
“Come outside.” You ask, and it doesn’t take long for him to show up at the front door. He walks towards you, well-aware of what these two women behind you mean.
“So, you’re leaving.” He says matter-of-factly, and you nod. “Finally.” You smile and roll your eyes. He comes closer and raises his hand at you. You shake it. “We had a good run.”
“We did.” You agree, because he is right. All the bantering, the jokes, him having your back, picking you up while you fell from the sky. It was a pretty good run.
“Ok. I don’t do sentimental.” He says, but still looks at Lena and Kara, nodding like he’s saying hello. “Just make sure she knows that she helped. What she did was very brave, and also somehow very stupid-” He raises his eyebrow at you. “But mostly very brave for someone her age. I’ll be sure to keep in touch whenever I need a little hand here.”
“Maybe with a grown up this time?” Kara says and he waves her off with his hand.
“Nah. I like the kid.” You can see a tiny smile in the corner of his mouth, but he fakes it. So, you hold back your smile too. “Did you guys bring your own portal, or should I call Strange to send you back home?”
Lena shows him their portal, and he agrees with his head.
“Guess you weren’t lying about L Corp.” He says, looking at the logo on the device, and you agree with you head. “Then, expect a bill coming soon.”
“Bye, Mister Playboy.” You wave goodbye and he shuffles pretending to be unbothered by you leaving.
“Bye, smart mouth.”
Lena turns on the device and you’re almost walking through the portal, when you see the rest of the team showing up.
“You forgot to say goodbye to some people.” Stark says and your smile grows wider, looking at everyone in front of you.
Kara looks shocked by the amount of people in the garden, looking sad about you leaving. Her hand goes to your shoulder, protectively and almost scared they’ll take you from her again.
“Hey, kindergarten.” Bucky is the first one to talk. “Thanks for the help out there.”
“Nice work there, kid.” Cap comes forward with his hand raised so you can shake it. You do so. “Thanks for the back-up.” He smiles softly, baby blue eyes turn to your moms, assuring. “Great kid! You should be proud.”
“Forgive me about the kidnapping part.” Strange comes forward and you smile down, while Kara throws a possessive arm around your shoulder, and Lena holds your arm, which makes you smile harder. “She was of great assistance. She fits right in.”
“Superkid, daughter of Kara and Lena, good fight out there. If you're ever in Asgard, come join me for a beer.” Is Thor who talks next.
“Thor, she is a kid.” Banner says, making you, and some other Avengers, laugh.
“Nonsense.” It’s Thor’s answer. “This girl can lift Mjölnir when none of you were worthy enough to do it. For a mighty warrior like her there shouldn’t exist Midgardian rules like such. She can have a beer if she wants to.”
You look up to Lena who discreetly shakes her head in denial to you. You shrug.
“It was nice meeting you, science pal.” Banner says and you smile at that. “Thank you for the lesson about the multiverse.”
“Thank you for the lesson about nuclear physics.”
“Sorry about the gunshot, kid. Nice fight.” Natasha says and you agree with your head. “Your Earth is lucky to have you.”
“Thanks for making fun of Bucky.” Sam fist bumps you and smiles, listening to Bucky mumble something like I made fun of her’. “Oh yeah, and for the fight thing.”
“Here.” Wanda sneaks in something in your pocket and smiles at you. “It’s what you’re thinking.”
“I’ll see you around. Around the grey area, maybe.” You say, hugging her and she hugs you tight for a minute, before letting you go.
“And we’ll survive together.” She agrees with her head, and smiles at you.
“Is that everyone?” Kara asks, looking at you and you agree with your head when you don’t see Vision.
“Excuse me, Superkid. I would like to personally thank you for your help and care towards Wanda.” He appears before you, coming from out of nowhere.
“Vis.” Wanda says, blushing a little.
“I hope we fight together again. It’s always refreshing seeing someone genuinely good in the world.” He says and it’s your time to blush. “I won’t keep talking longer. Your moms must be eager to take you home, as we are to keep you here.”
“She’s going home.” Kara’s firm grip tights around your shoulder.
“Unless she wants to stay.” You hear Stark’s voice and you smile, knowing he is absolutely messing with your moms. “There’s always space in the compound, if she agrees not to break it. And as Strange said, she fits right in.”
“We thank you for your offer.” Lena answers, slowly pulling you and Kara back to the portal. “But we have to go now.”
“Of course. Of course.” Thor says, winking at you. “You obviously can’t stay here, but Asgard waits for you. You call, and I’ll send Bifrost for you.”
“Ok! Well, I don’t know what Bifrost is, but she is not traveling to another planet. Say goodbye now, baby.” Kara asks, squeezing your shoulder and slowly walking backwards.
“Bye ‘the Avengers’! Whenever you guys need a hand, Cape-guy knows where to find me and Thor can send Bifrost! I hope we meet again soon.” You smile, and Kara pulls you into the portal before anyone else says anything.
“Oooof, that was close!” Kara says, after Lena closes the portal behind you, and she looks around to make sure you three are alone. “I actually thought they would keep you right there.” She breathes in relief, when she realizes there’s no reason to worry anymore because you are home. She hugs you tight and Lena joins in the hug too. You three stay there for a few good minutes, until you make motion to move.
“No, no.” Kara says still pulling you in. “We’re still hugging. You’re not going anywhere.”
“Momma.” You look up to her face. “I’m not going anywhere.” You assure her and she lets you go slowly.
“I’m sorry little one, but you made a lot of friends.” She reaches for your cheek, stroking it gently. “And they seem to like you very much. And all of them were so impressed by you that they wanted you to stay.”
“I know!” You beam excitedly. “Even Mister Stark.”
“Yeah!” Kara agrees looking at Lena from the corner of her eyes, and she whispers to your mom. “Who’s Mister Stark?”
“Isn’t he the one that said you did something very brave, but also very stupid?” Lena asks and you open a forced smile at them. They raise their eyebrows at you.
“I may have gone to outer space and kicked off a bomb that would close the connection between the worlds, and I almost died while doing so.” You say with the same forced smile, while they realize what you just said.
“You may have or you did?” Lena raises an eyebrow at you.
“I may have did.” You shrug. “But I didn’t die!”
“You don’t say.” Lena pulls you in for a hug again, kissing your forehead. “Is there a way for you and your momma to save the world without putting yourselves in dying conditions?”
“No.” You and Kara say at the same time, earning a sigh from Lena.
“I’m sorry for making you guys worried. They needed help in this battle and I, well, I helped. And also, Mister Strange said he left a card?” You ask and they agree with their heads.
“It could’ve been more direct, though.” Lena says and she and Kara exchange a look. “But he did leave the directions, at least.”
“So, tell us everything. About everyone. I can’t wait to hear about your adventures.” Kara asks excitedly and you smile feeling the same way.
“Sure. But can it be over pizza?” You raise an eyebrow at them, and they agree with their heads.
You look down to what’s in your pocket, and you pick it up to look at the picture of you and Wanda making funny faces. Next to it a sticky note signed by Mister Playboy himself. You can’t help a wide smile that comes to your lips. Good. It wasn't a very elaborated induced dream from an imp of the fifth dimension. It was real. All of that. The fight, the jokes, the friends. Everything was real.
“Ready, kid?” Kara asks and you put both items back in your pocket.
“I am now.”

Bucky paced like a wild animal, back and forth, tail lashing with each circuit he made. He hadn’t slept. He hadn’t eaten. He hadn’t functioned much at all in the past few days, and he was always a heartbeat away from snapping like a wire pulled too taut.
He couldn’t go through the door he was pacing in front of, the demonic wards holding him at bay. It was just as well. Without them, he would have marched straight inside and ripped Helmut Zemo’s spine out his throat.
It wouldn’t have solved any of Bucky’s currents problems, but it would have improved his mood. And it might have distracted him for a few moments from the black hole currently residing within him. A negative space where the bond had been. Every moment that void was there, he wanted to tear out his own heart.
Maybe he’d still get the opportunity if they couldn’t find a way to bring her back. He’d end his own life for a fast one-way ticket to the demon realm if he had to, and there Bucky would stay until he found her.
And then… what? They’d be trapped there forever? Why didn’t that scare Bucky as much as the thought of being separated, with her being all alone in that place? He knew she was resourceful. She’d proven it by the fact they’d captured Zemo at all.
When the gun had gone off, Bucky had felt like he’d been the one shot, only it hurt so much worse because he actually knew what a bullet to the gut felt like. He’d barely made it in time to catch her as she fell, and he’d been in no state of mind to deal with Zemo after that. Steve had barely been conscious by the time Strange and the others had found them, so it wasn’t him who had caught the bastard.
No, it had been the Alp itself that had stopped Zemo. Before the man had even gotten a chance to order his demon to teleport him away, it had used its paralysis aerosol on Zemo and knocked him into a peaceful sleep. And then it had vanished in a puff of sulfurous smoke, leaving its master there to be collected by the sorcerers.
The thought made Bucky shake his head. Somehow, Bucky’s girl had managed to make a demon turn on its own master. Not once, but twice, if Bucky was including himself.
Leave it to her to befriend a demon and turn it to her side.
Leave it to her to give everything for Bucky, including her own life. And what had he done in the time since then except vacillate between rage and grief? Between shouting at Strange and standing by Steve’s healing bed like a mourner at a funeral, waiting for them to come up with a rescue mission.
The sorcerers had made little progress, and Bucky feared their only hope lie in the man that had murdered her.
Bucky would have gotten the answers out of Zemo himself, if only for the fact he couldn’t get his hands on him. The demons wards weren’t to keep Bucky out, they were to keep Zemo from calling his demon slave to teleport him away. No matter how had they’d tried, the sorcerers couldn’t break the demon bond. And no matter how much the Alp might not want to, it wouldn’t be able to resist the call of its master, no matter how far away it was. Bucky had learned that lesson the hard way with his own escape attempts from HYDRA.
So now they were at an impasse. Zemo imprisoned but refusing to cooperate, and the sorcerers unable to get anything useful out of him but having no choice but to keep him locked up. Bucky hadn’t be surprised the sorcerers had failed to take away Zemo’s last Hail Mary. If they were capable of breaking demons bonds, they wouldn’t be in this situation to begin with.
The door opened, and Strange had to wave him off before Bucky accosted him with questions.
“Well?” Bucky asked, impatient. “What did he say?”
“Still nothing helpful.” Strange glanced at Wong as he too strode toward the door. It shut with a heavy thud behind them, no doubt locked by all sorts of arcane spells. “It’s clear that Zemo doesn’t know how to work the demon gate with any expert knowledge and relied solely on the red book to achieve his goals.”
The circular stone archway they’d found in the basement of the Siberian compound, which Strange had named the “demon gate,” had remained inert no matter how the sorcerers tried to manipulate and power it. How Zemo had managed to summon the Alp through it, but it wouldn’t respond to the sorcerers, left Bucky short-tempered and frustrated.
It was nothing compared to the guilt. The shame at being controlled, manipulated into almost killing Steve. He was still being tended to by the healers, and the only reason he wasn’t in a hospital was because Strange had insisted they take him to the Sanctum.
And as if that wasn’t bad enough, then Bucky’d nearly killed her. His worst nightmare being played out before his eyes, or it almost had. Through their tenuous bond she’d somehow broken through to him, and Bucky had managed to stay his hand when he’d never been able to do so before.
It had been… freeing. Liberating to disobey a direct command. To be ordered to hurt someone he loved and having the strength to resist.
And then Bucky had failed to save her anyway. She’d died, right there in his arms, her heart going silent the loudest thing he’d ever heard. As if that hadn’t shattered his world enough, she’d turned to ashes in his hands, the stink of sulfur and brimstone stinging his eyes as she slipped through his fingers.
In that moment, Bucky’s bond to Zemo had been severed. One of the apparent benefits of a demon having a human slave. She’d gone to Hell so Bucky could be free.
And all he’d managed to do with that freedom was absolutely fuck-all.
Bucky’s fist flew, the jagged knuckles of his armored hand knocking a sizable chunk out of the stone wall.
Strange merely lifted his eyebrows. Wong frowned in disapproval. Bucky didn’t give a shit. They should have woken him as soon as she’d gone missing, but instead, he’d woken on his own, bursting through the cryo-chamber and shattering its door to pieces. He’d been so confused and enraged that the sorcerers had had to bind him with glowing ropes and wards until Bucky calmed down enough to explain she was being tortured, and he could lead them to exactly where.
