Guy is a daydreamer.
Ask anyone who knows him, from his grade school teachers to his apartment neighbors, and they can attest that Guy never seems to run out of topics to talk about. Never a dull moment, much less a dull idea to mull over when he’s around.
In fact, his imagination is something he prides himself in. After all, as an aspiring writer, it’s what gives the very soul of all of the stories he wants to share with the world—whether it’s the exciting plot of a potential novel he has been writing (and rewriting) all night throughout the week or an epic fantasy he was able to make up on the top of his head and narrate to the kids by the playground of the middle-school he makes deliveries to.
Guy is a daydreamer.
And it might be the very trait that would be the root of his current predicament.
Slow hands, languid movements
“Does this feel good, Honey?”
Heavy breaths, sharp gasps
“You can get r-rougher, babe. I can take it…”
Warm bodies, warmer lips
“M-mhm, Guy…”
Fuck. Their lips…
“Guy?”
Fuck.
“Guy!”
Fuck.
“Hello? Earth to Guy? You with us, buddy?”
Shit. Fuck. Fucking shit.
“Wh-wha-what? H-hi! Yeah, of course I am. I am here. On the earth. Present. With you guys,” Guy cleared his throat awkwardly after seeing the unconvinced, deadpan looks on his co-workers' faces. Rosa specifically had her brow raised in suspicion to which Guy responded with a nervous smile. “Uh, what’s up?”
“What’s up,” The woman repeated, “Is your constant staring into space! You almost burned the dough if it weren’t for me keeping an eye on you! I’m used to your head in another world but you’ve barely said a word for the past few hours!” The others nodded in agreement.
Rosa's hard eyes softened, “Is everything okay with you? Something botherin’ you or what?”
Right. Dough. Pizza. He’s making pizza. He’s kneading dough. The flour clinging to his hands suddenly felt heavier, the scent of basil overwhelmed his nose and the chattering of the customers increased in volume but that meant that everything was starting to make sense. He took in his surroundings, which were quickly clearing up for him, to finally decipher that he was still in Max’s, in the kitchen and it was still his shift.
Definitely not with his recent roommate-to-lover and definitely not in their dimmed bedroom, straddling them on their bed with a delightfully sinful expression painted on their face as his shaky hands slowly creep up between their—
Oh my god.
The very thought of them already leaves Guy's legs feeling like jelly. These daydreams had been a problem for him for quite some time. It wasn't like it was a crime to get all hot and bothered over his partner! Yet, lately, an unexplainable sense of shame builds inside him whenever his mind wanders to more…impure scenarios with them.
Because despite what anyone might think of him and how he jokes about it, he's a little scared of being intimate with someone—no—with Honey.
Oh fuck, someone asked him a question.
“Uh, yeah, I’m fine. Just a lil’ tired, I guess.”
And he isn’t lying, really. The fatigue of making pizzas and serving tables was no joke and, with all the very interesting fantasies occupying his mind, his shift slightly just got more difficult to get through than what he was used to. (Thank god he's not on delivery duty right now. He's self-aware enough to know he would get into an accident with his current situation)
His co-workers still looked suspicious but accepted his answer nonetheless, hurriedly going back to their tasks to avoid the wrath of their manager. The man let out a sigh of relief as he resumed his own tasks for the day.
As his grueling shift came closer to an end, he was more than ready to take the apron off and get the absolute fuck out of that kitchen.
Guy might actually be the first person in all of Dahlia to dread coming home to an apartment that he shared alongside his (literal!) dream partner who was waiting for him after a long, tiring day at work.
Honey, who was all bundled up in a blanket on the couch, paused the show playing on the T.V. to face their boyfriend and properly greet him, “Hey, welcome home. How’s work?”
“It was shit. Did you eat already?”
He saw them already heading their way to their small kitchen, reaching for something in the refrigerator. “Yeah, I left some for you in the fridge. We can heat it up if you want?”
“Nah, it’s okay. I ate back at the restaurant. What are you watchin’?” But before he could get a reply, Guy’s body stiffened when he felt a light shock from where Honey had suddenly touched his upper arm.
Light touches.
Heavy panting.
Hot air.
“Oh, f-fuck, Guy. Do that again, hon. Please. Don’t stop, don’t—”
“ —think I didn’t hear you, mister! What do you mean your day was shit?” If Honey had noticed their boyfriend flinching at the mere tap on his shoulder, they didn’t comment on it.
“U-uhm,” He coughed and shrugged lamely to hide his reaction. “Just the usual stuff.” The man put down all his stuff on the nearby coffee table. “C-can I just lay on your chest for a while? If it’s okay with you.”
Despite Honey’s aloofness, they can recognize when their partner is truly in need (And who could say no when their boyfriend’s usual chaotic self sounds so adorable being shy?) The gentleness in their gaze was enough to calm Guy’s frazzled mind, even just for a bit, before sitting on the sofa and patting on the empty spot beside them, albeit looking quite unsure on how to comfort him.
“C’mere. Do…do you wanna talk about it?"
Guy simply shakes his head before letting himself crash onto the couch and into his beloved's (with the second "e" pronounced!) welcoming arms—or, at least, what welcoming might look on Honey. He can feel the rigidness of their posture, remembering how awkward they can be with physical touch, yet here they are, going out of their comfort zone just to make sure he feels better.
It makes him guiltier to know why he was acting like this in the first place.
“Can you…talk about your day instead, Honey?”
They rolled their eyes with a fond smile, “Fine, but don’t think I’m letting go of it that easily, m’kay?”
As Honey recounts the events of their day (which honestly isn't much), their stiff demeanor eventually relaxed to the point where they were more comfortable with absentmindedly giving affection, unaware that they’d been playing with Guy's hair for the past few minutes. The gentle massages on his scalp were a much-needed distraction for his mind.
That is until he felt a sharp tug from Honey in an attempt to untangle their fingers between his messy locks.
Fistfuls of hair.
Skin on skin.
Arched backs.
"Fuck, keep doin’ that, Honey. Oh–”
“—shit! Sorry about that. Did I pull too hard?” Honey was already moving their fingers away from his head before Guy quickly (a little too quickly) halted the movement. Guy guided Honey’s hand back to its original place on his head, squeezing ever so slightly.
“No! It's okay, Honey. Just…keep it there.”
Honey gives him a knowing smirk, “You are acting so weird, you know that?”
“Just indulge in a poor man’s wishes, will you?” Guy dramatically lamented, really wanting to avoid the conversation and go back to relaxing and getting some rest.
“Whatever you say, man,” They replied, resuming from where they left off with their story.
As much as Guy would love to listen, his focus started wandering elsewhere as his mind drifted to sleep.
The ticks of the clock, the scent of Honey’s body wash, the number of their eyelashes.
The texture of Honey's soft blanket.
Messy sheets.
Desperate thrusts.
Sweat dripping.
"Oh god, G-Guy, I think–I think I'm g-gonna–"
"--come?"
"H-huh?" Guy hadn't realized how hard he was gripping the throw pillow on his lap. At this point, he’s going to expose himself one way or another if he keeps being out of it. He tried his best to compose himself, hiding his distress behind a laugh. "S-sorry, Honey. Could you repeat that?"
Honey did a face, softly chuckling for a bit, before repeating their question. "I said; 'I'm gonna go buy a gift for Ollie’s birthday tomorrow morning, do you wanna come? It’s your day off tomorrow, right?”
“Uh, y-yeah. Of course. I’d love to, Honey!”
Honey stared for what felt like forever before making a face again, this time, looking like they had just been enlightened by something and letting out a snort that was so adorable, Guy almost forgot why he was avoiding their gaze.
"Pfft– Guy, you—" Honey said through their stifled giggles (that was a tell-tale sign of the belly laughs they only share with him and no one else). They never got to finish the sentence, trying but, ultimately interrupting themselves with their own laughter.
He smiled, happy to see them show this much emotion towards him when to others they tend to be more closed off (albeit, a little confused about what caused it so suddenly). “I'm what, Honey? Hey! I'm what? Do I have something on my face?”
“You’re—pfft!”
Familiar playful slaps targeted his thighs with a faint sting he’s too far used to. He notices that their smile had their teeth showing, too busy laughing to cover it with their hand like they often do.
Guy’s crumbling.
He knew his desires were seeping through the cracks and it took all of his willpower to resist tackling them then and there—to feel every inch of their body and give them every last bit of pleasure they rightfully deserved. But he can't. He shouldn't.
So, he opts for a kiss on the cheek instead.
Something sweet enough to mask how hard his mind was reeling with overly aggressive affection. As he continued with his fleeting, featherlight attacks on Honey's face, his lips felt the smile that their mouth formed (accompanied by an out-of-breath “Guy, that tickles!”) and he found that pulling away was more difficult than he thought.
After a while of innocent pecks and bubbling snorts, Honey raised a hand to wipe a tear from their eye. They were looking directly at him now, eyes soft with their lips slightly parted and panting from laughing too hard.
Lips. Their lips.
“Guy, you good?”
A man can only have so much self-control before he breaks.
The next few moments felt like a blur. A hitched breath, a tightened grip. His lips hungrily meet theirs and the moan he immediately lets out was almost pathetic. But he couldn’t give a damn about anything other than the pleasurable weight grinding down on his crotch.
They felt so good. Everything felt so fucking good. The spinning in his mind paired with the aching throb of his cock were all too much to handle that he can’t even tell if this was real or if it was the same fantasies that had been torturing him all day.
No. It’s real. It’s all real.
Despite the haze in his surroundings—despite all the noise—the only thing occupying Guy’s thoughts were the whimpers coming out of Honey that were better than anything he could have ever dreamed of.
“Fuck,” He swore under his breath, the friction against his growing bulge breaking down any sense of sanity he had left. Guy squeezed their thigh a little harsher than intended, making Honey loudly moan out in surprise.
He took the opportunity to slip his tongue into their mouth, lapping up all the sounds he managed to coax out of them. Honey’s hands found their way to his hair, tugging like last time with more intent than before and it dragged out a needy whine from his throat muffled between their lips.
Unfortunately, the breathlessness he was experiencing isn't the same type he feels when he's around Honey and he remembered that humans do, in fact, need oxygen in their system. He pulled away from them for a quick breath, taking pleasure in how they desperately chased his lips with a soft whine, before immediately aiming at their jaw, sucking, licking, and biting skin as it trails down on their neck.
Honey is quick to respond, their fingers ghosting the hem of his work uniform before sliding them up, keeping his squirming body steady by grabbing his waist with one hand as the other roams to his chest, the shirt riding up with it and they feel his heartbeat speed up against his ribcage.
The sensation leaves Guy lightheaded. He swore he could see stars, especially after their warm palms stroked past a particular spot he didn’t even know he was sensitive to. The action had him writhing under the weight on his lap and Honey’s sudden thrust against his clothed dick brought out a stuttered gasp from him with his hips bucking up involuntarily.
“Shit, baby,” Honey whispered, the strain in their voice evident as they grind down harder just to hear Guy’s wanton moans one more time. “So fucking needy.”
Hot breaths.
Bare skin.
Intoxicating scents.
This felt like Deja vu.
Guy had seen this before. He dreamt of it so much that it felt like second nature for his body. During nights when his partner hadn’t been home yet and he was feeling oh so, lonely—so desperate. Nights when his imagination had gone truly wild, the same scenario that he had been replaying over and over again. The one where he would have them in a panting mess.
He vividly remembers what goes next. The movement is practiced—etched into his memory. Every bone, every nerve in his system practically has it memorized in its core.
He pins them on the arm of their sofa, the air is hot and heavy. One final passionate kiss, one final slip of his tongue, one final grind between their legs, and his hands would reach down, down where they needed him the most to—
“A-ah, Guy, w-wait!”
And just like that, Guy’s mind snaps back to reality.
“Fuck, I’m so sorry.”
“I-it’s okay.”
“No, no, I’m really sorry. I–” He hurries to back away, pushing off his body and sitting upright with an arm’s distance away from an equally disheveled Honey. Fuck, they looked so pretty with their lips swollen like that. His eyes guiltily avoided the abundance of purple marks he wasn't even aware he left on their neck. Shit, focus!  “I don’t know what came over me. I’m–”
“Guy, it’s okay, I like it!” Honey cuts him off, not allowing their boyfriend to give himself to blame for something that didn’t even need his apologies. “I like it a lot. I was just…worried. Ever since you came home you were acting kind of off and I don’t want you to go through with this when I feel like something’s bothering you.”
Honey reaches out to him with concerned eyes, which should probably be an indicator for Guy of how odd he has been acting as of late. Their fingers find his knuckles, gently tracing circles on them as they patiently wait for his response.
Guy never knew his heart could beat faster, given how…intimate their latest activities were, but here he is, out of breath and falling in love all over again.
“I-I know this is kinda weird and I’m being really weird and everything is weird right now but I…uhm. Well, I guess you were right about me being all bark but no bite after all, eh?” He cringes at the way his voice cracked at the end and clears his throat for the nth time today.
“Okay, what I’m trying to get to is that…I've…been thinking about you…in a not-so-wholesome way for a while now. And I know, I know, this isn't new. I've flirted with you before and you already said you were okay with it, even with the raunchier ones but I'm just…"
Guy nervously looks away to the side, his eyes downcast to avoid Honey's curious stare. "This feels like a whole new thing now that we’re actually together and it really means a lot to me. Us. You're actually one of the best things to ever come into my life and I don't want my lack of…keeping it in my pants…to make you uncomfortable. I’m sorry for not saying anything sooner."
The deafening silence that followed his vulnerable confession might possibly be one of the worst things he ever had to experience. Then, a sudden giggle tore through the tense atmosphere.
Honey was laughing again.
“I-I’m sorry I didn’t mean to laugh but w-was that the thing that’s been bothering you?”
They moved closer to their boyfriend, that's currently sporting a comically betrayed look on his face. “I've noticed your hard-on already, Guy. And don’t worry, I've been…thinking about you like that too for a while now.”
Guy wished nothing more than to get swallowed by the ground beneath him.
“I–What the fu–YOU—!” Guy sputtered, not quite sure if he should feel relieved or embarrassed at the moment but one thing stuck to his thoughts, Honey felt the same.
“Honeeeey! You can't just say that and—I can’t believe you would—! Oh, you have no idea how much I've been through today!”
“I'm sorry!” But their shit-eating grin says otherwise and Guy can't help not to get mad anymore with that face. “Besides, it was kinda cute seeing you all flustered for once. Serves you right, you brat.”
“Oh wow, I’m the brat in this situation? You…torment me and now you degrade me with such scornful slander?” The man places a hand on his chest melodramatically. “I’m heartbroken, Honey…and still hard!”
"Hm…Well, then," Honey's half-lidded gaze directs itself to Guy's lips. The sultry tone of their voice tickles his brain in the best way possible. "Do you want me to—"
Guy lets out a surprised squeak as his back suddenly hits their sofa with a forceful 'thump!' Their hand is placed on the side of his head, fingers twisting around his curls. The other found its way on his thumping chest, carefully sliding downwards at an antagonizing pace.
"—lend you a hand? After all, I must’ve been quite the headache for you, in more ways than one."
“Oh no,” Guy started, easily maneuvering their positions to have his partner on their back “No, no, no, you’ve been teasing me for far too long, Honey.”
“Let me," He drags his hips across theirs and he revels in the way Honey chokes on their breath. “Handle this. Is that alright with you, baby?” He wishes he could take a picture of this moment. Seeing them writhe under him was a sight he never wanted to forget.
Honey gulps before their lips form a nervously excited grin. Their pupils are blown wide in anticipation. "You better get to work then, Guy."
Then, they slowly lean towards Guy to whisper their next words to his burning ears, “And don’t worry about being rough, hon. I can take it.”
Guy is a daydreamer.
But no daydream can ever compare to the reality he's going to be experiencing right now.

Part 3 | Masterlist | Part 5
Tumblr media
Fridays seemed to be the worst day of the week. That was your current mood as you smoothed down the corners of your dress and straightened your leather jacket, making your way up the steps of the Child Protective Services building.
They told you they wanted to meet to review some information, whatever the hell that meant. With the paperwork, or there was a stipulation in Ridley’s Will or worse, someone wanted to take her away from you. The nerves in the pit of your stomach were on fire with the idea something was wrong.
And you received the request on one of the few days you could actually pick Sadie up from school. The minute you hung up your phone and pressed the edge of it to your forehead, you thumped lightly against your skin, thinking it would will away the uneasiness settling in your stomach.
“Ah, pity, I was hoping Bradley was picking Sadie up today.”
‘Oh, please tell me you didn’t, Bradley, ’ you thought upon hearing that voice. Forcing a smile, which you were sure looked more like a grimace, you turned to face what you believed to be the Regina George of all elementary school moms.
“Hello, Courtney.”
Courtney Slack, the one mom in the school who made it her business to know everyone’s business. A blonde bombshell always dressed to the nines, who always had a comment, a thing or a statement to say about everyone and everything thing. The leader of the PTA association and the mom of the girl who bullied Sadie on her first day of school.
You’d be having words with Bradley the next time you saw him.
“Still single, I see?” she snarked. “Shame Sadie doesn’t have a strong father figure to look up to.”
Oh, you’d already be thrashing her into the pavement if you were a violent person. You were about to make a remark about Sadie’s numerous Uncles who literally risked their lives to make sure someone like her could live out her days being a bitch, before someone came up beside you.
“Still sticking your nose where it doesn’t belong, Courtney?” Alyssa suddenly pipped up next to you. Alyssa, a single mother of a boy named Will around Sadie’s age, was one of the first people to introduce herself when Sadie first arrived at the school. Sadie instantly took a liking to Will, and you liked Alyssa the second you met her.
She was uncaring of what people thought of her, pulling up in punky Doc Martins and patched-up jean jackets to student-teacher conferences and school events. She saved you from what you both liked to call Courtney’s group, the “Vanderpump Vulture Moms,” on your first school bake sale, Bob and Nat helping you stay up late one night to frost the hell out of a few dozen cupcakes.
“Can’t I take an interest in who my children go to school with?”
“Well, it looks like you need to go collect your spawn,” She coughed, “I mean, child from the playground. I believe he’s interested in shoving a stone up a kid’s nose.”
Failing miserably to hold in your snickers at the look on Courtney’s face, you watched as she turned frantically to find her son before calling his name and running off in hysterics. Alyssa gave in first, barely hanging on to her resolve and toppling over in laughter. You couldn’t help but join her, lulling your nerves for a moment with being able to laugh.
After a few seconds, she touched your shoulder, “I heard your phone call. I’m sure it’s nothing, maybe a follow-up to ensure everything is okay.”
You shook your head, looking at the kids exiting the recess doors.
“I just got her. It could be anything from a check-in to a notice of whatever they want to do with her. Rarely do they care about the kids.”
You spied Sadie’s lime green backpack amongst the crowd. Will was not far behind as they searched for the pair of you. They liked to race each other out the door to see who could get to you first. When she did reach you, she almost always knocked you flat onto the pavement, hugging you. You eagerly returned her hug but frowned when she kept burying her head into your stomach when you went to pull back.
“What’s wrong, Bug?”
“We have a surprise project due on Monday,” Will sighed next to you. Sadie pulled back, nodding at him, clearly upset at the thought she might have to do homework over a weekend.
“We’re going to miss our last hike, Aunt Liz,” She pouted.
This weekend was your last chance for a hike until the Spring. While Miramar didn’t really see snow, the weather had started turning slightly cooler. Soon enough, the bugs wouldn’t be out for Sadie to find. With the unexpected visit to CPS, she would no doubt have to miss it.
“And my hockey game,” Will echoed, dropping his head with a frown.
Alyssa ruffled Will’s hair, smiling down at Sadie. “Why don’t you come over tomorrow after school? You can set up at the dining table and do your project with pizza.”
You gave Alyssa a grateful look, mouthing ‘Thank you’ as Sadie and Will excitedly started planning how they would tackle their assignment so they could do their respective activities.
Alyssa shrugged, waving her hand. “Go figure out what they want, and don’t worry about her. We’ll ensure that assignment gets done for your hike and Will’s Hockey Game.”
So, while Sadie worked over at Will and Alyssa’s to finish her project, you tried to calm your nerves as you waited at the reception desk to check in for the appointment.
They made you wait for what you thought was hours, but it couldn’t have been more than 15 minutes. You did everything from bouncing your leg to circling your thumbs to scrolling aimlessly on your phone until they finally called your name.
You were ushered into a stuffy office room, papers hazardously placed in manila file folders strung across the room. An older woman, Mrs. Kirkland, from her nameplate, had several precariously stacked on top of one another on her desk. She reminded you of your old high school librarian, peering at you over the top rim of her glasses when you coughed under your breath to get her attention.
“Ms. Beck,” she gestured to the fold-out chair in front of her. You quickly removed your jacket, hooking it on the back of the chair before sitting down.
She smiled at you before glancing at her laptop, asking, “How’s Sadie doing?”
“Better. She’s adjusting well to her new school and seems to love science.”
“That’s wonderful,” She didn’t bother looking up as she spoke, typing something away at her computer. You watched her type, suddenly meeting her eyes as she peered up at you, looking up and down your body before inquiring, “And yourself?”
“It’s been hard without my sister, but my friends have supported me.”
“Hmm,” she replied. “No man in your life?”
Ugh, why did every older woman you meet like to comment on the fact that you were still single?
“Just the two of us, I’m afraid,” you smiled politely. “What is it you wanted to speak about?”
“Right,” she said, reaching down into her file cabinet to pull out a small folder. “A request was made to look into Sadie’s file.”
The ball forming in your throat for the past twenty-four hours dropped into your stomach. “What does that mean?”
“Well, our review process covers everything from the legitimacy of her birth mother’s Will to the handover of her guardianship. We have no complaints against you as her guardian, and we have on record you cared for Sadie greatly while you lived with your sister.”
You swallowed hard. “Yes, that’s correct.”
“So, this is just to ensure everything is in order and nothing was missed. Generally, the process takes a few weeks, but upon looking at this, I suspect our auditors won’t find anything out of place.”
“Why would someone request this? Is it something internal you guys do?”
Ms. Kirkland shuffled a few papers in her hand, reading what was on the page before replying, “I’m afraid this was external. Your sister was very thorough with her paperwork, so we did not need to do an internal review.”
Everything about this was odd. You had no family left. What was the point of making sure her paperwork was in order? Ridley always wanted Sadie with you and nobody at the time, and after her death, wanted to challenge it.
“I’m assuming you cannot tell me who requested you look into her file?”
“I’m afraid I cannot say who, only that the request came in two weeks ago.”
Ridley’s townhouse sold two weeks ago, you thought. This was screaming more was going on than just a simple review.
“As we have no more concerns, you are free to go. We just needed to inform you of the request.”
Resisting the urge to roll your eyes, you dug your nails into your legs instead, reaching to grab your bag off the floor. “And you couldn’t have explained this over a phone call?”
“I’m afraid it’s our policy to do these things in person to avoid miscommunication.”
You sighed, standing up and grabbing your jacket from the back of your chair. “Can you let me know when this is resolved?”
“Of course.”
You resisted the urge to slam the door as you exited the office and the building. While you knew deep down they wouldn’t find anything wrong with the paperwork or Ridley’s Will, you were still worried about who exactly put in the request.
Even with the anxiety racing through your veins as you raced back down the front steps to your car, eager to escape the miserable place, you couldn’t help but grumble out, “Policy, my ass.”
_______
Seeing you at the Hard Deck outside of work, unless you were with one of the Daggers, was unusual. But your nerves were on fire, you were dying for a drink, and you desperately wanted to confide in Penny.
It wasn’t as busy as it should have been for a Friday after four, but the music playing from the Jukebox did wonders for the atmosphere.  You spied Jake and Coyote at the back by the dartboard in their service khakis as soon as you walked in, Coyote attempting to throw a few darts while Jake was off to the side chatting with a brunette in just too tight of a light blue dress.
You couldn’t fault her for the blush staining her cheeks as she peered up at him. Jake used his looks to his advantage to get what he wanted. Arms flexed, cocky smirk, getting up and close into her personal space. She was buying it, given how close she angled herself toward him.
Women really did fall into the palm of his hand, you thought.
She embodied everything you figured you weren’t. The type to have it all figured out, not juggling school events, sports games, and pick-up times. She didn’t have long nights closing at the bar or trying to find someone to watch Sadie every week. Not that you would trade it for anything in the world.
She was the type you’d imagine someone like Jake would finally end up with. Even if he was chatting her up to be the next name on his bedpost, you struggled to force out the idea that they looked good standing next to each other. Hot people went out with hot people, right?
You didn’t know whether you wanted to roll your eyes or pay attention to the ache in your chest.
Penny smiled as you sat down but frowned upon seeing your face.
“Can I get a glass of Whiskey, Penny? Neat, please.”
She eyed you concerned, reaching down to grab a bottle of Jack Daniels and a glass. “You're not one to pop by for a drink?”
“Somebody requested Sadie’s file to be looked into at CPS.” You threaded your fingers through your hair, locking them behind your head as you rest your elbows on the bar.
Penny widened her eyes, placing the glass down in front of you. “Please tell me she’s staying with you?”
You looked up and nodded. “I’m fine. They needed to notify me it happened.”
“Can they tell you who?”
“Nope,” you replied curtly before reaching for the glass and bringing it to your lips. The liquid burned, and you resisted the urge to cough.
“I bet it's the school. Or one of the parents at the school.”
Courtney’s face briefly popped into your head at Penny’s words, but you quickly shot it down. While she might be horrible, she wasn’t capable or invested in causing trouble. You shrugged.
“Or Sadie’s bio Dad?”
You frowned. Ridley always admitted getting involved with Tyler was a terrible idea, save for gifting her Sadie. He was, for all pretense, a dick. You had yet to meet someone who was his equal. From the stories you heard about how he was before they became a permanent team, not even Jake could top this guy’s attitude on a bad day. Tyler was pure malice.
