There were still things that put the Chain on edge.
Surprisingly; because they'd been through some wild stuff, individually and together.
Sudden appearance of a portal? They could handle that. They'd gotten almost used to it, by now. Only almost, but almost.
No, the weird part, which made the nine heroes draw out their swords in the blink of an eye to point their blades at the brand new threat and Skull Kid's pupils thin into slits as they hid behind their larger friends' legs, was that from the strange gateway into who knows what dimension emerged a being they weren't even sure they could have ever dreamed, not even after the biggest, most uncoordinated, stomach-ache worthy supper of their lives.
Its elongated head was bone white, with red eyes and an enormous mouth of teeth; its body seemed at first deathly emaciated beneath the dark mantle, but a more careful look revealed that it was more or less only a skeleton - a metallic one at that, with incomplete hands and sharp feet, similar to the talons of a bird of prey.
Whatever the hell that thing was looked at them nice and long, taking them in one by one.
"Oh," he finally said, clanging his horrible teeth together in dismay: "Oh, you are hideous. Disgusting, even."
"Never look in a mirror then," Four quipped: "You'll get a heart attack."
"A mirror? Why would I do that? Ah, I see, I see, that's an insult, I understand - but you see, you horrible fleshy thing," the stranger replied with no apparent malice in his voice, in a rambling tone, "I have seen myself - well, not since this mask was fused to my head, but I have, and you will have to understand that while I do indeed have a horrendous face not even my own other half could love, you are made entirely of meat. Of flesh. Of organic material. No such thing as a piece of metal on your bodies except for your swords. No masks at all. Not even a glimmer of iron on you - although I do like your fabrics, I do, they'd make for quite a nice cape, and - oh, you do have armor, yes, you do, that you do... You won't mind me taking it all from you once I'm done killing you all, will you?"
The nine of them tightened the grip on their weapons, making them glint in the sunlight.
"I'll take it as a maybe."
Wind glared at him up and down a couple times: "What even are you?"
"A Skakdi, or the half of one, to be more precise," the being answered as if any of that made perfect sense. He turned to Time: "You should be shorter. And less meaty. And less appalling, but only slightly."
"Funny. I don't think we've ever met." the older warrior replied curtly.
"We haven't? Oh, I suppose we would not have, not here. Such a shame, truly. I didn't like that other you at all. I would have hoped not to meet another one in the next place I ended up in."
"Sucks to be you."
"Indeed it sucks."
"And you got a name?" pressed Four a little more rudely than usual. "Or at least half of one?"
The creature paused. His strange hand tapped on his chin pensively, as though he honestly needed to think about it for a couple seconds.
"A name, a name, a name..." he mumbled, until finally he seemed to remember: "Ah! Of course I do, of course. I gave it to me myself, after all - it's Vezon, with a Z, which means double, because I am a double, ripped away from a big blue brute, Vezok, also with a Z--"
"With a K," Sky corrected.
Legend elbowed him.
"What?" Vezon asked.
"Vezok with a K," Hyrule repeated helpfully.
Legend elbowed him as well.
From threatening and unpredictable, their opponent completely shifted his demeanor: now he stood a little hunched, arms limp down his sides, head tilted, face a bit scrunched into a confused expression.
"Yes, I do know Vezok is spelled with a K. My name is Vezon, though."
"You mentioned Vezon with a Z, but Vezok also has a Z." Sky explained.
"Yes, I know that too."
"That's not a difference."
"I'm aware. What is your point?
This time it was Hyrule who clarified: "If you don't want us to call you Vezok, you should specify that Vezon is spelled with an N and Vezok is spelled with a K."
"Why would I do that?"
"Because that's the difference between the two names. It sets them apart."
Vezon seemed floored.
"I did not think about that," he admitted. "That does seem more useful."
"This guy tells us upfront he wants to kill us to loot our corpses and you start arguing with him on spelling?" Warriors took the chance to hiss at his fellow heroes while the creature was distracted.
Sky raised his shoulders defensively: "It made no sense! It was bugging me!"
Wild, who had some amount of brain damage due to caramelizing for about a hundred years in the rebirth oil, decided he had enough experience on the matter to ask the half Skakdi with a hint of genuine concern: "Are you like. Alright?"
"Oh, yes!" the being replied: "I am insane."
That did explain a variety of things.
Skull Kid (who, as they were wont to do, had snuck away from their friends so quietly that their absence had gone completely undetected in order to investigate possibly deadly things on their own) sniffed at Vezon's arm. Based on their furrowed expression and squinted eyes, the scent was less than enjoyable.
The mechanical creature turned to them, and widened his awful grin.
"My dear! You still look the same! Sort of," he croaked out almost happily. His incomplete hand prodded at the wooden head, specifically interested in the mouth area: "You're still non organic. Mostly, I mean, you still have all that horrid plant-life on you, but you're not as immensely horrid as these fellows here... You are much shorter though. And much quieter. And you still don't have a mouth, do you? Ah, such a shame, such a shame, I was hoping in one of these universes you'd have a nice set of teeth for once, you know - maybe I would manage to rip them out of you nice and clean so I can jam them in your jaw once I finally get the chance to pry your skull open and-"
Skull Kid's razor sharp teeth bit down on his palm.
Vezon's head glowed suddenly: he barely had time to shriek a blood-curling A-- that he was already gone, disappearing in the fraction of a second.
The imp's teeth clattered close around the empty air. They looked around, confused.
Nope. The guy wasn't coming back.
"Well," Twilight hollered loudly to break the silence: "Guess that's over."
"Did the Goddesses just think it was getting a little chummy around here? Did they figure we were getting bored and so threw... That, at us?" Four wondered aloud in genuine bewilderment.
"He tastes like metal." Skull Kid informed them. "And he has tendons."
"That's great, Sweet Pea."
"I think I have some in my mouth."
"Ah, fuck-"
"Again?"
"Here, come over here..."

I Promise
Pairing: Loki x Reader
Warnings: pregnancy issues, angst, broken heart
Summary: Loki abandons reader at the hospital during a scary moment during pregnancy because of his own fears and insecurities. He ends up truly hurting the reader after the break up and regrets it thoroughly. Will she forgive him for his actions and allow him in her and her child’s lives?
————
-YOUR POV-
"Y/N please..." I slammed the door in his face and locked it. I sighed knowing he just teleported inside and was right behind me.
"I owe you nothing." I spat through my teeth. "You fucking left me when I was scared and in pain. I have nothing left to say to you. Nothing left to hear from you." I refused to face him as I rubbed my swollen belly.
"Y/N I..."
"GET OUT! LEAVE US ALONE! YOU HAVE DONE IT SO WELL THESE PAST 6 MONTHS!"
—6 months ago—
"I can't believe it Darling, you are almost through the first trimester!" Loki cheered. I smiled at him. Ever since I told him I was pregnant, he has been nothing but excited. Making plans for the nursery already and he cannot seem to keep his hands off of my belly.
"That's good because I would love to be able to eat without the immense nausea or the vomiting that follows." Loki kissed my temple and played with my hair. That was the last second we had that was full of love. I screamed as a I felt a sharp pain. I looked under the covers as it felt wet and there was blood. "L-L-Loki?" I also started feeling cold. Loki looked at me as if in disgust but he took me to the hospital. He held my hand as I feared the worst. The doctor left after doing the initial checking to run the tests.
"I can't believe you are losing our child..." Loki said in a whisper. I felt tears prick my eyes as I sniffled. Loki then left before hearing the results. I was having a subchorionic hemorrhage. The baby was perfectly fine. I hailed a cab and once I got home it was like our time together never existed. Loki had moved out. Sore and in pain I decided to take a shower and go to bed.
"We don't need him. Mama's got you."
—Present—
"Please... I'm so sorry... I want to be in your lives and..." I turned and smacked him across the face.
"I said get out. I won't ask again." I felt it getting cold again and there was that same look of disgust. I found out that whenever I get cold I start to take on a Jotun form since our... my child is half Jotun. I laughed crudely at his disgusted face. "You haven't changed at all you are still disgusted with my body when it changes to make MY child more comfortable. As I said... I won't ask again." My powers then started resonating from my hands. Loki looked at me as if I just broke his heart.
"Your child... they are OUR child!" He roared.
"YOU LEFT ME! YOU LEFT US WHEN I WAS SCARED AND IN PAIN!!! WHEN MY CHILD COULD HAVE BEEN DYING! YOU LOST THE RIGHT TO CALL HER YOUR CHILD!" I screamed.
-LOKI'S POV-
"H-Her?" She laughed again.
"Yes I am having a little girl and I sure as hell won't let a man who blames a woman for something she can't control be her father." Suddenly Thor burst through the door.
"Brother she doesn't want to see you. Leave before she makes you..." Thor gave her a sympathetic look.
"Oh I see..." I snarled. "You moved on to my brother." Her eyes turned red, completing a Jotun form. I was never disgusted with her in this form but with myself for making her into this.
"That's it..." She blasted me with her powers and sent me flying into her living room. She snarled at me and growled. "YOU REALLY THINK ME AS SOME WHORE?! THAT'S WHAT I DO RIGHT?! BREAK HEARTS AND THEN FIND THE NEXT ONE?! Oh wait... that's you. When I come out of my room I want you gone." She stormed to her room, tears streaming down her face, and slammed the door shut. Thor sighed and helped me up.
"She saw you with Amora a week after you left her at the hospital... she came to the compound looking for you, she came to fix things, and saw you two on the couch and left... she blamed herself for a month." Thor explained. I scoffed and looked away but I felt immensely guilty. "What you did brother... that wasn't love, I don't know if it was fear or doubt but if you want to at least be in your daughter's life then this isn't the way to go about it..." I look down and sigh knowing he was right.
——
A week passed and I knock on Y/N's door again. I bought blankets for Y/N since she loves them and I know she will be getting cold more often once the baby is born. I brought her her favorite sweets and a couple onesies for our daughter. Her door opens but no one is there.
"I don't know who's here but I'm stuck on the couch!" I enter and close the door. I slowly creep in, unsure if she will chuck something at me. "Relax, Uncle Thor told us you were coming. I won't bite your head off." She said in a almost sing song voice as she rubbed her stomach.
"Us?"
"Yeah. My daughter and I." The apartment was cold and she wasn't in a Jotun form. "I didn't want you to be disgusted as we should talk... so if it's cold I have learned the Jotun form stays at bay."
"I could never be disgusted with you." I blurt out. She scoffs.
"Right that's why you blamed me, ran away, and moved on to someone else so quickly." She reached her hands out to me. "Make yourself useful and help me up."
—YOUR POV—
After helping me up I groaned. My back has been sore the entire pregnancy as I tried to stretch my back. I am still bitter about everything but after Loki left the other night, Thor and I talked. Loki does deserve the right to at least try and be in my daughter's life.
"Ill hear you out." Loki looked at me with hopeful eyes and dropped the bag in his hand and fell to his knees, wrapping his arms around my waist, and pressing his forehead to my stomach.
"I'm so so so so incredibly sorry... I... I was so scared my love... I honestly don't know what I was thinking and the disgust you saw on my face wasn't disgust of you but disgust of myself for doing this to you and putting you through all of this. I thought it best to make you hate me so this could never happen to you again by my hands." I just stared at him as he stood up. He had tears in his eyes.
"But it's fine to put that girl Amora through it. Ya know, the one you said to not worry about throughout our entire relationship." Loki sighed and sniffled but didn't look away.
"I truly was a fool Y/N I have no excuses for my actions... I handled this all wrong and you were right yesterday, I left you and our daughter over my fears and something you couldn't control while you were scared and in pain." I turned around, not wanting him to see the tears falling from my eyes. "Amora and I only kissed... nothing more. I haven't seen her or anyone for that matter since that day on the couch. Shortly after I heard that the baby was fine and I wanted to run to you but I knew I didn't deserve it."
"You missed everything Loki... the ultrasounds, appointments, the baby shower, and the gender reveal..." I hugged myself as my voice cracked.
"I know..."
"Her first kick... the Braxton Hicks contractions..." I couldn't breath. I had everything bottled up for so long. "The constant worrying that my body was hurting her... the mood swings..." I suddenly was turned around and pulled into his embrace. He buried his face into the crook of my neck as I felt his tears.
"I know... I missed everything and left you both all alone. I hurt you so deeply and I want to fix it. Whatever you decide we will do my love, I swear it." I began to full blown sob. All the pain and hurt I felt pouring out. Loki didn't let go and rocked us back and forth.
"You blamed me Loki..." I whimpered out. "I would never... I... I..."
"I know... I know... I'm so sorry... it's my greatest regret..." He cooed. "We will take it as slow as you want and I will woo you back and I will show you that I'm here for the both of you until the end of my days. Even if that means you fall for another Y/N. Whatever will make you happiest we will do."
-LOKI'S POV-
She let me move into the spare room of our old apartment. We picked a 3 bedroom so we each had our own office. The fact that she never moved out baffled me. The nursery was set up and the colors were pastel green, pink, and gold. It was truly beautiful and my heart ached knowing I wasn't here. I felt a hand on my own, she was due any day now and Y/N agreed to have me in the room with her while she is giving birth.
"I... um... d-didn't set up her bookcase... nor did I finish organizing her dresser.... Will you help me?" Her face held the lightest blush. I opened the dresser that was perfectly organized yesterday, a complete mess and the book case in the corner was dismantled when it was set up yesterday as well. I smiled to myself, she was truly giving me a chance here.
"I would love to Darling." She cleared her throat and walked up to me.
——
A couple days went by and Y/N was growing more uncomfortable. She groaned as she walked around the apartment. She would hug onto me more, especially while she cried, but then she was scared after her water broke. She started hyperventilating and I kissed her forehead.
"Promise you won't leave me... us?" She then cried out in pain.
"I promise my love. I won't leave my girls ever again."

What You Fight About
part 2
Tumblr media
A/N: just something I thought about
Headcanon: what you two would fight about the most
Warnings: toxic behaviors, yelling, cursing, angst
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Midoriya Izuku:
his absence
being the number one hero is demanding
it’s also been his dream since he could remember
you understood that, but that didn’t mean it didn’t frustrate you when he’d disappear for days at a time
izuku tries to balance his job and home life
but it isn't enough
~~~
You and Izuku don’t fight much. In fact, you never really do. You’re both so compromising that disagreements rarely happen.
But when your kid is involved, that complacency slips away. Even when it comes to one another.
“I’m done talking about this.”
“Honey, why won’t you just listen to me?” he begged, but the irritation in his tone gave it more sharpness than he intended. “[S/N] doesn’t need the tutor. It’s just the teacher.”
You began to pick up the leftover toys from floor more so to expel pent up energy rather than to simply clean. You scoffed, shaking your head. “You don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Excuse me?” Midoriya snipped. His eyes followed you as you discarded the toys and crossed your arms beside the couch, finally giving him your attention. “I think I know my own son, Y/N.”
Izuku cared so much for your child and you knew that. But that underlying message your brain processed within his words pissed you off.
“And you think I don’t?”
“I just don’t think you’re giving him enough credit.”
An incredulous laugh left your lips before they moved into a frown. “He’s failing 4th grade, Izuku. We can’t move him to a different classroom every time he gets a bad grade. At some point, we have to take responsibility! He needs the extra help!”
“You just don’t understand,” the hero muttered, running a hand through his hair.
What he said shouldn’t have set you off, but it did. Everything suddenly flooded your head. All the stress you had to deal with alone bubbled up your throat and exploded.
“No, you don’t understand!”
“Yes I do!”
“How!? You’re barely in his fucking life anyways!”
It went silent shortly after that.
The outburst felt good, but the aftermath made your squeeze with guilt. Izuku’s frown softened into shock before melting into something deeper than pain.
Once your words finally processed through your head, you immediately tried to take it back.
“Izuku, I didn’t mean that—”
“Yes you did.”
You thickly swallowed and averted your eyes to the floor. He was right. You did. You’d been wanting to say it for so long, but this wasn’t the way you planned to deliver those thoughts.
Your gaze moved back to your husband once he gathered his duffle bag and slid on his shoes.
“Baby,” you sighed, your voice much softer than before. It was almost insane how easily the anger left you. “Where are you going?”
You wilted with his next words. “I’ll stay over at the agency. To give you some space. We’ll talk more after we’ve both cooled down,” he sadly smiled.
Despite the hurt silver-lining his green eyes, Midoriya softly held your chin and kissed your forehead. Something he always did when your disagreements didn’t end on a good note. As if to reassure you that, even though he was upset, he still loved you all the same.
And that just made you feel worse.
“’Zuku—”
“Don’t worry about [S/N]. I’ll take him to school tomorrow.” He paused to look you in your eyes. “I love you, always.”
“I love you too,” you quietly resigned and watched him disappear behind the front door leaving you to let your head fall into your hands.
Tumblr media
Bakugo Katsuki
his jealousy
bakugo is confident in many areas of his life
it’s one of his qualities that won you over
but he still had those tiny insecurities that showed up in large ways
aka losing you
and he had no idea how to handle it
~~~
The alcohol probably wasn’t a good idea considering Bakugo was already noticeably pissed on the way to the house party. But everyone assumed it was just another one of his moods he’d get over sooner or later. He wasn’t a drinker, but a beer or two usually loosened him up.
However, your friends looked at each other with worry behind the door to the room you two were in. Despite the party lights and booming stereo, they could hear the angry muffled yelling you two were doing.
You were 100% drunk, but you were 110% sure this man was telling you to stay away from your friend. Your best friend.
“If it’s one thing you have, it’s the audacity,” you sassily quipped.
“I’m not fucking playing around with you, Y/N,” Bakugo snapped with too much bite than you cared to hear. “I want you to stay away from that two-bagged eyed bastard!”
“You always do this! Shinsou’s my friend!”
The redness in his ears wasn’t only from the drinks as his nostrils flared with barely contained irritation. “Friend my ass. You didn’t see the way he was looking at you, and that fucker had the nerve to grab you in front of me!”
“He was moving me out of the way!”
“He fucking felt you up is what he did!”
You smacked your teeth, entirely done with the argument. You weren’t getting anywhere. “Now you’re just being delusional.”
Bakugo pinched the bridge of his nose and blew out in a desperate attempt to calm himself. A feat even he was surprised about considering the situation. He tried so hard to not be as explosive, to reign in his emotions, for you. But his jealousy burned hot within his veins.
“Y/N. I’m asking you, as your man, to put some distance between you and Shinsou,” he lowly warned.
Maybe it was the wrong thing to say, but the words flew out of your mouth before you could stop them. “Like hell I will. Hitoshi’s been here longer than you have by years. I’m not gonna drop him just because you feel insecure.”
That withered away any form of self-restraint Katsuki had left. He felt exposed and hurt. And dealt with that the best way he knew how.
His hazy brain clouded over with anger and he went on the defensive.
“I bet you want him.”
“What? No I don’t?”
“You’re probably sleeping with him behind my fucking back,” he dryly laughed. “Am I not good enough anymore? Is that it?”
You were quickly sobering up. “What the fuck is wrong with you!? Of course not! I’m not a cheater!”
“Then why won’t cut him off, damn it!?”
Your voices rose in volumes too high for comfort. The crackle in his palms didn’t scare you one bit, but it was enough for Kirishima and Mina to come in and try to separate you two.
You ignored their pleading and the two of your found each other in the other’s face.
“Why are you so jealous!?”
“BECAUSE HE’S TAKING YOU AWAY FROM ME!!”
“NO HE’S NOT!
“IT’S SO EASY FOR YOU TO DEFEND HIM AND PROBABLY JUST AS EASY FOR YOU TO SPREAD YOUR FUCKING LEGS—"
A resounding slap cut him short. That seemed to snap him out of whatever alcohol induced rage he was in. However, Bakugo only had a moment to register your expression of disgust before Kirishima pulled him away.
“Fuck you, asshole” was the last thing you said before Mina lead into the hallway.
Kirishima watched his friend’s breathing turn ragged with each puff.
“Come on, man. Let’s just—”
“FUCK!” Katsuki roared before throwing a nearby water bottle to the floor. He fisted his hair and clenched his teeth.
He messed up. Big time.
And as upset as he was with himself, he couldn’t help but be even angrier at the thought of who you’d run to first.
Tumblr media
Todoroki Shouto:
how blunt he is
he was a bit socially inept and you loved him for that
but sometimes, you get frustrated
todoroki does too because 9 times out of 10 he doesn’t understand why
when you get angry, he completely shuts down bc he doesn’t know how to handle it any other way
and it didn’t help that he was petty asf
~~~
“Okay.”
You looked up and folded your lips in a tight line. It was the same monotone answer he’d been giving you all day and it was getting on your nerves.
“Sho, baby, can you at least try and act like you somewhat care about this vacation we’re planning,” you said as sweetly as possible.
Although you were annoyed, you understood that things flew over your boyfriend’s head sometimes and, hopefully, a little nudge would point him in the right direction.
“I’m listening, prince(ss),” he dimly responded.
He didn’t bother to look up from the papers he was reading at the table and it made you huff. Folding up the magazine, you just stalked your way out of the kitchen.
“You know what? Don’t even bother. I’ll do it myself.”
That made Shouto look up. His brows furrowed in confusion and he caught your hand before you could completely pass by him. Why were you suddenly upset? He told you he was listening.
“Hey, wait. What’s wrong? Did I do something?” he asked.
You let him pull you in between his legs. He looked genuinely lost and it was enough to soften your exterior.
“I just feel like you don’t care sometimes,” you said, deciding to just be blunt.
“Huh?” he hummed. “What do you mean?”
You shrugged. “I don’t know…it just seems like you don’t have an interest in anything I have to say if it doesn’t involve hero work, your family, or something like that.”