So, yes. As far as Bucky was concerned, this was as much Strange’s fault as it was his, and the only reason he was even still tolerating the sorcerers is because they were her only chance of rescue.
If they could get the fucking gate to work, anyway. A big fucking if. Apparently, sorcerers could make portals on Earth without a problem, but crossing into other dimensions was even beyond Strange’s capability.
And yet, she had been able to do it as a ten year old child. Bucky had hoped, maybe, somehow, she would be able to summon that power within her once again and come back to him, but there had been no sign of any mysterious blue portals popping up on Earth.
So as pissed as he was, Bucky had to remain patient, and right now, he had to pay attention.
“I have an idea on how to power the gate,” Strange said, wearily eyeing the damaged wall before turning to Bucky. “We have more of HYDRA’s research that Zemo ever did, and I have no doubt we will be able to create a stable connection soon.”
“Soon isn’t good enough,” Bucky snapped, struggling not to snarl at the sorcerer. “Every minute here is hours over there. Each day wasted is weeks she has to endure, alone, in a place humans were never meant to survive. We can’t—“
The lump in his throat forced him to silence. Bucky couldn’t say what he’d been thinking, and from Strange’s sympathetic expression, it didn’t need to be said.
They might already be too late.
Bucky still wanted to punch Strange in the face. If he cared so damned much, why hadn’t he kept a closer eye on her? Zemo may have been smart, hell, he was probably a genius to figure out how demon magic worked, but how had he managed to outsmart a whole sect of sorcerers?
“We will move as quickly as we can,” Strange said, indicating Bucky should follow him. “I don’t wish to waste any more time than you do.”
Bucky somehow doubted that, but he still followed after the head sorcerer. His tail twitched as they made their way deeper into the Sanctum, to the place Bucky had spent every waking moment when he hadn’t been by Steve’s side.
“I am aware of the time dilation in the demon realm,” Strange said as they walked down a spiraling set of stone steps, “but it might not be uniform or even linear. Your experience may differ from hers.”
If Strange thought that would be comforting news, he was wrong. Bucky didn’t need an overactive imagination to come up with whatever horrors she might be facing now. He certainly didn’t want to dwell on the possibility of… of finally making it to the demon realm and realizing hundreds of years had passed.
Bucky couldn’t… he couldn’t think about it. He would lose his mind. Bucky would only let despair swallow him after he was a hundred percent sure that… that there was nothing left to hope for. That she was truly gone and wouldn’t be coming back.
That he would never get to see her again. To watch as her eyes brightened and that familiar mischievous grin tugged at her lips. To hold her in his arms while he buried his nose in her hair, filling his nostrils with her scent and—
Bucky shook his head and grit his teeth. He couldn’t afford to get distracted, not when they were closer to their goal, so he forced himself to focus on Strange’s words. Something about a power source needed to fuel the thing, and that Zemo must have hidden it away from the base because the sorcerers couldn’t sense it. Bucky honestly didn’t understand most of it, only that it would take an unnatural power source to get the gate running.
The underground lair, as he called it, left Bucky as awed as the first time he’d stepped food inside. The room was essentially a giant dome constructed of very large stones, but the most interesting aspect of the room was the glowing glyphs carved into the stones. The power thrummed under his skin and set his arm plates rigid as his tail flickered.
And there, in the middle of the room, lay the instrument that had been the focus of his frustration and anger over the past few days. A stone gateway, teleported here by great effort from the sorcerers. It was ancient, possibly constructed during the days of the Holy Roman Empire, or so Strange had rambled. Bucky was too fucking stressed to appreciate the mythical history lesson.
When the sorcerers working on the gateway turned to Strange and confirmed it couldn’t be powered by anything in their vaults, Bucky turned away, fists tightening, mentally preparing himself for what he had to do. But before he could take even a single step, Strange laid his hand on his shoulder.
“Just a moment, Sergeant.” Strange’s voice was gentle, and it was the only reason Bucky didn’t grab the hand on his shoulder and break it. “There’s one thing left to try. It’s not without danger and risk, but—“
“I’ll do it,” Bucky said immediately. “Whatever it is, I’ll do it.”
“I suspected you might say that.”
Strange’s smile was sad but accepting as he patted Bucky, and then let his hand drop. Bucky’s desire to strangle the man went down a few notches, and if this worked and he got her back, Bucky might even forgive him.
Might.
Strange straightened his posture and faced the stone archway, held his hands in front of his chest in a manner that meant he was about to cast a spell, and he said, “Though I must warn you, tapping into the power of the Infinity Stones can be quite dangerous.”
With an intricate pull of his fingers, glowing patterns in the air emerged, and that’s when Bucky finally noticed the green light shining from Strange’s amulet. He’d vaguely wondered around the thing always around the sorcerer’s neck, and now Bucky had an answer as to what it was. Something otherworldly, deadly, and strong enough to compare with the power of the blue cube HYDRA had once wielded.
A deep thrumming filled the room, vibrating through the air and up the stones, the potential of something building made Bucky’s wings flair behind his back.
Then the glyphs along the demon gate began to glow, first green like the stone and then to a bright blue that made Bucky’s heart clench with fear. Strange blue lights often accompanied the demonic rituals HYDRA had conducted on him, but he swallowed down the panic and didn’t blink.
The charge in the air built higher and higher, until with a crackle of electricity, the empty space between the archway suddenly filled with light. It pulled outward to the edges, a border of blue around a watery image that sharpened into something Bucky recognized.
The demon realm.
“I can’t hold it forever!” Strange yelled, his hands still in the same position as he somehow, impossibly, held the gateway open using the green stone around his neck. “Get moving, Sergeant!”
Bucky didn’t have to be told twice.
With none of the hesitancy he’d shown the first time being confronted by a blue portal, Bucky flared his wings as he raced forward and gave one hard flap, lifting off and darting through the gateway like a missile launched from its tube.
The dry wind buffeted him from the other side and Bucky nearly nosedived into the red sand, but he managed to right himself and soar up into the air. The human side of him balked at the alien surroundings, but it was the demon part of him that Bucky needed now.
Orienting himself to the familiar magnetic fields of the planet, because in a sick way he’d been alive longer here than on Earth, and he knew this place as intimately as his home.
Turning in the direction of his territory, Bucky pushed his body as far as it would take him and flew faster than he ever had before.
Hold on, sweetheart, he prayed to her, hoping he was heard. I’m coming.

Summary: Y/N goes on the run.
Tumblr media
Y/N appeared in the Zephyr. Immediately on the look out for Coulson. She turned the corner, running into another agent.
“I’m so sorry,” the agents apologized, stepping back. “Are you— you’re Agent Rogers. You’re awake.”
“Um… yeah. Have you seen Coulson?”
“Him and Mack are on the ground, doing some work.”
“Oh, okay. I just wanted to say goodbye.”
“Goodbye? Why would you—“
“Come in, Zephyr One. Come in,” Director Mace called over the comms in the front control panel.
The agent rushed over. “This is Zephyr One.”
“Agent Y/N Rogers is missing. If you find her, take her into immediate custody.” The agent looked Y/N’s way.
“Please,” she whispered, “don’t… I don’t want to force you to not. Just… don’t.”
“We haven’t seen her, sir,” the agent replied to the Director. “We’ll let you know if there’s a sighting.” The agent hung up and walked towards Y/N. “I know that you don’t deserve to be in custody.”
“Thank you, Agent…”
“Johnson.” He held out his hand. “Agent Johnson.”
“Thank you Agent Johnson. Tell Coulson that I tried to say goodbye, will ya? And that I’ll reach out if I need anything.”
“Of course. Stay safe, Agent Rogers.”
Y/N nodded before stepping through a portal. Looking around, she took in her surroundings. It was a cold December evening in London, where she had placed herself. It was time for her to work on gathering her strength for the inevitable fight and for her to figure out how to tap into the Soul Stone. Y/N also knew she needed to stay on the run, the government was going to be non-stop after her, world wide. She couldn’t afford to stay in one place too long.
Y/N found a small shop where she bought a backpack and some essentials she would need for the run. She bought a train ticket to Amsterdam and immediately headed there. In her private room on the train, the news was on. She was ignoring it, simply taking in everything going past the window, until something caught her attention.
“It has been almost two months since Tony Stark announced that he was selling Avengers Tower in New York,” the news reporter stated. “So far, he’s had many bids, but has not officially closed on anything. Rumors have it is that he’s hiding rouge Avengers, Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanoff, and Wanda Maximoff in the Tower. Officials have denied it, but who can blame us for asking?”
“In other news about Tony Stark, his former girlfriend has officially been announced as a wanted fugitive of the United States government. Nothing has been heard about Avenger Y/N Rogers since the Sokovia Accords were put in place, until now. That has people wondering if Stark had been hiding her until she couldn’t take being cooped up anymore and decided to join her brother and former lover, Bucky Barnes aka the Winter Soldier, on the run.”
“Again, most of this has not been confirmed. But one can only assume that—“
Y/N turned off the tv, unable to hear anymore. No one truly understood what had happened, nor did they really try to. With a sigh, she laid down and fell asleep.
She lived like this for the past two and a half months, constantly on the move, barely making time to even sight see. She had made her way across a majority of the Europe and Asia continents. It was lonely, but she knew it needed to be done. As much as she tried, Y/N was never able to connect with the Soul Stone. That didn’t mean she stopped trying though.
Currently, she had found her way to South Africa. She had been there longer than she had been anywhere else. Y/N was enjoying it there. She was walking the streets of a market, enjoying the smells and the food when she could sense someone following her. Turning around, trying to make it normal, she couldn’t see anyone obviously following her. Pursing her lips she turned around and headed for an alley way outside of the market. Y/N wasn’t afraid to take on whoever was following her. She was honestly a little curious as to who had tracked her down.
Turning into the alley way, she was thankful that it was empty. She didn’t need any civilians in the way. Facing away from the entry, she heard someone jump down from the building onto the ground. Using her powers, she jumped into the person’s mind, forcing them to freeze. Y/N turned around to see a person in a black suit, more specifically, a blank panther suit.
“T’Challa?” Y/N questioned. They had never really formally met, but she knew who the new King was.
“Y/N,” he greeted through the mask. “Mind letting me go?”
“Not until you tell me why you’re here? Why are you following me?”
“I made a promise.”
“To the Accords you signed?”
“To your brother.”
Y/N let her hold go. She took a step forward as T’Challa let his mask down.
“Steve. Do you know where he is?”
“I do not. But I promised that I would look for you and keep you safe. You haven’t been all that sneaky since you arrived in Africa.”
“I knew I was over staying my welcome. Thank you, T’Challa, for looking out for me. But I think I’m doing okay.”
“And I think you need to rest. Wakanda is a safe place, no one will turn you in. You can stay as long as you want.”
“I don’t know.” Y/N shook her head. “I don’t think I want to risk it.”
“I understand but, Y/N, have you looked at yourself in the mirror lately? You don’t look like you’ve been taking very good care of yourself.”
“Well, not every place I find to stay at is a five star hotel.”
“You do not need to stay very long. Just get some rest and then you can be on your way.”
“T’Challa… I don’t—“
“Don’t make it seem like I’m breaking the promise I made to your brother.”
“You’re good.” She smirked, waving her finger at him. “Fine. Let’s go.”
~~~
Wakanda was more amazing than Y/N had ever imagined. She had heard that T’Challa had opened it up to the world saying that they had the technology and resources to help many. But she had struggled to believe that until Y/N saw it with her own eyes. T’Challa introduced her to the Dora Milaje, the King’s guard, and their head Okoye. Y/N was extremely impressed that the King’s guard were all women.
Next, she was given a tour of the labs, where she met Princess Shuri and the Queen Mother Ramonda. They were both so kind and welcoming, offering to get Y/N anything she needed. T’Challa then showed her to a room.
“This room will be yours for how ever long you need,” T’Challa stated as Y/N walked around. “I will have your meals for today brought to you, so that you can get some rest. Feel free to safely explore the kingdom. You are safe here.”
That last sentence made Y/N tear up. She hadn’t felt safe is so long. “Thank you, T’Challa, for all of this.”
“Of course. Please let me know if you need anything.”
He gave a kind smile before shutting the door and heading down the hallway. Shuri was at the end to meet him.
“So…” she started, “does she know?”
“I do not believe so,” T’Challa replied, keeping his pace.