He wanted nothing to do with Sadie the moment Ridley found out. She had ensured you were listed as Sadie’s guardian the moment she was born, Tyler and his family written out of any responsibility or entitlements. You wouldn’t be surprised to learn if they tried to buy her off to save Tyler’s chances of making a career in Football, not that he really had any.
“He wanted nothing to do with her when Ridley was pregnant, and I doubt Cathy and Dean want to be caring grandparents this late in the game.”
They were some of the worst people in the world. You could gratefully count the number of times you had to deal with them on one hand. Sadie would never have to, not if you had your way.
“Either way, I don’t think he’d get anywhere near Sadie if he wanted to.”
Penny smiled fondly. “Bradley would be first in line to throw a punch.”
You shook your head. “Don’t forget about Nat.”
“I think Pete might try to get one in too.”
You giggled with Penny at the thought. Mav would go to bat for Sadie in a heartbeat.
“Lizzie!”
You turned around on your bar stool to see Coyote waving you over, the leggy brunette gone, and Jake taking Javy’s place throwing darts.
“Be careful with those two,” Penny said with a smirk, though it didn’t quite reach her eyes.
Resisting the urge to frown, you simply picked up your drink while standing up, throwing over your shoulder, “You know I can take care of myself.”
________
“Yo, there’s Lizzie,” Coyote said, tapping Jake’s arm while watching you enter the Hard Deck and walk towards an empty stool. Jake turned his head in the middle of his conversation at the mention of your name, catching the side of your face as you greeted Penny.
The two of you had finished the dishes discussing your shared taste in music that night. You credited Ridley as the one who got you into 80s music - telling him the Jean Jacket had been hers, sharing how the three of you got lost coming home from a hike while she was visiting with Sadie, stumbling into that thrift store hoping for directions. He could recall you laughing when you told him she freaked out so hard in the store the owner practically gave it to her for free.
While he’d never get the chance to, he wished he could thank Ridley for finding that Jacket. You didn’t judge him for his call-sign story as he suspected you would. Instead, you listened. You emphasized. You gave him credit for trying. And as everyone went to leave, you didn’t protest hugging him goodbye like everyone else.
Deep down, a part of him was grateful you gave him a clean state.
When the woman he had been talking to realized his attention had been drawn elsewhere, she scoffed and quickly returned to her friends after he didn't continue the conversation. He didn’t seem to care, wandering over to where Javy had resumed his stance.
“What’s she doing here on her day off?” Coyote placed the darts into Jake’s hand, not removing his eyes from you.
“She doesn’t normally come here on a day off?” Jake asked, starting to line up a shot.
“Not unless she’s with one of us. Maybe she has a date.”
Coyote took a swig of his beer, missing the way Jake dropped his hand and spun his head, eyes tracking the bar to see if anyone was joining you. But you were bowing your head, on the verge of pulling out your hair, staring at the top of the bar before replying to whatever Penny asked.
“What did you guys talk about that night?”
Jake turned back to Coyote, raising an eyebrow and tilting his head while he raised his hand again. “Nothing I haven’t told you before.”
Jake let the dart go, watching as it landed just above the center mark. “She thanked me for the flowers, for helping Sadie, and then we did the dishes.”
“Just like that?” Javy questioned. “So you didn’t pull any of your insensitive shit around her?”
“I wasn’t going to make her call me out twice. Not since you left me to deal with Phoneix and Rooster chewing out my ass.” He threw another dart, this one striking just above the last one.
Coyote ignored the dig, watching him throw two more before asking, “So the flowers were..”
“An apology, nothing more.”
Javy eyed Jake skeptically, “And why do you suddenly care about saying sorry to someone you hardly know?”
“Hey, I happen to like Sadie and Liz. And if the Daggers are spending Saturday nights over there, I’d like to improve my chances of being invited back.”
Javy went to collect the darts from the board before turning around to stand in front of Jake, proceeding to square him up.
“Be careful with her, Jake,” he said, placing the darts into his hand. “I’m not like the others, but you cannot fuck with Lizzie. She might put on a big show, but she’s more fragile than she looks. And Sadie’s a part of the equation too.”
Jake regarded him briefly, thinking about the note Sadie gave him that he tucked into his wallet, before finally answering, “She told me she wasn’t interested in that.”
“Interested in a tumble in the sheets or being your friend?”
“Shut up. I just want to be there for her and Sadie.”
“Oh, so you wouldn’t mind if I called her over here to join us then?”
“Javy!” Jake reached for Coyote’s arm, failing to stop him from lifting his hand.
“Lizzie!”
Jake grimaced as Coyote waved at you, quickly reaching up to throw another dart, this time half in frustration. It landed next to the metal circle encasing the center dot.
You called out to greet them, and Jake couldn’t help but take note of how your dress lightly swayed as you maneuvered yourself between pulled-out chairs to get to them, leather jacket zipper straps swinging as you walked, and a pair of brown aviators dangling from where you had hooked them between your breasts.
He caught a glimpse of Penny’s glaring stare from behind you, and his conversation with her the week before meeting you played in his head.
“She’s off limits, Hangman.” She had said as she thumped his beer bottle onto the bar. “You don’t go anywhere near this one, and I don’t care how many people you’ve helped throw out of this bar. I’ll never welcome you back, so help me. Not her.”
The second it appeared you would look back up, he turned to throw another dart, this time Coyote holding up his hand to block his view. You watched Jake land the dart directly in the middle, slightly impressed.
“So, this is your party trick?” you announced with a grin.
Coyote wolf-whistled as he approached you, holding out his hand to spin you in a circle, your dress swirling as you laughed. “You clean up nice, Lizzie. You meeting some special?”
Jake’s hand wobbled as he threw another dart, this time hitting the outer rim.
“What? Oh no, I had a meeting with CPS.”
Jake’s ears picked up at the statement, dropping his hand heavily to face you. “Is she okay? Are they threatening to take her away from you?”
You shook your head, warmth spreading in your chest at his concern.  “It was harmless. They just wanted to pass along some information.”
Jake turned to Coyote as you suddenly stepped towards the dartboard, seemingly interested in his score and leaving no room to continue the conversation.  Coyote looked at you with concern before glancing back at Jake, shaking his head.
“You know how to throw?” Jake asked, not taking his eyes off Javy and tilting his head toward Penny. Javy nodded, quickly approaching the bar to see if Penny knew anything.
“Oh, believe me, sharp objects and I do not mix,” you remarked, looking at his score before passing him as he went to collect the darts. You lent against the nearby pillar, pressing your glass to your chest.
“You can’t be that bad,” he glanced over his shoulder, pulling the last dart from the board.
“You’ve clearly never seen me on a good day. I’m a natural klutz,” you said, sipping your drink. Jake moved away from the board only to stop in front of you, holding out the darts in his hand.
 “Prove it.”
You looked down, apprehensive of grabbing them. You accidentally drew blood the last time you threw a dart in Penny’s bar. You still felt horrible thinking about it, managing to skim a General’s forehead. To this day, you swore you’d never touch the things again.
But then you took in Jake’s face, amused and assured, as if you were just being modest about being a bad shot. He clearly wasn’t going to let it go, shoving his hand out again to emphasize he was dead serious.
“I warned you,” you offered, placing your glass next to his bottle on a side table, shedding your jacket and glasses before grabbing a dart from his hand.
You attempted to line yourself up with the center of the dartboard. At first, you stood sideways, cocking your arm back several times in an attempt to let the dart go. The angle felt too awkward, and your hand started to cramp from how long you took. Then you completely turned to face it, fiddling with your grip while trying to fix your eyes between either the dart or the board.
You managed to fake out three throws before deciding to give up.
Sighing, you dropped your hand, “Jake, I’m going to hurt someone if I throw this damn thing.”
Jake tried to hold in his laughter, watching you struggle while leaning against the same pillar. He pushed himself off, uncrossing his arms before gently reaching for your wrist.
You looked at him, unsure, taking a step back,  “What are you doing?”
Jake shook his head, reaching out again for your wrist. “Just trust me.”
You let Jake bring your hand up. His whole hand, warm and rough, engulfed yours as he positioned it where he wanted. You sucked in a breath through your teeth when you felt his fingers, barely grasping at your hip bone, pull you closer to him.
“Loosen your hand,” he squeezed, forcing you to attempt to calm the tension in your wrist. It was hard when you could only concentrate on the feeling of his chest lightly bumping your back. With each touch, you could feel yourself resisting the urge to lurch forward with a shiver racing up your spine.
“Relax your shoulders.” He spoke, before tapping the heel of your boot with the top of his, making you take a step forward a bit. You gulped when you heard him say, “Widen your legs.”
You breathed in through your mouth, forcing the exhale to drag your shoulders down. It was a few seconds before he murmured, “Close your eyes.”
“Jake,” you warned.
“There’s nobody around. I won’t let you hurt someone.”
You sighed, closing your eyes and dropping your head slightly. Jake moved your hand again, softly squeezing once more. The hairs on the back of your neck stood up as you felt the heat of his breath travelling towards the left side of your jaw.
“Throw it,’ he rasped into your ear.
Jake loosened his hold on your wrist, feeling his calloused fingers trailing down your arm before lifting them off. The second his hand left your skin, you flicked your wrist forward as if his touch burned you. You refused to open your eyes, scared you might have hit someone or something old and well past its years on the wall.
“Look.”
You sharply breathed through your nose before opening your eyes to glance at the board.
The dart had managed to hit the center. You couldn’t help but smile.
“How’s that?” he squeezed your hip. “Not as bad as you thought.”
“No blood is a first,” you said, proud of yourself.
Turning around to thank him, the words died on your lips as you felt his breath warm your face. Jake had yet to let you go, his hand still clutching your waist and his nose a few inches from grazing yours.
The decision you made, standing in your front yard last Saturday while face to face with Jake, about never putting yourself in a position where he could break your heart, was far from your mind. You took in everything about him. His sandy hair, his jawline, his eyes which then met yours.
Jake’s stare brought you back to standing with him in your kitchen, washing dishes, and seeing his soft smile for the first time. Facing off in your backyard to guess music, him twirling one of Sadie’s pencils in his hand while helping her with homework, handing her the yellow tulip in your hallway.
Jake could no longer hear the chants of Penny and the rest of the Daggers saying to leave you alone in his head. They were being replaced with the pump of his heart, a feeling he only experienced while pulling Gs. And then your eyes, wide and bright, drew him in.
They were kind and soft. The type to have experienced laughter and the type of smiles that would make someone’s face hurt. You were looking at him like he was more than the metal wings pinned to his shirt. More than the good-looking pilot from Texas. More than just Hangman.
His eyes dropped to your lips, feeling your warm breath on his and noticing the subtle scent of the Whiskey you had slipped prior. Could he still taste it, he thought, if he just tilted his head a little further down?
And then the barbell rang.
Three times.
Jake immediately stepped back, head turning towards the bar with the healthy fear Penny had rung the bell for getting too close to you. But she and Coyote were standing off with some unlucky guy whose face had turned beat red at the bar. He had no cell phone, so either he disrespected the Navy or a lady and was not pleased about buying a round.
He squeezed your waist, winking at you with a grin, before letting go to join Coyote at the bar. You bit your lip, watching him pat the man on his shoulder before hooking his arm under his, easily carrying him off to the side door with Javy.
“You okay, Liz?” Penny called out, your eyes snapping to her as she raised an eyebrow.
Despite not knowing what the frick just happened, you called back, “Yeah, I think so,” while gripping the corner of the pillar with one hand.
If she asked you why your legs were wobbling, you'd blame the whiskey.

Part 1 gojohime because ao3 is down
This is 60% based from my experience from elementary to highschool. I was thinking of how my classmates were doing then thought of this friend, "Huh we're like gojohime but I friendzoned him."
5️⃣🎶♥5️⃣🎶♥5️⃣🎶♥5️⃣🎶♥5️⃣🎶♥5️⃣🎶♥5️⃣🎶♥
2nd Grade & 4th Grade
Utahime was in her 4th Grade in elementary school when her driver took a detour to pickup another kid from her old school, just a few kilometers away from her current one to save time and gas.
She hopped off the tricycle by the time the driver parked next to the fencing of her old school. Her driver told her not to wander off as he entered through the gates to collect his charge. She stood next to the fencing, she could see the students, from pre-schoolers to 6th graders, emerging out of the building to run at the campus playground or to wait for their chaperones.
She noticed there were minimal changes in her old school the last time she attend in her 2nd grade: the trees are taller, the playground has a new slide, the teachers have new uniforms and plenty of unfamiliar faces mixed into familiar ones.
Directly across where she stood is a basketball court and the one-storey building for the 1st and 2nd graders connected to the main campus one. She recalled a boy called Gojo from the pre-school rooms who used to follow her around like sneaking out of his classroom just to make faces in front of the windows while her former teacher was writing on the chalkboard or bother her for sweets from her lunchbox. The pre-schooler was quite a troublemaker who never understood bathroom privacy. She remembered his blue eye used to peak through the keyhole while she washes her hands. She shuddered at the the memory.
She observed few of the familiar ones playing at the swings trying to jump out of it. There was a quick movement in the corner of her vision originating from the 1st-2nd grade building but she choose to ignore it because she recognized a tiny girl named Shoko making a perfect landing by jumping out of the swing. Another boy with black hair cheered from another swing, his voice mixing with the ambiance of the students.
It is very noisy from her spot because of the sounds of purring engines from vehicles and the voices of laughing and screaming children. But it is not enough to drown out the high pitch voice of a certain someone...
"UTAHIME! I LOVE YOU!"
"Wha-?" Her head swiveled towards the direction of the 1st-2nd grade building. She spotted a familiar figure with white hair standing between the building and the baskteball court with legs spread out and hands cupped on either side of his grinning mouth.
"HaaAAAH?!" It's that pervert boy Gojo! Gojo's classmates that were loitering in the court laughed at him and cooed.
The grinning boy took a deep breath and shouted.
"I SAID UTAHIME! I LOVE YOU!"
Utahime didn't get a chance a reply because her driver, either was unaware of the commotion or was very good at appearing apathetic, tapped her shoulder to return to the trike. She followed him and the newly picked kid but not without looking over her shoulder and irritatingly starred at the grinning Gojo who starred back.
Good thing Utahime doesn't attend to that school anymore. Oh, the embarrassment and the teasing that she would get the next day if she does. Hopefully she would never see the kid again. She thought as she hopped back inside the trike.
Utahime saw him again in middle school.

to find promise of peace (and the solace of rest): a TMA fanfic
<< Beginning < Prev. || AO3 || My website
Chapter 52: June 1996
If this is what most primary schools are like, Gerard thinks, he’s astonishingly grateful to his mother for teaching him at home. For a given degree of “teaching”, anyway.
Martin insists it isn’t, and he’s told Gerard about the school he went to in Devon before he and his mother moved to London—he actually seems to miss it—but Gerard isn’t convinced. The whole building seems tired and sagging, but it’s also extremely clinical and impersonal. Everything is cinderblock and grey tile and plain doors with mesh in the glass. Bells bristle on the walls like boils, and all in all it seems more like a prison than a place of learning. Of course, Gerard isn’t entirely certain they’re all that different anyway.
The actual meeting takes place in the gymnasium, which has a wooden floor but is otherwise made of the same depressing cinderblocks as the rest of the building, and there is an almost coyly twee sign reading Support for Parents Alone Raising Kids, the capitalized letters obvious and adorned in glitter to make the SPARK stand out. The parents in question, mostly mothers, sit on metal folding chairs in only slightly better shape than the gymnasium. The kids in question, however, are currently being shooed outside.
Gerard does not want to go outside. He caught a glimpse of the playground on the way in, thank you very much, and it looks like a tetanus shot waiting to happen. Rust and concrete and sand and nothing particularly exciting. He’d much rather stay inside and listen to the meeting, or go hole up in the library—surely this place has a library. But Martin is tugging him outside, and, okay, he’ll play along.
Gerard’s a bit surprised, but he really likes this kid. Part of it is that he’s not immune to a bit of hero-worship and Martin tends to look at him like he’s some kind of minor god, but mostly it’s just that…well, Martin is a genuinely nice person. He’s amazingly brilliant for a seven-year-old, a fast and voracious reader—he’s read even more books than Gerard has—and he’s got, so Gerard thinks, the voice of an angel. His fondness for poetry is a bit of an irritation, but again, he’s seven, he’ll probably grow out of sentimental nonsense like that. Anyway, if Martin thinks they should go outside with the other children, Gerard will let him take the lead. After all, this is his first time being here; Mrs. Blackwood has been attending, and bringing Martin, for several weeks now.
Gerard isn’t sure why his mother agreed to come, actually, since his dad’s been gone at least five years now and she definitely doesn’t need any support in raising him, but she did and he already knows better than to question her actions.
There are about a dozen kids that spill out onto the playground and scatter to the corners. Several of the girls run over to pick up skipping ropes; most of the boys begin kicking a ball around. Others race for the climbing structure or the rickety slide. None of it appeals to Gerard.
“What do you usually do?” Gerard asks Martin, who hasn’t run to join any of the groups. He assumes Martin is waiting for him to choose what they’ll do, but surely Martin has a favorite activity.
Martin scuffs his shoe against the concrete, a bit shyly, and doesn’t look up at Gerard when he answers. “I, um, I like the swings.”
“Okay, sounds good,” Gerard lies. Like everything else on the playground, the swing set seems to be comprised of metal and rust, and he isn’t entirely sure what the point of them is either. Just to sit on them? It doesn’t sound like his idea of fun, but if Martin likes them…
There was a bit of a drizzle this morning, but it’s cleared up now; still, the pavement is damp in places and there are a few undeniable puddles where the yard sags and dips. Gerard is thankful for the new—well, new to him anyway—boots he bought at the secondhand shop last week; though worn, they still have deep treads that keep him from slipping as they head across the playground. He’s still wearing a three-piece suit, which he hates, but…baby steps. Sooner or later he’ll be able to save up enough of his pocket money to buy the clothes he wants to wear, and maybe eventually his mother will get the hint and stop dressing him like a small professor. They’re not upper class, whatever she says about her ancestors, and Gerard is pretty sure that the rich assholes who come to buy rare books from his mother can see through his outfits clearly enough. They know he’s trash. He might as well dress like it.
Martin rounds a teeter-totter that looks even more unsafe than the rest of the playground equipment and stutters to a halt, nearly making Gerard trip over him. He’s about to ask what’s wrong when he sees it, too. Someone else got to the swings first.
Someone else is a girl who’s either very young or very small for her age. Gerard finds himself envious of her outfit, not because he wants to wear that exactly—he can’t imagine anyone wanting to wear that many colors at the same time—but because she very obviously picked it out herself, because no way would her mother (he assumes it’s her mother) select something like this for her. She’s wearing a shirt with orange and white horizontal stripes, bright purple dungarees with tiny pale lilac flower buds printed all over them, and hot pink high-top sneakers with glittery laces, and her hair is pulled into two bunches on either side of her head and secured with something with bright, slightly translucent blue balls on the ends. She has a puffy gold star sticker under each eye like some kind of war paint, and she’s staring at the swing with narrowed eyes and her hands on her hips like she’s challenging it to something.
Gerard assumes they’ll be moving on to find something else to do, but to his surprise, Martin clears his throat. “Um, hi.”
The girl starts and whirls on them. Her scowl somehow deepens, and her fists come up in front of her. It would be intimidating if she wasn’t so tiny, but as it is, Gerard isn’t impressed.
“What?” she demands.
Martin gives her a smile that seems a bit shaky and indicates the swings. “Um, can—can we join you? O-on the swings?”
The girl considers this for a minute, then eyes the swings before looking back at Martin. “There are only two.”
“That’s okay, you two can have them,” Gerard says quickly before Martin can offer. “I’ll just watch or something.”
He’ll watch, all right. He’ll watch long enough for Martin to make friends with this new girl and forget he’s there, and then he can slip off inside. He’ll probably feel bad about that later, but at least he’s not abandoning Martin with no one to play with if he and Miss Thing here get on.
“Well…okay.” The girl lifts her chin almost defiantly and sticks out a hand towards them. “I’m Melanie.”
“I’m Martin, and this is Gerard,” Martin says, taking her hand and shaking it. “It’s nice to meet you, Melanie.”
“Uh…yeah…hi,” Gerard says. He, too, shakes her hand when she offers it.
Martin smiles, a bit more confidently this time. Melanie doesn’t exactly smile back, but at least she’s not scowling. “You can have that swing. I’m going to get on this one.”
“Okay.”
Martin goes over to the swing indicated and circles it for a moment, then leans forward to snag the chain. Gerard isn’t sure why until he notices the twin puddles directly under both swings. He realizes that generations of feet scuffing at the ground have worn a bit of a dip that allows water to collect, and Martin is worried—most likely rightly—that his mother will have kittens if he gets his shoes muddy. Once Martin has the swing in hand, he maneuvers himself so he’s facing away from it, takes a deep breath, and gives a little hop. Somehow he settles into the seat correctly without falling; it immediately swings backwards, and Martin holds on desperately and tries to kick his feet to straighten himself out and keep from swinging over onto Melanie’s side of the swings.
Melanie tries to do the same, but Gerard realizes very quickly that it won’t work. Apart from the fact that she’s shorter than Martin, the seat is somehow higher than the other side. If she leans forward without stepping into the puddle, she’s going to fall face-first into it. Gerard tries to figure out how to tell her that without making it look like he’s being a bully. Then, as Martin finally gets his trajectory more or less under control, Gerard notices that the swing has been wrapped over the top bar of the swing set.
“Well, duh,” Melanie says when he points this out. “Otherwise your feet get wet.”
“Yeah, but you can’t reach it. Hang on.” Gerard manages to plant his feet on either side of the puddle and tosses the swing a few times until he manages to get it over the top, with a rattle and a clank. Once it settles, he pulls it back and hands it to Melanie. “Here you go.”
“Thanks.” Melanie eyes him suspiciously for a minute, but takes the chains in either hand. She tries several times to haul herself up into the seat, but doesn’t quite manage it, and on her final try nearly gets dragged into the puddle. She manages to brake herself and backs up, then looks over at Gerard. “Can you hold it steady for me while I get on? Please?”
The please is clearly an afterthought, but Gerard doesn’t care all that much about politeness, and he’s a bit surprised to be asked anyway. He takes the chain and holds the swing as requested.
It still takes Melanie two or three tries, but she finally manages to get herself settled. Gerard holds on for just a second, until Martin swings out of the way, then lets go and steps to one side. As an afterthought, watching Martin’s still-wobbly swing, he catches his chain and manages to stop him, then straightens him out before pulling him back and letting him go as well.
“Thanks, Gerard,” Martin says happily, kicking his feet in their battered trainers forward.
“Thanks, Gerard,” Melanie echoes.
Gerard blinks. “Uh, yeah, sure, no problem.”
He watches for a few moments. They seem happy enough, and he’s about ready to try to slink off when Melanie asks, “Is this your first time coming here?”
“Not mine. Mum’s been coming for a few weeks,” Martin answers, his sentence punctuated with the tiniest of pauses every time he reaches the acme of his swing and pumps himself backwards or forwards. “It’s Gerard’s first time, though.”
“Oh.” Melanie twists her head to study Gerard with a frown. The action makes her swing start twisting slightly, and she hurriedly turns to face forward again. “But aren’t you brothers?”
“No.” Gerard tries not to sound appalled at the idea. It’s not that he doesn’t like Martin, he does, but he wouldn’t want Mrs. Blackwood as a mum any more than he would wish his mother on another child. He comes around and catches Melanie’s swing to stop it twisting before it slams into Martin and straightens it out, then gives her a little push when he lets go. “My mother is friends with his.”
“Oh,” Melanie says again. She doesn’t tuck her feet as far under herself this time when she reaches the top of her arc, and Gerard instinctively takes a step back and gives her another little push when she comes close enough. “So you don’t have a dad? Either of you?”
Martin shakes his head, but doesn’t elaborate. Gerard’s not surprised. He’s only known Martin about six weeks, and in that whole time, he’s never heard him mention his dad once. He gives Martin a push as well—it’s only fair—and tells Melanie, “Haven’t for a while. Mine died when I was about your age. I don’t remember him too well, really.”
“How old are you?” Melanie asks suspiciously.
“Ten.”
“I’m seven,” Martin interjects. “But I’ll be eight in August.”
“I’m seven, too,” Melanie says. “My birthday’s not until November, though.”
Martin kicks his feet out to push himself backwards. “‘Not yesterday I learned to know / The love of bare November days…’”
“Robert Browning?” Gerard hazards, catching Martin lightly and pushing him forward, then shifting to do the same for Melanie.
“Frost.”
“Who’s that?” Melanie asks. She tips her head back to look at Gerard, then squeaks as the chain momentarily goes slack and nearly topples her backwards. Gerard instinctively starts forward to catch her, but she manages to correct herself.
“Robert Frost? He was a poet,” Martin explains. “He wrote lots of really great poems about nature, especially winter and autumn and all that. He was American, but he lived in a pretty part. Mrs. Dooley taught me about him.”
“Oh—you go to school here too?”
“Yup. I just started this term. I was in Mrs. Tisdale’s class.”
“I was in Mrs. Brown’s. Maybe we’ll both be in the same class next year.” Melanie glances at Gerard as she reaches the end of her swing. “Whose class were you in?”
“My mother teaches me at home.” Gerard tries not to sound superior.
Melanie grunts. “Figures.”
Gerard decides to turn the tables a bit. “What about your dad? How long has he been gone?”
“He isn’t. He’s inside.” Melanie stops kicking her feet, and Gerard notices her hands tighten around the chains, even as her chin drops to her chest. “Mama just died.”