Todoroki took offense to that. Of course he cared about what you had to say. He loved you. Just because he wasn’t gripping on to every word you spoke in mundane life didn’t mean he didn’t care.
There were ways to express his thoughts, but Shouto wasn’t always the best at gently doing it.
“I’m sorry, but I don’t agree,” he said.
You looked off to the side for a second before looking down at him. “Well that’s how I feel,” you retorted.
“I’m sorry you feel that way, but you’re wrong.”
You watched him for a moment, waiting for him to explain himself. However, he just stared back at you as if there was nothing else left to say. The silence was sickening.
You snatched your hand out his grip. “Okay, Shouto,” you bit and left.
He hadn’t heard his first name in a while.
Your boyfriend dumbly blinked already feeling more lost. He didn’t understand why you were so angry.
He called Midoriya about it and was told he was being intolerant. The entire conversation honestly made him feel like an asshole and Todoroki didn’t like that at all. So he gave you some space before finding you in the kitchen again, this time equipped to right his wrongs—even though he still wasn’t entirely sure what he did.
He called your name once and instead of responding, you just kept going about your task. That sort of miffed him, but he tried again. This time, you hummed back but the tension behind it made him feel defensive for some odd reason.
“Can we talk about this morning?”
“What? Are my feelings suddenly valid to you now?” you sarcastically replied.
Todoroki raised a sharp brow at your attitude and decided he was over it already. Here he was trying to apologize, and you were being difficult. He wouldn’t fight with you over something so insignificant.
“Fine. When you’re done with your little tantrum, we can talk about this like adults.”
You’d never spun around so quickly. “Really, Todoroki?”
Last name basis. Petty.
But he was even pettier.
“Yes, really, [L/N].”
His half-lidded bored stare made your scalp prickle.
“Fine. Me and my little tantrum are gonna go somewhere and you can plan the vacation all by yourself like the adult you are.”
“Fine. I’d probably get it done faster anyways.”
You let out an offended gasp. “Fine!”
“Fine!” he tsked, crossing his arms.
You two looked away from one another and stomped out of the room in childish anger.
#5 (hiccstrid) for the Kiss prompt pweaase😚
5. Angry Kiss
Hiccup was silent the entire way back, and Astrid could barely stomach the guilt swarming inside her gut. Not only did he strictly ordered everyone at the Edge to lay low and not follow Viggo and Ryker's ship after spotting it in the distance, but she knew he expected much better from her after she deliberately went behind his back to do exactly what he said not to.
She thought she could handle a simple stakeout to discover where they were going, but against her better judgement, she had fallen straight into the brothers' trap, almost losing her life and Stormfly's in the process.
Thankfully, though, Hiccup discovered she was missing not too long after she and Stormfly left and wasted no time in flying after her. If it wasn't for Toothless' quiet speed and Hiccup's determination to find her, she could have drowned into the depths of the ocean.
Astrid was in no shape to fly back home on Stormfly after the injuries she sustained from Ryker's gruesome interrogation so she had no choice but to hang onto Hiccup as he flew Toothless away from Viggo's blown-up ship with Stormfly following behind. Halfway to the Edge, Hiccup lowered Toothless onto a small island.
Astrid finally spoke. "Hiccup?"
The Chief's son slid off of Toothless' back and helped Astrid down before answering her in a quiet, clipped voice. "We're stopping here for the night. We're both exhausted, and I can tell you're about to pass out, and I absolutely don't need to fish you out of the water again.... so... we'll camp out in that cave over there," he pointed past Astrid's shoulder. She turned around to see what he was talking about and quietly nodded, not wanting to upset Hiccup any further.
She slowly trailed behind him with Stormfly as her walking aide as he marched forward with Toothles next to him. Astrid had almost stumbled a few times, but Stormfly was quick to keep her from flying forward.
When they were closing in on the cave, Hiccup sent Toothless in for some reconnaissance to make sure the cave was free of threats. When Astrid stabilized herself with a large boulder, she also sent Stormfly in to assist Toothless should he need it.
Without warning, Hiccup stormed towards her, planting himself a few feet in front of her. After a chilling, quiet moment, the Shield Maiden finally took courage and met her boyfriend's angry, fiery eyes.
"What were you thinking, Astrid?" His tone was short but measured as if he was trying to keep himself from shouting at her. She wished he would, though. She deserved shouting. When she didn't answer him, he continued. "For the life of me, I can't understand why you would deliberately disobey my orders and go after Viggo and Ryker. You're my second in command. You should have known better!"
"I know," was all she could say.
"Then why? Do you... Do you just think I throw orders around for the hel of it?"
Astrid slowly shook her head.
"Then why?"
Astrid inhaled a sharp breath and winced from the twinge in her ribs. "Because I didn't think I would get caught. I know, it was stupid and foolish, but I honestly thought I had a chance to see where they were going without compromising my position."
Hiccup gritted his teeth and clenched his fists to keep his anger in check. "Sneaking off isn't like you Astrid. You have never gone against my orders before so why now? Why are you so desperate for attention?"
Astrid balked. "D-Desperate for attention?!" She clutched the throbbing pain in her side as she moved away from the boulder. Almost falling over, she braced herself against another rock form. "You think I put myself through this for attention?! You're out of your mind!"
"No, you were out of your mind!" Hiccup couldn't take it anymore as his voice exploded in anger. "I could tell Viggo and Ryker were setting a trap for us to follow the moment I spotted their ship taunting our line of sight, which is specifically why I told everyone - including you - not to go after them! Where was your sense, Astrid? Did you get hit in the head a few too many times? Are you bored with the Edge? I just need some sort of explanation that makes sense to explain why you snuck away behind my back!"
"Well I don't have one!!!" Astrid fired immediately. "Sometimes I have to follow my gut and just go. Granted, this time was against my better judgement, but I won't apologize for my instincts to follow them."
"You're instincts?!" Hiccup was incredulous. "What instincts?! YOU ALMOST DIED!" The Chief's son slammed his palm against a large rock, and she jumped a little from the sudden impact.
"But I didn't!"
"Maybe not today but what about the next time you choose to disobey my orders? If you are so keen on following your instincts instead of following my lead, then maybe you should rethink your position on my team!"
"FINE! MAYBE I WILL!" Astrid shouted back. She held her breath and, with all her strength, marched into the cave, called for Stormfly and grimaced as she climbed onto her dragon's back. "I"m going back to Berk. You obviously don't need my help!"
"Oh no you don't!" Hiccup grabbed Astrid's arm before Stormfly could lift off and pulled her down from the mount. "You're too injured to fly no matter where you choose to go. I"m not going to allow you to get into another position where you might drown from your injuries!"
"LET. GO!" Astrid elbowed Hiccup in the ribs and tried to climb back onto Stormfly, completely oblivious to her bleeding wounds. Hiccup wrapped his arms around her, locking her against his chest, but she tried fighting him. Fishbone Hiccup was no longer Fishbone Hiccup, but despite his overwhelming strength against her own, she refused to be manhandled by her so-called boyfriend.
"Stop struggling, Astrid! You're reopening your wounds!"
Hiccup knew his girlfriend was a force to be reckoned with and at full strength, she would totally send him flat on his ass, but even though she was struggling to get free from his stronghold, he too was struggling to keep her from freeing herself.
"Let me go, Hiccup! Please, just let me go!"
"NO!" Hiccup was out of options. Without thinking, he grasped Astrid's cheek a little too roughly than he wished and kissed her hard on the mouth, pouring everything he was feeling into it. Yes, he was angry. Angry at himself for almost losing the woman he loved. Sad for Astrid, that she couldn't trust him when it mattered most. Thankful for finding Astrid in time before she sank to the bottom of the ocean floor. And grateful... Grateful for being able to spend this moment with Astrid, no matter how difficult she was being. The mere fact that she was alive was relief enough.
Astrid eventually gave up, and despite her injuries, she eventually melted into her boyfriend's arms as she found a strange feeling of solace in his kiss. She could feel all the feelings he was feeling as he kissed her and she kissed him just as fiercely, wanting him to know just how sorry she was for not doing as she was told.
When his lips eventually parted from hers, he did not release her from his embrace. "I'm sorry," he whispered into his ear. "We all make mistakes. Please don't go back to Berk. I... I need you here... on the Edge... I... I can't do this without you."
"I won't go," Astrid muttered just as Hiccup released his hold on her.
"Oh thank Thor."
“Now.” He growled in my ear grabbing my elbow and pulling me away from the lively conversation I was having with Sirius. I sent him an apologetic smile as I was hoisted away by my boyfriend.
“Remus?” I tried but got no answer, he only walked harder. I struggled to keep up with him in my cocktail dress and heels but did my best to not fall flat on my face in the middle of the party. I wracked my brain for what could have made him act like that, silently counting the days in my mind I realized it was two days until the full moon and something I did set him off. I couldn’t be upset, he got unnaturally worked up on the days leading to his transformation and I didn’t mind sometimes it was fun.
“Baby?”
“Shut up.” He turned and pulled me into his chest, finally he stopped dragging me around the house. I looked around trying to see where we were but before I could place it I was spinning around. I held on tighter to Remus screwing my eyes shut until I heard the familiar cracking noise that would let me know we finished apparating.
My feet hit the floor, followed by the familiar cracking noise and I opened my eyes and looked around our shared bedroom.
“Did you think I wouldn’t notice.” He snarled. “You prancing around in front of all of them.”
“Remus.” I laughed out. This wasn’t the first time we had this argument, and I knew it wouldn’t be the last. He always got possessive closer to his transformation, I found that playing into it got more reward later in the night. “You don’t know what you are talking about.”
“Don’t lie.” He growled and pushed me onto the bed, making me yelp. “You know what you were doing.”
“And you know I only have eyes for you.” I spoke up in retaliation.
“Prove it.” His voice was low, and it lost the agitated growl it held moments before.
I positioned myself on the bed, pulled my dress up which pooled around my waist as I sat on my knees. “Use me.” I knew it’s what he needed, to blow off steam and clear his head, and from the ache between my legs it was something I needed as well.
He didn’t reply, only smashed his lips into mine with such force that if his hands hadn’t found me I would have fallen back. The kiss was hot and needy, our teeth clashed and it was really unsynchronized but I didn’t care. His hands found my hips, pulling me forward I wrapped my legs around his waist to pull his groin into mine.
Moaning at the contact he slipped his tongue into my mouth, I fought back, deciding to give a fair fight. It was only when his hands whichI wasn’t paying much attention to found my clothed core, trailing up and down and pressing onto my clit did I back down.
Pulling away he muttered soft praise. “Good girl, on your back.” I did as I was told, leaning hoisting my legs up for him. “Off.” He ordered, nodding to my dress. I watched him undress as I did as well. I pulled off my bra and panties leaving me bare and dripping. “So pretty, you're so wet is this all for me?”
I nodded my head furiously. “Yes just for you.” He smiled, dipping his head down to kiss my bare thighs. I let my head relax, falling against the pillows. He trailed his lips up my thigh, I felt sparks as he neared the area I needed him most.
“Liar.” He whispered against my heat. I picked my head up looking at him confused, eyebrows furrowed. I saw the disdain on his face as he stood. His member was aching and bright red. I wanted to reach for it but I knew better.
“What?” He chuckled, obviously amused by my confusion. He trailed his hands up and down my thighs which quivered under his touch.
“You expect me to believe this is all for me, when I saw what you were doing with them?” I rolled my eyes, getting prepared to fight something I thought I had already won. Pushing myself up I looked up at him, his chest was heaving and he pulled in heavy, ragged, breaths.
I slowly slid my hand in between us, finally grasping his member I watched as he stopped breathing for a moment, shutting his eyes. When they opened again I began stroking him slowly. “Remus, where are we?” I asked softly.
“Our bedroom.” He grunted and I rewarded him with the correct answer by speeding up my strokes slightly.
“Exactly, our bedroom.” I reminded him. “Who am I with right now?” My other hand trailed up his chest, drawing absentminded shapes in its wake.
“Me.” He whispered, his tone was much softer than before.
“Precisely, not Sirius, not James, not Peter. I am with you. I love you.” I watched as his eyes fluttered close, his hand came up to cup my cheek, explaining himself with a small touch but I understood each word he was trying to convey. He felt insignificant, like a burden and with the added stress from changing he lashed out. A small interaction between me and Sirius was warped in his mind and when he accused me of putting on a show he was really trying to explain how afraid he was of losing me. It was something, though rather dramatic, made me feel loved because I was able to speak his broken language. A language that speaks through actions rather than words. My hand had sped up to a workable pace now, every so often thumbing his tip as I reached the top, eliciting a groan from him.
He grabbed my wrist and I faltered my movements. “L-Let me,” He regained his breath as well as his confidence from earlier before he spoke again. “Let me show them.”
“By all means.” I whispered back and pulled his head down to meet mine in a kiss. It was slow at first but as he fell back into his dominant role, this time fueled by passion instead of anger it quickened. He pushed me back on the bed, spreading my legs with his hands which soon found my folds, he spread them, lavishing his fingers in my wetness before pushing two fingers inside of me. My clit throbbed as he began with a quick pace, not faltering for a moment.
“Does this feel good baby?” His husky voice asked as he drove his fingers in with more intent than before.
“Y-Yes, it does, fuck.” I answered feeling my release quickly approaching. He didn't stop but added his other hand to my clit and started rubbing tight circles with his fingers. “I’m gonna, fuck Remus-” but he pulled away right as my release almost washed over me. A long whine escaped me as he pulled back.
“Not yet pretty girl.” He whispered back. Before I could reply he sheathed himself fully inside me, successfully taking my breath away. I involuntarily fluttered my walls around his length, trying to adjust to a size, that though familiar, still stretched me deliciously. He pulled me against him, so I was pressed against him at the end of the bed. “So pretty baby.” He praised as his head dipped to leave small kisses on my chest. I moaned at the contact rutting my hips against him which caused him to bite lightly on my breast.
“Be good and still and I’ll fuck you into this mattress.” My mouth went dry at his words, his mouth immediately went back to nipping and sucking at my breasts. I tried to catch my breath which was a difficult feat to do because his every move made my skin heat up. His lips worked their way up to mine, placing a fiery and slow kiss against mine he moved his hips in a circular motion. His pelvis hit my clit causing me to buck against his touch.
“I thought I asked you to be still?” He taunted, pulling back slightly. He landed a sharp slap to my right breast causing me to arch and tighten against him.
“Yes, I will, please, I need you.” I begged trying not to push against him again. Running his hands up and down my torso, he dragged his nails against my nipples, making my skin grow even hotter. I moaned into his touch unable to formulate words to tell him how good he was making me feel. His head dipped down again, I felt his hair fall against my chin as he placed small nips and bites against my collarbone, lapping them with his tongue then blowing on them lightly.
“I suppose you have waited long enough,” He mused, shifting slightly so pushed farther into me. I felt him move and whined at the contact. “Do you know who you belong to now?” He grasped each of my breasts as he asked, massaging them lightly and pulling on them at the end of his question.
“I always have.” I answered breathlessly. My answer was deemed satisfactory by the wolfish grin that adorned his face. He pulled out to his tip, then slowly pushed back in completely. The feeling was wonderful, but not enough. “M-More.” I needed him to let me cum, I needed to finish and extinguish the burning pit in my stomach.
“As you wish.” Suddenly he gripped the underside of both of my thighs, pushing them to the side and down against the bed I felt myself spread more than I ever have before. Before I could be worried or self conscious he was pulling out and pushing back in at a brutal pace. Each thrust he bottomed out, filling me up and hitting the spot inside of me, his pelvis was bumping my clit making me whine in time with his thrusts. “Do you like that baby?"
“Yes, I love it.” I whispered back. My eyes screwed shut as he growled in response, going faster if that was possible. My orgasm was fast approaching and I couldn’t continue to fight it off. “I need to-” I didn’t finish my sentence before I came hard, clenching around his cock, arching my back. He didn’t falter, continuing to thrust into me, riding out my orgasm, my hips twitched against his, meeting his thrusts. Soon I felt his grip around my thighs tighten and he stopped completely, filling me up, shooting ropes of cum and painting my insides. He thrust a few times, shallowly pushing his cum deeper inside of me.
Releasing my legs they shakily fell to a more natural position as he sat up and pulled out. He gave me a lazy grin before walking over to our dresser, handing me a pair of his boxers and his shirt he walked back to get clothes for himself. Standing I pulled the boxers on without another thought. Picking up my head to place my shirt on I saw my reflection in the mirror across the room, my chest, a work of art containing reds and deep purple splotches framed by my breasts. The markings were partnered with a few red lines that circled my nipples drawn by his nails.
“Sure is pretty,” Remus said, walking behind me, he wrapped his arms around my middle and placed a sweet kiss on my neck. “Seeing you all marked up.”
“All yours.”
Chapter 4
After the eventful day yesterday, I could say that today was extremely boring. For some unknown reason, Stiles and Jackson had not shown up to school. But, after what happened I would have missed too, but I left my bike here and I needed to get it back. I wasn’t planning on staying longer than needed. Once the day was over and the clock hit three, I sped off to my house. I was still tired from yesterday and all I wanted to do was take a big long nap. My body felt heavy, and my head hurt like hell.
But once I got home, I knew that I wouldn't be sleeping like I wanted to.
"What are you doing here, Derek?" I asked as I took off my helmet.
"We need to talk."
"No, we don't. There's nothing to talk about."
"(Y/N), please. You have been avoiding me for almost two weeks now. I need to know why." He sounded desperate.
"And I want to know how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie pop. Guess we won't be getting any answers today." I tried to walk to the door, but he grabbed my arm. "Let. Me. Go."
"Please, just talk to me. Give me a reason." His stare burned a hole in me. "Please."
"Seriously, Derek. Just leave me alone." He finally let me go, my arm feeling cold missing his touch.
"I won't stop until you talk to me and explain."
"Then get comfortable, sour wolf, you'll be waiting a long time." I entered the house and locked the door, finally letting out a breath I didn't know I was holding.
I changed into comfortable clothing and started cleaning the house. My parents would be here tomorrow, and I wanted to make sure the house was spotless. Truly, I just needed something to take my mind off Derek. Why did he make me feel this way? Yesterday the only thing I was wondering was why HE was there. And I didn't want to think that way. I didn't want to care about him. Not now, not ever.
After I finished cleaning, I found myself with nothing to do, so I ran upstairs and took a shower. I tried to take all the time in the world but there wasn't enough. I got out and went to bed thinking of the events of yesterday.
I was running through the forest and I felt someone chasing me. No matter how fast I ran, the creature ran faster. Before I knew it my body had collided with the floor and towering above me was the thing that had screeched last night. It looked lost, like it needed to find his purpose. His slit eyes stared down onto mine and his sharp teeth expelled a sort of saliva that trickled down to my face. His tail was moving up and down my legs teasing a cut. I wanted to move but I knew if I did it would try to kill me, so I stayed put. I closed my eyes and awaited what would happen but instead of death, a roar sounded. Startled, the creature screeched, and I screamed back.
I woke up screaming and sweating just 5 minutes before my alarm would make a sound. I got out of my bed and went to take a shower to relieve me from the dream I just had. It sounded just like the screech from two nights ago. My body felt cold, and I had goosebumps everywhere. To calm my nerves, I put the water in a hot temperature and let it ease my muscles and relax my body. I would have maybe called Isaac but, after knowing he's somewhat involved with whatever is going on and him being a douchebag the last few days, I didn't even bother looking up his contact. Maybe it was for the best. After the year ended I could cut ties without any remorse.
Once I was done with my shower I changed into comfortable clothes once again and ran down the stairs. For more than an hour I was enjoying a horror movie on TV when I heard the doorknob rattle.
"Mom! Dad!" I ran and jumped on both.
"Hey, munchkin." My dad ruffled my hair and hugged me.
"Hey, darling. How did your week go?" My mom asked. How could I explain to her something I didn't know?
"Pretty uneventful. Just hanging out around the house, organizing my room and stuff. But, enough about me. Come in, settle down, tell me about your week."
"Honey, why don't you go sit down, we need to talk about something." I looked at my mom weirdly and went to the kitchen to sit down.
"What's going on?" I looked at my parents who were fixing up dinner.
"Munchkin, you know how each year we have to move due to my business. Well, this year is gonna be different."
"We're not moving. Dad, you've said that before. How do I know you're not lying again?"
"We took this week kind of on a trial basis. You’re getting older and can handle bigger responsibilities like taking care of yourself and the house by yourself. So, it seems that we can be away for elongated periods of time and you’ll be just fine. And in any case, your uncle is here to take care of you."
"We will be living here in Beacon Hills and any business that needs to be taken care of we will just leave town for a few days. Are you okay with that?" My mother smiled.
"Okay?! I'm beyond okay!" I jumped up from the stool and hugged my parents. "This is the best news ever!"
"That's great, honey. Now go do something while I start dinner."
When my parents told me the news that we were staying the first person that came to mind was Derek.
I had been avoiding him for such a long time and he did deserve some answers and maybe I could get some from him about what was going on in this freak show of a town. I decided to text him and told him to meet me at his house in the woods. I awaited his answer and rode my bike down the now familiar trail. And just as he had said, there he was, waiting on the front steps of the house.
"Hey, Derek," I said softly. It was hard to swallow my pride after the way I had been acting.
"Hey, (Y/N). Are you finally ready to talk?" He said in a calm and soothing voice. Absolutely the opposite of what I was expecting. I nodded my head and sat down next to him. "So, why have you been avoiding me? Is it something I did?"
"No. I just had to."
"You had to?"
"Look, all my life I have had to pack everything up and leave behind a whole life. Every time the year ends, I need to forget about one life and start another. I have ignored so many people that have only been nice to me because I don't want to grow attached. Cause when I leave, I know I will never see them again and I'd rather be alone than have to pass through that heartache."