“Are you planning on telling her?”
“Not unless it comes up. She needs to be able to rest, not worry about anything else.”
“Well, do you plan on telling him that she’s here? Or the Captain?”
“For now, I do not. The Captain has enough on his plate and you continue must to work with the White Wolf and try to get him better. Do not say anything just yet. We do not know how long she plans on staying.”
“She may stay longer if she knew about him.”
“We do not know that and I do not want to test that.”
~~~
Y/N let herself enjoy a delicious meal before falling asleep. When she woke, it was night and she was now wide awake. Taking T’Challa up on his offer to explore the kingdom, Y/N changed into something warm at set out to find a way out of the palace. She was honestly grateful that it was dark and that hardly anyone was out, it let her wander without the fear of prying eyes.
As she wandered through the fields, Y/N tried to connect with the Soul Stone. It was frustrated her to no end that she couldn’t find away to tap into those powers. She wanted to feel and interact with the souls she had lost, hoping that it might calm her guilty heart. Y/N had tried to get in contact with the Ancient One, but to avail. It was becoming clearer and clearer that the Ancient One had been right, it was up to Y/N and Y/N alone to figure out the Soul Stone.
Too deep in her mind, Y/N hadn’t realized how far away from the palace and main city she had wandered. But someone else had. He kept his distance and kept quiet, fearing that what he was seeing was an illusion. It wasn’t the first time it had happened, but this was a little too real. He was too busy staring at her to notice the branch his was about to step on.
SNAP!
Both he and Y/N froze. Their hearts started beating faster. His because he was scared that she would disappear and hers because she had just come to the realization that she was being followed. Completely on guard now, Y/N slowly turned around.
“Who’s there?” She called out.
When she was fully turned around, she saw no one. But that was because he had laid down in the tall grass, trying to stay out of sight. Y/N could sense the person’s presence. She took a few, careful steps forward towards the person.
“I know you’re there,” she said. “No point in hiding. Just show your face and I can promise you I won’t hurt you.”
He sighed, which Y/N heard. Y/N waited with bated breath for the person following her to show their face. The grass several feet away rustled as the person pushed themselves up from the ground to stood. Y/N inhaled sharply at the silhouette in front of her. The man was bulky, clearly long hair and was missing one arm.
“Bucky?” Y/N breathed out.
“Hello, Y/N.” He responded, clearly nervous. “How are you?”
“I—I—I didn’t know… they didn’t tell me…”
“T’Challa probably didn’t tell you on purpose. How long have you been in Wakanda?”
“Not even a day.”
The two couldn’t move. Too scared to get closer to each other.
“How long have you been here?” Y/N asked.
“Since Siberia,” he answered. “T’Challa was there as well, he brought Steve and I here for safety.”
“Is… Is Steve here then?”
“No. He left after I was put back in cryo.”
“They put you back in cryo?”
“Until Shuri could find away to take HYDRA out of my head.”
“Did they…? Did they help you?”
“For the most part… we’re still working on it.”
They stared at each other, quietly, for a few long minutes.
“I’m sorry,” Y/N said, shaking her head. “I’ve got to go.”
“Please don’t.” Bucky reached out, taking a brave step forward. “At least, don’t leave Wakanda just yet. I want to… I want to see you again.”
“I… I won’t… I just… I just need to think.”
“Of course.”
Y/N opened a portal beside her, unable to take her eyes off Bucky. “Goodnight… Bucky.” She stepped through the portal, disappearing into her room.
“Goodnight, doll.”

TW: Graphic depictions of violence; blood
~~~~~
Tony felt his heart leap in fear when he heard a certain spider-baby’s voice behind him. He whirled around in mid air, dropping a few feet in shock before he stabilized himself.
“Hi, Mr. Stark!” Peter chirped excitedly, skillfully swinging in a large arc and flipping onto his armor, the eyes of his mask almost comically wide. “What’s up?”
Tony struggled to see the boy who was perched on his back, twisting his neck back and forth. “What the hell are you doing here, Pete?”
“I just wanted to help,” he whined, his head hovering upside down in front of Tony’s face.
“No, you don’t,” he grumbled, trying to grab hold of his kid, who was crawling all over his back to avoid him. “You want to go back to school and learn about why the adults in your life are trying to keep you safe.”
Peter giggled. “I know, Tony, and I am safe. I have you!”
He said it so cheerfully, so matter-of-factly, as if Tony’s heart hadn’t melted and his brain hadn’t turned to mush at his precious kid’s words. He was grateful for the helmet shielding his face, otherwise Peter might have been soaked in his tears.
“Mr. Stark? You okay?”
He jerked out of his stupor. “Yeah.” He sniffed. “Yeah, buddy, I’m great.”
“Okay.” Peter sounded suspicious, but he let it drop. “Sure.”
“So, um... what’s going on?” He looked around, trying to find the other Avengers and their opponent(s).
Peter barely saw the blast in time.
He jumped up and aimed a web at the nearest skyscraper, pulling Tony with him, the man letting out a shout of surprise.
The spot where they had just been was now raining down ash and bright purple sparks.
Peter blinked the black spots out of his eyes, his ears ringing slightly. Gradually he realized that Tony was shouting; they were moving fast, Tony’s metal arms wrapped tight around him.
“Peter! Are you okay, Bug?” the man yelled frantically, masked face hovering in front of Peter’s.
“Arachnid,” he corrected. He heard Tony breathe a heavy sigh of relief. They landed on the roof of a towering skyscraper. Peter was sure that Mr. Stark was running over his vitals in the suit and checking for any injuries, no matter how minor they might be. Peter rolled his eyes.
“What was that?” he asked, looking around wildly. “Is Mister Doctor Strange here?”
“I am,” said a dry voice behind them. “But that wasn’t me.”
Tony jumped protectively in front of Peter as they spun around, then relaxed, just slightly, when he recognized the tall figure standing in front of the remnants of a glowing orange portal.
“Strange,” Tony greeted.
“Stark.” Stephen nodded.
Peter waved, grinning.
“What’s with the light show?” Tony asked, setting a hand on his kid’s shoulder.
“A wizard,” the doctor said shortly. “And a powerful one, too. Neoma Ambrosia. She’s fairly new to magic, but she’s dangerous.”
“I think Neoma means ‘new moon’ in Greek,” Peter mused quietly. Tony ruffled his hair proudly, nodding. My genius kid, he thought fondly.
“Tony! What’s going on?”
Natasha, Sam, Steve, and Bucky ran up. Peter couldn’t help but wonder how they had climbed up to the roof. He imagined Sam trying to lug two super soldiers and a heavily armed assassin up a one hundred seventy-five meter tall skyscraper; Peter was sure he could do it.
“There’s a crazy wizard trying to kill us!” the young spider said enthusiastically. “Her name’s Neoma Ambrosia, which I’m pretty sure means ‘new moon’ in Greek, which is like, a super cool name. And she shoots purple fire! We haven’t seen her in, like, fifteen minutes, though.”
Tony chuckled as the other four Avengers blinked. His kid was a whirlwind, and he loved to listen to him chatter.
“Everyone keep watch!” Steve yelled, making Peter flinch. Tony squeezed his neck gently and glared at the super soldier, who remained oblivious. “Eyes peeled like grapes!”
“Ew,” Peter muttered.
They spent the next ten minutes straining their eyes for any sight of Neoma.
Tony was about to turn to Steve and suggest they search the ground, when the edge of the roof exploded with a familiar purple fire, right where Peter was standing.
Tony screamed his child’s name, white, icy-hot terror running through his veins. Rubble tumbled off that building, falling with the small red and blue body.
“No,” he whispered, thrusters at full speed. “No. No. No no no no!”
He crashed to the concrete and sprinted to the rubble that covered his kid.
“Peter, Peter, Peter,” he muttered fervently, throwing the huge boulders with his iron hands as if they were pebbles. He was sure he could lift them just as easily without his suit with the fear and adrenaline coursing through his veins. All the while he yelled, over and over again, the name of the one reason he got out of bed in the morning, the one reason he was alive: his only child, his son, his baby.
At last, at last, he spotted delicate curls peeking out from a hole in a red mask. Tony sobbed and crumpled to his knees, clearing the last of the rocks off of the boy’s small body.
“Peter,” he gasped. He peeled off his mask as gently as he could, hands trembling. “Peter.”
Miraculously, he was somehow awake. Tony sobbed frantically and kissed his forehead. His face was bruised and bloody, with tears rolling slowly off his cheeks. Peter held out shaking arms and made grabby hands, whimpering like a wounded kitten.
Tony ever so gently maneuvered the boy into his lap, Peter slumping heavily against his chest. He cupped his cheeks and kissed both of them, stroking his forehead and smiling tremulously. “Petey. Oh Petey.”
He bit back another cry, trying to hold in for his kid, who was cradled in his arms, bleeding and broken. Peter coughed, and with tremendous effort, lifted his hand to Tony’s face.
The man grasped it instantly, squeezing his small hand tight and trying to rub some sense of warmth into his cold skin. He pressed light kisses to the back of his hand.
“Oh, baby, oh my god,” Tony whispered breathlessly, rocking his child back and forth in his arms. “You’re okay, you’re okay, sweetheart, shh.”
Tears flowed down both their faces. Tony rushed to comfort Peter, forcing what he hoped was a reassuring smile and wiping away the tears with the pad of his thumb. “We’re gonna fix you up, Petey, just hold on. Hold on for me, ‘kay? Doctor Strange and the rest are just making sure it’s safe, and Doctor Cho is coming right now- she’ll be here any second, okay? You just gotta hold on, Petey.”
He sniffed and snuggled Peter more tightly against his chest. “All you gotta do is focus on me. Just look at me, honey. I love you, baby, I love you so much. Stay with me, il mio bambino.”
Peter's eyes drifted lazily up to meet his. He struggled to focus on Tony’s face, his vision blurry and his eyes glassy. “Mi-mis’ er St’rk,” he croaked. “‘Ony.” He coughed, struggling to form words with his bloody, scratched lips and his dry mouth.
“Shh, shh,” Tony soothed. “Shh, baby, I’m right here. You’re doing you great, Petey.” He tangled his fingers in Peter’s curls, smoothing his hair down comfortingly. “You’re doing so great, sweetheart, I’m so proud of you.” Tony hastily wiped away his tears, which had begun to fall down to Peter’s face. “Just hold on, please.”
He squeezed his hand tightly, looking away and blinking rapidly when he realized his façade of calmness was shattering.
Peter whimpered.
Tony’s eyes snapped back to his kid in fear. “Petey-?” he asked worriedly, then followed his gaze.
“Oh god.”
The sounds of blasts and explosions and fighting that faded completely came back full force when he realized the wizard was just ten yards in front of them, standing tall on a hill rubble, her dark gray robes swirling around her.
Tony gasped. Time seemed to move in slow motion as he rushed to protect his kid. He wrapped his arms tightly around Peter’s head and curled around the small body, effectively shielding him from an inevitable spell or explosion.
And then-
He kicked off their pile of rubble and began to roll down, trying desperately to cushion Peter’s head as they gained momentum. Sharp stones slice at his skin but he favored protecting his kid far, far above his own safety.
There was an explosion, so bright that purple swam in front of Tony’s closed eyes. Shards of glass and rock rained down on them and Tony could do nothing but squeeze Peter tighter and press his lips to his forehead and hope this wouldn’t be the end.
Darkness.
~~~~~
He was really to have an Aunt May and an Uncle Rhodey, Peter thought drowsily. He blinked slowly up at the two, trying to smile. Rhodey clapped him on the shoulder gently.
“You okay, kid?”
“Mmmm.” Peter tried to form words but his lips were dry and cracked and his throat was sore and barren.
Aunt May grabbed a glass off the bedside table while Rhodey used the remote to raise the bed into a sitting position and helped Peter shift around. May pressed the glass to his lips and he gulped the cool water down gratefully.
“Small sips, sweetie,” May advised, pulling the glass away. The boy didn’t seem to mind. He gazed up at the ceiling for a long moment, and both Rhodey and May thought he was about to fall asleep, but then Peter frowned. He looked to his left, and then to his right.
“‘Ony? Wh-where’s…?” he rasped. Tears began to well up in his eyes. “‘Ony?”
“Tony’s right over there, bud,” said Rhodey. He gestured to where the billionaire lay, just a few feet away in a white hospital bed almost identical to Peter’s.