Okay, now Gerard feels like a little bit of a jerk. Martin stops kicking his feet, too, and his face, when he looks at Melanie, is creased in sympathy. “I’m sorry, Melanie.”
Melanie looks up as she begins to slow, and there’s an almost angry look in her eyes. “I’m not going to forget her. Not when I’m ten and not when I’m ten hundred.”
Gerard almost corrects her that “ten hundred” is a thousand, but one look at the reproachful expression on Martin’s face and he swallows that. “I, um, I thought you were younger than seven, actually. It’s been five years almost. And he worked a lot before that, so I never really got to know him all that well. I’m sure you’ll remember your mother better.”
Melanie sniffs. She clearly means it to be defiant, but it sounds more like she’s about to cry. “She’s worth remembering.”
Martin gives her an encouraging smile. “Why don’t you tell us about her?”
Gerard grabs Melanie’s swing again and pulls her clear of the puddle. “Why don’t we go inside first?”
“We’re supposed to be outside,” Martin protests.
“I’m big enough to be responsible,” Gerard boasts. “We can go sit in the library.”
Melanie slips out of the swing and hops to one side. “If Mrs. Dooley is there, she’ll let us.”
“Well…” Martin wavers.
Gerard tugs Martin away from the puddle under his swing. “C’mon, Martin, don’t you trust me?”
It’s maybe a little bit unfair, but it works. Martin’s eyes widen briefly, and he slips out of the swing instantly. “Of course I trust you!”
“Come on then.” Gerard takes Martin’s hand and reaches for Melanie’s, too; she eyes him suspiciously, but accepts it.
The teenager who’s supposed to be watching them doesn’t notice them slipping inside, which is just fine with Gerard. They tiptoe down the hallway—the doors to the gymnasium are open and they don’t want to get caught—and to the only other set of double doors, with a brass plaque on the left one reading LIBRARY. There’s a light on inside, and when they pull it open, they’re met with a plump, matronly woman who greets them with a smile and open arms. She seems pleased to meet Gerard, and she readily directs them to a tiny cluster of chairs.
“There’s no one else here,” she says, her Scottish accent thick and heavy, “so you can be as loud as you like. I’ll let your parents know they can find you here after the meeting, but meantime, you three just settle down and enjoy yourselves, you hear?”
“Thank you, Mrs. Dooley,” Martin and Melanie say in unison with matching smiles. Mrs. Dooley laughs and bustles away.
Gerard looks at the two kids he’s inexplicably saddled himself with and wonders, for a fleeting moment, how he let things get this far. He wanted to be alone.
By the time his mother comes to collect all three of them, with the explanation that Mrs. Blackwood and Mr. King are in deep conversation and will meet them out front, he wonders why he ever thought that would be the better option.

Keep Watching. 23
Ch22 Ao3 FFnet
——
As Kacchan went off to start his match, I happened to catch Uraraka sticking her tongue at him. What was that about? After that interaction, Uraraka was talking with Asui. I then tried to write down my observation of Todoroki's quirk quickly in my notebook. Before I could turn my attention to the viewing monitors for the next match.
As I watched Kacchan's match begin, I took note of how he was using Sero's tape quirk. Leave it to Kacchan to be creative with whatever situation he's in. I took that moment to write down not only how he used the tape but I also wrote a few side notes about Sero. I wonder what his tape was made of and how long the sticky lasts. Maybe this match would answer a few of these questions I had. And hopefully, I could ask him after the match. Then again, would Kacchan tell me what he noticed about Sero's quirk?
I also couldn't help but admire how Kacchan moved through the enclosed hallways of the building. It was incredible to see him move so easily. At that, he didn't even use his quirk to run. And when he was on the same floor as Ida and Ashido, he avoided them effortlessly. Every motion flows into the other. There was no snag or hiccup as he ran from one staircase to the other.
I could watch this all day. It's just like when I watched Kacchan parkour at the playground. When he effortlessly went from the mountain climbing wall and swung into the monkey bars. I missed those days of just watching Kacchan showing me all these cool moves he has been practicing. Even more so when he was stronger than most kids our age. He's so smart and strong and such a joy to look at. It's thanks to him I picked up parkour so I don't miss a moment of his greatness.
Watching Kacchan now had me speechless. Compared to many new heroes that had been popping up, he can easily rival many of them as he is now. But I know Kacchan can only improve from here. And I'm grateful I get to continue watching him up close. Now that I think about it, maybe my moves during my match were a bit sloppy. Would I ever be able to catch up to Kacchan in my current state? How can I make my moves flow as easily as him? Will the gym help with that?
"What are you writing?" I looked over to my right and saw that Uraraka was there. At that, she was a little too close. But for some reason, I wasn't feeling uncomfortable this time. How strange. I then looked at my notebook and panicked. It was still on Kacchan. So, I quickly turn the pages about Sero's quirk.
"Just writing about what I have been noticing during matches." I hope Uraraka didn't notice. Telling from her face I wasn't too sure. "Do you agree with All Might's thoughts on our match?" Maybe if I changed the topic, she wouldn't say anything about my notes.
"I still don't get why he talked about how I should have planned things better with my traps. Going on and on. But funny enough, it just sounded like an old man was talking about the old days. So, I may have zoned out."
I couldn't help but chuckle. "Same. He did draw it out too long and didn't get to the point. At least Aizawa cleared things up. As great as All Might is, his old age was showing there." At that, we both laughed. It was nice to talk with someone instead of just myself.
We soon were sharing funny videos of our favorite VTubers. That was until I felt something violently turned me around. To my shock, it was Kacchan. "Did you tell the extras it was my birthday?" Oh. No wonder Kacchan seems angry. He hated when other people knew about his birthday. Especially what happened in 5th grade with our new teacher. She threw a surprise party for Kacchan, and it didn't end well. "Answer me, nerd!"
I suddenly remembered where I was. I tried to get Kacchan off, but it was no use. He just was too strong. "I didn't say anything, Kacchan. I swear."
"Don't lie to me." I braced myself when I saw him raise his hand. But he was quickly pulled back by Kirishima. "Deku!"
What should I do in this situation? How can I make Kacchan believe that I didn't say anything? At that, it wasn't fair to everyone else to see him like this. He looks so hurt about this. No! I don't like it when he's hurt. I then recalled how I told him I wasn't going to be a pushover anymore. Maybe this is a good chance to follow up on that promise. Keeping calm, I walked over to him. "I didn't tell anyone anything. I know how you feel about your birthday. So, why would I do something so stupid behind your back?"
He got away from Kirishima and stood over me. But I didn't back down. I'm not afraid anymore. In fact, I was kind of upset that he would accuse me of something. Especially when he should know I would never do anything he didn't like. "If you didn't tell anyone, then how do the idiots know?"
I tried to push him away since he was a little too close. To my surprise, I was able to. As I made sure we could clearly see each other in the eyes, I stood my ground as I spoke. "How about you ask them!" That's when he tried to punch me, and to my surprise, I caught his fist. At that, I couldn't help but notice that Kacchan was shaking. But none of that matters. Because now I just had it was Kacchan's outburst on something I didn't do. "Back down."
It was still surprising to witness Kacchan actually back down when I told him. The way his eyes shook while trying to look away was not missed. While he went over to Kirishima and Ashido, I happened to notice how Kacchan's shoulders flew. Did I hurt him? But it couldn't be helped. His outburst was uncalled for. If he is going to accuse me of something, he needs to have his facts right. At that, it somewhat felt nice to put Kacchan in his place. Like a strange type of rush.
As much as I was enjoying this weird rush, I wondered what caused it. Was it the fact I stood up to Kacchan? Or the fact he actually listened to me when I told him to back down? Maybe it was both. But I also didn't like the fact that I had to be mad and hurt Kacchan. I wonder if there's another way to feel this rush again without hurting Kacchan.
At the end of the day, I saw how everyone was talking to each other. I wonder what that was about. But I didn't pay much mind to it as I tried to finish packing my book bag. I even made sure to leave a note on my phone to finish filling out the paperwork. Then I quickly texted Sydney to see if there was anything I should look forward to on Friday. "Hey, Deku."
I looked up to Uraraka. "What's up, Uraraka?"
She held out her phone. "We just finished making a class group chat. Want to join?" I couldn't help but smile as I added my number to the group chat. Let alone exchange numbers with Uraraka. "Maybe we could hang out this weekend."
If what Sydney told me yesterday is anything to go by, I might not be free this weekend. "Not this weekend. But maybe next time." I happened to see her frown for a second before she smiled again.
"Sure thing." With that, I left class and saw that Kacchan had already made it to the shoe locker. I tried my best to get past him to my locker, but I couldn't move. I felt frozen in place as I looked at him. Something about the way he currently looked had me just staring. But I quickly snapped out of it as I went to change into my sneakers.
On the way home, it was quiet between us. Thoughts about our earlier interaction played through my head. Was Kacchan angry at me for standing up to him? Or was he still angry thinking I told people about his birthday? But when I looked at Kacchan, he didn't seem angry. He seemed like he was in deep thought. I wonder what about.
While we walked from the station home, I couldn't help but stare at Kacchan's back. My thoughts ran through with his match today. With how amazing he was. Besides filling out the gym paperwork, I have a lot to write about in my hero notebook. Especially about what I learned about our classmates. But I was even more excited to add to the binder I had just about Kacchan. Maybe I could cross analysis some of the things I wrote back in 6th grade. Today's moves seem similar to some of his 6th-grade parkour moves.
"Spill it, nerd." I looked up at Kacchan in surprise. Did I do something wrong? Why was he upset? Was he upset about earlier? Or maybe… maybe he's upset I didn't get him anything for his birthday this year.
Before I could say anything, he got up in my face and made me look at him. Should I stop him from doing this? It's not like I mind it. Just that sometimes it would be nice if he wasn't so forceful when doing so. I looked at him as I tried to stay calm. "I'm sorry."
"For?" At that, I looked at him, and he seemed confused. But he did back away a bit. I let out a deep sigh as I straighten my back. No point in trying to seem small when it comes to him. That part of me is no longer needed. If I'm supposed to be a hero, I eventually have to learn to stand strong. So, why not start now?
I stared at Kacchan and kept my head high as I spoke. "I'm sorry I didn't get you a gift this year." There. I said it. Maybe now he wouldn't look so upset. But to my surprise, Kacchan shook for a moment as a smile tried to show itself. Yet that quickly stopped as he turned his head away from me. He then blinked as he looked back at me. Not to mention looking as if he was angry. So I was right. He was upset about not getting a present this year.
"Well, you better not do that again." There it was. I was right, but I'm glad he forgave me.
I couldn't help but smile as I relaxed a bit. "I promise, Kacchan. Is there any way I could make it up to you right now?" The way a pink shade crossed over Kacchan's cheeks was a sight. Especially with how that pink followed to his ears. He looked away from me. Which is then I noticed he kept making fists and releasing them. I wonder what he was thinking that had him reacting this way. It didn't help the fact I had the strangest urge to poke his nose. But I had to control myself.
"Just this once, I will allow you to give me birthday punches." I was taken aback by Kacchan's response. Only Kato and Saito ever gave him birthday punches. What if I hurt Kacchan with my punches? Then again, I wasn't sure how hard I could punch without OFA. Maybe this was a bad idea. I should ask to make sure.
"Are you sure about this?" Kacchan looked back at me. It was then I felt my face start to burn up. I had never seen him have that kind of face. From the way he seemed to have a slight pout and his cheeks puffed up. Sure, he seemed somewhat angry. But this was nothing like his typical angry face. In fact, it was much cuter. I can't wait to write about this in my notes. Kacchan's new face! I did my best to try to remember every last detail. From the way, his face puffed to the pout and softness of his eyes.
"Either you do it, or you have to get me two gifts next year." From the way Kacchan's voice was slightly higher in pitch was just cute. Even more with how it almost sounded like he demanded I choose. I don't get why I'm finding this side of him to be so cute. But I'll question that another time. I can always give him birthday punches and still get him two gifts next year.
"Ok." Kacchan then turned to give me his left arm to punch. I gave him one more look before I went in for the first punch. Trying my best to hold back was harder than I thought. But somehow, I managed to give him 16 birthday punches. I then stepped back and looked at him. There were a few tears that slid down his face, but he didn't say anything. "I hope I didn't hurt you too badly."
The way the corner of Kacchan's lips curled into a smile before quickly turning to a neutral state. Was confusing, but I won't push it. "You call those punches. A baby could do better than that." I did try to hold back, so I guess he's right. Then again, I did see him tear up. And he almost smiled. So, I'll take it as he was happy. Which got me smiling as I looked at his face one more time. Sometimes Kacchan, your words don't match up to your face. And for that, you will never be able to deceive me.
Without a word, I went off home. But I just couldn't stop smiling. Kacchan was pouting at me. At that, he almost smiled at me. Today I not only stood up to Kacchan but witnessed many new faces he could make. It makes me so happy. In fact, there were a lot of new things Kacchan did. From the way he used Sero's quirk to his advantage. Or how he didn't attack the hero team and stayed to a being defensive. It was so unlike him to do so. He's more of an offensive type of fighter. Kacchan, you'll never stop impressing me.
When I got home, I could hear that mom was on the phone with someone. I walked past the kitchen and tried not to hear anything. Once in my room, I dropped my book bag by my desk. Then I went about pulling out the paperwork and homework from my bag. Making sure everything was on my desk and that I had my hero notes out. I then went to check if mom was done with her phone call. Which, to my somewhat surprise, she was still talking. But from what I could faintly pick up, it sounded very formal.
Thankfully I didn't have to wait long, as mom finished her phone call. The way she just stood there and did not look over at me was troubling. What could possibly be the conversation she had? At best, why did she look shaken up about it? It's then mom looked up at me and had tears running down her face. I braced myself for whatever horrible news was bound to come out of her lips.
"I know this is all too much and last minute. But I just got off the phone with your school." Why was she calling UA? I hope she wasn't trying to get me out of the school without telling me first. Waiting for her to finish speaking was making my anger rise. What the hell did my mother do? I could feel my fist tightening and my body shaking. But what I didn't realize was that I had walked over to her.
"And? What did you talk about?"
It did not faze me how my mother shook before me. "I was informing them you won't be able to go on Monday. Since that's when your father's funeral service is being held." At that, I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding. My shaking body and heavy shoulders didn't make the situation any better. Especially with how angry I still was. I can't believe I'm going to miss a day of class for this nonsense. "Please forgive me, Izuku. I tried speaking to the company that was taking care of your father's service. But they kept insisting that we do this as soon as possible. I'm sorry, baby. I'll make it up to you."
And just like that, the numbness took hold. I plastered that one smile and stared at my mom. "It's ok, mom. I know you do your best. I'll be ok. Well, I got homework to do." I then went about hugging her. But all I felt was the cold nothingness. I knew she was in my arms and that she was crying. But I, like many times, became mute to it all and just went through the motions. With that short exchange, I went to my room.

06.08.22 — Jerusalem
Today we walked and walked and walked. At the end of my run, I called Atlas to see if he and Hero wanted to meet me at a different coffeehouse. We came up with a game plan for them to navigate the way. And then I waited for them to arrive. I have to admit, it was a stressful wait. But they were so proud of themselves when they met me that I am glad we are stretching these muscles. The neighborhood where we are staying [Talbiya] is extremely safe and filled with mothers and kids walking the streets.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then we visited some shops along the street, Emek Refa’im] before heading back to the apartment. Of course, if Hero spots a playground, we have to stop. Atlas thinks the Israeli playgrounds are more fun because they have “old school” equipment like seesaws.
Tumblr media
After some downtime at the apartment we headed back to Hillel street [Aroma coffee, our second coffee shop of the day!] to meet a friend of a friend’s sister. We were delivering her laptop to her. This woman is currently living in the Golan Heights and made Aliyah about ten years ago. Atlas had a dozen questions to ask.
Then we walked from Hillel street to a pottery store in city center, an area that is quite different than our neighborhood. Our neighborhood Talbiya is leafy and has mostly courtyard style housing. City Center has the shuk, a light rail, and a mix of orthodox neighborhoods bordering one area, and new buildings the other area. Walking through this part of town you see very old architecture and an orthodox community and a few blocks later trains and high rises. The dust and pollution has really made it challenging for me.
Tumblr media
We painted pottery that will be baked and ready for us to pick up next week. Hero said “this is so relaxing.” It was a lovely counter activity to all the hustle-bustle we do.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then we walked home but it was close to dinner and we needed to recharge with pizza. Atlas tried a new pizza with a dozen toppings dumped on it, including tuna (that he thought was brisket, which wouldn’t make much sense and he later realized his error) and egg. He was adventurous but not thrilled with his choice. Along the walk, we saw all sorts of things and since everyone had just eaten it was easier to slow down. We also have to make the walks fun for Hero by letting him climb and explore.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We kept walking until we reached our neighborhood park and played for an hour. We have a joke about all the cats in the evening at the park. Often there is at least two families having a pizza dinner. You see a few park cats milling around the periphery and we joke that they are sent by the greater cat population to check out what pizza flavors has been brought by the humans. Then they retreat and report back to the waiting cats what is on the menu for the night. All the cats wait for the humans to leave the garbage (inevitably many people leave quite a mess) and they come out in droves. It’s a whole scene the kids have imagined and they like to narrate.
We had an incredible day. On busy days like this the kids average about five miles walking. Atlas said that when we first arrived it seemed hard to walk from the apartment to the pizza restaurant for dinner. Granted, we were tired that first night from traveling. But he feels his endurance has increased. I’m not sure Hero would agree. Hero is not as enthused to walk and we have started doing more piggy back rides.

Protector (Batsis Reader)
(This is from a chapter of my original story but I quirked the character to be the reader. The reader can teleport and turn invisible and your hero name is Viper. You're also part of the Teen Titan's and Connor Kent is your love interest, although it's not too evident in this chapter. Alexandra and Alex are original characters in the Titans based on my two friends. If you like this chapter and you want me to publish the book, let me know. I would make the original character the reader)
Y/N's POV
"I'm going on a walk!" I announced, opening the Wayne manor door.
"Alone?" Alfred asked, walking towards me.
"Yeah," I shrugged.
"You may want to have one of your brothers accompany you," Alfred said. "Or Ace. You are the daughter of the infamous Bruce Wayne. And you're injured."
"I'm also the Teen Titan Viper," I chuckled. "I can take care of myself, Alfred. But thank you."
"Do be careful," Alfred said as I walked out of the large mansion.
I looked around as soon as I was outside before teleporting into the city. I teleported to an alleyway next to Gotham City Park. I swiped a strand of hair from my face before walking into the park. I smiled at the kids laughing and playing on the playground, remembering when Dick would bring my brother and I there when our parents and Bruce were working.
That's when I heard the scream. I spun my head to see two men with penguin masks grab a kid and pull him into an alley, his parents and all other adults apparently oblivious to the kidnapping.
"Hey!" I yelled, running toward the child and his kidnappers. I stopped at the alley, noticing that the child and the men were gone. I furrowed my brows, walking further into the alley. "Hello!"
"Help!" the child's voice echoed through the alley. I continued walking, ignoring the fact that the echo was unnatural, due to the fact there was no building covering the alley or stopping the sun from shining down. "Help!" I noticed that I had found the end of the alleyway. "Help!" I looked down to see a doll, the size of a small child, it's mouth open.
"Oh no-"
"You Y/L/N," a voice said from behind me. "So quick to save the day." Before I could turn around, I felt a slight prick in my neck. I turned around to see the familiar plump and long-nosed figure of Oswald Cobblepot or the Penguin, as well as the men from before standing next to him.
"Cobblepot," I mumbled, feeling drowsy.
"Careful there," Penguin said as I stumbled towards him. "Maybe you should just... relax."
I reached back and pulled out the thing that had pricked me. It was a small tranquilizer dart. I threw it to the ground as I fell to my knees. Dad, I thought before everything went dark.
***
"Wake up!"
I groaned, fluttering my eyes open. I tried to move my hands, only to feel a coarse rope around them. My eyes shot open at that realization. I sat upright, trying to move my legs, only to find them each tied to the leg of the chair I was sitting in. I looked around, to find myself in what looked like an abandoned penguin exhibit. I sat on a makeshift iceberg above freezing water, I let out a breath, noticing it come out in a puff of mist.
"Good, you're awake." I looked up to see the Penguin, in his top hat, monocle, and usual penguin tux. He held a raw fish, biting off it's head. He leaned casually on his lethal umbrella, a blade sticking out from the bottom.
I stayed stoic. First thing Bruce taught me in a kidnapping. "Why am I here Cobblepot?" I asked.
"Just a playing card," Penguin shrugged, some of the fish spitting from his mouth.
"So you want my father's money?" I scoffed. "Spend all of your family's fortune on that disgusting fish or buying this run-down zoo?"
"We both know Bruce Wayne isn't your father," Penguin said. "Your father blew up." He pointed the fish at me some of it's gut splattering on my face. "But yes."
"Why do you need Bruce Wayne's money?" I asked, pressing the Titan's distress button on my bracelet.
"Why do any of really need money?" Penguin sighed. "I need to rebuild the Iceberg Lounge."
"You really think people would go to a club owned by a former villain and current psychopath?" I scoffed. "Built off of stolen money?" Penguin growled and slapped me across the face with the half fish, splattering more guts and blood across my face. I spit out the few that got in my mouth.
"Some people don't matter who owns the club as long as they can spend their money on booze and beautiful women," he said, swallowing the rest of his fish. "Now let's notify Bruce that we have his dear little girl here, shall we?"
Penguin pulled out a phone and typed in Bruce's number and turned on the speaker. I tensed as the ringing began.
"Hello?" Bruce's voice rang through.
"Oh hello Bruce," Penguin said into the phone.
"Cobblepot," Bruce said. "What-"
"I just wanted to let you know that I have your dear daughter here with me," Penguin said. "Here Y/N, say hello." He held the speaker towards me, but I stayed silent. I felt one of his henchmen, grab my hair and yank, making me let out an involuntary yelp. He used his free hand to press a gun under my chin.
"Cobblepot, don't hurt her," Bruce said.
"Bruce, I'll be fine don't'-" I let out a strangled scream as Penguin stabbed my bicep with his umbrella.
"Y/N-"
"Now Bruce, she'll survive, as long as you get 4 million dollars to the Gotham Zoo, by noon," Penguin said, his blade still in my arm. I glanced at the clock on the phone, seeing that was ten minutes to noon. "If not then..." He twisted the blade, making me bite my lip to keep in a scream, but a small whimper arose. He then hung up.
"You won't kill me," I said through pained whimpers.
"I won't." Penguin agreed, pulling the blade out of my arm hard, making me yell again. I felt thick, warm blood drip down my arm quickly, and heavily. "But he might." The gun was pressed harder against my chin.
I swear Alexandra if you don't hurry-
My thoughts were cut off by Penguin being thrown off the makeshift iceberg. I held back a smile upon seeing Alex fully costumed, standing in front of me. She grinned at me.
I heard a loud crash and felt the sun shine on my back before left my chin. I watched as the man was thrown into the cement wall.
"Are you okay?" I heard Alexandra ask from behind me.
"I've been through worse," I said. I turned to see Jaime shoot another henchman into the wall with his scarab's laser.
"Superboy, get Y/N free," Raven said, flying above me. She created a magic cage around Penguin.
I felt something hot between my wrists before feeling the ropes snap. "You sure, you're okay?" Connor asked, flying in front of me.
"Totally," I shrugged, placing a hand on my bicep to stop the blood. Connor looked unsure but quickly laser-eyed the ropes around my ankles. I stood up and turned around to see Alexandra toss another henchman into a pile she had created and Alex ran around them, tying them up quickly.
"How'd you super twits get here?" Penguin asked.
"Shut up," Alex said, making faces at him.
"We're just here to help any citizen in danger," Alexandra said, placing a hand on Alex's shoulder.
"Raven, get him to GPD," Jaime said. Raven nodded before flying out of the hole they had created coming in, the caged Penguin behind her. "And Superboy-"
That was when Bruce appeared. He dropped dramatically in front of me, Dick and Damian following close behind. All fully suited up.
"Guess they beat us to it," Nightwing said, grinning at the Titans. "Nice job team."
Robin rushed to me, pulling my hand from my arm. He glared at me as he noticed the gushing blood. He pulled out a bandage roll and wrapped my arm. I winced at the roughness of his wrapping skills. "This is why you don't go on walks alone," he said, flicking my forehead.
"Thanks for the love," I said, rubbing my forehead.
"Robin's right," Bruce said, narrowing his eyes at me. "You could've gotten killed and worse, you could've gotten out of this by using your powers."
"I couldn't have given myself away," I said. "They could have connected me to Viper, then to you and to Robin and Nightwing!"
"Your safety is more important than our identities," Bruce said sternly. "I don't want you to leave the manor this week."
"Are you grounding me?" I scoffed. "Over something that wasn't my fault?"
"Busted," Alex mumbled.
"Bats, that's not fair," Connor said, walking forward. Bruce sent him a classic Bat glare, a mix of intimidation and Dad guilt. Connor stopped. "Or you know, whatever. Your kid."
"You can't-"
"I am your father, Y/N Wayne," Bruce said. "We're going back to the manor and I forbid you from leaving."

i FINALLY HAVE SOME TIME TO DO THIS SO HERE YOU GO. thanks @sleepytoby for the ask !! sorry it’s EXTREMELY late though :( some of these were actually pre-written! (ALSO REPOSTED srry about that!)
this is my first time doing these types of things so sorry if it’s weird!
PART 1 (LUCIFER, MAMMON, LEVI, SATAN): Here
PART 2 (ASMO, BELPHIE, BEEL): To be written
PART 3 (DIAVOLO, BARBATOS, SIMEON, LUKE): To be written
PART 4 (THIRTEEN, RAPHAEL, MEPHISTO): To be written
“Diavolo, why we are here again?” Lucifer asks, walking by his best friend.