"So, once we started growing close you had to cut ties so you could forget about me." I nodded and he let out a sigh. "I get it. But you could've told me."
"Yeah? How? Hey, I'm gonna start to forget you now so I don't have to later. Wouldn't be too sensitive, would it?"
"No, but I would have understood." He looked at me. His eyes held kindness and understandings, things I didn’t deserve for my actions. "But why are you telling me now?"
"My parents told me that we're not leaving this time. We're here for good."
"So that means you'll stop ignoring me?"
"Yes." He smiled and gave me a hug. I hugged him back. "Now that I have given you answers, I need some in return."
"Like?"
"What the hell happened on Thursday?"
"Oh. That." He paused for a second and groaned, but I motioned him to answer me. "Of course. But what I tell you right now must stay between us, and you must give me your word that no one will know that I was the one who told you. Not Scott or Allison, not even your parents."
"Is it that important?"
"Absolutely. Look what's happening here, it's not normal nor human."
"What are you talking about, Derek?" I chuckled.
"Everything around you are not what it seems. There's just no easy way to say this."
"Derek, ballpark it."
"I'm a werewolf, an alpha. And so is Scott, Isaac, Erica, and Boyd, they're betas. Your family, including Allison, are hunters. They kill people like me and the others. That screech you heard yesterday, it came from a Kanima. A walking snake-like creature that kills people, murderers exactly, after paralyzing them with a type of venom it creates." He looked into my eyes trying to search for something. An answer, a sign, anything. It just wasn't there. "(Y/N), please. Say something."
I tried to speak up, but nothing came out. Maybe it was the shock, maybe I wasn't ready to hear this, maybe I didn't want to know that everyone around me was different. Out of this world, sort to speak.  Everything was changing and I couldn't do anything about it. I saw Stiles' jeep coming closer. Out of it came Scott, Allison, and, obviously, Stiles. I got up from the steps, ignoring their calls and Derek calling my name.
"Where are you going, (Y/N)?"
"Home." I turned on the motorcycle and tried to leave but I couldn't. I was frozen, listening to their conversation.
Derek's POV "What's happening?" Stiles asked.
"She's leaving, dimwit. Don't you have eyes?"
"Why would she leave like that?" Allison questioned and directed her sight to me. "What did you do?"
"Nothing. We were just talking."
"What exactly where you guys talking about?" Scott asked.
"Everything."
"As in." I stared at him and raised an eyebrow. "Oh, everything."
"Derek, why the hell would you do that?! It was not in your place to tell her about that."
"Oh, like you would have told her anything. Just like you're telling Lydia. She came to me for answers, and I gave them to her."
"That is none of your business."
"I was not going to continue to lie to her. You do whatever the hell you want but I couldn't go on like that."
"Honestly, Derek. What is your problem?! She's nothing to you so I don't understand why you had to bring her into this twisted world." Allison screamed.
"You know why she has to know. I accept that it's not my place, but I knew you wouldn't say anything and, also, I didn't bring her into this. Your bloodline did. Don't pin this on me." Allison starts fuming and closing the gap between us but stops dead in her tracks when she heard the same thing all of us heard. (Y/N) falling off her bike.
"(Y/N)!!" I ran towards her and picked her up.
"Don't touch her!" Allison screamed.
"You can't tell me what to do." I bumped our shoulders and headed towards the house. "But if you wanna help out you can follow me."
Fuming, Allison followed me into the living room with the trail of puppies on her back. She helped me gently lay down (Y/N) on the couch whilst Scott found some gauze and alcohol for a scratch on her face and hopefully what would wake her.
After cleaning the wound, I held a gauze dripping with alcohol under her nose, but nothing happened.
"This is what I wanted to avoid. She seems so strong, but she is so fragile too. I wanted her to find this all out through her parents. Not some stranger she just met." Allison spoke to Scott.
"I think you underestimate the strength she has. And trust me, I am no stranger to her." I spat at her. "At least I was the only one brave enough to give her the answers she was seeking."
"Derek, honestly I could give two shits about what you think right now. It's your fault she fainted. Again, you had no fucking right."
"Look, Allison, I get it. You don't want her in this world because she's better than you. I get it." I smirked at her and she lunged at me. Scott held her back but I wanted the reaction. I was completely fuming, (Y/N) deserved better than lies.
As she struggled, Stiles’s words brought us back from the fight.
"Guys, she's waking up."
I directed my gaze again to (Y/N) and noticed her eyes fluttering open. "See, she's fine."
"But she wasn't."
"Well, she is now." I gritted my teeth.
(Y/N)'s POV
"Um, guys, yeah. I'm still here stop talking about me as if I were gone."
"Are you okay? How are you feeling?" Allison asked as if I had hurt myself.
"I'm fine. My body is functioning normally, my legs are moving one after the other, my lips are opening and closing, and my tongue is moving, and my arms are flailing. I'm super."
"Take it easy, (Y/N). You just found out a lot of stuff." Scott said.
"Yeah, you two are werewolves." I pointed at him and at Derek, then at Allison. "And you, along with our family, a hunter." I looked at Stiles. "And you're human, like me."
"And?" Derek asked in a harsh tone as if trying to keep up the mean façade he had. It made me angry, but the worry was evident in his eyes.
"It's fine. It's weird but fine." This time I did get on my motorcycle and started it.
"Whoa, where do you think you're going?" Stiles tried to stop me midway.
"Um, as I said before, home."
"You can't drive in this state, especially in a motorcycle. You could crash!"
"Allison, I have never in my life of driving crashed a motorcycle whereas cars, enough to start a small dealership, and some of them weren't even mine. I think I'm good." As I tried to leave, once again I was stopped. This time by Derek.
"I'll take you home."
"Um, you've done enough. I'll take her home." Allison stepped in. They got in each other's faces and I had to step in between them.
"Mom, dad. Stop. I hate when you fight." I snorted. "Sorry, but I'll take myself home."
Before any of them could answer I got on my motorcycle and sped off the same way I came through. When I got home, I was out of breath and dizzy. Everything Derek had said kept replaying in my mind over and over, like an endless loop of unimaginable words that seemed to be part of a dream. The front door of my house seemed so far, and it felt like almost half an hour had passed until I got there. Everything passed by slowly and blurry.
My father called out to me and it felt like I answered but I had no idea what I said. Maybe something in the lines of I'm tired, I'm gonna go to bed. I ascended the stairs one step at a time until I reached the top. It felt like climbing the Great Wall of China, but finally, I made it to my bedroom. Once I entered, I got the scare of my life and everything went back to normal. Derek was in my room.
"What the hell are you doing here, Derek?!" I yelled in a soft whisper.
"I wanted to see if you were really okay. You didn't seem good when you left."
"I'm fine," I said in a cold voice and started looking for my pajamas. He wasn't believing me, and neither was I. "Seriously, Derek. I am."
"You don't seem or sound fine. I heard you when you got here, you were out of breath and you took your time to get up the stairs as if it was the biggest climb of your life." It was evident that he was worried about me but there was nothing to worry about. I may still be in a bit of shock. He just needed to chill. Deep down I knew how scared I was. The world had turned into different stop frames. I could see everything pass me by inch by inch. I had time for everything. I could easily have gone to the other side of the planet and back and not more than a minute could have passed.
I went to the bathroom and changed in hopes that he would leave, even though  I didn’t want him to. He didn't. He looked around my book collection which, I may add, is quite big. My father had some people make a built-in bookcase and desk. It was probably my favorite place in the whole house, the kitchen ended second. Derek had taken one of my favorite books in his hand.
"Pride and Prejudice? Hm, never would have pictured you to read this kind of book."
"There's many things you don't know about me, sour wolf."
"Seriously, you're gonna keep calling me that? Even after you know it's true."
"That makes it more fun." I smiled weakly. "So, werewolf, huh?" He nodded. "And my family is filled with hunters." He nodded again. "And they hunt you."
"(Y/N), if this is too much for you, we can leave you out of it."
"It doesn't matter if you leave me out of it, I'll still be involved. I just don't want anything to change."
"I know. Me either." He said looking down. I walked over to him and hugged him needing some type of warmth. His arms engulfed me, and I felt relieved, completely forgetting how mad I was at him for being a dick not a few hours ago.
"It's just for the first time in my life I thought I cloud have a normal life with my family and new friends. I hoped to settle in a normal town where it's so boring, but you fall in love with the people there and never want to leave. I guess I just wanted normal."
"And I just ruined that." He sighed, his chest rising and falling against my head. "I'm sorry."
"Don't blame yourself. My parents would have brought me into that world soon enough. I think that's why they've had me working out and training for no apparent reason. They were hoping I would join the family business."
"Would you?"
"Huh?" I looked up at him.
"If they asked you to become a hunter, would you?"
"If I hadn't met Isaac, or your pack, or Scott... or you, I probably would have. But I can't be a part of something that hunts innocent creatures just because they believe the whole species is bad." He nodded but stayed quiet.
I went over to my bed in hopes he would stay but he made his way to the window. I don't know what came over me, but I called out to him. "Don't go. Stay, please."
Without another word he turned off the lights and sat next on the chair that was in the corner next to my bed. Finally, I drifted off with the possibility of words flowing from his mouth.
Derek's POV
"I'll never leave you." I whispered to her as she closed her eyes and drifted into sleep. After some time, she started squirming and her heartbeat began to race. I sat next to her, and without waking up, she got closer and snuggled into my chest. I put an arm around her and heard her heartbeat slowly go back to normal.
At around midnight I heard voices arguing downstairs. I didn't mean to overhear but I couldn't help it.
"You went looking for her again, didn't you, Henry?"
"Of course, I did. I'll look for her until the day I die."
"You know you'll never find her. That was the point. You told her to hide, and she did. So much that not even you can find her. I guess she didn't love you enough." She sighed. "And even if you found her, your father would use all his power to kill her."
"At least I loved her more than I'll ever love you, and that's enough for me."
 After that, a long silence.
Then, a door slammed shut.
Moments after I heard footsteps coming up the stairs.I tried my best to move in case they decided to check in with her, but (Y/N)’s grip on me only tightened. I had no escape other than to brace myself for whatever could happen.
My heart started to race faster and faster as the steps became closer to the room.
Step.
Step.
Step.
Her mother was right outside her door, probably debating waking her daughter up to wish her a good night. My breath hitched in my throat when the door handle started to softly turn; the gears in my brain turning, looking for the quickest escape. The door handle had turned completely and I prepared myself to run. But, it was let go. The footsteps receded and ended in the room next to (Y/N)’s. Once I heard her settle in bed I finally relaxed. I curled (Y/N) onto me and wrapped her tight. Something in me just wanted to protect her and let her know she’s not alone. I hadn’t felt this way in a long time and for the first time I wanted to see where it could lead.
Not the Same
Tumblr media
Pairing: Hoseok x fem!reader
Genre: smut
Word Count: 1.6k
Summary: After catching your now ex boyfriend cheating on you, Hoseok is the one to be there for you…but he’s not the same Hoseok that you remembered.
Notes: This smut is so bad in my opinion, but hopefully y’all will like it😖 also… I’M BACK (this fic is so bad oml, don’t hate😭)
“K- kai? Jennie?” you say hesitantly as you walked in on your boyfriend inches deep inside of your so-called best friend. You watch as both their faces dropped and showed fear and disappointment. Kai hesitantly walks up to you, leaving Jennie’s half-naked body on the sink. You stand frozen as Kai walks towards you. The sickening sight of him boiled your blood, especially this sight.
“Y/n please let me explain. I’m sorry..“ He says. Word after word that flowed from his lips angered you more by the second. Your patience was running out and your temper was flaring. Rage boiled through your body. You barely had a chance to think of your actions. The only thought running through your head was getting him to shut up.
You pursed your lips and raised your hand back. You threw your hand forward as hard as you could, whipping it across his face. The crack of skin contacting skin echoed off the bathroom walls. Vibrations of pain started in the palm of your hand and spread all the way to your finger tips. Your palm was bright red, the same red mark that matched the one on his face. He stared at me with his eyes wide as his hand slowly made it to his fire red cheek.
You thought that you should've felt some kind of remorse. But you didn't. Not one organ in your body could produce guilt for your actions. Your whirled on your heel and marched away. You never looked back to see him watch you leave. You were heart broken.
You began to rush down the hall, urgently looking for a way out of there. You ran as fast as you could, barely rounding a corner before slamming into someone causing you to fall. You felt a sharp ache on your bottom causing you with wince at the pain.
“Y/n?” You hear a familiar voice. You looked up to see your bestfriend, you guys became distant ever since university since you both ended up fitting into different friend groups and they pulled you apart. He holds his hands out for you to take but you couldn’t bring yourself to, you stare at his hands blankly. Hoseok realizes you won’t take his hand so he takes yours and helps you up. You felt embarrassed to be in this situation, your hands and legs trembled, you could feel a lump in your throat, you couldn’t even bring yourself to lift your head and look the eyes of Hoseok. “Y/n, look at me.” Hobi says, placing his finger under your chin and lifting your head to make eye contact. He notices your red eyes and the slowing drying year stains that covered your cheeks. He places his hands, cupping your have in a very concerned worried manner. “What’s wrong? Why are you crying?”
You tried holding back tears, and as a habit, you bit your lip to do so. Hobi knows of this habit and gently pulls your lip from between your teeth with his thumb as he gently grazes his finger over your bottom lip. “Don't bite, just tell me” You stare at him as you build the courage to tell him what happened, and as you do so you see the raging burn through the concerned innocent look in his eyes. They grew dark and furious. Hobi stands straight and let's out a sigh and wraps his arm around you. “Let’s go, I'll take you to my house.”
You lightly nod in response as Hobi leads you to the front door. As you were walking past a crowd of people Hobi happened to bumb into Kai. Kai turns around, one drink in hand, and glare at Hobi. Hobi give him a cold stare before removing his arm from you and pushing you behind him. “Move Kai” He says firmly. He tried walking past him but Kai firmly pressing his hand against his chest stopping him which fuel all the rage that was building up in him.
Hobi purses his lips before raising his hand, clenching it into a fist and clashing it into Kai’s face causing the whole room of people to go silent only letting gasps and “woah” be heard. You gasp, covering your mouth as Hobi gave Kai one last head turning punch to the lip. Kai turns his head back to reveal the bloody nose and cut lip Hobi gave him. He gives it a slight touch and winces in pain before looking up at Hobi as he grabs your hand and walks you out to his car like nothing happened.
You sat in the car still processing what had just happened. You looked over at Hobi who had a blank expression on his face which you never see. He is always smiling or has some sort of expression to shows you how he’s feeling, but right now he is just blank. Your eyes glaces over at his fist. The one he used to hit Kai. Slightly covered in his blood. You looked away quickly and saw that you guys made it to Hobi’s house.
He helps you inside and guides you to the bathroom. “Here, take a shower and I’ll bring you clothes” He says as you walk into the bathroom and close the door behind you. You took a shower and changed into the clothes Hobi gave you and you decided to sit in the living room while Hobi joined you for comfort and to make you feel less at home in a way.
“Thanks for taking me here” you say trying to break the awkward silence that was building between the two of you.
“Don’t worry about it” He says
You wanted to ask why he did that in the first place. Yes, you guys are friends but he acted out as if you were more than that.
“How’s your hand?” You ask
Hobi looks at his fist and shows you the bruises on his knuckles, “Looks fine to me if I do say so myself” He says jokingly making the both of you chuckle. You scoot over sitting close to him as check his hand out.
“Not gonna lie, I was pretty surprised by the way you acted tonight” You say with a small smile. You looked up to see Hobi staring deeply at you which made you nervous. “That’s not the Hobi I remembered.”
Hobi moves closer to your face, his breath warming your lips just inches away from touching. It made your mouth water to feel his lips on your. Made you hungry for him for some reason. “Well I’m not the same Hobi anymore y/n” He said lowly
Your breath hitches as Hobi crashing his lips onto yours taking you by surprise. His kiss made it feel as if he was just as hungry as you were, maybe even hungrier. He began kissing you harder and harder as he wraps his arm around your waist to keep you up right. You ran your finger through his hair as you moaned into the kiss making Hobi groan, wanting more of you. He slowly yet eagerly moves down your neck and gently lays you down on the sofa and hovers over you with one legs between yours. You felt vulnerable but loved it as Hobi marked every inch and crook of your neck. Making you into a squirming mess. You finally gave in and relaxed your body while Hobi did his thing on it. Your hand found it’s way to his arm as you gripped onto it tightly when Hobi pushed his leg against you.
“Mhm~” you moaned as you began you rub yourself against Hobi bare thigh. You felt your panties getting wetter by the second.
Hobi fondles your breast before quickly moving his hand to your panties. He moves away from his neck and licks the saliva from his lips and smirks at you. He looks down as trails his finger across your panties. He slowly moves his hand inside your panties only to grip onto your waist.
“So tell me y/n…” He says as he slowly slide his hand down to skim over your clit through the cloth. You gasp slightly and let out a small moaning gasp. He circles his finger around your clit and gradually rubs you faster and faster. You enjoyed the pleasure so much your back began to arch and you let out a line of curse words and moans.
Hobi stops and smirks before looking at you and ripping your panties off in one gesture. He slowly slips his middle and ring finger in your mouth as your coat it in saliva and he then does the same. He slide his finger down your folds and thrusts them deeply into your hole making you scream and burry your face into his shoulder. He lets out a deep chuckle and whispers in your ear, “How much are you liking his new Hoseok?” He continuously thrusts his fingers into you and kisses ur neck overwhelming your body with pleasure. You already feel yourself coming close to your high and Hobi notices.
“Look at me while I make you cum” Hobi says as he continues to finger your hole.
You look into Hobi’s eyes as he curls his finger to the roof of your pussy making you cum all over his fingers in a loud moan.
“Fuck y/n~” Hobi grunts and he slowly slides his finger out of your pussy and rubs your pussy, overstimulating you. He removes his hand from your throbbing red pussy and licks the cum from his fingers before grabbing your face and kissing you, making you taste yourself. You moan as Hobi grips on your neck and pulls away from the kiss. You look at him as you try to catch ur breath and process everything that happened.
“You’re so beautiful when you look a mess” Hobi says, pushing ur hair back. His grip around ur neck tightens and Hobi leans in. “Let’s make you more beautiful”
Fic: i want your midnights
“It’s late, you should be asleep.” * Carlos prepares to return to work.
1.6K | Also on AO3
- - - - - - -
TK wakes up alone in their dimly lit bedroom.
Moonlight shines through the balcony doors to his right, bathing the rumpled sheets next to him in pale hues and shadows. He runs his hand against them, letting out a sigh at their coldness. Squeezing his tired eyes shut for a just moment, he chooses to ignore the sharp, quick pain that radiates from his stapled skull in favor of getting out of bed to search for his missing human blanket.
He finds Carlos exactly where he thought he would: sitting on one of the bar stools, his head propped up on his hand as he leans over the counter, slowly scrolling through something on his laptop. TK can see his leg bouncing slightly, his foot tapping against the stool’s leg from where it’s resting on a support beam.
“It’s late, you should be asleep,” Carlos says without turning to look at him, his exhaustion clear in the tone of his voice.
TK merely scoffs in reply, stepping away from the bottom of the stairs and crossing the room to wrap his arms around his boyfriend’s waist. “I could say the same thing about you, babe,” he whispers, pressing a gentle kiss against Carlos’s neck before burying his face in his soft grey shirt to inhale his favorite scent.
“Couldn’t get my brain to shut up,” his boyfriend explains, shifting to run his hand along TK’s arm around his waist, his eyes still fixed on the computer screen in front of him.
TK hums, glancing over to the screen as well, unsurprised to see the 783-page APD manual taking up half the screen, a document filled with notes about protocols filling the other half. He’s seen the manual a lot in the past two weeks, pretty sure that Carlos has been pouring over it every chance he gets during his time off work.
His boyfriend had filled him in on all the details of his suspension the day TK was released from the hospital, immediately saving him from feeling any ridiculous guilt about Carlos taking time off to care for him after his incident.
Instead, Carlos had decided to take some time off for himself following his one-week suspension. TK knows that the investigation, as well as his short hospital stay and Grace and Judd’s accident, has thoroughly rocked their world, and he’s thankful that Carlos willingly gave himself time to process and recover.
Now, however, their days at home are numbered. TK gets his staples removed tomorrow, and he’ll have a few more days of recovery after that before he’s back to work. As for Carlos, he reports for his first shift the next evening, one that TK knows he’s incredibly anxious about.
Which is why TK is not at all surprised to find him studying the ADP manual at midnight in their kitchen instead of sleeping in their bed where he belongs.
Without a word, TK reaches forward to grip the corner of the laptop, slowly closing it. Carlos doesn’t object to the action; instead he just lets out a sigh, his wide frame shrinking as he collapses in on himself, almost like he’s shutting down along with the device. TK rubs his back for a moment before sliding his hand up his spine and running his fingers through the short, cropped hair at the back of Carlos’s head. Gently, he guides his boyfriend to face him, taking in the tiredness behind his favorite pair of beautiful brown eyes. He gives Carlos a small smile, waiting until the other man returns it, before he leans forward to press their lips together.
Carlos gasps against him, his body shaking as his mouth opens up to TK’s affection. There was little distance between them before, but now they cling tighter, their bodies pressed together as their arms wrap around each other. Carlos whimpers softly, and TK answers him by sealing their connected lips, allowing none of their love to escape. They’re both too tired for the kiss to become the start of something more, but that’s okay. It’s a conversational kiss, one where Carlos says “I need to know you’re going to always be here with me” and TK responds with “I promise you there’s nowhere else I will ever be.”