“Wan’ him.” Peter tried to sit up but May pushed him back down easily.
“Tony’s right there, honey, right there, why don’t you go back to sleep?”
“Wan’ Dad,” he whined. He tried to sit up again but fell back. “Dad.”
“Oh- oh, that’s so sweet,” May mumbled adoringly, while Rhodey tried to hold in a fond laugh.
“Dad!” Peter became increasingly more upset. Tears brimmed in his eyes and his bottom lip trembled.
“Okay, okay, Petey, calm down, it’s okay,” May cooed, rushing to comfort him and combing his hair. “Rhodey, can you help me move the bed?”
They unlocked the wheels of the bed and began to slowly roll it over to Tony.
~~~~~
When Tony faded back to the land of the living, he realized something was wrong right off the bat.
At first his realization was subconscious, in the pit of his stomach. Then, slowly, it grew, and grew, into full blown panic.
Something was missing- no someone, someone he knew that he couldn’t live without, someone precious who was not just his world but his universe-
Peter.
Peter.
Tony’s eyes snapped open and he jolted up in what he now realized was a hospital bed. His head swam and he swayed, the floor looming dangerously closer before he was caught in a pair of strong arms.
“Tony!”
The owner of a familiar voice heaved him back onto the bed. He blinked, trying to clear his head, and realized it was Rhodey, his Rhodey, bent over to look him in the eye and looking very concerned. “Tones? You okay?”
Tony looked around wildly, clutching Rhodey’s arm. His eyes settled on Peter, who was smiling loopily at him a few feet away. May hovered at his side, frowning worriedly at Tony.
“Petey.”
He tried to escape Rhodey’s strong grasp, desperate to get to his kid. Rhodey tried to comfort the distraught father while May pushed Peter over to him.
“Peter- Peter.” Tony began to sob. “Petey, c’mere. C’mere, baby.”
May pressed the mattresses together and locked the wheels of the bed carefully, then double checking them just in case. She checked the various wires, making sure Peter’s IV, heart monitor, and oxygen tube were still in place.
Meanwhile, with Rhodey’s help, Tony clambered over to his kid and almost collapsed next to him. He sobbed, cupping Peter’s face with gentle, calloused and resting his forehead against Peter’s.
Tony was silent, spare the sharp sobs catching in his throat. “I’m sorry,” he whispered. “‘M so sorry, Petey.” He began to crawl ungracefully under the covers and wrapped Peter ever so gently in his arms. The boy snuggled against him and hummed happily as Tony began fussing over him.
He reminded Rhodey of a younger Tony at MIT, falling asleep in Rhodey’s bunk and holding a (Rhodey’s) teddy bear to his chest and snoring.
“Geez, bud, you really can’t keep scaring your dad like this,” he muttered, grabbing Peter’s free hand and squeezing it. “He has a heart condition, y’know.”
Tony nodded and pressed a kiss to Peter’s cheek, gasping softly in adoration at the giggle he received. His eyes were huge and sparkling with love. It was a sharp contrast to his previous tears, and much more sweet for Rhodey and May to watch.
“Poor kiddie,” Tony murmured, stroking Peter’s cheek with a calloused thumb. “My poor kiddie.”
“Aww,” Rhodey and May whispered almost simultaneously. They exchanged an amused glance and laughed.
Tony glared at them. “Shhh. He's resting!” he hissed, rather loudly. Peter blinked sleepily up at him, but Tony kissed his forehead to comfort him and he relaxed against his chest.
“Right,” May chuckled. “Right, sorry.”
Tony paused and then nodded in satisfaction. He combed his fingers through Peter’s hair soothingly and looked up to Rhodey and May. “This-this’s my baby. He’s my baby. M-my baby, my spider-baby,” Tony mumbled, kissing the boy’s forehead.
Rhodey snorted and struggled to hold in his laughter. May grinned. “Our spider-baby,” she corrected, caressing Peter’s cheek with her fingers.
To their great amusement, Tony pulled the now asleep Peter to his chest protectively, his arms tightening around him as he buried his nose in his curls and shook his head. “Mine.”
“Yours?” she laughed, raising her eyebrows.
“H-he’s my baby, and I’m his dad. And it’s my job to-to protect him. ‘Cause I’m his dad,” he explained. “And I love him. So much. I love him.”
May giggled. “Aww, Tony, don’t worry, Peter knows it.”
“FRIDAY, please tell me you’re recording this,” Rhodey whispered.
“Rest assured, I am,” the AI replied, sounding as fond as a disembodied voice could be.
“This is adorable,” he said, looking back to the very loopy Tony. May nodded. She patted Rhodey on the shoulder in a gesture of comfort, knowing how worried they both had been when they’d seen the medical helicopter land at the compound.
Trying to keep the two superheroes safe, as they had realized, was a challenge, especially when they couldn’t always be there. May couldn’t fly. And even though Rhodey could, they both had jobs that kept them busy.
It was hard to be there for a superhero, but it was easy to love them. They might not be there always, but goddammit, they’d do anything and everything in their power to make sure they were okay.
A soft snore, more like a purr than anything, interrupted the pair’s thoughts.
Peter’s cheek was squashed on Tony’s chest. Tony took the sleeve of his hospital gown and wiped the drool from his chin, looking unhappy about how rough the cloth was on his baby’s skin.
“I need a hoodie,” he muttered. Rhodey graciously offered to grab one, happy to take a coffee break, and May left to grab one of Peter’s. (Though most of Peter’s hoodies were actually ones he had stolen from various friends and family.)
When Rhodey and May returned from the expeditions of rummaging through many messy drawers and selecting as many hoodies as they could find, they grabbed a quick coffee and hurried back to the medbay.
They found both Tony and Peter fast asleep. Tony’s arms were wrapped around his kid tightly, one hand in the boy’s curls and the other wrapped around his back and holding him close. Peter’s head rested on his chest as a makeshift pillow, looking absolutely tiny in the big bed with Tony protecting him, even in sleep.
May laughed fondly, kissing Peter’s forehead and then settling in her squishy purple chair. Rhodey flopped down in a leather armchair and they both took a big swig of their coffees.
Rhodey pulled out a Starkpad and began scrolling, while May fished a book and her glasses out of her purse.
They would be there for as long as it took for Tony and Peter to recover. And after that, they would still be there. They loved their superheroes, even though May and sometimes even Rhodey, forgot that they were superheroes too.
You wanted to help in whatever was happening, you weren’t quite sure still, but it had something to do with the infinity stones and how you guys needed to find them before some guy named Thanos does.
It took a lot of convincing for Steve, Natasha and Rhodey (they were the ones more protective over you) to let you come, especially with Tony not around to scold you since he was in space.
“I’m coming with you guys whether you like it or not - no, I know what you’re gonna say, I can handle myself. I’m sixteen! Did you know Peter’s in space right now with Dad? Outer freaking space. You’re not the only one who has a suit, Rhodey-”
The argument ended with, “if something happens and I-” you dragged your thumb across your neck, “then it’s on me. None of you are to blame. Can we go now?”
So they didn’t have any other choice. You went to Wakanda with them to get the mind stone out of Vision and intend to destroy it afterwards.
Things got a *bit* out of hand though, there was an army of creatures - they’re from space, you assumed, working for Thanos - trying to get the stone. You fought alongside Sam and Rhodey, sometimes even fighting with Bruce who was using the Hulkbuster. You also helped the Wakanda tribes when they got overpowered by the creatures.
Even Thor came back to fight and he brought a raccoon and a tree with him.
The battle was going really messy, until - “Everyone on my position. We got incoming.”
You fly to where Cap and the team are, and there he is coming out of what appears to be a cloudy, blue grayish portal, Thanos himself.
“Cap, that’s him.” Bruce says as he hides you behind the Hulkbuster to shield you. He slowly walks over to the purple titan before saying, “stay down, [Y/N], alright?”
Did all of them suddenly forget that you, if not more, are stubborn like your father?
Because when all of them attack, you fly behind Thanos when he's distracted and wrap both your metal covered arms around his neck in stupid attempts to strangle him. He effortlessly uses his gauntlet to throw you back to the ground, knocking you out.
He eventually got all the stones, snapped his fingers when Thor failed to kill him, and left.
“What did you do?!”
“Where did he go? Thor, where did he go?”
“What’s happening?” You get off the ground as Bucky turns to dust. You look around and saw the air filled with the same dust, just from different people.
What the hell did that snap do?
People are vanishing, disappearing, are they dying? Why are they dying? You’re pretty sure you're panicking. Your lips start to quiver and you feel your chest tighten, making it hard for you to breathe.
Natasha notices right away. She's the one who could help you with your anxiety attacks besides Tony. She comes to you and places her hands on your shoulders, looking you in the eye. “Hey, it’s going to be okay, you’re fine, just breathe with me,”
You watch Wanda, one of  your best friends, turn to dust too which did not help in the slightest. What’s worse is when Natasha holds your hands to calm you down,
They start turning into dust particles.
“No no no no no no,” you grow weak, holding onto her. “Nat, I’m scared - I don’t - I don’t know what to-”
“Y/N, just breathe like we practiced, okay?”
You try copying her breathing but it’s no use. It doesn’t change the fact that you’re still fading away. You look at her, tears threatening to fall out of your eyes, “I’m so sorry.” She has no choice but to hug you tightly until you get dusted completely.
The Avengers just lost a kid. Not just any kid, for them you were special. You always supported the team no matter what. They couldn’t even imagine what Tony’s reaction would be.
When Natasha told Pepper of course she didn’t take it well.
You were Tony’s own flesh and blood (and some one night stand chic that we won’t mention anymore starting now), but Pepper helped raised you when Tony first took you in and treated you like her own. Sometimes you even called her ‘mom’.
She was so relieved when a spaceship came by the compound to drop Tony off - he looked weak and skinny - she didn’t know how to break the awful news to him while he was in that condition.
“I lost the kid,” he meant Peter. What he doesn’t know was that he actually lost two.
“It’s been twenty-three days since Thanos came to Earth.”
Bruce and Natasha keep looking over one another as images of the people they lost in the snap took turns popping up as holograms. Rhodey feels tense and keeps tapping his foot - nervous of what his best friend’s gonna do once he sees-
Tony abruptly stands up from his wheelchair. “Stop. Stop there.” (“Tony, you need to sit down,”) “No.” He stumbles over to a particular hologram, the one with his daughter’s face.
Y/N Stark.
The room is awfully quiet. Despite you telling them that it isn’t going to be any of their faults if something happens to you, they still feel responsible for you.
“Was anyone going to tell me?” He speaks softly. Too soft and calm for all of them that they remain glued to where they're standing, avoiding eye contact. He clenches his fists and sends a look to  everyone in the room. “You better not be shitting me I already lost Parker and I - I can’t - I can’t lose her. I can’t.”
“Tony,” Natasha says. “We couldn’t do anything to stop it.”
It's like being stabbed with his own blade all over again. She tells him everything that happened, how you got dusted like Peter, and Tony just stares blankly at your photo, looking very pale.
Tony takes a deep breath and pushes his glasses further up his nose, holding in  tears. Good thing his glasses cover it up. He mutters ‘okay’ over and over as he takes a seat back in his wheelchair. Steve hesitates to continue the discussion but Tony encourages him to go on, even though he feels like he was literally dying inside.
His mood definitely went downhill from there - Tony's furious with himself. Furious with them, with Steve, that he takes it out on the super soldier. By the end of it he's on the floor, passed out.
“Dad, come in, it’s [Y/N]. Everything alright out there?”
“Oh y’know, typical day in the city - pair of aliens came to visit again.” Tony sounded breathless.
You paused briefly. “...what? W-well, do you need help? I can help, and Peter’s probably on his way there - he just made a lame excuse and hung up on me so, I figured he sensed something was wrong.”
“Yeah. Stay where you are and when things get worse, find Pepper and get to safety.”
“You’ve gotta be kidding me.”
“Nope. Deadass serious. Stay out of this one.”
Tony opens his eyes and takes in his surroundings. He's transferred to a bed with the same wires poking his arm. He dreamt of his last conversation with you - before and while he was dragged to space.
“Hey, I’m still here, you know,” you cut him off while he was arguing with Strange.
“[Y/N]? How is this still connected?”
“I made the earpiece set myself - I guess it has really long range, huh?”
“You’re a nerd.” Tony cracked a small smile.
“Hi [Y/N]!” Peter shouted from a distance.