Diavolo in return flashes a toothy grin, “you’ll know when we get there!”
The redheaded demon is currently being accompanied by his butler, the seven Lords of the Devildom, RAD’s exchange students, and Mephistopheles.
Speaking of the latter, he walks up to Diavolo, “about that, may I ask, why am I here, Lord Diavolo?”
“You’re head of RAD’s newspaper club, you’re bound to want to write about something so interesting!” he replies.
Thirteen, although all the way at the back of the group, makes an uninterested noise, catching the attention of her companions.
“What is this place anyway? It looks like a mall, which, by the way, we have plenty of in the Devildom. I don’t see why we had to go all the way to the Human World!”
“Oh, but Human World malls have so many rare finds!! Things we don’t have in the Devildom!” Asmo squeals.
The sound of Diavolo’s hearty laugh fills the parking lot, startling a few other passersby.
“This isn’t a mall, Thirteen! Well, not entirely. MC said it technically was one!”
At the mention of the human’s name, Mammon raises his head, “wait, MC told you about this place?”
“Looks kind of kiddy for MC...” Levi claims.
“Hello, hello!! Welcome to the Pizzaplex! May I have your passes?” A cheerful woman situated at the front door says.
Pizzaplex?
"Barbatos? You brought them, right?” Diavolo asks his butler.
“Of course, My Lord. MC told us specifically not to forget them” Barbatos replies, pulling out the tickets from his pocket.
“Thank you very much, sir! Enjoy your visit at the Pizzaplex!” The woman says.
Opening the doors, the group is met with an overwhelming sight.
The entire place was lit up with purple-pink lighting, as well as hints of yellow from stage lights on the ceiling and floors.
The center area of the floor had a black and white checkered pattern to it, while the rest had black, matte tiles.
There were four sets of stairs, two on each side, along with an escalator in between the staircases and walls. Even more stairs and escalators were found not too far from the first.
Metal palm trees were situated at the middle of each pair of stairs.
At the center of the main building is an unbelievably LARGE, shiny, gold statue of MC, along with three other people.
The statue of MC had a mic in their hands, while the others were popping out from behind him holding keytars, guitars, and basses.
LUCIFER
what.
what am i looking at.
why is it so bright?? and so.. colorful
“it’s like the celestial realm was colored with highlighter pens” THAT’S WHAT HE THINKS
the statue of you. you have a statue?? of yourself??? in a children’s playground???
he doesn’t like how every kid he looks at is screaming and running around with pizza sauce on their faces
unsanitary, and he HATES it
but when he sees YOU perform, he does think it’s childish
bUT
he loves you. and thinks you’re awesome.
making all these children happy just by breathing
lmaooo lucifer try doing that
hates how loud and bright it is but stays for your sake (and diavolo’s ig but mostly yours)
MAMMON
it’s like a casino but for kids without the gambling
^^ exactly what runs through his mind
literally think of ANY time he’s bewildered about a certain place. that’s him right now
THE STATUE OF YOU. IT’S MADE OF GOLD?!?!?!I
“is it real gold, MC??”
“no, sorry mammon. it’s metal”
:(
doesn’t matter anyway, it’s a statue of YOU and anything with his human is valuable!!!!
will most likely ask how much you make working here
off topic but i hc glamrock!MC makes BANK here at the Pizzaplex
wants to go to the arcade with MC. yeah ok Levi can come ig but mostly him and MC!!
cries when you have to stay with the children
(i don’t think i ever talked about this but after performances the glamrocks will hang around with children IF there wasn’t a birthday party planned afterwards)
loves you on stage
it’s kids music he’s banging his head to rn but it’s BANGER kids music so he’ll let it slide
you’re singing it, after all
LEVIATHAN
you know that one voiceline he has
the one that goes like
GGHUUAÅÆĂÄÂÃAÅÆĂÄÙŰŮŪĞĢĞĢH
yeah that one
that’s him upon entering the building
first of all wants a replica of the statues, maybe 300 of each and an extra 100 of MC
collector thingz, you know?
and when you tell him there’s an arcade?!?! bro he’s dead on the ground
wants to go to EVERY ROOM. EVERY ONE.
except the physical activities room cuz yknow. he’s levi
mans screaming crying combusting when the MC is performing
his new favorite band is the glamrocks now
sorry sucre frenzy some kids band has topped you in levi’s heart
SATAN
wow.
just. wow.
that one shocked sprite he has. yeah that
“impressive” i think that’s what he would say.
wonders if the statue was actually gold. but not in the mammon type of way where he wants a chunk of it to sell it. it’s interesting to him.
he loves how the glamrocks are animals. but he wants a cat glamrock. preferably for MC to be the cat
not to say MC isn’t cute as a sheep rn
impressed by how all this; lights, smoke machines, a moving STAGE, holograms, just EVERYTHING, is just for children
humans are weird. it’s nice
PART 2, 3, AND 4 come out as soon as i could!! thanks for reading !!

All of these fics are top notch so you should all check them out!
25.) a trail of honey through it all by @yvesaintlourent (27k)
The boy in front of him, well really, the man in front of him, was like something out of a confusing wet dream. Built, tall, tan and muscular, his skin glistened with sweat after a long day of working outdoors with his hands. He was wearing a cut up old American football shirt, the bottom hem was torn and the sleeves were cut off to the point where the t-shirt was really just a loose tank top. The shorts he had on had clearly been full length jeans at one point, and were now just crudely cut off above the knee. His white socks were pulled up too high on his calves, and the brown work boots he had on were old as fuck, the leather peeling along the edges of the soles. Curly brown hair stuck out from the edges of his backwards snapback, and there was a smudge of grease wiped along his brow bone. The smattering of hair along his jaw proved that he hadn’t shaved in a week or two, the hair growing in thicker across his upper lip and around his chin. His sinfully bowed mouth was pink and plump, and Louis was suddenly hyper-focused on the way that he chewed at the toothpick stuck between his lips. He looked like he needed a shower. Louis wanted to lick him.
Or, the TPH fic we’ve all been waiting for.
24.) even the best laid plans by @falsegoodnight (25k)
“Anyways,” Louis stresses, narrowing his eyes, “just let me say it and then rate how terrible of an idea it is on a scale from one to ten.”
“Alright,” Zayn agrees, sitting up expectantly.
“I want to ask Harry Styles to take my virginity,” Louis blurts, holding his hands out for emphasis.
The way Zayn’s eyes bulge is almost comical. “Negative infinity,” he says, voice choked. “Negative infinity times negative infinity.”
“Technically, a negative times a negative is -”
“Really negative infinity,” Zayn corrects himself, shaking his head wildly. “Louis, what the fuck?”
-
Or, Louis wants to have sex with someone and decides Harry is the perfect alpha for the job.
23.) A Distant Hazy Light by @greenfeelings (76k)
Life’s pretty ordinary for Harry. He lives with his best friend, got into university just like he’s planned, and manages to support himself just fine for an unbonded omega. If he sustains that lifestyle by getting paid to help alphas through their rut every now and then, that’s nothing to be hung up on. Until he’s hired by an alpha that turns everything upside down.
Or, Harry’s working on taking Louis’ walls down, until he builds his own up.
22.) Ghost Note Symphony by whoknows (96k)
Louis is on tour when he first hears about it. It’s all over the news – Harry Styles Attacked By Fan runs in headlines for days. It’s not even just the gossip rags, either. Actual journalists are covering the story. It would have been impossible to avoid hearing about it. Technically, Oli is the one who tells Louis about it, but it’s not exactly being covered up. Harry doesn’t answer Louis’ text asking if he’s alright, but that’s not really surprising. They haven’t spoken for months, and it’s been a lot longer than that since they’ve had a real conversation. The sting of the text going unanswered is still there, less painful than it might have been a few years ago.
It’s not that it’s easy to forget about, exactly. Louis has a whole life outside of One Direction now, though. So Louis goes on with his life, figuring that if Harry was seriously hurt he would have heard about it by now. He might currently be in the same country as Harry, but being on opposite sides of it puts enough distance between them that putting it in the back of his mind is easy. There’s nothing Louis could do, even if he thought Harry might want him to.
That’s why everything that happens next comes as a complete shock to him.
21.) Until by @allwaswell16 (38k)
Rural Eagle County, Colorado wasn’t the type of place to find a famous musician or actor. At least not until songwriter Louis Tomlinson showed up with pop star Niall Horan to visit his uncle’s horse ranch, and they just happened to find themselves next door to a reclusive former movie star.
20.) Strangers in Love by sweetums (42k)
Louis wakes up to find himself in a marriage with the last man he thought he'd ever end up with.
-
Prompt 51: An amnesia fic where louis and harry were enemies to lovers but after an accident, louis only remembers those memories that him and harry hated each other. now harry has to fix it. I think something like this less dark and less angsty compared to other amnesia fics and it could be funny
19.) A Long Way From The Playground by Pink_Sunsets (170k)
One Direction is broken up. They broke up five years ago. That should be the end of the story, right?
Harry is finished with One Direction. He now has a new life, one with two kids and a successful solo career. And he’s happy.
But a call one night from management flips Harry’s whole new life upside down, and he’s forced to face the life he had left behind.
As well as a certain blue eyed man who had left him behind.
18.) my love’s not simple (it’s fragile) by @falsegoodnight (27k)
“Can I take you out tomorrow?” he asks. “My shift ends at 7 but we can go for dinner at 8.”
Louis is silent for a few seconds and then, “Like… on a date?”
Harry swallows thickly. He hasn’t done this in years, hasn’t ever wanted to. “Yeah.”
He’s worried he’s misread things but then Louis raises his head to kiss Harry’s cheek. “Yeah,” he says easily. “Sure.”
Tension leaves his body swiftly. “Are you sure?” asks Harry. “I know we’re both so busy but I can’t not try with you, Lou.”
“Neither can I,” says Louis. “I think we can figure it out. I care about you a lot Harry. We’ve known each other for a week, but I already like you so much.”
-
Or Harry's new job is threatened by his impending rut. Desperate for a solution, he allows Niall to introduce him to Louis, an omega whose heat begins the same day. They click.
17.) Cocaine for Breakfast by @harryeatsburger (309k)
“It’s an easy job.” He continues, as if Louis wants to listen. “Like I said, a few trips. Parties, students, nothing dramatic.”
Louis gazes over to Harry. He’s looking thoughtful now, eyes on the green like he’s talking more to himself than Louis.
“Clubbing, drinks. Whatever, the business is just a side thing.”
That’s not how Louis remembers it to be, “You lying?” He honestly can’t tell.
Harry shakes his head slowly, meeting Louis' eyes.
“No,” He answers almost toneless. Harry clears his throat, “I won’t put you in any dangerous situation.” His voice is sincere, Louis can tell he means it, his jade green eyes glinting with truth.
or, - Louis Tomlinson is a drug addict, sent away from his beloved party-scene to recover. There, he discovers that small towns have just as much access to drugs as London did, plus something even better that he just can't get enough of. That something is a boy with green eyes and bouncy curls named Harry Styles. -
16.) Tastes like Strawberries by @sadaveniren (4k)
I’m stressed. I’m nesting and demand cuddles. Come over
Harry frowned and double checked who the text was from. Yup, it still said Louis - Grad, which meant it was from Louis from his grad school.
aka Louis texts Harry by mistake. It works out
15.) the way the storm blows by @rbbsbb (21k)
Louis doesn’t have a habit of thinking about Harry’s dick.
That would be weird, seeing as they’re best mates, and they share a flat, and they’ve spent holidays at each other’s family homes. Their friendship hasn’t ever risen to a point where Louis should want to see his mate’s dick, and he’s happy to keep it that way.
Except, all that Louis can think about is exactly that. The size of it. The shape. The amount of people it’s been in.
Maybe it’s the tequila talking, or the fact that Louis’ just recently walked in to an eyeful of Harry taking turns on some slags that he’s never seen before, but. Louis’ mind can’t stop obsessing over the idea.
14.) bruise you like a peach by @falsegoodnight (40k)
There’s two reasons Harry despises Econ.
The first is that it’s boring as fuck. The second reason is a bit more personal, a bit more focused in a way. As in it’s focused on one specific thing, or in his case, person.
His name is Louis Tomlinson.
13.) Watching The World Fall by whoknows (11k)
This segment has been going on long enough that Louis knows what’s coming before James starts in on it, trying to sell him on something he knows that Louis wouldn’t normally be buying. But there’s four cameras surrounding him, and an audience watching him expectantly, so if Louis wants to continue convincing people that he’s doing just fine, he’s going to have to go along with it.
“We have a whole host of single men backstage waiting to meet you, Louis,” James tells him. “We want to help you find love tonight, on Late Late Live Tinder. Is this okay? Do you want to play?”
It actually kind of makes sense that his first date after the break-up is going to be just as public as said break-up. Something like coming full circle.
“Alright, James,” Louis agrees, hopping down off his stool.
“Okay, come down to the stage,” James says. Louis can’t even tell whether the excitement in his voice is genuine or not. “Right now, come on down!”
12.) Quiet People Have the Loudest Minds by @2tiedships2 (38k)
Broadway shows were one of the few things that could keep Louis’ attention for a full two hours without needing to move about. But not tonight.
The alpha next to him was both infuriating him and practically turning him on at the same time. He needed to leave. The alpha, that is. Louis was staying.
Or the one where Louis is a nonverbal omega who has accepted the fact that he will never find an alpha that will treat him as an equal. On the other hand, he’s never met anyone like Harry.
11.) The Wrath of the Emerald Eyes by @purpledandeli0n (85k)
His chin is grabbed harshly, facing the two deep green eyes that have been getting on his nerves for the past ten minutes. The smirk on the man's face does not vanish. The grip of his hand on Louis' chin does not soften, his thumb at the side of his lower lip.
His smile widens as he answers Louis' question, ''My name is Styles, but you will call me Captain."
Pirate AU
10.) Canyon Moon by @eeveelou (40k)
For as long as Louis has remembered, he has been promised to be mated to Harry, his best friend and the future pack alpha. But Louis’s heart belonged to the forest and to the hunt more than he could ever imagine it belonging to Harry.
Then Harry’s father dies in a violent accident, and Louis’s future alpha disappears on the wind.
An A/B/O Lion King AU
9.) We Both Got Nothing to Hide by lovelarry10 (43k)
“Talk to me, Lou.”
“I can’t,” Louis mumbled, knowing he genuinely couldn’t say it. He couldn’t admit to what he was doing. “Don’t ask me to say it, because I can’t.”
“Then… I’ll try and guess. You’ve… got some stuff of Harry’s. Something of his to make it smell like him?”
Louis just nodded, eyes fixated on the floor. This was humiliating, but he knew Zayn wouldn’t stop until he found out what was going on.
“Okay. Like… a blanket, or a comforter or something?”
“Kind of…”
//
Omega Louis has a secret nest. Alpha Harry keeps losing his clothes.
8.) sleeping on our problems by @falsegoodnight (67k)
I’m in love with you, Louis thinks. He feels empty, weighed down by his sadness and the loss of Harry inside him just moments ago before his knot finally went down.
There’s moments where he’s sure Harry feels the same. Like now, when he’s gazing down at Louis with so much adoration and tenderness. It’s like they’re both on the cusp of something more, but neither of them ever say a word.
His confession is on the tip of his tongue ready to slide out like honey, and yet he remains silent. They both do, looking at each other and recognizing the reluctance mirrored in each other’s eyes. It’s then that Louis realizes they’re both scared.
-
Or Louis sleeps with Harry and they have more than just catching feelings to worry about.
7.) like it’s a game by @soldouthaz (32k)
there is little harry hates more than truth or dare.
and louis.
6.) before we knew by @falsegoodnight (39k)
“C’mon Lou,” says Zayn after a moment, He sounds even more exasperated than before. Louis sort of has a knack for exasperating people, especially people like Zayn who aren’t usually bothered by his brattiness. “Can’t you give this guy a chance? Harry Styles? Aren’t you curious about him at all?”
Despite his best efforts, Louis still flinches at the name. He really shouldn’t be so affected after all these years. He’s seen the name printed down the curve of his waist in obnoxiously and uncommonly large loopy letters every single day since his sixteenth birthday eight years ago. He’s very familiar with the name Harry Styles.
It sounds pretentious and Louis hates it.
He hates everything about his supposed soulmate.
He hates his large handwriting that stands out like a claim on his skin whenever he’s walking around shirtless. He hates his pretentious name. And now he hates his supposed curls and green eyes and dimples.
-
Or Louis has been skeptical of soulmates for years so it seems like fate when he finally bumps into the owner of the obnoxiously large signature printed into his skin since age sixteen: Harry Styles, a human rights attorney who is firmly against soulmates.
5.) Mine Would Be You by @crinkle-eyed-boo (114k)
Louis blinks his eyes open, his eyelids fluttering as the room swims around him. He takes several gulps of beer once he confirms that he’s definitely not hallucinating, that the very first portrait Harry Styles ever painted of him is hanging on that wall.
Louis stares at the wall, his heart jackrabbiting in his chest as he realizes that there’s not just one painting of him, there’s five, the portraits lined up like they’re some sort of storyboard depicting the rise and fall of his deepest love. His greatest heartache. A pain that cut him so deep that he left the fucking country, severing all ties with his life in New York, now suddenly surrounding him as if he’d never left.
Fucking shit motherfucker fuck.
Louis returns to New York City five years after he left it – and the love of his life – behind. He didn't intend to see Harry again, but fate has a funny way of pulling them together, whether they like it or not. After making a begrudging truce, they both start to wonder: Would it be so bad if history repeated itself?
4.) You’ve Got My Devotion (Hate You Sometimes) by @harryrainbows (95k)
Harry was in the biggest boy band in the world. He was also one half of the best (or worst, depends on who you ask) kept secret relationship in the music industry.
Now, almost five years on, after One Direction has broken up, and Harry and Louis' relationship has as well, a video threatens to put everything at risk.
One determined Irishman, a massive publicity stunt and two begrudging exes are all it takes to bring One Direction back to life and maybe, just maybe, Harry and Louis' mangled love life too.
Or: Harry and Louis are forced to fake-date after an old video from when they were dating emerges.
3.) The Space Between by @lads-laddylads (39k)
Harry Styles is the alpha rockstar who can’t sleep and doesn’t know why.
Louis Tomlinson is the omega PhD student who helps him figure it out.
2.) Nothing But You On My Mind by @absoloutenonsense (83k)
Louis Tomlinson is a PR manager hired to improve the image of royal bad-boy Prince Harry Styles. Unfortunately for him, that means being faced with the Prince's constant innuendos, incessant dirty jokes, and relentless flirting. Louis just wants to make it to Princess Gemma's coronation; once she's crowned Queen, his contract is up and he never has to see the Prince again.
1.) Collision by @tequiladimples (224k)
Mythology/Fairytale!AU in which Louis is a dainty fairy with a temper who wants to be intimidating and Harry hurts people. Naturally, they hate each other.
(Featuring Liam, the big and not-so-bad wolf who’s got a thing for humans, Zayn, a human with supernaturally good looks, and Niall, the cupid who just wants his job to be easier.)

Rewarded as a bully deserves (HunterXhunter)
Killua was in a rotten mode as he headed for the closet park in town, huffing and growling over him and Gon having a fight.
It was just so stupid! Here he was, a deadly assassin and for the 6th time this month they'd woken up in a bed drenched with pee. Lord knows Gon was trying to be kind and supportive but really, who could blame him for getting tired of waking up soaked?
Gon wanted Killua to start wearing 'protection' at night to bed, but the deadliest bed wetter alive refused to go that far, he had already comprised and let Gon put rubber sheets on the bed so hotel staffs stopped giving them a hard time hadn't he?
In any case they had taken a shower and gotten dressed, and Gon asked Killua to go for a walk by himself and think about what he had said.
'Screw that nonsense.. I'm go and cheer myself up the best way I know how!' Killua thought as he came to the playground area of the park. Nothing lifted his spirits like a little bit of harmless bullying.
Scanning the play area Killua spotted a good first target. a 5-6 year old with dark tanned skin and a black brush cut was digging away in the sandbox, making a moat around a sad looking sand castle he'd made with one hand, while licking away on a mint chocolate ice cream cone with the other.
spotting a plastic bucket with some water in it for the moat, Killua smirked and strolled over.
"Nice fort little guy." He said sarcastically, getting the boys attention and the kid gave him a smile.
"thanks! I was working on it for like ever!" The little guy said, apparently not recognizing the tone.
"Heh, Would be a shame if something happened to it though." Killua chuckled. "you did get house insurance against giants right?"
"Uhhh what?"
"well what if some big mean old giant.." Killua started, stepping into the sand box now. "Just came up..and did THIS!" Killua asked and stomped his foot down on top of the fort, snickering as the little guys eyes went wide.
"HEY! WHY'D YA DO THAT?!?" the little guy yelled, starting to stand up and with tears welling in his eyes.
"Because i'm better, stronger and therefore better then you. Little dorks have to get put in their place." Killua sneer and then grabbed the arm holding the ice cream cone and make the kid smuch it onto his hair. "Geez you little dorks are SUCH messy eaters!"
The boy squealed as the sudden cold on his head and how icky it felt.
"S-Stop this! I-I" the boy tried to make his threat clear but he was also trying not to full on bawl.
"heyyy don't worry about it, I'll help you clear up!" Killua laughed, then snatched up the bucket with the water in it and dumped it on the boys head, then tugged it down over the kids eyes.
"Hey, that's a good look for you, but it's missing something." Killua said and sneered, then turned the boy around and tugged back the kid's short then tanked up on the poor little guys briefs.
"Awww, a fan of sailor moon I see!" Killua teased and hooked the back of the briefs on the back of the bucket, then booted the kid in the ass, sending him sprawling out of the sand pit.
"Alright, I had my fun, get the fuck out of here before I decide to be mean." Killua said cheerfully.
the thought that all of this had been Killua being nice light a fire under the boy's butt, and he ran/crawled off, not even trying to remove the helmet or pick the wedgie out of his butt.
"well, I feel better already." Killua commented to himself, though he noticed a few other kids and adults glaring at him.
"Oh by all means, anyone who wants to try and punish me.. " Killua said, going from a happy goofy look to his slash smile. "Step up."
no one did.
After scaring two more little guys into give him all their ice cream money Killua was in the middle of getting a cone (Double chocolate mint just like the dork had had, it had looked good after all) when he heard a familiar voice.
"That's him Carlo! that's the bully!" cried the dork from before.
Turning around slowly Killua smirked, Carlo was clearly the dork's big brother, and while he was a little bit taller then Killua he had a slim build and the same tanned skin, though his hair was a bit longer while still being short.
"Ok mister, I'm going to give you ONE chance to say sorry to my little brother, and get him a replacement cone. If you don't.." Carlo said, crossing his eyes and glaring at Killua with a death glare.
Killua, who gave those out with ease froze for a tiny fraction of a second, and his bladder twitched, but he shook it off and took a long lick of his ice cream to show he wasn't scared, and to give him time to regain his composure.
"What? If i don't you'll do -what?-" Killua asked. "Try and fight me and end up hanging from the teeth ball pole by your undies? I mean, I'm mostly in a good mood now but if it's a ass kicking you want." Killua sneered.
Carlo rolled his eyes, then smirked.
"You know..I've been in a bit of a funk lately, and beating up bullies always makes me free better.. so thanks." He said.
Killua raised a eyebrow to thank but before he could react, Carlo was right next to him, and much like Killua had done before, taken a gripe on the arm with the ice cream cone.
On small difference though, Carlo wasn't going to make him put it in his hair and had tugged open the front of Killua's shorts and undies.
"W-Wait d-don't!" Killua shrieked, his plea fell on deaf ears though and he was somehow powerless to over come the taller boy power.
As such, a high pitch wail was heard as Killua's twig and berries got a double mint chocolate coating.
Killua's eyes crossed and a cartoonish image flashed in his mind as it felt like his private had just been transformed into two ice cubes and a Icicle, then there was sudden relief and warmth, making him stick his tongue out the side of his mouth in blessed relief.. at least until he noticed the warmth was traveling down his legs.
"heh, Carlo the bully wet himself!" The little guy pointed out, snickering and getting out his phone to take pictures.
"I can see that buddy, Aww, did the cold cold ice cream make da big bad bully go wee wee?" Carlo asked, folding his arms over his chest and baby talking to Killua.
"i..I uh.." Killua stammered, Sure, he was no stranger to soaking his pants at NIGHT while he was asleep, but this was a new one for him! "I..didn't go tinkle?" He finished lamely.
"Rightt then whats that making a puddle on the ground right now and staining your shorts." Carlo asked.
"..I don't have to answer that! In fact, I've had enough of false accusation's and I'm leaveing!" Killua huffed and turned around to do just that, but also exposed his back to his new found enemy.
Carlo, knowing that Killua had wedgie his little brother Hector, moved in and with on hand tugging Killua's shorts back the other grabbed the waist brand of Killua's Barney briefs and lifted up before the poor hunter even had a chance to fight back.
Killua's mouth opened as if he was screaming, and while dogs howled in pain no one with human ears could of heard the noise coming from his mouth, it was that high pitched.
Carlo smirked at the response and said "Awww, Barney briefs? that's just soo..fitting! But I wonder how strong they are?" then adding his other hand to the back of the waist band even as Killua looked over his shoulder and shook his head no, bringing his hands together pleading, Yanked the soon to be ex-hunter off the ground by a good 2 inches if now more and dangled him there as Killua turned pale and went blank eyed.
"Oh wow, those must be reinforced Carlo!" Hector marveled, recording this all for YouTube.
"I know, kinda a shame, if they weren't they'd of snapped by now and he'd know SOME relief." Carlo chuckled then turned him and Killua better into frame for the camera.