They still cling tightly to one another when their lips separate, each of them gasping for breath in the sliver of space between them. TK’s head spins, his nose dragging against Carlos’s as they find safety and security in their warm embrace.
“Come be my blanket?” he asks after a moment, keeping his eyes closed.
Carlos doesn’t respond with words; instead, he shifts, slipping off the bar stool and reaching to take TK’s hand. He takes the lead, moving to flip off the light switch before beginning the ascent up the stairs, dragging a willing TK along behind him.
They don’t speak as they climb into bed, each of them taking their sides. TK turns to face the wall, Carlos slotting in behind him to cover him completely. His boyfriend slides his arm around TK’s waist to link their fingers over his stomach before resting his chin in his neck, fitting perfectly in the slot created between his collarbone and left ear as if he was designed to do so.
For others, the arrangement might feel too close, too restrictive. To TK, there is nothing better than feeling Carlos’s touch against every inch of his body. The perfect human blanket providing maximum security and warmth.
TK waits until Carlos’s breathing settles, dragging his thumb against the back of his hand, before he speaks again.
“Tell me about the manual?”
Carlos huffs, the puff of air pressing against TK’s neck. “You ask as if you don’t already know,” he says into TK’s skin.
“I mean, I have an idea,” TK admits, tightening his grip on Carlos’s hand, “but I want to hear it from you.”
Carlos nods against him, pressing his lips against TK’s stubbled jaw.
“I’m scared to go back.” TK hears the way his voice shakes.
“I know.”
“I don’t want to mess up again...”
TK makes a noise of disapproval. “You didn’t mess up, Carlos. You were cleared to go back because you did the right thing.”
“Yeah…” Carlos trails off. “But, I keep thinking about how it felt when no one believed me.”
TK lets the admission hang in the silence, waiting for Carlos to continue.
“I’ve never really fit in with everyone else in the precinct, for a lot of reasons, but I’ve never been a total pariah before.”
“You’re a better officer than all of them, that’s their problem.”
“I think you’re biased, Ty,” Carlos argues weakly.
“Oh, really?” TK fires back, rolling to face Carlos directly while still keeping them as close as possible. “Then why have you been studying that manual for two weeks now?”
“I-” Carlos starts, his eyes shifting to look past TK. “I’m just reminding myself of protocols so I don’t get rusty.”
“And?”
“And nothing,” Carlos assures him. “That’s all.”
“So you’re not mentally reviewing every single call that you’ve responded to in the past five years?”
“No, I-” He cuts himself off at TK’s look, letting out another huff as he rolls his eyes. “How did you know?”
“Because I know you, Carlos,” TK reminds him, bringing a hand up to cup his boyfriend’s face. “You’re a good man, one of the best I’ve ever met, and yet every day you try to make yourself better.”
He watches as tears fill Carlos’s eyes, his bottom lip quivering slightly as he stares at him.
“So, what did you find? Have you made any bad calls?”
“I haven’t always followed protocol,” Carlos admits, his voice thick with emotion.
“Do you regret that?”
“No, I don’t.”
“Why not?”
“Because I did the right thing.”
“You’re sure?”
Carlos pauses, pulling his bottom lip between his teeth as he considers the question.
“Yes,” he finally answers, his voice strong and certain.
“Me, too,” TK agrees, running his thumb along the curve of Carlos’s cheek. “I’m always sure of you.”
He watches the tear fall from the corner of his boyfriend’s eye and run along the ridge of his nose. He leans forward, pressing their lips together again.
“Trust yourself, Carlos,” he says when he pulls away to find more tears running down Carlos’s face. “Trust yourself the way that I trust you. The way that I know I will always trust you.”
Carlos lets out a quiet sob, no longer able to hold it inside.
“Promise me?” TK asks, refusing to let it go.
His boyfriend nods. “I promise,” he whispers around another soft sob.
TK smiles, sliding his hand down to Carlos’s shoulder and pressing gently. His lover understands immediately, rolling over to face the door out to the balcony. TK slides in behind him, mirroring their earlier positions, content to now be a blanket for Carlos. He presses his lips to the other man’s cheek, transferring all of his love to him in every touch they share.
“I love you, Carlos, and I believe in you, with everything in me,” TK whispers into his ear, tightening his grip when Carlos shivers beneath him. “And in case you forget that, I promise that will be here every moment of every day to remind you, no matter what.”
Carlos responds by bringing their joined hands up to his mouth, pressing a wet, shaky kiss against the back of TK’s hand. He has no problem hearing the words that Carlos can’t speak.
They stay there, sheltered in their loving embrace, until they both sink into a deep, peaceful sleep that they only ever manage to find in each other’s arms.
Yandere Megaera x Shade Reader, submitted by @faeleas (idk if i did it right, but hope you like it regardless. and im sorry it's a little long >_<")
~
it had taken so long for you to sneak back into the entrance to Asphodel to catch even a glimpse of the powerful fury without her detection, but now that you had your spot behind on of the pillars far off to the side, you stayed put, kept silent and didn't blink lest you lost one second of Megaera in the fullness of her element.
she was a blaze of glory, her strength vibrating through the air as she snapped out her whip again and again at the prince, slicing the very breath from your lungs as you gazed in awe. how wonderful and powerful she was to behold, and how enthralling it always would be to watch her fight, to see her wicked smile cut into her teal cheek as she overflowed with the desire to cut the Zagreus down and stop his progress.
you could almost feel the faint impression of a thundering heartbeat in your chest, and that sensation only swelled when Megaera caught Zagreus by the ankle with her whip and tossed him high into the air above her. you gaped, eyes on her alone and in your shock, your duty to silence fell away, the quiet suddenly broken with your small gasp.
Megaera was just about to deal a finishing blow to the haughty prince who'd dared challenge her again, who was so proud to believe he could best her in her own domain, when she heard it. she heard you.
time seemed to stutter as her gold eyes darted to every corner of the entrance to Asphodel, searching through the dim glow of flickering firelight for the source of the sound that broken her focused rage. after a second, her brazen gaze locked on you hidden in the shadows in the corner of her arena, hands clasped over your mouth and eyes wide with... something. as far as she knew, it should be fear. no shade had ever gotten this far away from the House of Hades, let alone made it inside this forbidden space, and yet, there you were, trembling as you held her narrowing gaze still.
why? what kind of foolishness mightve brought you to her? what a silly, brazen little shade you must be to even try, but before Megaera could consider any possibilities about what you might be made of, a searing pain tore through her lower back.
a gasp clawed out of her gut, dragging up with it a small splatter of blood that coated her lips. as Megaera tore her eyes from you to her stomach, she found the tip of Zagreus's sword lodged right through her waist.
"y-you... wre-etched... " she choked, then coughed again. with the little time she had left, Megaera looked over her shoulder at the young determined prince and snarled a smile full of bloody teeth before she spat, "next time, i-i will... have you... kneeling before m-me... Za-agreus."
the fury was beginning to fade, but with the very last moments of her current awareness, she threw a burning glare at you, daring you to try anything near her again.
Megaera snarled as she came to and pushed herself to her feet in the resurrection pool of blood, snatching her whip from the shallow beside her and quickly marching out, shaking the sticky blood from her hands and raking it out of her long lilac-blue ponytail. You were all she xould think about: the shade who had snuck in, distracted her, watched her get outmatched by that smart-mouthed prince of Hades. she had to find you and punish you as she saw fit.
blowing off Thanatos before he could say anything to her, not that her blazing rage that licked at the air around her like coughed up sputters of lava from a volcano didn't do enough to stop his attempt anyway, the Fury snapped out her one sharp wing and took off, rushing back to her domain in hopes that you had been petrified where you stood. when she landed with a thunderous crash and found you there still, a bubbling snarl rose to her throat.
"You." Megaera prowled towards you, cutting her whip through the air just to make you flinch, and just as you opened you mouth to apologise and explain, she roared and unleashed her weapon, the force of the wind caused by it's movement alone knocking you back into the very pillar you had been hiding behind. not a moment after you'd caught the breath knocked from your lungs did you find it firmly restricted once again, Megaera's whip binding you securely to the marble pillar itself.
Megaera stood with her arms crossed for a moment, her endless rage sparking under her teal skin, brightened by the gold ornaments that gleamed around her arms and waist and neck. she watched you squirm in the tight coil of her whip, a grin stretching across her rouged lips as your panicked eyes eventually met hers. you knew all she could do, and you could tell from her easy cadance walking close to you that she knew it also.
"Tell me, you impudent shade, why were you in my domain? for what reason would you think you could be here and not be discovered?"
Megaera purred, but her voice was devoid of warmth, promising that the wrong answer would only end in pain. she kept sauntering closer and closer to you until her iron breath caressed your face, then placing her hand beside your head on the pillar, the fury ran her tongue across her teeth, leaned over you and finished, "What made you think you were that clever to enter the arena of a Fury and escape unpunished? Do tell."
now you knew you had a heart, since it thumped hot and hard in every corner of your being. you couldn't pull your eyes from hers even though everything in you screamed to. you swallowed hard, knowing there was no way out of this so with a sigh, gave in and told the truth.
"I-I... I s-saw you once, in the lounge. I'd h-heard about you but... I just wanted to see you- to watch you fight, i mean."
Megaera frowned at your words but inside her, something was turning. "Is that so?"
you nodded quickly, then instantly shivered it when you watched the burning anger in her gaze reduce to a contained simmer, gold winking in the light of the fires around you both.
The Fury watched you, the hot blush in your cheeks, listened to the thundering of your heart in your chest, could almost taste the terrified awe in the air around you, not that she wasn't used to it. But... you thought she was incredible.
Megaera thought back to the fight with Zagreus, the moment she'd met your gaze, how wide and full of.. adoration it had been. it wasnt disgust, or disdain, or fear. it was... shock, awe maybe... something else.
"How long have you been watching me?" she whispered, leaning closer, pulling on the end of the whip and purring a smile when you whimpered.
the leather of her whip burned as it pressed into your throat, the hissing sting snatching every thought from your mind. after finding your breath, you tightly confessed, "I've... seen you fight Prince Z-Zagreus... 13 times. I didn't mean t-to intrude. I just.. wanted to see you fight for myself."
Megaera blinked twice quickly. 13 times. it took at least a week for Zagreus to get through all of Hades and reach the surface, so for 13 weeks you had been watching her, not in disgust, or disdain, something else that made you come back.
"Why?"
again the Fury pulled the whip tighter, and again it dug into your body, making you gasp as you blinked through the stinging pain, but as it subsided, you looked up into her honeyed gaze with desperation and honesty, muttering with embarrassed timidity. "I... think you're... really cool. Incredible, even. T-That's all."
Incredible.
a pulse flickered in Megaera's bottomless core. No one had ever used such a word to describe her in... longer than she knew. those words settled deep in Megaera's heart faster than she could stop them, and once they were there, everything in her clung to them like they were the only thing keeping her alive.
What were you that such simple words could elicit such a profound internal symphony that almost sent her shivering with shock? how could she have not known such power existed? when you looked at her with that pleading gaze, with eyes that were so raw with truth, full of goodness, of... something, it was impossible to lokk away. in your eyes was something that was more than respect, more than fear, more than adoration... love was the only thing more than all three.
yes, that must be the only explanation. You loved watching her, you loved seeing her fight, loved seeing her, loved her. You loved her. how fickle, how very mortal of you... and yet...
Megaera huffed a laugh as she stepped back to look at you, all of you that apparently loved all of her. The Fury couldn't believe it. a simple shade had risked everything to tell her, to show her that they loved her. how enrapturing.
the lilac haired punisher of jealousy was quickly overcome with something that, in the scope of all that had just happened, must felt like love too, but she wanted it for herself alone. this pulse of heat within her because of you and the way you looked at her, it was for her, and it would always be hers. anything that threatened to take it away would be destroyed. it had to be.
with that resolve fluttering inside her, Megaera gently brushed your cheek with the back of her fingers, then lifted your chin with her finger. when you flinched at her cool touch, she grinned and cooed sweetly, "Hm. Oh, my curious little shade. If you love it so much, then you will stay here to watch me. You will be able to witness my greatness for as long as you want, as many times as you want. Yes, you will stay right here, but if you betray this trust, there will be consequences. Have I made myself clear?"
As you nodded, likely out of fear of saying otherwise, Megaera's heart tightened once again. Yes, you loved her, and now, she would fight to show you how much that love meant, to prove that she was the only one you needed to love, to make you love her even more. It wouldn't be hard.
No one else would take your eyes from gazing upon her. Not Zagreus, not her sisters, not even Lord Hades himself. Your endless gaze was hers now, and by extension, so were you.
end
First Impressions
Fire and Ice: Part 10
<next>
<prev>
<first>
Windclan had returned to the forest by the end of the day. Every cat had returned to their respective clan. Almost every cat.
Whiteclaw’s death had extinguished most feelings of triumph Sandstorm had held earlier that day. She’d told the group that they shouldn’t cross Riverclan territory when Fireheart had suggested it. But, unable to explain her reasoning with a Riverclanner standing right next to her, she’d been completely outvoted. Then, surprise, surprise, Leopardfur had called an attack against the patrol.
Sandstorm picked irritably at her uneaten prey. Though she’d totally called what had happened, she couldn’t shake the feeling of wrongness that surrounded the situation. As much as she despised the kittypet, even she knew his suggestion had been reasonable. But she got the sense that they weren’t supposed to be there at all.
“Sandstorm.”
Sandstorm broke out of her thoughts as Tigerclaw padded up to her. She quickly dipped her head in respect.
“Yes, Tigerclaw?”
He paused, tilting his head slightly. Whatever he was going to say stopped as he peered down at her. His expression was unreadable, “Do you often eat by yourself?”
Sandstorm shifted, slightly self-conscious. She knew most cats shared tongues as they ate, but she'd never thought of herself as strange for never taking part. Well, almost never, but she refused to let her thoughts wander there.
“I suppose so.”
Tigerclaw frowned at that. Sandstorm felt a mixture of embarrassed and defensive. Maybe she should’ve taken up Whitestorm’s offers to sit with him, or Dustpaw’s when she was an apprentice. Anything to not have the deputy himself judging her.
Tigerclaw hummed, “Well then, take your prey and come sit with us, we can discuss there.” He turned away.
What?
“Pardon?”
Tigerclaw looked back, whiskers twitching in amusement, “Are you coming?”
Sandstorm was quick to obey, heart pounding. The deputy had taken notice of her, and she'd be lying if she said it didn’t feel good.
Fireheart had gone to his nest as soon as he arrived back at camp. He couldn’t shake the feeling that he’d been responsible for Whiteclaw’s death. After all, he’d been the one to convince Windclan to cut through Riverclan territory after his dream. Granted, he’d assumed it would’ve been okay since Stonefur was there.
Either way an innocent cat was dead because he’d misinterpreted a dream. If Starclan hadn’t been speaking to him before, they definitely weren’t going to contact him now. Shimmering Eye was right, he wasn’t ready to meet them He closed his eyes, slipping into sleep.
-
Fireheart was not sure where he was, besides the grass below him, this place was completely void of life. The air was flat and silent, no wind stirred and the loudest sound was his own heartbeat. Endless fields and hills stretched out in all directions.  In all appearances, it was identical to the In-Between. But, what gave the this plane away was its sky,
The In-Between was completely monochromatic. Sometimes it varied in shades of red, other times blue, and so on. The sky was always a singular, dark color. Here had various shades of purple, but the sky was a myriad of blues, greens and violets.
It was certainly beautiful, but Fireheart had no interest in sight-seeing. He needed to find Shimmering Eye. She was always there before him, but she was nowhere to be seen. He sat where he’d appeared. He could wait.
“Go...”
“-honor..”
“is....right-”
“hush”
“can....hear?”
“you...can....me?”
“...can you hear me?”
“...open...eye...”
“...yes...”
“...open...”
“Open them.”
--
Fireheart gasped sharply, eyes snapping open. He wasn’t sure when he’d closed them, though darkness still clouded his vision. The voices receded quickly. His sight was a little slower to return.
“Can you hear us?” A voice had boomed in Fireheart’s head.
He sprang to his feet, bristling as the last of his vision clearing. He didn’t know what it was, but there was a mass of something that resembled the plane’s sky moved in front of him. The more he tried to make sense of it’s ever-changing shape, the more his head ached. He caught sight of an eye, then six, then two,  what he thought might have been ears, a mouth...mouths, and teeth, many teeth, no teeth, sharp teeth, very sharp.
His body screamed at him to run, but whatever sense he held told him that would be a very poor idea.
“Oh...” What sounded like understanding lined its voice, “I am sorry, it has been so long.”
The mass shrank, and slowly began to morph, taking the shape of something less mind boggling. Something like a cat soon stood in its place. Its height was a bit hard to decipher since its body still shifted in place, but it sported a pelt made of the night sky, a pair of glowing, pink eyes, somewhere around two to five ears and long, flowing tail.
The creature offered him a toothy smile that did nothing to ease his fears, “Clearly there has been a misunderstanding,” it said, gently brushing his chin with its tail. “I assure you, I am no monster.”
Fireheart sincerely doubted that, though, whatever it was couldn’t be worse than he thought.
Its eyes brightened with glee. “I’ve come as the chosen representative of Starclan.”
Fuck, it was worse than he thought.
Sandstorm is invited to eat at the cool kids table while Fireheart is faced with his sins.
Originally this was just the last picture and Fireheart’s lines, but stuff happens I guess. Also Sandstorm has become a much more significant character than I originally intended.
Maybe Starclan should’ve been a little more clear with their new apprentice about their intentions, but it’ll all get sorted out...eventually.
I really need to make myself a size and age chart.
Once I'd reached the stairs, I was kicking my heels off and springing up the steps, two at a time. Reaching the top, I clutched the railing for a second as if to ground myself as a sob ripped through me, my palm covering my mouth again as if it could stop the sounds. I padded quickly across the carpeted floor, fumbling with the handle of my door before pushing it open blindly, stumbling inside.
A sharp gasp was stolen from me when I walked in, more tears clouding my eyes. I hastily swiped them away with my palms, desperate to get a good look of the man before me. His cerulean eyes, long and thick dark hair, his undeniably visible metal arm...
Then his lips met mine. Not desperate or hard like usual, but gentle and slow, as if I would shatter to a thousand pieces if he even held my soft face with too much pressure. "Y/n." he said seriously, but a small smile still glistening in his deep blue eyes. "Soldier." I responded, reflecting his playful seriousness. He pulled me in for another passionate kiss, my whole body relishing in its tenderness. The soldier bought his mouth next to my ear, leaning over me and holding my waist carefully. My thoughts raced one another over and over, but there was always a clear winner: I had him back.
His compassionate whisper floated past my ear, dancing around the loose curls of hair that were tucked messily behind my ear, a whirlwind of emotions tunnelling through me, allowing the butterflies to roam free as he murmured "It's Bucky, by the way."
"We're done."
A frown settled across my face, my head snapping the the side to see Steve stood gobsmacked and clearly hurt in the door. He must've followed me, to make sure I was alright and now he's seen this, and - how long had he been standing there?
"Steve, it's not what it looks like." Bucky tried, now also looking at the Super Soldier.
"So it's not my best friend kissing my girl? Hm?" Steve almost whimpered, as if the words physically hurt him to say.
"Well, yes, but-"
"No. No buts. I don't give a shit what you have to say." Steve interjected me, the harshness of his voice cutting through me like a knife. "Have a nice fucking life." He spat, before turning and retreating out of the door. I started wistfully after him, before glancing back to Bucky and opening my mouth to speak.
"Go. I'll talk to you later." He answered for me, a reassuring glint in his blue-grey eyes. I gave him a small nod and a grateful smile before instantly running after Steve.
"Steve! Steve, wait!" I called after him, but the man's strides were so damn long I couldn't catch up to him even whilst running. "Please, let me explain!" He turned around at that, my body colliding with the wall of muscle that was his torso.
"What's there to explain, y/n?" He said, defeated.
"I- I don't really know. I just don't want to lose you." I murmured, placing my hands of his chest and looking up at the man through my lashes. He wrapped his hands around my wrists before yanking them away from his chest, tears stinging in my eyes. "I love you, Steve." I whispered, for the first time. Steve averted his gaze with a frustrated sigh.
"It's a little too late for that. You can tell Bucky he won't be hearing from me either." Steve spoke, dropping my wrists and turning to leave again. I didn't follow him this time, I didn't call after him, I just sunk to my knees, head in my hands, and cried.
...
It had been nearly an hour since y/n had left in search of Steve, and there still was no sign of her. Bucky began to worry, chewing his already short fingernail as he became more and more scared. Now, weather it was the thought of y/n getting hurt that scared him or one of her in Steve's bed, he didn't know.
The super soldier was just pushing up from where he'd perched himself on her surprisingly luxurious bed when the door creaked open, the shock of it giving Bucky a little start as he flinched slightly. Y/n stood in the doorway for a moment, eyes red-rimmed and looking almost dead - so dry from crying for so long it looked almost uncomfortable, which of course it was. She held a near empty whiskey bottle in her hand, which almost fully explained her state.
Bucky stood from the bed abruptly, taking the few strides that it took to close the gap between them as y/n kicked the door closed with her foot.
"You didn't find Steve?" He asked worriedly, hands coming up to cup her face. Y/n scoffed, letting out a slurred, humourless laugh.
"Oh I found him alright." She crocked.
"And? Should I go speak to him?" Buck urged, desperately trying to meet y/n's eyes but she adverted her gaze to some plotted succulents that occupied her bedside table.
"That's probably not the best idea. At all." She deadpanned, moving out of Bucky's grip before flopping onto the bed and blowing out a big sigh.