“Peter? You’re in space too? I’m so jeal-”
The line completely went out, guess the range wasn’t that long.
“Tony?” Pepper says gently. “You shouldn’t be up - it’s only been an hour since you passed out.”
He looks at her for a moment then returns his attention to the wall, eyes bloodshot. “Have I been a good father to her? ‘Cause I feel like she deserved more. Way more.”
“Of course, she loved you! Tony, [Y/N] loved you as much as you love her,” Pepper reassures, running a hand through his hair. “I know you’re upset but you really should be getting bed rest right now.”
He sniffles and gave a small nod, “okay.”
He closes his eyes again when she left the room and sigh, mumbling “goddammit kid,” before letting the tears flow down. Tony rarely cries. Barely cries. He usually keeps those stupid emotions in but this - the fact that his little girl is gone, it's too much for him. He realized never fully showed how much you meant to him and he regrets it.
Can't help but think that it should've been me Either way, I still wish you were here.
Fast forward to five years later: Tony now lived at a lakeside cabin with Pepper and their daughter, Morgan.
Moving on was better than to be sad and depressed for the rest of his life. That’s what you wanted for him anyway, to be happy.
So that’s exactly what Tony did.
He spent time with his family, made new suits which he enjoyed to do, living his life peacefully. That doesn’t mean he forgot about you. Sure the last few years were hard, he missed you every single day, but he had to face and accept it.
Tony moved your stuff from the compound and into a vacant room in the cabin. Sometimes he’d look through your crazy inventions, your journals that were filled with ideas for future gadgets and he hung up framed photos of you and him (some with Pepper) on the walls.
He told Morgan all about you. How awesome you were, how you were energetic and enthusiastic in everything you do, and how the both of you would be best friends if you two met.
“I wanna meet her,” Morgan says, looking at pictures of you.
Tony smiles sadly and looks at the photo of you and him. It was at your school’s science fair and your invention won first place (he remembered laughing at all the science teachers’ shocked faces because of your advanced gadget, way advanced than the grade you were in). Both of you looked really happy.
If a picture is all that I have, I can picture the times that we won't get back If I picture it now it don't seem so bad Either way, I still wish you were here.
“Someday, maybe.” He replies, giving her a warm smile.
Steve, Natasha and a new guy Scott visited him one day. They basically told him bringing back everyone who died in the snap was possible, hinting time travel.
Tony was torn. He didn’t want to risk losing what he had now, but bringing everyone back... that was something. Everyone in the universe that vanished, the other Avengers, the guardians he met in space, Strange, Peter, you.
That same night he thought about you, and Peter when he stumbled upon a picture of both of them. That same night, he figured out time travel.
“Hey legacy,” he chuckles a bit, remembering how you always frowned or pouted whenever he called you that. He likes that nickname on you though. “I... uh, this is just a little video. For you. Sure you won’t see this but... I like to pretend I could still talk to you. I miss you, a lot.”
“It’s been five years, hun. Morgan, your sister... you have no idea how much she talks about you. She wants to meet you someday,” he looks at the camera. “I know I can’t tell her the real reason why you’re not here with us, not yet, but anyway, ‘couple of old pals came to visit me. They want to try to get everyone back, that includes you.”
Tony sighs, looking away. “As of now I don’t know if we’re ever gonna pull off something like this. I figured it out, just a couple minutes ago actually. Time travel. It’s dangerous, very risky...”
“But we’ll see. We’ll figure something out. I hope to see you soon, [Y/N]. I love you.”
----
so I’ve cut this lil idea into two parts - I’ll probs post part 2 soon right after this one - if everyone likes it of course :)
oh, and I listened to this song by Neck Deep while writing this, which is where I got the title too, you can listen here. (I also put in some lyrics from the song to the story, just because it fits well hehe)
Day 1 of @winteriron-week: Pre-WS Bucky & Mutual Pining
T, 1k, Moodboard, Time Travel, Post-CA:CW, (Enemies) to Lovers, Non-Linear Narrative | AO3
(Day 2 / Day 3 / Day 4)
The brown broth—supposedly a stew—is mocking him, Tony is certain of that. So is Bucky’s delightful laugh right next to him at something Steve is saying, but that’s a whole nother issue Tony refuses to go into now. No, it’s the stew Tony feels more offended by right at this moment.
If Tony had known before that military food tasted this utterly disgusting, he would’ve sent a private cook with Rhodey on his missions. Which Tony isn’t sure if that would be allowed, but he’s got the money to make it work.
Then again, in the present they have those MRE packs Tony can only hope taste better than this mud on his plate. Which leads to issue number two: the present and the past. Because the latter is where Tony’s at. In the 1940s in goddamn World War II to be precise.
Six weeks and four days ago had Tony been lying on a cold concrete floor of a HYDRA bunker in Siberia, his suit damaged and his willpower shattered, Steve’s stupid shield lying right next to him. It hadn’t taken long for Strange to appear through one of his portals and offer his help which Tony accepted more or less reluctantly.
That turned out to be a mistake. A little bit of green light aimed directly at him was more than enough to catapult him straight into a warzone in front of Captain fucking America’s convoy.
See, this is why Tony hates magic.
The hardest part, however, wasn’t processing the sudden time travel—it was fighting the urge to grab a gun and shoot Steve and Bucky straight in the face after confronting them again.
Tony had seen enough movies though, to know not to mess with time. But it was difficult. Difficult to not just put his hands around Bucky’s throat and squeeze the same way the Winter Soldier had with his mother. Difficult to smile and introduce himself as “Edward Rhodes” who “didn’t look where he was walking and then got hit by a convoy”. Difficult to fight side by side with them as if Siberia never happened.
Difficult until three weeks and six days ago when Bucky gave him for the first time one of his brilliant smiles that made his blue eyes shine in a new light and Tony had known in that exact moment that he was truly fucked.
Because Bucky Barnes killed—or will kill his mother.
But if Tony thought not taking revenge on Bucky would be difficult, then not falling in love with him was downright impossible. Or: issue number three.
It’s the jokes and the smiles and the intelligence behind those bright blue eyes. It’s the way Bucky drawls when he talks. It’s their night walks in the dark under the stars and how the air between them seems to spark. And before Tony knows it, he catches himself staring at those cherry red lips, imagining pulling Bucky behind the trees to steal a kiss.
Though as lovely the thought is, as heavy crushes reality upon him and reminds him where and who they are. This is neither the place nor the time Tony belongs to—he belongs to Rhodey and Pepper and Happy. To F.R.I.D.A.Y. and his bots. To the future.
And Bucky has his own future where Tony has no place in, although it’s by far not a nice one. So he keeps his thoughts and hands to himself and settles for dreams only.
Now after all those stolen glances and what ifs and almost he sits here with the Commandos, poking listlessly at his stew while he lets the sound of Bucky’s laugh that makes his heart sing in desire still linger.
Because all of this has an expiration date.
In exactly four weeks and two days a bright green light will wake Tony from his sleep and pull him with an unexpected force right back into HYDRA’s cold Siberian bunker as if nothing happened, Strange hovering over him and wearing a sheepish expression Tony didn’t know he was capable of.
Strange will apologize for using the wrong spell and explain that the Time Stone used Steve’s shield as anchor, which is why he ended up at the warfront in the 40s—the shield’s origin.
Weeks will go by of Tony focusing on Rhodey’s recovery and trying to process what had happened while he was in the past. And then another few months until he finally decides to call Steve with that mocking outdated phone and meets him to talk their issues out.
Finding out that Steve thought the entire time Maria must’ve cheated on Howard with “Edward Rhodes” to explain the alikeness between Tony and Edward will leave Tony speechless for the very first time since High School.
Finding out that he was also sure Tony and Bucky had a thing together, even more so.
It will only take a few days for Tony to pack his things and fly to Wakanda to see Bucky again. Bucky, who will have gotten rid of the trigger words by then. Bucky, who will be herding peacefully some goats at a farm. Bucky, who will be his Bucky again, and yet not quite the same.
And they will walk under the stars and talk and Tony will find out that Bucky had recognized him but hadn’t been sure if his mind just played him a prank, and that Bucky had been having the same feelings for Tony too since the moment they met each other, but had been too afraid back then to ask if he was interested in men.
And then finally, they will get that kiss behind the trees.
But that is only in the future of Tony’s present and right now he is in the past, exchanging his mud on a plate with Bucky’s rubberlike meat, feeling betrayed by his own heart that threatens to jump out of his chest when their fingers brush during that exchange, yet finding himself smiling right back at Bucky whose entire face lights up in amusement.
And while Tony trusts Strange to find a way to bring Tony back, hopes so desperately, he can’t help but think that a future with a smile like that aimed at him is not a bad one either.
And that maybe they could’ve been more if they just had met in another time.
The Cloaked Rose ~Chapter 2~
Tumblr media
Summary: What happens when a Psychic Nexus who feels anybody’s energy comes in contact with the Avengers but most importantly someone she thought she’ll never find.
Warnings: none I think.
Bucky X OC!Character
Avengers X Platonic!Character
A/N: The main character’s personality is based on myself and she’s not like Wanda just imagine the main character to be a different type of nexus and Wanda being just a witch not a nexus. Also it starts after Thanos dies meaning the falcon and winter soldier time but Tony and the rest are alive and Steve is a Nomad but the government is okay with him since He gave the shield to Sam. John Walker aka the US agent still exists but he’s on the down low. Loki is also an avenger now so chill.
Chapter 2
Alara’s POV
It has been two weeks since I moved in with the avengers and I can’t believe they’re way different than what they show people. Natasha had told me that she would be my training partner for a long time and we have grown close since then.
I had also grown close with others as Tony is usually the one who makes me laugh with his witty sense of humor and Steve gives me advice on any matter. Everyone is used to me now, everyone except James Buchanan Barnes. I have no clue as to what I did that made him despise me.
We were sitting in the lounge just doing normal stuff, when Tony spoke “alright avengers we have a mission, but only Sam Bucky and Alara are going.” he said. I spit the water from my mouth making everyone look at me, “I’m not going with Bucky, that old man hates me” I said and immediately Bucky spoke up “I’m not an old man, and I don’t wanna go with her either”.
Steve looked at Bucky signaling him to go while Wanda walked towards me and said “it’s alright Alara it’s just a few days and i will be here if you ever wanna call”. I smile at her and excused myself to get my bags packed.
A while later we were on the plane to an encrypted location and Bucky was arguing with Sam about having a plan, only for Sam to jump out without saying a word. That boy is on another level. Bucky was taking sometime to jump out of the plane so as soon as he ripped of his sleeve I pushed him out and heard him yell “I hate you Alara” making me laugh I jumped out of the plane but instead of falling, I use my power of flight making both Sam and Bucky confused.
“Yeah I can fly” I said and walked ahead of them. Bucky used his super speed to run to the building. Sam and him kept on bickering as I rolled my eyes and said “there are seven people and one hostage now we need a plan to save the person held hostage” Bucky sighed “yeah leave it up to me” he said as he ran faster than Sam and I would.
It turns out the hostage was the part of the group , she kicked Bucky out through the door: I smirked when I saw it happen. Bucky was being beaten up when I decided to have some fun.
I finally jumped on top of the truck and let my powers flow out of me. The orange beams got on my body as I finally showed my true self. Bucky looked at me and I saw a smile on his face as if he was proud of me.
During the fight Sam and Bucky were kicked out of the truck as the US agent came to the spot. Somehow Sam and Bucky hated John and I had no clue why until when we sat in his vehicle and he looked at me and said “miss you should join in with the best people here” and then touched my thigh. I grabbed him by his neck and punched him twice before Sam stopped me “Don’t you ever touch me again, you pathetic piece of a human” I said to Walker.
He looked terrified and I flew off with Sam and Bucky following me from down low. “They’re super soldiers guys” I shouted at them from above and Sam let us to a hotel room that Tony paid for us to stay at. Well let’s just say it was more of a suit than a room.
“We need to go to Madripoor” I heard Sam say as he ended his phone call. “Who was that?” Bucky asked and Sam replied “Sharon. She knows about people who would do such a thing”. Bucky looked at me and said “since when do you glow like a carrot” I rolled my eyes and replied “since hydra experimented on me and gave me powers that are unimaginable” “like what?” Sam suddenly asked, “I can open portals to other dimensions, I got my powers from Loki’s tassaract.” I clarified. They both looked amused and I chuckled at their reaction.