"hi I'm Carlo and this is a big bully who tried to pick on my little brother..Huh, never caught his name.. Hey wedgie boy, whats your name?" Carlo asked and holding Killua up with just one arm delivered a hard swat to Killua's buns, which also ended up making his shorts slide down around his ankles showing off his pee stained undies.
"A-AH! M-Mah name is Killua Zoldyck and I'm super super sowwy! Pwease stop!" Killua begged and pleaded, in a voice that sounded like he'd sucked on some helium.
"I dunno Hector, what do YOU think? Has Killua had enough?" Carlo asked, and Killua shot the boy he'd bullied a pleading look, bottom lip trembling and tears welling up.
"Hmmm you know I really think..that you should use him like a yo-yo till his undies snap. THEN I'll forgive him!" Hector giggled.
With both hands on the waist band Carlo went to work even as Killua started to blubber and cry for his mommy.
It ended up taking a record breaking 55 bounces before Killua's undies snapped, and by that time Killua had gone to la-la. with his undies snapped and ripped off off he was too out of it to notice that he was currently face down butt up with nothing covering his der rear and his bubble butt and little package showing.
"oh man.. that explains why he was in such a bad mood.." Hector giggled, having turned off the camera for now but uploading the video. (after all, even with a member as small of Killua's the mods on YouTube would of removed the video)
"man, makes me feel like I picked on a over sized toddler. feeling a little guilty." Carlo said, though in truth he wasn't really.
Killua's shorts were gone by this point as the boys who's ice cream money he had stolen had retrieved them, and after finding some of the cash and taking Killua's wallet, had tossed them in a bin meant for dog waste.
"Well, nothing we can do now, we don't have any spare pants for him." Hector pointed out.
"Well not quite..remember that weird vendor we passed on the way in?" Carlo said, digging into his pocket and pulling out some bill's.
"Heh.. you don't mean.." Hector asked.
"A yup. be a good boy and run and get widdle Killua something to wear." Carlo said, handing the money over and keeping a eye on 'sleeping beauty' while Hector ran off.
Killua was having a wonderful dream about having a endless buffet of candy and chocolates and it was so nice after what must of been a nightmare where he was tormented and bullied beyond belief.
He was slowly waking up and rolling over to sit up and rubbing his eyes. "Nggggh Heyyy Gon, you wouldn't believe the night..mare..I.." Killua started to say then opened his eyes, seeing Carlo and a semi crowd all around.
"Welcome back to the land of the living tiny!" Carlo said.
Killua huffed at that and stood up, about to tell Carlo off, he wasn't THAT much shorter when a breeze blew and he noticed how much he felt it on his on buns.
Looking down his face went crimson and Killua grabbed at his shirt and tugged it down, trying to cover up his privates.
"W-WHERE THE FUCK ARE MY UNDIES? MY SHORTS?!" Killua yelled, getting roars of laughter from the crowd.
"Well your undies were totally wreaked so we tossed them." Carlo said, nodding over to a waste bin for normal trash. "As for your shorts, there was a couple of boys you really seemed to annoy earlier and after getting back they're ice cream money with interest, they tossed them in the dogie waste bin..I doubt you'll want them back."
"but..but.. I can't go around with my ding dong on display!" Killua whined and whimpered.
"That's true. don't worry, I already thought of that shrimp." Carlo said and nodded behind Killua.
Killua turned to look and there was Hector, the brat he wished he'd never of picked on, running back with a pack of...DIAPERS!?
Killua whimpered loudly, a spurt of pee coming out and soaking the bottom of his shirt as he turned back to Carlo with pleading eyes.
"Please no! anything but diapers!" Killua whimpered. "I'm not a baby!"
"heh, Are you SURE about that?" Carlo asked, looking down and making Killua's gaze follow to the damp spot on Killua's t-shirt.
"i..but..that was because.." Killua mewed then shrieked and jumped, grabbing at his bun's as Hector came in range and walloped Killua's baby butt.
Ironically when he came down he landed in Carlo's waiting arms, like a blushing bride.
"Awww how cute, but you really think I'm gonna save you?" Carlo asked, then dropped Killua onto the hard ground and onto his tender buns.
"S-Stop being s-so mean to me!" Killua whined, on the verge of anther crying fit.
"Sheesh, I should of gotten him a paci." Hector said, handing the pack of diapers over to Carlo then tugging the shirt up and off of Killua, using it as a tear rag then tossing it out.
"Oh wow, Lookie here Killua~" Carlo said, reading the pack then holding it in front of Killua's face then read from the back. " 'New little poopers punishment diapers are perfect for your so called big kid who refuses to use the potty! extra thick to ensure they waddle, it comes with a embarrassingly babyish nursery print we promise to have your little stinker blushing bright red. with a special stink guard you and the big baby won't have to deal with their stink!' Heh wow, Oh look, they offer alt versions, that's something to keep in mind if you need more lessons."
Killua meanwhile was looking at the front of the package, showing sobbing pre teens in the bulky diapers and smirking parents.
"I-I changed my mind! I'll go home naked!" Killua whined.
"Nonsense! what kind of person would I be if I let you go without the diaper you CLEARLY need!" Carlo said, as if he was doing Killua a favor. "This is gonna go down one of two ways loser. You can either lay back and suck your thumb while I put as many of these as I can on you, or I can kick your ass, knock you senseless..then put as many of these as I can on you. Either way, you're going back to diapers. YOUR choice."
Killua pouted, started to ball a fist up.. then sighed and laid back, popping his thumb in his mouth and turning away from the crowd as laughter and taunts rang out.
"Loser!"
"Big baby!"
"Wuss!"
Carlo was a little disappointed that Killua decided not to fight back, but he had to admit seeing the wanna be bully accepting his big baby fate was kinda cute.
ripping the back open open Carlo smirked, dispute being the size of a pack that should be able to hold 16 diapers, there was only 6 of them in the pack and he pulled on of the massive things out, making sure everyone could see all the rattles and paci's and teddy bears and the like all over the diaper then unfolded it.
"Ok Shrimp, Butt up! If i have to lift you up I'm giving your buns a swat!" He said and wasn't shocked when Killua's butt almost levitated up in a instant to avoid any more punishment. "good boy!"
getting the almost pillow like diaper under the loser's butt, he gently pushed Killua's butt back down and smirked as Killua loudly sucked on his thumb, getting drool going down his chin as Carlo pulled the front up nice and snug and then taped it up.
"Welcome back to babyhood Shrimp." Hector said, leaning down and snickering, and making Carlo beam with pride.
In the end they only manged to double diaper Killua, the diapers were just too massive and they ripped a third one trying to get it on the babfied brat.
After he was all nice and snug in his diapers Carlo told Killua to try and get up and to Killua's massive shame, not only could he NOT get up on his own, but he couldn't even get close to bringing his knees together.
The fourth time he just plopped down on his butt trying to get up, Carlo rolled his eyes and chuckled.
"-sigh- Ok Shrimp, let me help you." Carlo said as if he was doing Killua a favor.
Holding out his hands Killua took them and got yanked up to his feet, legs wobbling as he tried to center his balance.
"heh, you might need a bit to get used to waddling in there. Try waddling over to that tree over there." Carlo said, pointing to a tree that would of only been 10 seconds away normally, but with this massive bulk taped around his hips it might as well been a mile away.
Still, Killua knew better then to argue at this point and took a wobbly step, then anther, and smirked, thinking he was getting the hand of it.
'I got this! I can-' He was thinking when his fourth step went wrong and with a loud yelp Killua plopped on his butt, a shocked look on his face but not hurt considering the thick padding under his butt.
"Awww, widdle baby Killua doesn't know how to walk!" Hector giggled, getting more laughter from the crowd.
"yeah, guess you better stick to crawling shrimp..you CAN at least do THAT can't you?" Carlo asked, tilting his head and smirking.
Killua huffed, he wanted to try and walk again but knew he wasn't getting any help and there just wasn't anything to help him get up to his feet with around. He toyed with getting in the crawling position and pushing himself up THAT way but had a feeling while he'd be in the middle of it Carlo would just smack his butt and send him face first into the dirt.
getting on all fours and trying to drown out the snickers and flashes of camera phones going off, Killua rolled around and got on all fours and then slowly crawled over towards the tree, glad that he had been right that he could crawl at least.
'at least i didn't have to do a diaper scoot across the ground, knowing my luck it would of ripped apart the diaper and I'd of gotten a spanking.' Killua thought with a sulk as he reached the tree.
"Well well, at least you can crawl, I was worried I was gonna have to carry you over." Carlo snickered. "Now use the true shrimp and get to your feet, and shake that diapered ass and sing us a song about what a big dumb baby you are and how happy you are to be back in diapers."
"..Your joking right?" Killua asked, jaw dropping. "There is NO WAY in hell I'm gonna d-" he started started to say but Carlo cracked the knuckles on his right fist and and light tapped his fist into his open left hand.
"You SURE about that?" Carlo asked.
"..W-what If I can't think of any lyrics because I'm a big dumb baby?" Killua squeaked out, flooding his pampers.
"I'm sure you'll think of something. It's ok if your dumb is lame though, your just a diaper baby shrimp." Carlo said.
Grunting with effort, Killua pulled himself to his feet, hands braced on the three and looked over his shoulder, the crowd was watching with delight and he trying to think of something, anything to sing.
"I...I'm big baby Killua and I'm so happy.." he started, wiggling his diaper, shutting his eyes.
"Because a big strong boy put me in a nappy!
Diapers are totally wear I belong!
so I hope all of you love my big dumb baby song!
I thought I was a bully but I'm just a dweeb
filling my diapers up with pee pee
If i ask for undies look at me like I'm a nut
then make baby poop with a punch to the gut!"
The act of singing the song and keep his eyes closed so he didn't have to see the crowd (though he could hear them laughing and cheering him on) had Killua's body getting into it and he was shaking his diaper booty like there was no tomorrow.
"Stupid babies like me we don't need to think!
we just sit in our diaper and super stink!
Watch me prove that as a baby I'm the best
I'm gonna fill my diapers with a super big mess!"
Killua's eyes shot open at that, had he really just promised that!? worse, his body was again moving on it's own accord and he was squatting down now, grunting and pushing, puffing out his cheeks.
'no no no no! why can't I stop myself! GOOOON! HELP!' Killua thought.
"Killua? whats going on?" Came Gon's voice.
Killua almost didn't believe it at first, it was just he wanted Gon to save him that he heard the voice of his boyfriend! But no, a look over his shoulder showed Gon standing there, eyebrow raised.
"G-Gon you have to s-save me! I-I-I.." Killua tried to tell Gon about what had happened, how he'd been victimized but before he could get the story out, something else came out in the back of his diaper. "I'M POOPING!" Killua cried out.
if the muffled farts hadn't of been hint enough, the back of the THICK diapers bloating out and getting even bigger would of given it away, and despite the diaper's boast of super stink guard, Killua's backed up stinky load (he hadn't gone in 5 days) was filling the area with a rotten smell, driving part of the crowd away.
Gon for his part just held his nose and then shook his head.
"Really Killua? You won't wear diapers to bed despite being a bed wetter, but you'll load them in public..Your coming with me mister man." Gon scolded and walked over.
"Um.. Should we tell him-" hector started to ask Carlo, holding his own nose.
"Nah, it's better this way. you can get out of the area of effect though, I'm gonna go say by by to baby Killua."
Walking over Gon was scolding Killua and swatting his boyfriends mushy butt as Killua whined and whimpered, sucking his thumb and still going.
"Hi, I'm Carlo...I was watching your little guy today." Carlo said, holding out a hand.
"Oh, well, thanks. I'm sure he was a handful." Gon said, giving Killua a look then shaking Carlo's hand.
"well he wasn't that bad. it was a lot of fun actually. anyways, here's the rest of the diapers Killua got and asked me to put on him, and if you even need a babysitter, give me a call." Carlo said.
"Heh, i just might, give me your number." Gon said, taking out his phone and handing it to Carlo, one hand still mushing Killua's tush.
"there we go. anyways, you two have fun! Byeeee baby Killua! you were LOTS of fun to play with." Carlo said and waved bye to the stinky big baby.
"Killua, don't be rude!" Gon scolded.
Killua whimpered, knowing there was no way he was living this down, he was gonna be in diapers for at LEAST a month..and knew it was pointless to try and tell the truth now.
Sliding his thumb out of his mouth as he finished loading his diaper, he gave a weak wave to Carlo and in a small voice said
"Bye bye."

Let Me Hear You Say
part 46: Joshua’s Weeb Closet. (46/50)
red below 👇 (1.5k words)
“You know I can break out of this, right?” you say to Mingyu who is currently holding you down. He just scoffs knowing you can't move anywhere, but entertains you, “I know, it just makes me feel strong”
“You already strong, Gyu. Anyways where is everyone?” Seokmin asks. You look around the room only seeing half of your friends in Seungcheol’s small living room. Seungkwan and Wonwoo are sitting on the couch quietly talking. You wonder how they became friends because you've never seen them talk to each other. You assume Jeonghan and Joshua are probably somewhere making out so they don't have to deal with actually setting up the party. Seungcheol and Jihoon seem to be lecturing Chan about who knows what. Things are finally quieting down when everyone decides to watch the movie that's playing until someone bursts through the doors, “I'm here motherfuckers. The party is finally getting started”
“She drunk, isn't she,” Cheol asks as he points towards the small blonde girl in Mina’s arms. Seoyeon nods as she brings Chaeyoung to one of the rooms in the apartment. When she comes back, everyone turns towards the commotion at the front door. “You can't make me go inside. I'll bite you, you know I will”
“Soonyoung, if you just go inside, it'll make everything so much easier,” Jun says as he continues to try and push the smaller boy in. Everyone just watches him, Minghao, and Vernon struggle to bring Soonyoung in until Cheol eventually just picks him up and holds him down, “You two are gonna talk like two grown adults or I’m firing Jihoon”
“Woah why am I getting involved in this?” Jihoon asks walking over to the rest of the group. Everyone looks confused before Chan talks, “How can you even fire him?”
“Yea and with what job exactly,” Soonyoung says causing Cheol to roll his eyes, “Look if guys talk to each other, I'll tell you where I work”
“One, no one cares. Two, stop lying to yourself, it's okay if you're unemployed. We won't stop loving you just because you don't have a job, Cheollie” you say which only annoys him more. Jihoon confused asks, “Why do you guys really believe he's unemployed? The dude is literally our boss.”
“ ‘Our’ boss?” Seungkwan says, “yes our boss. He's at the building all the time. How did you not know that?”
“To be honest I thought he was just going there to hook up with you, Ji,” Jeonghan says before getting a drink. “Ew, why would I hook up with Cheol? He's like my brother. That would just ruin your friendship.”
“And that is exactly why I’m not admitting my feelings for Y/n!” Soonyoung screams before trying to run away but failing as Cheol is still holding him down. You decide yelling back is the best option, “like I would ever admit my feelings for you.”
“That’s it! Time out for you two until you can figure out your issues. Bring them to Shua’s weeb closet and don’t let them out until they're cool with each other.” Cheol says before lifting Soonyoung. Mingyu sees the message Cheol sends and brings you to Joshua’s room as well. “Hey hey, why are you taking them to my closet? What if they fuck in there?”
“Then they'll be happy again,” Vernon says with a smile on his face. Shua rolls his eyes before giving in. Eventually, you and Soonyoung are both shoved into the small closet. You try to stay as far as you can from him, putting a blowup titan in between the two of you. To ease the awkwardness after a few minutes of silence, Soonyoung asks, “You think Shua uses this thing as a sex doll?”
“If he does, I regret touching it,” you reply. The boy beside you laughs and says, “If I remember correctly, you and Joshua sleeping together for a whole two years after college, right?”
“Yeah well, it was kinda weird. Let's just say, you aren't the only furry in our friend group.” This makes him laugh again before finding a place to sit down. You take a seat beside him as he leans his head on your shoulder, “I’m sorry, Y/n.”
“For what exactly, Soonie?” You ask back wanting a better explanation than just a small sorry. He rolls his eyes before saying, “You already know why. For being immature and not dealing with things like an adult.”
“To be honest, none of us deal with things like adults. We're just the worst. I guess I’m sorry too.” you say back to him. The two sit comfortably in silence just relaxing in each other’s company. Why did we make things so hard for no reason? you wonder. That thought quickly goes away when you remember that the two of you are friends and you never want to ruin that, but your thoughts are interrupted, “I love you, Y/n. But I mean even if it's pretty obvious, I know I'm not very good at showing it.”
“But we're friends, Soon,” you say back before walking to the other side of the closet. You glance at his face for a second and see a bit of hurt in his eyes. Why am I still hiding how I feel? What’s the point of lying to myself and everyone else? You ask yourself before he breaks your thoughts once again, “Y/n, you say that, but then you're willing to fight with me for months because of the whole situation. Why are we just continuing to do this to each other?”
“I don't know, Soon. I really don't know,” you reply, overwhelmed, burying your face into your hands. He walks behind you and gives one of his famous, familiar back hugs to comfort you. You relax into the hug as he softly kisses your shoulder, “it's okay, Y/n. You don't need to have an answer right now. It's not wrong to want to take everything at your own pace. I just don't want to feel like I have to constantly avoid you because like you said, you are my best friend.“
“Are you trying to say ‘the power of friendship is so strong’ that we can get through things like this?” you sarcastically say as you laugh and lean into his arms. He giggles and replies, “That's exactly what I’m saying.” The two of you once again sit in silence. You take in everything from the moment you first saw Soonyoung as a small boy eating dirt in the playground to this exact moment You wonder when everything changed, “When did you realize you loved me, Soon?”
“There isn't an exact moment. I think just over time my love constantly grew for you. I didn't realize it at first and never really wanted to accept it because, well I'm pretty sure it's obvious why,” he responds. You feel the same way. You've always just told yourself it was because of that dance, but you know those feelings have always been there. More importantly, you know you've acted on those feelings before. “Why did you leave me after graduation? After I told you I love you?”
“Because I was stupid and a coward. I got jealous of Joshua, but then I started to think I wasn't as good as him. I wouldn't be good enough like him. I thought I wouldn't be able to make you happy like he would, ” he says honestly. You don't understand how he could ever think he wasn't good enough. You loved everything about the kid, from his weird tiger obsession to his incredible dance skills. “Soonie, you know I never believed you weren't good enough. And to be honest, Shua wasn't the greatest boyfriend. He was an amazing friend, but there's something off about knowing your boyfriend is denying his feelings for someone else”
“I guess that's how Seoyeon felt. It was just seeing you in the arms of a model like him brought up my insecurities I guess. I thought it would be too hard to compete. So I ran away because I didn't want to deal with the feelings, ” he explains still holding you in his arms. You feel how much bigger his arms got over the years and decide to ask him another question, “When did you start working out? Not that I'm complaining, but the last time Cheol asked you to work out with him you called him a loser and told him there's no reason to work out when you have a cute face.”
“Yes, my face is adorable, but I figured I'd just work out because why not. Also, Ji paid for a year's gym membership in China by accident,” he answers while softly laughing. The two of you continue to talk about random things for the next few hours without anyone interrupting you. You hear soft snoring on the other side of the door. Soonyoung quietly opens the door to not wake the sleeping person on the other side. You walk out to see Seungcheol and Wonwoo fast asleep on each other and quickly take a photo before sneaking away. You and Soonyoung decide to leave through the window to avoid questions or stares from anyone else. For the rest of the night, the two of you wonder who knows where and finally you feel happy to be with your best friend for once.

Contemporaneous - Chapter 1
Pairing: Atsumu x F!Reader
Summary: In which you are so incredibly lucky to exist at the same time as Atsumu Miya. Or, perhaps, it’s the exact opposite…
Words: 2.6k
Warnings: Swearing, inconsistent chronology (sorry I just liked it better that way), that’s about it so far
A/N: Okay, here’s ch. 1 finally! Mostly background, setting the stage, all that. Things will probably move quicker in upcoming chapters because I’m busy and have a hard time thinking of filler plot lol. Enjoy, please let me know what you think!
Prologue | Chapter 2
Tumblr media
All of your best memories were with the twins.
Not like that was a hard thing to accomplish—pretty much all of your memories were with the twins.
The good memories, the bad memories, and all the ones in between. They were the biggest constant in your life and you felt so lucky to have them.
Sometimes you got emotional about it, and they teased you for it, but you wouldn’t have it any other way.
“H-Hey, why are ya crying?” Atsumu had asked one time at fifteen when the three of you sat outside of the 24-hour convenience store near your house at 2 in the morning, each of you holding your own popsicles you’d snuck out to get.
“I just love you guys so much,” you said with a sniffle, wiping your nose on the cuff of your sleeve.
Osamu grimaced, looking down at you. “Y-Ya don’t have to get all emotional about it. We’re kind of stuck with ya.”
You frowned, giving him a light punch in the shoulder. “Just say you love me too, dummy,” you huffed.
His eyebrows knitted together. “We love you,” he sighed before wrapping an arm around you to give you a side-hug.
Atsumu wrapped his arm around you as well and gave you a grin. “Yeah, but please don’t cry anymore. It’s kinda embarrassing,” he laughed.
“Oh, shut up,” you whined, though you felt comfort flood through you at the feeling of being sandwiched between your two best friends. “You know I get sentimental when I’m tired.”
“Doesn’t make it any less embarrassing,” Osamu mumbled, but a smile played on his lips.
You hummed and closed your eyes for a moment. “Well get used to it, you’re not getting rid of me.”
Tumblr media
The twins were like your personal bodyguards. If someone messed with you, they messed with the Miya twins—and no one wanted to mess with the Miya twins. You first learned that when you were nine years old.
The air left your lungs, palms and knees scraping against the ground as you were pushed from the swing you’d been sitting on.
“You’re so lame!” one kid teased from behind you, shrill voice barely making its way to your ears as tears began to prick in your eyes.
“Yeah, where are your dumb friends? They must not like you if they aren’t even playing with you!” another said as the three kids who were picking on you moved to stand in front of where you still remained on your hands and knees, head hung in an attempt to hide the way you were crying.
Atsumu and Osamu had been punished for fighting during in class and the teacher made them stay inside for the first ten minutes of recess. You told them you’d wait for them by the swings; you didn’t really hang out with anyone else anyway. This group of kids didn’t like that though, telling you that the swings were their hangout spot during recess. You told them you’d leave after a couple minutes—you didn’t really want to just stand around and wait for the twins. What was the harm in swinging for a bit?
The harm was too great for the kids currently bullying you, apparently, and they decided to shove you off of the swings.
Your hands and knees burned from the scrapes you’d gotten, and you pushed your palms against your legs to try to make it stop stinging.
“Aww, are you crying?” the third kid laughed, and you looked up at them, face wet with tears.
“Oh my god, she is crying!”
A chorus of laughter sounded in front of you, making you cry even harder. Your face grew hot with embarrassment, tears leaving silvery streaks on your skin. And then suddenly, the figures of the three kids in front of you were shadowed as someone approached them from behind.
Two someones, in fact.
“Leave her alone,” Atsumu said, his voice causing a terror to run through the bullies in a way you didn’t think was possible for a nine-year-old.
The twins had a few bandages decorating their arms and faces, evidence of all the spats they got into with each other. But even after being kept in from recess they were already willing to fight again—just not with each other this time.
“You’re really pathetic,” Osamu continued, arms crossed over his chest as he gave the terrified kids an apathetic look.
“Yeah, get lost before I punch yer stupid face.” Atsumu stuck his tongue out, and somehow, the intimidation worked.
The bullies scurried off and Osamu helped pull you to your feet. “I’ll take ya to the nurse,” he offered, looking at the scrapes on your hands.
“And I’ll go beat them up,” Atsumu said, eyes still angry as he watched the kids run to the other side of the playground.
“No, it’s okay,” you sniffled, reaching up to wipe your eyes.
“Yeah, you’ll just get in trouble again, dummy,” Osamu reasoned with his twin.
Atsumu sighed and turned to you, shoulders slumping when he really took a good look at you. “’M sorry we weren’t here,” he said as the two of them started walking you back to the building so you could get your cuts cleaned up.
“‘S okay,” you said again.
“No it’s not! They’re dumb for picking on ya,” Atsumu argued. He let out an annoyed grunt when the three of you got inside. “Wish they’d get kept in from recess for being idiots…”
Tumblr media
Being a family friend also meant that you got along with the twins’ parents too—especially their mom. She treated you as if you were her own daughter, and sometimes she joked that she wished you were because the twins were so hard to handle.
You were so close with them that sometimes you would go over to their house even when you knew the twins were at volleyball practice.
When you were twelve, she’d decided you were probably old enough to watch one of the shows she enjoyed, and so you started going over to their house after school to watch TV dramas with their mom while you waited for them to come home from practice.
“Y/N,” Atsumu whined one day as soon as he saw the two of you. He hadn’t even taken his shoes off and he was already complaining. This was the fourth day in a row they came home to find you watching television with their mom. “What’re ya doing? Yer supposed to be our friend!”
“Shut up,” Osamu mumbled, taking his shoes off and removing his jacket. “You’re so embarrassing.”
Atsumu frowned, eyes going wide as if he was pleading with you to come hang out with them instead.
“‘Tsumu, you just got home. We’re almost done with this episode, and then I’ll come hang out!” you reasoned with him.
He huffed, finally reaching down to take off his shoes. “Sometimes I feel like ya like her more than me,” he grumbled, earning him a smack on the back of his head from his brother.
“Keep up the attitude and she will start liking Mom more,” Osamu hissed.
Tumblr media
You were always at their games. And when I say always, I mean always. You were the loudest member of the cheering section, and there were countless times when you didn’t even have the voice left to congratulate them on their victories.