When Bucky looked at her, he couldn't help but feel like she looked like a fallen angel. Her hair fanned around her face like a halo, the glaring light from the room creating shining highlights over her skin, her lips pouted almost sinfully; and yet her dress was skew-whiff and her mascara ran down her cheeks, the reddened look to her eyes almost devilish.
Y/n brought the whiskey bottle up high enough to unscrew the cap, tilting her head up enough so she could take another swig of the golden liquid. But she was predictable, the drink's effects slowing down her movements and before her lips met the rim of the bottle Bucky was swiping it from her hands, letting it settle on the little table next to her bed.
"I think you've had quite enough of that." Bucky scolded, a frown morphing his once-soft features. Y/n blew out a frustrated sigh, sitting up and crossing her arms over her chest like a little girl throwing a tantrum.
"And I think you should stop telling me what to do." She bit back, her snarky attitude telling Bucky everything he needed to know about why people avoided the Stark's when they were drunk.
"C'mon, doll. Why don't we just get you into some more comfort clothes and into bed?" Bucky suggested, y/n standing up to become nose-to-nose with him as he spoke. "I'll help with the zip if you like." He offered, gesturing for y/n to turn around. But her attention was elsewhere, eyes glued to his plump pink lips that she was kissing not to long ago. Maybe the distraction would help...
"Doll-" Bucky began but y/n was quick to cut him off.
"Just shut up and kiss me, soldier." Y/n murmured breathily, eyes transfixed on his lips. Bucky threw all logic out the window, like those words were a new string of triggers. His rough hands cupped her face again, y/n letting out a shiver when the metal made contact with her flushed skin, before he was smashing his lips to hers in a desperate kiss.
Bucky walked her backwards until y/n's knees hit the bed, the girl falling into the plush covers. Bucky was quick to crawl over her, coving y/n's body with his own at his teeth nipped at her bottom lip and his hands explored her body like it was the first time. His touch was everywhere, leaving a trail of fire in its wake across her skin.
"Soldier, please." Y/n whines breathily, fisting her hands into his hair as Bucky trailed his kisses over her jaw. He hummed in agreement, beginning to kiss down her body before y/n was using her grip on his hair to yank his head back up. "I'm ready. Just please, get inside me." She begged, a sound that Bucky could listen to for hours if need be.
He nodded quickly, moaning as she fumbled with his belt and jeans zipper before wrapping her slim fingers around his hard cock. He kicked off his jeans and boxers, thrusting onto her hand slightly as he bunched y/n's dress around her waist and slid the thin piece of cloth to the side.
That's when his hand brushed against the silver blade strapped to her upper thigh, hand hand instinctively snapping away. Y/n giggled, a soft sound that was like a melody in the super-soldier's ear.
"I always like to be prepared when I'm in public." She informed him, her laughter gone when she realised that she may have scared him off. But a wide grin split over Bucky's face, his lips hovering over hers once again as he unsheathed the knife from the leather strap.
"Good girl. It seems I taught you well." He mumbled against her lips, giving the girl a quick kiss before pulling back from her and sitting back on his haunches.
He twirled the knife in his hands, smirking at the blade as he flipped it between his fingers until the tip rested at y/n's heart. Her breath hitched momentarily, eyes drifting forwards towards the silver dagger before a smirk of her own spread across her lips.
"Kinky. I always knew you'd be a freak if you were in the right headspace." She smirked, gasping lightly as the soldier flipped the blade again, this time holding it against her hip, under the dress, and hooked it into the waistband of her panties. He brought his lips her her ear, breath hot and foggy.
"And what sane person initiates knife play during sex?" He mumbled, nipping at her earlobe. Y/n giggled again, the endearing sound finding his cock and making it throb as it somehow grew even more.
"I never said that you were sane, soldier." Y/n whispers, enticing a small growl from Bucky as he nipped at her neck. Y/n gasped again, the blade tugging up harshly and snapping the band of her lace panties, the fabric falling from around her as he repeated the same action on the other side.
"Hands and knees. Now." He murmured gruffly in her ear, making y/n clamp her bottom lip between her teeth in an attempt to conceal her giddy smile, but the excited fling to her eyes gave away ever though the girl was having at that moment.
When she didn't move quick enough, bucky used his metal hand to flip y/n over, tugging her up onto her hands and pulling her ass flush against his hips. He ran his cock through her puffy folds, collecting her wetness and groaning at how much he found just from some kissing and knife-play.
"Fuck. You're soaked." Bucky praised, soothing a hand over her ass before it was cracking against the skin. Y/n yelped, jolting forward onto her forearms as bucky slid home with one deep thrust. "Fuck. Your little pussy just sucks me right in. Suck a fucking slut for me." Bucky grunted, pulling his hips back and snapping them into hers roughly.
Y/n cried out as Bucky tangled a fish in her hair, pulling the girl back against his best as he thrusted vigorously into her wet heat. His mouth next to her ear, Bucky brough his flesh hand to her neck again, knife still in grasp as the blade pressed slightly against the scar running across her neck.
You'd think it'd trigger something in y/n, make her uncomfortable or flood her with unwelcome emotions. But it did the opposite. To y/n, having one of the men she loved, who she knew to have endured the same trauma as she had at the same hands as her, with her knife pressed to her neck, it somehow made her feel empowered, like they were claiming the pain as their own - no one else's. She moaned loudly, now completely sobbed and completely aware that every time she jolted forward the knife scraped and scratched her skin ever so lightly, nicking the skin in a prickle that caused on or two drop of blood to trickle down her neck and slide over her collar bone.
"S'tight and warm. Fuck, you feel so good." Bucky husked into her ear, the words causing y/n's walls to flyer around his cock, causing both the assassins to moan loudly. "Touch that pretty clit for me baby, make yourself come all over my cock." He rasped, driving into her tight cunt even harder that before, if that was possible.
With a shaky hand, y/n reached down, rubbing small and tight circles against her bundle of nerves as Bucky's cock slammed into her balls-deep. Y/n cried his name as she came, her walls convulsing around Bucky wildly, her own orgasm triggering his.
Bucky grunted and groaned y/n's name as he stilled inside her, ropes of his come painting her slick walls. Her dropped the knife to the bed, placing his hands on her waist as he slowly pulled out of her. Y/n winced slightly as he did so, moaning at the feeling of their come mixed together and dripping down her thighs.
Y/n made to protest as Bucky got up, leaving her panting of the bed. He chuckled, placing a lingering kiss on her forehead before telling not to move and that he'd be back in a moment.
...
I didn't know how long he left the room for, but when Bucky returned he scooped me into his arms and carried me into the bathroom that was connected to me room and set me down on the marble counter, the warm feeling of the hot bath radiating against my skin, the mirror against my back dam with condensation and steam. I shivered slightly at the cold contact of the glass against my exposed skin, my mid elsewhere as I felt the super soldier slip me out of my dress and lift my into the bath after him.
He used a soapy cloth to clean me, rubbing it over my skin in soft circles, gently massaging my aching muscles. He littered my shoulders in kisses, his warm chest pressed to my back and his arms circled around me once he was done cleaning me.
"Did I help?" He pondered, tilting his head slightly although I couldn't see that.
"Hm?" I hummed, still slightly out of it.
"Did I help? Distracting you?" He rephrased and I nodded, cuddling against him further.
"Lots. I haven't really thought about st- that, since I saw you. So thank you." I smiled, and Bucky didn't miss the way I avoided Steve's name.
"I'm happy to help, Doll." He smiled back, pressing a kiss to my hair. We stayed like that for a while, his arms wrapped around me - one warm and one cool - my head against his shoulder and his nose buried in my hair.
After a while of comfortable silence, Bucky helped me out of the tub, where the water was now turning cold and my body was beginning to shiver - despite the warms radiating off him. He wrapped a towel around the both of us, leading me into the bed room and throwing me his t-shirt whilst he pulled on his boxers.
We climbed into bed, my head resting against his chest as I nuzzled into him, completely missing the way his gaze lingered on my face, or the was his hand carded through my hair and his lips pressed to my forehead because sleep had already pulled me under its lulling spell.
"Goodnight." He whispered against me, finally letting his blue grey eyes fall shut and his mind to rest, falling onto as deep a sleep as me as he slept the best he had since before the war, when him and Steve used to share a little apartment in Brooklyn.
My Type
(Hufflepuff!*)Reader X Draco
Fourth Year
There was a time when I was alone
Nowhere to go and no place to call home
My only friend was the man in the moon
And even sometimes he would go away, too
Summary: (Original request form @darcypottah) The events of the summer between fourth and fifth year unfold and you find yourself at Malfoy Manor more than you expected.
A/n: Okay, so I might have said that these summer ones would be shorted, but that was before I started writing it... so yeah it’s like 10k words. But every one of them is so cute and ugh, I’m in love you guys. It’s got fluff, it’s got angst, it’s got magic, what more could you want? Let me know what you think!! Also see the end note for some thoughts from me and my posting schedule!! Love y’all so much
Tumblr media
“Malfoy?” My mother asked. “You want to go to Malfoy Manor?” She was trying very hard not to yell at me and I could tell as I bit my lip and looked down.
“Draco invited me,” I argued weakly. “He... um.”
“He what? He’s tormented you for three years Y/n. And now you want to go to the lion’s den?” Her voice was raising as the invitation in her hand fluttered about with her spastic movements.
“It’s not like that mother,” I insisted. “He’s... you wouldn’t understand,” I shook my head, wrapping my arms around myself defensively. “No one understands.”
My mother took a deep breath and set the parchment on the mantle, facing the fire, her back to me.
“Your father would understand,” She whispered softly. “He always saw the best in people...”
My eyes dropped to the floor as my stomach sank because we were thinking the same thing: it was his trust in people that had led to his death in the first war, and now my mother thought it was happening again. After what happened with... Cedric and the rumors about...she was frantic about protecting me.
“Mother, please. Draco asked me to come. He sent an invitation,”
I looked to the fancy paper marked with the Malfoy seal: an invitation to a Summer Solstice Ball at the manor. I took a deep breath.
“He’s alone, mother. You have to see that,”
It killed me that she had kept me here all summer because of the news of what occurred during the Triwizard Tournament. My thoughts often lingered to Draco as I wrote to Abby explaining why I couldn’t come over to see her, as was the usual of my summers. I didn’t write to him, explaining, and though I wanted to... I found myself staring at a blank page with too many words and not enough to say.
“Very well, you may go,” She finally sighed out. “But Abby will be your plus one,”
My heart soared as I thanked her, hugging her and taking the invitation, rushing to my room to write to Abby and to tell Draco I was coming after all.
Abby was ecstatic about the invite and teased me about liking Draco still, but again, I insisted that we were friends, and that was all. It was a friendly thing to do, invite me to the Ball, and it was friendly when I responded:
~
Draco,
I’ll be there, I promise. Mother’s making me bring Abby—not that I don’t want her to come as my plus one, but it is first and foremost my mother’s wishes. I can’t wait to see you.
Your Hufflepuff,
Y/n
P.S. Yes, I’ve sent the invitation back with the proper RSVP. It’s included with this letter.
~
It was two weeks before the party, I could wait two weeks. Right?
_______________________
“What is that?” His father demanded, coming up behind him.
Draco flinched and quickly hid your letter behind the invitation.
“Another has RSVP’d to the ball, from school,” Draco responded coolly, counting the seconds until his father responded in tense anticipation.
“I see,” His father’s eyes narrowed. “Very well. Your mother and I are going out for the evening. We shall be back in the morning.”
“Yes father,” Draco sighed.
All summer, since the Dark Lord had returned, his parents had been going to meetings non-stop, leaving him alone at the manor. In the quiet of the house, away from the house-elves, he had read through your book about three times, pouring into the pages, finding comfort in knowing that the book was all that he had to know that you were real and not a figment of his imagination.
Behind the locked door of his room, he took your letter out and smiled. Though he was bitter that you hadn’t come, or written to him all summer, it all went away when he saw the letter upon the dining table.
Taking out his own parchment, he stared at it, wanting to write you back, but having no idea what to say, or how to respond that would make sense and not make him look like he was holding onto your every word—because he wasn’t. He was just fine. And you were just a friend.
A week remained until the ball, and his parents were barely at the manor despite the fact. The house elves were cleaning religiously each day, so he spent his days outside, under a tree, reading your book.
________________________________
Abby arrived two days before the party, and after the initial excitement of seeing each other, we had time to fawn over our dresses and laugh at the ridiculousness of it all.
“Is there a reason your dress is green,” Abby drawled. “To match a certain Slytherin we know?”
“No,” I refuted, growing red. “It was my mother’s. I’ve made adjustments of course, but it has nothing to do with Draco,” I defended.
“Who said I meant Draco?” Abby grinned.
I gave her a pointed look and rolled my eyes, failing to hold back a smile.
“I can’t believe you got invited to a Malfoy party,” Abby sighed wistfully as we lay awake, the stars coming out to play.
“It’s not that big a deal,” I laid on my back, staring at the swirling stars that lingered on my ceiling. “And, I did say I would come visit him over the summer,”
“You miss him,” It wasn’t a question, it was a melancholy statement.
“Somedays, yes.” I confessed, taking a breath in. “It’s harder at night... after you know...”
“What did happen between you two on that day? At the tournament? There was something that you knew, that really freaked you out. I know you Y/n, you rarely get that bad for Pomfrey to give you all three,” Abby sat up, looking over at me.
“I know, and... what Dumbledore said... about... you know... and my dad... and Cedric... It was too much that night, it still is most nights,” I sat up and hugged my knees. “And he was right there. He was as scared as I was... and he still... stayed.”
“I know I tease you about it a lot, but you know it is okay to like him, right?” Abby looked over at me, a soft look on her face.
“I know,” A smile touched my lips. “But I don’t know if either of us is ready for anything more than what we have now.”
That thought stopped me from writing to him constantly or doing something Slytherin worthy to go and see him. We needed to figure out what we needed, and right now, a friend was that.
The night of the Ball, Abby and I spent hours getting ready in my room, music playing for hype. It was great fun, preparing for the unknown with Abby. It calmed my nerves about seeing Draco for the first time in about a month.
“See, you should have gone to the Yule Ball with us,” She pointed out, setting an embellished headband in my hair, her options now much smaller that I had cut it, not that I was complaining. It was the easiest getting ready I ever had.
“Like I would have made it through that night,” I scoffed.
“What makes this one different?” The challenge caught me in my tracks, and I knew the answer deep down, but I was in denial about it: I had said yes to Draco this time.
The Malfoy Manor held up to its expectations as Abby and I arrived, greeted by a house-elf that asked for our names. After giving them and being escorted inside, our coats ushered off, I paused, taken aback by the glittering scene before me. It was like I had stepped into one of my books and it was a proper royal ball. My eyes scanned the sea of people, looking for silvery blond hair that I knew to be Draco, but I couldn’t see him in the crowd.
Abby took my arm and we headed into the throng of people, and I tried to ignore the stares that lingered on the two of us. I recognized several people from the Ministry, and professors from school, and of other places that were highbrow. Many greetings were exchanged, and I was becoming slightly overwhelmed, making my way to the outskirts of the noise.
“Miss Y/l/n,” The icy tone tipped me off that I was being called by a Malfoy.
“Mr. Malfoy,” I smiled politely, dipping in a slight bow. “May I congratulate you on your party,” My compliment was light and airy, opposed to the deep dark look Lucius Malfoy was giving me.
“Yes,” The word held disappointment and a thousand meanings. “You look so much like your mother,” His eyes all but stripped me. My hands clenched as I took a sharp breath in. “I believe she wore that before you,”
“Yes,” I responded blithely.
“It suits you as it did her, a fine Slytherin at Hogwarts,” There was a challenge in his eyes, as if he were trying to find what would make me come undone.
“She was,” I smiled, thinking of her and the comfort the thought gave.
“I heard that you are Hufflepuff, like your father then?” His eyes narrowed, disgust in his voice.
“Yes sir,”
“A shame he died in the war,” Lucius gave off hand. “Must have been difficult to grow up without a father,” There was no pity or sentiment in his voice.
I grit my teeth, pursing my lips together.
“He died for something he believed in,” I whispered. “It was the greatest example he could have set for me,” There was a fire in my eyes as I looked into a cold stare.
Lucius opened his mouth to say something, but I felt a hand at the small of my back and from my peripheral vision I could see blond hair and a cold look.
“Father, I see you’ve met Y/n, she attends Hogwarts with me,” His voice dripped acid as he took a small step in front of me.
“Yes, she is quite charming,” It was a lie. “If you’ll excuse me. And Draco, do not forget, you owe your mother a dance,”
As soon as his father was out of sight, I all but sagged in relief, turning to Draco. There was a small smile on his lips, and I greeted it with one of my own.
“Thank you,” I whispered.
“You’re okay?” There was concern in his voice.
I nodded and looked back to the way Lucius had left. I took a deep breath and let his comments slide off of my shoulders. I wouldn’t let him ruin my night.
“You... um... look lovely,” Draco stammered as we stood there, quite awkwardly.
“Thank you,” my cheeks flushed a slight pink like his. “You’re rather handsome yourself.” He was in a well-tailored suit with a green tie that held the same hue as my dress.
“Thank you,” A smile caught his lips as his cheeks reddened.
“So, this is a Ball,” I mused, looking out onto the happy party goers. “It’s very warm,”
“Depends on the company you keep,” His voice got colder for the moment, no doubt his thoughts directing towards his father.
“Well, I hope I’m good company,” I baited, grinning at him.
“You’ll do,” He grinned back, offering his arm.
I took it, walking along the halls surrounding the party, all lit with hundreds of fairy lights. A few hellos and introductions were made as we walked along. Seeing Snape outside of the school halls was a bizarre experience.
“Why didn’t you write sooner?” The question was soft as Draco and I found another moment alone.
“I’m really sorry about that. My mother was being overly protective,” I muttered as we walked among the outskirts of the party. “I did want to,” I clarified.
“It’s been so dull here. My parents are always out...”
“And they just leave you here?” I was slightly appalled. “You could have written me, we could have figured something out,”
“You said your mother was being overly protective,” he pointed out. “Besides, it’s fine. It’s done now,”
“I’m sorry Draco, if I had known,”
“Well, you’re here now, aren’t you?” He gave a hesitant smile. “A few others from school are here as well, I believe Abby already found them.” He changed the subject quickly and put up a front I knew all too well.
“I’m sure she did. She has a knack for that,” My tone became somber as I found the same mask he did and donned it.
He led me to a sitting room off the main foyer where a group of students from Hogwarts chatted and lounged. Most of them I recognized from Slytherin but there were a few others from different Houses.
“Y/n!” Abby called. “I was wondering where you went, you just vanished,” she scolded in a soft voice not to raise attention.
“I’m sorry, I don’t like large crowds, you know that,” My voice dropped to a mutter, while I fidgeted with the lace on my dress.
“I guess it’s a good thing I brought her back then?” Draco smirked, joining our conversation and bringing Pansy with him.
“Oh, like you didn’t go looking for her,” Pansy baited. “Merlin, you two,” She muttered under her breath
I felt my cheeks blush as Abby handed me a glass of what I hoped was not alcoholic. A gentle sip and I knew it wasn’t. I didn’t prefer the carbonated drink however, so I held it politely with no intention of drinking more.
“Is it better in here?” Draco’s voice was low and soft, I barely heard him.
I gave a small inconspicuous nod and a smile.
“Let me know if you need a break,” he whispered and then went to talk with Crabbe and Goyle.
My face warmed up again as I leaned against the wall, talking with Abby and Pansy about the party and the people and what we had done over the summer thus far. It was great fun, and a warm atmosphere but I found myself slipping into a sort of panic, as too many questions were asked, and the noise rose. My fingers thrummed against the glass as I got more fidgety.
“Excuse me,” I whispered, setting my glass down.
“Do you need me to come with you?” Abby asked concerned.
“No, I just need some air... I’ll... yeah,” I swept out of the room without another word and found myself hopelessly lost in the large house.
“There you are,” Draco’s annoyed voice came from behind me. “Seriously, Y/n you can’t just roam around here alone.” He hissed; fear hidden in his eyes letting me know that it was dangerous to be alone tonight.
“I’m sorry,” my gaze dropped. “I...” sighing, I shrugged.
“If you don’t like crowds and lights and noise, why did you come?” He asked, his tone softer as he led me in a better direction, it still stung though.
“I don’t know,” I confessed softly. “I thought I’d give it a try... and I... I missed you.”
“You missed me?” He scoffed, rolling his eyes as if he couldn’t believe it. “Am I not allowed to miss you?” I demanded, watching disbelief flit across his face.
“I guess,” he led me down a long hall, and to a smaller foyer that had a door leading outside.
Guiding me through the door, he took my hand in the moonlight and led me with practice down a path to a small garden of roses. I took great care in walking, not trusting myself completely in the heels I wore. The lights around us began to illuminate, and fairy lights twinkled all around, lighting the rose garden and the two of us.
“Is this quiet enough?” His demeanor had changed, his voice now colored with concern again.
I nodded and sat upon a bench, taking a deep breath, toying with my dress again. He sat beside me, as the same awkwardness from the Tournament and earlier hovered over us. Like whatever walls we had between us were gone, and it was just him and I out here; not Houses or expectations or our pasts. It was nerve wracking. Instead of focusing on that, I watched the stars swirl in the night sky above us.
“Lovely view,” I commented softly.
“Too bad it’s just us out here,” He sighed.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” I asked, curiosity stretching a smile on my face as I stole a glance.
“Well, isn’t it a bit... I don’t know,” He took a sharp breath in and shrugged. “Romantic?”