We came up with a plan till late when Sam told us to rest. Later that night I couldn’t sleep so I went to get something from the kitchen like area in the suite when I saw Bucky drinking a shot of tequila, he looked at me and smiled “got thirsty for something” he said and smirked “Ew no, I’m just hungry” I replied and searched for food.
I heard him take a deep breath and say “you know I don’t hate you” I looked at him confused “then why do you always treat me like you hate me?” I ask. He took the food plate from my hands and say “that’s because, something is drawing me towards you and I don’t want to hurt y-“.
I stopped him and quickly said “hurt me? You can never hurt me Bucky” he was so close to me that I could smell his perfume or odour if you can say. “Bucky, I trust you” I added, he looked at me and leaned down a bit to kiss my head, something I never expected to happen as I touch his dog tags . “Sleep Alara, we have a mission to complete” he said “Bucky I-” I said but he had already walked away from me.
I’m starting to like the mission we’re all on.
Bucky’s POV
The next morning when I woke up, I couldn’t shake away the memory of kissing Alara’s forehead. I had grown to like her a bit, she’s cool you know.
We were on our way to Madripoor when Sam said that Sharon told us to meet Shelby at a club. “You sure it’s a good idea” I say to Sam as we go to the bartender and ask him about Shelby. “You’re not welcome here” the bartender said. Alara groaned and just then a man grabbed her by the shoulder. “Let her go!” I said as I grabbed his hand and kicked him across the room. “Stop it Bucky!” I hear Alara say but I couldn’t as more men try to fight.
“Okay stop! Shelby will see you now” the bartender said I looked at Bucky and held his metal hand leading him behind Sam.
“Well well” I hear Shelby say as she sat on the sofa. “We want to know about the super soldier serum” I hear Alara say. “You need to go to Professor Negal, but since now-“ Shelby almost said something but someone shot her. I quickly grabbed Alara’s hand and ran out the club, with Sam following us behind. We were saved by Sharon who shot the men from a far.
“Sharon?” Sam said surprised, Sharon looked around before replying “follow me guys” and we nodded. She led us to her house, “how are you here Sharon?” I ask her “I stayed here after a mission I was given” she replied and got up “so I heard you wanted to know about Professor Nagel, I’m having a party tonight and I’ll find out about him. You guys get dressed” she added
Two hours later I hear the music playing out loud and then I spot Alara in a red dress dancing around in the crowd. Sam looked at me and smirked, I rolled my eyes and walked towards her “Alara you need to stop” I tell her. “No” I hear her say and she push me away.
I saw her pull a man towards her as she danced quite provocatively. I clenched my jaw as something took over me, I walked to her again but this time I pulled her away from the man and pulled her closer to me. I placed my arms around her and danced with her. She looked up at me surprised and smiled. I looked into her eyes seeing an orange spark, I let go of my body as I slowly leaned in close to her. “Bucky” I hear Sharon say and we both look at her at the same time “I have found where Nagel is” she adds and we along with Sam follow her.
I can’t believe what I was about to do
P.S this is what Alara looked like when she revealed her powers to Sam and Bucky. It’s orange beam unlike Captain Marvel who emits yellow beam
Forever- Bucky Barnes x y/n Oneshot
SLIGHT SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 5
Tumblr media
(Not my Gif: Credit goes to Owner)
Warnings: Mentions of Hydra torture
Synopsis: You had loved Bucky for a long time, and finally he realizes he might feel the same.
You had been with Bucky through it all. Through Hydra, breaking free from Hydra, being on the run, him being Blipped, all the court process, being pardoned, therapy, amends. And somewhere through all of that, you had fallen in love with him. Which was very nice, except he didn’t love you. Or maybe he used to, but he didn’t anymore, and you weren’t sure which was worse.
You had been taken by Hydra in the 60’s, held captive by them, and given a super soldier serum. They tortured you and trained you into being a perfect spy, minus the memory wipes. You were always partnered with the Winter Soldier. You were a perfect deadly team, committing your assassinations and completing missions as planned. As much as you absolutely despise being put on ice and doing Hydra’s dirty work, there were nights where you and the Soldier could spend time together. On those nights, you would usually talk enough for the both of them, but sometimes he would quietly reply and then fall silent again.
As the decades passed and the two of you worked together, you were able to form a semblance of friendship. As the friendship deepened over the years, there were little buds of romance that began to flower. Whether it was the Soldier protecting you on missions, to him laying with you as you both came out of cryo. It didn’t matter if he had just come from a wipe, he always remembered you. Perhaps that’s where it started. This continued on and on, until one night you finally made the confession.
The three words quietly slipped from your lips in the still of the night before you could even stop them, and the Soldier looked down at you in surprise. Before he could even think of replying, alarms went off and you were dragged from the huddle of blankets that the two of you were sitting on on the floor. The Soldier was dragged down the hallway and out of sight, and if you closed your eyes on a quiet night and listened, you could still hear his agonized screams as he was wiped over, and over again. Hearing his screams was almost as bad as what Hydra did to you. It had been years since they beat you that bad.
It was a while before you were able to work with the Soldier again, but this time there was no recognition in those steel blue eyes of his. You completed your mission in silence, and as soon as you were back at the Hydra compound, you were both put on ice again.
This continued on and on until you were given a specific mission. To kill the leader of SHIELD. And then to kill Captain America. You could remember a little of learning about him from school. He was a war hero, and a good man. That was the first mission you had genuinely questioned your orders.
That was when you first met Steve, when the events of Washington D.C happened. You had left Hydra that day with Bucky, having finally learned who he actually was. Learning how to live in a normal society while being on the run. It had taken a lot to earn Bucky’s trust after everything. He thought you were still a Hydra soldier, and it took a good 6 months of persuasion and small acts before he realized you could be trusted. After that, you were inseparable. Living in crappy hotel rooms, stealing little bits of food to eat, always looking over your shoulders. Maybe that’s when the feelings actually started.
Both of you would lay on the floor of wherever you were staying at, talking about memories from before Hydra. Bucky would tell you stories of Steve, and you would tell Bucky about your childhood friends and family. After two years of being together you definitely saw Bucky as more than a friend, but you would never in a million years tell him that, not right now. Not with both of you being too fragile. Not since the last time you said those three words he was tortured so badly he couldn’t remember you.
And then Steve came back, and you were arrested, and then had to fight the re-awakened Winter Soldier. And then had to comfort the re-awakened Bucky. And then had to fight Zemo. That had been a long week.
Then you were in Wakanda together, hiding from various governments. You had hardly left his side when he was put back under a cryo freeze, the only exception being when Shuri made you flee when everyone thought T’challa was dead. And even then, it took every fiber in you to leave his side. You were there through all the trials of getting the trigger words out of Bucky’s head. Every failed attempt, you were there for eachother, holding him as he cried, watching him take his frustrations out in the gym or the woods surrounding the palace. Even when he told you that you deserved more than him, you didn’t leave. And you still hadn’t said those 3 words again.
Even when the trigger words were gone, and Bucky sobbed beside the fire, for the first time in almost a century as a free man, you held him and said you were so proud of him. And he grasped you like a drowning man grabs a life preserver. And the words still weren’t said.
The next time you said those words was after Bucky had turned to dust. After you had lost him. You whispered them in the trees in the middle of the Wakandan jungle, alone. And for five long years, you would repeat those words in your head. And you never said them to anybody else.
When the rest of the team figured out a way to get everybody back, you went with them. Fought with them. And when Bucky walked out of one of Strange’s portals, it took all your strength not to leap into his arms, say those three words, and never let go. But there was still a battle to fight. And then you won. Sacrifices were made, and you were still with Bucky.
And through the government pardons, and the mandated therapy, and the poor attempt at an adjustment back to normal life, you tried to stay with him. Except it seemed like he didn’t want to stay with you.
You were offered a place to stay together and he said no. Any conversation you had didn’t last longer than a minute, and was always met with one word answers. Texts were ignored, calls were ignored, even knocking on a door was ignored. So you ignored back. And whenever he was brought up in your therapy sessions, you shut down. The only person you would talk about it with was Sam. And ever the optimist, Sam said to give him time. Except you had given him decades, and the words still hadn’t been said. And you had decided that they would never be said again.
Sam asked you to help him first with the whole Flag Smashers scenario. And imagine your surprise when Bucky showed up. And imagine your surprise when Bucky almost ripped off John Walker's face, not about his comments about Steve but when he made a derogatory comment towards you. And imagine your surprise when Bucky still did everything he could to protect you during fights.
So now that the fighting had stopped and you were staying at Sam’s house, you had time to actually reflect, you were filled with sadness. Because despite Sam’s usually contagious optimism, you didn’t think you would ever say those three words again.
At first Bucky wasn’t sure what had woken him up, that is, until he turned his head and saw Sam’s nephews playing with the shield. He watched them for a moment before flicking his hand up in a small wave. “Hey.”
Quicker than what Bucky thought was possible the boys had put the shield back in it’s bag and had scurried away. A small grin had planted itself on his face as he watched them leave. ‘That’s what our kids will be like,’ was Bucky’s first thought. He stared up at the ceiling for a moment, wondering where the hell that thought had even come from. And then he wondered where you had gone to, because you weren’t on the couch opposite of him in the living room.
And like a bolt of lightning, it hit him. James Buchanan Barnes loved you. Bucky stared at the ceiling as his mind reeled. He loved you. Of course he did. How could he not? Even from the small snippets of his early days of Hydra, you were there. Through every fight, through every punishment, you were there. After he woke up from every cryo freeze you were right there, waking up next to him. You were with him when he was on the run, never wavering from his side. Everytime suggested you leave, you would flash him your dazzling smile and roll your eyes, quietly telling him that you weren’t going anywhere. You were there for the hundreds of nightmares that Bucky had as his memories finally came back, just like he was there for all of yours.
You got arrested with him after he was framed for the UN bombing. You had to fight the Winter Soldier, and when he realized that he had hurt you, he was physically sick despite you telling him that you had worse. You fought the Avengers for him, you fought Zemo for him. You fought Iron Man for him. You stayed in Wakanda. You helped control him when the trials failed and he reverted back to the Winter Soldier. You held him as he was a free man for the first time in his terribly long life. You had wiped his tears and whispered that he was free, letting the tears fall down your own cheeks.
Bucky sat up from the couch, his mind a reel of every moment the two of you had ever had. You were the last thing he saw when Thanos had blipped him. You were the first person he looked for across the battlefield when he was brought back. You were by his side when Steve came back, much older than he should have been. When the end of the line finally came. You were still there now, even after Bucky had tried pushing you away because how could a man as broken and tarnished as him ever be able to be worth something to you? How could a man who deliberately stopped talking to the only person who could understand the horrors that you both had gone through be loved? And the answer was right there. Because you loved him too.
Bucky had never moved so fast in his life, throwing shoes on that he didn’t even know if they were his to get outside to find you.
The sun had just risen as you stood on the dock near Sam’s boat, your worn out flannel shirt wrapped around you to fight off the cool breeze coming up off of the water. Every morning you woke up before the sunrise so you could watch it. A reminder that it was a new day, with new beginnings.
The quiet of the morning was broken by Bucky’s frantic voice. “Y/N?” he called out. He called again as he ran down the yard, spotting you on the dock. You started walking towards him, a little confused as to what had rattled the super soldier.
“Bucky, what-” you were cut off as Bucky slammed into you, nearly knocking you off balance until his hands found your waist and his lips touched yours. It was a frantic kiss, one that almost sent you into a panic because you thought something was wrong, even though his lips melting into yours felt so right.
You gently pushed Bucky away, catching your breath and staring into his brilliant blue eyes. “Bucky, what’s wrong?” you whispered.
“I love you.”
You blinked as your breath hitched and his eyes searched yours, looking for any hint that you felt the same. “I love you, and I should have said it years ago. I should have said it every day. I love you and I want to wake up next to you every day. I love you and I want a house to ourselves, with a dog and cats, and I want kids running around. I love you and I want to get better with you. I love you so much-”
This time it was your turn to cut him off with a kiss, except this kiss was much gentler than his. You had cupped his cheek in your hand, and reached up on your toes to meet him. It was a slow kiss, that sent chills across your body and butterflies erupted in your stomach. A kiss that ended with you smiling into each other.
“I love you too, Bucky.” You whispered. “I’ve loved you forever, and I want to love you for the rest of our forever.” He chuckled, and pulled you into a hug, so tight that you could hardly breathe, but you wouldn’t dare say anything.