One thing you never did, though, was boo them. They were your best friends—and you were close with the rest of the team too—so you never had the heart to boo them when they messed up.
Atsumu confronted you about it once when you were seventeen—they hadn’t even lost—after he’d had a tough game.
“Y/N,” he said, face stuck in a frown as he approached you.
You gave him a grin, wrapping your arms around him as you pulled him into a hug. “Congrats, ‘Tsumu!”
“Don’t congratulate me,” he hissed, stiffening in your hold.
You frowned and pulled away from him. “Why not? You won.”
“Because I sucked. You should have booed me.”
You rolled your eyes, waving a hand dismissively. “You’re so dramatic. Everyone messes up, ‘Tsumu. It’s not that big of a deal.”
“It was close! I could have cost us the match!” he argued.
Now it was your turn to frown at him. “So you botched a few serves, it’s not a big deal. Your sets were great. Besides, I’m not gonna boo my own team, Atsumu—” He grimaced at the sound of his full name. “—and I’m most certainly not going to boo you.”
“Losers don’t need applause.”
You scoffed. “You aren’t a loser! I swear sometimes you’re so hard on yourself for no reason. People have bad games. I’m not going to ridicule you for it.”
“You should!”
Your jaw clenched. You hated when he did this to himself.
“I deserve ta be booed, ta be yelled at, ta be told what a piece of trash I am because I almost screwed this up for us!”
“It’s not going to make you better, you dumbass!” you finally shouted, shoving his chest.
Atsumu stumbled backwards a few steps, heartrate increasing. He couldn’t tell whether it was from the adrenaline of the game, his disappointment in himself, or your actions. You’d never pushed him like that. Sure, you bickered and things of that nature, but this time you seemed genuinely angry.
“You’re one of the hardest working people I know and seeing you put yourself down like that when all you had was one bad set makes me want to punch you in the face!” Your heart was pounding, the sound deafening you as your hands clenched into fists at your sides. “I don’t give a shit about those people in the stands, they don’t really care about you. I’m your best friend! I’m not supposed to beat you down, I’m supposed to pick you back up!”
His mouth opened and closed a few times, words getting caught in his throat as he tried to gather his thoughts.
You pushed past him with a scowl. “I’m gonna go congratulate ‘Samu. Don’t talk to me until you’ve got your shit together.”
Osamu had been standing with Aran, Suna, and Kita by the entrance to the gym. They’d been chatting, but it had gotten cut short in favor of watching your interaction with the setter.
Osamu was in shock. He’d never seen you like that, which was saying something considering how long he’d known you, and it was kind of refreshing to see his brother get put in his place like that.
“That was kinda hot,” Suna said absentmindedly, eyebrows raised in amusement.
The gray-haired twin turned to glare at his friend. “Say that again and I’ll punch you.”
“Osamu,” Kita scolded.
“Sorry, Kita-san.”

Of course, with years and years of memories and friendship with the twins, you couldn’t help but think it was more than luck that brought you together. And even though you believed the three of you were fated to be together, as you got older something just felt different.
The summer before you started high school you had started to think that maybe you were fated to be more than just friends with Atsumu when feelings for him started to blossom. You tried to ignore them, far too shy and inexperienced in the ‘liking boys’ department to know how to deal with this new sensation.
You tried not to let it change your friendship with him, but there were times when you’d feel your face grow hot or your stomach flutter when you were around him.
At first, you didn’t like this feeling at all.
The twins had always been your comfort—your safe space. And now you were nervous to even be around Atsumu. But at the same time, all you wanted to do was be around him.
You hated it.
You hated the way you immediately perked up at the sound of them coming home when you should have been watching TV with their mom, now too distracted to even pay attention to the end of the show.
You hated the way you wanted to comfort Atsumu in a way that was so much more than friendly when he was beating himself up.
And you loathed the way you felt jealousy bubble in your veins at the thought of Atsumu liking someone else.
So you did your best to push the feelings away when you were around them.
But when you were alone, they all tumbled out, and you decided to take up journaling as an attempt to deal with the feelings. You felt embarrassed, as a teenage girl does, to have a journal filled with all of these thoughts, so whenever you were finished writing you hid it in your sock drawer lest one of the twins find it and tease you about it for weeks.
When you started high school and the twins joined the volleyball team, they were instant phenoms. And in turn, they garnered a lot of attention—especially from girls.
It upset you, if you were going to be honest with yourself. Not only because you couldn’t really hang out with your friends in the halls or during lunch without being interrupted by their gang of fan girls, but also because you despised the girls who flung themselves at Atsumu. It killed you to see them batting their long eyelashes and talking to your best friends with their cute voices, all while you sat to the side like some kind of unwanted piece of stale bread. And it especially killed you when Atsumu started returning their affections.
It scared you. It all scared you. The feelings, the girls, high school—you were terrified. You didn’t want to ruin things between the two—three—of you with your feelings, but the girls made you so insecure. So instead, you wrote in your journal.
You wrote down all of your feelings for three years.
You didn’t speak a word of them to anyone, no less the twins.
And there was a page you came back to almost every day, even though you had written it during your first year:
 The odds of existing are slim,
so the odds of you and I existing at the same time
must be next to impossible,
and I think that’s beautiful.
 Maybe the universe does work in my favor after all
because I got the chance to get to know you.
 You stared at the page, not even realizing tears were forming in your eyes until one fell and landed on your hand that pressed down on the page. It was a habit to hold it open, but it wasn’t even necessary anymore—you’d opened your journal to this page enough that it stayed open on its own.
When you’d written it, it was a happy thought. But now, three years later, it didn’t feel so happy. Atsumu was getting busier and busier with volleyball, and that meant he only got better, and when he got better his fanbase grew.
You were starting to feel like a second choice.
Scratch that, you were starting to feel like a tenth, twentieth, fiftieth choice.
You craved the attention he gave those girls. You wanted him to grin at you like that. You wanted to be more than just his best friend.
But you felt like you were running out of time.
It was ironic, considering you believed the universe brought the three of you together with the intention of you being side by side forever.
Maybe, after all this time believing it, you were finally starting to realize that you were wrong.

As you sat on the old metal swing, your tiny legs dangled in the air in the attempts to get some movement ,
“Hey Tooru, come push me on the swing!”
Oikawa sighed, stopping what he was doing to peer over his shoulder and glance at your struggling form,
“Y/N, can you push yourself please? i’m kinda busy.”
A pout formed on your face as you kicked your legs faster in frustration, whines leaving your lips at yet another failed attempt to propel yourself forwards,
“But Tooru, I always go so much higher when you push me.”
Oikawa continued to pat at the damp dirt with a shovel, trying his best to get you off his case so he could finish the task at hand,
“Why dont you ask Iwa-chan?”
Looking from the back of the boys head, your gaze wandered towards the lake where a certain spiky haired boy stood with his pant legs rolled up, skimming the water for creatures,
“But he went to go look for stick bugs over by the pond and that’s so far away.”
Oikawa should have guessed that his best friend would’ve wondered off in search of something so gross. Searching for bugs was his favorite thing to do at the park after all,
“I’ll push you later i promise, i have to finish this dirt castle first.”
You let out a huff and stuck your tounge out at him, pulling at the lower lid of your eye as you did so,
“Fine, you big meanie.”
Usually Oikawa and Iwaizumi would take turns pushing you in a contest to see who could get you higher. It wasn’t usually a request that bothered him, but he had been trying to build this stupid castle ever since the three of you arrived at the park and he didn’t have time to get interrupted by your pleas.
Despite his refusal, soon enough the squeaking sounds of the swing filled the air as you found a way to move yourself on your own. A smile came to Oikawa’s face as he peered back to watch you fly back and forth through the air, a grin evident on your face. He knew you could do it, you were just lazy when it came to things like that. Even so, he couldn’t help but feel that he was a bit harsh. You were just asking a favor after all, and he knew if he asked you to push him on the swing, you would comply without a complaint.
After a bit of pondering, he figured the dirt castle could wait. He’d have much more fun spending time with you and besides, Iwaizumi wouldnt let him hear the end of it if he let you play all by yourself. However, before he even made a move to get up from his current position, the jolt of the metal chains and a scream met his ears.
Snapping his head towards the direction of the noise, he watched as your tiny body was thrown to the ground a few feet away from where you sat prior. You had swung yourself so high that it had caused you to be ejected from the tiny swing. Sobs began to wrack your body as your brain caught up with your body and finally processed what had happened, letting the pain sink in.
Oikawa frantically rushed over and knealed by your side, trying to calm you down with soft hushes. His eyes scanned over your body, watching as blood began to trickle out of the tiny cuts on your arms and legs. Bruises began to form as you lied on the cool cement, still choking on sobs,
“Tooru, It hurts really bad.”
The way the syllables of your sentence were filled with sharp breaths caused fear to ripple through Oikawa. If he would’ve taken control and pushed you instead, you wouldn’t have gone as high as you did and gotten hurt. This was all his fault, so the least he could do was figure out a way to help you,
“I know, I know. Everything is gonna be okay, i’ll go get Iwa-chan!”
Your eyes widened at his statement, the last thing you wanted was for oikawa to go away, even for a second,
“No Tooru, don’t leave me alone, i’m scared.”
Oikawa watched as you looked at him with pleading eyes, but he didn’t know what else to do. He was just a little kid and with there being no adults around, the only thing he could think of was to go grab his best friend.
Oikawa gave you an apologetic glace before running towards the lake, leaving you all alone.
~~~
As he stood in the doorway of your bedroom, the way your body shook with sobs reminded him of that day. In fact, he hadn’t seen you cry this hard since and It broke his heart. Especially since the cause of your current pain wasn’t physical like it had been back then,
“Y/N?”
Your eyes widened at the sound of his voice, not expecting him to come seek you out.
Ever since your draining breakup, you didnt have the energy to even get out of bed, let alone answer your messages so it wasn’t unusual for people to worry. However, at that point you never even considered the fact that someone would go out of their way to come check up on you, but you should’ve expected a visit from oikawa with how close the two of you were. Hell, you knew better then anyone that he’d come running with a change in emotion over text so ghosting him for days on end was definitely a guarantee of his arrival.
Normally you would swipe at your tears and plaster a strained smile on your face but right now, you just wanted to cry. You didn’t have the energy to sit there and paint a pretty picture, you were heartbroken and there was no point in hiding it.
As you turned to peer at the figure in your doorway, your body began to move on it’s own. You maneuvered yourself out of the covers and begun to walk towards oikawa,
“Hey, are you oka-”
Before he could finish his sentence you wrapped your arms around his waist, burying your face into his chest. He immediately returned the hug, carefully running his fingers through your your hair.
Unbeknownst to you, Oikawa knew all about your breakup. You didn’t tell him or anyone for that matter, but the combination of you going mia and your prick of an ex posting up close and personal with a new person every other day was enough clues for him. He was furious to say the very least but you were his top priority at the moment. As you shook in his arms, he held you tight, silently letting you know that he wasn’t going anywhere.
He never did forgive himself after that day at the park. Even though it happened so long ago, he never forgot how hurt you look after he abandoned you on that playground. Any other person would’ve forgotten about it, deeming it a silly grudge between children. However, ever since that day, he promised himself he’d never leave you in your time of need again.
You bawled for what seemed like hours, until your cries turned into whimpers. Oikawa’s shirt had been dampened from your tears and his legs had grown close to numbness from how long he’d been standing, but he couldn’t care less. Once he felt your breath slow to its normal rate, he gently pulled you away from his embrace. Your eyes were red and puffy, cheeks stained with countless tears, but you still looked so lovely to him. He brought a hand up to cup your cheek as he shot you a warm smile,
“There you are,” he brushed away at a stray tear that fell down your face before continuing, “Do you wanna talk about it?”
You shook your head. There was no way you could possibly explain the pain you’d been put through without breaking down all over again, and that would be putting your best friend through more than you already had.
Oikawa didn’t push you any further, instead gently intertwining his fingers with yours and tugging you back towards your bed. You were confused at first, until he lightly pushed you down onto the bed. As soon as he did you felt the exhaustion from your breakdown wash over you, causing you to subconsciously curl into the covers below.
As your eyes began to flutter shut you felt the bed sink beside and glanced up to meet Oikawa’s eyes. He propped himself up with one arm as the other gently brushed stray hairs out of your face,
“You should get some rest Y/N-chan.”
You looked up at him with the same desperation that washed over your face all those years ago. He knew you were terrified that if you let yourself fall asleep, he would be gone by the time you woke up. He leaned down to place a kiss to the top of your head before resting his forehead against your own,
“I’m not going anywhere, i promise. It’s time to close your eyes now, okay?”
You hummed in agreement before snuggling into his warm figure.
Oikawa watched as your breaths slowed and your figure went slack against him. He knew that it would be a while before your broken heart healed, but he would be there to cheer you on every step of the way. He hoped that once all the broken pieces had been put back together, he could get the chance to love you the way you should’ve been loved from the start.
⚠️TRIGGER WARNINGS⚠️
RFA try to save their kidnapped child
Hey there, I know, this took ages to write but I finally did it. I hope that you are better by now and feel much better. I am sorry if I couldn’t reach out for you. Please DM me, I would like to support you, okay?
Tumblr media
Jumin
The only thing you could hear were voices from afar and a sniffing little voice next to you as darkness surrounded you.
What in the world just happened?
Suddenly, everything came back at you.
,,DADDY, MOMMY IS AWAKE!“ the snorting sound gasped, opening the door and letting the bright light come in again.
,,Mc!“ Jumin said before he entered the room a bit later, closing the door and turning on the light.
Luckily, it was a much dimmer light.
,,How are you, my love?“ he asked you.
You looked around as reality hit you. ,,Where is… my baby? Jumin, where is our son?“ you asked him.
Jumin stroked your head and began to tear up.
,,I know that this is hard on you, Mc, but you need to tell me what happened… My men are already working on finding him but… you need to tell me everything you remember…’’
And so you began to tell him how you walked hand in hand with your children and the bodyguards from the playground and how suddenly you heard the bodyguards yell.
,,Everything went by so fast… I took our daughter in one arm and grabbed our son to run away, but… someone grabbed him! And, I tried to pull him! I yelled for help but… I don’t know how, but I fell and he let go of my hand and… that’s all I remember…’’ you confessed, crying in your husbands arms.
,,We will find him, we will…’’
Days went by and no call came; no one who wanted money or anything.
But suddenly, a call arrived.
And so, you disappeared with a lot of money to the requested place on your own, leaving your daughter in Zen‘s care.
You didn’t even tell Jumin, who did his everything with his bodyguards.
But little did you know that Zen had already informed Seven, who continued to track you down and informed Jumin later on.
And indeed, when you arrived, Jumin and his bodyguards were already at the place, a few men in their care and a crying boy in his father’s arms.
,,My… baby!“ you hiccuped and jumped towards him, hugging him too.
,,I will never let anything happen to you again…!“
Jumin tightened the security and even found out that the kidnappers randomly decided to kidnap a kid, finding out later that they caught a rich kid.
Perhaps, a big mistake for their lives.
Zen
,,Hyun, don’t let her out of your sight,“ you warned him, stroking the head of the infant sleeping in your arms.
,,I won’t. I‘m her daddy,“ he whispered before kissing you and your sleeping daughter.
,,Princess, let‘s go to the mall!“ Zen said to your older daughter in a whisper as to not wake up the baby.
,,Why is mommy staying at home with the baby?“
,,Baby, she‘s staying at home with the baby,“ Zen corrected her and stroked her head.
,,Because your little sister has a fever and mommy needs to stay home to make her feel better,“ Zen explained.
The little girl accepted the explanation and walked happily together with her dad through the little street with the little shops on the side.
,,You didn‘t buy that much, Princess,“ Zen wondered after carrying four full bags of clothes, toys, chocolate, and decorating stuff for you.
,,Daddy! Mommy said a little!“ she lectured him.
Suddenly, a few girls began to yell and apparently spotted Zen, who became pretty famous in the last few years.
,,Seri-ah, stay with Daddy, okay?“ Zen told the little girl who nodded.
However, more and more fans arrived and saw Zen, which led to chaos.
,,Daddy! Daddy!” The girl screamed suddenly.
Zen’s heart was shattering when he saw how someone had his daughter on his back, carrying her away from him while she was trying to get off.
,,LET ME GO! MOVE! MOVE! MY DAUGHTER IS GETTING KIDNAPPED!’’ he cried and screamed into the crowd, trying to get away from the fans.
However, his screams got overturned by the fans and they stopped him from saving his daughter.
,,Mr Ryu, I need you to work with us,’’ the officer said to Zen, who was sitting on the cold ground.
The stuff his daughter bought all over the floor, broken, and ready to go to the trash after people stepped on it.
He was in a trance.
Only your voice could make him look up.
,,Mc… I’m sorry,’’ he sobbed and jumped up, hugging you.
Like a little baby, he cried into your chest as you let your tears fall onto his white hair.
Days went by and no one called.
Zen was getting questioned increasingly by the day, but it never led to anything.
,,I can’t wait any longer,’’ he hissed, one day.
The RFA was currently at his house, Seven sitting at the table, trying to figure out where that man came from.
,,You don’t have to,’’ he said suddenly.
That’s how it began.
Instead of telling the police, Seven, Zen, and Yoosung went to where the GPS led them. With the help of Jumin’s closest bodyguards, they stormed the place.
,,Whatever your reason was,’’ Zen said while he was holding his bloody daughter, ,,as of today, you will regret ever thinking of harming her,’’ he whispered, handing Yoosung his weak daughter and beginning to torture the man who almost killed his daughter.
Yoosung
,,DADDY!’’ the blond man heard, jumping up from the couch and panting.
Cold sweat was dripping down his forehead.
A short glance over to your hospital bed showed him that you were still sleeping.
It was no wonder that after getting beaten up, everyone would sleep that long.
Slowly, without making a sound, Yoosung got up and stepped out of the white room, which was making him crazy.
Just when he closed the door, his phone rang in his pocket, making him fumble the gadget out as quickly as possible.
It was either the police or Seven, and no matter who it was, one of them had good or bad news about the whereabouts of his daughter.
,,Seven,’’ Yoosung said firmly over the phone.
,,I found her. Come out right now. I will pick you up and we will save her, but don’t tell Mc,’’ Seven shortly said and cut the call.
Of course Yoosung didn’t lose any time on going out of the hospital and running up and down in the parking lot where his red haired friend picked him up in one of his cars.
,,Take this and wear this,’’ he said, handing him a gun and bulletproof jacket.
Yoosung was prepared for the worst and just accepted the equipment.
A few moments later, which seemed like an eternity to him, they arrived.
,,The CCTV says that they’re here,’’ Seven showed him on a map of the building.
,,We will enter from down here,’’ he showed him the place, ,,and move this way,’’ he went on, making Yoosung follow his finger with his eyes.
And so they went. Not losing a single moment, both of them walked the way they agreed on.
,,Daddy… daddy….’’ he heard a faint voice sobbing.
The little voice he missed so much, was filled with pain. The single thought about her being in pain made his blood boil.
,,Wait till we have her and then you can shoot as much as you want,’’ Seven said, throwing something into the crowd and fetching the girl as quickly as possible.
,,Assholes,’’ Yoosung said, his violet eyes filled with hate as he hit the man once again and shot at him a third time.
,,Hope you survive with the pain,’’ he said and vanished with Seven from the bloody place, his daughter now in his arms.
Jaehee
,,I’m sorry, Mc. I couldn’t save him,’’ Jaehee said at your grave.
The last thing you begged of her was to save your son before you died in the hospital due to the injuries the kidnappers gave you.
However, Jaehee couldn’t save either you or her son.
Instead, both of you died right in front of her eyes. What did life matter anymore?’’
With this question, she sat down on your grave, her back leaned against your stone while she looked up to your smiling picture.
The last time you smiled went through her head.
How you begged her to save him, her son, and how much you cried the day he was pulled out of your embrace.
Just a few moments earlier, you guys were laughing in the shop, when men in black barged in, shooting in your coffee shop and yelling for money.
Of course, just as every mother would do, you tried to cover your son with your body while she gathered the money out of the cash drawer.
However, life never went like Jaehee wished and the men shot you.
The last thing Jaehee saw was then your bloody body over your crying son, who got pulled away from you and disappeared.
A few days later, when she finally got the call, the day she left you to go and catch your happiness again, just to see him dying in front of her.
Blood over his face, Jaehee couldn’t recognize him anymore if it wasn’t for his tiny voice begging her to run.
,,Baby… Mommy is here…’’ she whispered, stepping closer to the boy hanging.
,,Run-’’ he begged.
A loud bang followed and his last scream was when everything turned even redder and darker.
,,Jaehee-’’ you gasped when you saw her entering your room with his dead body.
It was the last time she ever heard you before you died from a heart attack.
,,I killed you both,’’ Jaehee cried and held the gun at her temple.
,,At least, I will kill myself too now…’’ she sobbed louder.
The loud gunshot was almost a little noise below the pouring rain as blood dropped on the green grass surrounding your grave.
Saeyoung
The fight was supposed to be over, he thought as he watched your lifeless figure on the bed.
The only thing that reminded him that you were alive were the sobs which left your mouth.
Nothing more.
You hadn’t eaten in days and you never got up either.
Saeyoung knew the next person he would lose would be you.
Suddenly Saeran called him, making him turn around in the big room and approach his brother who was sitting in front of a balck computer.
,,I think I got something. Let’s go and check it out,’’ he whispered.
Saeyoung was about to lose hope, but this last chance made his cold heart grow warmer.
Without telling you anything, he left, ready to fight once again. His father, the man who tried to once again destroy his happiness.
,,You guys finally arrived,’’ the white haired man laughed, him sitting on the chair, the lifeless body of his daughter on his lap.
,,You asshole. If she’s dead, I will-’’
,,Then do it,’’ he laughed, throwing her into the middle of the room as if she was an old bag.
,,You arrived too late,’’ he began.
,,You guys should have let the story die. If you would have done it like that, she would have survived,’’ he said while Saeyoung was still looking at her.
The face, which he only knew with a smile implanted on was pale and as white as the wall.
,,What did you do…?’’ he asked him, hate, despair and sadness in Saeyoung’s voice.
,,I played with her, just like a grand-’’
Saeyoung didn’t let him end his sentence and shot him there where he was the most vulnerable.
,,Asshole, you will go through much worse pain,’’ he hissed. Not even Saeran could recognize his brother while he began to beat up the man who killed his daughter and probably would make you die too...
Here, my dear, is the sum of the fic as it exists in its 9k glory. Fun fact Edgeworth's pov is 11k so far. Omegaverse au - Wrightworth. Currently Teen and Up rating.
“Why do you two insist on doing that?”
“Cause it’s fun!” Larry laughed above him, rolling off of him and onto the playgrounds woodchips when he pushed him.
Miles slid off the jungle gym he’d been observing them from. Offered his hand to help him up.
He took it and let him pull him up. “It is! You should try it!”
“No thank you.” Miles swept his hands over Phoenix’s shirt, dislodging some of the dirt. Not that it made a huge difference. It was just a t-shirt after all.
“Come on Edgey!” Larry wrapped an arm around his neck, leaning heavily on him. “I’ll even go easy on you if you want! Or are you just scared you’ll mess up your fancy clothes?”
His cheeks flushed red as he stammered out a protest, picking a chip from Larry’s hair. “I just don’t see the point of rolling in the dirt!”
Larry laughed. Crowed like a chicken, grinning as Miles face grew hotter and hotter. He never knew if Miles would cry or get angry. He wasn’t sure if Miles knew either right until the moment the emotion burst from him.
So he did what any reasonable nine year old would do: tackled Larry to the ground. “You’re upsetting him!” Larry just laughed as they twisted and wrestled, having achieved exactly what he wanted.
Larry pinned him again- it was unfair how much better at this Larry was. He wiggled and tried to dislodge him but Larry remained firmly atop his stomach, grinning.
He sighed and dropped his head back. Another loss to Larry Butz. Miles was staring at him from his playground perch. A goofy smile started on his face.
Miles tilted his head just a hair smiled, one of his tiny rare smiles, right back.
It didn’t feel quite so much like losing then.
“First!” Larry posed his hands on hips and puffed out his chest. “We’re going to build a pillow fort!”
Miles held the remote, not turning the television on yet but clearly posed to if Larry responded poorly. “Why?”
“Because I have it on good authority this movie’s real scary!” Half his mouth pulled upward in pride at his secret knowledge. He jabbed a finger at Phoenix. “And we don’t want the scaredy cat making us go home early!”
“Hey!”
Miles set the remote carefully down on the table and nodded. “Alright. What do we do?”
At Larry’s direction, they made one. It was remarkably well made and comfortable inside. They laid on the carpeted floor on top of a blanket and pillows and peered up at the screen from under the fabric canopy.
Larry and him yelped and jumped back into the fort. Clinging to each other. Listening to the clashing of swords and tense music.
Miles stayed. Eye’s trained on the screen.
He inched forward. Larry clung to him, eyes squeezed tight. He didn’t move far enough to see the screen. "Are they winning?” He whispered weakly.
Miles face was tense but unwavering. “No.” He did not look away. He squeezed the pillow tighter against his chest. “They’re not.”
He reached out and took one of Miles clenched hands in his. It was shaking. He squeezed it. “Not yet.”
Miles squeezed back. “Not yet.”
Miles was more than happy to outline the entire fight in dramatic hand motion for them once the movie was over.
“Bedtime boys.”
“Okay Mom!”
Larry climbed out of the fort and stretched his arms up into the air. He followed after.
Miles didn’t follow them out. “Can we sleep in here tonight?”
“You scared Edgey?” Larry grinned sleepily.
“No.” It wasn’t the sharp no that really meant yeah. It was just a no. “It’s just. Nice.” His cheeks flushed.
“We could drag one of the futons in and sleep on that!” He proposed.