I let out a soft laugh, hope fluttering in my chest, in vain of course, but it was there all the same. A blush rose to my cheeks as I focused on anything that wasn’t him.
“Maybe,” I murmured.
“Some other couple would love this,” He gestured softly, and I rolled my eyes, finally giving in and looking at him.
“And why can’t we enjoy it?” I challenged. “Shame to waste a lovely night,”
He gave me a flat look and stood.
“You can’t be serious,” Draco scoffed and faced away from me. “You’re not my type.”
A laugh bubbled through my lips as I stood.
“Really?” I dared. “And who is? Pansy maybe?” I took the few steps that laid between us, so that we were side by side again, gazing over the night sky.
He shrugged and didn’t say anything.
“I think I’ll be the one to make that call though,” I decided. “Of course, I’d never fall for you,” I scoffed at the mere thought and rolled my eyes, seeing if he would play my game.
“And what makes you think you get to make that decision? Are you going to make it for me?” His eyes found mine, his eyebrows raised.
“Of course not,” I narrowed my eyes at him, “But, you’re right, this would be nice for some girl who feels the chance that there’s some sort of romance but,” I shrugged teasingly. “I’m feeling nothing,” A smirk played at my lips.
He paused a moment, and I could see the gears working in his head. Would he play the game, or would he call me out on it? What call would he make?
“Is that right?” He was playing. Game on.
“Could be less than nothing,” I pressed further, turning from him, facing the rest of the manor and the rolling hills that were bathed in moonlight.
“Good to know,” He came up behind me, placing his hands at my waist. “What a waste of a lovely night then,”
______________________________
A million thoughts were swirling around Draco’s head. He had caught your game after a few comments that couldn’t be anything but teasing from your lips. He knew you too well. So, he’d play along.
You denied it, and so did he. What it was, however, was another matter. You didn’t seem to take his negating words to heart though and maybe he didn’t either.
If he would share this night with anyone, he would want it to be you. He didn’t feel this... different about anyone else. You mentioned Pansy, but he couldn’t imagine her out here with him like you were. There was something different about how you treated him that made him want it to be you.
With you so close to him, relaxing in his arms like you did the night you two accidentally ended up in the same bed, he felt the similar peace that you held about yourself.
“Draco,” His mother’s voice called softly from behind him. “I thought I’d find you out here,” Draco turned, and so did you, a blush creeping across your face.
“Mrs. Malfoy,” You greeted softly. “My apologies for keep Draco away. I’m afraid I’m not one for large crowds,”
You held such decorum that he was honestly impressed. The way you spoke respectfully and with dignity was a sight to behold. It was almost devious in the way that you did it.
“Think nothing of it my dear,” Oh, his mother liked you, he could tell from the use of the pet name. “But your father is looking for you,” Her eyes met his, but all he could notice was how your face dropped.
“Of course,” He answered coldly. “Come Y/n,” He urged softly, leading you inside.
You followed wordlessly, lost in thought again by the look you held on your face. He was so preoccupied with thinking about what you were thinking, he had missed what his father said to him.
“Draco,” His father scolded sharply. “You are not to be skirting around alone with her. You have a reputation and people to impress tonight. Now, bid her a goodnight and find your mother to offer her a dance,”
How could his father still sap any joy from him with a few words?
“Goodnight Draco,” Your voice was somber as your eyes didn’t leave the floor, “Excuse me,”
Before he could get a word in, you pushed past him, down the hall toward the sitting room that held the rest of his friends, leaving him alone with his father.
“Father,” Draco snapped. “That was uncalled for,” His glare matched his father’s.
“Excuse me?”
“Y/n is a friend,” Draco stressed. “And I won’t let you treat her that way,”
Following your lead, he left before his father could get a word in, knowing that there would be hell to pay for what he was doing, but he couldn’t get the image of how broken you looked out of his mind as he raced off to find you.
And he did find you. With Abby by your side, you looked as if you were about to cry. Clenching his fists and pressing back the rising anger against his father, he made his way to you quickly.
“What are you doing?” You asked hoarsely. “You need to go socialize, impress people,” It wasn’t malicious, but he still took a hit from your words.
“I’ll just... leave you guys to it,” Abby muttered, quickly making her way out of the room.
You attention turned back to him as you awaited an answer, and honestly, he did too. He had no idea why he chased after you instead of doing what he was bred to do. He should have had no problem going out into the mass of people and charming them into liking him. But their opinions didn’t matter to him. Yours did.
“Come with me,” He blurted out. “Come... out there, with me. Socialize, and...” he trailed off knowing he was crazy and stupid for asking.
“Draco, that’s... I can’t.” Your voice was hopeless. “I can’t do large crowds and people...”
“I know,” He cut you off. “But you’ll be with me, that... that always seems to help you,” It was a long shot that his observation was correct, but he was desperate on making this work at the moment.
And to his surprise, you nodded and agreed to go with him. He led you to the main room, and though you spoke softly and rarely, he could tell that people were enamored with you, wondering who you were and why you would be on his arm. You’d absentmindedly tug on his sleeve when you became overwhelmed and he’d take you to a quiet spot for a moment and let you gather yourself again before meeting someone else.
He only left you when his mother finally found him for the dance that was promised and as the night closed, he couldn’t find you again.
As soon as Draco let go of my arm, I felt panic slip over me as I was alone. Abby was by my side before I could blink as she grabbed my hand and led me to the coat room then outside for fresh air.
“You okay?” She asked, animate.
I nodded and pulled my cloak around myself tightly.
“Let’s get home then,” She encouraged, and we used the portkey as before and were standing outside of my front door.
Inside, I sank onto the couch, ignoring my mother’s questions as tears started to fall softly. All of my emotions came crashing down all at once and it was too much. Abby explained it all to my mother, who understood and quietly took me upstairs and helped me out of my dress and makeup, finding me soft pajamas as she brushed through my hair.
“You like this boy, don’t you?” My mother asked softly.
I nodded hopelessly, a few more tears slipping out.
“Oh sweetheart, it’s okay,” She gathered me into her arms, and I felt safe enough to come completely undone, crying into her shoulders.
“He’s so alone momma,” I whimpered.
“I know sweetheart,” She soothed, petting my hair softly. “You remind me so much of your father, he had a heart just like yours,”
“What am I supposed to do?” The question was hopeless as I fumbled for an explanation.
“For right now, you’re going to calm down and unwind,” My mother chided. “No use worrying in something that can’t be changed right now,”
I nodded at the familiar words and took a deep breath, getting my thoughts under control. Again, and again I repeated the words my mother said. There was no use in worrying about it now. It could be dealt with in the morning. Tomorrow was another day. I had done what I could with the day and that was good enough.
Abby was waiting for me, sitting on my bed, three familiar vials in her hands.
“I’m okay,” I confirmed. “I don’t think I need them,”
“You need to take them anyway, there’s no harm in it,” She chided, placing them in my hands. “This is twice now that he’s gotten you this worked up.”
“It’s not his fault,” I snapped venomously. I took a deep breath and composed myself. “It’s not him.”
“But these situations he’s getting you into,” Abby tried again. “This isn’t good for you Y/n,”
“I’m getting myself into these situations, well, the first one I had no control over, and I don’t know if I could have done that one without him, and tonight...” A sharp breath in and I sat on my bed beside her. “I knew it was a bad idea, I just thought I’d try,”
“You can’t do this to yourself, it’s self-destructive,” She stood, allowing me to curl up under the covers.
I toyed with the first vial, running through my fingers. Abby turned off the lights and got into her bed, settling down for the night.
“He needs someone,” I argued softly. “And... I think I do too,”
“And you think that it should be him?”
“Yes... I think so,” I whispered, taking the first vial, making my way through the next two and falling into a dreamless sleep.
________________________________
“Draco Lucius Malfoy!” His father roared. “How dare you speak to me like that!?”
Draco flinched, and stayed quiet, knowing that saying anything would make the outcome worse. The guests had gone and all that was left in the big empty house was him, his parents and the house-elves.
“After everything that I have done for you! I even let you invite that filthy little blood traitor! And you chose her over your family!?”
Draco clenched his fists, gritting his teeth, knowing it was going to be a painful sleepless night again. Not even his mother could stop his father when he was like this.
............
Looking in the bathroom mirror, the bruises and cuts on his face and skin started to heal already from the vial he kept under the sink for nights like these. It wouldn’t be long until he could wash away the dried blood. It didn’t matter what his father did to him, he still had to look presentable, and he always had a knack for potions.
He shed his suit as quickly as possible, finding comfort in sweats and a t-shirt, neither of which were tight fitting nor insulating. It was the middle of the summer and he was shoved into a three- piece wool suit. Whose idea was that anyway?
Pacing his room, muttering under his breath, he attempted to control his thoughts and anger but failed, letting tears fall behind locked doors. He let out a yell of despair and rage, scattering the things from his desk onto the floor, staring at the carnage.
He quickly panicked when he saw spilled ink weaving its way toward your book that had been thrown about in his fury. Rescuing the book, he smoothed the pages, repressing the dandelion on its proper page, rereading the words:
“Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he is good.”
Draco had spent the few months from when you had given him the book trying to figure out why you had underlined that. He memorized it accidently and found himself repeating it whenever he felt lost. After tonight, maybe, he thought, the reason was because that’s what you saw in him.
“She’s such a Hufflepuff,” He muttered, smiling to himself. “She’s going to get herself hurt one day,” The thought sobered his mood.
He brought the book to his bed and with the bedside lamp turned on, he began to read once more, getting lost in a world filled with hope and redemption. The thoughts of his father faded, of tonight faded, of the harsh words and expectations... they all slipped away.
Consciousness faded from his eyes as sleep welcomed him like an old friend. He found himself in a wintery forest, hopelessly lost. The chill was getting to him as he wrapped his arms around himself. Crunching through the snow, he saw a light ahead, and followed it.
“Bloody hell,” He muttered, finding a lamppost. “Maybe I’ve read it one too many times,”
“Hello?” The voice was soft and gentle, holding a familiar decorum.
He turned and saw you standing there, in a light blue long-sleeved dress with white fur accents, your hair falling about your shoulders, sweeping down to your waist—it made him miss your cropped hair, it didn’t quite look like you any longer. The frost caused your nose and cheeks to hold a red hue. You looked like you belonged in the scene around him, except for the mass of black fur in your arms.
“Well, what are you doing out in the cold?” You asked, talking to him like he was crazy, like you weren’t out in the snow as well.
“I didn’t choose to be here,” He muttered.
“Well, come on then, let’s get you warm,” You offered the mass of fur in your arms out to him and he realized that it was a thick coat.
Just as he reached for it, the dream faded into nothing.
When he woke the first bits of dawn shined through his window, and the book laid open across his chest. Rubbing his face and running a hand through his hair he sighed, setting the book on his bedside table.
“Get a grip Malfoy,” He muttered. “Fairytales aren’t real, they’re just stories... it’s stupid to believe in it,”
_____________________________
I woke in the morning, unusually early for me in the summer, and Abby was downstairs having breakfast with my mother. I paused on the stairwell—not because I almost tripped down the stairs.
“I’ve never seen her like this,” I heard Abby’s soft voice. “There’s something about him that just makes her... I can’t explain it.”
“Is she in danger?” My mother retorted. “I know the Malfoys. I know Lucius. I fear that Draco might be just like his father,”
There was a pause and I sank to the nearest stair, leaning against the railing, listening in.
“He was, for the first few years of schooling, you know it as well as I do. But when Y/n came back last year, she got a lot of attention... and I think he got jealous. She was close with Cedric last year...” Abby’s voice became somber. “I just feel like I’m missing something, something she won’t tell me,”
“She does that,” I heard the smile in my mother’s voice. “Every time I think I have her figured out, she’ll tell me something or do something that has me on my toes again. Her father was like that,”
“I think that’s a part of whatever’s going on too,” Abby noted. “Since... You-Know-Who has been rumored to be back... she’s been...”
“I know. I try so hard to keep her from it all. Which is why I don’t know if I want her to keep seeing Draco, his family was on the wrong side of the first war,”
That wasn’t new information to me, it was quite public.
“Forgive me if I’m stepping out of line, but I don’t think keeping Y/n from Draco will end well in any circumstance.” Abby muttered, chuckling darkly.
“She is stubborn that way, isn’t she?” The smile was back in my mother’s tone as I stood, deciding I had heard enough.
“Good morning sunshine,” Abby grinned obnoxiously. “Sleep long enough?”
I gave her a flat look and lumbered to the kitchen bar and sat at a stool, flopping my arms on the counter, laying my head on them. Breakfast came and past, and Abby said her goodbyes before heading home, leaving me alone by the fireplace, staring at nothing and thinking about everything.
“Why don’t you send an owl to Draco,” My mother suggested softly, setting a cup of tea near me.
I took a breath in and sighed.
“He probably hates me,” I voiced my thoughts aloud. “I left without saying goodbye... and I know he got into trouble because of me.”
“Well, if that’s the case, you can at least apologize,” There was something mischievous in my mother’s tone. “Write to him, dear,”
I sat at my desk, staring at the crumpled parchments that I had failed to write a cohesive letter on. This shouldn’t be that hard. Determined, I started again.
~
Draco,
I’m sorry about last night. I hope I didn’t get you into too much trouble and that you don’t hate me.
If you still want company and you’re not to upset with me
I hope you’re not upset with me,
Y/n
~
There, that would do wouldn’t it? Before I could second guess anything, I sent it off. Putting it out of mind, I set outside to work on my spells for next year and to read in the summer sun. The family owl, Herman, returned later that evening, as the sun was setting over the mountain range. The barn owl dropped the letter and dove off into the wheat fields to hunt.
The parchment was expensive, I could tell by the weight and grit of it. The green wax seal held a recognizable mark. Anxiety fluttered in my chest about what was inside, and part of me worried it might not be from Draco at all, but another Malfoy.
I took a breath and opened the letter.
~
Y/n,
Why would I be upset with you? It baffles me to know what goes on inside that head of yours.
And I can handle my father’s temper. I have for years. There’s no need to worry about that.
If you want to come to the Manor, my parents are going to be gone the next month. That is if you want to, and don’t mind the circumstance. I’ll have my mother write to yours.
I’m not mad at you, stop thinking that,
Draco
~
I ran my thumb delicately over the words on the page, a smile reaching my lips. He wasn’t mad at me. That was the biggest relief. His cryptic remark about his father worried me, however, but that could be worried about another day.
Fate was with me, because my mother consented to let me spend the afternoons at the Manor, as long as I was home for dinner. I sent a letter to Draco as soon as I found out and began to look forward to the next afternoon.
Draco met me outside the large front doors, looking as if he were trying not to smile. I didn’t care that a grin stretched across my face. Before I could stop myself, I jumped into his arms, hugging him. He was shocked a moment but returned the gesture. I pulled away quickly, blushing.
“Sorry,” I offered.
“No, it’s alright,” There was a suppressed teasing smile on his face. “Shall we?”
The house seemed even bigger now that it was empty, and it didn’t quite hold the same magic as it did the night of the Solstice Ball. He led me through the house and back down a familiar hallway and out to the rose garden once more. It was different during the day as the old oak trees created a canopy for us.
_________________________
Draco never actually thought that this would work and that you’d be here with him. Good things didn’t just happen to him, ever. But now he wasn’t alone, for the first time in his life. Maybe this month would be bearable.
“I... I brought the other books, if you want to read them,” Your voice was timid as sat in the same spot you did the night of the Ball, hugging your bag to your chest. “We don’t have to though, I just thought maybe,”
Your innocence made him smile, the softness of your demeanor. He never really noticed before.
You and he sat on the grass of the small garden hidden in the rose bushes to anyone onlooking, and he watched you read as he did at Hogwarts. The words fell from your lips, creating a moving picture in his head once more about the Pevensie children in Narnia.
“How much do you know about the muggle world?” The question slipped through Draco’s lips before he could stop it.
“Oh,” You closed the book, setting it in your lap. “Well, I mean, I know a bit more than most, not like my parents are muggle, but my father had a fascination for certain things, music, movies, books, stuff like that,” A shrug left your shoulders as you stretched out your legs, crossing your ankles.
Draco tried very hard not to notice that this was the first time he had seen you in shorts, ever. Your entire wardrobe changed in fact, it was void of school uniforms—sweaters and skirts—and heavily relied on shorts and cut off t-shirts with designs he didn’t understand. It almost suited you more, seeing you this carefree.
The summer sun faded, and you paused your reading, a sigh falling from your lips.
“I’ll see you tomorrow?” The question was hopeful from your lips as you stood. He gave a small nod and saw you to the door, watching you leave.
Dinner was quiet as he ate alone, wishing that you were still there with him. The house-elves had made it, as usual and set it in the dining room, like always. It was maddening, being alone. He never grasped how deafening it was until you were gone.
All he could do was wait for tomorrow as he tossed and turned all night.
“You look awful,” The quip came with a smile and an air of concern.
“Didn’t sleep well,” He muttered, leading you to a random sitting room that held a grand piano that he watched you eye enviously. You sat up right, in the corner of the couch, taking up the least amount of space possible as you began to read once more.
Knowing he was pushing his luck with whatever this was, he had no qualm about stretching out across the couch and laying his head in your lap.
You raised an eyebrow at him, and he challenged you with a smirk, daring you to say something. You didn’t. Instead you continued to read to him, your other hand falling and resting on his chest, counting the soothing breaths he took.
He wondered if you knew that you absentmindedly rubbed his chest with your thumb as you read. Or that you were driving him absolutely mad by doing it.
___________________________
When my words began to slur together too much to understand, I gave up reading and placed the book on the end table, realizing that Draco was fast asleep in my lap. It hurt, to see him like this. There was no fear or worry in his eyes, no look of distress or a façade of power in his features. He was at peace, like the weight of the world was off of his shoulders.
Carefully, I ran my hand through his hair, combing it back and out of his face. It was soft and silky. His eyes fluttered open.
“Hey there, sleepyhead,” I teased softly. “Have a nice nap?”
He sat up instantly, groaning and rubbing his face.
“Sorry?” He offered, defeated. “I wasted the entire afternoon, didn’t I?”
“I don’t mind, though I have no idea where to start the book again,”
He gave a hopeless laugh. I pulled my feet onto the sofa and angled myself towards him. He sat, his head in his hands, elbows resting on his knees. He was a burning man again.
“I’m sorry Y/n,”
It didn’t go unnoticed when he flinched as I reached out to rub his back comfortingly. My thoughts drifted back to his cryptic remark about his father from his letter and something burned within me.
“Don’t apologize for sleeping Dray,” I soothed, moving closer to him. “I’d rather you do that than be miserable all afternoon trying to humor me,”
The clock chimed and I sighed in defeat.
“I’ll see you tomorrow Draco, please get some rest,”
I laid awake in bed that night, wondering if Draco was taking my advice and sleeping, but I knew that it was probably a long shot to hope that.
I don’t know how it happened, but three weeks slipped through my fingers. I spent every afternoon with Draco, most times reading, inside or outside: in different rooms of the house, walking along the trails of the yard, under trees.
Sometimes he would fall asleep in my lap, or we’d just lay and watch the clouds and sleep claimed us both. There were days when he’d play the piano for me and I would sit beside him, watching quietly. Each time I saw him, he looked miserable, but it would fade by the time I left, a true smile touching his lips.
I arrived one afternoon, and Draco wasn’t outside as usual to greet me. Hesitant, I let myself in, my eyes searching for him. Hearing a clatter and shouting upstairs, I rushed up, nearly tripping in my fervor.
“Draco!?” I screamed, bursting through the door that separated us.
I was startled by the scene around me. Books were strewn everywhere, and a large armoire was thrown across the room, its doors fallen unceremoniously to the floor. Shredded clothing littered the room and the bed was barely standing, all of its four posts mangled. The wallpaper was sliced into nothing. But it wasn’t what was the most heartbreaking.
Draco was curled up on the floor, his head buried in his arms, his wand clutched in one of his hands as his shoulders shook. I barely heard his muffled sobs.
Taking out my wand I began to mutter the Repairing charm but paused. Instead, I put my wand away and made my way over to Draco, sitting beside him. I stared at the mess around us and slowly laid my head on his shoulder. He didn’t acknowledge me.
__________________________________
Draco wanted nothing more for than you to go away. He didn’t want you to see this. He didn’t want anyone to see this. He was a failure and a mess of a wizard who didn’t deserve anything. So, he most certainly didn’t deserve you sitting beside him, unafraid.
“I know you’re scared,” Your voice was soft and low. “I know you’re lonely, and I know it eats at you. I know that’s why you lash out,”
You paused, and he dared to peek at you. You were looking up at the ceiling, tears caught in your eyes as your lip was caught between your teeth.
“I know he abuses you, and it’s why you flinch whenever I try to touch you,”
Draco hung his head, his hand tightening around his wand.
“And I can only imagine what your father is doing now, being away. I know it can’t be good, even though some part of me wishes it was. And I know you wish that too,”
He looked up at you, and slowly your eyes met his. Carefully your hand rose, and he wasn’t afraid. Not of you. Your fingers brushed through his hair, moving it away from his eyes.
“There,” You whispered softly, a kind smile on your lips. “Not so bad is it? Words are powerful, Draco. Speaking them, even though you’re afraid, takes some of their power.” You eyes dropped down and you took a small breath in. “And pressing on despite them makes you stronger,”
For the first time, Draco saw the sadness you held in your eyes and the weight that you carried on your shoulders. And it occurred to him, you had a lot to carry. Your father had died when you were young, and you had lived with your mother alone in a house that probably reminded you of him every moment.
You spoke with such wisdom he wondered how long it took for you to learn the same lesson before you could teach it. You never liked large crowds and you probably missed a lot of incredible things because of it. Then, you had to go and become his friend. You took a chance on him when you had every reason to walk away.