“I’m sorry it took me so long to say it.” He whispered into your hair. You were already shaking your head in protest.
“Don’t be. I’m just glad we could say it at all.” You said, pulling back so you could look into his eyes again. Bucky chuckled and kissed you again.
“I can’t wait to start forever,” He mumbled against your lips. You laughed and kissed him again. Until Sam peeked his head out of the boat.
“Do you guys mind starting your forever away from my boat?” he asked, but the grin on his face said it was only in jest.
“Don’t mind if we do,” Bucky said just as he lifted you by your waist and hoisted you over his shoulder, marching you up the hill where you could continue your forever.
Choosing Between Two Loves Part 7 ~ Endgame - 3
Summary: You were a Goddess named (Y/N), who had powers similar to Thor and even stronger, you joined the Avengers back when Loki had tried to take over New York. You were great friends with most of them. Tony Stark was someone you were always in love with even though you knew you could never have him. However that all changes when you get to know a certain super soldier....
You woke up with your head pounding, you felt a heavy weight on your chest, when you opened your eyes you saw that it was all debris that surrounded you, something had gone entirely wrong. “Thor?! Tony?!” you called for anyone to hear you but you were met with silence. You pushed the debris off of you, you weren’t severely injured thankfully, you had minor cuts that would surely heal up within the hour, the benefit of being a goddess. You dusted yourself off, grabbed your gear and walked around to see if you could find anyone.
You spotted Thor standing on a small cliff looking down focused on something. “Are you okay?” you asked him, “Mhmmm”, you looked to see where he was looking, you felt your blood drain to your feet, it was Thanos, this wasn’t supposed to happen.
“Ehhh you mess with time and it’ll tend to mess back” you heard Tony say behind you being followed by Steve. You sighed in slight relief seeing these two alive as well. “What has he been doing?” Steve asked, “Sitting and waiting” Thor replied, “let’s kill him properly this time” he added. You took a deep breath walking first towards Thanos, you had to kill him, no matter what.
“I’ve seen you haven’t been appreciative of what I have done for you all” Thanos spoke when you walked closer to him. “We should appreciate half of a world?” you snickered at him, “Would you like me to destroy it like yours then?” he remarked, “Not this time” you gritted running towards him with your sword. You heard the boys behind you following your lead, each of you fought against Thanos. You were gaining advantage until he knocked out Tony, throwing him on a boulder. It was Steve, Thor, and you fighting against Thanos, he pushed Thor against another boulder, he wasn’t unconscious though, now it was you and Steve. You ran back towards Thanos, he picked you up by your neck, almost squishing you, you felt your feet dangle, “You...will ....never...be a god” you gritted at him between the breathes you were taking. That pissed him off, he was about to punch you straight on when you heard a swishing sound beside you, causing you and Thanos to turn to see what it was, Steve had caught the Mjolnir! You felt excitement, you knew one day it would happen just not when exactly. Steve ran towards you and Thanos, Thanos threw you onto the floor in order to avoid Steve, this gave you leverage in catching your breath. You ran towards the two of them, Steve and you double teamed, he threw his shield at you so you could hit Thanos harder while he tried his best to attain the lightning against Thanos. Unfortunately you caught a hard hit from Thanos, knocking you out unconscious
-----------------------------------------
The sound of someone yelling woke you up, turning to your right Thor was laying down passed out, Tony was still out. You turned to your left to see Steve limping towards something, you looked up to find Thanos and his entire army walking towards you all. You got up slowly to make sure you didn’t have any serious injuries, not that it mattered any way with Thanos and his army outnumbering you. You walked to Steve’s side, you both knew what was to come, didn’t mean you wouldn’t go down without a fight. This was it you thought, the end of your life, you were so close to beating him. You looked up to Steve, staring into his blue eyes, “It has been an honor to be by your side Cap” you said as your voice broke, Steve didn’t say anything but he gave you a sorrowful smile. He hadn’t heard you call him Cap in so long, he wasn’t ready to die but he was glad to have a great friend by his side not turning against the fight. You turned back towards Thanos, “let’s give them hell” you said.
You made one step forward when you heard a faint sound in your earpiece. “Cap” it buzzed again, “on your left”, it was Sam’s voice. You quickly turned to look at Steve in astonishment, there was no way that could be Sam. You were wrong though, it was, you saw a portal open on the top left, sure enough Sam flew out over you and Steve. You then saw more portals opening one by one, each revealing everyone that had been dusted away. You let out a breath when you saw the kid from Queens that Tony had brought onto the team. You were looking for two more faces, Nat and surprisingly, Bucky’s face. You saw Bucky from a distance, you could tell it was him because of his hair and the type of gun he had, you felt an odd sensation of butterflies in your stomach seeing Bucky. You turned to look at Steve, he had tears in his eyes this time, he gave you a wink, you smiled back to him, tears were falling out of your eyes.
You all formed up in lines, the biggest team of Avengers ready to take on Thanos and his army. You heard Steve yell, “A-VENGERS.........” you saw the Mjolnir fly back to him catching it, “assemble”. You all ran forward; you, Steve, and Thor being the fastest you took the lead. You had so much anger in you, you felt like you were going to explode. You ran into the fight first, pulling out your spear to throw it at one straight ahead and then pulling out your sword....it was hunting season. “Ahhhhh” you gritted through your teeth every time you cut one of them through, blood was splattered all over you, you didn’t care, your mission was further ahead. You were deep into the fight when you heard someone call your name, it was Bucky, “Did you miss me doll?” he smirked at you, you rolled your eyes at him, “Don’t shoot at me this time Bucky” you teased.
You don’t know how long you were fighting but you were all getting closer to the quantum realm machine, you needed it to snap away Thanos and his army. You were about a dozen feet away from Thanos when you were thrown back onto the floor, someone landed it front of you, it was Wanda. “You took EVERYTHING from me” she said angrily to Thanos, “I don’t even know who you are” he replied. To say that Wanda was the most powerful one was an understatement, she had Thanos in the palm of her hand like nothing, it was too much for him apparently because he had his own army attacked to get Wanda to let him go.
You were close to Peter when you saw a bunch of debris falling towards him, you ran to his aid, using your own shield to cover him mostly. “Thanks” he gasped, “No problem kid”. You ran back towards Thanos but he kept throwing things to people you cared about to get you to cover for them. At one point you weren’t sure who you were covering for when you saw Tony move closely to Thanos, you knew you couldn’t move until the debris stopped falling all over. It was getting heavier by the second, all you could do was see Tony get a hold of the gauntlet.  “Tony NO!” you yelled, it was too late, the gauntlet formed around Tony’s hand, you saw him mumble something and then snap his fingers. In doing so, the winds picked up causing everything to fall down.
You sprinted towards Tony, holding him up, he looked up at you giving you a tired and sad smile, you looked down to see the damage on his body, it didn’t look good at all, half of it was completely burned. You placed him gently down, kneeling beside him, “Tony it was supposed to be me” you whispered to him, “you can not leave Tony” you said, your voice was breaking, Tony heard that, he didn’t say a word, only pointing a finger towards your heart. You caressed his face softly before placing a kiss on his forehead, you turned back to see Pepper, you didn’t say anything but your face told her everything, she had to say goodbye to the love of her life.
You got up, looking to face the others, you were trying to hold it in to look strong for them and Tony. “Where’s Thor?” you asked practically pleading to find him, you felt a pair of hands grab you pulling you into their chest, you thought it was Thor until you looked up to see Bucky. He looked at you, he had never seen you this way, you looked like you were going to break any second, the strongest warrior was going to break. “Shhh shhh doll” he said trying his best to soothe you, you didn’t realize it but you were almost hyperventilating, the last time you felt like this was when you lost your world, you were having a major panic attack. You opened your eyes again, trying to see through your tears, you caught back a glimpse of Tony, sitting there, his arc reactor was still on and then it shut down. You felt yourself drop, Tony Stark was gone from this world. Bucky held you tighter, rubbing your back while you let the tears drown out. “(Y/N)” you heard Thor’s voice right behind you, Bucky let go of you, as much as he wanted to sooth you, he knew Thor was a special person in your life. “Thor” you were sobbing once Thor hugged you, “he’s GONE”, you said, Bucky caught your last sentence to Thor, “It should have been ME” he heard you say.
-----------------------------------------
You were beyond exhausted, Thanos and his army were dusted away but you lost another great love in your life, Tony had become such an amazing friend, you couldn’t imagine your life without him, you never had. You were doing everything you could for Pepper to not worry about anything, “I just need you and Morgan to be okay” you would say to her, “thank you (Y/N)”. She was more than grateful to have you there, it gave her a sense of peace in knowing that you would watch over Morgan as if she were your own.
You guys walked down the steps of the Stark cabin towards the lake. You held Morgan’s hand while Happy guided Pepper ahead. Bucky wasn’t sure whether he should attend the funeral due to the situation with Tony but Steve had convinced him to go since everyone would be there, he even used you as an excuse. He saw you walking with Morgan, Tony’s daughter, you looked exhausted, sad, angry, everything was bottled up inside you. You saw Bucky at the far end looking at you, you smiled softly at him. Pepper and Happy arrived at the end of the dock where she let go of Tony’s original arc reactor that she had saved. You knelt down to be right next to Morgan, giving her a kiss on her head, Pepper reached her hand down to squeeze yours.
--------------------------------------------
Thor was planning on leaving with the Guardians, he and Rocket had asked you to come with them but you refused, “This world needs a suit of armor” you explained to them. You gave Thor a hug, “You know where to find me” you said, “And you’ll know where to find me. You be safe” he replied.
You walked away to head toward Steve, he had to return the stones so the timeline wouldn’t get weird again. You knew Steve was going to return but you also knew Steve would not entirely return as Steve. You walked up to him, Banner, Sam, and Bucky saying their goodbyes. “I’ll be okay” Steve said to you, “You be safe” you replied hugging him harder, “live that life Tony always talked about” you whispered, “Okay but give Bucky a chance” he whispered back causing you to chuckle. You pulled back to give him a kiss on the cheek, “I will miss you Steve” you said tearing up, he smiled at you and then walked over to say goodbye to his lifelong friend Bucky. You gave them their space, walking over to stand next to Sam, you and Sam didn’t really talk to each other but he rubbed your back, “You good?” he asked genuinely, “Hanging in there Sam” you replied.
Banner counted down to Steve leaving, then he was gone, he counted down for him to return, nothing happened. Bucky turned behind you and Sam, calling Sam over, you turned around to see someone else sitting on the bench a few feet away. You saw Sam walk over to him, it was Steve, you knew it. You heard the exchange between Sam and Steve, Sam looked over to you in confusion, Bucky nodded his head, you smiled at him, you could feel the tears again, you hadn’t cried this much in your life. You then saw Sam pick up the shield, it was time for a new Captain America, you knew Sam was the perfect choice.
You were sniffling quietly, “Are you crying again?” Bucky asked you, you avoided his gaze, wiping your tears away fast so he wouldn’t see them, “No” you muttered, “It sounded to me like you were” he said trying to make you laugh, “Shut up Barnes, lets go” you said pulling him with you, his eyes opened wide at you doing that, “Hey now let’s be nice” he teased you, you let him go but he did walk by your side towards Sam and Steve.
-----------------------------------------------
After working a few things out in New York, you had gone back to your home in Europe, you weren’t done with being an Avenger yet. You had stayed in touch with Bucky, he had asked for your number a few days after Steve handed over the shield to Sam. Bucky had been going to therapy and he was pardoned from his past crimes of being the Winter Soldier. You planned on staying in Europe for a while, as much as you had grown to like Bucky, you knew it wasn’t the right time to fall in love. You had to work things out on your own and you knew that Bucky had to work on his own things too, you guys however spoke on the phone a few times a week to check in on each other. One evening you were watching the news when you heard, “Breaking News, Avengers own Sam Wilson has come to the decision to turn in the shield over to the Smithsonian museum”, “SHIT” you said to yourself. You knew that Sam turning in the shield to the museum didn’t mean shit to the government, they were going to try to replace him in no time. You didn’t understand why Sam did it, only one way for you to find out....head back to the States.
You told Strange your idea for the experimental bonding ritual. As stubborn as you were, you weren’t going to hide things from the sorcerer again. You’d learned your lesson.