“Yeah.” Larry yawned. “Okay.”
It was way too small for the three of them. Mostly cause Larry spread out like a starfish and took up half the bed.
Miles curled up on the opposite side, his back pressed into the couch. Rubbed his cheek against the soft fleece blanket.
Phoenix flopped down next to him, sharing the same un-Larry filled third. “I don’t want Larry to kick me again.” He explained, hoping Miles wasn’t annoyed at how close they were. Their hands were almost touching.
He just made a happy noise and sank heavy into the pillow.
It was nice in here.
The first boom of thunder had him jumping out of his skin.
The second and he was running back into the building.
He did not like Thunder. Hated how loud it was and how it rumbled and it – it – it.
It was scary.
“Phoenix!” His wrist was trapped in Miles firm grip. Yanking him to a halt. “Where are you going?”
He couldn’t swallow the yelp at the next boom or the way his shoulders drew up to his ears while he desperately covered them.
He held his breath. Unable to breath in or out.
Miles tugged him forward. Pulled him down onto one of the library’s bean bag chairs shoved into the corner of the kids section.
He pulled his knees to his chest and pressed his hands tighter against his skull.
The chair shifted as Miles curled up next to him, shoulder to shoulder.
“Um. We can wait here until it stops. I don’t think my umbrella would work right now anyway.”
He nodded into his knees and tried to hide the tears that were escaping.
“Do you…” The fabric of Miles jacket shifted over his arm. “Want a hug?”
He nodded. An arm wrapped around his back and squeezed his shoulder.
He twisted and buried his face in Miles shoulder. Clinging to the soft cotton of his buttoned shirt. Trying to swallow the sobs.
He really didn’t like thunderstorms.
Miles hands slowly came up and held him. Cradling him to his chest.
He choked on a wobbly inhale and cuddled in tighter.
“Do you want me to read something?” One hand disappeared and the zipper of his bag sounded.
“S-sure.”
Miles read quietly to him, chin hooked over his shoulder. The soft cadence of his voice easing the mountain of tension from his shoulders. He snuffled trying to keep his nose from running. Miles just handed him a tissue without pausing.
His nose honked loudly when he blew it and that did make Miles pause to glare at him. He just smiled sheepishly in return.
He didn’t need to stay in Miles lap. He should probably get up and move next to him. But he didn’t want to. And Miles didn’t ask him to. Hummed warmly when he tucked his head back into his shoulder.
“You smell nice.” He nuzzled against the collar of his shirt and the bowtie there.
He did. He couldn’t put his finger on what he smelled like but it felt the same way blankets pulled warm from a dryer did. Warm. Comforting. Soothing.
The pounding rain and even the occasional boom of thunder was muted by that gentle warmth wrapped around him
He didn’t even notice when he drifted off to sleep.
Not until a librarian was shaking them awake a while later, worry and amusement lining the soft lines her face.
“Mmghn.” He moved the horsy again. “Can we do something else?”
“Like what?” Miles moved the castle.
Rain beat against the window. Rattling it. He moved a pawn. What a waste of their day off. Trapped inside by a storm.
He bet Larry was having fun. Or maybe he was just trapped in a hotel room with the rest of his family.
He flopped back on the bed. He heard the pieces rattle. Miles made an annoyed sound so some of them must have fallen. “I don’t know.”
He grumbled and picked the board up. Set it on his desk. “You didn’t have a better idea!”
“I didn’t think chess would be boring! You made it sound fun!”
“It is fun.”
He put his hands behind his head and stared up at the ceiling. It didn’t seem that fun to him. “We could play signal samurai?”
“Without Larry?”
He had a point.
“Your Game Boy?”
“The batteries are just as dead as the last time you asked.” He crossed his arms and frowned at the window. “And we’re not going out for replacements in this.”
“Courthouse?”
“Still a person short. Who would we defend?”
“Uh… Rescue?”
Miles shook his head. “All our games are for three people.”
He sat up. “I don’t see you suggesting anything!”
“I suggested chess but you don’t want to play that!”
“… Then if I suggest a two person game you’ll try it? Even if you don’t think you’ll like it? Cause I tried chess!” He pointed out.
Miles narrowed his eyes. “… Fine.”
He grinned and jumped to the edge of the bed. “Great! Then we’re wrestling!”
“What?! No!”
“You said you’d try it!”
“But- But…” His eyes flickered around the room. To the floor. “We’ll get hurt on the wood.”
“We’ll play on the bed!”
“We’ll hit the wall! Fall!”
He looked back at it. “We can put cushions up!” Miles stared down at the floor. Sour expression. “Come on! You promised you’d try.”
That got him a glare. “I didn’t promise.” The scowl deepened. “Fine.”
He’d stalked out of the room before he realized Miles had agreed.
He dashed after him.
Miles pulled the cushions off the couch and some spare blankets from a closet. Shoved them into his hands and grabbed some more.
Miles frowned when they reentered the room. Climbed up on the bed and shoved the cushions between the wall. Took the blankets and bunched them out on the edges of the bed. Shoved the pillows against the headboard. Sat in the center of the bed considering it.
“Good enough?”
His scowl deepened but he didn’t rearrange anything.
“Good enough!” He decided, tackling Miles.
It got him a yelp. Miles wiggled in his grip and they twisted and rolled on the bed until he let Miles pin him.
He grinned up. Miles sat on his heels and huffed. “There. I win?”
Miles hair was all rumpled and out of place. He was always so careful about his appearance. It was nice to see him rumpled.
His smile just got bigger. “Sure. You win.” Nodded. “Round one.”
He lunged upward and flipped Miles onto his back.
Miles blinked up at him. He pressed down on his shoulders waiting for Miles to try and throw him off.
Miles stared at him. Reached up and-
Rearranged his hair. Carded through his spikes.
“Your hair got messed up.”
That wasn’t how this game was supposed to go.
But…
He leaned into the motion. A purr starting.
He drifted so far into the motion he fell over. Off to the side.
Miles propped himself on his elbow. Staring at him.
“Does that mean I win again?”
“I pinned you!”
He stifled a yawn. “Tie game then?”
“Okay.” He looked at the spare blankets on the side and the raised sides the couch cushions made. “Wanna build a fort?”
Miles eyes lit up almost like they did when he talked about law.
He dragged one of the blankets up and shoved one end behind the cushion, making a little triangle tent. Larry would have made something better. He knew how to make the best pillow forts.
Miles eyes shone. He stared up at the fuzzy ceiling. Reached up and pet the fleece. His chest didn’t rumble but it stuttered a quite purr.
Miles liked it. He did good.
His chest swelled with happy. His purr making him unsteady with its unintentional volume.
Miles was staring at him and his face was heating up but it wouldn’t stop. He covered his face with his hands.
“Do you… want to read?”
He nodded. Listened to Miles shuffle out. Come back with a stack of books. He grabbed one off the top and buried his face in it.
Miles scooted next to him. Shoulder to shoulder. Opened up a large tome.
A few chapters later there was a heavy weight on his shoulder. Miles. Sleeping. Small contented noises escaping.
He rested his cheek on the crown of his head. Miles smelled nice.
He closed his eyes to the sound of beating rain and Miles soft breathing.
Blinked blearily awake to Mr. Edgeworth’s soft chuckling. “Time to eat boys.”
He rubbed the sleep from his eyes and they climbed out together.
And then Miles was gone.
He showed Larry the heart shaped necklace. Recounted the entire tale with waving hands and hearts in his eyes. They were Soulmates. Maybe even True mates. Fairy tale or not - he just landed in one.
“Sounds like one hella cute omega.” Larry grinned up at him.
“Hey!” He smacked his shoulder. “I didn’t say she was an omega!”
Larry snorted and rolled onto his back. Stinking up his bed with his stupid alpha scent. “You alwaysfall for omegas Nicky.”
“No I don’t!”
“Yeah you do! Your nose is just too shit to realize!”
He growled. “My nose is not shit!”
Larry sat up. Pointed at him. “Twenty bucks says she’s an omega just like every other chick you’ve had a crush on.”
“Hey you can’t prove that!”
He started listing off names. His face heated.
Pointed his objection. “Racheal wasn’t an omega!”
“Dude. Bro. My man.” Larry clapped his shoulder. Eyes pitying. “She totally was. She just used a shit ton of blockers. An omega gives you the time of day and you’re done. You’ve always been like that.”
“Oh yeah?” He was three seconds from yanking him to the floor for a tousle on the rug.
“Yeah. Even before we presented. I mean, Lucy, Lucia, Matilda, Samantha-”
“Stop!” He shoved his face into his knees and covered his ears. “Lucy transferred! That one’s not even fair!”
He laughed that annoying Larry laugh. “She was totally going to present as an omega dude!”
“You can’t just assume!”
“It was so obvious though. She was an omega, we were going to be alphas. It was practically carved into grade school stone.”
“You can’t tell until someone presents. You’re not a doctor Larry.” You weren’t even a high school grad.
“PFT. You know for someone so smart you’re really dumb sometimes.” Larry kicked his leg. “You don’t present out of nowhere. Those instincts are always there. You’re just too dumb to look.”
“I’m not dumb!”
“Twenty bucks your girlfriends an omega!”
“You’re on!”
He smacked the twenty into Larry’s waiting hand. “Shut up.” He growled. “It’s not like you’re any better.”
He smirked. Waving the bill and shaking his head. “Unlike you, my hearts not so fickle as to limit itself to omegas. Any beautiful lady can steal my heart!”
Yeah that sure seems true. You tried to date every girl in our high school class.
“Why I’ll have you know Clary is an Alpha! She pinned me last week and I’ve never been more in love!” His eyes filled with tears. “We’re gonna be together forever!”
“Sure Larry. Sure.”
“You swallowed glass?”
He curled into his bed and pillow. There were still whiffs of her left.
She’d tried to kill him. She said she hated him.
Why do you think she’s actually been dating you all this time?
“Shut up Larry.”
“You wanna fight? I mean you have to be pissed right?”
He pressed the pillow harder to his face.
“… Yeah alright.” The bed creaked and Warmth pressed into his back as Larry laid down behind him. “Glad you didn’t die bro. I always knew that omega was shit.”
“Did you?”
Come on Wright. It’s obvious she’s just using you. You were just the perfect rube.
An arm wrapped around his waist. Larry’s head pressed against the back of his neck.
“… Nah man. She always seemed really nice.”
By the time Edgeworth joined them for the celebratory party Larry was already several drinks ahead of everyone else. Edgeworth eyed him worriedly.
“Come on.” He slid his beer over to Edgeworth and aimed for a reassuring smile. “You’re a free man now. You could stand to relax and enjoy it a little.”
He slowly reached out and took the drink. Cheeks still flush from the December air outside. “Right.”
He grinned and it felt very silly in his cheeks. That only made him grin more. Scooting closer to him at the bar. “That’s my name!”
Edgeworth’s sharp eyes glared at him over the rim of the glass. “How many have you had Wright?”
He drifted closer. Elbow supporting him on the bar as he gazed upward at Miles. At his eyes that liked to hide behind his bangs. One of the ceiling lamps haloed his hair and made it shine. “Not that many.”
Miles didn’t pull away. Didn’t shove him away. Just stared right back. Like a painting. The amber liquid held in his hand. Maybe he could pull out those old paintbrushes and capture the image forever.
“Edgey!” Larry’s arms wrapped around Miles neck. Yanking him slightly off kilter. The beer sloshed in his glass. “There you are! We’ve been waiting for you!”
A tiny rumble of annoyance escaped the prosecutor. He shoved Larry slightly, elbowing him. “That’s a blatant lie.”
“Haha yeah. But you know I saved you yesterday so I think you owe me!”
“I think you’re more than adequately intoxicated.”
“I’m fine!” He whined, nuzzling against the increasingly irate Miles. “No fair Edgey, help a brother out!”
“You’re more than capable of making a spectacle of yourself without my help Larry.”
Larry stopped rubbing his face against Miles suit jacket, brow drawn together in a brief moment of something. Which was good because he knew firsthand how irritating that felt. Stupid facial hair. He was half tempted to yank Larry off him just for the sake of keeping the peace.
He reached over to do exactly that. “He said no Larry, come on.” He really needed to learn boundaries. Like don’t touch Miles.
He wanted to growl it.
Larry tightened his grip and hooked his chin over Miles shoulder. Eyes unfocused and staring at the bar wall.
“Yeah yeah fine. You can repay me by drive me home then.”
Miles shoulders drew up. “If you think I’m letting you into my car-“
Larry whispered right into his ear. Over the drone of the bar he couldn’t make it out.
His shoulders tensed impossibly tighter. His face turned further away. Considering Larry. The soft pink flush of his cheeks draining away.
The glass connected harshly with the bar and he stood. Larry sticking like a leach to his back. “Fine.”
“Wha” He stood just as suddenly. Reaching out to grab his sleeve. “But you just got here!” His hand wrapping around Mile’s wrist. “Just call him a cab!”
Miles stared at the point of connection. His hand wrapped around his wrist. For one heartbeat.
Two.
Three.
“Edgey…”
He pulled his wrist free. Rubbing it with his free hand. He hadn’t been holding it that tightly. He didn’t look at Phoenix. “He’ll just get into more trouble if we do that. Excuse us.” He bowed slightly, which seemed difficult to do with Larry the leach and turned. Walked out of the bar.
He took the discarded drink back and grumbled. It wasn’t fair of Larry to kidnap Miles like that.
He paused halfway through an irritated sip to wonder when Edgeworth had become Miles again.
He couldn’t find his suit jacket before he biked after Maya. It was probably just hidden somewhere under the piles of cans and take out containers strewn about the office. He was in a rush. He didn’t have time to look.
It was weirder that it didn’t show up after he’d finished cleaning.
… Well hopefully he wouldn’t need to go to court until it turned up. He didn’t need to add a new jacket to his expenses.
It showed up a week later in the arms of a faux apologetic Larry.
He snatched it back. “I was THIS close to buying a new one Larry! Of course it was you. It’s always you!”
“Hey man that hurts! And I swear it was for a good cause!”
“Oh yeah? And what was that?”
Larry looked away. Rubbed the back of his head. “Uhhh. To help out a friend.” Sure Larry.
“Which friend?’
His eyes stayed trained on the wall. Sweat starting. “You don’t know em.” He lied. Like a liar.
“And how did my jacket help them?”
“That’s not important.”
He growled. “Larry…
“Anyway! It’s been dry cleaned so you’re not even allowed to get mad! It’s totally fine!”
“I should be getting mad!?” What the hell did you do to my suit jacket?!
“NO!”
He tackled him. Pinning him to the ground. “Larry-”
Was pinned to the ground a moment later. Larry’s weight distributed so efficiently he could hardly wiggle. Arms held firmly to the floor above him.
“Why are you still so much better at this than me?!” He demanded trying to break free.
He grinned that stupid guileless grin. “I win. So now you have to forgive me!”
“Tell me what I’m forgiving you for!”
“Taking your jacket. Obviously.”
“WHY!?” He crunched. Arms lifting an inch off the ground. Larry’s balance shifted slightly and-
He was pinned back to the ground.
“Nuh uh. Losers don’t get to make demands.” Shook his head. “It was for a good cause Nicky. I swear. Your sacrifice really helped out a friend in need.”
“…” He let the tension drain from his arms. “You’re not lying to me?”
Larry let his wrists go and leaned back on his heels. Crossed his heart with his hands. “Edgey boy levels of honesty.” He smiled. Sleeves slipping over his hands. “Besides I smelled that thing when I took it. You should be thanking me. I’m the reason it finally got cleaned!”
He lunged upward for round two.
Every time Ema and him entered Edgeworth’s office he felt a little more trapped. On edge. Desperate. Like he needed to do something. Fight someone. Not Edgeworth. Never Edgeworth. But someone.
Edgeworth he wanted to pin to the ground. Squish into the pink sofa until all the pain left him. Until he was asleep and content in his arms. Until things were all right again.
This case just kept getting worse and worse for him.
“Mr. Wright…” They waited for the elevator. She worried a shape into the pad of her notebook. “Is Mr. Edgeworth going to be alright?”
A letter of resignation.
“His office. It just smelled so…”
Larry said he had a bad nose. Maybe if he had a good one he’d be able to identify what it was.
His gut was a tight ball. His hands clenched in his pockets.
Just because he couldn’t smell it didn’t mean he didn’t feel it.
“Let’s just focus on the case for now.”
“R-right.”
A note on a desk.
“No.” No. He spun around- ready to lash out. To draw blood. This room- this room-
Gumshoe pulled him into his coat and arms. “I’m sorry pal.”
“No.” His fingers dug into the older Alpha’s shirt. Nails pulling the fabric apart at the seams. “No. I was supposed to save him.”
Gumshoes arms held him tighter. Chest roaring with the mountain of distress. “That’s not how it works pal.”
He buried his tears into Detective Gumshoe’s painful purr.
Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth chooses death.
“Nick.”
He didn’t need a good nose to know she was upset.
He wrapped his arms around her. Rubbed his cheek against the base of her neck. She pressed her head up into his hair.
“It’s going to be okay Maya. I got this.”
A high pitched noise. “I knew you were special someone’s!”
Maya pulled away, turning to Pearl. “Pearly that’s not!”
“It’s really not.” Way to make this weird.
“It’s time.” A bailiff told them.
“Come on. We’ve got this.”
Franziska didn’t even have the politeness to pretend to apply scent blockers. No. She let her Alpha rage roll off her like ocean waves.
The courtroom isn’t your personal battlefield Von Karma.
Grow up or Get out.
Honestly, she was just making the rest of them look bad. Playing into every angry alpha stereotype.
Of course she had a whip. Of course. Wasn’t that just perfect?
Maya was gone. Maya was gone.
In the hands of an assassin.
He coated on scent blocker. Closed his shaking hands into fists and did what needed to be done.
Go get Matt Engarde a full acquittal.
How dare you come back. How dare you.
“Franziska-” Edgeworth reached out his hand to her. She watched it. Flinched away.
No blockers meant even he could read her.
Anger. Anger and distress. Distress.
Edgeworth wanted to comfort her.
She snatched the tulips from his hands. “I think visiting hours are over.” Retreated.
Edgeworth’s hand stayed aloft for a moment more. Fell.
“Wright. Tell me what’s going on. You clearly didn’t want trial to be adjourned today.”
“Wright.” He jolted. Head jerking to Edgeworth. What was?
“What are you doing here? You left… hours ago.”
He was collapsed in a chair. Pearl, sleeping between his lap and a second chair pulled up next to him. He wanted to look at Edgeworth but his eyes kept drifting back to Maya. Where she and Larry and Lotta and Gumshoe were dancing across the Gatewater floor.
“Yes. I… Managed to catch up with Franziska. Thank you for giving me her whip.”
“Oh that’s…” This thumb drew small circles on Pearl’s shoulder. Maya beamed as Larry twirled her. Safe. Safe. They were safe. “Good.”
“Wright.” There was a hand on his shoulder. He should jerk away from it or lean into it or something. But all he could do was watch Maya. “My room’s a double.”
“Good for you.”
The hand stayed for a few moments more. “I’ll tell Maya it’s time for bed.” The hand went away. His shoulder was cold.
He kept drawing little circles on Pearl’s shoulder.
Edgeworth moved out into the small cluster of people. Maya grinned and grabbed his hand. Spinning around him with that brilliantly bright smile of hers.
Edgeworth let her but he could see his mouth moving. Maya looked over to him. Waved. His arms were leaden exhaustion but he raised one to weakly wave back anyway.
She turned back to Edgeworth. Spoke animatedly. Punched him in the shoulder.
Began skipping over. Edgeworth slowly trailing behind.
“Nick! Guess what!”
“Hm?”
“Edgeworth said we can stay in his room! We get to stay here! In the crazy nice hotel!”
“The office is literally next door.”
“A mattress! With like thousand count sheets! Instead of that busted old couch! Come on Nick!”
“The couch isn’t busted.” Edgeworth leaned down to touch Pearl- pick her up probably.
He growled.
Maya’s eyes went wide. He covered his bared teeth. Edgeworth stopped and watched him.
“Sorry.”
Miles levered himself back to standing. Pushing up on his knees. “Come on Wright. Time for bed.”
The bags under his eyes had a physical weight to them. He tried to pick Pearl up without waking her. She made a small sound and cuddled into his shoulder. Dragged his body upward. To standing.
Maya tucked herself into his side. He put his arm around her shoulder. Tried not to make obvious how much he was leaning on her for support.
Edgeworth held open the door for them. Maya barreled in. Belly flopping onto the mattress. Rubbing her face all over the blankets as she rolled in them.
“Nick these are SO nice!”
The door closed behind Edgeworth. He heard the lock softly click. Watched Edgeworth slide the gold door chain lock into place. Step back. He stared at the lock for a few moments more.
Was that really enough? What if someone came in and took Maya again? Or Pearl this time? That tiny chain wouldn’t stop anyone. There had to be something more he could do-
“Wright.” Edgeworth. “We can put a chair in front, if it would make you feel better.”
Stupid Alpha. It’s fine.
He nodded anyway.
“AH HA!” Maya triumphantly announced. “The nest is done! Give me Pearly Nick!”
She’d already rearranged the blankets and pillows into a small nest pressed against the headboard. He walked over and handed Pearl, who blinked awake briefly as they passed her, over the fabric walls of the nest.
Maya curled around her. Wrapping Pearl up in her scent. Safe. They were safe.
Edgeworth jammed the door with a chair. He paced the outline of the room. Listened to Maya and Pearl purr.
Safe. They were safe.
The water turned on briefly in the bathroom. The purring began to stutter and fault as they fell asleep.
He paced the length of the room.
The bathroom door opened. Edgeworth stepped out in a set of pink pajamas. Neck bare. Some other night he would have enjoyed that.
“You’re going to wear a tread into the carpet.” He warned. Watching him pace. Back and forth. “Either get in the nest with them or lay down.”
“I can’t.” I have to protect them.
Stupid stupid alpha. They’re fine.
“Wright.” Edgeworth cut his path off. A hand pressing into his chest. “Your pack is safe. Close your eyes and breathe in.” He ordered.
He resisted. For a moment. Edgeworth’s face, as hard as always, did not waver.
He closed his eyes and breathed.
Maya. Pearl. Contentment.
Safe.
He fell forward into Edgeworth. The man effortlessly supported his weight.
It was faint under the fresh change of clothes and whatever blocker it was he used. But it was still there. That scent like warm blankets fresh from the dryer.
“At least get in the bed before you collapse on me.” He complained, maneuvering them to the spare bed.
“I’m still mad at you.” He mumbled into his shoulder. They flopped down onto covers. He stayed half on top. One leg slotted between Miles’. Nose pressed to his beautifully bare neck.
“Save that for tomorrow morning.” A hand was carding through his hair. A quiet rumble pushing up through Miles chest into his. “For now, just rest.”
Finally. He slept.
He woke up alone. Well. Not alone. Maya and Pearl slept on in the bed next to him. But Edgeworth was gone.
He listened to the shower run.
Here. Not totally gone.
He burrowed further into the blankets and tried not to growl.
Couldn’t even let me have this Edgeworth? Couldn’t even let me have one morning where I wake up with you in my arms and knew for sure that you’re safe and alive?
He buried his face in the stupid pillows. Chased after that barely there scent.
Asshole.
The second time he woke up the room smelled like breakfast. To Maya jumping right onto him.
“Breakfast! Room service! Nick!”
“Ooof!’ He groaned in protest. “Ooow. Get off me!”
She laughed and scrambled off him. Towards the small table lined with food.
Edgeworth sat on the couch. No bed head in sight. Brushing Pearls hair as she ate.
Your pack is safe.
“Wright you should hurry if you want breakfast. I doubt Maya has any qualms about cleaning the remaining plates.”
“I do not!”
He rolled out of bed with a groan and shuffled over to the table.
“If you’re trying to bribe your way to forgiveness,” He took a bite of the quiche. Stopped. Savored it. That was good. “… It won’t work.” He finished, far less certain than when he’d began.
“I’ll keep that in mind.” Stood. Grabbed a pastry. Stared at him as he shoved another bite in.
“… What?”
“Don’t talk with your mouth full.” He scolded. His hand came up. Carded through his limp spikes. Arranging them back into position.
He froze. Stuck between irritation and the almost overwhelming urge to lean in.
The hand disappeared. Taking jacket on the chair behind him and pulling it on.
“Have a good day.”
“You’re going to work?!”
He glanced back over his shoulder at them. One eyebrow raised. “Yes?”
“… Have a good day.”
There were phone calls across the ocean. He’d drift off to the sounds of Miles readying for the day.
“When are you coming home?” He mumbled, half asleep into his pillow. Listening to Miles put on his cravat for a new day.
He imagined instead he was listening to Miles take it off. Neck bare. So he could lay down in the bed next to him. Warm, sleepy and he’d snuggle into the softest fleece. Purring.
“… Do you need me to?” Was the soft reply. The rustling halting.
“I miss you.”
“… I miss you too.”
It wasn’t just that Iris looked so familiar. It wasn’t just that she felt familiar.
She smelled familiar too. Like that sweet omega he’d loved.
That had betrayed him.
Her hood. It smelled just like her. He pressed the cloth to his nose and inhaled it.
Really it just made everything that much more confusing.
“Wright.”
Edgeworth?
“You’re alive.”
At the door to his hospital room stood a man in a rumpled jacket with deep bruises under his eyes. Ruffles disheveledly ruffled around his neck.
Edgeworth.
“Yeah I’m,” A cough interrupted him. “Not that easy to get rid of.”
The chair next to his bed was pulled out. Edgeworth did not sit perfectly straight in it. His elbows rested on his knees and he leaned in close.
“Larry said you fell off a bridge and drowned.” A low rumble- a growl? Nah. Edgeworth wouldn’t growl. That’d be improper. He giggled at the notion. “I’m going to strangle that man with his own sleeves.”