A girl who ran away and hid in books that you shared with him. A girl who ran to stories because they were better than what went on around her. A girl who showed him the same escape.
Lost in his thoughts, he hardly noticed that you slipped his wand out of his hand and stood slowly, offering your hand to him.
“Let’s fix this, yeah?”
He didn’t know if you meant the room or him, but he nodded, wanting to do both. A smile spread across your face as you helped him up.
“Here, my aunt taught me,” Tucking his wand into your back pocket, you took his hand, standing beside him looking at the wreckage.
“In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun.” Your eyes shined. “Find the fun and snap,” You snapped your fingers. “The job’s a game,”
All around him he watched his room piece itself back together. The ruined walls mended themselves and the armoire reassembled and returned to its rightful position. The books picked themselves off the floor and reassembled and his bed made itself.
“What kind of spell is that?” His eyes darted around as the room continued to restore itself.
“Cleaning spell,” You smiled softly, “My aunt used to watch me when I was little, showed me how to clean up after I made a mess doing accidental magic,”
“You’re strange, you know that?” Draco smiled shaking his head.
“I know,” You quipped. “But you love it,”
There was a beat between the two of you as it dawned on you what slipped through your lips. Before you could amend it, he responded.
“I do,” And it was the truth.
You looked down; a smile still stretched across your face.
“I thought I wasn’t your type?” You drawled mischievously.
“Oh, I’m never going to live that one down, am I?” He dismayed, a chuckle leaving his lips.
“As if I’d let you,” You reached up and he still didn’t flinch as you wrapped him into a hug. “Thank you for letting me in,”
His arms wrapped around you in return. You were so warm and soft, and a chill ran through him as your fingers curled in his hair.
“Thanks for taking a chance on me.”
You two spent the rest of the afternoon curled up in his window seat. You didn’t read to him, and neither of you really talked. Instead you held him in your arms, absentmindedly petting his hair and humming. You watched the view outside the window, and he watched you.
And for the moment he felt safe and didn’t feel alone. Even when you left that evening, he still didn’t feel isolated. He knew you would be back for the few days that he had left before his parents return. And though that thought was worrisome, he didn’t let it bother him.
“My parents will be back soon, but so will she,” He spoke aloud to an empty house.
__________________________
“Draco?” I called to the nearly empty house again. “Draco!?”
“Here!” He responded, coming from in front of me somewhere. “Come on!”
“Come on where!?” I asked, following the sound of his voice.
“Come on!” “Draco,” I whined.
I finally found him, he was in the kitchen, a large basket on one arm offering his other hand to you.
“What are we doing?” I complained lightly as he pulled me through the grassy backyard, down a path we’d never taken together before and into the woods.
“Will you trust me?” He bantered back, throwing me a playful questioning look.
“Sure, sure,” I rolled my eyes and dodged a tree branch. “Trust me, he says,”
Draco stopped short and caught me before I went barreling down a muddy slope and into a small lake that resided in the neck of the woods. Sunlight filtered in golden and green through the trees lighting the water and scene softly.
“You do know how to swim don’t you?” He asked softly, grinning at me.
“I can swim circles around you, Malfoy,”
“Is that a challenge?”
“Isn’t it always?” I smirked.
I don’t remember laughing so much or having that much fun in an afternoon ever. Being with Draco seemed to make everything hurt less. Between slash wars or simply just hanging onto his shoulders as he chauffeured me around the crystal water it was a shining moment.
“You know it’s okay to like him, right?” Abby’s words echoed in my mind.
 All I could think in response was how could someone not?
Wrapped in a fluffy probably over-expensive towel on the lake beach, I watched Draco in the fading sun as he lounged, his eyes closed, smile reminiscent on his lips.
“It’s that time again isn’t it?” He asked softly.
I nodded, even though he couldn’t see. I’d have to go home soon, and our days were running out. A piece of me wished we had figured it out sooner. What it was, however, I didn’t know. But we would have had more time to figure it out.
Sighing I stood, casting a Drying charm and slipping his shirt over my head and my shorts back on, leaning over him.
“Well, are you gonna say goodbye?” I mused as he peeked an eye open.
“That’s my shirt,”
“Not anymore,” I grinned, and he sat up as I crouched down beside him.
The awkward energy the lingered between us changed to something a bit more nervous and potential. His eyes matched the crystal water behind us, though his hair slicked back with the water reminded me of our first few years at school, so I reached up and ruffled it out so that he looked like my Draco once more.
“I’ll see you tomorrow Dray,” Standing, a smile remained on my face as he squinted up at me before standing himself.
“Y/n,” He called as I started to ascend the small bank.
His hand caught mine and he pulled me back to him, steadying me with his hands on my waist. Raising an eyebrow, I looked up at him expectant. His hand came up and tucked a stray strand of hair out of my face, lingering on my cheek.
As he leaned down, my eyes slipped closed as I felt his lips on mine, the anxiety in my chest turning into butterflies fluttering beautifully inside me. I pressed up on my toes and wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him closer, our lips dancing trying to find the right rhythm. His hand cradled my face softly and his other held my waist steady.
I pulled away reluctantly, nuzzling my nose to his.
“Still not your type?” I breathed out.
“Not even close,” He chuckled, pressing a chaste kiss to my lips. “Go before you get in trouble,”
“I’ll see you tomorrow,” I promised meeting soft blue eyes.
“You’re awfully happy,” My mother commented offhand as I walked through the door. “Have a good time this afternoon?”
I nodded, smiling to myself and headed upstairs. After dinner there was a letter sitting on my desk as Herman, our owl, preened his feathers on my sill. The recognizable green seal offered me comfort as I sat on my bed and opened the letter.
~
Y/n,
I’m so sorry, but my parents came home early. I hoped that we would have more time, but it looks like our time is up. I’m sorry. Please don’t be upset.
Yours,
Draco
~
My heart fell at the letter as tears stung my eyes. I laid back on my mass of pillows and stared at the words, wishing them not to be true. No matter how much I stared, they didn’t change. I sprang from my bed and found parchment, writing him back immediately.
~
Draco,
You don’t need to apologize, but I do want to see you again. This can’t be it for us, for whatever this is. Please, I don’t want to lose this, and I don’t want to lose you either. You’re too important to me.
I won’t let this be goodbye,
Y/n
~
I sent the letter off and stared at the setting sun.
_______________________________
Draco reread your letter again, laying on his bed, not sure of how to make this not be goodbye. He didn’t want it to be goodbye either. He didn’t want to lose you.
The sad part happened to be that as soon as school started again, he would lose you. There he had to be a Slytherin and you were a Hufflepuff. He had a mask to keep on and you... you’d fight against him because of it. The thought made his stomach churn.
Couldn’t he have just one good thing without his family—his father—getting in the way?
There was a knock on the door and his mother entered his room. He sat up quickly and threw the letter under a pillow.
“How is she taking it?” His mother asked, a knowing look in her eyes. “Don’t try to lie to me,”
Draco sighed and hung his head.
“Not well,” He answered truthfully.
His mother came and sat beside him, rubbing his back softly.
“Part of loving someone is doing whatever it takes to keep them safe,” Her voice was gentle and despondent. “It’s a hard lesson, my dear, but you must keep her safe, and keep her from your father,”
Draco nodded mutely.
Taking his mother’s words to heart, he hid you from his father. He gave no sign that anything was out of the ordinary, nor that you were here at all. It was torture, seeing your ghost wander around the house or the yard, smiling and waving at him, knowing it wasn’t his anymore.
Draco tucked your book away, in the bottom corner of his school chest under an old spell book, your letters folded inside. And as much as he’d like to tuck you away the same way, he couldn’t. You were in his dreams that seemed too real. It left him awake late in the night, craving your touch, your kiss, your laughter, for you just to smile at him one more time.
Even though it seemed impossible, September arrived.
Chapter 3
End Note: So, hi, I hope you liked it. Anyway, I know i have a few different timelines up with Draco and different Readz, and that a lot of you are invested in my Gryffindor!Reader one, and that’s amazing and more than I deserve honestly. And I will continue ro write for it, but I need time to get all of my thoughts down and fleshed out. There are a lot of things that I want to do, and will do, but to get from A to B I need to find the right path. So there isn’t a posting schedule, though I do write daily as a practice. I know you all are excited to see what happens next, and so am I on some things, but I ask your patience and to not be upset when I post something different. I am human, I do have anxiety and depression and executive dysfunction as well as a life outside of writing unfortunately, so cut your girl some slack. I love all of you and what means the most to me is seeing reblogs and comments, not just like/kudos. I have extreme anxiety and those really help me calm down and feel like I’m wanted and doing the right thing. It’s stupid sure, but it’s me and I can accept and love that part of me too. I love you guys so much.
Noah, Part Six - Peter Maximoff x Reader
Part 1 // Part 2 // Part 3 // Part 4 // Part 5
...
When you were kids, you and Peter had lived under the same roof for almost five years.
And this was the longest he had ever gone without talking to you.
It was absolutely...
Unnatural.
You knew he’d interrogated Noah - something you wanted to be mad about, but just couldn’t be.
Peter deserved answers, and you felt guilty for not giving them to him. Especially after you'd seen the way he looked at you, the night you went out to dinner with Alex.
The night you explained everything.
But if Peter was allowed to grill your son...
Well, couldn't you?
“Hey, Noah,” you said, crouching down beside your son. “I know you’ve kinda... noticed, that things have been a little different.”
“What,” said Noah, in his soft, lispy voice. “What, that you and Daddy aren’t together anymore?”
Your eyes widened, and you released him, feeling as if you’d been burned.
“Daddy? Why’d you.. why would you call him that?”
He shrugged. It was the saddest thing you’d ever seen.
“I don’t know. He's around all the time and he teaches me things...”
“Well, so do I!”
“You protect me, Mommy. You protect me, an’... an’ you fight the bad people. It’s different.”
Noah sounded so sure. You wished you could be as certain as he was.
“What about Alex, huh?” you asked, smoothing his hair down. “Did you like him? He was cool, right?”
“Yeah. I guess.”
You huffed.
“Can I see Da-”
“Peter,” you corrected, forcefully.
“Can I go see Peter now? He’s s’posed to teach me today -- how to play tennis by myself.” “Don’t you want to spend the afternoon together, love? We could... we could read. You like that... don't you?”
Noah shrugged again.
“I guess so. I don’t really have to learn it, anyway. Peter says as long as he’s around, I’ll never have to play by myself.”
Your eyes welled up with tears.
“Well,” you managed, “I guess... I guess you’d better go.”
“Will you be okay?”
“Yeah, ‘Oah. I’ll be fine. I’ll just... stay in.”
“Sure you don’t want to come?” asked Noah.
You shook your head. He leaned in, whispering in your ear, as if he was going to tell you a secret.
“B’cause... Peter said he misses you.”
You’d be lying if you said you didn’t smile.
...
Okay...
So Peter Maximoff was kind of an incredible tennis instructor.
And surprisingly patient, in a way he never had been with you.
“Okay, buddy - that was great, but just a little to the left - oh,” he muttered, noticing you. “Hey, Y/N.”
You gave him a half-hearted wave.
“Peter,” said Noah, seriously, “You promised we could do some racing.”
“I know, buddy, but... it’s kinda windy today. It’s not the best conditions.”
Noah crossed his arms, pouting.
“Okay,” said Peter, giving in. “Alright... meet you back here?”
“Meet you,” agreed Noah, taking off.
Several moments passed. You couldn’t see either of them, but... suddenly, you felt a sharp burst of pain in Noah’s mind.
Within moments, Peter reappeared speeding out of the woods, carrying your son.
“The dummy broke his arm,” said Peter.
...
“He’ll be okay,” said Peter, attempting to comfort you. “S’ not so bad. One of the disadvantages of our powers are... you break a lot of stuff. Often limbs.”
You smiled, slightly.
“I know. He’s a tough kid. But I’m gonna wait up with him, anyway. As a kid, when I was sick, or hurt... I needed a lot of attention.”
“Oh, I remember,” Peter chuckled. “We thought you were dying.”
“Wow.”
“Well, you were kinda dramatic.”
“Oh, like you weren’t, at that age.”
He shrugged.
“That’s, uh... that’s fair. Listen... if you’re staying with Noah tonight... you want me to stay?”
“Why?” you asked, bluntly.
Peter shrugged, again.
“I don’t want you to be alone.”
Hesitantly, you allowed Peter to sit down on the couch, beside you, tucking your head into his shoulder.
When you woke in the morning, he was gone.
...
You knew it was time to go.
Xavier had taught Noah enough to control his powers, you reasoned. Sure, it wasn’t exactly what you'd hoped for - but he wasn't a full fledged X-Man yet, after all. He had time.
And, most importantly, you had fulfilled your duty as a mother.
You had ensured that Noah was safe.
Sure, you wouldn’t be able to pursue learning your own skills - but did that really matter?
A nagging voice in your head (probably Jean) told you that it did.
It also told you that you were running away from your problems, like you always had.
And also that you should brush your teeth.
“I don’t understand, Mom,” said Noah, reluctantly taking your hand. “Why do we have to go?”
“Because we’re done, love. We accomplished... what we came here to do. It’s time to go back to the real world. We can’t hide here forever.”
He nodded, slowly, and you hoped he understood.
“...Is Peter coming?”
You threw Noah’s suitcase in the trunk of your car with a thunk.
"No,” you said, quietly. “No, he’s... he’s not.”
Noah’s face went blank.
“What? Mom, we can’t-”
“That’s all, Noah. I’ve made up my mind.”
You helped him into his car-seat and climbed into the front, taking one last look at the Mansion before driving away.
Quietly, Noah began to hum something.
“That’s pretty,” you mused, softly. “What is it?”
“A song Peter taught me. He said it was your song.”
You swallowed.
Noah began to sing.
“If I could save time in a bottle, the first thing that I’d like to do... is to save every day, till eternity passes away... just to spend ‘em with you...”
Oh, no fair.
Peter was playing dirty.
“But there never seems to be enough time... to do the things you wanna do, once you find ‘em... I’ve looked around enough to know, that you’re the one I want to go through time with...”
Turn back, your brain was screaming. Turn back, turn back, turn back-
A car pulled up alongside you.
And it was Peter’s head that hung from the window, a megaphone pressed to his lips.
“Pull over!”
“What?!”
He almost ran you off the road.
“Pull over!”
"Mom?” asked Noah, in an eerily calm voice. “Are we gonna die?”
“No, love,” you said, decisively, pulling the car over. “No, I’m just gonna kill Peter, that’s all.”
“Y/N, I have to talk to you-”
“Are you crazy!” you yelled, slamming the door behind you. “Who drives like that? Are you-”
“Listen to me!” Peter shouted, jumping out of his car.
“I love you! And I don’t care that Noah’s not my son, okay? I’ll raise a hundred children, Y/N. With a hundred of your boyfriends, if it means I can be with you.”
Your eyes welled up with tears.
“...Can you put that down?”
“THIS EXPRESSES HOW LOUDLY I LOVE YOU!”
“It’s too loud,” you whispered, trying not to smile.
He knelt down, opening up a small, metal box.
“This is the Hope diamond,” Peter said, seriously, “And I stole it. But Xavier told me that it’s worth kind of a lot, and I don’t know if that means anything... but I thought it looked kinda cool, and I wanted you to have it-”
“Okay,” you agreed, quickly. “Okay, yes, yes, I will!”
You threw your arms around Peter’s neck and kissed him, deeply.
“I love you!” you shouted, feeling every emotion cross over you at once.
“I love you!” he shouted back, so happy he could barely breathe.
“And... I lied to you.”
“What?”
“Noah’s your son.”
Peter's express went blank.
“What? Why would you say-”
“I just needed you to want to marry me... because you wanted to marry me.”
He stumbled back, looking dazed - and for a moment, you were afraid you’d lost him.
“Get out!” Peter shouted, suddenly, absolutely screaming with happiness. “I’m a dad!”
“You’re a dad!”
This time, it was Peter that threw his arms around you, and you reciprocated.
...
Hey guys! Just a reminder, the story doesn’t end here.
I’m gonna continue to write in the ‘Noah’ timeline, but you can find the whole series under the title ‘All and Then Most Of You’ in my masterlist.
I plan to cover Peter and reader’s time at Xavier’s, and of course, their life as a family!
Many of these fics will be standalones that fit with the overall series
 If you have any ideas for the series, or adventures that Peter, Noah and Reader should go on, please send ‘em in!
Also, credit to the Office. As I mentioned in the first chapter, I borrowed some of the dialogue for this chapter from one of the last episodes.
MLQC Season 2 Chapter 21 (Kiro) Part 4 [Crazy Cube] & [Love and Wishes] Translation [CN]
***SPOILERS*** THIS POST CONTAINS HEAVY SPOILERS FOR CONTENT NOT YET RELEASED ON EN SERVER!!! READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!***
For previous translations of chapter 21: Part 1/ Part 2/ Part 3
[Crazy Cube]
While I stood on the sidewalk thinking about how to resume communication with Helios, a fast-moving figure in the distance caught my attention.
Helios’ body was covered in dust and his clothes were stained with blood but he was still very distinct.
Tumblr media
When he saw me, those blue pupils lit up instantly.
I chose the right one!
Suddenly, the cars in front of him turned sharply, accelerating in his direction.
Tumblr media
MC: Look out!!
Helios reacted quickly and escaped without harm.
But more and more cars seemed to be purposely targeting him, recklessly charging at him.
I couldn’t help but think of the sound of heavy objects on the ground I heard from earlier.
Does the culprit not only want to separate us but also want to kill him…?!
I tried to run towards him but as my feet touched the zebra crossing—
Tumblr media
Helios: Stay where you are!
He didn’t say anything more, only the wind and the harsh sound of tires screeching came from the other side of the road.
From a distance, those car taillights cut through the night like sharp blades, leaving bloodstains in their wake.
It was like spreading out a huge iron net, trapping Helios in it and trying to crush him fiercely.
Only Helios was faster. He steadily jumped onto the fast-moving car.
Tumblr media
He knelt on the front hood with one knee, picked up a buckle and smashed the windshield forcefully. His actions caused the car to freeze for a moment and then he raised a mocking smile.
MC: What happened?
Helios: These are driverless cars.
Helios: Since there’s no people, it’s better to solve.
He leapt sideways off the front of the car. His body moving at lightning speed—
Like a silver phantom, traveling freely within the high-speed machinery.
As he moved, all the cars kept crashing into each other.
Helios was like a flexible silver wire, guiding these unmanned cars together, causing continuous collisions.
Finally, Helios’ feet landed steadily in the middle of the crossroad and the anxiety in my heart was instantly lifted.
Countless car lights fell on him, shining brightly.
Tumblr media
MC: Helios!
Although I knew he thought of a plan, my heart couldn’t help but speed up.
Helios: I’m tired of all this running.
He lowered his center of gravity slightly and leaped up just when the cars on all sides were about to ram into him. He threw out a buckle attached to a rope and wrapped it tightly around the top of a traffic light.
Helios swung along and hovered in the air.
Numerous cars slammed into each other in an instant, completely blocking the crossroads.
However, before I could do anything, a sense of dizziness suddenly came over me. The space in front of me was different from the previous rotation and became distorted.
An inexplicable suction pulls me back.
Tumblr media
Helios: MC!
I fell back in a daze and only saw Helios running towards me nervously.
Tumblr media
MC: I…
I want to open my mouth and say something. My outstretched fingers went through Helios’ hand and my whole body passed through his body—
I saw his eyes widen in horror, slowly being swallowed by the black mist.
When I opened my eyes again, I found myself slumped against a fountain.
I gasped, feeling a little stupefied for a moment.
And sitting off to the side was a man who looked a little weak. A luminous Rubik’s Cube was suspended in his hand.
I carefully examined the man in front of me and when I recalled Helios’ previous conjectures about the different spaces, everything seemed to make sense.
Tumblr media
MC: You’re the one who’s been manipulating the space in this hotel, right? Who are you?
Hearing my question, the man suddenly raised his head. His eyes were full of madness and unwillingness. His teeth clenched together, making a horrible sound.
Branded on his calf was a glittering snake tattoo.
Sure enough, he’s from GR!
??: That man is such an eyesore.
The man’s eyes kept turning in his sockets, strange and terrifying. His fingers kept shaking uncontrollably as he turned the cube.
That Rubik’s Cube is the key.
I propped myself up and grabbed the anesthesia gun hidden in my pocket, waiting for the perfect time to attack.
But all of a sudden, a huge pain came from behind me and someone immediately bound my hands.
The intense pain pierced my nerves, making me break out in a cold sweat instantly. My entire body was trembling constantly.
The man gave me an indifferent glance and continued to spin the Rubik’s Cube in his hand.
??: As long as I want to, he will never escape from my grasp.
Hearing such ridiculous words, I scoffed coldly.
Tumblr media
MC: You underestimate him too much.
As I spoke, the Rubik’s Cube suspended between his hands began to pulsate slightly.
As if being pulled by something, it flew out from the man’s hands and rolled onto the ground.
He seemed to have never experienced such a thing before as he motionlessly watched the Rubik’s Cube on the ground.
The vibrations are getting bigger and bigger. It looked like something huge was coming out from it, pushing each square continuously outward with a strong thrust.
The blue light from the square is also flashing irregularly and the gap between the squares is becoming even bigger—
??: Wa-wait…!!
As the man wailed, the entire Rubik’s Cube exploded with a dazzling light.
Individual cubes fell one by one and scattered in different corners of the garden.
A piece of the shattered cube fell in front of me and then a rush of wind passed over my head, knocking the person who was originally behind me aside.