Strange, of course, shot it down. As did Wong. You already had Bucky’s answer on where he stood. The only person who supported you was a powerful, but still very dead, wizard.
Well… perhaps there were two beings on your side.
As you laid on your bed at the Sanctum, surrounded by open books and tomes while taking a break from studying to stare bleakly at the ceiling, something hopped onto the covers and gave the most obnoxious meow you’d ever heard.
You grabbed Monster and buried your face in his fur immediately, and when you asked, “You trust me with this whole binding magic, right?” he purred as loud as he could. That, if anything, convinced you that you were on the right track. How could you be wrong with a hobgoblin and a master sorcerer on your side?
Just as quickly, your newfound confidence fled and self-doubt crept in. You didn’t think you were wrong, but you did question your own ability to pull off such a complicated spell. You’d been allowed to read the red book, the one that had been used to bind Bucky to his HYDRA masters and then to Zemo, and thanks to your downloaded knowledge of Latin straight from Bucky’s brain into yours during your time in his head, you understood most of what was written.
Unfortunately, the people who had written it were not sorcerers, and power-hungry occultists trying to summon demons for personal gain weren’t exactly good instructors.
Wong’s knowledge of human slaves and demon masters was much more helpful. Between the two different types of rituals, the demon pact and the slave bond, you had a good idea of what was required. The human bond required an intent and willingness to be linked. The demon bond required the obsidian ritual knife and some strategic cutting.
For all these reasons and more, you wouldn’t even think about attempting it until you had Bucky’s full consent. It wouldn’t work without it anyway, and even if it did, you would never do that to him.
So that left you waiting for Bucky to say “yes” to something he would never agree to. At least it gave you plenty of time to research and train. There was no rush aside from the fact that Bucky would be in danger if anyone knew of his existence. Aside from those at the Sanctum and the Avengers (Steve Rogers had filled them in), there was no one else who knew.
No one else… but Zemo.
You’d gotten the impression that aside from the Alp, who had ended up being your ally after all, Zemo worked alone. And currently, he was being kept locked up somewhere under the wizards’ watchful eye.
It was a cold comfort, and if your luck held, it was only a matter of time before someone came after Bucky again. The target on your own back wasn’t entirely gone, either. You were no longer bonded to Bucky, but you were still the closest person to him, even if he was avoiding you still.
At least this time around if someone tried to kidnap you, you’d be more than prepared to deal with them. What were other people compared to a planet full of demons?
Despite the distraction and exhaustion of training, you still had the ability to linger on the pain of Bucky’s absence. It showed in your flagging energy and attention, and Wong must have taken pity on you, because they next thing you knew he was half-shoving a cloth bag into your hands.
“Barnes has not picked up his next dose of potion. You will deliver it to him.”
“Oh. ‘Kay.” You blinked and gave Wong a funny look, not really understanding what he was thinking, but then he stopped you with a hand on your shoulder.
“But only if you can travel there by portal.”
Ah. There was the catch. Out of all the magic you’d been able to grasp, from fiery ropes to conjuring weapons out of thin air, you had yet to summon another portal. Strange called it a block. You called it home-grown PTSD from a dismembered demon corpse falling on top of you.
You sighed and pulled the sling ring out of your pocket, slipped it on, and tucked the cloth bag under one arm. You focused your mind, made all the correct hand movements, and big surprise, the training room you were standing in remained unchanged.
“Guess I’ll take a taxi,” you said with a small smile and a shrug.
Wong merely shook his head, gave you the I’m disappointed in you look, before pulling out his own ring, made a circular motion with both arms, and opened an orange portal as if it was as easy as breathing.
You almost rolled your eyes and made a smartass comment, but the image in the portal snapped your mouth shut. Even though it was around noon, Bucky’s loft was dark. The shades must have been drawn, and even when you narrowed your eyes you couldn’t see past the dim outline of the couch.
You remembered to give a mumbled “thanks” to your mentor before stepping through the ring. The familiar heat ruffled your hair and you took a sharp breath as your stomach rolled at the sudden change in physical space.
The portal fizzled out behind you, leaving you alone in the darkness. Or… not entirely. There was a dark outline sitting on the edge of the bed, and you threw out a quick spell to ascertain all the energies of the room.
Bucky’s energy felt a lot like the way he smelled. Warm, solid, and earthy. The demonic energy was there as well, but it wasn’t like any other demon you’d come across. There was nothing in his signature that felt dangerous or insidious. He was just Bucky. Your Bucky.
And he was hurting.
You moved closer, making sure to cause plenty of noise so you wouldn’t startle him.
“I brought the potion,” you announced, probably unnecessarily. You remembered how potent the stuff smelled with your demon senses. “Wong said you were late.”
Bucky said nothing nor did he move from the bed. Your eyes were slowly adjusting to the dim light, and you walked closer, unsure how to proceed. Your last conversation had ended poorly, and you had no idea how to bridge the gap between you.
But even when words failed the both of you, there was always one thing that would work.
Crawling onto the bed, you drew up behind Bucky, eyeing his wings. They were half-open and drooping on the covers, lifeless in a way that arrested your heart. You reached out and hesitated.
You can always touch me.
Did that still apply now? You didn’t know, but you trusted Bucky’s past words over your own self-doubt.
Slow enough that he could stop you if he wanted, you knelt behind him and leaned forward, wrapping your arms around his neck as you carefully drooped over his back between his wings.
A shiver ran through him at the same moment his tail wrapped around your waist, pulling you closer. It was all the encouragement you needed, and you nudged your cheek against Bucky’s hair, having to duck under his pointy horns so they wouldn’t jab you.
“You don’t have to talk,” you said, surprising yourself by speaking first. “But I wanted to tell you a couple of things. Things I should have said before.”
Just like that, the tension was back in his muscles. You wanted to loosen them, to soothe him and make him feel safe the way he did for you. And that’s why you had to come clean with the whole truth.
“First, I’m sorry for our last conversation. I know with your history, the idea of me being involved with demonic magic is… well. I can’t imagine what you’re feeling, to be honest. But I can promise you I won’t bring up the binding ritual again, if that’s what you want.”
Bucky didn’t say anything, but his tail squeezed you even tighter. All in all, a good sign.
“And… the other thing…”
You heart raced too fast, and there was no doubt he could feel it against his back. You were nauseous from the strength of your nerves, but you forced out the words, even if they were the most difficult you’d ever said.
“I love you.”
If you thought Bucky had been tense before, it was nothing compared to the stone solid way he froze now. But the words were too late to take back, and once they were said, things would be forever changed.
You were counting on it.
“I think I’ve loved you for a while now.” Your voice was quiet, words measured and weighed with importance. “I’m not sure when it happened, but I know I became aware of it after you saved me from the heigore. It wasn’t even because of that. It was what came after. When I woke up and you were there. You’d fallen asleep, waiting for me. Not leaving my side. And seeing you like that, letting yourself be vulnerable with me…”
You half-buried your face in his hair, surrounding yourself in his scent. It might be the last time you could.
“Whether or not there’s ever another magical bond, I’m bound to you regardless. Spells and rituals won’t change that. But I know that… that my introduction to this world was a lot different than yours. And if being around me, if being with me is going to… going to hurt you, then I… I’m willing to say goodbye, right now, if that’s what we decide.”
By the end, your voice was flat and monotone, almost lifeless with how much it pained you to say the words. It hurt so much more than you thought, as if your heart was being squeezed and twisted right out of your chest.
You didn’t even have a chance to ask him if that’s what he wanted; you were pulled into his lap, Bucky’s nose buried in your neck as his arms gripped you tightly, possessively. Even his wings had fully unfurled, and he wrapped them very tightly around you.
And his tail, pulled from your waist, wrapped around your own tail until they were completely entwined.
You couldn’t move or even breathe as Bucky inhaled you deeply, still nudging the side of his face into your neck. A snippet from a book on demonic behavior sprang to mind, that he was scenting you, making sure you smelled like him and warding off other demons from what belonged to him.
That’s what the intellectual side thought. The primal side, both mammalian and the small part that was demonic, made you tilt your head to the side to give him further access. Bucky had rarely let this side of him come out before, and it surprised you how easy and natural it was. It felt right.
Either way, you had your answer. At the thought of staying, of truly staying and being with Bucky in all the ways you could offer him, something clicked into place. A piece of yourself that had been missing for most of your life.
“I love you, too.” His words were heavy, raspier than usual. “So much that it scares me.”
“I know,” you said softly. “It’s overwhelming sometimes.”
“Think that describes our lives in a nutshell, sweetheart.”
You leaned in closer, rubbing your own cheek against his neck. You didn’t know if you could scent him the same way he could scent you, but the effect was still worth it. Bucky shuddered and held you tighter.
“But I would do it all over again,” you murmured. “For the first time, I feel like I’m where I’m supposed to be. And I’m excited about the future. Do you know how big that is for me?”
Bucky rubbed his hands up and down your back.
“About actually looking forward to tomorrow instead of just going through the motions?” He pulled you back far enough to cup your face in his hands, meeting your eye with a soft smile. “Yeah. Think I can relate.”
You almost pushed away his hands so you could kiss him like you’d wanted to do for weeks, but he beat you to it. Soft, warm lips pressed to yours, sweet and chaste at first, before you deepened the kiss with a raw, hungry moan. And then you were reminded which one of you was actually hungry as Bucky grabbed you by the hips and slotted you firmly in his lap.
Before you could get his jacket halfway unzipped down his chest, Bucky broke the kiss with a heavy sigh.
You chased his mouth, frustrated, but he only chuckled and held you back by the shoulders.
“As much as I would love to keep going,” he said, toothy smile peeking out from between his lips, “I also don’t want to feed on you to the point of passing out, which is most likely what would happen.”
“And? You say that like it’s a problem.”
He looked at you so fondly you struggled not to look away.
“If you’re passed out ‘til the morning, I won’t be able to hear about this master plan of yours.”
You gaped like a fish, and then the silent gaping turned into a startled squeak when he gripped you by the thighs and lifted you up, standing before you in one motion.
“I’ve got enough potion to get me through the week.” He took you by the hand and led you into the kitchen, grabbing the bag you’d brought along the way, and you went with him, too stunned to resist. “So while I prepare it, I want you to tell me what you have so far. I might even have something helpful to add from what I can remember from the rituals.”
When he released your hand, you remained where you were, frozen next to the kitchen counter.
Bucky didn’t seem to notice at first, too busy with pulling out the mortar and pestle and dumping the contents of the pouch into the bowl. The silence continued to stretch and he looked up, his tail slightly swaying behind him like a curious cat.
Your own tail was frozen behind you, pulled up and stiff.
“What’s wrong?”
“You…” You took a hard swallow. “…Want me to tell you… about my plan?”
He exhaled through his nose, put down his utensils, and came over to you to cup his hands very carefully around either side of your jaw.
“Yes.” He met your eye, without reluctance or hesitation. “I want to hear everything. If I’m going to trust you, I need to trust you completely, and stop letting my self-doubts get in the way.”
You didn’t move or speak, simply stared up at him in awe, transfixed as his gaze roamed over your face.
“Everything bad that happens to us, happens when we’re apart. Maybe it’s a goddamn sign we shouldn’t be apart,” he said, drawing you closer. “Maybe the Ancient One knew what she was doing when she told you what she did. Maybe I should stop running away each time I’m scared. And maybe, I should trust the person who pulled me out of Hell, saving not just my life… but my soul, too.”
He pulled you close so that your horns were gently touching.
“How does that sound, sweetheart?”
“I think,” you said, breathless but somehow finding your voice. “That’s a great idea.”
You swallowed, every fiber of your being tingled as Bucky’s mouth was just out of reach.
“I also think that if you don’t go make that potion right now, I’m not going to be able to keep my hands off you much longer.”
You felt more than saw his grin as he captured your lips, hard and demanding and pulling away too soon, drawing out a frustrated growl from you. The shit-eating grin was still there as he pulled away and returned to his potion, but you got your revenge when you hugged him from behind and grasped his squirming tail in one hand. His full-body shudder and muttered curse under his breath was payback enough.
But once Bucky drank his potion, a concoction that still made a part of you balk at the foul smell, you told him everything. All the research you’d done, your ideas on how the ritual could work, and what you hoped the result would be.
Bucky listened, adding his own thoughts and ideas, and when the sun finally peeked over the snowy skyline you were back in his bed, falling asleep in his arms.
The place you knew in your heart you were meant to be.