“No that parts true.” Edgeworth looked upset. “It was only a little on fire.”
Because there hadn’t been much bridge left.
Edgeworth got even paler. He didn’t think his reassurance worked.
“Why would you-” There was a strangled sound.
The bridge.
Maya!
“Maya! She’s still trapped over there!” How had he forgotten? She was trapped over there and it was so cold out and they didn’t have food and- “I have to go help her!” He started to untangle himself from the stupid tangle of blankets.
“I’ll make sure it’s handled Wright.” A hand was on his shoulder. Slowing him down. “Lay down.”
He believed him. Let that hand start guiding him back down when. “Iris.”
“What?”
He twisted towards his laptop. “Iris. She not. I know she didn’t do it. I have to-“ Something stuck in his throat as he twisted and that urge to cough became unbearable. He curled forward and hacked. Coughing and coughing and coughing and he couldn’t stop to breathe in and when he tried there was something there and no air would come in and he was so scared he wouldn’t be able to and Maya and Iris and poor little Pearl-
The bed creaked but he only felt it depress under him over the sound of his own coughing. Warmth blanketed his back and then the rumbling started. Deep and strong it vibrated through the whole of his chest.
He hacked once more and something dislodged. Inhaled. Fresh air filled his burning lungs. He coughed a few more times and tasted slimy mucus on the back of his tongue.
“Ew.” He complained, hand blindly searching for the tissues.
One appeared in his hand and he spit the snot into it. The rumbling did not stop and he eased back into it.
Edgeworth’s arms were wrapped around his chest. His legs splayed out on either side of the bed. His chest was warm and vrring soothingly like hum of a car engine.
He leaned back into it and tucked his forehead into the junction of Miles jaw and neck. Shivering despite the blankets and hood. Despite his warmth.
“I can’t smell you.” He whined. Nose clogged. “You used to smell so good.” Like. Like blankets still warm from the dryer. He wanted burrow into them and wrap himself up in that scent.
“Used to huh?” The motor slowed to half a hum.
“Noooo. Don’t stop. It helps.” He could breathe. The urge to hack out a lung made distant by Miles soft engine.
“Ngh.” The vibration stuttered and restarted.
He drifted there. Tucked into Miles shoulder. Drifting back towards sleep.
“Iris.” He snapped open his eyes and grabbed for the laptop again. “I need-“
Miles pinned him back to his chest with one firm hand. “To sleep.”
“No- No she’s innocent. I know she didn’t do it. I have to. I have to clear her name.”
“Well you’re not going anywhere in this condition Wright.”
Gods. He just need a second body. One that wasn’t ill. That could go investigate for him.
Oh. He had an idea.
“Miles.” The rumbling stuttered and then roared and he could physically feel the sound vibrating through their chests. He tried to angle his head to look at Edgeworth but he’d bowed it and his face was hidden by a curtain of hair. “I need a favor.”
“What now Wright?”
He reached over to the side table again but grabbed something else instead.
“Take this?”
One of the hands around his chest released, palm up.
He set the golden defense attorney’s badge in it.
“W- and do what with this?”
“The rumbles!” He complained about their sudden stopping.
“No I’m not going to purr myself into being alright with this- I’m a prosecutor not a defense attorney!”
“Yeah. I know. A brilliant one. Please. I need you to defend Iris for me.”
“I can hire someone to defend her for you but I can’t just-“
“NO! It has to be you!” He tried to twist in Edgeworth’s grip to plead with him directly. The grip around his ribs tightened. Making it impossible. “You care about stuff. Please. You’re the only one I’d trust with this.”
Miles head tucked into the crook of his neck. His arms shaking.
“I know you can do this. Please Miles.”
His hand closed around the badge and the rest was history.
“Wooh bro you should lay back down.”
He glared at Larry – Laurice – from where he’d fallen from the bed.
Okay so he wasn’t quite as stable as he thought yet. But he was good enough. He could go investigate.
Larry picked him up by the armpits and dragged him back off the floor onto the mattress. “Just let Edgey handle it. Your mate did great today!” Thumbs up.
“My what?! Larry! We’re not!” His face was definitely bright red and not from the lingering fever.
Larry blinked at him. Tilted his head and crossed his arms. “You sure man? Cause you smell hella claimed.”
“Don’t you think I’d know if we were?” (Besides how would we? He keeps running away.)
“Hmm, I don’t know. You’re not always the brightest bulb in the six pack.”
(What does that even mean? And I don’t want to hear that coming from you!)
“I mean he flew halfway around the world to check on you.”
“What? No he said he was already here for work.”
Pity. Why was Larry looking at him with pity?
“Well whatever cuddle party you two had,” He interjected. “That was just because I couldn’t breathe!” Larry ignored him. “You stink. You’re all sickness and distressed omega. You need a shower.”
“I’m not an omega.”
“Didn’t say you were bro.”
The shower was nice. He felt significantly more human after. The steam even cleared his nose for a bit.
It clogged back up by the time he finished getting dressed but it had been nice to breathe clearly while it lasted.
“How could I have done that..?”
Still beating himself up over letting Iris run away during the earthquake it seemed.
“Edgeworth?”
“Aaah!” He jumped and turned like he was going to make a break for it over the fence.
“Hey! Don’t you dare run away!”
He was so sick of Miles running.
He grit his teeth. Held himself. But turned back to him all the same.
“What do you want Wright?”
“What do I want?”
“If you came here to laugh at me, then get on with it. Go on. Laugh.”
(Edgeworth…)
He sighed.
Pulled his hands out of his jacket.
“Fine.” He stepped forward. The snow crunched under his feet. “Come here.”
Miles was nothing but sharp edges and tension when he wrapped his arms around him.
“W-what are you…?”
“You’re stronger than you think. So stop it with all the self-pity okay?”
Between the frigid cold and the cold he still couldn’t smell anything. But he didn’t have to have a working nose to soothe with his own scent. You’re Safe. Loved. Protected.
He wasn’t sure it was working.
Not until Miles melted like spring snow into his arms. Nose tucked into the space between his jacket and scarf.
“I’m sorry for letting her get away.”
“You don’t need to apologize.” He ran his fingers through the soft strands of his grey hair.
“I’m still sorry.”
“Then you’re forgiven.”
Miles sighed into his jacket. Squeezed him back. “You’re ridiculous Wright.”
“… You went back to the criminal affairs department right? Because you wanted to look into something about Iris?”
His jacket was released and both stepped back. Not that he wanted to. “Yes. I thought I had seen her before, in court. So I went back and looked.”
“What’d you find?”
His cheek ached. The imprint of Pearls hand turning it red.
Edgeworth squeezed his shoulder. “I’ll handle the girls. Take your time.”
He sent a grateful smile back. Squeezed the hand on his shoulder in return.
“Mr. Edgeworth?” Iris called after him, as he was halfway out the door. “I wanted to thank you for your advice.”
Edgeworth’s lips were a tight line. He nodded.
“I think maybe it’s time you took it yourself.”
“Huh?” He looked between them.
“… I’ll take it under consideration.”
The door closed behind him. “What was that about?” He asked her.
“That’s the Edgeworth you always used to talk about right Feenie?”
Feenie.
Swallowed glass.
It dug into his throat.
“Yeah. I guess.”
“I’m glad you found him at long last.”
“Y-yeah I,” He looked up at her and stopped. What was that expression? Wait. “Hold it! We’re not!” He slammed his hands down on the table. “Not together!”
She smiled. Tittered. “Okay, okay. I believe you Feenie.”
“… Could you not…?”
Her eyes widened. Head tilted down. “Of course. I’m sorry.”
“No- its fine.”
They both stared at their hands for a while.
“I know it doesn’t mean much now but… I really did love you. I wanted you to be happy. I still do. So… Even if you hate me…”
Hating you would be easy. It wouldn’t have hurt so much if I hadn’t loved you.
“I’m really glad you found each other. I know that omega really loves you.”
“…” He lifted his head to frown at her. “Maya’s like a sister to me.”
Her eyes widened- gods he could see Pearls in that motion. Morphed into a weak smile. Like they’d just shared a joke that had stopped being funny years ago. One that left her a happy recollection but was mostly sad. “You never had a very good nose did you?”
He almost argued Yeah I still have a head cold from falling in the Eagle River thanks. But he stopped. Searched her.
“… No. I guess not.”
Maya and Edgeworth were speaking in hushed tones in the waiting lobby. Pearly bounced over to him with a can of juice in her hand. He smiled and they neared them together.
“He’s already done far too much for me.” Edgeworth with that worrying self-sacrificial tone.
“Yeah I really don’t think he’d mind.” Maya with a cheeky one.
“Mind what?” He asked.
They both jumped.
“Nothing.” Edgeworth might have said. It was drowned out by Maya’s, “NOTHING!”
And then the sliding of locks over their hearts.
“… I still have the magatama on me.” He warned both of them.
“It isn’t my secret! Pearly and I are taking the bus home! Good night!”
They both watched her go.
Real natural Maya.
“So.”
Edgeworth gripped his elbow and turned away. “It’s not something you need to concern yourself with.”
“Yeah well, too bad. I’m already concerned so save us both some time and just tell me.”
He mumbled something that was definitely not meant to be audible. He leaned in and cupped his ear. “What?”
“I’m in pre-heat! There! Does that satisfy you?” Edgeworth snapped. Face bright red as he glared down at him.
Oh.
Um. “Anything I can do to help?”
“No.” He looked away again but the flush on his cheeks remained. “Franziska has already made it clear she is willing to aid me,” He forced down the irritation that bubbled up. They were siblings. She’d probably helped him through plenty. Somehow that made it worse. “And worst case I can always ask Larry again.”
Again? The growl broke free. He stepped forward. “You asked Larry before me?!”
Edgeworth blinked blankly at him. “Wha- He helped me through the last one I had in LA yes. Why are you?” Miles took a step back into the wall. He matched it.
“Why Larry and not me?! After everything you’d choose Larry over me?!
“That’s not-”
He couldn’t smell the pre-heat yet but this close he could smell Miles every time he dragged a breath in around his teeth.
“You should have asked Me!”
Miles looked a little dazed where he pressed against the cement brick walls. “I-I couldn’t.”
“Why not?” Yes the alpha growl was still rumbling through his vocal cords and throat. It was impolite. But he couldn’t stop it. Larry. Larry got to be there for Miles. Got to share his nest and hold him and- and-
Miles gaze kept flicking away but the growl, his demand for attention, always drew it back. “Because it wouldn’t have been platonic with you.”
The growl died.
You smell hella claimed dude.
“I’m sorry. I swear I don’t mean for this to change anything. I just. I can’t share a heat with you. I can’t pretend like I won’t try and jump you.” He squeezed his eyes tight. “I wouldn’t do that to you. I don’t want to do that to you.”
That omega really loves you.
He touched the hand digging into Miles elbow. Watched the heartbreaking spasm of pain across his face. “What if I want you to?”
“…” Miles eyes blinked open. Studied him. Confused. “What?”
He moved in a breath closer. A mere inch or two between them. He could feel Edgeworth’s body heat. Smell that comforting scent like fresh blankets pulled from the dryer.
And something else. Something that made his mouth water.
“What if I want you to jump me? Want to share a heat non-platonically?”
Cause really, the idea he could share a heat platonically with Edgeworth was absurd. Frankly it hadn’t even crossed his mind.
“W-wha- Then I…” He pressed up against him. One hand pushing him into the wall. The other caging him in. He watched Miles groan, eyes fuzzy as his hardening bulge pressed into his hip. “Think we should continue this conversation elsewhere.”
Oh. He glanced around at the waiting room. “Yeah okay. That’s fair.”
“This seems wildly unnecessary.” He complained laying on the office couch. Phone pressed to his ear.
“I will not have either of us rushing into this simply because my hormones are making us…”
“Too horny?”
“Please Wright.”
He rolled his eyes. “Okay so what. We’re supposed to like. Share medical history? I had a test after my last partner. I’m clean. I can probably figure out how to email that to you.”
“I’ll take your word for it. I can’t actually review it right now. I’d send you mine but…”
“Wooh do you actually have something?”
“No! I’m clean. I just. Can’t use my laptop right now. And I’d really rather not have Franziska digging through my medical history.”
“Why not?”
“Why don’t I want Franziska digging through my medical history?”
“Why can’t you use your laptop?”
The line crackled. “Ah. I have quite bad light sensitivity during pre-heat. And occasionally during.”
“Does that mean you’re buried under a pile of blankets right now?”
The silence was telling.
Aww.
“Shut up Wright.” He could almost see the blush tinging his cheeks. “I also want to make it clear you may leave at any time. Just let Franziska or Larry know if I become too much for you.”
“Yeah I don’t think that’ll be a problem.”
“Wright.”
“Okay, okay. Promise.”
“Additionally, it’s a stress heat and I’m on birth control so you needn’t worry about that.”
“Yeah I figured. Neither of us exactly seem ready for pups.”
There was a drawn out exhale. “Uh… What else?”
“You okay over there?”
“I’m fine. It’s just. Getting hard to focus.”
His fingers clenched around the phone. I should be there. With you. Not Franziska.
“Don’t growl at me.”
“Sorry. Is that a rule during or just-”
“Just. Right now.”
“Right. Um. No on mating bites?”
“I’m not… opposed. But I agree it wouldn’t be wise.”
Not opposed? He could sink his teeth into the back of Edgeworth’s neck and claim him and keep him. He could almost feel Edgeworth’s teeth sinking into him. Mine. Mine. Mine.
He exhaled and ground the heel of his palm against his trousers. “Fuck.”
There was a quiet whine on the other side. “Behave Wright.” Came the weak protest.
“Sorry. Uh. Boundaries?”
“No derogatory language. At least at the start.” Yeah okay. “And… don’t call me perfect or any iteration there in.”
“Huh? But-”
“That one’s a hard rule. Please.”
“…” Perfect. Perfection.
Von Karma.
“Yeah. Got it.”
“Hm… I can’t think of anything else. Sorry. I haven’t spent a great deal of time thinking about this.”
“Well that makes one of us.”
“… Did you even know I was an omega?”
“Well. No. That wasn’t. What I meant.”
“I see. Yes well.” He coughed. “Fantasy is one thing. The actual mechanics are another. What are yours?”
“My fantasies?”
“Boundaries.” Miles deadpan replied.
“Oh um. Don’t threaten to kill me?”
“That may be difficult depending on how irritating you are in bed.”
“Ha. Ha. Uh… Don’t convince me I’m dating you when it’s actually your secret twin?”
“… Wright are you sure you’re up for this?”
“Yeah no I’m totally fine.” He laughed nervously. “I mean that happened years ago.”
“And you just got closure yesterday.”
“I’m fine. It’s just fresh on my mind. I really do want this.”
“This won’t be my last heat Wright. There’s always next time.”
“Edgeworth. I’m sure.”
“… Alright.” There was the distant sound of Franziska yelling. The phone was muffled as Edgeworth yelled back a reply. “… Anything else?”
Swallowed glass.
“Don’t… Call me Feenie?”
“Why would I call you that?”
“I don’t know.”
“Well. I won’t.” There was a pause. “Anything else?”
“I got nothing.”
“Well. If you’re still certain-”
“I am.”
“Don’t interrupt.” He rolled his eyes. Sorry. “You may ask Franziska for the address.”
“You’re not just going to tell me?”
“I’d prefer to give you a few minutes to attempt to think this over. She won’t respond until she’s done at very least.”
“As much as that annoys me I guess that means we won’t run into each other. Little victories.”
“Quite. Alright. Then… See you soon Wright.”
“Phoenix?”
“… See you soon. Phoenix.”
Yeah. This was going to be all right.
Miles apartment was nice. Really nice. Like someone might call the police on him for being here levels of nice.
It was kinda nerve wracking.
Then there’s the multi paragraph directions Franziska sent him. Where the fridge was. Where the food was. What he should order as takeout during if they need more and exactly what exactly he should order.
Where the laundry was. How to run it. How often he needed to change them out or else she’ll whip him for mistreating her brother.
Strongly worded reminders about how he is to make sure Miles is eating and drinking because he hates to eat during heat and-
It’s a lot.
But he pushes open the bedroom door- even he can smell the cloying scent of Miles drawing him in – and the room is empty. A neat bed perfectly made. An open bathroom door. Curtains drawn over the windows.
A pile of water bottles, blankets and towels right next to the closet door along with a laptop, plugged in.
“Edgeworth?” He tries. “Miles?”
“If your nose is still running you should grab some tissues before entering.” Came the response from behind the closed closet door.
He picked a box up off the nightstand and knelt down next to it. “Uh… Omega can I come in?”
“This isn’t porn Wright.” The door cracked open. Edgeworth’s back to him. His head covered by one of Franziska’s blouses. “I hope you don’t expect anything exciting. My head hurts and I just want to sleep.”
He slowly climbed in. It was a beautiful nest. With soft canopy ceilings that must have been attached to the clothing rack and a plush mattress floor covered in soft blankets and towels. The walls intricately weaved together.
“Fuck. Miles its perfect.” Shit. “Sorry.” Messing up right at the gate.
“Yes, It is. Franziska made it.”
“Wha- wait what really? But she’s an alpha.” Although. It did definitely smell like her. He sat down on the floor and stared up. Admiring the handwork. The smell was only… a minor irritant.
Okay it was super annoying. But soon enough it would smell like the two of them and it wouldn’t matter.
“Close the door Wright.”
“Oh. Sorry.”
“I don’t know how to make nests. Franziska’s always made them for me. Or Larry, that one time.”
“Really? Isn’t it supposed to be instinctive?” A small noise escaped him. “I mean there’s all those tutorials online, right? Maya even made me help her a few times.”
“I could learn. I choose not to. It’d would never be as nice.”
“Why not?”
“… Because I’d have made it.” A growl built in the back of his throat. “Will you lay down?”
He did. “You’d make a great nest Edgeworth. You’re great at pretty much everything you try.”
“Paper cranes.” Well shit. He remembered all those crumpled pieces of paper. Edgeworth’s tear stained face as another one crumpled into recognizable garbage. “Even if I became a master I would only see the imperfections. It’s better for me if someone else makes them.”
Miles rolled over and tucked himself into his chest. Into the sweatshirt he’d pulled on for the trip over. In the darkness he reached out and found the soft grey hair of his head. Stroked it. “Yeah. I guess that makes sense.”
A purr started. He yawned. Alright. He was more tired than he thought.
He nestled into the nest and let Miles purr carry him off.
day two of j&kcreatorfest (with @expectingtofly)— prompts: thunderstorms and hurt/comfort just wanting to spend some time at their local park, dean forgets to check the weather and there's a lot of rain — trust me. (1.5k)
"Can you pass me over another beer Cas?"
The sun begins to set over a Lebanon, Kansas public park during a warm summer Friday night. Families gathered around the biggest baseball diamond watching a cut-throat game between the local Little League team facing off with their out-of-town opponents. This isn't necessarily the "ideal" group of people the Winchester/Leahy family would normally associate themselves with — but puts aside their differences to become more integrated into the community they live in.
It is also used a constant schedule for all of them — no matter what happens during the week, Sam, Eileen, Dean, Cas, and Jack can meet up with each other for some well-needed family bonding time. This week is especially special, Claire and Kaia had come to spend the past couple of days at the bunker while they passed through town before going to their next hunt location. They both were more than willing to join their family at the park, even going out of their way to pack them all individual sandwiches and various other picnic foods.
Cas reaches into a cooler by the side of his chair, wiping off the now melted ice residue before handing it over, "It's root beer Dean, quit pretending that it's actual alcohol."
Dean looks down at the label and pretends to read it, but ends up laughing and leaning over to clink it against Sam's identical bottle, "You're right Cas, cheers to our night together."
Claire, Kaia, and Jack swing next to one enough on the playground adjacent to the diamond, their laughs so infectious that Cas has a hard time trying not to chuckle along while looking over to check on them. He then lets his gaze linger on Sam and Eileen sitting on a blanket on top of the grass signing to each other (from what Cas could understand, it seemed as though they were discussing updates on the game).
Ending off with Dean next to him in a matching lawn chair slumped back with his eyes droopy with sleep, Cas reaches down to grab his available hand and kisses the back of it softly. This awakens Dean right away, who instinctively moves in to place a peck against the other man's lips — quickly interrupted by the sound of fake gagging. Dean pulls away first, both looking over to see Sam and Eileen laughing in response to their faces. Dean flicks them off but Cas swats at his hand, shaking his head in embarrassment.
Soon after, Cas notices something suspicious when people in the audience begin to pick up their items and head towards their parked cars. He looks down at his watch (one given to him by Dean for their anniversary — with an inscription of "Together — We are One"), eyebrows furrowing when realizing the game has at least an hour left. Shrugging this off, Cas tells himself it must be because the team they want to win is currently losing.
"I think we need to head out soon."
Cas jumps when he hears Claire's voice ring out from behind him, "What do you mean? What's going on?"
"Look—" Claire points to the sky off in the distance, dark storm clouds rolling in with strands of rain falling from them.
"Dean, didn't you double-check the weather before we left?"
With a mouth full of root beer, Dean shakes his head and swallows, "No, I thought that was your job."
"Seems like there's a pretty bad storm headed this way," Sam speaks up while looking down at the phone in his hand, "We'd better get out of here before we're fully drenched."
Sam signs to Eileen, the both of them standing up from the blanket and folding it into a compact shape, leaning down to pick up the rest of their belongings.
"Alright—Claire, Kaia, Jack—go help pack up the car with Sam and Eileen. Dean, make sure you have everything you need and grab whatever is left. I'm going to go give the other parents a heads up in case they weren't aware."
"Cas, leave them be. Just come with us. If they haven't noticed the clouds by now, then they're out of luck."
"The kids. They're in danger if a storm like this is coming," Cas scowls at his love, "I'm not going to leave unless I go say something."
Dean grabs both of their chairs in each hand and shakes his head, "Fine, but make it fast. I may have to high-tale it out of here without you."
On cue, thunder rumbles through the park confirming the storm's true closeness, immediately halting the remaining innings of the game and causing the kids to go running for their parents.
Before Dean and Cas get the chance to argue any more about it, Sam yells out from beside their car, "Come on you two! Hurry it up!"
Dean runs off first, trying to hold up the chairs from having them brush up against the ground, making a beeline towards the trunk of the Impala parked under a large shady tree. Cas follows with a backpack slung on his back and heads directly for the passenger’s side door. Within moments of hearing the trunk door slam shut, rain droplets begin plopping onto the windshield as Dean rips open the door to the driver's side covered in tiny water patches.
The rain begins to pick up speed after another rumble of thunder and crack of lightning, causing a whimper to emanate from the back seat — its origin coming from Jack. Eileen wraps her arm around his shoulders and pulls him in close while Sam rubs at his arm to keep his mind off the sounds.
Turning the key in the ignition and flicking on his windshield wipers, Dean using one hand to reverse out of the spot before shifting quickly driving out of the parking lot. He looks up to see if Claire is following behind him and smiles to himself, as any proud father would do, before putting on his left turn signal to indicate which way she should follow.
A streak of lightning lights up the car once again and Sam leans forward from the backset whispering, "Jack is crying pretty hard back here, do you have any tissues up there with you?
Cas opens up his bag on the floor in front of him, pulling out a tiny package of tissues and a packet of gummy bears, "Give these to him too, it should help him calm down."
The farther Dean follows the main road towards the bunker, the worse the weather escalates — they pass by cars stopped at green lights, many even pulled off to the side of the road, while others still trying to trek onto their intended location. The outside world is blurred through the windows by the pouring rain, the windshield wipers unable to keep up with the pushing the water off.
"Can't you just, use your angel powers or something to stop the storm?"
"Dean, I'm not the Norse God Thor. I don't have that ability"
"Well, you're certainly no Chris Hemsworth."
Cas squints his eyes, "Excuse me?"
Dean shakes his head, "Forget about it."
"Kaia just texted me that Claire pulled into a parking lot not too far back from here, maybe we should find a place and wait this out."
Dean grips tightly onto the steering wheel, "I can get us back to the bunker Cas, nothing that a little storm can keep me from doing."
"These flooded roads keep getting worse. It would be smart to just pull over."
Suddenly, Dean hits a patch of the road with standing water causing him to momentarily lose control of the car, pumping his breaks and squealing the tires against the wet pavement.
"Pull over!" Cas yells out, flustered.
With the car finally stopped, parked on the shoulder of the road in one piece, everyone seems to let out a collective sigh of relief. Sam, Eileen, and Jack huddle into a hug, while Cas and Dean share a quick kiss in comfort for being stopped safely.
Giving each person a moment to breathe and calm down, Dean finally speaks up asking, "Anyone up for some 20 Questions?"
****
Roughly about 30 minutes later after the storm has run its course, Dean pulls back onto the road and starts heading back with minimal rain to worry about. He holds onto Cas’ hand and places it on his lap, sighing contently. After multiple games of 20 Questions, Jack had fallen asleep with his head resting on Eileen’s shoulder, now talking to Sam about a hunt she had been researching.
When Dean pulls up to the bunker, he’s shocked to see Claire and Kaia waiting there in front of the building, waving at them. Rolling down the window, he leans his head out, “How did you two manage to beat us?”
“We left just shortly before you, slowpoke. Haven’t you driven in rain like that before?”
Dean shakes his fist at Claire and laughs, “Go inside and start getting dinner ready, we’ll be in shortly.”
“Fine, dad,” she emphasizes sarcastically.
“Our children—” Dean remarks to Cas while pulling into Baby’s designated parking spot, “what would we do without them?”
Cas looks back at Jack recently awoken with messy hair and a droopy smile, “We got lucky, just like the chance of getting hit by lightning twice. Once in a lifetime chance that struck us twice.”