I was gently turned around and was trapped in a sweaty embrace.
The obsidian ring shone dimly on the hand covering my arm.
Tumblr media
Helios: I’m late.
[Love and Wishes]
Tumblr media
Helios: This won’t do.
MC: It’s fine.
I took Helios by the hand and walked into the depths of the garden. His brows furrowed, staring at my right hand.
Tumblr media
Helios: This kind of simple treatment…
Tumblr media
MC: This simple treatment is enough! I promise you that I’ll go to the hospital after the everything is over!
After the Rubik’s Cube exploded, the helpless man who controlled it was dealt with. Helios just gave an annoying look and didn’t pay much attention to him.
And those people who were taken into different dimensions appeared one after another in the building of this garden. Everyone was at a loss as to what happened.
MC: I suspect that the old man must still be somewhere in this garden.
MC: The person controlling the Rubik’s Cube certainly didn’t expect that we would break free. Therefore, he definitely can’t be too far.
Tumblr media
MC: So we can’t waste any time!
Seeing my reasoning, Helios smiled without anger.
Tumblr media
Helios: I didn’t know you still had this side of you.
Tumblr media
MC: Me neither.
I shook my head at him and searched the entire garden.
Finally, the old man was found in the attic of a small two-story building.
The old man was a little nervous upon seeing us. He cowered and raised his head.
MC: Grandpa, don’t worry. We’re good people!
Not knowing what to say, I subconsciously said something silly. Sure enough, a snicker came from behind me.
But when I turned my head to look, Helios had changed back to a calm face.
Tumblr media
Helios: Leave here first and explain later.
I went to a nearby hospital to quickly treated my arm and returned with Helios to one of his secret bases.
Tumblr media
The old man quivered in the corner, looking out the window blankly, with hopelessness in his eyes.
MC: Grandpa, can you tell us what happened?
The old man was still looking out the window, his mouth slightly opened.
Old Man: I’m…not an old man.
I blinked and looked at Helios who was sitting to the side.
Helios: What are you?
Old Man: My name is Shen Dong….22 years old this year.
He said this sentence lightly was instantly submerged by the wind howling outside the window.
MC: …..?
Tumblr media
MC: 22 years old??
I stared wide-eyed in shock, looking at the thin and frail old man in front of me….thinking for a while that I must have misheard him.
Shen Dong lifted his heavy eyelids laboriously. They were filled with hatred except he didn’t have any strength, sitting there like a dead tree.
Shen Dong: I’m an Evolver…
Shen Dong: I can remove a person’s Evol and replace it with an already existing Evol in my body. Then, it becomes my own.
MC: ….So it’s equivalent to you just taking away other people’s abilities? Then the ability that you lost disappears?
Shen Dong: Yes.
I wondered suspiciously. So GR did this just to make people who have Evol lose it?
Shen Dong ignored my bewildered gaze and continued talking to no one in particular.
Maybe he has been silent for so long, it didn’t matter who it was at this moment. It didn’t matter how it will impact or what assistance it will provide in the future, he just wanted to get it all off his chest.
Shen Dong: As to why I became like this…
He looked at his raised hand sarcastically, with no light remaining in his eyes.
Tumblr media
Helios: It’s related to using Evol.
Helios said this nonchalantly without any emotion on his face.
Shen Dong nodded.
Shen Dong: I don’t know how but when I use Evol, my body seems to get older.
Shen Dong: And then age faster and faster….faster and faster….
Shen Dong: In the end, I became what I am now.
Helios: If that’s the case, why do use your abilities?
Shen Dong: Do you think I want to!!
He yelled. His voice filled the room instantly.
Shen Dong: …They have….my lover.
Shen Dong: If I don’t listen to them…they will kill her.
Helios: They captured her?
Shen Dong: No…they only give me pictures of her every day.
Shen Dong: She doesn’t even know about all of this…
Shen Dong: She’s been waiting for me to come back.
He looked out the window and didn’t even have much strength to sit up straighter.
In that dark room, he sits there every day, taking other’s Evol over and over again.
Watching himself grow old little by little.
I clenched my hands subconsciously and looked at Shen Dong unbearably.
Tumblr media
MC: Sorry, I still have to ask something about GR but if you don’t want to say it, then you don’t have to answer me.
MC: Do you know about the Wish Club…?
Shen Dong narrowed his eyes and nodded slowly.
Shen Dong: Those people are different from the ones at the Wish Hotel. They were forced to have their Evol extracted from them.
Shen Dong: As a price of debt.
As soon as he said this, Helios brought a key over.
His whole body was covered with a heavy layer of frost and his eyes were cold.
Tumblr media
Helios: This is the room key. You look after him here.
Helios: I’m going to deal with some things. I’ll be back soon.
I looked at Helios deeply, took the key, and watched him walk out the door with heavy steps.
Shen Dong seemed very tired and lifted his eyelids.
Thinking of his experience during this time, I asked softly.
MC: You rest here first, okay?
His eyes trembled suddenly, as if thinking of something. He raised his head and looked at me.
Shen Dong: Looking at your check-in information, you’re an Evolver that deals with memory?
MC: Yeah, what about it?
Shen Dong: Nothing…
He avoids my eyes unnaturally. Considering the state of his body, I have the upper hand.
MC: Are you okay? If you’re uncomfortable, you can tell me.
Shen Dong shifted his eyes back. They were full of pain and suffering.
Shen Dong: …Do you think I can go back to how I was?
His question left me a little speechless for a while. I pressed my lips together and looked at his wrinkled face.
Tumblr media
MC: I don’t know.
MC: But I think…even if there is only a glimmer of hope, you can’t give up.
MC: If you press on, maybe one day in the future, you can get back your original body!
Shen Dong: Maybe?
He smiled softly. His gaze seemed to pass through the eaves, over the endless streets and crowds, and land in a very distant place.
Shen Dong: Can I…hold your hand?
Shen Dong: It’s been too long….since I’ve touched anyone in a normal way.
I was stunned for a moment. Seeing him raise his hand slowly, I stretched out both hands without thinking.
I didn’t say anything.
I knew that for him, all words were powerless.
I only hope I can give him more strength.
Shen Dong: …I’m so sorry.
MC: Huh?
In the next second, the surroundings began to spin. My vision became blurred and I felt the power slowly fading from my body.
Shen Dong: I’m really sorry….
His apologies kept ringing in my ears. My vision was gradually swallowed by darkness and only his last cry was heard before I lost consciousness.
Shen Dong: I don’t have much time…
I don’t know how long time has passed. There seemed to be someone faintly shaking my body.
??: MC!
An urgent voice came to my ears, calling my name again and again.
I reluctantly opened my heavy eyelids. Things were in and out of focus but I seemed to see a blue sea.
Tumblr media
I struggled to raise my hand and gently brushed away the messy silver hair that covered my eyes.
MC: Sorry….I seemed to have messed things up.
Helios: It’s not your fault.
Helios: Are you all right?
I nodded, trying to sit up, but realized that I was really weak and there felt like a force in my body that had disappeared.
I looked around and saw no sign of Shen Dong.
Tumblr media
Helios: He’s not here anymore.
MC: That’s right…just now he asked me to hold his hand and then I lost consciousness.
I looked at Helios in a daze and hesitated to say what I was thinking.
MC: …My Evol seems to have disappeared.
When Helios heard this, his face fell.
Helios: Try to use your abilities on me.
I slowly raised my hand and snapped my fingers at him.
There was no reaction. No matter how hard I tried, it was useless.
Helios immediately took out the microcomputer, tapping a code quickly with his fingers.
After a while, the window on the screen suddenly zoomed in. An old man got out of a car and walked towards a pathway.
MC: Where is he going?
On the screen, Shen Dong stumbled along. His strength no longer enough to make him go any further.
Exhausted from walking, he leaned on the tree trunk beside him panting. His whole body shook, then he set off again.
Helios’ eyes narrowed slightly.
Helios: He’s going back.
Tumblr media
When we hurried over, Shen Dong and a strange girl were sitting on a bench among the flowers.
Countless flowers and branches gently made noises in the wind. The world is beautiful and quiet.
Shen Dong’s joyful smile and the girl with tears on her face formed a sharp contrast.
Girl: Seeing you now, I always feel like I’ve been waiting for you for a long, long time.
Girl: It seems like I’ve also become an old woman myself.
The girl didn’t seem to want to cry anymore. She only raised a smile for half a second and then immediately wiped away the tears she couldn’t help but shed.
Girl: Sorry...what should I do?
The girl looked like she finally collapsed. She gripped her skirt tightly to prevent herself from crying.
Shen Dong’s fingers gently touched her face as if he was touching the most unique treasure in the world.
Shen Dong: I came to tell you that I did not forget the agreement with you.
Shen Dong: I’ve come back.
He gently wiped the girl’s tears and kissed her nose.
Shen Dong: However, those other agreements may be impossible.
Shen Dong: Although we agreed we won’t miss every winter in our future lives, but it seems it will be somewhat difficult.
Girl: What do you mean….
Shen Dong: Just treat it as…an early end to an ordinary winter.
After speaking, the old man raised his hand and snapped his fingers in front of her.
For my dear @frenemies-to-lovers , who is my Knife Wife!! This did turn out on the long side, but I hope you like it!
It’s a Human Thing
Cardan was absolutely, completely, and totally in love with the girl in front of him. He was also not able to focus on how amazing she was because of how odd his human pants felt against his skin. Jeans, Jude had said, thrusting them into his arms. They, she had told him, were going to buy presents. And now they were in this store, this store that was bigger than the High King’s Palace in Elfhame, where everything was bright red. Jude had a list clutched in one hand and was pushing a shopping cart, as she had called it.
“Okay,” She said, turning the cart down an aisle. “We both need to think of something for Taryn. I am going to get her a new scarf. A human scarf.” She turned to me. “You need to get her something, too.”
Cardan frowned, staring at what they were walking past. He pulled one off the shelf and popped off the lid. It was a candle.
 “It’s a scented candle.” He looked up at Jude. She was leaning on the cart and smiling slightly. “Sniff it.”
He raised an eyebrow at her, then sniffed the candle lightly. It smelled like vanilla. Cardan hummed and looked at the other candles on the shelf. He pulled another one off and smelled it. It’s light, jasmine. He held it out to Jude.
“Would Taryn like this?” She smelled it and nodded. He tossed it in the cart and they kept shopping.
This was going to be Jude and Taryn’s first Christmas since they were stolen. In Elfhame, they celebrated Solstice. They celebrated it much like they celebrated everything else, with drink and dancing until dawn. Cardan had been assured that they still had drinking and dancing for Christmas, but that there were a few important differences.
Vivienne and Heather were hosting a party Christmas Eve and Christmas day, and Jude had invited the original Court of Shadows to come. Somehow, three humans and six fae were going to fit into Heather’s incredibly small apartment. When Cardan had voiced his worry, Jude had given him a look.
Cardan received a lot of looks from Jude. There was a ‘you are being very annoying’ look, a ‘you need to stop drinking now’ look, a ‘you are making me very turned on in the middle of this important meeting’ look. Cardan felt he gained a new look at least once a week. This was a new one. He was pretty sure it meant ‘if you ruin this for me I will cut off your head with Nightfell’. So he had simply assured her they would easily find the space and changed the subject.
“Ok!” Jude said, tossing a soft-looking midnight blue scarf into the cart. “Ready to go? We still need to wrap them.”
“Explain the hat.”
“It’s a human thing.” Cardan raised his eyebrows, looking skeptical. Jude sighed and plunked the red-and-white hat down on his head. “There’s this story they tell kids, I don’t know where it came from, but this fat old man  goes around the world Christmas night and delivers presents to all the kids who have been nice, and coal to all the kids who have been naughty.”
“Is he a fae?” Jude made a face.
“Not that we know of.”
“But he is magic?”
“Yep.”
Cardan tilted his head, soft black hair falling over one eye. Jude had her hair pulled back in a thick knot, and Cardan found himself wishing he could run his fingers through it.
Decorating was more fun than Cardan had thought it would be. There was a tree - not real, Vivienne had said with a scoff. Real ones were messy, - and several garlands of holly strung over windows and doors. Heather had pulled out several boxes of decorations from somewhere. Jude had held the plastic and glass ornaments in her hands every time before she hung them up, seemingly trying to comprehend their existence. Cardan was helping, although he wasn’t entirely sure he was doing it right. There didn’t seem to be much of a pattern, it was more of ‘hang things up where you want’.
Oak was also helping, though he was doing more talking than hanging. Cardan found himself fascinated by tales of mortal school; hearing a fae child talk about lunch lines and playing games felt like the whole world was slightly tilted.
“Oh, and in art class we made Christmas decorations! We cut out snowflakes and glued them to blank CDs and decorated them with Sharpies and gems. I brought mine home.”
Oak ran to the door and dug around in his backpack, pulling out the ornament. It was slightly misshapen, with very bright red and green scribbles on it. Cardan raised a brow, but Jude grabbed it and hung it up right in the front.
“I hope you aren’t ruining the tree,” Vivienne called from the kitchen. Cardan examined the tree. It had several empty spots and looked as though they had simply thrown the boxes at it.
“No,” He called back, and Oak snickered. Vivienne came in balancing a tray of mugs and began passing them out. It was hot chocolate with white floating things in it.
“What are these?” He asked. Heather, having followed Vivienne in, gasped.
 “You’ve never had marshmallows?” She looked horrified, and distantly Cardan wondered if she was as horrified as him on the first night Jude had kissed him. He doubted it. Oak jumped up and down, sloshing his hot chocolate down his arms.
“They’re amazing! They’re fluffy and light and sweet and you have to try one.”
Cardan hesitantly took a sip, catching a marshmallow as he did it. After a moment of thoughtful chewing, he nodded.
“I believe I do enjoy marshmallows,” He said, trying to get another one with his next sip. Oak giggled.
When Cardan looked up, he noticed Jude giving him another look. He had seen this look before. ‘You are incredibly attractive right now and I am struggling not to throw myself at you with wild abandon’ was the general meaning of it. Cardan was not one to leave and let lie, so he smirked at her, showing just a flash of teeth. Her chin jutted out, challenge ripping through her eyes.
Cardan went for another sip, but someone knocked on the door. Vivienne went to get it, but when she opened the door she inhaled sharply.
“It’s a fae,” She said, voice quiet. Jude and Cardan looked at each other and walked over. It was indeed a small fae, short and furry with distressingly long teeth.
“My King,” The creature gasped, bowing. “My Queen.”
“Yes, what is it?” Cardan was annoyed. He had hoped not to be called upon, just for tonight and tomorrow.
“Your pardon, Majesties. I was told to bring this to you.” The fae held out a cream envelope with a shaking hand. The thick red seal on the back had already been broken, but Cardan could see it was Madoc’s.
Next to him, Jude drew in a sharp breath. Cardan unfolded the letter and scanned the few short lines of text. Wordlessly, he passed it to Jude. She gave him a quick look and read the letter. Cardan was carefully still, shoulders tight. Her head jerked up to look up at him.
To Their Majesties,
I will arrive at sundown. I am excited to see the girls and Oak. I am bringing presents.
“He’s coming?” Jude stared, wide-eyed, at Vivienne. Vivienne was leaning against the counter, hands wrapped around a mug of coffee. Her own cat eyes went huge, and she pushed off the counter.
“He isn’t supposed to be.” Vivienne set her mug down and put her hands on her hips. “He certainly isn’t coming into this apartment.”
Next to her, Taryn pursed her lips and shifted. She fixed her attention on her own cup of coffee and took a sip.
“Taryn?” Cardan cocked his head slightly. “How do you feel about Madoc coming over?” She mumbled something into her coffee, not looking at any of them. Jude spun to her, eyes narrowed.
“What was that?” Taryn lowered her cup and reached a hand up to push her hair over her shoulder. She still wasn’t looking at them.
“I may have invited him.”
“What?” Vivienne and Jude spoke at once.
“Well, he raised us! This is his first Christmas and he’s in the mortal world and we haven’t payed him any heed and I wanted to be nice.” Jude stared at her, horrified. “It’s not like he can ruin the whole day. Even he doesn’t have that much power.”
“He almost took over all of Elfhame.” Jude grabbed Taryn’s shoulders, shaking her a little. “He ruined our childhoods and almost ruined both Cardan and I’s reign! Why would you think he can’t ruin Christmas?!”
Taryn looked taken aback. Cardan crossed his arms. She really should have thought this through.
“I thought-” Taryn bit her lip. “Maybe Oak would want to see him.” Everyone craned their necks to see into the living room where Oak was furiously typing on a laptop. Jude was the first to snap out of it.
“Maybe, but if they miss each other a half-hour visit in the park does just fine.” There was something in Jude’s voice, and Cardan turned to look at her. There was anger and annoyance, but Cardan could see in the tightness of her mouth eyes that she was worried, as well. Worried and scared and hurt.
Taryn kept stammering, but Cardan stopped paying her any attention. He watched Jude, watched the annoyance and anger crest, watched her eyes turn stormy. She turned and left in the middle of Taryn’s pleading to Vivienne, who was just watching with narrowed eyes. Taryn stared after Jude. Cardan followed, nodding slightly to Vivienne as he went.
Jude stormed to her bedroom and stood by the small window. Cardan shut the door quietly behind them and perched on the bed. He remained silent, waiting for her to speak. She broke after only a few short moments.
“I don’t want him here.” Her breath was coming short and fast as she crossed her arms. “I don’t care if it’s childish. This is my first Christmas since I was six, our first break since Eldred stepped down, the first time we are together and not being attacked, not fighting, not having to plan and plot and handle Orlagh or Nicasia or Locke. I wanted a time where I could be with Vivienne and not be mad at Taryn and see Oak smile.”
She broke off, tilting her head back slightly. When she spoke again, it was softer than before. “He has been a presence in my life forever. Even before I knew it, my life was ruled by him. I just wanted this nice human holiday without him.”
Her voice rose, and she lashed out a hand and punched the wall. The plaster cracked ever so slightly, and Jude grunted softly. Cardan rose and skirted the bed, going to stand by her. He took her hand gently. Her knuckles were red, and one of them had split open. He glanced up at her face.
To say she was angry was to say the sea around Elfhame was wet. True, as he couldn’t lie, but vastly underplaying. Cardan had never wished more that he could lie, just so he could hold her and tell her Madoc wouldn’t ruin anything. But Madoc was in the habit of ruining things. Jude sniffled. Cardan looked at her in surprise.
“I’m not going to cry,” She said sullenly. “Unless it’s out of anger.”
Cardan hummed and pulled her close. He tucked her head under his chin and rubbed her arms. Cardan had found out that when Jude was upset, physical touch grounded her. Otherwise, she got in her head and spiraled into anger. Cardan, having the opportunity to touch someone he loved for the first time in his life, was all too willing to comply.
“I can’t stay here,” Jude whispered. “Not with him, not in the same apartment. I don’t want to fight, and I know he’ll ruin it.” She sighed, shoulders hunching under his grip. “I suppose we can go back to Elfhame.” She didn’t sound thrilled. Cardan wished he could just snap his fingers and disappear Madoc.
“If we go back to Eflhame,” Cardan said, mumbling into Jude’s hair. “We could spend the night in my rooms. We need not deal with anyone else.” She pulled back and wrenched her head towards the window.
“I don’t have a choice. I simply cannot be in the same apartment as him.” Cardan straightened. Spending Christmas alone was not the worst idea, but it was for Jude. Cardan wondered…
“Come back to Elfhame, and I will try to distract you.” Jude flashed him a smile.
“You always do such a good job.”
Jude opened the carved door. Hair dripping down her back from her bath, she slipped into a blood-red doublet and thick green tights. She sighed, relishing the feeling of the velvet and wool against her skin. It felt like home.
She squeezed out her hair, then braided it back. Cardan had said he had to do something, then left her to bathe. The bath hadn’t been pleasant, all her anger and fury and worry over Madoc coming out in great heaving gasps. When she had dragged herself out, she had sworn not to think about him for the remainder of the night or for Christmas tomorrow.
Someone knocked on her door, and she rushed to open it. She blinked in surprise. It was Fand, out of her usual armour and in a black doublet. Fand bowed.
“Your Majesty. The King asked me to find you.”
Jude reached back inside the door and found her boots, the comfortable worn leather supple beneath her hands as she laced them up. Then she followed Fand, slightly confused. Fand did not lead her to the throne room, instead leading her to a small dining room attached to Cardan’s rooms.
When Fand nodded at her and opened the doors, Jude was taken aback. Inside, someone had put up a large pine tree, and it was covered in bright berries and soft glittering cloths. The whole room seemed to shimmer, and wreaths were flung over every chair and onto the mantlepiece. But what was more shocking were the fae inside.
Surrounding the table were Cardan, The Bomb, The Roach, The Ghost, and Grima Mog, all dressed in fineries. Fand slunk by her and joined them, cerulean skin standing out against the soft browns and greens. The Roach even had on a velvet Santa hat, though it looked odd on him.
Cardan stepped forward, holding two spun glass cups of wine. He handed one to her, taking a sip of the other. Jude shut her mouth, which had fallen open slightly, and gave him a grin.
“Merry Christmas,” He said, the words sounding odd in his mouth. Jude laughed, taking Cardan’s goblet and setting both of theirs aside. She flung herself at him, hugging him tightly enough he gasped for breath. The Bomb cheered loudly as Jude kissed him. She reveled in the softness of his mouth. He put his mouth to her ear and breathed. “I love you with all of my shabby, worm-eaten, and scabrous heart.”
“I love you, too,” She whispered back, laughing again and clutching him tighter.
Merry Christmas!!!
Thank you, @jurdannet and @jurdannetrevels, for hosting this!
